Coeli's Picks: Brown, part 1
I may have to start doubling up on these so I don't run out of month! Once again, if more than one movie is pictured side by side, I'll list them left to right.
One Dress a Day Challenge
Anything Goes December
Game of Thrones / Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark
"I can't imagine that Sansa Stark's (first) wedding dress from Game of Thrones has been overlooked, but just in case:"
Tumblr media
Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell
Tumblr media
Pretty Woman (1990) / Julia Roberts as Vivian Ward
Howard's End / Tracey Ullman as Aunt Juley
"Tracey Ullman as Aunt Juley in the Starz remake of Howard's End looks great in brown."
Tumblr media
Chicago (2002) / Queen Latifah as Mama Morton
"Mama Morton (Queen Latifah)'s dress from the 'When You're Good to Mama' number in Chicago is sometimes described as gold, and certainly when strong light hits the beading it is, but it looks to me as if the base is brown. The headdress is definitely brown."
Tumblr media
Murdoch Mysteries (s12 e6) / Arwen Humphreys as Margaret Brackenreid
"A very silly and fun non-continuity Halloween episode."
Tumblr media
(s13 e1) Hélène Joy as Julia Ogden and Clare McConnell as Effie Newsome
Tumblr media
(s8 e12) Kari Matchett as Miss Heloise
with
Babylon 5 (s2 e19, "Divided Loyalties") / Andrea Thompson as Talia Winters
"On Babylon 5, Talia Winters was most often seen in a mustard-and-black suit, but she had a few others including this interesting brown one. I loved the costuming on that show. I'd be throwing more of it at you, but my favorite outfits seldom have a single dominant color."
Tumblr media
The Met Gala / Priyanka Chopra
"Sometimes high fashion meets costume, sweeps past it, and wraps all the way back around again. The Met Gala has a lot of that sort of thing."

Schuyler elopements
The following accounts are from Women of Colonial and Revolutionary Times: Catherine Schuyler (1897) by Mary Gay Humphreys.
Regarding the elopement of Angelica Schuyler and John Church:
“Carter and my eldest daughter ran off and were married on the twenty-third of July. Unacquainted with his family connections and situation in life the matter was exceedingly disagreeable and I signified it to them” [Philip Schuyler to William Duer, pg 191]
[One can read my speculation about why, (x), considering the above, AH was nevertheless acceptable to the Schuylers]
Regarding the elopement (that I don’t think was an elopement, just a surprising marriage due to SVR’s youth) of Margarita (Peggy) Schuyler and Stephen Van Rensselaer:
“Stephen’s precipitate marriage has been to me a source of surprise and indeed of regret. He certainly is too young to enter into a connection of this kind; the period of his life is an important crisis; it is the time to acquire Fame, or at least to prepare for its acquisition. It is the Time to engage in a busy life, to arouse the Facultys into action, to awake from a lithargic Inattention, which is generally the consequence of youthful pleasures, and make a figure upon the active Theatre. Instead of this our field has indulged the momentary impulse of youthful Passions, and has yielded to the dictates of Remorseful Fancy.” [Harrison Gray Otis to Killian Van Rensselaer, pg 195]
Regarding the elopement of Cornelia Schuyler and Washington Morton:
At the Morton home in New Jersey there had been a notable wedding, that of Eliza Morton to Josiah Quincy of Boston. The Rev. Samuel Smith of Princton College performed the ceremony before all the aristocracy of the time....Among the guests was Miss Cornelia Schuyler. The bride had a brother, Washington Morton. He made himself prominent as a lad during the British occupation by losing a darning needle which, being the only one in the neighborhood, accordingly had to be loaned from house to house. He was now one of the young bloods of the time. One of his recent enterprises had been a walk to Philadelphia on a wager. He was accompanied by various young men on horseback and in carriages. That night he gave them a dinner at Philadelphia, and was one of the liveliest of the company. He was of superb figure and very athletic. The admiration of Miss Schuyler and Mr. Morton was mutual and prompt. He followed the young lady to Albany and declared his attentions to her father. His walk had given him much distinction, but it was not the sort likely to win the approval of so strict a disciplinarian as General Schuyler, or the championship of so considerate a mother as his wife.
