May I request hurt/comfort Ethubs? (Hurt Bdubs)
Etho didn't want Bdubs to find out like this.
He'd always been careful to separate his work from his personal life. Working for a villain... It isn't anything meaningful, really. It's just a job. They need somebody that's quiet, good with tech. That's what Etho can do.
It's his speciality. Until he got caught inside enemy lines.
Inside Bdubs' enemies lines.
Etho had always been meaning to tell him. Ever since he found the costume stashed away, he'd been meaning to tell Bdubs the truth. He believed their relationship was strong enough they could work through it. Etho would never do anything to jeopardize Bdubs' position as a hero, not on purpose. He didn't even get the chance to make that promise before he's breaking it. Bdubs stares at him like he's seeing a monster, and part of Etho thinks he is.
Etho slumps against the wall of the too sanitised cell. For heroes, you'd think they'd have more basic amenities. Like a bed with actual soft cushioning. There's nothing to do but sit and wait for his sentence as he thinks of everything he's messed up.
It's lights out - leaving Etho is pitch black - when he hears the cell door sliding open. Etho blinks awake from his light sleep in confusion, barely managing to catch a darker shadow moving towards him.
He recognises the rough hand that pulls him to his feet. The smell of their improvised apartment greenhouse and the grunt as Etho is held upright.
"Bdubs?" Etho whispers. "What are you doing there?"
Bdubs grabs his hand, pulling Etho out the cell. "Breaking my idiot of a boyfriend out of jail." He turns, and Etho catches a glimpse of that smile. "Now, come on!"
He thinks things might be okay after all.

DAY 5360
Jalsa, Mumbai                     Oct 15/16,  2022                 Sat/Sun  12:03 AM
Apologies , my dear .. in previous mail , there was a birthday missed .. now added ..
💜🪔 ,
Ef Birthdays Update :
Hriday Kawadia Ef .. your birthday was on October 13

October 16 .. birthday wishes
to Ef Carina from Germany 🇩🇪 , and , Ef Namrata Pandit ..Love .. .. 🙏🏻🌸🌿
And so another day has ended and the desire to write to the Ef has not ..
It is late .. around 1: 26 AM .. as I get down to it and after many days of irrelevant scribbles here I am wanting to put thought to the post , but the winds of war within the mind and the eyes do betray my disposition and the bed invites .. but not without giving it a fight .. for survival  .. 🤣🤣🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it has been hard to put all the thoughts and work schedules together for the DAY, but the will to continue rides supreme and somehow will drives away the lethargic temperament a million times during the course of the KBC recording ..
arise and be in time for the drive .. the hour and half to be able to make the right time as per the schedules sent the previous night .. the drive and thank god for it gives time to respond to the millions of well wishers that send their gracious wishes .. and the information to the family on the work schedule for the day ..
Its quick sanitisation before entering the green paved station through the doors of sanitised spray and into the Vanity for hair make up and costume .. the dress, the quick gallery walk to the TP room for the briefing .. and on to the stage with the roar of lions abounding, until the seat of the HOT is occupied and the game begins ..
a few here and theres and time to end one and after the meet and greet with the present audience, to rush to sign off the many autographs and pieces of handy work and poetry that the audience has so thankfully and lovingly made with their own hands ..
done ..
on the road back to work after late hours .. the gym .. the office work .. the dine with the family and its past the midnight hour .. rest for the next morn ..
wheel of time never stop .. and the repeat is begun again ..
but somewhere in the middle there is the inner joy of the audience and their personal stories and reactions .. they have wonder in their eyes .. I have simply nothing more than a receptive look of giving them what they wish .. and then back home ..
but ..
music plays an important part .. it has always and the strains that have been construct at the Genesis, bring bad sad and harmonious empires about thee .. and time rolls by and the gates of Jalsa open up to an exhausted blogger , who if  I might say, rather looks forward to this moment ; which he has not for quite a while ..
time is the healer in many respects .. it creates , symbolises , accounts for all that is around and comfortable to behold .. and before long the shadows strengthen and the zzzzzzzz of the day ..
I shall elaborate by the morrow .. and till then its ..

૮ฅ・ﻌ・აฅ OCTOBER 14
Mom asked me to accompany her to give my sister a lift to uni and while driving back we stopped to pick up a package and to buy some ribbons for my halloween costume. I decided to look for cute plates, mainly heart shaped ones and although I did find two types, one was too deep and big -also had blood on it so I had go scrub and sanitise my hands raw because I felt icky - and the other was too shallow for me. Unfortunately I didn't buy a cute plate but a basic small ceramic one.
I love how the trees are colorful, how chilly yet somehow warm it is in autumn. I could wear my current favourite sweater and pants that are now big on me a bit. Mom always tells me that I am getting really skinny and I love the attention I get from other people.
Oh! Also I am finally at my lowest weight in 5 years! Still high, but it is going down surely and I am addicted.

