star weaving
have you felt it?
you only need to reach out your fingertips
let them slip down the lines of transient aether
the threads of the universe are aligning, connecting
let your presence in the stardust of this moment
be crafted in the golden filagree of time and space
do you imagine yourself ensnared or caught
in this hourglass of wings and webs?
let your gaze be captivated in electric awe
by a designing force you can neither dismiss or resist
a whispering path you willingly lose yourself to treading
what has inspired and flooded your mind?
songs weave the universe and the listener
can only guess at the mists of heart and tears
space itself speaks only in light and years
music is a bounty of earth outside the vacuum
surrender yourself to be a instrument for the
presence of the cosmos to play within you
the events of the external world
fall into our bloodstream with data and sensation
choreography of the cycling spheres
unfolding like the limitless petals of the cerulean lotus
not even a lotus at all but a waterlily with heavenly scent
random seeming yet still in perfect design
life is bound in meaning and stories
wrapped in the cruelty and healing
of a blind and lonely hopeful sort of love
who burns the heart out of you
hate is the purest form of love
for nothing cultivates and transmutes
as the nemesis mirror with an unlucky break
I wish I knew which I felt
it changes like the flow of water and time
so I welcome the sunlight and warm breezes
the playful cheek of Zephyrus at my cheek
and trust I'll decide when divinity reveals itself
until then I'll listen to the wind

Divine Intervention: God Games (Lyric Thing)
Warnings: Gods, death, etc, divine intervention. -------- Archemoros: Divine intervention... Is that what you seek? To untie apprehensions that were placed on that sorcerer? You are playing with thunder for a man full of shame... But if he's worth the risk of going under... *Abelia stares at him with a bit of tension as her magic sparks.* Archemoros: Why not make it a game? Convince each of them that he ought to be released... And I'll release him. Abelia: Who's "them"? Archemoros: Neifion! *Neifion looks over and sits up straight as his wings open a bit.* Archemoros: Tynan... *Tynan tenses and looks at his brother is surprise.* Archemoros: Andromeda! *Andromeda sits up and sighs since the main gods aren't involved here.* Archemoros: Myrsky... *Myrsky looks over at his brother with his wings closed.* Archemoros: Boronia! *Boronia glances up as she lounges in her chair, resting her chin on her palm.* Archemoros: And me... What do you say? Neifion: Great! Tynan: Very well... Andromeda, groaning: Ehh... Myrsky: Alright! Boronia, sighing: Groovy. Abelia: Bring it. -----

Writeblr Re(rere)intro that's a year late!
Hi! I'm Pax, and I write Big Books that keep getting darker and darker in subject matter 🎉🎉
Basics about me:
he/him or they/them, Mid 20s
Favorite genres: Fantasy, SciFi, Horror, Mystery
Favorite authors: N. K. Jemisin, Tamsyn Muir, Brandon Sanderson, Pierce Brown, Samantha Shannon
Other things I do: Digital art (including commissions!), Twitch streams (usually art or writing sprints, occasionally video games), digital art assets and fonts (PWYW on Ko-Fi!)
Basics about my WIPs:
THE MILLENNIUM SAGA
High fantasy/Steampunk epic, 8 books planned. Book one: Firebreathers (160k words; ~700 pages) Book two: Echoseers (148k words; ~600 pages) Book three: Goddess-Touched (15k as of posting; 3rd attempt at drafting) First person, Multi POV What starts as a simple rebellion against their local Citylord becomes a flight - and fight - for their lives, as Ember Timber, their family, and their newfound friends are forced to flee overseas from the vengeful general who will stop at nothing to earn her Eternal King's favor, and will in fact relish hunting her own son and grandchildren for sport. But along the way, the crew learns that the Eternal King's immortality was not granted in return for his success as the Chosen One long ago, as they have always been told - and the sacrifice for such a thing is not only paid dearly in blood, but on its way to being repeated.
