Such an achingly well rendered portrait of a specific slice of the transfeminine experience. Its use of color is especially poignant. Alex's life is exclusively illuminated in cold tones, muddy shadows and harsh blue light. Even her blood is black instead of vibrant red. The vibrant pink and green of the world of Miracle Chan is barely present: even the cosplay is washed out by the gloom and sickly digital glow of her room. The places where those bright colors exist in the real world are all associated with the friend who is trying to pull Alex out of her shell. Both her hair and the lights of her apartment glow pink and green. Throughout the film Alex lingers at this boundary of the real before retreating back into its facsimile. She sinks into the credits staring at a replacement for happiness that still leaves her illuminated in the same cold tones found in the rest of her life.

If your takeaway from this film was that it was bad and transphobic or hostile to otaku culture I genuinely think you should not be watching short films. Yes, the framing is uncomfortable and casts Alex as some kind of obsessive pervert. This is intentional. At this point in her life Alex is held back by the paranoia of being seen as a sexualized interloper in womens spaces. The uncomfortable framing is being used to place you in her shoes. Art is under no obligation to make you feel good, only to make you feel. If that's something you aren't ready to accept, if you need a girlboss coming out narrative to feel good, then go elsewhere. Don't drag down the creator of a heartfelt piece because you're too fragile to appreciate it.

Hey there! First off, I'm gonna say that I love your AU and some of your designs (Peacock! Marinette for example, it's so original after seeing the same "Elegant party clothes with blue skin" a lot of times), and secondly, it's gonna give me some inspiration to my MLB AU!

Now with the quesitons:

1) Lila it's going to have a redemption arc? Just wanna be prepared if we have another "Scarlet Lady Case" (a lot of fans triggering beacuse Chloe it's not redeem).

2) How are the sentimonsters gonna work? Like canon or with some changes?

And 3) Have you gonna have a favorite chapter to adapt to your au? And if it's the case, you will have a hated chapter that you are gonna rewritte at some point?

Not dnp related but like. I just blocked someone who was a major advocate for generative ai as a tool for people with disabilities and like. Yes. I can see how this may make “art making” easier for many people who physically are unable to draw/paint/etc.

But did you know. Are you aware. There are art making techniques/tools that are accessible and don’t. Yk. Screw over artists and the entire environment. Like.

I don’t mean or want to say “get over it you’re being lazy blah blah blah” because that’s just plain dismissive and I’m well aware I’m not physically disabled. But I DO know that disabled people have always existed, and a good bit of them found ways to be creative despite their disabilities. Hard? Yes. Impossible? No.

Acting like generative ai is the ONLY WAY for disabled people to make art feels like. Idk. Almost like discrediting the work a ton of other people did to find paths to creativity, even when they had barriers. Idk.

Thoughts on Bridgerton S3

I'M JUST RANTING OKAY I've only seen part 2 once and these are just my thoughts and feelings I am gonna throw here and delete later when I probably change my mind after rewatching?? I just gotta rant😭

Penelope was so gracious and understanding and forgiving and I felt she deserved, in many moments, to be rightfully more upset, more vindictive, more fiercely witty and proud. Though I do LOVE all the things getting resolved and solved and brought to light and happy endings (I actually do love it), the journey there for me was missing a healthy and (imo) realistic dose of female rage. Just for the dramaaa come on. All the other drama going on here and Penelope is 'grateful for your counsel?' bfr. I'll show you grateful for your counsel by hating on it! She can show everyone her heart AND her teeth. She is more than capable and I thought that her character was reduced too much in the last four episodes. Penelope I want you to have everything, including your full range of emotion and humor and wit. Drink more w/ Madame Delacroix okay?? And with Lady Danbury.

I feel like my husbandColin was weirdly sidelined? I'm actually quite grateful for Part1 Colin, because I haven't landed anywhere yet with Part2 Colin. I knew he was jealous, I knew he was always going to forgive her...and we all knew he loved her....so the conflict/tension between them was not as interesting- for me! Just for meee. And stupidly drawn out. FOR MEEEEE. He had taken so many 'gallant' steps in his relationship with Penelope so when their wedding day and night and subsequent honeymoon days arrived and he was stuck in that attitude I was so unmoved. Don't play with me, Colin. Go worship your wife.

