Mario instinctively lifted a trembling arm before he even registered the embrace, powerless to resist the pull. And when Luigi tightened his hold, wordlessly inviting him to do the same, he found himself entirely unable to hold back any longer. It was then that the stupefying reality of it all finally hit Mario with full force, and he broke down crying as he gingerly engulfed Luigi in a tender hug.

There it is, folks. My last entry for the body swap concept I shared over the past few weeks. 🤲💝 This is a direct continuation of these two scenes that I wanted to explore through both illustration and text. I hope you've enjoyed this tangent! I will surely revisit it again at some point. ^-^
(Full scene below the cut 📝)
-oOo-
Mario stared, mouth agape, frozen in place.
He had been about to voice his surprise as he had looked up and spotted a second figure walking into view, but had fallen silent the second he had recognized who it was. Unable to finish his sentence. Unable to articulate a single word.
The man currently standing a short distance away from him appeared similarly struck, as if lost in a daze. His eyes were wide open and his stance unsteady, but his breathing was slow. Quiet. Calm, even. His hand slid from the rocky surface on which it was resting, and he shuffled his feet slightly as he stood a little straighter. A movement that Mario had seen a million times before and knew by heart. The detail was painful in its candid simplicity, the familiarity it emanated feeling both out of place and strangely grounding. The young man blinked, his shoulders dropping somewhat, and Mario noted that his expression wasn't one of horror or dismay.
It was one of solemn awe and sympathy.
Mario felt his jaw twitch and move feebly, but no sound came out. Distantly, he registered Princess Peach gently patting his neck in support, her touch warm and comforting. He could feel his eyes begin to sting as he swallowed, then resolutely tried again.
"L-Luigi?" He finally whispered, his voice wavering.
It didn't seem real.
Mario wasn't sure how long he had remained chained up in his cell, although the time he had spent imagining the worst scenarios imaginable had seemed to him like an eternity. The confinement and loneliness, he could handle. But no punishment or torture remotely equaled the threat that Bowser had dropped as he had turned to him, his human features distorted by an ugly and cruel sneer.
"If you do anything to try and get out of here, they're dead. That lovely Princess you're so enamored with? Dead. That miserable coward you call your brother? Also dead. I guarantee you I will kill them both, and I will make sure they thoroughly suffer to make you pay for it. Is that understood?"
Mario had already been heavily restrained at this point, faced with a squad of Bowser's best guards and Kamek hovering menacingly above them, wand in hand. But that didn't matter. He might as well have been alone with the tyrant, free and fully capable of defending himself; the dark promise would have halted him in his tracks all the same, paralyzing him with an identical wave of sickening dread.
He had only managed to give a single, haggard nod in response, and as soon as the malevolent king had departed with his troops, he had caved under the weight of his own despair. There, left alone to rot in the deepest dungeon of Bowser's fortress, he had spent many hours stagnating in emotional agony, overwhelmed by a crushing feeling of helpessness and guilt.
This was all his fault. He had fallen into his enemy's trap, and now his loved ones were in grave peril because of his foolishness. Worse yet, he couldn't protect or even warn them.
It was a nightmare come true, and the torment it had plagued him with ceaselessly had made it impossible for him to rest or think about anything else, exhausting him beyond his limits.
He was still reeling from the shock and astonishing surge of hope he had felt when the princess had entered his cell. To see her there, alive and well, reaching to offer him any form of reassurance she could despite his horrendous mistake and appearance had felt almost like an absurd dream in itself…
But to find Luigi there as well stunned Mario in a way that he couldn’t put into words even if he tried. To think of all that his little brother had braved for him - and still continued to brave, even now - was absolutely staggering.
Mario was vaguely aware of the sound of Peach's voice as she offered him a few hushed words of encouragement, but he could barely hear her. His mind felt as though it was wrapped in a thick layer of wool, fuzzy and packed. The prickling sensation at the corner of his eyes intensified, making his vision blurry and unfocused.
Luigi took a tentative step forward, then another. He was being cautious, his movements measured and small. Something in his demeanor told Mario that he wasn't doing this out of unease, or to mentally steel himself, but for another reason entirely. He was observing him attentively, trying to gauge his reaction, and it was suddenly clear that Luigi was being careful for his sake instead of his own.
The pressure at the back of Mario's throat became all at once suffocating, and he made a choked noise as he tried to press himself further against the wall he had backed into, hiding his beastly face in his hands.
"Per favore… Non avvicinarti di più", he whimpered brokenly, vainly trying to conceal himself from view.
He didn't understand how Luigi could remotely find it in himself to look at him, and less even approach him. His little brother had always been frightened of fierce creatures. Mario recalled many nights where he had held Luigi close when they were young, assuring him that no monster would ever come near him. What good could he accomplish now? In a cruel twist of fate, he was stuck as the one thing he had vowed to protect Luigi from, and there was nothing he could do to change his predicament.
He couldn’t handle the mere thought of his brother staring at him with terror in his eyes. He just couldn't. It would be too much for him to bear.
"N-non ti v-voglio spaventare", he stuttered weakly, amidst the ragged breaths shaking his entire form.
There was no audible response to his plea, and for a few harrowing seconds, Mario believed he was alone once more. Wondering, despite himself, whether he had wished so dearly to see Luigi and Peach again that he briefly managed to persuade himself that they were indeed there with him. But then, he heard a faint sigh, and was deeply startled when two very small hands took hold of his own, gently prying them away. The contact was meek but insistent, and Mario found that he didn't have the resolve nor the willpower to fight it. Gradually, his clawed paws were withdrawn from his face as he heaved and shuddered, his eyes still shut tight in mortifcation.
He couldn’t move, could hardly even breathe. He was petrified.
"Ciò non potrebbe mai accadere…"
With a start, Mario gasped and looked down to see Luigi fondly shaking his head. He was smiling, albeit in a pained and wobbly manner, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. His gloved fingers went to cup the underside of his jaw, grazing the scaly area in a gesture completely devoid of hesitation, and with seldom seen certainty, he serenely held his gaze.
"…caro fratellone," he added in a fragile murmur, before leaning forward and past his snout.
Mario instinctively lifted a trembling arm before he even registered the embrace, powerless to resist the pull. And when Luigi tightened his hold, worldlessly inviting him to do the same, he found himself entirely unable to hold back any longer. It was then that the stupefying reality of it all finally hit Mario with full force, and he broke down crying as he gingerly engulfed Luigi in a tender hug.
"Sei qui! Sei davvero qui!" He repeated like a mantra, sobbing profusely.
"Io sono qui," Luigi returned, his kind voice muffled against his neck. "Non vado da nessuna parte."
Never had Luigi been the one to comfort a scared and distraught Mario before, but in this exact moment, nothing felt more right. They both needed this, they knew, and for more reasons than one.
Standing respectfully off to the side, Peach looked on as Luigi whispered something else in Italian, causing both brothers to huff in incredulous mirth. She watched as Mario ever so gently angled his head downwards, ruffling Luigi’s hair with his cheek as he lightly stroked his back. And as she did, it occurred to her with stark clarity that they were really - and truly - two halves of a whole. Separating them seemed as awful and unnatural a thought as a world existing without either night or day. It was simply inconceivable.
Walking out from the shadowed spot where he had quietly observed the whole exchange, Junior wandered closer and stopped a few timid steps away from the princess, his gaze riveted on his feet.
"I understand, now," he mumbled dejectedly.
Peach turned to the young prince, giving him a soft and curious look. Before she could inquire about his statement, he feebly kicked at the dust and joined his hands behind his back, purposely averting his eyes still.
"I understand why this was so important to him," he elaborated, designating Luigi with a slight jerk of his chin. "Why he did all of that, and why he wouldn't back down. I didn't know they were so…"
He trailed off as he looked at the bros, a glimmer of wistfulness and empathy shimmering in his eyes.
"Inseparable?" Peach supplied for him, knowingly.
He nodded, his outwardly nonchalant demeanor however made less than convincing by his troubled frown.
"Do you… Do you think there's a chance Mario will still want to be my friend?" He eventually asked, his voice plaintive and small.
Peach blinked at him in mild shock, and with a compassionate smile, she bent down to his level.
"You have reunited him with his brother," she reminded him, emphasizing the sheer significance of that fact through her tone. When he tried dismissing it with a rueful shrug, she laid a hand on his shoulder and waited for him to look at her. "You did a wonderful thing, and we're all very grateful for it. Mario loves you very much no matter what. He'll want to thank you himself, no doubt."
Though he tried not to let it show, Junior was visibly elated and relieved by her response. He rocked on his heels with a boyish grin, looking proud and hopeful for the first time that day, and Peach found that his enthusiasm was contagious. With a pleased hum, she smoothed out her dress and motioned for him to follow her just as Mario and Luigi finally parted.
They didn't know how they would solve this issue, and if they were all honest with themselves, they were also very apprehensive about what was yet to come. But something had changed. They no longer felt defeated, lost or isolated. Where there had previously been nothing but fear and sadness, there was now love and support. A newfound assurance and sense of security. A powerful warmth that helped soothe the pain.
They were all together again, and this already felt like a victory in itself.

okay, time to actually type up my thoughts on this AU! With some new art to make it worth it.
for context, here's part one and part two.
so the basics are, Bowser is continually trying to conquer the city and being fought off by the bros, who do have superpowers (I thought about drawing lightning around Luigi's fist but I don't know how to make that look good in lineart) and costumes and "hero names," but don't hide their faces so they don't exactly have secret identities. It's more like being an actor with a stage name. Since they're fairly average-looking dudes they don't get recognized all the time, especially when they're apart, but Mario definitely does more often than Luigi.
But even when they're not recognized by the starbucks barista, people expect a lot of them. Not just stopping Bowser, but stopping everyday problems, rescuing cats from trees or standing in for a broken TV antenna. Eventually the pressure gets to Mario and he decides to fake his death and make a run for it. He's not really thinking clearly at the time and he regrets it almost immediately, but he can't bring himself to go back and face everyone's disappointment. He needs to figure himself out first.
He does at least contact Luigi as soon as he's out of the city to reassure him he's not dead. He doesn't tell him where he's going though, and Luigi can't contact him back, he has to wait for Mario to call, so Luigi does genuinely miss him and can fake grief when he needs to without too much prompting.
Bowser, meanwhile, was genuinely not expecting to "kill" his greatest rival. He never really wanted Mario dead, he just wanted the city! But he's not going to let this opportunity pass him by- Or so he thinks, until he's beaten into a pulp by the other hero that he usually forgot about.
