It's very funny the more LOTR type shit I have in my immediate circle bc like. Truly. I don't care for the series. I'm slated for an extended edition, strap-me-to-the-couch, GRONDGRONDGRONDGROND-type re-watch w my friends and I honestly hope I like it this time lmao....i haven't seen LOTR in like? 14 years?? Idk I like gimli I think? Man that'd be a good name for a guinea pig. We almost named Pippin Smeagol/Gollum but you gotta earn that name. Her full title is Pippin the Peepin Peepee Baby. Her signature move is filling your palm with a small puddle of pee. Did it within 3 seconds of the vet googoogagaing at her. Maybe she should be smeagol. Anyway my LOTR knowledge is peripheral and purely for comedy - - look at my little girlies hairy hobbit feet. Look at Frodo's bright pink toes.

My Top 10 (actually 9) Dramione Fic Reccemmendations:
I am not a terribly avid reader of angst-filled fics (sorry, Manacled fans). This list will be mostly romcom / fluffy, major slow burns, and Draco POV. I have included a few more serious fics, but they are just so well written / interesting, that they made my list. Without further ado, and in no particular order, my Top 9 Dramione Fics:
1. To one one's surprise, and not being overhyped at all (I'm completely serious), is Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love. This one needs no description due to its popularity, so I will only add to the hype. I have always been a fan of adventure-romance (e.g. Romancing the Stone, Princess Bride, Stardust, Love and Monsters, Shrek, A Knight's Tale, and, not to get repetitive, The Lost City), but this was the first fanfiction I read with such dedication to an interesting, funny, and, at times, suspenseful story. I also love seeing Draco fall first and his unreliable narration in Hermione's feelings for him. I adore the characterization of / relationships between characters (not just Draco and Hermione) as well as the way the author develops the existing magic system. It is definitely a slow burn with misunderstandings. I'm not a big fan of misunderstandings after they are together because I think it's lasy, and I will stop reading it. In this fic, however, the author makes sure that the 'will they won't they' isn't over done.
2. A Cosmology of Blacks, Malfoys, and Assorted Individuals. This one is in process, but updates are consistent, and I am hooked. Draco POV only. Not only does this fic have the best name, it also includes many anecdotes of Black history (particularly focused on Narcissa, Andromeda, and Bellatrix) while also tying in a romance plot. The story begins with Andromeda confronting Narcissa, and the Black family to be reunited. Draco meets Hermione again for the first time post-graduation, but something is wrong with Hermione's magic. They slowly become friends and Draco develops feelings. This one is on the angsty side, but it's nothing dark or war-based. It is decidedly cosy. I absolutely love any fic that casts a parallel between Andromeda and Ted and Draco and Hermione (I also love supportive Harry who compares them to his parents).
3. The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy. This is another popular one that deserves the hype. This one was outside my comfort zone as it is fairly heavy on the angst. BUT I think it is a really imaginative retelling of DH. If you are unfamiliar, the author rewrites the end of HBP wherein Draco accepts Dumbledore's offer of help. He is then forced to accept the protection of people who hate him and whom he hates. This is a true Enemies to Friends to Lovers story. It has a mixed POV. This story is full of mystery, suspense, plot twists, romance, and angst. This is another one that explores the magic system in an interesting way.
4. It Happened in Egypt is another romcom adventure fic. It is funny, mysterious, and action-packed. In this story, Hermione is in Egypt on a 'holiday' and runs into Draco who is drunk and has been robbed (no wallet or wand). As the author says, this fic is a love story to the Nile and Egyptian Mythology. Great for history lovers. And while this story is a relatively quick burn, there is still a major chunk of mutual pining.
5. Scary Partner Privilege is another in progress piece, but it is so creative. It is Draco POV. He and Hermione (a no-nonsense-to-the-point-of-rudeness cop) are paired as elite aurors. Each chapter is a different case like in Brooklyn 99 or other cop shows with the overall plot of their tumble into romance. This Hermione is a complete BAMF, and Draco is a darling.
6. Distance is a split POV fic. Hermione is a new Unspeakable and Draco is an auror who hasn't been given a real case. They end up teaming up to investigate a mysterious magical figurine. Another adventure fic set in the Indus Valley. Such a fun concept. Another one that is a good read for history lovers.
7. Lavender Scones and Second Chances is the final in progress story I have on this list. This story is mostly here for vibes (cosy) because the research that brought them together is more periphery than anything. But it is still a sweet story that I am excited to watch develop.
8. Love and Other Historical Accidents is Jane Austen meets Harry Potter. Hermione and Draco get sent back to the late Georgian / early Regency period in magical Wiltshire. Lots of classic Austen tropes and plot lines. It is an established dynamic between them, and Draco is already in love with Hermione.
9. Soft As It Began is a unique story wherein Harry vanished the day after the Battle of Hogwarts. Almost 5 years later, Hermione, with help from Draco (they are investigative journalists), travels around Europe looking for him. This story plays with the story of The Three Brothers and the Deathly Hallows. I just love all the characterizations in this fic.

