One Piece The will of the D. My personal theory
I was re-watching the episodes where Luffy would use Gear 5 for the first time. As the Drums of liberation thundered through the sea, it kind of struck me how Zunisha reacted to the sound.
Specifically his choice of words.
Words, in the world of One Piece, especially in the mind of Oda-san, are never thrown around casually. NEVER. Remember, just to say one example, how for years (decades dare I say) we believed the last island name was Raftel and how everything changed the moment we saw that name: "Laugh Tale"?. Things were never going to be the same. Roger and his crew saw something so funny, so unbelievably hilarious they just have to name that final island, at the end of their journey, "Laugh Tale". Till that moment we knew that those smiles had something special, yet with just that name, with just that little correction everything we knew was completely twisted.
At that point I remember thinking "Is there anything in this story that I'm actually sure of? Do I really know the meaning of anything I've read so far?". I doubted everything at that point.
And that is just ONE example. Another?
Gold Roger, or as we now know Gol D. Roger.
Can we even imagine what that ONE PIECE could even be? Or mean?
Back to Zunisha, and with that thought...that doubt in mind, I noticed the pronunciation of Zunisha at that sound "The Drums of Liberation" or, to transcribe the Japanese pronunciation : "doramu".
"Interesting" I thought.
Why keeping that word in English? Why is that so important? So much so that Zunisha, a thousand years old elephant, ally of the one and only Joy Boy, uses that specific word as his heart soared at the sound.
"Those with the D. will bring chaos to the world"
Occam's Razor, put simply, states: “the simplest solution is almost always the best.” And I see so much of Oda-san in this. I can almost see him laughing his heart off as we shockingly reacted to such an easy and obvious answer such as "Laugh Tale" after theories and theories spreaded out. And look at that, all those years wondering what that Vegapunk would look like... right, that Vegapunk, the genius scientist "the man with the best brain in the world".... looking awfully and trivially like our renowned scientist Herr Einstein.
Looking back it was so obvious, wasn't it? The answer was right there!
And then it clicked to me:
What if the D. simply stands for Drums?
Those Drums of Liberation. Those Drums who always would accompany Joy Boy. His distinctive sign. Always with him. He was supposed to become a king, he was the first ever known pirate.
As such, he must have had a crew. His allies...his Drums. Those who will inherit his will and his message.
Though hidden and hunted, through the centuries those with the D. survived and they always bring chaos and revolution wherever they go.
Trafalgar D. Law (Dressrosa)
Hagwor D. Sauro (Ohara)
Monkey D. Luffy (basically every place he's been to until now)
Marshall D. Teach
What if those with the D. are the heirs of those who once were together with Joy Boy? Maybe the members of his crew, or people from that Great Kingdom in which Joy Boy ruled and guided a war against the 20 kingdoms?
Those with the D. Also known as the "Natural Enemy of God". Those Gods living over the Red Line, those who delete history in their favor to maintain their power.
Those Drums who would be in the war during the battle, never stopping, never wavering. Guided by Joy Boy. Keeping his will alive.
I know what you're thinking.
"The D. standing for Drums? That's it?"
Impossibile. Absurd. So stupid it's almost... laughable, isn't it?

So I’m back into One Piece.
I initially got into it back when the anime was still new. I think around thirty episodes had aired when I started watching. And when I say I got into it, I mean I was obsessed with it. I not only watched the episodes, I rewatched them. Over and over. This was back when I still had dial up internet and it took several days to download a single episode. So it’s not like I had a ton of other new anime to watch.
In particular, I loved three ships especially (yes, I used to be a hardcore shipper): Luffy x Nami (my fave), Sanji x Nami, and Sanji x Luffy. Or all three together. I was really invested in these ships. I wrote fanfiction, ordered doujinshi from Japan, ran fan sites and even “communities” on Livejournal.
But I’ve always been a very open minded shipper. No matter what I shipped, I had no issues with other ships and even wrote fanfic for them. I wrote a fairly well received Zoro x Nami fic. I’ve never shipped them but a friend of mine at the time did and I thought it was cute enough. I also thought Luffy x Vivi was cute. I’ve never understood “shipping wars” because I always enjoyed almost all shipping content (unless it was something freaky involving adult x kid or something).
Anywho, I was buying the HK sets from eBay to avoid downloading it. For you younger anime fans, these were Hong Kong DVD sets with pretty packaging but questionable quality and even more questionable subtitles (the grammar was awful, the timing was sometimes off, and the names were often subbed wrong, including one memorable case where every single character’s name was subbed as “Chan” for a whole episode, so you’d get lines like “Chan! Go with Chan to look for Chan!”). They were a replacement for the VHS fansubs I loved so much once VHS fell out of use.
The first several sets were very well priced. They each had 30 episodes, and cost $25 including shipping from China. I bought them as they came out. But around the time they hit the Skypiea arc, they changed the sets. Suddenly you only got 18 episodes and the price rose to $30 a pop. I kept buying them for a while, but eventually stopped and decided to wait and see if better priced sets came out later, or at least let a few build up and buy them all at once to save on shipping.
But once I took a break from One Piece, a little after the Water 7 arc, I never went back to it. I got into other things, eventually got high speed internet and started streaming other new shows, and kept telling myself “I’ll catch up on One Piece someday”. Then all of a sudden it had over 1000 episodes and “catching up” felt very daunting. Not to mention the fact that it’s been around 20 years since I was watching it and now I’d need to start over just to refresh my memory.
For a time, I tucked One Piece away in my heart as something I once loved but would most likely never go back to. I still adored the characters and occasionally heard spoilers about major events (yes I know about that death) or stumbled upon AMV’s that had cool looking scenes past what I’d watched. But I have enough trouble trying to keep up with seasonal anime while having far less free time than I had 20 years ago (and I’m still trying to catch up on fucking Detective Conan - I’m in the 900’s now!).
But then things changed. The live action show on Netflix came out, and I binged it. I liked it a lot. Despite some nitpicks (mostly about Nami being so sullen and serious when she’s flirty and fun in the anime, because lady characters so often get shoved into the role of “smart one who puts a damper on all the fun the boys are having”), I think it overall did a great job of capturing the spirit of the story. It was fun and whimsical and didn’t screw the whole thing up by trying to be “realistic”.
Despite my enjoyment of the live action show and a renewed love of the characters, I still didn’t go back to the anime.
That all changed when my brother and I were at an extra residence that we use for storage, cleaning things up and sorting through the junk. He was digging stuff out of a closet when he found a boxed Nami figure. It was the bridal figure. I’d ordered it so many years ago and it arrived with the veil broken off. The seller sent me a replacement and said to keep the broken one. With nothing else to do with it, I tossed it in that closet.
My brother, who has never had even a shred of interest in any anime whatsoever, asked what was in the box. I said it was an anime figure and he asked which one. This was a very strange question from him. Usually when the word “anime” comes out of my mouth, it shuts down conversations. I said it was a One Piece character and he says “Oh? Who is it?” All the text on the box was in Japanese. Wondering why he cared, I said it was Nami. He immediately replied with, “This doesn’t look like Nami.”
I rolled my eyes and said “Yeah okay.” I figured he was just being silly or teasing me. What the hell would he know about Nami? Later while we were still cleaning, he found a bag of manga. I periodically take some over there when my shelves get too full. He asked what was in the bag and I said it was manga. Then he asks, “Do any of them have Luffy in them?”
I literally thought he googled One Piece characters just to mess with me. But then, a full fucking day later, it hit me: he pronounced Luffy’s name correctly. Most English speakers who saw the name written out would assume it rhymes with “fluffy”. Which meant my brother had to hear the name spoken aloud. When I went to his house a few days later, I told him to fess up.
Turns out, he watched the live action show and loved it. He even bought merch! He was gleefully showing off his Going Merry keychain, his magnet on the fridge in the shape of the Straw Hat Jolly Roger, and a phone case emblazoned with the One Piece logo. He even said he was getting into the anime. To say this was a surreal moment is an understatement. I’ve loved anime for over 30 years, and my brother has even teased me for liking it. He was the absolute last person I ever thought would take an interest in One Piece of all things.
And suddenly, the thought of him watching more of the anime than me, going past what I’ve seen, hit me like a slap to the face. I can’t let that happen! I would never live it down if he strolled in and started talking about stuff that happened way later in the series.
So I started it over. I’m currently at the point when they’re trying to get to Skypiea. I’m blazing through it, skipping anime-only filler episodes and all the opening/ending themes (even Run Run Run, which I adore so much). At this pace I’ll probably catch up next year. I forgot how damn watchable this show is, how hard it is to resist watching one more episode.
All this to say I’m back into One Piece in a big way. I might even write fanfic for some of the characters at some point (which would feel weird since I wrote OP fanfic back in the day). Just a heads up to my followers that you’re probably going to see some OP content on this blog from here on out.
#one piece#coming back after 20 years feels so strange#like I remember how I felt when I watched these episodes before#and it’s mostly the same#though I think I have a better appreciation for Zoro than I had before#I was all about Nami Luffy and Sanji before#but I love all the straw hats

