nine years. It had been nine years.
The first year felt unrealistic. It was strange. going from being side by side with each other almost 24/7 to no contact at all. [Name] didn’t know what she did wrong, just that one day Satoru and Suguru decided they didn’t want her in their life anymore.
She remembered everything of their last day together, every once in a while it would suddenly pop back up into her head, but in that first year, it replayed again and again; every day.
“Suguru!” [Name] had called out to one of the two teenage boys as she caught up to them “hi!”
Suguru flung his arm around the girl's shoulders, pulling her into his side as she greeted Satoru.
“Where have you been, doll? We were looking for you.”
[Name] laughed as she grabbed their hands and pulled them along. “Shoko and I accidentally forgot to sleep, so when I did fall asleep around ten I was doomed to wake up late.”
The two boys looked at each other and smiled, the little ball of sunshine walking in front still pulling them along.
“So four hours of sleep and already this energetic? you still gotta teach me that trick.” Satoru commented as he looked at her, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. She replied with a ‘real magicians don’t explain their best tricks’
After they walked for a while, they finally reached the top of a mountain, looking down on the city below.
The beginning of summer break celebration was going on, kids from their private school and from public schools in the city came together to celebrate. Many people crowded the streets, there was music, and they could see everything perfectly.
“look who knows the best spots once again”
They had spent the entire afternoon on the top of that mountain since classes were canceled due to the celebration, their fellow students were down there, having fun.
But as they were probably dancing and partying; Satoru took on the challenge to chase [Name] around the hill, she yelped and ran behind the other boy, clutching to the back of his shirt for protection as she heard the two boys negotiate.
“Don’t you dare Suguru,” she warned, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. He placed one of his hands on hers and suddenly pulled her to the front. “Not you too please! ah!” she yelped, but the next moment she was giggling, she could never stand a chance against their tickle war. Ever since they found out she was very ticklish a few years ago it had become a thing for them to annoy her with. Whenever it was if she were sad, annoyed, angry, or if they felt like it, the boys would look at each other and [Name] would run instantly if she saw. (Which she most of the time didn’t and fell into their grasp giggling.)
Later at night they went back to the school, they had watched the sun set, then the fireworks, and then [name] and Satoru listened and looked in awe as Suguru pointed out constellations in the night sky. It was perfect.
At some point her eyes fell and she slept. The black haired boy looked down at her sleeping on Satoru's shoulder before giving a sad smile.
“She will never forgive us.”
“But at least we'll protect her.”
The next morning when [name] woke up in the room she shared with Shoko there was a little note on her nightstand.
‘you’re gonna be okay’ in Satoru’s messy and rushed handwriting. She got dressed and ran out of her room, looking for her best friends. what did Satoru mean with that she was gonna be okay?
She looked all over the grounds, the dining hall, library, common rooms, classrooms, the fields and gardens. Eventually she decided to also check their dorm. Girls and boys weren’t originally allowed in each other's dorm rooms, but since everyone was packing their stuff for summer the teachers didn’t care. So she followed the familiar path towards the boys their shared room. The posters were gone from their door, but they probably took those down first she thought. [name] knocked on the door, no reaction. She opened the door to find it completely empty except for the furniture that belonged to the school.
Graduation was next week, why were they moved out already? For the last few years they always did that together. Where were they? As she turned around and bumped into Nanami, he looked just as confused as he took in the empty room.
He looked at her, his mouth opening but no sound coming out. She knew what he was gonna ask, “They’re putting their stuff into the car or?”
She showed him the note in her hand and Nanami just got more question marks behind his eyes.
For a week she wondered where they were, she held hope they’d come knocking on her temporary apartment building her parents owned as she waited in the city for graduation. However; no knock came, no call, no letter or note, nothing. Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru disappeared from the radar.
When graduation rolled around word went round that Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru would not be attending. They had waited for this moment for she didn’t know how long. Plans were made to go out with their other friends after, they had plans for the future! But now, instead of her two best friends cheering on her louder than anyone else as she held her valedictorian speech, her other friends cheered double as hard. They knew she’d been struggling this week. Shoko had crashed at her temporary apartment since she didn’t want to deal with her parents. Nanami also came by daily, and if they hadn’t been there, no one would’ve known what would’ve happened to [name].
The second year was still unbearable. [Name] worked a lot, saving money, attending college, going out with her friends on the weekends. She often found herself looking to her sides, expecting to see one of her two former best friends walking there. She always looked for them in crowds, she looked everywhere, but they were nowhere to be found.
In the third year [name] finally figured out her future. She was in her third year but decided to drop out. She saved a lot of money, and she was relatively well off so she bought a building in the busy city and within six months the place opened to a magnificent night club and partially a cafe two times a week. It took a lot of promotion, and a lot of patience until the place blew up.
In just the first year that it opened, she gained so much she paid off the entire loan of the building. It hit off with people her age, and at just nineteen [name] was going to become one of the youngest millionaires of her time, she just didn’t know it yet.
Her friends loved the place too, and they were immensely proud of [name] after what she had gone through a few years prior. She proved to the world that the only person she truly needed was herself and that she could do whatever she wanted to.
The second year after opening the fourth without Gojo and Geto [name] opened a second location of her club across the world in Los Angeles.
And now nine years later, and six locations in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, NYC, Paris and London [Name] had in fact become the fastest growing self made millionaire at her age. She lived in Beverly Hills, had her own place designed and built and she was living the life.
Now; in her bathroom it was still a calm Saturday night but she knew that in an hour she would be in her own club, observing the people as she sipped on her drink. Saturdays were the busiest; first day of the weekend but that also meant a lot of money.
“Scarlett?” [name] called out to her assistant who walked towards the entrance of the bathroom. “Take two weeks off, alright? Paid vacation of course, take your wife anywhere you want, put it on my bill. It’s summer and you haven’t been on a break since last year. It’s not up for debate.” She was fixing the last strands of her hair before turning towards the woman in her doorframe who looked a bit ill at her words. “Now, how do I look?” she gave Scarlett a smile.
“As beautiful as always. And… Are you sure you’ll be fine? I mean… Two weeks is a lot.” Scarlett loved her job, not because it paid well, or because her boss was very generous. She loved her job because her boss felt more like a close friend rather than a boss.
“You’re right, make it three weeks. You deserve it, you and your wife both. I’ll be fine, I know how to start a washer and dryer, I know how to do the dishes. What else would I need? Now, have fun on your vacation, you better send me pics, and have fun! I gotta get going now though cause I'm already late.”
Scarlett still looked a bit sick as she bid farewell to her boss, but at least she could finally take a break, which she was too shy to admit she actually needed.
[Name] walked through the front door of the club, she didn’t pick favorites is what she told others, but the location here in LA and the one in Paris were definitely her favorites of the six she owned. The music was beaming, lights flashing and the scent of alcohol and sweat hung in the air. Security guards nodded at her in a silent greeting as she made her way to her office, one of them trailing her for her own protection. Tonight was going to be a good night, she thought as she poured herself a drink, quickly drowning it before taking a glance at the paperwork that had been assembled on her desk during the last few days. She’d take it home when she left tonight. The security guard opened the door again and waited for her to lock it, after she gave him the signal he didn’t have to trail her tonight.
She walked past the VIP area, making some small conversations with people she’d seen before. There were new faces too, there always were. All different types of ‘em too. It was a safe space as well as a club. She stopped at Toji’s table, how he and her met was a long story. Everyone at [Name] her boarding school knew of the Zen’in family and their generations at the school, same as the Gojo family, as well as her own. She’d seen him here at the club one day a few years ago, standing at the bar and damn he looked familiar she had thought. It soon clicked in her head and she walked up to him.
“Zen’in?” she had called as she stood behind him.
“Fushiguro now actually, took my wife's last name.” he said as he turned around, looking at the young woman in front of him. “Wait,” he had studied her face, until his eyes landed on the obvious giveaway of her family “[last name]?”. She nodded and smiled in response to his guess. “Never thought I’d see one of you all the way out here.”
“Well, someone has to be the millionaire of the family.” Toji’s eyes widened as he asked for more details, giving an impressed grin when he found out she was the owner.
“You got it good, girl. I wouldn’t have suspected you to be the type.”
“Hello again, it’s been a while.” She sat down on the couch next to him, observing the people as they danced to the music. There were some empty glasses in front of him but Toji seemed rather sober.
“[Last name], you look good tonight.” he gave her a grin, it had been a few years since his wife died, the first few years were a mess for him, he was in here every night drinking away his grief. But over the years he had come to accept her passing and actually started taking care of his son again. Now he came every weekend, mostly just Saturdays since that's when his son was at his friends’ or godfathers house. “Thank you,” she smiled at him, smoothing out the satin dress on her body. “How’s Megs?” She hadn’t seen either of them ‘cause they’d been residing in Japan for a while. Toji smiled at the mention of his son. It took him too long to realize that the little boy was his light in life, his wife lived on in him and oh he was amazing.
“He’s fine, great actually. He graduated from Jujutsu High a few weeks ago…” as Toji said that an old but familliar scent hit [name] her nostrils and she immediately turned her head around but didn’t find what she smelled. “It was amazing to see him receive his diploma. To be really honest, a few years ago I thought I’d never be back at that place again after I graduated years and years ago myself.”
“He’s so grown up already, I can remember when you told me he just started.” [Name] turned her head back towards her friend with a smile that didn’t quite meet her eyes. “And to be fair, I don’t think I’ll ever return to Jujutsu High again, no matter the reason.” there was a reason- there were simply too many memories there that she had tried her hardest to forget. Those memories being the ones she just smelled.
The mixed scent of sweet floral yet strong cologne and a really overwhelming smell of pine and vanilla still hung faintly in the air.
It can’t be, she thought. Her mind was just playing tricks on her because Toji had her remember things she didn’t want to. There’s no way.
Yet when she bid farewell to Toji and walked towards the bar she smelled it again. The bartenders didn’t look up when she walked behind the bar and poured herself a drink, yet she overheard their conversations.
“That man's eyes… wow! I’ve never seen anyone with eyes that bright!”
It’s not him. They’re not here.
“But the other one! His shoulders… my god.”
[Name] walked away before she’d drive herself insane over this. There was no way they were here. If they were, she would’ve spotted them already. Even though a decade can change a lot about a person; Gojo’s bright blue eyes and bright hair and Geto’s long dark hair and muscled figure always stood out, especially when together.
She wasn’t even sure if they’d regcronise her. She cut her hair, the final stages of puberty hit her later so she got some more curves and flesh, her style had changed and so had her personality. Though deep down she knew that if she’d ever see those two boys again, she’d turn back into her old bubbly self if it took too long. She always had a soft spot for them, no matter what happened or how much she denied it, they would always be a part of her past. Toji had also once told her she walked around like she owned the place, to which she replied that she did. He’d given her credit for the remark and she’d told him to put things on her tab that night.
With a racing heart she went back to observing the crowds. Walking alongside tables, along the dancefloor, everywhere.
Theres no way these two fucks still wear the same cologne after years.
She sipped her drink, it burned in her throat, but it wasn't unpleasant. She walked towards the staircase for staff and security. All the way up it overlooked the layout of the building and she could spot things easier.
I’m going to drive myself insane by looking for people that aren’t-
Her train of thoughts stopped when she saw a mob of bright white hair, she stared at it for ten seconds before looking at the person's face and she felt her head get light, looking besides him she saw a familiar black haired man.
Fuck.
She turned around, not being able to look anymore. The top of the stairs wasn't lit, so the chance they would’ve seen her was slim, very slim. [Name] sunk to the ground and drowned her drink in one go, this time the burn lasted longer and she closed her eyes. A few years ago she had promised herself that if she’d ever find them in her club- her property, she’d get them kicked out. Yet now that she found them, that seemed impossible. She couldn’t just walk up to them and tell them to get out of here.
Why not?
Why not? There was no reason as to why not. As she said, it was her property, she could do whatever she wanted and before she realized it herself she was already making her way to the table they were sitting at.
The music seemed to dim, the world became clearer yet also blurrier as she stood in front of them.
“Get the fuck out of my place.” she said, there was anger and aggression in her voice as she looked at them. “Now.”

a/n i decided to put Ortho in the first year part which is probably going to be posted tomorrow tbh
tw cursing and reader is horny for a lot of them
want more? here is part one: bragging rights
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trey + Ace/Deuce <3
⋆ Ace can understand why you’d brag about Trey. I mean it’s Trey Clover. Literally the most husband material of the husbands. He’s good looking, can bake, smells nice, cleans well, can bake, is good with kids (at least what Ace has heard), is perfect at dealing with Riddle. Did he mention that Trey can bake? Anyways, Ace actually doesn’t have anything bad to say. Sure you’re annoying and Ace can’t seem to look Trey in the eyes after all the filth that comes out of your mouth. He can’t delete the memory of you ogling Trey while he was bending down to get something out of the oven and drooling, ‘man, what I would do to get a bite out of that ass’. He legit considered drowning his eardrums in bleach, yuck.
⋆ Same as Ace, but he gets so flustered everytime you say anything remotely dirty. But anyways, Deuce actually really loves the way you talk so highly and lovingly of Trey. Like yeah, it’s a little much and kinda makes Deuce feel like a third wheel despite the fact Trey is very much not present, but Deuce can’t help but want someone that would talk about him so highly as well. Also, he knows that Trey would take wonderful care of you and that’s all he could ask for.
⋆ Trey is both shocked and happy. He’s pretty much used to people overlooking him because let's be honest, out of everyone in the dorm (hell probably the school), he’s the most normal one out there. But knowing that you’re willing to talk anyone’s ears off just about him makes him chuckle. You sure are something else, huh? Well, Trey doesn’t mind, actually he’ll probably show up at Ramshackle with your favorite sweet and show you what these hands can do~
He’s going to give you a massage, nasties
Ruggie + Jack <3
⋆ A respecter of his elders, Jack feels a sense of pride when you talk so highly of Ruggie. Though at first, he mistakes it as admiration and respect just like Jack feels for Ruggie, but something about the way your eyes light up and cheeks brighten quickly gives him another impression. Listen, Jack adores you and wants what's best for, however, that doesn’t mean Jacks wants to listen to your hour long rants about Ruggie. Again, Jack’s a chill guy, so he’ll water his plants and do other chores while you trail after him like a little duckling. It’s cute really
⋆Ruggle like ‘are they talking about me? You’re joking, nu-uh….oh shit!’ He gets so smug about it. His tail literally wags back and forth so fast he considers taping it to his side. Ruggie definitely wasn’t expecting it, because one, you hang out with a ton of cool people, and two, Ruggie is constantly messing with you (affectionately ofc). He definitely sees your relationship in a new light. Maybe he wouldn’t mind sharing some food sometime, just a thought.
Jade + Grim <3
⋆ Grim is so fuckin scared. He doesn’t know if it’s for you, or for him, all he knows is that he’s running for the hills anytime he sees that tall ass fucker. Like literally, you just had to choose the scariest person ever to simp for huh? You know that tiktok sound where it’s all like “Shut the fuck up! I’m so fuckin scared rn!”, yeah that’s Grim. Always on the verge of shitting himself or fighting Jade. Grim has not known peace.
⋆Jade is pleasantly surprised. Originally, he’s all like ‘I can totally get something out of this’ but eventually you wormed your way into his heart. Does he protest? No, because you’re genuinely the most interesting creature he’s ever met. Jade considers you one the most precious pearls in the world. So knowing you consider him a worth enough person to brag about makes him beyond happy. However, don’t expect that this relieves you of his teasing, because he finds this a perfect opportunity to amp it up.
Jamil + Grim <3
⋆ There’s two things that run through Grim mind when you ‘shockingly’ confess that you have the hots for Jamil. One, didn’t he literally kidnap us?! And two, hell yeah! Food! Grim walks a thin line between wanting to be mad at Jamil for what he did during winter break and falling in love with him instead, because damn, when Grim heard the saying ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ he didn’t realize how true it was until Jamil became a recurring face in his life.
⋆ Jamil is both shocked and smug. Like, he expected you to fall for Kalim, because he has money and is emotionally available. But! The fact that you didn’t fall for Kalim makes him 100x more smug! Like for once, Jamil beats Kalim and doesn’t have to a) feel burdened by it or 2) feel guilty. So it's a win-win situation! Jamil is calculating and observant, so he decided to go a safe route and cook you all your favorite food as a confession. And damn, he did not expect you to cry and wipe your boogers all over your sleeve because you were so happy. Maybe he can get used to it.
Rook + Epel <3
⋆ You really know how to choose ‘em huh? Epel is literally at his wit's end. All you talk about is Rook and all Rook talks about is you. And both you have a very weird and honestly, freaky, way of saying how much you love each other. Out of the two, Epel would much rather listen to Rook, because at least Epel doesn’t understand a word that comes out of his baguette loving mouth. But you? Epel swears that once he gets home he’s going to get his meemaw to wash out all the filthy things you said about Rook and what you wanted him to do to you. He realizes he’d much rather listen to Vil nag him. Just give the poor boy a break!
⋆ Okay okay okay, he’s known since the beginning. He knows it all! It’s so fuckin creepy, but damn does that make things ten times easier. Rook is instantly sweeping you off your feet and into bed to make all the things you said come true. He’s a gentleman, what can he say? Rook loves that you like to brag about him, it’s just so beautiful knowing that you both want each other. He can just explode at the thought.
And he does…please interpret that however you like…
Lilia + Sebek <3
⋆ YOU TRULY ARE STUBBORN HUMAN!??!?!? Sebek is so fucking stingy about it. Like damn, okay you damn overgrown cucumber! Be stingy! Like that’s not going to stop you from getting laid. Does Sebek care though? No! Because he’s mean! Or more like, he doesn’t understand. But that's beside the point! Sebek will not let you get close to Lilia, not in his presence! What if you want to consume his mind and eat his brains?! Sebek can’t even imagine! Will fight you anytime and anywhere! Name the place, and he swears your ass is grass!
⋆ Okay, but alternatively, Sebek is a lot like how he was with Malleus and is all like ‘Yeah! Master Lilia is truly amazing! Human, you might actually be smart!’ and you’re just there with the widest grin because Sebek is your way to getting what you want(that being getting your guts rearranged). And everytime you come to him with the weirdest questions, Sebek merely bats his eyes and answers it without a second thought. Like ‘Of course, it’s big! It’s huge actually! Ginormous!...Eh, Human!? Why do you look ill?...Human, I haven't the slightest idea of what you could be referring to, but I was talking about his generosity. What else could there be that’s as big as his heart and wisdom?...tch, you better not get My Great Lord ill!”
⋆ Oh! How scandalous! You’re making him blush! Don’t you know it’s rude to make an old man’s heart want to burst? Literally cackles and gives you a big ass kiss. The things you do to this old man, like damn, he feels young again. Lilia is actually so funny about it because he wants to see you duel it out with Sebek for his hand, how lovely would that be? But also wants to whisk you away so you both can ‘game’ instead. Ugh, so many choices. Maybe he’ll let you both fight, so he can kiss your boo-boo’s away. How romantic!
Sebek do not question why I'm wobbling out of lilia’s room. Memories were made last night!

