"so... are you two a, y'know, a thing?"

questions like these never fail to keep you quick on your toes, especially since nothing could be farther from the truth. you and hobie were just good friends, really good friends. just a couple of buds that always had each other's back when battles go awry, or when the other gets in trouble for a few stunts here and there. you two were just... very close, is what you would call it, neither of you really used labels to express what you two were to each other.

hobie hated labels anyway to begin with, never believed in them and certainly doesn't want to use them to describe his relationship with you. he never felt the need to, all he was certain of was that if you were there for him, he'd obviously be there for you–even if you never asked for him to be, it was always a given.

you yourself were a free-spirited type of person, you refused to be weighed down by commitment when you already had yourself to worry about. and besides... you didn't feel anything for hobie, did you? nah, you didn't, you just thought that he was really, really cool. and awesome. and inspiring. and rebellious for the right reasons. and so... just, just a lot of amazing things.

you two wanted to make it clear: there was nothing going on between you two. and even though you convinced some of the folks at the spider society, a lot of others were still highly skeptical of you two, not that you guys cared, you two knew each other well. or so you both thought.

though hobie was always your first pick for a partner on a mission, you were being paired up with a lot of different spider people recently. and though it was no problem for hobie, you worried about leaving him alone. "hey, now, don't get all sentimental on me. i never believed in consistency, anyway. you're amazing, of course everyone wants you on their team. i'll catch you on the flipside," he'd tell you something along those lines and just... be gone for the rest of the day.

you tried not to worry so much, but guilt ate away at you sometimes and distracted you. but soon, this routine became more and more commonplace for you two, to the point that it distracted you seldom times when you heard that hobie was okay, he wasn't avoiding you, he was just... off somewhere else, and that much was enough to put you at ease.

you hung around the new people you met more and more often, even when hobie was around. you never meant to replace him, you could never do that; you just had your own life, and hobie... hobie knew. he understood that not every day can be for you two to share together, but honestly, he wished he didn't have to share your attention with these other guys, despite how well they mean, he wanted just you and him together for one more day; one more day, just like how it all was before this new change in routine.

little did hobie know that wish would come true sooner than he thought; for as you two were sent on a mission together, with just you two together, hobie had to admit how much he missed you--how much he wanted for things to be the way they once were. "i know i said i never believed in consistency, labels, and... i don't. but when it comes to you, i just have these thoughts, these thoughts of seeing you smile because of me, feeling your hand in mine after a long fight, getting together to make mischief and getting each other out of it--i really missed that... i missed you."

and you thought you were crazy for hearing that right then and there, because you yourself felt that exact same way. "i... i really missed you, too, hobie." you'd admit, and that was all the admission hobie needed to hear. "if you'll let me, may i... show you just how much i've missed you?" he ask as he brings his hand to your cheek and gazes into your eyes as you become more and more embarrassed about your feelings for him, but so was he when he realized you were, and are, all he ever loved.

you agreed, and in the blink of an eye, his lips were on yours. you felt his piercings, they were cold amidst both of your lips touching each other, but you two fit so well together; you two were each other's missing link, the only one who can right each other's wrongs and make them feel much more... alive.

though you two still refused to give other people any labels when asked about you two--because how was it their business, right?--you two knew just the other meant to you: it was ride or die with you, and only you; nobody else could replace or be the other, you're all he'll ever want, and he's all you could ever hope to love.

before she could even retort about how they went back to last name basis and playfully reprimand him for it, he added, "james wanted to know if you'd like to go out with him this weekend."

“you twat!" he shouted, grabbing sirius in chokehold which only resulted in peter helping sirius fight for his life. "you dickhead, why didn't you let me ask her that myself?"

"because, you'd end up postponing it like you always do. it's been months prongs! get it over with!" screamed sirius between breaths, "honestly, you were putting gryffindor's name to shame."

it wasn't a rare occurrence for the quidditch teams to wreak havoc as they pass by the hallways. so really, it was the same old ordinary story for her to discuss her classes with her friends as a group of loud boys walked by.

now, there's one thing you should know. [name] has always prided herself to not be the type who falls for a guy who flashes her a smile (her friendship with the notorious sirius black which started from his failed attempts of trying woo her as evidence). she didn't swoon when sirius called her petnames, nothing. no matter how cool for school he may seem to be.

but there was something, something so unexplainable, a feeling that had her in a fit off smiley giggles —no matter how unlike her it was to do so— that had her scolding herself internally when james potter cruised by, grinning at her the second he spotted her.

she knew right then and there that she was in deep shit. they knew each other, of course they did, sirius would never stop talking about one to other and vice versa which meant that they're sort of acquaintances.

but merlin, something about that smile, the way his hazel eyes crinkled behind his round glasses, the slight dimples on his cheeks and the perfectly straight teeth that he had, had her in a fit. she was certain he'd still be the boy that she'd pick in a line of thirty hot guys.

"oh fuck."

"oh fuck's right," her friend, lucien retorted after having caught her staring at james, demanding a confession of sort. "i mean out of all the boys in hogwarts, you chose potter?"

"i didn't choose to!" she argued with a defensiveness that she didn't expect from herself. "i just fell for him!"

"good lord, you might as well prance around singing to him 'i've fallen for you! i know i shouldn't but i just can't stop myself' maybe he'll sing it back to you," lucien said teasingly, creating a tune as she went with her words. "perhaps you won't be lonely for the first time in -what, six years?"

"you're the worst friend ever," she groaned. the pair of them turning the corner so they could enter the transfiguration classroom. "you're supposed to help me get over him, this isn't good new for either of us-"

"good afternoon, [l/name]."

"er- good afternoon, potter," she greeted in return in a more questioning manner, he only smiled; turning back to his conversation with his friend. the feeling of blood rushing to her cheeks not missed by herself.

"er- good morning, potter," lucien said mockingly, a smirk on her thin lips. "i never pegged the great [f/name] as the type to fall for a guy just 'cause he says hi."

"it was 'good afternoon' not 'hi' and those are big words for someone who choked on pumpkin juice just 'cause they made eye contact with evans."

she knew it was a mistake to introduce lucien to sirius. merlin, lucien alone was too much for one to handle when it comes to teasing, but put the two drama queens together? that was just a disaster waiting to happen. so when sirius approached her, tearing away from his herbology partner to annoy the life out of her, she was more than prepare to suffer for the next hour.

"so..." sirius drawled out, snatching her attention away from the plants she was maintaining. "a little birdie told me you fancy a certain friend of mine."

"yeah, lupin is one good looking lad," she quipped, praying that her body wouldn't betray her collapse right then and there from embarrassment. goddamn it lucien.

sirius rolled his eyes exaggeratedly; trying to get her to understand just how 'annoyed' she made him feel. "honestly [name], i'm pretty sure james fancy you too you know."

the way he spoke so nonchalantly put her on edge, but that didn't stop her from perking up to try to get more information from him. "we were talking the other day and he said you looked really pretty when he spotted you during one of his practices, that's a crush if i saw one."