What I really struggle with in HP is JKR's shallow neoliberal world-building, and how it forces characters to navigate it quite awkwardly. As a big fan of the werewolf lore, I hate what she did there. I want to accept some of the self hatred and oversimplification of the society as complexities of the characters, but some of it also just feels like bad writing. Of course I am a bit of a Lupin stan and I'll do some gymnastics to try to make him a better man/werewolf than he'd ever be (I like to picture him as kind of a Union rep), but I don't know, I just really feel like canon is lacking. Am I just not a great reader?
no, i don't think you're a bad reader, anon.
when it comes to worldbuilding, jkr is certainly no tolkien - a lot of the inconsistencies in canon [i.e. why dumbledore flies to the ministry in philosopher's stone] come from her not having the world fully mapped out prior to writing, and, while this isn't as much of an issue as the fandom makes out [lots of authors adapt their worldbuilding as they go along!], it's definitely exacerbated by the fact that she has a tendency to claim certain inconsistencies were intentional.
the series' politics are also clearly incredibly neoliberal. and part of this [such as the fact that the order is defending the "sensible" status quo] is obviously a bleed-through from jkr's worldview, and i think it's legitimate to acknowledge and criticise that and how it manifests itself in the doylist text.
nonetheless, i think it is worth saying that the fandom has a tendency to criticise aspects of the text which ought instead to be understood as intentional spaces we can devote our energy to filling in. the genre conventions of the series require it to become an uncomplicated good-versus-evil trajectory which ends with all being well - and i do think that, when we're criticising jkr's writing, it's important to acknowledge that the ending of the series feels unsatisfactory because it does these conventions properly, rather than in spite of that fact. similarly, the reason that apparently key aspects of wizarding society [law, politics, etc.] don't get discussed in detail is because they're not the series' focus - i've mentioned elsewhere that i'm obsessed with the concept of wizarding medicine, and that i find the way this is presented in the series really shallow, but i recognise that this is because medicine isn't something the series wants to focus on. order of the phoenix is too long as it is - we don't need 200 more pages of detailed descriptions of how healers learn their craft...
and so i think it's fun for us to work in our own writing to make the worldbuilding feel a bit more cohesive.
the easiest way i've found to square this circle with the watsonian text is to recognise that harry is a partial narrator. he's someone with an incredibly self-serving, black-and-white moral code; he's incredibly privileged within wizarding society and comparatively privileged within muggle society [by which i don't mean that he isn't neglected by the dursleys, but he's also canonically white, able-bodied, cisgender, a native english speaker, well-educated, raised in a middle-class household and so on] and, therefore, never has to actually think about the politics and structure of wizarding society; and he's also a teenage boy, which explains him not being particularly observant or politically aware.
[the best example of this is, of course, that he doesn't give a shit about sirius' treatment of kreacher - because he likes sirius - and he doesn't consider his own mastery over kreacher to be a moral abomination - because he's shown to not really understand the broader social impact of slavery - but he detests the malfoys' treatment of dobby entirely and only because he dislikes the malfoys.]
his attitude towards lupin - and his attitude towards werewolves more generally - can be made sense of through this, i think. harry doesn't care about the broader state-sanctioned oppression of werewolves because it doesn't impact him, he cares about lupin's experience because it does; harry doesn't notice the imperialist overtones to lupin's self-presentation [that is, that he bears "the unmistakable signs of having tried to live among wizards"] and considers lupin's embrace of "civilisation" to be a good thing [in comparison to werewolves like greyback, who reject it] because it's what he personally considers legitimate; harry focuses on specific aspects of lupin's character because he's not a omniscient perspective - he's a [canonically short-sighted] teenage boy.

How James Potter's character discourse could have been easily solved by JKR
Now, I love redemption arcs. While I would probably never get with a guy in real life who hurt me in the past, I love seeing how a guy can atone and build a loving relationship with a girl who was hurt by him in the past and how the girl came to forgive him. I love seeing male characters become better men. Bonus if the men had to grovel to prove themselves hah.
So in theory, I should like James Potter and Jily. However, I don't. I used to like James when I first got into HP but the fan discourse really soured me on him, especially the victim blaming and glorification of bullying. I also did not like how James' bad side was usually swept under the rug in the fics I read.
The main problem with James Potter is the show vs tell with his redemption. On screen/on page, we see his awful moments first-hand or see his problematic behaviour justified or downplayed by the narrative. However, we only hear about his good moments second-hand. That's why James discourse is circular and tiring.
To make it worse, we hear about his good moments in arguably not objective contexts. Of course, Remus and Sirius will big up their mate to his son when he expresses doubt. Of course, Minerva and Dumbledore will speak highly of someone from their own house who was a good athlete and headboy. Of course, people usually don't speak ill of the dead - especially loving parents who died as martyrs protecting their son. Of course Snape can't be trusted because he is a mean, nasty teacher. So when we hear these things about James, there's always that lingering doubt about whether the claims are completely true.
Moreover, Sirius and Remus never tell us how James redeemed himself. Just that he deflated his head...what the hell does that mean?? Did James apologize or express regret about hurting people? I need more details.
Another problem is that James died young so we never got to really see him as a mature adult. So to estimate his behaviour, we have to look at his friends (birds of a feather flock together) but Sirius and Remus are...questionable. Still love you Sirius! Best marauder hands down buddy! I love your family :)
So! How could JKR fix this if she wanted to? Simple. Have Sirius or Remus show Harry a pensive memory of James post SWM.
It always bothered me how little Harry seemed to care about his parents. Remus and Sirius were right there - why not ask about all the marauder adventures? Hagrid composed that album for him in book 1 from people who were supposedly friends with the Potters - why not reach out to them? Harry comes to you accusing James of tricking Lily into being with him...why not help him out by showing James as a good boyfriend and person? Why not show him a pensieve memory of how he proved himself to Lily? Or a memory of James being a just headboy? I would have loved to see some heartwarming James moments. It would not erase what he did to Snape but at least James would be better portrayed as a good person who just hated that nobody Slytherin out of immaturity.
Anyway, I think how James was written makes for a richer narrative but a lot could have been solved in fandom if JKR showed us some good James moments free of bias. James Potter is a character I am partially primed to like! I just needed to see how he changed. Being a good parent and husband is not enough. Evil characters can be good family men too so that means nothing. Jily is not good enough evidence that James was a changed man.