WHISPERS
Dark fantasy Noir. Currently with beta readers. 172k words; ~750 pages. First person, Dual POV. Set in the same world as Millennium Saga, ~5 years after the series concludes. Marika Swiftfoot owes her life to the Shadow of Fowden, the sorceress leader of a terroristic crime syndicate based in the north pole. When the man she once loved finally comes to collect on that life debt ten years later, she plans to kill him the moment it's safe. Too soon, after all, and everyone else she's ever loved will join him beyond the Veil. But hate isn't the only feeling that lingers between them, and when they're offered another way out of their debts, the lives of a few innocents looks like a bargain compared to the life of cruelty ahead of them. Lorelei has been hunting the Shadow for twenty years, and looking for the sister who disappeared for thirty. And here, names are legacies: she wants to earn Hopebringer before her legs give out for good, to erase the stain her father's name has left with Vowbreaker. And for that, she sees one way forward: she must never break her vows, no matter how small. The Shadow must die, and the Whispers with her. Her sister must be found, even if all that's left to find is a story. She must find answers for every case she takes on, even if she doesn't know so much as the name of the man who's gone missing.
THE LOST
Space opera webcomic. First scene fully illustrated; will release once the first chapter is complete, a week after Patrons receive the final scene. In the far reaches of space, the term "Media Empire" is quite literal; the Watchers have extended their influence throughout their galaxy filament with the help of their beloved Coliseum, and the Champion therein. After all, having a shapeshifter capable of replicating anything leads to some gruesome, spectacular fights, made all the more heartrending when they are the last of their kind, trapped in the ship molded from their kin's corpse. But while the Watchers have total control over what happens in the pit, they cannot predict the audience. And they certainly cannot predict the malfunctioning psychic implant of an assassin in the front row, and the loss of both opponents and a long-time prisoner of war to the escape.
I also post art of all of these semi-regularly, including in-progress stuff, as well as excerpts and rambling braindumps!! I'm also a huge worldbuilding nerd, so if you ever want to learn more about the worlds I'm writing, don't be afraid to ask!! I love talking about them :D
Boosts are appreciated <3 tell me about your own WIPs in the tags/replies/wherever!! I love learning about what people are working on!

Okay, last little list here:
Bells Hells Legendary Pokémon
I already gave everyone a minimum of one Legendary in the original team post, so here's the list of all the Legendaries I think fit each member of Bells Hells (the Legendaries from the set teams will be included)
Chetney
Zacian- look, it's a wolf that's set to shank a bitch. Tell me that doesn't vibe with Chetney
Zeraora (Shiny)- kind of were-beast in shape. Shiny to match Chetney's own white fur
Kubfu/Urshifu (Single Strike Style)- more were-fuzzies for Chet. Single Strike Style because Chetney's the type to one-and-done it if he can
Okidogi- werewolf-ish Pokémon for Chet!
Orym
Shaymin- more friendly flowers for Orym, and the Sky Form is a little fighter like him
Virizion- grass blade Pokémon who protects others
Keldeo (Resolute form, Shiny)- it's a little sword guy (pony) like Orym. And shiny makes it green and Resolute Form because Orym knows what he wants
Kartana- a little blade guy for a little swordsman
Zacian- noble sword Pokémon for a noble little swordsman
Zamazenta- noble shield Pokémon for a protective little guy with a treasured shield
Fearne
Moltres- a burning phoenix Pokémon that Fearne worries will take on the Galarian Form that her Bad Future Self had
Entei- fluffy fire dog Pokémon
Celebi- little onion fairy and that travels through time for a fey that lived in wonky time
Cresselia- Fearne is lightly Ruidusborn and this is a gentler moon Pokémon
Reshiram- fiery semi-wolf Pokémon for our fire faun
Xerneas- it's a Fairy-type, deer are kind of close to goats, and Xerneas has a minor moon motif
Zarude- grass monkey for the druid with a monkey
Munkidori- another monkey to mother for Fearne
Imogen
Spectrier- Legendary horse that comes in Imogen's two colors: purple and red
Raikou- it's a thunderstorm Pokémon for a gal who claims she is the storm
Deoxys- an alien Pokémon for a girl connected to alien moon people
Cresselia (Shiny)- Imogen gets moon Pokémon. Shiny for purple coloration
