Mike and Abby headcanons because my brain can't function normally now that I know Mike raised her

He picked out her name, as his mother was unresponsive to the nurse when trying to fill out the birth certificate. He chose Abigail (Abby) because it was the name of the protagonist of his and Garrett's favorite book series.

He put Abby's crib in his room after the first week she was home so he could reach her faster when she woke up

He broke down crying one night when no matter what he did, she wouldn't stop crying. He held her and they cried together, until both fell asleep

He stole his parents' credit card to buy essentials for her (diapers, formula, clothes)

He got a job mowing lawns to buy her essentials in case his parents ever noticed he was stealing their card (they never did)

He hated going to school because he was terrified of something happening to her when he was away

He would come home during lunch to check in on her

When she got a fever for the first time, he nearly called 911 in a panic

She loved peek-a-boo and they'd play it for HOURS

Her first word was 'Mike', and Mike cried afterwards

He got her into art when he bought finger paints for her and they painted together

He would take her to the public library on weekends so they could get out of the house, he spent hours reading to her

Abby loves snow, so whenever it snowed they make snowmen, snow angels, and build forts.

He cried when dropping her off to her first day of kindergarten

He put her hair in two braids everyday for school, it's the only style he knew how to do

She first asks about Garrett when she's five, and he tells her that he was their brother who died before she was born. She asks if Garrett would have liked her. Mike tearfully says 'Yes'

For his nineteenth birthday, she buys him ice cream with her tooth fairy money (all three dollars). Mike tries to refuse it, but she won't let him. They end up sharing it after he tells her he couldn't possibly finish it all himself.

Aunt Jane tries to bribe Abby with dolls and nice clothing to convince Abby to live with her instead. Abby is excited but when she finds out she only gets it if she leaves Mike, she refuses

Abby hates thunderstorms (too loud), so whenever there is one, Mike let's her sleep in bed with him. It's the only time he doesn't have dreams about the camping trip

When Abby got into her first fight at school (she was being bullied and she decided to fight back), Mike takes her side. When they get home, he shows her how to properly throw a punch so she doesn't hurt her fingers as much.

She asks Mike for a cat or dog, and he tells her they can't afford one, but promises he'll get her one someday

He keeps every drawing she gives him, they either go out on display on the fridge or walls, or they go into a box in his room.

As she got older, they started to butt heads a lot more. Mike remembers how he used to be with his parents before Garrett got taken and thinks it's the universe punishing him.

Her school has a father-daughter dance and Mike offers to take her. They have a great time, it's one of the best nights of their lives.

She cut her own hair when she was eight and didn't do a very good job. Mike thankfully managed to fix it and make it even.

He tried to get her involved in sports or dance, but she never wanted to do it. He's secretly thankfully since it can get expensive.

He never, ever blamed her for the shitty situation his life had become. She's the only bright spot in his life

ANYWAYS in a high school!au setting i see a lot of ppl like to hc jungwon as class/stuco president, but i think he’s definitely more on the quiet side .. he’s popular, yes, but not too popular if that makes sense. for him, though, this is perfect ... he flies under the radar, and him missing school a couple days in a row every month or so goes virtually unnoticed. HOWEVER, you’ve always had a sneaking suspicion .. it’s not like you and won are Rivals—there would be no merit in picking an unnecessary fight with the boy who volunteers at the soup kitchen on the weekends and feeds the stray cats near the gym and asks the lunch ladies how their days are going—but, there’s something strange going on. you’re sure of it.

jungwon comes into school one day w a busted lip and a black eye. everyone is fawning over him, asking him what happened—did he get mugged, did his face hurt, did he give the other person a run for their money? you don’t bother checking in on him when he takes his seat next to you. you just hand him his calculus test (he did better than you again n it’s infuriating) and clench your jaw, willing yourself to disappear. that familiar, green monster hangs in the shadows behind you, and its breath fans across your neck as it attempts to coax a physical manifestation of jealously from your lips. eventually, you excuse yourself to the nurse’s office and skip the rest of the day.

