Story Recommendations
I have a soft spot for other peoples’ OCs, so why not make a list of my favorite stories and books <3 In no specific order. Please note: Some of those are heavy on the whump.
Unless noted otherwise, all stories are in a fantasy/historical setting.
I’ll try to limit it to one series per blog, but I might link others without description, and I encourage you to check out the other works of those people.
Personal Highlights
Absolute gold star stories with a special place in my heart 💜

Unfinished Stories
I cannot guarantee that my categories here are correct, but below are stories that are either abandoned, or where the last update has been more than a year ago.
Captured by redwingedwhump
This is a story about a relatively wicked warlock who is taken prisoner by his worst enemies- men claiming holiness, out to save his soul… Other works: Check their pinned post
Perfect Sorrows by whumping-in-the-wings
A Victorian/Gothic whump story, set in Paris with a slightly unconventional take on selkie-ish magical creatures. Other works: Traces
Blackmuir Reign by deluxewhump
When Therrin Blackmuir takes advantage of a volatile political situation to reclaim the throne, he finds an unexpected prisoner in the deepest cell of the dungeons, someone who does not expect merciful treatment from him.
Nik by just-a-whumping-racoon-with-wifi
Ever the one to sacrifice himself, Nik makes a deal with a sorcerer to keep his people safe. Little does he know that his cooperation was never required; just the magic that runs through his veins.
Gozukk and Anna by whimperwoods
Chief Gozukk of the orcs allows passage through his lands to a human caravan and receives, in exchange, a half-elf girl they’ve been abusing.
Also I throw a lot of masterlists I come across that I might want to check out at some point on my sideblog @burnt-salad-bar
(Not all of them, because that would require using more than a singular brain cell and remembering.)

good short stories for @papermatisse
ok homie needed help writing short fics so heres a list of some short fics i like and what makes them so good despite their length (this sounds insulting but its difficult to make a story effective and short, so if you're on this list you’ve done a good job at it!)
sweet tooth by @lino-nyangi
ok so what i said about ongoing metaphors, this is sorta in the same boat but its less of a metaphor and more of a theme/how to run along a story? like because it flows through y/ns birthdays and each scene is that and the progression of it, it keeps you engaged. its very clear what the story is about, what the end of the story will be and it makes it so satisfying to read!
a life we spent apart for the death we spent together by @lebrookestore
brooke is an amazing writer and usually does do longer fics machi so check her our fr but this drabble works so well with me bc its a familiar theme that the readers know. being so short, you don’t have the words to world build or create depth with your characters the way you normally would. so picking a concept people are familiar with (in this case soulmate au) it allows the reader to already be invested in your story without having to write a lot. if that makes sense? you can just add your story and your feelings, into an already existing universe and get the point across. very cool
return our lives by @hoshwife
ok sorry to say this again but mads is an amazing writer! legit one of my favourite, if not my favourite, on this app. once again, she does longer fics as well that you should def check out machi. but this story in particular is amazing, reading this again omg, just as good as the first time. i’m not sure how to describe mads writing, as i said above picking a familiar theme allows readers to be invested in the story without a lot of world building/character development but i feel although this story is the opposite. writing about the war which isnt common on this site, very descriptive of the world in the story. mads has just done such a good job at writing something so good but still fitting it into a bit sized fic. this is probably the most “scene of a fic” one on this list i guess? just read you’ll see what i mean lmao anything from mads is so good so yess check it out
crimson by @neo-shitty
horror! if you're able to put a twist or some gory effects in a story it can be really effective at leaving an effect on the reader. this story does this so well! captures you in at the beginning, and then the last part is just done so well, no spoilers but if you do read it omg. i really really love horror stories for this reason. the twist of the horror. it makes a story great and it can be either done in longer fics or shorter ones ( i have so many long horror suggestions machi hmu bro)
dark clouds by @doiefy
sorta the same as horror, but some alternate universes work well in smaller bits. i’ve done something with siren/mermaids where it was just a smaller chunk out what could've been a longer au. allows you to write something in there without a full fic, means you don’t have to work out all the lore of a full universe but its still really fun to write! this fic has done a similar thing to mads where you get to build up a little bit of the universe its set in, just enough for your story to make sense then to focus on what the narrative of your story actaully is. if that makes sense?
my last season called ‘you’ by @zh-lele
i know we already read this story for k-bookclub but it really fits well for the ongoing metaphor point i talked about a little bit. the story is told through sections of the flowers, each feeling is represented by the flowers and what they mean. it’s just a great way to get across the point and meaning of your story
this one doesn’t have a specific fic recommendations but song fics! im a bit bias on this one bc i enjoy writing song fics, but if an artist can fit the narrative of their song into a 3-4 minute song, its sorta the same thing trying to write your story into the same short frame. its really fun like analysing the song, what the meaning is and trying to turn it into a story with the same meaning and effectiveness
this is a lot shorter than i wanted but if anyone has any types on writing shorter fics let me or machi know 🙏

*Insert all the Disney headcanons for that meme here* <3
Hercules - Is your muse more physically strong, or emotionally strong?
Physically. She's strong in both ways but her emotions do get the best of her sometimes
Cinderella - Did your muse experience any childhood traumas? Did they overcome them?
Yes! She lost her mother at 15, her older brother when she was in her 20s and her twin in her 30s. She herself died shortly after due to suicide by Molly overdose. Her father died shortly after her.
Bambi - What is your muse’s relationship with their parents like?
Molly and Angel were both very close with their mother. Molly had a friendly relationship with her father but also resented him for how controlling he was with her and the way he treated Anthony.
Pinocchio - How honest is your muse? What is their moral stance on white lies?
Molly is honest with most people but has no problem lying if she feels it's necessary.
Fantasia - Does your muse believe in magic? What is their view on it?
She has no choice but to! She knows certain demons possess magical abilities and she herself dabbles in witchcraft.