Okay, fine, Bowser can still work with this. Heal up, regroup, give it another try- Aaaand this time he's ganged up on by three heroes he's never even seen before. What the heck is happening?
Turns out that without Mario's charismatic leader act keeping everyone reassured (and complacent), a bunch of people are stepping into the gap. Luigi, Peach, Daisy, probably more than one Toad or Yoshi... Bowser can't plan for this! They all have different powers, different strategies, different types of banter. He's overwhelmed.
So Bowser gets the idea that he needs just one hero to fight. Maybe with a sidekick, but still. That way he can time his cool speeches and minimize the amount he gets punched in the face. He already killed one of them, maybe if he works his way through the others one at a time he'll finally win. Eventually. Someday.
He gets the super crown disguise watch (I still haven't decided if there's a real guy whose appearance and name he is copying) and finds his first hero. Mario's sidekick. Should be the easiest one to fight, right? Bowser just needs to convince him that it's better for everyone if the city only has one hero at a time. It's about continuity. It'll reassure them. Give them a symbol.
Unfortunately for Bowser (and fortunately for us) Luigi is way too nice a guy to chase off some random bear person just for recognizing him and having Opinions about all this hero stuff. Luigi talks to him, addresses his concerns, answers his questions, and the guy is actually surprisingly willing to listen. Most people who try to tell him how to do his job don't care about facts and logic!
Next thing Bowser knows, he's been invited for coffee next week. That's... fine, right? This is progress! It's not a date, it's just getting close to his target! And it's definitely not a problem that Luigi is really cute and sweet and patient and has big blue eyes and a nice smile and the warmth of his handshake lingered for the rest of the afternoon...
Everything is totally fine! 👍

Somebody give me Bowser being absolutely, and utterly afraid of falling in love again
Come on people don’t be scared to break hearts
After years of rejection, maybe Bowser is just good at faking confidence? maybe secretly he’s just as insecure as Luigi huuu? Ever thought of that (probably)
Like come on, give me Bowser, having not only a fuck no why him?!? mentality when he finds out that he fell for Luigi but also a ignoring all of these emotions and waiting for them to die, is the best course of action
What do you mean every time he looks at Luigi. There’s a little ember in his eyes?His eyes are red! There’s always an ember to them!!!
Give me moment’s of butterflies and bliss just for there to be a down spiral into panic and doubt. There’s no possible way that Luigi could love me after all of the things that I’ve done to him and his loved ones.
give me a Luigi falling head over heels for the Koopa and trying to figure out whether or not if Bowser likes him
Not only that give me Luigi going to Mario and peach for advice
“ I don’t know what to do. One moment he is complementing my outfit and then the next he’s calling my eyes to blue” (insert what the fuck face here)
Mario and his wife peach had to try really hard to convince Luigi that Bowser does like him, but for some reason he’s not doing anything about it
“ I know what heart struck looks like on bowsers face and he certainly looks at you that way weege”
But It wasn’t until peach mentions bowsers history of rejection in were both Mario brothers were like oooooooh *face slap*
Now, technically by this point Luigi can just ask Bowser onto a date, but that’s too easy, so how about instead Luigi just blatantly flirts with Bowser in hopes that Bowser would be the one to ask him on a date. Both Mario and peach agree to this idea thinking that he just needs a little nudge nudge
Even going as far as to comment on Luigis affection towards the king
Mario: “ you and Luigi made really good partners in this race, besides when he’s with me, peach or Daisy, I’ve never seen him have so much fun”
Peach: “ Luigi speaks very highly of you. It almost reminds me of the time of when he used to talk about Prince Peasley, that way” (this would’ve been one of the nail in the coffin. If it wasn’t for the fact that Bowser was unaware of Luigis crush on The bean Prince)
 This just leads everyone to be frustrated because all of the hints and Luigi’s moves are not working the way that they want it to. It wasn’t until Daisy mentioned that Bowser is one of the most stubborn people that they know and “if he has his mind set on some thing a.k.a. not letting his feelings affect him and Luigi’s friendship which he seems to value a lot then he’s probably going to fight tooth and nail to keep it that way”
Mario, peach and Luigi: ooooooh *face slap*
 this is in fact 100% true each and every single flirt or comment left Bowser spiraling finding himself laying awake at night thinking about all the wat ifs and the maybes only for him to remember that he had the same thoughts and hopes with peach only for them to shoot him right back at his face with the devastation
Also, give me Bowser trying to separate himself. his feelings for lu is getting so out of hand that he’s starting to imagine that the plumber is flirting with him! what delusion!!! (Smh)
Finally, with help from his best friend, Daisy Luigi, planned on to finally ask Bowser to go out with him romantically
Now, I don’t know about you, but that seems like a good place to insert a happy ending….
Ooooor
 I’m just saying! I’m just saying. maybe Bowser does try dating.…. Just other people aka someone that’s not Luigi
Luigi, finding this out is absolutely heartbroken (my poor boy what have I done?) thinking that maybe he waited too long that maybe him and his friends were wrong and that it was just him getting his hopes up because as we all remember, weege is familiar with rejection to
It isn’t until his dear friend Daisy, ever the hothead goes up to Bowser yelling at him for leading her bestie on and going on a date with some scamp
 Bowser is absolutely flabbergasted, but also over the moon yet also petrified, because he potentially ruined yet another possible happily ever after. Thankfully, Daisy knows what to do to fix this.
While all this is happening, Luigi unaware of his besties wereabouts is in his room, reading a bunch of sad romance novels that don’t have any happy endings. It isn’t until Luigi stands up to go get himself a snack that Luigi receives a text message from Bowser’s asking if they can meet up.
Luigi internally is flipping out because on one hand, he would love to see his Bowser, but on the other hand, he knows for a fact that Bowser his friend would want to talk about his date, and Luigi doesn’t know if he can handle that right now
But this is a Weege we’re talking about. He loves to be there for his friends and family, even if it would hurt him, so he reluctantly agreed.
Let’s say, Bowser invites Luigi to practice racing with him in where you can immediately tell that there is an awkward tension in the air. Bowser is not to surprised by this, but Luigi is because as far as he knows, Bowser doesn’t know that he has feelings for him. (good Lord Daisy you better hope that Luigi doesn’t get upset at you for outing his emotions.)
They go on a race or two before taking a little break and getting back into the swing of their friendship, when Luigi decides that he would rather rip the bandage off, then painstakingly wait for Bowser’s to open up
Luigi tries his best, not to let his excitement show when Bowser says that him, and his date both agreed that a second one will not be happening. Even so, after hearing those words, lu very quickly made up his mind it might not be what him and Daisy planned, but if he waits any longer then Bowser’s next date might be the one to get to call him their’s a Luigi would rather fail from trying rather than not trying at all
Because the pain of never knowing what could’ve been hurt so much more than Bowser’s potential rejection
“ if you don’t mind, can I recommend someone for you to try a date with?”
“Oh?”
“Ya… you wouldn’t so happen to be interested in a little green plumber would you”?
 Bowser’s takes a moment to realize what just happened and it probably would’ve taken him longer if it wasn’t for the fact that Luigi started repeatedly saying sorry backpedaling try to fix what was starting to feel like a mistake (what can I say I’m a sucker for an anxious Angsty mess)
Bowser, surprisingly soft-spoken says yes, causing Luigi to look up at him. Shock is in his eyes before his smile meet them.
“Cool” Luigi would say as he tries to keep his smile on the down low but he can’t help it especially if Bowser‘s tail decides to thump besides him

Don't know if this was discussed before but here's a bowuigi idea.
Combining two beloved tropes of this ship :
Luigi disguised as Peach
Magical binding/marriage contract
And adding one of my personal favorites : mind control.
Taking advantage of Mario being away in another kingdom, Bowser captured "Peach" (who's wearing a mask/veil/whatever fools him long enough) and, having enough of being denied and thwarted before he can seduce Peach properly (which wouldn't work anyway, but Bowser ain't no quitter and has too much optimism), decides to "speed up things" by having Kamek hypnotise the princess into saying "yes" at the altar and sign a magical wedding contract so she will stay with him. Kamek's magic will ensure the princess believes she's madly in love with Bowser until the real feelings appear (as we mentioned before, Bowser is incredibly optimistic)
But.
Three unexpected things happen.
One : Bowser finally reveals his new bride's face to kiss her...what, is that Mario's brother ??
Two : the contract planned for the "bride" to be confined to the "husband" 's home for as long as the husband wished. By some convoluted loophole, it turns out Luigi is the one considered as the "husband" by the contract, and thus calls the shot on who stays where.
Three: Kamek can't dispel the love spell/hypnosis. No one can figure out why.
...And of course Bowser had to implement a clause in the contract so neither spouse can harm the other.

The One To Blame
A one shot based off this discussion, so I hold @a-la-orilla-del-rio and @istadris responsible.
UPDATE: It has expanded past being a one shot and is now available on A03, (or you can continue reading it here on Tumblr): Part 2 Part 3
______ Luigi hid amongst the jagged stone and brutish architecture of Bowser's castle, thankful for the large collection of self-aggrandizing statues that provided the perfect cover, creating long dark shadows and small cramped corners he could hide in. At the same time, the decor pricked at old memories that he struggled to push aside: bound and frightened, disoriented and confused, dragged by aching wrists to where he and Bowser first met face to face. Luigi would’ve been happy to stay a thousand miles away from The Darklands for the rest of his life, but he couldn't allow his brother to embark on this rescue mission all by himself. Even if Luigi knew for certain that Mario didn't need his help, he wished to do everything in his power to see to Princess Peach's safe return. She had put her life on the line to save him once before, it was only right to do the same for her.
Luigi's head began to ache from unreleased adrenaline as he crept along the edges of the throne room, slowly venturing near enough to hear the group of voices gathered around Bowser. The small plumber tentatively peeked out from obsidian pedestal of one of the statues, and observed the unfolding scene. The King of The Koopas stood at the base of his towering throne of masonry and wrought iron, Kamek at one side, and on his other side Princess Peach, locked in an enormous gilded cage of rose gold, filled with plush pink furniture. She was safe. Unhappy, of course, but unharmed. Luigi allowed himself a quiet sigh of relief.
Bowser was commiserating with a squadron of paratroopers, the most highly decorated of them fluttering at the forefront, eye-to-eye with the king.
"The Prison Ship was forced to make an emergency landing near The Valley Fortress,” the soldier explained with a salute. “Word got back that Mario has disappeared, but he couldn’t have gone far! We'll recapture him soon enough."