The young man’s suit was refused. “He has not taken that place which befitted a married man,” and the General, to make sure of his position, led the young man to the wharf and saw him aboard the New York sloop. Returning home he called his daughter into the library and told her what he had done. “My wishes will be respected? Promise me to have nothing to do with him by word or letter.”
“I cannot.”
“What! do you mean to disobey me?”
“I mean I cannot bind myself; I will not.”
The issue was made. What steps were taken to secure obedience do not appear. In time, however, the impatient lover found opportunity to send his love a letter, and one moonlit evening two muffled figures appeared under Miss Cornelia’s window. At a low whistle the window opened and a rope was thrown up. Attached to the rope was a rope ladder, which making fast like a veritable heroine of romance the bride descended. They were driven to the river, where a boat was waiting to take them across. On the other side was the coach-and-pair. They were then driven thirty miles across country to Stockbridge, where an old friend of the Morton family lived. It was Judge Theodore Sedgwick, not unknown  to General Schuyler in Congress and about the troublesome boundary commissions. The affair had gone too far. The judge sent for a neighboring minister and the runaways were duly married. So flagrant a breach of the parental authority was not to be hastily forgotten. Philip and Catherine Schuyler had had had various experiences in kind, but this transcended everything out of fiction, from which in fact it seems to have been carefully copied. It was some months before the young couple was pardoned, by the stern father at least, for the mother’s heart quickly responded to the happiness of her children, even though they had been so willful. As in the case of the other runaways, the youthful Mortons disappointed expectation, by becoming important householders and taking a prominent place in the social life of New York, where Washington Morion achieved some distinction at the bar. [pg 202-4].

My US Voting Record:
I made this with the help of wikipedia, google and posts like voting guides which I found online.
Note: I would have been a Monarchist during the Revolutionary War, but I'd probably still vote if living in America (No matter how displeased the revolution made me, I'd probably still always be willing to vote). But to show my dissatisfaction, every vote until 1824 is a protest vote:
1788: Nobody (I refuse to vote for George Washington). Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1792: Nobody (I refuse to vote for George Washington). Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1796: Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1800: Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1804: Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1808: Maybe a write in protest vote for King George III?
1812: Protest Vote for King George III (I can't vote for anyone after the War of 1812 got started)
1816: Protest Vote for King George III (again, I don't know if I'd be able to forgive anyone after the War of 1812)
1820: Protest Vote for King George IV (I can't support Monroe after he helped fight 1812 against Canada and the British).
1824: Henry Clay/Nathan Sanford
1824 Contingent: John Quincy Adams
1828: John Quincy Adams/Richard Rush
1832: Henry Clay/John Sergeant
1836: Daniel Webster/Francis Granger or William Henry Harrison/Francis Granger
1840: William Henry Harrison/John Tyler
1844: Henry Clay/Theodore Frelinghuysen
1848: Martin Van Buren/Charles F. Adams

1856: John C. Frémont/William L. Dayton
1860: Abraham Lincoln/Hannibal Hamlin

1904: Eugene V. Debs/Benjamin Hanford
1908: William Jennings Bryan/John Kern
1912: Eugene V. Debs/Emil Seidel
1916: Allan L. Benson/George R. Kirkpatrick
1920: Eugene V. Debs/Seymour Stedman
1924: Robert M. LaFollette/Burton K. Wheeler
1928: Al Smith/Joseph T. Robinson (although Herbert Hoover and Charles Curtis aren't bad either. I might've been a prohibitionist then, considering I hate the taste of alcohol. But Smith opposed lynching. So he gets my vote).
