Based on an idea I thought of, I just had to get something down since I have to wait a bit. Sorry the banner is bad, I wasn't sure how to make it for this AU? This is mostly just me throwing out ideas so I have some down.

Yandere! Night Fury Hybrid! Hiccup Haddock Concept/Thoughts

(HTTYD Hybrid AU)

Pairing: Romantic

Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Animalistic yandere, Possessive behavior, Human/Hybrid, Manipulation, Biting, Dubious cuddling, Forced relationship implied, Mentions of mates, Guilt tripping, Violence, Mentioned murder, Kidnapping.

I feel at first we should be discussing how he'd look and act.

In terms of how he'd look it can very depending on your preference.

Personally I'd imagine he'd have the "ear horns" like Night Furies.

Then he'd have the wings, claws, and tail.

Maybe he even has the sharp teeth, retractable or not.

He could also have the eyes of a Night Fury, making him look relatively cat-like.

Probably also sleeps upside down.

Maybe you can place some black scales around his body but he still has human skin in some places?

That's a very general idea on what Hiccup could look like as a Night Fury hybrid.

In terms of behavior I'd imagine he'd act similarly to a Night Fury (shocker, I know).

He's stealthy, fast, and can use plasma bolts.

He probably purrs and growls when content.

Something I'm debating on is how he'd communicate with you.

There's three routes you could take with it.

The first one is he doesn't know any human language and communicates through actions or growls.

The second one is he knows limited language to communicate.

For the second one it could start with no language learned and you teach him it, or he knew it by observation of other humans.

The third is he knows fluent language, maybe not yours or maybe it is, but he can talk.

Don't get me wrong, regardless on how he communicates, he's still just as intelligent as your usual human.

Another thing that's dubious about the AU is if there is actual regular dragons.

There could be three separate factions (Humans, Hybrids, Dragons).

Naturally hybrids would be more attuned to dragons due to similarities.

It's that or there's only two factions (Humans and Hybrids), which have been at war for decades.

This is still a very new AU so "AU canon" is still unclear.

Honestly, the most exciting part of this is Night Furies in canon mate for life.

The same most likely goes for hybrids.

So I imagine once Hiccup is attached he plans to never leave you.

Plus, hybrids are most likely possessive similar to dragons.

Now, I feel you could meet Hiccup in many ways.

My favorite though? Maybe you even mirror how he meets Toothless in canon.

Maybe when you two are young (Hiccup's age in HTTYD 1), you help him with an injury.

Then you two slowly bond until you're both in your 20's.

Ever since you saved him he has been a companion by your side.

I imagine you could fly with hybrids but due to their humanoid form, they'd just carry you-

So instead of Hiccup finding a Light Fury hybrid to have a relationship with, he chooses you.

Hybrids would be compatible with humans most likely.

The first hybrid's origins are unknown, but it is implied they take human partners at times.

I can imagine when you're both 21 you try to find him a compatible mate or encourage it.

Meanwhile he doesn't want anyone but you.

Even since you were young, the hybrid knew you were the one for him.

He has never parted from you and your own father wonders what his intentions are.

I imagine when you were young it took awhile to warm up to each other, just like in HTTYD 1.

Hiccup starts off wary of you, wondering if you're safe to trust.

Then by the end of it he vows to protect and cherish you.

You'd both be teens then but your relationship between each other would start off as just companions.

However, this would be the first little seeds of his crush.

It's when you start getting older, reaching 18 and your 20's that he starts inching closer.

He often purrs around you and tries his best to understand your culture.

He craves your touch, often putting your hand on his cheek for comfort.

When you're both adults he probably starts showing behavior akin to wanting a mate.

He may try ro manipulate you into it, claiming you're the closest one to him.

He tries to make it sound like he'd be lonely forever if you don't accept his courting.

He claims he wants to hold you close and cuddle you for warmth since his kind hate the cold.

Yet you can tell by the way he wraps his tail around your waist that isn't quite it.

I imagine he'd bite you to mark you and often gets aggressive towards other humans and hybrids around you.

Hiccup may even share Toothless traits, like being the last Night Fury Hybrid in the world... right now.

Maybe you can help with that, hm? (If you're able)

In terms of if he'd murder, maybe.

He doesn't want to ruin your trust and any form of murder would be accidental.

Like if something blinded him with rage or he allowed his possessive behavior to take over.

Even then he personally may not feel bad for it, but acts remorseful to have your forgiveness.

Kidnapping? Again, a maybe.

For a Night Fury he's rather soft personality wise.

He'd be willing to live with you if you wished, then he could be more attuned to human culture.

Yet if someone tried to steal you from him then he's feel unsafe.

Feeling unsafe may lead to a stray plasma blast striking someone down or burning your home.

Which means he'll have to carry you to somewhere he can properly provide for you.

As a hybrid his diet is mostly fish or whatever Night Furies eat.

However, he could have human food too due to being partially human.

Hiccup would try to keep track of what humans need to provide for you.

When he wants affection he'll nuzzle into you, lay his larger body on top of you, and purr.

Like actual Night Furies, he acts like cats and bats.

Which means it's a bit strange to see him sleeping upside down at first.

Overall, Hiccup as a hybrid would retain his usual persona and a bit of Toothless.

He's a hunter... and your companion for life.

You may not like what he has in store for you, but he promises he does it out of love.

Httyd AU

So! Ghosts are nowhere near an Unknown Threat.

In fact, Ghosts and Creatures of the Realms have been attacking the Human World, preforming Raids on Amity Park, and stealing valuable objects and human food for just as long as they have been around. And they have been around for a while.

They first came into the Human Realm centuries ago, and so far Humans have been able to adapt.

Ghost Hunters are some of the most respected members of the Community. There are many different groups of them, and of these Groups the Fenton Family has always been one of the most famous and well credited of the lot.

They have been Hunting Ghosts since the days of their Ancestor, Jackson Fenton-Nightingale, who was the first of their lineage to change from Witch Hunting to Ghost Hunting.

In the modern age, Jack Fenton and his wife Maddie Fenton are some of the most respected Hunters in Amity. They have captured and killed more Ghosts and Realms-Beasts than anybody in the History of their Family. They have pioneered the new age of Ecto-Tech, bringing better and more effective weapons to the masses. They have singlehandedly managed to contain the Ghost Threat to the State of Illinois, and Amity Park in general. They are truly some of the Greatest Heroes of the Era.