I've seen a ton of people on the internet praise the One Piece live action adaptation to high heavens and back and it's just confusing to me. I've even seen people claim that the anime adaptation "CURSE" is broken. Which like, for me, yes and no. Does it look good? For the most part yes but appearances does not make it an automatically good adaptation.
I've recently discovered your content last year and I thoroughly enjoy what you make and agree with your opinions on a lot of things. So when I found your responses to a few asks regarding what your opinions are with the adaptation my enthusiasm did take a bit of a nose dive. But I did want to watch it for myself so I can make my own opinions and see if I agree with yours or not.
20 minutes in and, oh boy, is it something. I can absolutely see what you mean when you say that this show is struggling with being faithful to the source material and trying to be its own thing. One moment they're trying to do their own original content and the next they're trying to shove things about one piece into your face and make you say "oh look it's One Piece!"
And the characters! The interactions between Koby and Luffy felt off. Some moments it feels like I'm watching Luffy and the next he's doing and saying things that Luffy wouldn't do. And that entire time he's shoving down Koby's throat that "you should be free" "Alvida shouldn't be telling you what to do" "If I was a pirate and I did that I wouldn't have left my Island". It's true that he does embody the sense of freedom but he doesn't blatantly tell someone it. He does it completely subtle and unknowingly. It felt like he was trying to shove the theme of freedom down my throat.
And not only does Koby not even tell us what his dream is, but he doesn't even earn inspiration to be braver or stand up to Alvida. Luffy does. And he does it in such a snarky way that it feels purposeful rather than Luffy just saying that without thinking and it happens to be mean.
Don't even get me started on Luffy's backstory and Zoro's introduction.
I know I've only seen the FIRST 20 minutes of the FIRST episode but if this is how it's going to end up being for the rest of the season I'm not going to feel too eager to watch it. There are some things I like but they're far in between each other.
Yeah there's a real issue within the first episode regarding that, when Luffy is being an ORIGINAL Netflix Luffy, he works great! It's a fun and charming version! But then they have him say lines straight from the manga, and they have him trying to replicate manga Luffy, but at this point - Netflix Luffy and manga Luffy are two different characters. So they got Netflix Luffy being aware, and then they shove in manga Luffy being an impulsive, goofy idiot. And suddenly you're stuck with this blaringly obvious contrast of character, and it feels like you're seeing two different people.
It literally works fine as a show, but their struggle in knowing what to keep and what to change has just left them with this weird Frankenstein Luffy that is and isn't himself, and same can be said for Zoro and Nami. It felt like a push and pull and I felt weird about it lmao
From the first episode alone, I would honestly say that this series fails as a One Piece adaptation, but works fine as a One Piece inspiration. I'd hesitate to call this "the live action version" when it feels less like an adaptation and more like an interpretation.

Have you also watched the One Piece anime? After watching the new live action I was like “oooh! I should check out the anime!” But it is like 1000 episodes. Is it worth it?
Hi! I've watched a good chunk of the One Piece anime, yes! I watched up through at least the Arabasta arc, probably up through episode 150 or so, but at the time that was all that was released, so I had to switch to the manga. (I kind of fell out of One Piece for awhile after certain events in the manga hurt my heart too much to keep going for awhile, but I've always intended to go back. So I would say I've read somewhere just past half of the manga?) So, take that into consideration, that I'm coming from "started with the anime, got 150 episodes in, that's all the further the anime was along at the time, so I had to switch to the manga, but I fell out somewhere around chapter 500 or so, but that was long enough that I had plenty of time to compare the manga and the anime to each other, once the anime caught up to where I was in the manga". My ideal One Piece watching order is pretty much exactly what I went through: - Be prepared for the first ~20 episodes to be kind of dull, maybe you'll like them, but most people find them kind of tedious, but idk maybe you could skip the first 30 episodes or so because OPLA covers the events reasonably well - Watch up through the Arabasta arc (episode 150 or so), the pacing of the anime is really, really watchable up to that point and the voice actors are ASTOUNDINGLY perfect in their roles - Switch to the manga for the Jaya arc/Skypiea arc, unless you're having a really hard time with it, Skypiea should still be pretty good pacing (up to episode 195 or so) - SERIOUSLY GET OUT OF THE ANIME AROUND THIS POINT because it has to start stretching out the events to fill time because it catches up to the manga too quickly, so there's a TON of filler, like by the time I went to try to watch the events of the Davy Back Fight in the anime, it was EXCRUTIATING trying to slog through the long, looooooong minutes of characters just STARING at each other to fill time Is it worth it? Yes, yes, and yes. One Piece is genuinely my favorite manga ever, nothing has ever come close to how well done I've found it to be. It's not perfect, it definitely has trouble when it comes to women (though, I think Oda is at least trying to get better about that) and the art style isn't going to be for everyone, but the sheer WORLDBUILDING and PLOT are absolutely NUTS, Oda knew exactly where this story was heading when he started and you can see that dedication unfold as it goes along, things that you had no idea were important back then, that just seemed random, will suddenly be MASSIVELY important, like as an example: When Shanks tells the sea monster to GET LOST! after it chomps his arm, there's a whooshing, the camera in both the anime/manga and the live action make a point of how the air kind of 'shakes' around him, and it's super dramatic, right? THAT'S GOING TO BE IMPORTANT LATER and watching OPLA I was struck all over again HOLY SHIT ODA PLANNED THAT FROM THE BEGINNING. One Piece is a deeply silly and ridiculous series, not everything is meant to be taken seriously, sometimes it's just Oda joking around and being goofy! But there's a genuine story about friendships and a massively internally consistent world that will slowly unfold before you and some of the most epic battles I've ever seen. One Piece is a series that has made me genuinely cry over Luffy's hat more than once, it has made me cry over a ship, that's how powerfully the story can affect my emotions, because it's genuinely such a loveable series. Yeah, I absolutely do recommend it! Start with the anime, but for the love of all things holy, stop at least around episode 200 and switch to the manga, it's a tough adjustment for a few chapters, but it's totally worth it!!

GMORNING !!!!! u know what time it is
EPISODE 8 TRIVIA:
- the big monster they fought in the beginning was called a Crawling Apocalypse which looks like this. terrifying !!!

- bizly really liked that william banished it. he was originally not gonna let him do that but then "i realized your character can do so little and that was cool so i said fuck it" we love william pity points he is such a loser and he rolls so terribly <3
- they start talking about one piece because grizzlys saying things abt how certain parts of dakota are inspired by luffy and bizly goes "ive never watched anime" which is the biggest lie in the world
- grizzly: "yknow we were about an hour into the episode before i realized wow i havent done anything productive yet"
condi: "you just hit on vyncents mom for like 20 minutes!!!!"
- and then they start talking about how dakota and chip (bizlys pc from riptide) would either be best friends or hate each other which is really funny bc there are now MULTIPLE what if crossover episodes where they meet and interact and thats exactly the dynamic . i love them
- condi wasnt expecting his dad to be dead, he thought theyd have to fight him
- he kind of hesitated taking the sword !! vyncent doesnt really know how to feel about using something that belonged to his father
- he wasnt entirely Present for the part where his dad betrayed the party, he was sort of fading in and out of consciousness so theres a chance he didnt actually get the full picture. condi knows this out of character and vyncent knows it in the back of his mind somewhere that his dad might not actually be fully evil but hes too angry to come to terms with that yet
- hes struggling a lot with the fact that his mom.doesnt know about the betrayal. he doesnt want to tell her because "its not his fathers pride at stake, its his mother's memory of him" and that makes me so . :(
- THE GREATS!!!!!!!! THE GREATS ARE HERE i love the greats. surely nothing bad is happening to them
- they have a couple theories as to whats going on with the greats:
-- condi: theyre in this state because vyncent took too long getting them back here out of his head
-- condi: they were killed when they got transported to the other world and there was no way to get them back completely
-- charlie: something happened in the time where vyncent was transported to prime and the greats had died, so someone did something to keep them alive by putting them in his head. maybe they could only be kept alive by being in vyncents head
- grizzly tries to insight check bizly irl to see if any of their theories are close so far. this does not work . he rolled a 17 btw
- none of them trust minerva they think she might be secretly working with the lich. bizly defends her by saying "shes also in the middle of basically an apocalypse i think shes allowed to be a little mean to you"
- le frog is the only french person ever. this is brought up with NO context no explanation
- bizly is sharing some of the thumbnail art from youtube because this was right around the time the first few episodes were being put up publically !! most of them are just the same as the official refs but the most important one is le frog bc im not actually sure if youve seen his offical design yet . also tide used to be white. we dont have to talk about white tide