I JUST WANTED ANOTHER PURE VIOLET MOMENT! OF ANY KIND! Like before/about her dance with Marcus come oonnn! This is Violet! Please for the love. Also give me a convo with her and Penelope! Dear Eloise, you don't know what it is to be a friend, to have a friend, or even to lose a friend. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, maybe I don't care idk. But we start the show humanizing Cressida, bully since season 1 episode 1, THROUGH Eloise. BUT WHEN IT CAME TIME FOR THE FRIENDSHIP TO MEAN SOMETHING TO EITHER OF THEM Eloise willfully gave up, walked away, ran to the comfort of her privilege with her family and way-too-understanding friend. HOW DID WE CHAMPION SO MANY WOMEN ONLY TO ABANDON THIS THING W/ Cressida at the end as she was literally sent away alone.

Lady Danbury complaints similar to Violet. She is usually a more prominent player, so when she wasn't this season, well, I missed her and wanted anything more about her. But! Love her all the same.

HOW DARE THEY throw Kanthony back and forth all weirdy like that. Kate is here, just let us have Kate. And her lil loving husband. Come oooonnn. Three babies at the end and none of them Kate's😭 And Violet was overwhelmed and they didn't get to have another moment?? A lot of off-screen moments are told to us and we just get to believe whoever says whatever. Every actor here has shown they have skills for show-don't-tell productions! All those beautiful eyes! I just am feeling upset about the random use of this gorgeous couple. EVEN ANTHONY, Viscount and eldest brother of them all just walks away at one point when Colin is obviously needing more of him. Whatever.

Why why why did we have an original song PLUS an orchestral cover of it for both to be so unused??? Tori Kelly's song is so wedding-coded and so romantic and earnest. But it didn't make an appearance for Polin at all. Not at their wedding, not in their home, not in the carriage, not anywhere...

Maybe unpopular opinion but I hated "Yellow" being the wedding song. First see the point above and then please please just remember how much Penelope did to distance herself from that fucking color and the horrible memories of it. NOW! IF COLIN HAD MENTIONED IT SOME WAY OR WHATEVER THEN SUUUURRREEE keep the song. HOWEVER. EVEN THE WEDDING WAS NOT YELLOW, HER FAMILY WASN'T IN YELLOW, WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT IT AT ALL WHY IS IT THE FUCKING WEDDING SONG WHEN THERE ARE MANY OTHER OPTIONNNNSSSSS WHYYYYY (idc why, I just hated it, even if I did cry).

Benedict has been cute and boring for far too long and that did not change for me in this season. TWO BRIDGERTONS with queer representation in an already huge season with so many storylines going on, I wish we could've celebrated it better. Amongst the thousands of other things that were being celebrated, Benedict has still been separated from them in weird ways.

Not a big point, just an interesting one. But where did Debling go? He just effed off to the wilderness? We spent a lot of time with him (and Cressida) in the first four eps.....and then he was gone.....okay.

Charlotte, I love you. You should know that first. But man you love to crash a party, and a wedding, and I just feel like you should've at least killed someone by now with all these theatrics. Even for Charlotte, I felt she was strangely incorporated into this last half of the season. She and Penelope are technically equals in many many ways- BUT WE NEVER GOT TO SEE THAT WIT AND BANTER PLAY OUT MORE WHYYYY

All in all. It's just my rantings. I was absolutely in love with the first four episodes. There was something so fairytale about it and it was so romantic. So, yes, I was disappointed in part 2 on the initial watch, despite the many things I loved about it. There was a lot going on and, sadly, most did not land for me. Yet.

It's a good show, I still love the show. I will be watching the show. Give me more of the show lol.

since @/usyrps && @/ccupiditos enabled me, here's a long - ass dornish court rant beneath the cut.

as a note, all of this is made up by me ( aka my specific headcanons ) because grrm doesn't go into detail (as far as i can find) the about the dornish culture before the annexation.