1932: Norman Thomas/James H. Maurer
1936: Norman Thomas/George A. Nelson
1940: Norman Thomas/Maynard Krueger
1944: Norman Thomas/Darlington Hoopes
1948: Henry A. Wallace/Glen H. Taylor
1952: Adlai Stevenson II/John Sparkman
1956: Adlai Stevenson II/Estes Kefauver
1960: Richard Nixon/Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. (Solely because I hate JFK)
1964: Lyndon B. Johnson/Hubert Humphrey
1968: Hubert Humphrey/Edmund Muskie
1972: George McGovern/Sargent Shriver (although I still really like Thomas Eagleton as VP)
1976: Gerald Ford/Bob Dole
1980: Jimmy Carter/Walter Mondale
1984: Walter Mondale/Geraldine Ferraro
1988: Willa Kenoyer/Ron Ehrenreich (I hear Michael Dukakis went to high school with the guy who founded the Judge Rotenberg Centre, which is a terrible place. So I can't vote for Dukakis. Can't take a chance on him with that history).
1992: Ross Perot/James Stockdale
1996: Ross Perot/Pat Choate
2000: Ralph Nader/Winona Laduke
2004: Ralph Nader/Peter Camejo
2008: Ralph Nader/Matt Gonzalez
2012: Barack Obama/Joe Biden (Beginning in 2012, I'd probably start voting for Democrats more often because I felt I had no choice. But I'm still a bit unhappy with them. Haven't been since 1988 or 1992).
2016: Gloria La Riva/Eugene Puryear
2020: Joe Biden/Kamala Harris (My heart says Howie Hawkins/Angela Walker, however).

CORE Pro #118 Breaking Training: The Risky Raffle 08/05/23 West Scranton Little League Carnival - Scranton, Pennsylvania Attendance: 461
- Throughout the evening CORE legends were joined by members of the local little league team to draw names from a hopper. First selections were made by "Mean" Mark Mest and a shortstop named Paxton.
Match #1
Tumblr media
Risky Raffle Titus Alexander and Flamita vs. Magnum CK and Brogan Finlay
- The first time team of Titus Alexander and Flamita worked together with surprising aplomb. Brogan Finlay climbed to the top rope looking for an elbow drop on Flamita, but Titus Alexander caught him with a Michinoku Driver off the top rope. Alexander dropkicked Magnum CK off the apron as Flamita hit a 450 Splash on Finlay and got the win. Winners: Titus Alexander and Flamita
- As the wrestlers made their way to the back, Shane Hagadorn drew the first name and brought out Shaw Mason. On his way to the ring, Shaw exchanged a glance with Brogan Finlay and said something about Finlay's defeat. Finlay retrieved a chair from the audience and attacked Mason from behind. Finlay continued to strike Mason with the chair, bloodying him in the process. As CORE officials escorted Finlay to the back, Hagadorn drew the name of Mason's partner, Francesco Akira, who helped Shaw to the ring.
Match #2
Tumblr media
Risky Raffle Shaw Mason and Francesco Akira vs. Ricky Morton and Vincent Nothing
- Morton and Nothing went to work on the already bloody Shaw Mason. Ricky Morton had Mason in position for the Canadian Destroyer, but Francesco Akira saved his partner with a reverse rana on Morton. Francesco cut Nothing off as Shaw Mason made the cover. Winners: Shaw Mason and Francesco Akira
- As they were in the process of selecting the next team, Shaw Mason asked Ace Darling and a catcher named Mason for the microphone. Mason said that if Brogan likes to attack people with international objects, how about they make their match next week on The Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour a Weapons Wild Match?
Match #3
Tumblr media
Risky Raffle Jake Something and Derek Dillinger vs. Fuego Del Sol and Lio Rush
- Jake Something whipped Fuego Del Sol into the ropes and went for the black hole slam, but Fuego countered into a tornado DDT. Before Fuego could go for the pin, Derek Dillinger landed a running elbow strike to the back of Fuego's head. But Dillinger turned around into a springboard stunner from the bottom rope by Lio Rush and was rolled up for a flash pin. Winners: Fuego Del Sol and Lio Rush
- After first selecting Hunter Holdcraft's name, Sal Sincere drew Queen Aminata. Raychell Rose tried to accompany Aminata to the ring, but was stopped by CORE officials as Aminata is not an approved client for Rose to manage as she works toward obtaining her license. An outfielder named Humphrey drew Invictus Khash and Big Dan Champion, our first previously established tag team of the evening.