later that night, you’re trying to study in your room, but you keep getting distracted by the daily bugle’s twitter updates. spiderman is out and about again, and they won’t let the poor guy’s good reputation rest. it’s all “spiderman fights villain and knocks over streetlight onto local man’s car” and “spiderman forgoes saving lady’s churro to destroy half of grand central station”—and, honestly, you feel a bit bad. he’s trying his best. but, as rain patters against your window, the sound threatens to lull you to sleep. exhaustion overtakes your body, your eyes are drooping, and your head keeps falling from your hands. and then BOOM—the loudest noise you’ve ever heard startles you from your fatigue-induced trance. with a look of fear in your eyes, you glance over your shoulder to look at the window and the sight that greets you is enough to freeze every molecule in your body.

the aforementioned hero is clinging to the side of your building, banging his fist on the glass and practically begging to be let in. his movements are frantic and a bit scary. you open the window as quick as you can and let him slide through the small gap you’ve created. there are copious tears in his suit, blood flows from a nasty gash on his shoulder. rushing around on some crude form of auto pilot, you grab a clean shirt from your closet and press it into his wound. you tell him to hold it there and instruct him to sit in your desk chair. he's sopping wet from head to toe, and all you manage to think about is how glad you are that your parents are away for the weekend.

eventually, after only almost vomiting once, the cut is clean and bandaged up. "you're so lucky that i've been trying to get rid of this shirt forever, mr. spiderman," you scoff as he perches on the sill of your window, preparing to swing away into the night. "if i had grabbed one of my favorite outfits, i would've killed you before that wound could have."

a giggle escapes from his lips, and for a moment, you find yourself taken aback. he sounds like a high schooler—young, lively, and everything but the twenty-something year old man you thought he would be. "sorry about that ... i'll have to swing by and drop off some laundry detergent one of these days," he laughs. his voice sounds so familiar, but your mind is still reeling from your recent discovery. the hero offers you a wave and gestures toward his previous seat. "sleep well—and, good luck on that calculus homework."

the next day at school, jungwon is nowhere to be seen. you thank whatever happens to reside in the sky that he can't see the bright red 67 at the top of your most recent calculus test. the next next day, however, jungwon comes in with his arm in a sling. as his seatmate, you're the one that has to help him out for the rest of the week. but, when you're sitting in free period, you happen to take another glance at the bandages around his shoulder as jungwon naps next to you. a sharp column of ice pierces through your lower abdomen; under jungwon's sling, the lowest layer of bandages are covered with dried blood and sweat.

they look eerily familiar. almost like the ones you used to patch spiderman up over the weekend.

but, jungwon couldn't be spiderman. he couldn't be—he's too sweet, too gentle, too kind. peeking over at his backpack, you note that it seems a bit bulkier today; a recognizable purple cap winks at you from the unzipped main pocket. a chill tickles the length of your spine as you register what happened to be resting against his class notebooks.

Hello! I really love From the Archives, it is one of my favorite series ever! The ways in which you adapt different characters and events into the story, like the Double-Life-Finals-Hell-Week, Cub de-aging to reflect his skin change, Cleo's armor stand work equating to making statues, Scott's refusal to do a boogeyman kill in Last Life turning to him resisting the Murder, I could go on and on. Every time I read a statement and notice all the aspects you've adapted to the au, I literally think "That's so clever!" to myself. Seriously, every time!

It's difficult to write in a dialogue-only format, but you do it so well! The action in What's the Time, Mr. Wolf? was clear, even though it wasn't able to be written out. Your characterization is really good, too. Each character has a clear voice and there are often similarities to their real counterparts. I especially noticed it with Tango's names for the entities, which all sound like names the actual Tango would come up with, it's brilliant!

I get so excited to read every statement, and while there are some I like more than others, I don't think there are any that I would say I even slightly dislike. They're all so amazing! I want to collect all of them into a huge fancy tome and stick it on a pedestal in a fancy library with a spotlight shining down on it, that's the level of awesomeness this deserves!

I think this got away from me a bit, haha! Anyway, your writing's great, I love it a lot, now that I've caught up to FTA I'm going to check out your other stuff. Have a lovely day or night or whatever-time-it-is where you are, and I look forward to reading the next statement!

Honestly, dating him is about what you’d expect, with a few little surprises sprinkled in for fun. Gotta keep things fresh, can’t have you getting super bored of him. He’s the kind of guy who likes to hang out in graveyards and he’s a bit morbid… but at the same time, he’s definitely down-to-Earth. Compared to some of the other guys, he’s almost normal.

