Every time you smile at me.
One moment more into infinity.
In a life supposed to be finite.
Presenza
Cada vez que me dás un sorriso
un intre máis no infinito.
nunha vida disque… finita.

What do you think? https://youtu.be/WW4D-1Sa-r8?si=8peyR-RkNAeYOynL
Kaixo anon!
Somehow I thought somebody would ask me about that video? I watched it yesterday.
youtube
I'm suscribed to Linguriosa's channel and have learnt very much from her videos, that are generally well researched and explained.
This one isn't different. She tries to be somehow aseptic and focus on the laws that attacked Galego, Català, and Euskara during the dictatorship without too much assessment or analysis beyond that.
For instance, she says that the first ikastola (school 100% in Basque) was opened in Donosti in 1954 but fails to mention it was actually a clandestine school. She also fails to add context when she says thatin the 60s - the so-called "liberal phase" of the dictatorship" - magazines and records could be edited in Basque.
By that time, 23 years - a whole generation - of repression and punishment and making people ashamed had passed; that thousands of Basque-speakers had left their homes (27,000 to Cuba and +7,000 to France, just in 1937, and we're talking about the registered immigrants; it's calculated that half the people that escaped Spain did it illegaly);
Literally millions of people from the rural communities of Spain moved to the industrial capitals - especially Barcelona and Bilbo -, which made the few Basque speakers remaining not to interact in Basque since maaaaaaaany citizens were now from outside EH and Spanish, even though not over imposed by law as before, was very much imposed by the situation;
This is to say that by the 60s when Franco allegedly changed his mind and was so gracious as to let Basque people have content in our language, Basque was a TINY language on the verge of death. Unimportant. Incidental. Completely safe.
Then I see comments below Linguriosa's video saying something like "I am Basque and I was always taught that Basque was super banned under Franco and now I see that I was fed propaganda" and my heart breaks. Because this is exactly what happens when you fail to give as much context as possible to actually let people understand the whole picture and story.
Because, really, if you know nothing about this and watch the video, you actually get the idea that Franco became more tolerant regarding the minoritized languages in Spain as he got older and what he was actually doing was just laughing at our people: see? you have freedom to use your language now, too bad nobody can speak it anymore!
I'd love to know the takes of my friends @useless-catalanfacts and @jar-jar-ate on this, if they oblige! ^_^

I've been using a Galician database to find pictures of libraries for my "Libraries Around the World" posts and it really amuses me how much Galician is a mix of Portuguese and Spanish (aka Castilian) smooshed together.
For context, the website I'm using is 100% in Galician, and never have I ever studied Galician in my life, but I'm still able to understand everything perfectly because I know Portuguese and Spanish.
I also love how much Galician uses the letter X. An A+ language if ever there was one. It's delightful.

Na procura de mutuals!
Ola, son Gema! Teño 27 anos e son galega. Adoito postear en galego, nglés e castelán e me movo en círculos bastante queer (son NB e BI).
Volvín recentemente a Tumblr (onte) e me gustaría atopar mutuals :3
Estes son algunhas das miñas afeccións e gustos (sen orde concreta):
HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts)
Manga/Anime (Frieren, Nana, JJBA, Dungeon Meshi, FMA, Sailor Moon, Pichi Pichi Pitch, Evangelion, JJK, Berserk, Beastars, Aggrestsuko, Dorohedoro...)
Videoxogos (RDR2, Dragon Age, LoL, Stardew Valley, Skyrim, Os Sims, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Spyro...)

Fear.
I succumb to fear. My words get lost. Your absence takes me to already lived, already drunk, times where you had left me. Your abscence, just to imagine it, is not living.
Medos.
Pódeme o medo a perderte secuéstrame as palabras a tua ausencia; lévame a tempos xa vividos e bebidos onde me atopaches a tua ausencia; somente imaxinala... non vivir é.

I'm sharing a petition to have Galician words being accepted in the EU.
Galician is already spoken in the European parliament through the Portuguese interpreters, however the Galician politicians try to use the Portuguese from Portugal dialect since it's the one accepted. This petition exists so that even though they're still considered the same language as Portuguese they get to have their language variety recognised, similar to German from Germany and German from Austria.
This is the English version. Here's the Galician-portuguese version, that has more information and a Q&A.

Okay folks, want to explore Galizan music? Then
Start here.
Nowadays there's galizan music in every fashion and style! Thank tradition and community spaces for the good health of our musical industry, ever growing! Here you have some examples:
Mondra
Electronic folk
Lately, a lot of galizan artists inspired their works on Galizan traditional music. They're usually put under the tag 'tradi'. They're mostly queer friendly or openly queer artists who knows how to dance, sing and play traditional instruments. But this guy? What this guy does is sickk!! Unique style and a great live performance!
youtube
Check out also this recent single... are you thirsty now?
Caamaño & Ameixeiras
Folk
More stuff on the folkie side. Give this two a violin and an accordion and wait for the magic to happen!
youtube
De Ninghures
Folk
This is my most recent discovery on the galizian folk scene. They originated in a foliada, that is, a kind of traditional party and jam session in which everybody bring their instruments and voices and improvise.
youtube
These three bands, Mondra, Caamaño & Ameixeiras and De Ninghures, are my absolute top three of nowadays galizian folk music. Enjoy!
Tanxugueiras
Folk pop
Everybody knows the Tanxugueiras here, even little kids sing their songs in school. They were a musical phenomenon, one of the bands that started the most recent folk fever a few years ago. They almost got to Eurovision! But Spanish tv didn't want an indigenous nation to represent the whole state and opposed this. SHAME
I like their first album more than the second, but the second has MIDAS.
youtube
(Footnote here: the gorgeous man in the bathtub is Xisco Feijóo, he's a great dancer singer and tambourine player, check him too!)
Baiuca
Techno folk
This man plays with old recordings like dolls. I really like the vocals of Lilaina, frequent collaborators of his. BUT for me the fucking best song he made is not technically in galizan, but in asturian language, it's a collab with asturian artist Rodrigo Cuevas. Check this!
youtube
That was tradi. Now for some punk!
Grande Amore
Techno punk (sorta???)
This guy's lyrics are so FUCKING relatable when you're a late millenial living in Galiza. The ANGST, the DESPAIR. Always with an eye on partiying. And so fuckin funny! Check out this song and also his best known single as well: Esta pena que a veces teño. And also maybe his last album. Go in peace now!
youtube
Os Vacalouras
Punk with funny lyrics and strong local identity
I've already talk about them in Galizan. They were my best 2024 summer discovery!
youtube
Familia Caamagno
Punk
This people took a righ-wing pop hymn and made a cover, with a music video full of communist parafernalia. RESPECT!
youtube
Expect more parts to this post! There's still classical music, jazz, rap, pop... and that's only the beggining, because I also want to go back in time and discuss the Galizan Folk Renaissance and such. Stay tuned!!