- bizly says pd feels more like a DC comic than a Marvel comic. hes right about this
- charlie starts talking about marissa meyer books and this is important 2 me because the lunar chronicles was an extremely formative piece of media for me . she apparently has a book called renegades thats superhero themed and i have not read it yet but i put it on my list specifically because of this. wahoo!
tgis is SUCH good trivia for this ep thank u dude... ouagh. really solid meal here. i love these last couple episodes so much.. there's so much fun stuff happening here i'm enjoying all of the greats stuff & getting like a solid Vyncent Moment for a while.
i LOVE the william pity points its great! it WAS cool as fuck!! also i gain +5 hp every time a gm goes "who give a shit if this isn't technically how the game mechanics should work, it's fun for everyone at the table & makes for something cool and makes sense narratively."
that being said. i DID take SO MUCH PSYCHIC DAMAGE from how long dakota spent hitting on his fucking mom. Please. Please king !!! sob.
I ALSO WAS EXPECTING THEM TO FIGHT VYN'S DAD???? still not unconvinced that some lich undead bullshit isn't going to happen with that. god i'm so invested in figuring out what HAPPENED there... i love this type of murder mystery situation. & i also was genuinely unsure if he would take the sword or not!! really kind of an ohhh shit! moment when he did. imo. vyncent virion sol i love u.... also it's still INCREDIBLY funny 2 me that he's still in his normal clothes. i have not forgotten that he is just doin his fantasy bullshit thing in the just some guy drip. (<- i might have forgotten something but i've been assuming they no longer have/wear Official Hero Drip since they're no longer really sanctioned or on great terms w/ them? also i've been assuming that the episode-specific clothes & shit isn't really permanent... now that im thinking about it though please tell me wiwi hardcore blue flame black leather kickass spiky biker jacket remains. it's too cool for him. but. still.)
I LOVE THE GREATS SO MUCH... i hope nothing permanently bad happens to them :( i like them so dearly..... you know they r really solid folks because they spent a YEAR and change living in a teenager's brain & came out of the experience still bein so nice 2 him.... augh. also in general big fan of the system-adjacent bullshit :] i love it when theres. guy with guys in his head. etc. will b sad ab their departure but i hope they r OKAY and return 2 Being Alive & shit!! nervous laughter. also god i can't wait to find out what Actually Happened with them. hhrhrghghgghh.
THIS IS SO TRUE ALSO???? free my girl minerva she did nothing but have Literally Normal Reactions to TERRIBLE things happening!!!
I DON'T LIKE THAT LEFROG FACT. it raises the question of is he actually even french or like, is there even a point of reference for his behavior. like. What is going on there. Horrifying thank you!!!! also man this entire degree im working on would be useless! well. maybe prime quebec exists. somehow. independently of a hypothetical europe. HIS DESIGN IS SO FUN BTW. its so cute.. i WAS kind of imagining a mutant Big Real Fucking Frog situation but i think this is a lot more reasonable. also literally ignoring white tide I Do Not See it. It Does Not Exist.
ALSO. NOT GOING TO START TALKING AB COMICS FOR EVEN MORE PARAGRAPHS. BUT. he is so so so right. (<- dc comics guy with Opinions. well. technically im not even much of a dc guy im just a vertigo guy. but. still.) hghghghbhgh.
#ALSO... i remember reading ONE book of that series u just unlocked that memory... it was the only one our library had i think </3#anyway. this is SO LONG but what ever... prime defenders thought dump time man im free from term paper hell i can do whaddever i want!!!#also HIII ilyyy hope u had a good day :]#mac tag!#pd lb#i need 2 start tagging these trivia ones specifically so i can go back n find em easily..#pd rolled#<- :3

I started watching Netflix One Piece last night. Only got halfway through the first episode, because I was already half asleep, so I’m going to rewatch it to make sure lack of sleep isn’t the reason I think this, but…
I think I like it. I like it a lot. I was actually getting excited while watching it.
Because you can tell that for once, in a massive break from “Hollywood as usual”, the team behind the show loves the source material. They have read the manga, watched the anime, listened to Oda, and are dedicated to keeping to the spirit of Oda’s story.
Wanna know how I know? The details. I’m just blown away by how dedicated they are to including all these little details in episode one that won’t pay off for seasons!
Like a member of Baroque Works trying to recruit Zoro. Or the Marine symbol on the “Gum-gum” fruit’s case. Wanted posters for pirates we won’t meet for several arcs. How I can recognize every character on sight even with the adjustments to keep things from being too cartoony.
It really feels like the people behind this series love One Piece. They love adventure tales. They love Oda’s world and how vibrant and lively it is, even when the main characters aren’t there.
And they didn’t skimp on the budget. This feels like a different world. This feels like a land of pirates and oceans and great beasts and devil fruits. And I was surprised by how good Luffy and his fighting looks.
Like I said, I only got partway through the first episode before I realized I needed to stop and actually sleep. But if the rest of the series holds up to those first 20 minutes? Dear Lord, we might actually have something special here.
#spoilers#one piece spoilers#if there are any new fans who’ve only seen the Netflix version#because I’m talking about stuff from 1000 chapters later#op spoilers#netflix one piece#netflix one piece spoilers#the one thing I don’t get is Garp’s heavy Scottish accent#is it so new fans don’t connect him with Luffy?#that was garp right?#because they don’t look alike at all either#but#what other vice admiral would be at Roger’s execution?#I’m oddly hopeful for the rest of the series#I’m gonna watch more of it today and report back#but even the way Zoro *moves* is right out of the manga#and they’re handling the pacing so friggin’ well#20 minutes in and we’ve already covered the first several chapters without feeling rushed

Hello! I hope it’s not a nuisance but can I request a Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rall and One Piece matchup? 2 character from each fandom
°GENERAL INFORMATION°
I do like a romantic pair with a male character!
Hobbies: I spend most of my time drawing, playing, watching anime or anything with the horror genre involved (movies, series, games, criminal cases anything with horror or mystery!)
Appearance: I’m pretty short, about 5′ 3″, brown medium hair with no bangs and brown eyes, my head’s empty about fashion lmao, but I’m a mix of cute style (not extreme), goth style and Victorian style
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexually: Bisexual
Age: 20
Aesthetic: Dark Academia, Withcore, Kawaii and Soft Girl
°BONUS°
I would like a character that wouldn’t care about my physical disability (Wheelchair user) and mostly liked make me laugh and feel more positive about myself!
Anyway, take good care of yourself, drink enough water and get enough rest! Also please tag me when you’re done with my request 💕
Hi! Thank you for your request! I've given you one detailed matchup for each fandom as well as an additional matchup suggestion. If you'd like me to write full matchup thoughts for the additional suggestions, let me know! Also, I am currently up to episode 370 (Thriller Bark) of One Piece so please keep that in mind while reading. Sorry it took so long. I hope you like your matchups!
In Genshin Impact, I match you with...

Itto probably won’t even notice your disability until it’s pointed out to him. It’s not that he’s completely blind. He knows you’re in a wheelchair. But he’s so focused on the sort of person you are that he doesn’t even consider you “different”.
Honestly, he’s probably your biggest cheerleader. Itto’s very supportive of you as a person and your hobbies.
Itto would enjoy watching anime with you. I think he enjoys energy filled, action shows but he’s more than happy to settle into a rom-com as well. Just be prepared to comfort him if anything sad happens.
Loves watching you draw. I don’t see Itto as someone with good artistic skills so he thinks all of your creations are amazing.
Super funny! Itto will be cracking jokes left, right, and centre. He loves hearing you laugh, and it’s even better when he’s the cause.
For an alternate matchup, I would likely say Mika. I think you’d get along well though he’s not sure about horror.
In Honkai Star Rail, I match you with...

Much like Itto, Sampo would be your biggest cheerleader. He’s going to support all of your endeavours and will give you words of encouragement when you’re feeling down.
He is aware of your disability and all it entails so he’ll be great at supporting you. Need him to get something that’s out of reach? He’s on it. Want him to come to the doctor with you? Of course he’ll be there!
Sampo claims to enjoy watching horror movies with you but in reality he’s going to be clinging onto your arm and sleeping with the lights on for a few nights afterwards.
He’s much more into anime and is happy to watch anything you sit him down in front of. I see Sampo as someone he likes shows that are a balance between action and rom-com.
Also enjoys making you laugh. I see one of Sampo’s main love languages as making his partner happy, whatever form that takes.
For an alternate matchup, I would say Caelus. He’ll be very supportive but isn’t as likely to make you laugh as Sampo is.
In One Piece, I match you with...