Mulan - Is your muse secure in their gender identity? Have they ever experienced sexism or transphobia?
Yes. Sexism was rampant in her time period but she refused to be made into a stereotype.
Dumbo - Has your muse ever been bullied for a physical difference?
Yes. During the 1900s, racism against Italians was rampant due to the war. So she was bullied because of her ethnicity.
Aladdin - If your muse had 3 wishes, what would they wish for?
1) To have her mother back
2) For her father and Arakniss to treat Angel right
3) For Angel to be free from Valentino. She's aware of what is happening but doesn't know the gory details.
Zootopia - Would your muse enjoy living in a utopia, or would they feel out of place?
She would immediately feel out of place. Things like that are eerie to her.
Tarzan - How did the place your muse grew up in affect them?
Well, her family is mafia so it taught her how to fight and how to get away with a lot of shit.
Moana - Does your muse believe in fate or destiny? What is theirs?
Nope and it's a mystery
Atlantis - Is your muse adventurous or do they prefer to seclude themselves?
Molly can be adventurous! Especially if she has her twin bro by her side
101 Dalmatians - Does your muse have a large collection of any particular thing?
Yes. Hello Kitty merch
Oliver and Company - Is your muse more street smart or book smart?
Street smart. Not to say she isn't book smart but education wasn't great when she was growing up.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - What is your muse’s religious beliefs? Have they ever experienced oppression at the hands of religion?
She was raised Catholic and still holds some of those beliefs but not really.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - How trusting of strangers is your muse? Would they accept a gift from a stranger?
She is very distrustful of demons she doesn't know. Especially given what some demons would do to someone like her.
The Princess and the Frog - Would your muse accept someone else’s help in fulfilling their dreams, or would they want to earn it for themself?
She would want to work for it herself
The Emperor’s New Groove - What animal would you associate your muse with? Why?
Spider xD I think this is pretty self-explanatory
The Lion King - Is your muse prepared for the responsibilities laid out for them in life?
Yes and no. She's capable of course but she doesn't really want to.
Peter Pan - Is your muse a child at heart? What is their mental age or maturity?
Yes! She's a giant kid though she knows how to be mature as well.
The Little Mermaid - Would your muse change themself for love, or would they wait to find someone who loves them for who they are?
She would want someone to love her for her.
Wreck-It Ralph - What does ‘being a winner’ mean to your muse?
I don't have an answer for this
Lilo & Stitch - Does your muse have any pets? Do they want any?
She doesn't but she'd like one. She doesn't think she has time to though

I rewatched the animated the little mermaid from Disney and it was great. I went from loving this movie to hating this movie to loving it again. I disliked it because I loved the original story and felt like Disney ruined it. However, I see now that Disney put a lot of love and care into this movie. Who cares if it has a different ending from the original? Every adaptation is different and brings something new to the table.
Ariel is a good main character. She has some flaws like not thinking things though and is extremely impulsive. But she’s also sweet and her character design is beautiful. She’s so fun to watch and super cute. She does reminds me of weebs irl tho. I do feel like she didn’t really learn anything in the end. People say she didn’t need to learn a lesson but I disagree. Ariel puts her friends in danger though out the movie. Also, she should have been the one to kill Ursula. Most of the cast is great. Flounder is cute, Sebastian is funny and triton is a good character. Ursula is one of the most iconic Disney villains out there. The only character that falls flat to me is Eric. Yeah, he’s hot and he’s also three of the most badass Disney princes of the bunch. However, he’s super bland. Prince Philip from sleeping beauty had more personality than him and he’s from the 60s! His VA is also pretty bad. I get it was his first voice acting role but yikes. There’s always someone in Disney princess movies who can’t voice act to save their lives. The voice actors for Eric, John smith, rapunzel, Sisu. I do know that the VA has gotten way better. After all, he voice 90s Spider-Man. Anyway, I don’t hate Eric. He’s just the weakest link in the movie to me.
This movie did improve some things from the original fairy tale like leaving out the gory details. However, some things were for the worse. Like the deal being 3 days instead of until the prince gets married. It made Eric and Ariel’s relationship feel rushed. Some changes were for dramatic effect like Ursula changing her into a human under rather the giving her a potion and the mermaid drinking it on land. Ariel’s hair flip was ironic but it was kind of dumb of Ursula for her to turn Ariel into a human under water. She could have drowned.
Overall, this movie was ironic and will always be a classic. I can’t wait to watch the remake!

What will you sacrifice to be with him?
Will you cut your tongue out?
Plunge a knife into your tail and carve it in two?
To walk quietly by his side on aching human feet.
Of course you will.
Because in another life
He bled for you.

Since we've hit 100k works on ao3,
I've gotten many asks about my favorite Destiel fics! Instead of replying to them all, I thought I'd just list them here along with the summary, word count, and my opinion on each (as a side note, all of them are Explicit):
In a Mirror, Darkly by anyrei, mugglerock Words: 196,710, Canon
Summary: “Do you trust me, Dean?”
“You know I do,” Dean answered, his voice carrying resignation and sadness. He knew Cas was right. This was the only way if he wanted to help save his brother. He had to do it, even though everything in him wanted to fight it. But he trusted Cas with his life. And now he was going to show him just how deep that trust ran.
Dean fell to his knees in front of the angel, bowing his head forward as he was fitted with the extraordinarily heavy collar. Castiel’s fingers caressed his skin when he closed the clasp of the sign of slavery; the symbol that gave Dean’s life over to the angel’s mercy. Dean suppressed the urge to close his eyes.
Opinion: This fic is my all-time favorite. No seriously, it's the first fic I recommend to people when they ask. And I've read it 3 times over a 3 year period. I'll never get tired of reading it. It follows Cas and Dean having to pose as master and slave to rescue Sam from Angels in Limbo. Lots of smut, basically a Porn With Plot fic but the smut adds SO MUCH to the story. Amazing fic.
