The Hijab did not originate from Islam nor are they oppressive when women have the freedom to choose when they wear one.

Alicent based on this post about Modest!Alicent by @dirtytransmasc
Details under the cut
-I was obsessed with the veiled pieces that OP mentioned and I loved the image of her in gold veils that looked like she was dripping in gold.
- The veils are based on Catholic veils (specifically and 4), medieval head coverings like ones worn in Ophelia 2018 and wimples (2 and 6), Star Wars (5), and the Tudor period (7). Most of them are sheer because one, I couldn’t figure out how to wrap them around her head without her looking like a blob of color and when it did look okay she looked like she was wearing a hijab and it felt too appropriative to draw on Alicent. This is also why her hair is visible in most of them but in practice she would cover them with thicker fabric.
- Alicent wears long billowing sleeves with heavy skirts. OP said that Alicent would wear dresses that conceal her figure which I tried to maintain but some have a shapelier silhouette as it looked better with my art style. I hope one day I will be able to draw modest clothing without making someone look like a blob but I’m not there yet.
- Dress 1 is inspired by the series Isabel 2011, which from what I’ve seen has some nice costumes. It also gave me a good base for something historical and modest but still luxurious.
- The second is based on Lady Macbeth and Ophelia in the Ophelia movie. I debated on adding braids but I think Alicent would’ve worn them. They’re neat, mature, and somewhat conservative hairstyle while also giving her an opportunity to wear more accessories which is expected of her as a queen. I know OP said modest but irl royalty had to wear extravagant clothes to prove their status and with the pressure of civil war and being the second wife, Alicent would certainly wear luxurious jewelry while staying simple compared to the rest of the Targaryens. The beads are Targ inspired as she would also need to embrace Valeryian styles to stay in Viserys’s favor.
- This side view of Alicent has the deepest neckline because that is what worked best for a side view. I also noticed Catholic veils tended to have patterns so I added simple gold flowers. The dress is medieval based.
- What sparked my artistic interest was OP’s descriptions of the veils so I had to do a dedicated work with a veil in the spotlight. In the original post, it was mentioned that Alicent would wear shawls with tapestry like designs. I couldn’t think of anything that would look good with fabric folds and creases but on a lace veil? I could definitely do that. Tbh it’s not my favorite design (Helaena’s was my favorite) but I think it represents Alicent’s loyalties pretty well. I’m personally pleased with how the dragons and tower came out.
- I don’t care about Star Wars but some of Padme’s outfits have screamed Alicent to me since the beginning. The golden lace veil with pearls is the centerpiece so her dress is much more toned down.
- This is again based on Ophelia’s costuming and on OP saying Alicent appears to be dripping in gold wearing golden veils. I added jewelry shaped like the Hightower sigil with green gems decorating it.
- OP mentioned shawls with tassels and patterns so I had to add them onto the last dress. Well, I had fur instead of tassels but the statement still stands. I also tried to make the veil based on Spanish mantillas but it never turned out correct so I kept it simple. The dress is a mix of Alexander McQueen Fall 2011 and the Tudors era.

(26/54) “Mitra was the oldest in her class, but all the younger students loved her. She knew all the latest in culture: the movies, the magazines, the trends. Every night when I came home she’d always be up listening to tapes. The seventies were a golden age of music in Iran: Googoosh, Delkash, Marzieh, Aslani, Hayedeh, Shajarian. And Mitra had many of their songs memorized. She was a great student. During the second year of her program she was chosen to study under one of Iran’s top Shahnameh professors. It was the closest she ever came to understanding me. One day in class the professor told her that every society needs a few idealists, because they’re the ones who move society forward. Often I would help with her homework, and it helped me view Shahnameh from a more academic perspective. Ferdowsi uses the mythic kings as placeholders for periods in Iran’s history. When he writes that Jamshid ruled for seven hundred years, he means that it was a time of great freedom and culture in Iran. But when Jamshid loses touch with the people, a period of terror and oppression follows. The throne is taken over by the Serpent King Zahak. In Shahnameh Zahak is the embodiment of darkness. He cares only for his own power. Two giant snakes grow out of his shoulders. The devil promises Zahak that he will stay in power, as long as he feeds the snakes with the brains of young Iranians. It had to be the brains of the young. Because young people are the ones with energy. They’re the ones with courage. They’re the ones that can overthrow the regime. One day twenty students at Mitra’s school entered the cafeteria wearing masks, and began to forcibly separate men and women. They physically assaulted any women who were wearing make-up or Western clothing. On the way out they scattered pamphlets on the floor, warning that all women should adhere to Islamic guidelines, or there will be consequences. An atmosphere of fear began to spread across the campus. Mitra began wearing a hijab to school. She chose a beautiful white one, made of silk.”