I am an autistic Swiftie. I am going to the eras tour (if I get tickets) and because of sensory issues I will need to wear noise cancelling headphones/ear defenders. I really hate wearing in ear headphones so I am going to wear over-ear ones but I don't know how to incorporate them into my costume. I am going to wear something from the lover era and am currently thinking of recreating Taylors pink and yellow time 100 gala dress. but am unsure how I can make my headphones look like they are part of my costume. (they were first my dads so they are this browny orange colour) I was thinking of bejewelling them but I don't want them permanently sparklified and I don't know if the little sparkles will damage my headphones coming off. The only other solution I have thought of is painting them with acrylic paint and then wiping it all off with hand sanitiser after the concert, but I'm not a very good painter and I won't be able to paint the undersides of them which you can still see. Does anyone have any ideas on how to customise them without permanently damaging them??
Also the current headphones I have are Bose noise cancelling headphones and when I tested them at a sports game over the weekend they didn't block out enough sound. It was only an hour and I came home severely overwhelmed and I really don't want have to leave the era's tour early. Does anyone have any good recs?

Oo oo ships! I'm addicted to these
Can I maybe have a ship for an umbrella academy boy?
I use she/her pronouns, and if MBTI helps then I'm an INFP. :)
I'm very short, I barely hit 5 foot and I have long brown hair, grey/blue eyes and very pale skin with a fair few freckles on my face and arms especially.
I'm usually the mum friend, I gravitate towards kinda chaotic people and usually make sure they dont drunkenly fall into a bush on nights out or something. My bag has everything in it, a bit like Mary poppins honestly. Tissues, hand sanitiser, hand cream, pens, mints, a teddy bear to hug when life gets a little too much (two actually a, a penguin called pingu and a seal called cedric)
I love movies and reading, my dream is to be a novelist or a costume designer. I especially love horror movies. Nothing is better than a horror film, a warm blanket and a cup of tea (proper tea, english tea)
I'm very stubborn but i think I'm kind, creative and generous. I love buying people gifts, christmas is a nightmare because I spend ages trying to find the absolute perfect gifts.
Thank you! :)
Hi Anon!! I ship you with ... Five !!

𓍊𓋼𓍊┊He finds it helpful that you have so many things in your bag, things he can use and whatnot. He may ask you for certain things, not carrying things because he knows you will have them. Be warned you may find him ruffling through your bag often.
𓍊𓋼𓍊┊The pair of you will form a little book club. Reading the same book and often discussing what you think will happen. The pair of you may even get into little arguments over the plot and different characters.
𓍊𓋼𓍊┊Though the pair of you also like to curl up and watch movies, with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea, what better way to watch a movie? There is something special to Five at brewing some tea and setting with you to watch whatever horror movie you could get your hands on.
𓍊𓋼𓍊┊Five likes your more stubborn nature, knowing you care enough about what you say to back it. Though he may find it a little annoying when you are arguing. Knowing either of you is going to back down anytime soon.
𓍊𓋼𓍊┊When it comes to gifts, the pair of you spoil each other. There always needs to be capped because you both will just spend, spend, spend. But all the gifts are meaningful.