"something about you catching his gaze as he was preparing to race," he muttered with a mischievous smile, "truly poetic."

"would you stop?" she grumbled, going back to attending her plants. "it's honestly not that big of a deal."

"not that big of a deal?" sirius gasp dramatically, pressing a hand on his chest for good measure. "this is the love of your life and it's not that big of a deal?"

she rolled her eyes, a remark ready at the tip of the tongue when professor sprout loudly clear her throat cutting off the pair's conversation.

"mister potter could you please focus on your partner rather than miss [l/name]?" she questioned, for the briefest moment she thought she saw a small smile on the edge of the professor's lip but she was quick to change her expression to a stern one. "or did you want to switch partners? if that's the case, you'll need to discuss it with miss [l/name]."

"no professor," he said quickly; rubbing the back of his neck as his ears flushed pink, "i-i was just a bit distracted."

the professor hummed, taking his excuse without further questions, letting him continue on his work. from her side she could feel sirius physically vibrating with excitement, slowly she turned; facing him once more to see —exactly what she expected to see when it comes to sirius— the human embodiment of an enthusiastic puppy.

"seeeeeeeee?" he dragged out, smiling from ear to ear, "sirius black is never wrong miss [l/name]."

christmas was approaching, fast. and like any other rational 'high school student' sirius had the bright idea to throw a christmas party just before the break started. which led to her to where she was now; in the middle of a crowded common room trying to find her raven-haired friend yet all her effort was to no avail.

the room was packed, loud music that she could faintly recognize the track of blaring from every corner of the place, the air was humid; hot from all the bodies dancing and grinding against one another.

lucien had (for once in her life time) sat out from this party, having land herself a date with a redhead she'd been pining over since the start of this school year. so really, [name] was as alone as one could be and she was really regretting her decision to have even gotten dressed up to come in the first place.

remus was tall, she knew that, almost everyone in their year knew that, but she never stopped to think for second about how much of life safer his height was. merlin, knows the relief she felt the second she spotted his mousy head of hair bopping to the beat of the song a mere feet away from her.

it was an unspoken rule she had ingrained into her mind: wherever one marauder was, there would be the other three.

her feet moved before her mind even process it's movement, pushing pass people in pursuit of the prefect who really should be stopping the party but was instead joining in the fun.

sirius was quick to cheer her name when his eyes met her, bringing her to his side and handing her a brand new bottle of butterbeer. "i thought you'd ditched on me."

"and have you bother me about how i betrayed you for the rest of the break?" she retorted, twisting the cap open and taking a sip, "no thanks."

"and here i thought that you'd come to see me." he pouted, making sure that he was giving her his best puppy eyes so he could play victim. "turns out you just find me annoying."

"everyone does," remus snorted, joining in the conversation.

sirius tutted, annoyance playing on his features when he suddenly had a bright idea. "you know [l/name], we were just talking about you before you came over."

"yeah." he cut her off, staring at her. "i'd love to," he added after clearing his throat, "i'll see you then?"

"yeah, i'll see you then," she agreed, feeling giddy the longer they maintain eye contact. after a second she turned; deciding that it was best to leave it as it is only to be stopped by a hand grasping her wrist. she looked over her shoulder, meeting his eyes once more.

My experiences with DreamWidth fandom spaces are the same as my experiences with DreamWidth RP: a lot of people talk about wanting more people to post, missing the old days, and disliking fandom puritanism, but don't interact with others much and, when someone disagrees with them, decide that this is the end of the world. I've seen people in DWRP angry at other people for disagreements from up to 12 years ago. I've seen people in DW fandom spaces vaguepost about specific people they're mad at for disagreeing with them from up to 8 years ago. Neither reaction makes me go, "Ah, yes, this is where I want to hang out", because I just don't fucking care. When someone confronts me about traumatizing them because I said I didn't find X character as engaging as Y or I think it's possible Character A is bi and not gay/lesbian default and it's been 5 years, my first thought is almost always, "I'm sorry, who?" and not, "OMG I feel so bad let me apologize for this!" Not apologizing doesn't go over well, so it's off to gossip to their friends in DMs and on other sites about how someone else totally said this, that and the other thing too and it was super mean.

IDK, maybe I'm just old (I did just turn 30) but I look at this kind of drama and all I can think is, "I don't care and I don't have the energy to engage with this." It doesn't help that I meet people on DW who are self-identified fandom olds (usually that means they're 40-ish) who complain about yaoi fangirls/"fujoshits" and call female characters who've had multiple sexual partners "cockhops" and assume anyone writing f/f is a "neckbeard". This is still less sensitive than antis are, but there's still a lot of moralizing things you don't like and reading into what someone writes in order to judge them as a person.

Between that and the very low level of overall engagement it kind of feels not worth it? I'm not seeing what the benefit is. Making fandom friends is fairly difficult on DW and when you do, losing them is as easy as not having seen something, not liking a pairing or not caring about something (contentious canons, especially). I'm sure someone's having a great time but to me it's sort of like shouting into the void, except sometimes the void calls you a fujoshit neckbeard and never elaborates on how that'd work.

DW's moment as a potential community hub has come and gone, in my opinion. Now, it's just the people who can't hack it on other platforms plus some legacy uses that DW is good for that other sites aren't.

I did make more of an effort to make fetch happen in the past, but it became apparent that a lot of the people who are primarily on DW are not people I want to make that effort for. I've got a couple of old friends still hanging out there because they like very text-based internet stuff, and good for them, but overall... yeah... the vibe just isn't that great a lot of the time.

I used to advocate getting a DW just to have a place to link your other social media in case your tumblr is suddenly deleted due to mysterious tumblr enforcement shenanigans... but honestly, I could probably use my AO3 profile for that just as well.

I'm glad DW is still around, and I hope it continues to be. I don't regret my seed account. But it's just not something I use actively in the 2020s.

Oh wow! I am? Haha, I just love them so much as a couple! I think they bring out the absolute best in each other, and several years after the fact, I do still get giddy about them as a pair! That warms my heart that so many years later, people think of me when they think of this pairing <3

As for Stein and Spirit, I'll put that one under a read more

I have some complicated feelings about Stein and Spirit. I think what Stein did to him is an irreparable harm, honestly, to the point where even at the end of the Manga and Series, Spirit has a lot of complex PTSD to work through regarding him. He's his watchdog, his babysitter, chained to him through circumstance whether he wants it or not. Spirit is a lonely man. I don't know how often that's discussed, but by the end of the series, truly, Spirit has lost everything.

At the start of it, this dynamic is different. Stein is the one who has nothing to his name save his talents when he first comes to and leaves the DWMA, and Spirit is the one who has everything. He has friends, a family. A daughter and a wife and a good job, a good meister. THE best meister, arguably, considering he is Lord Death's weapon. And then he ends it with nothing: a shattered relationship with his daughter he is still in the midst of attempting to fix, an ex-wife who cannot stand to be in the same country as him, friends who roll their eyes at his antics, a dead meister, a dead God.

