Hi, how is your day? I want to ask you about Dazai's character and its developments in the series, and what do you think of him? Do you think he's smarter than fyodor? Thank you for the answer in advance... And in the end, I would like to thank you for your hard work and your wonderful style of writing. it is relly special ..
Hi, thanks for the message. I am glad u like what I do (I donât really âwriteâ, just âtranslateâ, though).
Iâm quite bad at expressing my opinions. I normally do not give much thought to things until I am asked about it. So u may find it my answer all over the place because I havenât had it arranged in my head, itâs more like pulling out old notes from a rusty drawer. So Iâm sorry about it in advanced. And this is all my personal opinion, so you donât have to agree with me.
Dazai is a complicated and interesting character for me. He is smart, too smart that it brings him misery. People say ignorance is bliss, right? Then Dazai must be the most unfortunate guy on earth. Even Asagiri once described him as someone who has lived for 2000 years. I, with the brain of a normal person, canât bring myself to imagine how boring life would be for him, knowing things too well. Some might say that he was being overdramatic when he was young, and that heâd regret having all those thoughts when he gets older. But I personally donât think so. I think the pain and agony he felt was real, then or now. Just that in the past, he hadnât met people who would surprise him, or go beyond his calculations, he lived on thinking humans were ugly, sinful and stupid and didnât understand why they should be saved. His head must have been overwhelmed with thoughts that no one would ever be able to understand, and no one would even try to understand. That is why he was always lonely, and suicidal. I donât think he really wanted to die, he just couldnât find what to live for.
The thing I like about Dazaiâs character is that he fundamentally didnât change, even with all the so-called character developments. He was still the smart, and sad and lonely guy that he used to be. But he have met people who made him want to try living, peope who gave him a purpose and people who genuinely cared about him. And those are things that even his genius brain couldnât have predicted. From a fifteen year old who believed nothing was worth living for, he has become able to tell Kyouka that everyone deserves a second chance in life, to Fyodor that it is okay even if we are all sinfully stupid, and admit that no matter how well him and Fyodor can foresee things, the fate of the world is not decided by them, but the imperfect human beings that are fighting for what they deem precious out there. I doubt Dazai will ever get rid of his suicidal thoughts, or loneliness, but at least he has things he wants to protect, and it gives him the motivation to live on. We havenât seen him talking about dying for no reasons for so long. Now he only lets himself get hurt, or take risky action for the greater sake (BEAST is not counted cuz that is a totally different universe), and I think it is a good sign in his character development.
I forgot to write about his relationship with Akutagawa and Atsushi. Basically, I donât think Dazai was a good mentor. Someone who hardly experienced failure is not likely to become a good mentor. He treated Akutagawa badly in the past because all he could see was that the weak could not survive in the harsh world and there was no saving for them. But the meeting with Oda has changed his way of thinking. He now sees orphans and the weak as those he has to protect, thatâs why the way he treated Atsushi is very different from that of Akutagawa. He is still not the best mentor, but he is better now.
About Fyodor, I donât think he is smarter than Fyodor. They must be on the same level of wits. Dazai actually can act more human when he is around people like him, so having Fyodor as an opponent can actually be very entertaining to him. Even if Dazai is going to win the final battle, I donât think it is because Dazai is smarter. He is just backed up by more people in the âsomewhat beautifulâ side.

So, I couldn't sleep so I decided to went through my notes and there was a period when I translated song I liked (english cover for example) and I translated Reason Living at some point (and English cover).
Guys, I think you have no idea how crazy this opening is to me.
(Beware, spoilers ahead, don't read if you don't want to be spoiled)
The symbolism behind it is just awesome.
Dark Era is really one of my favourite arc. It made me cry and grieve FOR MONTHS before I was even able to listen to the opening without wanting to cry.
And I KNOW how BSD works, it's about the characters but also about saving the world and crazy people trying to change everything with the page.
But if you think about it, BSD is also about people finding themselves. I think we can all agree that some characters for whom we got backstories or even explanations DID find themselves are at least, they are going in the right direction (they clearly are not Zoro). And Atsushi is the main character for a reason because he is still finding who he is and why he is worthy.
And Reason Living? It's just pure hope and angst at the same time it hurts. They PLAYED IT while Odasaku was fighting Gide and I HATED that because the irony of it always made me cry. Playing REASON LIVING when Odasaku LOST his reasons to live??? I know maybe he could have try to keep on living because he wasn't alone but that's not the point and I fully understand Odasaku okay. That man lost his ideals, his ideas of a brigther future because of Mori, how was he supposed to react in other ways than wanting to kill Gide?
But playing this song, about not knowing why you are alive, why you should stay alive but still wanting to find a reason, wanting to find hope?? Yeah that was a horrible experience.
This song describes so much characters. We can obviously state Dazai who's still trying to find himself (I personaly think he is about to have his answer in the manga but it's not the topic here), but it also describes Atsushi who is still learning about his ability and how to deal with it and how to deal with his past. Maybe we can also include Kyouka, even Kunikida because I'm quite sure he is as lost as everyone.
They act but they don't know why, they just know they have to and that maybe they'll find why they have to keep on living.
And I swear this opening hit HARD. I never questioned why I was alive, I just want to be alive because I don't like death at all. It's scary and the end of everything so yes, I never thought about it. But this opening? It takes your feelings and crushes them under the pain, the hope, the despair and everything the characters feel.
BSD is really one of my favourite manga and it really hit me how this manga is about people searching themselves and trying hard to create a brighter future.
Yeah, it might be stupid because Reason Living is probably not the only opening talking about all of that, but it's still my favourite out of all of them. Also, it's clearly stated in the title "Bungou Stray Dogs" how the story is not going to be a walk in a park.
And yet, this story is absolutely amazing and the influence of Dark Era, of Odasaku in this universe is crazy because he's not really a good man (this scene in the novel traumatised me, the one with the vacuum cleaner) and his influence is clearly less important than Natsume's, but we can all agree that it is weird how in every universe, he can't live if Dazai's alive.
Anyway, I really went too far, I just wanted to vent about why Reason Living is a really good opening and how soul crushing it felt to hear it during the fight. Even without speaking and understanding japanese, I felt its meaning deep within my soul.
Thank you for reading!
(I'm really sorry if it's seems a bit..weird to read, it's late where I am from (like, 2 in the morning) and my hands were going ahead of my brain).

Dazai asked you to go with him and Atsushi to get Naomi and Haruno in case they ran into any trouble. You and Dazai would be able to stay behind and deal with it while Atsushi got the girls to the extraction point. However you could tell that Dazai was getting bored âDazai-â You stopped talking, your attention drawn away from him as you smelled something, Dazai let out a harsh whistle pulling your attention back to him.
âWhat?â He asked.
âI think someone else is here.â You mumbled as you looked around Dazai smiled as walked towards you.
âAre you sure you're not just jealous of the dogs I was playing with?â He asked lifting his hand to your face, you looked away from him blushing as you pushed his hand away, he cooed as he dove forward pulling you into a hug. âDonât react, thereâs someone here, Iâm going to go check it out.â He continued to poke your side for a second before laughing and pulling away from you âIâm going to get some coffee.â
âAlright donât take too long, we have a job to do.â You called after him as he disappeared.
âSometimes I worry about him, are you sure that heâs okay?â Atsushi asked as he watched Dazai leave.
âIs there something that you're worried about?â You asked.
âWell no, heâs been eating a lot of weird things latelyâŠâ He answered.
âLike what?â You asked.
âI donât know it looked like dog food.â He answered.
âTry not to worry about him too much, you should worry about yourself, you know you should be worried about yourself, you are too kind for your own good, after all this is done weâll go get lunch or something okay?â You asked.
âYeah sure.â He smiled, his eyes moved to the train that was coming into the station, you waited for the doors to open and you looked for Naomi and Haruno. âHaruno, Naomi are you guys okay?â
âWeâre fine, who would have thought that they would go after a couple of office clerks?â Naomi asked.
âWell at least you're both okay.â You smiled.
âWeâre going to take you to the extraction point.â Atsushi smiled.
âOh thereâs someone that we wanted you to meet.â He said softly as you looked at the train, the smell was weird. You realised the smell was blood, you pushed Atsushi back out of the way, the kid bumping into you instead, he giggled as he looked at you pulling up his sleeves.
âDo you want to play a game?â He asked.
Atsushi watched as you transformed into your wolf form, you was larger than a normal wolf with teeth and claws to match, Atsushi put himself between you and the girls in hopes that heâd be able to protect them, the fight that broke out was vicious he didn't know what happened to you but he was trying his hardest to keep you away from the others, he was covered in scratches and bites and Naomi and Haruno had been injured as well. Atsushi was pinned under you as you attempted to bite at his throat. Dazai appeared running past them and deactivating your ability as he did, he looked around for the doll as Atsushi rolled you both over holding you down. âThatâs enough.â Dazai muttered as he disabled the boy's ability.
âYour friends are so fragile Mr Dazai.â The boy said from the train. âBut I look forward to the day that I get to break you.â
âDonât worry next time I wonât capture you, Iâll tear your heart from your chest.â Dazai threatened as he watched the child disappear.
âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry, why didnât you just kill me!?â You cried as you pressed your hands to the wounds on Atsushiâs body, he had passed out the moment that you stopped fighting him. Dazai walked over to you, taking your face in his hands.
âFocus Pup we canât save anyone if you panic.â He reminded you, you nodded and took out your phone with shaky hands calling Kunikida and Dr Yasano, who told you that they were on their way.
It was a couple of hours later that everyone was healed back in the safety of the office that Dazai came over to you. You were sitting on a sofa towards the back of the office building, youâd been picking at your nails since you got back, you washed them a few times too, he walked over crouching in front of you and taking your hands in his, you seemed to flinch for a second before realising who was in front of you. âI donât understand what happened, they were attacking me, thatâs what I saw⊠I didnât mean to hurt anyone.â
âWhat happened was not your fault.â Dazai said.
âI was the one that hurt everyone, you should be saying that to the others.â You glared at him as you pulled your hands away, he stood up taking a seat next to you and putting an arm around you.
âThe little boy at the station, his name is Q, I met him when I worked for the mafia, his ability allows him to turn a targeted person's friends into their enemies, his ability did this to you.â He explained. âThis isnât something that you could have stopped, I donât know why they let him out but I promise you that Iâm never going to let him hurt you again.â Dazai moved you till you were leaning against his chest. âGet some rest weâll need you tomorrow if any plan is going to work.â
âThank you Dazai, for everything.â You mumbled.
âIâd do anything for you Pup, I promise.â He said softly and you nodded, falling into a dreamless sleep but well aware that he didnât leave you the whole time.