The same cannot be said for their son.

Daniel Fenton has always been, well, Lacking, when compared to his Family.

He didn't inherit his Father's natural Musculature, nor his Mothers Prowess in Martial Arts, and while he is definitely an extremely intelligent boy, he does not measure up to the Intellect that the other members of his Family often achieve.

Even his sister, Jasmine Fenton, shows more promise than he does, and she isn't even a Ghost Hunter. Instead she devoted her life to becoming a therapist who can help those who have been affected by Ghost Attacks.

But Danny? He has never really showed much promise. He is definitely eager to prove himself to his Parents, but he never manages to help out in the field. Most of the time he even makes it worse.

And for Danny? It's infuriating! He has spent all his life trying to live up to the legend of his Family, trying to become a worthy Son. But he never succeeds.

He has made Tons of Inventions to help defeat Ghosts, but they were all thrown out because they were Non-Lethal. They always said that any Ecto-Weapon worth the materials it's made out of should end the Ghost before it has a chance to escape, so capturing them without killing them would be worthless.

But he wants to prove that his efforts are not in vain, if not to his family, than to himself.

So one night, as a particularly nasty Ghost Attack is going on, he rushes outside with a Weapon of his own Design. It was a Stun Gun, designed to hit the Ghost with a Beam of Pure Paralyzing Energy that would render it Immobile for hours. It was slightly large and bulky, but it still worked. At least, theoretically it did. He hadn't had a chance to test the Stun Gun yet, hence his little adventure.

He ran to the edge of Town, and tried to find a Ghost worth capturing.

Blobs? No, they've been caught before. Catching one wouldn't earn him any praise.

Skeleton? Those are a single tier up from Blobs, and not by much at all. Definitely not.

Ecto-Pus? Maybe, but it wouldn't be too useful for learning anything since it can't speak.

Spirits? They are the manifestations of Human Emotion, stronger than most other types of Ghosts, and they are suspected to be Intelligent. That's a good choice, it would probably be the best choice.

But there was one better. An Ancient.

The Ancients were the Ghosts that had been around for Centuries, possibly Millenia. They are Ghosts that are so Old, they have developed true Intelligence. Nobody had ever managed to kill an Ancient, they were too strong. The Ancients are the most Deadly, most Powerful, most Dangerous of all Ghosts.

If Danny managed to Capture one? He would skyrocket to Fame! He would be able to sit at the Lunch Table with the A-Listers, the town would stop seeing him as a disappointment, and his Parents would be so Proud of him! They might even come out of the Lab outside of Ghost Attacks to spend time with him!

So, he sat at the edge of town, watching the Portal that had opened up about a Mile outside of the City. He needed to be ready, in case an Ancient showed up.

Hours passed, and he was getting sleepy, when it happened.

"Ancient!"

The scream of warning came from his Radio, tapped into the Ghost Watch Channel used to keep track of Ghost Movements during attacks.

He looked at the Invasion Portal, and saw it. It was Humanoid, about 7 ft Tall, wearing Dark Plated Armor, with a Flaming Green Sword at its hip. Trying to stare into it's Face felt like staring into an Abyssal Void, with 2 pinpricks of Red denoting where its Eyes would be. The same Red Eyes all Ghosts had.

"Retreat! Retreat! The Fright Knight has emerged from the Invasion Portal!" Came the warning from his Radio. In the distance to his right, he could see the few Hunters who had been keeping watch on the Portal run to the safety of the Town.

Shaking off his fear, Danny rushed to his Target.

The Fright Knight was the most Feared of the Ancients, nobody had ever survived an encounter with it. There were even Rumors that it was the Leader of the Ghost Attacks, the coordinator.

And Danny knew that his Stun Gun wouldn't be enough to beat it. Not yet anyways.

So, instead of running directly to the Fright Knight, he ran to the small Open-Air Worksite that held his Parents' most Ambitious Creation. An Artificial Ghost Portal.

Years ago, his Parents had realized something. They couldn't stop the Invasion, because the Ghosts could never be cut off at the source. The Portal they used to enter the Human Realm was always a Natural One, it always closed after a few hours, so they had no chance of entering the "Ghost Zone" without immediately getting cut off from the Human World. Thus, they couldn't exterminate the Ghosts at the Source.

But what if they had a Stable Portal?

Then, the Humans could invade the Ghost Zone instead of the Ghosts invading the Human Realm. They would get an Edge in the Centuries old War.

But the Portal didn't work yet. They had been working on it for years at this point, but they had had absolutely no luck in making it functional. As an unintended consequence however, they realized that the Portal Frame was capable of generating Large Amounts of Energy, and it soon became the towns most Powerful Power Plant. It basically powered every home in the City, and powered the Shields that were put up above the Civilain Shelters during Ghost Attacks.

And Danny needed it.

His Stun Gun wasn't powerful enough to defeat the Fright Knight yet, but if he retrofitted it to draw on the immense power of the Portal Frame, it might be enough.

He rushed into the Open-Air Pavillion thay housed his Parents Portal Frame. It was an Immense Creation, semi-circular in shape but large enough that an entire Army could be comfortably Marxhed through.

He ran right to the center of the Device, pulling open a Panel in the middle of the Floor and fiddling around with the Wires for a minute.

It only took a short while before he had the Energy of the Portal Frame retrofitted to power his Stun Gun.

He raised the Weapon, and carefully aimed at the Fright Knight, still walking towards the Town.

He pulled the Trigger. And Everything went wrong.

The Gun didn't fire. Instead, he felt a rumble come from the Machine he was standing on, as lights began to light up on the edges of the Portal Frame. Somehow, he had accidentally rigged the Portal to attempt its activation Sequence when he tried to fire his Weapon.

Obviously, the Ring of activating lights had attracted the attention of the Fright Knight, and it had begun to move in bis direction.

In a panic he tried to fix his mistake. He moved around a few more wires, and tried again, and more lights turned on. He tried again, and suddenly a high pitched sound began to play around him.

