Fandom’s Favorite Pairing Type
I know I can’t be the only one that’s noticed that across every fandom and even in real life, everyone seems to have a serious ‘thing’ for pairings/ships involving a smart/genius, harsh and stern, short-tempered, sarcastic but possessively protective-over-loved-ones-while-also-being-needy character, and a generally less smart/occasionally dumb and naive, stubborn yet sweet, patient, goofy but also anxiously protective over loved ones while needing to be needed character. Right? Right?! I mean really, you don’t even need to be a part of a single pairing/ship’s fandom to have seen something like this somewhere (or everywhere)! Shout at the top of your lungs and name it if this applies to your fandom and fave romance!

bake it
reiner can’t get enough of you or your sweet treats. Regardless of what anyone thinks.
themes: food play, reiner and reader both being nasty af, (and both have super country accents), lots of old southern colloquialisms, food play, oral (m. receiving), spit play, pet names (sugar, poundcake, daddy, pumpkin, sweet girl), spanking, backshots, squirting
📝: this may or may not be a lil series based off my fav album at the moment. I think it fits the cowboy!reiner x reader headcanon very well.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Chile, did you hear about what (y/n) did down at the Hole this weekend?”
“Girl yes. Being fast and actin’ all loose. Hanging over every man that’ll look her way.” “I’m tellin’ ya, honey. She ain’t nothing like her mama or her cousins. Girl’s a handful, I tell ya. Never seen a thang’ like it.”
“She was with that Braun boy from what I heard. Lord knows what she was doing..”
rumblings and rumors had spread like wildfire among about what took place at the infamous hang out spot and saloon in the small town in which you’d grown up. It seemed that not much had changed from the time you were a tiny child from now being a grown woman, returning to your stomping grounds after a couple years of higher education. Pearl clutching church ladies and snobby debutants with their noses in the air, disapproving of any woman who hadn’t settled down and popped out ten kids before the age of twenty five. It was how the customary traditions went in the south and sadly, wasn’t going to change any time soon. However…
“Yes and did you hear that I had him calling to the good lord after I fucked him seven ways to Sunday? He was a lot of fun. Boy’s got a third leg and a tongue like a serpent. Might have to keep him around.”
the very bold proclamation of your supposed actions had your coworkers of the Sweetie Pie Bakery; owned by the ladies in your family and had been a staple in the city for ten years, gasping and glaring at you disgust. The ones working there currently were a few new hires from the local church. The types to be sleeping with other people’s husbands by Saturday and running in and out of the pew on Sunday. Blatant hypocrites. Hence why you so casually admitted to your affairs and boasted about them. You didn’t give a damn what those uppity bitches thought of you! Especially when the man in question was all but obsessed with you…sneaking away at any opportune moment to have you since the first night you gave him a taste of your proverbial sweetness. Slurping you up, tonguing you down and pounding that little pussy sideways..letting him have a slice of you anyway he liked. It was no secret to anyone that you weren’t some innocent saint but if it’s gossip they wanted, you’d give those mouth breathing heifers something to bump their gums about. They’d feel how they want to about you regardless so it didn’t matter. Might as well have a little fun..
“Now if you ladies will excuse me, I have a delivery to make.”
“In that outfit?!” Referring to the very short, denim miniskirt wrapping your thick backside and halter top hoisting your ample breasts.“It’s ninety two degrees outside besides, a wretched jezebel like me has to look the part, right?” Mocking them with an overly done accent and a fake smile before waving and turning on the heels of your boots.
and where you were headed, you wouldn’t have it on long anyways..not once he spotted you…
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
halfway across the tracks was a small office residing on the outskirts of town, right before you’d reach the dozen mile long stretch of fields and farmland. The moniker atop the building read ‘Braun Farms, Inc.’ owned and operated by the prominent family for several years and generations. Providing fresh vegetables, poultry, cattle and everything else to many local diners and families. The hardest working man in the entire company may have been the next line to take it over, Reiner Braun. A young, handsome, determined guy who was always about his business before any sort of pleasures. Of course, that all changed when his new fling came around..a girl by the name of (y/n) (l/n) who had a grip on him in more ways than one. After some whisperings, he discovered that you too had grown up in this area but was carted off to school elsewhere in your adolescence. You at sone private Christian academy and him homeschooled, hence why your paths never crossed. But that was a thing of the past and so was hiding the promiscuity you both harbored.
“Damn, poundcake. You keep suckin’ on me like that and I might hafta’ give you my credit card and last name.”
the words escaping in a guttural groan from Reiner’s half parted lips. His chest was heaving, so much so, it looked as if it were about to pop from his chest. Going mad with pure unadulterated lust as you licked on his shaft from underneath the desk. He had been assigned to records keeping today so you decided to pay him a little visit on his lunch break. And what was a better meal than your delicious cupcake and the chance to eat his dick up?
“Don’t say that too loud, pumpkin. Someone might get the wrong idea about me..think I’m trying to take ya’ money.”
“To hell with them. Only thing I want right now is to fuck that pretty lil’ throat.”
and he did just that. Bobbing your head up and down with a spread palm resting atop your freshly done lace front; feeding you every inch feasible of that long, erect cock. Gliding it to the back of your mouth until it damn near reached your esophagus and drummed up strings of spit. Loud gurgling noises filled the room and Reiner nearly lost his shit. Clawing at the arms of the chair and cursing like a sailor. You had this man doing and behaving in ways unbecoming of his character but he could give a damn less. As long as you kept letting him use you like this. Sticking your tongue out, you’d smile and request that he spit into your mouth..adding to the pre existing strings saliva and cum covering your face. It didn’t help matters any when you decided to take some of that frosting and place it on his sensitive tip before slurping it off. “W-whatever you want, sugar. I’ll give you whatever you want just keep —oh shit!” Earning yourself another warm load of his nut all over your exposed tits and pretty face. “You taste so good..” Those deviant eyes and sultry voice luring him in. By now, you had to be dripping so he’d tug you out from under there and place you at the edge of the desk before saddling up behind you with that hard dick. Hoisting that mini skirt to your waist, letting it bunch up around that soft, pudgy tummy, he was pleased to find that you wearing no panties but was wetter than the lake he frequented.
“Want you to fuck this pussy so good…stretch it out f’r me, Rei…” begging with your decorated nails placed on your round cheeks as you pulled them apart to reveal that puckering hole and soaking entrance…making him hungry for both. Wasting no time, he’d grab a handful of that thin top and your waist to reign you in. With his teeth grimaced, he’d whisper in your ear with growls; feeding you heavy handed smacks to your ass in the process. Spanking you like a bad kid but doing so because you enjoyed every second. “That’s what you want, sugar? For me to fuck ya’ like a lil’ slut? Make you come all over this dick? That right, baby?” To which you’d nod profusely, never craving something so badly before in your life. Of course, he was happy to oblige..but you’d have to beg a bit, just because that sexy voice turned him on so bad. “Yes, daddy. Need you to fill my shit up too..nut all in this pussy. I ain’t come all this way for nothin.” And of course, that all but sold him. So with your inviting heat waiting for him and those Wranglers ruffled around his waist, Reiner pulled you in close before impaling you on his cock.
“Damn right, baby..so take all this dick.” Pressing a thumb to your tight little asshole as he pumped you full..one long, deep stroke after the next, coaxing out sticky cream and soft cries as you scratched at the wooden surface he had you planked across. Sliding in and out of that warmth like a perfectly fitting puzzle piece. The tight clutch you put around his shaft had him mesmerized. It didn’t help your case any when you constantly doted and bragged on how good he fucked you. “I swear you’re the only one who can get this pussy wet like this..” “..right there, daddy. You in my fucking spot..gonna make me come.” Of course, Reiner was loving every bit and only wanted to please his lady so as that big ass bounced against his pelvis and rippled like waves, he’d give you more slaps and try to maintain his pace. Even going as far as to make that tip kiss the inner corner of your cervix.“Give it to me then…nut f’r me, sweet girl. Let it all go.” And the second you did, juices flooded the floor as you squirted all over him. “Shitttt! That’s what I’m talking about, pretty girl. Make a mess of me..” grinning from ear to ear before housing his own seed inside of you. That pulsating cock still inside of you minutes later. Turning you around, he’d mark your lips with a sloppy kiss and look down at the aftermath.
“I swear, I ain’t never gonna be able to quit you, sugar. Just too damn sweet..”

Hihi I'm new here! I really like your headcanons. Would it be alright if I could ask headcanons for the bachelors and how their romantic relationship with a farmer that already has a kid from a different relationship progress?
Like, one day a kid just randomly shows up at the farmer's doorstep with a social worker and farmer had to explain that their ex couldn't keep the child anymore, and the kid is also super anxious about moving in with them or something.
I'm really sorry- it was a scenario I've seen dabbled into once and I'm just very curious as to what others think of it too aha.
If this ask is not your cup of tea, feel free to disregard it. Have a great day op 🙏✨
Hellooooo!
Sorry for the delay, dear anon. This headcanon just turned out bigger than I planned 😅 Hope I understood your question correctly. Thank you very much for the ask, and enjoy! 🫰💕
_________________________________________
SDV bachelors x Farmer, that already has a kid from a different relationship:
Shane:
Oh, man. This is all very awkward...
Shane knew about Farmer's ex, the reason for the breakup and the fact that the child was in the care of their ex in Zuzu City.
Farmer visited their child almost every week, calling and writing letters, but Shane himself was not particularly involved, not knowing how to approach the little one.
Naturally, when the kid came to visit the farm, the chicken man would try to make the kid feel comfortable, but considering everything they'd been through, even here it was pretty awkward.
On the plus side, they was the same age as Jas, and the kids had become fast friends in a short time.
Farmer encouraged their spouse's attempts at friendship with their kid, but again, things were still pretty awkward.
When the Farmer's child arrived with a social worker some time later, Shane noticed how much the little one resembled him in his yought - confused, scared, resentful of everyone and tired of everything. Their familiar world where both parents were together was gone forever.
Later, Shane was able to explain how he'd been in a similar situation, how he'd almost lost because of the mistakes he'd made trying to cope with pain.
The kid quickly found common ground with him. Especially after they confessed that they liked chickens!
Shane doesn't claim to be a father, as the kid is pretty mature and understands on their own.
But he will treat them with the same care and responsibility as he does Jas.
They are all kinda weird family, but Shane loves them all and still can't believe how lucky he is.
Sam:
It's quite a tricky situation, but thanks to his friendliness and personality, Sam is great with kids.
When Farmer finally introduced their kid to Sam, the young guitarist immediately went into cool brother/uncle mode.
The kid was worried, but Sam began to slowly gain their trust by asking about their interest in comics or other hobbies.
It makes him happy that the kid can forget about problem and concerns at least for now, because children should be happy and play while they have their childhood.
Sam knows that Farmer broke up with their ex more or less calmly, without scandal or drama, but he knows, like Farmer, it was still hard for the kid.
He's glad that he and Farmer are trying their best to be in theirs life.
The kid's upset look and the presence of the social worker took Sam by surprise.
While the social worker was talking to Farmer, Sam offered the anxious kid something to eat. Or some space, if they still feel uncomfortable.
After learning the reason for the visit and the fact that the kid will now live on the farm, Sam gently asks his partner how he should handle this. He wants to cheer the kid up, but he also doesn't want to make them more anxious.
Fortunately, Vincent and the kid get along quickly, which pleases both Farmer and Sam. Now, though, they need to keep an eye on the kids, or they'll both get into more trouble.
Jodi and Kent also do everything they can to make Farmer's kid feel comfortable (Jodi now spoils them with tasty baked goods).
Farmer can't help but be joyful with how hard Sam tries for them and their kid and his family to keep everyone happy.
Alex:
Farmer was telling Alex about their loser ex, who had decided to trade Farmer and their child for a some stranger. What a shameless cheater...
Farmer visited their kid almost every week, but Alex was only able to go with them a few times.
At the sight of their ex, the athlete was so itching to break their nose. But he tried to keep his temper in front of the kid.
The child turns out to be a kind young one, though a bit shy and reserved. Alex thanks Yoba that they are more like the Farmer in looks and personality than the other parent.
Despite the awkward pause at first, the kid seems to like Alex. Of course, he's cool, kind, and gives them ice cream! Alex's trips with Farmer became more frequent and his friendship with Farmer's little kid grew stronger.
Some time later, when a confused Alex let the stranger into the house, he was shocked to find Farmer's kid standing behind him. They looked... so sad.
The social worker announced that the ex had decided to relinquish parental rights and the child had been brought here.
The poor kid was quieter than a mouse, but Alex was as friendly as possible and tried to cheer him up.
In the back of his mind, though, he felt a wild rage, because he could hear that the reason the ex had refused to give up their own child was because their new partner didn't want to babysit them.
Alex knows more than anyone what it's like when one parent is such a dirtbag. But right now he doesn't care about losers, he's got Farmer and their kid.
Getting the kid used to the new environment was very difficult, but Alex helped them get to know the local children.