So far of reading your writing, I really love it! :)) May I request Kunikida, Dazai and Ranpo having an younger member of the agency being a sort of subordinate of them but acts a lot like a younger sibling to them? She's just really pure hearted and soft and really looks up to them so she likes helping them out a lot. Just some fluff because my boys deserve all love and affection
Awww thank you so much for the compliment!! This request is so cute, and yes, all the boys deserve all the love and affection that is possible cause they go through too much đ Anon requested this as platonic, and reader is gender neutral. Also, I wasnât too sure what the age should be, so I went with Kyokaâs age, which is 14. Hope you enjoy!
TW: Mentions of suicide in Dazaiâs part, but nothing too heavy or specific is mentioned. It does get kinda sad though, but it has a happy ending. Also, slight spoiler for season 2/Dark Era Arc, but nothing too major
Young ADA Member Acting like a Younger Sibling to: Kunikida, Dazai, and Ranpo
Kunikida
Okay, so when you first started at the office, people (specifically Naomi and Junichiro) were nervous when you got paired up with Kunikida. And Kunikida isnât a bad man by any means, but he can be very, very, very strict
And how well do rules stick with kids/younger people? Exactly. It just sounded like a bomb waiting to explode
And you look so soft and so sweet! What if he made you cry?!
Which Naomi threatened to draw blood if he did
Even Kunikida himself was nervous. This was not written in his notebook to be a glorified babysitter!
But the President insisted, putting faith into you that youâll be a great addition to the team and that he can lead you on the right path and not into trouble like some people he wonât mention (Dazai)
That was all that he needed to hear, and he took those words very serious. He wonât let the President down, and he wasnât going to let you down either. You guys were gonna give it your all, whether you were ready to or not
But, to everyoneâs surprise (really his) you both adapted well. You treated him with respect, said yes sir, no sir, tidied up both of your desks (which were right next to each other), you even tried to abide by his stern schedule without any complaints
You were a great help on missions too, you didnât recklessly throw yourself into danger, and you made sure to look out for citizens to keep them safe and out of danger
And that wasnât it, oh no
You made sure to bring him snacks (atleast the ones that he said were ideal), made sure that he was keeping hydrated and not tensed up all the time (working in this office will do that to you), and to make his workload as light as possible
After seeing him go off on Dazai for the 1000th time and getting wound up over a case that wasnât getting any leads, you saw how stressed and frustrated he was getting. Mumbling to himself about how could he âreplace the President if he couldnât do this rightâSo you tapped on your shoulder, with one goal in mind: To comfort him
When you tapped his shoulder, he turned and yelled, âWHAT NOW?!â, right into your face
Time stood still as everyone froze, shocked. Even Kunikida himself after he saw it was you.
He felt immediately guilty, about to apologize for losing his cool when you began speaking
âMr. Kunikida, please donât stress too much. Itâs not good for your heart! And donât let this one thing stop you! Youâre a great leader, and someone that I look up to. I wouldnât be where I was at now without you! So please donât doubt yourself, because we donât, especially me! Youâre my role model, Mr. Kunikida. Please, donât ever forget that.â
After that, it was like a flip switched in him
â(Y/N), come here and walk very slowly.â
You did so with no hesitation, but you were curious
âYour shoe is untied. Here, let me tie it for you. It wouldnât be ideal if you get injured because of a lousy shoelace. It wouldnât be ideal if you got injured at all.â
â(Y/N), we have lunch scheduled at exactly 12:15. Theyâre also serving your favorite today, so we canât be late, understand?â
âYes sir!â, you said with a smile
â(Y/N), letâs go. Itâs getting dark and if you still want to see that dreaded light show, we have to leave in 20 seconds to make it! I donât want to see you sad or hear you complain if we miss it.â
âComing sir! Just finishing up some work for tomorrow-â
âI already have it written in my notebook on when it will be done, so we can go.â
âHere you go Mr. Kunikida, I already typed up and printed out the reports for later on!â
âThanks kid. And you donât have to keep calling me Mister okay? Kunikida is fine.â
Dead silent in the office
KUNIKIDA is letting someone way younger than him just call him KUNIKIDA? Not MR.KUNIKIDA???
Everyone is, realistically, shook
But as time went on, they understood why
He came to look after you as his own
The entire ADA would have never thought the day would come (it wasnât even in the notebook!) where he would care for a kid like his little sibling but here it was, right in front of their faces
But they werenât complaining at all. You seemed to make his day a little brighter, and he wasnât as uptight as much (but donât be mistaken he was still Kunikida, just at an 8 instead of a whole 10)
After that mini pep talk that fateful day, he made it his duty to be a good role model for you. To always set a good example, both in and out the office.
He wouldnât fail you, and he would be damned if he let anything happen to you
Youâre a good kid, and you only deserve the best. And he was gonna be the best role model (and brother) for you
Dazai
Aw man, he was..conflicted to say the least
Listen, itâs not like he hates kids or teens, but itâs just extra responsibilities to watch over them. And he already slacks off enough to begin with, so is this really a good idea sticking a 14 year-old with him?
And lowkey, the way that he treated Akutagawa is still heavy on his mind, and he doesnât want a repeat
But the President made it so, and Kunikida was ready to attack if he even thought about denying the order. Plus, it could be like another Atsushi around (another person to pass work off too) so that was a win!
And another person to annoy Kunikida too
You looked so pure and innocent. Are you sure that youâre in the right place?Â
He genuinely thought you were a lost kid when you came up to him the first time lmao
Geez, you even sound sweet too! How has this world not damage or corrupt you yet?
âHi Mr. Dazai! Itâs nice to meet you. I hope that we can make a great team, and that Iâm here to help if you need anything!â
âNice to meet you too. And now that you mention it, these reports have been giving me a hard time...â
Not gonna lie, he did take advantage of your help. You offered, so why not? He thought you were gonna get sick of it soon and start complaining, but nope
You took his reports and did it with no hesitation every time. And you always handed it to him with a bright smile. On top of that, you always cleaned up his area and behind him, you did any leftover work that he ignored forgot to do so that he wouldnât get yelled at, and tried to bring him small snacks and even packed a whole lunch for him when you noticed that he didnât eat a lot
He even started to feel pretty bad and he was getting disapproving looks from his fellow detectives (even Kenji, and he never frowns)
So he started to take back and *GASP* actually do his work?!
But you stopped him, and told him that he should, âTake it easy! You work hard enough as it is saving the city. Itâs no problem doing these reports, and I want to help you in any way I can, Mr. Dazai.â
â(Y/N), donât worry, I can do them. And remember itâs just Dazai, calling me Mister makes me feel old like Kunikida-â
âI HEARD THAT!âÂ
And it seemed like you really cared for his wellbeing, especially when you had to accompany him on missions
Well, it just so happen that while you were going with Atsushi to find Dazai to start a mission, you both found him
Hanging upside down, sinking to the bottom of the lake
You rushed into the water immediately, pulling him out and onto the ground while Atsushi was just standing there in disbelief
Atsushi is so done with his shit
âDazai, can you hear me?! Dazai?! Atsushi, I gotta give him CPR I donât think heâs-â
â(Y/N) donât worry heâs okay! This isnât his first time heâs done this, and probably not the last.â
âW-what do you mean?â
Oh
Oh
You didnât know about Dazaiâs suicide methods? Did he not tell you or talk about it in front of you? Atsushi would have been somewhat proud of him if this whole situation didnât happen, but here we are
âGeez, guess this method isnât for me. It seems like someone is bound to always inter- hm, (Y/N)? What are doing out of the office? Whatâs wrong? Why are you crying?â
You hugged his chest tightly, not caring that he was practically soaked down to the bone
âPlease stop, Dazai! Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to leave everyone?! Why are you trying to leave ME?!â
That got his attention
âYour life is important, Dazai, too important to try and end it on your own terms! Youâre special to me, I look up to you. Youâre smart, funny, and you help everyone out in your own special way. If you werenât here anymore, everyone would be so lost...I would be so lost..,I-I-I wouldnât know what to do-â
â(Y/N)-â
You looked up, eyes red and puffy with tears rolling down your cheeks, but filled with determination
âI promise you that I will make sure you know how much you matter to everyone. I swear on my life that I will.â
Okay, so you know how you were helpful/adorable before? On a scale of 1-10, you were definitely at an 11. But Dazai felt like you were at a 20
At first, he thought that you werenât being genuine. You were just a young kid who didnât know any better and was just trying to do your job, in sickeningly, oversweet way. I mean, who would really care about him with his horrid past? He was convinced that you were just naĂŻve, and that the world would swallow you whole when it gets the chance. And it made him feel pity for you
But you proved him wrong
You werenât just some ignorant child. You were in this agency working alongside him for a reason. And you reminded him of that everyday when he saw you working, handling the cases, taking actions on missions, all the while being kindhearted through and throughÂ
You especially went out of way for him, and it was both a warm and scary feeling. People that he ended up caring for shared an undeserving fate, and he blamed himself for it constantly. So he tried to keep his distance, for your safety. You still had a life to live, and he didnât want to ruin that for you.
But it was kinda hard to when you work together, and with you constantly being under his wing trying to show him the good in life and the difference that he made, he couldnât help but admit it
You proved him wrong, and not a lot of people can say that.Â
You went out of your way to make sure that everyone was okay, mentally and physically. He didnât want to admit it, but you made the office (and his life) a little bit more bearable when you were around. Youâre a good kid. And it was so fun to rope you and sometimes Atsushi into his schemes lmao yâall can be so gullible sometimes
Unfortunately, he still planned to leave this world, but he tried not to talk about it in front of or around you, and his number of attempts did dwindle, so that was a good thing
âHey (Y/N), letâs grab something to eat, I would be a terrible person if I let my dear little baby assistant go hungry.â
âDazai, if youâre hungry, you can just say that. I donât mind finishing this later. Itâs good to eat when you need to, and your health is #1 priority!â
He couldnât take back his past and the way he abused Akutagawa, but he could certainly make sure that he doesnât make the same mistakes
And that would start with being a decent role model for you. He wonât exactly be a âmodel citizenâ, but he will always do the right thing. Heâs turned over a new leaf by turning to the light, and while his methods arenât always legal, he wonât stray from it again
And he wonât let you stray either
Ranpo
He was not a happy camper at all, let me tell you
Hello, do you know who he is?? Heâs the greatest detective in the world! Why would the President think he need a sidekick?! He saw you working under him as an insult. Were they trying to say that he wasnât good enough on his own?!
You werenât exactly welcome with open arms, but that was okay! You were a complete stranger to him, but you were hoping that would change overtime
And Fukuzawa offered to praise him if he took you in so he stopped pouting momentarily
âHi Mr. Ranpo! Iâve heard great things about you, and I hope that we can get along!â
âWell, of course youâve heard great things about me, Iâm the greatest detective in the world! It would be a crime if you didnât hear about me.â
It was a rocky start between you guys to say the least. Not only was he lazy with the work he already had (I mean, it was too easy for him), but you were always willing to complete it (which you did, when you realized that maybe he was too tired or had other important things to worry about)
Who are you trying to fool, this man was just being lazyÂ
But you either didnât realize it or you just purposely ignored it to get it done for the sake of the agency. Bless your pure heart for putting up with that poutyfaceÂ
Despite that, you handled everything with positivity and pride. When discussing cases (even though he would solve it in under a minute), you already had the reports ready to go, took notes for him, and you even tidied up his desk (which really consisted of his snack pile)
And you were starting to grow on him. You were like his mini cheerleader/#1 fan. His ego was going through the roof
On missions, it was a piece of cake for him, duh! With his ability, Super Deduction, it was always easy. And you were in the background, in awe with everything going on. He wanted to say he was surprised, but he would be lying. It would be a downright lie if you said you werenât impressed with his ability and with him in general.
You repeatedly praised him, and he always gave you the same response:Â
âWorldâs greatest detective, remember?â
The one thing that would cause him to see you in a new light, was when he got lost. You remembered Kunikida mentioning that he wasnât the best at navigating the train system
He really said that Ranpo didnât even know how to read the schedule, and that someone had to always walk with him to make sure he was going to the right places.Â
He just wanted to go back to the office to his beloved snacks, when this happened. He wasnât stupid by any means, but it was a waste to use his ability on something trivial as this-
âMr. Ranpo! Wait for me!â
Just as he knew, you were running late meeting him
âHey (Y/N) what took you so long?! My beloved snacks are calling for me back at the agency, and I need to answer-â
âDonât worry, I packed you some!â
âYeah, I already knew that since thatâs the reason youâre late. And before you ask, you look out of breath, the receipt is still crumpled in your hand, and I see some crumbs from something you already ate on your clothes.â
Huh. Was it that obvious? You guess so...
Or maybe Ranpo really is the worldâs greatest detective!
âI know, I know. Iâm the best, no need to tell-ââ
âMr. Ranpo, you deserve all the praise that you get. Youâre someone I want to be like when I get older.â
âHm?â, there you go praising him again, but you were crying
âI feel like people donât take you seriously like they should, Just because you don't fight like the others doesnât mean that youâre not a valuable asset to the group! And I wish people saw you like how I do! Youâre my inspiration to do my best everyday. And I know that I canât be the best detective, but I want to be as strong and intelligent and brave just like you so I can save people and be a motivating hero like you!â
Heâs silent, and your words are sinking in. Youâre wiping away your tears, the start of an apology on the tip of your tongue, when he suddenly put his hand on top of your head
Heâs staring right at you, glasses on and green eyes open for you to see
âYouâre already on your way there (Y/N). That I know. And Iâm never wrong with my deductions, let alone when using my ability.â
The flood gates have OPENEDÂ
You know that he doesnât technically have an ability, but that doesnât stop you from accepting his words and finding them as the truth. If Ranpo said it, he meant it. He was the worldâs greatest detective, and you didnât have any doubt in him
âNow letâs go, itâs going to start raining and I donât want us to be hungry and drenched. Plus, Kunikida is totally freaking out and thinking that weâre both lost and in some criminalâs hideout right now.â
After that fateful day, the dynamic shifted between you two. Instead of you just doing the work, he pushed it off on someone else so he could explain to you about the different cases he had to solve, and other detective matters
Really he was just bragging and having you both slack off, but it didnât matter you guys were still having fun
It even got to a point where he shared some snacks with you from his sacred snack pile
BOY WAS THAT THE TALK OF THE OFFICEÂ
All in all, while he knew that you couldnât be the greatest detective (that was his title after all), he would help you get to your goal regardless. Not that you would need a lot of extra help, he was watching over you after all, and you already have a good head on your shoulders along with the heart of a hero
Every Sherlock needs a Watson, and he deducted that it wasnât too bad having you by his side

