he's the type of guy that would say "wear what you want, i can fight." period.

he loves to talk- a professional yapper, if you will- but you love it

he talks your ear off about his hobbies (gambling) and some stupid people he may have had to deal with that day

he's pretty nonchalant in general and doesn't try to stress a lot over trivial stuff which means fights wouldn't last long

i get kind of a vibe that he would smoke some herb from time to time but he wouldn't shove it in your face if you don't want him to

he would love to share a coffee with you in the morning, and would probably order you both breakfast

i feel like with dates he's totally going to go with the flow but he loves new things so there's always something for you guys to do together, whether it's movies, or clubs.

honestly if i were to guess, i think he would show his partner love by telling them. very directly.

He's not too much of a cuddler but he'll do it immediately upon your request

He has a dry sense of humor, so dry that no one really knows if it's a joke or not

i think he is more outwardly protective of you than most- so if he catches anyone staring he'll yell at them to 'fuck off!'

I also don't think he would hold his opinions back just to make people happy so if you ask, "how do you think i look in this?" he'll say exactly how he feels- not really in an a insulting way, ever-more truthfully than hurtfully.

he likes to do things that you enjoy, like shopping and he'll help you pick out outfits

he, himself, would probably suggest dates that are calm and intimate, like picnic dates, stargazing, and maybe going out for smoothies/boba

i feel like he would love to try boba after you tell him about it, because he likes sweet things over bitter (like coffee)

a/n - this is mostly inspired by my internal monologue while watching the show, ergo the reader is rooting for seo-jun (i'm biased sorry). also reader is ticklish. i know it's another kuroo one i'm sorry but this man is so ugh

1.14 am

‘That's fucking adorable! Fuckkkk, why is he so cute! Oh my god!’ 

You found yourself snuggled into Kuroo's side comfortably, with his arm draped over the back of the couch and a blanket shared between the two of you. 

‘What the fuck is cute about that?!’ He rolled his eyes at your reaction, his arm flailing around to emphasize his words.

‘He's making up rumors about them dating!’

‘Yeah because he likes her! He just doesn't know how to express his feelings, okay? He's traumatized.’ 

‘Everyone is traumatized, that's not an excuse. Plus, don't you always say it's best to be upfront about things?’

‘He is being upfront about it! She's just oblivious!’ 

'Like you would know.'

Kuroo turned his head to the side slightly so he could mumble a response, quietly enough so that you couldn't pick up on it.

‘What was that?’ 

‘Nothing. I just can't believe you're making excuses for that asshole.’ 

Hadn't it been for you being very deeply invested into the drama as well, you would definitely giggle at Kuroo's persistence.

But alas, that wasn't the case. 

‘That's because he has a bike and good fashion sense.’ 

Kuroo huffed. ‘What's with you and bikes?’

While stating your answer, you shifted your position slightly so you'd be more comfortable, and in addition, almost naturally, Kuroo's arm wrapped around your shoulder to pull you closer.

‘They're cool.’ You replied with a grin, to which Kuroo huffed again. ‘Oh and, I like his eyes too. They're similar to yours.’

Not thinking much of your words, you continued to watch the show unfold, head resting on Kuroo's chest. You had almost forgotten about what you said, but Kuroo finally broke the silence after a while.

‘You like my eyes?’  

Barely paying attention to the television, he now faced you fully, thankful to the darkness of the room for hiding his blush. 

‘Hm? Oh yeah.’ As you finally acknowledged the proximity when you lifted your head, you could feel a blush of your own starting to creep up on your neck.

‘They're really pretty.’ You added after not being able to look away from the golden hues for god knows which time.

With a small smile you went back to your initial position, pulling the blanket tighter around yourself whilst Kuroo tried his best to process the newly received information. 

2.01 am

‘No! No, you dumb fuck! Ugh!’ 

A loud groan echoed in the room before you covered your face with your hands in agony. Kuroo's hand was patting your back gently, though not very sincerely since he was wearing a satisfied expression as he watched the screen. 

‘There there.’ 

‘Fuck off, you like this!’ 

With a huff you untangled yourself from Kuroo's limbs, scooting all the way to the other end of the couch. 

‘I just think it works better!’ Kuroo himself raised his hands in defense, but his smile remained. 

‘Bullshit! He is clearly the better option! He treats her so much better!’ 

‘But they're already dating and she loves her boyfriend. Besides, nothing's wrong with him either.’

‘No it's not, but Seo-jun is simply better.’ 

‘You're just biased because he has a bike.’

‘I'm not! I mean yeah that's a plus, but not that important! He even gave her the keys, come on!’ 

‘Oh so if it were you, you'd dump Soo-ho?’

You immediately recognized the sly undertone in Kuroo's voice and huffed whilst you turned to face him.

‘That's not what I'm saying. And she shouldn't dump him. She shouldn't be with him in the first place. Ugh, this is why relationships are dumb.’

This seemed to get the man's attention, and he readjusted his position on the couch, now barely looking at the TV. 

‘You don't want a relationship?’ His tone became much softer than the previous question, which to you was a clear indicator that the conversation had suddenly become serious. 

You chose to write the change off as the late hour delirium. 

‘I mean…it's not that I don't want it, it's just like- not right now. I don't know. I mean if the person I like is - um - will be someone I can't imagine my life without, then I'd drop this…way of thinking.’

‘Oh.’ 