Everything Has Changed | Kratos x reader
A/N: I was listening to music and Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift came on and it made me think of how one look at Kratos and I was in love lmao. I think Kratos deserves a whirlwind, sudden teenage dream type romance. Pure fluff!
Fem reader, no use of pronouns, but feminine descriptions used.
CW: Adult language, mention of death, mention of mysophobia.
Word Count: 4,535
---
You lived alone on a small island in Svartalfheim, near Dragon’s Beach. Since the towns nearby were built with dwarves in mind, you didn’t exactly find it the most comfortable to live in Nidavellir. So, you built your own little slice of paradise. You had a quaint home, not unlike those housed by dwarves. You also had your own garden to grow food, and a few pets to keep you company. You found your way into the tight-knit community created by, and for, dwarves after being taken in by the most unlikely candidate in all of Svartalfheim, Sindri.
Left an orphan after your parents were murdered under Odin’s orders, you were stuck wandering the town of Nidavellir at the age of 6. Your parents were adventurers; brave and curious truth-seekers. But when their curiosity brought them to Svartalfheim, dangerously close to what you can only assume was something very sacred to Odin, they were killed. Or, that’s what you think anyway. Odin and the aesir claim there was an “accident” when they were exploring. You didn’t know any better at the time, but Sindri did. Somehow he had convinced Odin not to take you away with him, gods know what he would have done to you if he hadn’t been successful.
Since then, you’ve looked to Sindri, and the entire community of Nidavellir, as family. It had been almost two decades since then, and now you work hard helping out the dwarves any way you can. You perform chores that are made easy due to your height advantage over them, but most importantly you make yourself available to listen to the community, sort of like a self-appointed therapist. That’s where you were at this very moment, on a hill a few minutes walk outside of town, you call your “office”. You saw a few people each day, but today was slower than usual. On days like this you liked to practice magic and tend to your garden. You took an interest in nature, so Sindri taught you how to manipulate some natural elements, get food to grow quicker, some healing magic, stuff like that. You were planting some seeds for the upcoming harvest season. Your hands, covered in soft, cold dirt, carefully poked holes into the tender earth. You dropped a few seeds in each hole before gently covering them back up.
The snap of a twig to your left tore your focus away from your current task. You turned your head to meet the sound and couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face. You saw Sindri stepping out from behind a tree, you hadn’t seen him in a few months, the both of you had been consumed in work as of late.
“Sindri!” you called to the dwarf as you dusted the dirt off your hands and stood up.
“Hey, it’s been a while. I-”
You cut off Sindri’s words by running over to him and embracing him in a bone-crunching hug. You were careful to keep your dirty hands away from him, but he hated being touched nonetheless. This was the longest you’ve ever gone without seeing each other, so he was just going to have to deal with your close proximity. You could feel his body tense up around your arms, signaling he had enough.
“I’m sorry, I know you hate it, but I haven’t seen you in forever!!” You flashed him a sad smile, pleading him not to be upset with you.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll just… take a bath in bleach.” He was standing so none of his limbs were touching each other, like an awkward sparring dummy.
“Don’t be so dramatic.” You teased him as you knelt down to rinse your hands in a bucket of water nearby.
“We breathed the same air for nearly 20 years, a hug is nothing.” you attempted to reason with his brain. You stood up once again and really took in the sight of Sindri standing in front of you. Despite his mysophobia that refused to waver, you really missed him.
“So, what are you doing here? Just dropping by?”
“No, I… I actually need your help with something.” Sindri’s tone had shifted from annoyed to more serious. “Anything for you, Sin’.” you smiled at him, trying to keep the conversation light. You couldn’t imagine he would have anything horrific to ask of you. You turned to a small shelf and grabbed a clean rag and a bottle of cleaner and handed it to Sindri.
“Here. I can’t take you seriously with you standing like that, man.” You chuckled. He mumbled out a ‘thanks’ and swiftly began to clean himself.
While Sindri was getting himself into a state of cleanliness that he deemed suitable, he told you of the favor he needed. He explained that the World Tree was dangerously close to becoming overgrown, and Ratatoskr had his hands busy trying to parent the lindwyrms, who were not ready to care for the world tree on their own quite yet.
“Ahh, so now my “dirty hobby” has come to be useful!” You crossed your arms smugly as Sindri rolled his eyes with a scoff.
“If that’s how you want to look at it…” he murmured. “Just, come to my house when you’re ready. I have to take a bath now.”
Before you could even agree, Sindri was gone. You chuckled to yourself and began to clean up and get ready to be away for awhile. You said a spell over your newly planted seeds to keep them healthy and watered for the time being. Next you collected some clothes and supplies into a small satchel and picked up your sword. Its hilt was crafted from dwarven steel and the blade was made out of wood from a poison tree and wrapped in thorny vines. You slid it into its sheath on your back and headed to the nearest mystic gateway.

Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir had just returned from freeing the Hafgufa from Vanaheim. There was a trail of sand following behind them.
“I’m really glad we got to set the Hafgufas free, but I don’t think I wanna go to any realms with sand for a while…” Atreus stated as he brushed some sand from his hair
“Aye, I’ve got sand in me neck stump!” Mimir shared Atreus’ disdain for feeling sand in every crevice imaginable. The sound of the front doors opening pulled the men’s attention from their current discomfort.
You took a few steps through the front door before you stopped in your tracks as you locked eyes with perhaps the most invigorating man you’ve ever seen. You hadn’t expected to see anyone else at the house, let alone someone so tantalizing. It felt as if all the breath was stolen from your lungs as you looked deep into his amber eyes. The scowl the man had on his face only a second before had noticeably softened now. It was as if the two of you were the only people in all the nine realms at that moment. After what felt like years of staring into this man’s soul through his eyes, it was cut short as sound filled the air.
“Y/n! About time I saw you again.” Brok greeted you as he walked out from behind the counter of the workshop. You held your gaze with the giant man for just one more second before reluctantly tearing your eyes away to greet Brok.
This was no big deal, you just had to act like you hadn’t just seen the most attractive and magnetizing person in your entire life… If you didn’t believe in love at first sight before, you sure as Hel believed in it now.
“It’s really great to see you, Brok.” You smiled at the blue dwarf and bent down to engulf him in a hug. You could only hope that he couldn’t feel your heart pounding in your chest.
Although your back was turned, you could feel the man's eyes on your body. You stood up straight and took a deep breath, readying yourself to speak to the handsome stranger. You turned towards him and held out your hand to greet him as you found yourself drawn to his eyes once again.
“Hi, I’m (y/n).” You introduced yourself. The man glanced down at your hand and then back at you. He reached his hand out to grasp yours in a surprisingly gentle handshake.
“Kratos.” is all he said. The sound of his voice was better than anything you imagined. You could have melted into a puddle of goo at that very moment.
“Kratos.” You smiled as you repeated his name. “It’s very nice to meet you.” You said, letting go of his hand, missing the warmth of his body heat immediately. You looked to your right to see a teenage boy. You had almost missed him in all the feelings and thoughts swirling around in your head.
Kratos placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, “This is my son, Atreus.”
You reached your hand out to greet Atreus as well, “It’s very nice to meet you too!” you smiled at the boy. He returned your smile and shook your hand, with much more grip and enthusiasm than his father.
“Good to meet you as well! So, how do you know Sindri?” Atreus asked, assuming only people close to the dwarf would be allowed access into his home. You chuckled slightly, thinking he was joking around. When he glanced around awkwardly you realized how serious he was.
“Oh…” you started, confusion showing on your face, but it soon turned to agitation. “Oh my gods.” You quickly turned your head to Brok. “He… He doesn’t talk about me?” You practically yelled in astonishment.
“Hey, don’t take it out on me… But, uh, let me take a look at yer sword.” Brok knew just how to evade your annoyance. You took out your sword and set it down on the workshop table with a scoff as you repeated your words with disbelief, “He doesn’t talk about me…”
Kratos and Atreus silently exchanged glances to each other as they were left guessing how you and Sindri were acquainted. One situation in particular was swirling around Kratos’ mind, that you were romantically involved with the dwarf. Disappointment had crept up onto him as he began to entertain this thought.
“Uhm… Are you and Sindri, like… dating?” Atreus awkwardly asked you, staring at his own feet to avoid your gaze.
“No! Oh, no, not at all! He raised me!” You had been so lost in your annoyance that you never answered the boy's question.
Kratos felt relief wash over him. He wasn’t sure why he was relieved, or why he cared if you had been something more than a friend or family member to Sindri. He had just met you, he should not be having these types of thoughts or feelings about anyone, let alone a stranger.
“Ohhh!” Atreus chuckled a little, finally looking up at you again. “Wait- Sindri had a kid?” He glanced at his father and then back to you. “Are you-”
You cut Atreus off before things could get awkward again, “No, I’m like an adopted sibling he never wanted.” you cleared the air.
Seemingly right on cue, Sindri entered the house.
“Oh! I didn’t realize you three would be back already...” Sindri shifted his weight from side to side, seemingly unprepared to introduce you to his guests. But his awkward demeanor soon switched to panic as he noticed the pool of sand in his house.
“Really?!” Sindri sighed loudly as he fetched a broom from a nearby closet. “You two, get outside!” He commanded Kratos and Atreus, pushing the broom at their heels to rush them out of his previously pristine house.
Once the duo had been escorted outside, Sindri shot them a warning, “And do NOT come back in until you are sand-free!”
Sindri propped the front doors open and began to sweep the sand out of the house. You were left watching the entire ordeal with a slightly amused look on your face. You figured you could give Sindri shit later for not telling his friends about you, he had enough on his plate for the time being. For now, your gaze drifted back towards Kratos.
“Uhm, I’m gonna go take a bath.” Atreus notified his father before turning his back to walk through a small wooden gate on the side of the house to clean up.
Kratos grumbled slightly and unhooked Mimir from his belt, setting him down on the bottom step of the stairs leading into the house. He then proceeded to take off each piece of his armor and shake the sand out from them. You took your time to look over his upper body. Your eyes trailed the bright red tattoo, from the sharp edge on his face to the swirl on his bicep, and the curve on his abdomen. You couldn’t help admiring his muscular physique and taking note of the large scar on his stomach, and a smaller one over his eye.
“Alright, quit yer drooling.” Brok’s voice snapped you back into reality. He set down your sword on the counter in between the two of you.
You whipped your head towards the dwarf, a soft pink blush falling over your cheeks.
“Fuck off, I was not drooling…” You defended yourself, snatching your sword back. You took a moment to look over Brok’s upgrades before returning it to its sheath.
“Whatever you say, princess.” Brok teased you further.
You rolled your eyes and started to walk down the steps outside. You were careful not to make any more of a mess for Sindri, but not careful enough to notice a severed head on the very last step. In your effort to avoid stepping on the head, you tripped over your own two feet. Instead of feeling the harsh impact of the ground, you felt a warm hand on your upper arm. You looked up to see Kratos holding onto you. His piercing brown eyes were staring right into your soul, again. You felt your heart rate pick up, you opened your mouth to speak but no words came out. His grip loosened on you and he returned his hand to his side.
“You should be more careful.” Kratos advised you.
“Yeah- uhm, I’m sorry about that.” You turned to the severed head on the steps, “I’m really sorry, I didn’t see you there.”
“Ah, don’t worry about it. It’s the big oaf’s fault for settin’ me down there.” The head was surprisingly forgiving of your clumsiness. A tinge of pink settled across your cheeks as you looked back to Kratos. The man just grunted in response to the head.
“I’m Mimir, it’s nice to meet you.” The head introduced himself at last. You sat down on the steps next to Mimir.
“Right back at’cha. I’m sorry I didn’t introduce myself earlier.” You felt guilt for over-looking him earlier. Although, you did overlook just about everyone except for Kratos…
“Don’t even mention it. How could ya have seen me?” Mimir continued to joke at the expense of Kratos. A smile spread across your face. Before you could continue your conversation, a voice rang out.
“Master (y/n)!” A familiar voice entered your eardrums, Ratatoskr. A small sigh escaped your lips as you stood up.
“Duty calls.” You announced. “I’ll see you two around.” You gave a smile to Mimir and a wave to Kratos before walking over to speak with the abnormally large squirrel. It was time to find out what exactly you’ll be helping him with.
Kratos’ gaze followed you as you walked away from him. His eyes raked over your figure, memorizing the way you walked and how your hips moved with each step.
“Father?” Atreus’ voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Hm?” Kratos turned his attention to his son and continued to shake the last of the sand out of his waist armor.
“I was just saying that the bath is ready for you, and I can clean up out here.” Atreus shifted his gaze between Mimir and his father. Kratos simply nodded his head, dropping the armor he was holding and headed to get himself cleaned up.
Atreus began to gather the armor from the ground. “Uhh, do you think he’s acting a little… weird today?”
“I think he might be a wee bit tired from all the traveling, lad. Speaking of, would you mind helping me clean up a bit?”
“Sure, no problem Mimir.” Atreus smiled and got to work.
---
You spent the next few hours getting a tour of the World Tree and extremely detailed instructions from Ratatoskr on how to care for it. He explained how to prune the branches, what limbs held which realms, what you should never touch, the list went on and on. Your head was so filled with new information it felt like your brain was going to explode. You walked into the house just as it was getting dark outside after finally being relieved for the evening. Even though the realm between realms doesn’t have a sun and a moon, it was still nice to have it simulate days and nights, so as to not lose track of time. The scent of meat and spices filled your nostrils, Brok was in the kitchen stirring a large pot, of what you assume was dinner.
“That smells amazing.” You said, walking towards Brok. You stopped in front of the giant pot and picked up a spoon to give the stew a taste test. “Tastes amazing too.”
“It ain’t ready yet.” Brok snatched the spoon out of your hand. You put your hands up in defense.
“Sorry, I guess I’ll just wait then… and never compliment you again.” you turned your back and headed to where you used to sleep growing up.
“Wait, that’s-” Before Brok could finish his warning, you opened the door to be greeted by Kratos sitting on the side of a makeshift bed. The only item of clothing he had on was dark brown pants. He almost looked like a different person without all his armor on. There was even more scarring hiding under his wrist armor, it looked like chains had been branded onto his forearms.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were staying in here.” You apologized for intruding.
Kratos looked up to meet your gaze, “It is fine.”
You gave him a small smile and looked around the room, “This place hasn’t changed much. I used to stay in this room when I was younger.” You leaned against the wall as a flood of memories entered your mind.
“You can have the room if you wish.” Kratos said as he stood up with a slight grunt.
“No, I couldn’t kick you out of your room. You probably need it more than me. Plus, the chair out there is pretty comfy.” You assured him.
“Mh… Let me know if you change your mind.” He began to wrap some red cloth around his forearms.
“So, how did you come to have a talking severed head as your companion?” You questioned him.
“I cut it off.” Kratos replied to you plainly.
“Huh?” You had confusion written all over your face.
“He was trapped. Imprisoned in a tree and tortured everyday. He asked me to cut off his head to free him. So I did.” Kratos further explained.
“Oh, that’s actually really kind of you.” You said, reflecting on the odd, but thoughtful, request.
Kratos grunted in response.
Just as you were about to ask him more about himself, you heard Brok announce that dinner was ready. You gave Kratos one more look over. His lack of clothing was incredibly inviting, but you were hungry and tired.
“I’ll see you out there.” You excused yourself and walked out to the table to sit down and get some food.
---
Dinner was nice and casual, there was no residual awkwardness from the days prior events. You got to know more about Atreus, that boy really likes to talk. He was going on about the different types of monsters he’s fought with his dad. He seemed the most proud of defeating a huge electric dragon a few years ago. The most surprising detail of the story was that Sindri utilized one of the dragon’s teeth to enhance Atreus’ bow. Swapping stories around the dinner table made the time go by far too fast for your liking. It felt like the six of you had been friends for a lifetime. When the conversation had died down, you stood up and collected the empty plates. You made your way to the kitchen to wash up while Kratos and Atreus went into their respective rooms.
“I can get that, you should get some rest.” Sindri’s voice came from behind you. You turned your head to look at him.
“No, I really don’t mind!” You insisted, turning on the water.
“Okay… Well, to be honest I don’t trust anyone else washing the dishes but me.” Sindri admitted.
“Mmmh, the truth comes out.” You chuckled and stepped away from the sink. “Let me know if there’s anything I can do.”
“You just rest. You’ve done a lot for me today… Thank you.” Sindri gave you a small smile and got started on cleaning up.
You had an idea brewing in your mind. You couldn’t get your mind off of Kratos. You just wanted to know more about him, he was all you could think of. You found a spare piece of paper, scribbled down a note, slipped it under Kratos’ door and made yourself scarce.
“Brother, someone’s slipped a note under your door.” Mimir alerted Kratos, who was laying down on his makeshift bed. He pulled the weight of himself up with a slight grunt and walked over to where the note was. He bent down and picked it up, unfolding it carefully.
Meet me at the side of the house.
Kratos furrowed his brows and let out a confused grumble. He set the note down on a crate near his bed and stepped out of his room.
“Aye, what did it say??” Mimir questioned, but the only response he got was the sound of the door closing and heavy footsteps leading further and further away.
You were sitting on a barrel, leaning your back against the side of the house and nervously tapping your fingertips on your thigh. You heard the front door open and close, causing you to spring to your feet and run a hand through your hair to tame any fly-aways. You watched as Kratos entered through the side gate, latching it behind him. Your heartbeat started to increase with each step he took toward you. He stopped a few feet away from you.
“You wanted to see me?” Kratos spoke with a hint of confusion laced in his words.
“Yeah, I did…” You took a step toward him, taking in a deep breath before looking up into his eyes. “I’ve really enjoyed talking to you, and I just wanna know you better.” You confessed your infatuation with the man.
“What would you wish to know?” Kratos asked you.
“Everything?” You responded, taking another step closer to him, leaving only a few inches of space in between you.
“Mh… That may take awhile.” Kratos looked down at you, his chest steadily rising and falling with each breath he took. It was beyond your grasp how he could remain so calm and stoic, but it made you want him more than ever.
“I have time.” You told him with a small smile. You lifted your hand from your side and carefully placed it on Kratos’ cheek, right where his beard began to sprout. You looked in his eyes for any signs of hesitation, but you found none. You leaned up on your tippy toes and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
You leaned back just a few centimeters from him and opened your eyes. He hadn’t moved a muscle, it was like you had kissed a statue. Kratos had a look of surprise and confusion sprawled across his face. His eyes were raking over your facial features, searching for any hint of disgust. He was waiting for you to shove him away, to start laughing at him. He was expecting to hear you question who would ever want to touch a monster like him. But you were just staring right back at him, looking increasingly worried by the second.
“Are you okay?” You spoke, barely above a whisper. Had you broken him? Did he not like you? Was he trying to find a way to let you down without hurting your feelings? Your embarrassment started to manifest itself as redness across your cheeks, darkening with each moment of silence that passed.
Kratos nodded ever so slightly and one of his hands ghosted just above your hip, barely making contact with your body.
You placed your free hand on top of his, encouraging him to make full contact with you. You placed both of your hands on either side of his face and kissed him again. Only this time, you weren’t as gentle. You started with a firm kiss and then began to move your lips against his, trying to encourage him to kiss you back. You felt his hand on your hip pull you closer to his body and then you finally felt his lips start to move against yours. He dipped his head down so you didn’t have to strain to reach his lips. You couldn’t hold back a faint moan erupting from your throat as you wrapped your arms around his neck, trying to get even closer to Kratos. He now placed both his hands on your hips, tilting his head slightly to the side to deepen the kiss. After a few more moments, you weren’t sure if it was a lack of oxygen, or if you were getting drunk off of the feeling of Kratos on you, but you were getting dizzy. You stopped kissing him and placed a hand on his chest to steady yourself and took a moment to catch your breath. Kratos watched you cautiously, he gently brushed a strand of hair out of your face with the back of his hand. Your face was flushed pink and your lips were wet with the mix of both of your saliva. He hadn’t had any feelings like this in a long, long time.
“Uhm…” You looked up at Kratos, pleasantly surprised to see he was watching you carefully, “Would you wanna get a drink with me sometime?”
For the first time you saw the man’s cheeks firm up into a slight smile and heard the sweet sound of a chuckle escape his lips.
“Why don’t we go now?” He proposed.
You nodded in response, “Yeah, that sounds great.” You smiled back at him, not caring if you looked like a complete idiot.
“Let us go then.” He declared, walking towards the gate and holding it open for you.
“Okay, I know just the place.” You walked through the small wooden gate and excitedly waited for Kratos to catch up to you at the mystic gateway.