"Keiko-- Keiko, it's two PM!" I said into the phone, sending an apologetic look to my coworkers. "And I'm at work. You can't be calling me, especially when you're drunk so early in the day."
"Uggghhhh, you're so mean!" I sighed softly at Keiko's response, the office phone on my desk beginning to ring.
"Keiko, I have to go now, I'm sorry! Call Taichi and tell him to bring you home."
"Wait-"
I ended the call, rubbing my eyebrows as I picked up the other phone. "Armed Detective Agency, how may I help you?"
It's been around three months since I've started working at the Agency, and I have to say, it was a pretty great job. It paid well, kept me on my toes with the many different cases we took on, and my coworkers were great... despite how weird they were.
"That's like the seventh time your friend called you this week," Ranpo spoke up from his desk, the man literally surrounded by snack wrappers.
I sighed deeply, rubbing my eyebrows. "I know, I'm sorry everyone. She's not usually like this... I know she likes to drink, but... never to this extent."
"Maybe there is something going on?" the cute Atsushi suggested and I frowned. "Maybe you can try to find out?"
"It wouldnât be wise to just push yourself into someone's private life like that," Kunikida added and I nodded in agreement.
Of course I couldn't. Not with who her boyfriend was. I was her best friend, but even I knew not to step in. "Besides, she always says she's okay when I ask..." I said thoughtfully, too distracted to continue my work. I could believe her, right? Besides, she had Taichi. He loved her, and always made sure that she was protected and taken care of. He always made sure to be around her when he wasn't away, keeping her to his side at all times. I thought maybe he was being a bit too protective, but I also understood because of his... profession.
"Alright, alright, we have a schedule, people. Let's not get too distracted here," Kunikida exclaimed and I laughed softly. The only one with a schedule was the super punctual man himself, but I still went on to do my work.
"Speaking of work..." I started, unimpressed as I Iooked to the empty desk across the office. "Where the hell is Dazai?"
Atsushi just hung his head and sighed, Kunikida gritting his teeth at his desk. "I tried calling him but he wouldn't pick up," Atsushi sighed again and I huffed, standing up from my desk. "I'll take my 30 now. I'll be in the cafe and I'll try to get Dazai to bring his scrawny ass to work."
The Agency was on the fourth floor of the building while the cafe was down on the first, very convenient for me. I was lazy and the coffee and food was good. I dialed up Dazai's number as I descended the four flights of stairs, pressing my phone to my ear.
At the top of one flight, I stopped when I heard a familiar ring tone blare out, and when I looked down to the bottom of the stairs, I saw the man of the hour. His brown hair was wavy as ever, his signature tanned jacket looking immaculate. I watched as he just looked at his phone, watching it ring before he put his phone in his pocket.
I hated him. "So you were just gonna ignore me?!" I shouted down the stairs. Dazai whipped his head up, eyes going comically wide.
"Bella!" he exclaimed, practically running up the stairs right towards me. I gasped and back away quickly, back hitting the wall as Dazai caged me between his bandaged arms. His forehead pressed against mine and I will my face not to burn as he looked at me with those pretty brown eyes of his. "I missed you."
My heart skipped a beat, my mouth going dry. Still, I glared up at the man. "We just saw each other yesterday," I gritted my teeth, trying to ignore the feeling of his soft breath against my face. I was thankful my voice didn't crack. "And you have plenty of paperwork to do still on your desk."
"Ehhh, I'm tired and I'm busy," Dazai nonchalantly waved that off, now standing away from me and waving his hand dismissively. "Got better things to do."
I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest. "Yeah? Like what?"
With that, Dazai took my hands in his, a hopeful look on his face. Here we go again. "Double suicide."
"No." I immediately declined him. "My answer is still the same as it was last week."
Dazai visibly deflated, covering his eyes dramatically. "Sweet death... she evades me yet again..."
"Yeah," I deadpanned, brushing past Dazai and heading down the stairs. "Anyway. I'm heading to the cafe to get something to eat."
"Oh!" Dazai exclaimed, hooking my arm with his as he quickly came up to my side. "I'll go with you!"
"You have work to do!" I yelled at him, trying to push him back up the stairs. "Go before Kunikida has an aneurysm."
"But I don't wanna!" Dazai whined, quickly turning the tables on me. Now he was behind me, his arms wrapped around me and pinning my arms to my chest. I felt his breath against my left ear and I shivered deeply. "I wanna spend time with you..." he whispered softly, his voice dropping. I bit my bottom lip, looking over at him over my shoulder. I shivered again, the usual brightness in his eyes gone. I've only seen that look on his face a handful of times, and it never failed to make me feel completely on edge. Like I was in danger.
I liked it.
"Ugh," I sneered, rolling my eyes and shaking myself out of his arms. "Fine, fine. I'll treat today, okay?"
"Yay!" Dazai's jovial nature returned as he followed me to the cafe. I shake my head at the strange duality of the man. We sat across from each other, the redheaded waitress named Lucy that obviously had a crush on Atsushi giving us some menus.
As I looked over the menu, I looked over at Dazai, the man humming as he mulled over his choices. I bit the inside of my cheek, just feeling that maybe there was more to Dazai than he let on.
The weekend soon arrived and I was in a bit of a sour mood. I was at the boardwalk, sitting on an empty bench after getting off the phone with Keiko. We were supposed to spend the day together, but she had called me thirty-minutes late, all of a sudden saying that she couldn't make it.
Her tone of voice worried me, she sounded rushed and breathless, totally unlike her. "I'm okay. I'm sorry for flaking out so suddenly," she said before she ended the call. I blinked at the screen, a bit put off by the entire thing. Just what was up with her?
Though I couldn't dwell on it, for there was a presence behind me. "Well, well, look what we have here," a teasing voice whispered into my ear before blowing into it. I shrieked, jumping off the bench before spinning around.
"Dazai!" I hissed at the laughing man standing on the other side of the bench. "You scared the crap out of me!"
"Bet it got your heart pumping, huh," Dazai hummed happily, skipping around the bench and right over to me. "Bella, I missed you~" he hugged me tightly in his arms. I sighed deeply, half-heartedly wrapping my arms around him in return and giving him a pat on the back.
"We saw each other yesterday."
"Eighteen hours is too long, bella."
I rolled my eyes, pulling away from the huge and giving Dazai a look. "You're so dramatic, dude," I say with a laugh, shaking my head. "What are you doing here?"
"Hmm, well I thought this would be a great place to think about how to commit suicide," Dazai began and I gave him another look. "But, I saw my bella looking so sad and lonely! I just had to rush to comfort her!"
Dazai hugged me again, squeezing me tight. I let out a struggling breath, writhing a bit in his hold. "You're killing me!"
"Oh! Let's commit do-"
"No, oh my God!"
I turned and stormed away from the suicidal man, shaking my head when I heard him call out for me. "Bella, wait!" He latched onto my arm, pressing his cheek against mine. "Tell me what's wrong. I am your trusted friend and coworker~"
"More like trusted pain in my ass," I mumbled before sighing, walking over to the boardwalk railing and staring out into the ocean. "It's Keiko. She was supposed to be with me today, but she just called and canceled..." I frowned deeply, eyebrows pinched in worry.
"What else did she say?" Dazai asked quietly, having gone serious once he saw the look in my face. "How did she seem?"
"Off..." I answered immediately before I looked over at my companion. "Or am I just imagining things? Yeah, I'm disappointed she flaked out but...." I hung my head. "I don't know..."
"Well, it could be nothing," Dazai suggested. "Or it could be something. There's no way for you to know."
I made a face at his vague ass answer before sighing again. "I can only trust her. She was the first friend I made when I moved to Japan, and I was excited to see her today. I've been having a rough time lately."
"Is something bothering you?" Dazai asked, and I shivered feeling his gaze on me.
"Eh... just depressed," I answered offhandedly. "Lonely. Normal sad girl shit, ya know."
That made Dazai snicker under his breath. "Yeah, I know. But luckily for you," Dazai started, arm draping around my shoulders and pulling me to him. "I'm here to save the day!"
I couldn't help it, I laughed before I wrapped my arm around his middle, letting him hold me against him. "You'll hang out with me today?"
Dazai grinned. "It would be my pleasure."
Time flew by so quickly, that I was surprised to look at my phone and see that it was damn near seven in the evening. Gaping, I looked up, seeing that the sky was slowly turning dark. "Holy crap, Dazai. Did we really spend the whole day out here?" I asked in shock, looking over at him. "What the hell did we do?!"
"What didn't we do," Dazai whined, slumping against me. "I'm tired... and you still wanna ride the stupid ferris wheel!"
"It's not stupid," I said with a pout. "Besides... we're already in line."
"Meh," Dazai grumbled, still keeping his body pressed against me as we waited in line. He was behind me, his chin pressed on my shoulder. I tried not to shiver as I felt his breath along my neck.
Soon enough, we were in our carriage and slowly riding up to the top. I took a few pictures as we did so, Dazai looking over in amazement.
"You think the drop from up here would kill me?"
"Yeah, and would scar everyone here."
"Oh yeah... can't have that."
I rolled my eyes, glancing over at him and pausing for a bit. Dazai was still looking out over Yokohama, an expression I've never seen before on his face. He almost looked... sad. Very handsome, his side profile absolutely perfect. But he still looked sad. I took a quick picture, smiling as I looked over it on my phone.
The carriage stopped and I couldn't help but grin as we just swayed softly up in the air. "Thanks for spending the day with me, Dazai. It would have sucked if I had spent it alone."
"Ahh, don't sweat it, bella. I couldn't possibly leave you out here alone," Dazai answered dramatically and I laughed and rolled my eyes.Â
I felt a vibration in my pocket and I grabbed my phone, smiling at the cute selfie that Keiko sent to me.
'I'm so sorry for bailing! I'll make it up to you, I promise! †mwuah'
"Is that Keiko?" Dazai asked and I nodded, sending her a quick reply.
"Yeah. She seems to be doing okay," I said, feeling a bit relieved.
"That's great!" Dazai exclaimed, getting up from his spot and carefully making his way to sit beside me, much to my horror.
"Dazai! We're not supposed to move around!"
"We're fine!" he waved me off dismissively. "Now you can stop worrying about Keiko and focus on what's important. Me."
I raised my eyebrows at him. "You?"
Dazai hummed. "Yes, me. And how I'm taking you home tonight."
My jaw drops, face heating up at his words. "Wh-what are you talking about?"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," Dazai answered, his voice dropping a bit as his gaze and entire mood changed. His gaze was darker now, his lips curled up in an almost dangerous smirk. "I think it's time we stop tiptoeing around each other and just take what we really want."
My mouth went dry and I quickly became flustered, turning my head away. Immediately, a hand is grabbing my face, Dazai digging his fingers into my cheeks as he forces me to look back at him.
"Nuh uh, you look at me when I'm speaking."
His authoritative tone makes me freeze, heart pounding in my chest as I stared at Dazai, completely bewildered. I knew there was something more about him than he had let on, and whatever it was, had me in fight or flight mode.
"Now, when we're done here, we're gonna leave and head back to my place, okay?" he asked me, but his tone made it seem like it wasn't a request, and it sure as hell didn't match the seemingly innocent smile on his face; not when it didn't reach his eyes.
I nodded, Dazai removing his hand from my face. His smile sent shivers down my spine.
"Good."
"Mmn... fuck, Dazai..." I moaned and gasped softly, the man on top of me littering my neck with angry red and purple marks, two of his fingers working inside my pussy. I was completely naked on his bed, Dazai only in his underwear-- and his bandages still wrapped around his arms and chest.
"Hey, what did I tell you?" Dazai whispered against my neck, curling his fingers and smirking when I cried out. "Call me Osamu. Don't make me tell you again."
I frantically nodded my head, crying out again as he sped up the pace of his fingers, his mouth moving down to my chest. "F-fuck, Osamu!"
"That's it," he whispered, taking one of my hardened nipples into his mouth. My fingers curled into his soft brown hair, head tilting back and eyes screwing shut as Dazai continued to pleasure my body.
It wasn't long until he pushed his hard cock into my wet pussy, the both of us groaning at the feeling of us finally connecting. I was on my knees and elbows, pillow placed under my hips. Dazai started out slowly, biting his lip as he watched his dick disappear inside of me.
"Fuck... I'm gonna burn this sight into my memory," Dazai groaned, making me whine as I shook my head.
"D-don't stare like that..."
Dazai chuckled softly, his hands grabbing my hips as he started to move faster, thrusting harder. I moaned and whined, it seemed to be the only thing I could do while Dazai fucked the shit outta me. "Osamu... please..."
My whining made the man above me grin widely, his thrusts becoming rougher, almost wild as he suddenly reached out and grabbed a handful off my hair. I yelped when he yanked me up, my back now pressed against his chest and his other hand wrapped around my throat.
"What is it, bella?" he hissed into my ear, pounding away at my pussy and making me cry out again. God, it was too much all at once. "What does my pretty little subordinate want?"
I whined. "I want to cum... please Osamu..."
He cackled, pushing me back on the bed, grabbing my hips so hard, I knew I was gonna bruise. "Cum then," he hissed down at me, pushing my face into the mattress. He fucked me relentlessly, fingers finding my clit and rubbing harsh circles. That made my vision go white, my scream muffled as I came hard, body going rigid as pleasure overtook my body.
"Shit, you're squeezing me so tight," Dazai grunted. He pulled out, ignoring my whines as he stepped off the bed. "Get on your back."
I barely rolled over halfway until there was a strong grip on my ankle, my body being pulled down the length of the bed. Dazai stood at the end, wasting no time in pushing my legs back by the back of my knees, and plunging his cock back into me.
I looked up at him through teary eyes, and I knew I should have been afraid of the mad look that was in his eyes, the way his lips were curled up in a snarl. But it just made my pussy clench around him in arousal, eyes rolling to the back of my head.
I came a second time as he did his first, and much to my ultimate pleasure, we weren't finished there. We pleasured each other through the night, until we wore each other out and fell asleep entangled in the sheets.
I woke up the next morning, groaning in pain as I felt my body ache. I forced myself to sit up, looking around blearily and humming softly when I found Dazai sitting on the edge of the bed, his bare back to me.
"Good morning," he sang to me and I giggled softly, carefully moving to kneel behind him. The blankets fell from around me and I pressed my bare chest against his back. "Hm, that's nice."
"Morning," I said softly, peeking over his shoulder. "What are you do-"
I stop, staring as Dazai wrapped seemingly clean bandages on his heavily scarred left arm. I swallowed thickly, my mind running at what could have possibly been the cause of those scars.
But deep down, I knew that the cause was Dazai himself.
"Do... Do you have enough?" I asked softly, not knowing what else to even say. I didn't want to pry or seem insensitive, just having to get over this metaphorical punch in the gut myself.
"Yeah, I'm fine!" Dazai answered, turning to face me with a cheery smile on his face. In a matter of seconds, I was flat on my back, Dazai on top of me with his lips pressed against mine. It was easy for him to make me forget about what I saw, his kisses stealing my breath away.
"I have to go," he said softly, pushing himself off me after a moment.
I nodded solemnly, watching him continue to get dressed. "Alright. See you at work tomorrow?"
He smirked at me. "You know the answer to that."
I rolled my eyes again, just as my phone started to ring. I grabbed it, sending Dazai a quick smile before answering the call.
"Hey Keiko, guess who got fucking laid." That made Dazai snort while I grinned, though my grin fell as I didn't hear Keiko go off like I thought she would. "Keiko?" I shared a look with Dazai.
"Hey... I need you. Can I come over?"

I would like to request a scenario where Dazai and Atsushi comfort a fem reader who is being hospitalized because of asthma. I've been having problems and would really appreciate some comfort. Thank you for reading and thank you if you write for this!
a/n: i hope you're doing much better and even though i'm late, i hope it can still bring you a little comfort or at least some fluffđ
"another job done during the afternoon. we're perfectly on schedule," kunikida said while writing in his book.
dazai rested his hands behind his head. "too bad. i purposely went slow on them."
"yOu- i don't care. the job is finished right on time and.."
the sound of dazai's phone kindly interrupted his partner from ending his sentence. dazai grinned when he saw your name on the screen. "ah, that's y/n! she must have felt how annoying you became and is now calling to save me." your significant other picked up the phone and greeted you lovely.
however, he could easily sense that something was off by the way you said dazai's name. "i need you. dazai, i- i need you. i'm at the hospital." you started to sniffle.
even though dazai's heart was painfully bonking against his chest, he mentioned to stay calm. "love, calm yourself down. tell me what happened."
"i had an asthma attack this morning and even my inhaler couldn't help me. the doctors said they want to keep me here for a few hours, just for my safety. and i know you're working but- i need you, dazai."
dazai, who became numb after he heard how unsafe you must have felt in your own body, added warmth to his voice when he said he would come immediately.
kunikida looked at his partner. "dazai? is everything okay with y/n?"
as response, dazai turned his back towards kunikida and started to walk away. dazai tried to make his voice sound unbothered. "she needs me. you have to finish without me today."
now, kunikida would have yelled at his partner if it wasn't for dazai's facial expression. he and dazai didn't always share the same ideas, but kunikida could tell dazai was not the one to mess with if the spark in his eyes had died.
and kunikida was right. dazai ran the minute he was out of his partners sight. you see, behind that numb expression hit fear, the forever fear to lose the one person who made him see the worth in living.
__
after dazai had stepped out of the cap, he had taken a few seconds to collect his feelings. showing any sense of worry, panic or fear wouldn't do both of you any good. he had to show his casual charm to convince you that everything was going to be all right.
so, when dazai walked into your room his face was decorated with an attractive smile on his lips.
yet dazai found himself unable to talk seeing how vulnerable you looked. words weren't needed though. the spark in your eyes when you saw him made him convinced that his presence was enough to make you feel assured.
"you gave me quite enough of a good reason to leave kunikida alone, love. although i do appreciate the sacrifice, i prefer for you to not do that again."
you smiled. "i'm glad i could be of service to you."
dazai took a sit next to your bed and grabbed your hand softly. his thumb carefully stroke your skin. "is there anything we could do to prevent a situation like this from happening again?"
"one of the doctors will discuss it with me later in the afternoon. thankfully, my symptoms have decreased. so, it's going to be okay."
your significant other started to stare intensely into your eyes, not breaking any eye contact with you. dazai brought your hand to his lips and kissed it gently.
"in that case, don't scare me like that ever again or i might keep you next to my side forever. and trust me, kunikida is a pain in the ass to have around."
you smiled. "everything is better when you are around."
dazai closed his eyes and he allowed himself to smile for a second. when he looked up at you again, his eyes held softness in them. "you must have lacked a lot of oxygen to think that."
"or you have a lack of common sense to not realize it's true. at least, for me it's true."
dazai bent over you and put his hand on the place where your heart was hidden. "it was worse than i thought. i'm glad i came on time. i should give you mouth to mouth now it's not too late."
"i don't think that's how it works-"
dazai's lips tenderly brushed yours. "that's exactly how it works, my love."
and he kissed you.
"is it coming up yet?" dazai asked.
atsushi let out a soft groan. "i don't mean to sound ungrateful, dazai, but- isn't it your task to fill in these reports?"
"oh my- atsushi!" dazai gasped. "don't tell me you want to tell me that you try to tell me that you don't see this as an important learning process?"
"no, no! i- it's very informative. i have almost finished it." atsushi blushed and started to type ahead. your significant other was almost done when his phone started to ring.
"you might want to take that one immediately, atsushi. it's y/n," ranpo announced.
"oh? then it must be very important." and undoubtedly, ranpo was right. it was your name that appeared on atsushi's screen.
"hey y/n, is there anything you need? ranpo said that you-"
"please, can you come to the hospital? one of my asthma attacks was really bad and- i want you here with me, atsushi."
atsushi's eyes widen from shock. "of course i'm coming. immediately. it won't take me long. just, tell me that you are okay?"
after you reassured your significant other that you were okay he finally hang up.
"dazai, ranpo, i have to go. it's y/n. i have to be with here now." and with that, atsushi ran at full speed out of the armed detective energy building right to the hospital.
__
it took all of atsushi's strength to walk calmly into your hospital room. seeing you lying there so vulnerable- a protective feeling blossomed in his chest.
"atsushi!" you said while holding your hand out to him. "you came."
atsushi immediately grabbed your hand carefully. "of course. how are you feeling, honey?"
"much better, but still a little frightened."
atsushi squeezed your hand in an attempt to make you feel less alone. "i understand, but you are okay now. i'm here with you. what did the doctors say?"
"that they want to talk to me before they release me. probably to discuss what happened and how we can prevent it from happening again."
"good. i'm glad."
you looked at how atsushi's thumb started to caress your hand. a smile appeared on your face. finally, you felt peaceful for the first time since the asthma attack happened. "that feels nice."
atsushi blushed but kept continuing his action. "it's what you always do to comfort me. i guess- i guess i took it over from you."
"oh, really? what else did you take over from me""
your significant other hesitated for a moment. "well, you always caresses my cheeks."
"show me." and so, atsushi did. his touch felt soft and tender, like he was afraid you would break beneath him.
looking into your eyes, it triggered something in him; the desire to have you always with him. "this may never happen again, okay? i- i don't think i can handle it when this happens again."
"i promise."
"good."
"maybe we should seal it with a kiss? you know, to make it official," you innocently teased.
atsushi again started to blush, but without hesitation he kissed the tip of your nose. atsushi's felt a rush of warmth spreading through his body when he felt your hands cupping his cheeks. and when he felt your lips on his, he felt like he could finally allow himself to calm down.
"promised."