SO, the big thing about the dornish court is: actions are everything. some of this will be piggybacking off of the hc i wrote about over here, but the long and short of it is that because the dornish language ( i hc that dorne has its own language, dornish, that sounds a lot like tunisian arabic, if you're interested. dornish is also a dying language, it isn't spoken much outside of the sun court and sunspear, in general, besides a few strongholds. ) doesn't have direct terms for their rulers. they call them all prince or princess -- this comes directly from their rhoynar ancestors. lots of the rhoynish culture persists in dorne today. i think that the rhoynish language is also very, very similar to the current dornish.

anyways. actions are everything because they do not have particular terms like "your grace", "my lord", etc. therefore, the order in which people bow, the way in which they bow ( is it a low bow, or is it a lowering of the head ? who do they bow to first ? ) is very important.

for example, maryse is born the third in line to the throne. she has two elder brothers that are twins, kedry, the first born, and emery, the second born. emery, at age 12, becomes fascinated by the age of heroes, by the kingsguard of the red keep, and insists on becoming a knight. he does not quite relinquish his title (he's still called prince, by those below him), but he does relinquish his spot to the throne, and so maryse moves up to second to the dornish throne. and so the order for the heirs is kedry and then maryse, and then, if neither have any heirs, it would go to emery. fun fact: the dornish heirs are called "the heirs of the sun", like how targaryen heirs are called "the heirs to the iron throne".

therefore, kedry would bow the lowest to their mother (the ruling princess of dorne), and give a lowering of the head to his siblings. maryse would cursty lowest to her mother with a kiss on her hand, and give a simple curtsy to kedry, and then emery would simply bow to all of them.

during state affairs, when their mother leaves the throne (known as the sun throne, the court of the sun, etc.), it is expected to either bow your head or turn away entirely, based on this hc here. outside of state affairs, it's not a bad thing to look at the throne, but if the ruler is leaving it, looking at the throne directly does show that you are unhappy with the ruler, and want the throne for yourself.

what if another dignitary comes to dorne, of equal royalty ? the dornish will always bow to their specific rulers first, and bow slightly lighter to those that visit. if they are not kings or queens, princes, or princesses, they may not bow at all, but simply nod. but no one is given any more respect than the royal family of the sun court. if someone does bow lower to those visiting, it is seen as a pseudo act of treason.

what about dornish law ? how is that different from westeros ? oh boy, let me tell you !

they cant outright kill criminals– they’re given a choice between a trial (which they will lose if there are witnesses, they can’t come up with an alibi, the evidence is too strong etc, and then be punished. Think: cutting off of a hand, or burning a symbol into their forehead or whatever for what they did, or executed, if the crime is bad enough ) or they can "take the water" or "take the sand" -- aka " dorne's vengeance ".

"take the sand" means they're exiled from wherever the crime took place, and they must walk through the sand dunes to the next settlement, probably miles and miles away, no food or water or clothes, really. i would say the chances of survival are about 1-2%. the rest die from sunstroke.

or they can "take the water". if they do this, the criminal basically gets strung up onto a pole far from shore at high tide, which is deceptively dangerous in dorne. everyone thinks of pristine beaches, but not the depths of the southern ocean slowly rising to kill you. If they survive 3 days out there, they are forgiven of their crime. No one ever does, but usually criminals who know they're going to get executed either way will pick the water, since its supposedly "easier", thinking they'd just have to deal with hunger or dehydration, not damn pirhanas or eels or whatever attacking your legs / midriff and eating you alive

if they pick trial, there is no trial by combat. they get judged and then if found guilty, usually hung rather than beheaded, and i don't think they make it a huge "event" like it is in westeros ( thinking of ned :( ). They treat it more like a solemn thing with very few people present, usually some witnesses, the criminal's family, & the victims etc.

i'm angry crying rn bc as always whenever trump or elon is on the news the rest of my family starts giggling like they're watching a stand up comedy special. super long rant i had to get out under the cut, sorry.

i fucking hate this. i hate them. i hate the family that i was born into. they all claim to be so loving and accepting of everyone when that has always been the furthest thing from the truth. they've all used the n-word more than once (everytime with a hard "r" too), and for my brothers it's a normal word in their everyday vocabulary. everytime immigration is brought up everyone raises a glass and yells, "send them back to where they came from!", and hmm.... "i don't have anything against anyone who's transgender, but they should not be switching genitals, that's wrong." for god's sake if we have a family movie night together, i have to go out of my way to make sure there are no queer couples at all, even for minor/background characters. all because it makes them that uncomfortable to watch two people of the same sex kissing- (seriously, everytime i've watched a gay kiss with them i can physically feel everyone else's buttholes in the room clenching. the tension is so palpable you'd think someone just died). which, in turn, sucks, because that means i can't be who i am either. i cannot claim that i'm bisexual because nobody (in my immediate family anyway) believes me, because and i quote, "don't have any dating experience" which.... wow. what a great way to kick me while i'm already down and depressed, by pointing out my very nonexistent dating history and bringing down the hopeless romantic i secretly keep hidden away from all of you. because if i didn't then that would just give them more ammo to make fun of me.