your view on riddledore, especially when compared to grindledore and Tom/Grindelwald?
also what would be your thoughts on harrydore (provided it is a same age au or there is time travel involved)?
I like all three of them, in whatever combination!
Riddledore has been so, so much fun to explore lately. For me, Voldemort and Dumbledore are the only 'equals' in the HP books. I see the entire war as being between them, while the Order, Death Eaters, Ministry etc serving as foot soldiers. Without Voldemort or Dumbledore, we wouldn't have canon events. They are the catalysts of the entire thing. I am also of the opinion that Dumbledore won the war, because he was the one to have plotted the entire Deathly Hallows going to Harry thing. Of course, there was some typical Harry luck sprinkled in there, but yes, I credit Dumbledore with that victory. I remember the duel between these two titans, and it was one of the greatest scene in the books (even in the movies, especially compared to the lame Battle of Hogwarts duels). There's not a single duel in all seven books to come even close to what these two did in the Ministry. I am also of the belief that Voldemort could have been the only one to defeat Dumbledore in a duel. They are equal in magical skill and in intellect, two geniuses, removed from those surrounding them, albeit in different ways. Dumbledore is benevolent, while Voldemort is not. Dumbledore is logical and a bit cold, while Voldemort is impulsive, with a quick temper, at least in the second war. I also think Dumbledore is the only person Voldemort ever respected and thought of as an actual threat, hence 'the only one he ever feared'. So having these two in a pair is delightful, especially if we play with the timeline a bit.
Grindeldore can be so sweet, mostly because of their age when they met. It's also incredibly tragic. I imagine it is extremely hard, if not impossible, for Dumbledore to find someone as a partner, seeing who he is. So he found this man, against all odds, and they had this whirlwind romance that ended horrifically. I don't think Grindelwald is his equal in the way Voldemort is; I think Grindelwald comes very close, but, in the end, Dumbledore proves much more skilled. I love them as lovers, I love them pining over the other, separated by a war, and eventually being forced to meet in combat. Devastating. I think Grindelwald, while also incredibly powerful and more intelligent than most people, is more 'human' than Dumbledore and Voldemort, if that makes sense. I think he's better with expressing feelings, experiencing them as a normal man, unlike emotionally constipated Dumbledore and Voldemort.
Which brings us to Voldemort/Grindelwald! SO much fun. I think it depends on the age we force them to meet. If Tom is significantly younger, then the power dynamic shifts firmly to Grindelwald's side. If, like in one of my fics, we play with circumstance and have them meet as their canon ages, than I think Voldemort gains the upper hand in that relationship, mostly because Grindelwald has the emotional intelligence and capability to compromise and sort of let some things slide, navigating Voldemort's pride and hubris. I love them! I think Grindelwald is the only one to be a lover to either Dumbledore or Voldemort without getting completely mowed over by these two.
I am fascinated that, while modifying canon a bit but without taking away from their canon personalities, all three possibilities of relationships between them can actually end up as close to healthy as it is possible. They all have the means to temper the other, to put their foot down, hold their ground.
So yes, I am a very big fan of extremely powerful, cunning and intelligent men getting together. As everyone knows, I love Voldemort, but I always wish to see him paired with someone that can hold their own against him, in a believable way.

I decided to finally read some of the longer fics that I have been putting off starting out with...
Lily's Boy by SomewheresSword
Main Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy and Remus Lupin/Severus Snape (I'd say those are the MAIN ones but we gets lots of couples in this one)
Type: Rewrite (starting 3rd year)
Explicitness: They have some spicy scenes but honestly a lot of fade to black and lots of kissing
POV: Alternating but heavy Harry POV
Word Count: 746,386 😮‍💨
Song:
Here are two since its long and has lots of themes
My Summary:
The summer before Harry's third year changes everything he knew. When Harry finds out that not everything is as it seems and those he trusted were leading him astray, Harry is started on a path of his own. Harry will learn who is truly on his side, find friendship in the most unexpected places, and build a home he never expected.
My Thoughts: (I need to get more organized with this I feel)
Where can I even start? This was so long, but I never felt bored or like I was just rereading cannon. I think the author did an amazing job of keeping things similar and making sense while rewriting things to happen a different way. I feel she added just enough for the plot to make sense with the direction it did go. Plot and writing wise I'd say this is an amazing time, it was a long but easy and fun read.
Characters, there was a lot. I am not a huge fan of villainizing Hermione. I can sometimes see it for Ron; but honestly, I don't like it much either. And in this story, they are both definitely not great people. Every time they did something horrible or something, I was a little upset at the decision to write them this way. For the most part, though, I think I moved past it. I understand that plot wise, it would have been hard to keep them "good." I think everyone else was pretty great and a lot of fun to read.
On a surprising note, I really enjoyed the Remus/Severus pairing in this fic. While of course I love wolfstar and think they are soulmates its fun to read different pairings every now and again, and I really enjoyed the dynamic they had in this fic. I loved how all the relationships were fairly simple sans relationship drama. There was no crazy relationship angst, which is what I was mostly worried about in a fic this long. All the plot drama definitely revolved around Harry and him defeating Voldemort and Dumbledore.
Overall, I'm glad I decided to give this a go, finally, I would say it's a nice long fic if you want something that isn't too dramatic. I'd almost say it's a cozy read, but like the source, there are a lot of death and war themes. I really enjoyed it, and I applaud the author for creating something so big and well written.