Taker of Souls by jscribbles Words: 128,665, Canon
Summary: The angels have fallen. Castiel is human, Sam is recovering from the trials, and Dean doesn’t want to expose them to the world as it’s crumbling outside the bunker doors.
To pass time in their solitude, Dean discovers a hidden room in the bunker full of dangerous magical artifacts and accidentally exposes his friends and family to an ancient horror. If Castiel thought adjusting to humanity was already a terror in itself, he experiences a world of pain when the ancient spirit Dean released chooses him as a vessel to fulfill its evil prophecy.
Castiel begins to change as voices call out to him in the night and take the form of the one righteous man he desires, temptation drawing him to complete a ritual that will allow one of Hell’s most feared ancient entities to occupy his vessel.
Before Sam, Dean, Kevin and Crowley know what is happening, they are thrown into a lockdown, unable to escape the bunker as the cruel, twisted monster inside of Castiel prowls the hallways, hunting them, thirsty for their blood, hungry for their souls.
Opinion: This one was very gory, very scary. A cheeseless and modern take on the horror movie The Evil Dead (1981 2013) where Cas is the villain but unwillingly. Heartbreaking angst with a happy ending, this little fic is overlooked because of being tagged as a crossover. I hadn't seen Evil Dead when I read the fic and the author did such a good job describing every single scene, I didn't need to. READ TAGS
Out of the Deep by @riseofthefallenone Words: 488,608, Mer!Cas/Human!Dean AU
Summary: Stay away from the light-beds. Stay in the deep.
It is the first thing hatchlings are taught the moment their fans unfurl and they can swim without their parents to buoy them along. It is the first rule, the first law. It is the beginning of every boogey-monster bedtime story told when they settle against the cliffs to sleep.
Castiel should have listened better.
Opinion: WOW. Where to even start. This fic is a staple in the Destiel AU fandom. The world-building is absolutely incredible and the author stayed true to the characters' personalities and what makes Dean and Cas, Dean and Cas. I was hooked from the very first chapter and read it within 2 days. Although the 500k words may look daunting, it's ABSOLUTELY worth it, I promise. You'll get. everything you could want from this fic including fluff, angst, heartbreak, hurt/comfort, smut, just everything. And if you're staying away because of the mermaid thing, let me tell you. The author just makes it so realistic and believable and beautiful, a few chapters in is enough to change your mind.
The Graveyard Shift by @purgatory-jar, @riseofthefallenone Words: 620,733, Monsters Living In Harmony AU
Summary: Dean’s favourite coffee shop, The Graveyard Shift, is only open after the sun goes down. Which is perfect for him, because that’s exactly when he craves coffee the most while doing the overnight at the fire hall. The coffee shop’s owner is pretty perfect too, but it’s kind of a bummer that Dean never gets to see Cas during the day. In a world where the supernatural live more or less in peace with the rest of humanity, it’s a little impolite to ask Cas just what he really is - or what his dark past entails.
Opinion: Although it's over half a million words, this fic is incredible. From the world-building to the mysterious air it has, the art, as well as the writing, makes it a must-read. I can't tell you how many times I've recced this to someone in the fandom. I won't spoil it for you, but it's absolutely adorable. Again, the authors work so hard to make sure that Dean and Cas' personalities are true to the show's. It's coffee shop!au meets fireman!au meets monster!au. A slowburn truly worthy of it's title.
Hunting for Faith by @perunamuusa, @riseofthefallenone Words: 270,952, Reverse!verse AU
Summary: It starts a few days earlier.
Castiel first notices it in the middle of the night when the dreams of fire and screams have kept him awake. He’s kneeling before the altar, praying, when the glass in the windows start to shake, the very air vibrating around him. Castiel is on his feet and reaching for the gun tucked into the back of his pants as the shutters over the windows start to rattle.
Opinion: If you have ANY interest in Hunter!Cas/Angel!Dean, go read this fic. Like now. So, so awesome. I won't say any more other than Cas is a priest and a hunter and Dean and Sam are angels, because I don't want to spoil it. Truly a masterpiece.
If you want to see more of my favorites, check my BOOKMARKS on my Ao3!

okay: top five books that you've read this year (2020); top five nanowrimo plots that you have written cuz you got a great backlog there;
heyyyyyy guuuuuuurl ;)
answers below the cut bc hoooooo boy this got long
top five books: thank u for specifying this year or i would’ve died on the spot lmao. i’ve only read 22 books and im already stressing:
5: When We Were Magic - Sarah Gailey: 6 teen girls with secret magic powers need to hide a body after one of them kills a guy during a botched attempt at prom night sexytimes. Hilarious, gory (side note i LOVE Gailey’s whole Thing about Magically Dividing People Down To Separate Parts, they did it in Magic for Liars too and i find it hilarious and unique and creepy), and all about That Power of Friendship. Hella gay, of course.
4: The Fifth Season - N.K. Jemisin: fantasy novel set in a world with super maxed-out seismic activity, where epic volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are commonplace, and some people have the ability to cause/control/stop them, though they’re feared and reviled unless they work for this special government agency that controls them. Story is split between 3 perspectives: a mother searching for her daughter in the aftermath of a massive quake, a young woman working at that agency, and a child first being recruited. INSANELY good worldbuilding, super dark but absolutely brilliant. The ending BLEW MY MIND!!!! Jemisin is a goddamn genius. First in a trilogy but I haven’t read the rest yet.
3: The Refrigerator Monologues - Catherynne M. Valente: a novella set in this comic-book world filled with superheroes and villains, where various girlfriends who’ve been Fridged (one literally) tell their tales of woe at a coffee shop in Deadtown. Hilarious, witty, with a healthy dose of Valente’s over-the-top and out-of-the-box prose. A super fun exploration of the fridging trope and basically a direct callout @ Marvel and DC.