He tried one more time, and help his heart leap with joy as his gun finally began to power up. He looked up to see where the Fright Knight was, and felt his elation drop in an instant when he noticed that it had already entered the Outdoor Lab Space.

The next few seconds felt like they took hours. He felt his heart stop as the Fright Knight began to rush forward. It was about to reach him.

Then, his Gun pinged to tell him they it was ready, and he pulled the trigger.

The world around him erupted in green Light as the beam from his Stun Gun fired out with much more force than it was ever intended to handle. The Beam of Light was so wide that it completely encompassed the Towering Fright Knight's form.

But at the same time as the Gun fired, the Portal finished it's attempted activation sequence. And the World turned green for a different reason.

Danny felt billions of volts run through his Body as the Portal activated, his screams being drowned out by the sound of Reality fraying at the seams as the Portal attempted to push through it.

But ultimately the Portal failed. It turned off, just as it was about to break through to the other side. The sudden burst of energy also seemed to affect the Stun Gun, as it blew up at the same moment the Portal turned off.

Danny was launched out of the Portal Frame, landing in the center of his Parents Outdoors Lab, unconscious.

It took nearly an hour before his Parents arrived, looking to investigate the sudden Portal Activation and Explosion. Whatever had happened caused a blackout throughout the entire Town, shutting off Ghost Shields and inciting panic throughout the City, meaning they had to wait hours before they could investigate.

They found Danny laying unconscious in their Lab, and called for someone to help him as they worked on getting Power back to the Town.

When he woke up, Danny was Reprimanded for his actions that night. Nobody believed him when he said that he had beaten the Fright Knight, and since communication went down with the Power, Nobody could confirm that the Fright Knight had actually been pushed back. It was far more likely that nobody had seen it after it entered the town, and it had left with the others when the Portal began to close.

But Danny knew what had happened, so the first chance he got, he escaped out into the woods surrounding Amity Park and began searching for his Target.

It took hours of searching, but eventually he found the Fright Knight, laying on it's side in the dirt.

Danny was elated at first, he had captured am Ancient! But then he took a closer look. He didn't know why, but for some reason he felt odd about the Ghost. He felt confusion, but not his own. Relief, but coming from somewhere else. Hope, but coming from Him. The Fright Knight.

In that moment, he didn't know why, but instead of dragging him back to the City or further restraining him, Danny pulled the Knight up into a sitting position, feeling it would be more comfortable like that.

He turned around for a moment to see if anybody was around, but when he turned back he was met with a terrifying sight. The Fright Knight was standing up, towering over Danny. He looked up to see it's face, and saw that it was glaring at him with an unrestrained rage.

Danny cried out when he was pushed to the ground, landing against a Rock, looking up in terror. The Knight took out his Sword, and before Danny could cry out in fear, it plunged the Sword down.

Into the Boulder next to Danny's head.

When he finally opened his eyes, the Knight was gone, leaving only the cracked rock next to his head and a sense of lingering terror.

In that moment, Danny only felt on things register in his Mind.

Where it's eyes always Green?

...

This got a little out of hand, but I hope you liked it.

The idea is that Ghosts have been attacking the Human Realm for Centuries, raiding the Villages to steal valuables and Human Food, terrorizing the world for years.

Hunters like the Fentons managed to contain them in Illinois, more specifically Amity Park.

Danny is Hiccup in this. He is the wimpy weak little kid that nobody respects because he doesn't live up to his Family Legend.

Fright Knight is Toothless, but instead of helping Danny learn how to ride Dragon, he helps him learn to use his newly found Ghost Powers. (Because I included the Portal scene for a reason, he became a Halfa and seeks out Frighty when he realizes hat he had Ghost Powers. He's kind of the only option after all)

If you didn't guess it, Pariah Dark is the Queen Dragon. He used his power as Ghost King to control every Ghost in the Zone, forcing them to raid the Human World and bring him offerings. He isn't obsessed with taking over the world, he is obsessed with being seen as a God, and Gods need to get Offerings.

When Danny hit Frighty with the Stun Gun, he knocked the Mind Control out of him and Frighty was freed.

From then on it would follow some similar story beats to Httyd, but also different.

Maybe the other Movie's could introduce other Characters? Maybe Freakshow is Viggo from the 2nd Movie?, or Vlad is Grimmle from the 3rd Movie? The Plots could fit as well.

If you want it to be DpxDc, you could say that the JLA thought the situation in Amity was handled and didn't think they needed to assist.

When they learn how bad it actually was they are freaked out. Especially since this was a Centuries Old Conflict that has been happening since before America was even founded.

I have made a new boy

Hes wus biological son in this au so he gets some dragon traits :D he can't really shapeshift but he can make his wings big for flight, though he usually keeps them small so they don't get it the way. Also you bet your ass hes got lil dragon toe beans hiding under those claws

Story is a bit different. Hes not the master of wind but he does have a bit of wu's power, though it really inly manifests as faster healing and a nice classic dragon laser/blast from his mouth (think toothless from. httyd + laser depending on what he wants) the whole green ninja things still happens though in the cursed realm he's not so much a respected general as he is the preeminents dog, and though he hated her he can't exactly do anything about it. She's the one who put the collar/chain on him and the weird lines on his face are scars from muzzle that stopped him from using his power and talking. He did not possess Lloyd in this au he just did the stuff on his own since he actually is a spinjitzu master in this au. And of course he gets saved and redeemed <3

I love him dearly he is a silly little baby he is the size of a kitten. I want to hold him in my hands and he will try to bite me and it will not hurt because he is tiny.

An Alternative Ending for HTTYD: Astrid as Chief AU

This article mainly discusses the possibility of Astrid becoming the chief, with a few mentions about the fate of the dragons. The ideas presented are highly subjective and contain strong criticism of the third movie including the light fury.