Intro Post
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello! Welcome to my blog
Some Stuff about me:
I go by the names Oli and Miles(and also Leander sometimes but shhh)
I use they/xe/he pronouns
I’m greyromantic and acespec
I have several sideblogs
@mostly-minecraft-zvahl is where I put most of my non-fandom posts and non-Harry Potter fandom posts. The main fandom I am in there is Aphmau(as evidenced by the name) but I reblog a lot of other fandoms too
@canismajor-leonisminor is for First War Era characters who don’t have much canon about them, and ships including at least one First War Era character without much canon on them (I have a different blog for this because I don’t think most of my followers care as much as I do about characters that are barely mentioned, and even then my view of a lot of these minor characters can be very different from the fandom at large)
@my-tears-ricochet5 for (mostly Taylor Swift themed)music posting
@pjo-andsequels-confessions is my Percy Jackson(+extended universe) confession blog
I’m fine with both Pro- and Anti shippers interacting with my blogs
My original posts are all tagged #og and I mostly post about Harry Potter(Anti JKR)(I am literally transgender). I will sometimes reblog posts from other fandoms
My art is tagged #my art, obviously
I have a cat named Gracie and she is a silly goober, you may see photos of her on here tagged #gracie the cat
Heres the link to my Ao3
The only WIP I’m currently trying to update is Time Rewound, a next gen time travels to Grimmauld Place fic(there is Scorbus but it’s minor)
I mostly write ficlets/microfics about Sirius Black
less important stuff(my main ships and fandom opinions, and my userboxes) under the cut
Tumblr media
A little bit about my fandom opinions and ships
Sirius is my favorite character
I’m a stan of Albus Dumbledore
I am a big fan of the seven books(I do in fact love HP canon), but I’m not a canon purist who thinks you shouldn’t HC characters as queer, or that femme/not a cis man Sirius is always bio-essentialist, or that it’s inherently misogynistic to prefer an m/m ship over an m/f ship
I’m a chronic multishipper, but I mostly post and write about Prongsfoot
I also ship Remadora and pretty much all of the canon ships as well
I hate adult Snape(I find him annoying) but acknowledge that he redeemed himself, and I’m chill with child/teenage Snape
I’m not really a fan of the popular Marauders fanon
I’m also Regulus critical and an Evan Rosier hater
Peter Pettigrew is my babygirl✨🐀
I think the Marauders were bullies but I love them anyway
I prefer Evans sisters angst over Black brothers angst
Ron is my favorite Weasley
I’m a Percy apologist
I think Hermione was done dirty by the later books in the series, and not because she ended up with Ron
I think how Harry acted in Cursed Child was actually kind of realistic, but that doesn’t mean I like it
Okay we’re done
Goodbye, thanks for reading

What characters do you dislike the most and why?
Assuming this is specific to HP becuase I post about it the most (but I can answer for another fandom if you like).
I'm going to preface this by saying that I don't count villains becuase you're not supposed to like them. And this list obviously has to do with characters I'm likely to see often based on my reading patterns.
1. Snape - mainly because there's alot of "he was really a good guy or he had to be an asshat" and I'm not into that. But also because of his canon behavior.
2. Dumbledore - don't come at me for this, but writing stories or coming up with ideas where Harry can grow up with James or Sirius has really made me look into a lot of inconsistencies with him and the Dursleys and everything. As far as I'm concerned, he can be okay with the "10 dark and difficult years" or locking up Harry and Sirius and still be good to me. So I am very critical of him. But being critical of him usually gets backlash and that just makes me dislike him more.
3. Fanon and Canon Remus Lupin - Canon Remus wasn't that great but you can make him better in fanon. Instead fanon turned him into James and make him long suffering for putting up with Sirius. So, yeah not a fan.
4. Regulus Black - he was never much of a character to begin with but now fanon has turned him into "so much better than Sirius" and makes me wanna barf. Plus, dude made things worse for Harry in canon.
5. Mcgonagall- this might sound strange but like... she's always lauded as so fucking bomb ass and she legit does nothing... ever. She is all bark no bite and the only thing she ever really does for Harry is make things worse. Like the points in first year, or not believing or even looking into the stone when they expressed worry. She doesn't help him at all in book 2 or 4, she tells him to keep his head down in book 5. Like... I just ... yeah...
So right now, those are the first I think of. But it fluctuates. Sometimes I don't like some of the Weasleys, sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't like Hermione, sometimes I do. Never a big fan of antagonistic characters in general so obviously I dislike Malfoy, Umbridge, Voldemort yadda yadda.
All depends.
That's for the ask :)

About Me
I figured I should do this. No idea why. Anyway, it'll get updated... whenever I feel like it should get updated.
Tumblr bio (because it's somehow getting cut off and I don't like that): I'm Josh. 32. Unapologetically Jewish & Zionist. History geek, nerd, and Francophone. I write fanfics on AO3. Slytherin ambition with Gryffindor nerve. Blank/empty/anti-Zionist and antisemitic blogs will be blocked
What's your name?
Sir Lancelot of Camelot (and my quest is to seek the Holy Grail) It's Josh [surname redacted]. Pronouns are he/him.
You're on AO3?
I am! I'm currently writing a Wrong-Boy-Who-Lived fanfic (yes, yes, I know, WBWL stories have a... reputation...).
What fandoms do/will you write?
Predominantly Harry Potter if only because that series was my first love and still has a place in my heart. I'm also planning a few fanfics in the Mass Effect, DC, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, original fiction, and Fallout fandoms.
Why?
Well it all started when I was born...
Who are your fanfic idols/inspirations?
@artemisia-black, hands down. She is one of the finest writers I've ever seen, ever had the privilege of interacting with, and I genuinely adore her as a person.
But I'm also a big fan of Frickles, TheSinister_Man, Dorothea Greengrass, and TheEndless7.