Match #4
Tumblr media
Risky Raffle Hunter Holdcraft and Queen Aminata vs. Invictus Khash and Big Dan Champion
- Hunter Holdcraft tried for a gutwrench suplex on Big Dan Champion, but Big Dan countered with a Doctor Bomb. Aminata considered making the save, but seeing Khash charging at her thought better of it and jumped off the apron and headed to the dressing room. Winners: Invictus Khash and Big Dan Champion
- The Patriot drew the names of Kenzie Paige and Joshua Bishop. And despite there being only two names left in the hopper, a third baseman named Skywalker drew them anyway.
Match #5
Tumblr media
Risky Raffle Kenzie Paige and Joshua Bishop vs. Tim Bosby and Giant Baba Yaga
- Joshua Bishop had Tim Bosby up for a Bishop Bomb, but Giant Baba Yaga pulled Bosby off his shoulders by the leg. Bishop turned around into a big Baba boot and fell through the ropes. Kenzie Paige ran toward Baba but was caught with a running neckbreaker and pinned. Winners: Tim Bosby and Giant Baba Yaga
Match #6
Tumblr media
Trench Trial Series - Match 3 Trench vs. Sonny Kiss
- Trench climbed to the second rope to attempt a Vader Bomb, but Sonny Kiss was playing possum and trapped Trench's head under the top turnbuckle before connecting with an axe kick. Trench fell to the mat and struggled back to his feet as Sonny climbed to the top and connected with the Molly Go Round and pinfall. Winner: Sonny Kiss
- After the match Trench looked to Sonny Kiss for approval, but Sonny was non-committal to Trench's future in the TrustBusters Reserve.
Match #7
Tumblr media
Trios Kingdom 2023 Qualifying Match Kerry Morton, Starboy Charlie, and Marcus Mathers vs. Young Dumb N Broke (Charlie Tiger, Ellis Taylor, and Griffin McCoy)
- Griffin McCoy went for a springboard enzuigiri on Starboy Charlie, but Marcus Mathers tripped McCoy up and hit a lungblower. Starboy Charlie dove out of the ring with a tope on Ellis Taylor. Charlie Tiger charged at Kerry Morton for the spear but was instead caught by a high knee lift from Morton. Kerry hooked Tiger in a front facelock and hit the Showstopper to earn a place in Trios Kingdom 2023. Winners: Kerry Morton, Starboy Charlie, and Marcus Mathers
Match #8
Tumblr media
Risky Royal - 10 Man Over The Top Battle Royal
- folkstyle worked together to try and dump Giant Baba Yaga, but a Baba chop split Shaw Mason's cut back open. Invictus Khash and Big Dan Champion saw an opening and they instead teamed up to dump Giant Baba Yaga to the floor. Giant Baba Yaga has been eliminated.
- Fuego Del Sol was seated on the top turnbuckle and had Francesco Akira in position for the tornado DDT, but Lio Rush vaulted off Francesco's back and hit a dropkick on Fuego that sent him to the outside. Fuego Del Sol has been eliminated.
- Tim Bosby went for his ripcord lariat on Khash, but Khash ducked the line and countered into a Fujiwara armbar. Shaw Mason broke up the hold but the blood dripping down his face obstructed his peripheral vision and Titus Alexander landed a superkick flush to the side of Mason's head and tossed him over the top rope. Shaw Mason has been eliminated.
- Khash and Big Dan worked together to hoist Lio Rush up for a tandem gorilla press slam and launched him from the ring to the ground. Lio Rush has been eliminated.
- Tim Bosby tried to leapfrog over Titus Alexander, but Titus caught Bosby on his shoulders in waterwheel slam position, but instead back body dropped Bosby over the ropes and to ringside. Tim Bosby has been eliminated.
- Francesco Akira went for the shiranui on Flamita, but Invictus Khash was behind them and caught Akira in position for a running powerslam. Khash tried to lawndart Francesco over the top, but Akira slipped off his shoulders and dropkicked Khash from behind and sent him toppling over the ropes. Invictus Khash has been eliminated.
- Big Dan lifted Flamita up for a gorilla press slam, but Flamita countered with an armdrag. Titus Alexander pulled down the top rope and an off balance Big Dan teetered over the top and to the outside. Big Dan Champion has been eliminated.