Thundurus (Shiny)- another lightning Pokémon for our electric sorceress. Shiny for purple coloration
Keldeo (Ordinary Form)- little unicorn for the horse girl
Lunala (Shiny)- literal red moon Pokémon when shiny
Regieleki- more eletrical Pokémon for Imogen
Glastrier- another horse Pokémon for the horse girl
Laudna
Marshadow- it's shadow theme matches Laudna's Shadow Sorcerery. And Laudna does spend time trying to copy the Ladies of Whitestone…
Giratina- considering Delilah took her soul to a reverse/shadow realm, and that's the kind of place Giratina is from, it seems a good fit
Darkrai- a nightmare Pokémon for a woman who loves nightmares
Yveltal- a Pokémon that absorbs life essences, much like Hunger of the Shadows does the same for Laudna and Delilah
Calyrex- because it's the Pokémon that can bring Glastrier and Spectrier under control, much like how Laudna is a great deal of Imogen's control
FCG
Magearna- a man-made clockwork Legendary for the Aeormaton
Genesect- it's ancient and modified by people to be a killing machine, just like FCG
Miraidon- robot-like Legendary for the robit
Ashton
Cosmog- suddenly appeared after Ashton got galaxy-brained because it's a little galaxy guy from another (higher?) dimension. It's Ashton's innocent baby who doesn't know how to stay in the damn pokéball and not reveal his soft side
Regigigas- this is the big titan Pokémon, hauling continents and shit. Not to mention that the Slow Start ability reflects how Ashton had a titan shard for twenty years before they really got it to do anything spectacular
Regirock- if Ashton gets one Regi, it's Regigigas for titan shit. But Regirock is definitely Earth Elemental vibes and so also goes to Ashton
Dialga- one of Ashton's dunamancy domains is time and this is a Pokémon lord of time
Palkia- one of Ashton's dunamancy domains it space and this is a Pokémon lord of space
Terrakion (Shiny)- it's tough and it doesn't like bullies, sounds pretty Ashton to me. Shiny because I think Ashton would like the pop of the shiny palette
Zygarde- Ashton is sort of split into a million pieces by the half-beacon brain, and Zygarde's 100% Form is kind of titan-ish
Diancie- another crystal and rock Pokémon. Also goes a little bit with the Empress of Earth vibes, or rather the Empress's heir
Hoopa- a Pokémon that switches between a Confined and Unbound Form, kind of like Ashton's normal and demi-titan modes. And it messes around with space like Ashton. Also, normal genasi are sometimes/often sired by elemental genies and this Pokémon is based on genies
Koraidon- ancient earth splitter for the earth titan's blood (also mirrors FCG having Miraidon)

Deplorably Devoted to You
HEARTBREAKING: You’re the Worst Person You Know
You're an accomplished event planner- weddings, baby showers, moon abductions- you do it all. In fact, you're so good that your smoking hot eldritch boss Balthazar Grivus just made you his partner at your firm. It’s finally your chance to change the future of evil event planning. The late nights alone perfecting confetti-spewing bear traps as Barry’s apprentice are over, and now your schedule and heart are wide open.
Nefarious plots abound, and you have a bevy of romantic and professional interests to pursue: plan a wedding anniversary, push a rebrand of a struggling majority, prepare a getaway ship, and promote the fortress-warming party of the millennia.
The Sorceress
The sorceress is a proud, luxury-loving lady of the ‘eye for an eye’ persuasion. Will you help her achieve vengeance and social satisfaction? Or will you disappoint her and doom yourself to eternal sleep?
The Gunslinger
Gene is a creation of his time- to be specific, the 1800s. In and out of jail for various ill-conceived crimes, he is now more comfortable in a prison cell than out of it. Will his zest for life and the finer points of dynamite light up your life, or blow your career out of the water?
The Florist
Your florist is a gentle, caring person with a heart of gold and a devastating fear of dogs. Their plant expertise, professionalism, contacts dedicated to violating the laws of nature, and tendency to not ask questions make them indispensable to you. But will you bloom together, or will they be uprooted?
The Orc
She is a union president, a go-getter, and forklift certified.  She’s also built like a brick house. Can you help her with the image rebrand that her people desperately need in the face of a global morality shift, or will you get eaten alive?
The Space Pirate
They’re fun. They’re spontaneous. And they’re not a felon in this galaxy yet. Their new ship is almost ready for takeoff- is their ship’s maiden voyage destined to shine brightly, or doomed to crumble into stardust?
