“We’re baaaaack!” Callie sang into the vast cavern of Alterna. “And we brought the food!” She held up a single pizza box triumphantly. Behind her, Four, Eight, Neo, Acht, Shina, Elita, Elle, and all of Deep Cut balanced multiple boxes and bags each. Marie carried nothing but her parasol. They had enough to feed all of them for a week.

“We left you alone for five minutes, what happened?” Marie said with exasperation, looking down at Captain, who was trapped underneath a pile of small children, each of them giggling and screeching with glee as they clamored around her as if she were a jungle gym. Kai sat a few feet away, holding up their phone camera and rapidly taking pictures.

“I was outnumbered,” she stammered, defensively.

“They’re children. You’re trained in combat,” Marie retorted.

“Marie, are you encouraging Captain to beat up children?” Eight asked as he placed down the pizza boxes he’d been holding.

“Marie!” Shina gasped in mock accusation. 

“Hang on I’m not supposed to be the focus of this conversation.” Marie crossed her arms and the discussion shifted away from Captain, who was still very much stuck.

A little while earlier…

“Bye, try not to die,” Captain joked as she waved to the others before they left Alterna. They’d be back soon with lunch, but for now it was her job to watch the kids. On her own. One adult managing 7 children was a recipe for disaster. At least Kai was old enough to help her out a little. 

“You’re on your own for this one,” they said, as if reading her mind. “Good luck though, I’m rooting for you.”

“A helper would be better than a cheerleader, but I’ll take what I can get,” Captain said, exasperated. Something bumped into her leg. Cassie had run into Captain’s shin and was clinging onto it. 

“Oh here we go,” Kai laughed as if they were at the peak of a roller coaster. They pulled out their phone and began to record.

“What are you do—“ Captain began, but was cut off by Don launching himself onto her abdomen, clinging on with the same intensity as Cassie. He looked up at Captain and smiled, proud of himself. “Oh, I see where this is going,” Captain said, deadpan.

Each child rushed to her at once, excited laughter filling the air. She attempted to dodge them, while also doing everything in her power to stop them from getting hurt. As it turns out, trying not to harm your opponent is significantly harder than regular fighting, especially when you’re getting swarmed. 

Captain lost her balance and fell to the ground. She was able to do it in a way that she wouldn’t hurt herself, and thankfully didn’t crush any of the kids. This didn’t phase the small cephalopods in the least. They continued their barrage. Captain would have fought them off if it weren’t for Gibbous saying into her ear, “I love you, Auntie 3!” She gave up immediately.

“Don’t you dare post this online,” she grumbled to Kai.

“Too late.”

Thought I’d throw in here a quick refresher of who’s kid is who’s for anyone who doesn’t remember or doesn’t know:

Gibbous - Four and Acht’s son

Cassie - Marie and Shina’s daughter

Don - Shiver and Birch’s son (he also has a twin sister named Megan. She’s present in this story, just not explicitly mentioned.)

Kai - Birch’s adopted child, who was later adopted by Shiver as well

Callie and Elita along with Frye and Elle also have kids, but they don’t have names yet.

Pearlina

This is a very cute ship and it took me a while to ship it mostly cause I prefer the Squid Sisters as idols (well, Marie). After 100%ing the Octo Expansion, it’s hard not to look at Pearl and Marina and not see how in love they are and are obviously dating. Hopefully we get some more gay cephalopods in the DLC Side Order.

Agent 3/Agent 8

This ship is cute from what I’ve seen. Personally it’s not 100% my thing but that’s partly cause they’re the player characters and I didn’t think about them as a couple since they were technically me. The art and comics of them are cute tho’

Frye/Shiver

It’s funny how people immediately began to ship these two and it is adorable. Hopefully we get more of them on future DLC but at the same time we all know that Big Man is in on this pairing, both as a fan of those two as a couple and as them all as a throuple.
