Hello, hello my little lovelies,

So much to catch up on these days! Everyone all at once seemed to have some type of news to share with me. 

You all know being on the ice is meant to keep us all cool and level-headed, right? There were so many punches thrown at the ice skating event, not just once, not even twice, but three whole times. Eagan Connolly punched Huntsville Daily’s very own Samuel Ahn over what was reportedly, and unsurprisingly, something to do with that missing brother of hers again. If she keeps that attitude up no one is going to be willing to assist her. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, sweetheart. 

Seeming to take a cue from her is that wildchild from the Westfall family, Esther Westfall, who is just as short tempered as ever. They were seen punching one Eldon Harcourt, though he seemed to take it decently well, and didn’t engage into a full brawl. The same can’t be said for Joey Albright who fully attacked Louis Ryan and had to be pulled off him. Not exactly the behavior you’d expect from everyone’s favorite heartthrob but it seems love makes fools of us all. Let’s just hope that Hope Macgillivray is worth it. 

However, not everyone at the ice skating party was quick to come to blows. It seems that there are at least some of you who would rather make love than war. Jackson Miller was spotted getting cozy with Lavender Parsons, ending in what was apparently quite the steamy kiss, if my sources are to be believed. Now I know that some readers may be scandalized by this news, but I for one think it is wonderful that after everything she went through with her mother’s disappearance last year, Miss Parsons seems to be coming into her own as a young woman. All I can say is, be careful out there, men of Huntsville! There’s a new heartbreaker on the rise.

Here’s a toast to one town event being mostly a success with no serious incidents. Hopefully this is the start of a new and lighter year for all of us.

"If I'm there to catch you when you fall- You'll have a friend down in Hell after all..." The last week had been. Weird, to say the least, busy, marked with work- restoring the intranet, checking on injured friends and looking after Russell to lighten Sissy's load- It had been almost an act of desperation, radioing G and Wren to see if they had the time to sit around and play something, anything, to pass the time, to latch onto a little normalcy around the stress of trying to 'live in the after' for what felt like the hundredth time that year. They were down a few members, Cyan and G slumped onto a dirty couch in the Romero garage, feet propped up and guitars across their laps, Wren absently playing a wooden box between her feet for percussion- it was a break from reality.

Reality comes creeping alongside Hunter Hilton, who is also creeping further out of town than Cyan tends to see him. "And if you're there to catch me when I fall- Then maybe Hell ain't so bad-" He lifts a hand, waving slightly to quiet the instruments. "You lost, Hilton?" Comes the question, a raised brow over sunglasses quickly tucked into his hair. "If you're trying to round two Mo, he's not here." Word traveled fast, it seems.

"Wren," Val called out as she knocked on the door, loud enough that it could be heard into the van, but not so loud that it carried out into the street around them. Currently, the band was at the tail end of a stealth mission to smuggle Wren's festival outfit from her place to the van and then onto her body with her dad being none the wiser—a plan that had so far gone off without a hitch, or at least without any major hiccups. "You almost done in there?" she asked, adjusting her horns. "We gotta get moving before your dad accidentally rounds the corner. Z promised to keep him away for as long as possible but there's only so much a blonde in a slutty pirate outfit can do."

Bite Club Gang:

A little something about the Bite Club, they are a group of (mostly) girls and nbs in their 20s started by Sawyer and Lilith. They all wear matching jackets and have no issues throwing their fists around for the right cause. Sawyer always makes sure they all have working bicycles they can use to get around town as a group. They hang out but also so certain things in the community to help those who need it, for example helping vulnerable people get home before dark, fighting off any creeps from those who can't defend themselves, and making deliveries for the elderly who can't do so themselves.

Full Name: Draven Samuel Bowers Birthday: July 13 Age: 21 Hunter or Gatherer: Neither Sexuality: doesn't know or care Height: 5'8 Relationship Status: single

Growing up, Draven had been a pretty happy kid. A single child, his parents spoiled him rotten, giving him anything and everything he could have asked for. Extremely outgoing despite his bratty tendencies, he could most often be found with Wren Romero for the first few years of his life. The Bowers household wasn't too far from the Romero property, so it wasn't unusual to see Draven biking over to spend time with someone else - even if he didn't always get his way.