so i keep it hidden. i keep it hidden... that from the bottom of my heart i feel about as much for them as they do for me- which if you couldn't tell, isn't very much. i keep my disdain for all of them hidden as best i can, but i think they already know based off how many times they've told me i'm "evil" whenever i get worked up about these basic morals they're lacking.

i've always, always felt like an outsider from my family ever since i can remember. from a very young age i always felt like there was something differentiating between myself, my older brothers, and my parents, and it's all unfolding like the crashing tides.

i've been living with my mother for the past 5yrs, and idk if i'll ever get out from her grasp, but when i do i'm not sure how much i am going to want to do with her. i always knew she was conservative, i mean... she was born in 1964 to my grandparents who were very religious and instilled their narrowminded beliefs into their children, but ig i just foolishly always thought she was..... different and didn't actually believe all these horrible things, that have only just now come to light in trumps 2nd term of presidency.

One other thing that bothers me in the Bhaal plot of BG3 is that they made it sound like Bhaal created his Bhaalspawns as... servants? Puppets? And that's never been the purpose of the Bhaalpsawns? Ever? Every new Bhaalspawn he created in BG3 is counterproductive to his plan.

Bhaal knew in advance he would die, so he divided his divine essense into many mortal vessels. Then he charged his faithful (cough) high priestess Amelyssan to ensure every Bhaalspawn was killed after his passing, so that his power could be returned to him and he could be reborn.

Thats' the plan. A plan that's impeded, not helped, by more Bhaalspawns. It means splitting more of his essence.

Bhaal never wanted those spawns, he never intended to keep them, he never wanted a 'perfect child', they were fuel, born to be consumed for his return.

And that Larian has to make their dark urge the one true most *specialest* Bhaalspawn is just... pathetic. Can't find another word for it. They're trying to push aside Gorion's ward entire storyline, two incredible previous games, just to shove in their perfect, most special Bhaalspawn of all Bhaalspawns. And what flesh and blood of Bhaal is the Dark Urge made of? When Cyric killed him, he didn't have a mortal body, he was possessing one. Is the Dark Urge made of the dead flesh and blood of the guy he was possessing? Doesn't feel that special, but sure, go ahead.

I'm not saying their main charatcers shouldn't have been special somehow, it's part of the salt, but they should've have made it special with their own story. Not by trying too hard, and failing, to match the previous two games. I don't know, make the main character special reguarding something Illithid? You know, the supposed main focus of this game?

And yes, they do fail. The original game gives you the opportunity to become a god, in this one, your great evil achievement would be to be to work for a god. Congratulation, you've got a job. The one where you control the brain would be the only one where you truly achieve your evil overlord dreams. Surprise, surprise, that's the one connected to Illithid plot, not the Bhaal plot. They can do good work when they're not trying to one up their predecessors.

I hate when people equivalize remembering to caring about something. My memory is frankly not the best and when I want to remember I do do my best to write it down and make a note of it, but without referring to those notes, I often simply cannot recall things - not with confidence anyways

For example, dick grayson is my favorite superhero and comic book character. Can I recall the exact comic book runs I've read of his or his birthday? No I cannot. I've read thru books and watched videos on DC comics and I would not be able to tell you the chronological order of the different reboots and whatnot. I know I learned it but I simply have a hard time recalling it. And oftentimes it feels like, if you can't remember details like that about something you like, then you must not actually like it

And you see this in relationships too. I suck at remembering birthdays, and my friends are great and don't take it seriously, but you often see people in media and whatnot told that they don't care because they can't remember important dates. And stuff like this can make people sad and oof that hurts

Personally, I feel like this issue for me could've stemmed from school where you only had to be able to recall information until the test and afterwards, you were pretty much free to forget it. Or perhaps I do have adhd, or both - who knows

I can imagine this is probably a problem that people with significant memory loss issues run into a lot, but I can't really speak to that