What kind of fanfics do you write?
If it's Harry Potter, it's either a Wrong Boy-Who-Lived (WBWL) fic — either with Harry's brother as the believed to be Boy-Who-Lived or Neville as the believed to be Boy-Who-Lived. Or it'll be "action-adventure" where canon diverts this way instead of that way.
Ships?
I mean the USS Massachusetts is pretty neat, but that's also because I was able to visit it when I was a kid.
No, I mean, who do you ship?
Ohhhh!
I'm not a fan of Harry/Ginny, nor Ron/Hermione. Actually, the only canon pairings I like are James/Lily and Ted/Andromeda... that's pretty much it.
For Harry: Lavender (she'd be great for him ngl), Hermione (eh, sometimes), Pansy (enemies to lovers is top tier), Daphne (Haphne is a top tier ship and everyone should know it), Susan, Fleur (I just think she's neat), Tonks (post-war), Andromeda (post-war), Parvati, Padma, and Bellatrix (when it involves time travel).
Most out-there ship you've got?
Ron/Pansy, Hermione/Cormac or Anthony Goldstein/Hermione, Draco/Ginny. Also Kingsley/Bellatrix, Sirius/Aurora Sinistra, and Snape/getting his ass handed to him.
Most cursed ship you've seen?
[trauma intensifies] We don't go there. But I've seen some shit.
What character(s) do you hate the most?
Snape. I despise Severus Snape with every fiber of my being. The fact that Harry names his son after that child-abusing terror supporting racist wank-stain who simped hard for his mother after calling her a bigoted slur is a stain (and wanted her as a prize after he sold Lily, James, and baby Harry out to Voldemort) is the reason I throw the epilogue into the trash where it belongs.
Also Dumbledore, while I do think he's (for the most part) well-meaning, is very much the chess master who got far too up his own ass with how important he is. Also he facilitated child abuse, so I don't like him.
And Molly Weasley, who is an overbearing harpy of a mother who gleefully and maliciously went out of her way to bully a 15 year old girl because she read some bullshit in the Daily Prophet — when a few chapters before she had dismissed the author (Rita Skeeter) as a hack.
What do you do?
I work for a medical provider's office. Specifically, an ophthalmologist's office. Oh, go get your eyes checked!
Do you like it?
Tumblr media
So then what do you want to do?
I'm actually getting myself out there to be an actor! And a writer of works that aren't fanfics.
Are you Zionist?
Yes.
What does that — ?
It means I believe Jews have the right to national self-determination in our ancestral homeland.
But what about — ?
That's literally the definition of Zionism. And yes, I do believe that anti-Zionism is antisemitism.
What if I'm an anti-Zionist?
Get off my blog then. I don’t want you here.

My first introduction to Squash was a mention of her 22 Slash Fics for 22 Years (though it was 21, at the time) rec list. Then I had to look for more and was suitably impressed! Very thoughtful, detailed rec lists; but best of all, such good taste! Squash's recs were right up my alley! Even now, I don't even blink when Squash recs things, I just blindly open links and Mark For Later. (Or, for non-AO3 links, I save them to my Pocket app.)
Then one day, Squash recced Teardrop In Your Palm on her New HP Slash Fics Published in 2021 rec list!! Which made me feel quite famous, let me tell you. And insanely flattered. "This person who recs such good fics!!! Recced!!!! MY???? FIC??????" (Am I super casually sneaking extra recs into the Introduction section? Well spotted! Yes. Yes I am.)
Of course, Squash is more than just a gourd with good taste in fics. She is a very intelligent, enthusiastic, supportive fan. Big love for fandom, the community, the history, the culture, and more! She is openminded and openhearted. A rockstar cheerleader. She leaves such sweet comments! She has read a lot, and somehow finds the time to do all of this stuff, even with life being hecka weird and rough!
Best of all, Squash is a good friend. I can fearlessly barge into her DMs and blather about my woes, various dramas, and worst of all: really humiliating fangirl shenanigans. If I can shamelessly fangirl in front of anyone, it's Squash! She is a great listener. Very compassionate and supportive and understanding. She is an absolutely fantastic HUMAN above all else, and I just adore her!
And with that in mind...check out just a few of the hecka awesome stuff Squash has done!
Meta
House of the Dragon Fanfic Character Analysis - Daemon from eldritcher's "Ossuarium"
Fanfic Relationship Analysis - Daemyra from eldritcher's "Ossuarium"
Fanfic Relationship Analysis - Rhaelicent from eldritcher's "Ossuarium"
Pretty sure these are some of the coolest things I've ever seen?? Very loving, ecstatic, detailed essays on eldritcher's work!!!! Too cool, even if I am woefully behind on Ossarium!
Recs
5 Meta Recs
Very cool concept for a rec list! I do love a good meta post. Though don't read that Making of Contempt haha oh no. I see a lot of fic recs. I've even seen some art recs. I'm not sure I'd seen meta recs before this, and I'd sure love to see more of them! I inhale good meta when I see it!
10 Albus Dumbledore Slash Recs
I do need some good Dumbledore slash fics in my life, and Squash provides. Such good fics on this list! Especially In Infinite Remorse of Soul, which I'm obsessed with.
10 Intro Slash Fics With 2nd person POV
I love this! Second person POV can be such a difficult one to pull off writing, or to properly get into reading, but when it is done well, it is done very well! And we can all thank Squash for putting together a list of goodies for us!
10 Snarry Recs with Sexposition
What a great list, wow. Snarry, for one thing, our shared OTP! But also...sexposition! Nice. Also: so many great fics. Wow wow wow. 10/10 rec list. (Haha. 10/10 for the 10 Snarry Recs. Look at me go.)