Are there any IFs where the MC (or other characters) can wear a hijab/duka/gele/turban/any other sort of headscarf/headwrap? I know Golden by @milaswriting definitely does, but a lot of others simply ask for hair color and hairstyle, and not whether or not your MC wears something on their head. It of course doesn't have to be important to the story, but I love my hijab and I'd love to see more IFs where any of these beautiful head coverings are portrayed, even if it's just in passing. <3

Haven’t drawn personal stuff in a bit. So I took a break today and finally drew my Spidersona!
———
[ID: A drawing of a spider person inspired by spiderman. The entire character spread is mainly done in shades of green and gold.In the top middle their name, Spider-Lynx” is written. Their suit is comprised of a yellow kurta with a spider-esque pattern. Over it he wears a short jacket with striped, puffy sleeves and a floral hoody. Her green spider mask matches her green gloves. A light yellow scarf wraps around their neck. And atop his head is a golden flower crown.
On the left is a full body pose from his back. She is drinking something through a straw. A question mark floats over their head to express his confusion. There are three flags next to him: gender-fluid, lesbian, and asexual flags.
In the center there is a panel where they hang upside down and say “sup” to a surprised citizen.
On the far right is another stand alone panel showing Spider-Lynx unmasked. She wears that same scarf around her head as a hijab, and a different green hoodie over a yellow shirt. She also had square glasses and brown skin. There is an exclamatory speech bubble pointing somewhere out of the panel. Wavy lines float around his head as their spider-senses alert them to the trouble.
In the bottom right corner is a bust of them in their suit. One hand props their head up as he say “omg!! do tell” in a sarcastic tone.
All around the drawings there are small golden flowers sprinkled around. /End ID]

Celebrating Ramadan With Kalim and Jamil
Tumblr media
Masterlist
First of all, I would like to say that all of this is incredibly self-indulgent. I know that everyone has their own traditions and ways of celebrating Ramadan but this is how my family observes this month. I would love to hear anyone else’s input.
Okay, my mother would love to meet them because they are good, respectable boys.
Every year my mother goes abaya shopping where she has to buy three different abayas (one for Eid, one for Taraweeh/Jummah prayers at the mosque and one for everyday wear) and she always gets upset because I’ve been using the same abaya for the past three years and I only get another one once my previous one has been worn down. Well, now she shall be disappointed no longer because not only would Kalim buy me three wardrobe’s worth of the most luxurious abayas known to man with the fanciest matching shawls but he also, most probably, would get her the fancy abayas as well.]
Kalim would win her heart by buying her those really luxurious hijab shawls.
Oh my god, Eid dress shopping would be a whole other monster. After finding out that I buy two dresses/outfits for Eid, he would be like ‘ha you thought’ and just pull up a thick magazine and ask my mother to point out anything and everything she wants me to have - since she’s the one that does all of the Eid shopping - and the next day I’d find a pile of readily tailored clothes in my bedroom.
A few weeks ago, my mother bought me a golden bracelet with my name written in Arabic on it and honestly part of the reason I love it is because it is exactly the kind of gift Kalim or Jamil would give me.
Iftar and Suhoor would be a feast with Kalim, Jamil and the Al-Asim wealth. Like these boys would stroll up with the rich people dates and my mother would be sold (my mum and her dad love dates).
This has nothing to do with the rest of the post but I know for a fact that the Scarabia boys would get my name right on the first try and I love them for that.
(Context: I have an Arabic/Muslim surname and I spent all my life going to a whiter-than-the-antaractic primary school that used to be a church. That place was so white that we didn’t even have proper assemblies, we had ‘service’ where the priest from down the road would come and talk about the Bible to the entire school whilst the 10-20ish Muslim kids would sit at the back of the hall and read books. So whilst I was there everyone would pronounce my last name as the way you would spell it out in english whereas the actual arabic pronunciation is different but since everyone including my teachers, the librarians, my mum and dad’s coworkers etc called me by the western pronunciation, I thought that that was what my name is. It was only after my Arabic/Quran teacher pronounced my surname in its Arabic way that my dad told me that it's the proper way of saying it. Not going to lie, it felt kind of weird knowing that I’ve been getting my own name wrong for over a decade and I still use the English pronunciation to this day)
Similarly to how Kalim would win my mum with dates and clothes, Jamil would win my mum with handmade kunafa. Trust me, my family loves kunafa.
Also, my parents love arabic tea. My mum collects tea sets and her two favourite sets are her Turkish tea glasses and silvery metallic Moroccan tea set. Jamil would see her arabic mint tea leaves and he would offer to brew it for her and it would taste like perfection, I just know it.
There was this one Ramadan where my mum got into Arabic calligraphy so she bought this big canvas and some black paint and my sister and I tore out pages from my cartridge paper pad and used my calligraphy pens and we just sat and tried to replicate the arabic calligraphy art we saw on google images whilst listening to nasheeds and I KNOW that Jamil would love to do this. Like he would come out with a masterpiece after ten minutes and then judge watch me try to make mine look half decent before trying to help me.
I don’t think Jamil would be allowed in the kitchen when my sister, mum and I prepare food for Iftar since it’s a girls only zone but if he could enter it, I know that he would be all calm and everything would be ready at least ten minutes before the adhan compared to the rat race that happens in my house where there are some days where we are laying the table like a minute before it’s time to break fast.
So the day before or two days before Eid, my mother or her friends would invite all of the ladies and their daughters for a henna party where we pay a professional to come and put henna on our arms (and sometimes feet) and we play music and sing and dance and eat sweets and it's a whole thing. Kalim would be upset that he can’t join us but he’d understand since it’s a girls only party and there will be women who want to take off their hijabs and relax but he would pay for like ten of the best henna artists he knows and order food for us and he’d be such a sweetheart like he’d be so happy when I’d show him my designs and he’d talk about how his siblings would wear henna and he used to wear it before he got tattoos.
So, my family likes to celebrate my dad’s lunar birthday since he was born during Ramadan and then, since my sister and I made a big deal of it, my parents decided that they’ll also celebrate our lunar birthdays as well - and by ‘celebrate’ I mean that my mum would order takeaway from our favourite restaurants for dinner - and I can so see this as a thing that Kalim would do only he would treat my lunar birthday as an actual birthday with cake and presents and the whole she-bang.
I kind of want to introduce Kalim to my grandma only to see his reaction to her calling my little sister ‘shaytan’ (satan/devil) as a term of endearment.
Speaking along those lines, I also have a very artistically talented friend who shares the same morbid humour as me and as a gift she made me a canvas with the words ‘Kullu nafsin thaiqatu almawti’ (Every soul shall taste death) written in arabic calligraphy that I have hung up in my bedroom and I would love to see Jamil or Kalim react to that just being one of the first things they see.