2: Upright Women Wanted - Sarah Gailey: a novella set in the futuristic wild west where librarians are engaged in an underground fight against the fascist regime. a girl runs away to join the librarians after her best friend/lover is killed, ends up embroiled in some awesome shenanigans. super SUPER gay. actual representation of the States in 50 years. Gailey is my hero.
1: Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered - Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark: a dual memoir by the hosts of My Favourite Murder. One of the only memoirs I’ve actually enjoyed lmao. Anecdotes from their lives that tie into funny quotes they’ve said on the show (though IMO you don’t need to have heard the podcast to enjoy it). It’s like when you’re at a family gathering and your drunk family members start pulling out the whack stories and you just slam your fourth rum and coke like “oh, fuck yes.” Georgia and Karen are the cool vodka aunts I never had and I love them endlessly for it.
top five nanowrimo ideas (thank u, u know i love screaming about these lmao)
5: The one I’m tossing around right now, loosely called the Mermaid/Fantasy Thing. There’s a palace with a mermaid living in the baths(?) and that’s all, folks! check back later when I actually work on this one and have more to offer. I kinda wanna make this a middle-grade story just so I can make the world really crystal-y and pastel and shit but also I can’t not swear so that Could Be Difficult. Maybe adults just need to embrace the She-Ra aesthetic a little more.
4: The Trash Wizard Chronicles. A series of short stories (nano rebel plan, if i ever get up the nerve to rebel) about this (trash) wizard named Tlin (yes that’s a slurring of Tam Lin but it’s a COOL NAME FIGHT ME) who’s banished from the Unseelie court and lives in the city in exile. Follows his escapades in providing wizardly services, balancing his human bank-teller cover with his magical life, and plotting to overthrow the Unseelie royal family while dodge efforts by the almost-worse Seelie court to recruit him. At least one of these is a murder mystery involving a witch who sees ghosts.
3: The steampunk one with the mad scientist who accidentally zaps herself into another world. She’s trying to find a cure for the illness that plagues her and do it before the bastard who left her for dead in the African jungle. Instead, she’s pulled into a medieval world deprived of magic because their supposed leader is a fraud (based off of The Gateway podcast talking about how the repulsive therapist Barbara Snow may have implanted memories of satanic cults in Teal Swan’s brain...mind-blowingly terrifying to hear about). This scientist has to journey with the rebels to depose this fake leader and find the real one before she can be magically sent back (or she can get struck by lightning.....she’ll try anything). Features the peasants from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Guinea Worm Angst, and a lot of Victorian cursing.
2: The one about the paranormal investigator and the thief. Started writing this on Wattpad last summer and gave up quickly because commitment is a bitch. Patricia (paranormal investigator) blackmails Kina (thief) info helping her solve a series of bizarre kidnappings after she catches her breaking into her apartment during some drunken shenanigans. A cute lighthearted lesbian romance. Features a stupid drunken injury, a park that never ends based off of my own terrifying experience of getting lost and walking in a circle for half an hour in Fish Creek last summer, and A Whole Lot Of Lying To The Cops
1: The one about an emo kid in 2009 who is sent to live on her aunt’s farm for the summer, where she meets the neighbours’ girl, who’s obsessed with the Romantics. Themes that discuss the romanticization of “bad” things (emo culture vs the Romantics) and when that can help and hurt (not my opinion, just thoughts). Lots of gardening because that’s my latest obsession. Maybe less Romantics than expected because I’ve just been reminded that i hate poetry! This started as an excuse to redownload every single emo song I ever heard and it remains that. Possible gay romance? Also possible unicorns. Definite goats that are definite assholes. Haven’t written this yet because I keep chickening out because the story won’t have any magic (unless I bend it and do some Moira Fowley-Doyle “was it magical realism or trauma-induced delusion” shit) and Who Am I Without Magic?

a song of the sea (additional notes)
a mess of notes/comments/ideas/expansion on my day 3 fic for giyushinoweek, a song of the sea. :)
- the original idea was to base shinobu off of a stonefish, due to those being one of the most venomous fish in the world, and also their use of spines and stings to administer that venom. They’re not the prettiest fish--maybe a lionfish or something would be more appropriate (lionfish being my second choice) but the lethal spines of the stonefish appealed to me more as shinobu’s weapon, due to her sword/fighting style in canon. i also didn’t do that much research, so if i were to expand the fic i’d probably look into it at least a little more haha.
-giyu is what others in the fic call “sea-touched”; the abilities of those called at such kind of vary, but essentially they all have superior water-related abilities of some kind. giyu has especially good navigation skills and is very good at predicting currents and whatnot. he lives alone by the sea and makes his living as a fisherman and being hired onto bigger ships for his abilities.
-sabito and makomo are alive, but live far away for some reason. urokodaki taught giyu, but is also no longer around (physically, he’s not dead) for some reason too. hadn’t thought this part out that much, even though i’m like, convinced they’re alive here haha. another vein might be that sabito and makomo are also merpeople, hence why giyu lives alone.
-in the same vein of canon, kanao doesn’t speak very much due to trauma, and so she doesn’t use her natural abilities that much.
-the natural abilities of the mermaids/sirens refer to their voice; despite physical combat (which shinobu and kanao are very skilled at) in relation to what kind of mermaid they are, their voices are extremely powerful and can distort the sea and the weather. their voices can lure, and also kill, if the intent is there. this would need more exploration of mechanics and probably something to temper the OP-ness of it. i was also playing with the idea of consequences of using the voice for deeds like what shinobu did--severe interference and destruction. didn’t really have time to fully delve into that possibility.
-oyakata-sama lives in a large house/mansion extremely close to the sea, like he has a private dock kind of thing. he helps when shinobu/mermaids in general come onto land, his family has been sea-touched and particular friends of the sea for generations, and they’ve always assisted in these supernatural affairs. he and his family are also why shinobu is able to integrate fairly easily, to an extent, into human society. he and his family teach her a bunch of things. they’re like....what’s the word....bridgekeepers between the two worlds?? that’s not the word, but you get it.