"You want to know what death is? I'll tell you. Death is the loss of life. Despite everything doctors like me attempt... a patient's life can still fall through our fingers. You think death lies in the apex of science? Anyone with such little regard for life will die by my hand."
Character Analysis: Yosano Akiko
Age: 25 || Ability: Thou Shalt Not Die
BSD CHAPTER CHAPTER 65-66 SPOILERS
table of contents:
1. Author counterpart.
2. Yosano's history.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
YOSANO BRAINROT!*(#&!*@#($
1. Author counterpart.
Having been given the âSho Hoâ at birth, Yosano Akikoâs counterpartâthe real-life authorâwas known for her zealous take on both feminism and pacifism.
Side note: Once again, to avoid confusion, I will use the name Sho Ho in reference to the real-life author, and Yosano in reference to the BSD character.
Sho Ho's writings were pretty much out-of-the-ordinary in her time, and despite being suppressed by the social norms of gender hierarchy, she sought to reform societyâs view on the cultural perspectives of women and their sexuality (She expressed her love for a woman in one of her poems, but many still argued on whether she identified herself as queer or not.)
"Thou Shalt Not Die," Yosano's ability, is actually named after one of Sho Ho's most famous, controversial poems. She wrote it for her brother, who was a soldier in the war between Russia and Japan (1904-1905). In her poem, she expressed her general distaste for war and how her brother was a part of it.
O my young brother, I cry for you
Don't you understand you must not die!
You who were born the last of all
Command a special store of parents' love
Would parents place a blade in children's hands
Teaching them to murder other men
Teaching them to kill and then to die?
Have you so learned and grown to twenty-four?
- excerpt from Sho Ho's poem, "Kimi Shinitamou Koto Nakare"
Her words were blunt enough to inflict guilt on her brother's conscience, as she wasn't afraid to express her disapproval over how her brother took part in the typical violent bloodshed and manslaughter of war. Such opinions perturbed the authorities, and her work was eventually banned from the public for a period of time. Later on, it was used as an anti-war statement.
2. Yosano's history.
Now, as for the character in BSD, Yosano is seen to be generally strong-willed, and later on, we see that she is terrifyingly compassionately ambitious in the way she treats her patients. She treasured life itself, and hated the thought of losing a patient.
Yosano had developed her relations with Mori Ougai back in the Great War, when she was just 11 years old. Her ability was a great benefactor in saving lives. Realistically speaking, she was used for her ability to heal injured soldiers and diminish the effect of any casualty acquired.
Initially, she wasn't aware of this, until one of her close friends pointed it out by subtly accusing Mori of manipulating her to participate in the War under the close-to false pretence of 'saving lives.'
As much as her ability did save lives, it also forced soldiers to return to the frontlines and suffer injuries over and over again. The soldiers were never given the opportunity to return to their families because of her ability. This obliged them to carry on in the war without any excuse, inserting them into a vicious cycle they had no escape out of.
Metaphorically speaking, Yosano's hatred for Mori sort of mirrors Sho Ho's disdain for war and fighting, don't you think? The way Kafka materialised Yosano's past was quite interesting because he used chapters 65 and 66 to explain Yosano's dislike for Mori, reflecting how Sho Ho used her poem to explain why she condemned the idea of war and how her brother was part of it.
Before the effect of her ability was fully understood, however, every soldier praised and thanked her for what an angel she was. One of the soldiers she had befriended and gotten close to even kept a tally of the number of times she had saved him. He was the one who gifted her the butterfly hairpin she wore all the time.
The weight of the truth that her ability was a curse rather than a blessing fully dawned on her when her soldier friend ultimately committed suicide, because the fact of being indefinitely trapped in the throes of war agonised him until his spirit gave out. This drove Yosano to loathe her ability, or rather, how it was used.
In the time she participated in the War, Yosano was given the alias 'angel of death' due to the control she retained over the battlefield, but I thought that perhaps Kafka had a reason behind giving her this title, so I did my research.
3. 'Angel of Death' defined.
Side note: I wouldn't want to disrespect any culture or religion, so if my citations are inaccurate and/or disrespectful, do feel free to correct me/let me know! I did research out of pure curiosity, and I don't intend to twist the significance of any of the interpretations.
I had to grow up learning about the basics of religious stuff, so it's kind of nice to study something out of the box, and very much against my father's rigid belief system :D
ARCHANGEL ARIEL
(archangel: an angel of higher rank)
I came across the few characteristics of angels/goddesses and their roles, and the one which really caught my attention was the female archangel, Ariel, the angel of nature.
[ source ]
In Hebrew, the name Ariel means 'altar' or 'lioness of God,' and her role is to heal. In addition to that, she is also recognised as a helper to another one of the seven main archangels, Raphael, whose role is to provide physical and emotional healing, too.
She is the protecter of the environment and the animals therein, and is bestowed with the duty to oversee the order of heavenly bodies as well as earth's natural resources. She assures the sustenance of food, water, shelter, and supplies of human beings, much like how a nurse is to a patient I suppose.
In relation to Yosano, I think this part is pretty self-explanatory, or perhaps this is blown out of proportion HA, so take this as a suggestion rather than a fact, because I'd like to believe that Kafka had a reason for giving Yosano a title as such.
In the past, I've come across the angel of death only to perceive it as a female grim reaper of some sort, so it was pretty cool to find that the word 'angel' and 'death' made up a title of a someone like Ariel, one of the purest forms of humility and compassion.
GREEK GODDESS PANAKEIA
For my beloved (wannabe/or not) students of Greek mythology (much like myself, let's make a cult!), you've probably heard of Panakeia, the goddess of healing. Medicine finds most of its vital significance in Greek history, and in its mythology, Panakeia is actually known for her ability to heal any kind of sickness.
[ source ]
Her name means 'panacea,' which is actually defined as a remedy for all diseases. Terminal diseases and injuries lead to death, right? This would bring us back to Yosano's ability to nullify any injury's effects on a person, keeping them from death itself.
Now, we know that in order for Yosano's ability to work, her patient, or victim, has to be in a near-death condition in order for her treatment to take effect. This can't exactly fit into the description of resurrection, but it can be described as some sort of rebirth.
GREEK GODDESS PERSEPHONE
So another goddess which reminds me of Sho Ho/Yosano, is Persephone, the goddess of spring and rebirth. Before Hades, the god of the underworld, fell in love with Persephone to take her to live with him, Persephone lived a happy life.
Hades, with his nature of darkness and the like, was captivated by how pure Persephone was, and stole her away from her former life to live in an environment which differed sharply from her natural aura of purity.
[ source ]
Remember when Yosano's friend left a note behind before he killed himself? The note said nothing except for, "You are too righteous." Take that as you will, but figuratively speaking, you could say Mori takes the role of Hades in the story, while Yosano can be portrayed as Persephone.
Sho Ho can also be a parallel of Persephone, in that she had to adapt to the realities of war and disharmony, while Persephone had to adapt to the raw darkness of the underworld with Hades.
Sho Ho stood against society's norms and decided to reform it, making her one of the most well-known feministic pacifist in history, while Persephone managed to escape from the underworld to return to her former position, earning the title the 'Bringer of Life,' or the 'Destroyer of Death.'
Furthermore, the way Sho Ho's anti-war poem took its effect later on, reflects the way Persephone restored balance in the world after returning from the underworld.
4. Yosano and Atsushi.
chapter 66; Yosano: "It's my fault that those close to me died... Is there some place where it's okay for me to live?"
chapter 8; Atsushi: "If I have any chance of saving them all, of returning them home safely, would that mean it's okay for me to keep on living?"
I couldn't help but think of Dazai and Atsushi back when I was reading through these panels. Ranpo (my beloved), along with Fukuzawa, accepted Yosano as she was, despite how her ability was a cause of despair and misfortune.
Ranpo looked past her mistakes and the entirety of how dark her past was to welcome her into the Armed Detective Agency. Dazai, on the other hand, knew who Atsushi was and what his ability had made him do before anyone else, and still decided to provide a safe place for Atsushi to find his sense of belonging, journeying with him as he learned to use his ability properly.
For more info about Dazai and Atsushi's dynamic, you can check out the analysis I did for Dazai :D
Atsushi desired to save people to prove his right to live, while Yosano made her wish to achieve the recovery of all her patients the reason for her existence.
Others would prefer to accuse both Yosano and Atsushi of having a saviour complex, but the reason why they pursued to save people with utmost dedication, stems from the nature of what their past was like. You know the saying 'from broken to beautiful?' Yeah, it's something like that.
The way their pasts were written out gave them a desire to change, which was, I daresay, initiated by the people who took them in: Ranpo and Dazai. Their abilities were demonised because of how they were used, but once they broke from their abilities' effect over their lives, they honed their skills to control them for the right cause instead.
In a less cynical point of view, I believe both Yosano and Atsushi stood for what was right, and wanted nothing but to achieve peace and harmony in whatever way they could, even if it meant risking their own lives to save others.
So yeah, that's it for my rants today. Thank you for reading, and if you have anything to add, go ahead! I'm open to discussions ;)

do you have any head canon about how the reunion between Dazai getting out of prison and Atsushi would be like?
Hmm...
I did a post that kinda answer to this question and what I really want to happenđ„șđ
BUT
BUT
BUT!
I read like three fanfics based of the hc of how they'll reunite...and it really touched my heartđâ€
Also the latest bsd WAN! ep destroyed me so we deserve the fluffđđ
SO...
Dazai POV
Once Dazai gets released or someone breaks him free.
The first thing that comes in his mind is: "Atsushi-kun"
Yup you heard me
Since Dazai was already helping a stressed Atsushi when he was in PRISON
I think he wants to see him in personal and face to face and makes sure that he is truly okay and safe
Ango suffered because Dazai's heart beat was just screaming "Atsushi-kun Atsushi-kun Atsushi-kun"
ANYway
Once everything is at peace again or maybe a little bit chaos and ADA proved their innocence
Dazai is just strolling around the city, hands in his pockets, and taking several deep breaths "We did it once again...Odasaku"
Yes I am bringing back the angst
Because Dazai wants to believe that he is truly a good personđ„ș
Aw
He decided to go to a specific special place to his heart
What place would that be i wonder?đ€
When he was standing infront of the special place
He saw a familiar long black belt and a shiny silver hair running towards him
"Atsushi-kun..."
Atsushi POV
Most of the people agree on this
That Atsushi is an open book
That he never hides his true feelings and inner thoughts and opinions
Or rather he is BAD at hiding it
Little baby
We must protect himđđ
I meant he literally LEPT at Kunikida to hug him
I love that scene with my whole SOUL
*Ahem* moving on
Obviously since Atsushi is seeing so many Dazai hallucination
He heard rumors about Dazai's release
And he wants to BELIEVE that its true not a lie
He really missed him and really can't wait to see him
Since he is the first person that he believed in Atsushi and protected him
Let's not forget that he literally cooked for him his fav food
Boyfriend instincts I guessđ€·đœââïž
Once he dealt with the mustache dude
Yeah I don't know his name oops
And HOPEFULLY Akutagawa is safe
Poor bbyđ„șđ
Any who
Atsushi started to help the gang too clean up the mess and stuff
Until Ranpo called him up
He told him to go to specific place and will found smth
But our oblivious sweet cinnamon roll Atsushi didn't know why but obeyed
So have any idea what place am talking about?đ
Dazatsu POV
Yup u guessed it
The famous river bank
That they the two fist met
With of course underneath the sunset sky
When Dazai arrived at the river
He chuckled to himself "am not drowning now... especially not now" "unless I want a specific beautiful weretiger to pull me out...again"
He still can't believe that its been months or maybe a year and a half(?) ago he met Atsushi
The boy that he saved from starve
The boy he will protect with whole his life
The boy that believed in Dazai and saved him numerous times
The boy who gave Dazai a reason to keep on living
And the boy who is Dazai's true happiness
Dazai smiled fondly at the last one
"Huh...I guess saving is way more beautiful than I thought it would be..."
This man truly needs a hug
From who you say?
Well~
"Dazai-san!"
Dazai glanced at the side and saw a familiar boy running towards him
"Ah...those beautiful sunset eyes that I truly missed and never get tired of" and smiled softly
Atsushi was running towards him like his life depends on it
Dazai was about to greet him with his usual cheerful greeting
But before he knew
He was tackled on the floor with bear hug from the one and only weretiger
Dazai blinked from the fast action
Atsushi buried his face onto Dazai's chest and hugging him tightly like he would disappear, body trembling heavily
Dazai chuckled one hand rubbing Atsushi's back and the other patting his head
Through Atsushi's heavy breathing and hard cries Dazai heard a small:
"...welcome back"
Dazai looked down and saw the beautiful teary sunset eyes looking straight at him with a soft and warm look
Dazai wiped his tears and said in a whisper:
"I'm back, Atsushi-kun"
When pulled away Atsushi was still looking at him with so much love
Dazai decided to tease him
"My, my Atsushi-kun i never knew you had a way to greet people how bold of you"
Atsushi flushed and ducked his head
"S-sorry about that, is just that..." looked back at him
Dazai's tilted his head in curiosity
"...I really missed you, Dazai-san"
Dazai eye widened from that, each tims he sees Atsushi training, eating, laughing, fighting, and most importantly believing in Dazai and trusts him
He thinks that this is all just a dream
And Atsushi was just an angel
That he thinks he doesn't deserve
'He really grew up alot, huh?'
He pats Atsushi's head and pulled into another hug that Atsushi flushed from but returned the hug burying his face onto Dazai's shoulder
"Thank you for waiting for me..Atsushi-kun",'and thank you Odasaku for giving me a reason to keep on living'
He tighten the hug which resulted Atsushi with questionable look
"Dazai-san?"
Dazai chuckled and let go but cupped Atsushi's cheek and looked with a soft and warm expression
"I'm fine wanna go and grab some lunched? Perhaps some chazuke?"
Atsushi's eyes sparked at that"CHAZUKE!"
They got up and Atsushi decided to hold his hand and intertwine their fingers blushing and smiling at Dazai and Dazai smiled back and off they went through the horizon

Pairing : Ranpo x Fem!Reader
A/N : WE BACK AT IT WITH THE SUPER SAD SHIT AND BY WE I MEAN ME! ITS SAD TIME! BIG SAD TIME! Ranpo deserves betters, yes I know, but I just want to make him sad. Iâm sorry <3Â