Costume N Parties - The Truth About the Durability and Hygiene of Rented Costumes
Tumblr media
Durability is the main factor to consider when thinking about costume rental services, including mascot rental in Singapore. Rental costumes need to be able to handle a lot of wear and tear over time, whether they are being used for a single occasion or several appearances. Good mascot costumes are made of strong materials that can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Examples of these are costumes for popular characters or themes like Harry Potter or cartoon characters for birthday celebrations.
Material Quality and Construction
The fabric and construction methods used in rental costumes play a crucial role in their durability. High-quality materials like heavy-duty polyester reinforced stitching, and durable fastenings ensure that costumes can handle multiple rentals without significant damage. Additionally, reputable rental services invest in maintaining their inventory, performing necessary repairs, and replacing worn-out parts to extend the lifespan of each costume. This focus on quality and maintenance guarantees that each customer receives a costume in good condition, ready for use.
Design Considerations
Costumes intended for frequent rental use are often designed with durability in mind. This includes features like reinforced seams, sturdy zippers, and additional padding in high-stress areas. For example, mascot costumes usually have built-in supports to help maintain shape and reduce wear on specific parts. The design also considers ease of cleaning and maintenance, with removable components or materials that withstand rigorous cleaning processes. This thoughtful design approach ensures that rental costumes remain in excellent condition, providing customers with a reliable and visually appealing option for their events.
Hygiene Standards in Costume Rentals
Hygiene is a paramount concern for customers renting costumes, particularly in the current health-conscious climate. Ensuring that each costume is clean and safe to wear is essential for customer satisfaction and health. Professional costume rental services adhere to strict hygiene protocols to address these concerns.
Cleaning and Sanitisation Procedures
Top-tier rental services implement comprehensive cleaning and sanitisation procedures to maintain hygiene standards, especially for items like cartoon character costumes for birthday parties. After each rental, costumes undergo thorough cleaning processes, including machine washing, hand washing, and industrial-grade disinfectants. Some services may also employ ultraviolet (UV) light sanitisation to eliminate bacteria and viruses. These rigorous cleaning protocols ensure that each costume is hygienically safe for the next user.
Inspection and Maintenance
Beyond cleaning, regular inspection and maintenance are crucial in upholding hygiene standards. Rental services meticulously inspect each costume for damage, stains, or any signs of wear that might compromise hygiene. Any costume that does not meet the cleanliness or repair standards is either fixed or removed from the inventory. This attention to detail ensures that customers receive well-maintained costumes free from potential health risks.
Customer Guidelines for Use
Professional rental services also provide customers with guidelines on how to handle and wear the costumes hygienically. These guidelines may include recommendations for wearing undergarments beneath the costumes, avoiding food and drink spills, and proper storage when not in use. By educating customers on best practices, rental services help maintain the hygiene and longevity of their costumes.
Choosing the Right Rental Service
When selecting a costume rental service, it is essential to consider factors beyond just the available selection and price. The durability and hygiene of the costumes should be top priorities to ensure a positive rental experience.
Reputation and Reviews
Researching the reputation of rental services through customer reviews and testimonials can provide valuable insights into their quality standards. Positive reviews often highlight aspects such as costume condition, cleanliness, and overall customer satisfaction. A service with a strong reputation is more likely to prioritise durability and hygiene in its operations.
Service Policies
Examining the policies of rental services can also shed light on their commitment to quality. Policies regarding cleaning, damage repair, and customer support indicate how seriously a company takes its responsibilities. Clear, customer-friendly policies are a good sign that the rental service is reliable and trustworthy.
Conclusion
Renting costumes, whether for mascot rental in Singapore, Harry Potter costumes, or cartoon character costumes for birthday parties, involves considerations of both durability and hygiene. Understanding the materials and construction of these costumes, the cleaning and maintenance protocols and the reputation of the rental service are crucial steps in ensuring a satisfactory rental experience. By prioritising these factors, customers can enjoy their events with confidence, knowing they are wearing high-quality, hygienic costumes that will enhance their celebrations.