Rounding out your matchups with a third and final supportive partner. Luffy doesn’t have a single unsupportive bone in his body so you can bet he’s going to be cheering you on for even something as simple as waking up in the morning.
Enjoys watching you draw but struggles to sit still for too long. If he can do something while watching you be creative, he’d like that very much.
In the same sense, Luffy would enjoy watching horror movies or anime with you but he has to be doing something else at the same time, for both your sakes.
Luffy’s always making you laugh, whether it’s intentional or not. Sometimes he makes a concerted effort to bring your spirits up, other times he’s just being Luffy without a care in the world.
Is aware of your disability but thinks you’re even more amazing for it. He’s not one to think people who are disabled are any less capable of being wonderful people, even if there are certain things you can’t do.
This was actually a very close second but as your alternate matchup I would pair you with Sanji. He’s equally as supportive as Luffy but can be a bit smothering at times.

Okay so I've watched the first episode of the Netflix One Piece. And uh, so like I can't say its bad. But I can say I don't really like a lot of the changes. I get a lot of them but things like changing when nami joins up with luffy, or removing the scene where luffy pretends to have taken Koby hostage. Things just don't feel right. Like I said I cannot say this is bad, its just different in a way that I think leaves out some of the big emotional beats from the original. Also I don't like how Baroque Works is already being setup, just not my thing. Unless they also want to setup everything earlier? They do have the advantage of knowing pretty much all the story arcs in advance. Also idk how I feel about the actors, I think they're great actors but also they just feel too old? Luffy is very much a kid, if Oda hadn't said he was 17 at the start of the series I would've thought he was like 15. But this actor feels more like 20. Nami feels really old, shes lost the sense of someone being forced to act above her age. obviously no hate to the actors, like I said they do a great job themselves, I just wish they were able to cast younger people. (Sidenote: I just learned that apparently I'm a few months older than Iñaki Godoy???? So hes actually 20 lmao I guessed it right on) To be fair I do like how it all looks, the sets, costumes, and cg is really well done. And I did like how Morgan mentioned the black cat pirates already. I really hope this series ends up getting to at least enies lobby, maybe marineford. I think its doing really well overall, just as a One Piece Fan™ I have to dislike any changes. I really want to see what they do for gear 2. Also if they ever somehow got to gear 5 it would be fucking hilarious they would either fail miserably or it would be amazing. Anyway might keep watching, but really not feeling it that much right now. I think if I get to the baratie that might end up being their best arc? I think theres the least there that would be hard for them to do in live action, and probably the least stuff that can be fully cut.

Okay I think I’ll just compile my episode reactions together in one post. I don’t wanna fill my blog with numerous posts where I’m just liveblogging but also I can’t keep my mouth shut while watching these episodes apparently jgklsfg
Rambling stream of consciousness and reactions under the cut
Episode 987:
...Kinemon why are we changing the plan? Why are you changing Law’s plan? I do understand why if it’s because he’s worried for Momo, but also it’s making me worried because they just showed people criticizing Kinemon’s lack of abilities in making good plans so I’m worried about him deciding to split up his forces.....
Sanji you’re on main. I’ll give your character more attention again when you’ve pulled yourself together. I’m glad there were no women for you in the pleasure hall. Remain bitchless.
Eustass Kid and Killer have me sobbing. I’m a puddle. I adore these two’s relationship. I adore Killer being stunned by how much love and support he’s being shown by his captain and the crew after feeling like he’s been ruined by Orochi. How Kid knows how much this is affecting Killer regardless of how quiet Killer is about the whole thing, and how willing Kid is to murder anyone who even so much as laughs at Killer.
Episode 988:
Luffy angrily (who has, himself, also shattered the plan into a million pieces) : “GIZAO, STICK TO THE PLAN!” Kid: “Shove it up your ass!”
Okay I had to pause I was laughing so hard gjskflg I love them both so much. Also Luffy I’m actually gonna side with Kid on this one. You and Zoro got a pass on causing a scene because those assholes are intentionally wasting red bean soup while a little girl has to live her life starving and drinking polluted water to the point where eating a bowl of soup had sent her into tears. Kid absolutely gets a pass on tearing apart those who laugh at Killer.
Zoro: “It must be tough, having a captain so quick with his fists.” Killer: “No, it’s not. Kid is great.”
I’M GONNA SOB. STOP. I’M ALREADY DOWN ON THE GROUND. KILLER.
ZORO RESPONDING “Well, my situation’s not so different from yours.”
gay. gay. homosexuals. gay. God the first mates are so down bad for their captains. I love this exchange between them.
MARCO!!!!!!!!!! MARCO IS HERE!!! HELLO DEAR! ;;;v;;;;; I’m so glad he decided to come and help the Straw Hats and the Kozuki clan~ I just really really hope Whitebeard’s home does remain safe while he’s away. I was not going to fault him for wanting to be the guardian of Whitebeard’s last treasure. AND IZOU IS HERE!!! OH I’M GLADDDDD! My god he deserves to reunite with his sister after being being away from each other for over 20 years.
Momo. oh my poor boy. Baby hang in there. I hold this boy gently. He’s been through so much ;;;; Isn’t he like. 8 years old!? Yeah he’s 8 years old. My god.
POLAR TANG!!!! HELLO MY HEART PIRATES! Look at them go~ Love Law’s complete faith in them. And how they’re also confident they can pull off maneuvering the Polar Tang in the dangerous currents. He is their anchor.
Annnnnd, we’re back with Luffy and Zoro gjskjfg. Bless. “A dead end. You lost your way, didn’t you, Zoro?” GJSKFG I love his teasing Zoro but also... Luffy you’re standing right next to him. You’re as lost as he is. “No, We’ll just cut our path through.” “Okay, quietly though. We can’t ruin the plan.” Ah yes, just quietly cut down an entire wall inside the building. You two totally haven’t thrown the plan completely out the window already. God I love these idiots.
ENMA?!?! YOU GRAB *ENMA* TO QUIETLY CUT DOWN THE WALL?! Zoro I know you want to break in that sword and you’re obsessed with your new cursed spirit but- BOY. No.
Episode 989:
Godspeed Chopper. Being chased by fucking Big Mom herself? Terrifying.
I am so fascinated by Kanjuro as a villain. Some so detached from any sense of self. Unable to form opinions. Just seeing all those years he spent as a samurai and protecting the Kozuki family being just a ‘role’ he was playing. God, One Piece and all their traumatized kids. I love how different Oda has had trauma change and shape them. those like Law and Corazon and Momonosuke vs Doflamingo and Orochi and Kanjuro.
Izou you are so hot. That’s all I have to say about that brief conversation between the small whitebeard gang. Izou is just. Gender af.
OH OKAY, SPEAKING OF HOT APPARENTLY! Denjirooooo! Oh my god he’s so impressive. Love this man. Him slipping off his kimono to reveal the Kozuki crest on his back to reveal his identity to Sasaki, his former ally who trusted him? HOT.
Chopper with a rocket launcher gjsklfg I also love that the very powerful gun on the tank Franky made sounds like a clown honk. Why. gjslkdjg okay but I do love this whole ‘fight’. It’s so wonderful and ridiculous. Hang in there buds ;;;;
#FryTalks#One Piece#Wano#I... I see that I'm right before Yamato finally comes in ;;;;;; I wanna watch these next episodes so badly but also it's so late#SOON.#I want to meet him so badly!!!

2, 4, 5, 17, 18, 20?
2. first anime crush
Technically speaking, prolly Kagome from Inuyasha, but in fairness I was like 8 at the time and it was one of the few anime cartoons on early enough for me to watch.
Otherwise, prolly has to default to Riza Hawkeye from the first time I watched through Fullmetal Alchemist, since that was my gateway drug into anime.
4. least favorite anime character
Black Star from Soul Eater.
Gods, he’s such a good example on how NOT to writer a good character. He never learns, never changes, the one time it looks like he’ll have some character development, it’s ignored, and he never sees any consequences for it.
EXCALIBUR was less annoying than he was.
5. list all anime you have ever watched
Ah hell. Uh let’s see here…
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Durarara!!