- Francesco Akira went for the running double knee strike to Flamita, but Flamita showed off impressive strength and caught Akira. Francesco was resourceful though and countered into a monkey flip which sent Flamita to the floor. Flamita has been eliminated.
- Titus Alexander planted Francesco Akira with a Michinoku Driver and picked him up off the mat. Titus tossed Francesco over the top rope but Akira hung on. Francesco went to skin the cat but mid-rotation was met with a dropkick from Titus which sent Francesco crashing to the ground. Francesco Akira has been eliminated. Winner: Titus Alexander

Victoria Regina: Spring (1.1, Granada, 1964)
"I don't know what to think of it."
"It, meaning what?"
"Female. On the throne. King would have been so much better."
"Oh, I don't know, my lord: heirs male of the last generation have not been a conspicuous success."
"No English king has been a conspicuous success since Edward I."
"Yet the monarchy has gone on."
"Yes. And it's gone off."

5, 14, 18 und 39 für Morton und Cotta pls? ✨
~ sehr-wohl-die-herrschaften
Hey! Thank you!
[ship asks]
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes?
I'd say no on the nicknames and pet names front, partly because I think it'd be really funny if they just kept adressing each other as "Cotta" and "Morton" and everyone around them is like "???? I thought you were dating????". (Also, I don't like pet names.) Definitely in-jokes tho, probably at least a handful referencing Justus, Peter and Bob.
14. Anything they both dread?
They may joke about that, but they both really dread the day the boys get themselves seriously injured. On a less dramatic scale, they both reasonably enjoy cooking (Cotta more than Morton tho, probably) but doing the dishes? Not so much.
18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other?
Okay, this is 100% based on personal feelings, but they both need a lot of alone time actually. Like, just a whole day or two not interacting with anyone (except maybe a cashier at the supermarket or something), having time to themself. But it's not framed as "taking a break", because it's just normal routine to them, not seeing each other for a few days, and not just if they have to work. Dates usually are pretty... quiet, unspectacular things, like going to a bar or a café, spending an evening on the couch, watching some movie (they both like Humphrey Bogart, and have Opinions on Bond, though not always the same) or just listening to music.
39. Who initiated the relationship? Who kissed who first?  When did they realize they were in love?
Okay, so, my favourite headcanon is, that they just meet in a bar or something by accident, talk all evening, realize they really like each other, do it a few more times, and Cotta spends most of the time really careful not to presume anything and not to overstep any boundaries, because Morton is generally somewhat formal and reserved, until Morton has had enough of Cotta not getting any of his hints and kisses him. And realizing they're in love is probably a really soft, quiet moment - that they have independently of each other - like, Cotta is in the kitchen in pyjama pants and making breakfast while singing along to the radio, and Morton stands in the door and is just like... yeah, that one. And Cotta probably has that moment when he sees Morton with the boys, in his usual stiff chaffeur manner, until the boys turn their backs to him to make some important decision or other, and Morton looks at them with a fond smile.

what Classic Film(TM) you should watch based on who your fave Danganronpa 1/2 character is
disclaimer - obviously as a film dude i’m gonna say you should watch all of these. but maybe watch the one correlating to your fave first!
Makoto: 12 Angry Men (1957, dir. Sidney Lumet) - strong themes of justice, it’s about a jury trying to determine a man’s guilt. it’s basically what Makoto does for the entire game. you’ll also like it if you’re a fan of Phoenix Wright.
Sayaka: A Star is Born (1954, dir. George Cukor) - it’s all about a girl’s rise to fame and how her relationships change with that. there’s three versions of this film, most recently with Lady Gaga.
Mukuro: Vertigo (1958, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - themes of murder and hiding your identity, losing yourself to a cause.
Leon: Animal House (1978, dir. John Landis) - a comedy about a fraternity. it’s THE college frat movie and i think Leon would enjoy it a lot.
Chihiro: WarGames (1983, dir. John Badham) - two teenagers might have accidentally started a world war during the cold war by trying to play computer games...fitting for the series, no?