Angstember Day 11
Every day with Ranpo was the highlight of your life. He was sweeter than the candy he snacked on, he treated you like an absolute queen, and every queen needed her king and he was just that. He would do anything for you, he protected you with everything he had, he absolutely adored you. You worked at the Agency alongside him, an ability user yourself. You were able basically predict the future, but only ten seconds ahead. Everyone called you the Agency Forecaster, as you were able to tell them what someones next move will be, you were an asset to the Agency. When you got pregnant, Ranpo had wanted you to lay off Agency work, deeming it too dangerous for you and the baby, but you loved your job, you loved helping the Agency, and that would be your downfall.Â
Six months into your pregnancy and you were still able to conceal it well enough that everyone at the Agency had no clue. Your clothing was a little baggier but not by much, nothing that was noticeable by the members, and you had went from wearing heels to flats. The baby bump wasnât much, and although it worried you in the beginning, the doctors had said that everyoneâs body was different, and yours just decided to not show as much, but the baby was healthy and okay, and thatâs all that mattered to you and Ranpo.Â
âI donât know why you wonât tell anyone about him. Most people would be excited to announce their pregnancy.â Ranpo began the usual conversation that you always had over breakfast. He was always trying to talk you out of going into work, but you were persistent.Â
âOf course Iâm excited, but you and I both know that if I tell them, theyâll ask me to sit out on cases. I love my job, and... they need me.â You explained, watching his reaction to what you said. He couldnât argue with what you said, he never could. He knew how much everyone there needed you, but it still worried him. He rolled his eyes and shook his head, defeated by your logic. You reached across the table and grabbed his hand, brushing your thumb across his knuckles. âYou know very well that my ability isnât combative. I wonât get hurt.âÂ
He nodded, but he still wasnât comfortable, every second that you were in the office he was on edge. Every time you had to go out on a case, he was a nervous wreck. You always came back unscathed, unharmed, not a scratch on you. You were thoroughly protected at all times, you were just as important to the Agency as Yosano was. It wasnât just you that he had to worry about now though, you had a child, his child.Â
Work started just like any other day. Ranpo and you walked into the office, hand in hand, his other hand was carrying a box of sweets to get him through the day. âAh, Y/L/N! You, Atsushi, and I have a mission to go on today!â Dazai called from the other side of the office, waving to you as if his voice hadnât gotten your attention enough. Ranpoâs hand squeezed yours tightly, he obviously wasnât ready for you to go out so early in the day. He hadnât had enough time to prepare himself to deal with the anxiety it caused.Â
âWhat kind of mission is it?â Ranpo asked, his hand no longer in yours, instead it was wrapped around your waist, pulling you to his desk so he could set down his sweets and sit comfortably with you next to him while he listened to Dazai explain the specifics.Â
âOh, itâs just some crap with the Mafia. They want to talk about something, they wanted me to bring Atsushi, so Iâm sure itâs something about handing him over or there will be a fight. Y/N will be able to let us know if theyâre planning on something. Donât worry though, everything will be fine.â Dazai said it so nonchalant, but Ranpo was losing it over just the thought of you being near anyone from the Port Mafia.Â
âI can do that. Iâm sure everything will be fine.â You reassured Ranpo, turning to kiss his cheek. He had you sitting on his lap, and at this point, no one in the office was phased by you sitting there anymore. They would be more shocked if you werenât sitting on his lap honestly.Â
He wrapped his arms tighter around you, hiding his face in your back. He mumbled against the back of your shirt, the vibrations from his voice and the warmth of his breath seeping through the fabric of your shirt sent shivers up your spine. âI donât like this, cinnamon bun. Itâs not safe.âÂ
âWe donât have a lot of time. We have to get going.â Dazai said, noticing the way Ranpo held you tighter. âY/N will be okay, Ranpo. Atsushi and I wonât let anything happen to her.â He walked over to pat Ranpoâs shoulder, you felt his breath hot against your skin again as he sighed, but his arms loosened from around you.Â
âBe careful.â He murmured, casually rubbing his hand over your stomach. The baby kicked against his touch causing you to giggle slightly. You leaned over to kiss him quickly before getting up from his lap, walking with Dazai and Atsushi out the office door.Â
The three of you got to the Mafia building, the boys both stared at you, their way of silently asking if anything was going to happen. You quickly shook your head no, giving them the nod that as of right now and ten seconds into the future, everything would be okay.Â
Dazai led the way in and you followed close behind while Atsushi stayed behind you. You felt safe with the two of them, knowing Atsushiâs ability and Dazaiâs natural charm and the way he was able to sweet talk, you were sure that you were safe and you would be able to go back to the office and be with Ranpo rather quickly. Nothing would go wrong, at least, thatâs what you thought.Â
The boys ran into the office, both their faces filled with worry and fear as their eyes scanned the office for Ranpo. He was already standing, staring at the door expectantly, waiting for you to walk in behind them. It took him a second to fully register the looks on their faces, thatâs when his stomach sank and he had to fight the urge to puke right then and there.Â
âIâm sorry Ranpo-san.â Atsushi muttered, bowing in Ranpoâs direction. What did he mean sorry? Had something already happened to you? Were you dead? You couldnât be, he couldnât lose you and his son. That couldnât be the case. You were still alive, he could still feel it, like your hearts were beating as one, and yours was still hammering in your chest. He still had time.Â
âYou left her! Why would you leave her!?â Ranpo screamed, his voice reaching an octave unheard by anyone else in the room. They all turned to face him, his distress and obvious desperation all had them standing from their chairs.Â
âRanpo, calm down. Sheâs fine. Sheâll be fine.â Yosano attempted to reassure him, but he only shook his head, walking past her to stand in front of Dazai. His height didnât deter Ranpo, instead he craned his neck, his emerald eyes meeting Dazais brown irises.Â
âYou know I didnât mean for anything to happen to her Ranpo. They took her while Atsushi and I were distracted. I didnât think that it would turn to this.â Dazai pleaded with Ranpo, it was a first, his usual cocky attitude seemed to have disappeared under Ranpos glare.Â
âI told you not to take her. Itâs too dangerous, and like always, I was right. Now, take me to her.â Ranpo ordered, but everyoneâs attention was diverted when Fukuzawa stepped out into the main office.Â
âEveryone goes. We make sure to bring Y/N back safe.â His voice was powerful, almost hypnotic as he spoke. There would be no disapproval, no hesitation.Â
âThank you, sir.â Ranpo bowed to the President before turning back to Dazai. âLets go.âÂ
                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat on the concrete floor, your back against the concrete wall. The entire room was bare aside from the shackles and chains hanging from the walls, the same shackles and chains that they had used to bound you there. You hadnât struggled, you knew it wasnât safe for you to do so. The baby hadnât stopped moving since you had been captured, but you tried your best to hide it and not react to his movements.Â
âYour ability is far more useful than the were-tigers. Theyâre all foolish to not see that. Iâve only known of two other people with an ability like yours, theyâre both dead, but not even they were able to see as far as you do.â Chuuya paced back and forth in front of you, his hands behind his back, he rarely ever looked at you, but when he did his eyes were like daggers. âWhy waste such a useful ability on the Agency. Youâd get paid well here.âÂ
âItâs not about money. I want to help people. I want to save people. I donât belong here.â You tried to speak calmly, you didnât want him to know you were scared, it would only give him more power.Â
âThatâs what I donât understand about you and your people. You never actually save people. All the people you say you save, theyâre already dead. Most of the time you canât even bring those people justice without killing someone else in the process. The Agencies body count is higher than ours, but weâre the evil ones?â Chuuya knelt down in front of you, his face was smug, arrogant, his eyes squinted as he stared at you. âYouâre no better than us, and weâre no more worse than you.âÂ
You heard the voice of another man calling from down the stairs, the sounds of explosions going off over top of you. âWhatâs happening?â You asked, trying to pull your hands out of the shackles.Â
âLooks like the cavalry has arrived to try to save you. Donât worry, they wonât get down here.â He patted your head before getting on his feet and walking towards the stairs. âCome down and watch her. If anyone gets through, you know what to do.âÂ
                       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group powered through the guards at the doors, Ranpo was flanked on all sides by everyone trying to get him through. Dazai knew exactly where you would be at, he was in charge of leading the way.Â
âI swear, Dazai, if sheâs hurt...â Ranpo growled. No one had ever seen his so angry, so distraught. He rarely cried, and although he was doing his best to hide it at the moment, everyone could see how glossy his eyes were, he was holding it all in the best he could, but he was about to burst.Â
âSheâll be alright, Ranpo. You have to trust us, weâre gonna get her back.â Yosano murmured, her voice soft as she spoke to him. She only ever used that tone with him, it was almost motherly the way she tried to console him.Â
They moved deeper into the building, taking down everyone they came across. It was mainly guards at this point, everyone knew that they would be saving the worst for last. âRight over there! Come on!â Dazai called out, pointing to an elevator at the end of the hallway.
The group piled onto the elevator, Dazai pushed to button to take them down, knowing all too well where you were being kept. âThis is too easy... Theyâre waiting for us, arenât they?â Atsushi asked, but he knew the answer, just as everyone else did. They were all ready though, they would power through anyone to get to you.Â
âYou all showed up, now that really is something. How much is she worth to you?â Chuuya asked sarcastically. He was leaning against the wall next to the stairs that led down to you, his arms folded across his chest. Hearing him say that made Ranpo want to charge, but he knew he had to hold back, just long enough to get down those stairs. You would be there waiting for him, he would save you, he would bring you back home where you belonged.Â
âThe members of my Agency are priceless, not one is worth more than the other. We just want to bring her back safe. Iâm sure you wouldnât want any harm to come to the young woman.â Fukuzawa, always the peace keeper said, his voice calm as he eyed Chuuya. Everyone was on the ready though, ready to charge, ready to attack, ready to kill just to get to you.Â
Chuuya chuckled, shaking his head. âI wouldnât harm her, of course not. Iâm not that kind of person. There is however, one person here who could care less.â He turned to look at Dazai, one eyebrow raised, his fingers tapping against his arm. âYou know who Iâm talking about, donât you?âÂ
âAkutagawa...â Ranpo and Atsushi turned to Dazai as he said the name. Everyone knew who he was, and now they knew how much danger you were really in. âIf anything happens to her-âÂ
âYeah, yeah. Spare me the speech. Iâm not here to stop you. Iâm here to watch him tear you all to shreds.â He moved away from the stairs, extending his arm down the staircase to let everyone through. âHave fun.âÂ
Ranpo didnât wait a second before pushing through everyone that had surrounded him, racing down the stairs. They all called after him, begging him to stop, but he didnât listen, he didnât want to stop. He wanted to pull you into his arms, he wanted to shield you, protect you with himself.Â
The second his feet hit the landing at the bottom of the stairs, Akutagawa had the chains undone, cutting through them effortlessly with Rashamon. You screamed at the sharp dark black masses that entangled you, pulling you up off the floor and close to Akutagawa. Ranpo didnât move any closer, watching as a blade of the mass trailed across your torso, he watched your body quiver with fear as your eyes locked.Â
âA pitiful attempt of a rescue, honestly, I feel kind of bad. Of all the people to send down first, they send you?â Akutagawa almost growled with disgust, like he was disappointed in the lack of fighting that would ensue. âAlthough... I donât feel quite that bad...â Akutagawa didnât smile, there was no hint of malevolence, his face was as straight as ever as he plunged the blade of Rashamon through your chest.Â
Your scream was cut off almost instantly, the only sound was the gurgling of blood building up in your lungs as you attempted to breathe. It wasnât enough though, it was never enough. The blade dragged down, the sound of skin and muscles being torn through filled Ranpos ears, as if the volume was turned up to the highest level. He watched on in both shock and horror as you were practically gutted right in front of him.Â
The blood pooled at his feet, there was so much, it splashed against the soles of his shoes as Akutagawa dropped your body to the ground. The other members of the Agency had been standing on the stairs behind Ranpo, they watched it happen just as he had. The anger that emanated from each and every one of them was palpable, it could have been cut with a knife, it was thick and it hung in the air like a storm cloud.Â
Akutagawa coughed, staring up at Dazai on the stairs. âIâve done good, wouldnât you think? Spare no one, show no mercy, just like you.â He rolled your body over with his shoe, wrinkling his nose in disgust as he looked down at your body. âTwo for one.âÂ
Ranpos eyes grazed over your abdomen that had been swollen with his growing son just this morning, now cut open, the torn muscles and tissues exposing your uterus that was also slashed open. He fell to the floor, his knees splashing the blood, droplets flying up and landing on his face, his shirt, his coat. He crawled over to where your body lay, he saw his son in your womb, small, not fully developed, but he had ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes, his nose like a button, perfect and round, curled up in a ball with his thumb in his mouth. He finally screamed, screeched, slamming his palms down into the pool of blood that surrounded him and you.Â
Akutagawa started walking away as Dazai, Kunikida, Tanizaki and Atsushi tried to pull Ranpo away from your body. He stopped on the stairs next to Fukuzawa, looking him in the eye as he spoke. âIâll let Mori know to prepare for a fight.â He didnât wait for Fukuzawaâs response before continuing up the stairs, a trail of bloody footsteps stained the floor where he walked.Â
âNo! No no no no no!â Ranpo fought everyone off, pushing them away as he held onto your carcass. âI canât leave them. I canât! I wonât! Let me go!â His screams sounded more like cries. They were choppy, choked off, high pitched, the cries of a broken man, a man who had lost everything in one fell swoop. He had nothing, he was nothing if not with you. Life had gone dark for him, there was no light at the end of the tunnel, only darkness, a darkness that suffocated and blinded him. He would never escape the darkness that was now his life, it would only continue to consume him until he was just an image, no longer the man he used to be. He would never go back to being that man, not without you, not when you were the one who made him the man that he was.Â

Letâs Talk Dead Apple, pt. 2 (alternatively, themes)
What I loved, the themes, the apples, and Dazai as Snow White
Okay, can I just say, running is a consistent theme for Atsushi?
His character song is âYoung Boy, Run Under the Moonlightâ. The first chorus goes âhashire, hashire, doko ni mukau ka, shiranai, mienai, dakedo yukanakaâ, which translates to ârun, run, to where am I heading? I donât know, I donât remember, but I have to goâ.
I talked about this in my sskk fighting analysis post, but thereâs how in the Ivan fight, Aku says to him, âKeep running, fool.â Atsushiâs always running forward, always pushing ahead. He refuses to stay stagnant in one place, which makes for very dynamic character growth.
And in Dead Apple, I canât find the exact quote, but he does mention that heâs going to keep running forward. And frick that theme, of Atsushi always running forward. It makes him an interesting foil to Akutagawa and it makes him super dynamic.
More pretty dialogue time, relating to his character growth! I think a theme that Dead Apple really could have developed better but just..didnât, because they were juggling a bunch of other things, is Atsushi coming to terms with the idea that heâs killed someone. Heâs an interesting counterpart to the rest of the ADA and the PM, both of which seem to have little qualms against killing people. When heâs confronting Shibusawa, he says this:
That moment, I used my claws.
That moment, I used my claws.
That moment, I used my claws.
What did you expect? I wanted to live! A boy always uses the claws of a tiger in order to live!
The whole movie is about him coming to terms with and accepting his ability, right? I think this impassioned declaration is where it really clicks for him, that the tiger isnât a force of destruction meant only to hurt people and cause misfortune. This is when he realizes that the tigerâs the physical embodiment of his will to live in spite of all the shit thatâs happened to him.
Whatâs really interesting is the theme that was well developed in the movie--the metaphorical defeat of oneâs ability correlating to prevailing over oneself. Because as Atsushi says in the end, âThatâs not an ability! Thatâs me!â
Kunikida says something to this effect too, at the beginning of the movie when he gets a big chonking gun to go fight Doppo Poet. He says to Atsushi:
Prevailing against myself? Thatâs what Iâve always done.
This is especially true for Kunikida, because of how fiercely he sticks to his ideals. Heâs always fighting against the appeal of just doing what he wants, ideals be damned, but he always wins in the end. Gah, heâs great.
Now, thereâs an interesting exception to that, and thatâs boomer soukoku. They had the most symbolic dialogue in the entire movie other than the king of drama himself, Fyodor. Fukuzawaâs struggling to fight his ability, who says âWith no guile in your sword, youâll never defeat me.â
Meanwhile, Moriâs struggling to fight Elise because heâs...really attached to her. Hm, I wonder whoâs got guile? Anyway, the two of them swap opponents. Because Fukuzawaâs absolutely merciless (which Mori comments on after), heâs got no problem dicing Elise into pieces. And because Moriâs the opposite of straightforward, he throws some scalpels to distract All Men Are Equal and then shoots them. With a gun he pulled out of nowhere, because of course the leader of the PM has an ace up his sleeve.
So rather than prevailing against themselves, Mori and Fukuzawa prevail against each other. And I honestly think thatâs just as beautiful, narratively and symbolically.
Also, I was wondering how the hell Chuuya defeated his own ability. Someone in the comments on the site I was using suggested that he didnât actually defeat For the Tainted Sorrow, because he was using his ability to make sure the fog didnât touch him. This actually works out, because if the fog doesnât touch you, you keep your ability. Thatâs how nobody in the Special Ops had to fight theirs--Iâm assuming they locked down their base. And thatâs why Dazai keeps post-Corruption Chuuya in his lap and says âI wouldnât want to defend you against your abilityâ (well, and other reasons owo). NLH means the fog canât touch them.
Speaking of Chuuya and Mori! Their relationship is surprisingly wholesome!!
Mori: Good work.
Chuuya: You donât need to thank me. It was your order. Iâm just doing my job.
Like, it sounds like Chuuyaâs salty, but he actually seemed really genuine in this scene and it was very wholesome.Â
I love how when Dazai says Shibusawa will be saved by either an angel or a demon, Fyodor appears immediately after. But Shibusawa wasnât saved by Fyodor, not in the end. He was saved by Atsushi, which he does mention because he says âYou must be the angel who saves meâ.Â
Narrative bookending!! Yuuus!