I have always believed that Astrid should be the chief instead of Hiccup. It's unnecessary to mention her wisdom and personality; anyone who has watched the series knows that Astrid is incredibly smart and empathetic. In terms of leadership abilities, Astrid is not inferior to Hiccup. Throughout the series, she often steps in as the leader when Hiccup is absent, provides calm and objective advice when Hiccup is impulsive, and assists in leadership tasks. Furthermore, Astrid has a stronger sense of belonging and a greater desire for power and honor compared to Hiccup. She follows the chief's guidance closely; for instance, in the first movie, she is particularly enthusiastic about fighting and training. After flying with Hiccup, her immediate thought is to report the dragon nest discovery to Stoick because her education leads her to understand that this aligns with the generations-long goals of Berk and benefits the entire tribe. She embodies the qualities of a powerful Viking, driven by her care and responsibility for Berk and its people. Additionally, besides her traditional Viking courage and strength, she is not overly stubborn. She was the first, apart from Hiccup, to accept dragons, and when Hiccup stood firm in his beliefs (assuming they were reasonable), Astrid didn't stubbornly report the news to the chief, showing her clear independent thinking and judgment.

Astrid is the type who knew what she wanted from a young age. In contrast, Hiccup was always marginalized, uncertain about his future goals, and unsure of what kind of person he wanted to become. Such a person, who takes a long time to find himself, is not suited to be a chief. Conversely, Astrid has clear goals and a strong desire for glory and to contribute to her tribe. This is why, at the beginning of the second movie, she joins the guard, and in the series, she always finds tasks for herself (like the A-Team). I have reason to believe that if given the chance, she would aspire to the position of chief (her excitement upon knowing that Stoick wanted Hiccup to succeed him and her expression of joy at the thought of becoming chief herself are evidence of this).

As for Hiccup, as mentioned earlier, he was marginalized from a young age and therefore does not strongly identify with the traditional Viking values that emphasize solving problems through force. Many fan theories suggest that if Astrid hadn't followed him that day and discovered his secret friendship with a dragon, Hiccup might have recklessly left. This indicates his greater desire for freedom, and becoming chief somewhat suppresses his nature. Even in the second movie, he still shows a bit of impulsiveness. Although Hiccup demonstrates strong leadership in the TV series and even learns how to be a leader from his father, I believe this leadership is more about his extraordinary wisdom and strong mediation skills. Hiccup's talents clearly lie in invention, research, and exploration. He independently recreated the Dragon Eye, for instance! Isn't it a waste of talent to have such a genius manage village affairs daily instead of focusing on developing Viking technology? Hiccup has leadership qualities, but they are not about commanding people or managing large-scale affairs. Another often overlooked strength of Hiccup is his teaching ability. In the first movie, he quickly teaches the main group to ride dragons (narrative needs aside, his personal ability plays a role). At 15, he starts a dragon academy in the TV series and teaches everyone effectively. He might not even realize this strength. I believe Hiccup's struggle to find his self-goal is largely due to his father's pressure, pushing him towards becoming a chief, which he is not suited for.

Astrid Chief AU

Hiccup After handing over the chief duties, Hiccup becomes a teacher, educating children about various subjects, including ironwork, mechanics, plants, and dragons. (Indeed, Hiccup has vast knowledge and rich experience from being an apprentice in the forge from a young age.) He would take students on field trips to different dragon and creature habitats, aligning with his love for exploration. During the day, he teaches students, and in his spare time, he collaborates with Fishlegs, now a civil official, to compile information, invent, and assist his wife in managing the village.

Astrid After the events of the second movie, Hiccup temporarily serves as chief. However, after serious discussions and preparations, Astrid becomes the official chief. She would be a diligent, open-minded leader. (Regarding children, since Hiccup already works at the school and deals with many kids, adding a couple of their own wouldn't be much different. At home, they would raise their children together.)

The role of the guard would be taken over by Snotlout.

Dragons Is it really a good idea to hide the dragons in the Hidden World? Depriving them of their freedom and the joy of soaring in the sky? Weren't there dragons in the Hidden World before Toothless became their king? What about the many dragon islands shown in the TV series? And the other protectors? Are they all gone? How can Hiccup be sure that all dragons went to the Hidden World? (The third movie is full of plot holes I don't even want to discuss. As for Light Fury, pairing her with Toothless is less convincing than pairing him with Cloudjumper.) Hence, the so-called "protection" is actually meaningless.

I hope the people of Berk indeed released the dragons because Astrid and Hiccup realized they were overly dependent on them, and Berk was running low on resources. Living in harmony with dragons doesn't mean keeping them. Toothless helps them return dragons to their original habitats (definitely not the Hidden World, which I don't acknowledge exists), but contact between humans and dragons is not forbidden. Essentially, the dragons are released back into the wild. After all, dragons are not pets.

Hiccup would still fly with Toothless privately, but to set an example of equality between humans and dragons for their children, he would use traditional means of transportation in daily life (we all know that kids seeing cool animals would immediately want to own one).

Berk

Simply put, I don't wish for or believe that the people of Berk would so easily abandon the land their ancestors have lived on for generations. I trust they would stand their ground, even if it means fighting until the village is burned to the ground, only to rebuild it after the war is won. (After watching so many movies and episodes, I've grown attached to Berk.)

Anyway these are my own point of view I absolutely happy to know if you got any ideas! And also I am so FREAKING DESPERATELY to read any novels or view any doodles of CHIEF ASTRID plz can anybody give me some charity, I'm just a poor little person.

Summary: A Httyd Zombie AU set in the modern world. There are dragons.

At 15, Hiccup believes his biggest struggles are teachers who won't stop hounding him for his grades, a father who doesn't quite listen to him, or how unpopular he is at school. Every regular teenager's worst nightmare, right?

But then a new and mysterious illness that's been rapidly spreading amongst the populace takes a surprising turn and the day comes Hiccup wishes his former daily struggles had been the only struggles he would have to deal with.

He is, after all, just a kid.

My Thoughts: This story has everything! It’s got full and fleshed out relationships between the characters. The character dynamics are just so good. It’s got dragons! A modern zombie AU with dragons is such a cool concept, and it was executed so well. I have yet to finish reading it, but I’ve enjoyed each and every chapter of this. Okay so. Self-indulgent HTTYD fanfic idea!!! (+ General stuff about main AU

Can't get this out of my head so I'm putting this out there even though I'm not sure I'll ever write a single chapter for this lol

To start off - I imagine this story would feature almost exclusively OCs and have basically nothing to do with canon characters until possibly waaaaay later into the story or like, a sequel if I got that far. It also would take place in my version of the HTTYD universe/my main AU, so certain major events happened differently or never happened at all, various minor details may be changed or ignored entirely, a couple of dragon species may be redesigned if they appear at all, etc..