Evelyn accepted the kid as her own great-grandchild, remembering to feed them delicious baked goods. George was a bit stingy with his emotions, but he also accepted them as his own.
Alex will not leave them in trouble and will help them to cope with all the difficulties. Now the Farmer and their child are his family.
Sebastian:
Sebastian feels awkward and doesn't know what to do. Help.
He and the Farmer's child were so similar in personality when they met - silent, shy and withdrawn.
Sebastian realises that Farmer's child is having a hard time with the fact that their parents are divorced. But emo doesn't know how to start a conversation.
So when Farmer left Sebby and their kid alone for half an hour, there was an awkward silence for the first 5 minutes.
The kid was already getting bored. Sebastian decided to give it a try after all.
"Do you like frogs?" Judging by the spark in the kid's eyes, they had already found at least one topic of interest to both of them.
Farmer smiles when they returned to see the two of them chatting about different amphibians.
A few such encounters and Sebastian had become a cool uncle to them.
Sebastian was hurt to hear that Farmer's ex had given up their parental rights, when Farmer's kid had already visited them, with a social worker.
He will leave the kid alone, as they definitely need some time alone and to collect their thoughts.
Yet, Sebby and the Farmer are always there to cheer up the kid.
On a rainy day, he will show the baby the best place to find frogs.
Sebastian is good at supporting both his partner and their baby.
It can be awkward at times, but Sebby loves them all, so it will be okay.
Harvey:
Given Harvey's profession, he's pretty adept at finding common ground with anxious children.
So when Farmer first introduced Harvey to their child from their first marriage, the local Pelican Town doctor already knew how to behave.
He's glad that despite the divorce, Farmer is trying their best to support their kid, as stress can take a big toll on not only their mental health, but their physical health as well.
Even more so, it's not the child's fault that fate has worked out this way and their parents live in completely different places.
Of course, Harvey is not as "cool" as other bachelors, but he manages to interest the child in his model aeroplanes.
Maybe if they like to read, the doctor will give them something interesting to read (something that isn't a medical encyclopedia).
Harvey almost cried when the kid called him uncle and cool adult.
And all was going smoothly until a social worker knocked on the door of the farmhouse.
After explaining that the other parent, Farmer's ex, could no longer financially support the child, they placed the child in their care.
Harvey is worried about them, because all the fear of moving, new surroundings, and separated parents can have a very negative effect on poor kid.
Harvey will try to be there to help them and Farmer.
Maybe insist on therapy for the kid. Still, it could use some professional help.
Fortunately, Harvey knows what to do and he won't let anyone or anything upset Farmer and their kid. Doctor's words!
Elliott:
Elliott still can't believe that Farmer's ex turned out to be such a coward and unworthy person! Cheating on Farmer. when they already had a child together!
Of course, now Farmer is with him, and yes, it's not worth spending all the nerves on the past, but it's just that the writer is outraged to the core.
Also outraged that the ex just abandoned their child like that, saying they "don't have time for them now." Unbelievable!
Poor child... As much as the Farmers tried to comfort their own kud, all of these events took a heavy toll on them. And Elliott decided it was his duty to help the kid and Farmer, the love of his life.
His first attempts, though, end awkwardly, as Elliott doesn't know where to start. And should he start so immediately? Maybe they need some alone time on the contrary?
He decided to pick up a couple of books to help (mostly children's books, and a couple of books about how to communicate with children/teens).
The writer was lucky that the kid loves books!
There was even a moment when the kid felt comfortable around Elliott and asked them to help make their own little book. Elliott is more than happy to help them.
He also won't forget to praise the Farmer, because it was through their efforts and love that their child didn't fall victim to the neglect of the other parent. It's a shame that, coincidentally, the kid didn't arrive sooner.
Elliott will have a bit of a hard time, but he will do a great job in the role of carer for the Farmer and their kid, accepting them as his own child.

In the warm sunlight with the birds chirping in the peaceful morning. Inside the bedroom, there are two people on the bed. They were still sleeping since they were exhausted from last night's activity.
Lloyd woke up first while you were still lying beside him. It’s rare. If this happened a year ago, you wouldn’t still be here. You would leave in a second after you use his body. It never crossed your mind about relationships since you prefer to be alone.
That’s why he still didn’t believe you could be a parent.
You're the most daredevil person he has ever known. You're not afraid of death.
If there's a reaper in front of you, you probably asked the angel of death, "What took you so long?"
That's why you're the deadliest hitman at the agency. The code name Antarctica fits you. When you were on a mission, your expression never changed. You are cold and deadly. You're not afraid of anything since you have nothing to lose. When you left, everyone felt the differences. Even the head of the agency was regretful for letting you go.
This is the reason why he approached you. The agency wants you to come back.
Lloyd thought it would be easy, but when he saw you, Mark, and Kendall together, he realized it would be difficult.
He sighed heavily, his hand gently stroking your back, and then he kissed your forehead. "Do you like your nephew that much?"
After he said those words, you suddenly open your eyelid and look at him. Lloyd swore he almost got a heart attack.
“Yes, I do.”
You would go crazy if something ever happened to them.
Because you realize your nephew is the reflection of your brother. Every little thing that Mark and Kendall do it's the same as your brother. The way they sleep, eat and get angry.
You didn't realize you missed your brother that much until the last time you saw him lifeless inside the casket. The little brother who always followed you around never complained when you could only give him a boiled pumpkin for lunch and dinner.
Back then, both of you were poor, and you worked on child labor at the farm. The farm owner always gave you any vegetable before it turned rotten. The only veggies that could fulfill your hunger were pumpkin. And the habits stayed. One time on the mission, you and Lloyd were hiding in the safe house. The location was the city's outskirts, and it was near the farm. Living near the farm brings you back. You didn’t realize you ate a lot of pumpkins until Lloyd pointed that out.
You and your brother didn't have a good childhood. Since you can't return the time, you want to give Mark and Kendall the best childhood.
"I've been living my life like a walking corpse. It doesn't matter to me if today or tomorrow will be my last day."
Being a hitman, you need to kill your feelings and emotions.
But you regained both when you saw Mark and Kendall at your brother's funeral. The way Mark protects his baby brother is the same as when you were kids. Suddenly, you remembered when you and your brother could only be silent when the parents were fighting and arguing.
You don't want that memory to happen again.
That's why you volunteered to be the guardian for Mark and Kendall. You want to provide them with the best childhood.
"I do love them. They're the reason why I want to wake up and live every day."
When Lloyd heard that, it confirmed his guess. You’re not coming back. He wants to say he doesn’t like it, but you’ve made your choice.
He lifted the blanket and then stood up from the bed. "Let's go. Bruno had left me hundreds of messages."
You were taken aback seeing him being disappointed. It seems like you made a mistake. But you don't know why.
Tumblr media
Both of you walk together to your apartment. When you arrived at the building, Lloyd whispered to your ears, "The stalker has been following us. I'll get him."
You didn't feel threatened. "Don't do anything. Meet me at the park once you get him."
Lloyd nodded and left.
The moment you arrived at your apartment, Bruno opened the door. Heartbreak crossed his arms. "You're late."
You shrugged your shoulders. "We got a surprise attack last night."
"Bullshit. You spend the night with him."
You scoffed and headed into the room. You saw your nephew drawing on the kid's table.
"I hope they're not trouble you."
"They're good kids."
Mark and Kendall were used to babysitting. Their father works as a detective and always goes home late at night.
"Where's Lloyd? I thought you came here together."
You got closer to Bruno and whispered, "He noticed I have a stalker, so he went to catch him."
"Oh. We noticed that."
You raised your eyebrows. "We?"
Bruno clicked his tongue. The secret finally got out. He went to the coffee machine to make coffee. "Well the reason why we came here is to bring you back to the agency."
He poured the coffee into the glass. "I'm not supposed to say this, but he missed you."
"Lloyd?"
"Well, both of you are the best duo and could finish a difficult mission in a short time without being stabbed or getting shots. Since you left, he chose to work alone."
'Ring.'
A phone call from Lloyd: "I've found him. It's just a kid."
"A kid?" You thought you heard wrong. You immediately ran to the park.
When you arrived, you saw Lloyd sitting on the bench while the other person kneeled.
Lloyd noticed you. "I think you should talk to him."
You looked at the kid who was wearing an oversized hoodie. No wonder why you don't feel threatened. He's just a teenager.
You got closer and leaned down "Why did you follow me?"
The teenager lifted his face to look at you. "I want to apologize to you and the kids."
"Me? Why?"
"It's because of me the detective got exposed with the drugs and he lost his life. I'm so sorry." He bowed his head to the ground.
You have learned about your brother's death. He was investigating the drug case, and he met the drug addict. When he went to one location, he was exposed to fentanyl and inhaled it. He got overdosed, and the help arrived late.
The teenage sobbing, "I got sent to rehabilitation, and when I got out, I wanted to apologize, but I'm too scared to face you. It's because of me the kids lost their father.
When you hear his explanation, you want to punch him. But you can't do it. Your brother would be disappointed. The reason why he joined law enforcement is to help people.
You squared down at the same level as him. "Stop feeling guilty. At least you apologize and admit your mistakes. You have stopped doing drugs, too. My brother would be proud of your effort."
After you said those words, you could see the teenage face brighten up a bit. Seems like your words ease his burden. He is still young and has much time to fix his life.
Tumblr media
You share an encouragement to the teenager before you and Lloyd go back to the apartment.
While walking together, he grabbed your hand. "That was disappointing. I was expecting you to gage his eyes out and pull his finger nails."
You giggled. "If I were still a hitman, I would do it. But now, I must be a good role model for my nephew."
Lloyd hummed and kept walking.
You notice him sulking; he could be childish sometimes. "I'm sorry, Lloyd. I'm going to stay."
Lloy stopped his foot."I understand."
You were silent until you said, "But I will be here for you, and they like you."
Lloyd stopped again. But this time, he looks at you with a smile. "Don't use them to get me."
"Mister Hansen!"
Lloyd heard the familiar voice. He looked up front and saw Mark running towards you while Bruno carried Kendall.
With his little leg, Mark runs faster than he holds Lloyd's legs.
Lloyd looked at you and sighed. "I'll come and visit when I have the time."
Tumblr media
5 years later.
"Left, right, left, right."
"More passion, more energy."
Three males are running together. They're jogging at the same pace.
Lloyd in the middle, Mark on his right, and Kendall on his left. This jogging is for Kendall. He's joining the marathon for this year.
His cancer treatment went well, and his body accepted all the medicine. He became cancer-free when he was five years old.
"Always keep your pace, and be confident at the race Kendall."
Kendall looked up and nodded. "Okay, Dad."
Lloyd hummed happily when he heard that. It never occurred to him would be called by that name.
It happened after he put the ring on your finger. After three years, he decided to retire from being a hitman and join you.
The four of you became a complete family. It's quick for Kendall to call Lloyd as dad, but Mark doesn't. He still calls him uncle or mister. But if he mentioned Lloyd with his friends or teacher, he would "I will ask my dad first."
After the training, three of them go home. When they opened the door, a delicious aroma filled their nose.
They saw a variety of food plates on the dining table.
Lloyd is always greeted with this warm picture after he marries you.
You were putting a spoon of sugar into the pot when you saw them, "You guys got back early."
Mark unties his shoelace. "The sky darkened, and it's going to start raining. Mister Hansen doesn't want mud on his shoes."
Lloyd shook his head; he ruffled Mark's hair. "You and your brother go take a shower before eating."
"Okay." Both of them answered together and ran to their room.
After the kids were gone, Lloyd joined you and wrapped his arms around your waist. You felt his mischievous gaze before he kissed you.
You never thought you could have this life before you didn't want anything. This was before you met your brother again, and Lloyd suddenly appeared by helicopter.
The moment they appear, your dull life turns to bright. You weren't prepared, but with them, you could do anything. The world is yours, and you're not alone in it. It's a gift, a blessing, the best gift of all. And it's yours to keep.

Angel stepped into the library, Maverick in his arms and was staring at the bulletin board. His eyes were scanning over each flyer and business card that was pinned to it. The list of jobs that Angel felt capable of was slim. There were a lot of options, prep cook, lab assistant, front desk organizer, medical assistants, nurses, but none of those were things that Angel had any experience with. That’s when his eyes landed on the business card that was pinned to the flyer that said Farm Hand needed, the business card on top reading Rancho de Valle - Este. His free hand reached up to grab the information from the pin so he could get a closer look.
Farm hand, operating and maintaining machinery, harvesting and planting crops, repairs, occasional livestock caring. Full time, housing on premise provided if desired, hourly pay, overtime opportunities, and medical insurance.
“El Ranchitos.” A voice sounded behind him.
He turned around immediately, a little startled by the voice while Maverick on the other hand cooed in excitement as he saw who was behind them.
“Sorry I did not mean to scare you.” Izzy smiled at Angel and turned her gaze onto Maverick. Her hand quickly reached out to grab his foot. “Hi, you. I missed you.” Her voice was soft now, she didn’t want to scary anyone again.
