My thoughts while watching the last 2 episodes:

- I CAN'T BELIEVE WE ACTUALLY GOT ANSWERED THE ROPE THROWING OMG!!!

- AND FINALLY LITERAL ANSWERS HANDED ON A PLATE, LIKE SAID WORD BY WORD? Daaam writers, what did we do to deserve this special treatment

- I love Julie being all giggly and all happy-go-lucky around Randall, I cannot blame you one bit girlie

- on a serious note though, I'm really glad the creators didn't have the amazing idea to push the issue between any further 🤡 (but I doubt anyone would even seriously consider this, this show is not in need of plots like that)

- Randall becoming the lesbian roommate protector made my week

- also the fact that my babygirl Randall is finally undergoing a change of heart, I've (maybe not always but still) believed in you pookie

- something has changed in Boyd. I really hope The Town doesn't break him.

- Donna's hair looks really pretty and silky these episodes

- Henry lmao he is a mood and a representation of all of us during Jim's and Jade's argument (what even was that 🤡)

- my poor Victor omg

- Elgin 🤡

- there has been no character throughout my whole life who would edge harder on the perception wether he's good or evil than Boy in White, I have less and less idea with every episode 🤡

- I still don't like looking at Kimono Woman. At all.

- NOW I DON'T EVEN MORE AFTER THE JUMPSCARE IN THE HUT THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I'm the person to always predict what happens next but this wasn't the case, kudos to the writers 👏

- I don't t think Boyd's choices are fully moral but at the same time I completely understand him

Eagle Strike vs Russian Roulette FIGHT

Horowitz isn't just a pantser, he's a pantser with bad memory. When he wrote Stormbreaker he had no idea who Yassen Gregorovich was. He was just Alex's cool, sexy, mysterious nemesis who spends the whole book voguing in designer jeans.

He doesn't become interesting until Eagle Strike (where he's still not allowed to do anything really awful) and Snakehead (where he's finally allowed to kill four and a half MI6 agents).

If you don't know, the prologue and epilogue of Russian Roulette tells Stormbreaker from Yassen's POV. According to the timeline established therein, Yassen did not kill Ian Rider. He couldn't have. He was in Hong Kong when Ian Rider died. It also completely erases Snakehead along with several other terrible writing sins that I will not get into here.

So this is just a long way of saying that I can't use anything from RR in my book timeline without tainting the whole timeline irreparably. Thank you for your understanding.

“Stop trying to protect—” and “Kill the ones I miss,” and the choreography and camera framing commit to it.

From the moment Perrin says “Kill the ones I miss” until after his confrontation with Padan Fain, he does not turn to face Faile. Any enemy fighter that gets past him no longer registers—they’re Faile’s to deal with. Several enemies he just knocks down/aside, but he doesn’t stop to finish them off.

Even when Faile is probably not technically behind him (given the shape of the village square), he is not looking at her. He’s being framed as surveying the battle, or he’s fighting someone else, or she’s out of frame, and then Faile comes into the shot and kills the enemies he did not see.

Faile speaks directly to him twice (“I like your Women’s Circle” and “Kill him!”). Both times, she’s behind him, and he doesn’t even verbally respond. He has a mission: first to rally everyone at the square and then to get to Padan Fain. He trusts Faile with her own mission: to watch his six. To protect him.

And even when the enemy is retreating and he has finally turned around to watch them go, he’s still not focused on her. Not until she pulls him down into a victory kiss.

i love the give and take between "wilderness real?" and "it was just US" in yellowjackets s3e7 croak. because on one hand, we have confirmation that the trees screaming was just frogs mating. akilah's cave hallucinations are sounding more and more mundane, and travis, who tends to be more on the Faithful end of the spectrum is faltering pretty hard right now because he thinks he's convinced lottie to put akilah into Chez Carbon Monoxide for a cowardly reason that's just endangering all of them and making them do even worse stuff. (he was SO messed up after they force-fed the coach and he tried to talk to nat about it for some kind of answer.)

callie thinking that her dad is making up bed bugs to explain the itch under his skin from his nerves is another piece of evidence towards this, that the theme is that people try to make meaning where there isn't any.

but......

natalie deciding to mercy kill ben exactly when she did put Shauna At Her Worst in charge when the frog scientists came. edwin wouldn't have freaked as badly if there wasn't a severed human head being displayed. lottie might not have been in an altered enough state that Ax Murder was her first option. if edwin wasn't killed, they might have been able to work together for rescue.

coach ben being alive could have been their bridge, especially compared to what actually did happen. and with van's exact dream... i don't know. it's still possible that things are some level of supernatural. i hope that they never confirm one way or the other because i LOVE being kept in the same level of darkness as the characters about it. are we making meaning where there isn't?

like... i hope that we keep getting conflicting messages that can't be 100% confirmed one way or the other and we keep fighting about it forever. i like the way that it simulates their desperation and lack of knowledge about their situation. i think it adds to the experience

Percy is cold and still in Vex’ahlia’s arms. Too cold, too still. She clutches onto him, as if by her will alone he might move, might blink, might breathe. Nobody has said anything since her anguished wail, as if they too are frozen and dead. The only sounds are the groaning metal of the factory settling and the cracking of the flames already burning down to embers. 

Maybe she’s engulfed in Ripley’s fear gas. Maybe Pike didn’t save her, and this is some horrible vision her mind has conjured to torture her. 

Vex wishes she could believe that. It would be better than the truth.

Everything feels too real, and she knows better than to believe in comforting lies.  