Baptism enslaved me
The past week had been a blur. You spent seven days running around in the heat, trying to make an inhospitable boy scout camp into something inspired. Breaking it in was your duty as your group was the first of the season. The trappings of a long, snowy winter and a violently wet spring lingered around the facilities. Your arms ached from clearing out fallen branches and musty piles of decayed leaves. Your clothes were constantly mottled with cobwebs and dust. Every night when you collapsed in your twin-sized cot you debated on running through the woods towards the highway seeking salvation in the form of a kind motorist.
That’s why you hoped you would spend your last child free morning in the comfort of your cabin. And yet there you sat, listening to the camp director droned on. You melted in the midday sun with your back against a tree, a pitiful attempt to shelter yourself under its leaves.
“I’m gonna die out here,” Shiraishi, your partner for the summer, moaned.
He too was slumped by the tree, his head hanging down limply. You flicked him in the shoulder with your thumb and forefinger.
“You can’t die. Mr. Tsurumi still hasn’t told us what group we have,” you whispered.
“I think you can handle them on your own.”
Sugimoto turned his attention towards the two of you. His cheeks flushed from sitting in the sun. He didn’t seem to mind bathing in its rays.
“Can you at least pretend to pay attention like me?”
His words barely registered. You couldn’t stop staring at his face. A dusting of tan freckles spread across the bridge of his nose, elevating his boyish looks. He was the only one who got cuter after a week of hard labor.
“Sure,” you said, mind still occupied with the slope of his nose.
“Unfortunately our lead counselor will not be joining us for the first couple days of camp.” The director wiped sweat away from his brow. “I’m sure all of you have heard about Yūsaku’s unfortunate… situation.”
“We heard alright,” Usami snickered.
Yūsaku had forgotten to reapply sunscreen and got scorched from head-to-toe. The golden boy’s pained groans persisted through the night as everyone attempted to sleep. Yellow blisters ballooned on his skin, marring his pristine complexion. You tried your best not to think about his affliction.
“But I know we will persevere in his absence. I have high hopes for this summer. Let’s make it a good one.” He smiled warmly. “The campers will be arriving in two hours. Your coordinators, Mr. Koito and Mr. Tsukishima, will have your rosters and itineraries for the week.”
Tsurumi said his goodbyes and strided away to his quarters. You stood up slowly, stretching your arms above your head.
“I feel… like we’re missing people,” you said, twisting your waist. “Where’s your partner?”
Sugimoto looked around and shrugged. He was paired with Ogata, easily one of the most enigmatic people you knew.
“Well there’s Tanigaki,” Shiraishi yawned. “Inkarmat’s with him too.”
Tanigaki’s burly form crested the hill. He looked ashamed, like a puppy three seconds from getting kicked down the stairs. Inkarmat followed close behind with a cooler expression. She looked refreshed and practically glowed.
“Did we miss anything important?”
Sugimoto looked at him with big, sad, wet eyes and sniffled. “Camp got canceled. We’re getting sent home with no pay.”
“And it’s all your fault, like specifically yours,” you said with a glare.
Shiraishi mirrored your expression. “Mr. Tsurumi said your name.”
Tanigaki’s eyes briefly widened before adopting a more stern state. You knew he bought it for a millisecond.
“Am I in trouble for anything?” Inkarmat asked, laughing. She was unflappable.
“No. You’re not being held accountable,” you replied.
“Just in time for Women’s History Month,” Shiraishi added cooly.
It was June and the last time you checked Women’s History Month was in March. Inkarmat snickered and grabbed Vasily by the wrist, dragging him off towards the mess hall. The idea of going inside sounded practically orgasmic. There was zero chance you could comprehend what activities were planned for the day if sweat continued to drip down your spine all the way to the crack of your ass.
“Let’s get our shit and go, like, sit down somewhere,” you said, tone somewhat urgent.
Shiraishi nodded in agreement and offered to deal with the coordinators. He could tell you were in no position to talk to upper management. You decided to wait rather than go off on your own even though your impatience was on the verge of having a body count. Luckily neither Mr. Koito or Mr. Tsukishima seemed particularly interested in speaking to him, or any of the counselors for that matter. You were so relieved
There was a collective sigh of relief once you reached the shade. You scanned your roster, familiarizing yourself with the names listed.
“Archery on Wednesday?” Sugimoto said, voice slightly concerned. “That sounds cool, but should we really be giving kids arrows?”
“What?! We don’t have archery. We have knife throwing. Well that explains all the knives…”
“That’s not all we’re doing is it?” you asked.
“One day we’re dissecting owl pellets—Oh wait, there’s archery.”
“Do you guys have judo on Tuesday?” Sugimoto asked hopefully.
“Yeah,” Shiraishi affirmed. “And then we have Russian immersion right after.”
“Russian immersion?” you asked.
“You know, the language,” Shiraishi clarified albeit for no reason as both you and Sugimoto knew Russian was in fact a language.
“We’re doing that too,” Sugimoto said, yawning. “And wagashi making.”
Other activities listed were: friendship bracelet making and various types of yarn-based projects, mushroom hunting, canoeing, swimming, hiking and giant shogi.
Peace had fallen over the three of you. All you could hear was lilting bird calls and a burbling stream. Just as you had grown accustomed to the wondrous sounds of nature, you heard the crushing of twigs and dry leaves.
“It’s a bear,” Shiraishi whispered.
“There are no bears around here,” you said.
“Even if there were bears, Mr. Tsurumi has a shotgun in his cabin,” Sugimoto chirped.
Shiraishi sighed in exasperation. “Great because that’ll definitely save us right now from getting eaten alive.”
Despite there being a lack of bears in the area every hair on your body bristled. What if you all fell victim to a vicious wild boar attack? You weren’t even sure if wild boars inhabited the area either, but logic didn’t matter. All you knew was you didn’t want to die at camp. You didn’t want to have your flesh ripped from your body by an overgrown, ugly hog or any animal to be honest. You were too young; there was so much you wanted to do in life, so much you needed to accomplish.
“Oh. It’s just Ogata,” Shiraishi said.
Sugimoto’s co-counselor emerged from the redwoods, his expression blank and unreadable. He didn’t react to Shiraishi saying his name. It was if he intended on strolling past without saying a word. Usually you found this type of behavior tiresome and obnoxious, but he made it alluring and charming in an absurd sort of way.
“Where are you going?” Sugimoto asked.
“To camp.”
Sugimoto went to speak, but you butted in.
“You should come sit with us! We got our schedules and everything! ” you blurted out.
Your face was burning. You assumed you would’ve been smoother with your approach. Your fumble didn’t seem to phase Ogata as he took a seat right next to you, leaving zero space in between. Sugimoto was left alone on the other side of the picnic table.
“Did I miss anything important?” he asked.
Sugimoto wordlessly slid their group’s information across the table. Ogata looked it over.
“Mushroom hunting,” Ogata muttered as he ran his hand over his undercut, trying to smooth down a rogue lock of hair. “Hm. We’ll have to make sure the kids don’t pick anything toxic.”
Shiraishi groaned. “I figured everything out there would be safe to eat.”
“Wh—what do you mean out there? It’s the woods. Do you think Mr. Tsurumi combed through the entirety of it to make sure every little growth out there isn’t toxic?” you asked.
You found yourself compelled to say as many words as possible to make your presence known even if it was at the expense of your partner. It was shameful, but it was an unstoppable compulsion. Ogata’s presence implored you to take up more space. You laughed louder than you normally would. You smiled when your expression would otherwise be one of indifference. You said the things you would otherwise be too lazy to. Anything to get his attention even if just for a passing moment.
Ogata chuckled and your heart sang.
“I don’t know! Now we’re gonna have to watch them like hawks.”
“Our job is to supervise them,” Sugimoto chided.
“Excuse me for not wanting to do my job,” your partner grumbled.
You wondered how feasible it would be to get assigned a new co-counselor. Shiraishi wasn’t unlikable; you got along well enough. But you had a feeling most of the heavy lifting would fall on you.
Shiraishi rested his chin on his hand. “I just hope our kids aren’t assholes.”
“They will be. That’s just how kids are,” you laughed.
“Not if you scare them into submission.”
“Nope. Not happening. Not a chance,” Sugimoto said, demolishing Ogata’s suggestion.
“As long as we all set expectations early it shouldn’t be too bad. They just need to know what to expect from us. Kids are sedated by consistency.”
“Sedated?” Ogata asked with a smirk.
His voice, rich and gruff, reverberated throughout your body. It seeped through your skin, deep into your bones, saturating your thoughts with unseemly things. Your eyes went to his hands, something you always found attractive, only to be mildly disgusted by his dirty fingernails.
You tried to shake it off. “Domesticated. Placated. Basically they won’t act like monsters.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” he replied coolly.
“We should start getting ready,” Sugimoto said.
“I guess,” Shiraishi yawned.
You slapped him on the back. “You can’t be tired yet.”
Your partner whined that he was within his right to be tired which didn’t matter one way or another to you. It was going to be a long day; you could feel it. But not all hope was lost. If you were able to get within close range of Ogata it would be more than worth it.