Some Snarry fics are seriously brilliant about using smut for plot exposition - they are indeed!
Comments Are Love / 5 Comment Recs
A very unique and special rec list idea! As a writer, I can assure you, comments ARE love. They are big love. And I love my commenters. It's also a reminder that comments are soul food not only for the creators, but can be so meaningful and impactful to other readers, as well! And an excellent reminder that this is a community. A community built on love.

I just still don’t think outing Lupin as a werewolf was the answer. I am aware it didn’t change his life that much - he seems pretty ok with it in the next books and holds no grudge against Snape. But I’m trying to isolate the fact that Snape, no matter what mental gymnastics Snape fans will use to defend his backwards actions, weaponised someone’s condition to get what he wanted. We can’t assume Lupin was the only werewolf in britain trying to live among wizards, and this kind of public outing for the purposes of scandalising students and parents was just a shitty move not just for Lupin’s career (wether you think he deserved it or not), but for all werewolves trying to make an honest living. Snape could have revealed Sirius and Lupin were close friends, could have said he helped Black escape (again, it would have been his word against a werewolf and three teenagers), but he went for the werewolf thing. I agree about Lupins cowardice, but I don’t understand why it’s so hard to talk about Snape’s selfishness - he’s in this fight to repent for what happened to Lily, not because he’s the Ally Of The Year. Yes, he came around to change his views in blood supremacy, but his resentment and anger exploded in a big “WEREWOLF” finger pointing, so he’s clearly not perfect. Reminds me a bit of Umbridge giving Hagrid a hard time because he’s half-giant, rather than for being a disorganised teacher.
Oh, I totally agree that Snape’s not perfect and it was a very petty thing to do, I just like Snape because he’s not perfect and a petty bitch sometimes (a lot of the times). I hope that clears things up!
As to the working with Black part, I doubt Dumbledore would let him say too much about that, but I don’t think Dumbledore gave him that same restriction regarding to his lycanthropy.

Ok I’m curious on your take on Lupin ships now so: Lupin/Lily, Lupin/Molly, Lupin/Mcgonagall and Lupin/Dumbledore ??
thank you very much for the ask, anon! i know I'm often quite harsh to poor old remus as a potential romantic partner, but i actually quite back some of these...
lily evans/remus lupin
answered here - although this isn't one of the ones i back...
remus lupin/molly weasley
answered here - this very much is one i back.
remus lupin/minerva mcgonagall
however controversial a statement this may be, i am a really big fan of mcgonagall/marauders-era pairings. i've always backed her with snape, and i have recently decided to become invested in the concept of her with sirius.
and as i've said there, one of the things i find really interesting about writing mcgonagall is how easily she can be turned into someone who is cynical and jaded when it comes to love - which fits lupin, who believes the great romantic love of fairytales to be something the man he sees himself as has no hope of accessing, to a tee.
and i also like how much of mcgonagall's life is influenced by the twin forces of guilt and grief - and how this is also something lupin shares. i think something fascinating could be done with a story set during prisoner of azkaban which has both her and lupin wrestling with the guilt they feel for not realising that sirius had gone over to the death eaters and would betray james and the way that grief fights against their fond memories of him - and which then explored how their guilt would shift once sirius' innocence was revealed towards them feeling terrible about how they could ever have believed that he might have been a traitor.
i think this one's really got potential, lads. get writing.
albus dumbledore/remus lupin
yes, entirely because it would be so fucked-up.
i find lupin's canonical relationship with dumbledore incredibly interesting, particularly the ways his incredibly rigid loyalty to dumbledore, his placing of him on a pedestal, and his desperate desire for dumbledore's approval all stem from the fact that he is so beholden to dumbledore for the [modicum] of safety he enjoys in the world.
it's implied in the text that lupin is the only werewolf in the latter half of the twentieth century [and so, i think we can argue, the only werewolf in history] who is permitted to study at hogwarts - and, therefore, to receive access to an institution which is integral to maintaining the class system around which the wizarding world functions. as lupin tells us in half-blood prince, he's the only werewolf he knows who bears the "civilising" markers of having been allowed an elite wizarding education - and these give him a level of privilege over his peers even as he's discriminated against by the state.
and every single advantage he ever attains comes via dumbledore. the backstory for lupin on pottermore makes clear that dumbledore offered him the opportunity to study at hogwarts as a result of his personal beef with fenrir greyback [rather than a desire to improve access to education for werewolves more generally] and then protected him over the course of his schooldays. dumbledore is also the only reason he gets his job in prisoner of azkaban - and, with it, access to the lifesaving wolfsbane potion for the first time.
it's clear that lupin feels rightfully grateful to dumbledore for these opportunities, but it's also clear that his gratitude means he is unwilling to criticise, contradict, or disobey dumbledore directly.
which is, obviously, a recipe for disaster in the context of an intimate relationship...

LONG WISHLIST POST UNDER THE CUT. DM me if you're interested in starting any of these:
ALL POTC Characters: All curses at sea are broken with the destruction of Poseidon’s Trident, but there must always be someone to ferry the souls of those lost at sea to the afterlife, and with Will Turner escaping his fate on the Flying Dutchman, Davy Jones is recalled from the dead, a new curse reclaiming him in order to fulfill this purpose. After escaping it with his death, peace in the afterlife, he’s more livid than he was before. At Will Turner, at Jack Sparrow, at Calypso, the world.
