It actually needs to be studied how the encanto fandom took one tiny verse from a song and misconstrued pepas entire character. Where did this narrative that she’s bitter and mean even come from??? how did y’all manage to successfully convince people that was true!? people think pepa is SO hung up about thr wedding but mirabel literally asked her a question??? was she meant to just say nothing????? god forbid a woman wants to tell a fun story😭 these lyrics aren’t even mean either it’s literally just what happened “it was my wedding day we were getting ready and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky” “Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin” “Bruno said it looked like rain” “in doing so he floods my brain” where is the “mean” in this? where is the bitter?? mind you this is the one and ONLY time she brings up the wedding and it’s because mirabel wanted to know. like even if pepa was bitter she has every right to be! you would think growing up with a sister who you KNOW has weather depending on her mood and the anxiety that comes with it, would be enough of a reason to not make a bad taste joke! It was her WEDDING DAY!!!
Any other instance I see people stating pepa was “mean” is literally just she looked at mirabel funny. Im sorry if you had your seat taken at the table you would look at her funny too! it’s a look that lasts less than 3 seconds and mirabel is not bothered at all in fact she looks guilty! People say oh but the proposal but the woman was panicking! she got told like everyone else this was all happening because of mirabel! Pepa is passionate she can be sassy and she’s fiercely loving but she is not a mean bitter person and never was!!

man. the most persistently irritating thing about daniel emond's "kill the whale" is how fucking GOOD it is at times.
every day I think about The Quarterdeck and how phenomenally it portrays that scene and the magnetism of agreeing to Ahab's quest even despite fear, and Dusk and the subplot of Starbuck falling in love with Ahab and being terrified of what that means, but ESPECIALLY Fedallah's introduction song where Fedallah is presented as a woman with agency, who looks the audience in the face and dares us to judge her for the life she has chosen.
Fedallah is presented as the captain's lover, the captain's party trick and pleasure, and owns the shitshow she lives in, and only chooses to reject that life once she tires of Ahab's fetishization and exotification of her, and then uses the very thing Ahab fetishizes so much (her prophecies) as a way to spell her own doom and drag Ahab down with her, freeing herself. The shivers I still feel when I hear Fedallah's triumphant crow of "come back here" as she sinks below the waves and Ahab watches in horror, knowing she is next.
that fucking ruled to a degree that shook me!!!!!!!!! and hearing Grace McLean and Amber Gray (and Danielle McKnight) duke it the fuck out through song was just genuinely magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and then the narrative kicks you right in the throat by calling queequeg "q" for two hours straight and making his marriage to ishmael lowkey racist hate sex
#moby dick#kill the whale#daniel emond#daniel if u see this i do genuinely think you have such a fantastic musical brewing here i am being so serious#u 100% have my ticket if this ever goes live#but i am also on my hands and knees begging you to talk to a pasifika person about this for like one hour minimum Please#norman sann is incredible and deserves to be a huge part of this show do not get me wrong#but you need to figure out what you're doing with q because bro. if you join the long line of ppl denying pasifika rep in moby dick#notably the book with a protag love interest Who Is Pasifika#you will be FUMBLING an otherwise Incredible bag. holy shit.#(also as a personal note please make fedallah textually zoroastrian please gbdjfhdjfndj)#ok thats all#<- tags that might sound insane but this guy regularly looks himself up on line and has found ME specifically THRICE across dif. medias#so the chance of him seeing this is nonzero so. just covering my bases#anyways#mossy speaks#god fedallah in this show makes me INSANE 'you will not summon me and you can tell yourself your own bedtime stories' had me SCREAMING#it takes a LOT to get me to root against ahab#ESPECIALLY hot lady ahab?????? with the fuckinfkfnf. grace mcleans presence and her lowkey strip tease???? like dude i was so cooked#i got distracted. talking abt fedallah. anyways. dude the way she rallies against ahab is genuinely so subversive and brilliant#like THAT is good shit. why was the whole musical not this good. auaugrhrhhrhrhdhhhgjgjkgn#mobydick adaptations r so consistently bad to mid but with specific things that change your entire life sprinkled in and leave me like 🧍🧍#(not counting hayashida's album. that is genuinely flawless. no notes. 100% stand by it)#but this adaptation comes the closest to touching greatness. i just 😭i need it to be Better in the parts where its lacking. bc it has-#SO MUCH POTENTIAL. and the CAST????? AUGHGHHHHHBFJ. god. every one of them is divine#anyways yap session over im normal. ivr been thinking abt this for days but im normal now