Making beauty products with MSBY
Hi everyone! I really hope you enjoy this! Please check out my masterlist, send in requests and don’t forget to like/reblog! I don’t own the image btw.
Tumblr media
Sakusa - Making Hand Sanitiser
During the pandemic, it had become much harder to obtain hand sanitiser especially near the beginning. Your boyfriend had been furious when he was told by the shop assistant that due to regulations, he was only allowed to buy 2 bottles rather than his usual amount. Omi understood that it was for a good reason but still, you could see how frustrated he was. That’s when you ordered the medical alcohol, aloe vera and a variety of essential oils to surprise him. “What’s all this?” he asked, looking a little suspicious as he removed his mask. “Omi! I thought we could make hand sanitiser!” Immediately, he dropped his bag, walking over to you to press a tiny kiss to your forehead, murmuring a thank you before letting you guide him through the process. It was quite a fun event, with Sakusa insisting on making a multitude of scents. The mini bottles were quickly filled up and he hasn’t even thought to buy hand sanitiser since. Not when he knows he can make it with his beloved.
Atsumu - Making a Hair Mask
It all began when Atsumu was frowning in the mirror, gently touching his dyed hair. “Ah! It’s all dry!” he huffed, pouting adorably at his reflection. You couldn’t help but laugh, moving behind him to give him a big cuddle. “Let’s make hair masks then!” “Eh?!” You had to explain what it was (he literally thought it was a mask for your hair… like a costume piece) and once you were done, he was all for it. On your next shopping trip, you managed to grab the necessary ingredients and the two of you got to work. You had a lot of fun making the mask with him, giggling when you applied the goopy mixture to his head. Atsumu was ready to complain, but he could only sigh and melt into the chair when you began to massage the mask into his hair and head, whining when you stopped. You swapped places and were happy to receive an equally fabulous treatment. Then, after grabbing some shower caps and covering your avocado-coated hair, you chatted for twenty minutes before grabbing his hand, smiling as you headed to the showers to rinse off.
Hinata - Making a Face Mask
You actually had bought more than enough of the ingredients needed for your DIY face mask and after a little thought, you’d called your boyfriend. Hinata was more than happy to try it, even more ecstatic when you said he could help make it. The kitchen would be a mess when you were done but it was worth it to see his bright smile. You insisted on going to the bathroom to actually apply it, knowing he’d end up spilling some on the couch or carpet otherwise. Once there, he actually jumped, complaining,” Y/N, that’s cold!” You only shushed him, telling him to stop being such a baby as you smoothed it out across his features. He got his revenge though when it was your turn, putting way too much on your face so that you looked more like a goopy creature than a spa model. You both definitely took pictures, happy to share them with friends and family.
Bokuto - Making a Lip Scrub
Bokuto was always amazed by how soft your lips were and one day, he finally asked the important question. “Y/N, how do you keep your lips all soft?!” he asked, staring at said lips while he spoke. You’d laughed, before saying you used a lip scrub. A confused look led to you explaining what exactly a lip scrub was and how it worked, suggesting that he could help you make one the next day. The baby was so happy, he literally couldn’t sit still for the rest of the day and night, eager to get started the next morning. Luckily, you had all the ingredients in and he was amazed at how easy it was to make. Bokuto loved the taste even more when you rubbed some on his lips, licking them quickly before trying to get more. The next week, his social media was filled with spams about his new supple lips.

So the thing that really GETS me about Downton Abbey now is that at this point it's basically propaganda. Is this too strong? Maaaaybe.
I genuinely don't think it started that way. 2010 was actually a different world - we'd only just hit the financial crisis, Brexit was years away from being thought of, and a glossy period drama was a glossy period drama to most people. There were fancy rich people with #RichPeopleProblems and there were plucky, likeable servants. The plot was strong and there was a clear focus on the lead up to WW1, the war itself, and its immediate aftermath. It was a hit by virtue of unchallenging nostalgia, beautiful sets and costumes, and intriguing storylines.
But then it kept going. And without the war and its effects as a focus and with key cast departures (Matthew and Sybil), it really lost its way. And while you can excuse a certain staticness of view point in two or even three seasons (though that's stretching it), any more and it starts to become glaringly obvious that Julian Fellowes is not interested in any way in upending the status quo of the Crawleys on the top of the pile and the servants at the bottom. He flirted with ideas of liberation and social change but not in any truly significant ways and while there were so many opportunities to do something fresh and original, he failed to take those opportunities.
Examples: Edith married a marquess instead of living in London as a newspaper editor. Robert is still alive making it impossible to pass on the management of the Abbey, keeping the whole set-up very much stuck in the past for all its talk about the future. It's taken 6 seasons and a movie for Thomas to get any even vague, passing joy in a minor, gay storyline. The cast is exclusively white apart from one minor black character. Tom, the Irish revolutionary, has become part of the institution. I could go on.
By the time we got the movie, a full feature length film whose main plot was exclusively royal pageantry, its true character is completely evident and things that could be hand-waved over in early seasons in the early 2010s stand stark and bleak ten years later.
Britain post-Brexit is a divided nation. It is a nation suspicious of foreigners, where generations are even more divided than before, where minorities and women feel increasingly angry and unheard and where a far right Conservative government peddles dangerously backward rhetoric and conceals sleeze and corruption. Nationalism is on the rise with flag-waving jingoism at its side. The Royal Family is being used as a batting ball between opposing factions of the so-called culture war.
And in this, Downton Abbey, with its royal kowtowing, its unchanging sympathy for the ruling classes, its whiteness, its performative plots of social change, feminism, gay pride where in fact there is no change, women don't have real power and there is no happiness for the one gay in the village, in this Downton Abbey comes down firmly on the side of the Tories. Of Little Britain. Of cosy Brexit sympathisers in the towns and villages across the nation. It is a show made by a Tory aristocrat for people who think Tory aristocrats are good people, making them nostalgic for a sanitised, fictionalised version of their country that never existed and with more than half an eye to appealing to an American market who think that anything historical and British is twee and cute and harmless and who are largely ignorant of the social and political realities of this country (or who are perceived to be such by marketers).
But I find it really hard to look at Downton Abbey in 2021 in the current political climate and find it and its message harmless. Yes, it's an escapist fantasy and why shouldn't we enjoy an escapist fantasy with pretty clothes and music and scenery and Michelle Dockery chewing scenery like her life depends on it? Of course I'll watch it for her! I was invested for too long. But the film has a global reach and cultural capital and its fantastical universe is one I can no longer read apolitically or with anything other than unease and distaste.