The Super Hero
He’s big. He’s strong. He’s probably late for his next client at the gym. He’s as rough as the stones he loves to hunt for in his free time, and tougher than most of the criminals he brings in on late nights.
Your world and career are on the brink- but of success, or failure?
Can you have it all while throwing the best worst events of the season and getting the dark lord to notice you?

DotS: Knights of the Stars file #03 — Sir Galacta Knight
Tumblr media
Name: Sir Galacta Asteri of the Stars Age: 528 yrs ( Adult Dream Puff) Rank: 5th Star Knight General ; Puff Chieftain
The greatest, most powerful warrior of the Galaxy; Galacta is nothing short of a force to be reckoned with! He's well above average size for a Dream Puff, and is frighteningly agile in the air despite his weight.
In contrast to his ferocity in a fight, Galacta has a rather warm and jolly disposition. He's a poster child for Dream Puffs, as someone who can find and bring joy even in the darkest of times. With his hearty, contagious laughter, it's hard to wear a frown around this plump, friendly feathery Puffball!
Behind the mask, he has bright purple eyes and a comedically oversized snaggletooth left fang. His mask visor emphasizes the red in his eye color, to help him achieve a more intimidating appearance since he's terribly fluffy and cute. Surprisingly, he has a distinguished Southern accent. When he speaks, one could practically hear gravy poured on a biscuit and a slice of pecan pie being served on your plate. He embodies southern hospitality well in addition, taking strongly after his mother who had a hobby as a starship mechanic.
Tumblr media
"A Puff of purest pink shall arise from the ashes, and lay waste to the Warlock and fiendish foes."
Sir Galacta Asteri is said to be the reincarnated, prophesied hero of legend. Following his fall in a forgotten age (back when he was known as the "Aeon Hero") due to a cataclysm which changed his home world forever, he was predicted to return by an oracle of yore. However, his wandering soul was ensnared by the warlock Nightmare, who held him captive for thousands of years. The foul monster maker knew Galacta's power would be more than enough to slay him, and so deeply feared him.
It wasn't until a little over 500 years ago, a talented, brave, and somewhat cocky young Sorceress snuck into Nightmare's base and rescued Galacta from the evil wizard's grasp. She then set him free on the Puff Homeworld; thus the Galacta we know today came to be. He grew to change the world forever, and change his fate.
He was often regarded as "The Chosen" due to centuries of passed down legends and whispered hopes of his coming, and so Galacta was burdened with the fate of the Galaxy since a young age. Despite his incredible talents —as one would expect from someone supposedly reincarnated—, he often felt that his efforts weren't good enough for the world, and silently strove to become better.
Tumblr media
Galacta was an only child, so those he refers to as his brothers or sisters are his closest childhood friends; however, that doesn't change the fact that they're close family to one another! These surrogate siblings of his are Sir Meta Knight, Sir Antwan, and Eave. He especially has a tight bond with Eave, who also shares his secrets. These siblings of his, and anyone he deems family, all lovingly refer to him as "Gally".
Coming to knighthood at the ripe age of 18, Galacta soared up the ranks until eventually replacing his mentor, Sir Eavansol, as Knight General of the Star Warriors. In this position, his talent for strategy flourished as he expertly led their armies into great success. With his pure power and might, he spear-headed every battle he attended. He was also responsible for a plethora of things outside of combat, conducting meetings with other Generals of other armies, and maintaining a healthy relationship between the Star Warriors and GSA.
During the war days, Galacta earned the call sign "Muffin Man" due to his somewhat plump form, which quickly became a useful and discreet way to summon him. It is true, however, that Gally is a bit overweight for a Puff, as evidenced strongly when he sits down. He "muffins" out a bit and looks more like a large pink dumpling than a nice round ball. Hence the nickname! He's a bit insecure and self conscious about it, but can't really do anything about it either.
Being a high-power Puff requires a lot of energy, and being in the high-stress position he was in the Star Warriors, he indulged himself often on his favorite sweet treat: strawberry cheesecakes. It became a rather terrible habit (for which Eave got on his case often) to the point where he had a hidden fridge in his office. Everyone knew about it, which he was hilariously unaware of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout Galacta's youth, he was trained to carry the torch as Puff Chief, leader of all the Dream Puffs of Homeworld, as he knew he wouldn't serve the Star Warriors forever. He eventually took on the mantle as Chief following the fall of Homeworld, and performed a stressful, yet delicate balancing act of leading both his people and the Star Warriors.
