Has marvel just forgotten that Loki is a frost giant or something? I swear after the first Thor movie they've mentioned it like twice even though it's such a pivotal moment for him!

There’s zero chance Loki and Hela having so many similarities is just a coincidence. And even though we’re most definitely never getting a full explanation for it, I’m so curious as to what you guys believe the reason is. Do you think:
a.) Loki’s a shapeshifter who can see people’s memories when he touches them. So when Odin picked him up as a baby, he saw Hela in Odin’s mind and shifted himself to resemble her.
b.) Loki and Hela have the same biological mother.
c.) Hela is Loki’s biological mother.
d.) Odin changed Loki to look like Hela when he first held him, because he missed her.
e.) Hela’s biological mother is jotun, and she and Loki both have black hair/pale skin/green aesthetic/etc because that’s just what frost giants look like when they take an asgardian form.
f.) Hela and Loki are both adopted, both children of Laufey. Odin took Hela centuries earlier, then when he realised Laufey’d had another child, he took Loki too.
**I’ve listed these in order from the ones I find most likely to least likely, if you’re curious. Tell me which headcanon you prefer, I wanna see.

Jotun Loki Design
Jotun lore/headcanons under the cut !!
Tumblr media
Species Info -The Jotnar have blue skin that varies in shades. They can have white/very pale skin, but it’s rare.
-They have red eyes with heightened sight to help them easily navigate the dark. It also gives them the ability to see well through thick snow fall.
-Temperatures in Jotunnheim never rise above the freezing point of water. Jotnar can exist comfortably at frigid temperatures. Jotnar are highly vulnerable to heat. (Marvel wiki)
-The Jotnar hunt with the help of wolves and eagles/falcons. Both creatures are considered sacred animals and are treated with great respect. Wolves help track and bring down prey, and many Jotnar have them as companions. Eagles help locate prey from above and transport messages between Jotnar, as well as being a source of companionship for a few. (Inspired by imagery from the Hunnestad monument and other mythology)
-‘Troll’ is known widely as a particularly harsh insult, as it diminishes both ones intelligence and appearance.
-Family is very important to the Jotnar. The circle-like markings on their body are hereditary, making a sense of familial pride crucial to one’s identity.
-Members of the royal family can be identified by their markings (they are the only Jotnar with double ring markings).
-Some Jotnar are born with an affinity for magic.
-Because the temperatures are so low, putting water on one’s body to freeze into icy patterns is used on special/formal occasions. Some adults treat this as a profession and perfect their craft to use on customers for payment.
-I can’t decide if Jotnar should use actual currency or more of a bartering system.
Specific info on Jotun Loki:
-This is basically Loki if they were never taken from Jotunnheim. They are the child of Laufey. (Despite the Jotnar prioritizing familial bonds and well being, Laufey is an outlier. He is abusive and cruel).
-Loki was born unusually small, which is a big part of why Laufey despises them and views them as weak/useless. Even as an adult, Loki is quite small compared to other Jotnar. (Still giant by human standards, though!)
-Loki was born with magic as a Jotun- though his abilities are not as strong as they would be under the cultivation of an Asgardian sorceress. Like most Jotnar, he relies on his skill with weapons just as much as his magic. (Thus, the giant ice sword. Is it very practical? Idk but it was fun to draw)
-She owns two eagles and a huuge wolf (maybe in this world Fenrir is Loki’s pet/companion instead of her child? Just a normal wolf? Idk).
-His earrings are meant to mimic icicles
if you have any jotun headcanons of your own you’d like to share… feel free to do so I will love u forever

❅Jotun Loki Design❅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my submissions for @jotun-design-party, though i don't know if it's too late (deadline was december 17th, and it it still dec 17 for me {by less than an hour} but idk if it is for it). If i missed the deadline, i'm sorry.
I had been looking forward to this for several months (and even started a separate jotun loki design months ago in preparation/excitement), but i just haven't been able to do much as of late. Which is sad. And while i had been planning to enter the contest for months, as it drew nearer i realized i probably wouldn't be able to. Which was very sad, because this is one of the only things i've actually looked forward to in forever :(.
