So much to catch up on these days! Everyone all at once seemed to have some type of news to share with me. 

You all know being on the ice is meant to keep us all cool and level-headed, right? There were so many punches thrown at the ice skating event, not just once, not even twice, but three whole times. Eagan Connolly punched Huntsville Daily’s very own Samuel Ahn over what was reportedly, and unsurprisingly, something to do with that missing brother of hers again. If she keeps that attitude up no one is going to be willing to assist her. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, sweetheart. 

Seeming to take a cue from her is that wildchild from the Westfall family, Esther Westfall, who is just as short tempered as ever. They were seen punching one Eldon Harcourt, though he seemed to take it decently well, and didn’t engage into a full brawl. The same can’t be said for Joey Albright who fully attacked Louis Ryan and had to be pulled off him. Not exactly the behavior you’d expect from everyone’s favorite heartthrob but it seems love makes fools of us all. Let’s just hope that Hope Macgillivray is worth it. 

However, not everyone at the ice skating party was quick to come to blows. It seems that there are at least some of you who would rather make love than war. Jackson Miller was spotted getting cozy with Lavender Parsons, ending in what was apparently quite the steamy kiss, if my sources are to be believed. Now I know that some readers may be scandalized by this news, but I for one think it is wonderful that after everything she went through with her mother’s disappearance last year, Miss Parsons seems to be coming into her own as a young woman. All I can say is, be careful out there, men of Huntsville! There’s a new heartbreaker on the rise.

Here’s a toast to one town event being mostly a success with no serious incidents. Hopefully this is the start of a new and lighter year for all of us.

Ward rubbed at his face, spending the early day with Olivia and Zarina had been more emotionally loaded than even he was ready for. Add in the keys that he was clutching in his bad hand and he was having a time. He was grateful Oliver had Ava currently and was doing some type of activity with her. Giving a small nod to Marisol de la Luna when he walked by her and Sam's booth, his grip tightening on the keys. He missed photography but she'd get more use out of the camera than he would these days, any interest he'd once had in the hobby buried under his new apathy.

Taking a seat on a bench he'd closed his eyes for barely a second before almost jumping out of his skin when he found himself with a lap full of Kirby. Marisol was not a complete stranger to alcohol, but she would be hard pressed to claim that she had a lot of experience with drinking—and judging from the taste of the moonshine mixed with fruit juice in her glass, she could tell why that was. "Smooth," she said sarcastically while scrunching her face up in mild disgust, shaking her head and dumping even more juice into her glass. It was her first birthday since Gizmo had moved out of the house and she had practically insisted on doing a sibling sleepover. She missed living with them, but she could tell he was happy living with Eagan.

"Hey, do you remember when I was like seven or eight years old? And you'd wake up in the middle of the night and find me sleeping at the foot of your bed because I didn't want to be alone?" She looked over at her big brother. "Did I ever thank you for that?"

Avery had been making her way around the festival, swiping small things that caught her eye that she liked. She’d never been able to choose her own belongings with Sir, so having so many things just laid out in front of her, she couldn’t help herself.

When she got to a booth covered in photography, she stopped to admire it, shifting to the side as others came up to do the same. When she thought nobody was looking, she tried to slip a photo off the display to pocket it.

BIOGRAPHY

Marisol was born to a single teenage mother in the lower class district. Her mother, Celia, was 17 years old at the time of her birth. She has never met her biological father and she frankly does not care to either.

At the time, her uncle Gizmo was only 6 years old. He was more like a sibling to her than an uncle, and if asked, she will say that they're her big brother.

Her mom met her stepfather, Cal, when she was 3 years old. That is the only dad she's ever known, and the only one she calls her dad, because he is the one who helped raise her. They also welcomed her little brother, Felipe, into the family when she was 5 years old. He's a little shit, but she loves him to death.

She was diagnosed with ADHD shortly after starting school. Her parents helped her set up regular routines and reminders to help her with her day-to-day life, and that made a difference, but not enough for her to stay on top of things. She started struggling with anxiety because she felt unable to function properly.

At first, she was treated for her anxiety, until another doctor pointed out that she was likely to feel better and fare better long-term if they instead treated the root cause. Her family was no longer struggling financially, at least not as much as they had been when she was born, but they were by no means wealthy. And drugs aren't cheap, especially when you need to take them regularly. (And when the company who makes them have a monopoly on the market.)

She was offered a spot on a clinical trial for a cybernetic enhancement that replicates the effects of both slow release and instant release Adderall without the need for the drug itself. It helps her ability to focus in general, while also giving her an extra boost when needed. It is also completely intuitive; once she had the procedure, she didn't need to do anything other than maintenance.

It was relatively straightforward, it drastically improved her quality of life, and the cost to maintain it is manageable. However, unlike a drug, she cannot simply ween herself off it if she no longer wants the treatment—or the association with the company who produces it. And because it was a clinical trial, the expertise in maintaining it has not yet spread extensively outside the official channels.

Her experience with her own enhancement, as well as the experiences of other people around her in the lower class district, is what made her interested in both cybernetics and activism. She studies cybernetics at the university, where she has become a prominent participant in student-driven activism.

Her work has made her a familiar face within the activist group at large. She is very honoured to be considered a rising star, but also intimidated by the idea of people seeing her as a leader, when she's not sure that's who she wants to be.

In spite of her role, she has befriended and developed a crush on a boy named Jaiden West, which is... Unfortunate for her, seeing as he is very much entrenched in the corporate life that she is actively and openly opposing.