Writes poetry about you sometimes? While he doesn’t advertise it, he’s a romantic at heart. He likes doing those sappy things, comparing the touch of your hand in his hair to the cool breeze of a mausoleum, and your kiss is like the first breath that the dead take upon resurrection… perhaps he keeps writing these things because you’re the first person to truly appreciate his dark, flowery language.

He texts you a lot, especially if you have a job or studies that keep you away. He’s got more free time, being a student (one who can admit to slacking off somewhat in areas which don’t interest him), so he can get slightly bored and when he’s bored, his mind wanders to you. To see Hey. Hanging out in the library. And I’m thinking of you. I might check out this book… wanna come summon demons with me later? ;) with a picture of him smirking behind some ancient-looking tome makes you very happy. Maybe you’ll even consider it! ‘Melancholy flower’/’melon cauliflower’ for a vegan emo isn’t the only pun he has up his sleeve. He’s also got other small references too, and puns aren’t his preferred method of one-lining. If it’ll get you to smile, however, he’ll use them. Particularly if he feels awkward and doesn’t think he has much else to say, he’ll pun. A well-timed quip of, “Well, look at that. Good for them; they’ve got one foot in the rave.” in response to a couple of elderly partygoers decked out in glow sticks will have you giggling, at least. Or he hopes it will. He almost wishes you’d never stop laughing, it’s the best sound he’s ever heard.

In addition to just texting you a bunch, he also loves to send you naughty pictures. Nothing too bad that anyone else would be appalled to seeing on your phone… just tiny things to tease you. Photos of him wearing a new pair of skeleton underwear accompanied by a caption of, What do you think? Too many bones? 😉 Or maybe a pic of his hand resting on his bare thigh, with the excuse that he wants to know what you think of the nail polish he just put on. All’s fair, isn’t it? He definitely wants you thinking about him.

For all that he pretends to be a dark and troubled bad boy, his ideal date night is… getting some takeout, watching a horror flick, and falling asleep on the couch cuddled up in your arms. (Or with you cuddled in his. He’s not picky about that part, as long as there’s cuddling going on!) Often when that happens, he’ll wake up in the middle of the night, gaze fondly at you for a few minutes, and then drift off with a hint of a smile on his face. It’s so disgustingly domestic and he hates how much he loves it.

A relationship?? What’s… what’s that??? He’s clueless. And he’s not clueless by virtue of not being intelligent, because he’s very smart. He just… has struggled in connecting with people, for a very long time. Before you, he never really had romance with anyone. His mind was laser-focused on his job, so it was as if he never had time for anything else. Just… be patient with him. He loves you, but he’s very much still learning how to exist inside a romantic relationship.

That said, he’s surprisingly good at knowing how to be a partner. That might be mostly because he’s aware and observant, to the point that he just… notices things about you. He knows what your preferred morning drink is, and he knows what it looks like when you’re tired or in pain, and his heart has begun to beat to match the cadence of your speech. And if there’s something he doesn’t know, he has no shame in asking. (Well… usually.) He brings you a drink or painkillers if you need, encourages you to rest when it seems you’ve been overworking, and he knows how to make you laugh. He very much takes pride in being the best partner for you that he can be.

Uh. Well. It’s. It’s just. He’s an assassin! He’s a serial killer who takes commissions! His lifestyle, while entirely badass as far as he’s concerned, is also dangerous. He’s excellent at what he does, but the fact is that sometimes he has a bad day or his target has a good day. To say nothing of rivalries or competition between assassins, particularly during ‘open’ hits that directly pit them against each other. He will come home injured, it’s just a matter of when it happens. Hopefully you’re not too attached to your carpets, because he’ll stagger in dripping blood all over them, begging you to let him take care of himself. Of course, that’s impossible, so there will definitely be times you’ll have to patch him up in the bathroom. He can’t go to the hospital, right? He… he trusts you to take care of him.

He has quite the singing voice, even if he vehemently denies that he likes to sing. Often he’ll start by humming while the two of you are relaxing and snuggling, and if you insist on watching a musical during movie night, he’ll usually start to sing along in a low voice. For whatever reason he’s embarrassed by it! Although the urge to sing ‘rose’ when he got transformed into a dragon, that is absolutely not to say it wasn’t there before. Singing relaxes him, and it might just be because he’s unpracticed in being vulnerable around people that singing in front of others, even you, flusters him a bit. Though… he likes it if you fall asleep to his singing. That’s flattering.