You contrast this with Stein, who begins with nothing. A belief he cannot love, cannot be close to anyone, who experiments on his partner like a lab rat, distancing himself from the realities of this breach of trust. And then he ends the series with everything Spirit once had, on the up and up. A loving partner, close connections, a position of authority in his workplace, a daughter on the way.

Stein and Spirit are foils, when one is heads up, the other is tails. And I think there's a lot that Spirit wants to say to him that he can't, because he still has fear toward Stein. Very justifiable fear. And in truth, though I think Stein has some form of comradery with Spirit, he doesn't view him as a full person, which leads to a very strained relationship between them, if it can be truly called such. They're drawn together partly against their will, partly through circumstance, partly through the past. They have a lot to work through if they actually want to be friends (something I personally wouldn't consider them), but I think the reality is that Stein wasn't sorry, and that will always be a wall between them that will be insurmountable. He doesn't have remorse for what he did to Spirit, and I think Spirit may always feel some kind of way about 'What was it about me? You could do that to me but not to someone else? To Marie?'

Spirit has a lot to work through, personally, and Stein exacerbates that because he is the wound that Spirit cannot ever fully heal. Stein was, in many ways, Spirit's first heartbreak. Part of why he drinks, part of why he looks for escape in other things, other people. And though time has softened that, though Spirit may show up to a wedding (if there is one) or to visit Baby Shelley (my own HC for the baby girl he and Marie have), there will always have to be some distance there, so Spirit doesn't fully break.

And for Stein? I think Stein considered Spirit his friend at first, and then his warden afterward. Come to check on him to make sure he hasn't found his end at the wrong side of a scalpel. Wandering into his home with deadened eyes and distance on Death's account. At the end, on the Battle of the Moon, when Spirit says he watches out for him more than he does his own daughter, it's not born out of tenderness, but obligation. And with Death dead and the world beginning in new form, I don't think even that will be in place, anymore.

And truthfully? I think that distance is what may truly help him heal.

Kim Possible Episode Tiers: The C-Tier

The C-tier is probably best defined as episodes that I'm never really eager to rewatch, but I'm pleasantly surprised when I do. It's a good show, so they're good episodes . . . but at least one thing sticks in my craw about these ones.

Attack of the Killer Bebes: Drakken origin story! It's silly, but I still fall on the side of thinking that it mostly works. It's not a strong conviction, but let's roll with it.

Oh Boyz: Honestly, this would be lower if they didn't boy-band-dance their way through some lasers.

Larry's Birthday: I'm a little surprised Larry gets as much screen time as he does. I'm even more surprised that I kind of really like this episode. The twist, Dementor, it all sort of works for me.

Rufus vs. Commodore Puddles: It's a random 15 minute episode, but I just want to highlight one of my favorite Drakken quotes in it.

Mathter and Fervent: Two things I don't particularly love in Kim Possible: B villains and examining the relationship between Ron and his parents.

Two to Tango: I've mentioned it before, but Shego and Jr. have some winning chemistry and I've probably rated this episode too low.

Partners: This episode had some real potential. It tried to analyze Ron/Monique, Drakken/Amy + commentary by Shego, and Kim/Random Character all at once. It would have benefitted from being a bit more focused.

Monkey Ninjas in Space: It's sort of absurd to theme an episode of Kim Possible around a father's crisis about his kid growing up too quickly. She's an international superspy. That's the sort of plot you cede attempting when you created this universe.

Ron Millionaire: Why didn't Shego just take Ron's money? It's fine, but I never outright enjoy the "Ron loses sight of what's important" episodes.

Rewriting History: This could've been in a higher tier if it was more confident in itself. Why are Ron and Kim imagining this all in a shared dream?

Cap'n Drakken: Look. Drakken gets possessed by a pirate spirit. That plot being a C-quality episode for me is frankly, amazing. It could've easily been the worst episode in the series.

Team Impossible: This is the one time the show ever questions whether Kim is the best possible person to be doing this sort of work. Maybe it's important that it isn't a recurring question . . . but I found it particularly entertaining that it ends with a member of Team Impossible doing James's taxes.

Return to Wannaweep: The frustration of Gil clearly being a villain again and no one believing Ron (who saved everyone the first time they were here). I would say the Bonnie and Kim rivalry, which I'm normally fine with, left me exasperated.

Queen Bebe: RIP Steve Harwell.

Kimnation Nation: It's alright, but I thought the clone angle was underexplored and I don't particularly love Drakken riding solo for an episode.

Mothers Day: I have to say it. I don't like Drakken's mom. I think she removes anything threatening about him as a character and I don't think she adds all that much in her own right. What I did like was Ann being a great sidekick for Kim.

Bonding: I don't know what to make of Bonnie and Kim. I really like Bonnie as a character, I'm interested in her opinions and what it's like being the high school rival of an international super hero. I don't like petty drama. Maybe there was more to explore here.

Car Alarm: What were the Ed and Shego interactions in this episode? I will say the birds in car joke got me multiple times.

Homecoming Upset: There's a story to tell about Bonnie's feelings about Ron that I'm not sure I've totally figured out yet. This is a good subversion episode and it has my favorite bit of CCR voice acting.

Rufus in Show: I think I would outright hate this episode, except it's surprisingly funny.

Animal Attraction: There's natural humor in giving all your characters a romance test and having the results pair them with the most ridiculous outcomes. It would probably be higher if the villain plot was a little better than "revenge for getting kicked out of the billionaire club."

Vir-Tu-Ron: This is actually a pretty good episode and maybe I'm just bitter about Ron and Zita never being appropriately resolved by the show.

La Pluie Ep 4 Stray Thoughts

Last week, Tai went out with his co-workers to a club, and of course ran into Phat. The two of them vibes at cross purposes, and Tai ended up getting way too drunk. Phat, who is falling for the version of Tai he's seen in the world, tried to help him. Tai, thinking Phat is trying to talk to three different people, did the unhinged thing and bit him. Tai woke up in Phat's condo the next day. Meanwhile Tien and Lomfon beefed over their documentary project.

Okay, Tai looks good in these pajamas.

Phat is a gentleman and I am in love.

This boy was still trying to bite when he was drunk. I'm gonna McFuckinLoseIt.

Um, we saw quite a bit of crotch there from Tai.

I know this girl is about to cause problems, but Nara is gorgeous.

I get Nara. I think she's wrong to be saying stuff while he can't hear, but I understand the insecurity of feeling like your partner isn't supposed to be with you.

Nara ate that whole scene up! Pakpai Pareena Busayasiri is the new lead.

I really appreciate how clear headed everyone is on this show. Phat knows his feelings for Tai are strong, and also that Nara will never be comfortable with him having a soulmate.