Hearing this, Luigi couldn't help but smile. The Prison Ship was where he and Mario were forced to split up. It was where Luigi had no choice but to run for the sake of his own survival and leave his big brother behind. Mario did his best to ease Luigi's fears, swearing his own safety and promising that he'd figure out a plan. It appeared Mario was true to his word, and now Bowser's forces were running themselves ragged trying to track him down. It was as good a spur-of-the-moment plan as any: Mario would hold the attention of The Dark Lands while he– Luigi – freed Princess Peach. They’d escape the castle, regroup with Mario, and find their way back to The Mushroom Kingdom. Simple. Easy. No problem.
The paratrooper proved himself worthy of his position as he remained firm in his saluting position, not even flinching as Bowser began to shout.
"Don't recapture him! Sparing him at all was a mistake! Give the order to kill on sight!" "No!" The harsh voice of Princess Peach, normally so calm and gentle, was startling to hear as she slammed her fists against the cage door. The sincerity in her upset appeared to flip a switch in Bowser's manner, evoking something resembling sympathy. He dismissed his troops, and as they fluttered out of the room Bowser turned to his beloved, hands held out plaintively.
"Peaches! I know it's hard to accept, but this is what is best for us, I promise you!" "Us?!" Peach huffed, struggling to maintain her royal composure. "There is no us! Ever since we've met you have done nothing but try to destroy everything I care about!" "Exactly! we've been fighting each other for so long when we should have been fighting for each other! You didn't even have time to recognize my good qualities, just like it took me so long to finally recognize yours..." He looked almost pitiable, big-eyed and pleading as he kneeled down and held his hands over his heart. "But you'll see! I'll prove to you how much of a match we are. You'll forget those silly, fleeting feelings you had for Mario-" "No! I… There are no feelings, Bowser!" Luigi couldn't help but feel Peach's voice lacked conviction, but he hoped that the draconic tyrant would take her for her word as she continued... "We're friends. Just friends, don't you understand? And Mario doesn't love me either. The only reason he ever accompanied me was because he was worried about his brother."
A strange silence hung in the air. Luigi felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, and Peach placed her hands to her mouth in slow realization of the dangers of what she'd just said. Before she could make an effort to undo her mistake, Bowser broke the silence.
"His brother... Luigi," he muttered in a voice thick with revulsion. "So, he's the one Mario told you he was after? And if the gossip that floats between your palace guards is worth believing, Luigi is also the one who first discovered the warp pipe that led to our world."
"Bowser, please don't." Peach begged, "he's my friend too." "Why!?" Luigi couldn't help but cover his ears as Bowser's voice shook the throne room. Smoke poured from his nostrils, his chest heaving with rage. "He didn't train with you! He didn't travel alongside you! He didn't go to the ends of the earth to win you over! All he ever did was jump in at the last second to save Mario!" That final sentence triggered a fresh wave of anger. His eyes flashed red, clawed hands curling in front of him like he was trying to wring an invisible throat. "Mario. I'd have already killed him if it wasn't for his stinkin' brother! I knew he was trouble since he first snuck into my territory... speaking to me like I was an idiot! Telling lies!... Telling me that I... I wasn't good enough for you!" And just like that, his fearsome roars tapered off into the whimpering tone of a spurned teenager. Luigi– backing a little further into the shadows cast by the stone– never felt so confused in his life. Hearing a creature of such fearful, unrestrained power act so hurt over a mere insult was bewildering in and of itself, but Luigi was certain he hadn’t said anything like that. He still couldn't quite remember how that conversation went... the memory was too terrifying to recall between the moment he admitted his brother's name and the moment he was thrown to the floor, but surely he didn’t say that!
Then, beyond the haze of confusion, a new realization dawned on him… Kamek had been awfully silent. Luigi glanced about the throne room, slowly realizing that he had been so focused on Peach and Bowser’s conversation that he didn’t see where Kamek had disappeared to. That was when an innate sense of danger pricked at his heart, and a familiar voice spoke from behind him: “Well well well! Speak of the devil…” On instinct Luigi ducked to the side, dodging a blast of magic that would have rendered him immobile. With equal swiftness, he followed it up with a kick to Kamek’s hand that sent his wand flying across the room. Luigi would’ve congratulated himself for his quick reflexes, had the heavy thud of fast-approaching footsteps not robbed him of all sense of victory.
The struggle was brief. A clawed hand came down, narrowly dodged. Luigi flinched and stumbled as bits of rubble from the damaged statue pelted his face, and that moment of half-blindness was all that Bowser needed. Next thing Luigi knew, a familiar, scaly palm clamped down around his torso and lifted him into the air, squeezing so tight he couldn’t even take a breath.
 “Kamek!” Bowser’s voice called. “Yes, sire?” The wizard asked meekly, fixing his glasses and rubbing his sore hand while crossing the room to recollect his wand. “Keep an eye on my bride to be. I have a score to settle” Luigi felt his body jolted about like a ragdoll with every step Bowser took toward the doors leading out of the room. The plumber struggled, kicking his feet and twisting his body, trying to wrench himself free until Bowser’s grip tightened further, and Luigi’s inability to breathe turned into a sharp pain that made him fear being snapped in half. He went passive then, falling limp in hopes of buying himself some time. Head bowed, he stared hopelessly at Princess Peach as the distance between them grew wider. He mouthed an attempt at an apology. The Princess stretched a hand through the bars, as though if she strained against her cage hard enough she could break through and come to his aid. “Don’t hurt him! Please!” she begged. “We’re both royals, aren’t we? Let’s negotiate! Bowser!”
Her words went unheeded. She only had time to call Bowser’s name once more before her voice was cut off by the heavy doors slamming shut, leaving Bowser alone with his new scapegoat clasped tightly in the palm of his hand.

Can I request a Donkey Kong x Socially anxious human(just reader who came with Mario and Luigi……your choice) Female! Reader? When I say “socially anxious”, I mean as in doesn’t talk alot and often gets nervous around others yet is still pretty stand-offish and seems intimidating despite the small size(but is actually not……just anxiety) but also has difficulty opening up. I also thought it would be a love at first sight thing(like Mario and Peach in the movie) as well as DK being all protective and maybe he gets jealous at one point…..
It can be a whole imagine, headcanon, multi-part story……..imma leave that up to you.😉
Donkey Kong x Socially anxious reader

I’m gonna make you Mario and Luigis younger sister I hope thats okay!!
You and Dk had kind of a rocky start when you first met.
He was just so…out there.
And you were not.
So there were definitely a lot of walls to break before you guys even developed a friendship.
You met at the arena when mario was going to fight in order to win an alliance with the Kong army.
You were sitting up on the balcony with Cranky Kong and peach.
Dk hadn’t even noticed you at first.
He was too busy trying to gain his dad’s attention while showing off his muscle.
Then his eyes shifted in your direction.
And when he saw you he was just struck by your beauty.
“Hey…Hey whats your name?”
You looked around to see who he could be talking to before it hit you like a ton of bricks that he was talking to you.
“I’m (Y/n.)” You responded quietly.
He smiled at you and winked before turning his attention back to his brother.
He was here to fight after all.
After that event it kind of felt like Dk followed you everywhere.
And you didn’t mind, you were just wondering why he had chosen you.
“I’m sorry but is there a reason you’re following me?” You questioned while standing on the porch of the hut
“You’re just really pretty.” He said without hesitation
Did he even know what he was saying?!
Had he by any chance mistaken you for someone else? Never has anyone outside of your family called you pretty before.
In fact, most people considered you intimidating.
You just chose not to respond to his complement because you honestly didn’t know what to say, but that didn’t seem to stop him from keeping his mouth closed.
You didn’t even talk to him much, he did all the talking and you sat back to listen to him.
I mean everyone needed a friend who could listen to them right?
During the events of helping Peach take down Bowser, Dk stayed right by your side.
Seriously he never left once, he was always there.
It was almost like he was a lost puppy.
Mario picked up on what this “smash monkey” was trying to do and he really wasn’t a fan of it.
And the fact you seemed perfectly fine with it bothered him even more.
So whenever Mario would try to separate the two of you and keep you close to him, Dk just wouldn’t have it.
He would snatch you back from your brother and keep you next to him, where you belonged.
You really didn’t like it when they fought over you, but you understood Dk was probably just happy to have a human friend so you didn’t mind.
It was a completely different story from his perspective.
He just had a really really big crush on you.
He just didn’t understand how could a girl as beautiful as you be related to someone as annoying as Mario.
Even though you didn’t talk much, he still loved being around you.
But sometimes it did worry him a bit.
Did you secretly hate him? Were you in love with someone else? All these thoughts ran through his head so finally he decided to ask you about it.
So when you and Dk got swallowed by the giant eel after the big battle at rainbow road, he figured this would be the time to ask.
“Do you hate me?” He asked, breaking the silence.
You looked up at him and raised a brow.
“No.” You responded before looking back down at your feet.
Then why do you never talk to me? Did I do something to upset you?”
You sighed and shook your head.
“No you didn’t…It’s an issue on my part.”
His face contorted from one of worry to one of confusion, He didn’t understand what you mean’t.
“I’m just not good with other people. It’s not that I don’t like you, i’m just nervous around everyone.”
He didn’t understand how you felt, but he didn’t need to understand to help you.
He grabbed your hands in his very large ones and squeezed them reassuringly.
“You never have to be nervous around me.”
You blushed as he stared at you with those big eyes you just couldn’t bring yourself to turn away from.
You know…since we might die in here, I’ve got something I wanna tell you.”
You look at him with a curious expression, wondering what he’s going to say.
“I really like you.” He confesses.
“Huh-?”
You really were not expecting that.
You didn’t know what to expect from him but it definitely was not a love confession.
“I just think you’re really pretty and nice and cool and I just really like you.” He continued
Your blush only grew darker and darker as he continued with his confession to you.
“It’s okay if you don’t feel the same way, I get it.”
You sat in your own thoughts for a second, contemplating on what you should say next.
You liked him too but you have never been a romantic person so you really didn’t know what to say right now.
He anxiously looked at you, obviously waiting on your response
You couldn’t keep him waiting forever so it was now or never.
“I like you too but I- I’m kind of scared of getting in a relationship.”
“Scared?”
“Yes I’m scared. It’s a lot of commitment, trust, and it just sounds so scary to be in love with someone.”
He wasn’t sure on how to comfort you, this was obviously a personal issue that he stumbled into by accident.
“Whatever you decide I hope you know I’ll always protect you.”
You look up at him with glossy eyes and nod, wiping away any tears that had stained your cheeks.