Really what I'm trying to say is this fic wouldn't be something very many people would be interested in and I'm totally okay with that lol.

Anyway, with that out of the way let's get into what it would actually be about:

After what was supposed to be an easy job goes horribly wrong, a young dragon trapper has an experience that challenges her beliefs and causes her to question if she really wants to continue in her parent's footsteps.

(She stares at the beast. At first glance, it is so very different. But is it truly that different after all?)

As you probably guessed from that simple summary or whatever you'd call it, the fic would be about a young dragon trapper/hunter questioning what she's been taught all her life about dragons after one saves her, and the friendship that slowly forms between her and that dragon. (And yes I imagine the dragon is a Northern Night Fury* because this would be written by me, were you expecting anything different lmaoo)

I realize it could perhaps be a bit too similar to HTTYD 1.....what can I say, it's my favorite movie and I really love it and its themes - but really I do feel like the story/characters I'm imagining are different enough to not have it feel like a cheap knockoff.

But anyway! A couple of details and things I've come up with so far because I have more than just the main idea(s):

- The fic would begin a little after the events of HTTYD 2 - which I imagine HTTYD 2 happened mostly the same as in canon, but I'm seriously debating having Hiccup be the chief/stay the chief in my main AU. Not to go off on a bit of an unrelated tangent but honestly, I'm one of the people that thinks he's just not that well suited for the role. And like yeah, I get the whole parallel - Hiccup becomes the leader of the humans of Berk like how Toothless becomes the leader of the dragons of Berk - but I'm just saying even some of the people who worked on the film thought Astrid should be chief lol

- Anyway so I imagine the young dragon trapper's parents (and their parent's crew) are skilled and pretty well respected dragon trappers/hunters that worked for/supplied dragons to Drago in the past, but since his defeat they've been kinda struggling to find a new employer(s) and have had to travel to unfamiliar areas to find unprotected wild dragons.

- That's how the young dragon trapper ends up in the situation™. She's out helping a small group of older and more experienced trappers with what sounded like an easy job, but due to them getting a bit too cocky on an unfamiliar island they end up getting ambushed by a powerful and territorial dragon. It goes about as well as you would expect it would and our young dragon trapper is certain she's about to die just like the others until! The chonk swoops in and scares off the other dragon!

- Existential crisis time because she just got saved by a dragon.

Other things:

- By "young" I mean around 19-20 or so and not like, a literal child - I imagine the chonk is also around the same age lol

- Also in my AU, while some dragon species are more comparable to parrots/cetaceans/etc., most species could be considered sapient in a human sort of way even if they don't necessarily have literal human-level intelligence in all areas. There's even a couple of species, such as Furies, that I imagine have actual human-level intelligence - they just don't act like humans since they're giant reptiles/reptile-like creatures and don't process the world in the exact same way as humans do and have evolved to have different instincts, etc.

- Soooo because of that I think the idea of occasionally having a chapter from the POV of the chonk would be fun. Even if it's only a chapter or two I could explore the idea of why she decided to save the human (could be really interesting I think, especially if the chonk knew/understood she was a dragon trapper/hunter and chose to save her anyway).

This is really long and I've been working on this post for hours and um yeah. Enjoy I guess?

(*Northern Night Furies are a fan species made by me, basically they're big chonky seal inspired Furies that live in very cold environments. They're usually very friendly and curious creatures.)

Hey! Saw your essay about the inconsistencies. Ah ye. When contrasting the Httyd movies with the shows, I like to not take it all that seriously. "But the shows are canon!!!!!" the shows are a beautiful and meaningful AU of the movies and vice versa; I've fared wonderfully treating them like that. Keeping the good parts for inspo and tossing the rest tbh.

E.g. I'm keeping Dagur and Viggo and the Fireworms for canon. Maybe there was an outpost called Dragon's Edge once, but I like to think to myself that Hiccup merely used it as a weekend base camp / storehouse for further explorations rather than actually living there for extended periods of time. He had to make all his Httyd2 improvements on Berk somehow within those five years lol. He would have had to abandon Dragon's Edge wayyy earlier to be able to have a constant presence on his home island that would earn him the village's support and Stoick's eye regarding Chieftainship. I'm definitely keeping the volcano eruption though. Also the Buffalord, the amazing Season 4 Hiccstrid kiss, the Night Terrors and Chicken. And of course the gang becoming better friends.

...On the other hand I'm definitely treating Heather, Mala, the Wingmaidens and all the dragons I don't personally like as vivid fever dreams lol. I'm also ignoring the comics. Had Hiccup truly encountered Viggo and gone through all of that Rtte character development canonically, he wouldn't have acted as naive as he did in Httyd2... Viggo already taught him better than that.

Those are just my two cents, they are also helping me embrace such things as Homecoming etc.

If you could build your canon however you liked, what would you keep? :)

I don't know if you meant it like this but I do want to clarify that I adore the first 2 movies, GotNF, LotB, RoB, DoB, and RttE. And I like elements of Httyd 3 and Homecoming, but not them in general.

(I have no intention of reading the comics - they don't interest me).

Criticising stuff I like, and pulling it apart to see how it ticks is literally my biggest hobby, so, no problems enjoying it there.

I would honestly keep most of it, so here's a list of some of what I'd remove instead:

The inconsistencies between httyd 1 ending and RoB opening - mostly to do with the dragons' integration into Berk and the new infrastructure for the dragons.

Stoick's inconsistent and easily swayed opinion on the dragons - he would never allow them to be banished from Berk unless he was physically forced to. They saved Hiccup's life, they pretty much are Hiccup's life, and he would never dishonour Valka's memory by going against her ideals (esp since her son basically redeemed her weirdness by proving her right 15 years later).

Gothi's role - she shouldn't be the only healer on Berk, she shouldn't even be a healer. They made new characters for Mulch, Bucket, Mildew, Johann, Silent Sven, Alvin, Savage, Dagur and Heather (and most of those are males) so just kick one of those out and build a new healer for Berk (bonus points if its a relation of one of the Riders e.g. a Thorston).