He can get… possessive. Nowhere near Cole levels of possessive or anything, but his one sore spot is that he is petrified of the idea that he might not be ‘cool’ in your eyes. He’s convinced that you’ll wake up one day, look at him, and go, “Oh, my GOD, you’re so boring.” before walking out of his life forever. And he can’t take that. He will do literally anything in the name of keeping you interested in him. Actually, up to and including admitting that he’s afraid you think he’s boring and that you’re going to leave him. However, it’s a win-win; you get the emotional openness and some meaningful intimacy out of him, and he gets the reassurance that you’re super fascinated with him and you’re not going anywhere. Honesty is SEXY!!!

Is it getting hot in here, or is just because he’s dragging the essence of hell behind him? Who knows at this point? It’s really his game and you’re just along for the ride. Maybe that’s how you like it. If that wasn’t how you like it, you probably wouldn’t be with him. He likes to do dangerous things, so you’ll have to be careful exactly which ones you do with him. He forgets sometimes that humans can’t take the kinds of abuse that demons can! So if he mentions a ‘vacation’ to his ‘hometown’ by ‘a beautiful lake’, guide him toward something else. That beautiful lake is made of fire, down in hell, and to you it’d be less a vacation and more like a nightmare. Oops! He tried.

Shockingly okay with the whole arrangement he has going with you. It’s a shame he can’t manipulate you, because you sort of see through all his tricks and no-sell any of the bad ideas, but he’s not too broken up. He’s convinced he’ll eventually find something you’ll fall for, so now he’s just biding his time. Except… during that time, he finds himself actually falling for you. That comes with not wanting to hurt you or betray your trust, which means that slowly he loses the urge to manipulate you at all. He goes from wanting your soul to just wanting your heart. Awwwww~!

You wanna wear his hoodie? He’ll let you wear his hoodie. Hell, if his clothes fit you, he’ll let you wear all of them. Not only is he totally fine walking around wearing very little or nothing at all, demons are possessive creatures by nature. It hits that button to see you covered in things that are his, which makes him a very happy little shit-stirrer. You’re so hot wearing all his clothes, (or, indeed, wearing replicas of them if his happen not to fit you), he might just decide to pin you down and kiss every inch of you.

Yes, he’s a demon. And a troublemaker. However, he’s also the Avatar of Woe. Being that he is that, he… has this strange kind of depression. His boredom and anguish and occasional apathy drive him to seek thrills, usually. Other times, though, the woe part overtakes him entirely. If he’s allowed himself to be vulnerable with you, there are times you’ll find him in bed, sobbing uncharacteristically, bunched up in the blankets and completely lost in sorrow. How you react will determine whether or not he lets you see that side of him ever again. As much of a front as he puts up, when the woe hits, all he really wants is to be held and comforted and know you’re there for him.

He’s kind of always touching you in some way, almost as if to stake his claim on you. If the two of you are out walking, he’s holding your hand. If you’re sitting around, he’s got an arm around your waist. He likes to have his hands on you, he likes to be touching and kissing and cuddling. In some ways he forgot what it was like to have a real romance with somebody, and apparently, he’s missed all those small, normal, soft touches. He’s making up for lost time and massive amounts of touch starvation, sue him!

10. What’s that one thing that inspired you to make drawing your consistant hobby?

CARTOONS!!!!!! …i think!

i don’t have a 100% accurate answer to this, because i’ve been drawing ever since i could hold a pencil! i genuinely don’t remember a time in my life where i wasn’t drawing in some way or form. it helps that i have a lot of artists in my family as well!

i would say cartoons are the biggest influence, since i grew up watching them ALL THE TIME! SpongeBob especially. i remember every time this commercial would come on, i’d run to the printer, grab some paper and a pen, and try to draw along with him (and i distinctly remember putting water on the paper during the segment where he cries because i wanted to see what would happen.) i think that’s when i began to realize that there were real people making these cartoons, and you could get paid to draw cartoon characters, and i just KNEW that was something i had to do.