-kanae is dead in this au, killed by humans. i guess there’s a lowkey parallel of humans in this fic vs the demons in canon. buuuut since shinobu offers giyu her protection, i was thinking the reason why the sister don’t hate humans entirely is because kanae had been friends or in love with a human, but was found out by other humans who had more malicious intentions for her. another vein, in a much more expanded setting, would be that shinobu does hate humans and does hate giyu at first and is far more grudging about offering her protection, but he did save kanao, and so it’s much more of a slow burn.
-if i were to be completely self indulgent, i think it’d be neat if like, shinobu/the sisters were mermaid princesses haha. this also might be why there aren’t really consequences to her using her abilities??
-regardless, the sisters would be the last of their clan/school/type, and they are of the more powerful, if not most powerful, mermaids/sea creatures.
-if you’ve read xxxholic by CLAMP, ideally the protection that shinobu offers would play out like the smaller, episodic stories there, where people come to get their wish granted but it ends up being granted in like...not a way they expect. this would be why shinobu says that giyu may come to regret protection from one such as her; being a mermaid, and a particularly powerful one, she doesn’t have the same values (those i suppose she’d be aware of them, via interaction with oyakata-sama) and perhaps, a certain lack of control over the way protection is granted. like, “magic does not follow the same constraints” kind of thing. although i did really one at least one really dramatic scene where people come to bully/attack/kill giyu because of the wealth he’s accumulating, and shinobu appears and like. rips them apart and it’s really dramatic and kind of gory lmao. the deep sea isn’t a kind place, and shinobu is.....protective.
-also ideally is that this fic would kind of play out like a grimm fairy tale style wise? i kind of didn’t want to run with the threads of like...giyu and shinobu falling in love and one becoming entirely human or mer, or “the little mermaid” esque story where shinobu has to give up her voice to be on land, or the one where she’s captured and kept in a tank and interacted with that way before she’s freed somehow, etc. (all of these are good, i just didn’t want to write them LOL) i guess i wanted more of a coexistence kind of thing? i want there to be a cool exciting dramatic plot, but like, i don’t actually have one. i guess this would end up being like, my usual giyushino bonding exploration except mermaid AU LMAOOOOO
-shinobu appears and goes into town with giyu sometimes. she’s not exactly fascinated by human culture, but she finds it interesting enough. maybe she also begins to sell remedies and stuff, in accordance with her canon doctor position. sea secrets. people probably assume that this mysterious girl has also become giyu’s mysterious wife. (they’re kind of baffled and sort of like, talk around it, so giyu is oblivious to the assumption until much much later. shinobu catches on faster than he does.)
-i think mermaid aus are another thing, like soulmate aus, that i love reading but like, don’t actually want to write myself LMFAO
-wow a lot of this is shinobu focused. again. i just love her ;__;
-that’s all i got for now if for some reason you want to hear more of this.......send me an ask i guess LMAO for something i came up with really quickly to work with the prompt there were a lot of things i considered and wanted as backstory........but i really doubt that i’m going to write this au out in full.......it’s too long in my head for the way i want it to build up and i just..........don’t have the willpower for that................

Writing Quiz
tagged by @ph0ebevix
1) what is your ideal setting for writing?
actually, a really good question.  i have to either be on the move or really in the groove to write well.  something that has also proven to be good is when i’m in class.  but i have a difficult time just sitting there and writing because i can’t seem to focus (i’m trying to get tested for adhd but it’s hard with corona - there are a lot of other factors included), and i have to have something in the background, but my conditions are just so insanely specific and constantly changing so it’s really a wild ride and is more guess-and-check than anything.  but moving around and staying in one place for only a few minutes makes me write best.
2) what is your favorite genre to write?
my favorite genre to write is either tooth rotting fluff or hurt/comfort.  i find smut easy to write and it tends to get more attention than my fluffy fics, so it’s really hard, but i’m a huge huge fan of hurt/comfort and i’m currently writing an angst and hurt/comfort series for haikyuu that will be on my haikyuu account @tkagayama
3) do you prefer writing on paper or digitally?
i do both.  most of the time, i start physically on paper and then i edit by writing digitally, but if i’m doing something like nanowrimo, i write almost solely digitally because i’m just typing into the website and it’s easier for me to do it that way, unless i’m in class and cannot use my phone/laptop.  hell, i’ve even been in gym class and because i always have a pen or marker on me, i’ve written on my arms and legs and even my torso when i got desperate and my teacher was like “what the fuck” and my friend was like “this is-- just a normal occurrence,, don’t question it” and immediately typed it when i got home bc gym was my last class of the day.
4) it’s the middle of the night and you wake up with an idea, what do you do?
depends.  what i try to do is go to my notes app and write as many of the details as i can down and some lines if they come to me, but if i have the entire thing or i literally can’t stop thinking about it, i will just start writing it.  but chances are i’m already up oop.
5) who is your favorite person to write about?
i don’t know.  it always changes.  i’m in a ton of different fandoms, ranging from one direction to harry potter to anime to k-pop, so it’s always sort of changing.  i’ll say for the past few months, it’s been a rotating cycle of stray kids members as well as the haikyuu characters and i have a huge series coming up, like i mentioned before.  that’s been the most fun for me because i can gauge their personalities really well and that shows through in my writing, but i have also been told that my characterization of shane madej and ryan bergara from buzzfeed/unsolved is really good as well.
6) do you like making your own characters or do you usually write about real people?
as someone who does want to be a published author in the future, i thoroughly enjoy writing my own characters as well as writing people that do exist and characters that already exist.  all of them except for three that i can think of off the top of my head are my babies and i will protect my own mind children with my life.  precious babies deserve to be protected, especially reno,, such a babie.  now, if only i could STICK TO MY OWN PLOTS AND NOT WRITE FANFICTION I’LL BE GOLDEN.