Deadman Wonderland
Devilman Crybaby
Cowboy Bebop
One Punch Man
Steins;Gate
Noragami (incomplete)
Sonic X
17. biggest anime crush
Proooooobably Celty from DRRR!!
Otherwise it’s likely Saber from UBW.
…okay, badass women with kickass weapons and a strong moral compass are my type, okay?
18. 10 worst anime you have watched
Uh…hmm.
Okay I’ll list some of the ones I’ve quit, then, in no particular order:
Burst Angel (sorry @charlezarrd, but it was too much of a mess)
Elfen Lied (the opening episode alone speaks for itself. No fucking thank you. Not touching that with a ten-foot pole.)
One Piece (fucking Luffy’s the most irritating character ever, he’s worse than Naruto in my eyes)
Bleach (I tried, y’all. I tried hard with this one, too, but Ichigo’s just too damn boring. He’s better in the live-action adaptation where he can actually emote)
The Seven Deadly Sins (if they’d made Meliodas less of a creep and Elizabeth more useful and less of a standard damsel I’d have moved this series, but no, Meliodas had to be That One Character and it ruined everything, every time.)
Hellsing (made the mistake of thinking it would actually be amusing like the Abridged version, but no, it’s just bloody and kinda not great in terms of writing)
Attack on Titan (this is gonna make people mad, but the twists were obvious, I called the Titans as weapons of war instead of natural disasters, and Eren as a character is boring as heck outside of his powers, and I just couldn’t keep running with nothing to keep me interested for the first season. Levi, Eren, and Mikasa’s characters are frankly all wasted on that series, IMHO)
Blood of Zeus (seriously, they did NOTHING INTERESTING WITH THIS SHOW and had Zeus BE THE SAME HORNY BASTARD HE ALWAYS IS and somehow STILL FOUND A WAY TO MAKE HERA THE BAD GUY like WHAT the FUCK even Elias Toufexis as the lone sensible villain couldn’t save this series!)
Fate/Extra: Lost Encore (this falls prey to being Fate fodder. Sure, Cassandra Lee Morris as Nero is great…but also NERO is supposed to be the good one somehow, which…like…okay now the Saber twist isn’t even a twist anymore, it’s just you turning famous figures into blonde anime girls because it worked that one time. Aside from that there’s also very little actual PLOT for me to grab onto, and like…c’mon. It’s like they barely tried.)
Also I revisited Deltora Quest at one point and…I have no idea what 6-year-old-me was thinking. It’s terrible. Like. REALLY bad.
20. least favorite anime ships
I tend not to bash people for their ships, really, but like…I dunno something really rubs me the wrong way about the few folks I saw shipping Mao and CC from Code Geass.
Oh, and anyone that pairs Gilgamesh and Saber from UBW. The two despise each other. They would not make for a good pairing. Either Gilgamesh would need to acknowledge Saber as his equal (which he won’t, he refuses to the point of death in the series), or Saber will have to willingly become his plaything (which we ALSO see her resist to almost the point of death in the series), so I don’t get why people think that makes textual sense?
But again, I try not to actively bash people for shipping stuff. AUs are always a thing, after all, so…yeah. Whatever man. As long as nobody is hurting anyone over it, you do you.

Hewwo Hazel uwu 🔫😀👾😭😜😳⏰😏🎆💓?
Hewwo Bas! The UwU is strong today o(>ω<)o Thank you for your questions!
🔫 - Fave canon arc?
Thriller Bark. It made me laugh SO HARD. One piece is one of the few anime that genuinely makes me laugh out loud, usually im more of a “hmpft” blowing air out of my nose laught kinda gal, but one piece gave me a lot of joy and laughter, and mostly during thriller bark. Besides that, the fights and the general plot thickening and things coming together, and Zoro’s sacrifice all made this one of my top favorite archs! The pacing was very good as well, compared to, for example, Dressrosa.
😀 - Most favorite Straw Hat?
aaaaaa don’t make me choose This is very hard! The initial thought was Zoro because well it’s Zoro and most of his lines never fail to make me laugh. Robin is the one I admire most cause it’s the kind of lady idk if I wanna be her or be with her yknow? And Chopper also popped up because well.. he’s the absolute most adorable bean and I love him and his cuteness.
I’m gonna conclude a tie between Zoro and Robin, and Chopper can be on their shoulders being adorable? (´・ᴗ・ ` )
👾 - Fave villain?
Perona as far as she was an actual villain, her negative spooks are the best attack ever and no one can tell me otherwise.
In terms of bigger antagonists, probably the Charlotte family? I’m counting them as one, just for now, since they are all super interesting and I like seeing them on screen more than ceasar or moria or doffy and 100000x more than friggin Blackbeard (Imagine me using the ‘dinkleberg voice’ whenever I say blackbeard). Doffy is a good villain. But he makes me too mad so he only gets a flaminglemention and not the top spot ha.
😭 - Saddest scene?
Just like one piece is the series that made me laugh he most, it’s also the one that made me cry the most. Almost embarrassingly much. I ugly sobbed for a few hours straight around Ace’s death. I was spoiled, I knew it was gonna happen, but I did not know how exactly, so ehm from impel down on, every scene they showed him I teared up at least. (oops). BUT there was one other scene that made me cry a lot that I have to mention because I did not expect to cry for that moment. I knew about the time skip, I knew about the training, I knew they were gonna take some time off to get stronger. BUT I did not know how and when and the circumstances. The moment Kuma separated them, the agony and the helplessness. My heart. I could not take it. That was too sad.
Honorable mentions for the Bellemere scene very early on and saying goodbye to merry. Just too many heartbreaking moments but I feel that’s what makes the series so nice, you need to get hurt sometimes in order to get more attached to characters.
😜 - Funniest character?
Ehm. In terms of delivering hilarious one-liners and making me laugh while not actually being funny on purpose: Zoro. The dumb is too much and is hilarious. He says funny things while not being funny and there’s just too many peak comedy moments in him getting lost or ‘wanting to get made into a wax statue in this pose”.
Luffy gets a mention in situational humor too because that dumbassery is hilarious as well.
Other than that. Probably a tie between Usopp and Franky. It’s just so stupid, but the sheer simpleness of most of the humor makes it so easy to digest and look at!
😳 - Any crushes?
Any? Many! ehm, to not make this answer a couple thousand words long, quickfire! Ace, he has the charisma, the feralness, the politeness and the freckles. Shanks, he’s just the sweetest, sexiest mystery man who knows what his priorities are. Sabo, all the feralness, less of the politeness, all of the cuteness. His smile can revive puppies. Zoro: the Dumbassery, the muscles, the brutal honesty and that soff soff mossy hair. Kid: again, the dumbassery, the rudeness while still caring for his bunch of misfits. I love me a good tulip. Robin: The beauty, the grace, the humor, the fashion, the intellect. Again, dk if i want to be her or be with her. Vivi: The courage, the love, the sweetness amongst the badassery, step on me princess. Honorable mentions for Killer, A bunch of people showing up in Wano that I’ve only seen spoilers pop up for. And writing some character has had me reconsidering all the crushes all together. In conclusion: WHY IS EVERYONE IN ONE PIECE SO ATTRACTIVE??? safe for you Blackbeard honey, you could fall off a cliff and I’d applaud.
⏰ - How long have you been into One Piece?
Not that long at all. When I was 14? ish I started my anime journey. I watched 15-20? episodes of One Piece and hated it. Around that time one piece was somewhere in between 500-600 eps and I could not imagine ever catching up to that, especially since my strict parents limited my computer use to 3h a week.
Then a friend really got into it I think about 5? years ago and kept talking about it and how it was actually good. I was starting to do an effort to watch all the ‘big’ and ‘must-see’ anime and promised myself I’d watch One Piece, eventually.
Then this year at the end of October 2019 I actually started watching it. I had grown up a lot, and could now appreciate the anime way more for what it was? I fell in love and binged the entire thing in more or less six months with some small breaks in between for work, school, books, and other anime. Highly considering re-downloading so I can rewatch my favorite parts soon. My biggest problem is that once I love something, I go ALL IN and I will love everything about it and obsess. And thus this Tumblr was created as the hiatus started and I wanted something One Piece to keep me distracted. I eventually want to collect the manga but I now don’t have the space for it in my tiny room.
😏 - Favorite scene?
Sabo and Luffy reuniting! The reveal, the tears, the hug, and the ridiculousness of Luffy with the beard and all, just made it perfect. Absolutely loved it.
OH and Luffy punching the celestial dragon. The absolute energy in that scene made me grin like an idiot yet gave me goosebumps. Punch those slave-owning bitches luffy, thank you!
🎆 - Something you can’t wait for??!!
ALL of what is to come in Wano. I’ve been catching spoilers here and there and i just cannot wait! There’s gonna be so much reveals and new characters and comebacks and all the things I did not know I need in my life.
And I would like some more reveals on Shanks and his crew since we literally know next to nothing about them, besides the fact that even the admirals seemed to be at least wary of their powers and I just really need to know. (or not, since mystery adds to the charm).
I can’t wait for the abolishment of the government and the death/defeat of blackbeard (assuming that will happen at some point, a girl can dream).
💓 - Which character do you relate to the most?
SO HARD. Hardest question. Ehm... Ace and Usopp I think? I struggle with family a lot, but I have a chosen family that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I am hella insecure, but I try my best most of the time and I am extremely loyal, even though I have no particular talents, I try and help here and there and hopefully can make some people happy that way!
If you read all the way through here, thank you for coming to my Ted talk! It was so long („• ֊ •„) but it was also so much fun (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚

