I see people talking about how Dahlia is fragile and calling her a girlfailure and all that and I mean I don't disagree but the thing is. You need to understand that she's not fragile in a frail way. She's fragile like a bomb about to go off she's fragile in the way that honeybees die when they sting. Dahlia isn't a genius mastermind or a pathetic little girl with no agency. She's a self fulfilling prophecy who drove herself to destruction because she never got to see that there were other ways to live than to fight her way to the finish line. DO YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYING this is why the ending of Trials and Tribulations fucks me up

I’m convinced that the Seventh Doctor is one of the most powerful characters in all of fiction. Not “The Doctor” but the “Seventh Doctor” very specifically.

He’s incredibly funny conceptually and I cannot get over it. I’m baffled by his existence. He is walking proof that The Doctor doesn’t need to be always just some guy in a box. He has 4 main enemies and none of them are iconic Doctor Who villains. His greatest foes are his own intellect, the literal embodiment of evil, an abstract bounty hunter that has reality warping powers and Thatcherism. Does he fear a God? One of his schemes against a great enemy involves weaponising RPF fanfiction and I’m being completely serious. Every Doctor references 4’s speech in Genesis Of The Daleks while pretending this little man doesn’t exist. I guarantee that if he was in Midnight, the episode ends in 10 minutes. He has either tricked the entity into combustion or has instructed Ace and Hex to batter it to death with baseball bats. The episode runs at full length only if he gets bored but instead ends with a full doxxing of its identity.

I’m not a powerscaler, but if I were, this man would not be on the fucking scale. Do you really think that most anime characters would clock him as the main threat? He’s playing the fucking spoons and tottering around, he has misdirected everyone so hard that people are just forgetting that he still hasn’t explained (I’m only at Death In The Family) why the fuck the TARDIS is in a different colour. Even if let’s say, he’s bisected by Sukuna or obliterated by Saitama, he will come back. Somehow, SOMEHOW, be it one hour or literal decades, he would have resurrected and would giggle and completely wipe your existence from History. Warping reality cannot save you, he has already won. Keep in mind that the only reason that he actually died and regenerated was because he got super unlucky, that even after getting pelted by bullets BY ACCIDENT that what took him out was a fucking defribrillator BY ACCIDENT and also somewhat BY MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE. Nobody is doing is doing it like him. As I type this, I literally cannot think of a way that my favourite characters could actually kill him permanently. Like what do you do if you see him? Why does he just…know things other Doctors don’t? What even is he?

Of course with Mathias being a bratty bottom, you should expect a domtop Leon to complete (😏) him. ❤️ My guy did not cut off ties with the Church, saying goodbye to his whole life and wealth in order to save his beloved, went through hell and fought all those monsters and his own vampire Lord just to be perceive as a submissive bottom who can't use his sword. Mask of Tragedy

The Seventh Doctor takes Ace and Hector to 421 BC, Athens for some rest and relaxation. Ancient Greece is a temporal hotspot for vacationing time travels and the Doctor is hoping to sponsor a show by Aristophanes, but since when has the Doctor ever been able to take a break.

This adventure puts a bit of a more serious spin on an idea Big Finish has previously played for comedy. The idea that some points in history are just places where anyone with a time machine would go, so the locals have gotten used to it. The average person might think of time travelers as odd tourists, but the higher ups know that aliens and future men walk the streets. We even get to see some tension in the adventure’s villain Cleon, the leader of Athens, who wants to leverage aliens to win his wars and control the people. We also see it in Aristophanes, who is the father of all comedy, but in his time is something of a hack. The Doctor supports him because he knows the impact he’ll one day have. It makes for a fun setting, and one that is played up by things like Ace acting as a Greek chorus and trying to lead a feminist revolution. That said, the comedy does clash somewhat with the more serious issues later in the story creating a sort of tonal whiplash.

The source of much of the serious issues is once again Hector. Hector is simply not suited to time travel and his last two journeys have only proved it. Far future alien worlds and ancient Earth past have both left him drained and in danger. His susceptibility to possession again makes him a victim for large portions of the adventure, even as he thinks he’s finally taking control. It’s also painful to hear him compared to Hex for him, for Ace, and for the audience. Ace keeps bringing up Hex, which only makes Hector feel like he’s not living up to an ideal he’ll never know. Only the Doctor has accepted that Hex is gone and is trying to help Hector find a new path in life, but even he occasionally slips up and you can’t help feeling for him as he watches Ace suffer. 

Altogether this is a solid middle chapter in this trilogy. The tone goes up and down, sometimes line to line, but it was a fun listen and gave much needed growth to the character of Hector.