As such, though, i really didn't want this oppurtunity to go to waste, like so many others i've had to, and especially in light of magpiemurder going to leave its account soon, i just decided i'd have to push though and do it. I spent pretty much all of today just drawing drawing drawing. Traditional sketched, and then "quickly" added colour digitally (it took several hours as well).
also. all the designs are supposed to be symmetrical (save design 四 and the nails in designs 三&四), so if you see any mistakes... sshhh
More on designs:
一: average battle outfit made from thick, rubbery frost beast leather
二: ceremonial battle armour, used in head shaving ceremony and first battle of a war. Made from thick and (some) thin leather, as well as some mercury metal rings, beads, and bone
三: average every-day wear (inside the city). made of fur, cloth woven from fur, thin leather mercury and bone.
四: average every-day wear (inside city). Likely for around-city wear, not relaxing indoors, due to the uncomfortableness of the beads. Made of fur fabric, fur, thin leather, beads, some bone.
五: average everyday wear (inside city). By far my favourite. For the loincloth, i tried making it look like celtic knots that start right at the top, then sort of get looser and "fade-out" at the end. Thin leather, fur fabric, bone, beads, possibly mercury metal rings.
六: everyday travel wear (outside of city). Not made for warmth, but for protection agains the elements (sharp stone, cutting blizzards, etc). Thick leather, mercury rings. Since loki is royalty, the under layer on theirs is made of black fish scale (the rarest) (also it's supposed to be slightly iridescent but i couldn't do that). For less lavish options, under layers could be made of simply thinner leather, fabric, or a nothing. The nothing option has the jotun wearing it craft an under layer out of ice, and allows for more skin avaliable to make ice for other uses. Also notice how lokis gloves leave the palm bear; this is to allow for the ability to still make ice.
also wanted to say pretty much any of these outfits could be worn with cloaks (save design 一) but i didn't draw them
also: i wanted to do another outfit, a traditional wedding attire. I imagine the jotnar wouldn't actually wear clothes for a wedding, but rather make their own covering out of their own ice. Being their own design, it shows their partner "who they are", and the transparency of the ice represents vulnerability and transparency (in communication; honesty).

Loki Ask: do you have any headcanons about jotunheim?
Ooh many! Most of them are directly associated with my fic (which would be the case with a lot of the questions from this list) but I suppose there are some that don't need that context, especially when it comes to the war. "Once, mankind accepted a simple truth; that they were not alone in this universe. Some worlds, man believed to be home to their gods, others, they knew to fear."
I think, both the Jotuns and the Aesir are roughly the same age race-wise with maybe the Jotuns being slightly older. I think each of these races had the ultimate goal of becoming the one ruling over Yggdrasil. The key factor in that was, that they had a different approach of achieving that.
While Asgard wanted to paint this picture of being the protector and the saviour to which the realms would look up to as their trusted and respected superiors (which ultimately worked), Jotunheim aimed to rule with an iron fist, with their tactics being rushed and more violent as a result of that. They wanted to base their rule on fear-induced respect and weren't as patient (or subtle) which contributed to their fall. It stems from their nature and helped the Aesir by giving them the opportunity to prove themselves as the protectors where they saved, in this case, Midgard from Jotunheim's attack when that wasn't the sole reason why they arrived. (But of course, Midgard lacked the broader context. They were thankful that somebody came to their defence in the first place.)
I think, both Asgard and Jotunheim's rulers were very aware of one another and that carried itself over through the generation until it escalated into the Asgard-Jotunheim war that took place during Odin's rule. This is why I think it was a little bit more personal than the other wars. Asgard takes pride in victory and in battle which manifests into their warrior society and so, just like Thor and Loki, Odin must have grown up with similar stories. This war finally solidified the already somewhat well-established position Asgard had created for itself by earning them Midgard's trust and worship and by bringing one of their last enemies, Jotunheim, to its knees.
I believe Jotunheim used to prosper before these wars and before they initiated their attempts of conquest but fell apart completely after the Casket was taken from them. I believe, this downfall started even before Laufey ascended and that's part of the reason why he seemed as power-driven as he did. His tactic was not thought out at all and he took way too many risks out of desperation to not only save his realm and kingdom but to win his people more than they already had. I think this resulted in riots in the realm and therefore deaths of many of its inhabitants. Despite the treaty, they were cut off from the rest of the alliance and probably saw their king as a coward apart from a selected group surrouding the palace, or better said, its ruins.