Why are people so defendent of Tom Taylor (DC)? Like people on reddit subs treat him as some sort of Saint incapable of flaws and with top notch flawless writing....I'm actually baffled that people defend actual valid criticism of his Nightwing run with "You are just a chronic hater" , "DickBabs hater" , "Toxic DickKory fan" , some even accusing that you're a LGBTQ+/Liberal thoughts hater 💀
Like guys....he's not a God. He is just a human calm down....
I have never really made a post about him specifically since I like to keep my blog positive but um what's wrong with the fan base??
I recently made a post on reddit discussing the "Wisely and Ethically invested money" Alfred's letter scene of the Nightwing (2016) run by Taylor and ppl are actually telling me I'm the problem since these details don't matter and that I'm an idiot for looking into it? (Some of them don't even clarify why and make pretty bad comparisons/points) Like uh what
You are telling me Dick Grayson , the same guy who turned down a whole rich funding from a shady guy at one point wouldn't care on how Alfred somehow managed to have more money than Bruce Wayne ???? And the only explanation we get is that it was invested WISELY & ETHICALLY?!
Like bro depending on the continuity, Alfred has killed people in his run as a spy in England, he is not too innocent and his definition of morals and ethics can differ ALOT from us.
If TT did act on it other than the bland/low stake stuff he's been doing, we could have had a pretty good stake in the game since that money would matter quite a lot (its too relevant to the plot) and would put Dick into a dilemma on if he should use it or not incase he found out its origins...It would have actually led to Character development...
Like what's wrong in pointing out bad writing? You have to show or atleast show implications for things not just spell it out.... just saying "Character A did good things" isn't enough. You need to show what good things Character A did.
Im genuinely curious as to what exactly is this fan base...and what's wrong with it since....how is this question even dumb?
For people curious on the post, here's the link to it. Feel free to read and share your opinions!

I think I said this after Calamity too but like. It's not that there's a wrong way to enjoy fiction, precisely, but I really do think that when someone's first or even seventh instinct upon watching a tragedy is to say "wow imagine the potential for Everyone Lives Fix-it Fic that gives me the ending I wanted" that is genuinely more unsettling to me than like, the tragedy itself.

an edek themed collage 🪲
#not me posting this just to have an excuse to talk about him more aaahahhhah#i've created edek approx 4 years ago and since then he went through little to no design changes#he is jus flawless. perfect#his personality however.. oof#i mean !!! he's not a bad guy#as i mentioned before he's very friendly and open to new people and opportunities#its just. he was based on my (now) ex best friend#me and that friend were close during primary school and despite me moving cities we managed to keep this friendship going#but you know. it wasnt the same. it became long distance#and i think i manifested my longing by creating an oc that was based on his aesthetics and personality#it took me some time to realise that i've been viewing this friend through lens of this oc. that of course lead to idealisation#because he wasn't physically there with me i created an imaginary version of him in my head#it was also because at this point we were getting older and slowly growing apart#and i think i wanted to grasp a little part of him that would still understand me#edek's relationship with ryba was also heavily influenced by this relationship#and. well. the things that my ex friend and edek have in common are short temper (despite acting chill) and trouble showing affection#he also tends to say things faster than he can even think them through#oh and he enjoys long walks through the woods and mountain hiking and bicycling and bugs and mushrooms and. yeah#and the other traits!!!!#he is suuuuuuper protective of his loved ones especially his younger sister irenka#his interest include everything thats fantasy and with folklore themes#hes also a stoner lol#aaand a funfact - he and zbyszek (of dycha za zbycha!!!!) used to be friends in childhood but they aren't friends as of now#why you might ask? from edek's pov zbyszek and his family just randomly disappeared#and edek was the only one that wasn't in on the fact that they have moved to the usa#edek wondered why his best friend at that time didn't tell him such important news#and often thought that there mustve been something wrong with him or zbyszek didn't actually like him that much#this incident heeeavily influenced his perception of relationships in the future#OH AND ALSOO hes an artist he graduated art hs with a degree in graphic design and is in college for the same thing#original character

People shocked at the Hatbox ghost being the bad guy like the most major story about him is the urban legend he was too scary and gave someone a heart attack in the sixties. Now the effect works and the face is dialed down a bit and I think there’s been nothing but fanon for so long that it’s shocking people that some think he could be a bad guy?
Just to clarify, I’m not saying your wrong for having a kinder interpretation or even liking the character (I think everyone does) but you have to keep in mind it’s possible for others to have a more sinister interpretation. Also now that I think about it the heart attack legend may have shaped some of how his character works within the film- very major plot point stuff. That’s actually really cool.