Azriel - finding his mate please & thank (i have no stake in the ship wars like I’m down for either of the popular theories or also someone new thanks) Stannis - taking King’s Landing at the battle of the Blackwater. :)! Daisy - meeting with other former members of the band (sans Billy obviously) after the break up of the band because she was friendly with them Karen - running into other members of the band (especially Graham) years later Baron - Escaping prison and going after the Strongholds for revenge and finding out his own son is friends with Will Frank - Exploring other relationships within members of the Victory Project, besides his one with Alice (which I love) or Shelley (ditto) Loki - Tricking Thanos and not actually dying at the beginning of Infinity War and surviving the Snap (or dying in the Snap and coming back for the final battle but I prefer the former because Thor needs a goddamn break) Carolyn - surviving on the dark planet, somehow, healing after the stab and eating the creatures, repairing a ship and getting the hell out of there, running into other characters from the initial mission, or Riddick himself Madge - ending up in 13, having spent more time with Katniss’ family and Gale during the QQ, though her parents did not make it out 12. Being there for Katniss when she can be during her time in 13. Clemensia - Post the snake bite and into University, while still healing and reeling from the side effects of the snakes’ venom
Morrigan / Eris - Honestly, their marriage going through. I’m curious what would have happened. I’m also very interested to explore theories of what we THINK happened because context clues give us enough to know that Eris isn’t the guilty party. Tywin - Knowing or realizing that Arya was not who she claimed and taking her back with him to King’s Landing, but keeping her out of sight until after the wedding. Lily - More in any au where she apparates away with Harry to a safe house (Remus, Sirius, Dumbledore, Minerva, Molly, anyone in the Order). Harry Osborn - ANYTHING IN ANY VERSE HE’S MY BOY (he’s been neglected on my solo muse) Loki - His trick with Thanos being another feint: he’s duplicated himself once more, and reveals himself to Thor just after Thanos disappears and the ship explodes, both are saved by the Guardians. ETC. Ben / Adrian - Am I the only person who genuinely thought they were the best ship? That they absolutely loved each other in the end, until Mercy passed? Anyways, Mercy lives. And so thus do Ben and Adrian. Together. I can also see them moving past it if the show was so focused on having Ben be a pick me for Amy. Matt the Radar Tech - Running into SW people for laughs, them thinking he’s Ben. He’s not. They just look alike. A lot. Lily Page - Meeting her father (I still HC that as being Zorro) or repairing her friendship/relationship with Emma. Katniss - Instead of her tracker being cut out, it’s Peeta’s that is, and he is saved by 13, and she is taken to the Capitol to be tortured for information and to try and turn the tides against the Rebels. Bonnie - Someone love her please and don’t DIE IN THE MEANTIME. I’m a big fan of well done Bamon, Bonkai, Benzo, Bonora….But also could be convinced of anything. Rosalie - An idea being what if she was already married to Royce when he and his friends did what they did? The revenge plot takes an entirely different meaning when it’s a husband, particularly if she’s already been hoping for a child, which is further dashed by her survival and change into a vampire.
Nesta - accepting eris’ offer :)! Robb - making it to king’s landing and winning the war, liberating the North, and getting Sansa back to safety, then having to head out and find Arya. Violet - anything in her marvel or ouat verses tbh I spent a lot of time on those Shelley - taking over the Victory Project after killing Frank. Max - coming back after that summer for the start of college, much to everyone’s surprise and keeping his escapades close to the chest (idk the timeline of that show it was a fucking mess lmao) Mark, Lawrence - I want to write more about their dynamics with each other as apprentices to John. We only briefly get Mark and Amanda interacting - gimme more. Bruce - let’s throw out the entire mcu because it’s fucking trash for him thanks. Brunnhilde - More of her relationship with Carol :( Kamala - Building of the young avengers lets GOOO Loki - anything :( Sid - I am fuLLY CONVINCED SID IS THE FATHER AND JESSE IS A RED HERRING (I already have this going I just wish more people cared about HIMYF) Brian - Going to NY and seeing Justin again. :)! Snow White - anything :( Charming - I have about 90420934902 aus for him honestly. I have so many ideas for this stupid idiot. Neal - surviVING AND COPARENTING WITH EMMA AND REGINA SHIPS DON’T FUCKING MEAN YOU HAVE TO KILL A GOOD CHARACTER WHO LITERALLY WAS THE REASON RUMPLESTILTSKIN MANIPULATED REGINA INTO CASTING THE FUCKING CURSE MY GOD THIS SHOW PISSES ME OFF anyways Davy Jones - returning after the ‘curse’ is lifted from Will Turner, because someone must always be there to ferry the souls to the other side Ben Solo - ANYTHING :( Jyn - her and Cassian getting evacuated just before the explosion and surviving, assisting the Rebellion. Finn - training as a jedi (either trilogy re-write or post trilogy) Jar Jar - i s2g if someone doesn’t write with Sith Jar Jar… Anakin and Padme - either an au where she convinces him to run away with her and leave everything behind and raise their children on Naboo before Obi Wan shows up and he believes her when she says she didn’t know he was there and they enlist his help in staging their deaths OR an au where he convinces her to join him on his path to the dark side. (i write both so I’ll write either) Carolyn - escaping the dark planet after surviving the stabbing, living off of the creatures that would be her demise, fixing a ship in the darkness, built by lights she manages to fix throughout the rubble, and fires made along the way. finding other riddick characters / riddick himself Coriolanus Snow - Exploring more of his additions to the games and how he helped to curate them to be the spectacle they became. Annie - Not having anyone to volunteer for her so having to go through the Quarter Quell with Finnick (Hi I love PAIN). Not escaping the Arena and being taken back to the Capitol. Madge - Watching the Games with Katniss’ family and thus being there when the blackouts happen and escaping District 12 with Gale and everyone else to District 13. Kili - surviving PLS Renesmee Carlie - more of her dynamic growing up in a town that’s definitely got an attraction for the supernatural. Bella - not taking Edward back immediately, actually being pissed that he lied like what a dick Sam - imprinting on LEAH jfC WHAT A WASTE (or better yet, Leah being the first wolf to change and imprinting on HIM thanks) Garrett - torn between natural instincts, love for Kate, and never letting himself be tested by a challenge, learning how to survive and satiate on animal blood vs. human blood
Wishlist based solely on songs from TTPD. Please do not steal. Message me if interested. These are VAGUE IDEAS based on the song lyrics, not based on the history behind the songs or their literal meanings. Muses listed are just ideas, but they’re all open to all muses. Mentions of drug use, alcohol abuse, mental illness, abuse, etc. are involved in many so if those trigger you, I would not read more. This is part 1. I will put more at a later date:
Fortnight: A manic episode turned into full psychosis, muse A ends up in a psych ward. Muse B (either another patient or the treating doctor) and Muse A fall for each other, creating a scenario either in the minds or in the midst of Muse A being released. I love you, it’s ruining my life.