7) have you ever written a book or story with more than 15 chapters/100k words?
yes.  my longest fic is currently 45k words (i think, i have to check the google doc again), but i’d rather it would die so i will not be providing links and it is 20 chapters.  i am working on another fic (shyan, can be found on my ao3  and is currently 30k words and is 15 chapters, but will be 21 chapters when i’m done with it).  as for novels, i have about 16 chapters, but planned about 25 or so for a novel i’m putting to the side for now and it resides at about 35k, i forget exactly.
8) how often do you get ideas?
depends.  sometimes something will happen in my life to impact a story idea (like my current one i’m working on that will be uploaded here in a day or two that i mentioned in my last post that will have a sfw and an nsfw counterpart uwu), or i’ll see something and go “i need a story with this in it” or it’ll just happen.  i don’t have them all the time, but i do get more chaptered ideas than one shot ideas, though it doesn’t seem like it because i don’t post everything i write.
9) do you ever get an idea that you really like and just can’t seem to finish?
absolutely.  i have plenty of ideas that i’ve started and lost interest in or can’t continue.  if that’s the case, i take them down because i’m a firm believer in not letting people down with “last updated 3739 years ago,” but if it’s one that i’m just taking forever to write like my shyan fic (going on a year) or the one that i won’t link (took three years to write), i’ll let people know that every once in a while that it’s not forgotten about or abandoned, i’m just having massive writer’s block with the story or the chapter i’m working on, but will eventually come out.
10) what is your least favorite plot?
my least favorite plot to read has to be mythical type stories.  they aren’t done right and are absolute hell to get through (i.e: mermaids, fairies, demons, angels, pirates [not like the actual somalian pirates but the pirates of the carribean-type pirates], etc) and it just sucks oops.  i also don’t like reading overly gory stories but that’s generally just not my cup of tea.  i also really hate reading little/non-sexual age play fics unless it’s done in a hella specific way, but i’ve found very few fics that actually cover it well so i just tend to avoid them like the plague.
my least favorite plot to write as i recently found out, is fighting!  i’m writing a mafia au and you will literally find, like, no fighting in it whatsoever because it’s a bitch to  write and i have no experience (i used to go to the library for fun -- what do you expect), and sports type of fics/stories.  it’s just too hard for me and i don’t understand how most games work and i don’t have the patience to sit there and learn the sport just to write it accurately, soooo... yeah.
11) tag writer friends
i have no writer friends that weren’t already tagged so uwu this is open to anyone that wants to.

WIP and Writing Tag Game
I was tagged by @givethispromptatry Thank you for the tag!
1. Is there any scene from any piece you’ve written that actually scared you? If so, describe the scene.
There aren’t any that have scared me horror movie style, but I did recently write one that made me a little concerned about myself. I cannot describe it, because it’s a bit of a surprise for the people reading the book. (and it’s coming out soon! :D)
2. What genre do you feel most awkward writing?
I don’t enjoy writing anything that is too based in reality. If there’s no magic, or awesome futuristic tech then I get bored really easily.
3. How many different types of writing do you write? Types of writing include novels, short stories, poetry, song lyrics, etc.
Not many, honestly. >_<  I mainly write novels, and short story clips of the characters in those novels. I really like haikus, but I can’t think the word “poetry” without hearing Sabine from Moulin Rouge and then I laugh and can’t think.
4. How old were you when you first starting writing?
Very young. The first short story was about a teen that magically turned into a dolphin and swam away from everything. It made no sense. I finished my first novel (18 chapters, I think) in 7th grade, so that’s when I say I started writing.
5. How confident are you in your writing?
I’m growing more confident lately. Thanks to a good friend of mine, all of y’all, and (mainly) @givethispromptatry. If I had to use a scale, I’d say 5.5/10.
6. Have you ever written and posted anything that was very personal to you?
I don’t think so... I try to keep my personal stuff separate from my writing.
7. What inspired you to start writing?
Twilight. I wanted to write a better one.
8. Which of your OCs do you relate to most?
Umm... Some kind of weird mixture of Ace, Salem, Nyssa, and Isabeau. I guess. I try to not write characters too close to myself, because I don’t think I’m all that interesting.
9. Have you ever written self-insert fan fiction?
No. Only in my head, but I’m really only there to make sarcastic comments.
10. What is your favorite piece you’ve ever written about?
Anything with Karma and Roman working together to agitate someone else. I don’t think I can pick just one.
11. How frequently do you actually sit and write?
I try to write at least once a day.
12. How many hours at a time do you do research on your writing?
A lot. Way too many to count. It’s mainly biblical and mythology stuff, and baby names that have dark or unusual meanings. (Thank you NameBerry :D)
13. Do you like to branch out in your writing or do you tend to stick to what you know?
I’m trying my hand at branching out right now. I have a Sci-fi book that I’m working on right now, that I’m having a blast writing. Not too far though. I love magic.
14. What would your antagonist of your current WIP say to you if they saw you in person?
Something along the lines of “Pathetic human, why protect your domestic canines when you could protect yourself?” Because if I had to face a terrible monster, I would make sure my dogs are safe. Obviously.
15. Do you consider yourself your OCs god or just kind of a guiding hand (Or other? If other, please list)?
I think of myself as a god. Though, there is a god in the book that isn’t me.
16. What do you think you’d be doing with your time if you never got into writing?
I’d like to say I’d put more focus in my business, but right now the accurate answer would be Skyrim and State of Decay 2. I love video games.
17. Have you ever written a smut piece?
Nope. I prefer to allude to it, and then skip to the next day.
18. What was the first thing you ever wrote about?
Beside the terrible dolphin teen I mentioned earlier? The novel was about a girl and her twin who got mixed up with lion-shifters. It was oddly gory for a book written by someone in 7th grade.
19. What is the most creative creature you’ve ever created for world building?
I try to base my characters and species in different types of mythology, so I don’t create very many. I have a few alien species that I’ve created that I’m proud of, but my favorite creatures in any of my stories are The Reapers. They’re a take on the Grim Reaper. There’s just a lot more of them.