The one syllable Kuroo managed to get out had you turning your head towards him in confusion, only to be met with the sight of him mumbling something under his breath. 

Opting not to point it out at the moment, you tried to distract him instead. 

‘And you?’ His head shot up in an instant. ‘What's your take on relationships?’ 

Suddenly looking anywhere but you, Kuroo shifted uncomfortably in his seat, making you raise your eyebrows as a silent way of urging him to reply. 

‘Uh…I don't- well- that's a lot of work that I don't have time for. But I think they're…great.’ 

He mentally cursed himself for his choice of words. 

‘So…’ You began, a dangerously serious expression on your face. ‘...If you were to like someone that liked you back…what would you do?’ 

Patiently waiting for an answer, you hugged your knees to your chest and rested your cheek on top of them. Unable to formulate a reply, Kuroo blinked a couple of times before taking a deep breath and slowly letting the words leave his mouth. 

‘I suppose…I would ask them out.’ 

‘Oh? Good to know.’ Your eyes widened in surprise, and a teasing smile graced your features before you turned your attention back towards the television. 

On the contrary, Kuroo still sat frozen in place, eyes glued to your side profile. 

‘Wh- what do you mean good to know?! For what?!’ 

‘Shhhh, I'm watching my husband.’ 

‘Nuh uh. Explain.’

Your attempts to distract your friend proved futile and with a frustrated sigh you defended yourself.

‘There's nothing to explain!’

‘Yes there is.’

‘Not.’ 

‘y/n.’ 

‘Tetsuro.’ 

‘Oh so we're on Tetsuro now?’ 

The sudden change in Kuroo's tone was drastic enough to cause you to tense, not turning to face him for the sake of saving youtself from a heart attack. 

‘I- forget I said that.’ You blurted out once you finally mustered up the courage to look at him. As quickly as you said that you turned your head back around, failing to notice an idea flash across Kuroo's face. 

Shuffling sounds reached your ears but you paid them no mind, until you felt a pair of hands tickling your sides. On instinct you squealed and flinched away, but with the man's quick reflexes it made no difference. 

‘Wait wait- stop! Kuroo!’ You managed to get out between tears of laughter and uncontrollable shaking, much to Kuroo's entertainment. 

‘I'll stop when you explain yourself.’ The smile on his face kept growing by each passing moment whilst your cries became louder. 

‘I will! Just- stop- please!’ Your words were barely audible by this point, but Kuroo decided to be generous and simply flopped on top of you. 

With his ear right above your heart, he could feel the rapid thumps and the heavy breathing whilst you tried to calm down. 

It was once you finally managed to get your senses back that you became aware of your position, and so your heart rate remained quick as it was. 

‘Kuroo?’ 

‘Hm?’ 

‘What are you doing?’ 

‘Me? Nothing ~’ 

Even though it was hard to see, you could practically feel the smile on his face growing. However, not minding the situation much, your hands threaded through his hair curiously and in return Kuroo became more at ease. 

3.46 am

‘Kuroo.’ 

‘I'm sleeping.’ 

‘Then go to bed.’ 

‘Just one more episode.’ 

The drowsiness started enveloping him progressively, yet he made no effort to acknowledge it - and neither did you.

"Huh? Y/N, what are you doing here on a friday?" Seonghwa asks, surprised to see you standing at their front door.

"How's Sannie?" You ask

"Ahhh...." he chuckles. "He's in his room... acting like a baby." He moves yo the side, gesturing you to come in. "He already ate. Mingi cooked him a soup dish to make him feel a bit better."

"Does he have a fever?"

Seonghwa shakes his head, "He's a lot much better now. He has been deligent taking his medicines, drinking water and eating well."

You sigh a big relief. "Thank goodness..."

"He just finished showering and going back to bed to watch a movie... he is basically okay now actually.. so I'm not sure why he asked you to come?" Seonghwa says scratching his head.

"What else? San probably wants some cuddles from Y/N...and get babied even more." Mingi says as he comes out of his room. "He even asked for a hug from me yesterday when I gave him his food..." he chuckles remembering how San acts.

"Probably..." you agree.

"If you two get hungry... There is food in the fridge. I cooked something for lunch earlier... just heat it up." Mingi says as he ties his shoes. "Imma go to the studio... so..."

"Be safe... you and manager." Seonghwa says

You waited for Seonghwa to totally shut his door before you march towards the opposite direction, where San's room is.

"San?" You call as you knock lightly.

"Sannie...?" You twist the doorknob and slowly push it open. "Sannie??" You whisper while your head is slightly tilted to take a peek if he's there. "Hmm... maybe he's asleep..."

You slide one foot first and then the rest follows. You are very cautious, trying your very best to not make any loud noise that could wake your boyfriend.

Scanning the whole room, you see that the room looks okay, nothing to clean so far. The TV is on but with a very low volumn that you barely hear it.

'He must've forgot to turn it off or probably fell asleep without him noticing' you say to yourself as you carefully walk further more in and look for the remote to turn it off.

"What are you doing?"

You screach a bit loud the second you hear someone talk just as you turned off the TV, making the room completely dark.

"I've missed you."

It's San.

"Fuck! You scared me!" You're heart is beating out of your chest.

"I can feel it..." he sounds amused by you getting scared. "You're heart is beating so fast..." he have you in his embrace from your back. "Sorry if I scared you... I was just waiting for you to get close..." he sniffs you by the neck. "I didn't thought that you'll turn off the TV..."

