finding songs that are decent and not absolutely insanely popular for your auditions can be really difficult, so i've taken the liberty of making two playlists with rare-ish/uncommon/less common musical theatre solos; one for male voices and one for female voices <3

take a listen and see what's best, and please @ anyone you think would find this helpful! i want to make sure i span as many songs and musicals as possible, so please name some of your obscure faves in the notes/comments too!!

i’m going to audition for a local production of hadestown in july, and i need a song to audition with that is either a.) from the musical (no backing vocals) or b.) in the same genre/style as the musical.

now, i’m gonna level with yall: i have no idea what to pick. whatsoever. so i was hoping i could get a little help? i’m a mezzo soprano, wider range i think? roles ive played in the past are sally brown + girl scout

for a better example of my vocal range, here’s me singing wedding song from hadestown as eurydice:

i’m not gunning for any specific role, i’m just happy to be in the show, i’d probably just want to pick a song that showcases my vocal range well.

so i sent in my self-tape audition for [area theatre company]’s production of measure for measure on April 26. the deadline for auditions (for this production, conducted completely virtually) to be submitted is at 5:00 pm on May 1.

about 30 minutes after i submitted my audition, i got the following email from the co-artistic director of the company:

however, the company has not said yet whether or not it is doing callbacks for this particular production (the last two shakespeare productions they did, they did not do callbacks, but the one they did last summer that i ended up assistant directing did have callbacks).