20. Tell me one random fact about your WIP that you have yet to tell your followers.
Roman and Ace have two more brothers and together they make up the Four Horseman of The Apocalypse.
Nanami is on the run from the Mermaid government and her Siren parents.
I’m going to tag, @xmaehughes and @stingthescribe

Peter Pan Never Fails
Peter Pan x Mermaid!Reader | Part 4
Summary: Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 5
Fic Type: Peter Pan x Mermaid!Reader Series
Warnings: Profanity
Author’s Note: Four parts... Hope you enjoy. Comment to be added to the tag list.
“Fuck.” Devin muttered, letting his head drop.
Y/N’s eyes were wide with fear. “We- I…” She trailed off.
“Out. Now.” Pan growled.
The mermaid and the lost boy scrambled out of the water, Devin still shirtless and Y/N desperately trying to tug her long shirt to cover her bare legs while covering her chest at the same time, the wet material clinging to her body.
Peter simply scoffed. “I leave for hardly two hours, and this is what I come back to?”  He turned to Devin. “Well, you've seen her. You know what she is. A mermaid.” He spat the last word out with the same tone one would use to describe a good-for-nothing drunk. “You do see what she's done, haven't you?” Pan laughed. “She's lured you in. She doesn't have any feelings for you; you're her prey.”
Devin’s eyes widened, and he turned towards Y/N. “Did you- Was I really…”
She shook her head rapidly, eyes widened with hurt at Pan's accusations.
“She's lying to you.” Pan said in a matter-of-fact voice. “Because that's what mermaids do. They lie to you, lure you in, and then devour you whole. She's just like every other monster out in that ocean.”
---
“I’m not, you know.”
Devin risked looking up, and the moment he did, he regretted it. Between the woven branches of the cage, a pair of eyes sparkled sadly. He set the food he had brought for Y/N down. “No. You’re trying to trick me.”
“Devin, I swear I’m not. I’m not like them. I’m human too.”
He shook his head. “But not human enough.” With those words, he turned and left.
Devin’s words were a direct blow to her heart. The devastating part was that he was right. So painfully right. Heartbroken, Y/N reached a slender hand through the woven slats of the cage towards the food. Carefully, she picked up an apple. She turned it in her hands, and to her surprise there was a message carved in the flesh. I believe you. I’ll break you out tonight. Y/N sighed in relief. He didn’t hate her. But his words still echoed in her mind. Not human enough. He was right. Despite appearance, she stood out to much in other ways to ever fit in. Where there wasn’t land, there was sea, right? Well that was just as dangerous, if not more, than land. The pure mermaids knew. They could tell in an instant that she was an outcast. Even in Neverland, a place for children who don’t belong, she couldn’t fit in. Pan could see it. He had taken and would take every chance possible to exploit her weakness. Her fear that no one wanted her. That no one loved her.
She had never once met anyone who got under her skin as much as Peter Pan. For the most part she ignored him, but on various occasions she was compelled to speak her mind. There were multiple things about him that she disliked, but quite near the top was that he expected to be worshipped like some sort of god. The older boys on the island, save for Devin (but even that was a rare occasion), admired him, murderous acts and all. The younger ones were simply easily influenced. Thankful to Pan for taking them away from their old lives, they followed him with a blind veneration. They believed that the horrible things he did were justified and morally right. It was more than a little sickening that he could force two boys to beat each other nearly to death for his amusement and crown the victor.
Then of course, there was the fact that Pan constantly pointed out the opposite gender’s supposed “inferiority”. He’d always make casual remarks about how much slower and weaker girls were compared to boys. On top of that, whenever there was a hunt he would make her stay behind and do housework. Housework! Because hunting was supposedly a man’s job and considered much to gory for a “lady”. Whenever Pan would make such remarks, the boys would often laugh. What they found so humorous, Y/N could not fathom, especially since she had bested the same group of boys in multiple competitions.
And so, in that moment as she sat curled in the cage, Y/N decided that more than anything she needed to leave Neverland. Because Neverland, though shining in appearance, was a horrid and gruesome place run by a twisted and sadistic boy.
---
“Someone’s jealous.” Felix remarked as he watched Pan return from locking Y/N in a cage.
“I am not jealous. I just don’t want Devin ruining my game.” Peter said with disdain towards the boy who had quite nearly kissed his mermaid.
Felix scoffed. “And what’s the prize for winning this game of yours? The girl? Because after all, you said it yourself, she means nothing to you. So why so up-in-arms about Devin?” When Pan didn’t respond, he went on. “Is it because you want her to be yours alone? Because you don’t want anyone else to have her but you? Because-”
“Felix,” Pan’s voice was cold as liquid nitrogen. (Which is -320 degrees Fahrenheit, btw. Yay science!) “What did I say about asking questions about why the girl is here?”
It wasn’t so much a question as a command to stop talking; Felix got the hint and wisely shut up. The problem was, he wasn’t wrong. Pan knew it. In his attempts to understand her, it seemed that he had picked up other smaller details about her that he found charming. How she bit her lip when she was concentrating, or when she- No. He hated her. She was frustrating, vexatious, and irksome. She plagued his thoughts and was poisoning his mind. But he had to beat her. He would break her. He had already discovered what made her tick, and now all he had to do was disassemble her and put her back together the way he wanted. Because Peter Pan never fails.
“Felix.”
“Yes?”
“I- Nevermind.”
Pan shook his head. The moment Y/N had stepped foot on Neverland soil, he had fallen in love with her. He knew it. Felix was right, he was playing the game to win her love. There was simply nothing else this feeling could be. But he refused to believe it. He refused to admit to himself that he liked her. Because he couldn’t. Peter Pan couldn’t love. Love was a weakness, and he was not weak. He was fearless and dominant. The king of Neverland.