"Well... me too...I didn't noticed that your mini light weren't open... now it's completely dark."

"Just turn on the TV again so we can see..." he snuggles onto you more while he wrap his arm around your torse. "You're wearing a blouse?" He asks as he let his hands feel your top.

"I came straight from work..." you say. "I was so worried about you when I read your message..."

"Sorry if I got you worried..." his slides two of his fingers between the gap of your buttoned up blouse. "Mingi and Seonghwa took care of me well... but the reason why I did texted you still is  because.. I miss you..." his fingers gently touches your breast. "I miss you so bad." "I'm free tomorrow and on sunday..." he hums, brushing his lips all over your exposed neck. "Stay with me..." he breathe the words as he turns your head towards him so he could kiss you. "Your lipgloss... taste like cherry..." you could hear him smile as he pulls away from the kiss

"You do?" He suddenly lets you go

"Hey!" You try to catch on and grab him as he moves away but you lost balance and fell off the bed. "Aw!!" Your knee hit the frame of the bed.

"Baby!" San panics and hurriesly switches on the soft light from the side of his bed.

You are wearing a black skirt with a slit on the side. And the expose knee hit the edge of the bed real hard.

"Does it hurt?"

"Yeah..." you are holding on to your knee. "It will be fine... though I'm sure I'll get a bruise..."

"Baby... I'm sorry." San grabs your face and kisses you on the lips and then on both cheeks.

A smile spreads across his lips and his cute dimple showing. "Please... stay..." Then he goes to kiss you again making you smile.

"But they already did..."

man… i’m ngl he’d just kiss you. not in a sensual way at all he’s not trying to take it anywhere but it’s just to distract you or make you stop talking. he loves listening to you talk don’t get him wrong, but you tend to talk a lot when you can’t sleep and the words aren’t always the most understandable. kissing junghwan would busy your brain so much that all you can think of is him and he knows this. plus he thinks it’s so cute how extra flustered you get when you’re tired. he could keep kissing you for hours without getting bored, trust him.

he’ll make you food, whether you say you’re hungry or not. most of the time it’s ramen or something quick and easy. the smell of the food always lures you into having some, but on the rare occasion that you really don’t want to eat anything, dohoon will finish it himself. he definitely won’t leave your side or just let you be awake by yourself unless you want it. he might even go outside on a walk with you or to a convenience store to get a sweet treat or drink. little things to get your mind off of stressful topics is exactly what you need, and dohoon accomplishes that better than anyone.

he’d read you to sleep omg :( he always has book recommendations and his voice is so soothing and soft it’s like its own lullaby even though he’s not singing. you get really invested in the story since he read you a couple chapters, so whenever you can’t sleep again he’ll pull out the book again. you probably go through several books with you over the months. sometimes he’s too tired to read to you, so you have to just cuddle with him instead </3 listening to his steady breathing and heartbeat will eventually lull you to sleep as well.

insomnia means more kdramas to watch as far as hanjin is concerned. he’d feel so betrayed if you had started watching anything without him cause you couldn’t sleep. he’d rather you wake him up than watch without him dkdjsks <//3 so you get all cuddled up and put on one of the more relaxing dramas like one of those small town romance ones. playing with hanjin’s hair while you watch probably means he’ll fall asleep before you do, but most often you fall asleep almost at the same time. you wake up in the most uncomfortable position— hanjin all tangled on top of you.

oh boy if anything he’s gonna make it worse for you to fall asleep… when he hears that you can’t sleep all tiredness practically leaves his body and he gets a second wind like no other. he’s hyper, maybe extra hyper cause he was tired before. he’d put on music and dance with you or just yap your ear off… but it does actually help tire you out, especially the dancing. you might get noise complaints from the other members or your neighbours about the music and singing, but jihoon doesn’t really care lmao.

so i started watching the kdrama "a good day to be a dog" recently and the ml makes me think of nanami so much it's not even funny. this fic is based on the plot!!

It's been about 5 months since your last breakup. You didn't really care for that ex, if you're honest. He immediately dumped you after you told him that kissing is off the table.

You could say that you are a bit unlucky when it comes to relationships and that's mostly because of that dastardly curse.

For as long as you can remember, your mom has been warning you to never ever let someone kiss you and to never kiss anyone, ever.

Otherwise you would end up like your cousin, doomed to live as a dog for the rest of his now shortened life.

It's his fault he got drunk and kissed a random girl, couldn't track her down in 100 days and didn't break the curse. But it was a pretty scary reminder of your family's curse.

Life moves on without waiting for you and there's no time to worry about your unfortunate love life in this society.

Today is another completely normal day at work. You walk to the school, greeting students along the way. The kids look awfully excited to go to school when it isn't exam season.

Youth must be fun. Especially sneaking around with your high school sweetheart.

While walking to your classroom, you run into your favourite co-worker, Gojo Satoru.

"Good morning!" He greets you smoothly, flashing you that perfect smile of his. You greet him back, always excited to see him.

"Are you free tonight? Because me and some other teachers are going drinking. Wanna come?" He asked you, and you nodded immediately. Of course you're going drinking with Gojo (and company). You could never refuse!

"Great! I'll send you the adress!" He waved you bye with a cheeky smile, going in his classroom to do homeroom.

Oh, right, you should probably be getting to that too. You can't set a bad example for your class by being late to homeroom.