Phat just became one of my favorite characters. He went into that date knowing everything that happened, and was determined to make Tai see that he wants to treat him well and wants Tai to enjoy himself when he's with him. This was incredible. I like that he processed everything that had transpired, and took him time to make sure that Tai understood everything that happened. I also love the way he dialed back and reset when Tai passed out. This is now one of my must watch shows.

"Sorry for the unconventional meeting place," I apologize to Voight. "My unit with the Major Crimes Division has been looking into robberies around town, but this scene is different. This time there was a murder involved. I was hoping we could take over the case."

"We, huh?" Voight hummed. "So you've decided to accept my offer?"

"I would have been an idiot to decline it," I retort. "The Intelligence Unit is the most elite unit in Chicago. Anyone and everyone wants to get a job here. Honestly, I still can't believe you offered me a spot."

"I don't just offer anyone a spot, Y/n," Voight told me. "You earned it. I'll call the rest of the team down here now."

Jay's POV

"Whoa whoa whoa," I mutter and grab Hailey's wrist to stop her from walking any further. "Who's that?"

"Who?" Hailey questioned and followed my gaze. "Oh. That's Detective L/n. She's the new member Voight was looking at to add to the team. From what I've heard, she's amazing. Why do you ask?"

"No reason," I lie, my eyes still trained on the detective who was talking to Voight. She was perhaps one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. And I immediately wanted to get to know her. "We uh, we should go say hello."

Y/n's POV

"There you guys are. Detective L/n, this is Detective Hailey Upton and Detective Jay Halstead," Voight introduced. "Hailey, Jay, this is Detective Y/n L/n."

"Nice to meet you," Jay returned.

"You too. So your last name is Halsted? Like the street," I point out.

"Just like the street, yeah," Jay confirmed. "But there's an 'a' in there."

"Cool. Anyways, my old unit has had this case for a while, but our offenders just escalated to murder, so Sergeant Voight said we could take it," I put forth.

"So you're officially joining the team. Congrats," Hailey wished me. "Kim and I need another girl in the bullpen."

"Well, I can't wait to start," I confess. "I uh, I've gotta contact my old unit and get all of their files, but I'll meet you guys back at the 21st."

"Yeah. See you then," Jay said. As Jay walked away, I could feel my cheeks heat up. I hadn't even known him for a few minutes, but I could already feel myself developing a crush on him. So I guess getting to work with him closely would be interesting, to say the least.

"Hey there," Jay greeted me in the lobby of the 21st district. "I was beginning to think we scared you off when you didn't get back here within the hour."

I laughed. "Sorry. My old team wanted to say their goodbyes, and well, I couldn't deny them that. But I did get the case files we need to look over."

"Great. Come on," Jay urged and waved me along. "I'll buzz you up. We can get your handprint in the scanner later. Everyone's waiting in the bullpen."

"Glad to see you here, Y/n. Here's the rest of the team. Officers Kim Burgess, Adam Ruzek, and Kevin Atwater," Voight listed off.

I waved. "Nice to meet you guys."

"You'll be partnered with Kevin for the time being," Voight disclosed. "We'll discuss the rest later. As for now, share with us what you know about our current offenders."

"Right. So our three offenders have robbed six establishments in the past two weeks, but in the last robbery they ended up murdering the owner of the business," I start. "Based on what we've seen from camera footage, the level of trust between the three is on another level. There's no way they're strangers to each other, so my old team and I thought that they're either related or long time friends. Other than that, all we know is that they stay in the southside neighborhoods. Canaryville, Bridgeport, etc."

"All right then. Lets start digging," Voight ordered. "Look through the case files Y/n brought over and see if we can make any connections between the businesses. And lets go through security feed and see if we can ID our offenders. The more we know about them, the better our chances of catching them."

A Few Days Later...

"Nice take down," Kevin commented and gave me a fist bump as the two of us walked away from the arrest scene. "So, how'd you like your first case with Intelligence? Was it everything you thought it'd be?"

"Everything and more," I correct. "You guys are all great. Seriously. I'm happy to be here."

"I'm glad you're here too," Kevin confessed. "I think I see why Voight chose you."

"Yeah? Care to tell me?" I quiz.

"I think I'll let you try and figure it out," Kevin told me.

"Y/n!" Jay called out. "Can I talk to you for a second?"

"I'll be waiting in the car," Kevin spoke and gave my shoulder a small squeeze before making his way over to the car.

"Hey, Jay. What's up?" I ask and join him over by his truck.

"I just wanted to say congrats. You've officially completed your first Intelligence case," Jay brought up.

"Right. Um, thanks," I murmur and start playing with my hands behind my back. "Is there anything else you want to tell me? Kev and I promised Voight that we'd do the last of the paper work before shift ends."

"Actually, yeah. Would you uh...how would you feel if...want to come to Molly's with me after shift tonight?" Jay finally stammered out.

I smiled. "Jay Halstead, are you asking me out on a date?"

"Yeah. Well, only if you want it to be one. If not, that's completely fine. I'd understand but-"

I cut Jay off by leaning over and pressing a short kiss to his lips. "It's a date. I'll see you later."

"Y-yeah. See you l-later," Jay stuttered as I walked back over to Kevin's car and climbed into the passenger seat.

"So you and Halstead," Kevin voiced.

"Oh shut it," I mutter playfully and shove him slightly. "You shouldn't be worrying about Jay and I. Instead you should be focused on that huge stack of paperwork waiting for us at the district."

"Ugh," Kevin groaned. "You're right. Okay, I guess we should head back to 21. But I'm not gonna drop this discussion. Once we're there you're gonna tell me everything."

"Yeah yeah yeah," I mumble. "Just step on it, Kev."

(It's what it sounds like, couples paint each other and film it to show their reactions) (unfortunately I've seen a lot of sad cishet ones where the guy paints his gf or wife really badly, like intentionally, where the gf/wife looks like a monster so I need some actual nice ones to feel better and thought I'd ask about your ocs)

Awww that sounds so cute! (though it really sucks about the sad cishet ones, I don't know why you'd want to paint your partner badly on purpose, that's just mean and awful :( )

I'm just gonna answer this for the couples you know I think, just for simplicity's sake

Rae: Isn't that much of an artist, but she'd do her best. It's not fantastic quality but it's really clear that she tried to get all the details (especially in his eyes because she loves his eyes). I think she'd either just stick to drawing a bust of him just to make sure it's manageable, or would try something ambitious like him with his wings wrapped around her. Warren: Refined upbringing... I'm sure he's taken some art classes, not to mention his mom liked to paint, so he knows how to paint. He hasn't done it in years so it's a bit of a slow start, but once he finds his rhythm he actually makes something really beautiful. It has Rae crying a little when he shows it to her (but happy tears of course)

Robin: She's more of a music person than a 2D art person, so her solution is to paint a bunch of wiggly stripes in shades of blue and silver and say "it's you at superspeed" - kinda cheating, but it makes Peter laugh. Peter: Tries his best... that's about all he can say. He tried to paint her singing onstage for Carmen since that's how they met, but it's a little lopsided and goofy since he's not the best painter. It's not intentionally bad, he's just not an art guy, so he and Robin just laugh together when he shows her.