Galacta's lived a long life filled with responsibilities and expectations piled onto his plate, and though he succeeded in much throughout his career, he struggled silently and hid behind his own sweet snaggletooth smile. Meta Knight had to learn from someone, after all, and boy is Galacta a master at hiding himself in plain sight. Though not literally— stealth has never been his strong suit.
Tumblr media
Many theorize that due to immense amount of pressure, the stress, perhaps the loss of Homeworld and therefore many loved ones including his right hand woman and lieutenant, Mei, or perhaps more. A few, including Sir Antwan, believe that unknown, yet dubious events caused the great and powerful Sir Galacta Knight to fall into a pit of madness.
Eyes reduced to crimson pin-pricks, wild and broken, it was clear that their beloved brother had at last broke and lost his mind. T'was that fateful day, nearly 300 years ago, where the winged warrior was sealed away in crystal by the last high mages of an old kingdom. He changed the world, but he could not change his fate.
According to Sir Meta Knight, his sister Eave was present for this, and swears down to the tips of her wings that there's more to this mystery. However, her investigations were never concluded, for she vanished some few years later.
Now, by a certain lone knight's overly ambitious actions, Galacta Knight is freed once more, and free to wreak his wrath upon the Galaxy. Though one could only wonder how one as sweet and gentle as he could be reduced to a heartless, cold, killing machine?
Perhaps Eave knew something our heroes could only hope to discover without her...

Opinions on the novel and novella categories excluding Elder Race?
Okay so, uh, 3 months late finally answering this (sorry - but I DID read Elder Race in the meantime!)
So, novels-
A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine The central metaphor of how an empire can only understand something by consuming/assimilating it into itself was imo well-done, one of the better uses of a hive mind alien I've seen in a while. Mahit and (especially) Three Seagrass continue to be delightful. The whole palace drama plot in the City leaned a biiiiiit too close to 'the Empress is just and good! Sadly scheming ministers and self-interested officials have attempted to mislead her for their own ends' for my tastes, which absolutely made me start rooting for scheming vizer guy out of spite. Still kind of confused what happened to the Judiciary Minister who vanished 2/3 of the way into the first book without comment. Excellent read, would recommend
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers Absolutely my favorite thing Chambers has written, but that is a very low bar. There were a few pages of actual interpersonal conflict that wasn't just a silly misunderstanding! (Even if they had apologized and agreed to disagree by the end of the next chapter). In principle I approve of any sci fi with no human characters in major roles. Aeleon demography continues to give me a headache (how do you spend so much time on worldbuilding and just mess up the basic math?) - though honestly Pei's whole conflict over the societal expectation to have a kid would have had a bit more tension/drama to it in a setting where her species was legitimately endangered and at risk of extinction (the sheer angst potential!) Anyway, yeah, well-executed but Not For Me.
Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki I did, uh, not much like this book. In a 'spent a couple hours cathartically ranting about it on discord after finishing it' sort of way. The central romance didn't work, every character arc was perfectly predictable, the whole incessantly hammered home bit about the magic and wonder of home-cooked food just makes me want to gag, I can kind of see what Aoki was going for with the sci fi half of the worldbuilding but it just didn't work at all, and so on. Still not entirely sure what to make of the fact that if you did the 0.5 degree shift necessary to turn the finale into a Christian morality play the quirky alien family plays an identical structural role to where the angels would be. The cursed/demonic-violin repair lady was fun, though.
A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark This was fun! Nothing hugely ground-breaking and extremely trope-ey, but in a good way? Like the process was clearly 'buddy cop story in into steampunk urban fantasy Cairo' more than anything that evolved naturally out of the characters or setting. But like, eh? The finale involved a giant robot controlled by enslaved ifrit and a mad sorceress trying to restore the British empire attacking the city, nuance and subtlety clearly weren't the goals here. The central mystery was barely a mystery, though. You could pick out the villain by the end of the first act like three or four different ways. Still, yeah, great time. Very pulpy.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir If you don't know that this is by the The Martian guy going in, it will be extremely clear by the time you're 50 pages in. It's a writing style with a real personality bleeding through - if you don't like it, the book will I'm sure be torture. But anyway, I'm a sucker for first contact stories and properly weird but still sympathetic and agentic aliens, and that's the beating heart of the story so I mean, of course I enjoyed it. The science also all seemed plausible/not-obvious-bullshit to me, and Weir did a really good job of getting tension and drama without ever making anyone a villain, with all the threats being faced being natural/environmental. Fun read, assuming very high tolerance for technobabble and also magic amnesia that you don't apply anywhere near the standards of the rest of the books' science to.