You walk past the classroom where Nanami teaches and you have no idea why, but you stopped in your tracks to look at him a little.

You're not sure why, but he doesn't seem to like you at all. He always seems a bit distant and uncomfortable around you.

It kind of makes you sad. And it doesn't help at all that you constantly have to read notes about how hot he is after you confiscate them from your students.

What is up with this school and attractive teachers, anyways? Your students just barely got over Gojo and now they're thirsting over Nanami. Not that you can blame them.

You continue on, opening the door to your classroom. "Good morning!"

"Good morning, teacher!" The students shout back.

When you get to the meeting spot, Shoko is already waiting there. She greets you calmly.

"Hi. Uhhh..." you don't know where to go from here. It's kind of awkward just standing around and waiting for the others to arrive.

"You like Satoru, don't you?" Shoko asks suddenly, smiling at you.

"Huh?! How did you know?!"

"It's... obvious. But today's your chance. He's in a good mood when he gets drunk, you could attempt something." Shoko raised her brows.

Well, there isn't much to attempt if you can't kiss. Will a kiss-less confession work?

"Hello~" Gojo interrupted you just as you were about to answer Shoko and you jumped a little in surprise.

Nanami was standing next to him. Oh, so he invited him, too... You have a feeling this is going to get a little awkward.

While the lot of you headed to the bar, Shoko walked next to Gojo, talking to him about various things you didn't really care about.

That meant you were walking next to Nanami... in painfully awkward silence. Yikes.

"How was your day?" You asked with a painfully forced smile.

"It was fine." He answered simply, not even trying to continue the conversation. Right, you should just be quiet.

There's no use in getting buddy buddy with Nanami.

"Let's dig in!" Gojo grabbed the meat happily while Shoko and Nanami both immediately grabbed the bottle.

Eager to drink, aren't they...

Shoko nudged you gently. "Just wait till he gets drunk and then go in for the kiss. He likes them bold." She whispered.

You smiled and nodded awkwardly, unable to tell her why that's impossible for you.

You had loads of fun from there on out and all of you got atleast a little drunk. Turns out Shoko is more of a party animal than she lets on. Maybe you were wrong, this little get-together isn't awkward at all!

"I need some air, excuse me." Nanami bowed slightly, getting up and walking outside. Still as monotone and polite as ever when drunk, you suppose.

After about 10 minutes, Gojo's phone rang and he drunkenly excused himself to answer the call. If you weren't drunk as hell too, you would be worried about how the call will go. I mean, I doubt a professional call can go well when the other person keeps giggling and talking nonsense.

"Just goooo for itttt~" Shoko encouraged you after Gojo left your fields of vision, drunk out of her mind. To be fair, you weren't any less drunk right now, so you weren't thinking straight at all. You got up and ran off after Gojo. Who cares about a stupid phone call, you've got a man to kiss!

And there he is, on the corner behind the bar! You'd recognise that greyish blue jacket from a mile away! You cling onto him, giggling happily and he seems to call out to you.

"I love youuuu...." you slurred out, squinting your eyes at his face. Man, it's hard to see his face in the dark and with blurry vision to boot. No matter, you still know the general area of the lips.

"I wanna date youuuu.... and you should be my boyfriendddd..." you grabbed his cheeks and faintly heard his voice again. You can't make out anything he's saying right now. It's like a weird trance that your drunken determination put you in.

You pressed your lips to his, sighing. It's a weird feeling for sure, but not all that bad! Ahhh, this all feels like a dream! After a long long time, you finally got to kiss someone. And it's Gojo Satoru no less!

"What the f.... Nanamin?!"

Wait.

A shiver ran all the way from your toes to the top of your head. You looked at the direction of the voice. It's.... Gojo?! That's definitely Gojo, standing to your right and looking really surprised. But, then...

You looked back at the person who's cheeks you're currently holding to find... brown eyes staring at you. No way.

Now that you think about it, both Gojo and Nanami are wearing a greyish blue jacket. Oh no... Oh no no no no.

You sobered up almost instantly which was an out of body experience, one that you've never experienced before. Not only did you kiss the wrong guy in your drunken state, the curse also completely slipped your mind. Is it almost midnight already?! How are you going to explain this tommorow?! Why did it have to be Nanami?!

There's no time to panic, you have to get OUT OF HERE. STAT.

"I am so so so sorry!" you gently push Nanami away, running off and accidentally pushing Gojo slightly which made him stumble.

"Wait, why are you leaving already?!" Gojo called out after you but you ignored him. You have to get home to your family. Then you're safe. All you have to do is make it there before midnight or you'll turn into a dog.

Oh jeez... this innocent night which was supposed to go your way ended up becoming a nightmare.

Now you have to get Nanami of all people to kiss you while you're a freaking dog.

Still, kissing him didn't feel all that bad...

Some of the criticism of the show is valid and some of it is just...people lacking any sort of nuance or comprehension skills.

1) "They are stupid and irresponsible for being together in the public". Yes, but also the public doesn't know ji han is a chaebol and ah jeung is a no name actress. The public also doesn't know who Dohan's financee is. Only the wedding has been announced. It's not surprising at all that the two dumbasses thought they could be together without being seen. Ji han has no reason to believe his step siblings would send a reporter after him knowing it's Dohan's position they are after. Something so obvious shouldn't be have to be spelled out by the writers for you lot.