Mondo: On the Waterfront (1954, dir. Elia Kazan) - struggling to do the right thing and being sort of frustrated about your circumstances as they pertain to class and missed opportunities. being dragged into bad situations by family. also Marlon Brando is a bicon and very hot in this movie.
Taka: Rebel Without a Cause (1955, dir. Nicholas Ray) - a lot of turbulent shit happens to three teenagers over the course of 24 hours. one of - if not the first canonically gay teenager on film. i think we all know by now that James Dean was mlm, but so were the director and Sal Mineo. big bi polyam vibes; if you like chishimondo as a ship you’ll probably like this film too.
Hifumi: Akira (1988, dir. Katsuhiro Otomo) - had a hard time figuring out what to put for Hifumi, but overall i think if nothing else he’d appreciate how impressive the animation was (and honestly, still is) along with the fact that the mangaka was also the director. so although there’s a lot cut out (the manga had not finished before the film came out), it’s still roughly the same plot as the manga.
Celes: Dracula (1931, dir. Tod Browning) - probably the most iconic iteration of Bram Stoker’s novel, this is the one staring Bela Lugosi. not terribly true to the novel from what i remember, but it’s peak aesthetic and exactly the kind of thing she’d enjoy.
Sakura: Rashomon (1950, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - finally getting onto films i haven’t actually seen but that are on my list. sakura’s another person i had a hard time deciding on a film for, but the “several characters telling different accounts of the same plot” reminded me a bit of her case in the game.
Hina: West Side Story (1961, dir. Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins) - admittedly i had a different film in mind for her to start with, but Maria’s final monologue fits with Hina’s motivations during Sakura’s case.
Toko: Gone With the Wind (1939, dir. Victor Fleming) - another one i haven’t actually watched yet, but it’s based on a famous novel, described as “epic historical romance.” i think that vibes with Toko pretty well.
Byakuya: Citizen Kane (1941, dir. Orson Welles) - if you’re really interested in film, you’re gonna be made to watch this sooner or later. famous for being the “best film ever made”, it’s more or less about newspaper moguls like William Randolph Hearst - who is also the main reason why this film is famous at all. it’s not exactly a flattering depiction of those kinds of people and boy, did that ever piss Hearst off. if he hadn’t made such a big deal trying to keep Citizen Kane from seeing the light of day, something much better might have made it to the top spot.
Hiro: The Music Man (1962, dir. Morton DaCosta) - based on the Broadway musical of the same name, a “travelling salesman” (read: con artist) starts to work his latest con on a gullible small town, but actually starts liking the people in it.
Kyoko: The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - not to be confused with the other Hitchcock film from the 30s also titled The Man Who Knew Too Much. this is the one with James Stewart and Doris Day. it’s a highly suspenseful film that gave us the song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)”.
Junko: Gaslight (1944, dir. George Cukor) - ever heard the term “gaslighting”? this is where it comes from! based on a play in which a woman’s husband psychologically tortures her into believing she is going insane.
Monokuma: Duck Soup (1933, dir. Leo McCarey) - all Marx Brothers films are as utterly silly (and sometimes as incomprehensible) as one of Monokuma’s MonoTheatres. i watched about half of Duck Soup and had to stop because it was finals week and i was supposed to be doing something other than losing my shit.
Hajime: It’s a Wonderful Life (1946, dir. Frank Capra) - you probably already know this film. if you’re Christian you know it as That Film Your Parents Watch Every Year On Dec 24th Around Midnight. if you have seasonal depression, don’t watch it then; warning for suicidal ideation. it’s supposed to be uplifting. your mileage may vary on that one.
Impostor: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962, dir. Robert Mulligan) - i don’t have a good reason to pair these two up other than gut feeling. as far as film adaptations of books go, it’s pretty damn good, and Atticus Finch is the original DILF. themes of childhood innocence and racism.
Teruteru: Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961, dir. Blake Edwards) - apparently much different from the novella on which it is based, but i think Teruteru would really dig the aesthetic and romantic vibes of the film. Holly Golightly is probably the original Manic Pixie Dream Girl.
Mahiru: Rear Window (1954, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - like It’s a Wonderful Life, chances are good you know this film - or at least, you’ve seen its plot recycled a hell of a lot. a professional photographer recovering from a broken leg thinks he witnesses a murder take place and is determined to get to the truth.