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan I mean the whole premise of 'mythic/low-fantasy retelling of the founding of the Ming dynasty but with lesbians' feels like what you'd get if you simmered down my reading consumption of the last year or two and poured out the reduction. So like, yeah, of course I liked it! Probably would have been my vote for winner, though not at all sad that Desolation got it instead. As a character type, I really, really love the whole 'arranges everything to work out perfectly through desperate, furious scheming, then absolutely never breaks character and insists it must be providence and they're but a simple monk/scholar/whatever" so Zhu's whole bit there was just catnip to me. The whole melodrama in the mongol court was great, too. And how can you not love a book that ends with the heroine murdering the messiah in cold blood?
novellas-
Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire The only other thing I'd read by McGuire before this was Middlegame, which may have given me unrealistic expectations but, like, this was fine? Or, like, I get the sense that this is very much a YA/Middle-grade book, insofar as it really feels like the literary equivalent of a tv special you'd watch with your kid niece and nephew because hey, it's not painful for you or anything? Really funny that this exists entirely independently of the apparently-a-real-thing cartoon Centaurworld, though.
Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky This was fun classic sci fi. Like, really classic - I kind of thought 'fantasy setting that's secretly a post-apocalyptic sci fi setting where all the 'magic' and 'monsters' are just poorly understood hypertech' went of fashion with the millennium. Anyway I adore things that play with POV and have different people see the same events and process/interpret them radically differently, so the whole book was catnip that way, and it managed to authentically feel like just a small slice of a vaster, weirder universe, and both deuteragonists really work for me. Don't have a solid pick for my preferred winner but this is one of the two I'm torn between.
Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard First and so far only thing by de Bodard I've read, which I should probably fix given how big a name she is. Anyway, this was fun! Nothing too groundbreaking, but that is 100% down to my reading habits rather than, like, 'lesbian court drama in a fantasy analogue of an asian country under threat of colonization' is an over-filled niche, or anything (really the only surprising thing was that I hadn't read this already).
The Past Is Red by Catherynne M. Valente The other one I might have voted for. On the level of stories she's a bit hit and miss but on the sentence-to-sentence and paragraph-to-paragraph levels Valente is seriously one of my favorite writers working, and this was no exception. Just an absolute delight to read. Also, 'post-apocalyptic magical realism on the city-sized garbage heap floating in the ocean populated by a culture of survivors after the world drowned' is just a great premise. And my shriveled husk of a soul appreciates just committing to the character study and the ruin and the elegy without giving into the urge to make a grand redemptive quest of it all.
A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers I, uh, liked this significantly less than Galaxy and the Ground Within. Utopias are basically necessarily didactic but, like, you really don't have to lean all the way into literally having the heart of the story be conversations between the protagonist and a sacred and innocent alien whose always correct about everything. Also the whole 'we 100% could be immortal but we chose not to because, like, nature or something. Aren't we so amazing?' thing with the robots is bullshit. Which, combined with the entire aesthetic of the world just left be feeling peevish and asking questions which really weren't the point (Where are the mines? The foundries? You can't make solar panels or modern antibiotics in a basement workshop! And you sure as hell can't cobble together and repair fully mobile and sapient robots in a cave with a box of scraps.)