2) "How could that bitxh Ah jeong have the audacity to have feelings that don't revolve around Dohan? She should have continued being miserable and uncomfortable because it is only Dohan's safety and comfort that matters." No woman should put herself through so much pain for another man not even for her gay best friend. If you want to watch women make decisions centered around their relationship with a man then plenty of shitty BLS and works by incels with one dimensional fl characters exist.

3) Dohan, ji ahn and ah jeong are flawed human beings. None of their mistakes deprive them of their humanity and their right to love and be loved.

4) kdrama viewers have a meltdown every time a character makes decisions that are not the most ethically, culturally or rationally correct. It's not bad writing if a character makes a terrible choice CONSISTENT with their character.

5) But the outrage is always more loud for a FEMALE character every single fucking time. Like clockwork. Not only are you guys consistently boring with the demand for characters to stay conventional but also consistently MISOGYNISTIC.

6) Both ji han and ah jeong fought their feelings for each other before finally giving in. It wasn't immediate. They both are clearly guilty. Both of them wanted to talk to Dohan about this. He was the first person they wanted to talk to. He was on their minds on the date too.They only went out together as a couple to a STRANGE PLACE for ONE DAY where they thought they would be safe. Why are people acting like they have been hiding their relationship for ages? They didn't even get the chance to be public yet. NO, THEM ROAMING IN A STRANGE PLACE DOESN'T COUNT AS PUBLIC BECUASE NO ONE AROUND THEM KNOWS.

7) MEDIA SHOULD NEVER CATER TO YOUR MORALES OR FEELINGS. This world consists of average people who make horrible choices and who hurt themselves and others. I like watching them on screen. Hope more kdramas are courageous enough to experiment with genuine character flaws that aren't just being 'quirky' or a 'tsundere'.

8) None of the characters one this show are 'morally dubious or gray'. They just are people with flaws. Idk maybe read a book or two or watch peaky blinders.

SPOILERS. ALL of my thoughts while watching love next door ep 9 (i don't think i've done this since crash course in romance)

every time i see a new love next door episode is longer than the last one, i feel more alive. let's feast.

in most (almost all) kdramas i've watched till date, they don't really show intimacy between an ex-couple, especially no kissing (marry my husband is a recent example). even in flashbacks. love next door at least has some physical affection which is nice to see. seokryu really seemed happy with hyeonjun in the past.

seunghyo being all chivalrous is indeed weird to witness, but i guess he's trying. also the car he drives is ugly af (i guess i'm chatty today 😂).

god, the loneliness of being in another country and not being able to tell your parents about your health issues.

at least seunghyo is still a bit objective even when he's jealous. jung mo-eum, ily you're a great wingman. your love story is gonna be fun.

the child actors are so good. (the last time i was so happy with child actors was in the good bad mother). AARRGHHH. his mother is always away from him and seokryu is always by his side all through his childhood. and now when his feelings for seokryu are making him sick, he sees his mother. OH now seokryu's there too. both women the bane of his existence at different points in his life.

aww my lovely mo-eum being so awkward lmao. every interaction between her and kang danho makes me happy.

*My Spanish italki teacher gave me some good advice for studying using podcasts that I can't wait to try out. She said it'll be useful for our next lesson so I can come prepared with something to speak about. Not to sure how I feel about continuing lessons with her but I'll give it a couple more tries and see how it goes. I do like her, but I don't know if it'll be the out helpful with the way she runs our lessons.

I will start posting monthly goals for my languages starting in August! I think it'll help me guide my studies a bit and help me check my progress.

I know a majority of people are annoyed with episode 8 of Love Next Door, which - fair, if you are used to watching KDramas and their version of RomCom (I would be too).

But

I think that writers are trying to mislead with that preview.

Let's talk about the major point of contention - stomach cancer.

I, personally, think that there were plenty of hints towards this topic since episode 1 and it genuinely does make sense to me. Bae Seok-Ryu's weight-loss which was highlighted, then her talks about eating well and healthy. Also the one year break that she took from work, to name a few. Put together, it all does make sense.

She kept on working hard while in US, while also dealing with workplace harassment, burnout from work, stress, her family's expectation as well as her own so as to not stress out the family. Dealing with all of this for one year straight is enough to make someone physically sick, going through that for over 5 years can be the reason for the cancer. Because let's face it, regardless of how much one loves to cook, you do not get to have the healthiest lifestyle while also working, or rather overworking, as was her case. Add to that, everything else on her plate and we have a sick person.

Now onto the second point - Relapse of cancer.

I don't think that is what's going to happen. The show loves to give us misleading previews. Exhibit A - the preview for episode 5, wherein they tried to show as if Seok-Ryu's father was cheating. The scare of her dying or cancer relapsing is likely just that - a scare. Stress is a well-known factor for experiencing debilitating pain if you have already undergone gastrectomy and Seok-Ryu's life has been nothing but stress between the reappearance from her ex-fiance and her parents. It's more likely that she would be told to take it easy stress-wise and eat more healthy and take her vitamins and all more regularly.

Lastly - Not telling anyone about Cancer

Well, while well-intended, it was a poorly made choice by Seok-Ryu, one that i can't find in myself to begrudge her for. Seok-Ryu loves her parents and also knows that they love her deeply but that doesn't mean she doesn't see the difference in how they treat her brother and her. What this means is that she would end up thinking of herself as a burden unconsciously, and not wanting then to worry about anything in her life when they already have so much going on. Same with Mo-Eum and Seung-Hyo. She thinks world of them but also that they already have so much going on in their life that they have to worry about, why tell them about something that's treatable. Is she right in her opinion - absolutely not, because everyone will be even more devastated now than if she had told them earlier since they would feel as if they never even gave her the space to come to them with her problems. But is it something that makes sense in her overworked and always successful independent elder daughter mindset? Absolutely.