“Thank you, but how about we continue this conversation when we get out of here.” You said remembering that you were in an eels stomach.
After escaping the eels stomach on a barrel from Dk’s kart, you two made your way to go crash Bowsers wedding.
Fighting your way through the koopas like badass couples do(you’re not a couple yet but you act like one)
You and Dk came in as the fight was still at its peak, so you helped out by fighting some koopa troopers who just so happened to be in the way.
The fight at the Mushroom kingdom looked like it was about over, You and Mario found Luigi and had your moment as you were reunited, the same went for Dk and his dad.
Everything was fine until Bowser released that giant bullet onto Peaches castle.
Mario stepped in and led it away into one of the pipes which seemed like a smart plan at first, but it ended sucking all of you in with it.
You all landed in Brooklyn and Dk made sure to keep you in the backlines.
The two of you had been through so much together, he didn’t wanna risk loosing you now.
But when Dk has his little brawl with Bowser it wasn’t looking too good for him.
Bowser had him up in a chokehold and was getting ready to punch the life out of him.
You needed to help but you didn’t have anything on you so you grabbed a brick from one of the buildings that had been destroyed and threw it at bowsers head.
He dropped Dk and slowly turned his head towards you.
He huffed and angrily ran in your direction but before he could get to you Dk pushed him out of the way.
“(Y/n) go get the star!” Dk yelled and nodded over to the star.
You understood and ran as fast as you could over towards the star but sadly Dk wasn’t able to hold Bowser off forever and Bowser came after you once again.
He caught up to you and grabbed you by the collar, throwing you back with intense strength.
Dk caught you in his strong arms and didn’t let you go.
He wouldn’t let you go. He couldn’t let that crazy turtle freak hurt you again.
“You’re okay I got you.” He comforted as he stroked your hair with his finger.
You clung onto his big fuzzy arm, shaking violently as a few tears escaped your eyes from the fear you just felt.
The rest of the fight you and Dk sat back to let Mario handle it since you had done all you could do by that point.
The conclusion to the battle was sweet, Bowser was defeated and everyone was happy.
You decided that you didn’t want to stay in Brooklyn anymore, Instead you wanted to go back to the Jungle Kingdom with Dk.
Your brothers chose to stay in the Mushroom Kingdom meaning they were always close, which you were happy about.
Dk and you got together(obviously) and ended up having a pretty successful relationship.
Sure it took a lot of effort to get to where you are now, but you’re so happy you put forth that effort.
Dk is pretty happy you got together because he was really wondering if that crush would ever go away.
A/n: Hope you enjoy!!❤️❤️

Chapter: 1 - A Night Bring Out
thus the sun has continued to set from the horizon as four is calmly watching the view afar, the cold breeze blew through his hair sitting outside.
"SMG4?" Mario called his bestfriend, seeing him sitting on a chair admiring the view. Mario snuck behind him, distracted "still having those gay thoughts?" He chuckled, making four bounce from his chair with a light scare from the fat italian.
"N-No I'm not!" He brushed off the dirt from his blue colored suit. Man does he love how his formal attire looked, where he can move freely and relaxed.
"You sureee????" "Yes I am." He looked away from Mario with a light pink faded blush surrounding his face. "Have you uhh found a partner?" SMG4 looked at Mario.
"I'm with bob, he said his girlfriend can't attend" "what about the others?" "Hmmmmmm" Mario did his best to remember the pairings from his team.
"Meggy is in pairs with Tari, Saiko is with Kaizo since they're both hosting a side played oncore songs, Boopkins is- he's with his waifu bed, Chris with Swag, Melony is just- sleeping-" figures. Melony is always too tired whenever she's awake, but for some reason- it feels like he won't be getting in partners with anyone else...
"Andd uhhh for Luigi- luigi is-" SMG4 shot a glance of the familiar green colored signature and ran. "Hey! SMG4?" Mario saw Four rush out of there and got back from the room to talk to luigi.
"Hey! Luigi..." "wah? SMG4? What is it?" "Do you want to be partners with me for prom?" Luigi eye-d to another side and furrowed his eyes giving him a smile. "Oh- uh- sorry SMG4 I'm already left partners with someone..."
"Oh come on! I bet I can still be as good as that partner this is bullsh-t!" SMG4 cursed out loud, hearing something approach to him was a giant... lizard-?
"Ahe- ahem!" SMG4 gulped looking upwards to reveal, it was bowser out of all people. He was tossed by a massive force by bowser across the room, with no one to notice.
"Ow..." his back couldn't move after cracking a wall. "SMG4! Are you okay?!" The voice sounded nothing like Mario, a man reached out a hand to help him get up.
"Yes I'm..." He paused, looking up to see the person. SMG3... his former ex rival... a 'friend'... is there to attend the prom as well.
He stared at his face for a moment, and boy how he felt something inside him flutter and beat. "I'm alright..." He finally gave him a reply, getting back up from the floor acting like nothing happened.
"You got yourself tossed in that room dude- you sure you're alright?" SMG4 felt distracted by looking at his 'friend' from top to bottom.
He had his hair up in a bun, (honestly- when did he missed out the part he had long hair?) His looks are still the same but it came out more handsome than the last time he saw him without a hat on, his dark purple silk suit that the light reflects on the shades, he was wearing a different gloves that has the usual roman numeral but with white color text with black gloves filled.
His magenta necktie, his long black pants, shining clean black shoes that exposed from his view. Since WHEN did SMG3 became this more of a neat character to get so- well dressed...?
Or its just four not knowing how fashion works-
"Yeah I'm hurt a little bit but I'll be fine-" he gave him a nervous chuckle, not wanting three to feel worried of him. SMG3 wanted to speak about this but he didn't find the urge to do so. Now that his soft spot might reveal a bit too much.
"You got invited too huh?" SMG3 nodded. "I uhh- couldn't find a decent partner to pair up with... not even when I enjoy less party talks yet I still come here..." He looked at the other of the members who are currently talking with the other people.
"You haven't- found a pair yet?" SMG4 asked again, he wondered why Three even came here despite knowing that he hates occassional events except for evil villain anniversaries or such as getting paid.
But for just this time, he attended anyway. "No I haven't... thats why I'm asking several of the people here- but they all already found one..." SMG3 hugged his stomach, the felt of discomfort attempting on asking for someone to be his partner and didn't work out too well when you're bad at talking in public.
More as of being socially awkward to people that gave out his anxiety... but to SMG4 however, he felt safe to be around with yet he wasnt even sure why.
His ex rival just felt too safe to be with, he didnt have complains for that. It felt nice...
Because he'd never felt needed by any other people from his life...
SMG4 is unsure at this state he's on with, he struggled and hesitated to put out the words of apologizing. He wasn't used to this type of sensitive talk.
"I also haven't found mine yet-" he started to stare at those red crimson eyes... "do you... want to be partners with me instead?" Out of the ordinary, SMG3's face lit up after hearing SMG4 say that.
Did he just hear this right. Is it actually true that Four is asking him out to be his... his... HIS... he turned red second by second.
"I-I uhh... Yeah sure whatever- just try not to mess things up- you baka..." the blue held out his hand for three to grab on, as four smiled still with three on being a tsundere. It never gets old.
Three accepted, embracing his left hand with four colliding in. With now both fingers interlocked, that was purposely done by SMG4.
"Dude- are you TRYING to make things look even more gayer?" SMG3 looked down at both of the hands then back to the man himself.
"Just- incase..." SMG4 pouted, he couldn't come up with a reason. He did this on purpose and he'd been making it a bit more awkward with this between just him and three.
The chattering went low as the host made his way out of the door and welcomed everyone.
"Welcome to the square plaza everyone! We are so excited to gather you all for our occasional prom! Now go out there and get yourself started!"
He offered to everyone by stepping aside from the open door, being a gentleman to let everyone inside.
"Well... here it goes..." SMG4 walked forward as Three followed a few steps near, little did four know is that Three kept glancing at their interlocked hands together thinking the forms of something special...
Something... something that also made SMG4 feel the same but more tensed...
SMG4 couldn't process much of the things that are currently happening to him right now. Why has this have to go very wrong yet right at the same time? Why did he have to come even tho he didn't want to?
He'd started to overthink with all of his actions that he had made. In regret...
(Why did I even came here... I should've stayed at the castle...) He clinched the hand even tighter, holding Three's.
But it had made him thought, for any other reasons it somehow made him feel glad that he was there.
"Good evening everyone! We are all gathered here for a special event- aka prom." The other host guestured their hand with the obvious sign.
"The dance will begin at 7pm, just to say you can go talk to any other people here or have some snacks while everyone enjoys their stay!" The microphone turns off, entering a soothing audio played in the background.
-A Night To Remember by beabadoobee & Laufey-
The man in purple looked at the sparkling chandelier placed right on top of the ceiling the lights that glimmered through the glass.
Swore I'd seen you before
Within the atmosphere flowing through the colors of pink, red, and purple. Mixtures of blue, the colors fading through the room.
Watched you walk through the door
The beam of light, shining across Four's face with an escape of the light. Reflecting through his blue colored eyes that took notice of the red ones.
Somethin' in your eye
Reminded me of somebody I used to know
Damn... SMG4 looked glorious... he hated that...
Three's eyes happen to gaze upon to Four's with the room surrounded by the soft sounds, they both met each others eyes.
You touched my back
I took your hand
Somethin' from your touch felt shockingly familiar
He didn't know what that feeling was, it just felt right for him to do. If this would only be only focused to him, where would his thoughts go?
And I swore I'd seen you before
Oh, I swore I'd seen you before...
They both felt so lost, but being there together with him?
Underneath the sheets
You enchanted me
And whispered sweet nothings in my ear
It felt romantic...
I shivered beneath you
All wrapped up in embers
It was a night... to remem-
"Is it just me or are you both staring goo goo eyes at each other thats super gay-" The fat italian called them both out ruinimg their silence.
"SHUT UP YOU ASS" SMG3 looked at Mario annoyed, he who had ruined their moment. "We're not gay!" SMG4 cried out loud, with the crowd bringing their attention from his scream. He smiled to fill out the apology trying his best not to disrupt them.
SMG4 turned his head back to Mario and eyed Three. "It seemed like it-" he shrugged his shoulder, drinking an orange juice from the cup.
"Look you idiot- I came here to get over with the party. I'm not saying I'm a party pooper in this, I was only trying to..." he gave a pregnant pause after realizing that he had almost revealed his words to him.