Madison: Would probably opt to sketch him rather than painting him (she's better at sketching, it was one of her hobbies to pass the time out in the woods), and would actually draw a really accurate sketch of Alex. He's very impressed (and it makes him a little embarrassed about his own drawing, honestly) Alex: Isn't a great artist, so he kinda just stuck to the key details - plus, as we both know, she's kinda hard to draw. Madison thinks it's sweet no matter how it turns out though, he could have drawn a stick figure and she'd still think it was sweet that he tried.

Jasper: Tries to draw the time the two of them kissed across the railing at Jasper's derby bout... Kyle: Ends up, by total coincidence, drawing the same exact moment, since it's also his favorite kiss that they've had. Jasper's is more cartoony and Kyle's is stuck in that vague zone of "past the anime character stage but not quite the right proportions yet" but they were both so surprised to flip it and reveal the exact same moment that neither of them are really paying attention to the quality of the paintings.

Prometheus and Corinthian: I feel like as dreams they'd probably have some kind of like... photographic art thing? I mean, they are themselves artistic creations, in a way, and they're not exactly human.... I guess what I'm saying is they'd both make realistic paintings of the other, and though they'd both find it sweet they also wouldn't quite understand the point of it... it's more of a human trend, I think.

Indie: Also opts to draw him rather than paint him (maybe with pastels or colored pencils, and she'd play with a fun color scheme), since she already enjoys drawing. It comes out really clean and accurate, and Hux is both impressed and maybe a little overwhelmed because I can't imagine anyone's paid enough attention to draw him before he met Indie. Hux: I also feel like he knows how to sketch a bit (admittedly this is a headcanon I latched onto from a fic I read, but still), though he's probably rusty since he hasn't drawn since he was a teenager. Indie kinda tries to brush it aside when he shows her, saying he's biased and she definitely doesn't look as nice as what he drew, but he insists that it's how he sees her. I mean, we already knew he's completely smitten for her.

Grey's Anatomy: Keep the Family Close (20x02)

"Discretion is my middle name. Actually, it's Elaine." Yasuda, I love you. Let's dive in!

Cons:

Schmitt and his patient Dante call it "The Great Bake-Off" instead of "The Great British Baking Show" or "The Great British Bake-Off" and I'd just like to lodge a complaint on that. What the hell? Who says that?

Link and Jo's subplot this week is about Link being more romantic and sentimental, and a somewhat joke-y exchange where Link is offended that Jo doesn't remember the details of how they met. In the end, Jo makes a romantic meal and lights candles to reinforce that she appreciates the romance in their relationship. There's nothing offensive about this necessarily, but it just feeds into the worst vibes I have about this pairing. It feels forced, it feels proscribed, it feels like they need to come up with over the top sappy moments to try and convince the audience that they're really in love. And I'm not convinced. I did kind of like the Amelia and Jo scene, though. I think it's sweet that Amelia clocked the relationship issue and took a risk by saying something.

Pros:

I love the concept of the interns having to complete a bingo of basic procedures to earn their spot back in the OR. It adds a level of comedy and competition to them, carrying through a theme we've seen with these five interns since the beginning. But it also gives an opportunity for our characters to grow. Of the five interns, I think Blue is still distinguishing himself as my favorite. It's an easy but effective trick, to have him be seemingly callous and disconnected from the humanity of his patients, but then to learn his lesson and speak to the family of a young man who got shot, with such compassion and care. Bailey clocked that growth in him; it seems like Kwan is one to keep our eye on.

Teddy is, as always, far more tolerable as a character when she's not partnered with Owen for her scenes, and Yasuda is so dang charming that I actually ended up really liking the stuff with the two of them in this episode. Teddy insisting that she's totally okay and then bursting into tears when prompted by Yasuda to really register the reality of her near-death situation, was both funny and touching. I also like Teddy trying to help Yasuda with her check-list of procedures on the sly. It doesn't really work out in Yasuda's favor, but it's cute idea, having the Chief of Surgery trying to give her a leg up.

One last note on Yasuda: her and Helm going at it to open the episode made me smile; happy for these two! I hope we can give Helm more to do as a character this season, she feels perpetually just off to the side of the main action. I also loved the contrast between them going hot and heavy, and Amelia talking to her cat.

Schmitt is still the cutest character to me. I really liked the vibes with Dante, and I hope that can maybe turn into something for him! It was fun to see Schmitt being so cool and professional about the HIV diagnosis while also creating a personal bond. He's grown so much from the baby queer who was kissing a man for the first time just a few years ago. I'm excited to see where this goes.

It was so good to see Ben, I feel like it's been forever, since he's off doing cool stuff over on the spin-off that I refuse to watch. I liked him giving advice to Bailey that these interns might be different and stand up for themselves more than she's used to. And I liked the conclusion, too, that Bailey is the one who has changed, actually. But Ben makes an apt comparison between being a parent and taking over the residents: Bailey has done it before, and she knows when to put her foot down, and when to hold a hand.

I honestly really liked the Lucas and Simone scene at the end. Because I totally get where Simone is coming from, she's been through such a lot of chaos recently and she's genuinely trying to do the right thing by backing off and letting Lucas know that now isn't the right time for them. But... the second Lucas gets mad, you realize that he's... kind of right. Like, extremely right. Simone has been very selfish throughout this rough patch and has not appreciated how much she's been hurting Lucas by jerking him around and then turning to him when she needs some comfort. It's a complicated situation: I agree with Lucas that Simone has behaved poorly, but I don't hate her for her behavior either. They agree on one thing, that she definitely needs to get her shit together. Lucas claims he won't be waiting for her when she does, but I suppose only time will tell.

I got actually emotional about Amelia reaching out to Winston. Like I teared up a little bit. I've realized recently that an easy emotional trigger for me in fiction is when characters are lonely and bravely try and form connections with those around them. (Let's not analyze why this might hit me particularly hard lol). And this was just a prime example of that: Amelia calling Winston her family, acknowledging their rough patch but hoping that they can stay family anyway. Winston agreeing to go eat at Joe's was a lovely little capstone as well. I'm proud of Amelia for realizing she's having a rough time and making concrete moves towards improving that for herself.

Generally speaking I think Jules ranks last for me in terms of my interest level in the new intern characters, but I did like the general plot of this big extended family and their wacky and dangerous baseball game. It's so unrealistic to have a doctor suddenly snap and tell a family to get their shit together, but whatever, it made for a fun moment from Jules, and I liked her grudging acceptance and low-level horror at being named the MVP for speaking the truth.

As always, lots of plot threads going on, plenty to keep me interested. I hope we can see some romances blossoming between Schmitt and Dante, and more with Yasuda and Helm: love to see those queer relationships on this show, and also it means we can focus on love stories less boring and aggravating that Link/Jo or Owen/Teddy.