Peko: Seven Samurai (1954, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - another one on my to-watch list, but it’s oft referenced and remade in film. a village hires seven ronin to protect them from bandits who will return to steal their crops.
Hiyoko: East of Eden (1955, dir. Elia Kazan) - i’ll be honest here, i didn’t really know what to put for Hiyoko because i’m not sure i understand much about her, but i seem to remember her family playing a pretty big role in her being Like That and for “shitty family” the first two things to come to mind were this and Giant. and unless you like 3-hour long movies about the state of Texas, i’m not about to recommend you watch Giant.
Ibuki: A Night at the Opera (1935, dir. Sam Wood) - another Marx Bros film in which they help a girl both to be with her lover and to achieve her dreams of stardom as an opera singer. the kind of silly, manic thing i think Ibuki would like.
Mikan: The Shining (1980, dir. Stanley Kubrick) - i hate hate hate putting this on here, but since this is for film and not books i couldn’t exactly state to read the book. the book is about the cycle of abuse. the movie is more about... a trapped man going crazy in a spooky hotel.
Nekomaru: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963, dir. Stanley Kramer) - comedy about five groups of people racing to get to a large sum of money buried by a recently escaped convict they stopped to help out after his car crash. it’s a comedy, and just kinda seemed like Nekomaru’s thing.
Gundham: The Seventh Seal (1957, dir. Ingmar Bergman) - i watched this in like 10th grade and all i really remember is a man playing chess with Death and if that doesn’t say Gundham Tanaka to you, i don’t know what does.
Nagito: North by Northwest (1959, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - i don’t really have a reason for this one either but it’s a spy film and i think komaeda could get behind that kind of intrigue.
Chiaki: Metropolis (1927, dir. Fritz Lang) - not to be confused with the anime, this is a 1927 German expressionist film that seems to be about socialism and unionization. it’s also famous for its (purposeful) use of the Male Gaze and being one of the first sci-fi films ever made. be warned: it is a silent film.
Sonia: Strangers on a Train (1951, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - another one of those films you’ll get told to watch if you’re interested in the queer history of film, i was gonna put something else but honestly the character of Barbara kinda reminded me of Sonia. a famous tennis player meets a man on a train who attempts to plan a double-murder with him.
Akane: My Fair Lady (1964, dir. George Cukor) - i was trying so hard not to double up on the post about musicals, but Akane really does have Eliza Doolittle vibes. they’re both feral and nothing would be able to really domesticate them. for whatever it’s worth, this film and the musical on which it is based is itself based on the play Pygmalion, in which your typical rich cishet white dude bets he can turn any street urchin into a real lady because he’s just that good. you might know the plot better as Pretty Woman.
Kazuichi: A Streetcar Named Desire (1951, dir. Elia Kazan) - i don’t really have a good excuse for this one, either; i haven’t even watched it yet (although i have read the play on which it is based). all i’m gonna say is i want Souda to have his gay awakening via Marlon Brando, as we all do.
Fuyuhiko: Casablanca (1942, dir. Michael Curtiz) - despite his love and adoration for Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart decides fighting Nazis is more important. i think Fuyuhiko would like the aesthetic, and the film. don’t let him know but i think he’d probably cry watching it.
Usami: To Sir, With Love (1967, dir. James Clavell) - issues of race and class intersecting in a film about a teacher working with inner city students. i was going to put Singin’ in the Rain here, because it’s what Usami would want people to watch...but i think this better fits the effect she wants to have as a being.

bit of an odd question... do you know much about those astrological predictions HVII was given for new years 1503 I think it was? and also HVIII's original natal chart + analysis if that even exists... I have very niche interests haha
Hello, anon! I do have information about that unfortunate prediction. As always, I talk more about the topic under the cut! 🕊️🕊️
First of all, for a bit of context, it wasn’t at all the first reading Henry VII received during his reign. England during the late middle ages has been described as an ‘astrological backwater’, though the astrological treaties dedicated to Humphrey Duke of Gloucester might have been an exceptional example of royal patronage. Most studies about astrology at that time were carried out in universities as astrology in itself is (and was) not a type of religion. There was, however, a need to demonstrate both theological orthodoxy and respect for ecclesiastical authority when conducting those studies, as we can see by the show trials of Henry IV’s queen, Joan of Navarre, in 1419 and of Eleanor Cobham, Humphrey’s wife, in 1441 (both women accused to use astrological predictions to act against their kings). As Henry VII came to the throne, though, astrology took a prominent cultural place at the king’s court as he endeavoured to follow wider European trends in the development of art and science.