Johann's villain arc - I've talked about this a lot already so I won't repeat myself but this was an atrocious direction to take.

the A team should not include those characters. Bucket and Mulch are farmers WHAT are they doing here. Gothi is old as fuck and she's got important shit to be doing (like apparently being the ONLY healer on Berk - srsly what r u gonna do when she dies?). Spitelout is on the Berk Council and is one of the main leaders of their military, why would he want to be bossed around by a 19 yro. the only one who makes sense is Gustav.

why does Astrid have to build the A team at all?? shouldn't Stoick or the entire military force of Berk teach themselves to use dragons to fight off invaders????

Astrid randomly deciding to be Mother to dragons like Garf and throwing away all her military training and paranoia to bring said dragons on actual military operations??? like just say you needed a conflict and picked The Woman to throw under the bus.

The Bewilderbeast beneath Beserker Island. I don't like how... fucky.. this makes the plot. We didn't need this, we could have just ended on Johann & Krogan heading towards Valka's mountain, which could explain why Hiccup was still exploring the archipelago in httyd 2. then we could have done a post-credits-esque scene with Valka decimating Johann and Krogan. boom, vibes preserved, plotholes kind of prevented.

ok theres probably a lot more but this was all i could think of. Ik it looks like a lot but most of it is just tweaking canon. the majority of RoB, DoB, and RttE are wonderful. otherwise I wouldn't give half of a shit about them.

For many years now, Astrid has been the chieftess of Berk and she’s been a Dragon Rider for much longer. She has seen many things in her life, been through a lot of bad and a lot of good, her body itself is a storybook. She considers them the reason why she is the capable warrior and leader that her people need her to be today.

But this… this is a first.

It happens at the end of a battle. The Berserkers were under attack by a hostile tribe and the Hooligans responded to their call for aid, honoring their alliance. The enemy was numerous and strong, but they were still both outmatched and outnumbered by their warriors, their dragons and their Dragon Riders. Their attempt to plunder the Berserkers was cute for sure, but in the end they had to admit defeat. The Berserker Chieftess, Heather, captured their leader.

Their spat was about the dragons. Just because the Berserkers have a few, having adopted Berk’s human-dragon utopian lifestyle, they were mistaken for being them. The thought of it makes her scoff, her late-husband didn’t dedicate his entire life to his mission of helping humans and dragons co-exist just for another tribe to be given that glore, whether it was on purpose or not.

Cleaning her axe free of blood, Stormfly pads up behind her and picks at her braid.

“Stormfly,” Astrid greets her dragon, her most trusted companion. Swinging her weapon over her shoulder and turning towards her to hold her chin. They’ve survived another battle together and she can see that the other Dragon Riders have as well, it does her heart good. The twins are a little signed, but nothing that they haven’t survived before.

Astrid realizes the reason she and her friends are still alive is in part due to the help of the wild dragons in the area joining the fight. It’s not an entirely uncommon occurrence, it’s happened on occasion in the past. Astrid is just glad that their unlikely friends could somehow tell the difference between the Hooligans, the Berserkers and the enemy for once. If humans fight in a territory they consider theirs, dragons tend to think every human is an interloper, even if they’re Dragon Riders.

No matter, it means they can all go home alive and relatively unharmed. Besides a sore shoulder where she took a bludgeon, she’s okay. She has her pauldrons to thank for that, her right one is bent out of shape.

Stormfly begins to chirp and squawk, her wings flap and flutter, head bobbing as if greeting. Out of nowhere, any hint of tiredness seems to have disappeared as she’s suddenly excited.

“Stormfly!” Astrid attempts to ease her dragon, wondering just what has ruffled her proverbial feathers. The Nadder seems to be calling out to something or someone. Astrid turns to look at who or what it is. When she realizes the source for her dragon’s excitement, she feels her heart halt behind her breast.

Up there, up on top of a cliff, she sees a dragon she hasn’t seen since before she became the chieftess of her village. A black and intimidating creature rare in the Barbaric Archipelago; a Night Fury. And Astrid swears she recognizes this one.

“Toothless?” The name slips past her lips before she can stop it, she hasn’t said it out loud in years.

The Night Fury looks her way and there’s no mistaking it. That’s him. It has to be him! One of her boys!

That’s when she sees the unmistakable figure of a man kneeling next to him, looking down from the cliff at the battlefield below with interest.

At the sight of him, her heart is torn out of her chest all over again, old wounds bleed and the iron chieftess of the nigh unbeatable human-dragon tribe is moved to tears.

Not even the distance between her position and the top of that cliff can dispute it. That’s Toothless and the man next to him is Hiccup.

She doesn’t know how it’s possible.

Years ago, decades ago, her husband and his dragon left their village together with her mother-in-law and her dragon, the Stormcutter Cloudjumper, on a mission and none of them ever returned. There were no letters, search and rescue missions turned up nothing, neither allies nor enemies had any idea where they might’ve gone. Valka and Cloudjumper eventually turned up, but even they had no idea what had happened to Hiccup and Toothless.

And now here they are.

“Hiccup,” a crack in her voice, a couple of steps closer, Astrid can’t find the strength to climb up on Stormfly’s back. She should be going right up there, question him, hug him and never let him go. Hug them and never let them go.

But something stops her and that something is the details.

Astrid is no longer a young woman. She has matured, she has wrinkles and a couple of gray hairs, though time has only aged her like a fine wine and she finds she’s stronger than she was back then.

But Hiccup… it’s as if he hasn’t aged a day. Perhaps, it’s the distance, but it’s truly as if she’s gazing up at her young husband, who she lost before they could start a family. They just barely got to celebrate their one year anniversary.

Stormfly calls out again, head bobbing, and Hiccup looks over. Their eyes meet and Astrid is even more convinced that she’s staring up at familiar eyes.

But there’s… no response. No flash of recognition on his part, not a hint of softness in his features, no attempt to say anything to her, even his attire appears guarded.

Not one single battle injury can ever compare to the pain and confusion she feels. The only comparison was the devastating realization that she was never going to see the love of her life ever again.

“Hiccup!” So she takes the first step, she calls out to him and finally there’s something of a reply.

He stands and backs away, Toothless growling.