FEATURE SERIES: My Favorite One Piece Arc with Steve Yurko
I love One Piece and I love talking to people who love One Piece. And with the series going on 23 years now, there is a whole lot to talk about. As the series is about to publish its 1000th chapter, a true feat in and of itself, we thought we should reflect upon the high-seas adventure and sit down with some notable names in the One Piece fan community and chat about the arcs they found to be especially important, or just ones they really, really liked.
Welcome to the next article in the series "My Favorite One Piece Arc!"
My next guest in this series is Steve Yurko, co-host of The One Piece Podcast, a podcast with a subject you can probably guess. He's also a former storyboard artist for Rick & Morty and is currently working for Netflix Animation. As a ride-or-die Sanji fan, Steve chose the Baratie Arc, where Luffy and the gang run into an East Blue restaurant with a cool chef that loves to cook and kick.
A note on spoilers: If you haven't seen the Baratie arc yet, this interview does contain major plot points. Watch the Arlong Park arc starting RIGHT HERE if you'd like to catch up or rewatch!
Dan Dockery: So a friend tells you, "I'm done with the Syrup Village arc and I'm not sure if I want to watch this next one. I think I might be tapped out on this whole One Piece thing. In one sentence, how do you get them to stay and watch the Baratie arc?
Steve Yurko: The Baratie arc laid down the foundation and created the formula of the One Piece arc as we know it.
That's pretty good!
Yeah, I’d say that, when I first started it, One Piece was my third favorite. I was more of a fan of series like Shaman King and Naruto, but after Baratie, things shifted. It was a turning point for me. I would hope that it would do the same for anyone who’s, say, previously apathetic towards the series.

How old were you when you first read it? Or watched it?
It feels weird to say this, but my introduction to One Piece was Chapter 1. Like Dragon Ball Z, the first episode I can remember watching was, like, Yamcha training on King Kai’s planet, and I’d get Goku and Yamcha confused and stuff, because I had just dived in. So for me to start a story like One Piece from the beginning is kind of rare. I was 15, I think.
So, we're jumping into Baratie, and we first see the guy with the brass knuckles, Fullbody. He's trying to act cool on a date and he's being mean to everyone else. And then we have Sanji being typical Cool Sanji and Fullbody acts up and Sanji just tears through him. How did you react? Did you know immediately that you'd like this waiter?
Well, I don't want to alarm you here, but my first thought was “Sanji’s cool!” I’d seen images of him before, and I saw his black suit and blond hair and I figured, “Oh, another crew member, probably. Looks distinct enough.” So I often have to look back and wonder “Did I like him because of his edgy coolness?” but I think now it’s because there were more layers to him. Like, he definitely stands out from the other Straw Hats, but he also has this distinct fighting style with cool reasoning. He’s a cook and he doesn’t want to bust up his hands trying to punch people in the face, so he uses his feet. So, he does like these cool capoeira kicks, which only gets better as they go along because I feel like so many anime characters, the stronger they get, the more they start to fight the same with fast volleys of punches and laser blasts. So Sanji’s kicks are a great way to differentiate himself from the main cast and other anime heroes.
So, then we have Luffy, he shows up by damaging the Baratie. Enter: Zeff. Full disclosure: In my infinite naivete when I first watched One Piece, I thought Zeff was going to be the new crew member. And then I thought Gin was going to join the Straw Hat crew. And then when Sanji finally joined, I was like, "This guy? Really? Dark horse candidate over here."
You didn’t know yet?

I guess I hadn't watched the first ED yet — when the crew slowly shows up and stands beside one another.
You saw Usopp’s silhouette appear and thought, “Eh, I’ve seen enough.”
"That must be all of them."
It happens.
So, you meet Zeff, and you learn about Sanji and Zeff's relationship, and we get a big One Piece flashback. What do you think of that? Because it would become a staple of the series to kinda pause, see what happened to an important guy, and then come back.
Such an incredible story and so gruesome and terrifying. Sanji’s original flashback is so underrated because it could happen to anyone! Like, you’d have to go out of your way to get stranded on an island, but going days and weeks without food or any real comfort? I think people underestimate how traumatizing that would be. And then Zeff losing his leg because he hacked it off for food, it’s brutal. Just thinkin’ about that, I feel it in my shins. Because that almost happened to me with a minor injury. I let a minor injury get infected, and I could’ve been close to losing a leg.

Wait, what? Gahd.
I was doing box jumps at a gym, and my shin hit the corner of this wooden crate.
Yeah, those things have no give in them.
Absolutely. And at the time, I thought it was just this dark spot on my shin. And I figured it was, ya know a bruise. So I let it be. And then I picked at the scab and I realized “Wow, that’s a little deeper than I thought. I guess I’ll go to the doctor if it gets worse.” And I kept going to the gym, wearing pants over like this open wound. And my left leg is so swollen. So I went to two different doctors, as the first one did tests and then sent me to another one. And when this doctor saw me, the look on her face said “Oh, this is bad.” So I laughed out loud about how dumb I was and the doctor turned to me and said “This isn’t funny. This IS SERIOUS.” It had gotten infected with bacteria and it was spreading, and she just took a sharpie and drew around the infected area, and gave me antibiotics and was like “You have to keep this elevated, and if the redness goes outside of this line, go to the hospital.” But luckily, I recovered, even though the doctors were like “Honestly, we thought you’d go to the hospital.” So when Zeff severs his foot with a rock, how does anyone not feel that?
Do you think that's one of the reasons Luffy is fascinated by Sanji at first? His mentor, Shanks, lost his arm and was cool about it. Zeff lost his leg and was cool about it. Basically twins.
That’d be an interesting conversation that we never got to see. Just two dudes talking about how weird it is that both their father figures did that, with only Luffy thinking it’s cool.

Don Krieg's ship gets blown in half by an incomprehensibly cool character, Mihawk, the first Warlord to appear in the show. You see Mihawk arrive — what is your reaction to him? Because it's not a case of "The villain of the villain is my friend," but rather "Oh, he did that to the villain? I hope he does not do that to us, as that would suck."
It’s almost like the good guys meeting the bad guys, and then a tornado comes in. But here’s the thing: I missed the issue of Jump where Zoro fought Mihawk. So I assumed that Zoro had just won. The greatest swordsman in the world shows up and Zoro beats him. Boom. The climax of his character arc has been achieved. Nothing left for Zoro.
He just did it.
I didn’t find out until so much later that Zoro lost. I wasn’t quite aware of what made for a captivating story yet. At that time, an obstacle appears, an obstacle gets taken out, ya move on. I almost want to apologize to Mihawk.
I love how One Piece does this though. They do it with Smoker and Aokiji and the like. It reminds me of The Witcher III when you go off the path a little bit, and you're at a Level 4 and then a Level 39 Gryphon swoops down and decapitates you. It keeps the "power levels" interesting.
Luffy starts up Breath of the Wild and goes right for Calamity Ganon. But Mihawk is like the analogy for the Grand Line. He represents it, without revealing too much. Mihawk is like a Pizza Hut demo disc of danger.
I really like that. And no one knows, to this day, exactly how powerful he is. Over 20 years later, and we're still wondering how he matches up against Shanks or Blackbeard or whatever. One Piece has so many characters where Oda hasn't shown his full hand in regards to them, yet we're totally emotionally invested in them. That's good storytelling.
He’s doing something right. And I love that Mihawk has a little character arc here, too, where he shows up nonchalantly slicing up Krieg’s ships, probably doesn’t expect much, and then he’s taken aback by Zoro’s gusto, because he hasn’t seen anyone like that in a while. And he slices Zoro down. But he respects him, when in the beginning, he clearly didn’t respect anyone around. Mihawk wants to see him be better and try to take him down one day. For him to willingly build someone up like that is rare. Like Frieza wouldn’t do that.