A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow So it's not that this was bad, exactly. But, like, I feel like it should have come out sometime in the '90s? (Okay without the explicitly gay bits but that's a matter of a few sentences tbh). Like, the deadline for metafictional feminist retellings of classic fairtails being genuinely novel or subversive was sometime before Disney got in on the game, sorry. Also, like, I'm sure it's just down to me being a weird morbid kid, but the whole shocking revelation about how fucked up the original Sleeping Beauty myth is was, like, something I knew before I hit puberty? Only other thing of Harrow's I've read was the Ten Thousand Door's of January and I'm really, really disappointed comparing them, honestly. (Also, as a general rule I dislike anything where it's very clear whether you're supposed to like or trust a character from the scene they're introduced and this is never wrong)
In other categories L’Esprit de L’Escalier should obviously have one novelette, "Where Oaken Hearts Do Gather" short story, Terra Ignota series, and Monstress comic, based off the foolproof criteria of 'those are the ones I've read'

Bracket G Round 1
Poll 16
Cherish (@kindledrose) vs. Royale (@ittybluejay)
415. Cherish (@kindledrose)
he/him
• this boy. THIS BOY. mans is one of those flirty vigilante-type characters you know how it is. canonically ace tho (he is just in it for the bit and we love him for it <3 terribly flustered whenever anyone actually tries to reply to him. good at cracking one-liners and absolutely nothing else. zero thoughts in his head)
• his name is literally cherish. nicknames include cher. cheri. cheryl if someone's trying to piss him off. various cherry-flavored drinks and desserts because his friends are dorks.
• he's also lonely as heck!! wow how relatable am i right!! he has like two friends one of which he believes dead for a while (she's not) (it gets better for him of course but it does take a while)
• absolutely HATES taking off his mask. never does in front of anyone. for a while it was a ""hmm yeah nope not doing that"" thing but now it's a ""if i take this off everyone will know and try to kill me and it will suck"" thing
• super galaxy-coded his whole shtick revolves around stars it's awesome
• used to be a fnaf oc. somehow lmao. he was like one of those mop robots except homicidal. that was a while ago and now he's just a human guy but i still think that part's funny
• has a whole entire story (lives in a post-apocalyptic city! everyone wears masks!) but i'll save that for another post
• super beloved. please appreciate my little guy :]c
the only design part i will note is that he has velcro sneakers because he does not know how to tie shoelaces <3
416. Royale (@ittybluejay)
He/him
Royale is an awful, Irish wizard guy. His real name is Darien, but he does not use that name at all now. He was raised by his awful sorceress mother, who treated him awfully, and he had no friends until he became an adult. He eventually made friends with a man named Toal.
The two of them went to a temple to undertake some trials in order to become Chosen (a whole subclass of people in this context). Royale was under the impression that only one of them could become Chosen, so obviously he tried to backstab his friend. This was the wrong choice, and the being running the trials cut his arm off as punishment.
Toal became Chosen, and Royale ran away from home after realizing he had no reason to stay there. Royale later joined a cult, changed his name, and did many nefarious spells to extend his lifespan.
Then like 800 years later, he met Toal again (Toal is a skeleton now). He pretended to be Toal’s friend again, but it was a ploy to get Toal to help him with his goal. Royale’s new goal was to become the vessel for a god, he ends up succeeding, but then getting his butt kicked anyways and the god leaves him.
The god did still grant the immortality he wanted, so now he’s kinda depressed and can’t die. He’s pathetic, but very magically powerful. Also he cursed a guy to make him into a greed-based werewolf one time. Very petty guy.

A thought that sat in the back of my mind when I was watching episode 6 is that Peridea is dead, and not just in a narrative sense.
We spent the last few episodes of episode 5 building suspense and intrigue about the new galaxy (the purrgil themselves are really creative and look amazing in live action). When travelling to get there, hyperspace lines blend into every colour of the rainbow, creating a psychdelic dreamscape of sorts.
But when we finally get to the new galaxy, it's exactly what we've seen before. It's not wondrous or particularly imaginative, just cold grey stone as far as the eye can see.
And I'm being really hypocritical because there were some really cool statues littered around the scene when we first see Peridea and the sheer scale of the Chimaera against this backdrop does look nice. But I don't think the show really does anything with these designs.
As described by the characters themselves, Peridea is an ancient witch kingdom where great sorceresses dwelled before time was measured. Maybe the cold grey stone concept worked in theory, a reminder of how this place is abandoned, but it can't help but feel stagnant to me. The set design and feel of this new place that was meant to be a landmark moment in the lore of Star Wars just feels like a generic sci-fi setting.
I know this isn't that big of a deal and I'm just being pedantic but I feel like that's a job requirement of being a Star Wars fan these days lol.