The Tortured Poets Department: Muse A and Muse B are in a situationship, but Muse A wants more, while Muse B is happy with their situation, considering the benefit of their freedom to explore other options, while both muses are using the relationship to advance their own perspective lives (either in writing, music, etc.). Muse A is desperate to keep Muse B, but Muse B is not committed. Who’s gonna hold you like me? Nobody. Nofuckingbody.
My boy only breaks his favorite toys: Muse A falls in love with Muse B, and is madly in love, until time has wasted away their relationship, and Muse A realizes they are not in love, but they also don’t want to be the one to end things. Endlessly breaking them down, emotionally, until Muse B ends it themselves. There was a litany of reasons why we could’ve played for keeps this time. — cause you should’ve seen him when he first saw me.
Down Bad: Falling for someone quickly and suddenly only to have them ghost, disappear, almost like they weren’t really there in the first place.
So Long, London: Muse A uproots their entire life to be with Muse B, moving far away from their home, friends, family, and essentially pours everything into the relationship. It’s great, for a while, and Muse A even falls in love with the place they live, but the messy breakup does cause it to be hard to leave. Eventually, Muse A does leave when the relationship shows no future, but moving on is harder than expected. And I’m just getting color back into my face. And I’m just mad as hell ‘cause I loved this place.
But Daddy I love Him: Muse A and Muse B are in a controversial relationship. Muse A is constantly warned by family and friends that Muse B is bad news. Everyone is constantly trying to get Muse A to leave Muse B, but they are far too deep into it now. I’ll tell you something right now, I’d rather burn my whole life down, then listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning. I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace.
Fresh out the Slammer: Muse A has been in a long time relationship, but it’s ending quickly, and tumultuously, and as soon it’s over, they call Muse B, their ex (either relationship or situationship or hookup), because they want someone familiar, who they know they can love and who loves them in return. Fresh out the slammer I know who my first call will be to.
Florida!!!!: Muse A has had a messy breakup, and wants to escape. Muse B lives in a far off place, and invites Muse A to escape there, where they can be fun, and messy, and forget the past. Bury their ex’s in the swamp (figuratively) and move on. So I did my best to lay to rest all of the bodies that have ever been on my body.
Guilty as Sin?: Muse A and Muse B are dancing around each other, for several reasons. Fantasies aside, what is stopping them from taking the next step? What if he’s written 'Mine’ on my upper thigh only in my mind?
Guilty as sin Elriel plots when? OR Feysand? Fresh out the Slammer Neris plots when? Who’s afraid of little old me Nesta embracing Lady Death plots when? So long london Feyre about the Spring Court plots when? The Albatross being Nesta plots when? I hate it here Nesta plots when? The Prophecy Lucien plots when?

ok so a few days ago you shared a picture of your wips, and i saw a twd au. i am a huge walking dead fan, so i’m curious as to what your ideas and stuff are for that au?? if you don’t have much, that’s fine, i just love twd so much and am nosy :)
ok imma start off with a warning that this is all very nebulous and not explicitly planned at all and is just a blob of an idea that's been floating about in my brain (also i stopped watching walking dead after season 7 bc i started university then and ran out of time to watch 🥲)
the only concrete thing i have for sure is this portion of a potential prologue or ch1 that i wrote out in july:
Tumblr media
right now i think it'll be regulus POV but that is very much my default state of existence and might just be me feeling inclined to stay in my comfort zone, so i think it might be interesting to make step out of that and it dual POV and write sirius' POV as well (i've never written sirius' POV! maybe it'll be fun to explore it lol)
either way, a big point of the plot would be sirius & regulus trying to find one another (kinda similar to how rick had to go find carl & lori in season 1 of twd). i'm not sure if i want to follow the timeline of twd however, because rick finds them relatively quickly, and i kind of think it'd be cool (aka me making characters suffer for angst hahaha) if there was a time jump so that a good chunk of time passes between the texts above & when the fic actually starts.
i tentatively want dumbledore to be something adjacent to the governor and voldemort as something adjacent to negan. i also want pandora to be the cdc scientist but she will not suffer the same fate as him (i love her too much for that < 3)
if i go with the time jump idea, then james & harry would maybe be similar to rick & carl (except like, a bit younger)?? idk if i want to include harry or not bc writing kids is so hard to me lol. but! i think it would be really fun to explore the morality issues that were similar to what carl had in twd, like the struggles of raising kids in such a hostile world where murder, violence, and a degree of paranoia are necessary to survive
it'll also be wolfstar & jegulus (probably with background pandalily dorlene & rosekiller?) because i am nothing if not predictable
i think that's all i have for now!! >:)