Kyoko and Chihiro as a duo? Yes!

[This can be seen as a romantic or platonic relationship.]

Honestly, these two are pretty different in character but they'd make a great duo. stoic, serious and mystery solving Kyoko paired up with the insecure, shy and computer smart Chihiro.

Kyoko: She tends to get paired with Makoto, Byakuya or Shuichi when it comes to detective work, but I have a new idea. Kyoko is the Ultimate Detective, she's highly intelligent especially in mysteries and puzzle solving. She's reserved and hides her emotions much opposite to Makoto, Chihiro and even Shuichi. Pairing her with Makoto is common, after all she was the mysterious support character in THH and did her part in the anime. Byakuya ends up tagging along with those two for being the antagonist and getting great character development, however you can see some where Makoto is not involved. Shuichi is an obvious pair, they both share the same talent and are a great duo alone when it comes to detective work. Kyoko is the moon to Makoto's sun and she's seen as Shuichi's teacher.

Chihiro: Chihiro, on the other hand doesn't get much shine when it comes to his own skills so he'll tend to be paired with people to help him get stronger like Mondo and Taka. However, this causes Chihiro's programming skills to go unnoticed, especially with how much help they could be with Kyoko's works but we'll talk about that later. Chihiro is the Ultimate Programmer, he's intelligent in technology and fast at coding. He's emotional and timid unlike anyone Kyoko is paired with. For this reason and his want to become stronger, he's constantly paired with Mondo to grow and Kiyotaka due to all of chapter 2. Sometimes, he's even paired with Chiaki for her love of gaming and Chihiro being able to make her one.

Now, how would they work? I commonly see them great as partners in crime- not in actual crime but more of solving crime. Kyoko, being an amazing detective can still use assistance and she can't always access certain information. Chihiro on the other hand, can access any computer information since he most likely knows how to hack into devices, confirmed with Alter Ego and a common headcanon among most. Kyoko can solve and gather her own information while Chihiro can gain extra information for her. Chihiro is also seen as timid among many, if he can gain enough confidence he could be a spy in a way for missions you see mostly in shows, undercover missions.

Outside of being partners in crime, they have much more to them. Chihiro can help Kyoko feel less insecure about her emotions and help her show them more; Kyoko can return the cover by helping boost Chihiro's confidence in his strengths. They do enjoy information and talk about things either related to or not related to their talents. They both enjoy listening and talking to others, I feel their conversations last hours and nothing can stop them. I think they'd enjoy quiet comforts as well, they're very quiet people themselves so the calm comfort of each other after a stressful day is something they might need.

They hadn't gotten much screen-time together, in fact they only did when they were with everyone else however I think there's some missed potential in the two. If there's any of your own headcanons or you wish to add something, please let me know!

How about Scrabble and Chauncey?

ah yes...scrabbear my belabbear

So! More recent pairing than my older ones but it quickly became near and dear to my heart. And to think, if not for this jokey sketch these two would still be bachelors... (Well, I did consider the idea of Skip reforming and dating Chauncey early on after making him...but that's obviously not how things shook out here. Sorry Skip!)

I think Scrabble was the one to fall in love first. I like to think the 'spark' for his feelings towards Chauncey started when Chauncey tried explaining to him and Gin about the value of complimenting people (since while the two of them are friendly to each other in their own ways, they're very inconsiderate of other's feelings pre-reformation) and complimented Scrabble's eyes. Example or not, nobody had ever said something so nice about his eyes before and it caught Scrabble's interest.

Chauncey on the other hand, took longer to realize he liked Scrabble. (Though it was obvious to Mukluk first). Look guys, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. Chauncey likes bad boys. Even if they're pathetically evil and think running around as his colleagues while saying dumb things is peak villainy, or helping Gin steal trophies because she got angry about getting a participation award again. Beyond that, when Scrabble isn't causing problems for everyone and everything...Chauncey actually finds him to be pretty funny.

Despite still being a villain when he first caught feelings for Chauncey, Scrabble didn't want Chauncey to become evil...he liked his friendly personality just fine! But like, if Chauncey wanted to y'know, join him and Gin to mess with penguins...that'd be awesome.

Despite her general distaste for EPF agents, and Chauncey at the time...at the end of the day, Gin is pretty ride or die. So despite wishing Scrabble fell in love with literally anyone else, I imagine she ended up trying to support him.

Richter and Mukluk however...well. Richter was deeply concerned about the idea of Chauncey returning Scrabble's feelings, not to mention the idea of them both dating. As for Mukluk...well, they thought it was hilarious. A drawing fell in love with their brother? AND he obviously likes it back? Funny stuff... Though Richter reluctantly became more accepting of their relationship when they became official (she still worries about Chauncey's well-being), Mukluk still sees it as a source of comedy. Which ah, does not bode well since they get along with Scrabble as well as water and hot oil.

Honestly? ...I can see these two meeting up out in the woods to hang out. Even if they weren't dating at the time...it was still exciting to hang out and be secret...friends? Sure, yeah. Friends. I'm sure this was another factor in Scrabble's redemption arc.

Anyway I like imagining Scrabble goes completely limp like that when he's relaxed. So for Chauncey to be holding him without him getting squirmy is the ultimate form of trust!

I also like to imagine that Doodle Dimensioners profess their love by presenting...ship art of themself and their potential partner, and if they accept then they become a couple. But since Scrabble is terrified of drawing people (and especially himself) he presented a drawing of a cozy beach-side to Chauncey because it reminded him of Chauncey. He loved it! (But ah, he didn't know what it meant and Scrabble thought it was a universal custom. Oops! I'm sure they worked things out, though.)

Anyway Scrabble's love language is gift giving and physical affection (despite being paper, he's actually a great hugger!) and Chauncey's is physical affection and words of affirmation.

Honestly I like to think they're one of those couples who are so sweet to each other they make your teeth hurt. In the good way.

They didn't get together right away when Scrabble became an agent...buuuut I'd say it took a year, maybe a year and a half at max before they became a pair.

Thanks to Chauncey's voiceclaim being RDP Rainbow Dash, I always think of this song when I think about this pairing.

I don't think they'd have a wedding, to be honest. I think they'd just eat a cake without the bells and whistles and call it a day. Even as a reformed guy, Scrabble doesn't like fitting in and prefers to stand out. Chauncey likes the simplicity of just being partners and doesn't feel the need to "make it official". Just being with Scrabble is good enough for him.

On Events, Part 1: Bangs and Reverse Bangs

I'm happy to say this year, I went completely ham with fan events. If my count is correct, I've completed eight-ish. Five of them have been big bangs, and one of the three was a reverse bang (for those curious, it's the SKK Big Bang, the SKK Reverse Bang, the Ranpoe Big Bang, the SSKK Big Bang, and the BSD Big Bang).