Ozlander Fan Gathering 2020  -   The Rik and Sophie Show
Tumblr media
I attended Ozlander in Melbourne. What an incredible weekend so would like to share my Ozlander experience with you. Of course, it was during the very early days of covid-19 which I’ll address shortly. I’d never met any of the cast before, nor any group of like minded fans. Of course, you are usually lucky to know anyone who watch the TV show (not counting a partner) in your circle of friends let alone personally know a group of fans to chat with. It’s funny though, I’m not sure what I expected, but I thought people would have in depth discussions about OL characters/plots during coffee breaks or in line ups for autographs/photos. I didn’t experience that. I think it was a given that we were all deep into OL. Instead, I found we just chatted and got to know each other, ‘Where are you from?’ etc. As this was the first formal Outlander convention held in Australia, this was big news. I bought my ticket the day they were available (Nov 2019). It was a long way off but I knew the gathering would occur a short time after the first few episodes of Outlander S5 were broadcast, so when S5 started airing, my anticipation grew. Prices were steep admittedly, but a number of us felt it may be the first and last opportunity to meet a cast member, so we did what we could to get there (i.e. sell the healthiest child, blackmail the rich, etc).
Article from “The Scottish Banner” Feb 2020.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, 4 weeks out, Ed Speleers withdrew due to work commitments but local, David Berry, was announced as his replacement on the same day. Then 10 days out, Graham McTavish withdrew due to work commitments in Slovakia. No news of a replacement was announced (I learnt at the event that organising a visa etc with Covid-19 developing had made it nigh on impossible to organise a replacement in time). Ozlander organisers revisited the program and added extra value features to the various tiers. The gathering weekend was so close, yet seemed so far away in these uncertain times. Every day, I anticipated receiving an email stating it had been cancelled. I knew the organisers must have been pulling their hair out. Selfishly and as long as it was safe to do so, I was hoping it would still go ahead. The virus was not as advanced in Australia. Most of our relatively low number of cases were brought in by travellers (residents returning or tourists) from Europe/Asia before flying was cancelled. The Federal Government had restricted public gatherings to less than 500 at the time. Attendance was actually under 200.  FYI, below are the global covid-19 stats as of 19 April 2020, a month later. Australia’s population is 25 million.
Tumblr media
A few days after the Ozlander event, only crowds of less than 100 were permitted by the govt. We were so, so lucky!! Of course, that reduced further as precautions were implemented over time. We have self-isolation and a lot of business closures, cancellation of sports/entertainment etc. It is dreadful, but not a total lock down in Australia. We could walk dogs and make necessary trips to the supermarket, pharmacy, doctor or special court appearances. Anyway, just wanted to address this concern. ~ Tickets sold well (premium tickets sold out). I saw fans on sm stating the date of the event clashed or it was a bit expensive so I know more wanted to come. Yes, the cost was relatively high. Return airfares for cast, accommodation, plus I assume their appearance fee was always going to be an expensive venture, especially as our AUD had been declining sharply against the USD for some time. Australia can miss out on some things because of distance and a relatively small population, but overall, I think we have done well over the years. ~ Rik (Richard) and Sophie posted IG photos from Melbourne a couple of days before the event. Yay!! They were in the country at least, enjoying the sunsets, cuddling koalas and hypnotising wallabies lol. Sophie posted a selfie from a public toilet (bathroom) - as you do. See Sam’s comment below. Toilet paper was becoming a precious commodity....🤔
Tumblr media
So the odds looked good and finally, Ozlander arrived.🥳 Before we took our seats, a lone piper slowly walked into the throng playing Waltzing Matilda (iconic Australian bush ballad) which segued into Outlander's theme song. Goosebumps! Applause all 'round. The piper was a big fan too.
Tumblr media
What a thrilling start to proceedings. We took our seats and Meagan Taylor (the one who dared dream the dream), welcomed everyone. The age range of fans was predominately 40-65. We were excited and expectant. Housekeeping announcements focused on coronavirus precautions of course. Wash hands, use hand sanitiser when you can't, no handshaking and no touching the cast. This last request was a little disappointing after seeing photos from other OL cons, but it was quite understandable. I think we were just over the moon Ozlander went ahead so we were more than happy to comply and consider the health and safety of others. Then Meagan had the unenviable task of informing us David Berry had unfortunately cancelled his appearance due to health reasons. Yikes! What a shame. (David released a press statement 15 March(?) outlining his difficult decision. Sydney is Australia's Covid-19 hot spot, so David being a Sydneysider, had to consider this I guess). There are IG photos of David, Rik and Sophie together in Australia, just not sure where. So of course, it surprised everyone that David wasn't attending. Refunds of his meet and great and the re-jigging of tiers was to be announced on the fly. Then there were two, Rik and Sophie (and no pressure whatsoever!)🤪. Meagan then advised that the five panels across the weekend would be all audience Q & A which got a loud cheer. On with the show! The Rik and Sophie show! 🎉 They came on stage ready for a good time. Rik opened with 'G'day'. Great start I thought and continued his half decent Australian accent. It's a hard accent to imitate as we know. Rik's was a bit exaggerated but that was part of the fun.
‘G’day. ‘How are ya’?’
Tumblr media