Anticipating the LITBC Adaptations

One of the questions @bengiyo asked us this week is what parts of the book we are most looking forward to seeing in the upcoming film and drama adaptations. I had a good convo with @doyou000me and @stuffnonsenseandotherthings in the comments here, and I wanted to talk a bit about why I am excited for these adaptations.

Most folks who watch a lot of South Korean media know that there is precious little LGBTQ+ representation in Korean dramas and film. In mainstream kdrama, we are lucky if we get a queer side character a couple times a year, and it's even more rare for those characters to get a romantic partner (but not unheard of, see Be Melodramatic my beloved). There has been a big uptick in Korean bl production over the last few years, but most of those projects are underfunded and fly under the radar (with notable exceptions like Semantic Error, The Eighth Sense, and Love for Love's Sake). So it is a very big deal to me to see two mainstream adaptations of Love in the Big City, a story that is undeniably centered on a queer lived experience.

Let's talk about the film first. When I first saw the announcement that we would get a film adaptation starring Kim Go Eun, Steve Noh, and Kang Ha Neul, I was ecstatic. These are huge names in Korean media, drama headliners and movie stars. Now, does the choice to focus only on part 1 and center the story on Jaehee mean this project likely won't feel fully rooted in Young's queer perspective? Absolutely, we should recognize that and manage our expectations accordingly. But there will be a mainstream film about the relationship between a woman and a gay man living together, and that is already a very big deal for South Korea. We have to look at this project from the context of Korean social politics and recognize that it signifies progress. And I am still hopeful that Young will feel like a fully realized character, even if we are unlikely to see the full extent of his depth and complexity represented in this film.

And that is where the drama comes in. Sang Young Park himself is the screenwriter for this adaptation, and based on the production photos @my-rose-tinted-glasses shared here, we are getting all four parts of the story in this version. The cast here is not as famous as the film headliners, but they are recognizable, solid actors who have had main roles in other dramas. I don't know how these two projects came to be made at the same time, so I can only say that having them premiere around the same time is genius, whether by intention or happenstance. Because I can easily imagine that people who are exposed to this story for the first time via the film might then go check out the drama, where they will see a much fuller picture of Young's life and an authentic queer experience. @archiveofmystuff shared that there has been some reporting about the long process to secure funding for this full novel adaptation, and I'm not surprised it was difficult. But with Sang Young Park attached I feel confident that we will get a solid version of this story, even if it can't get quite as explicit about all the gory details as the novel did. I can't wait to see Young, Jaehee, Umma, Hyung, and Gyu-ho on my screen, and I'll be so curious to see how he structures the show to fit the four parts of his novel into eight 50-minute episodes. There are so many exciting possibilities and I am feeling optimistic.

TL; DR: it's a big deal that these adaptations are being made, and it will surely result in more people seeing Young's story. It's a signal of positive progress in the Korean media landscape, and I welcome it.

♡ It's about struggle. Wether it's for your grades or for addiction. Or to prove something.

♡ It's about justice. There's a famous quote I don't think I'll ever get over it but the quote starts at the beginning of the story, with an answer.

It's the beginning of judgment by the law with scales and a sword. Is the law truly righteous?

And the quote is meant to keep you watching. For you as a viewer to decide for yourself. By the end of the series, it ends up finishing the quote solved. Pay attention.

♡ Gorgeous Intro~~ I don't think I have ever skipped it.

♡ It's about self development. And self achievement. Nothing in life is easy. That doesn't mean you should give up.

♡ it's about bullying

♡ About sexual harassment

♡ The acting is insanely good

♡ Well rounded characters. Every single one of them. Their arcs, the way the change. The exposition and the time they have to show it to you. To win your heart. They suffer and win or lose. It's just gorgeous. Simply touching.

♡ The plot keeps you on your toes. You have to look at the dates to understand how the events happened. Devil is in the details~~ pay attention!!

♡ It's about feminism. Say whatever you want. But I was so ready to punch those bad guys but instead the law brings them to justice. If i told you I cried with them so much?

but they made me feel so proud too. I was literally screaming, crying and rooting for all of them. All the way. And especially for her. Seriously.

♡ They do make you feel like, you can do it too. This series is my go to whenever I'm feeling lazy, or depressed.

♡ It's about friendship~ and some implied but nothing too spectacular, romance. Place your bets, choose your team~ go and watch it!! because I need more people talking about this serie. I need fans to interact with 😭💖 pretty please?

So my memory is also terrible. A lot of the times I forget quotes really quickly. But I was thinking about this and going through the rolodex in my brain, and realized that I do remember lines from shows, but usually they aren't significant by themselves. Like for me it's a quote that brings me straight into the show again, like I'm seeing in my head and it's invoking the same feelings that I felt during the show. (also there's also the language thing, where I'm not always sure if I know exactly what they're saying so I'm always afraid of giving it weight for some reason)

Like for example. If I'm thinking of WDYEY, I think of onions, and chicken thighs. Specifically "I think I should use two chicken thighs", as said by Shiro. Because it makes me remember them instantly, and have the same feeling I had when I watched. Also lot of the times I think of bits of dialogue and not necessarily lines by itself. Like for instance in ULS when Hotae is talking to Donghee while cleaning and he says a bunch of things ending with something like "But that's all bullshit. Because when you can't endure something, then you just can't endure it."