Ms Marvel Episode 2 : Spoiler-y Ramble
First of all...that was perfect. Marvel outdid themselves. This show has a beautiful blend of culture and religion and I see the Muslim and South Asian creators touch.
KAMRAN has arrived.
Tumblr media
Absolutely thrilled that Kamala falls for the Muslim brown boy. I won't stop talking about that. Also I love that Kamran isn't stereotyped in any way. He's just...MashaAllah. Rish is a great Kamran and he and Iman have incredible chemistry. I need to see a lot of him.
Swetshop Boys was also chosen personally by Iman and Rish during their first car scene and it was a win that they convinced Marvel! I am a bit sad Kamran and Kamala aren't family friends because we didn't get Kamran calling Aamir 'Aamir bhai' and Kamran pretending to be the desi golden boy...we all know he's not. But his scene with Aamir was hilarious and I died at Kamala insisting she and Kamran are cousins.
Ok.. So first I thought Kamala was having hallucinations about Aisha and she was trapped in the bangle. I would have found that disturbing and... not ok. But it seems Najma is using her powers to appear to Kamala??? That seems much better. I like that Kamran is being upfront with Kamala. I think we can already make assumptions about what Najma is trying to do. So the US govt/ N.I.C.E... I absolutely loved how they mentioned they are willing to search mosques and target Poc's. This is a huge step in highlighting what Muslim people go through. Sadie seems to be an outright villain so I'm certain Kamala will take her down by the finale. I have a lot of thoughts about the partition discussion and again, I hope people understand how personal it is to South Asians. Especially the discussion of the British and their role.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nakia was amazing this episode. I love her and Kamala running to pray. I also love that she wants to make changes in her mosque. Women prayer facilities not being created or maintained is a global issue that Muslim women face. I hope people acknowledge this. I also love Kamala mistakenly drinking alcohol! Her discussion with Nakia about hijab. The beautiful 'Eid Mubaraks'. Tyesha and Aamir beautifully greeting each other!!!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I'd vote for Nakia Bahadir any day!!
Now that we have confirmation that Kamala's DNA is activating the powers of the bangle... I want to know MORE.
Also Travina is a perfect Tyesha. Ain't no one like Kamala's bhabi.
Also all the Natasha references!!! We need more!!! Women getting the attention they deserve on this show gives me life. I need Kamala casually doing her moves more

The record for highest single match attendance still remains the 1999 WWC final between the US and China with 90,185 in attendance - a number that hasn’t been reached since the men’s tournament at the 1994 WC final between Italy and Brazil at 94,194.
The largest 2023 attendances were at Stadium Australia in Sydney, which saw four capacity-crowd fixtures, including Australia's opening win over Republic of Ireland and the final between Spain and England. The crowd of 75,784 was a record home audience for a women's football match in Australia and the third largest individual crowd attendance in Women's World Cup history. Over 50% of all matches had near sell out or at stadium capacity with a total of 1,977,824 fans in attendance at the 64 games in total, setting a new record for highest overall attendance in Women’s World Cup history across all 9 editions of the tournament. Highest grossing Women’s World Cup in history with a revenue of over half a billion dollars ($570 million), surpassing the projected revenue estimate by $100 million.