I think you can see this in the way in which Odin handled finding Loki. His decision was based on political action that would come to fruition in the distant future. If the roles had been reversed, Laufey would have killed Odin's son without mercy or judgement of the consequences that it would bring. Another example would be when he immediately ordered Loki to be killed upon his arrival. Initially, he was not interested in finding out what was the reason behind his visit and he was too quick to agree with Loki's offer and travel to Asgard (as the realm's king, meaning putting its future at a major risk).

i want your opinion on this, who do you think sigyn might be in the gow universe? me and my friends in my group chat have discussed in lengths and we hope that it will be another name for angrboda, just like how atreus has two names. it would be pretty whack to have a *ugh* love triangle in the story, i don't think that's gonna happen, though the idea of a throuple is welcome. we just got introduced to angrboda as a character, so killing her off would be entirely out of the question. it would be so out of left field, i mean it could help setting off the plot of atreus' rage and revenge (cycles are not easily broken!), but that's been done so many times it would be redundant and not neccessary. maybe gryla is hiding something from angrboda? they haven't talked to each other for a long time. would it be plausible that her parents named her sigyn, or she's known as sigyn in other realms? the jotun community seemed very tight-knit, i wonder if they all knew each other. i wonder if angrboda's parents told them about her real name, and i wonder if they knew laufaye. i wonder if they knew of their childrens' destinies...
I think if Sigyn is included, it will be a pseudonym for Angrboda. If there is another enemy hunting down the Jotnar and/or Loki, Angrboda might refer to herself as Sigyn as a means to protect herself. Ragnarök makes it very clear that she and Atreus are endgame and a love triangle would be cringe inducing. I think we're going to see Angrboda and Atreus' relationship develop over the next few games as they grow up, and it will culminate in the birth of Hel. There's also no reason why Angrboda can't be the mother of Nari and Váli.
I feel like if Sigyn was going to appear, though, it would've been in Ragnarök.
Killing Angrboda off would destroy her arc in Ragnarök and make her another victim of this series killing off its female characters for a man's development. There's definitely other ways to get Atreus fired up: hurting Kratos, targeting the Jotnar, etc. Angrboda's story doesn't end. It doesn't revolve around Atreus. Really, her life has just begun. I think when she inevitably joins Atreus' ventures as a companion, she'll get a lot more development and really start to come out of her shell. I can see her loving and studying the art of all these different cultures and befriending some of the locals/deities.
I do think her parents definitely knew Faye and they were friends with her. We might see more of this in a potential spin off Atreus game. Even back when we saw Angrboda all the way back in the first teaser in 2021, I thought her parents knew Faye (I theorized her dad was Tyr, though lmao). I headcanon that Angrboda's mother and Faye were especially close and maybe even childhood friends.

huge jotunheimr worldbuilding and biology + culture headcanons post
compiling the worldbuilding ive done for a wip i have that will probably never actually be completed. sort of comics based but not necessarily relevant to comics in any way, just largely contradictory to movie canon and predicated on the idea of a loki who knows his heritage and didnt come to live in asgard until he was a school-aged child
-jotun weapons and jewelry are traditionally made of stone or bone. asgardians take this as evidence the jotun are primitive savages barely capable of craftsmanship, but this is entirely a practical consideration: mining is hardly worthwhile when the ground is frozen solid. traditional jotun bone jewelry is quite elaborately carved, and there are many skilled artisans, highly respected in jotun society. but metal weapons and trinkets are not unheard of on jotunheimr. jotun engage in some trade with the dwarves of nidavellir, exchanging pelts and whale oil (which the dwarves use for their lamps) for weapons and jewelry, and these steel weapons are coveted status symbols among the jotnar.
-jotumheimr ecology based on svalbard. tundra and permafrost make agriculture unfeasible, and as such, jotun are largely carnivorous. most of the flora is moss or lichen. there is some rather scant forest near the border with asgard. native animals include polar bears, caribou, arctic foxes, voles, puffins, seals, walrus, whales, fish, and migratory birds that spend the winter in asgard to the south.
