Hello, hello my little lovelies,

So much to catch up on these days! Everyone all at once seemed to have some type of news to share with me. 

You all know being on the ice is meant to keep us all cool and level-headed, right? There were so many punches thrown at the ice skating event, not just once, not even twice, but three whole times. Eagan Connolly punched Huntsville Daily’s very own Samuel Ahn over what was reportedly, and unsurprisingly, something to do with that missing brother of hers again. If she keeps that attitude up no one is going to be willing to assist her. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, sweetheart. 

Seeming to take a cue from her is that wildchild from the Westfall family, Esther Westfall, who is just as short tempered as ever. They were seen punching one Eldon Harcourt, though he seemed to take it decently well, and didn’t engage into a full brawl. The same can’t be said for Joey Albright who fully attacked Louis Ryan and had to be pulled off him. Not exactly the behavior you’d expect from everyone’s favorite heartthrob but it seems love makes fools of us all. Let’s just hope that Hope Macgillivray is worth it. 

However, not everyone at the ice skating party was quick to come to blows. It seems that there are at least some of you who would rather make love than war. Jackson Miller was spotted getting cozy with Lavender Parsons, ending in what was apparently quite the steamy kiss, if my sources are to be believed. Now I know that some readers may be scandalized by this news, but I for one think it is wonderful that after everything she went through with her mother’s disappearance last year, Miss Parsons seems to be coming into her own as a young woman. All I can say is, be careful out there, men of Huntsville! There’s a new heartbreaker on the rise.

Here’s a toast to one town event being mostly a success with no serious incidents. Hopefully this is the start of a new and lighter year for all of us.

“Really? You think I’m that stupid?”

“Lola, please,” Nathaniel rasps, his mouth dry. “I feel like… I’m gonna throw up.”

“You’d better not.”

“Lola, for God’s sake.” Romero says, turning in his seat to look at them. “If he dies before we get him home, Nathan’ll be pissed. Besides, it’s a hundred degrees in this motherfucker and I don’t wanna have to smell steaming puke all the way to the airport.”

Lola’s nostrils flare at Romero’s harsh tone, but she knows he’s right on both counts. She considers giving in, Nathaniel can tell by the way her face pinches in annoyance. She gives him another long look before making up her mind. “Fine. I’ll roll it down. But just mine. Not the one on your side.”

Lola leans to the side so she can mash the right-side window button and her grip on Nathaniel’s arm loosens quite a bit, which is precisely what he’d hoped for. He nearly takes his shot. Nearly makes the mistake of pulling away.Then he notices Lola watching him like a hawk from the corner of her eye. Oh. It’s a test. 

She’s expecting it. She wants him to try something. She wants a reason to knock the shit out of him. Nathaniel won’t give it to her. He just stays still and flicks his gaze to the dash to check the GPS. The bridge is still a bit away. By the way traffic is crawling, he has no idea how long he’s got to get out of here but it has to be soon or he’ll miss his chance.

Sora was following after Phoenix, after having spent the night at the Fire Station with him and Dahlia. He had his hands stuffed in his pockets and was gnawing nervously at his lower lip. The run down he'd been given had been enough to almost send him into a panic attack, thankfully he had his medication in his bag at the time. Phoenix had gone with him on his motorcycle come morning, proving there was no way out which had almost sent him into another panic.

Now here they were, having spent the night explaining who he was and why he was in town. Phoenix cleared his throat making Sora glance at him before the man nodded with his head at an office door with the label Dr.Romero-Walker on it. Swallowing he managed a smile for Phoenix, who gave him an encouraging one back. Walking in he gave a nervous wave to Hawk, "Uh...hi. I'm uh...I'm Sora...um, Mrs. Cruz-Dutton said she called ahead to let you know I was coming?" He doesn't think she mentioned why, but that was partially because Sora wanted to tell him himself. "Uh so...this might be kind of crazy...but um. So my mom said my bio dad's name is Hawk Romero...so unless there's another one in the family, I guess that means it's you. So, uh hi?"

-Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary short story compilation: since only one of the stories is queer, I'm not going to include it. This is absolutely arbitrary, I realize, but for short story collections, I'm looking for them to be mostly queer.

-Two Tuns of Fun: I couldn't find any book by this name.

-Two Mummies / Two Daddies (kids picture books): are these individual books? I couldn't find anything with these exact titles.

-Beating Heart Baby and The Priory of the Orange Tree were already queued (they were both in my initial batch of queued books prior to going live with the blog).

The google form is a good idea and something I'll consider! At the moment, it doesn't save me any work, and actually creates more. I would need to check every submission anyway to make sure it's correct and in the format I want it in. Currently I've got a Google Sheets spreadsheet with all books (both queued and posted) for people to check if their suggestion has already been submitted. Thanks for the idea, though!