i do know i was very interested in becoming a children’s book illustrator when i was in elementary school! books like A Bad Case of the Stripes or Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (this was before there was a movie of it!) were some of my absolute favorites that i’d consistently and obsessively check out at the school library. i really loved how creative and off the wall they were—you mean you can draw a girl with rainbow stripes??? you can draw giant pancakes hovering over a city? you can DO THAT?? it really blew my mind

cartoons were definitely my biggest influence though (and my mom concedes she possibly let me watch too much TV as a kid… but it worked since i work in TV animation now and draw for those same kids in my shoes!) and have only grown since! i’m lucky to have grown up in a creative environment and had adults foster my creativity. my kindergarten art teacher had recommended i join a county wide art contest when i was in 2nd grade, and i got second place! so i think that especially helped me realize that this was something important to me and something i could do. there were a lot of things i wasn’t particularly good at, but i always had drawing to rely on! now my entire life revolves around art in every way and i couldn’t be happier

Oh boy, that’s… that’s actually really hard for me. I have a hard time picking favorites, because I generally love things for very different reasons. I know much more clearly what I dislike when I see it; enjoying things is sorta my default state, y’know?

Like, take the AU question. I’d be hard pressed to tell you whether a good Reverse Robins setup was something I liked better than, say, @jube-art’s Superfam/Batfam role-swap (which, if you haven’t seen it, go check it out!)

I’m also working my way through canon chronologically, and am still in the early/mid-90s, so there’s a lot of characters I haven’t officially gotten to, and a lot of stories I haven’t gotten the chance to really dig into yet. (I made it to Knightfall, realized I hadn’t put any of the buildup to that arc in my comic library, and decided to go back and read Barbara’s time with the Suicide Squad instead.) I don’t feel comfortable planting a flag on this until… oh, at least until ~2006, probably. (Which, given just how many books/characters suddenly got added in the 90s, will probably take a while.)

(There are also lots of characters who have so much potential in their backstory/power set, but who never got to use them to their full potential. Or who only had the cool parts of their backstory tacked on as an obvious retcon in the process of writing them out of the story, because the fans were vocally upset about them, meaning they never got the exploration any of those story ideas deserved.) (I have a special level of ire for power sets that are really cool on a surface level, but where the creators added just one power too many to stop them from being fully interesting. For example, Menagerie’s bugs having mind control properties overcomplicates her too much, in my opinion. Or—if you’ll let me hop over to Marvel—a character like Alpha who has all the “standard” superpowers, but only one at a time? What makes that interesting is having to choose between being super-strong or invulnerable or super-fast (etc.) therefore this character should not have ranged attack options built into said power set; it disincentivizes him from ever getting up-close with enemies, forcing the writer to choose between having the character be stupid or having the character never use the interesting elements of their powers. (…I mean, Alpha being stupid is kinda the point of his plot, but you see what I’m getting at, right?))

I will say, I adored Jason’s post-Crisis Robin run (in both Batman series, though for very different reasons) and so far very little has brought me as much joy as reading DC’s Detective Comics from that time period! And those few pages of Dan Mora’s B&W cyberpunk short that went around recently had me absolutely frothing with excitement for the possibilities that verse holds. And Jason being Tim’s Robin brings me endless joy, which neither canon nor jerkfaces will take from me.

(Aaaaaaaand while shipping isn’t the catharsis I come to comics for (thank gods, basically every canon ship I’ve witnessed thus far has been awful in motion even when their potential is off the charts,) I can actually blame DCEU SuperBat for getting me into this whole mess in the first place. Blame @susiecarter, whose fics I found immediately after watching someone do a deep-dive analysis of everything that went wrong with BvS, which I paused when I thought, “Huh, these are actually all really good points… I bet fanfiction has done this exact story, but with much better execution, recognizable characterization, and probably a hell of a lot gayer. Let’s go check.”)

I was sitting with my rabbits, eating oatmeal, rocking, and singing a song about eating oatmeal for every meal (because I say it like it's bad, but at the same time, it's my food. I would like to have options, but I may as well go back to oatmeal anyway. I always do.)

Did you know supper is a late evening meal? It used to be used in Europe when people traditionally had two meals a day. Sometimes it even consisted of cold oats. But dinner is a looser term. It can refer to supper, or any large meal in the middle of the day.