---
After Devin had sprung Y/N from her cage, they trekked across the island, hoping to find a place of hiding from Pan for her. During their hike, they chatted about this thing and that. A slight tropical breeze danced around the island, swirling around them frequently. The darkness made it tricky to maneuver across the untrodden and unfamiliar landscape, which was ridden with roots of trees, branches, and poisonous plants.
“I want to leave.” Y/N opined firmly, standing still under the boughs of a large tree.
“You what?” Devin whipped round.
“I-I can’t stay here, Devin.” Y/N couldn’t meet his eyes. The boy who had rescued her from Pan’s clutches at the risk of his own life. But then again, she had done the same for him. “This place… It’s driving me insane. I can’t stay here.” She repeated, eyes full of desperation.
Devin backtracked to where she stood, both of them oblivious to the figure up in the shadows of the tree. Peter Pan stared down from the boughs of his thinking tree, leaning against the trunk. So the mermaid had escaped with the traitor. He listened silently to their conversation from his hiding place in the darkness.
“Oh Y/N…” Devin wrapped his arms around the girl’s waist as she stared up at him. “I bet I can make you want to stay.” He smirked.
“Oh can you now?” Y/N grinned back, letting her arms wrap loosely around his neck. She bit her lip, blinking innocently up at him.
“Pan was right.” Devin chuckled. “You are a femme fatale.” He kissed the tip of her nose.
Peter was furious. He nearly blasted Devin with a fireball right then and there, but decided that that may be a tad overdramatic. He hadn’t known it, but he had been playing to win her affections ever since she washed up on the shore of Skull Rock. Only for her to fall for someone else? A voice in the back of his mind muttered that being an asshole to her probably hadn’t been the best plan of action, but he waved it away. He hadn’t understood his feelings then. He did now. He watched from his hiding place as a confession fell from her perfect lips. But not for him. No. For Devin. He turned away as his lost boy captured the mermaid, his mermaid, in a kiss. It took all of Pan’s self control to keep from flying down and ripping Devin’s heart out. But he resisted. He was cleverer than that. Pan, for the first time in centuries, had lost his game. Which made him a rather sore loser. But whether or not he liked it, the game was over. And now it was time to reset the board.

At 8 years by local theatre critic, she was discovered when starred into “the twelve days of Christmas” production. However, another one was cast originally but she devised a plan for securing the role. She debuted in film “mermaid” in 1990 as kate, Cher’s character youngest daughter. The Sick Book Tag
Tagged by the always-reading @libraryknight . I promise the url is appropriate. I actually wandered over to my bookshelf for some of these, because I'm the worst with titles. 1. Diabetes - a very sweet book:
I'm not big into full-length fluffy/sweet books, but The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman is one of my jr high favorites about a girl working in essentially a lending library for items. It's a really quick, light, and sweet read with magic, awkward high schoolers, and a little romance that doesn't feel like a forced romantic subplot. (A second place that I thought of at the end of the list is The Dragon's Princess if I remember the title correctly about a very determined princess and a polite dragon who just needs some cleaning. The entire series is an A+ read and hilarious.) 2. Chickenpox - a book that you read once and will not read again:
Oh dear. Most books like this were forced reads for class anyway. Probably the intro to The Scarlet Letter, or for an entire book, As I Lay Dying, the same as @libraryknight. 3. Influenza - a contagious book that spreads like a virus:
In jr high, there was the Hunger Games series that made another comeback as the movies came out. I've read them and wasn't crazy in love, but they aren't bad. 4. The Cycle - a book that you read every month, every year. (I deleted part of this question on accident and it's the app, so I think the end is right.) I don't often reread simply because I want to read all the books and have a tendency to like infinitely long ones. I had a period where I probably read all the Redwall series at least twice, and I know I've read through Harry Potter a couple times. The standalone book I'm most likely to try to reread is The Hobbit though. Also I've read the various Sherlock Holmes stories so many times. 5. Insomnia - a book that kept you up all night:
When I was first allowed to read Harry Potter I would sneak a flashlight into my bed to read so my parents had to keep the books in their room overnight. Recently, I'm also reading Discworld and have definitely stayed up late reading those on my Kindle. (I convinced @libraryknight to read it). 6. Amnesia - a book that’s been forgotten and failed to leave an impression on you: Isn't the whole point that I've forgotten it? At any rate, there was this one series about clay dragons that came to life and this dude named Dave or something? The first book was green. At any rate, I liked the first book but then it got weird fast and now I can't even remember the titles or names. 7. Asthma - a book that took your breath away:
Once again, my 15 most recently read books are the Discworld series (the Watch arc, part of the Death arc, and part of the Witches arc b/c of availability) so it would have to be the humor and worlds in those. Also a little Fablehaven and Eragon just for the vast worlds/magical creatures. 8. Malnutrition - a book that lacked food for thought. I personally don't lean toward books that don't have some food for thought, which I suppose comes with my main genres of fantasy/science fiction with an occasional side of mystery. I suppose, looking at my shelf, A Tale Dark and Grim? I like the book, it just leans less thinky and more mocking fairy tales and being mildly depressing/gory. 9. Motion Sickness - a book that took you on a journey through time and space:
So many short story anthologies I've been reading lately. There were three modern ones- one about witches with stories by Jim Butcher and @neil-gaiman, a fantasy/monster based one edited by @neil-gaiman (if I remember correctly) that had really neat cover art including a sketched mermaid on a black background, and one about Mars with this really cool story about digging a giant hole to attempt to create a breathable atmosphere, and an older one with stories from Asimov and others that has a pink and yellow cover. (Did I mention that I check out most of my stuff from the library, am on the app so can't google things, and am horrible with titles?) At any rate, tagging @moony--the--marauder, @a-fragile-sort-of-anarchy, @quizbowlnerd, @books-are-so-wild, @lauravanarendonkbaugh, @avaantares and anyone else who reads a lot. My forgetting of titles also extends to names/urls occasionally, so if I normal tag you in this sort of thing, do it if you want.