If you don't know what a big bang is, it's an event where an author writes a summary, an artist picks their top five or so, and they're paired up. The writer writes, the artist arts, the beta betas.

In a reverse bang, the artist arts and creates a summary for the image. The writer chooses which one to write and has the freedom and flexibility to adapt the artist's idea.

What I appreciate most about events like these is the opportunity to collaborate with people. While all of my teams have been incredible to work with, I think I appreciate my experience in the SSKK the most. My team and I worked really well together. I knew the beta from other events and servers, and the artist, beta, and I worked really well together. At one point, the artist expressed concern about overstepping by suggesting plot points, but honestly, I welcome the input. I join these events to collaborate and connect with other folks. It's always fun to see what kind of art people create.

Of course, I've had my fair share of road bumps. My partner (both beta and artist) in the SKK Big Bang just disappeared. Even now, I admire the mods working quickly to pair me, and the art from that bang turned out so soft, I still smile when I think about it.

In all my bangs, I have grossly underestimated my word count. I can't say much about my BSD Big Bang piece yet, but let me put it this way: I estimated the word count being between 40k and 65k. It turned out being 82k. With a spin-off. And a one shot for one of the rare pairs in it. And a sequel set in a totally different time period. That server is quiet, but I've appreciated the opportunity to connect with people in the fandom nonetheless, and I think the fact that my bang fics often spiral say something about how much I'm enjoying the creative process.

As someone whose most popular (and longest) longfic started with a single image (a future tumblr post?), I also found it really interesting to work in a reverse bang, and the collaboration there was great, too, and in the end, the artist drew three pieces.

If anyone is considering a bang, here's my advice:

If you're feeling insecure, remember others are likely feeling the same. Lean into that feeling. What you create as a result will probably surprise you.

If things go awry with your artist, it's not a comment on your work, but how the mods handle it can easily show something about server leadership (good and bad).

Finally, communicate your expectations, or if you're experiencing delays.

Binged Good Omens season 2. Spoilers spoilers spoilers spoilers

I loooooved it

However, it's worth noting that the way I loved it was different from the way I loved season one. I think any fans expecting Good Omens the remix might possibly be confused or disappointed. The scale of Good Omens was huge - so many players, so many interwoven storylines all coming together for the climax. Season 2 is a smaller deal - like Neil Gaiman's said, a transition between Good Omens and the story we'll hopefully get in season 3. The stakes are lower (in fact the stakes aren't always terribly clear), and the story is sillier. The focus on Aziraphale and Crowley, without the addition of Newt and Anathema and Adam and the Them, means the plot moves more slowly, there's more time to linger, and less mystery to parse.

But while some fans might be surprised, I'm definitely not complaining. I ate it up. We get Marvel movie after movie, all with huge stakes and epic storylines, and it's so much that honestly, don't you just want something smaller, where characters have some chance to develop, and maybe have some down time? That's Good Omens season 2. It's not a gripping adventure, but it is exciting and intriguing and very, very fun.

Here are a few of my thoughts:

I saw the teeniest spoiler in the world just by browsing tumblr, but it meant that I knew about Gabriel and Beelzebub going in. It didn't hurt me too much, since nothing happens till the last episode, but it meant I had a better idea of what was going on with Gabriel and the importance of the fly. The one thing I'm rather confused about is - why did Beelzebub greenlight Shax's plan to storm the bookshop? Was it just because they couldn't do anything else without it looking fishy? I may have missed some details.

I thought the Gabriel/Beelzebub relationship was nice. Some good ol' blasphemy hahahaha. But I will say, that after the Gabriel we got in season one, and after Crowley's threats toward him, the touching finale with everything just going Gabriel and Beelzebub's way left me a little disappointed. I don't think I wanted Gabriel to turn out to still be an asshole, I think that ship had sailed, but I suppose I was expecting him to do something a little more momentous. BUT. It's important to note that the the momentous thing probably IS that nothing momentous happened. There's a clear theme that love, protecting what you have, and enjoying the simple joys of life together are the truest expression of godliness. So I rather think that was very intentional, and having watched the season through once, on second viewing I think I'll feel differently since I'll come into it with fewer expectations.

I absolutely loved Nina and Maggie. It was lovely to see such a great, real, yet silly pair of women pining for each other, as well as a lesbian struggling with a controlling female partner, and her protective manner about it. I do wish the scene where they were locked in the coffee shop had been a little more substantial. It felt like it was meant to be, but it ended so fast. I didn't entirely understand what the point was of including Nina and Maggie... although again I think that was me expecting momentous when the point was simple human love. The fact that I enjoyed them says as much.

The social awkwardness and total out of touch thinking of the angels and demons was hilarious and relatable. The whole Job episode!!! It's what I think everyone feels when they read Job for the first time. I clearly remember being a kid and thinking "God allowed this??" And the little girl who wanted to be a blue salamander... So adorable

Now for all the fun with Crowley and Aziraphale. They were so fun. Sometimes they were a little too silly?? almost??? like when Crowley had to do the apology dance. I didn't understand that. But I look at it as the show reminding us, hey, these guys aren't cool. They're in love and hopelessly devoted. And that means being embarrassing around each other. That's real love, when you can be silly and embarrassing and wholly yourself with your partner. One of my favorite bits was Aziraphale driving the Bentley and turning it yellow xD

Oh and speaking of embarrassing and silly. The nerdy angel!Crowley making the Pillar of Creation in the beginning of episode one hooked me instantly. I was like "oh, this s gonna be GOOD." The purity of his love for creating, that he didn't feel a need for something to have a use to deserve to exist, and how upset he was to hear his creation wouldn't last... as well as how much Aziraphale was drawn to him, and concerned for him, it was all such good framing for the rest of the season. At the end, when Aziraphale tells Crowley "nothing last forever," I just know Crowley thought about the Pillars of Creation. I think in Crowley's mind, things die when they're no longer loved. He wants so much to protect what's important to him, and not be bossed around and told he has to lose something for the Greater Good or whatever.

As for Aziraphale. I think his choice, while heart-breaking, makes perfect sense for him. We were led the whole time to see that Aziraphale meddled on purpose to do good, not always with enough to nuance to know what that was, but meaning it. And Crowley meddled more to help Aziraphale than out of his own desire to meddle - which isn't to say he doesn't genuinely care about humans, but I think demon life just makes that a lot more difficult. Still he goes around protecting goats and children by his own will. He's fixed more on Aziraphale now, but that's in him as well. However, Aziraphale's the one who had faith in the system, and who wasn't 100% ready to part from it at the end of season 1. So Aziraphale deciding to return to heaven is not really that surprising, considering what he expects to gain from it. I do think this will bite him in the butt later, but I don't think he had bad reasons. And Crowley's reasons, for prioritizing his independence over being with Aziraphale, are equally valid. It's a great obstacle for them and the timing of the shift was painfully perfect.