-the primary occupation of most of the population is herding (of caribou), fishing, and hunting. as a small child, before he was taken to asgard, loki was quite an accomplished seal hunter (hunting seals involves sitting silent and still above a hole in the ice for sometimes several hours, waiting for one to surface so that you can spear it. thor was astonished at his new brother’s ability to sit so still for so long, a skill that, on asgard, young loki mainly put to use in games like hide and seek and in pulling pranks)
-shapeshifting is common and natural to the jotnar. its so widespread that its considered distinct from “magic,” which needs to be studied and learned and practiced. not every jotun can do it, but it’s common, no more remarkable to them than genetic quirks like red hair or being “double jointed” is to us. however there is no precedent among jotun society for conspicuous switching between male and female, even if it is possible. there is no “genderfluid” “role” jotun in society
-the jotnar are an oral culture, with no system of writing. This, like their lack of metallurgy, is seen by asgardians as primitive, but actually they have a very extensive oral tradition of skalds and storytelling and poetry. Story and magic are inextricably linked in jotun culture, and this is probably what loki would have been doing if he hadn’t been taken to asgard.
-loki could read and write before he came to asgard. he demanded his older cousin’s elvish thrall give him lessons in her spare time, and he would buy books from traders and devour them eagerly, didn’t matter what they were about, he wanted them. he surprised his asgardian tutors, who initially despaired the idea of teaching letters and sums to a “primitive savage”
-jotun pointy ears. jotun nictitating membranes
-jotun and asgardian royalty are much more closely related than either of them would like to admit, thanks to a long, tangled history of intermarriage, war brides, and dalliances. thor and loki are actually blood related; bestla and laufey are cousins, making odin loki’s second cousin, and thor loki’s second cousin once removed (as a side note, while incest is taboo on asgard, the population there is so small that cousin marriage is not considered incest and is occasionally practiced)
-prior to the establishment of the monarchy, jotunheimr was ruled by a loose coalition of clans and family groups
-jotun monarchy is a bit inbred LOL due to a lack of desire to forge marriage alliances that would dilute the power of the family. this is a contributing factor to loki’s small stature. jotun can be just about any size, but shortness is recessive compared to being giant.
-jotun put on weight in cold weather and lose weight rapidly in hot weather. this is a large part of why loki is scrawny compared to asgardian standards, he can’t bulk up in the temperate asgardian climate
-it’s also stressful in other ways, he gets migraines from the heat and its customary for prince loki to retire to his chambers for several hours in the afternoon and not reemerge until dinner. part of why he develops a disdain for physical combat is that sparring for hours in the hot sun is difficult for him to tolerate until he becomes advanced enough at magic to use tricks to regulate his temperature
-jotun cannot digest several common food items on asgard. loki’s first week in asgard involved a lot of trial and error and a humiliating amount of time spent in the privy. conversely, jotun can stomach a wider variety of meats, including raw meat, than asgardians
-jotun highwaymen are common in the unincorporated territory north of asgard and south of jotunheimr. but so are asgardian outlaws. the area is dangerous for both asgardian and jotun travelers. thor and loki sometimes ventured there as foolhardy, cocky teens, usually getting into a lot of trouble and more than once nearly starting an international incident
-farbauti didn’t know she was pregnant with loki until she was literally going into labor. despite the small size of the fetus, it was a difficult labor and nearly killed her
-farbauti dallied with some asgardian soldiers during the first war, just prior to loki’s birth. laufey knew about his wife’s infidelity and it hurt his pride significantly, and he became suspicious, even paranoid, that loki wasn’t his biological child (note: he is)
-after the second jotun-asgardian war, which resulted in odin’s victory, jotunheimr became a territory of asgard, ruled by a board of asgardian governors. it was, originally, odin’s intention that after loki came of age he would return to jotunheimr to act as a puppet king