“You caught me deep in thought, that’s all.” Angel laughed as he adjusted Maverick in his arms.
“Yes, El Ranchitos.” She repeated again pointing to the papers again.
Angel looked down not seeing El Ranchitos anywhere on the forms and looked back at the woman he had brief conversations with over the last few months. “You’re familiar with them?”
“De Valle’s are very well known in this town. They own all of El Ranchitos, de Valle Este is the one closest to the city that is a harvesting ranch, they have others in the city but they’re more like resorts, they had to adapt with the change of the world.” Izzy explained. “They’re good people, kind, understanding. I think de Valle Este is like 10 minutes from here by car.”
“Thanks, yea I think I’m going to apply. Everything else is a bit out of my range.” Angel laughed awkwardly. “Just gotta figure out what I’m gonna do with him while I’m working, maybe I could hire someone to watch him if I take them up on this on premise housing.” He was thinking outloud now, but it was just a symptom of having no one above the age of 2 to talk with here.
Izzy was leaning over in front of him now, reaching for something on the bulletin board. Her hand began searching around until she found what she was looking for and pulled it from the pin. “It isn’t a nanny, but we watch the kids all day, feed them, read to them, use the playground outside on good weather days, it’s a small group too.”
“We?” Angel questioned his eyes moving from the library daycare flier to Izzy’s face.
“Okay, I, it’s my initiative. We did a trial run this summer with a handful of kids and it went pretty well. We have about 8 kids right now signed up for the school year, all local, have room for 10, I think Maverick would be a great addition.” Izzy grinned again, now looking at Maverick who giggled and brought his hands out to her in hope to be held by her.
“How was I around like all summer and didn’t notice this?” Angel laughed and happily gave the child over to Izzy.
These last few months he had gotten extremely comfortable with the woman and honestly safe with her, Angel as well. These last few months have consisted of Angel coming to most of the library events because not only did Maverick enjoy them but because they offered him peace around people which he didn’t have much of since leaving Santo Padre. There was a constant fear, a persistence to always look over his shoulder, double guess everyone he met, everyone who walked too close to him on the street, but at the library it was like that fear was nonexistent. He had made a friend in Izzy, which was exactly what he needed right now.
“I have two other people that help out, it allows one of us to take off, or be more flexible around the library.” She answered as she bounced Maverick up and down in her arms. “They’re actually running daycare now, if you want to check it out.” Her eyes moved back to Angel as Maverick’s little hands picked up her I.D. that was draped around her neck with a lanyard. “No pressure.” She let out an awkward laugh.
“No, yea.” Angel spoke up which earned him a confused look from the woman holding his child across from him. He smiled realizing how confusing his statement was. “I just meant we’d love to check it out.”
Izzy nodded and brought them both to the children’s area of the library and opened up the decent size circular room that currently had a group of kids of a variety of ages drawing on tables.
“Sticker drawing. Helps them with open ended exploration, we let the older kids come up with a story based on their drawings and the younger ones like it too.” She was placing Maverick down on the ground and he was quick to find himself at the small table grabbing a sheet of his own.
“How big is the age range?” Angel wasn’t sure why he was asking questions, he knew this was the best place for Maverick if he was to get this job.
“Right now 1 through 5. This group is a bit older because it’s the summer.” She put her hands over her chest as she watched over the kids.
Before Angel could answer there was a little girl who was about 4 walking up to Izzy holding out her sheet of paper towards her.
“Wow, that’s beautiful.” The little girl was being brought up into her arms and instantly throwing her own around Izzy’s neck.
“Well the kids sure love you.” Angel smiled.
“I hope this one does.” Izzy rocked from side to side similarly to how she was with Maverick just minutes earlier, but this time she looked at the girl in her arms and kissed the side of her head. “This one’s mine.”
Angel found himself at a loss of words at that statement. He didn’t expect it. It automatically made him think about his friendship with Izzy, this was something huge that she so easily went without mentioning. Then again, it wasn’t like she knew everything about his life, but she knew a lot about his current life, and this felt very much like her current life. Between not knowing about the daycare and now her child, he felt like he needed to take a major step back.
“Are you okay?” She interrupted Angel’s thoughts.
“Yea, sorry. Just didn’t realize you had a kid.” Angel wanted to rewind the last 10 seconds so he never said those words.
Izzy’s face dropped a little and she looked back down at her daughter and placed her back on the ground and stayed at her level for a moment. “Go back with your friends, Abrielle.”
As she stood up she turned to Angel, and nodded towards the door. For a moment he hesitated and looked at Maverick. “You can take him, but Olivia doesn’t mind watching him.” She pointed to the woman with the lanyard similar to her own that was at the smaller kids table. With a nod, Angel was walking out of the room and standing awkwardly in front of Izzy.
“I know you understand the need for privacy, Angel. The need to keep things to yourself. If I recall the first time I met you, I put my own address in for your library card because you were two nervous to give out information.” It felt scolding almost the way she was speaking.
“I–” Angel went to speak but she cut him off by holding up her finger and speaking over him.
“I don’t need a reason to make a choice regarding my child, Angel.” Her accent came out strong when she said his name. “You out of all people should get that.”
“I do, I’m sorry. I just thought we were friends.” Again, Angel was wishing he would just keep his mouth shut.
Izzy sighed, her guard immediately falling down and with a shake of her head she spoke. “We are friends, Angel. I just need to be cautious with her.”
“I get that.” He nodded. “I didn’t mean to do whatever this is.” He waved his hand around and laughed awkwardly. “If anything, I’m glad you felt comfortable to tell me, it’s cool, having a parent friend. Haven’t had many of those really.”
“Well if you do the daycare thing, you’ll make more during pickup and dropoff.” She matched his humorous tone.
“Don’t know if I want that.” He chuckled nervously.
“Why do you think I don’t tell many people I have a child.” Her eyebrows raised and her mouth curled into a smile.
Angel laughed. “Well then I’m honored to be accepted amongst the few.” He looked through the window of the daycare door and saw Maverick laughing at something and he turned back to Izzy. “I’d like to sign him up, even if I don’t get this job, this is the right place for him.”
Izzy smiled at that comment, she went to say something but bit her tongue immediately. Her desire to say that this is the best place for Maverick and him was high but she held back and simply nodded.
“Let’s get you two signed up then.”

Park Ranger! Halsin x Park Ranger!Reader
Modern!Au because why the hell not?
Summary: may or may not have been heavily inspired by the park rangers I grew up around at my local culture center. That little old place holds such a special place in my heart. I am a junior park ranger after all 😎
Tumblr media
Sweat beaded at your brow, but your hand was quick to delicately pat it away. The summers were unforgiving, even under the gray skies of the early morning. Though you could see off to the distance, just peeking over the green tree tops and old buildings of the past, just the faintest hues of orange and reds just ready to burst from beyond their little horizon. With the rays came the few farmers that lived within the small town, bidding their wives and children goodbye, the faint yelping of a dog from behind their glass windows are their happy panting as they hopped up along side their masters in their pick up. They would only have to drive a few miles further up a ways to hit their farms where they have been settled for the past 100 years or so.
It was an odd place to have a little culture center in such a small town, but a small town emblazoned with their own culture and tradition. Old murals adorned the sides of old buildings, depicting musicians and food. Though many of the locals didn’t visit the culture center, maybe occasionally for their child’s school field trip, it definitely didn’t see the action of it’s sister centers in the bigger cities nearby, but around certain holidays it would see it’s fair share of tourist, but now it was just another simple day.
This was far away from what you thought a park ranger would ever be doing. You always pictured a Steve Irwin type herding people through muddy river basins or through rough and rocky terrain along forest trails. You’ve come to appreciate the cultural and historical aspect of it all, it was probably for the best.
“Oh this stupid damned thing!” Huffed out a voice as you pushed past the glass doors. A thud came after it as a woman scrunched her face to the old thermostat. “You would think they would allow us to control our own AC instead of having to call the head office!”
“Now Ms.Jaheira, patience is a virtue!” You teased, your hat now being placed upon your head, fingers pinning the badge to your freshly ironed shirt.
Jaheira was a veteran in the field, hopping from one national park to the next. Her knowledge was admirable, but sometimes you would always catch the look of longing in those wise eyes, but the laid back nature suited her, at least now it did. It was less of a burden on her weathered shoulders, less pressure upon herself. If you did have to categorize her, she would have been the Steve Irwin type you always imagined as a child. She was the one to hobble through muddy basins and conquer rough woodland trails.
“Well good thing the all maker has bestowed such a prized gift onto you!” She chimed up, finally the ancient AC humming to life. Already the cool air began cutting through the stiff air like a knife. “It’s field trip day, remember”
She was already following you to the break room, her steps always precise, always made with confidence. Though she still gave you a stern look as your head tilted back with a little groan as you tossed your purse onto the table.
“Yes I know, which is why I have double checked with everyone today. Musicians are gonna be the first for their music demonstration. Then our local butcher has kindly volunteered for a cooking demonstration and you would be pleased that he is exonerated in one of our local dishes” your hand went to grab the phone out of your pants pocket, now scrolling through emails to double check your memory of the day’s itinerary. “Then dear old Elminster will calm things down with his history of the area and whatnot, then lunch time which has been donated. I also contacted wildlife and fisheries to have someone teach the kids the laws and safe handling of the wild life of the area, but they said they are sending over a ranger from one of the wildlife parks….oh! And then the old woman who runs the quilting club in the spare room will give a weaving lesson”
“Wow, I’m impressed” Jaheira said with a raise of her brows, a hand sassily placed upon her hip. “And you will be pleased to know I have set up the rooms for the different demonstrations, the band is here, Elminster is currently critiquing our displays, and the food preparations are all in order” she confirmed with you. Always orderly, you can always trust her to keep everything in line as well. A nice pair the two of your made. “It’s just our fellow park ranger we are waiting on…” she huffed out as she looked to the watch upon her wrist.
There was no time to worry about that, as the quiet humming of engines were already heard within the small break room. The wholesome sounds of buses, the chirping of kids and their teachers already urging them to quiet down. That was Jaheira’s cue to walk back to the front, opening the doors, that prideful smile upon her face as she greeted the children, their small bodies already pouring into the room, her voice already rising above all others to give off the usual spiel.
“Alright children! Are you ready to learn about your culture and history!’ She shouted excitedly to the children, already leading the group to the displays that lined the halls and little rooms, skillfully giving her explanations to the group of kids.
It left you to round up the musicians into their places, checking in on the cooking demonstrator, but of course…that left Elminster.
“Stop a bit and speak to an old man” he huffed out behind that wise, old beard of his as he clutched a shaky hand onto your outstretch arm.
“Maybe later Mr.Elminster, there’s a lot to do as you know” you said with a smile as you began urging him to the room that the band was setting up. “The kids are going to listen to the music, then head to the cooking demonstration and then head back to you, so it will give you much to ponder of how you are gonna educate them” you spoke up as you lead him to the room, helping him sit upon one of the upholstered chair.
“You are certainly right my dear, even though getting older is suppose to make one wise, it is still hard to find that right words, especially on an empty stomach” he said with a wink, but you already knew what he was eluding to.
“Don’t worry, I’ll have Jaheira bring you a plate when they are done with the cooking demonstration for lunch” which he gave you a kind pat on your bent down shoulder, all the response you needed to straighten up from your hunched down position. Though you were met by a towering figure the moment you turned around.
“My apologies for being late, I kind of got lost out here…” the man was huge, strong stature. Scars on his face, tattoos peeking out from his collared shirt, trailing up upon his face. You were pretty certain even if you were standing further away from him, you could still pick up the scent of fresh dirt and leaves that permeated from him. Even the faintest scent of sweat, but not in a bad way, in an endearing way if that makes sense. Like the smell of a hard working father coming home to engulf his children in a hug.
“I’m sorry, you are….?” You trailed off as you bent your neck to look at him, eyes slightly squinting to the badge on his shirt.
“Park Ranger Halsin, wildlife and fisheries sent me out here for a demonstration, I use to work for them, but I ended up taking a position at the wildlife refuge at the coast” he explained, already following your steps as you began to lead him back to the entrance. He may have not known, but you were skillfully avoiding a tangent from the old Elminster. He may have been a wise man, but a wise man with many words that lead simply nowhere at times.
“Yes of course, let’s get you set up in our other demonstration room” you spoke out, now quickly following his lead to the glass doors. “And I don’t blame you, it may be a small city, but this place is tucked away, definitely not as grand as the other culture centers” you bashfully said as you followed him up to his truck, tailgate already being lifted down with those strong, calloused hands of his. You could even see the faintest traces of dirt on his hands.
“But still important none the less” he said with a soft smile as he reached into the back, already pulling forward boxes and strangely a pet carrier. You tried to slyly lean a bit to peak at what he could possibly have stored in there.
“Oh this is Philippe” he said, almost with a childlike excitement as he opened the pet carrier. Of all things you would have never expected a raccoon to lazy start reaching up for him. But he excepted the creature with open arms. “I uh…rescued him and he’s been with me ever since. Also a good way of showing off our native species.” those strong arms held the creature tenderly, like a father to his offspring.