Roger Mac is in da house.
Tumblr media
I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I have seen Rik and Sophie in a lot of interviews, OL promos (talking to camera) and taking part on OL panels on YouTube. I can find their rapport a little strained and snarky at times. Luckily, I was very pleasantly surprised that their 2020 version was very endearing and entertaining. I think they’ve worked on this. I also think, that the spectre of Sam and Cait, through no fault of their own, does loom large at cast events. Therefore, it was great to see Rik and Sophie rise to the challenge of working the room in the absence of their cast mates. And I think they really relished this (albeit exhausting) opportunity and the small theatre made it a casual and intimate affair. They answered questions in an engaging manner and often expanded on it, citing on set examples, many I’ve never heard before, and I’ve seen a lot of OL interviews. Almost as soon as they came on stage, Rik was asked if he would play his guitar and sing for us. While flattered, I think it was too early in the piece and he said maybe he would do so during the weekend sometime. Alas, time wasn’t on our side so it didn’t eventuate. ~ Rik was asked if his hair ticks were under control (ep 501)😂. Combing his fingers through his hair, he replied in his strong Scottish brogue that most of them were gone now. Good sport. ~ He was told the OL bts photos he posts on sm (taken on set) were great and much appreciated and to keep them coming to which the audience applauded. I think he quietly enjoyed that moment. All creatives will take that, knowing their skills and hard work meant something to someone, much like our appreciation for OL and these sorts of events!

Then on to costumes, wigs and make up. It was thought that it must be nice to have your scalp/hair attended to in the makeup. ‘No, it’s not’ R&S said in unison.😂 Verra uncomfortable process apparently. The hair is flattened and held down with clips. The hairline edge of the wig is ‘glued’ to the top of your forehead and then alcohol is used to get the glue off after shooting, which dries the skin. Some hair falls out over time with this process also. We know this has happened to Sam to an extent.😬 Rik is hoping to grow his hair long enough so he doesn’t need a wig, which accounts for his current hirsute glory. ~ Sophie said they both share a make up trailer and added that Rik has a magic make up chair. Being early morning, he often goes to sleep in it and upon waking up, hey presto, it’s Roger Mac. At make up time, they do know if the other is a bit touchy, so they try not to annoy each other. Too much.😂 ~ At one stage, we were a bit shy in asking questions. Meagan said if this was in the US, there’d be a line up for the mic.😂

~ Sophie responded to a geeky question about wearing wireless mics secreted in their costumes or hair as well using the usual overhead boom mics you see on bts videos. She was asked about her experience with ADR which she’s not a great fan of it. The audience asked, ‘What’s ADR?’ There are a few accepted terms in the industry, Additional Dialogue Replacement is one. It’s when some dialogue needs to be re-recorded late in post production if the original dialogue audio recording at the time is less than optimal for a variety of reasons (thanks Google). Sophie gave an instance when in S4, Bree told Claire she had been raped. The stream in the background got into the dialogue mics too much in this particular outdoor location, so Sophie had to re-record her dialogue (like lip syncing) saying exactly what she said at the time, whilst watching the scene on a screen in a recording studio. It’s hard to get the context and emotion of the scene back into your voice and that’s why some actors hate doing it and plead to have the original dialogue kept as much as possible. But ADR happens more than you realise and for various reasons (see Google). It is impossible to tell when you watch the show, what scenes have had ADR done, it’s blended so well. They would record the stream/ ambient sounds separately at some point and then mix it in lower against the dialogue after ADR is done. 😅
~ Sophie talked about her audition process and was sat down in an exec’s office and was told OL fans are very passionate! (we are?🤔😁). They have an idea of how book Brianna should look and Sophie confirmed she wasn’t tall enough, eyes the wrong colour, etc and that yeah, as expected, she received some not so nice things on sm. But she tried not to read too much of it and pressed on with the role of Bree. Her tone wasn’t sarcastic or indignant at all, but humble. I was impressed.
Queuing for photos with Rik or Sophie on this occasion. We weren’t allowed to touch but we all had a squirt of hand sanitiser (just to be super safe?).🤔