The horror of my stupidity
The first day went perfectly. Your group consisted of six rambunctious, but generally well-behaved ten-year-olds. Shiraishi managed to overcome his lackadaisical leanings and took a hands-on role, but still deferred to you. You didn’t mind leading so long as he wrangled the more unruly kids. His commitment set you at ease.
The next morning was a quiet one. The kids were usually placid at first. Their cautiousness proved useful while foraging for mushrooms. They kept their hands to themselves and none of them ate anything deadly. The only unsettling thing was Tsurumi’s gleeful reaction whenever a destroying angel popped up.
“Mr. Tsurumi, would you poop your pants if you ate one?” a camper asked thoughtfully.
His dark eyes lit up and he gave the child a toothy grin.
“Why yes! Diarrhea and excruciating cramps are the first symptoms of alpha-Amanitin poisoning.”
Another camper pointed out what they thought was a wild carrot only to be told by an ecstatic Tsurumi that it was actually hemlock. The kids were riveted as he detailed the horrific symptoms of hemlock poisoning. Their horrified gasps when he told them there was no antidote seemed to thrill him.
Upon returning to camp it became clear that all was not well. Shiraishi was the first to notice the white sheet draped over a humanoid shape. It was partially obscured by one of the cabins. Tsurumi’s jovial facade gave way to flat expression and he sprinted off towards the disturbing scene.
“Hey,” you whispered, tapping Sugimoto on the shoulder. “Can you guys take the kids? I’m, uh, gonna be nosy.”
Your partner stood erect beside you. “Me too.”
“No,” you hissed. Shiraishi didn’t budge. “Someone has to be with our group.”
“Why not you then?”
“Be—because I was… I was… okay. Listen—”
“It’s fine. I got it,” Sugimoto sighed. “I wanna know all the details though. If you skimp, I’ll never forgive either of you.”
Ogata cleared his throat. He herded the campers away from whatever was shrouded under the white sheet. They were all clamoring around him, wondering when they’d get to eat fruit snacks. One was crawling up his leg and another was attempting to tie his shoes together. It made your stomach flutter seeing him be so patient with them.
Sugimoto took the hint and headed towards his partner and the gaggle of children, but he stopped midway to reiterate that he wanted all the details much to Ogata’s annoyance.
Once they were out of sight you and Shiraishi crept closer to and saw Nurse Kano kneeling beside what you assumed was a corpse. She lifted the sheet and studied what was under it, her expression a twisted combination of enthrallment and disgust. She stood up slowly.
“He’s dead.”
“We should call the paramedics then,” Tsukishima said.
Koito looked perplexed. “But he’s already dead. Shouldn’t we call the coroner?”
“You can’t just call up the coroner,” Tsukishima sighed.
Tsurumi squatted by the body and lifted the sheet. The director’s curiosity gave you a perfect view.
It was Tanigaki. His face was pale, eyes wide and cloudy. His lips and chin were crusted over with banana yellow bile. A desperate cry got caught in your throat. You wanted to look away and go back to your kids. But you were frozen, lost in Tanigaki’s lifeless gaze.
“Tanigaki,” you croaked.
Tsurumi’s eyes darted in your direction before returning to Tanigaki’s body.
“Otonoshin, go call 9-1-1,” he said calmly.
Koito rushed off to make the call. Tsurumi lowered the sheet. You couldn’t believe that you’d never see Tanigaki again, that he was gone for good. You hadn’t known him long, but you grew very fond of him.
“He can’t… This isn’t happening…”
You struggled to find the words. Seeing the outline of his face under the sheet radiated a finality that ripped your soul from your body.
“I wonder what happened,” he mumbled as you both walked away. “He looked…”
“I—I can’t think about that right now. I don’t wanna think about that right now.”
“Are you going to be okay?”
You wiped your eyes. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll be fine. Let’s hike to the lake or something. I don’t know.”
There was a sense of relief when you spotted the campers. You couldn’t help but smile when they broke out into a cacophony of questions regarding your whereabouts. In the midst of the excitement one camper launched a fruit snack at Shiraishi’s eye.
“You pull something like that again and I’m sending you to Mr. Tsukishima,” Ogata rumbled.
“Anyway,” Shiraishi said. “Who wants to hike up to the lake? Maybe race some canoes?”
The campers cheered and bolted in the direction of Tanigaki’s body. You and Sugimoto chased after them but they scattered like roaches. You could only stop so many of them.
“Hey! Were any of you dismissed?!”
Ogata’s voice cut through them and they immediately made their way back, heads hanging. You hadn’t expected him to be so firm with the campers. He was kind of withdrawn around the other counselors, or at the very least opaque. He mostly kept to himself though his brother was usually fluttering around him. You felt like you barely knew Ogata despite spending time with him, whereas Shiraishi and his oversharing made him feel more like an old friend or a weird cousin. As frustrating as it was, the mysterious haze that obscured Ogata drew you in. You wanted to know more about him, to pry open his soul and study its contents.
“You all owe your counselors an apology.” Ogata’s sharp gaze turned to the kid that hit Shiraishi with a fruit snack. “You especially.”
The kid looked terrified and quickly mumbled an apology. The rest of the campers groaned “we’re sorry” in unison. With the apologies out of the way the four of you prepared them for their hike.
“Look! More hemlock!” one the kids exclaimed. She knelt beside the plant, her face inches from its toxic, white flowers.
“Don’t get too close to it,” Sugimoto said, his voice like that of a concerned mother.
You could barely focus, but the camper was in your group so you felt compelled to try. “Or just don’t go around it at all. Leave it alone.”
“I’m just looking!”
“Looking that close is enough to kill,” Ogata said over his shoulder. “If you inhale the fumes, you're dead.”
This seemed to quell any remnants of curiosity. The campers spent the rest of the hike spotting mushrooms and imitating Tsurumi’s passionate infodumping. The word “creepy” was thrown around liberally. You chastised them for being disrespectful, but you agreed. His behavior made you uncomfortable, especially in the wake of Tanigaki’s mysterious death.
The lake was calm, the serenity of the scene much needed.
“Look!” a camper called out.
You thought it was cute that they were just as pleased to see the lake as you were. However something was riling them up as they made their way down to the shore. Some ran right back up the hill. Their faces paled, their eyes ripe with fear.
“Saichi, Saichi!!” one said, latching onto his arm. “Look!!”
Sugimoto crested the hill and looked down.
“Oh shit,” he said. “Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.”
“Stop swearing around the kids,” Ogata sighed as he joined his co-counselor to survey the situation. “Shit.”
“What is it?” you and Shiraishi shouted.
“Everyone away from the lake!” Ogata called out.
The kids bounded up the hill and cowered beside you, clinging to you for comfort.
“You guys, what is it?” you repeated, patting a camper on the head. “Is it something gross?”
“You could say that,” one piped up.
Sugimoto and Ogata turned to face you, but they seemed unable to speak. You freed yourself from the kids and walked towards them. Your absence caused them to swarm Shiraishi.
“It’s a body!” one shrieked.
“Um, it’s a lady!” one replied in a bratty tone.
Each step felt heavier than the last. Your body was screaming for you to turn around, but you couldn’t. You felt sick to your stomach. Kids made up stories all the time. They played pranks. Maybe they were lying.
“Is she going to be okay?”
“Maybe she’s just sleeping.”
“What are you? Dumb? She’s dead!”
Their voices were all melding into one. Everything began to blur. You knew what was coming. You knew what you were going to see. And yet you kept walking.
It was Inkarmat.
“Shi… Shiraishi. Take the ki…”
You forced yourself to look at the water, trying to ignore her putrefied remains. You leached away its calmness like a parasite. The tranquility you attempted to foster only did so much. You still felt like garbage, like you could vomit at any second.
“What is it?!” Shiraishi shouted back. “And,” he groaned, “I can’t take them all by myself!”
He was right. Being responsible for twelve disturbed children in the woods with terrible cell reception was asking for trouble, but you were too stunned to think up a plan of action.
“Ogata and I will be in the front. You and Shiraishi take the back. I’ll tell Tsurumi when we get back to camp.”
You nodded and started walking back to the group with Sugimoto. Tears welled up in your eyes as you made eye contact with a terrified camper.
“Hey! Ogata!”
He was still on the hill, staring down into the lake
 “We have to go!” Sugimoto bellowed.
Ogata didn’t budge, and Sugimoto did not have the time for such antics.
“I’ll wait for him,” you said, wiping away your tears. “I don’t want the kids to see me like this anyway.”
“It wouldn’t kill them to see that you’re human,” Sugimoto said, trapping you in his gaze.
You sniffled. “Gross.”
Sugimoto didn’t have time for whatever was going on with you either. You couldn’t blame him. The kids had to take precedence. All you needed was two minutes to collect yourself and you’d be a functioning camp counselor again.
Ogata was still frozen in time. Everything was so still you didn’t want to speak, let alone move. You felt like the sound of a twig snapping beneath your feet could send the world into chaos.
“Hyakunosuke.” Your voice was soft, any louder and it would waiver.
Your legs shook as you made your way up the hill next to him. You made a conscious effort to keep your eyes on Ogata, nowhere else. You let yourself get lost in him and studied his face. You were curious about his symmetrical scars and how he got them.
“You’re not traumatized by this?” Ogata finally asked.
You thought about Tanigaki.
“Doesn’t that bother you?” he said, pointing at Inkarmat’s bloated corpse.
“Why are you asking?”
“I dunno. Curious I guess.”
Your mind went blank, but you kept speaking. “I’m… upset obviously. But I don’t want the kids to know… so… I’m—I am gonna pretend none of this ever happened and get through the week in one piece hopefully.”
“I know you can do it.”
His support did little to soothe you.
“I saw Tanigaki earlier. I saw his face. It was… He had puked all over himself and it just was so sad, like so undignified.” Ogata snorted, but you were too frazzled to comprehend it at the time. “And now that’s how I’m going to fucking remember him?” You tried to take some measured breaths. “Like was he in pain? Was he scared? Did he call out to any of us? Did he die, like, knowing we cared about him? Or did he just fucking lie in the dirt for hours, wondering why none of us came to help him?”
“Where was he?”
“His cabin. It kinda looked like he was leaving, or maybe he was going back in. He was on his back though.”
You couldn’t say anything more. You needed as much distance from the memory as possible. If Ogata wanted to know more, he would have to badger Shiraishi.
“Let’s go,” he said suddenly. “They’ll probably have to ask us a bunch of questions.”
“They? Who—”
“Maybe Tsurumi. Or his two guard dogs. Or the police. If we’re lucky maybe it’ll be all of them.”
Your bones were turning into dust, your body buckling under its own weight. You saw far too much today and said too much about it.
“Are you going to be alright?” he asked.
“I can’t move.”
You knew that in theory you could manipulate your body in such a way that would create distance between you and what remained of Inkarmat. You were practically screaming at yourself to go back to the group and embody Shiraishi’s laid back nature. But your fear was intangible, unforeseen, and there was no escaping it.
“Get on my back.”
“Huh?”
“I’ll carry you,” he said, readying himself to give you a piggyback ride.
“Are you sure?”
“Probably.”
You felt bad for giggling, considering you weren’t far from a corpse, but the lightness of it set you free. You hopped on his back and made your way through the woods, following the shrill voices of your campers.
“I’m going to need a drink after today,” Ogata grumbled.
“What do you mean a drink? I need an entire fifth to myself with one of those sport caps they have on water bottles screwed on top.”
“I can make that happen.”
Ogata said it with such ease. He was becoming the perfect distraction, a comforting beacon in a sea of blood and vomit.

I believe I am in Hell, therefore I am
You and your fellow counselors decided a night of binge drinking was needed to cope with the day’s horrifying events. Everyone traded stories. Yūsaku joined the party, finally able to walk upright without yelping in pain. He was blindsided by what happened.
“So that’s it? They’re dead?” he asked, face flushed from his sunburn and the copious amounts of watery American-style lager he was drinking.
You took a sip from a bottle of tequila. Ogata managed to screw a sports cap on top making your dream a reality.
“I don’t know. I mean, yeah. They’re dead. That’s for sure.” The alcohol had softened the blow of seeing both of their bodies. “Seeing Tanigaki fucked me up… Not that Inkarmat didn’t… It’s just, like, his was the first I saw, y’know?”
“You always remember your first,” Usami said as he wandered into the woods to relieve himself.
Yūsaku shivered and you washed away Usami’s words with an amnesia seeking gulp of tequila.
“Sucks for you though. You’re gonna have to pick up the slack.”
“I don’t mind. It’s what I signed up for,” he beamed. “The kids really liked Inkarmat though. I have some big shoes to fill.”
“I think you’ll be a hit. They might try to peel off loose pieces of your skin though.”
“It’s a risk I’m willing to take for the good of the camp!” he cheered.
“You’re ridiculous,” you laughed.
“In a bad way?” he said, batting his long eyelashes.
You thought he was a total dork, but his optimism was infectious. Or maybe it was just your intoxicated mind being more open to suggestion. After having such a horrendous day it was nice to indulge in someone else’s dream. You knew deep down that there was no way camp would go on as planned, but it was easier to pretend that Yūsaku’s drive would be enough to pull everyone through.
“No, no,” you said, patting him on the head. “It’s fine. You’re fine.”
Out of the corner of you watched Ogata emerge from the woods and sit on the ground right next to the campfire. He held his hands to the fire. You watched as he closed his eyes, his body relaxing, shoulders lowered.
“You’re so nice” Yūsaku said, giving you a bear hug and lifting you off the ground.
It caught Ogata’s attention and he narrowed his eyes as his half-brother spun you around.
“Yū—Yūsaku, I’m getting dizzy.”
He blushed and apologized. Once your feet were on the ground you joined Ogata by the fire.
“How’s the bottle been working out for you?”
“Amazing,” you said, taking another drink. “Are you cold?” You scooted closer to him. “Where’d your jacket go?”
“I’m not sure. Why all the questions?”
You didn’t think two questions were considered a lot. “No reason.”
You hadn’t thought this conversation through. You were stumped and floundering. You should have known better to attempt to flirt while drunk. Your chance was slipping through your fingers and it made you ill. You needed something good to happen, something exciting. You needed Ogata to figure out that you were charming and interesting and most importantly fuckable.
He closed the gap and leaned against you.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“Maybe. I… I have no idea honestly. I don’t know how I feel. Sometimes it’s like,” you took a sip of tequila, “I feel freaked the fuck out. But then sometimes I feel abso-fucking-lutely nothing. Like right now. It feels like it didn’t even happen. Are you okay?”
“I am. I only knew them for a week so they didn’t matter much.” His comments were so callous. “Don’t get me wrong. They were nice people, but that’s all they were to me.”
“Nice people,” you repeated.
“Yeah. Nice people.”
“Would you be sad if I died?”
He stared into the fire. “Maybe. Our groups get paired together for activities.”
“What does that mean?!”
“I’m around you a lot. Your absence wouldn’t go unnoticed,” he said with a smirk.
Your cheeks flared up and found it increasingly harder to hold it together. You regretted all the tequila. Spit was pooling in your mouth.
“Yeah, well. Of course it would. I’m, like, fucking… yeah,” you said, eyes half-lidded.
He chuckled. “Exactly.”
“I think the kids and the—their, uh, inarticulateness is rubbing, you know, off.”
“Oh yeah, that’s it. It’s definitely not because your blood is 90 proof.”
“You want some of it?”
You gave him a sloppy wink. His dark eyes widened, his eyebrows raised. It was the first time you had ever seen him so flustered.
“I—” he stuttered.
“Hey,” Shiraishi barked. “You guys seen Vasily?”
Ogata resumed his usual hard to read demeanor. You wanted to break the bottle in your hand and gut Shiraishi with it.
“Uhhhhh… Not like recently. I thought he was with you and Sugimoto,” you replied politely through a clenched jaw.
“We thought he was with you.”
“He could’ve went to bed early,” Ogata suggested.
“Hmmm yeah. I wouldn’t blame him,” you said.
“We should do that,” Shiraishi said, pointing at you. “We have target shooting at seven in the morning.”
You groaned. He was right, a good night’s rest was necessary. It killed you to say good night to Ogata, but there was always tomorrow. You didn’t need to rush things.

I looked on the disorder of my mind as sacred
You woke up the next morning with a persistent ache near your temples. You rolled out of bed and dug around your suitcase for some ibuprofen. You grabbed four and choked them down with room temperature water. It felt thick as it made its way down your throat. The sun was just starting to rise, the sky a dreamy shade of lavender.
It was weird to wake up alone. You hoped that it would be easier the second time around, but Inkarmat’s absence weighed heavy on you. You couldn’t figure out how she made it to the lake. The last time you saw her she said that she was going to fuck Tanigaki and to cover her ass if needed. She must have gotten lost on her way back from wherever it was she met him. Maybe she took a wrong turn and fell. Or maybe Tsurumi had something to do with it.
“Good morning!!”
Shiraishi’s cheery voice cut through your thoughts. You got up and let him in.
“Tsk, tsk. Still in your pajamas. What am I gonna do with you?”
He handed you an enamel mug full of coffee.
“Tsurumi wants to talk to us in an hour. I ran into him when I was going to take a piss.”
“Did he seem worried?”
“Not really.”
“Weird… I think he has something to do with it. He killed Tanigaki for sure and he probably killed Inkarmat too.”
“What makes you think that?”
“I think Tsurumi poisoned him with hemlock. What we saw lines up with the symptoms he told us when we went mushroom foraging.” Shiraishi didn’t look convinced. “Like do you think this is all a coincidence?”
“Why would he kill him though?”
“People kill without motives all the time.”
“I don’t buy it.”
“Seriously? He’s a creep. Who else would it be?”
“I don’t think it’s a person,” he whispered suddenly. His eyes shifted from left to right. “I think this place is haunted.”
“Oh yeah? Did Inkarmat read some passages out of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis? Did she release the Deadites? Or maybe the soul of a drowned ex-camper is wandering the woods and picking us off one by one.”
Shiraishi was an idiot. There was no way the camp was haunted. You kicked him out and got dressed. You felt like you were moving in slow motion. You didn’t want to have some group discussion about what happened the day before. You wanted to put it in the past and focus on the kids and their activities. You wanted to finally have a canoe race.
When you walked into the mess hall it was dead silent. You took a seat next to Ogata much to the disappointment of Shiraishi and Sugimoto. There was an empty seat in between them.
“Where’s everyone?” you asked.
“No one’s seen Vasily or Usami since last night. And Koito’s with the kids. We’re just waiting on Tsurumi.”
“What about Nurse Kano?”
“I dunno…”
“Sorry I’m late!” Yūsaku said breathily. His hair was wet and his clothes were haphazardly thrown on.
“We haven’t even started yet,” Ogata groaned. “Sit down.”
Five minutes later Tsurumi came in with Tsukishima following behind like a shadow. He looked tired. His normally neat hair was askew, several strands of hair grazing his face, and his clothes were wrinkled.
“There’s no easy way to begin this discussion. We’re down four counselors. Genjirō and Inkarmat are dead, and apparently some of you are missing. That means there are twelve campers without any supervision.” He pointed at Yūsaku. “Yūsaku, you’re their counselor now. We’re also down a nurse. I received a note this morning from Nurse Kano saying, ‘I’m done with this shit. You’re not paying me enough and if I see you again Im going to skin you alive.’ Needless to say, I would appreciate it if we kept any and all injuries to a minimum.”
Shiraishi raised his hand. “What if there’s an accident?”
“There won’t be any accidents!”
It was the first time any of you heard Tsurumi raise his voice. He took a deep breath and continued speaking, his tone even.
“The police have been informed about the disappearances. They said,” he sighed, “they’ll keep in touch.”
Sugimoto’s hand shot up. “Mr. Tsurumi, I have a question.”
“Yes, Saichi.”
“Shouldn’t we cancel our activities today and go look for Vasily and Usami?”
“I see no reason to punish innocent children for our failings.”
“Aww,” Shiraishi said quietly. “That’s so sweet.”
“It’s best to leave this up to the authorities. The last thing I want is for one of you to get hurt. We’re short staffed as it is,” Tsurumi said before ending the meeting.
The campers were full of questions, but overall the day was peaceful. Target shooting went well, and the kids loved learning Russian. Whenever Tsukishima wasn’t paying attention Ogata would teach them a few swear words. They lived for it, laughing like hyenas as Tsukishima tried to figure out what was so funny. Things felt kind of normal.
Sugimoto was the one to finally suggest going on a night hike after dinner. He thought Tsurumi was stupid for not utilizing everyone in the search, and it weighed on his mind all day.
“I can’t believe the cops didn’t show up,” he said, turning on his flashlight.
“That’s illegal, right?” Shiraishi asked.
Ogata yawned. “It might be, but they don’t care.”
“Whatever,” Sugimoto said dismissively. “I’ll probably regret saying this, but I think we should split up. We’ll cover more ground.”
“I’ll go with Ogata,” you blurted out.
Sugimoto’s millisecond of confused silence opened a window for Ogata to direct the hastily thrown together operation.
“We'll go further up the mountain and check the trails. You guys stay at this elevation and search the woods. I’m sure they got lost. I’d say let’s bet on it, but I know you’re all broke.”
Shiraishi nodded, but Sugimoto looked annoyed beyond belief. You watched as they melted away into the darkness eagerly awaiting your alone time with Ogata.
“It’s better if we both have one,” he said, handing you a flashlight. “You said my name pretty fast back there.”
Your palms began to sweat. You had been too eager.
“I don’t know,” you said, pushing a low hanging branch out of your face. “Shiraishi’s been getting on my nerves.”
You cringed at your lie. Hopefully Ogata would deem it inconsequential and forget you ever said it.
“Is he really that bad?”
“Uh, well, you know… He—sometimes it’s like he’s just so obnoxious.”
“He is pretty annoying. I don’t know how you put up with him.”
“I’m, um, just really good at tolerating people. It’s hard though.”
“You’re good at hiding it.”
You were good at hiding it because you loved having Shiraishi as a partner.
“Thank you.”
“It’s too bad we weren’t paired together. Sugimoto’s an asshole,” he sighed.
The two of you walked cautiously down the trail. You grew more and more nervous as it got steeper. Every twig felt like a landmine. You kept your eyes on the ground. It proved to be a terrible idea because you ended up walking right into Ogata. He fell forward, dropping his flashlight.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I’m so fucking sorry,” you said, cradling him in your arms.
He looked up at you. His forehead and his arms were covered in swaths of raw skin and blood. He tried to get up, but only managed to roll onto the ground. You pulled off your sweatshirt and put it under his head as a makeshift pillow.
You dug through your backpack for your first aid kit. It was nearly empty already because your group of campers loved skinning their knees. You found a few alcohol wipes and some gauze. You wanted to punch your past self for not refilling it, but now wasn’t the time for self-flagellation.
“It’s gonna sting.”
“I’m not a child. You don’t need to remind me.”
“Damn, okay,” you said, cleaning the wound on his head.
“Sorry…” he mumbled.
It was just a superficial scrape, but of course the urge to spiral was present. Despite your attempts to be optimistic your mind went to the worst places.
I gave him a traumatic brain injury. I cracked his beautiful skull. I killed him and Mr. Tsurumi is going to be so fucking mad at me!
“No. I’m sorry. I’m the idiot that made you fall.”
“Good point. I take back my apology.”
You slapped an alcohol wipe on one of the cuts on his arm. His pained groan was like an angel singing your name.
“What day is it?” you asked, trying to ignore the throbbing between your legs.
“June 8th.”
“What’s the time?”
He paused. “I don’t know. It was around 10 when we left.”
“Do you feel dizzy? Nauseous? Sleepy?”
“No.”
“Do you remember what ha—”
“You shoved me and I fell.”
“Shove makes it seem like it was intentional.”
“It was.”
“No it was not.”
He sat up. “Yes it was. You shoved me because you have a huge crush on me and you can’t stand it.”
“You definitely damaged your brain. Like, you’re so unwell right now. It’s sick.”
He laughed. “Don’t deny it. You can be honest with me.”
“I was looking at the ground! There were exposed roots!”
He pulled his arm away from you and grabbed you by the jaw. “If that’s all it was, why do you look nervous?”
“That’s just my face.”
“It’s a cute one.”
You panicked and tried to think of a cool, couth response, but nothing came. You just sat there, brain filled with white noise. The air was heavy; you felt like you were choking. You kept your breathing steady, but it was a herculean effort. All your energy was going into keeping yourself in one piece. The longer those four words sank in, the harder it was to retain your humanity.
It’s a cute one. It’s a cute one. It’s a cute one.
Your hesitation evaporated and you clumsily kissed him. Despite his words he seemed unimpressed with your agency, giving nothing in return. And in turn you felt nothing. It was like you were holding him hostage rather than sweeping him off his feet.
“Um, we should… go back to camp.”
The relief you felt upon finding Sugimoto and Shiraishi was immense. However your fellow counselors remained missing. You couldn’t help but feel like you were hunting for ghosts.