“I can’t say I encounter raccoons that are companions.” You were astonished, fingers tenderly giving the animal’s head a little scratch. Though those hands of yours grabbed on of the boxes he pulled forward, Philippe already knowingly hopping upon the other one as Halsin grabbed it.
“They definitely shouldn’t be pets, I know that may sound hypocritical coming from me, but you know how raccoons like to wash their food before they eat it? Well I let him do it back home…and he got ahold of my cellphone too, so not a good mix. I also learned rice doesn’t really help with water logged phone either.” You knew the scornful look he gave the raccoon was all in playfulness, which made a little laugh bubble to your lips. You could already picture it in your head.
“Your dear Philippe sounds like a menace.” You giggled out as you pushed past the doors once more, he following after you through the gush of cold air that blew up to greet you from the comfort of the culture center. Your ears also perked up to the sounds of the lively music coming from one of the demonstration rooms, intertwined with laughter of the children.
“Well, he is still a wild animal at heart I suppose” he chimed, his heavy footsteps following you to the empty demonstration room, his box being set upon the table set up front, already laying out his items.
Different pressed leaves now displayed out, the branches of different native plants. All the works of what’s was very befitting of a park ranger who dealt with the more wild side of the job description. He even had animal traps out as well.
“Alright, I’ll give you a rundown. I’m gonna inform the kids of different plants in the area, which ones are safe and not safe, native and common animals, insects, birds. I will also go over safety, why I have the animal traps.” He explained as he motioned to all the stuff he had set out. “Even though they should always be supervised while out in forested areas, it is still better to be able to recognize traps that farmers could set up for coyotes and bobcats and know not to touch them.” He listed off as he squatted down to once again cradle the raccoon in his arms, the raccoon lazily accepting his fate in the comfortable embrace. Now that the fast paced introduction was over, you could finally admire the man before you.
Yes he was tall and strong, but attractive. His hair whisped about his shoulders. A braid or two peaking out and adorned with thin pieces of colorful thread and an occasional decorative bead. Even having such an intimidating stature, those eyes were kind and gentle. Almost as if you were starring into the eyes of a farmers most trusted companion, his loyal dog. Those scars upon his face couldn’t diminish that softness.
But his shirt….you could see those well earned muscles bulge beneath that gray uniform shirt. Who knew those frumpy uniforms could look so flattering. You didn’t let your fleeting eyes linger for too long as you connected your gaze with his again.
“Well I’ll leave you to finish setting up, but I’m sure the kids will enjoy dear old Philippe, I’ll send the group over after the cooking demonstration, I can try and push back Elminster after everyone has eaten, maybe it will help him be better with his words.” You couldn’t help but give a little huff of a small laugh at your own little joke, even if he did not understand quite yet himself, but he only nodded, that kind smile still upon those lips.
“Me and Philippe will be waiting happily” he said, motioning to the raccoon whose head simply lulled lazily about. Such a pampered and spoiled creature, you could tell he was lovingly cared and doted on.
Elminster was delighted by the news once you quietly reported back to him when the kids had all migrated to the cooking demonstration room. So your little hunch about him wanting to eat first was correct.
“So…I see our fellow park ranger is quite the sight…” Jaheira spoke out quietly to you from the back of the food demonstration room, arms crossed over her chest. “The scars may be a dead giveaway from at least having something to do with the great wild, but tattoos? That would have thrown me off…”
“Oh I know, I honestly didn’t have much time to ponder over that when he first got here…” which was true, wasn’t something you saw everyday, not even from the culture centers in the bigger cities. “But it gives that rough edge, should excite the kids more. They might be slightly disappointed when he actually begins to speak, he is quite soft spoken.”
“Interesting…” was all she managed to say before she stepped forward to chime into the demonstration. You and Jaheira switched off though, she fixed herself and wise Elminster a plate for their little lunch, tucking away back in the break room to enjoy their meal as you beckoned the kids to where Halsin waited.
Their excited eyes upon seeing the raccoon brought a dumb smile to your face as your looked to their excited faces as they all sat down, all sitting at their edge of their seat.
Honestly it was all quite interesting, watching Ranger Halsin expertly explain everything, to simple ways to tell the difference between leaves, to why a plant was named whatever it was named. Even to the animal traps, you couldn’t help but almost have the same wide eyed expression as he would set them off and warn them of their dangerous nature and explaining that it was important to always stay away from them an such.
And of course, can’t forget about Philippe who got all the loving he needed for at least a month. By the end of the day he would probably want his own space even from his master’s arms.
Sadly the kids were beckoned off for lunch, giving the last goodbye to Philippe, but their sadness was quickly forgotten by the food that was now being provided to fill those stomachs. That left you carrying a plate to the break room, where Halsin now sat, Philippe away eating his own meal at his feet. The Ranger gladly took the plate, you now sitting across from him.
“I forget how it is, you know, dealing with children, I miss their excitement and hunger for knowledge…” he spoke up, voice almost rumbling in the small break room.
“Must be a different pace from what you are use to” you chimed up, handing him a napkin, which he also accepted.
“Indeed, but I prefer this, adults can be cruel. Their egos get in the way of everything…” a soft frown pulled at his lips, but it was quickly washed away with a bite of food. “They always venture off, get lost, put themselves in danger, never eager to learn. Children on the other hand, they devour everything that is told to them.”
“Plus this place is also charming, believe it or not, I come from an even more rural place than this” he spoke, a sense of nostalgia dripping off his words “nothing but swamps and forest for miles…”
“Then it makes sense why you are in this profession” you said as you began eating.
“Well I started off in wildlife and fisheries, but it became too much. Hunting season is the worst to deal with. Neighbors get mad about who is hunting where. Poachers…god the poachers. But park ranger life is more befitting, I find it better to teach rather than deal with petty wildlife disputes.“ you knew about those disputes all too well, sometimes you would hear about those petty disputes in the local grocery store between old farmers or just the locals gossiping about someone they knew.
“Well it all is a bit different than what we deal with here. Our other ranger Jaheira has more experience with wildlife. I didn’t get much of a chance to, but I learned to find this outlet satisfying.” You admitted as you pushed your plate aside, hands now removing your hat. Halsin followed your move. It was like you could now finally see his face fully, but it was not a disappointment, not at all.
“We do forget that history is also very important, remember, you are the back bone in the preservation of history and that needs just the same amount of importance as wildlife, even if history may have not been so kind to it.” Halsin had such a way with words, voice speaking them so smoothly, he was seeming to hold a much greater wisdom than Elminster, who you could faintly hear drowning on and on about traditions and all stories. You can already picture those school children comforted by food just fighting the sleep that wanted to take over their senses.
“You are definitely right about that..” your head could only picture the old photos of the town you reside in, how those old photos showed a spread out community with so many fields in between. Now it was only pothole filled roads with shady patch jobs, small town lawyers offices, and an occasional fast food joint.
Humanity at its finest.
Something about the way he looked at you, it made you almost bashful. An intense stare, endearing, and comforting all at once. You could feel a wave of multiple sensations travel up your spine in a shiver. All you could do was fiddle with the napkin that sat in front of you, struggling to find the right words to piece together in your mind.
“Are you free? This weekend?” He finally spoke up “I mean tomorrow, I’m sorry if I come off as strong” he finally managed out, honeyed words now seeming to be nervous. “But, I would like to take you to the refuge I work at, I finally got my boat fixed up.” His fingers were now the ones fiddling. Though you can only smile as you nodded your head.
“Yes I would love to” and with that, a number exchange was made and a timid goodbye was bid as he loaded up the last of his things, tailgate making its way down that old town road.
“A date at a refuge huh?” Jaheira’s voice almost startled you from your trance of staring out the door, the culture center now quiet and still, now almsot seeming empty and lonely from the once lively state it was in.
“Oh hush….” You dumbly muttered out as you began to straighten everything up. There was no mistaking that soft hint of pink upon your cheeks.
The nervousness only set in until that morning when you could only stare at yourself in the standing mirror in your room, poking and prodding at the old clothes you decided on. There was no use in wearing something nice if you were going to spend time on a boat. You were cut short from your worrisome glances in the mirror as you heard an engine rumble again from outside your quaint little home, already rushing to the front door to close and lock it.
Halsin was gorgeous, those early morning rays of sun doing him justice as he stepped down from that old pickup truck that was covered in a layer of first, boat already hooked up to the hitch. Handsome in his own clothes, wrinkle, stain, and all. Hell you didn’t even mind the thin layer of mud that caked the heels of his boots. Though quick good mornings were said as he helped you into the passenger seat, soon leaving a trail of dust behind.
It was peaceful, the morning sun shining down through the windows and soft music playing through the radio, the wind from the rolled down windows whipping your hair about and his. The smell of dirt and forestry strong within the interior of the truck, but that was probably due to the fur leaves and crumbs of dirt that peskily made their stay on the floor, embedded into the mats of his truck. It was nice, even when the dirt scented air turned into the consolidating smell of muggy marsh as the refuge finally rolled into view you appreciated it.
Soon your hair was whipping with the winds that blew by once upon the boat, the hum of the motor steadily humming, the soft solaces of the waters rolling by refreshing on your face and exposed arms. You couldn’t help but reach out and run your fingers upon the wild rice that made their homestead on the steep banks that rolled by. The boat came to steady stop , Halsin leant back next to the motor, glancing down to the murky waters below.
“It’s been awhile since I’ve been here…” you spoke out softly as you also looked to the waters below, watching the adolescent fish ripple the surface in their young curiosity, but would quickly dive down deep into those waters if a shadow would move too quickly. “I use to come all the time when I was younger.” You finally looked up and over to Halsin, who was now looking to you with that soft smile.
“Same here, it’s what pushed me in this direction in life.” His own words were also soft, as if not to disturbed the surroundings around you. “Growing up I would wake at the crack of dawn to walk along the waters, to drag my little row boat out. The rangers would always call my parents to let them know where I was, they always took me in to respite myself in their little station, showing me the things they found. Their passion ignited a life changing revelation for me.”
“Agreed, but once again, it lead me down a completely different route, but now that I think about it, I may have been life telling me I was needed else where. A gentle nudge showing me that I’m probably not cut out with dealing with lost folks along riverbeds and trails.” You joked, Halsin’s laughter joining your own.
“Like I said, it’s definitely not fun.” He added with a grin, now moving from his spot next to the motor to be closer to you, hefty body shaking the boat gently, disturbing the waters that had finally calmed down from your arrival. His hand was rummaging in the beat up ice chest that now was situated next to him, handing you a chilled canteen of water “But, it was a better fit, being a wildlife officer made me forget about the simplicity of nature, the calmness of it.”
The calmness of nature, but you couldn’t decide if it was nature itself that was the calm one, or Halsin’s gentle touch to the land doing the calming for it.
The day was spent laughing and sharing stories of nostalgia, of work, of life. You found the muscles in your cheeks hurting from the permanent smile upon your face as the two of you listened to each other intently with care. It was almost a shame when he rolled you back up to your house, that morning glow now replaced with the setting sun, everyone basked in a dark orange hue, but you didn’t mind, that color gave you a since of fulfillment as you took his calloused hand in yours as he helped you down back to solid land.
“Thank you for joining me, I really enjoyed your company” he softly spoke out, that intense stare now locked onto your own, but this time it was bashful, but that shiver of emotions traveled up your spine nonetheless.
The same could be said for him as that calloused hand still gingerly held onto yours.
“I did as well…” you felt dumb as that’s all you could say, that stare almost halting your thoughts, sending your mind into blankness, that hand of his sending a burning sensation through your fingers.
“If you don’t mind maybe we could….do this again?” He spoke out hopefully, those eyebrows furrowed together to match that hopefulness that dropped from his words.
“I would love to, maybe you can even visit here…?”
“Yes, I would love that….”

If konrad Curze ever reproduced the result would undoubtedly be one of those children who insist on climbing way to high up trees and scaring the shit out of their parents.
That and being way, way too into hide and seek. And catch. I like the idea of them being sweet as sugar but having the energy.
I have this oc of his child being raised by rich farmers. Why rich farmers? They are farmers for the idyllic farm life and comedic potential of Curzes child still being that pale despite growing up in the sun and that farms are in a way the thematically opposite of inner city nostramo. I really like the idea of the child of Konrad Curze being raised by people who know who/what they are and tries to shelter the kid. The following is more specific to that oc (rather than generic x reader stuff) but in case people enjoy it:
Mother has a large and supportive family
Moved back in with idyllic farm parents upon learning of the pregnancy
If Konrad himself is still around any stereotypical movie scenario of a corrupt businessperson attempting to screw over the idyllic farm is going to be met with the goddamn nighthaunter
Family telling Curze NOT to maim people for rising the price of apple seeds or whatever by the equivalent of 50 cent
Konrad Curze is unsurprisingly good at catching predators bothering the farm animals, now he is being told they are "just trying to eat too" and has to gently relocate them instead of killing them
Konrad Curze hiding in a haypile
Konrad Curze milking a cow
The mother herself is a very sheltered person and (assuming Konrad went crazy and is not around) paranoid about the kid turning out like him, leading to the kid ironically having the exact opposite problem of Konrad (but not to nearly the same degree) being raised wrapped in cotton.