-the jotnar practice harsh manhood rituals that involve, among other things, trekking out into the wild naked and killing a polar bear with your bare hands. as a symbol of manhood, after completing this ritual, the mature jotun has his teeth filed into points. asgardians are not generally aware of this custom, and those who have only met jotun on the battlefield think this is a natural feature of jotun physiology. the first time thor and loki were left alone together thor demanded to see loki’s fangs. this ended in a tussle, after loki hotly insisted he didn’t have fangs and thor sheepishly asked how he could drink asgardian blood if he didn’t have fangs, and loki told him he would show him. loki did his best to draw blood in the ensuing scrape, though obviously he didn’t drink any of it. both of them were flogged for this, and the shared indignity of the punishment made them forget their quarrel and established the foundations of camaraderie between them
-odin decided that the jotnar would be more accepting of prince loki’s return to them and his reign over them if he had undergone the traditional manhood rituals, so when loki was a teen, he was sent home to participate. thor was given a cursory explanation of what it entailed and he was worried sick about loki, sure that loki would be killed. when loki returned to asgard unharmed, thor was relieved beyond words. he concluded that loki must have used magic to kill the bear, because surely loki wasn’t strong enough to do it by hand. when he voiced this to loki (not actually meaning to cause offense but not really thinking how it sounded) loki was furious and their subsequent fight and estrangement lasted months

(I've been debating on making a post like this for a little bit. I didn't originally use diapers at all so I've never mentioned them, but I've come across uses in agere as well as medical as a disabled person that have made me more open to personal use of them. Headcanons have been helping me feel more comfortable but I was afraid I'd be misconstrued for anything k!nk
This is purely an agere and disability headcanon/post, NO K!NK INTERACTION!! And, obvious CW for Diapers 😊)
I've made a previous headcanon/post about Loki likely having more disabilities than just being born a small Jotun. Incontinence/semicontinence (having some level of trouble properly using the bathroom) is one of them. They learned how to mask it by shaming themselves into just holding it and drinking less fluids, like many of us autistics end up doing. When they start age regressing, it opens up the possibilities of diapers for them once again, but embarrassment causes them to heavily avoid it for the longest time
Steve Rogers was hesitant at first, but started use of diapers in agere with the support of Bucky, and Steve ends up learning of their more everyday use. Steve, having grown up chronically ill (and I also headcanon autistic), was in diaps and pull ups for much longer than his peers due to difficulties. He also learned to kinda mask and the serum helped with the physical ailments/setbacks, but he still had minor issues. He ends up sometimes using diaps outside of agere if he feels it more helpful
It's Steve who actually learns and helps with Loki's situation. Completely by accident, Steve discovered it and Loki was so frustrated and embarrassed at the time, but Steve's gentleness and shared experience as someone with the same support need helped ease Loki into their use. Starting with agere, as it was harder for Loki to control when regressed, they work through the shame and eventually confide in Thor about Loki using them in agere, which Thor has no problem with and is very supportive. When Steve offers to help move diap use into Loki's more everyday life, it was much harder to get through. It's when Loki finally decides to spill the whole truth to Thor, which expands Loki's support system, that Loki is finally able to have their realization that it's okay

STATUS: Secondary. AGE: 1000+ SPECIES: Jotun. NATIONALITY: Alien. HEIGHT: 6'1'. SEXUALITY: Pansexual. PRONOUNS: Fluid. All pronouns. OCCUPATION: God of mischief.
My  portrayal  of  Loki  is  heavily  based  on  the  MCU,  but  I  will  be  using  the  myth  and  other  marvel  media  portrayals  for  inspiration,  as  well  as  taking  strong  influence  from  my  own  headcanons  overall.  Typically my Loki would be considered a variant and hopes to more explore the concept of "Lady Loki" without her being a separate entity to the Loki of the MCU. Loki  has  suffered  various  forms  of  lgbt+phobia,  particularly  due  to  Asgard's  cultural  norms.  This  will  come  up  in  my  headcanons  and  threads  from  time  to  time. Ultimately,  I  don't  stray  very  much  from  the  MCU's  established  canon  with  Loki  and  her characterization  /  portrayal. That said,  I  was  not  a  huge  fan  of  the  Loki  series.  Despite  my  feelings  on  it however  I  do  have  multiple  verses  surrounding  it  because  its  a  fun  concept  all  the  same !