To the women out partying tonight in loud ass clubs, I'm in my bed with my dog and reading a book I'm really enjoying - we are not the same.
But we are both valid and free.
To the women who wear hijabs and show very little skin, and to the women who love mini skirts and crop tops, I love you both and all the ladies in between
To the women born with the wrong bodies and to the women who were, I support you and I love you both.
To the girls who are not yet women and to women who are well into your golden years, you're beautiful and I love you both
To the women who are asexual/aromantic and to the women who dreamt of getting married one day since they were little, I love you both.
To the women who stifle their laughter and to the women who's laughter shakes the room with each snort, I adore you and I love to make you laugh
To the women who have big boobs and to the women who are flat chested, I love you both, absolutely exquisite.
To the women who are pale as can be and to the women with the darkest and richest color of skin, I hope you both find your perfect foundation match - you're beautiful.
To the women who wear full faces of makeup and to the women who never wear any at all, you look amazing today
To the women who shave/wax/pluck every hair away that they can and to the women who don't and don't want to, fuck yeah
To the women with cellulite thighs and to the women as thin as a bobby pin, you both are gorgeous
To the women who are queer and to the women who are straight, I hope you find your soul mates.
To the women who love themselves, and to the women who aren't there yet - I support you and I'm so proud.
To every woman in between, to every girl that there is, to every kick ass, loving, beautiful, and amazing people out there in the world, I'm so thankful for you.
I love you all.

Here is a w.i.p of an AU i might make
Based off of the possession thing Utgard Loki does in HoT
an you guess who's possessing Alex? 😉🐺
Alex—or more, whoever was possessing Alex—spun around in a swivel chair in the conference room. "Oooh, we like this! This is fun! What are these? Are they magic?"
Oh great, Alex is being possessed by someone who speaks like Venom and doesn't know what swivel chairs are, I thought.
"They're swivel chairs. The concept was invented in 1505 by a patrician— They're not magic, I think," Snorri answered.
"Snorri, don't tell them our secrets!" One of the Eriks yelled, "They might use it against us!"
How Not-Alex would be able to use the knowledge of the history of swivel chairs against us was beyond me.
"That doesn't matter!" Samirah interrupted. She pointed a finger at Not-Alex, "Who are you? And let Alex go!"
Not-Alex's spinning slowed, and golden eyes narrowed. See, Alex usually had one brown eye and one gold eye, but since this happened they've been completely golden. And gods, it looked freaky.
Not-Alex smiled at Samirah, which really really looked unnerving. It didn't look like Alex's smile. It was too wide and showed way too many teeth. Like rubber stretched over metal. Like something that didn't remember how to smile but tried to recreate it from memory.
"I like your wimple. Móðir has—had! A green one, too!"
I assume they meant Sam's hijab, but there was something off about the way Not-Alex's voice changed when they corrected themself. It sounded almost like two voices than one.
"Enough!" Helgi slammed his fist on the table, "Stop playing around! Who are you? Are you working for Loki? Are you Loki? Is that why you possessed Fierro? What do you want?"
Not-Alex flinched. That was another thing that was creepy about Alex's possession. Not-Alex's movement was weird. It was stiff, like rusty metal joints trying to move.
"We're not working for Dad!" Not-Alex giggled, "We're not Dad! We didn't mean to!"
Yep, that was definitely two voices. Alex is being possessed by two ghosts.
"Aha! So you are children of Loki!" Other Erik shouted

I’ll do it when …
I’ll wear my hijab when I am older . I’ll wear that abaya when I am married . I’ll start salah when I stop this sin.Oh tahajjud and fasting voluntarily is for elderly people.
Oh Dearest ,
Allah doesn’t want you to be perfect He wants you to try and keep on trying.
So don’t be shy. Don’t get swayed by shaitan’s whisper. Don’t think what others will think or say about you or how they’ll treat you . Just take the first step. Imagine how pleased Allah will be with your tiny step.Even if it’s shaking and imperfect .
Make dua and start learning about why does Allah wants you to cover and how it’s done the right way while still doing it. Learn why does Allah wants you to pray while praying ever single day . Include one voluntary fast once a month or twice a month . Start getting up at night while rest of the wolf is sleeping and grab your golden ticket to talk to Allah while you’re still young . While you’re still alive . While you can !