Konrad 2.0 does not know how to fight as an adult as a result (but will learn
Mother calls Konrad "coco" for his black hair and eyes.
Baby Curze being fucking adorable, wearing those ugly bright yellow rubber boots and holding an umbrella.
Baby curze looks the most like a primarch out of all the primarch children not out of any supernatural reason but being the first who happened to both be male and primarily inherit the fathers physical traits.
-🟩
Props to baby Curze for trying to defeat the latent mayhem having half Curze dna does to you lol

little bean - em x fem!reader
Tumblr media
This is my submission to @oneforthemunny‘s summertime writing game. I chose to do a wildcard 🃏 submission for cowboy eddie and sweet girl. I hope I did them justice and that everyone enjoys this sweet little story about dad!cowboy!eddie as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Pairing: Dad!Cowboy!Eddie Munson x Sweet Girl!Reader
@oneforthemunny @munsonology
Warnings: talk of pregnancy, reader being called little mama, afab reader, brief mention of car accident. please let me know if I’ve missed anything and I’ll update my list. (This isn’t edited. hopefully it’s all good. Enjoy!)
A/N: this is heavily inspired by personal experience with one of those ride and spring ponies that my sister and i had growing up. all header pictures are from pinterest, credit to the og owners of the photos. graphics by @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
“Can you please uncover my eyes now?” you plead with your fiance as he guides you outside to see his latest surprise. You and Eddie had never really talked about having kids, always considering the many farm animals that you’d convinced him to adopt over the years as your pseudo-children. So when you’d found out that you were pregnant after a fender-bender, you and Eddie had the realization that you both wanted this little bean to be a part of your life.
This brings you to now, 6 months into your pregnancy. The morning sickness had wrecked you for a while and your cravings had been intense and random. Pickles and peanut butter, sardines and fiddleheads, copious amounts of cheese doodles. But Eddie had taken everything in stride, making the 20 plus minute drive into town to hit the only 24 hour mini mart in the area whenever the urge for a midnight milkshake struck you. He’d truly been a saint, he’d always been good to you, treated you like a princess, but seeing you round with his child had unleashed another side of him, one that was incredibly tender. Without hesitation the two of you had decided to be surprised when the baby came, knowing that no matter what you had, it wouldn’t change the fact that you two were going to spoil, cherish and raise your little bean to be a kind person.
“Just be patient for a second more, little mama. I don’t wanna spoil the surprise just yet,” he murmured, a grin evident in his voice.
You huffed in fake annoyance, crossing your arms after the screen door, thwapped shut behind the two of you.
“Alright, ready?”
“Yes, Eds! The suspense is killing me!” you squeak, bringing your hands up to grab at your man’s calloused hands where they rested over your eyes.
He chuckles as he lets his hands be pulled from your eyes. You blink a few times to adjust your vision before taking in his latest surprise. In your silence, your feel him lace his fingers with yours as you feel the familiar burn of tears in your eyes.
“I know little bean won’t be able to use it for a while after they’ve made their grand entrance, but it was the last one in the store and sweet girl, I just couldn’t resist.”
You turn and kiss him softly. “It’s perfect, I love it.”
Sitting on the front porch is a ride and spring horse, almost identical to the one that you’d described to Eddie. You’d been telling him how, despite being a city girl, had spent many of your earliest summers of childhood at your grandparents. They lived in the countryside in a big white farmhouse style house.  Your grandfather was always a fan of black and white westerns, so you’d watched more than your fair share while your granny took her afternoon nap. You’d expressed to Eddie that those were some of your favorite childhood memories, especially when you’d arrived one day to find a beautiful chestnut colored ride and spring pony on your grandparents front lawn. The image of his sweet girl as child with little pigtails and her grandfather’s cowboy hat slipping down over her eyes as she bounced away the afternoon on that horse had made his heart clench.
“Really? It isn’t too much? I know that I’ve been spoiling little bean and they ain’t even arrived yet but…”
You cut him off with a sweet kiss, cupping the back of his neck with your free hand and pouring your love and appreciation into the kiss. “It’s perfect,” you repeat as your lips part and he breaks into a grin as you bump your nose against his affectionately. “Thank you, for the horse and for taking care of me and bean. Thank you for listening to me and remembering those little details I shared with you.”
He grins wider, eyes crinkling with it. “It’s my pleasure, sweet girl. You two are my whole world.”
You grin at him, “You forgot about Medusa, can’t have her feeling left out now.”
He chuckles and rolls his eyes at you, “Well, you’re right about that, sweet girl.”
You kiss him again. “Always am, aren’t I?”
He rolls his eyes, “I’ll give you most of the time, little mama.”
You smirk up at him, “I’ll take it. Now come on and show me what else you got.”
He furrows his brow at you, “What are you talking about?”
“I just know you didn’t leave the store with just that toy, lay it on me, what else did you get?”
He sighs, “You know me far too well, sweet girl.”
“It’s because I love ya handsome, now show me the goods.”
He chuckles as you settle on the porch swing he’d installed for you when you’d first moved in with him. “I’ll get the bag.”
You giggle and kick your feet up resting your hands on your bump, stroking your thumb over it tenderly as Eddie ran to the pick up to grab the rest of his haul. As you watched him go through everything that he picked up for your future child, you knew that there was no way that you would wanna do this with anyone but your Eddie.

A little family
Pairing: Sebastian (SDV) x F!Reader
Warnings: None, just straight up fluff.
Word Count: 775
Dawn's notes: If you know Grandpa's Theme that is the song you are playing, if you don't know it, listen to it. I have been playing a lot of Stardew Valley (yay for putting my gaming laptop to work for once) and I just really love Sebastian.
Tumblr media
Days like this were some of the worst, a sick child who could not sleep a full night or a hold food down most of the time, while you were working hard on the farm Sebastian took your son Kai to Harvey.
“Here is the prescription that he will need to take everyday for the next week, if it doesn’t get better bring him back to me and we can do something more.” The good doctor smiled at him.
Sebastian was tired, Kai was tired and he could only imagine what you were feeling; working outside in the warm summer heat of Pelican Valley tending to the farm, taking care of the animals, helping out the town in what little time you had, raising your son with him. “Thanks doc, we will keep you updated.” With that he made his way out of the clinic, saying goodbye to Maru on his way.
Luckily Kai was sleeping now as the medicine kicked in with his system, slowly he stepped onto the farm, spotting you in a big sun hat to prevent a sunburn your head shot up as the farm animal ran from your side to his. “What did Harvey say?” You asked making your way over petting the cows on the way.
“He said that some medicine everyday for a week should help him and if it does not get better bring him back. We will have to get ready for a possible trip to a Zuzu city hospital.” Sebastian was so new to this that it was stressful, he was thinking about the money the two of you would have to save, who would watch the farm during that time for you?
“Sebastian,” your voice brought him out of his head as you took Kai from his arms making sure to keep him out of the sun. “If we have to go to Zuzu city we will, we have the money, we can ask Sam and Abby to take care of the farm for us. It will be okay.”
“Okay.” Taking a deep breath as his eyes met yours. “Okay dear.” Seeing you smile holding your kid made him feel better, the three of you were going to be okay, everything will be fine.
“You are doing great as a father, he is lucky to have you.” With that you placed a kiss on his cheek and started walking to the house. “I’m going to lay him in his bed, I am almost done with farmwork so why don’t you stay inside and I will take a rest day.”
That is exactly what he needed, he followed you inside, sitting down in his chair in the living room. He was a good father, you said that he was. He was taking care of his baby unlike his father, he was present in his son's life, he loved his son.
It only took roughly an hour before Kai was up and crying again, instantly Sebastian was on his feet running up the stairs taking his boy out of his crib, rocking him. You were inside a few minutes later, quickly getting a cool compress and some warm milk, trying to make him feel better.
After a few minutes the three of you moved downstairs into your shared bedroom sitting on the bed staying close as a family. Sebastian didn’t know how long this went on with the three of you sitting together before night fell.
You looked tired, ready to just collapse but he watched as you carried Kai over to his keyboard and started to play a slow smooth medley humming along as the toddler sat in your lap watching as your fingers danced so carefully over the keys.
“What are you doing?” Sebastian asked curiously as he joined you on the bench.
“When I was a baby and couldn’t sleep my grandfather used to play this for me and it put me right to bed, said it worked on my dad too.” Your smile was a sleepy one as you played, it seemed to still have an effect on you.
The three of you sat in silence as the notes went through your house, the crying of your child stopped and soon snoring took its place. “It works on the little guy.” He whispered looking at the young boy with a head full of black hair slumped against your stomach.
Suddenly your head met his shoulder as your breathing slow and gentle, the medley worked on you too. Carrying the two of you to bed, Sebastian slid in right next to you. “Thank you, for giving me everything I could have ever wanted.”

A singleparent!au featuring Kita Shinsuke & one kickass paralegal!reader (y/n-san)
Kita is going to be a bit bitter, a bit unkind, and ultimately comes around to knowing that whether or not he steps up to the plate as a parent or not, yn will be there for the child no matter what.
Rating: T/M (teen to mature because of theme)// angst -> fluff
Pairing: Kita Shinsuke x One Night Stand// Kita x Lawyer YN
Word count: tbd
Tumblr media
because in another timeline, this kid is definitely either a gojo or a kita...lolol
it's the holidays in your office in an extremely small town. not very many lawyers typically drive by the open rice fields and farmlands for the city outskirts of hyogo, yet here you were in your little station wagon with a sleeping toddler in the backseat. the little guy was so beat after a long day of paperwork, packing, and travel. he was no older than three and a half, his mother surrendered her rights as she had been scouted abroad and could not find anyone to take her son in. the issue was the kid, who was both an accident and a surprise, happened when she asked her former neighbor from middle school to have this one night stand right before college graduation.
it was an odd thing to hear since usually by that time, people would either have confessed their harboring crushes between middle school and college, yet you can clearly see time was of the essence. the son, or in this case, keita-kun (or 'kk' as you affectionately called him), was the result of such a one night stand. you read and re-read the file so many times, you were flabbergasted to find out you had to travel to your own roots to visit an old friend. would the rice farmer with sharp features and even stricter self-discipline believe your story? would he turn you away at the bitter mention of his one night stand counterpart?
you pause your what-ifs worse case scenario spiral at the stop light right before making the left turn to the rice paddies of one kita-farms. checking your rearview mirror, you see the boy still asleep in his child safety seat, clutching a little plush rabbit which you had bestowed upon him to be brave in the courtroom when his mother had basically legally abandoned him. you stepped in as a guardian on behalf of the prefecture and it's laws regarding minors. however, you think visiting an old friend during an impromptu alumni reunion trip is probably not the best idea, yet it was the only idea. you don't know how, but sunarin and even under the tutelage of ojiro aran, you were coerced to bring the tyke with you.
so, on a friday night, at 18:57 sharp, you pull into the driveway of kita's family home. there's a willow tree the family had planted for his now deceased obaa-san, and you look up beyond the dashboard to the sky, praying she'd guide you somehow from beyond. the little boy stirs, and you gently call his name to him as you get out of the car to open the rear passenger door. by the way, the station wagon you drove was a repurposed police car thanks to your cousin from miyagi winning the police academy auction. regardless, you wake keita a little more. looking now at him, there is no way in disputing the child is kita shinsuke's direct offspring: naturally dualtoned hair; golden eyes; tanned skin from playing outside; the nose of the woman who birthed him (the only featured keita inherited from her); and such a calm demeanor.
"remember keita, if you ever feel uncomfortable, you come running to me and i'll protect you," you say gently to him, unfastening his seatbelt.
"even if papa doesn't like me at first?" keita asks. his voice is so quaint, but you know it's filled with worry and nerves.
"mmhm, but i wouldn't count on him not wanting you," you say. "do you want me to carry you inside?"
keita nods, yawning a little more. "arigatou lawyer-san."
inside, the gathering is in full swing when you knock on the door. atsumu greets you first with the door swinging wide open and silence befalls the living room.
"you had a kid?" atsumu asks bewildered. "why does he look like kita...?... oh my god."
"miya atsumu, this boy isn't mine," you sigh. "he's my responsibility if..."
you scan the room and see kita look paler than normal.
"if his father doesn't want him. his mother surrendered her rights to be his relative five months ago. we couldn't get his birth records from the hospital he was born in burned down a few weeks into the shut down from 2020..."
the door is shut behind you, keita turns to look around the room. there's so many guys he feels overwhelmed by their size he curls back into you and is a little withdrawn, but he observes with his eyes. he takes into account who you're close to. you're offered a seat by sunarin who asks the boy's name.
"how rude of me, sorry kk. guys, this is keita. go on, you can say hello, yeah?"
keita nods and he pushes himself off me, yet he sits in my lap a bit and repreats: "hi i'm keita." to everyone in the room.
we all wait until kita's reaction to having me hold his child registers in his mind.