Tumblr media
SHIPPING STATUS: Open and selective. Loki's unfortunately another muse that has been marred for me with really awful shipping experiences. My Loki is hypersexual due to trauma and I've had people take advantage of them/this many times, so, yeah, again I'm very cautious. Chemistry and development is required.
Tumblr media
Tricky politics : Past verse.
A  coverall  verse  for  events  taking  place  between  Thor:  The  Dark  World  and  End  Game.  Loki  rules  Asgard,  largely  masquerading  as  Odin  ━  up  until  the  reappearance  of  Thor,  that  is,  where  he  is  stranded  on  Sakaar  until  Thor  also  arrives  there.  Generally  follows  canon  but  will  occasionally  house  canon  divergence  on  a  plot-by-plot  basis.
Tumblr media
Desist and deceive : Main AU.
Loki's  main  but  currently  canon  divergent  verse  in  which  he  hasn't  died  by  Thanos  hand,  rather,  he  pledged  his  loyalty  to  the  mad  titan,  only  to  turn  back  as  soon  as  the  opportunity  presented  itself.  Alas,  Loki's  switch  was  ultimately  for  naught  as  he  soon  fell  victim  to  the  snap.  A  more  detailed  write  up  of  this  can  be  found  here. Due  to  the  currently  canon  divergent  nature  of  this  verse  Loki's  circumstances  and   status  after  his  resurrection  may  vary,  usually  on  a  plot  by  plot  basis.  Sometimes  he's  imprisoned  by  shield,  others  he's  kidnapped  by  the  TVA  and  sometimes  he  gets  away.  You  get  the  idea.
Tumblr media
God of the outcasts : TVA verse.
My  verse  to  play  with  events  for  the  Loki's  series.  Canon  divergent  in  the  sense  that  this  isn't  2012  Loki,  but  my  Loki.  The  one  who  survived  Thanos  from  my  Desist  and  Deceive  verse.  As  always  things  can  differ  on  a  plot  by  plot  basis  and  I'm  happy  to  alter  things  and  mess  around  with  other  peoples  ideas  regardless  of  my  own  canon  divergence.

dare i say it, mobius. as with most things in the loki series, i like the Concept enough but haaate the execution, which usually cancels out into me generally having neutral or positive-leaning emotions when seeing posts about it, until the finale ruined even that for me. i didn’t mind mobius. i loved the alternate version of him that i was making up in my head. but the amount of posts i’ve seen genuinely, unironically saying that mobius can do no wrong to the point of saying that brad deserved to be tortured just for insulting him is absolutely ridiculous. i now audibly groan every time i see his face
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
drawing/writing jotuns (specifically jotun loki) with horns. i mean, i can understand why they like it, it’s because horns are cool. but just how widespread it is is what baffles me. mcu jotuns don’t have horns (and i don’t think they do in the comics either, tho i could be wrong about that) and yet it seems like 75% of jotun or jotun loki art gives them horns
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
i am mad at how much i like symbrock

I recently finished @neil-gaiman's Norse Mythology and it was excellent. I like that the aesir were, especially as a mob, depicted as a bunch of falliable and violent louts. Thor was especially funny.
I'd never actually read a full account of Ragnarok before, just a few odd scraps of the predictions because so many of the stories foreshadow the big event. I think it would make for a really neat dnd/pathfinder campaign setting. Hear me out:
- Far into the future, Fimbulvetr has gone on for long enough to make civilization crumble and all of the original humans are either desperate mutant barbarians in the post apocalypse, part of the legions of Hel, or the Einherjar
-- Fimbulvetr starts sometime between 2030-2200 because of a nuclear winter. Everything left on midgard has been thoroughly irradiated until it looks suspiciously like the parts of the monster manual that I feel like using
-- Surtr is approaching earth to fight Frey. He travels over astronomical distances to reach midgard, and the entire campaign would be set in a period where the earth has rapidly warmed over the course of a few decades to produce a few transient pockets of civilization in an apocalyptic midgard just as Surtr approaches to burn the world to ash
- All PCs are among the Einherjar and may originally be from any time up to the 21st century (or *maybe* the barbarians if someone has a great backstory).