Anyway, the song was to the tune of "Monsters In The Closet". This was a song on a record of the same name that I used to check out from the library constantly, to the point I may as well have owned it. It was for children suffering from anxiety, and it made scary things into something to laugh about.

Afterwards, I checked the mail, but none of my packages had come in yet. I ordered three new tobacco pipes for my collection. I have nearly seventy. I don't smoke - I just like them. One of the ones I'm expecting is a Missouri Merchaum corncob pipe. I have a few already, but I really like them. Did you know that Missouri Meerchaum created the first streamline corncob pipes, and is the oldest and most prolific manufacturer of tobacco pipes in the United States?

Anyway, I got a couple others too, because they looked cool. Then I read some articles about the history of Dr. Grabow pipes, because I got this very cool Dr. Grabow pipe with a metal stem. Did you know that the most popular material for tobacco pipe stems for a while was a type of plastic called Bakelite, but they stopped using it in the 40's because they found out it was toxic? It's so funny that I'm talking about stems and stimming at the same time. I'm stemming! Haha, I love puns!

Anyway, my insurance won't pay for me to be tested for neurodivergencies, and my therapist a couple years back said I can't be autistic or have ADHD because I make good eye contact, and act pretty normal in one-on-one conversations where she, never once, asked me what my favorite pipe is. (It's an antler stem Turkish hunting pipe, although my meerchaum dragon claw is a close second. Did you know a lot of North Amercians will say it's an eagles claw? If they're made in the US, I guess they probably are Eagles' claws. Anyway, the most popular meerschaum design is the sultan head. I only have one of those. They don't interest me much, but I bought it from a really nice lady in an antique shop.)

A little off subject, but I speaking of collections, I collect stuffed bunnies. I don't have as many as I have pipes, because they take up more space, and I'm very picky. Although I'm 42, I sleep with a stuffed bunny named Rununculus. That is the name of a beautiful flower that nobody ever uses. Rununculus is made of about seven different fabrics, so she has all kinds of textures. My favorite is the sort of wooly one on her little paws. I find it very calming. And I need something calming to sleep, or my thoughts will get me.

my verdict on ur playlist btw is that it is very solid and cohesive a+, but *just* to the left of my tastes, largely because a lot of it skews 70s/80s which just by nature of the beast lacks the bass i like (because it was mixed entirely different compared to modern music, which is better suited for sounding big when played digitally through smaller speakers. ive heard some of these bands on big sound systems and theyre MUCH more in line with my tastes then lmao)

Can I ask how you go about finding songs for character playlists? You are very good at playlists and I wish to know the secrets.

Ooh, this is a fun question!

I will say that step one is that I already have a fairly eclectic music library, which certainly helps, but I for sure still have something of a process I can share.

Usually I start by skimming through songs I already have saved -- my personal music library, my big list of favorites on Spotify, etc -- and pulling anything that feels like it has potential. I might give some songs a listen to see if I'm remembering the vibes or lyrics right, but it's very much the casual "throwing things at the wall" phase where I know I might toss songs that don't fit later.

I like to physically make a list of songs during the brainstorming phase, so I'll write down my favorite candidates from trawling my existing music. From there, I start thinking about where to find more songs that complement them. Usually this starts with me thinking about the genres/vibes of the songs and artists I've already pulled, and what other artists feel like they match, even if I don't have a song in mind. I'll make a short list of artists who I think might have something that would fit, and then I spend a while digging through their discographies. This usually yields at least a few more songs, and sometimes checking out one artist will remind me of another one (Spotify's radio and "Fans also like" features can be helpful for this too).

After that, I'll often start looking at other playlists. Occasionally that means dipping into other people's playlists for the same character, although more often than not that makes me decide there's songs I want to avoid, since I'm very committed to having my playlists be unique! What I'm more likely to do is something sort of silly and oblique, which is thinking about other characters that I feel like have something in common with the one I'm making the playlist for and looking up songs people have put on playlists for them. I'll also dip my toes into other non-fandom, non-character playlists -- ones that are on topics that feel connected to the character, or even just playlists that are focused on one of the genres I've identified I'm leaning towards. Sometimes I'll even outright google "songs on [x topic]" -- although I will say that's only ever been successful in specific, narrow contexts.