So I don't know if these will help you, because although I think I could maybe put them on my wall or something, and it would be meaningful to me, I don't know if it would be the same for you.

Hi, I am pretty new to the Shameless/gallavich Fandom but first I LOVE YOUR FICS

Second, I've read some of your meta and I don't know about soaps but novelas and kdramas under my belt, I agree the come and go of Noel probably saved them from drama in later seasons, they probably have had them broke at one point also, they refused to make Mickey a principal, but one of my fav parts of s4 is that he finally gets his own arc (pimp and all that apart) and I'd have loved to see him explored outside his relationship with Ian

First of all, thank you.

Second: Novelas, kdramas (I have watched my share of t-dramas -- Devil Besides Me and Meteor Garden forever), Shondaland -- they will all give you the gist of that soap experience. My feeling is that we'd get a season six where both Mickey and Ian sort of struggle to figure out their adult lives -- and that's probably a decent enough story. They likely marry them in season seven. And then they spent seasons 8-11 (or however many seasons they get to keep them) messing them up. Not because Shameless burns plot the way soaps and novelas do, but because 11 seasons is a lot. And at some point they will decide they need conflict for Gallavich and that conflict will be in the era of Gay Jesus-type writing and I'm confident we'd have been very upset by it.

I will say I don't think they so much refused to make Mickey a principle as they didn't know for sure what they wanted to do with American Mickey or where he fit into their pretty full roster. Like, there was always a chance for him, since I believe his British counterpart sticks around, but he's not filling the same role that US Shameless Mickey does. Also, shows has a budget and I can completely see how they might not have had the money for him until season three.

In season five, Cam and Noel did an interview with Buzzfeed where the EP, Etan Frankel, talks about how Mickey turned into the character he'd become at that stage, and it's clear that they don't quite know where they're going with him, and then once they shoot 1x7 they know they've got something interesting to pursue. There are a lot of moving factors in making use of that, though, including Cam's age and how ian's character balances out with his siblings in terms of storyline. Gallavich get one of the most dramatic moments of the entire series in season three and I think that's really when they shift into being primaries on the show. More and more, they start to drive fan engagement online and that sets up season four where, absolutely, Mickey vaults ahead in terms of how much the show is paying to his inner life.

Part of that is because Cam is off filming The Giver, so he's not around for half the season, but I think the other part is what Etan is talking about in the Buzzfeed article -- they just know Noel can deliver. I particularly always think about this quote, in regards to both Noel and Cam as individual performers, but also when I think about their creative partnership:

As a writer, you feel secure writing a scene knowing they're going to knock it out of the park and they'll find things you didn't necessarily intend, so you find beautiful moments. It's exciting to see those dailies come back and saying, Oh wow, that wasn't even a moment in the script, but they've made it become a moment.

I know this is why we get so much Mickey in the first half of season 4. Not just that he needs to carry the torch for Gallavich by himself but because the writer's room knows they can give him that scene with the picture in the bathroom and the performance will convey how much Mickey misses Ian. This is also clearly when he essentially becomes a point-of-view character -- and he continues to be until he leaves the show in season six. So many key moments in those two seasons, particularly around Ian's illness, rely on the audience seeing Mickey's reactions and moments of realization. His confusion in 4x12. His reaction to the suitcases. His meltdown after Ian is hospitalized, where virtually his entire reaction is silent across two episodes. It's really great that they trusted him to do that. It's one of the reasons I think the story works so well.

Anyway. I find it a little jarring, when Mickey comes back, that he isn't quite the POV character he was. It improves in season 11 and we get more Mickey-centred storylines. But I feel consistently (particularly in the late seasons when I'm really not that invested in the rest of the story) that there was a lot more room to use Mickey the way they used to. But by then, it's a different kind of show.

it just took him forever to realize bc he was too caught up in making sure mc didn’t get themselves killed

always went easy on them whenever they got in trouble

pushed his pride to the side *shockingly* whenever they got hurt

would be one of the first to help them whenever they needed anything and gave in to everything they asked for with no prompting

realized how down bad he was after they studied together one night, he fell asleep at his desk and they brought a blanket over and put a pillow under his head so he'd be more comfortable

woke up with hot coffee, breakfast, and a note telling him to take better care of himself with the bed half made, he realized mc stayed in the room with him the whole night

connected the dots right before he made a pact with them in lesson 20 (?) and confessed to them after they [redacted]

mc always saw through his stuck up act, sympathized with him once they realized he genuinely cared about their well being

started spending more time with him after the lesson 16 incident

he forbade them from going to school until they fully recovered from everything that happened, insisted on walking them to school every day

the stereotypical kdrama tripping and falling into the person's arms while they walked to school

they confessed after the whole pact situation right before they left the devildom

he noticed little changes in their demeanor and always did his best to cheer them up if something was wrong

not exactly a love at first sight thing, but real close to it

quite literally broke down in their arms the day before they left the devildom

all his brothers picked up on it and teased him relentlessly, he had to talk to lucifer to even build up the courage to confess

and even then it took him until the night before they left

mc was oblivious as hell to his feelings which is crazy bc he did nothing to hide them