-- This way, characters can share some irl knowledge of guns and technology without having to play 100% dumb
-- Among the Einherjar, modern soldiers are very rare because the aesir think most wars after WWI were largely pathetic, but occasionally the Valkyries consider some brave infantrymen to be worthy of Valhalla. Modern Einherjar had plenty of time to update their older comrades on the existence of some new weaponry. They don't use this in Valhalla because they don't have access to the technology, but the Einherjar and gods are aware that humans in midgard got up to some crazy ass weapons development before Ragnarok began.
-- Original party members are all human because the adventure begins around a group of the Einherjar. They start around level 5 with plenty of access to player's handbook weaponry because they're badass warriors. Maybe by the time some get killed they can make friends with the light elves or dark elves/dwarves and add them to the party
--All nonhuman PC races would fall under light elves or dark elves. The distinction would be primarily down to whether they're from Alfheim or Svartalfheim. The light elves aren't generally opposed to the gods and don't need to fight in Ragnarok if they don't feel like it since their plane Alfheim won't be cremated by Surtr. Dark elves are only called dark because they are typically opposed to the aesir, but most don't feel the need to attack aesir during Ragnarok. They would be only a minor threat compared to the apocalyptic forces of Loki's spawn and Surtr that the gods are armed to face. They're frantically trying to use the wondrous technology of the dwarves to attempt to survive Ragnarok however they may.
- Jotun broadly include a lot of powerful monsters, and many of the strongest ones are giants, devils, or dragons possessing spellcasting abilities. They all hate the aesir
-- The original goal given to the party would be to kill a big bad evil Jotun with a piece of dwarven technology fetched from some dark elves
- The other main enemies the PCs encounter would be the oppositional force of Hel's legions
-- Hel's legions are primarily strong due to their vast numbers and the fact that they've somehow acquired a bit of modern weaponry. Most of the warriors suck unless they've been well-equipped. Some few powerful warriors happened to die pathetic deaths, even though they're not Einherjar they're still a threat.
-- That last point and the headcanon I have of modern soldiers being less likely to go to Valhalla was the nugget of an idea that inspired this post. I'd had this idea when reading about the Einherjar fighting the legions of dishonored dead until both sides were exterminated. I think having badass Vikings fighting zombies with modern weapons would make for some really cool turn based combat
- The aesir and vanir are significantly recontextualized to make the lore compatible with non Norse sources. The aesir still must play their roles in Ragnarok
--All of the aesir and vanir who hang out in Asgard are incarnate and may directly influence the world during Ragnarok
-- Every non-aesir diety that players are interested in worshipping as clerics/paladins/etc is disincarnate and counts among the ranks of the vanir. This can include dieties from any source worth including, be it Greek mythology, dnd books, other made up gods, what have you. Most don't wish to involve themselves in Ragnarok as they can rarely interfere directly with midgard due to a lack of incarnation. Vanaheim, home of the vanir, is functionally not a real place to go for incarnate beings which is why it is safe from Ragnarok, but some vanir have interests on Earth and may offer their power to players that think it's fun to be a cleric
....is this anything?

Vali
Love my wolf-girl!
favorite thing about them
Vali's character is fairly variable across the different multiverses. While there are a great many things she has in common with herself, the lens through which even her most consistent traits can change wildly. It makes her a very dynamic force in the multiverse.
least favorite thing about them
I still can't use her much in the main fic because I have no idea what's going to happen in Loki season 2, and I don't like not having access to characters.
favorite line
I think it's still: “My mind’s never been clearer,” she said. “And my brother is dead. Tell me where you are, so I can rip your throat out.”
brOTP
Her and her siblings!
OTP
I've definitely been writing her more and more as an aro-spec lesbian. I think there are a lot of universes where she is comfortable not necessarily having to be in a relationship.
nOTP
Sylki, still very much.
random headcanon
Despite being closer with her father than Nari generally is, Vali does not feel as strong a connection to her Jotun heritage as her brother.
unpopular opinion
Sylvie should have been Loki's daughter from the start. Like, in canon. It would have made her dynamic with Loki far more interesting.
song i associate with them
"bad guy" by billie eilish
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
If you look closely, you can see the exact moment she realizes that her father is an idiot.
Thank you for the ask!