The other thing I'll say about playlists, which is less about finding songs although it does tend to help guide my searching, is that it really helps to brainstorm a vision for it -- What is the playlist about, and what do you want it to sound like? Are you focusing on a specific part of the character's arc, or their whole, completed narrative? Did you pull a lot of a specific genre in your brainstorming phase, or a bunch of different ones -- and are you going for songs that mostly sound similar, or trying to find a way to tie together ones that sound different?

As far as what that actually looks like for me, here's some examples.

When I was working on my Fjord playlist, I knew I wanted to include a decent number of actual shanties/sea songs (which was one area where googling "songs about x" actually served me well; I searched for lists of traditional shanties online and got some solid results). But I also noticed that I'd pulled out a decent bit of rock music. To blend the two I ended up trying to work in music by folk rock artists, like Skipinnish and the Derina Harvey Band, which helped with making the whole thing feel a lot more cohesive.

For my Raine Whispers playlist, I knew I was going to be smashing together a lot of genres. I focused on trying to find songs that felt like they "bridged the gap" (like Kenji Bunch's more modern quartet compositions, folk/protest tunes with prominent strings, and Flobots' modern rock/hip-hop featuring a prominent viola) and also thought a lot about the artists I was putting on it. I listened to a lot of curated playlists of trans and gnc artists, as well as classic protest music ones.

And for a last example, one of my current in-progress playlist projects is working on a Lilith Clawthorne playlist, which since she's a canonically aro/ace character has seen me listening to a lot of people's aspec playlists along with thinking about songs that feel like they complement her character arc, since I'm hoping to weave the two themes together!

I hope some of that is helpful to you! And know that I always love talking playlists and wouldn't mind throwing out song recs from time to time (as long as I have some idea what you're going for)

-it's supposed to snow sunday (fingers crossed!) (I'll believe it when I see it this year...) so I'm going to go grocery shopping tomorrow instead of my usual sunday trip, both so I don't have to go out in the snow AND I can get hot chocolate ingredients ☕️

-continue to use my extremely overpowered xbox to play Knights of the Old Republic. 🫣 Guys, I'm actually having a lot of fun. This was sort of a 'white whale' for me because it was the game I got so frustrated with back when it first came out that I stopped playing games entirely until 2020. Yes the graphics are extremely dated and the way you fight is kind of weird and the aspect ratio doesn't fit my TV, but I have 15 thousand save slots and it loads at the speed of lightning. And the story is really fun. Obviously since it's been 20 years, I know the ending, but I'm getting so emotionally attached to my little crew. This one's going to hurt lol.* I was originally going to wait for them to remake it but that project seems to have stalled out, and it was on sale for $4. So I'm tackling it now. 😤 I will get to the end this time (I’ve already beat my previous best of…45 minutes) (yup you can make fun of me for that others have)

[ *also, with all the conversation about canon term replacements and fitting in and canon vs fanon it's kind of fun to remember...it doesn't matter. everyone loves KOTOR and KOTOR doesn't give a fuck about keeping consistent to canon. If you're ever intimidated the list of word replacements going around, look at KOTOR and realize that it doesn't matter. just have fun. (this is a me @ me kind of situation but you all can hear it too, hope it helps) ]

-I'm not really at the point where I can set a definitive goal with writing but just like...write. Make some kind of progress on the third chapter of 'omens and all kinds of signs'. good enough!

As much as I love android arc/ cell saga, I think saiyan saga was definitely the one I rewatched the most both as a kid and now- you got the intro of a lot of new lore, gohan in the wilderness, and goku/vegeta fight! Even the anime filler is p much all good in this saga

12. How long have you been watching/reading the Dragon Ball series?

Since I was a little kid! :D my parents hated it and my grandma would only let me watch 1 show before i hadta go outside, so I'd hafta pick either DBZ or dragon ball (sometimes I could watch both without her noticing tho)

our city library also had some of the manga but I had to read those there- my mom only let us check out 'real' books. Also me and my friend learned the fusion dance and did it.. too often. god we were cringe 😅 (overly long explanation, I know, but I almost miss how hard it used to be to be for me to get dbz content) oh but- gonna add: I didn't really draw dbz stuff ever- not til just the last few years. Idk why

20. If you could hang out with one character, who would it be?

Imma actually go w yamcha. He seems chill, plus he'd totally be down for camping/hiking/bein outdoors