"i'm kitashin," is all kita says to us both before announcing the firepit should be hot enough to start grilling, so he leaves.
"kita?" you hand keita to sunarin for a bit since he's good with kids and keita seemed comfortable with your best friend within the group. "keita, stay with sunarin. i'm sure you'd love to hear all the stories about the chuppets bets we did as kids, yeah?"
"mmk," keita smiles softly and i kiss his forehead and suna gives me a hopeful look. the rest of the guys do too.
"kita's pissed," atusmu whispers lowly to his brother and gintama.
"but my question is, why did y/n-san take the case? did the one night stand lady trust y/n-san only to tell kita all this?" ojiro asks.
"...mama didn't like me very much," keita says holding his rabbit plushie tighter. "she said i was a mistake."
"kid, that's a little dark," suna replies holding the boy a little closer.
"but y/n-san said i wasn't a mistake, so she asked me if i wanted to get away from the city hall and mr judge said it's ok, so i went," keita sniffles a bit and five former volleyball teammates (two of which were headed to the next world's competition) calm down a very anxious three year old.
the twins and suna try to cheer him up and eventually the rest also so, filling keita’s head of stories of yesteryear when we were all carefree and foolish.
meanwhile, you chase down kita outside in his family patio. he stares at the charcoals and watches the fire crackle and burn the embers into the atmosphere. he places a few ears of corn on the grill top when you are clocked by his peripheral.
"how could you not tell me?" kita's voice is shaken and a bit perturbed. “did you ever think to—?!”
"she asked me not to," your calm demeanor persuades him to exchange a look with you. "it would be a breach of contract, you know that in my line of work it’s binding!”
you cross your arms over your chest and huff out a breath. running was not your strong suit, but you approach the fire and the man in front of it wondering what changed to have him be this harsh.
"you're just deflecting," he is angry, his voice is even in tonality.
an unbelievable thought occurred in your head. was the news that jarring for kita perhaps he’d never want to be involved with his boy’s life? the responsibility too great on his profitable farming shoulders would make him suffer a loss, not a gain? who was he to tell you about deflecting? you’re doing the best you can to, but at least you wouldn’t leave keita and others like him in his kid-sized shoes—kita seemed like he was weighing those options in his head.
"me?" you scoff. "i wasn't the one who called my office and told me he thinks he made a mistake with a woman he barely even acknowledged in middle school!"
that was a low blow and you know it. the ammunition in your tone registers as something kita rarely called someone.
"you're bitter," kita almost bites back a laugh.
"...? why do you think that?"
"you're bitter because i had a one night stand with someone who wasn't you, who’d never be you."
"excuse me?”
your voice cracked as you winced at what he said. turning your way, kita sees the face of an old friend who has literally moved mountains in unwanted foster children’s cases; someone who puts themselves last in case their friends needed support; and the words that wound the psyche are transparent.
the truth hurts, it stings like a wasp to the heart. immediately, kita picks up reality of the harshness of his words and he sees the tears well up in your eyes. quivering but steady, you give up for today and being the peacekeeper you were normally perceived to be, you wipe your face twice as tears of frustration fall down the cheeks kita missed for so much longer than his pride would like to admit, you tell him to not come closer as he starts his apology.
“you said enough, kita. i won’t push any more—keita’s going to be staying with me a while.”
you turn on your heels and before you leave the farmer to tend to his grilled corn, you leave him with this knowledge:
"kita keita, three years old. born in the spring equinox. birth weight was six pounds, four ounces. currently 3.5 years old and 36 inches tall…h-he’s allergic to nothing,” kita sees you struggling with some of the words, but you continue. “keita is strong willed and quiet. loves to chase rabbits and it’s kind to strangers. he met me on the porch of the boys’ home in tokyo when hanma broke up with me and keita gave me the rest of his gummy bears... umm… he is an avid reader although he’s younger than most kids who can. adores the smell of rain after a sunshower...”
your shoulders slump as you deflate, not registering how with every insight you give kita, he’s moving closer to only be out of your reach by centimeters that turn to a few feet when you put the final nail in this conversation:
“i just thought you might want to know more about your son before i sign the legal guardian papers since neither of his parents wanted to take him in and consider his existence a mistake or inconvenience of the universe when really all he needs is someone who deserves the chance to raise him properly with a good heart even in the worse circumstances."
seconds after you leave kita's patio, he sees you walk back into his living room through the sliding glass door, pick up keita from suna's lap. you explain things weren’t going to work out here, the others you’re with were giving you some suggestions on what to do or wonders what happens now? keita, empathetically hugs you tighter when he seemed to settle on your hip, turning his back toward where his father stood, watching you comfort his boy saying soft words.
a few minutes go by and you’re shown the door by ojiro this time.
“kita’ll come around. give him time, yn.”
you nod when you’re handed a a soda and juice box to go by the others, you walk toward your car. kita is sprinting toward you coming from the side door of his family home. keita's in your arms telling you a friend who looks like him is running after you both. you close your eyes and pause your walk a bit before hearing the foot steps of kita slightly jogging behind you both.
"huh?" you shift keita on your hip when kita slows to meet you. "come to yell at me again?"
kita shakes his head, "no."
"then what are you here for?"
keita looks between his birth father and you. the story in his little head isn't like the disney movies he saw at the foster home. it rarely ever is, yet when keita sees kita press his forehead against yours and his arms pull you three closer together, keita visibly relaxes. kita holds you both very close and he chooses his path.
"i'd want to take care of keita," kita says against your cheek. "with you."
"...can we think about this tomorrow over coffee? i have to check in to our hotel on fourth street and third avenue. stop by the lobby at 8a.m.?"
"deal."
[[one month later]]
kita waits with you after keita's fever landed him in the pediatric emergency room. you never had to deal with keita's fevers being so high during flu season. panicked and frightened, you called kita, who thankfully decided to meet you at the hospital clinic. kita calms you down while keita is heard coughing and wheezing.
"he was just fine a few hours ago, and i thought the fever reducer would worked. and-and-i didn't know who else to call," you pace and kita, bless him, holds your shoulders and tells you you did good.
"...the rest is up to keita," kita holds you and you break down because this kid of his has been through enough. you made sure keita at least goes to spend time with kita at least twice a week since your coffee appointment that time in hyogo. keita has seen so much and learned about the life cycle of plants and he never wants to leave once his father tells him you're on the way.
presently, once keita is sedated and situated in his little bed, the doctors walk out of the room to speak with the next of kin.
"i'm his legal guardian, this is his father, doctor," you introduce yourself to each other.
"what's wrong with my boy?" kita asks, you realize his voice trembles, so like any old friend would do, you hold his hand, squeezing the sides of it in a supportive manner.
"keita's fever was very, very high. bringing him here post ice bath was a good idea... um. i hope pronounce this right, y/n-san?"
"mmhm."
the doctor continues to explain that keita has a respiratory infection that can be treated by amoxicillin or the equivalent of it. you need to stay overnight as the legal guardian, since your name matched all the paperwork for keita.
"however, can i get a copy of his records?" you inquire. "i'm a family lawyer by trade and i want to make sure keita-kun was well taken care of by his mother before she abandoned him?"
kita turns to look at you bewildered his counterpart during the probable first and single memorable time he's ever had sex with someone was with a person who would consider a child an unfortunate mistake.
"yes, yes i can. let me call records and have them print out a copy for you both, ok?" doctor nods before he heads down to another patient room post giving us the ok to go into keita's room.
keita's peacefully sleeping in his superhero pajamas, his little body buried beneath the blankets keeping him cool and warm at a healthier temperature. you move to sit on his bed and kita takes the rollaway chair and he looks between you and his boy.
"irina-chan abandoned him?" kita is mortified.
"she surrendered her parenting rights," you correct. "i came to pick up keita the night before driving to your place last month...i didn't remember that the rest of the old team were coming over too until ojiro and suna told me."
there were steady beeps of keita's vitals echoing in the room. bold numbers illuminate the screen.
"y'know he called me the guardian star once," you chuckle a little. "it was after we met for the first time and i was letting him play in the playground of the boys' home in tokyo a little later than most kids."
kita is bemused by this.
"guardian star, huh?"
you nod. "you think you can do one better?"
"sure can: glue."
"glue? i'm not a school supply, kita."
"yn, you stuck with him when he needed an adult the most. i bet irina-chan would have lost her mind if she had to take him here..."
"even when you weren't sure you wanted to take him in?"
kita nods, "but that's changed. clearly."
keita stirs a bit and he opens his bronzed eyes.
"hey buddy," you brush his hair out of his face. "ya gave us quite a scare."
"mm...?"
"go back to sleep, keita-kun," you curl a finger and stroke his soft cheek and he pulls himself back to slumberland. you whisper the next part of the conversation that needed to be had with kita.
"last night, he asked me why i wasn't with you. can you believe that? keita loves it when you and i are near, have you noticed how he’d run into my apartment the several times you walked us to our door? i’m wondering if does it on purpose to see if you’re going to make a move or not…”
you shake your head at the audacity of this kid asking you to ask kita something that personal.
"well, why aren't you?" kita looks up at you and you freeze. "you already are taking great care of my boy while i sort my own problems out, but the kid's got a point. why aren’t you with me?”
you stay silent, but you hum a lullaby kita didn’t realize you memorized. he is stunned as keita leans closer to you and nudges you in his sleep and you pat his hair to the side, a hand on his chest when you sing the last note: “…and i will stay.”
“granny sang that to me,” he sighs, leaning down on the bed and he looks up at you, the light framing my outline. “you memorized it?”
“had to when keita asked me about how you were as a child…and to answer your question: you never asked me to stand with you shinsuke. i would have stayed back home in hyogo too if you asked me to before i left to pursue law school on scholarship.”
kita is thrown off by the nonchalant way you say you would have stayed when he tried to find the words at twenty years old to ask you to stay—his granny was dying and when she passed, he felt he needed to have some emotions be brought back to him. it’s why when irina, keita’s mother decided not to tell anyone about her boy’s father, returned she offered to make kita feel things again. sex was simply transactional and perhaps in his grief, he was a bit unsafe trusting the word of the woman who would birth his child only to abandon him to pursue her own dreams abroad.
“say it again,” kita now stands in front of you. you honor he maneuvered up out of his chair, cheeks a tinted hue; he seemed determined again about something you said so you repeat the first part and you hone in he wants to say his name again. kita observes the way your lips formulate the syllables of his name; it’s hypnotizing to him. you say keita’s name so effortlessly and kissed with a kindness kita didn’t know he missed.
“say what again? …oh? did you want me to say …your name?shinsu—mm?”
kita doesn’t know when it happens and neither do you, but he suddenly found himself pressing his lips against yours seemingly lighting his dimly lit world into one of technicolor. his hands stay close to your face, steadying your neck when your lips linger each other’s.
“s-shinsuke…why?”
your voice is barely above a whisper and you feel him press his forehead against yours like the first night he ran around his house to stop you from leaving. his hand holds yours just as tightly, if not tighter than when he held his sleeping son’s hand in the bed behind you.
“i never noticed how my name could sound when someone who loves me says it.”
you chuckle, remembering that was what one of the hot topics your group chat with the boys™️ from inarizaki sent back as a reply to your question of how to confess after almost a decade and a half of wondering if their former captain ever felt the same about you.
“i’ll say your name for as long as this,” taps his chest. “stays true.”
kita nods before you slide your lips atop his and come the following morning, keita wakes to see you asleep bridal style on his father’s lap on the recliner provided in the room, your head pressed against kita’s chest.
“win for lawyer-san and papa! yesss!” keita whispers to himself and in true toddler fashion, finds the nearest cell phone and somehow takes ten plus photos of you asleep in kita’s hold.
[[three months later]]
courts make you confidence. holding court, makes you nervous. however, being a client for another half of a custody case is quite interesting. the judge and adjudicator of the case for keita's parentage looks between you and kita from her bench. keita has fully adjusted into being a part of kita's life and vice versa. sure, there are growing pains and other hurdles you're sure to help out, yet, here you three were, ready to become a family unit.
"...if no one objects, then i rule this case, file 4323, legal guardianship and parenting rights instated of kita keita, be awarded to y/n, yn and kita shinsuke. congratulations everyone."
you had stayed up late the night before typing out the case notes and kita finds you in the kitchen while he let you stay the night. he makes you some chamomile tea before asking you why you're so adamant about following this through.
"because i aged out the system at seventeen," you say nonchalantly. "i aged out the system and remembered all the cases like keita's. and i'm doing this out of the love and respect i have of you although you almost lost it when i sprung keita's existence to you. you've earned it back ever since that night in the pediatric e.r. with him. you stayed and changed my opinion on you as a father figure. keita needs his father."
"but he also needs his lawyer advocate too," kita chuckles before taking a sip of his tea as well.
in the present, kita keita, now four years old, walks down the street of the family courthouse, grasping the hands of his newly-minted parents. somewhere else in hyogo, inside a house, a huge vase of forget-me-knots is tied with a ribbon addressed to you along with a long overdue question that needed to be answered with a tearful yes and even more prominent kiss.