“Fishlegs! Heather!” Astrid turns to the battlefield behind her, hoping she’s not the only one to see this, hoping to get someone’s attention, alert them. But they’re somewhat isolated, they’ve ended up quite far, friends looking her way, but incapable of seeing what she’s seeing or understanding what she’s shouting. Tuffnut cups both ears, Ruffnut is waving her arms while Snotlout is staring. Fishlegs is the only one running over.

By the time he reaches her, Hiccup might be gone.

So she climbs up on Stormfly back, intending to urge her dragon to go up to where she spotted her lost love. But when she looks up, the cliff is empty. Hiccup is already gone and so is Toothless.

And just as suddenly, she can’t stop the tears or the sobs from coming.

So like I haven't completely thought it out but-

✨DP x HTTYD AU✨

In this au, Berk gains a few new residents, namely the Fentons. Originating from faraway lands, Jack and Maddie have sailed the oceans in their youth, searching for ghosts and ghouls and all sorts of paranormal spooks until they found the Barbaric archipelago and realised that there was way more spooky things going on here than anywhere else in the world.

They spent some more time sailing the archipelago before ultimately deciding to set up shop at Berk, which saw the most paranormal activity and was located closer to the foggy, mysterious Helheims gate than any other inhabitable isle.

Now what did the barbaric archipelago have in spades that the rest of the world only had in slivers? Paranormal activity. Paranormal activity and dragons.

In fact, according to Fenton research which is 100% accurate always don't worry about it, the places that see the highest levels of spooky happenings are also the places that see the most dragons. There must be some connection between dragons and spirits, they are sure, they just don't know what.

And hence the Fentons decide to settle down in Berk, where vikings and dragons libe together in not-harmony. Well to be honest, they don't live together per se, they stay in the same area code and throw hands on sight I guess.

The vikings are not initially all that welcoming of the Fentons, never outright disapproving of them, but they were given the cold shoulder quite often. It was painfully obvious that they had never seen a dragon up close, and their teenager like eagerness to see one made it even more so. Everyone had thought that they'd go running in the opposite direction after witnessing their first dragon raid.

And then the dreaded day of the raid finally arrived and the Fentons took out two zipplebacks at the same time. On the first day.

Accepting them wasn't half as hard after that.

Fast forward a few years till Jazz and Danny are born and Danny is fourteen.

The Fentons are a part of the village, despite still generally being regarded as weird and strange for wasting so much time with weird contraptions and spirits. But they kill their fair share of dragons and earn their keep, so its all fair and square. Everything is fine.

Everything except their son, Danny.

He's been off lately. Skipping dragon training, running off at the oddest of moments, especially during raids and still returning all banged up, despite never even fighting anymore. Widely regarded as a coward and freeloader, pretty much everyone disapproves of him.

Everyone except the chief's son, Hiccup.

Though they hadn't really spoken to each other before, Danny's newfound incompetence in dragon killing does garner sympathy from Hiccup. You can call it the connection between the two biggest failures of their respective generation. And it doesn't hurt that Danny and his sister were the only ones who were nice to him most days.

The movie goes on as in canon, Hiccup shoots down toothless, finds him in the cove, starts slowly befriending him, etc etc.

Meanwhile, Danny has been busy beating up ghosts. His parents were right when they said there was a connection between dragons and ghosts. Dragons are creatures of the in between, the domain between life and death. They are not of this world, or the other, but they exist in both. This meant that they could potentially travel to and from this othe world. Using dragon's blood and some spellwork, they came up with several different portals to this other realm, none of which actually worked. Especially this new one, which didn't even spit out billowing green smoke like all the other ones.

Until Danny walked over it and tripped. Apparently the portal needed a sacrifice. Fun.

And then he died but not really so now he's a half ghost boy desperately trying to not let his parents find out.

Also did I mention that portal did not close and the ghosts turn up whenever there's a raid? Yeah. They do that now. So now he has to run off to the portal in the caves below their house whenever there's a raid to prevent them from harming others.

Eventually he decides to find out what's the deal with ghosts showing up only during dragon raids and decides to turn intangible and fly on over to Helheims gate on night. And that night happens to be the same night hiccup and toothless fly too close to the nest and toothless gets hypnotized.

I'll decide what happens after that in the morning.

Woah wow. Jay writes ideas for the HTTYD au for NPMD because he's enough of a nerd that they'd get killed in that musical.

Right. Gonna go over each of our main cast a bunch. It's gonna be a lot probably. But it's gonna be fun. Because of that. Below the cut.

Peter

As I said in my original post, I think Pete would be out stand in Hiccup. I don't think the Spankoffskis are quite chief status. But I also don't think they're the lowest class. Middle class Peter. Thanks to research, this actually is present in the types of clothes that each character would wear so I'm also gonna talk about that.

Being middle class, I think Pete has access to furs and new fabrics. Maybe some leather from their ancestors has been passed down from when their clan was a higher class. If so, I think it would be found as belts or bands around their wrists. He's not in tattered clothing, but I also think he's crafty. He'd likely prefer to repair his clothes himself instead of getting new ones.

Now onto the dragons.

As I said. Pete is our Hiccup. I think he tries to kill a dragon - to impress Steph - but only manages to wound it. He's unable to kill it and nurses it back to health.

I want to avoid having them fly night furies. So I think Pete's dragon would be a Grapple Grounder. Because I think it's very Tinky. And that's what I'm going with for their dragons. Each of our main sixes dragons are the LIB I associate with them most. :) (Also I'm not going in depth with regards to the dragons. I'm using the wiki for it.)

Pete has a general dislike to killing dragons, but he understands why they do it. I think when he kickstarts the island into liking dragons, Ted doesn't go against him as much as Stoic does to Hiccup. But I think Ted does try to steer his brother into a better approach to helping them understand. This only comes after finding the Grapple Grounder wrapped around the wood pillars of their house.

Steph

Steph is the Astrid stand in but she's the daughter of the Chief (Solomon). She's got all new cloths and furs and leathers to show for it, too.

I think she's entirely capable of killing a dragon and has done it before. She just doesn't want to do it a lot because. Of course she doesn't. Whether it's out of a genuine dislike for killing dragons or her wanting to go against her dad is yet to be seen (it's a bit of both).