There were a few photo opportunities over the weekend and a bonus or two thrown in make up for the cast that couldn’t make it. A refund was offered for people with meet and greet tickets for David. However, R & S kindly offered to do a meet and greet for David’s fans instead and they happily accepted. Legends! I don’t know where they found the energy to be constantly ’on’ with so many people over the weekend. Chocolate? Youth?  ~ As it was a small event, there weren’t any extra security staff that I could see. I think it was only the Museum staff and the security cameras which were hardly noticeable. ~ When getting my autographs, Rik and Sophie didn’t ask for my name, but when I read their personal messages, they had used my name (which they’d seen on my Ozlander lanyard. How cool is that? Very slick!). There were assorted costumes, the de rigueur wedding dress of Claire’s which added to the ambience. Of course, most of the audience were women but good to see a handful of men there, some even in kilts! Saw some Aussie Peakers in their MPC tees too. Cool.
To settle a pronunciation question, Sophie asked the audience after lunch, ‘Is it scone (as in, phone) or scone (as in, shone)?
Tumblr media
An emphatic SCONE (shone) came back. Rik said “Oh, wow, a shouting(?) majority?’
Tumblr media
Just to be sure, someone asked who lost, Rik pointed at Sophie. He didn’t gloat too much. Poor Sophie!

Of course, what would an OL event be without the cast having a drink or two to lubricate the tonsils (as we say).

Here are a few more tidbits. All the info I’m sharing has been gleaned from the panels and time spent with Rik and Sophie over the weekend as my tier allowed (which was a lot). ~ Yes, they had tried Vegemite (similar to marmite/promite), courtesy of David Berry. Sophie has some in Scotland. Onya Davo! (good on you David). Incidentally, Sam tried some when he was here in 2016 on Studio 10 (morning talk show - March 2016, his interview is on You Tube). It’s a thing. ~ Rik didn’t know if Sam’s whisky would be his cup of tea, but said it was ‘good actually’. ~ Rik was sometimes surprised by the particular take post production used for the show, but was more surprised by what was edited out of a scene (to add dynamics or guide the narrative a certain way which would apply to all productions everywhere). ~ The pyre scene with the Jesuit Priest at the Mohawk Village Ep 412 was hard to watch on TV. He said it was hard to watch them shoot that scene on set as it was so dangerous!😬 ~ Sophie very occasionally discussed the historical accuracy of things in a scene with directors ie. birthing stool or not in Ep 413 and 1960′s The Mashed Potato moves in S5 are different to how we know them now. She convinced the director’s on those 2 occasions. To me, it shows her passion for the show! ~ When asked about Bree meeting Jamie for the first time in S4, Sophie was asked about the eww factor but didn’t think about Jamie’s hand touching her face after he had relieved himself as he had only used a fruit juice bottle.🤣 ~ R & S were asked to respond to: ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!’ And with relish they replied: ‘Oi, Oi, Oi!’. Someone did their homework. Cool. It’s a parochial call and response thing some aussies do at sporting events etc. ~ R & S often went for an early morning run. Before Sunday’s program began, Meagan asked us all to be very quiet. ‘That sound’, she said, ‘is Rik having his hair blown dry backstage.’ Laughter at Rik’s expense all round. Sophie came on with her’s still damp.

Graham McTavish ‘popped’ in from Slovakia to say hi and sorry I can’t be there. Rik and Graham had a good rapport. After some banter, the audience was now supposed to ask a question and GM rolled his eyes as he heard Rik’s voice again, this time asking him what he conditioned his beard with? ‘Well”, said GM, ‘well Richard, um, I, ahh (chuckle), I condition it with...., obviously a little bit of your love ..’. Much laughter in the theatre.
Then GM commented further, (which I missed, sadly), to even more laughter.