It’s Vax who breaks his stillness first, who takes two steps towards her. Vex’s first instinct is to flinch away, to scream at him, to refuse his attempts to comfort. She looks to her twin in his deathly Goddess’ raiment (the one he traded for her useless life) and thinks what has she loved that she does not spoil? 

She lets Vax place his hand on her shoulder. She knows that Vax needs to comfort her, as much as she doesn’t want his comfort right now. 

“Vex’ahlia,” he says, and his voice is that even measure of patient and tender that she’s heard from him more often of late. “Sister. We should bring him home.” 

Vex clutches Percy’s body closer. Bringing him back to Whitestone means that this will all be real. They’ll have to tell Cassandra and Yennen and everyone… Gods, Whitestone. He wanted to build a home there– and he’d asked her to be a part of this place that was so precious to him. 

Vax, bless him, doesn’t press her. But he is looking at her, eyes wide and sad and full of unshed tears. They all are looking at her– Keyleth is weeping silently, but they all have that same look in her eyes. Like they know. Like they can see into her deepest heart and they pity her. 

Her fingers wind through the fabric of Percy’s shirt, wrinkling it with their passage. He’d taken such care of it after their first night together, making sure to lay it over the back of a chair with his coat before coming back to kiss her so deeply and so well she should have known he was in love with her–

Vex’s fingers still in the fabric, suddenly aware of something missing. 

“Where’s his coat?” she asks, barely a whisper, her voice breaking. 

“What?” Vax asks. 

“His coat, his fucking coat, he’s not wearing it– where is it?!” Vex shrieks, loud enough that everyone takes a step back and that feels good or at least feels right because her fury is coming out of her as arrows from a tight strung bow and they should all stay away. “Where is his coat, goddamnit?!” 

“We’ll find it,” Pike says, after a moment. “Grog?” 

They head off into the darkness of the factory. Vex stays where she is, cradling Percy– Percy’s body. Come back to me, come back, come back. But there is no Matron waiting to make a deal for his life, and she’s fairly sure no goddess who would want to trade Vex’ahlia’s withered soul for his anyways. 

Vax and Keyleth don’t approach, seeming to sense that Vex would lash out at them for the attempt. They stand in silence, holding hands, leaning into each other. Vex isn’t even sure her brother is conscious of doing it. She can’t even summon it in herself to be glad for them, empty as she feels. 

She should have stayed in bed yesterday. Should have stolen those few extra minutes, instead of hiding away from herself. So what if Keyleth called her a hypocrite for it? And Vax sure talks a big game about being the protective brother, but she knew deep down that he would accept things. 

The tears stop– not because she no longer feels like crying, but because her body has no water left to give. 

At last the sound of footfalls on the metalwork, as Pike and Grog return. “Found it!” Pike says, panting a little bit. She’s holding a balled up bunch of blue fabric that nonetheless still drags a little on the ground. She slows as she approaches Vex and hands it over. 

Vex lets go of Percy to take his coat. It’s scorched and torn by what must have been an explosion– likely the same one they heard outside, that spurred them to run even faster into the nightmare. Percy would grumble about needing to find a tailor to get it repaired. 

Vex wraps it around her shoulders like a blanket, feeling the weight of the wool and lining. It smells of smoke and sulfur, burning acrid at her nose, but underneath that it smells strongly of him. The scent of his sweat and cologne and gunmetal, and even the burning scent is a little bit Percy.

She feels more tears rising in the back of her throat, summoned from some unknown dimension of grief. Vex leans down and presses her forehead to Percy’s. She doesn’t quite dare press her lips to his. 

The ruined factory creaks around them, a dire warning of its instability. For a wild second Vex wonders what would happen if she stayed in this spot where Percy died. 

“We should go,” Pike says. “Before this whole place collapses.” 

“Kiki?” Vax asks. “Can you–?” 

Keyleth nods. Now that they’ve been to Glintshore, returning is simple. 

Grog reaches out his hands for Percy’s body. “I’ve got him,” he says, as he pulls Percy away from Vex. For a second she clutches futilely at him, before assenting. 

Vex stumbles her way out of the factory, unable to recall any of the details– only that Vax is holding her up and she has curled her fingers deep into the fabric of Percy’s coat and wrapped it around her like armor.

- always man enough to admit when he's wrong once he realizes it. Then he's apologizing with so many hugs and kisses like he's trying to make up for all the time you were fighting

- absoLUTELY knows how to do your hair. He has sisters, plus that time in college when he had long hair. Want a certain braid done? He can do it with his eyes closed.

- definitely is an absolute wizard with meat. Any cut, beef pork or chicken, he knows. He may not have ended up as a butcher, but he picked up some tricks along the way

- the best at cuddles

- you best believe that he has the absolute goofiest picture of you for your contact in his phone

- absolutely loves when you two are cuddling and you start to scratch his scalp. He practically purrs at it while he melts even further into you (if even possible)

- pronounces "fajita" wrong

- Elle woods stan

- has every line of legally blonde memorized and if youre quiet, you can hear him whisper "bend... And snap!" Almost every time he bends over to grab something

- definitely started to research fashion and cosmetology stuff after watching legally blonde, just in case

- played Portal and GLaDOS may or may not have rewritten his brain a bit (Wheatley too)

- definitely gets SO dramatic when he's sick. "Tell my story..." "Delete my browser history" type shit

- but once he's better he's repaying you for everything you had to take care of him. Even though you really didn't mind. "Let's go eat at that place you like" "I'm at the Bodega, you want any snacks?"