RP PLOTTING/SCENARIO WISHLIST
If interested feel free to reply, DM, or ask for my discord!
Tumblr media
ARRANGED MARRIAGE AU (with a twist) -- In this verse Patchwork Jack is a servant for a well off family. The oldest child of said family is arranged to be married to your muse but doesn't want to do that so they force PJ to take their place (PJ is still a shapeshifter in this verse so it makes impersonaiting people easy). The spoiled rich kid switches back and forth with Jack, being actually present for court matters/important legal decisions but peaces out and makes PJ handle literally everything else. Your muse falls in love with PJ thinking they're actually the rich person they were wed to. Bonus points if the truth comes out in a dramatic way. Meant to be angst with comfort.
MODERN AU (but still fantasy bc I love fantasy species lol) -- More or less the same as his usual verse but he's a rancher who used to be in a biker gang. He has full shapeshifting abilities in this verse and is a drifter, travelling and frequently shifting forms to avoid his former gang from finding him and beating him to a bloody pulp. He works as a handyman/farm hand for hire in this verse.
City slicker x country or rich farm owner x friendly farmer neighbor: Opposites attract, right? I feel like this verse is pretty self explanatory especially if you've ever seen a Hallmark movie.
Want some angst? -- PJ tries to save someone you care about, isn't able to and per that person's dying wish shifts into them and takes their place.
More angst? -- Someone steals PJ's iconic hat, dies with it on and everyone thinks PJ is dead. Turns out he is very much alive... Except your muse has already mourned him and moved on so he's not sure if he should reveal that he's still alive or not.
Take me back -- Your muse meets PJ back when he was still running with his gang and still a warlock. He's very violent and scary in this flashback verse. Expect a fight scene or two.
Familiar Mask/Masquerade AU -- Youngest adopted child of a noble family and only shapeshifter of said family, he's not allowed to go out in public a lot... With the exception of Masquerade Balls. Much to his parent's frustration he keeps shifting forms and wearing the same mask. Will your muse figure out that the real mask is his body/shifted form or will they just think the mask he wears is trendy? Aka your muse keeps meeting someone who feels familiar at a masquerade ball but can't figure out why. Also in this verse, he sneaks out frequently and does hijinks at night. Bonus points if your muse catches him stealing from the rich and giving to the poor while still wearing his masquerade clothes lmao.
I'm a sucker for soulmate AUs. Matching soulmarks or one arm is a quote from your enemy, the other your lover are my fave tropes ngl.
Poly Ships -- I love a healthy poly ship. This cowboy has two hands and a lot of love.
Redacted ;) -- I'm getting more comfortable writing n.sfw so if you'd like to save a horse and ride a cowboy in a full out thread lmk. I'm also open to writing on discord too.

Luke Randolph x fem! Reader
Is this what they call a drabble or is it a hc?
Tags: SFW, fluff, country life, honeybees, pregnancy, breeding kink🤤, a lot of kids
Cowboy Luke who shows up at your honey farm one day and buys a crate each of lavender, clover, wild flower, heather, and buckwheat honey.
Cowboy Luke who is silently impressed by the way you insist on helping to carry the boxes of liquid gold out to his truck without breaking a sweat.
Cowboy Luke who pauses loading up his muddy red truck, the same colour as his beautiful hair, and looks at you curiously when you ask if he's going to take it to sell at a market in the city.
Cowboy Luke who grins wide with a sparkle in his lush green eyes and tells you he's gonna eat it all himself and that he reckons you'll be seeing a lot more of him since he just moved into the 500 acre ranch thirty minutes down the road.
Cowboy Luke who chuckles at your flabbergasted expression and confirms that yes, that old cow rustler does indeed have not merely seven but eight sons.
Cowboy Luke who just can't seem to get your pretty eyes, your adorable small town accent, and your honey sweet laugh out of his head when he's napping in the hay loft or riding the range for hours on end.
Cowboy Luke who comes back a month later to buy more honey, but only picks up one jar this time so that he has an excuse to come visit you sooner - this week sooner.
Cowboy Luke who keeps dropping by, saying he's too lazy to drive cattle and muck stalls, but chats you up until you let him help you with loading the hives into your truck and then rides shotgun in your truck to take the bees out to pollinate other farms.
Cowboy Luke who brings fishing gear the next time you take the bees out for a ride together so you got something to do while you wait for the tiny creatures to collect their fill.
Cowboy Luke who cooks you up a mean fried catfish with all the fixings using his catch from earlier after y'all get back to your little house on the farm.
Cowboy Luke who’s impatient for the weather to get a little hotter so he can finally ask you to go down to the lake with him ‘cause he just can't get the image of the sun kissing your bare skin out of his mind lately.
Cowboy Luke who just can't keep his hands off you after he finally makes a move, but you can't resist him either, and a few months of rolling in the hay later…
Cowboy Luke who catches a shooting star for you and puts it on a ring because he wants you and only you forever, shotgun wedding or not.
Cowboy Luke who has a hard time reining in his desire for you as the changes to your body remind him daily that it's his child you carry, always looking at you with those half lidded eyes tainted with lust that he knows you just can't resist.
Cowboy Luke who won't let you lift a finger once the baby is born, doing all the farm work and all the house work and all the baby care because he has an abundance of energy, but more importantly is madly in love with his baby girl who looks just like you.
Cowboy Luke who doesn't have to wait a year to ask for a second like he planned because you have baby fever and want him all the time.
Cowboy Luke who is over the moon when the doctor tells him you're having twins, but is secretly nervous because two boys will be a handful on top of a two year old.
Cowboy Luke who stands on the porch, his arms wrapped around you from behind, as the two of you watch your six kids run around the yard ten years later.
Cowboy Luke who never imagined he'd ever be this happy after everything he went through growing up, but who is grateful for every second of his life since he met you.

ocxcanon cringe
It’s OC X Canon week on Twitter and idk if I’m gonna do it and if I do it’ll take months and none of it will be posted anyways but i thought I’d post and give a rundown of my ships hi
(picrew used)
I don’t have many but I’m putting them under a cut just because that’s easier
Tumblr media
Yuzuki X Wren- Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns
The YuzuWren… my everything… I made them in 2020 because that was the year I started really getting into making OCs and finally played 3oT after being hesitant and skipping out when it came out due to how badly the concept of multiple villages was implemented last time. (Thank FUCK Marvelous learned from tott. Anyways) Especially because during the time of playing the file, I realized I had been repressing some horrific, horrific trauma of something that happened to me. They’re what got me through it and I ended up getting a solid 100 hours through their file!
Wren is a trans man. Along with his interest in farming, Daryl refused to accept him as a man. Gay Uncle Frank took him in not only to help get started with farming, but also to help him with transitioning. (As a side note I did not realize Wren starting to transition when he moved to his farm meant he was getting his hrt top and phallo from fucking Ford until months later and felt so FUCKING sorry for him.) (Another side note- Daryl refuses to accept Wren’s transness even after he becomes “proud” of his farm and hopes he’ll grow out of it, Marlena is happy to see how well her “daughter” is doing, and Lynn is genuinely really supportive but rarely gets to see him because of how she’s still young and lives with their parents.)
When Wren first visits Tsuyukusa, he starts helping out Omiyo and Umekichi whenever he had down time to make things a little easier for them. Obviously, this lead to occasionally checking in on Yuzuki as well. Wren got interested in Yuzuki’s jewelry early on and started trying to make more time to talk to him. From being sexually harassed from being so frail and feminine looking in his childhood, Yuzuki was very empathetic to Wren- he’s cis and he can’t possibly imagine how much harder they were for Wren having that his entire life. Finding out Yuzuki was also the unfavorite child to a significantly more horrific degree than Wren was likewise made Wren more sympathetic to him.
Anyways they get married and have gay sex and live an r/childfree life because I have having kids in these games LMAO can you tell they’re my darling yaoi

Mistel X Roland- Story of Seasons (3DS)
I started this file a while ago but recently got back to it!! And doubled the hours I had on it before in a week. Uh.
Roland was a born and raised city boy who always hated how busy the city was. He always loved growing his own vegetables on his apartment balcony and, eventually after doing research on agriculture, decided he’d do best on a farm. When a lot opened up in Oak Tree Town, home of his favorite writer, he couldn’t refuse and set out immediately. Indeed, it wasn’t long before Roland started visiting Iris regularly to talk about literature with her. Mistel, the autistic little freak he is, got curious about Roland very fast and kept attacking him with questions every time he came to talk with his sister. Roland found it incredibly annoying and started giving Mistel little presents when he visited to satiate him while he talked to Iris. This backfired, however, as it only got Mistel even more fixated on him and made him start prodding at Roland even more than he did before. Worst of all, Roland was beginning not only to not mind it, but also starting to enjoy it! At some point, he started visiting less for Iris and more for Mistel. Not that he had a crush on him. He’d never admit he had a crush on him. Eventually Mistel beat him too the punch and asked him out, and that’s where my file currently is!! Very excited to get to when he’s disproportionally hornier than every other LI in the entire series LMFAO
Tumblr media
IdiYume- Twisted Wonderland
This one is really REALLY embarrassing for me because I haven’t done romantic yume/self ships since like… middle school
My sona is a catch all one I made a few years ago; Beatrice “Trixie”/“Trix” Hart. Normally I use her/him to terrorize anime boys platonically (she was first created to be an assistant to Klavier Gavin in Ace Attorney, and I think it shows with the name LMAO), but as I got more into the series and read Book 6, I Needed to kiss Idia Shroud and used him for this as well. His name stays the same minus the nickname because, well, I’m a trans dude keeping his gendered birth name lol.
He’s a second year Pomefiore bnuuy beastman at NRC and is BFFs with Cater. Him and Idia vaguely know each other, but generally dislike each other. Online, though, he’s Idia’s favorite vtuber and ok this is too embarrassing for me sorry JDKDWKKFSKFB
I prefer them a lot after NRC, though- I view them as both being transhet (because I am transhet. bye). Idia’s boymoding at NRC, and Trix is girlmoding quite literally everywhere except the all male school he goes to. After they graduate, they start transitioning together. Its a very very intimate experience for both as they support each other through everything.
This picrew is them 10 years post NRC when they’re fully transitioned because that’s usually what I think about with them. :) They’re very happy and love each other and their 3 cats and their younger brother and his 2 dogs.
Tumblr media
Chenya X Beau Rhodes-Twisted Wonderland
My most recent ocxcanon ship and the one I have the least amount of development on because there’s so little known about RSA and Chenya is only allowed out of RSA Jail every now and then for enrichment. Beau is twisted from the rose from Beauty and the Beast! He also grew up in the Queendom of Roses, but a different part than Chenya Trey and Riddle. Him and Chenya were roommates their first year at RSA. Beau is very mature and committed to his work and studies in floral arrangement, in contrast to Chenya who’s. Well. Chenya. They end up balancing each other out; Chenya helps Beau lighten up, and Beau has better luck than most convincing Chenya to stop fucking around when he needs to.
The biggest aspect, to their dynamic, however, is something else.
I think NRC is one giant cringe compilation to RSA. They love hearing about the insane things that happen there. And, well, Chenya is childhood friends with the most ridiculous human being ever born, Riddle Rosehearts. And also Trey Clover, man who has spent his entire life being in love with the most ridiculous human being ever born, Riddle Rosehearts. Beau and Trey met as first years from Chenya introducing them, but whenever Riddle came up there was a silent “dude just wait until you meet this guy next year.” Beau didn’t know what he expected but Riddle met all of them.
Chenya does convince him to go to an unbirthday party with him though. Eventually. And he surprisingly does have a great time. That doesn’t stop the “I’ve had to listen to him talk about being in love with this guy for 8 years dude” conversations though.

You Were Marked: Day One.
a multi-chapter Din Djarin x O/C
Tumblr media
pairing: din djarin x O/C rating: will be 18+ word count: 2.8k summary: Din travels to a place near nowhere, with next to no information, but finds exactly whom he was looking for. warnings: mando'a and English cursing
You Were Marked: Masterlist
<;-You Were Marked: Prologue.
“How much?”
Greef chuckled.  “You won’t believe it.”
“Try me.”
“167 Ossum Aurodium coins.”
“You’re full of shit.”
“I won't argue with that, but that’s what the man says, as far as we can tell.  He’s using a language that we don’t recognize.  I’ve run it through all the translators that I have at my disposal, and it sounds like ‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’ That’s why no one’s touched it, that and the Aurodium.  No one thinks it’s a genuine bounty.  And the fact that the system is so far off the maps it’s not even on the Empire’s radar.”
“What's the name of the system?”
“Unmanarall.”
“Never heard of it.”
“No one has.  But it has … sketchy coordinates.  It’s way out there …. 4 or 5 days by hyperspace. Perhaps more.”
“Is there an image of the target?”
“No.”
“No?”