"To- uh- not miss out on the occassions and stuff..." his eyes darted towards Mario after he shot up his eyes with Four.
He checked the time...
6:55 pm
Almost seven o-clock before the dance begins, and just being in there with him... it felt like time passes by too quickly by seconds...
"Oh! I think I should go now- Mario wishes you two gay boys goodluck!" He puts a thumbs up to the both of them and headed to Bob's direction.
The two looked at each other in disbelief, had they both been staring too long? Did the song dragged them away into this...?
How can this be?
SMG4 is unsure, he was too scared about this feeling. Little does he know is that Three also scattered with the same thing as well...

Beauty and the... Bowser?
Prologue
Once upon a time, in a kingdom of fire and brimstone... the Koopa Kingdom was faced with a terrible fate.
Bowser x Fem!Reader
A/N: I got so excited by this idea that I legit started planning it an hour ago, like fully going through Mario characters to cast. Anyways, I hope you enjoy!
Fic Masterlist + Prologue (here!) + Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 + Chapter 3 + Chapter 4 + Chapter 5 (coming soon!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, in a kingdom of fire and brimstone, music filled the air, for a ball was ongoing in the grand ballroom of the Koopa King's castle.
Despite the known temper and arrogance of the famed King Bowser, there was no denying that he hosted the most grand parties in all the known kingdoms. The elaborate decorations glimmered in the light of the torches, the chandeliers glowed with purple magic, and every guest was dressed in their most impressive outfits in hopes that they may win the King's favour, whether politically or otherwise.
This party was seemingly no different to any other, with the exception of the thunderous storm that raged on as the nobility were tucked safely inside the large ballroom, mingling and preparing for another dance as King Bowser made his entrance. His thundering footsteps garnered every guests' attention, each of them bowing their heads in slight fear and respect as he stood in the monstrously large doorway.
The scales and spikes of his large green shell shined as if they had been freshly polished, with the intimidating claws on his hands and feet in much the same condition. The King's scarlet red hair was combed back, slightly tucked behind the sharp horns on either side of his large head. As his mouth pulled back in a slight smirk, the guests shivered at the sight of his gleaming pointed teeth.
Nonetheless, each guest greeted the King Koopa with a gracious smile, following with a bow or a curtsey before swiftly moving aside to make room for His Majesty to get to his throne and to avoid being hit by his spikey tail that dragged along behind him.
As Bowser sat on his iron throne, his advisors Kammy and Kamek standing obediently at his side, he waved a hand at the orchestra of Boos as a gesture for them to cease their playing. As the song came to a close, the last of the conversations of the party goers quieted as they turned to face the seated King, hanging on to every shift of his body in interest of what he would say.
"Noble guests", Bowser began, his deep voice booming throughout the entire space, "tonight's event has turned out to be one of the most successful yet! It seems like my kingdom is outperforming the lot of you other royals in the crowd. HA!"
Although framed as a joke, Bowser's statement put each of the different kingdom's representatives on edge, as if waiting for the King to wage a war on them at this otherwise enjoyable party. Despite the tension, the crowd laughed politely to please the King, none of them wanting to challenge his temper whilst in the heart of his territory.
"With that in mind, dance. Drink! Enjoy yourselves here! Worry about your impression on me as you're leaving.", Bowser finished. With a flick of his hand, the orchestra began a new song. Each guest worried about the meaning behind the King's final sentence but found their dance partners and took to the floor nonetheless as a show of good will, each noble hoping to gain allyship with the tyrannical yet undeniable powerhouse that was the Koopa Kingdom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Partway through the third dance, there was a powerful knock on the heavy metal of the palace doors. The knock, however, was written off as just being the wind storm, and was therefore ignored by the Koopa king, his advisors, and the guests alike. To their surprise, however, and to the guests' fright, the solid iron doors swung open, revealing the figure of a seemingly weak and hunched over old woman.
The woman wore a soaking wet and tattered navy cloak with a rickety old cane held in her hand to support her unstable legs. The cloak's hood was pulled over her head hiding her face from the crowd now facing her completely, looking at her with disgust. She limped her way toward Bowser, his imposing figure beginning to rise from his throne to meet the elderly stranger who, in his eyes, had so rudely intruded on a party that was of a much higher class than the old woman could ever dream of being invited to.
King Bowser's startling height and judgemental leer did not deter the woman as she came to a full stop in front of him, her cane creaking as she leaned her weight onto it.
"I seemed to have lost my way in this horrible storm", the woman's weak and shaky voice spoke, "may you be so kind as to let me stay the night?"
Bowser scoffed in her face, his heavy breath blowing the woman's hair back slightly. "And what exactly would I get in return?" Bowser asked mockingly. At his question, the woman reached a hand into her cloak, retrieving a single daisy from the neighbouring Mushroom Kingdom. "I can only offer my gratitude and this daisy, Your Majesty.", the woman replied, meeting the King's fiery crimson eyes.
Bowser scoffed once. Twice. Then burst out into boisterous laughter that reverberated through each corner of the castle, the guests following his example and breaking out into mocking laughter as well.
"What a brave offer! How truly ridiculous!" Bowser said as he wiped the tears of laughter from his eyes. The King bent over, coming face to face with the woman. His eyes shifted to the daisy still held gently in her hand as if it were the greatest treasure she had known. 'How ridiculous. How could a mere flower ever compare to the heights of luxury I have every day?', King Bowser thought to himself. With a swift backhand, the Koopa smacked the precious flower from the woman's hand. The daisy tumbled to the floor, losing a petal from the fall. Bowser smirked, looking down his nose at the elderly woman, awaiting her reaction.
The woman looked at the flower laying pathetically on the floor, then moved her gaze back to the King's large head. Without uttering a word, the woman began to lift off of the floor, her dirty cloak and simple underdress transforming to a long, sky blue gown in a whirl of golden magic, a small silver tiara and a long glowing wand with a star on the end appearing on the woman's person. The woman's scraggly grey locks melted into platinum blonde hair, ending at her shoulders. Her once wrinkled face smoothed over into a much more youthful yet striking complexion, her tired ocean eyes taking on a much more dangerous gleam. The witch stopped rising once she was above the King's towering height, looking down on him with a rather stoic yet undeniably angry expression on her face.
The guests began running to the heavy door, tripping over each other and themselves to get away from the witch while King Bowser stayed in place, no fear present in his expression. Kammy and Kamek, though, knew much better than to challenge the witch before them. For she was Rosalina. Protector of all of cosmos. The King Koopa took a step back, aiming to charge at the witch looking down at him. "Your Majesty, DON'T-" Kammy tried to warn Bowser, but it came too late.
Bowser made a running start to where Rosalina floated in front and above him. The woman calmly flicked her wrist in his direction, sending the strong leader of the tyrannical Koopa Kingdom flying into the stone wall behind him. Bowser's head hit the wall, shaking the stone bricks violently and rendering the King unconcious for a moment.
Rosalina slowly descended and walked toward the King, who's eyes were only starting to focus back on the powerful woman in front of him. She stopped just short of where Bowser was leaned against the wall as Kamek slid in front of his King and placed his head to his hands on the floor in pleading, Kammy following just after him.
"Please don't kill him, O great protector Rosalina!" Kammy pleaded, keeping her head down but not moving from where she kneeled over in front of the Koopa King. The tension became unbearable as Rosalina stayed silent, only looking down at the King's faithful advisors before moving her gaze back to King Bowser himself, who was now conscious but too injured to move.
Rosalina then turned, slowly walking toward the forgotten daisy that still laid on the floor where it was unceremoniously smacked out of her hand, picking it up and walking back to where the King sat.
"As punishment for your arrogance, disrespect, and uncaring for the struggles of others, I leave you with this, King Bowser of the Koopa Kingdom;" Rosalina spoke in a firm voice, "if you do not learn to truly love another that is not yourself, and if they do not learn to love you back by the time the last petal falls from this daisy, your entire kingdom will be forgotten by everyone, leaving you to truly be absorbed in yourself and yourself only."
With that, the thunder and wind outside the castle picked up as Rosalina rose once again into the air, disappearing into a cloud of blue and gold magic. The storm died then, leaving the three occupants of the ballroom in silence.
Kammy and Kamek rose their heads, rushing over to King Bowser to treat his concussion. With a few whispered magic words from each of them, Bowser regained his thoughts and slowly stood to his full height.
Kamek cleared his throat. "Your Majesty, there must be something we can-" the Magikoopa began, only to be cut off by his King stomping over to a nearby table that held beverages and food and throwing it across the room in the direction of the Boo orchestra players. The ghosts quickly disappeared, rushing through the walls and windows to get away from the wrathful King who had begun smashing their string instruments.
Kammy knew better than to try and reason with the King while he was in this mood, and Kamek wasn't keen on trying to be optimistic again. Both of them watched in silence as Bowser finally tore a portrait of himself, coming down from his violent outburst.
Panting heavily, Bowser looked around the room at the destruction he had caused, then settling his burning gaze on his advisors. He stared at them for a moment as his breathing became slightly stable, before angrily stomping out of the ballroom and up toward the West Wing where his bedroom lay.
Finally left in silence, the two advisors remembered the daisy that had fallen to the ground once again after Rosalina disappeared. Kammy carefully picked the flower up as Kamek quickly retrieved a glass bell jar. As the two magikoopas placed the flower underneath the dome, three more petals fell. Kamek looked toward Kammy, the pair sharing a concerned glance before nodding.
'We can only extend this inevitable deadline for five years extra, Your Majesty. Please make them count.' Kammy thought as she and Kamek combined their powers, placing a spell upon the daisy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Word spread quickly throughout the Koopa Kingdom of the curse placed upon their King. In fear of being completely forgotten and abandoned by the outside world, the majority of citizens fled, leaving the kingdom barren and lonely.
Bowser stared out his tower window, furrowing his brow in badly concealed anger. Despite his best wishes, his eyes became slightly glassy with tears.
'What a fitting curse.' He thought bitterly. 'Who could ever learn to love a beast?'
A/N: And that's the prologue! Honestly I'm super proud of this so far, and I'm so excited to write the rest of this story! I hope all of you enjoy this!!!
I'm Plenty Warm
Summary: The Grand Prix's held in winter this time. Bowser doesn't fair well in the cold.
~
The cold seeped into every inch of Bowser’s being, settling deep into his bones. It took every ounce of his self control to keep his shivering to what was hopefully an invisible minimum. Why did the damn Grand Prixhave to be held in winter this year? There was simply no need. Yeah, the Xmas lights were pretty but not exactly the kind of thing one typically thought of for racing.