I found I could extinguish all human hope from my soul
Much to the chagrin of Shiraishi, Tsurumi asked you to help Yūsaku and his twelve campers. It wasn’t ideal. Managing kids you weren’t familiar with was rough. They tested you left and right. They relished in lying about their names, snickering when you’d try to chastise them. They seemed to have a modicum of respect for Yūsaku though.
“How’s it going?” Shiraishi asked during your lunch.
“It’s—”
“Well I’m having a terrible time. These kids hate me. They keep asking when you’re coming back.”
You laughed. “Did you tell them never? Because I don’t see Tsurumi letting the golden boy stuck with a bunch of kids on his own.”
“It’s not like he needs you! I’m dying out there!”
“You have Sugimoto.” You sighed. “And Ogata.”
“They’re barely any help. Sugimoto’s too busy trying to solve a murder mystery like he’s Columbo. And Ogata’s too busy being his weird self. I think he’s pissed off at Hanazawa.”
You cocked an eyebrow.
“I don’t know why. Maybe he’s jealous that Hanazawa is—”
“Working with me?” you asked, your eyes full of stars.
“Psh. No. Part of me thinks Ogata just wants to be Tsurumi’s pet.”
 “Oh. No yeah, you’re right.” You stared off into space. “He totally wants to be the golden boy.”
“You’re both wrong.” Ogata silently took a seat next to Shiraishi. Your head was swimming. “I just hate being here.”
“Then why glare at your brother?” Shiraishi asked haughtily.
“Are you an only child, Shiraishi?”
“Probably.”
Ogata smirked and changed the subject. “How is working with him?”
His tone wasn’t threatening, but the flatness of his gaze made you feel like you were being interrogated.
“It’s fine!” you exclaimed a bit too hurriedly. You tried to save face by tempering your tone to match the coolness of Ogata’s. “I mean, yeah, like, it’s okay. The kids like him, which is good because they can’t stand me. I don’t mind him, you know, taking the lead. He is the lead counselor.”
“It looked like he was doing all the work.”
His words were a wasp’s sting.
“You’d be stupid not to take advantage of that dork,” Shiraishi said in an attempt to bandage your wound.
“I’m not taking advantage of him.”
“Shiraishi has a point.”
“No he does not!”
“You can admit it,” Ogata teased.
“There’s nothing to admit. What am I supposed to admit?”
He paused.
“You know you hate being here just as much as everyone else.”
You glared at Ogata. “If I hated being here, I would leave.”
“Sure you would.”
“Yeah! Exactly. I would.”
Shiraishi scurried away awkwardly, though to be honest you barely noticed.
“I don’t know,” he chuckled. “How can you be so sure of something like that?”
“Because—because I know myself? This isn’t, like, some hypothetical thing. If I didn’t want to be here, I would leave. But I’m invested in whatever the fuck is going on… And I like my kids! I care about them! Okay, not the ones I have right now. Honestly fuck those ki—oh god.”
Ogata was trying to hold back a laugh. “Child hater.”
“I don’t hate kids! Even kids that are little shits. I’m just…” You carefully chose your words. “Not fond of some.” You regained your conviction. “Regardless it’s not like I could ever leave any of them behind.”
“It’s so funny.”
You tilted your head, awaiting an elaboration.
“You all say the same thing. The way you say it is different, but—”
“What are you talking about?”
He stood up and patted you on the head. “Nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
You thought about chasing after him, but there was only ten minutes left of your lunch and you hadn’t even touched your food. You choked it down and searched for Yūsaku. You found him sitting in the grass, telling the kids one of his numerous summer camp tales.
“And that’s how I learned you should never eat mud.”
You joined their circle. “How was the jigen-ryū class?”
“Boring,” one chirped.
“Lame,” another admitted.
“I hate Mr. Koito.” one said bluntly. “Why does he scream so much?”
Yūsaku nervously chastised the kids.
You giggled. “That’s a great question. But I have an even better one: who wants to have a canoe race?”
The kids were eager for normalcy, typical summer fun, and you couldn’t blame them. You sought it yourself. Anything to shake off your conversation with Ogata. You felt like it poked holes in your brain. You hoped in utter desperation that the laughter of children and the afternoon sunlight dancing across Yūsaku’s precious face would fill them.
And for a brief moment they did. But Ogata remained a looming presence. He was so distracting you came dead last in the race. Your eyes couldn’t focus on anything other than him watching from a distance like a hunter.
Tumblr media
A man who wants to mutilate himself is certainly damned
You went to bed early that night though you failed to drift away. You were in a fetal position, snuggled up in your sleeping bag, looking up at the Milky Way through your window for hours. You couldn’t get Ogata out of your mind.
“Idiot,” you murmured as you flipped over onto your back, not sure if you were calling him an idiot or yourself.
You stretched out and took up every inch of your bed. Your joints popped, the satisfaction from the sound soothed your soul. There was the chance this was as worse as it would get. Yes, people were dropping like flies, disappearing mysteriously. Yes, the camp director was a blatant freak. Yes, Ogata was fucking with your head. But the canoe race was normal! It was benign and expected! Those moments were few and far between so far. Maybe this was a good omen, a sneak peak of the placidity that was going to follow.
Pretending to be optimistic successfully lulled you to sleep. But rapid, and somehow pathetic, pounding on your cabin door ripped you from your slumber. You groaned audibly, hoping whoever was in desperate need of your attention would feel a semblance of shame. You got out of bed at a sloth’s pace and sighed before opening the door.
“Are you busy?” Ogata asked.
“I was sleeping.”
He gently pushed you out of the way and entered the cabin, a stiffness and urgency embodied in the swift movement. Your grip on consciousness was tenuous at best so you didn’t protest.
“Everything, uh, good?” you asked.
“If I said I wanted to apologize, would you believe me?”
You scoffed. “Not after asking me that.”
He sat down on your bed, and you struggled to hide your disgust. You couldn’t stop thinking about the fetid remnants of the woods that lingered on his sweatpants. Having him take them off crossed your mind.
“Well I am.”
“You’re what?”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean it… All the stuff I said.”
“You sure about that?”
He attempted to smooth down a strand of his hair. A hoarse mhm resonated in his throat.
“You’re so easy to rile up. I couldn’t resist.”
“Well,” you groaned. “Thanks. I guess.”
You figured he’d get up and leave, but instead his presence lingered, growing heavier by the second. His eyes were restless, his body tense.
“Do you mind if I stay the night?” he asked, his eyes fixed on the floor.
It was such an abrupt question. All you could do was choke out an affirmation. You knew kicking him out was the smart thing to do, but his perceived permanence on your bed overwhelmed you. The rational voice in your head grew fainter, your lust forcing its way through your papery veil of self-preservation. You were nothing more than your repressed urges.
“Are you sure?”
Dumb question. You’d never been so sure of something in your life. You couldn’t recall any form of previous trepidation though you weren’t trying particularly hard to do so.
“Yeah,” you answered, sitting beside him.
You leaned in. His sweatshirt smelled like wet leaves and copper. You used his thigh to steady yourself. He turned his head, his dark eyes looking through you. It was unnerving, but not enough to trigger common sense.
“Aren’t you hot?” you asked, laughing as the question tumbled from your mouth. His answer didn’t matter. “You’re making me sweat.”
You tugged at his sweatshirt. It felt dirty, heavy with sweat and earth. He took it off without a stitch of hesitation. Your eyes trailed down his arms, longing for them to be wrapped around you. It was the only way you’d make it through the night.
“I run cold,” he practically purred.
Cliche comments ran through your head.
That’s so funny because I could totally keep you warm, big boy.
I’m burning up, why don’t you cool me off with your stupid, gorgeous body?
“That’s cool.” Your brain shut down. “I want you.”
Your bluntness seemed to please him. His lips curled into a half smile before he pulled you into a kiss. He wasted no time, pushing his tongue past your teeth. He caressed your cheek as his tongue brushed up against yours, soft and warm. He pulled you onto his lap and rubbed the inside of your thigh with his rough hands. You tugged at his shirt, the cotton damp with sweat. He lifted it up and pulled it off, letting it drop on the floor.
“You should lie down,” you said, breath hot against his neck.
“Am I easier to take advantage of that way?”
“Excuse me?”
Your question went unheeded and he reclined on your bed, beckoning you to straddle him. You looked down at his body, muscles perfectly toned like they were crafted by the gods. He looked so pleased with himself, like he’d won an award. His cock was hard against the thin fabric of his sweatpants. It ached against you.
You studied his face. There were a few faint, red scratches across his cheek. You ran your thumb down one, feeling the slightly swollen skin. He winced.
“What happened?” you asked.
He exhaled. “I fell.”
“Like recently or?”
“On my way over.”
“How?”
His right eye twitched.
“I tripped,” he said, words clipped.
“On what?”
You never knew him to be clumsy, if anything he was rather feline in his agility. His fingers dug deeper into your hips before rolling you onto your back and getting on top of you. He pressed his rough palm over your lips.
“Hush.” His tone was nauseatingly sweet.
“I’m serious, are you okay?” you asked, voice muffled by his hand.
He titled his head and stared into your eyes with a calculated gaze.
“Isn’t it a little late for you to be so talkative?”
It was astounding how easy it was for him to shut you down. Granted you weren’t steadfast when it came to Ogata. You couldn’t take a firm stance. How could you hold onto a belief when you couldn’t predict his reaction to it? You wanted to be palatable and if that meant bending like a willow to his incomprehensible will then so be it.
“You’re so cute,” he said, removing his hand. “You’re like a scared deer.”
He lifted up the oversized t-shirt you liked to sleep in and pulled off your underwear. His fingers grazed your folds, coating them in your arousal. You swallowed hard, spit catching in your throat, as he slid them into your cunt. They curled inside you, pressing against your walls. The pressure made your skin tingle.
His gaze was attentive but cold. You felt studied, examined. It bred a twinge of looming uncertainty, one that settled in your stomach. But he didn’t hesitate with a remedy. He pushed his fingers as far as they could go and began fucking you with them. Your concern disappeared as fast as it came. Your eyes glazed over, ensnared by the man looming over you. You tried in vain to hold back your pleased whimpers.
He leaned in close, his breath hot against your ear. “You’re falling apart so fast.” His lips grazed your lobe.
Apologizing crossed your mind, but you kept your mouth shut. You writhed underneath his weight, rutting up against his fingers as they fucked your slick cunt.
Your hands wandered down his back. His skin was soft and sticky with sweat. You let your fingers trail down his spine before settling on the crest of his ass. You yanked down his briefs and dug your fingers into the taut flesh. He flashed an impish smile and pulled them down, kicking them off. The head of his cock was leaking precum. He tugged on it and bathed in your starved gaze.
“You want me so bad,” he said haughtily. “Tell me how bad you want me.”
You sighed as he jerked himself off. “I feel like I’ll die if you don’t fuck me.”
“Oh yeah?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I need you.”
“Then beg for it,” he growled.
“Please. Please fuck me.”
He rubbed his cock up against your folds. “Say my name.”
“Please fuck me, Hyakunosuke. Please. Please. Please.”
He nuzzled your neck and pressed his cocktip against your clit. “More.”
You continued to plead, body aching for him to fuck you. He guided his cock inside you, its girth stretching your tight cunt. He groaned as he pushed it in further. His movements were slow, and he seemed to relish in your whimpering.
“Tell me how good it feels,” he commanded as he thrust into you.
“Really good. Really fucking good,” you babbled.
He let out a pleased sigh and fully submerged his length within you. His tip pressed up against your cervix, sending a shock to your core. You yelped as he pushed against it harder.
“Such a big cock for such a precious little thing.”
His thrusts drove you into the mattress, making your cot creak. His touch wasn’t gentle. He didn’t hesitate to bend your body to his liking, to show off his strength. It was deliciously overwhelming. He laced his fingers in your hair and pulled. He manhandled your legs to get them over his shoulders. You knew his force would leave blooms of bruises on your ankles, bruises you’d have to explain away when your friends inquired about your life after hours.
Being at his will was exciting.
“Do you like getting fucked like a whore?”
“Uh-huh,” you moaned.
He grinned. You wanted to lick his teeth, but settled for hugging his cock with your cunt.
“Fuck,” he hissed, jaw clenched. “You’re gonna make me cum.”
His pace quickened and his breathing grew labored. He seemed weakened by his impending climax. His eyes were softer, his words lacked their previous domineering weight. He looked like he was in agony. Seeing him fall apart made your clit throb. It was almost too much. Your body was immersed in euphoria, drowning in an obscene amount of debauched delight. To finally experience something you craved for so long was almost maddening. So many times you dreamt about him lording over your body under the serene light of the moon. And now you were living it out.
You wanted him to come first, to feel his cum flood your cunt, but your body wasn’t on the same page. Your impending climax was bubbling up inside you. Resisting it was a futile feat. What good was it to deny yourself such ecstasy?
“Harder,” you moaned.
He repositioned himself so he could drive his cock deeper in. You felt like you were going to burst. You dug your fingers into your mattress, gripping the tangled up sheets. The feeblest attempt to keep yourself tethered to this world lest you ascend to an Icarus end. Your back arched as a numinous groan crept up from the depths of your being, a simple carnal prayer. A cluster of whimpers followed in its wake.
Every inch of tension melted away as you let your orgasm consume you. You nearly forgot where you were until you heard Ogata’s pained voice.
“Where do you want it?” he asked urgently.
“Inside, inside,” you babbled.
He grimaced and pulled his cock out of your dripping cunt. He straddled your chest and held your head, forcing you to crane your neck. He pushed his cock past your lips and rutted against your face. His touch became gentle, hands almost cradling the base of your skull. He held you like you were fragile, like he could rip you to pieces if he lacked restraint.
“Look up at me,” he groaned as his cum splattered against the back of your throat.
You looked up at him, as he continued to thrust. Spurts of his piquant cum filled your mouth. You thought it would never end. Tears welled up in your eyes as his cum trickled from the corners of your mouth. Once his cock stopped twitching he placed his hand on your forehead and pushed you off. He then rolled over onto his back and stared blankly at the ceiling.
“Um,” you said, crashing back into reality.
You hoped no one heard what happened. Your cabin was the one closest to the outskirts of everything, but still. Your cot’s incessant squeaking plagued you. Your breathy moans haunted you. Ogata’s audible grunting was a dark cloud swirling above your head. You missed your fucked out state of mind. You debated on chasing it. You thought about grabbing his semi-erect cock, but the feeling faded from your grasp. It didn’t help that he looked completely dissociated from the situation.
“Hyaku,” you paused, his first name felt too intimate, ”Ogata?”
You rolled over onto your side and placed your hand on his shoulder.
“Are you alright?”
“Sure,” he said before turning his back to you.
“Okay,” you replied, molding your body beside his.
You expected him to scoot away from you, or retire to the unforgiving floor. But instead he pressed himself up against you. You draped an arm over him and nuzzled your face against his undercut as you drifted away.

