having a really bad doctor or nurse is so uniquely soul crushing, but similarly having an exceptionally good doctor or nurse restores your faith in humanity like nothing else

#i had a surgery over the summer and my surgeon was really good about me being trans #he noticed that my preferred name wasn’t in their system and when i said it was no big deal he was like actually it is a big deal i want our #trans patients to feel respected #and then my preferred name was on all of my paperwork 🤩#yeehaws

Having demand avoidance in a medical setting is literally hell. Like, patient autonomy is already absolute ass. It's only made worse when doctors CONSISTENTLY tell you what to do and act like you HAVE to do it instead of consulting with you first like normal fucking people.

#also “”“”medical necessity“”“” is NOT an excuse here.#ive been to plenty of doctors that thoroughly discuss a range/timeline of treatment and explain it IN DETAIL before saying “thats what i-#-recommend“ instead of just going ”okay were gonna do this. im gonna explain the prep to you a mile a minute and if you have any follow up-#-questions im just gonna repeat part of my spiel with no clarification. and if i cant answer your questions too bad :)“#not to mention how many doctors just force you to do things that WILL NEVER WORK #like one therapist tried forcing me to do emdr when i was only IN HER TOWN for the summer and i had no internet access when i was at college #im pretty sure emdr takes several weeks to work and i did not have that kind of time available to me. i couldnt just drop out bc of ptsd.#also the number of times ive had to decline an ESI is stupid. I'm starting to feel about artistic depictions of trans scars the same way I feel about artistic depictions of blindness: they suck.

At first the art of all the jagged lined scars I saw for trans characters seemed neat. But then I started to remember that I have those scars and they don't look like that. At all. And it's kinda shitty to draw all these trans men and nbs in such a way that they look like someone took an axe to their chests. Mastectomy/top surgery scars don't look like that at all! Even when you have a slash and dash quick surgery like I did, the results are much nicer and most trans guys you can't even tell.

This is like drawing people with white/pale, unfocused eyes as a shorthand for blindness. It's a shitty stereotype and I think in the long run it causes more harm than good. Just like with real trans folks you may have to just say out loud that your guy is trans instead of giving him a design that's kinda shitty to the bros out there who went through some shit to look really good.

Reminder to all the Mad Women on my feed: if a doctor brushes off your symptoms because of your history with mental health or whatever, get as many second opinions as you need to get someone to look at your symptoms seriously.

Because “Oh it’s just a migraine, you have a history of those” is VERY DIFFERENT from “oh hey you have a hole in your skull that a polyp from your arachnoid cyst fell through into your sinus cavity, good thing your ENT doctor thought to ask a neurologist before pulling on it because that would’ve been BAD.”

Forever undecided about whether I wanna get top surgery. Like maybe I just need to grow a bunch of hair on my tits

#.#dysphoria/#I am lucky to have a pretty small chest and I had to stop binding as much cuz I overdid it as a child lol #and it’s smaller since being on Hrt for a while so I’m rarely worried about it being like. The Main Thing that makes me not pass #like I know I’d be a lot more comfortable in a lot of situations and in different clothes if I did have top surgery #and this summer when I went to packed European beaches and shit rly rly got me thinking about doing it #I think maybe I should at least do a consultation if I can because a big thing id have to get over to make this decision is just how much #I fear the recovery process #and I feel like this is irrational cuz I’ve known so many ppl personally to get top surg and it’s nearly always smooth sailing really #and bc my chest is this weird shape and size I have. no idea what types I’d be eligible for and there r SO MANy now

I watch international horror movies and particularly like Japanese ones, and so when I would go to my Japanese oral exams in college I would always feel like I'm in a horror movie and The Ghost is probably watching us and plotting our deaths