they saw through his tsundere act and warmed up to him the fastest

honestly they fell not long after he did but they didn't wanna say anything out of fear of ruining their friendship

the lesson 16 incident shook him up so badly that he clung to them for weeks after it, he didn't let belphie anywhere near them even after apologizing

yelled at the brothers whenever they talked shit and called him names, they almost always went too far and it always got to him

after they went back to the human realm, he skipped class and dealt with being strung up by luci just to see them

he'd invite them over to game with him and watch anime at ungodly hours of the night

they're awful at videogames so he'd let them win just to see them get all excited

don't tell his brothers that though

when they slept over, they made sure he got out of his habit of oversleeping so he could avoid lectures

helped him with his anxiety since they also dealt with it

with mc, they empathized with his anxiety/depression and spent as much time with him as possible whenever he had his episodes

saw how much he cared for his brothers and his pet(s) and, eventually, how much he cared about them

they opened up to him about their insecurities and he did his best to reassure and relate to them so they felt less alone

they confessed to him first bc of mammon's encouragement, he knew his brother wouldn't be able to do it without prompting

they did it a few weeks before they left the devildom so they'd have time together

after the lesson 16 incident, he'd always go to their room with manga or a console to try to take their mind off of what happened

every time they went out together, he'd be in his demon form and have his tail wrapped around either their ankle or their wrist/hand subconsciously

they were so much less powerful and more fragile in comparison to him, but that didn't deter them from wanting to get close to him

in true tsundere fashion, he tried pushing them away once he realized his feelings

that didn't work and they tried spending more time with him to see why he started acting weird

THEN they ended up falling for him

how he acted like he didn't care for his brothers but went out if his way to make sure they were ok

how he was able to be vulnerable with them about his insecurities and self hatred bc of his birth

how they got to see his soft side with belphie and cats

his reaction to the lesson 16 incident also pushed them over the edge

his entire angry demeanor crumbled, he always had new book recs and brought them cats when he had to go to school si they wouldn't be alone

they confessed first, but it was right before they left bc they were too scared of rejection

mc never fell for his "me, me, me" attitude and got him to open up easily

they found themself gravitating towards his room whenever they needed a pick me up, he'd always be down to give them a spa day

despite his sin, he never overstepped with the sexual jokes and advances

it starred off as a tiny crush, but mc realized it was more than that after a really bad day for asmo, they got to take care of him the way he took care of them

asmo was head over heels after that, never left their side

he stopped trying to act like he wasn't insecure about his position in the devildom or his looks, he was more comfortable opening up about his struggles

even tho mc fell first, asmo confessed like a month before they had to leave the devildom

the lesson 16 incident had him clinging to them 100 times more than he had before, lucifer had to pry him away from them so he could go to school

the day they left the devildom was full of tears

he has such a big heart and he's trusting of everyone, his openness helped mc become more comfortable around him

he only gets angry in regards to his sin or his family, and he considered mc family very early on

they'd start packing extra snacks in their bookbag when they knew they had classes with him, and id they weren't in school, they'd have them in their pockets

after a really stressful day, mc went to beel for consolation, and he dragged them to the kitchen after wrapping them up in one of belphies weighted blankets to try and fix them a beel-sized meal to make them feel better

seeing how easily he'd drop everything to make sure they were ok

seeing how gentle he was with them despite his size and strength

seeing how happy he looked when talking about his family

him allowing himself to be vulnerable about belphie and lilith

all of it boiled over when he cooked for them, they confessed on the spot

he was caught off guard, but realized after some thinking that he felt the same and didn't realize it

they moved slowly, and while beel navigated his feelings for them, he realized how much he cared about them

giving them extra servings when it was his turn to cook, and when it wasnt, he'd slide some of his food onto their plate

going to their room to talk if he had a nightmare about the celestial war

asking satan and luci what the best ways to deal with anxiety were

making sure they drank enough water

and after the lesson 16 incident, his feelings were all over the place

he was angry at himself, angry at lucifer, angry at belphie, but never angry at mc

he didn't want to be angry with belphie, but once mc (reluctantly) forgave him, he and belphies relationship was fixed

they spent their last days in the devildom together going to all of his favorite restaurants and food trucks

belphie did both.

he hated the human. he hated all humans. he had to, for lilith.

he manipulated them, lied to them, betrayed their trust, he KILLED them

so why did he feel so guilty about it?

why did he find himself gravitating towards their room every day before school, waking up early just to peek through the crack in their door to see how they were doing, disobeying lucifer's direct orders?

why did every flinch of theirs leave him with a gaping hole in his chest?

no matter how many times he apologized, he never felt like he truly deserved forgiveness

but they were so kind, so understanding, so infuriatingly sweet to him despite everything he did

he loved them, and he do everything in his power to show it, even if they never felt the same

mc saw how much he was hurting, they saw how much his actions affected him, how he was trying to be a better person

the brothers would understand if they never forgave him, but why did they feel inclined to?

they were never really asleep when he snuck by their room to check on them, he had to have known that

his brothers spoiled him the way he spoiled them

after learning to navigate their friendship, mc realized what they felt was deeper than whatever platonic feelings they thought they had

they were in the attic, belphie ranting about one of his anti-lucifer-league schemes failing, and they kissed him

they spent their remaining weeks in the devildom attached to his hip, much to the brothers' disdain, but they couldn't hide how relieved they were at his sudden change of heart towards humans