Before Pete finds the dragon, I think she still thinks he's cute. But in more of a "you're gonna die out here, let me protect you" way.

When Pete takes her on the first flight, I think she fully starts to fall for him then.

I think her dragon would be a sand wraith because it has a big mouth. And her dragon is nibbly.

I don't think Solomon ever opens up to the idea of dragon riding. Not even when everyone else starts to. I think it gets him killed and because of this, Steph takes over rule of the island. And she does it well, I think, once she learns to.

Ruth

Oh Ruth. I think Ruth is lower class - in an orphanage with Richie, honestly. Both of their parents were killed by dragons. Thanks to this, they wear mainly cloth clothing and have plenty of repairs they've done to them, themselves.

Ruth wants to kill a dragon but she underestimates herself because everyone else does. She's the smallest adult on the island and is incapable of killing even a smaller dragon like a Terrible Terror.

Her dragon is a Slithersong. Because Pokey. And the slither-song is black and blue and that's too perfect to pass up.

I think she's less inclined to trust the dragons when Pete tries to get everyone behind him. But when she sees that Richie trusts them - and probably even Steph trusts them entirely first - Ruth comes around to it.

Richie

Already did this opening part on Ruth's part so. No need to go over it again.

I think Richie loves to read about the dragons, he wants to learn all about them and learn how they tick - he also thinks they're just very cool. But I think he understands and is - at first - encouraging of the killing. He's probably killed a few himself.

I think he's incredibly open to the concept of not killing the dragons, despite this. I think he's willing to change his mind because he knows so much about them outside of hunting them. He's one of the first to trust Peter when he says about training them.

His dragon is a Changewing (wiggly) because they can come in green and honestly. Read the wiki for this one. If you're gonna do it for any of them. This is the one where you'll be like "oh this is wiggly as a dragon".

Grace

Grace, like Pete, is middle class. She's got cloth and fur and family leather, but not as much as a chief or other higher class families would have. But she does have more than Peter.

I think she's a firm believer in killing the dragons thanks to her parents filling her with the same fear and hatred for the creatures that they were.

She's not very open to riding one, until she does, and then she almost definitely goes the complete opposite extreme. As I said in my original post, I think she'd be very likely to be an ally in the first movie, and an antagonist in the sequel. I don't know what her motivation would be. Just know that I think she would be.

Her dragon would be the Hobblegrunt. (Blinky). It's sensitive to emotions and changes colors due to them, so I think having that with a villain Grace would be an interesting concept.

Her parents don't ever really change their minds on dragon riding, though. Even if their daughter does ride. Mark was always fine with dragons.

Max

Max is one of the high class families who are connected with the chief through either old business or blood. They have plentiful fabrics and leathers and furs, and they're all in the best quality.

Max is probably one of the strongest young killers of dragons in the establishing universe, pressured to be that way from his family who are the cliche viking strongmen who want nothing more than to kill the biggest/toughest/strongest dragon and probably mount the head and take the scales and hide for personal use.

This is why I've decided to break the thing I said at the beginning. Max gets a light fury. Because Webby. And also I think he'd be so deeply cautious of trusting them that having something as ethereal as a light fury (who Webby was always going to be) would be a good reason to open his mind a little bit.

I think his dad deserves to die in his hatred for dragons and wouldn't survive the first installment. :)

Anyway that about covers the main cast of characters. I don't have much other thoughts right now considering it's taken. So long to write this post.

Quick disclaimer that it's been a few months since I've seen the movies and those are the only installments of the series that I've ever actually seen. The wiki helped me with the dragon types. I plan on watching my way through the show eventually.

I think it would have to either be stupid, stupid cartoon (Wednesday. Basically a what if Tyler died, and how would Donovan react?), or The Bonds of Lycanthropy (a Hamilton AU where he turns into a werewolf LOL)

I think a lot of my fics end pretty happy, but I think one of the happiest ones is Angels In Hell's Kitchen (Daredevil. About Matt Murdock having a good day for once).

Nope. And I never will 😅 makes me much too uncomfortable (I never read it either). Both because that's just how I am personally and for religious reasons. But I do love writing wholesome romance!

I do! I only posted one tho, and that was literally the first fic I ever wrote 😭 it was a crossover between Newsies and In the Heights, where Jack and Usnavi run away from New York. I do have several crossover WIPs though!! Including but not limited to: a Narnia/The Hobbit crossover, a Narnia/His Dark Materials crossover, a HTTYD/Wings of Fire crossover, and a Daredevil/Batman crossover!

I have!! But they aren't done yet 😭 but I'm writing them with @the-old-fashioned-girl! It's the Daredevil/Batman crossover, as well as a Hamilton fic!

Oh gosh, I don't want to ever think I'll NEVER finish a WIP, don't do that to me! I wanna say I'll finish all of the ones I want to finish eventually!!

I'm a pretty fast writer, I think. When I finally sit down and set my mind to it, I can easily get out a thousand+ words!

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it's really cool when done well!! I've done it for Lafayette in some Hamilton fics, and I want to try using Tagalog in another fic someday! I'm also using sign language for my Deaf!Raoul AU!

Thanks to Isle of Berk, I was able to recolor a texture for the Triple Stryke to make em into Strike!

Don't have the knowledge just yet on how to add more textures, but this is better for me anyways, enjoying my adventure with my fave in mc after sod's shutdown!

He will always be with me in one way or another, just like he has been before, we are just adventuring in a new, undiscovered land is all! (Other dragons are all at an Isle I made for my httyd world/oc au that I probably will share later on on my main blog)

Also the animations are really good, color variation is nice for every dragon and is very promising for the future of httyd in general.

6. Longest a drawing has taken to finish

I'm a slow artist, but I remember a piece I made for a httyd zine took forever because I went all in the background, probably around 10 hours. Or one of the fake screencaps for the TTS au, those were time consuming as well!

25. Best advice you've received this year or something new you learned about art

"If you want to improve at art in general, find a character to become totally obsessed with", it's more effective than you think!

I've rarely drawn plus sized characters before falling in love with Snow White from Red Shoes!! Or Aziraphale (I tend to make him chubbier than what he actually is. Sorry not sorry)
