The Is and Isn'ts of Fusion

(copied from my reddit post x3)

Hiya. I'm someone undergoing fusion-focused therapy to treat DID. Every day I open this app to some new and fascinating misconception about fusion, so I wanted to clear things up.

Please note that I am not a student of psychology or mental health practitioner. The advice I share comes from my personal experience of fusion, as well as my therapist's - who has multiple clients with DID - understanding of fusion-centered therapy. I have also done talk therapy, parts work, cognitive processing therapy (a modified form of CBT to treat PTSD), and DBT.

Fusion isn't...

- **A convenient way to get rid of alters.** I can speak for myself, and other fusions within the system have said the same, that we carry on our personhoods and identities and memories, and even relationships within the system. I was V and M, and now I'm both of them.

- **A loss.** As said above, my personhoods carried over when the parts of me that make up me fused. If anything, I view it as a gain - Ariadne has everything V and M had, plus a bit more because I am a calmer, more controlled, and more mentally equipped person.

- **The death of an alter.** In a literal sense, alters cannot die. And, also, as said above, my personhoods carried over.

- **The end of the involved alters' relationships.** This isn't a problem for us with other people, because we operate as a package deal in our relationships with others. But also, within the system, some of our insys relationships carry over. Gabriel was Monika's best friend, and he's still mine. Some of our insys relationships are different, too (Fray and Cal are no longer romantically involved,) but like all changes we can adapt to it.

- **Purposely killing an alter.** Shut up.

- **The same thing as integration.** Integration is any type of processing and work that results in the system "running better" - smoother communication, greater continuity of memory or experience, more willingness to work together, and fusion are all some examples of integration.

- **The only choice to get better.** Some people with DID find that functional multiplicity suits their recovery goals more.

Fusion is

- **Healthy.** I'm happier fused than I was apart, for sure, even though it was a difficult adjustment at first. I've had to overcome knowing a fuller picture of my childhood. It's difficult, but I know this is what I want and I'm doing better.

- **Stable.** Lots of fearmongering happens in DID spaces, with the idea that once you fully fuse you're prone to splitting apart again. While that is possible, fusion does not happen without *significant* healing and trauma processing. By virtue of being able to fuse, work has been done. New, healthier coping skills have been learned.

- **A fluid experience.** Within our own system, we experience fusion in different ways. Fray is one alter who holds many experiences. I'm Ariadne, but Monika and Val are still two distinct parts within me. There's absolute continuity of experience, consciousness, and emotion, so I don't consider us separate the same way our alters are. But, I'm one and two at the same time.

- **Achievable.** With sufficient trauma-processing, many people are capable of fusing.

- **The right choice for some people.** Functional multiplicity works for many. I'm not devastated by the thought of remaining multiple for the rest of my life, but I'd also like to work towards fusion because I know that's what would make me happiest.

What IS this "infected time" au?

Am I glad you asked xD

I'll start from the very beginning if that's alright with you :P

So it all started in the spring of 2024. I had seen @/krossan's danny phantom art before, and I was in love with it, however, I didn't know a thing about danny phantom xD

So comes spring 2024, and I watch danny phantom. Lo and behold, I get obsessed! A kids show from early 2000's? SIGN ME UP!! >:P

Comes the end of spring break, I'm back at uni. My best friend spams me (/pos) with mlp Infection AUs that are all over tumblr and tiktok. They're cool! They're inspiring! They tingle a very specific part of my brain in the best way possible!

Long story short, I get obsessed×2!

And what does my brain do? Smashes this current fixation of mine in with the infection AUs!

The idea of danny phantom infection AU is born! YIPPEE!!!

I decided to pick up the story from where a glitch in time left it.

No one remembers Danny's identity again, vlad and dan are getting a second chance, all that!

But I added a twist based on the canon.

In 'the ultimate enemy', the observants weren't exactly happy about the second chance that clockwork decided to give danny. They believed he shouldn't exist altogether. Clockwork was the one to change Danny's fate and help trap dan in a thermos. But what do we have now?? The timelines are all messed up, dan is roaming free in a timeline that he doesn't belong to, and everything's supposed to go fine, right?

Nope. Why would the observants be happy after all of this? Why would they agree with clockwork?

See where I'm going with this?

In AGIT, clockwork said that his powers are weaker for whatever reason.

How weak exactly? It was never specified.

How powerful are the observants? IT WAS NEVER SPECIFIED EITHER!

So I went crazy with it.

The observants aren't satisfied. They want clockwork to do what they ask him to. Clockwork refuses.

So the observants take the matter into their own hands.

They infect the timeline.

They decided to destroy it all together.

What will everyone else do about it?