A Warning About Swans by R.M. Romero

Swan Lake meets The Last Unicorn by way of the Brothers Grimm in a dreamy, original fairytale by critically acclaimed author R.M. Romero.

Bavaria. 1880. Hilde was dreamed into existence by the god Odin and, along with her five sisters, granted cloaks that transform them into swans. Each sister’s cloak is imbued with a unique gift, but Hilde rejects her gift which allows her to lead the souls of dying creatures to the afterlife.

While guiding the soul of a hawk, Hilde meets the handsome Baron Maximilian von Richter, whose father left him no inheritance. The last day of the Faire, the sky was overcast, with rumbles of thunder in the far distance. As Mayor Nat stepped up to the podium set up in front of town hall, a small crowd gathered to hear the announcement. She proceeded to declare Pandora Flowers as the winner of the costume contest, and withdrew the sword to present to the winner of the tournament, Morgan Vovk.

Before she could, though, Quinn Buckley from the commune ran up on stage and grabbed the microphone from the podium.

“Listen! You have to listen. This, all of this, is because of a being far greater than us! It sent the creatures from the woods to test us! To separate the weak from the strong. It judges us because it wants us to be ready before it reveals itself. We have to listen! We have to—“

Sheriff Henry attempted to take the microphone from her, but she struggled against him, still shouting into the microphone.

“It’s real! I felt its presence! Those that listen will be saved!”

Thunder rumbled, closer than before, much closer. A loud crack of lightning illuminated the sky, blindingly bright. Beyond the clouds, briefly visible in that split second, loomed a shape, unrecognizable and massive, both bulbous and gangly. As quickly as it appeared it was gone, and what remained was the sizzling body of Tristan Wilde, struck by the lightning. The sky opened up, then, as thunder boomed directly above, and rain and hail pelted the town.

“It’s there! You all saw it! It’s real! We have to submit!” Quinn wailed, as Henry attempted to pull her off the stage. “I can prove it! I can walk amongst them untouched! I’ve been chosen! You can be chosen too!”

Her cries fell away in the deafening downpour, and those that had gathered scattered to find shelter in the nearest buildings. Whether or not they saw something or, if they did, if they believe what they saw, remains to be seen.

The storm raged on through the night, as the creatures wandered the streets unperturbed by the rain and hail. The lights of the town flickered and then, as lightning staggered across the sky, everything went dark.

(Those that ran to find shelter found themselves stuck for the night. Below you’ll find the (randomly selected) groups. You can choose for your characters to have seen the shape in the sky, to have not seen it, or to have seen it and not believe it.

Everyone can continue/finish their event threads, as all this took place on the final day of the Faire (the 29th). You may also time-jump threads, headcanon threads, or make new threads for the plot drop. The event officially ends on August 5th, at which time please do not make any more event starters, however you can continue all threads until completion.)

Korai: Makes sure to compliment you on things you insecure about, specifically your height if its one! As someone who was always shorter then everybody he knows what its like to be made of. For all my tall gals out there, he does not understand why being a tall girlie is bad and flexes that he picked up a taller lady 😎

Romero/Aran: If he sees you upset he will come up behind you and rub his stubble on your shoulder/neck because he knows it makes you laugh and he throws in a kiss too <33

Tendou: If your a sweets fan then he makes sure to perfect your fav sweet recipe but even if you like things that are more savory/salty/spicy he will take a lesson to help him learn how to bake/cook it for you <3

Hinata: always making up nicknames for you! He never sticks to one in particular and he’s always trying to find more and more. For example, he once called you his “adorable pillow pet” just because you were so comfy to lay on 🥰

Ushijima: this man is the best listener. You can run home and tell him everything and he will never once miss a detail. He even provides feedback and asks questions 😭

Daichi: no matter what and I mean NO MATTER WHAT he will always greet you with a kiss and ask you how your day was when he first walks in the door. He’s so considerate.

Aizawa: best cuddle buddy ever. Who needs squishmallows when you have a whole man to cuddle up too

Kirishima: Always has your back no matter what! Even if you say 2+2=5, Kirishima will be right there, working out the math to prove your point!

Bakugo: he does self-care nights with you! Face masks, hair masks, pedicures, the whole nine yards! He also will totally shop Ulta and Sephora like a pro 💅

Hello little lovelies!

We all know Bucky's Diner. We all love Bucky's Diner. Now with that out of the way, can we please, please discuss the waitress staff at Bucky's Diner. One girl went on a full on rant about one of the young men in this town. Unfortunately, the name was not caught, but it seems she has very bitter feelings against this man. Hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned. It does lead me to wonder who it could be. My sources tell me she was recently spotted with Theodore Collins. Though he's such a sweet boy, so I have no idea what he could be doing out with Samantha Thompson.

Then again, he may no longer be as sweet as he once was. Men do have a way of losing their minds around a pretty thing in a tight outfit. Our own Officer Vovk seems to have entertained Mister Theodore for a late night cap. With how much she's been frequenting The Sasquatch, not to mention visiting beds all over our fair town, it's not much of a surprise her parents didn't see her as a capable mother.