Who knows what would have happened had GM been at the event in person?! There is so much more I could share, but you get the idea.
Sophie wasn’t feeling the best during the last panel just before the close of the event, but she pushed through like a trooper. Rik said she had eaten too much chocolate. A weakness of Sophie’s. I think fatigue was catching up with both of them. They did so much.
Meagan presented Rik and Sophie with an Akubra (pron. uh·koo·bruh) each (iconic Australian outback hat) as a memento of their time here at Ozlander. Rik had the Crocodile Dundee style whilst Sophie’s was more demure. In his best aussie lingo, Rik said: ‘I’m Richard Dundee and this is my partner, Skippy (Sophie).’ (Referencing Skippy the bush kangaroo ? - a much loved Australian TV show 1968-1970).

The Scottish Banner article promised an intimate relaxed chance to get to know stars from the Outlander TV series and I’m happy to say that this is exactly what we got. Whilst it’s a shame we didn’t get to know Ed, Graham or David better, we certainly got to know Rik and Sophie better than we had ever anticipated. As a result, I see Rik and Sophie in a new light, esp in S5, where they have more scenes together. In a small way, I’ve gotten to know a little of the person that inevitably informs their TV persona (ie facial expressions, mannerisms, speaking cadence and inflections). What a memorable time I had (can you tell?). Thanks to Rik and Sophie, the gathering organisers (who got a special mention on stage at the close) and the other fans I met there. Thanks for reading this far on a rather lengthy post.😊 I know it’s my take on the weekend, but I’ve tried not to editorialise it, but present it, as accurately as I can, hence, it may be a bit dry to read.😅  I think Ozlander is a great name and I look forward to Ozlander Fan Gathering 2021.

Day five of work experience! Or, more precisely, day one of week two.
This week I am joining the ENT (ear, nose and throat) department, which over the course of the pandemic, has obviously expanded as the ENT specialists liaise closely with the respiratory doctors. And as we know, COVID-19 is extremely fond of the lungs and airways. So, the first thing I noticed on the ward, were the amber and red circles on posters to warn incomers that this is a COVID-19 prone area and requires PPE protection.
PPE protection leads to my second point. There is the obvious changing of aprons and gloves, with sanitisation, between seeing patients; however, during the afternoon I had to don a unique face shield (there will be an image below). I say unique, because this face shield is like a helmet with the transparent face shield having a film that, once equipped, you peel off and position it under the chin. This is to create a closed internal system, where oxygen is supplied from a small tank attached to a belt around the waist. I say unique again mainly because I have not seen this PPE before, and I looked like an astronaut or like I was wearing a beehive costume. Experiences like this have shown by how much the NHS has levelled up, with protecting it's staff, in such a short span of time.

Now, following the structure of the day.
In the morning I was shadowing a registrar, who is one year short of becoming an ENT consultant. It consisted of checking on patients after the weekend, and as expected from the loner rest, many had improved in their condition. Two cases of glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) were present. Being a herpes virus, it is contagious by saliva or by sexual contact, hence patients have to have some withdrawal in these areas for a couple of months. Glandular fever causes flu like symptoms, a swollen throat and glands and general malaise (intense tiredness). Malaise is the last symptom to go, lasting up to even a couple of months. Unusual symptoms include mild inflammation of the liver and a damaged spleen (spleen swells during inflammation as it is part of the immune system). One patient did exhibit a sore abdomen so was recommended to lay off any intense abdominal movements for the next 3 months.
Later in the morning and in the early afternoon I was in theatre. This meant blue scrubs.
I had a peak at a lobectomy of the lung using the Da Vinci Xi robot. However, a peak was all I got so I was unaware of the main body of information surrounding the case. Luckily I was able to watch most of the next procedure: tonsillectomy. Really common. More than half a million children get it per year. Main reason being sleep apnea.
The case regarding subglottic stenosis, a narrowing of a part of the larynx, on the other hand, I did fully attend. Initially, a CO2 laser, making star shaped incisions, and balloon dilation was meant to be used to widen the patient's windpipe after a difficulty in breathing from autoimmune vasculitis. Yet, during the procedure, the ENT surgeon decided that he was happy with simply cleaning the airways and injecting steroids directly into the tissue to inhibit for some time the autoimmunity. This was because the patient had already improved in their condition peri-operation. The procedure itself took no longer than 15 minutes.
The rest of the afternoon I was left with the previously operating surgeon and a speech therapist to review some outpatients. Simply, the patients were asked about how their condition has been going in order for the consultant to discharge them. Occasionally an endoscope was lowered down the nose to compare the internal anatomy, particularly that of the flimsy vocal chords, to previous admissions. This is where the speech therapist would ask the patient to make noises, such as humming, to assess the functioning of vocal chords. And let me say, the vocal chords vibrate insanely! In a male they can abduct and adduct as much as 120 times per minute.
It was a day packed of learning, as always. And that's how I want everyday to be.