Of course Mario with his warm blood and fuzzy coat didn’t look the least bit bothered by the cold. Punching him for that would be nice but would get Bowser kicked. He was not going to let all the effort and suffering he’d already put into this damn thing go to waste just because he was annoyed at Mario.
Instead he huffed and looked towards the other racers mingling about, waiting for the call to push their karts onto the track. He shuffled his feet, trying to make it look like impatience instead of the desperate attempt to get some feeling back into his feet that it was. After the race though he was totally going to…
“You okay?”
Bowser almost flinched as he looked the green Mario brother who’d apparently come up to stand next to him. “What?”
“Are you okay?”
“Why are you asking?” It had to be a trap, right? He was looking for weakness.
Greenie shifted, breaking eye contact. “It’s cold and uh, from what I understand you’re cold blooded so the cold is even worse for you. So I figured I’d come over and ask how you were doing.”
As far as Bowser could tell he seemed sincere in his concern but that didn’t mean that he was. He’d learned the hard way early on that sometimes people liked to lie and take advantage of others, especially people in positions of power such as himself. No matter how hard he tried, he’d never gotten good at spotting when someone was trying such a thing and thus made it a rule to never fully trust anyone other than Kamek and the kids. So whatever Greenie was trying here, he wasn’t going to fall for.
“I’m fine.” He put a slight growl in his voice, making Greenie flinch a little. “I breath fire, remember? So I’m plenty warm.” He let out a small puff of it to prove his point. It provided only a small burst of warmth to his face and mouth though as it didn’t ignite anywhere inside him. Measly humans shouldn’t know that though.
“Oh, uh, I guess so, huh? Well, good luck.” Greenie gave him a thumbs up before turning and fleeing. What had he even been trying to get out of Bowser? He was so far down in the rankings, getting Bowser out somehow wouldn’t have helped him much. Maybe it was for Mario’s sake. … Yeah, probably. No way was he genuine.
Bowser shuffled his feet again. The damn race better start soon before he froze solid. Driving with numb hands and feet was going to suck but he’d managed up until now somehow even if just barely keeping himself in the running. All he had to do this race was come in place ahead of Mario and his final score would be higher than Mario’s. Winning the whole tournament – something only possible if he made first this race and the current leader scored low – would be ideal but beating Mario was what mattered most. He could do that at least, no matter how cold it got. He had this in the bag… basically.
~
A hand shook him, pulling him towards consciousness. He could’ve fought it and almost did but a voice accompanied it. The words he didn’t understand, they were in a different language, the voice though, he did. Mario’s brother… Luigi was his name, wasn’t it? Odd that it would come back to him now but such was often the way with remembering forgotten words.
He sounded worried. Why would he sound worried about Bower taking a nap when he was so tired he clearly needed the sleep? Heck why would he sound worried about Bowser at all?
It was odd enough to spur Bowser into clawing the rest of the way awake himself. His eyes fluttered open to see Luigi looking down at him, his frantic expression matching his worried exactly.
“Oh, thank goodness you’re not dead,” he said. “I’d thought for a moment I’d let you go too easy and…” He let out a sigh, cutting himself off.
“What happened? And why can’t I feel anything.” Everywhere he wasn’t numb he was so cold he couldn’t feel anything else.
“You crashed into a snow bank. It shouldn’t have hurt you much but you didn’t get up and it collapsed back onto you and you still didn’t move. And then I remembered what I’d worried about earlier before the race and I thought for a second you were freezing to death so I rushed over to…”
“I am,” Bowser interrupted his worried ramblings.
“Huh?”
“Freezing to death.” Prior Grand Prixs had had single tracks in cold places, all of which had sucked and been hard to get through but he was tough and stubborn. Every single race being cold though and there being no real warmth in between them, it compounded into a serious problem for anyone cold blooded. It’s why he was the only one in the race who was. He’d thought he could handle it long enough to get through it but seems Kamek had been right again and he couldn’t. And now not only had he humiliated himself but was going to die for it. Already sleepiness pulled at him again, threatening to pull him under against his will.
“Ah, mamma mia!” Luigi mumbled something else in Italian before standing and shaking himself off. “Okay, okay. I’ll… hook you to the back of my car and pull you out and get you somewhere warm and then…”
“Why? Wouldn’t it be easier to let me die?”
Luigi, already moving back towards his car, gasped but didn’t pause. “That would be wrong.”
“I don’t want to be in your debt.” He’d almost rather die than let someone save him just so they could extract something from him. Only almost though which is why he didn’t try to fight when Luigi returned to him with a chain. It had a hook on the end for towing.
Luigi didn’t respond as he hooked the chain to the inside of Bowser’s shell. His exact expression was still hard to read but he looked more determined than scared now. A new look for him, normally he was a scaredy-cat. Seems he had a backbone after all.
“Can you at least try to take me somewhere where no one will see?” Probably a futile ask but he’d never live it down if Mario saw him almost frozen to death, curled up in his shell as it was dragged behind Luigi’s car.
“I suppose I could. We’ll have to go off road a bit but there’s a cabin not far from here. You could start a fire in the fireplace to warm yourself until you’re no longer immediately in danger. I’ll have to come back for your car but I would’ve anyway.”
Which would put Bowser even further into his debt. Not a good scenario but his fate was already sealed on that and it was better than allowing everyone else to see him like this. So… “Thanks,” he said before pulling as much of himself into his shell as he could. He was still too stiff and frozen to get all the way into it but it should still make getting dragged along by the chain a bit easier to bear.
Perhaps if he were lucky Luigi was sincere in his implied motivation being nothing more than being a good guy. Probably not but it sure would be nice if such was the case.
Something scary about drawing fan comics is when you're faced with a pose, or a background, or a color scheme that is needed to move the plot forward but you *know* is beyond your skill.
Or even just a character that's hard to draw (looking at you, early versions of bowser lol).
You know it's not turning out and it's not going to be perfect. And it won't be perfect for a while as you figure things out slowly, and the fear everyone else can see you struggled with that one panel, or that one page. Just feeling like everyone can *tell* this is where you faultered and the scope of your story was bigger than what you could do but you pushed forward anyway.
And then I read other artists comics and I wonder if they are having the same struggles. And they *must*, I can't be alone in this, but I don't see those struggles in their work. So surely If I'm reading their comic and I can't see where they faltered or struggled or feel that 'this is the worst page I've ever drawn' then no one else can see it in mine, and we truly are our own worst critic. We judge our own work on a scale we wouldn't judge others by.
You got to remind yourself the viewer most likely won't see those mistakes. And if they do they are already reading the next panel and moving on. They didn't stop to analyze and judge that one mistake that you agonized over yet couldn't properly resolve.
Sometimes when I'm struggling, when a panel is just...not how I want and I realize I've spent so much time trying to fix small things no one will give a shit about I hear that meme in my head, the one that says "fuck it, we'll do it live!" And I move on. It's just gunna be like that. I gotta keep the momentum going. I can't be hung up on one thing.
And the momentum is crucial with comics. You gotta keep moving. Every panel or page you finish helps the next one be better, because soon things you once struggled with are second nature. You gotta use the tools in your toolbox. References are not cheating and every person who ever said that to an artist held that person back from improving. You're never going to fully know how to draw that angle if you don't *look at it*. It wont become second nature to draw if you just hope you can guess right through sheer force of will.
And coloring is fucking hard. It's tedious. Its boring but god when you finally get it right it's so rewarding. When you learn a new thing that makes your work pop.
And you gotta just accept your art will not look the same from page one to page 50 if you're learning as you go. You got to stop being embarrassed. Because it shows you were *learning*. It shows you improved and yes the early pages wont look as good but look!! Look at what you can draw now. It's a visual representation of every new skill, every new technique you learned on the way and we gotta stop cringing at our old work and instead thank it for getting us to where we are now.
Luigi is pretending to be Peach when he gets kidnapped but Bowser knew instantly.
It was one of his kids who did the kidnapping this time. To show their papa how strong and brave they are so something.
Bowser doesnt even need to look Luigi in the eyes to know this isnt Peach. She never shows such fear when being kidnapped. He can easily see whoever this is fidgeting and shakin in their boots (or heels) but hes a good father. And the look on his kids face. How could he ruin this. So he plays along.
A booming laugh shakes Luigi to his core as he slowly looks up to meet Bowsers gaze. He feels like those fiery red eyes are looking into his soul. Suddenly the mask on his face feel straggling. Then Bowsers gaze finally leaves him and goes to the Koopaling that captured him and softens. “Fantastic work! Now tell me who helped you in such a feat!” The child bounced up and down on the spot “No one Papa! I did it all by myself!” Luigi had never seen Bowser this way before. Sure he knew he had kids but he never imagined him actually being a good father. The way Bowsers fave shifted into the facade of shock. “Surely not just you! No no someone must have helped you. Why something of this caliber? You must have taken the whole army!” At that the child giggled as Bowser made a show of looking around. “No papa it was just me! No help at all!!… well grandad did show me a map to the mushroom kingdom.” The child was nervously fiddling with claws at the mention of help. Bowser now put on a display of wonder. “Really? Thats all the help you got?” Then he boomed “Wonderful my child! Fantastic work!” His child giggling as Bowser lifted them up into the air a few times, Bowser laughing along with them.
Completely stunned by this, Luigi just stood there unsure of what to do. Did Bowser forget he was here? Who knew the man or well koopa had such a soft side, he was wonderful with his kid. Maybe he could escape while they both are distracted. He felt bad for the lil one seeing how happy they had been about capturing him. Which is why Luigi was so easy to capture in the first place, having a soft spot for kids himself. But he couldnt let Bowser figure him out. Tho the moment he shifted to move Bowser instantly looked at him, causing him to tense up. His Anxiety getting the better of him and he just gave a sheepish awkward wave. Hes so going to die here. The look Bowser was giving him, if looks could kill. Yup this is it. The moment hes found out hes done for. Bowser turned back to his child and in a more serious tone “Now i have some things i need to discuss with the Princess.” The way he said it made the hair in Luigis neck stand up. Peach had said Bowser never hurt her but boy was he terrifying. “So why dont you l” but before he could finish what he was saying the child interrupted him with a whine “but daadd i wanna play with the Princess!” Giving him father the best puppy dog eyes he could muster. Which in Luigis opinion was pretty darn good. He could clearly see Bowsers internal struggle. Something else won out though when Bowser glanced back in Luigis direction. “Im sorry but this is rather important. Why dont you head down to the kitchens and pick tonights dinner.” At this the child quickly jumped up “Can I pick dessert too!!” Bowser chuckled at his childs excitement and nodded “yes yes dessert too.” And just like that the kid was off. Rushing past Luigi without even glancing at him.
