little things I do as a swim coach that I hope makes a difference for some of these kids
I ask them about their grown-ups instead of parents, idk how their homelives are and that way I'm inclusive instead potentially excluding kids
I always re-explain my rules at the start of practice, that way they know them if they forget
even then my rules are really basic (head above the water when I'm talking, no talking when I'm talking, don't hold your kickboard underwater/sit on your kickboard [safety rule that's in place for all but the two oldest groups in our club])
I always remind them of my name at the start of practice (even then I sometimes get called Miss Coach lmao)
I try to explain why we're doing certain things (ex. why we do so much flutterkick on our back, etc.)
I try to demonstrate everything
this one isn't always an option for me, especially if I have something going on after practice where I need my hair to be dry
if we're having a really tough day, then we end a bit early and instead we talk about kindergarten and recess and all sorts of things before we do game/end practice
for some of these kids they're coming straight off a school day into the pool with no breaks and sometimes that means that they really struggle with listening and doing what's being asked of them
I will always try to answer their questions, in the most kid friendly way possible
I often come to the pool with my ankles, knees or shoulder braced, just because of the nature of my joints, and I do my best to explain to them why I have the tape/brace on
So good I had to share! Check out all the items I'm loving on @Poshmarkapp #poshmark #fashion #style #shopmycloset #oliviaf #twofoldclothing #flutterkick: https://posh.mk/QFVJd8pf6Z
The King of Bavaria was obsessed with building a fantasy world that was more real and intense than our regular one.
The Walt Disney Castle that Tinkerbell farts glitter and flutterkicks around was modeled on King Ludwig II's Neuwachstein Castle.
King Ludwig loved Wagner's operas so much, he had an underground grotto, complete with stream and swan-shaped boats that floated past different stages playing different parts of the new opera.......
The infamous peacock room with three thrones....
I mean oh my lord look at THIS...
The lodge is so lovely and extravagantly butch, and iconoclastly traditional. Love it. A lot. Glad to see it popped up in your pineal, too. There is an amazing interior shot that that I seem unable to find for some odd reason.........
It shows a lot of opulent ruggedness and carved wood and antlers etc. The Bavarian Wonka is an endless trove of over-the-top majesty.
Ludwig II is endlessly fascinating.
And his architectural creations are absolutotasticalianaristic. Superb.
Unreal fantasies and chimeras pounded into reality. Looking into him further will not disappoint.
Get into position by placing your hands flat on the floor, directly below your shoulders.
Extend your legs out behind you, with only your toes and balls of your feet touching the floor.
Hold your body up and keep your back straight by tightening your abdominal muscles.
Your neck and head should be bent slightly back.
Lower your chest towards the ground by bending your elbows until your chest is just above the ground or you feel a stretching of your chest and shoulders. Hold for a count of one.
Press upwards from your chest and shoulders, straightening your arms as you return to the starting position. Hold for a count of one.
Strength/Lower Body: Air Squats
Place your feet at shoulder width apart while keeping your chest up and your abdominals braced.
Begin the movement by swinging your arms up towards your shoulders. At the same time, bend at the knees and drive your hips back like you’re sitting in a chair.
Once your upper thighs are parallel with the ground, pause, then drive your hips forward to return to the starting position.
Strength/Core: Plank
Get into a face down position on the floor supporting your upper body on your forearms. Your elbows should be bent at 90 degrees.
Extend your legs straight out behind you, supporting them on your toes and balls of your feet.
Keep your body in a straight line by tightening your abdominal and oblique muscles.
Hold for as long as possible.
Strength/Core: Flutter Kicks
Lie on a mat with your hands under your buttocks and raise your legs slightly, keeping knees straight and ankles together.
Keep abs engaged and perform short kicks in an alternating fashion.
Repeat as needed and then lower legs to the ground.
Strength/Core: Crunches
Lie flat on your back with your feet flat on the ground, with your knees bent at 90 degrees. Alternatively, you can place your feet up on a bench a few inches apart with your toes turned inwards and touching.
Place your hands lightly on either side of your head. Keep your elbows in so that they are parallel to your body.
Push your back down flat into the floor to isolate your abdominal muscles.
Gently curl your shoulders forward and up off the floor. Continue to push down into the floor with your lower back.
Raise your shoulders about four to six inches off the ground.
Hold and squeeze your abdominal muscles for a count of one.
Return to the start position in a smooth movement.
🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵 Backstroke Kicking Tips 🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵 Feet in the water... seems obvious but for some swimmers it is not. Keeping your kick in the water allows for maximum power. Kick starts at your hip- not your knee. This allows for full range of motion. Toes should be pointed. Creates better up and down kick which means better propulsion. Proper body position enables a stronger kick- so don't drop your hips! 🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵🔵🏵 #backstroke #backstrokekick #flutterkick #swim #swimmingcoach #usaswimming #swimmers #swimtraining #technique #swimteam #swimbetter #swimmerlife #swim4life #swimming https://www.instagram.com/p/CTn63NaAG01/?utm_medium=tumblr