How or why he imprinted on Salem Salazar was anyone's guess, but if she was in the vicinity, he'd follow her around like a little shadow, asking her all kinds of questions and just generally being an annoying kid, though she rarely seemed to mind. She was the only person outside of his parents he would insist on helping him with homework, even if she definitely had better things to do.

The Paradox shook up everyone's life, of course, and the first few months were scary, but tolerable. However, shortly after Draven turned eleven, his parents were slaughtered by the monsters just a few feet beyond their front door. Night had come quicker than he anticipated, and while his mother managed to push him inside and close the door, she hadn't been so lucky. He was found by Clara, completely shell shocked and barely speaking, but was quickly taken in by Salem, even though she was barely an adult herself.

For the first few years after his parents death, Draven was absolutely insufferable. He didn't do well in school and he cycled between being very sweet to extremely bratty to Salem for no reason other than he was feeling too much and didn't know how to process the grief. He always apologized, and still has no idea why Salem opted to put up with him instead of asking someone older to take him instead - he would have deserved it, too.

Around the time he was sixteen, the pair settled into a more comfortable sibling life balance - while often still bratty, Draven was no longer mean to Salem when he couldn't regulate his own emotions. Instead he would just lock himself in his room and not talk to anyone for hours and occasionally days on end. He loves Salem as if she were his sister, despite preferring life as an only child, and often sarcastically refers to her as mom when she says something he doesn't like.

Outside of Salem, Draven still has a pretty large friend group, because he needs to be social or he will die (for legal purposes this is a joke). He loves the company of others and likes it even better when he gets his way, but it's not a prerequisite of being his friend. He's very quick thinking on his feet, but also very stubborn if he decides he really does not want to do something.

Review: What We Harvest by Ann Fraistat Rating: 4/5

I usually steer clear of zombie books - a bad experience with a George Romero movie scarred me for life - but the premise of this captivated me. It turned out to be a unique, creepy little horror story about a farming town afflicted by a blight that is more than it appears. Wren was a strong, brave leading lady and the magical lore was awesome - a great allegory for the dangers of increasing production under capitalism, if you wanted to read that into it. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a standalone horror novel that is creepy without being overly gory.

It's a while after spotting her at first that G eventually hustles over to interrupt Josie's conversation, dark hair pulled back into a bun at the back of his head and smile warm, despite the way his costume actively communicates the freezing cold, frostbitten nose and frozen over patches on flannel and jacket- The Shining- it had been easy, once they both knew the other had an affinity for King, to decide on a costume to wear together. "Sorry- I uh, was doing something. You look great!" He's not as nervous, after a little bit of time, tattooed fingers shifting to lace in hers for a moment before pulling her into him, slinging an arm over her shoulders. "I would have met you at your place but I accidentally roped myself into helping move stuff around for the haunted houses. Yanno. because I'm so so very strong." He lifts his free arm in a mock-flex, nothing particularly impressive to show in the action. He leans down, sets a kiss on her temple then her lips softly. "The band's kicking around somewhere, but if Mr. Romero sees Wren he's gonna have a heart attack and I don't wanna watch him kick the bucket." he chuckles. "You got any ideas for what you wanna do for the pumpkin contest?"

you are cordially invited to a good ol' fashioned Valentine's Day Hoedown! an event for couples and singles to get together and just have fun and perhaps forget our struggles for a little while. there will be square dancing, line dancing, and swing dancing, as well as some more modern music picks for the young ones.

food and drink will be available, as well as a cake walk, a pie eating contest and jam contest. we will have a haystack for photos, and a caricature artist.

in the spirit of the holiday, we have pre-paired individuals together for the night with matching numbered wristbands. perhaps sparks will fly?

we plan to be out of the dance hall by 5pm, plenty of time to get home before dusk.