my thoughts on boy and the heron [no spoilers]
i enjoyed it overall, pacing was a little meh and the plot was a bit confusing to my stupid ass but they got their point across
animation was amazing (always is for ghibli movies but this one especially impressed me), they used 3D environments sparingly but i think it was done well
i ended up seeing the dub because i heard that karen fukahara was in it, needed kipo voice for my childish, cartoon-loving side
robert pattinson robert pattinson robert pattinson
miyazaki has created yet another army of little guys with a silly little name that i can't stop saying

Realizing that I went and wrote a bunch of intentionally aro relationships and my partner was like, "Idk, it seemed like normal relationships to me," and I was like, "I mean yeah it's not that different from ours, I guess, I was kind of going for 45° off from 'normal' romance," and they're like, "Okay, but ours is also pretty much like that," and I'm like, "Yeah, true," and now I'm like, damn hold up, are we both some kinda arospec and THIS is how we figure it out? Because I wrote a long-ass fic about intentionally queer-coded (among other things) robots? Life is weird, man.
Like I've been prone to extreme long-term crushes on a very few (mostly unattainable) people over the years, but I wouldn't have known what to do with them even if they worked out, and cough my ex was not even one of them. I just kind of assumed I was failing to feel a thing I was totally supposed to feel, there, and quite a lot of that relationship emotionally was me going, "Okay, I care like This, but I think I'm supposed to care like That? I'm pretty sure he cares That way. I'm not sure I do, but I mean, there's really only one way*, so maybe I'm just misreading this and actually I do care like That, I'm just bad at it."
*This was me being very incorrect, it turns out. There's all kinds of ways to love someone. It's a very inadequate and nonspecific word.
When I confessed my feelings (which I'd been sitting on for a year) to my partner, their reaction wasn't to be particularly romantic about it. In fact they told me they'd help me move to California if I wanted to. And after I got over my initial confusion of being kissed on the forehead (which is also not super romantic as a gesture and I couldn't decide how to even read that so I kinda skipped over even trying for a while), I was thinking, Awesome, that is a yes. They have promised to assist me with difficult stuff, and said nothing at all about emotions, because that's not a big deal anyway. The important thing is that I can rely on them and vice versa. Cool. We are basically together forever now. Which ended up being true. I just never moved out and now it's like 13 years later, go figure. But that's not what I think actually passes for reciprocating feelings for most people? Worked great for me though.
Anyway I feel like I have accidentally learned something about myself, lol. I guess romance is okay I guess, like it's not repulsive, but seriously, it's WAY more satisfying to me to guess someone else's Quiplash answer because you know they know you would think it's fucking funny, and you do, and because you think it's funny and you're well aware they know your type of humor and you know theirs and that you wouldn't expect them to use "cum" as an answer because that's not usually how they roll, so of course that is the only answer they can possibly give, which is instantly evident to both of you with no conversation whatsoever on the topic. When you got just one brain cell and it's quantum entangled with their just one brain cell so you have a lot of null discussions where nobody has to say anything but it's fully understood anyway, that's The Dream, if you ask me. And like I don't really think that's romantic by the usual definition. You can have that with friends and family, too. But that is what it turns out I prioritize in relationships, which I'm starting to feel like isn't what the majority of people are here for?
TFW it's hard to tell because I've been assuming I'm totally alloromantic so everything I experience must be typical totally alloromantic stuff too, but I'm starting to think it isn't maybe? But how do I even tell, this is like being colorblind, lmao.

i can't get rocky horror picture show. i feel like for it to have appeal to you, it needed to have been formative media and a sexual awakening of sorts. watched it a couple years ago coming from 1. already being out of the closet for years, 2, knowing the reputation rhps has both with the transmisogyny and theater nerds. i was gonna approach it for what it was, and i hoped to at least find some appreciation as a pulp sci fi enjoyer. but what made the most disappointed in the end is that for its reputation, it was not nearly as weird or transgressive or as queer as other 70s movies i know of or have seen. i had already seen phantom of the paradise by that point so my expectations for weird rock operas were set much higher, and i expected more of the pulpiness that it promised. i can appreciate the acting, art direction, some of the music, and i can understand what it meant to people, but there are way better and more entertaining and weirder 70s movies out there. i watched it in a double feature with shock treatment and i liked shock better. if you want a better pulp sci fi sex comedy with questionable elements, watch flesh gordon (1974)
.