Life is the farce we are all forced to endure
Waking up alone wasn’t a surprise though it was still disappointing.
The sun roused you, making you painfully aware of your lack of clothes and the dried cum in the corners of your mouth. Visions of a relaxing shower danced through your mind. You could practically feel the steam surrounding you. However, leaving your cabin was precarious. No one could see you like this, skittering around and clutching your toiletries like they were gold. You’d wither away if perceived.
“I got this,” you whispered to no one in particular.
You stepped out into the morning light. It felt early. You didn’t hear any kids or any sort of chatter which was a relief. The outside world was safe; it was secure. You took a deep breath and took in the fresh air.
“Good morning.”
Your exhale lodged itself in your throat, forcing out a pathetic cough.
“Fuck. I mean good morning, Mr. Tsurumi.”
He looked tired, less triumphant, and part of you wondered if he was going to kill you.
“I wasn’t expecting you to be up this early.”
“I wasn’t expecting to be either,” you said, trying to mask your discomfort. “Anyway—”
He interrupted your attempt at a polite getaway. “How well do you know Yūsaku?”
“Uh. I guess about as well as you can know anyone given the amount of ti—”
“Did he seem unhappy? Dissatisfied?”
“That sunburn made him pretty miserable.”
He studied you. “Anything beyond that?”
“I—yeah no, I think that’s, uh, the only thing.”
“I see. Well I won’t keep you any longer.”
You simply smiled and nodded. Once he was out of sight you sprinted to the showers, eager for the cleanly embrace of its solitude. It was exactly what you wanted, what you needed. You needed to wash away whatever that conversation had been. You couldn’t figure out why he was so curious about Yūsaku. Your relationship with him was friendly but superficial. You wouldn’t know how to describe him in any meaningful way if prompted to, but made an attempt anyway.
He’s Ogata’s half-brother. He can tell two different stories about eating mud as a little kid. He sucks at putting on sunscreen. His eyelashes are pretty. He has a general golden boy vibe that is almost insufferably charming.
You knew essentially nothing. Whereas you could write an entire thesis regarding the random facts about Shiraishi you learned against your will.
You spent the entirety of your shower, wracking your brain over the camp director’s questioning. Unfortunately your brain wasn’t operating at full capacity. The night before lingered around you like a ghostly shroud. Your legs were peppered with bruises and your hips were sore. There were so many random aches echoing throughout your body.
By the time you were done the shrill voices of children flooded the camp. You hurriedly made your way back to your cabin, careful to avoid running into anyone. But despite the painstaking  care you took, there was Shiraishi pawing at your door anxiously like a dog.
“Are you okay?” you asked.
He didn’t bother answering your question. “They’re sending all the kids home.”
“Wait, seriously?”
“Yup. A few parents have already come by. Tsurumi wants to sit us all down and talk about what we’re gonna do.”
“We’re all going to leave, right?”
“Well we got all this shit here. The canoes. The food. The giant shogi pieces. All of that needs to get packed up probably. Do you think we’ll still get paid even if there’s no kids to watch?”
“I’d like to think so.”
“I heard something kinda messed up though.” You stepped closer to him and he continued, his voice low. “I overheard Koito saying some shit to Tsukishima about another body being found.”
“No,” you gasped.
“Yeah. They left maybe an hour ago. I doubt they’re coming back. I saw them pack—”
“Okay whatever. Whose body?”
Shiraishi shushed you. “Yūsaku’s.”
“Shut up.”
“Tsurumi found him hanging in the forest.”
“Like hanging out, right? With his brother maybe?” you asked desperately.
“Nope.”
“ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?”
“Relax! Maybe I heard wrong.”
You took a measured breath and distanced yourself from this loss. “It makes sense. Tsurumi was asking me about Yūsaku this morning. He wanted to know if Yūsaku was sad or, I don’t know, depressed I guess.”
“Did he seem—”
“No, but not all suicidal people act like outwardly suicidal.”
“So you think he killed himself?”
“Fuck no,” you sneered. “I bet Tsurumi did. That’s why he was asking me about him. He wanted to come up with an alibi, or a reason for Yūsaku to have done something like that.”
Shiraishi looked a little nervous. “Whoa, whoa. Let’s not jump the gun.”
You pushed him away from the door and dropped your stuff off. On the walk to the mess hall you watched as kids crawled into massive minivans and sleek electric cars. They were a resilient bunch. You admired their ability to withstand the trauma murder reaped. It sucked to see them go, but this camp was no place for their kind.
You felt oddly numb in the wake of Yūsaku’s apparent demise, especially as you sat amongst the camp’s dwindling numbers. It was just you, Shiraishi, Sugimoto, Ogata, and that freak Tsurumi. You all sat in a circle around an ashen fire pit, sipping coffee. It was bitter, the acidic taste boring holes through your tongue.
“It pains me to say this,” Tsurumi began.
“We all know about Yūsaku,” Shiraishi yawned.
His lack of tact made you want to crawl into your mug and drown.
“Oh, I wasn’t going to start off with that but…” He sighed. “As you all apparently know Yūsaku is no longer with us.”
“Did he go home?” Ogata asked.
“Shut up,” Sugimoto hissed.
Tsurumi ignored the chatter and continued. You struggled to focus. Your mind drifted off into fantasies of catching the camp director in the act and getting the hero treatment for saving the day. They were fun scenarios to entertain, but deep down you didn’t crave glory or even recognition. You just wanted to be right.
To no one’s surprise Tsurumi managed to convince everyone to stay one more night in order to return the camp to its previous barren state. It was depressing to snuff out the last remnants of the camp’s life, but necessary so Tsurumi could get back his security deposit. It was impressive to see how impermanent everything was. What took a week to create was dismantled within a day, a notion that haunted you to no end. You hated to think everything was so transient. It beckoned you to hold on tighter to your memories, to the bonds you fostered. If they were going to be ripped away, they would be marred with ghostly reminders of your feral grip.
Throughout the day you orbited around Ogata, searching for tasks that required you to be near him. Despite your attempts to be discreet, anyone with a brain could see your passive clinginess. You couldn’t help yourself. You wanted to ask if he was okay, but you didn’t want to risk an awkward conversation. When you finally built up the confidence to speak to him he was swept away by a bored sheriff wearing mirrored sunglasses.
“Wonder what they’re talking about,” Shiraishi said, startling you.
“Yūsaku obviously,” you scoffed as you swept the porch of a cabin. “Whatever. It’s not like I care.”
He laughed loud enough to grab the attention of the sheriff. Ogata was undisturbed.
“I feel bad for him.”
“Yeah?”
Shiraishi frowned. “Yeah, like his brother’s dead. He’s a total weirdo with no friends. And he’s short.”
“I’m pretty sure you’re shorter than him.”
“I am, but I’m sexy and have friends.”
Ogata was sexy, but you opted to keep that to yourself.
“Okay, and?” you said bristling with annoyance. “Go bother someone else.”
“I actually had a reason for bugging you. Sugimoto wants to make s’mores tonight because we have a bunch of marshmallows. I was thinking we could turn it into a mini party.”
“A final hurrah.”
“Exactly!” he said as he walked away.
S’mores and cold beer sounded nice, but not nearly as nice as another night with Ogata. You watched as he stared lazily at the sheriff, his posture loose and mildly defiant. He wasn’t naive enough to believe Yūsaku hung himself. He must have caught onto how strange Tsurumi was. There was no way he hadn’t. He was perceptive. You couldn’t help but feel as though you were kindred spirits.
When the sheriff finally left you decided to approach him.
“Hey,” you said gently. “I just wanted to, you know…uh. I’m really sorry about your brother.”
“Why? Did you make him kill himself?” he said, his gaze friendly yet cold.
You laughed and shifted uncomfortably.
“I just wanted to see if you were okay. Is there anything I can do?”
“Hmm. I don’t know.” He closed the distance you kept. “How far are you willing to go to comfort me?”
“A normal amount. If you need to talk or anything, I don’t mind listening.”
“Would you mind choking on my cock again? I found that to be very soothing.”
Ogata’s words were grotesque rather than alluring. You couldn’t help but feel like he was just trying to scare you off. His vulgarity lacked any sort of intensity. The threat was hollow. You swallowed hard and tried to look less timid.
“Don’t be an asshole. If you need to talk, you know where to find me.”
He looked thoroughly amused. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
You patted his shoulder with a platonic, heavy hand and headed off in a random direction. You were too frazzled to think that far ahead, but you walked into the woods with faux confidence.

All filthy memories fade out
You sighed in relief as the sun sunk into the horizon. Making s’mores and getting drunk by a fire sounded like the only suitable end for such a horrific venture. Shiraishi and Sugimoto met you by your cabin and aided you in crafting a fire pit.
“It’s so fucked up we never made these with the kids,” Sugimoto sighed, puncturing three marshmallows with a two-pronged skewer specially made for the act.
You sipped your beer. “We failed them.”
Shiraishi nodded. “We may be the dream team, but we weren’t perfect.”
“The what?!” Sugimoto struggled not to laugh as he crafted a picturesque s’more.
“Wh—who? Who’s the dream team?” you asked.
“Us! Me, you, and Sugimoto… obviously.”
“I had no idea.”
“I never said it out loud until now,” Shiraishi said solemnly.
It was hard to deny. The chaos that was camp proved to be a great conduit for bonding despite the horrors. You never would have made it through without Shiraishi’s humor and Sugimoto’s kindness.
“Dream team, huh?” Sugimoto said with a smile blooming across his face.
You punched Shiraishi in the arm. “Cute. I like it.”
Shiraishi blushed and shifted his gaze to the case of beer.
“How does the dream team feel about shotgunning some beers?”
Shotgunning some beers turned into shotgunning several. Stabbing the cans and chugging like your life depended on it was addicting. By the end of it you were all in a hazy trance. You collapsed down into your chair with too much vigor, sending yourself backwards into the dirt. You cackled like a witch.
“Holy shit! Are you okay?” Sugimoto asked. He was unable to hide his amused smile.
He held out his hand and hoisted you up. Shiraishi watched on, tears in his eyes, and stabbed another beer with his pocket knife. Beer spurted out of the hole and it sprayed all over. A dramatic “noooooooooo!" erupted from him as he tried in vain to suckle the rest of the beer out of the can. Sugimoto could barely hold himself together and lost his balance, sending you back into the unforgiving dirt and landing directly on you. His body was so heavy you thought you were going to suffocate. Luckily he rolled off of you within a second, wheezing with laughter.
The comedy of errors was too much. Not a single one of you went unscathed.
“I’m so sorry,” Sugimoto choked out.
You stood up and brushed the dust off of your body. “It’s okay. I’m alive. I made it. I survived.”
“You know,” Sugimoto said, still sitting in the dirt. “I’m really gonna miss you guys.”
“We’ll have to meet up again before summer ends.”
Shiraishi wiped the beer from his lips. “That’s assuming we live.”
“Dude! Not funny.” Sugimoto threw an empty can at Shiraishi. It missed.
“I’ll probably die next,” you replied thoughtfully. “Tsurumi’s gonna catch on and have to silence me.”
“Stop!”
Shiraishi corrected you. “No, no. It’ll be me.”
“Yeah, you know what. It’ll be Shiraishi, and then you. And then me.”
Shiraishi pouted. “What makes you so sure you’ll live the longest?”
“I’m immortal, dumb ass.”
“If you’re immortal, why not protect us?” you suggested.
“Yeah!”
“I’ll obviously do that! That goes without saying!”
You looked at him, doe-eyed. “Promise?”
He stood up, his balance shakier than ever. It didn’t inspire much confidence in his ability to protect you, but you chose to believe in his conviction.
“As long as I am here, neither of you will die. I… I love you guys s—so much.”
“Don’t cry. If you cry, I’ll cry. And I hate crying in the woods.”
You heard rustling in the distance. Sugimoto and Shiraishi didn’t seem to notice so you chalked it up to your intoxication. You focused your attention on the delightful little bars of artisan chocolate Yūsaku bought for the kids. Your stomach had been growling, begging for something other than beer.
“Gimme the stick thingy,” you barked at Sugimoto.
“Is that any way to ask me for something?”
“You’re talking like a caveman.”
You groaned. “Please give me a, uh,” you gestured towards the skewer resting at Sugimoto’s feet, “that item. Please, good sir.”
Shiraishi applauded your efforts like a real friend and spoke words of affirmation as you struggled to make a s’more. Neither of them stepped in to help you. They appeared to find your tribulation much too entertaining, and you were much too drunk to ask for assistance. However you managed to make four. The sloppiness didn’t detract from the flavor which was all that mattered.
“Fuuuuuuuck,” Shiraishi said. “I don’t know about you guys but I’m tired.”
Sugimoto stretched his arms above his head and yawned. “Yeah, I have a long drive tomorrow. I’m not trying to fall asleep at the wheel.”
It was almost painful to part ways. A little sliver of you was afraid to enter your cabin on your own. You knew there was no reason to be scared. It wasn’t as if Tsurumi was hiding inside, waiting for the perfect opportunity to stab you. There was no way he could have snuck past you, Shiraishi, and Sugimoto. One of you would have seen him, or at the very least heard him.
Your heart began to pound. You had heard something lurking about in the woods. It very well could’ve been him. Maybe you were too drunk to be vigilant and maybe Tsurumi took advantage of that. Your hand trembled as you reached for the doorknob. Your fear was heavy and looming. It was like you were slowly being crushed. Every inhale felt like it was catching in your throat. You slowly twisted the knob and pressed your weight up against the door.
“Hello?” you asked as if an assailant would actually respond.
You flipped the switch and your room was filled with soft, incandescent light. There was no one in sight, not a soul. The relief you felt was almost overwhelming. Your terror was replaced by a pleasant drowsiness. Sleeping through the night with no interruptions wouldn’t be a pipe dream.
And it seemed to be going along quite well…
Until you had to pee of course. The urge hit you like a truck. You sprung up out of bed and ran all the way to the bathroom, hoping you’d make it in time. You regretted drinking so much. If it hadn’t been for the beer you might have gotten an uninterrupted six hours.
Luckily you made it to the bathroom in time, but on your walk back you became keenly aware of the fact you were still quite drunk.
“Ughhhhhhhhhhh,” you moaned as you trudged back.
You passed Tsurumi’s cabin and it triggered a deep desire to indulge in some snooping. Moonlighting as a drunk detective seemed like an incredible idea.
There were no lights on in his cabin, which wasn’t odd considering it was the middle of the night. But everything seemed vaguely ominous given your state of mind and your desire to prove he was the murderer. You peeked in his window and saw him sleeping. He was face down, body spread out like a starfish.
“What a freak.”
“You’re the one watching him sleep.”
You spun around and saw Ogata. You opened your mouth to scream but he covered it. His hand was damp and smelled like soap. He looked unkempt, and seemed a little frazzled.
“I can explain,” you whispered.
“Are you drunk?”
“Maybe. Listen!”
He shushed you and grabbed you by the wrist. He dragged you away from Tsurumi’s window.
“Can I talk now?” You didn’t wait for an answer. “I think Tsurumi is killing everyone.”
He looked thoroughly amused. “What makes you so sure—”
“He’s a total fucking weirdo, Ogata! He, you know, like… Okay, I don’t have solid proof. But he did ask me about your brother. He was like ‘Ohhh, do you think Yūsaku was suicidal? Did he seem like a little sad boy with little sad boy problems?’ And I was like, ‘No.’ And he was like all… whatever.” You hiccuped. “Why would he ask me that if he wasn’t trying to find a way to cover up his crime?”
“You did work with Yūsaku. I don’t think it’s weird that Tsurumi would ask you about him. If I were him, you would be one of the first people I’d talk to.”
“Ogataaaaaaaaaa,” you whined. “Don’t be a shit.”
“All I’m saying is the two of you seemed close.”
“I don’t know if I’d go that far.”
“I think he had a crush on you,” he teased.
“He didn’t.”
“I wouldn’t blame him for having one.”
You gave up on protesting. It wasn’t like he was actually listening to you. You turned your gaze towards the ground. It was then you noticed what looked like rusty stains on his shoes.
“You really shouldn’t wear white shoes.”
He looked confused.
“Yours are always s—so dirty.”
He stared down at his shoes and smiled. “I like them this way.”
You shrugged. “Anyway. I think Tsurumi poisoned Tanigaki with mushrooms.”
“What about Inkarmat? Usami? Vasi—”
“When did they find Usami and Vasily?!”
He paused. “They didn’t. I thought maybe you had an explanation for them going missing.”
“Oh. No. I haven’t really thought about them. Is that fucked up?”
“A little, but I like it when you’re fucked up.”
He leaned in and slipped his tongue into your mouth. You tried to let yourself fall into the moment, to let yourself be enraptured by him once more. But you felt uneasy. A part of you was screaming at you to stop. Your entire body tensed up and you pushed him away.
“Not here,” you sighed.
“Why not?” he said, rubbing the small of your back.
“What if someone sees?”
“There’s no one to see us.”
With your luck Shiraishi and Sugimoto would see you wrapped up in Ogata’s arms and never let you live it down. A greater horror would be Tsurumi catching you. He would have no issue disposing you.
Ogata didn’t share this concern. He simply shoved his fingers down your shorts and rubbed your clit through your underwear.
“You don’t need to be afraid.”
“I’m not afraid. I don’t want to get caught.”
“Hmm,” he purred as he nuzzled his face in your neck. “Getting caught could be fun. We could finally reveal our true nature.”
His wording puzzled you.
“Wait, what true nature? That we’re fucking?” you asked.
“Don’t play dumb.”
He let his fingers graze your cunt. His touch was hypnotic. You felt like you were melting in his arms. The world around you faded away, your concerns were nonexistent. Everything was a distraction queued for destruction. He kissed your neck, his stubble tickling you. You felt his teeth graze your skin. A smile crept across your face as he bit into it. Your knees buckled as he bit down a little harder. Your head was spinning.
“I need to taste you,” he said against your neck, pulling down your clothes.
The night air was brisk against the skin of your ass. He kissed the nape of your neck as he hands traveled down your waist, stopping at the dip of your hips. He got on his knees and stared up at you, eyes dark with ardor, before giving your clit a languid lick.
He lapped at your cunt like a starved animal. It was like he was trying to consume you. You felt so desired, so adored. His tongue was dizzying. You nearly lost your balance as he buried his face in between your thighs. He grunted and gripped your ass to steady you.
You gasped as he dug his fingers deeper into your skin. His sweetness was always tinged with a little cruelty. You felt like you were falling in love with him whenever he was rough with you. Your pleasure seemed endless. It was something to get lost in. He shielded you from the tragedy that had overtaken your life.
You ran your fingers through his hair. “You’re so good at this.”
“I know,” he groaned.
His haughtiness was unfortunately warranted. He could work wonders with his mouth. He rolled his tongue against your throbbing clit. Your knees trembled as your orgasm began to bloom. You tried to speak but all you could do was whimper his name. You felt like you were floating away.
Moaning soon became the only thing you were capable of doing. Your body was limp and swollen with lust. The only reason you were upright was because of Ogata’s steadying grip.
“Are you really going to come already?” he teased.
“Yes!” you choked out.
He held your clit between his lips and sucked. Your head rolled back and you murmured a string of obscenities. Euphoria wasn’t a strong enough word to describe the heights you were ascending to. You drenched his face with your arousal as your orgasm echoed through you.
“Sor—”
Your demure apology was interrupted by a pained moan coming from the distance. You crashed back down to earth.
“Did you hear that?” you asked.
Ogata didn’t respond. He simply stood up and wiped his chin.
“Let me walk you back to your cabin.”
“Uh, yeah sure. But did you hear that? It sounded like a person.”
“I didn’t hear anything. Your paranoia is getting the best of you.” He grabbed you by the hand. “Come on.”
He didn’t say a single word on the walk back. He didn’t even look at you. You felt like a ghost.
“Thanks… for escorting me.”
“It’s no problem,” he said with a smile.
You were convinced you would never fully understand him, that he would always keep you on your toes. And maybe that was the appeal. It was a danger you didn’t mind dancing with, something low stakes in comparison to people getting fucking murdered.