When the door closed instantly the mood shifted into something heavy. Every part of Luigis being told him to run. Slowly he turned back to look at Bowser. All softness gone from his face. His eyes narrowed as to get a better look at this “Princess” and then he stood. “So Princess” he began has he walked from his throne towards Luigi. “How are you doing today?” Though the words themselves had been pleasant they had been spoken with such sarcasm that Luigi knew he knew. Frozen in fear as his mind raced on what to do. He should say something. But how. What to say to not get burnt to a crisp. “I asked you a question Princess” Bowser was now right in front of Luigi, who looked up with horror at the anger on Bowser face. “Im waiting” well its now or never. Taking in a deep breath and mustering up all the courage he had “Im” was all he got out before a punch right in the gut cut him off and lifting him off the floor slightly. He gasped as all the air was knocked out of him. Bowser then let him crumple to the floor. Doubled over Luigi clutched his stomach.
Bowser demanded “Get up.” But when Luigi made no move to stand Bowser growled out “Get… Up” slowly Luigi placed one arm out and pushed himself up. He staggered for a moment but once he got his balance he slowly looked up to Bowsers face. All color draining as his eyes met with the Koopas. Pure rage is all Luigi could find. “Im still waiting on you to answer my question.” Bowsers features smoothed out as Luigi knew this was a trap. He knew he was already stuck in it. He needed to figure a way out of this that didnt end in him dying. “B-Bow” was all he got out before his entire middle wasn yanked up. Arms pinned to his sides as Bowsers grip held him firmly. Then the pressure increased. Luigi gasping at the pain from his earlier blow. Bowsers voice dripped with venom as he spoke “Did you really think you could fool me? With this pathetic displace?” He gestured to Luigis entire form. “Do you take me for a fool?” He spat. Luigi quickly shaking his head as he wriggled in Bowsers grasp. Bowser who at the display only tightened his grip a bit more. Luigi letting out a pathetic squeak as air became hard to get. At the sound Bowser scoffed “lets see who you really are.” Unable to move at all Bowser ruffly ripped off Luigis mask, scratching his cheek deeply as he did so. Then everything froze. Luigi had his eyes screwed shut waiting for the final blow to come. Bowsers gripped loosed as he just stared. This caused Luigi to slowly peak his eyes open. The moment he looks at the kings face he saw the shock. Then it transformed into anger. Instantly Bowser grip came back in full force as he yelled “YOU!!!” Luigi winced not just from the yelling but at the pain in his abdomen. Hes not sure his body can handle much more of this. He had do something and quickly if he didnt wanna be crushed to death. “B-b-bowser.” He stammered out, no longer sure if it was his nerves or the pain causing it this time. Of course speaking just caused Bowser to tighten his grip. Oh he cant handle any more of this. “P-please I-I” he started to beg but he was cut off as Bowser once again yelled “HOW DARE YOU AND YOUR BROTHER TRY TO FOOL ME!” Raging. “I- I ca-cant please” Luigi struggling but his vision is started to go black. This is it. This is how he dies. Everything gone all because he wanted to dress up.
A sickening crack resounded and everything went black for the plumber as he passed out from the pain and lack of air. The sound caused Bowser to freeze once again. Looked at the unconscious form, unmoving body in his grasp. Blood at the corners of the mans mouth and running down his cheek. Eyes widening with realisation he quickly opened his hand as if Luigis body was burning him. What had he done. Sure he was angry but he never wanted to. He didnt mean to. Realisation hit him as hard as Luigis unconscious form his the floor. No no no no, he panicked. Hands shaking Bowser slowly reached for Luigis body. Gently placing one on the mans chest he could ever so slightly feel it rise and fall. Not dead. A wash of relief flooded over him. Then he felt the chest stop. Long moments later it started again. Quickly Bowser called out for Kamek. Just as quickly the old man appeared at his side. “Yea your Majes” his sentence cut off has he gasped upon seeing Luigis body. Kamek was pulled from his shock as Bowser spoke “quickly we have to get him to the infirmary.”
Sorry yall it was supposed to be fluffy. I cant write fluffy very good. The og plan was foe Bowser to end up having a good time playing with his kid and Luigi. But then i just dismissed the kid and it got darker and darker. I wish i wrote it better tho. Its kinda lame i think lol i can do better but jts my first time writing anything mario related. So i dont have a good grasp on the characters. Ill get there. Also couldnt decide which kid i wanted it to be so ill leave that up to yall.
Bowuigi prompt feat Luigi and Roy bonding experience™️
Two months after he's been kidnapped and held hostage in a strange world and had his life changed forever, Luigi is facing a kind of internal crisis. He's trying to find romance
The problem is his brain keeps on focusing on a certain koopa king, and he can not figure out why.
He thinks he's under some kind of hypnosis at first, making him think of these things, but unfortunately, for Luigi, he finds himself under a different kind of spell. Not only is Bowser hot, but he's also realizing why he never wanted to get a girlfriend.
Luigi suddenly realizes he's bisexual and PANICS cause he's afraid that nobody would accept him for who he is.
Fortunately, Roy Koopa hears his troubles and comes to the rescue and reveals to Luigi that he, too, is bisexual.
Also, they bond over acting feminine and crossdressing
As the two grow closer, Luigi talks more about his insecurities, while Roy finally has the courage to reveal to Luigi about his not so great childhood and running away from an abusive household.
Roy, with the help of Wendy, wants to set Luigi up with Bowser on a date, but problem is they're afraid the other koopalings might ruin it so they keep it secret.
As you can tell, hilarious shenanigans ensue, and the date is surprisingly a success. Luigi, thanks Roy for all the crap he's done. Roy thinks the two of them should hang out more often, and Luigi agrees
Death will not do us part
The moon hung high in the night sky, casting an ethereal glow over the ancient tombstones that dotted the royal graveyard. The air was heavy with a sense of solemnity, as if even nature itself recognized the sacredness of this hallowed ground. Silence enveloped the area, broken only by sporadic sounds that seemed to emerge from the shadows.
Occasionally, a mischievous Boo cackle would echo through the stillness, its eerie laughter sending shivers down one's spine. These playful spirits, known for their spectral pranks and tricks, found solace in this realm of eternal rest. Their ethereal voices danced on the wind, adding an otherworldly charm to the otherwise somber atmosphere.
Amidst the Boo's haunting laughter, an owl hoot resonated through the night. The wise creature perched on a branch nearby, its golden eyes gleaming with ancient knowledge.
The Boo looked at the glorious sarcophagi, staring longingly at the jewels encrusted on the surfaces. They were captivated by the shimmering gemstones, their translucent forms yearning for the touch of earthly riches. Though they could not physically interact with the sarcophagi, their spectral fingers traced the intricate patterns carved into the stone, as if trying to absorb the opulence through ethereal means.
As the Boo continued to marvel at the treasures before them, a soft whisper filled their ears. They floated toward a particular sarcophagus. Judging by the new design and intact luster, this person passed recently. The Boo looked at the placard floating on top of it, curious to know whose grave this was.
The whisper turned into a groan.
The heavy lid of the sarcophagus shifted as a large, skeletal claw moved it aside. A glowing red eye stared at the Boo. The spirit yelped and covered their eyes. The skeletal figure emerging from the sarcophagus. Its bones creaked and cracked with each movement, as if it hadn't been disturbed in centuries. The red eye continued to glow ominously, piercing through the darkness of the graveyard.
With a raspy voice that sent shivers down the Boo's ethereal spine, the skeletal being spoke. “Finally,” it said. “The month of fright is here.”
The constant eye-contact was too much for the shy spirit, so they vanished. The skeletal being cackled as other sarcophagi opened. A dozen other skeletons rose from the graves, sporting spiked shells and bracelets. The red-eyed one looked at his reflection on the lid and fixed the hair on his skull into a bun.
“There he goes to see his husband.”
“Every fright month…”
“I still think he should have married that Mushroom Princess.”
The other Dry Koopas stared at the one who said that disapprovingly, causing them to slink back into the sarcophagus. A Dry Bone with a metallic gold shell crossed her arm and touched her cheek, “Look at him. Ever since he met and married that little human, he’s been so happy, even after death,” she said.
“Their rule over the Darklands was glorious! They brought peace and honor to our kingdom,” said a male Dry Koopa.
“Bowser may have had a rough life at first, but everything worked out in the end.”
Bowser removed some moss on his ribs and adjusted his spiky accessories. He listened to their words, a faint smile playing on his skeletal face. He had come a long way from his days of loneliness and bitterness. Meeting Luigi had changed everything for him - he had shown him love, compassion, and the power of redemption. Satisfied with his appearance, the Koopa climbed out of his grave. “I’m heading out!”
“Travel safely, Bowser! And say hello to Luigi for me!”
“Bye, Mom!”
Other skeletal relatives bid their goodbyes. As he made his way across the graveyard, his bony tail wagged madly with excitement, causing a faint rattling sound that echoed through the night. Orbs of light appeared around the haunted space, casting an eerie glow. More members of the Royal Koopa Family arose from their graves and began to sing and dance; after all, they had a full thirty days of sentience to enjoy!
Bowser crossed the red gates protecting the graveyard and sprinted to the Boo Woods, ready to find his love.
.
.
.
The Dry Koopa looked at the dilapidated mansion before him. Its cracked walls and broken windows were a testament to the passage of time and neglect. As he stood there, a gust of wind blew through the decrepit structure, causing the remaining shutters to creak in protest. Windows and pillars were covered in vines and moss. Lightning struck overhead, lighting the eerie floors. Some of the windows had eerie yellow lights.
Bowser rattled with excitement as he knocked on the cracked door. The door eerily swung open on its own. He stepped forward into the darkness and looked around; the door slammed shut behind him. Eerie whispers echoed around him. Lights slowly turned on and furniture started to float. The Dry Koopa’s tail wagged, “Luigi, are you here?” he asked.
A chill went down his spine as something cold touched his shoulder and a voice replied, “Hello~”
The Dry Koopa turned his head around 180 degrees and smiled at the ghost behind him. His body was somewhat translucent with a greenish hue. The ghostly figure floated in front of the Dry Koopa, its ethereal form flickering in and out of existence. His once brown hair was now white and long; his overalls were replaced with a light green poet shirt, black pants, and boots.