Henry VII was the first English monarch to employ an official court astrologer, the Italian physician William Parron of Piacenza. Besides Parron, there were other two prominent astrology enthusiasts at his court: Richard Fitzjames and Lewis Caerlon (who served as physician to both Henry VII and his consort Elizabeth of York). As you can see in this illustration here, in matters of astrology, it has been suggested that Henry was acting with full support of the state and church — the archbishop in the figure, most likely John Morton (then Archbishop of Canterbury), lends his sanction of the event by pointing to the stars outside the palace — in fact, something that is not so often commented is the largely successful foreign diplomacy of his reign which also included the full backing of Pope Innocent VIII (something I might expand later on in another post). The manuscript in question included treaties on astronomy, astrology, geomancy, and prophecy, so you can see how vast that area of study was.
Parron came to England in the 1480s and made a number of successful astrological predictions. He called himself a scholar, physician, and professor of astrology. From 1496 to 1503 he dedicated a series of astrological works to Henry VII, including the Libellus de astrorum succincte vi fatali (Concerning the Deadly Power of the Encircling Stars) in 1499. There is one payment of £1 to ‘Master William Paronus, an astronymyre’ from Henry’s privy purse accounts on 6 March 1499 which might have been a payment for the writing of this work (it would only be completed in October of that year) or it might have concerned some prophecy related to the birth of Prince Edmund since the prince had been born in that same year, on the 21st of February.
William Parron made successful predictions about the fortunes of Henry VII’s allies, including King Louis of France and King Ferdinand of Aragon, and in 1500, he mentioned “outstanding prospects for the negotiations for a marriage with the latter.” Nevertheless, Parron failed to predict Prince Arthur’s demise: his 1502 commentary on the prince simply said that ‘‘The illustrious Arthur, Prince of Wales will be safe [and] triumphant.’’ After this relative blunder, innocuous as it was, Parron prepared another treatise, the Liber de optimo fato nobilissimi domini Henrici Eboraci ducis, concerning the excellent fortune of Henry Duke of York and his parents, in two presentation copies that were decorated lavishly in the Burgundian style as you can see below (BL Royal MS 12 B VI, British Library):
Tumblr media
As you may know, Parron was not fortunate in the predictions for the length of the life of Henry VII and his queen Elizabeth of York. He had made those predictions based on the natal charts of the king, the queen and of their son Henry (as well on the position of the stars during the king’s coronation). Parron argued that all the astrological indicators pointed to Henry VII living for a hundred years, while Elizabeth of York would live to be eighty, perhaps ninety years old. The queen died, 37-years-old, within months of this prediction and Parron understandably left Henry’s court to seek patronage elsewhere. During his own lifetime a fellow astrologer favoured in the French court by King Charles VIII, Simon de Phares, had been tried by an ecclesiastical court at the University of Paris on accusations of charlatanism. His extensive library of astrological books was confiscated and no one knows exactly what happened to him after 1499. Even with all those humanist trends sweeping Europe, it was still dangerous to be an astrologer and fail at your job.
About Henry VIII’s original natal chart reading, you might be referring to this one? I think it was contained in the Liber optimus mentioned above but as I don’t have a copy of Lipscomb & Betteridge’s work I can’t check the source (@alicehoffmans might help you with that). As you can see, even today there are several different lines of astrology and I’m not sure which approach they used to compose that predictive chart reading, which is a different analysis than simply looking at someone’s natal chart to analyse personality. If you’re interested in that, though, I’ve done a simple natal chart reading of Henry VIII and his parents here. I’ve always had the intention to add more depth to it but you know, I keep forgetting 🌹x