Male hair's has to be johnnysimmer, I think I pretty much have the majority of hairs they have created

Male clothing creators I personally love are adrien pastel, gorilla x3, Ceeproductions and oakiyo has some nice male cc. Those are just a few creators I can think of without actually checking my mods folder haha. I think most of us struggle with mens cc as there isn't as many creators for it in comparison with female clothing

Furniture creators I'd recommend to check out would be charly pancakes, felixandre, joyce is fox, pierisim and tuds I have the majority of their collections

And then some amazing creators who do some gorgeous clutter pieces are aggressive kitty, clutter cat, simkoos and lilac creative

There's honestly so many amazing creators, I've named just a few as I know how overwhelming it is when you're starting out on a computer lol

I would highly recommend finding some tumblr accounts you like the look of and having a nosy. I've gotten a lot of my cc just from peoples recommendations on here

Heya! So, I'm kind of a "play one single game for ages until I get utterly sick of it" kind of guy and BG3 is admittedly having a long streak, but I do play other games and might do so on stream eventually! I was kind of considering playing Hellblade 2 on twitch after it comes out, if anyone would be interested in that.

I'm not sure I would ever stream art as I don't like to be distracted while I work, and not interacting with chat seems like would kind of defeat the purpose of streaming, but who knows, I might try it sometime.

It feels great, it is VERY neat. I use them very often tbh. Like 90% of the reaction pics I send now are the catformers. x3 It’s very fun since you know, I made them myself, and because they are also transformers!! And I enjoy using like fandom related things as reaction pics. There’s something about it… it itches my autism in a good way.

Awaaaah! Im doing pretty ok!!! Taking time to answer this as a wind down from Emerald Weapon Ex Brain Soupage. And I’m so glad! ;W; I think I butchered one of those “Get To Know An OC” thingies- uhh… oh [this one] actually! I chopped a lot out and I think added a couple different thingums instead because there was so much to that that it felt overwhelming to try to look at let alone fill out LOL but it was a really good jumping off point uvu;

And!!! Hilariously Chuu was my First XIV Character, so she’s dear to my heart for being the first one- but she very quickly made it known being the WOL even as an AU was something of a Joke (Her character showed great reluctance and even frustration at having to do So Much World Saving, maybe a side-effect of me rushing through MSQ to catch up with my other spouse [Who plays Talia, though they’ve got less time for XIV these days ;0;] and the rest of my friends who were all EndGame already at the time in Shadowbringers fhdjfjsjfs.) So I made…… many alts. Throwing spaghetti at the wall but I have SEVERE side-character/NPC brain and kept making “supporting cast” types =w=; it actually took me like. 3? Alts before making an ACTUAL WoL with my husband (Ishi’li and Kizuna) (as of Right Meow, they’re in post ARR, but we’ve been working on Keathan and Tuesday together because Keathan was… Keathan’s first character in xiv XD so we’ve been jaunting through the story together and experiencing every inch of it so we can pick and choose what The Boys™ get up to when we wanna focus on them x3)

🥰 I knew both speece during at least high school- but I actually knew Keathan as early as Elementary school hehe 😌 tho the speece didn’t proper marry until… i’unno, 2017? (For frustrating legal reasons, I’m not legally married, but. As it goes. Someday we’ll have money to visit the one state that has legal poly marriages. Also I struggle to remember our wedding year 🫢)

Since managing to make a Co-WoL with my husband I’ve managed to make one other Alt meant to be a Solo-WoL (Mochiie) but I have to really wrinkle my brain to sink time into playing him, since I’m trying to take screenshots throughout the story at what I find to be inspiring beats xD And even still he has an alt-universe where he’s just a side-character for the ‘Main Timeline’ (where there’s a bunch of spaghetti and like 8+ confirmed WoL’s and the Msq entourage looks HILARIOUS in canon, someday I’ll get all the data together and take pictures, but I think it’ll cook what’s left of my brain x’3) [it’s less concrete than anything I’ve posted about before or I’d try to explain it ;v;’ it’s just interesting mostly to see how the story gets stretched to fit around a larger community of heroes than a solo guy shouldering the whole burden lmfao.]

𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐞: Nope, if it has nothing to do with us, then walk away… And, it’s probably safer if we stay up here… Trust me.

[Maddie exhaustingly drinks her milkshake as Calypso just stares in confusion and worry, but she chose not to ask for her own sanity…]

I think it depends on which one you mean:

For the Scalemate/Terezi cane I believe I used @violasarecool 's tutorial which can be found here.

For the Moonlight Gentleman one I had to figure that out on my own!

I used a reference I found online of it from the game & started drawing it by hand in firealpaca, then I printed out the reference I made & cut the pieces- doing basically the same process I had done with Michael Cane. X3

I believe this was the sheet I made back then around 2021. v v v