And that finale. To be honest, I was a little frowny for a while, because I thought Maggie/Nina would get a kiss, and then Gabriel/Beelzebub were so romancey that I was like, "will everyone except Aziraphale and Crowley have a moment?" With them, there had been hints, lots of precious looks and lines, but nothing with oomph. I started to think, well, in the end Good Omens isn't a love story anyway... Ye of little faith!!! Crowley and Aziraphale get what I think was the only kiss in the season. It was definitely the most epic. I never should have doubted David Tennant and Michael Sheen. They're too used to each other for nonsense like internalized homophobia :> But I do have to say... the violins when their mouths meet... were a little much x'DDD I almost laughed. It was a very dramatic kiss, and a very dramatic reaction - a scene right out of a Katherine Hepburn movie. That, however, makes me love it more. Yes, let these middle-aged gay angels suck face and pine hopelessly for each other. Validate all those fanfics. Good Omens season 2 is the slow burn I always dreamed of

The cliffhanger ending is EXCRUCIATING. I wouldn't mind having to just wait a little, but it's gonna be years till season 3 - it's not even greenlighted yet! I will not make it y'all. I neeeeeeeeed the next season. Aarrrrggghhh. All good things are worth the wait, but I have to also SURVIVE the wait... XP

In sum: very silly, very touching, a different vibe than Good Omens, but still a very wonderful vibe. Also gay gay gay gay gay. Happy happy happy. Make them all gay! I'm fucking straight but I wish I was gay right now just so I could be even happier. It's a great story with great themes and great gay characters.

I've been gone for a long time and I feel like I've missed out on a lot of things. Give me an update on how Daren's been doing. How many different timelines and AUs do you currently have and what are they? What's his one (1!) scene/adventure that you personally love the most? What's the one ao3 Daren fic that I just absolutely need to catch up on? What's the thing that makes this character so special for you? A long answer is very welcome ❤️

Daren is doing well - still both my primary OC fixation, tool for self examination, and all around Bestest Boy. I've gotten so much more art of him and Anora kissing, its great! Going to Twitter was generally a hellish experience, but I participated in a lot of ask games and found some really cool mutuals who helped me develop him ever further so thats rad!

Oooh, only picking one scene is tough but I recently wrote some of Alistair and Daren’s escape from Fort Drakon and GODDAMN is it funny! At the start of DAO especially, Daren is really reserved and focused because of his trauma, but closer to end game his sense of humor really comes out. And neither one of them are dumb, per se, but they honestly don't have any common sense either so leaving them without Heulwen to be the brains turns any situation into pure slapstick.

For something actually published, my recommended reading is definitely "Jealous". I wrote it for ZevWarden week last year and I'm super proud of it. Features ballroom dancing, mild espionage, and Daren thinking about his feelings on marriage/romance and how badly he wants to be holding hands with his wife and his lover.

Honestly I think the thing that makes him so special to me is his resilience. In the wake of trauma and regret he still finds a way to keep pushing forward, but he doesn't let it make him cruel: even at his most vindictive or pragmatic, he does everything he does to protect others. I spend a lot of time thinking about his trauma and PTSD bc he helped me to recognize my own trauma symptoms. He is in a lot of ways the ideal of what I strive to be: not perfect, but honorable, loyal, and always trying his best to do the right thing.

As for AUs and timelines ...

The FusionVerse with @galfrey that started off as a fun little AU has definitely become his primary canon in my mind, so much so that people continue to be surprised that he isn't "technically" a Zevmancer. The actual writing is so so slow, but we've plotted out the future trajectory all the way to 9:58 (though of course DA4 is probably going to throw a wrench in all this). This is the universe where he romances Zevran and then marries Anora and Heulwen has an enemies-to-lovers-to-friends-to-partners slowburn relationship with Loghain. Post canon, Daren and Anora have twins (to their great relief) named Gareth and Eleanora and they're a pair of precocious terrors. Heulwen is the official HoF and Warden Commander so she does all the Awakening and Witch Hunt stuff while Daren is in Denerim rebuilding the country with his wife. It's basically the happiest/best possible outcome AU where nobody dies (Alistair even stays in the Wardens and gets a boyfriend: Carver Hawke)

The biggest canon change has been biting the bullet and saying that I wanted Daren to be able to recruit and then kiss Jowan. So he has two "solo canons" actually: the in game version where he was with Leliana and Magnus (my earliest OC) is the Inquisitor, and the "What if" canon where he kissed Jowan and Hallapan Lavellan is my Inquisitor.

Beyond that, there is -

- WardenQuisitor: what if Daren was the sole survivor of the Final Battle and then 10 years later had the misfortune to become Inquisitor? Basically a huge character study about trauma/PTSD and how important it is to have love and support if you hope to heal

- RomoVerse: what if he and Heulwen were star crossed lover's who were pulled apart by circumstance but never fell out of love? It's extremely sad and tender and Daisy keeps coming up with *more au's* where they can actually be together bc they're such a good couple

- ModernAU: exactly what it says on the tin. Daren is a trust fund baby, Anora is a lawyer, and Heulwen and Loghain are negotiating the very complicated power dynamics necessary to have a healthy relationship when there's a large age/social gap

- WardenThrouple: a high drama AU where Daren and Alistair dated during the Blight, Alistair married Anora, and then Heulwen romanced Daren and Loghain. Daren is the Warden Commander, Heulwen his Constable, and Loghain their right hand man. Basically an excuse for them to all kiss in one timeline and give Heulwen two children and no responsibility

- No Blight AU: what if the Blight had actually never really started? What would have happened next? A fun what-if exercise about Ferelden politics and a Second Civil War (basically Couslands and Mac Tir's vs Theirins and Guerrins). Daren is engaged to Anora, but starts falling for Heulwen who escaped from the Circle and it eventually develops into a Heulwen/Daren/Anora throuple. Also features a Jowan who was made Tranquil and an Alistair who finished his Templar training

Phew... there are actually even more, but those are the big ones and the only ones that are actually getting fic or art content are FusionVerse and WardenQuisitor ... the rest are just cool to think about!

def agree with your money point, i like sloot a lot but this feels like a “we need names and we’ll get them even if they don’t fit” type of situation but i have a weird trust in sandy after including becs in the trade. i dont see my libs getting a forward that can compliment the line up of sloot sab naj and jj and im even worried about how thorton fits in honestly. i feel like there’s a lack of confidence in sab almost? which like as a fan of hers hurts to acknowledge but as a player and coach i see why honestly

I think it's maybe just a little hard to find really good players that are gonna complement ionescu without taking away from her results. my own concept of her style of play is that she works best when she's the main focal point of the offense. you can pair her with a great big, especially one who's as good in the pick and roll as jj is. but a high quality guard partner is just hard to find. especially because even if they're at PG and sab is at the 2, the PG will still need to take a back seat to her

teams with a bunch of awesome starters are probably still gonna be great so hell maybe they'd win a chip anyway, but I thought they were trying to build around ionescu too. is this them not trusting her or is it just them going win-now at a really unconventional time?