Speaking of parenthood, it seems a Happy Father's Day will be needed for a newly discovered father in town. A little birdy informed me the Romero clan has once again grown by one. How fortunate for everyone that she followed her father's profession. May I be the first to congratulate our own Doctor Hawthorne Romero on the reunion with his daughter Doctor Zelda Rowan-Romero. I'm sure his partners will be more than thrilled to help him ease into this transition. Who knew we'd have our own sequel to Three Men and a Baby right here in our little town?

So, those are the updates I've been given, and here is where I should tell you to send anything else you have for next time. Some of you may even be angry while reading this, wondering why this column exists, why this gets printed. My response to that is to ask: who do you trust? That is a genuine question I ask of all of you. I don't go out looking for this information. Once upon a time, this was an advice column, but now we're stuck and we pass the time by reading about other people's petty problems.

Who do you trust with your secrets? Who do you trust with your life? I've been asking myself that since news of Evora Kaplan's passing. Who are we meant to trust in this godforsaken town? She was a good person, and a damn good journalist, and they were passionate about every piece they wrote. Now she's gone, and it's not hard to speculate why - why someone would want someone like them to be silenced.

I don't have the answer to these questions. Maybe if I was more like them I could find out. Maybe if I was brave like her, I would keep digging and not stop until I discovered the truth. What I do know is that we lost someone very special this week.

I know that, and I know that this column isn't going anywhere. It may not be the way they would have done it, but I'll keep sharing the news as it comes my way, and I'm willing to bet more than a few of you will keep enjoying it. Be safe out there, lovelies, and may Evora Kaplan's memory be a blessing to all of us.

Rainn's bus was as comforting and peaceful as one would might expect. It was whimsical in its own right but not overwhelming, acting as a vehicle to transport patients away from whatever was out there and offer a space for them to focus on just what was going on in the bus. On the little table there was things to keep peoples hands busy and on the floor there were pillows for lounging next to a couch to sit or lay on, whatever would be most comfortable. That was the first step after all, especially for clients like Hawk Romero: simply getting him comfortable enough to talk freely and without worry. Establishing this space as a safe space (for as cliché as it sounded) was paramount. It wouldn't happen in a day. It would take however long Hawk needed.

"Dr. Romero! Please come in." He motioned for Hawk to sit wherever he pleased, "Can I get you something before we start? Tea, water, coffee?" The back window of the bus was open but obscured by trailing vines and beads for privacy, pleasant breeze lazily blowing through the chamber to keep it cool. Rainn himself sat criss cross applesauce on a soft ottoman, small mug of steaming tea on a little stool next to him, a nondescript and non invasive notebook on a knee. He would start where he started with everyone.

Phoenix finished washing his hands, he and Dahlia had moved Matt as gently as they could to one of the beds that had once been used by the station members to sleep. They'd converted long ago the garage into a makeshift medical area, considering they didn't need to have the vehicles inside all the time. Together with Dahlia they'd managed to clean up most of the mess that had been made in patching up Matt.

All that was left was inventory and putting away the extra supplies. Hearing the door that led from the sleeping area swing open, he spotted Hawk walking in. Glancing at Dahlia she gave him a reassuring squeeze on the arm before walking past Hawk, mumbling about checking on their patient. "Hey um...you got enough gauze at home? You could take some from here just to save you any trips...or we could grab anything to do a drop off if you want."

Sora's parents were taking a break when his mom had a one night stand with a guy from out of town. Other than his name and a mention of his hometown there wasn't much else to it. Her and her boyfriend worked things out not long after, when she found out she was pregnant. The two got married before Sora was born and for the most part there wasn't anything eventful in his life.

When he was trying to decide what to do after high school he opted to follow his dad's career and started training to be a paramedic. Getting a wrestling scholarship to help pay for college, it was during a match that he collapsed on the mat. Waking up at the hospital with his parents worrying over, is how he found out he had a heart condition. It was manageable with medication and keeping track of any extreme stressors, though the doctor mentioned it was likely genetic. It was while his parents were getting tested that they found out Sora wasn't biologically related to his dad.

It was a lot to process for the whole family, while his dad wasn't happy about it, he loved his wife and son so wouldn't change anything. After talking with his mom more, Sora had his bio dad's name along with a vague description. When they tried looking him up, his last job hadn't heard from him in years but mentioned Huntsville as where the rest of his family lived. Letting his parents know he was headed there, Sora got on his bike ready to drive in to try and find Hawthorne Romero.

The reason Sora wanted to find Hawk was due to his heart condition being genetic. He wanted to let him and any relevant family members know of the chance that they may have it as well.

To manage his heart condition Sora wears a watch with a heart rate monitor as well as takes medication. Though he's aware he's going to need to find a substitute soon for when he runs out.