With my eyes closed I offered myself to the sun
It was your final day and you jumped at the opportunity to interrogate Tsurumi. It didn’t matter if you were the only one that thought he was the cause of all the camp’s calamity. The lack of faith from your friends didn’t deter you in the least. You knew you were right and soon everyone else would know as well.
“What the?”
You saw a heap in the distance, something keeled over just beyond the trees. The sun sliced through them, drowning whatever it was in unforgiving light. You heard the faint buzzing of flies and your stomach dropped. The familiar sensation of spit pooling in your mouth triggered a lethal anxiety within you.
Every step you took made you more and more nauseous. A horrid smell swarmed your nostrils. You couldn’t help but gag.
“No,” you said quietly, looking down at the heap.
It was Sugimoto, face down. His arms were stretched in front of him, fingers caked with dirt.
“Saichi, get up.” You squatted beside him. A prayer circle of jet black ants surrounded his body. “Get up. You’re supposed to keep me and Shiraishi safe, remember?”
There was no hope and yet you tried to hold onto it. You wanted to roll him over, thinking maybe you could rouse him. You saw it in movies all the time, the classic fake-out death trope. You’d slap him around, maybe yell and cry a bit, and his eyes would flutter open. He would apologize for worrying you and you’d tease him for how rank he smelled.
“Oh fuck!” you screamed as you rolled him onto his back.
His chin was coated with dried blood. His stomach had been cut open, entrails butchered and hanging out. You looked just beyond his body and saw a trail of blood and intestines. You started to sob. Sugimoto didn’t deserve to suffer such a heinous demise. Why couldn’t Tsurumi have just killed him outright? Why did he have to exercise his will with such cruelty? You hated him and his flagrant barbarity. Your rage washed over you. The desire to throw yourself over his mauled body and wail was extinguished.
“I’m so sorry,” you cooed, stroking his hair. “Tsurumi’s not getting away with this.”
In order to properly avenge Sugimoto you needed Shiraishi, but you didn’t even know if Shiraishi was alive. You grabbed Sugimoto’s pocket knife and bolted to Shiraishi’s cabin. You kicked the door in and all you saw was an unmade bed, empty bags of marshmallows, and all of his belongings scattered around an empty duffle bag.
You kept running out of sheer desperation, searching Shiraishi’s usual haunts to no avail. He must have been killed too, another counselor disappeared by that freak Tsurumi.
Your bravado began to melt away. The more you thought about it the more you realized you likely couldn’t hold your own against Tsurumi. You were nothing without the dream team.
There was always Ogata, but if Sugimoto was slain by Tsurumi with such ease then Ogata didn’t stand a chance. You were enshrouded in a sinking loneliness. It made every step an ordeal but you continued your march to Tsurumi’s cabin.
Your head was swimming by the time you got there. You didn’t even notice the door was already open. As you stepped inside you heard a series of loud, wet thwacks.
“Wh—what are you doing?”
Ogata stood over Tsurumi’s twitching body, bashing in his skull with the butt of his own shotgun. Pale foam seeped from his parted lips. You watched in horror as his face gradually became unrecognizable carnage with each of Ogata’s blows.
“Why?” you squeaked.
“What do you mean why? I did this for you.”
“This is not what I wanted.”
“Yes it is. You thought he was killing all your friends and it bothered you enough that you whined to me about it.”
“I didn’t tell you those things because I wanted you to kill him! Fuck! Now the cops are going to think you killed everyone!”
He cocked his head to the side and stared at you. You froze in place like a deer in front of a speeding truck. He looked gutted.
“I did kill everyone.”
You bursted into laughter. “No you fucking didn’t.”
“Yes I did.”
“Stop it! No you didn’t!”
He stepped over Tsurumi’s corpse, gun still in his hand. You backed out the door, trying to keep distance.
“Yes I did,” he said. In the sunlight you saw how much of Tsurumi’s blood ended up on him. He was dappled with crimson splotches. “That’s why you told me about Tsurumi. You wanted him gone and you knew I’d take care of it.”
Your mouth was agape. You refused to believe him.
“You—you’re not serious. Please tell me you’re not serious. Please.”
“I’m se—”
“No! Shut up! You didn’t do it. You didn’t do any of it. You… You couldn’t. Right? Right?!”
His disappointment was palpable.
“Why are you acting like this? You knew what you were doing when you talked to me about him.”
“I never said I wanted you to kill him! I never fucking said that!”
“Stop screaming. I’m right here.”
Your eyes were becoming glassy. Tears were imminent.
“I never said that,” you said quietly.
“You didn’t have to. I knew what you wanted. We see things the same way. You hated all of them as much as I did.”
“What? I didn’t hate any of them.”
“Oh so you liked Usami?”
“No, but that doesn’t mean I wanted him dead.”
He sighed heavily. “You don’t need to pretend anymore. They’re all gone.”
“Pretend? I’m not pretending.”
“Drop the act. I didn’t mind it before, but now there’s no reason for you to hide yourself from me.”
Everything was spinning around you. You couldn’t believe what he was saying. It was absurd for him to think you harbored as much hatred as he did. Sure, some of your fellow counselors got on your nerves, but being annoying wasn’t a death sentence.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not hiding anything.”
He tried to pat down his unruly lock of hair. “So you’re saying I’m wrong? You’re nothing like me?”
“Yes! I could never dream of being as monstrous as you! How fucked up do you have to be to decide you can just kill people for, I don’t know, being annoying or stupid or whatever?”
“It’s not like I intended on killing everyone. I just wanted Yūsaku gone, but then I caught Tanigaki and Inkarmat 69ing by the lake and it spiraled from there.”
“Th—that’s why you killed them?”
“It was disgusting, okay.”
“Was it more disgusting than what we did?”
He glared at you. “What we did wasn’t disgusting. Tanigaki and Inkarmat didn’t actually care about each other.”
“You don’t know that.”
“They barely knew each other. You can’t like someone that much after, what, a week?”
“Does that mean we don’t like each other?”
“No!” He took a measured breath and regained composure. “It’s different with us. You know me. You understand me.”
“I don’t understand you at all.”
“But you were… so nice to me.”
Neither of you spoke. The only sound was the wind cutting through the trees. You thought back to old conversations you had with him and tried to see where your ignorance blinded you. There were plenty of times you should have known it was Ogata, but you were so caught up in blaming Tsurumi for everything.
It was hard to reconcile the man you had your heart set on was a cold blooded killer. You wanted your feelings to subside, but they remained despite his horrendous crimes. Part of you needed to fix him, to save him from himself. Maybe if you had caught on sooner you could have stopped him. There were so many what-ifs running through your mind you almost forgot where you were.
“Did it not mean anything to you?” he asked.
“What?”
“Being nice to me. Was it an obligation?”
“No. I think… most people deserve kindness.”
“Even someone like me?”
You tried to ignore the shotgun in his hand. “Yes… especially you, Hyakunosuke.”
“After everything I’ve done?”
“Ye—yes.”
“Liar.”
He aimed the gun under his chin and pulled the trigger. You tried to catch him in your arms, but you weren’t strong enough to carry that weight. You fell to your knees and cradled him. His face was nothing but an open wound. You wept as his blood seeped into your clothes.
“You were never an obligation.”
You wiped away your tears and got his blood in your eye. It burned, but it was nothing compared to the sinking feeling in your heart.
“Holy shit!!”
Shiraishi came barrelling out of the woods. His lip was busted and he had dried blood under his nose.
“Are you alright? Did he hurt you? Did he touch you?”
Shiraishi kneeled in front of you. You looked down and noticed his hand was resting in what used to be Ogata’s face.
“Shiraishi, your hand.”
He fell backwards and kicked himself away from Ogata’s corpse. He wiped his hand in the dirt.
“He, uh, didn’t hurt me. I’m fine… I thought you were dead.”
“Nah. I just let him beat the shit out of me and pretended to be dead. I didn’t think he’d fall for it. Have you seen Sugimoto?”
“He… he didn’t make it.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
Shiraishi helped move Ogata off of you. He looked horrified once he saw how much of Ogata’s blood had ended up on you. The coppery scent was impossible to ignore.
You were thankful Shiraishi was still alive. He took charge for a change, deciding your best course of action was to go to the mess hall and contact the authorities. It wasn’t until you got there that he realized his phone was dead. You both sat in silence as it charged.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked after checking his battery life.
You nodded.
“Did you like Ogata?”
You didn’t want to admit it. You couldn’t imagine a world where Shiraishi would understand the complexity of your feelings. He never liked Ogata in the first place.
You tried to slaughter the sentimental romantic inside you. You thought about how mean Ogata could be, the awful things he’d say to you. You thought about Sugimoto and how he tried to drag himself to your cabin despite being gutted like a fish.
“No,” you scoffed.
Ogata was right. You were a liar.

Even though he’s making fun of it, Stiles thinks the whole thing sounds awesome and, like most stuff these days, the experience is going to be totally wasted on Scott.

“Have you heard of this Alpha?” Stiles asks, shuffling up his pallet so Scott has room to sit. Scott does with a grateful little twist of his mouth. Stefan forces him into the Stilinski ceremonial armor when they travel and Stiles can see that it’s heavy and doesn’t sit well on Scott. He can’t shift encased in metal and Stefan knows it.
“I know of him, mostly stories that seem a little fantastical. Shifters exaggerate just like common people. They like their war stories.”

Stiles hadn’t noticed the way the entire commissary had gone silent when the guy had approached his table, or the two military escorts that had been flanking him, looking at each other like maybe they should be intervening but weren’t sure how. All he saw was someone stealing the last dessert from him and Stiles didn’t think about it, he just reached across the table and snatched it back with a, “What the hell, dude?”

Beacon Hills is the kind of small town where everybody knows everybody, and what everybody knows is that surly diner owner Derek Hale and free spirited single dad Stiles Stilinski have been in love with each other for years. If only they knew it too.

No, dad. Listen to what I'm saying. Yesterday, I was eighteen. I'm not speaking metaphorically, or about the way I feel or whatever. I was eighteen, we lived in the house on Maple, the last conversation we had was about how fries didn't count as a vegetable and I, uh, wasn't married.

Stiles appreciates Derek worrying about him being overwhelmed but he really could have used a few overenthusiastic werewolves and impatient humans for his homecoming. He’s felt disconnected because of his forced isolation and would have at least liked to have had Scott on his doorstep when he got there.

It's not like he forgets about the scar. Just, sometimes it takes him off guard when he's half asleep or run down. It's there, a new companion that reminds him of the world he now lives in, how it's changed and what it's cost. Still, sometimes he'll blink at it owlishly in the mirror like he's doing now, at the way it runs alongside his collar bone and down. It even separates a mole into two neat halves.

"You... want me to come to your family reunion?"
"Yes."
"And you'll come to my best friend's wedding as...my... date?" Stiles thinks the whole proposition bears repeating.

Stiles starts looking around, like there's someone who'll rescue him from this painfully awkward situation and Derek can't blame him. All he can think is this is some kind of elaborate prank Laura is playing on him after she'd found his pile of Fangboy back copies last month.
Or, the one where Derek has to marry a human to save Clawbook and it turns out to be Stiles. He's completely doomed.