So, Don Krieg — what were your opinions of him at the time? Because he's a really bad guy surrounded by more morally grey guys like Mihawk and Gin.
What I like about the East Blue saga is that every main villain is an antithesis of Luffy and what makes Luffy a truly great captain. Buggy is all about treasure. Kuro is about ambition and the fortitude to be a pirate. Krieg is about might and strength, and Krieg thinks he has both of those because of his weapons and armor. But Luffy has willpower and ambition and doesn’t let the world change his views. Luffy is incorruptible whereas Krieg is willing to poison his own crew when stuff starts going south. Krieg isn’t fondly remembered, but he really serves his purpose in the story.
So, after Krieg is defeated, Sanji turns down Luffy's offer to join the Straw Hat crew. Now, he knows this is a bad idea. He's not gonna find the All Blue floating around on the Baratie. Why doesn't he go immediately?
Well, he knows it’s a bad idea but he’s completely misinterpreting Zeff’s sacrifice. He feels that since Zeff sacrificed his leg, he has to repay him by working for him indefinitely. But the reason that Zeff did that was because he wants Sanji to live on and chase his dream. That’s why Zeff took pity on him in the first place. He’s an older, worn-down man now, and he stopped chasing his dream. And now he wants to see Sanji or someone get a win. It lifts his spirit to see Sanji and live kinda vicariously through him.
So, the second time I ever cried over One Piece was during Sanji's goodbye and Zeff's "Don't catch a cold." The first time was when that little dog was trying to protect his dead owner's shop in Orange Town, but that's a different story. But this shot of Sanji on his knees thanking Zeff with all the cooks surrounding them is so iconic, and Sanji's acting like it's a gift that Zeff gave him that Sanji could never repay, while as you said, Zeff just wants Sanji to be happy. What did you get out of that? I assume that you're a human with human emotions.
I cry every time I watch that. When I first saw it, I was like “How? How is a series this good?” And there’s so much to that ending sequence. Because the Baratie is built on this rough, angry masculinity. Just these dudes being mean and fighting each other and customers all the time. There’s never a time or a place for lending a shoulder to someone else. No emotional embraces of any kind. Just everyone berating everyone. No one can open up — just stupid man babies. And then you get to this moment where Sanji is leaving and they’re all trying to be cool while playing it off. Especially Zeff, who can’t give a legitimate goodbye, but rather a “Don’t catch a cold.” But there’s so much to that statement and the facade crumbles. All these grown men start bawling.

I've never thought about it that way. There's all these little hints of kindness, like feeding the bad guys, and it's a masculinity powder keg. And then Sanji, in an ultimate display of putting his heart out there, bows to the man who saved him and the keg explodes. That's really cool.

Soooo... I saw an One Piece tag in Reddit, and for some reason I really like doing tags, even though no one gives a fuck about it. Since I have nothing better to do, LET’S ANSWER IT!
1 - Who is your favorite character and why? (Additionally, who is you fav Straw Hat?)
Most people would guess that it’s Sanji, since I’m crazy for this boy literally since I put my eyes on him... But my favorite character is Luffy, because without him, I wouldn’t stay interested in One Piece for much time. I kept watching the anime because I thought he was a funny and interesting protagonist, and it changed my life.
Besides, he is everything I love in a character (Especially in a protagonist): Dreamer, determinated, funny loyal and dumb. He inspired/inspires me in many, many ways, and I just love this strawhat boy.
2 - Who is your favorite villain and why?
That’s a tough one... Arlong impacted me the most (I hate, haaaaate his guts!) and Lucci akuma-no-mi is pretty cool. But I’m saying Crocodile. I mean, c’mon, the guy tricked an entire kingdom, defeated Luffy TWICE (I think it was twice, correct me if I’m saying shit), had an entire organization... And had banana crocodiles and a cool casino. And his akuma-no-mi is badass too. I kind of hope that he appears again in these recents arcs, even if it’s very unlikely!
3 - What is your favorite quote or statement?
Oh man, there’s so many of them... Screw that, I’m making a small list.
- "When does a man die? Does he die when he's been shot? No. Does he die when he's ravaged with disease? No. Does he die when he's been poisoned? NO! A man dies when, and only when, he is FORGOTTEN! “
- "A man's dream will never die!"
- “The government says your existence is a crime, but no matter what kind of weapons you may hold, just being alive isn't a sin! THERE'S NO CRIME IN LIVING!!!''
- “Don't start a fight you can't finish.”
4 - Who is your favorite female character?
Urgh, I love all my girls! I love Robin, Vivi and Nami nearly equally, but I’m saying Nami. Her backstory was the first one that actually made me cry. It’s amazing to think that he was stealing from pirates that could kill her, even though that she was just a child! That moment when she asked for help... Damn, it brings me chills.
And I also love how even though she was already extremely important for the crew while being only the navigator, she still wanted to become stronger, and asked for Usopp to create the Clima Tact. She uses her intelligence to fight, fights for her friends when it’s necessary and still saves everyone’s butts by being the amazing navigator we know!
5 - What is your favorite fight?
I gotta say the fight against Lucci. Not only was a very intense battle and it was the first time Luffy used a Gear, but I love its meaning. If he needs to kick the World Government’s ass to save a crewmate, he will absolutely do it. Nothing shall stand in his and his nakama’s way!
6 - What is your favorite episode?
Well, I don’t ACTUALLY watch the anime since Alabasta. After that, I’ve only watched a few loose episodes, so I don’t know a lot about the anime. But I’m saying the episode that Brook joined the crew. The expressions and the voice acting are just on point!
7 - What is your favorite One Piece opening?
We Are!, of freaking course. It’s the only opening that I never skipped while I watched the anime. Although We Go! comes in a close second. Believe in Wonderland is good too.
8 - What is your favorite movie, special or "episode of"?
I did enjoyed Strong World and 3D2Y a lot, but Gold was amazeballs, starting with that freaking catchy song in the beginning. The animation is GORGEOUS, Tesoro is very interesting in my opinion, the outfits are amazing, and the final battles were pretty cool too. I didn’t liked Carina very much, tho
9 - What is your favorite arc in One Piece?
Alabasta, without any doubt. Baroque Works was freaking charismatic, the scenarios were interesting as hell, Vivi was an amazing character in general, the battles were intense and fun, and it’s such a funny arc! I really like the filler were Ace spends a while with the Strawhats too. Water 7 comes in a close second place.
10 - What is your favorite One Piece videogame?
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. It’s so much fun to play with characters like Hancock, Ace, Law and Tashigi! The story log is very nostalgic and the dream log is addicting as hell.
11 - If you were in the One Piece universe, who's crew would you join and why?
What kind of question is that? Strawhat Crew, of course! They all have this sense of one for all and all for one, and they really look like a family, and this is very heart-warming to me.
12 - What is the saddest One Piece moment?
Weeeeeeell... I’ve been stuck in Dressrosa for a while, and the saddest moment in my opinion is at Whole Cake. I took EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE SPOILER of this arc, though. Without hesitation, it’s Sanji’s backstory. I feel like crying when I only see PICTURES of his backstory... I don’t even want to think what I’m going to feel when I actually get in Whole Cake. Sanji occupies a very special place in my heart, so it hurts a lot to see that this was his past. Congratulations, Oda, you completely broke my heart once again. Also, Pudding can stick her finger in her third eye and go to hell
13 - What is the most shocking moment?
The third scene that made me cry in One Piece: Usopp VS Luffy in Water 7. These two are such good friends! That’s why I remember that I was freaking out when they began to fight.
14 - What is the funniest One Piece moment and who is the funniest character?
There are plenty of funny moments in this beautiful story, so I’m going to say more than one. Zoro getting lost, Luffy’s impressions, Robin’s imagination and all the “Can you poop?” moments. And of course that Luffy is the funniest character.
15 - What is the most memorable moment?
That moment when Luffy gets Zoro’s swords, and he defends his captain for the first time. C’mon, it’s the beginning of the crew!
“Nice, Zoro!”
“It was no trouble, Captain.”
16 - What is your favorite ability in One Piece?
Hana-Hana No Mi. It’s elegant, has many uses and it can be powerful as heck. I totally want it! Emperor’s Haki is a close second, tho...
17 - Do you own any One Piece merchandise? (Official or not)
Many of them! All the mangas that were/are being released on Brazil, the special editions (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green and Wanted!) an giant wallpaper, plenty of posters, many figure actions, an Sanji cosplay, a flag, a strawhat, a keychain and a notepad (The last two actually came from Japan!), a necklace and a shirt.
18 - Do you prefer watching One Piece in sub or dub?
As I said up there, I’m brazilian... So I never actually had acess to the english dub, and the portuguese dub (It’s a very good dub, btw) came out before I knew One Piece. So, it’s sub.
19 - What is the #1 thing you love the most about One Piece?
I’m a sucker for this kind of thing: The whole dreams, freedom, friendship and bravery message that it passes. I keep the lessons that One Piece gave me deep in my heart. They give me hope and happiness in hard moments.
20 - What is the #1 thing you hate the most about One Piece?
There’s two of them: The brazilian fandom and what they did to Sanji after the timeskip. Brazil’s fandom is full of toxicity, arguing, homophobia and sexism. And Sanji was so smooth and serious before the timeskip, but I feel like he became a gag after the timeskip. Where’s the suave Sanji, goddamnit?!
21 - Does One Piece take your number 1 spot in your top 10 animes? (If not, where?)
Absolutely yes. One Piece saved me from dispair countless times. Its jokes, its lessons, its characters... And if it weren’t for One Piece, I wouldn’t have known half of my friends, and honestly, I don’t know where I was going to be nowdays if I didn’t had them. In many aspects, One Piece saved my life. I’m eternally grateful to Oda. One Piece is a huge inspiration to me in both emotional aspects and in a writer’s point of view. Watching One Piece was the best choice I ever made, because that silly strawhat boy changed my life and took me out of the darkness many times. I love this masterpiece with all my soul.
#one piece#tag#tags#reddit tags#this last part was actually very deep#but 100% truthful#i got a little emotional tbh#but i have no regrets