Hi! Can i request a fluff scenario for Dazai X fem reader where she (tries) to give him a surprise birthday party with the rest of the ADA? Basically Dazai being happy please he deserves it! Thanks a lot!
Surprise! | Dazai Osamu x Reader
wc: 1.1k
a/n: Yesss!! I love Dazai so much lol. Sorry this took so long. I decided I should save it for his birthday, but then I forgot about the time difference, so Iâm technically a day late T_T Dazai deserves all the happiness in the world. Thanks for requesting, @blackstrawberrynightmare!!
You had been planning for this day for a year now. Some may say that a yearâs worth of planning is a little excessive for just a single day, but you worry that you may have needed even more time to prepare for today. There was never any hiding from Dazai Osamu, the man could read through anything. It always seemed that Dazai was two steps ahead of everyone. This made planning a surprise party for his birthday quite the challenge. What was even more difficult was that you were doing it alone.
Itâs not that the rest of the ADA wouldnât help you. You were just worried that the more people who knew, the harder it would be to contain the secret. So here you are, June nineteenth in the ADA building. Everyone worked away, and Dazai happened to be late as usual. Suddenly, you shoot up from your desk. âOkay, everyone! Can I have your attention, please?âÂ
Everyone in the office turns to you with a curious, confused look as you stand on your desk. âAs you may know, Dazaiâs birthday is today!â Atsushi freezes suddenly at your words.
âT-today!? But, we donât have anything planned. No one even mentioned it!â He waves around frantically, about to sprint out the door to the nearest store. You hold up your hand to stop him, grinning at his words.
âYou are correct! And that was my glorious plan!â you laugh. Atsushi stutters over his words, wondering why you were so cruel as to make sure Dazai wasnât able to celebrate his birthday. However, before he can successfully formulate a sentence, you reach up and haul a box out of the ceiling vent above your desk. âTada!~â You open the box to reveal an abundance of party decorations. âI wanted it to be a surprise party!â
Tanizaki quirks a brow at your statement. âIsnât the party supposed to be a surprise for the person itâs for and not the guests?â
âWell, yeah,â you huff with a pout, âBut this is Dazai weâre talking about! If more than one person knew, heâd definitely figure it out!â The ADA seems to agree with your statement, a murmur of approval for your reasoning. You clear your throat authoritatively. âRanpo!â You point at the man as he riffles through a bag of candy on his desk. âYou be the look out for Dazai!â He nods, rolling his chair over to the window with the bag of candy in his arms.Â
You turn to Kunikida. âKunikida, you will set out the food and make sure Ranpo and Kenji donât eat it!â Kunikida furrows his eyebrows at your command.
âFood? We donât have any.â
âYes we do! I brought in some this morning. Itâs in the kitchen of the cafe.â You turn towards the rest of the ADA as Kunikida leaves to get the food. âKenji, Atsushi, I want you to put up the decorations, please!â The boys salute you and get to work immediately.Â
âKyoka, will you get the presents from Yosanoâs office? Yosano will help you set them out.â Kyoka nods, walking off to get Yosano and the presents.
âNaomi, Iâd like you to get the President and Haruno.âÂ
âYes, maâam!â
âTanizaki, you can help Atsushi and Kenji with the decorations for right now, but Iâd like you to hide everything using your ability if Dazai gets here before youâre done, okay?â
âOn it!â
âAlright! We donât have long, so letâs get going!â
âAh, but (Y/N), what are you going to do?â Atsushi asks. Suddenly, his face flushes and he puts his hands up defensively. âNot that you havenât done enough already! I just meant-â
You laugh, waving your hand dismissively at Atsushi. âNo, no. Itâs okay. Iâm going to go find Dazai, wherever he may be. Probably in the nearest river or something.â Atsushi pales at your words. Of course Dazai would think to spend his birthday trying to kill himself.
*~*~*
âDammit, Dazai,â you whine, pushing the man towards the ADA building. âI canât believe youâre coming to work an hour late because you decided itâd be a good idea to hang yourself by your feet in my house! How did you even get in there!?â
Dazai scoffs at your words. âI never said it was a good idea. I said it seemed like a good suicide method!â he defends. âAs for getting in your house, it was quite easy. You should rethink your home security.â
âMy bad. I thought a lock on all my doors and windows would work like it does for the rest of the world. Maybe I should invest in some bodyguards, hm?â
Dazai gasps. âBut then I wouldnât be able to get in!â
âThatâs the point, dummy. You better get some work done today, or Kunikida might rip your head off. I thought he was going to explode with how angry he was earlier.â The man laughs at the image, murmuring about how funny a sight that would be as he opens the door to the ADA.Â
âSurprise!â the ADA choruses as you two walk through the door. A sprinkle of confetti falls in your hair as everyone cheers. From the corner of your eye, you see Dazaiâs eyes widen at the sight of everyone and a large grin grow on his face.Â
The rest of the day, much to Kunikidaâs dismay, is spent celebrating. You smile for the side of the room as you examine how relaxed and happy everyone seems. It was nice to see Dazai in the midst of the celebration as well, seeing that he usually disappeared during events like these. However, it seems he disappeared during this one as well. You narrow your eyes in confusion and suspicion when you notice his absence. Where the hell did he-
âLooking for something?â a voice asks from behind you. You jump, turning to glare up at Dazai playfully.
âCould you not sneak up on me? I think you owe it to me after breaking into my house.â Dazai slings a lazy arm around your shoulder, admiring the party as you were a moment ago. His mischievous grin had melted into a gentle smile at the sight.
âThank you, (Y/N).â
Youâre caught off guard by his sudden words. âHmm? What do you mean?â
He looks down at you, a familiar impish grin returning to his face. âYou didnât really believe I wouldnât notice, did you?â
You gawk at his confession. âW-what!? How?â Dazai simply laughs at your amazed expression. You grumble about him being too smart for his own good, leaning into his side. âWhen did you figure it out?â you decide to ask, peeking up at him.
âLast year.â
âDAMMIT!â

"Can't you guys just do whatever you want? It's not like I would know anything about organizing events like this. Yeah, I know I signed up for it butâ Kunikida-kun, this is torture! You're bullying your author! I'm gonna die of a heart attack⊠Yes, yes, I'll do it, geez."
Dazai had been on the phone with his editor for the better part of the last two hours. Atsushi watched him pace around the low table of the living room. If it were possible, he would've digged holes with the force of his footsteps alone. After that last sentence, Dazai cycled through a series of empty "uh huh", "yes", "alright", until he finally put the phone down with a sigh.
"Atsushi-kunâŠ" Dazai whined. He slumped, then crouched, then finally lied down with his face to the floor. "This is unbearable."
"Is Kunikida-san being strict as usual?"
"As usual? It's much worse than that!" Dazai slapped the floor weakly. "Just because it's almost New Year, it shouldn't affect my schedule. But I have the deal with the manga department now, and I'm technically the co-author, plus they can't get anything through without my approval. I've been pulled into their holiday season events, it's awful."
Atsushi, feeling sympathy for the clearly overworked author, padded his way and joined Dazai on the floor. He sat down on his knees and patted Dazai's head gently.
"Thank you for your hard work."
Dazai gurgled some sound that Atsushi couldn't decipher the meaning of, and made no further attempt to communicate. Atsushi continued to play with Dazai's hair until he had wallowed long enough to feel ready to roll over and look up at Atsushi. There were clear dark circles under his eyes.
"This is what happens when you actually do your work," Dazai whispered mutinously.
Atsushi laughed and threatened to let his editor know he said that. Dazai, betrayed, pinched Atsushi's thigh. Because Atsushi was a good person and he loved his partner very much, he ignored the sting and leaned down to kiss Dazai's cheek.
"Would you let me do a photoshoot with you?" Atsushi asked.
Dazai lolled his head to nuzzle against Atsushi's knee. He looked up at Atsushi questioningly. "Right now?"
"Only if you want to," Atsushi reassured. "Nothing fancy, you don't even need to change clothes. I think it'd be a nice distraction."
Dazai hummed; Atsushi felt the vibrations up his leg. He squirmed a little.
"If it is your desire, then it is also mine, there's no request I would refuse except for those that cause you harm," Dazai said in a low voice. It sounded like a quote, maybe from something he was working with. Though, it could just as easily be something he came up with on the spot. It was hard to tell, with Dazai.
"You're really too much," Atsushi admonished.
Dazai laughed, tired but carefree. "If you insist, then, in normal terms that's a yes."
"Let me get my camera."
Atsushi got up to do that and changed the lens to one of his best ones. Besides that, Atsushi didn't bother with any other equipment, though the lights and reflectors that seemed to be in Dazai's place more than his own were readily available. These pictures were just for himself, so he would work with whatever lighting there was.
(There was a special allure to Dazai that couldn't be captured quite right in artificial light.)
Dazai was still in the same spot when Atsushi came back, drawing invisible patterns with his index finger and whispering to himself.
Atsushi waited until he stopped to ask, "New idea?"
"A flash of inspiration that might save me from my writer's block in the future."
"That's some powerful inspiration."
Dazai raised his hand to Atsushi, who helped him up by the arm. Dazai rose in a smooth arc, directly into Atsushi's embrace. Atsushi poked him the ribs and pushed him away.
"I can't take your picture with you clinging to me like that."
"Ah, love is such a fickle and cruel thing," Dazai said. Despite his words, he stole a kiss as soon as Atsushi's attention flickered to his camera. "What do you have in mind this time?"
"Something for the New Years sounds fitting."
Atsushi explained what he had imagined, and Dazai, knowing the layout of his own house much better than Atsushi, suggested the locations that would be most fitting for the setting. It was a good thing that Dazai already wore a kimono as his default outfit, with the addition of his most comfortable haori and a fortune charm that he held in his calloused right hand, it made for enough of a nice image to go with the theme. Atsushi held back from saying anything when Dazai held the charm to his lips in an almost kiss, his eyelashes lowered delicately.
Not for the first time, Atsushi was impressed by the sheer size of Dazai's house. Every time they did one of these photoshoots, Atsushi felt the house became warmer; all the corners that were too empty, too sparse were filled with movement. The ghosts lingered less like this.
For the final picture, Atsushi directed Dazai back to the low table. Thankfully, the sliding door facing the garden let in enough light to capture Dazai in the gray hues of winter with his face half illuminated by it. It made for a pretty picture, even if Dazai ruined the atmosphere by biting into a mandarin like he would an apple. Atsushi's eyebrow twitched.
"Atsushi-kun, this isn't even an actual kotatsu," Dazai complained as he flopped down while Atsushi checked the last series of pictures. "This entire photoshoot is a sham."
Atsushi paused to raise his eyebrows at Dazai. He looked pointedly at the low table. "So now you admit it's not a kotatsu?"
"Well, it has the table and the warm blanket over it. It's close enough, right?" Dazai patted the tabletop. "This does the job nicely. Why would I buy a new one just for the heater?"
"You could just buy a heater by itself."
"Irrelevant."
"You're just a cheapskate."
Dazai snorted inelegantly. In this position, lying as he was, his hair fell over his eyes, half obscuring them. Both his arms were held above his head, and the sleeves of his kimono slid down to reveal rolls of bandages; the dip went low enough that Atsushi wondered if he would see a grimplss of naked skin, if he tilted his head just right. As if catching on to his thoughts, Dazai watched him like a hawk, his eyes half-lidded. There was a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Atsushi made a gesture for Dazai not to move, and raised his camera to capture that expression. As he stared at the resulting picture, Atsushi thought that, out of all the other pictures, this was the one he specially wouldn't show to anyone.
"Atsushi-kun, you're getting some sort of impure thought, aren't you?" Dazai teased.
Atsushi coughed lightly. "I'm not."
"You always get this guilty look when you do it, just so you know," he helpfully informed.
Atsushi quickly turned his head. "It's just your impression."
Dazai wormed his way to Atsushi, shuffling about on his elbows. Atsushi finally relaxed from the awkward pose he had forced his legs into to get the frame he'd wished for. As soon as Atsushi let go of the camera, Dazai reached for his hand.
"Hm." Dazai poked each of Atsushi's fingers with his own. "Did that make you feel better?"
Arsushi blinked in confusion. "I'm the one who should be asking you that."
"You really shouldn't!"
"I thought you were doing this to help you forget all the publishing stress?"
Dazai gave him an indulgent smile. He let go of Atsushi's hand to reach for his camera, hanging from Atsushi's neck. Atsushi, even though still confused, lowered his head so Dazai could remove the camera. He set it aside a safe distance away from them, and pulled Atsushi down so they were in pile on the floor. Dazai wrapped an arm around Atsushi's waist.
"You get so focused on others you don't even notice your own stress, do you? It's not the worst coping mechanism, but it does make you quite oblivious your own feelings." Dazai let his words sink in before adding, "It's okay if you're not doing your best."
Atsushi inhaled carefully. Dazai's orange-like scent clung to his lungs. He relaxed onto Dazai's body.
"I dislike winter," Atsushi confessed. "It makes me think of being cold and hungry. I⊠I feel a lot better when I don't have to think about it."
Dazai tightened his grip. "Alright. Then I'm glad to be a distraction." He paused. "Ohhh, maybe I should start writing poems. My specialty is prose first and foremost, but I'm sure I could pull it off. I'd give you a bunch of lovesick poems, and then you'd be too preoccupied being completely, utterly in love with me."
"I'm already completely, utterly in love with you, Dazai-san."
"Then completely, utterly, ultra in love with me."
"I'm pretty sure you just want an excuse to procrastinate your new manuscript."
Arsushi couldn't see it, but he just knew Dazai was grinning. "Just a little bit. Ah, but I'm serious. You always look at peace when you take pictures of meâdoes wonder for my ego, by the wayâ, so I'm glad to be your model when you need it."
"That's becauseâŠ" Atsushi took a moment to compose his words in a way that would make sense. "Usually you take pictures to feel nostalgic about the past, knowing that moment will never come back. When I take your picture, it's more like proof."
"Proof of what?"
"That I still love you, just like I loved you then. Just like I'll love you tomorrow. I think the stability of it gives me comfort when everything else is hectic."
Silence.
"Dazai-san?"
Atsushi pushed himself to his elbows. Dazai was quietly glaring at him, his face pink. Atsushi was stunned. He tried to reach for his camera, but Dazai gripped both his wrists.
"I can't handle you sometimes," Dazai managed to croak out. "I'm going to make a character who is pretty much you, and pair him with a self-insert, then have a tragic, dramatic love story for them. Don't test me."
Atsushi giggled. "Don't threaten me just because you're shy!"
"Atsushi-kun, I don't have a single shy bone in my body, take that back!"
Atsushi just watched with fondness as Dazai went on a tirade on all the ridiculous antics he would put his characters through. Atsushi chose not to let him know his heartbeat was frantic in his chest.
I love you, it wanted to say. I love you and you're wonderful.