Bowser grabbed the ghost and pulled him into a hug, nuzzling his skull against his face. Luigi squealed with joy. As Bowser embraced the ghostly figure, memories flooded back into his mind. The first date they went on, how Luigi became an ambassador and helped with the peace proceedings. How terrified they both were about announcing their relationship publicly and the pure joy on their wedding day. Luigi peppered ghostly kisses all over his face. “I missed you, amore,” he said.
The Koopa smiled. “I came here as soon as I woke up!” he said. “My mom says hi.”
“Oh, that’s sweet. Hopefully I can come visit the graveyard soon,”
Luigi linked arms with him, floating beside Bowser as he walked further into the haunted mansion. The two chatted, reminiscing on the good times when they were alive. As they strolled through the dimly lit corridors, memories of their past adventures flooded their minds. Luigi couldn't help but chuckle as he recalled the time Bowser accidentally got stuck in a warp pipe during one of their battles.
"Remember when we had to team up to defeat that giant Boo?" Luigi asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Bowser laughed heartily, his deep voice echoing through the eerie halls. "How could I forget? You were so scared, you jumped into my arms!"
They continued down the hallway, passing by portraits of long-deceased residents and cobweb-covered furniture. The mansion's ghostly inhabitants watched them curiously, some whispering among themselves. Seeing the undead couple was the highlight of the year, that and because other loved ones, no matter what dead form they took, could freely visit.
Luigi leaned his head on Bowser’s shoulder, “I hear Junior is doing well.”
Bowser chuckled. “Of course he is! He’s our son,” he said.
As they walked further into the mansion, Luigi couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. The memories of their past adventures flooded his mind, reminding him of all the times they had fought against each other as enemies, only to eventually become allies and then husbands.
“All the Koopalings are faring well too,” he said.
Bowser nodded. “I’m glad there was no fighting over the throne after we passed,” he replied. “Hell, they even divided the kingdom amongst themselves.”
Luigi guided him down a hallway and into a massive ballroom; spirits floated all around, talking and dancing. Several pieces of furniture glided around the room. As Bowser and Luigi entered the grand ballroom, the ethereal atmosphere engulfed them. The spirits, adorned in elegant attire from various eras, gracefully twirled and conversed with one another. The room itself seemed alive, with chandeliers illuminating the space and casting a soft glow on the floating furniture.
The Boo glided around Bowser before standing before him. Luigi extended his hand and grinned, “Can I have this dance?”
“Always, my love.”
            With a slight nod and a gentle smile, Bowser took Luigi's hand in his massive clawed one. Their touch sent shivers down their spines, but it was a comforting sensation that neither of them could deny. The Boo, sensing the intensity of the moment, dimmed the lights and conjured a soft melody that filled the room.
            As the music began to play, Luigi and Bowser moved gracefully across the floor. Their steps were perfectly synchronized, each movement flowing effortlessly between them. Two souls that not even death could separate.
I saw this post by @elitadream for her Body Swap AU. I then blacked out, and when I came to I had written a one-shot. Enjoy! As usual, be mindful of the tagged trigger warnings.
––––––––
"Don't look so gloomy, you should revel in the fact that you held such power! You were the sole pillar that held The Mushroom Kingdom aloft!” Kamek reached out a hand and patted the great chained beast on the snout like it was the head of a small child. Mario winced and tried to turn his face away, but the enchanted shackles held him firmly in place. In his helplessness, he locked eyes with the malicious magikoopa, and blew a puff of smoke in a silent threat.
Having been imprisoned for so long, Mario passed the time learning to wield and control Bowser’s fire breath in hopes that, at some point, it would be of use. The way the heat built up in his lungs didn't feel too different from how firebrand once burned within his heart and weaved around the bones of his hands. In the dingy silence of his cell, he spat large jets of blinding orange flames, breathed tiny flicks of red embers, and puffed dark billows of grey smoke in a quiet contemplation of what all he was capable of. While his body was restrained in such a way that he couldn’t aim the weapon, the fact he could use it at all proved to be a very helpful form of self-defense against the soldiers who delivered his rations of food and water.
Once the guards had overcome the initial strangeness of Mario inhabiting their King’s body, they grew cruel, taking every opportunity to taunt the fallen hero. Physically damaging him was off-limits, but everything else was permitted, and when the usual insults escalated to spitting and throwing food, Mario finally lost his temper, releasing a billow of fire and a fearsome roar that cleared the room in seconds. From then on, whenever a koopa entered his cell, he would growl lowly and breathe smoke. This effectively deterred any further abuse…
… unless, of course, it was Kamek. Kamek was not only accustomed to Bowser’s fearful form, but he knew he was Mario’s sole hope of returning to his own body. Whatever threat was directed at him was nothing more than an amusement. “On the other hand," he continued, "you are the greatest crack in their defenses. Never before have we made so much progress in conquering a kingdom in such a short amount of time, and you’re entirely to thank for it!” “Leave me alone.” Mario had intended to sound menacing then, but despite his new voice there was no denying the fear and sorrow that muddled every word. Kamek smiled. “Oh? But don’t you want to hear about this progress we made? That the castle is falling? That Princess Peach has disappeared?” Mario’s eyes widened. The chains holding him back clattered as his massive body jolted. Fear built within him, stoking the literal flames in his chest until it glowed with heat.
Kamek appeared satisfied with this reaction. “Yes! Disappeared entirely! We expected such behavior from your brother… hiding himself like a proper coward… but we are having a good deal of trouble figuring out where The Princess has gone to!”
Mario suddenly became aware of a strange pain spreading through his body. He had, by now, become accustomed to the burning aches that accompanied being chained up for so long, but this pain was different: more direct and intentional, like a thousand little blades tearing at the sinews beneath the skin. He now saw that the wand in Kamek’s hand was glowing, the smile on his bespectacled face wider and more malicious. “Now, your body is still the property of Lord Bowser, and as such is not allowed to come to any harm.” He hummed, “Thankfully, I know a few spells capable of causing a great amount of pain without damaging the vessel.”
Mario tensed. The agony spreading throughout his body worsened, and he huffed a small burst of flame from between gritted teeth.
“So, I’ll ask this only once:” Kamek hissed, “Where do you suppose the princess has gone?”
Mario answered with a cold glare, then squeezed his eyes shut in anticipation. Kamek, having expected this, obliged by intensifying the spell. There was the initial surge, white-hot and agonizing, forcing a restrained cry, when the pain suddenly– and unexpectedly– ceased. Even stranger, Mario felt his restraints fall away, and nearly collapsed in their absence, his limbs slowly shifting in the relief of newfound freedom.
Kamek released a guttural gasp. Mario opened his eyes just in time to see his tormentor struggling against tendrils of bright pink magic that wreathed around him like serpents, until the magikoopa slumped quietly to the floor in an unconscious heap. Behind him stood the familiar figure of Princess Peach, her hands ablaze with magic that sparkled like starlight.
Seeing her in the doorway, disheveled but unharmed, scowling at the fallen foe before her, Mario was suddenly overwhelmed by fear and shame. He’d had dreams like this during his captivity, and believing them for even a second proved immeasurably painful when he awoke to find himself restrained and alone. But even if this wasn’t an illusion, everything he was at this moment was an affront to her: a strange combination of monstrousness and uselessness. His alien form complemented his own newfound insignificance, every ounce of goodwill he’d earned over the years now actively destroying all they had struggled to protect. His body fought to make itself smaller as he stumbled back, only to be immediately stopped by the far wall of his tiny cell.
“S-Sono costernato…” he began, loathing the sound of his own voice. But Peach had already crossed the room, desperate to hold him the moment she recognized his eyes. Mario felt the soft fabric of her gloves wrapped around his face, her hair tickling his snout as she pressed her forehead against him. It was difficult not to hold her in return, but Mario restrained himself. He feared underestimating his own strength and unintentionally hurting her more than he already had, so he simply stood there, basking in the sensation and taking in the undeniable reality of it all.
Life is good.
Scratch that. Life is better. Especially now that Vox had been spending quite a lot of time with you. The moments that the two of you shared made him smile like an idiot in love.
Well, he IS an idiot in love and where’s the lie in that?
His everyday life seems brighter and livelier with you around. He finally has something to look forward to aside from the FNAF movie or the bowser x reader fanfic that he’s currently obsessed with. You make him happy, and he’s just glad to be near you.
Glad to have some of your time despite your busy schedule. Glad to see your beautiful smile and hear your sweet voice. He even began to banter with Nick about who will get your number first, it was a sight to see, especially for Shiro (who basically has to babysit two Y/n simps now). Vox would walk you home every now and then, sharing a lovely talk with you before saying goodbyes.
Everything was amazing for him but there was something that's been bothering him...
Whenever he drops you home, he felt a chilling presence of something that surely...wasn't human. At first, he didn't really paid mind into it, but everywhere that you went with him, the reeking presence follows. Who or what could this presence be? Were you in trouble? Does he have something to do with this?
If ever, Vox was determined to find out.
He followed you around town, keeping a low profile so he doesn’t stand out. On the other hand, you were completely oblivious as you tend to your errands. The ravenette admires your beauty as you picked fruits from an outdoor stall. How could you be so pretty even when doing the simplest things?
You quickly paid and resumed your walk around town. Then, Vox felt his throat go dry when he feels the presence again. The farther that you went into the town, the stronger it gets.
Sweat forms in his palms as he tried to keep himself hidden from you. For a few moments, nothing happens. But as you passed an alley, a hooded figure follows right behind you. 'Got ’cha you bastard.' Vox follows after the person and tries not to catch your attention at the same time.
Once you entered a shop, he tackled the person to the ground, holding him down. "I got you, you motherf*cker. What do you plan on doing following my Y/n like that, huh you c*nt? Do you think you can-"
"-Vox! What are you doing?! Get off him!"
You came running out of the shop as soon as you heard the commotion and pulled him off the hooded person. "Oh my god, are you okay?! I'm so sorry about him." You asked the person with worry. "Y/n, this person was following you-"
"Vox, he's my friend."
"What?"
The man got up from the ground with your help and he took his hood off. The moment that Vox saw his face, he felt his soul leave his body.
No way in hell...
You helped the person dust himself off and checked for injuries but saw none. With a sigh, you turned to Vox, ready to reprimand the male.
"Vox, this is the friend that I've been babysitting for." You explained, still having that scolding look on your face. “Now apologize to him, Vox.”
The man chuckles and smiles at you, “It’s fine, Y/n.” Then he meets the demon's golden irises, sending chills to the raventette's spine "It's nice to see you again, Vox."
Vox shows him an irked smile, "Same here,
Shu Yamino."