Whispering softly
So this is for Day 20 of the ZoNami Holiday 2017! Nothing Christmassy but all the more fluffier. I had this in mind ever since I watched the Zou arc and now I finally wrote it down!
Might contain slight spoilers for One Piece episode 766 and the Zou arc in genereal since I rewrote a scene from that very episode.
I dedicate this story to our lovely @maidenoftheworld for organizing one event after the other to keep our love for ZoNa alive and because she once said she loved the Zou arc.
I hope you guys enjoy reading!
Zoro relaxed against the bench in his back as he listened to Luffy and the others talking to Pekoms in his sickroom. The night was warm and pleasant and even though he didn’t join the others he didn’t miss a word that was said. Didn’t miss the worried gasps or the curt shocked scream of the witch as Pekoms told them about Sanji’s family.
~Stupid cook!~ He thought. ~Should have known better than to run off like this. Now, they are all worried for him!~ Zoro gritted his teeth. Even though he had just played it down on their way over and even fought Nami about it, he couldn’t deny that he was slightly… concerned.
Not about the dartboard eyebrow in particular, of course. But something always felt off when the crew wasn’t complete, so Zoro couldn’t help staying alert.
He listened to Pekoms explanations and was just about to think he might understand their cook a little bit better now when his thoughts were interrupted by a loud crash and painful noises by Pekoms.
Zoro could hear Luffy’s vocal exclamation about bringing back their friend. The determination in his capatain’s voice brought a proud grin to the swordsman’s face.
Next to that, Luffy’s footsteps sounded through the air before he came to a halt at Zoro’s side, startled by his presence.
“Zoro, you’re here! Did you hear all of that?” Luffy asked, obviously pleased to see him.
Not even bothering to open his eye, Zoro answered boredly “Just barely.”
His captain just laughed at his words. “You’re worried about Sanji, aren’t you?” he assumed, making Zoro frown and open his eye to throw an annoyed glare at his friend.
“I’ll kick you, you fool! I told you to forget about that idiot!” He would never admit being worried about Sanji because he wasn’t. He just wasn’t.
Luffy just laughed more at his retort before waving him goodbye and running off into the night, shouting something about having to find Chopper and the others.
Zoro just growled displeased and closed his eye again. Arms still crossed lazily behind his head, he listened to Wanda’s attempts to calm down a flustered Pekoms before a quiet conversation commenced.
He let his thoughts wander, dozing off to the calm words in the background and just enjoying the first real quiet moment since they landed on Zou.
He was just about to fall asleep when he felt a presence coming closer in his direction. Zoro’s mind focused again but he didn’t feel the need to reach for his swords. He would recognize this presence everywhere.
Nami sat down next to him on the bench without a word and moved in close to him to press herself into his side and rub her cheek against his shoulder.
Zoro didn’t even flinch, just let her snuggle up to him but then Nami suddenly purred: “Garchu.”
Zoro opened his eye to stare at her in utter disbelief. He threw the Straw Hat navigator a pointed look, willing her to cut that crap immediately without saying a word.
Nami just grinned back at him mischievously, the sparkle in her eye telling Zoro that she wasn’t done with her shenanigans. She pulled her feet under her body so that she was kneeling sideways on the bench.
This angle gave her even better access to Zoro’s body and she repeated saying “Garchu!” some more times while rubbing her cheek against him.
Finally, Zoro had enough and he took down his hands from behind his head to wind his left arm around Nami’s waist.
“Stop this stupid minkship shit, woman!” He gritted out between his teeth, trying to sound annoyed but he had to avert his gaze from Nami as his mouth twitched traitorously.
Nami didn’t miss this and nudged Zoro’s chin gently with her nose. “Garchu.”
“Enough already, witch!” Zoro said exasperatedly before adding, much gentler: “I missed you, too.”
He looked back at her, just to catch the loving smile that graced her features while his heart skipped a beat. He leaned in to give her a gentle kiss, just a soft touch, on her lips.
Zoro leaned back again, seeing her smiling even wider and happier than before and he bent forward once more to steal another kiss, just because he could.
This time, he took more time, his tongue silently seeking for entrance to tangle with her own. He tightened his left arm around her body whereas his right hand came up to cup her face.
They parted when the need for air became too strong and Nami hid her face in the crook of Zoro’s neck and rested her hand on his chest while he held her close, laying his chin on top of her head.
Zoro breathed in her unique mikan scent, a scent he had missed terribly while being separated for what felt like an eternity. They sat like that for a while, enjoying each other’s presence and their little moment of peace before Luffy found the rest of the crew and they had to keep away from each other again.
As if on cue, they heard voices coming from the woods Luffy had disappeared into just moments ago. Their captain must have bumped into their friends already.
“There goes the peacefulness” Nami whispered into his skin. It was the first thing she had said since they were sitting outside together. Zoro just chuckled and held her closer before he ultimately had to let her go.
Knowing their moment was about to be over, Nami nuzzled his neck with her nose again. When she gently said “garchu” once more and Zoro could feel her lips turn into a smile against his skin, he placed a gentle kiss on her head before whispering softly: “Garchu.”
As you can see, this IS established relationship but in my mind ZoNa hasn’t come out to the crew (yet). I didn’t want to explore the reasons for this, so it’s up to you to explain this for yourself ;)
Thanks for reading!

SAIYAN RAP CYPHER - Lyrics | FabvL
SAIYAN RAP CYPHER - Lyrics | FabvL
SAIYAN RAP CYPHER | FabvL ft. RUSTAGE, Daddyphatsnaps, Dan Bull, NerdOut & More [Dragon Ball]

No way, royal blood, got it running through my chest Don't play, stupid villains, I could kill without regret All day, listen up, you will do whatever that I say! NerdOut:- Y'all done screwed up I acquired the jewels and now I'm fused up You about to get bruised up Best of both worlds, I use superior stragedy You're not even half the man that used to be half of me You choosing defeat If I wave my arm, the wind will put holes in you Now that's shooting the breeze Go ask Majin Buu, oops it's too late I'm out for 60 minutes, but for you? I only use 8 Laughing while I'm waiting for this union to dissolve 'Cause I don't think the ladies are approving a ménage But if Chichi and Bulma wanna cuddle tonight They better watch out 'cause now I got double the pipe And Gogeta's no match, he stay losing He had to do choreographed Tik Tok dances to make a fusion So which Super Saiyan are you choosing? These dim-witted half-pints or pinnacle of evolution Rustage:- Hit that, Wukong with the staff breaking bodies like a Kit Kat Rip your team in half like I'm moses when I split that Whiplash punches like it's gift wrapped, spit facts Treat you all like Frieza with a bitch-slap Saiyan from the planet of the apes, I'm not playing Best be praying to this God I'm raising stakes I ain't waiting, I be saving every person, every race Passion blazing 'cus I'm facing any aliens in my way Say my name, call me Goku Hanuman, stand my ground, yeah I won't move Chris Chan, when I'm loud with a blown fuse Understand, hear the sound of your bones bruise Go through faster than my flows do A monkey but better than Luffy, I'm king of the planets Ain't needing no piracy I'm stunning, just look at my moves, I'm top of the charts And I'm needing no rivalry And finally, they're fighting me bust in beats like it's Chichi Easy your characters tough, but can they beat me? Daddyphatsnaps:- So you made this far, huh? Now you and me Hahahahaha Somebody hold me back, I'm going berserk And at the rate I'm going, bro I'm 'bout to blow up the Earth It's lunch time, eat your every punch, I'm knowing it hurts your pride Legendary Saiyan, I was chosen at birth, I'm the truth 'Cus I always been the hardest, I'm a bad bitch You had to work to get to where I started so savage Had the Super Saiyan gods saying "oh damnit" He's so made bitch, he breaking up the whole planet Well, if it's gonna go, then I got something I should get off my chest And I ain't talkin' 'bout the X, see you sipping the flex I got these little green bitches out here gripping my pecs I'm ill turn you green bitches then your hitting the deck I'm a god damn God, are you out of your mind? It's strange, millions of scenarios, you die every time Murder you without a trace and 'geta brought me the lime You'll get bodied out your body if you rowdy with mine