Summary:
Chuuya and Atsushi are supposed to buy snacks for Ranpo. On this very important mission they run into Akutagawa.
There is a loud, pitiful sigh.
Chuuya grits his teeth and forces himself to keep working on the report he's supposed to write.
Another sigh.
"Ranpo-san, are you alright?" Atsushi is the first one to break. Chuuya can see Dazai hide a triumphant smirk. The bastard shouldn't be so smug about it, even Chuuya could have guessed this outcome.
"No! I'm dying," comes the overdramatic response almost immediately.
Chuuya keeps writing.
"What's wrong, Ranpo-san?" Kenji is now also thoroughly distracted by the detective's antics.
"I'm out of snacks!"
Chuuya fucking knew it. He's been here for barely two weeks, and he fucking knew it.
"Again? Didn't we stock up just a while ago?"
"They're all gone," the detective whines. "I'm gonna die."
If only it was that easy.
Chuuya can feel the detective's eyes on him. He's not doing him the favour of looking up.
"Hey, Mr Fancy Hat."
Chuuya is going to kill him.
"What," he says, eyes still focusing on his report.
"Buy me more snacks."
What Chuuya wants to say is: "Can't you do it yourself?" or simply "Fuck off."
Instead, he takes a deep breath and says: "Fine."
Because they've already been through this song and dance. Twice. In two weeks. Chuuya is going to kill someone.
He can't refuse, because he's supposed to 'follow any order by the Agency members' as Edogawa and Dazai like to remind him. And the detective is completely fucking incapable of being a normal functioning person, so he can't do this shit himself.
At least he can annoy Dazai in the same vein.
Chuuya stands up and lightly kicks against Dazai's leg. "Get up."
Dazai stares up at him as if he has no clue why he would be dragged into this.
"You're supposed to keep an eye on me, remember?"
Dazai pouts at him. As if that would help either of them right now.
Suddenly his eyes light up, and Chuuya does not like that.
"Atsushi-kun," Dazai says in a cheerful voice.
"No," says Chuuya.
"What is it, Dazai-san?" asks Atsushi.
Chuuya groans.
"I think it's safe if you go with Chuuya in my stead." At the unsure look Atsushi gives him, Dazai adds: "Don't worry, he's been very well behaved these last weeks. He won't cause any trouble."
Speaking about Chuuya as if he's a dog. Once again.
Chuuya is going to kill Dazai instead of Edogawa. Maybe both of them.
Atsushi is still not convinced. "Is that really okay? The president said-"
Dazai interrupts: "I'm sure the president won't mind. But you see, I'm very busy at the moment, and we would all save valuable time if you would do this for me."
Chuuya, who has seen how busy Dazai is, rolls his eyes. But he's tired of arguing. "One of you is going to move your ass, or there will be no snacks for anyone."
At the horrified gasp of the detective, Atsushi finally gets up.
"Thank you, Atsushi-kun!" Dazai calls with a self-satisfied grin. "Oh, and Chuuya, if you're already going to the store, could you buy groceries for us?"
Chuuya glares at him. "I was already planning to do that. It's not like you can be trusted with it anyway."
Dazai pouts, as Chuuya heads out the door, Atsushi behind him.
"Dazai-san can't be trusted to go grocery shopping?"
Chuuya shrugs. He's more relaxed now that they're no longer surrounded by people that still regard his every move with suspicion. "He always just buys what he fancies at the moment, usually canned crab or something like it. Not that I expect anything different at this point."
Atsushi fidgets with his belt as they head down the street, clearly wanting to say more.
"Just ask," Chuuya sighs.
"Uh, well, did you and Dazai-san live together before he... You know, left?"
"Not officially," Chuuya says as they cross the street. "I mean when we were on missions obviously, but otherwise we each had our own place. But Dazai mooched off of me so much that I just started cooking for us both."
"I see," Atsushi says, and that's the end of the conversation for now as they reach the store.
Chuuya grabs a shopping basket for himself and hands one to Atsushi.
"Do you need to get anything besides- Atsushi?" The boy has completely frozen up, staring at something behind Chuuya.
Alarmed, Chuuya spins around. It's easy to spot the reason for Atsushi's reaction. Akutagawa Ryuunosuke is standing at the end of the aisle, similarly frozen. At least he looks better than the last time Chuuya saw him.
Chuuya relaxes, just before the other two get over their shock, both taking on fighting stances.
Nope. This is not happening.
Chuuya takes a step forward, positioning himself between the two.
"No," he says.
The boys blink at him.
"No fighting. I'm not putting up with that right now."
"Chuuya-san-"
"No arguing either." Chuuya turns towards Akutagawa. "Did Gin ask you to buy some groceries?" The boy nods, dumbfounded.
"Do you need help?"
After a moment of hesitation, a shrug. That's as much of a yes, as Chuuya's going to get.
He nods, making a decision.
"Atsushi, you're going to pick out the snacks Edogawa likes. Ryuu and I are going to get our groceries and join back up with you at the end."
He turns to see Atsushi mouth a silent "Ryuu?" before nodding, dazed.
Chuuya heads towards Akutagawa who's still staring daggers at Atsushi but follows without protest.
"Do you have a list?" He gets handed one silently, quickly looking it over. "Okay, this shouldn't take too long. Come on."
Chuuya leads them through the aisles, picking out both his and the Akutagawas' groceries on the way.
Ryuu stays quiet, except for the occasional answer when asked something. Chuuya doesn't mind.
From time to time, he adds something to the other's basket, like Gin's favourite tea, which she doesn't deem a necessity and therefore never buys herself. Or in this case, asks her brother to buy.
Soon enough, everything on the list is in Ryuu's basket, and Chuuya has enough groceries for Dazai and him to last the week. Maybe longer, depending on how much Dazai actually is willing to eat. Chuuya really wonders sometimes how his partner managed to survive the past four years.
They pick up Atsushi who has filled his own basket to the brim with snacks and sweets, and head to the register.
Atsushi keeps glancing at Akutagawa and Chuuya can almost physically feel the other's patience thinning.
"Stop provoking him," he finally says, shooting Atsushi a look.
The kid looks honestly surprised. "I'm not! I'm not doing anything!"
Chuuya sighs. Dazai really wants these two to work together.
"Stop staring at him like that." Earning another confused look, he adds: "Actually, just stop looking at him altogether. We only need to pay, and you can go your separate ways again."
They manage to pay without causing an incident. Chuuya is silently glad when they finally leave the store.
As expected, Ryuu doesn't linger long. He nods at them, "Chuuya-san, Weretiger," and is off. Chuuya almost laughs.
"Does he always call you that?"
Atsushi makes a face. "Yes, I can't get him to stop."
"Cute."
"It's not!" The bright red cheeks do nothing to make Chuuya rescind his statement.
He takes the grocery bags, ignoring Atsushi's protests, and heads towards the Agency.
When they're finally back, Chuuya unceremoniously drops the bags filled with snacks on Edogawa's desk, who doesn't even say thank you.
He takes the other two bags and puts them down next to Dazai who immediately starts pulling things out to inspect.
"Aw, Chuuya even bought crab for me!"
Chuuya rolls his eyes.
"Hey, kid, you alright?" Kunikida asks, voice already suspicious again.
Chuuya turns around to see Atsushi sitting on a couch with his head in his hands.
He frowns, not sure what this is about.
Atsushi nods but doesn't look up. Which is only causing more suspicion.
Kunikida moves closer, very obviously keeping an eye on Chuuya. "Seriously, if something happened, you need to tell us."
Chuuya crosses his arms. "He was fine just moments ago."
Atsushi finally looks up. His cheeks are red again, and oh no. Chuuya has a horrible suspicion.
"Is this because of my comment?"
"What comment?" Kunikida asks, but Atsushi already, hesitantly, nods.
Oh no.
Chuuya takes a deep breath before stepping forward. "Atsushi," he starts, voice level, ignoring the people around him. Especially Dazai. "Do you have a crush on Akutagawa?"
The room goes dead silent. Everyone is either staring at Chuuya or at Atsushi.
Atsushi who flushes even more and avoids his eyes. Atsushi who very clearly would rather be anywhere else right now.
"Maybe?"
Fuck. Fucking hell. Chuuya is actually going to kill someone today, and it is neither of the ones he expected.
Familiar arms sneak around his waist, holding him in place. Of course, it's fucking Dazai.
Chuuya glares up at him. "This is your fault."
Dazai doesn't even act surprised, he just smiles. "I wouldn't know how."
"You set this whole thing up in the first fucking place."
Dazai shrugs, still holding onto Chuuya. "I don't see the problem. It's kinda cute, isn't it?" And, oh, Chuuya knows that smile. Dazai is going to take full advantage of this situation. Something Atsushi seems to realises as well, judging by his suddenly horrified expression.
Chuuya turns back towards the boy. "Don't hurt him."
Atsushi nods, face pale. Chuuya doesn't have to threaten him to get the message across. The implications are enough.
Finally, Chuuya sighs. This day took a turn he doesn't exactly appreciate.
He taps on Dazai's arm. "You can let go of me. I'm not going to kill him."
Dazai smirks. "What if I don't want to let go?"
Chuuya rolls his eyes. "Then, no work gets done, and Kunikida will yell at us."
Dazai pouts but does finally let go of him.
They return to their desks, with Dazai definitely sitting closer than necessary. Perhaps he wants to make sure Chuuya doesn't change his mind and goes after Atsushi. Perhaps he's just being annoying.
Chuuya glares at him. "Don't you fucking dare."
With innocent eyes, Dazai pulls back the paperwork he just tried to sneak onto Chuuya's pile.
Chuuya suppresses a sigh. This day is already too much, and it's not even noon yet. He's not sure he's looking forward to the rest of it.
He feels a tap on his arm and looks up to see Dazai smiling at him. Alright. Perhaps it's not all bad.
And he's reasonably sure Atsushi isn't going to hurt Akutagawa on purpose. He's still going to keep an eye on the situation, but he can live with it.
It's all going to be fine. Probably.
Chuuya returns to his report, Dazai next to him. Yeah, it'll be okay.

Hi! I really like your blog. Your analysis posts about ships or other things are really interesting and your gifsets are super cute! I have just finished reading your two anime recommendation posts and I was wondering if you plan to write a third one about the remaining animes you like? I would LOVE to read it.
Hi:) Thank you so much! Haha these were more like âbromance anime recommendationsâ lists. Iâm glad you liked them romances. Hereâs part 1 and part 2 :)
14. Hakkenden Touhou Hakken Ibun.
The relationship of the couple in this anime are one of the best on so many levels. Theyâre one of those âeven the darkest part of me canât hurt youâ superior ships. Theyâre two of the main characters, 2 out 8 of the reincarnated warriors (who are all handsome af haha) that are meant to.. you know⊠save the world.
Theyâre both on the verge of death at the beginning and one (Shino) in order to survive agrees to live with a demonic sword inside of him which prevents him from growing old and growing per se (which is really sad for many reasons plus youâll see him once in his 18-year old body and heâs so gorgeous), the other (Sousuke) takes half of a life from a dog, so he can tranform into it whenever he wants.
The problem is that during all of that Sousuke has split and lost his shadow aka the dark part of himself. His shadow works for the dark side, but all he really wants is Shino. The most amazing thing is that Sousuke loves Shino so much, that even his dark part would never ever hurt him. Like his shadow does some pretty terrible stuff to others like once he has made a deal with a girl so she would gave him her eyes just because Shino has said that theyâre pretty lmao (Iâm sory but its kinda funny), but he gets so pissed when Shino is hurt. So itâs the same as Akashi & Kuroko and Gauche & Lag: even for the darkest part of him the other one is his weakness.Â
Also this is one of the animes where LITERALLY the power of gay love saves the world by the end. (p.s. sorry, Genpachi, I love you the most and I know you like Shino too, but your flirting canât beat such deep feelings lol).
15. Assassination Classroom.
Not gonna spoil anything about plot, so Iâll say itâs about âproblematicâ kids trying to kill their teacher who has superpowers and thatâs it. This anime is full of controversial stuff, like I really questioned things and whatâs right or wrong, but one thing for sure is that no matter of what you think about the situation, you will 100% cry at the end. I personally think itâs a kinda happy ending considering all the stuff, but opinions are very different when it comes to this anime.
Now for the ship. Letâs just start with the fact that both Karma and Nagisa have ehhhh⊠psychological problems haha (but who doesnât in this anime? lol). So Karma is a sadist (like for real, he likes to get creative with torturing) and I think heâs also a yandere when it comes to Nagisa. He threatens to kill those who even talk bad about Nagisa and once has almost beaten to death those who bullied him (which I didnât mind tbh lmao). He never does anything if others ask, but when/if Nagisa says âpleaseâ, he immediately says yes (which is also funny).Â
They both are in awe with each other and think the other one is absolutely incredible so itâs like a two-sided fan club. Karma is really scary, but when it comes to Nagisa he can be fluffy af. He also doesnât care about people much, but Nagisa is his everything. Like the âI give upâ moment will melt your heart, that was so cute.Â
So this is one of those âyouâre the only exceptionâ ships. Bc Karma is a person who will enjoy skinning ppl alive, but when heâs with Nagisa he likes to hug, pick him up and coo about Nagisaâs height, play tag, discuss his fav movies and tickle fight. Iâm like⊠Iâm just⊠this is great.
16. Bungou Stray Dogs.
This one is about a detective agency where everyone has superpowers who are âenemiesâ with the mafia group where everyone has superpowers, but actually theyâre all friends and half of the detective agency date the mafia xD (Iâm sorry, but itâs the truth). Like I still donât get why they wonât just make one organization, this is getting ridiculous.
Iâm not a huge fan of the anime per se tbh, because like it has way too many characters who I canât even feel for cause supposedly theyâve had a dramatic past, but what past nobody tells, so I like canât empathize to someone whoâs an asshole without knowing why he is that way. Plus thereâre many characters in animes who have had a horrible childhood/past but are incredible people (hello to Todoroki and Levi). And some characters there for some reason are degrading instead of progressing which is the worst for me. But itâs pretty entertaining to watch if you wonât think much about stuff, powers are cool and itâs drawn beautifully (but there is one scene that was repeated 28 times 28 TIMES!, weâve counted just for laughs, guess which xD, thatâs like.. they couldâve made time for a whole new episode instead of this)
Thereâs one character whose progression is so incredible though that Iâm happy to watch just for him. Itâs Akutagawa. Heâs like grown so much and I love everything about him, how he went from trying to kill Atsushi to risking his life for him and letting him use rashomon, how heâs homey with his sister and how heâs so good with feeling his powers, how Kyouka tried to kill him and he was like âIâm so glad youâre happy nowâ. Bitch, like thatâs the character progression Iâm asking for! Man, heâs just⊠heâs my favorite, I love seeing many sides of him. He made me so happy in s3 when I was ready to turn it off lmao
So there are two main ships in this anime. Dazai and Chuuya. They are one of those perfect combinations. But not in a usual way you think.. like characteristically. Chuuyaâs full power is uncontrollable and the only one who can stop him is Dazai, cause his ability is to nullify otherâs abilities, so heâs the only one who can stop Chuuya and also save him from being destroyed by his own power. So basically Chuuya trusts Dazai with his own life when they work together (which is.. Iâd be scared if I was in Chuuyaâs place lmao). Itâs not like Iâm scared that Dazaiâs gonna let him die or anything, but stuff like âletâs watch a bit longer how Chuuya is going nuts cause itâs funnyâ doesnât seem funny to me.
Letâs just say, I do ship them, I think theyâd be perfect together if Dazai was like a fanfiction Dazai, you know. But the truth here is firstly their relationships progression is zero to none, like yeah, itâs fun to watch them bicker, but it like wonât give you any deep feelings. Plus Dazai was the most humane and emotional when he was with Oda (which I really donât get, Oda was a dumbass tbh, like who makes a children shelter while working in MAFIA???! ofc they were fucking killed). Like Odaâs so special for him but then he treats Chuuya and Akutagawa like shit. And he had more feelings for Odaâs matchbox than for Chuuya in the last season. So my heart just wonât lie there fully, you know. Because there are no moments there that indicate like heâs the one for him.
Now to Akutagawa and Atsushi. This is a classic enemies to lovers stuff. Like they go from trying to kill each other to risking their lives for each other. They warm my heart on so many levels. So theyâre both struggling to get over of their past and canât. But then by the end they help each other to let go of their demons, they give each other what others couldnât. Like I still canât believe Atsushi came in like a wrecking ball and said the words Akutagawa wanted to hear for ages (his face, his face lol he was like âw-w-what?â). Atsushi himself admitted that Akutagawa is his cure in the last season.Â
These two are like also hilarious bc they both think that theyâre trash so their arguments are like âyouâre the bestâ, âno, youâre the bestâ. Like Atsushi literally goes âAkutagawa is so strong and amazing, but he still thinks heâs weakâ what a bae xD and Akutagawa thinks that heâs nowhere as good as Atsushi so itâs really funny. The relationships progression is like insane. They went from beating each other into a blood puddles to covering each other from bullets and being like âhoney, donât you dare die, I was going to kill you myselfâ lol
I still canât believe Akautagawa gave Atsushi rashomon⊠he was wearing rashomon. I mean his ability, which is a part of him was okay with Atsushi using her. I mean.. maaaaaan fanfiction does come true! And theyâre like the representation of yin and yang characteristically and even appereance-wise and I think itâs super cool. Plus the âlawnmowerâ is the cutest pet name Iâve ever heard lol
Anywho, this anime has like 20 bromances, so pick whichever you like.
Damn, that got long and Iâve only mentioned 3 haha, sorry. That way itâs gonna be like 50 parts xD