Luego de la función del 10 de julio se propone un conversatorio con las artistas. 👸 Ojalá que al ocaso tengas compañía, se presenta el 19 y 20 de julio, obra de la Compañía Médula Danza, con coreografía y dirección de Carla Picón, está interpretada por Andrea Zamora, Andreína Dueñas, Fabián Henostroza, Héctor Quispe, Melisa Luna, Pierina Bullón, Sebastián Cornejo y Taty Correa. La pieza explora la paleta de colores de la vida, desde el amor hasta el dolor, y cómo estas experiencias nos enriquecen.

🎯 El humor y el sarcasmo están presentes en El presidente más feliz, que va el 23 y 24 de julio, bajo el concepto y la dirección de Cristina Velarde. Lui is the fourth born Reyes Ortega sibling, up until he was ten years old, he like the rest of his siblings, had thought that he was Vero's twin brother. When the eldest of the siblings ran off, the twins tried to stop him, asking him to stay and help with the family. Their older brother on his way out decided to burn all bridges, letting it slip that Lui and Vero were affair babies from both sides. Lui the result of their mother having an affair whereas Vero was from their father's own affair. Also bringing in the realization they weren't related by blood.

In any other family this might have been a breaking point, but they were nothing if not resilient. Celia at 13 managing to keep the family together despite it all. His dynamic with Vero also didn't change, they still shared a birthday and siblings, so as far the family was concerned they were still the twins. While talking things over with Vero, the concept of gender came up, the two admitting being envious of the other in that respect.

A few conversations later and the two simply opted to switch their names along with their wardrobe. They managed to keep it mostly under wraps that they'd switched until Celia gently confronted them to ask how they wanted to move forward. After that Lui was officially Lui to the family and now the 2nd son in the family. Considering the family lacked any real male role models he felt a lot of pressure to be a good role model for the youngest sibling, Mo. Even greater pressure when Celia's boyfriend abandoned Felipe.

While he would have liked to study music in school, he doubted that be a career that would help pay the bills. Especially with his mom running away from the family, later finding out she'd reconnected with Lui's biological dad and opting to have a solo life with him. It didn't help that less than a few years later they gained another mouth to feed when Mo's dad dumped Marisol on their doorstep.

Opting instead to go to trade school alongside Vero, while it was out of town it was close enough they could come and help out when needed. Being a plumber had never been the dream, but it was a stable career which was about all he could ask for. He was in the middle of his training when the weekly phone call from home never came. Opting to follow Vero home to check in on everyone, which now over a decade later still has him in town, but hey the family is still resilient.

When they were in middle school Lui and Vero switched places at school, using every trick in the book to keep it under wraps. Eventually Celia caught on and made the change official for their family, though only those in their close circle know about the switch.

At 18, Celia took the twins to legally change their names along with their gender markers. Before this they'd been going out of town for gender affirming care thanks to a non profit organization.

While he considers all his siblings except their eldest brother to simply be his siblings, nothing half about it. Marisol is the exception in he calls her his niece, opting to be an uncle figure rather than an older brother.

University of the Metroplex

What was once formerly known as the University of Texas at Dallas, is now one of the top schools for those wanting to study the arts and various STEM fields. The Big Three are some of the largest donors to the school, along with conducting regular scouting for future employment. As far as the general public is concerned the Skyport Mafia has no control over the school. Though there are more than a few students and faculty members who seem to be personally funded by them. Citizens Uprising hosts regular workshops and flyer handouts to gain more support and promote their cause.

❖ Gizmo barely remembers their birth mom, she left not long after their eldest sister Celia, became pregnant while in high school. They were only 6 at the time Marisol was born, her being more of a little sister to them than a niece. ❖ Growing up Celia was simply mom to him, he knew she did her best to get his birth father to come around but he always had an excuse. Eventually fully signing away his rights by the time Gizmo was 8. The timing, depending on who you asked, couldn't have been better, Celia met Cal de la Luna and eventually he fully joined their family. ❖ At first Gizmo was apprehensive, the first time they actually lashed out about Celia not technically being their mom. Both were patient and while he got into his fair share of trouble in school over it, by the time his younger brother Felipe was born he'd come to fully accept Cal as his dad and made amends with Celia. ❖ With Cal around things did get financially easier but they weren't exactly rolling in money. Gizmo worked various odd jobs throughout the years, and watching his sister go through her clinical trial cemented what he wanted to study. That and they knew a career as a doctor could help provide for their family. ❖ He's currently in his final year of pre med and looking for where he'll do his residency. School though isn't cheap and currently he's under a scholarship provided by Epsilon Labs. So while he'd rather be a doctor somewhere more accessible to the lower class he's aware that it's likely he'll end up working in corporate before ever being able to step foot into a public hospital.

Karma was not scheduled to work that day, but she had been hanging around the dancehall to bug Neptune and Jovi, until she inevitably had to let them go do their actual job. Entering the main hall just as a class was wrapping up, she debated helping herself to a drink at the bar when she saw Celia and Marisol talking to someone she hadn't seen before. Curious, she cocked her head to the side before sauntering up to them as the de la Lunas left, managing to catch the man before he could follow suit.

"Hey, grab a drink with me," she said, looping her arm around his and all but dragging him to the bar with her. "I don't recognise you, which means either you're new or we don't hang out in the same circles. Aaaaand I think you and me should fix that."