“Technically speaking, this bounty didn’t even come through the guild.  It was a sub-space message on a really broad broadcast.  The message starts with “Bounty Hunter”, and then the “Dooch ay mi” whatever.  Over and over.  So, I downloaded it to a puck, but that’s all I have.  Take it or not, I don’t care.  It’s probably not even as worthwhile as a blue milk run, but it would get you and the kid out of town, and you might find something interesting.”
“Or I waste all my fuel and my time and come up empty.”
“Challenge of life, my friend.”
Din stood unmoving for a long moment.  This trip would probably be nothing but folly, but the fact was he was bored and Nevarro was getting on his nerves.  Greef had been continually teasing him regarding a tract of land to “retire” and raise the boy in some sort of pastoral contentment.  Grogu really should be in training at the cloister with the other younglings, but Din hadn’t been able to bring himself to do that, much to his dismay.  “Content” was a word that he was struggling with, and the terms “mercenary” and “aurodium” had a much stronger pull.  Din took the puck off the desktop and plucked Grogu from the spinning chair. “Ret'urcye mhi.”
“Right back at you, friend.”
-- Day One --
The trip was long and uneventful, closer to five days than four.  The coordinates that he had – which were indeed sketchy – seemed to take him to the actual outer edge of the Outer Rim.  There were a couple of rocks in this system, revolving around a mediocre yellow sun, and one of them was an insignificant blue-green ball with a small moon, and that seemed to suit the purpose.  Din deftly maneuvered the Razor Crest through the outer atmosphere and through a thick cloudbank to reveal a large landmass with a brilliant blue sea, many river tributaries, and a mixture of mountains, rocky plains, and dense forest.  It was the same as a thousand other planets in the galaxy.  What he didn’t see, though, was the sign of established life.  No cities, no towns, no farms … not even a castle keep tucked into the crook of a mountain pass.  He began a heat signature scan and immediately found that the planet was full of critters, but nothing that seemed be of a humanoid nature, not that he knew if whom he was looking for was even human.  He had listened to the scratchy message on the puck over and over and didn’t hear any more than what Greef had told him.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
He knew a smattering of some other words in some old languages, and of course Mando’a, but the words that he knew didn’t make any sense when he used them to attempt to translate the message.  The furthest he got was “cranial tit ovary” and he decided to leave it there.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
He had even played it for Grogu a few times, but the child made a face, as if he didn’t care for the tone of voice on the recording, and then bit the puck.
‘Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.’
The planet itself was fairly small, so he continued his scan.  This was probably nothing more than a waste of time after all, but he had to admit that the big blue expanse of ocean was an amazing sight.  For a planet beyond nowhere, it was pretty.  Lush.  Quiet.  Then there was a series of beeps from the scanner: it had found a partially metallic set of structures that resembled buildings.  A further look showed bipedal heat signatures.
“Strap in, Grogu, I think we found where we’re supposed to go.”
As the Crest approached, the tiny fort came into view.  From above, there were two large buildings: one round, about three stories tall, and a long flat building.  A large yard separated the two, and the entire area was surrounded by a tall stone wall.  A large garden occupied part of the yard – this had people working in it -- and a small river tributary came through the walled section.  Small, but fortified well.  There seemed to be no space for any kind of craft to land, and as he brought the Crest over the yard, the people looked up, and then scattered back into the low building.  There was no sizable flat area to land his ship adjacent to the fort, so Din was forced to touch down some clicks away.  After locking down the ship’s systems, Din checked his weapons, slung his familiar bag over his shoulder, and settled Grogu into it.
Coming down the ramp, Din took in a breath of air – clean and cool, with no hint of pollution.  That was a change.  He ambled through a copse of tall, thin trees, the sunlight dappled through the leaves.  Stepping over a low shrub, he disturbed a small furry creature that shot out from under his feet, scurried up a tree, and then hissed at him.  Startled, Din took a step sideways, cracking a stick underfoot, which in turn set off a covey of some sort of brightly colored bird-creatures, their flapping wings sounding like a hurricane. Din watched them go.  Grogu pointed and cooed, entranced.
“Well, it’s at least a nice place, huh, kid?”
Stepping out of the trees, he could see the fort not far away, past a rocky area with tall grass.  As he got closer, he got a whiff of salt air from the ocean.  Yes, this was a pleasant place indeed.  Coming up to the enormous wooden doors, Din pounded on them to announce his presence.
No answer.  Din pounded again, waiting for a face to appear at the small slit in the heavy doors above his head.  But all was silent. He even tried to pull on the doors, although he was certain they wouldn’t open – the manner in which the people scattered out of the garden as he flew over was evidence that they weren’t accustomed to people just suddenly arriving.  He listened at the door and heard not a sound.
Din stepped back to consider the doors and his situation.  He could not confirm that he was at the correct fort, much less the correct planet.  He had no name of a contact or a mark, or even the knowledge of having a mutual language by which to communicate.  Technically, he had naas.  Haar'chak.  Grogu blew a raspberry, almost as a response.  Din absently stroked the child’s head and turned away from the doors.  Gazing out over the rocky field, Din thought he could see a small footpath that led between two larger boulders.  Going to it, he peered between the two boulders and confirmed it was indeed a path.  Following it, he started down a series a switchbacks that led down the rock face to a lower grassy plain.  Here, the path was less visible, but there was enough grass disturbance that he was able to follow.  This led through another section of trees, thicker this time, but the path remained.  Coming out of the trees along another rocky ridge, Din was calculating how far he’d come when a stone the size of a gorg egg careened off the rocks near his head.  He immediately stepped back behind the ridge, removing his blaster while placing a protective hand in front of Grogu.  He waited.  Nothing.  Waited some more.  In time he peered around the rock face, and another stone whizzed toward him, this time pinging off his helmet.
“I DON’T HAVE TO MISS.”
Din ducked behind the rock face again.  A small stone, to be sure, but with good accuracy.  “I BELIEVE YOU.”
A few moments passed.  “WHO ARE YOU?”  A feminine voice.  Slightly shaky.  Definitely frightened.
“A BOUNTY HUNTER.”
Another pause. “WHAT IS THAT?”
What the shab? “WHAT PART DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?”  No response.  “LISTEN.  HOW ABOUT YOU PUT DOWN YOUR ROCKS, I PUT DOWN MY BLASTER, I COME OUT THERE, AND WE TALK TO EACH OTHER?”  Nothing.  Din stowed his blaster, gently pushed Grogu down into the bag and put his empty hand out to show her.  “SEE?  NOTHING.”  Still no response.  He moved slowly out from behind the ridge, exposing his other hand, free of weapons.  No stones yet, so this was going well.  He continued to move slowly towards the direction of her voice, and then saw a low, flat roofed, open-sided building against the rock face opposite.  The structure was raised above the rocky ground, and the roof was thatched with braided grass.  a thin line of smoke came through a small metal chimney that rose from the roof.  Near the far side of the building, he could see a figure, standing stock-still.  As she stood in the shadows inside the structure, He could only see her bottom-half, wearing some kind of knee-length tunic over loose calf-length pants.  Her feet were bare.  He came a little closer, and she immediately shifted sideways, raising what appeared to be a short spear to her shoulder. Din stopped moving.  “I thought we were putting our weapons down.”
“You said rocks.  This is a stick.”
Din almost chuckled. “Fair enough.”
She shifted again, with the stick masquerading as a spear still at the ready.  She had come forward a bit, out of the shadows.  She was tall, and he couldn’t tell her age, other than that she was not elderly and certainly not a child.  Her hair fell over her shoulders and was a dark silver not unlike the color of his beskar.  Her eyes were wide, and her jaw was set with a look of murder.  They stood off, motionless, for a few moments, and then she said, “Who are you?”
“Like I said, I’m a Bounty Hunter.”
“And that is?”
“I find people.”
She shifted the stick again.  “Are you looking for me?”
“I’m … honestly not sure.”  He slowly reached into his bag and pulled out the puck.  She took two steps forward and raised the stick higher.  He put his hands in front of him again. “Let’s … lower the stick.  Listen to this.”  He set the puck to play the message.  “Bounty Hunter.  Dooch ay mi mara thel ay ur dal red woor.” At the sound of the voice coming from the puck, she gave a small shriek, dropped the stick, and backed up as far as she could.  The message played again, and this time her face contorted into panic, and she pressed her back so hard into a low set of shelves that she pulled herself on top of them.
“That’s The Bishop’s voice!  How is The Bishop’s voice in there?  What is this thing?”
Din stopped the playback.  “It’s a recording.”  She shook her head in confusion. “Can you tell me what The Bishop is saying?”
The woman opened her mouth, closed it again, and then dropped her eyes.  “The Bishop is saying …. Bounty Hunter …. Bring me …. Marathel and the Dahlrhddwhyrs.”
“All right.  Good.  Can you tell me what that means?”
“It means me.  I’m Marathel.”
“Okay.  Marathel.  Who are the Dahl …. Dahl-reddeth-woors?”
“Well ….”  She looked to her right.  “Those are.  Those are the Dahlrhddwhyrs.”  Din looked to where she was pointing, expecting to see more people who looked like her, but instead seeing a pack of quadruped creatures that were chest-high to him.  Their gray skin was stretched tight against their skeletons, with enormous sets of teeth, black eyes, and long talons on their three-toed feet.  They clawed at the ground, softly snarling.  Din immediately put his bag into a protective position, drawing his blaster on the creatures.  The woman ran forward again, shrieking, “NO!  STOP!”  At the sound of her voice, the creatures growled, turned, and galloped off towards the foothills past the building.  Grogu, annoyed with getting bounced about in Din’s bag, poked his head out to see the Dahlrhddwhyrs bound away.  The woman gasped and immediately retreated to her perch on the counter.  “What is THAT?”
Osik, what a jumpy woman.  Din stowed his weapon again, sighing.  Having had enough of this face-off, he said, “This is Grogu.  He is my …. companion.”  Grogu babbled a bit at the woman, and her face softened.
“Your child, then?”
“After a fashion.”
“Not your natural son?”
“He is a foundling.” The woman gazed at Grogu with a small smile. Shab, I should just carry the kid around like he’s armor.  He’s better at deescalating than anything else I can do.
The woman nodded.  “That makes more sense.  His ears, your helmet …. it doesn’t work.”
Din blinked.  Did she just …. make a joke?  The two stood off again, staring at each other.  Finally, Din gestured towards her.  “You are this … Marathel, then.”
“Yes.”
“And this … Bishop wants both you and these Dahl-reddeth things?”
Her face colored and she dropped her eyes.  “The Elders do, yes.  Well, not those Dahlrhddwhyrs.  They want the eggs.”
“Those things lay eggs?”
Marathel raised a delicate eyebrow.  “Of course, they lay eggs.  What else would they do?”
Din tilted his head and considered her.  She put her feet on the floor again, walked closer to the steps, and stood tall and haughty.  For the first time, he noticed that her best feature was in fact her skin … It was as fair as any skin he had ever seen, with an almost blue cast to its paleness.  Her face was pleasing enough: her eyes slightly tilted, her nose straight, her lips full and well-shaped.   He stepped forward himself, but she didn’t move this time.  He raised his foot to rest on one of the steps that led up to the platform.  She glanced at his foot, then raised her eyes to where she supposed his eyes would be.  “I was correct in assuming that was a weapon?” she asked, gesturing towards his hip.
“Yes.”
“What sort of weapon?”
“A blaster.”
“What sort of thing is that?”
Din could not wrap his head around this conversation. Was she taking the piss or was she mentally deficient? “It ….”  He searched his thoughts for a frame of reference that this woman could understand.  “It shoots out fire and makes things blow up.”
Marathel furrowed her brow slightly, as if she had been bitten by a tiny insect.  “Well, then, Bounty Hunter, and …. Grogu, of course,” she said, gesturing towards the child in the bag, “my home may not be much, but you will not bring your weapons into it.  Leave them on the steps.”
Din smirked beneath his helmet.  “But you have a stick and some rocks.”
Marathel arched her eyebrow again, but a hint of a smile curved her lips.  “Don’t make me use them.”
Din stood stock-still for a long time, challenging her to make some sort of move, or to say something.  She did neither.  Finally, he removed his blaster and the holster, laying them on the steps.  He then removed his smaller blaster, removed both vambraces, the vibroblade, and the force whip.  Last, he removed the straps that held his jetpack, and laid it next to the rest of the weaponry.   He then stood at the foot of the steps, looking up at her.  Finally, she said, “You needed all that to come here?”
“It helps to be prepared.”
Marathel blinked a couple of times at the arsenal, and then asked, “Are you hungry?”
“No.”
“The child?”
“Always.”
“Come in, then, Bounty Hunter, I will make something for him.”  She turned away to make her way back to the open hearth, where a small pot hung over the fire, and several earthenware pots sat on the hearth.  Din reached into the bag, pulling out Grogu, settling him into his arms.  Grogu looked at Marathel, and then back at Din.  His large eyes softened, and then he pointed at Marathel. Din took a breath, softly said, “Okay, then,” and ascended the three steps into Marathel’s home.