hello!
can i request a hc on being best friends with dazai, chƫya, oda and akutagawa (platonic and separate) and also maybe being in the pm or ada? thank you! :)
My first BSD request! When I tell you I fell in LOVE with the anime, omg. I binge watched the entire show and the movie within a couple days and canât wait till they release more! So in these hcâs, I focused on both how you guys became friends and what you guys would do as best friends. Also, Akutagawaâs part got kinda long and more focused on how you guys became friends, hope thatâs okay. Reader is gender neutral and hope you enjoy! Also after posting this, I saw that these got realllyy long. Hope thatâs okay too!
Possible TW: mention of suicide, but nothing too heavy, and itâs in Dazaiâs part
SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2/DARK ERA ARC (I think itâs episode 13-16 if Iâm not wrong, but if you havenât watched it yet, skip Odaâs part)
Being Best Friends with Dazai, Chƫya, Akutagawa and Oda HCs
Dazai
Can you say CHAOTIC ENERGY
Imagine just having a nonstop sugar rush
Actually, remember how he was after eating the mushrooms? Thatâs the kind of energy yâall radiate together
If youâre both in the ADA, you both goof off so much that you have to sit at separate desks alll the way on the other side of the room so that you can try to get your work done
The keyword being try
It doesnât work
Poor Kunikida is going to pop a blood vessel at any second and everyone is so used to now that nothing even surprises them anymore
Oh, Kunikida is yelling at Dazai and (y/n) with smoke practically coming out of his ears? What else is new
Always going to the little cafe to slack off too
Messing with Atsushi also the highlight of both of your guys day
You guys have a mini competition going on which is: who can get/convince Atsushi to do their reports the most without getting caught?
You both get caught all the time (duh). Kunikida foams at the mouth for tricking poor Atsushi and the poor sap himself is ready to pass outÂ
If you guys are both in the PM, imagine goofing and slacking off but on a darker scale
âHey (Y/N)! Wanna know how many bones are exactly in the human body? â
âHm, Iâm slightly disgusted but intrigued..continue.â
Also, pranking Chƫya any chance you can get
You and Dazai together = the bane of ChĆ«yaâs existence
Surprisingly, no matter in the ADA or PM you donât join him on the suicide attempts and you try to deter him from doing it in your presence at least
âDazai, do you mind not trying to drown yourself in the river while weâre working a case? Besides, you already tried it before and itâs a pretty stale method.â
Cue dramatic gasps and antics from him again
He did try to convince you to join when you first met him, but changed his mind overtime when he started to enjoy your company
Heâs smart enough to know what youâre saying, and he understands. At first, he wanted to leave this world by any means, but since you came into his life as once of the closest people to him since Oda, he perhaps doesnât want to leave you just yet
He doesnât stop the attempts but he does slow down on them
You still have to pretty much save him all the time still though
âOh (Y/N)! My hero of a best friend, what would I do without you?â
And he wasnât lying. He feel like he would be lost again if it wasnât for you to help him keep grounded. Sure, you guys may create chaos together, but he would always keep you safe no matter what. He would put his life before yours, because you deserved it
Youâre his best friend after all, and heâs not ready to lose you by any means if he can help it
And heâll always have your back 100%
Chƫya
Drinking buddies!
I mean seriously, you guys have left the bar or restaurants way past tipsy more than once
You guys definitely have impromptu fashion trips together (no matter how much he denies liking them)
âHey! That was my last good vest! Youâre buying me a new one, and Iâm going with you to make sure youâre not being cheap with it either.â
Chƫya if you just wanna spend some time together just say that lmao
If youâre in the PM, you guys are always working together. You might even be an executive working alongside him, but no matter what you guys are always on missions with one another
If youâre in the ADA: you guys bonded over Dazai. You were complaining about him while facing ChĆ«ya and he happened to agree and add on to the complaints
Boy was he holding onto some grudges
While you both understand that you have your own obligations and loyalties to worry about, it didnât stop the friendship from growing
If you do have to fight him, he doesnât go easy on you (he does have a job to do like you) but he doesnât go out the way to try and kill you either
And you donât let anyone try to kill him either
Low key turns into a competition
âYou fight like an 86 year-old shortstuff!â
âWho are you calling shortstuff?! You werenât saying that last time when I whooped your ass!â
Regardless, you definitely become like a diary to him, especially after you find out about Arahabiki (which he tells you about over time)
You make him feel human, and heâs forever grateful for that
Being best friends with ChĆ«ya can be difficult at times (if youâre on opposite sides) but regardless, you both look out for each other
No matter how annoying you are can be, ChĆ«ya cares for you. Youâre one of the only people that he doesnât have to worry about betraying him (what happened with The Sheep still gets to him from time to time)
He begrudgingly calls you his best friend, but never in front of you or other people because 1. If he did you would never shut up about it and 2. he doesnât want to be seen as âweakâ or âsoftâ
And 3. you donât need to be put into anymore danger than youâre already in
But you already know that youâre his best friend, cause heâs yours and nothing is changing that
âYouâll be a dumbass if you think Iâll let anything happen to you. Besides, the only person whoâs allowed to kick my best friendâs ass is me, and if anyone else tries to theyâll have to deal with me!â
â*GASP* youâre finally admitting that Iâm your best friend?!â
âDONâT RUIN THE DAMN MOMENT (Y/N)!â
Akutagawa
Oh man, being his best friend is like a hard to unlock achievement
Congrats (Y/N) on even getting close to this man, let alone enough to build a bond
Itâs easier on being friends with Akutagawa if youâre in the PM. Bonus points if you go on missions all the time
But I will say if you are in the ADA, the easiest way to bond with him is to show that you are a force to be wrecking with, and maybe if you hate Atsushi or something too lol
But: think of Pinky and the Brain, but with Aku threatening to kill you every day (spoiler alert: he never does)
The only way that I can see you guys building your friendship is if he sees you in action and how you constantly have his back
He hates it because he knows what heâs doing and heâs been doing it for a while. Heâs not an incompetent child (Y/N)!
But as time passes, he slowly gets over it. Donât get me wrong, he still claims that he hates you asking if heâs okay and telling to âwatch outâ and things of that nature. But he starts to realize that you know what youâre doing too, and that he also sees that you care about the other subordinates too
He still sees if a sign of weakness, but you came to the realization that he wasnât purposely doing it to be an ass (but donât get me wrong, he still has his moments) but that he truly didnât understand. He never had someone show him that they care for him, and it made you heartbroken
So, you made it your own personal goal to become his friend. And he hated it
At first
It seemed like wherever he was, you were there like his shadow. Going to hunt someone down that didnât pay his debt? You were there in the background. Walking with Gin to the dry cleaners? You were already there, holding their readied clothes. Going to try and kill the weretiger? You were waiting for him with the car ready to go.
Higuichi started to hate you, until you told her that you did not want him. You just saw that he needed a friend, and you even came to an agreement of sorts. Once you and Akutagawa become strictly friends, you could try and hook them up
You knew it wasnât happening anytime soon but you didnât want to crush her dream and you didnât want a target on your head
You really had to pat yourself on the back, (Y/N). It took some time, but you finally did it! Akutagawa didnât totally hate you anymore!Â
You came to this conclusion after one of your missions went south. Not only did you not get the information that Mori needed, but you came back with a bullet wound. Granted you got reprimanded, and after you got out the meeting, he was waiting outside. For youÂ
âMaybe if you would stop acting so careless and focus on the mission, then you would have both succeeded and came back uninjured. Itâs obvious that you need someone to watch over you like a child. Donât embarrass me or I will end you myself.âÂ
Shocked wasnât the word. He was going to accompany you on all your missions now? Oh wow, is he finally-
âStop standing there with your mouth open like an idiot (Y/N). Youâre bleeding all over the place. Come, so that someone can dress your wound. We have more work now that I have to go behind and clean up your mess. And youâll be coming with me, so hurry up.â
You smiled. Even though this bullet wound was hurting like hell, you were happy. Happy that, even in his own Akutagawa way, that he was starting to accept you and your friendship.
It would take a while for you to become best friends, but the way your partnership is now, you were fine with that. As long as he knew that someone was standing in his corner no matter what, you were happy.
And he would support you too, in his own Akutagawa way
Oda
(AGAIN: SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 2/DARK ERA ARC. SKIP ODAâS PART IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED IT)
Okay, this man is loyal no matter whatÂ
He has a good head on his shoulders, heâs understanding, doesnât have a crazy temper like some people do, and he doesnât kill anymore
Oda would be one of the best people to be best friends with
I personally believe that it doesnât matter whether youâre in the ADA or the PM, he only cares about what type of person you are.
Curry buddies!
Also, just imagine telling each other book recommendations and just talking about books in general
You would even look at some of the writing he did have and just UGH
He just wanted to be a writer he deserved a happy ending
If youâre in the ADA, you guys met at the little curry spot he likes so much
You were on a case local to the area when you stopped to grab a bite to eat. You saw him eating the spiciest curry you ever smelt (seriously, you could smell it from where you were sitting!) without making a single face
When he saw you just gaping at him, he was...very confused. Until you finally asked how the hell he was eating that with no issues
âItâs not that bad, itâs pretty good really. If you want to try some Iâll pay for it.â
You took him up on the offer, cause it did look really good. And you have never made a bigger mistake than that
You had to drink so much milk afterwards
And the cook was damn near laughing in tears at you and Oda managed to crack a small smile at your exaggeration
âItâs not that bad.â
âWHAT- *COUGHCOUGH* EVERâ
And that was the start of your wonderful friendship
He definitely is worried about the conflict of interest because of being in the PM himself and working directly with one of the most vicious executives to ever exist
Seriously, Dazai was still his friend but damn could he do some things that even he couldnât stomach
And he couldnât imagine what Mori would make him do if he found out he was being buddy buddy with the enemy
So he kept his distance at first until you saw the kids. His guard was up at first but when he saw how you interacted with them, it melted his heart (on the inside, he was still stone faced on the outside)
So you guys met up a couple of times each month in between jobs and missions
If youâre in the PM, you worked alongside him and related to his stance on not killing anymore. Granted, you both were working on the other side of justice, but if you guys could help it you wouldnât create bodies if it didnât have to be any
If you guys werenât meeting at the curry spot, you were meeting about Bar Lupin
You supported him through and through, especially with his dream of becoming a writer. You even went out to the bookstore a couple of times to try and inspire him to write something for you to read
It didnât matter if you were in the ADA or the PM, you encouraged him to follow his dream. And when he would look at you confused , and asked why you were doing this, you would always reply:
âI wouldnât be a good best friend if I didnât tell you to follow your dreams, now would I? You deserve it, Oda. Youâre a good man, and that canât be said about a lot of people, especially people in the Port Mafia.â
He really did care for you, and in his last final moments before Dazai got there, he thought about you, and how terrible he felt for leaving you behind.
He wanted you to know that he always appreciated you. You reassured him always, never doubting him, and there wouldnât be enough thanks in the world for that
When you found out about his death, you were devastated. You didnât want to believe it at first and you kept blaming yourself that maybe you couldâve convinced him more to leave the dangerous life behind and to pursue his dreams
Until you found a letter in your door, which was actually a short story written by him attached to a letter.
âThank you for being the best friend a man could ask for. I will always appreciate you (Y/N), no amount of words can tell you how much I will. Thank you for letting me live out my dream, even if it was for a short time.â
It really confirmed it when Dazai arrived outside to tell you Odaâs fate, but he stopped once he saw you crying and clutching the letter in your hand
Much time has passed, and Odaâs death still haunts you. But, you continue to live for the both of your sakes. You even try to eat the spiciest curry at restaurants in his memory, but you can just see him shaking his head and cracking a small smile at your silliness
And you also remember his motto: limit to one curry meal per day (itâs silly, but it makes you feel better because itâs his silly motto and how serious he took it)
You even start to read more (and to specific, the series that he wanted to finish)
You see your life in brighter eyes now because of Oda. He was- actually still is- your best friend, and you will continue to live on in his memory
You just hate that you didnât have the time to tell him how much you appreciated him being in your life, and how much of a positive influence heâs been as your best friend.
But thatâs okay, because you think he already knows how much you do