Month 14 - Newleaf
Lake’s paws ached. Her stomach growled and her head pounded dully behind her eyes. She couldn’t remember the last time she felt full. Still, she walked.
Ever since her mother had disappeared, she’d been wandering. A few cats had shared a bite with her but they didn’t have much to share in the first place. Most of them were too busy training to fight and they didn’t want her around, especially not the special cats - Exalted, she remembered hazily. She’d tried following other kits home but every time she was politely sent away.
Two days ago, she’d seen a couple cats bringing back a pair of juicy looking birds and while they hadn’t shared with her, they had told her that there was plenty of prey over the far road if she could catch it, laughing between themselves. She figured that was as good an idea as any, so she’d headed out for the wild frontier!
It was farther away than she’d thought it would be, or maybe it was just easier to get lost without roads to follow. She walked and walked and then stopped to sleep then walked some more. She was starting to wonder if there even was anything out here at all. Was she just missing it?
The sound of running water grabbed her attention and she licked her chapped lips eagerly at the thought. The kit picked up her heavy paws and bounded towards the noise. Coming out of the grass, she suddenly found herself on the edge of a stream of cool, fresh water - fresher than she’d ever seen before at least.
“Wowzers!” she declared because that seemed fitting. She waded into the stream and crouched down, gulping greedily until her stomach hurt. She thought about falling over and sleeping in the stream but worried she might drown. Instead, she decided to follow the water like it was a road and see where that took her. At the very least it would be fun to splash around.
The sky was getting dark again but Lake didn’t mind. She tromped noisily against the current of the stream, humming a song as each note came to her mind. The chill of the water kept her awake, which was nice. She wondered if she would see a fish. They lived in water, right? She hoped so. She was starving and the water she drank wasn’t helping. It honestly made her feel grosser.
Eventually the stream came upon a small hill but, instead of curving or trickling down the slope, it cut through the earth in a big metal tube. “That’s interesting,” Lake thought out loud. It was like a gutter drain but huge, big enough for a cat to walk through! She bounded up to the edge of it and sucked in a huge breath.
“Hellooooo!” she bellowed, giggling at the way it echoed off the tunnel walls. She splashed her paws in the water and listened to the magnified sound with excitement. “Blaaaaaaah! Bluh, bluh, bluh!” She snorted with laughter. This was the best fun she’d had in weeks!
“Hello?” A voice that wasn’t her own echoed back to her. She gasped. Was that possible?
“Hello?” she called back. It was hard to tell in the dark but at the end of the tunnel, she swore she saw something moving. Then a glint of eyes blinked at her, barely reflecting the moonlight in her direction.
Tumblr media
“Wowzers!” she cried, “I didn’t think I’d see anybody! Are you hunting too?”
“Yeah,” the voice said hesitantly. “How old are you?” It sounded like a boy but there were other quieter voices outside the tunnel and they were talking very serious-like.
“I’m three whole months!” Lake said. The eyes pulled away from the tunnel as the cat whispered with his friends. Lake decided she wanted to say hi up close and personal. She started towards the cat, sloshing through the stream up to her belly. Once the tunnel was all around her, the sound of her paw steps started to hurt her ears and she hurried towards the other end to get away from it.
She burst out of the other end and thumped into a pair of bony legs, falling back onto her rump with an “oof!” The cat she had run into reached out a paw to steady her. He smelled like grass and dust and his breath smelled like prey blood. It made Lake’s mouth water.
“Easy, there, kid,” the cat said. It was now that Lake looked up and got her first sight of him.
“You’re funny looking, mister!” she said. He was a skinny white and blue tabby with big ears, like a little dog, and a very pointy face.
“I could say the same about you,” he said.
She laughed. “Am I funny looking?”
“The poor thing looks half starved,” whispered one of the other cats, an equally funny looking girl with brown points on her face and feet.
“Are you out here all alone?” asked the third cat, a fluffy brown tabby boy who was much more normal looking.
“Yessir!” said Lake. “I heard there was food here. Do you guys know where the far road is?” The cats all looked at each other for a beat.
Then the first one spoke up, “Uh, no, but we do know where some food is.”
“Really?!” Lake grinned. “Can I have some?!” Her mouth was starting to fill with saliva. She slurped some of it down to avoid drooling.
“Yeah,” nodded the normal boy. “I’ll even carry you if you want.”
“Nuh, uh,” Lake shook her head. “I’m a big girl now.”
“You sure are,” said the funny looking boy. “Barleypaw, will you go grab one of the mice or something?”
“Yeah,” nodded the funny looking girl. She bounded off into the grass and Lake started after her but the funny looking boy put out a paw to stop her.
“She’s gonna be right back with the food,” he said. “You just sit.”
“Oh, okay,” shrugged Lake. “My name’s Lake. What’s your names?”
“I’m Floodpaw,” said the funny looking boy.
“Sparrowpaw,” said the normal looking boy.
“And our sister is Barleypaw,” said Floodpaw.
“Hey!” Lake gasped. “Did you know all your names rhyme?” Sparrowpaw laughed a little. Floodpaw raised one brow.
“Yeah…” he said. “Where’s your mom, kid?”
Lake frowned. “Oh, um… I don't know.”
“Oh,” said Floodpaw.
“That’s alright,” said Sparrowpaw. “Maybe you can come home with us, then.”
“Yeah?” she brightened. Was she finally gonna be able to find a new place to sleep and a new person to help her get food?
“Yeah,” said Floodpaw. “Once you’ve eaten we can go there.”
“I can’t wait!” cried Lake. “You guys are the best!” The brothers exchanged glances again. Lake wasn’t sure what it meant but she saw the sister coming back over the hill and smelled the delicious smell of meat and all other thoughts fled her brain. She scarfed the whole thing down as quickly as she could. She ate it so fast she forgot to check what kind of animal it was. By the time she finished, she realized she felt very sick to her stomach.
“Oh…” she said. “I think I ate too fast…”
“That’s alright,” said Sparrowpaw, “Are you sure you don’t want me to carry you?”
She nodded, cheeks full of breath as she tried to stifle her nausea.
“Alright, come on then,” Floodpaw said, stretching. “Why don’t we go back to camp? I bet a nice walk will help you feel better.”
“Okay,” mumbled Lake. She didn’t feel like walking. She felt like falling over and never moving again. She didn’t like saying no to people, though, so she forced herself to take a few steps.
Floodpaw tilted his funny looking head and said, “I dunno, maybe we should just sit for a while.” Lake sighed a little in relief. “Yeah, why don’t you guys go gather the prey and tell somebody about Lake and I’ll chill here with the kid until she feels like walking.”
“Are you sure?” asked Barleypaw. “We’re awfully close to the border.”
“It’ll be fine,” he said, flopping down in the grass. “Worst comes to worse, I'll grab the kid and go.”
“Alright…” said Sparrowpaw, looking unconvinced. He and Barleypaw started off into the grass, looking back over their shoulders and whispering to each other. Lake let out a big sigh and eased herself into the grass next to Floodpaw.
“Thanks,” she said, closing her eyes. “I don’t feel very good.” She swallowed, her sides heaving under the distress of her sick tummy.
“No problem,” smiled Floodpaw. “Barleypaw and Sparrowpaw are always like ‘go, go, go, let’s follow the rules’ or whatever but I get just wanting to lie down.”
“Yeah,” Lake smiled wide and wiggled into a more comfortable position. “I like laying down!”
“Me too,” laughed Floodpaw, dropping his head onto the ground too. “So, what are you doing out here, Lake?”
“Looking for food!” Lake purred. Her stomach gurgled loudly and she giggled a bit. “Thanks for sharing it with me.”
“Yeah, no problem,” said Floodpaw, one ear flicking away the gnats buzzing by. “But why are you looking for food all the way out here? You’re from the city aren’t you?”
“Oh, yeah, I am,” Lake nodded, peeking her eyes open at him. “Some cats told me there was food out here. I was really hungry. Plus it sounded fun to try.”
“Don’t other cats bring you food?” he asked, brows furrowed.
“Nah,” she sighed. “Not since Mother went missing.”
The crease in his funny, pointy face deepened. “Still, there wasn’t anybody else who helped you out?”
“Um…” Lake frowned too. “No. I’m sorry.” Was she answering wrong? Why was he upset?
“Oh, no, hey,” he said quickly, “It’s okay, I’m not mad, I’m just-” His skinny little tail twitched. “I just think it’s not cool that no one looked out for you.”
“They’re busy I guess,” Lake shrugged. They were learning to fight or taking care of their own kits. She didn’t blame any of them for not having time for her.
“Well, here we take care of kittens,” Floodpaw said firmly, “no matter who they are.” Lake smiled and hid her nose in her paws shyly. Floodpaw laughed and stretched his big, long legs out in opposite directions. “Take a little nap, kid. I’ll keep watch.”
“Okay,” she said and yawned. She hadn’t realized how tired she was until he said something but now, with her belly full, she was eager to get some shut eye. Feeling very round and sluggish, she closed her eyes and quickly drifted off to sleep.
~~~
When Lake woke up it was very, very dark. She yawned and stretched and looked around, realizing that she was in a totally new place. She stiffened in fright. Where was she? The not knowing was scarier than any answer she could come up with.
She was in a large den made of dirt, it seemed, in a nest of soft green moss and feathers. It smelled faintly of other cats, cats she didn’t know.
Carefully, she got to her paws and crept towards the scent of night air, poking her head out to see a small grassy dip with a few other burrows tucked under big, grey stones. Three cats were sitting on top of a big, flat stone and talking softly. They didn’t seem dangerous so Lake ventured a bit further out to look around in wonder.
“Wowzers,” she breathed. Everything here smelled so fresh and green. She’d never experienced anything like it.
One of the cats, a dark blue bengal girl, perked up at the sound and looked her way. “Oh, hey! She’s awake!”
“Shh,” hushed a brown spotted tabby girl nervously.
“Right, sorry,” said the first girl, lowering her volume a bit. “Hey, girlie, how you feelin’?”
Lake realized she was supposed to answer and said, “I’m good. How did I get here?”
“They carried you in while you were sleeping,” said the third cat, a paler spotted tabby boy. Lake frowned. She had wanted to walk.
“I bet you’re pretty confused,” said the first girl. “Why don’t you come up here and sit with us? We can answer any questions you have.”
“Um, I’m okay,” said Lake. “Where’s the guy with the funny ears?”
“Huh?” asked the first girl.
The boy brightened in realization. “Oh, you mean Floodpaw.”
“Yeah!” Lake bounced. That was his name!
“He’s sleeping over there,” he said, pointing to one of the holes in the ground.
“Okay, thanks!” said Lake. She started towards the hole to go see him. The second girl breathed in sharply through her teeth and the first girl laughed.
The boy started to say, “Oh, uh, I don’t know if-” but the first girl interrupted him.
“Shh, let her be. It’ll be funny.”
Lake didn’t know what they were talking about but she didn’t let it bother her. She made her way into the den. Five cats were sleeping in their nests; two smaller ones were curled up together and Floodpaw and the other cats she had met were sleeping near each other but not so close that they were touching. Lake padded right up to Floodpaw and settled down against his side. He opened his eyes and lifted his head groggily, blinking at her a few times before he managed to speak.
“Hey, kid, what are you doing in here?” he mumbled hoarsely.
“Looking for you,” she whispered. “Why did you carry me? I wanted to walk.”
“Oh,” he said with a small groan. He swiped his tongue over his whiskers and rubbed an eye with his paw. “It was getting really late and I didn’t want to wake you. Sorry, kid.”
“Mmm, it’s okay,” she decided, purring. She wiggled down into his nest and closed her eyes again.
“Oh, uh…” he hesitated for a moment before eventually wrapping his tail around her and laying his head back down to sleep. Lake purred even harder. She’d missed sleeping next to somebody like this.
She hoped that wherever her mother was, she had found someone new to sleep beside too.
UPDATES: - While on patrol with Barleypaw and Sparrowpaw, Floodpaw finds an abandoned kit named Lake and takes her back to camp.
  sitting atop of the old hill in the town park he cried and wailed with flowers clutched in his hands. you being the kind and gentle spirit you were, went up to ask him what was wrong, to which he responded “i don’t know”. usually when people see heeseung they don’t mistake him for human. your approach startled him a bit, even more so when you grabbed his cold dead hands and drew him into a hug.
  you run your fingers through his hair and tell him everything is gonna be okay. then, you took him out to eat. of course you two got a few stares—holding hands with a banshee tends to draw in attention—but you seemed not to notice. you hold his hand and listen to his sorrows. you caress his cheek and you don’t flinch at the lack of body heat, paying no mind to the coldness that surely makes your hands freeze slightly.
  mourning death all his life, he finds your kindness and comfort refreshing.
  your boyfriend is a bit pessimistic. he looks at the glass half empty rather than half full. like when you watched coraline for the first time and he cried for half the movie believing there was no way she’d make it out of the beldam‘s hands alive. or when he sulked for half a day because he felt the sad lady from next door would never find love, resulting in the death of her love life. you told him to keep his head up and a week later, she comes into your home, bringing cookies and talking about a handsome man she met two nights prior. heeseung supposes there are some happy endings. but even so, he’s sweet and sings you songs all the time. his favorite thing to do is sing you lullabies and watch your sleep consume you. you look so beautiful while you dream, he wishes he could be in your dreams with you. he wonders what you dream about. he wonders if your dreams are as beautiful as you are. you like to take him on happy adventures and show him the world is not as bleak and depressing as it seems. you did make the mistake of taking him to a theme park, more specifically the rollercoaster, where he cried and called it a big death and torture machine. even if you left him outside he refused to let you ride it by yourself, certain that you’d fly out and die (he saw it on the news). needless to say that was the last time you went to six flags…disney world was fun though! you try to make him try new things as much as possible. heeseung finds it exciting. he looks forward to your little rendezvous.
  he still cries and wails, mourns death every sunday at the top of the old hill, but after all his pain and anguish has been tossed into the atmosphere, he comes home to your warm and loving arms, where you hold him with love.
jay- ghost
  you knew your house was haunted. you knew the moment you walked in with the realtor.  would that stop most people from renting a house? absolutely. did it stop you? no.
  the house was dirt cheap and you really needed a place to stay after your ex boyfriend kicked you out of the house. your parents are 900 miles away and you’ll be damned if a little ghost made you sleep in boxes on the street until you could get a plane ticket.
  jay’s first attempt to scare you ended in a scoff. you laughed at him. how insulting. but it doesn’t get any better when he ramps up the scare factor. he’ll get you to jump, maybe a tiny shriek, only for you to come back and be like “wow that one was really good you’re getting better” with a smile etched into your face. seriously, what the hell was wrong with you? why was it so hard to scare you out of his house? he tried everything from making your dishes fly to making the lights flicker to making you see visions of dead people but nothing worked. he even flinged your knives into the wall (not that he would ever physically hurt you but perhaps if you thought he would you’d finally leave…you did not).
  one night though, he shows you his face through the bathroom mirror. instead of a scream, you swoon, clasping your hands together across your chest. you call him handsome and beg to see him again. you beg for days and days. it tires him out, so he appears again. he’s much taller than you, which has you giggling and twirling your hair before you offer him a shy “hi”. he thinks you’re insane.
  your ghost boyfriend has now devoted his already dead life to protecting you from other supernatural entities. once, a goblin came into your house unannounced and…well jay didn’t take too kindly to that. he gets jealous when you have friends over. perhaps it’s the fact that your friends have physical bodies to touch you. not that you can’t feel his touch, but it’s not the same. he also just doesn’t like mortals entering his property, and he’s now extended that possessiveness to you. he’s still sweet though. watches over you while you sleep to make sure no demons come by. most creatures that come by don’t expect jay to be so tough and intimidating–he’s just a ghost–but they always end up leaving the house in fear, trembling. he has a habit of sneaking up on you to tickle you, the sound of your laughter that once filled him with rage now fills him with glee. he wishes he could feel you better, but still, he loves the touch of your skin. his favorite time to see you is in your dreams, where you are both on equal planes. he can feel your soft hands, kiss your pretty lips, and have normal dates with you. it’s also great that he can defy laws of reality.
  jay has been dead for years and years now, but having you in his home makes him feel alive once more.
jake- angel
  you meet jake while he’s on a thrilling adventure exploring the mortal world. he bumps into you at the mall, knocking you over. of course, being the literal angel that he is, he helps you up. you’re just a small fragile human—he could’ve killed you for goodness sake! (he couldn’t have but he still believes he could’ve)— he calls you gorgeous, as he failed to realize that most humans tend to restrain from saying every thought that comes to their mind, no matter how good the thought may be. but to his luck, you blush and say thank you and he thinks you’re the cutest flower he’s ever seen. you give him your number on the back of a receipt and jake is too ecstatic to realize…ah…he doesn’t have a phone.
  he buys one just for you though! and after that you two are inseparable. jake being the literal angel that he is, takes care of you like his life depends on it. your sick? jake’s here. hard time with school? jake’s here. your friend’s being a bitch? jake will be there to listen intently to allll your drama, and not just because he’s a little nosy.
  of course, he’s begged god to make him your guardian angel, to which god reluctantly agreed, so long as he does not take his guardian duties too far or too lightly. there’s also monthly check-ins with the head guardian angels to make sure jake doesn’t go too far. you ask him if it’s too much of a burden, to which he smiles and tells you he couldn’t be happier.
  he’s still a bit naive when it comes to humans. he doesn’t often think that human beings can be so cruel and evil, but when he witnesses this firsthand, he’s worried about you! what if you fall victim to these cruel and heinous creatures! his fragile little flower…he’d never forgive himself. he protects you with his life. he asks you a great many questions about human beings and their history, what they’re like and such. you think it’s cute. jake is so sweet it makes your teeth ache.
 the first time he shows you his wings you’re in awe of the way they span across his back. they’re big enough to be a makeshift shield. his beautiful pure white feathers are soft to the touch. you run your fingers along the point in which his wings sprout from his back only for jake to laugh and fall to the floor. ah, he’s ticklish. he loves to hold you with his wings and shield you from the world. just the two of you together. per his guiding duties, he’s a little bossy. he tries to steer you away from bad decisions and protect your pure innocent eyes from seeing horrendous things, which you appreciate, but you also wish he would let you go crazy and stupid. you know, for the plot.
  your cute angel boyfriend may think you to be the most delicate dove in the whole world, but you also can’t help but hold him close to prevent him from flying away. he holds you against him with his wings covering over you so you can rest easy. he’s not going anywhere.
sunghoon- siren
  sunghoon has no intention of drawing anybody into his waters, but when he sees you on the sand he can’t help but stare. when you lock eyes with him, he knows it’s wrong to tempt and tease you, but he’s selfish by nature and he wants you all to himself. you must forgive him for this.
  you are his most valuable treasure.
  when you’ve submerged yourself into the water and make it to his arms, he sings to you. he holds you tightly and carries you across the waves and you both fall in love together in the deep, salty waters that you don’t even realize you’re in right now. he brings you back to the sand, kisses your legs and hands all the way up to you forehead, but your lips are left lonely. he makes you a promise. till death do you part and you shall see him again.
  surprisingly enough, the next time you see sunghoon is on land with two legs. of course, you question him and he laughs at your innocence, “yes, my love, i can walk”. the shocked expression on your face is too cute. he kisses your nose and you shyly hide yourself in his chest. he finds the way your cheeks heat up magical. sunghoon is a siren that hides upon humans before he makes his way back to his home sweet home, the chilling sea.
  dating sunghoon obviously entails walks on the beach while the sun sets. he loves watching the moon rise with you, loves the way you look when the light hits your pretty face. he always sings you songs. karaoke at least twice a week is definitely a must. he loves hearing your voice too, whether you’ve been singing for 15 years or 5 months, he loves it. he loves to tease you. loves the way he can fluster you just by staring at you for a bit too long. it gives him a huge ego boost. the way you melt into his touch makes him sore, he feels like he’s become a creature of the land, sea, and sky. when he does go back into his waters, he misses you. longs for the hours in which he can see you again. he loves when you visit him so he can swim with you and hold you for just a bit longer. you find that sunghoon likes to be up at night. you find that usually he comes to you in the late afternoon or at night. he brings you beautiful jewelry and treasures. pearl necklaces and pearl embroidered dresses. gorgeous hand held mirrors and diamond earrings. how he obtained the items is something you don’t have to worry your pretty little head about. he loves to spoil you rotten. when you do see him during the day, he just wants to cuddle up against you and rest.
  being lovers of different domains is hard, but to sunghoon, loving you is the easiest thing he’s ever done. to him, you’re more valuable than all the jewels in the world combined.
sunoo- dragon
  you should not be in this cavern alone all by yourself. this you know, but cannot bring yourself to care. you’re far too curious to stop now. but when you’re deep into the cavern, you see something glow in the distance. you walk closer, too close, and you hear a loud growl. which makes you jump back. there that stares as you is a fierce dragon. he inches closer and closer to you as you tremble in fear. he asks what you’re after, to which you panicked and told him you were just nosy and thought this was where your peers were meeting to share their secrets.
  he looks at you quizzically and sighs before he turns into a much smaller man.
  although he’s still bigger than you, almost towers over you and his shoulder span is twice as big as yours, it’s still much less anxiety-inducing than a big fire breathing dragon.
  especially because he’s gorgeous.
  he gives you a death glare that has your knees weak. he rolls his eyes at your shameless display of attraction before he takes your hand and pulls you, guiding you out of the cavern. to sunoo’s surprise, you keep talking. you ask him questions, ask him about what he does, tell him about your life, and sunoo would like to say he doesn’t care, but he does. a lot. when he leads you out, you promise him you’ll be back. he gives no visible reaction, but inside he smiles a little bit. your warm his heart.
  your boyfriend would describe human beings as incompetent and selfish beings—minus you, of course—and you tell him he should be more open minded, but sunoo has dealt with (and severely injured) a great many humans that don’t know their place. you think it’s cute. you call him your hot emo boyfriend, something sunoo thinks is annoying and corny but he endures it for you. he’s snappy, takes no shit. he’s more patient with you, but the average worthless human being that tried it with him? it takes everything in him not to burn their eyebrows off. thank god he has you. if not, he’d probably burn your city to the ground. he’s also grateful, but concerned that you find his temper attractive. perhaps he should send you to a therapist.
  his favorite thing is when you think you’re being sneaky and you creep in his cavern while he’s sleeping and slip yourself between his body and his tail and cuddle up against him, falling asleep until he wakes you up. he finds it adorable. he loves to guard you with his tail. loves how safe and secure you feel around him. despite what others might think, sunoo is incredibly caring. before you leave the house he makes sure you’ve got yourself together. tidies up and smooths out your clothes, tucks your hair behind you ear if it’s down and makes sure it’s out of your face. he cooks for you, cleans with you, and makes sure you’re safe and happy.
  although sunoo usually hates being disturbed, he’s glad you woke him up that day. because of you, he always has something to look forward to. and if he can help it, for the rest of your day’s you’ll always have someone to protect you…and someone to burn the hair off your enemies.
jungwon- fairy
  the leaves and sticks crunch beneath your feet and you find a place in the forest where the sun’s light seems to beam down brighter than the rest of the forest. the sun feels nice on your skin. you take in the smooth air and breath out, content.
  when you turn around, you see a man with beautiful translucent wings that glitter yellow, but the tips of his wings are pink. he looks at you wide eyed. his smiles before he runs up to you, taking you in his arms and spinning you around, “oh my god, a human! you’re sososososososo cute~~”, he goes on and on excitedly. he sits you on his lap, inspecting every aspect of you from your cute little nose to your pretty eyes to how ticklish you are. you truly are the most adorable thing he’s ever laid his eyes on. unfortunately–or fortunately, i should say–because of fairies interest in humans, he’s decided that you are his human and his only, like a little kitten he gets to love and take care of! it’s a dream come true.
  he takes you deeper into his side of the forest, where jungwon’s fairy friends come up to you both and ask about you in awe. when they try to touch you though, he swats them away and hisses at them…you had no idea fairies had fangs… .when you tell him you must go home, his face falls for a second before he smiles again and says you may go, so long as he get to go with you. and when his wings flutter happily and he’s bouncing, how could you say no?
  although jungwon has declared that you are his cute little human that he shall protect and care for, outside of the forest, you find yourself being the one watching over him. you no longer allow candy in the house because if it’s in a 10 mile radius jungwon will eat it all, resulting in a very sugar high fairy bouncing off your walls. before jungwon had a concept of human society, he went inside of a candy store and ransacked the place…never had you imagined yourself in a police station like this. it didn’t help that jungwon kept asking the cops about scary criminal stories and why and what a taser was for. they ended up letting him go on a warning. being around a lot of humans is also very exciting for jungwon…but he had no concept of personal space. he used to go up to random people and inspect them, pointing out his observations to you. he did this especially when he saw pretty humans, which made you a little jealous but he assured you that you were the prettiest, most adorable human in the world.
  in the forest, he is much more protective and possessive. no other fairy is allowed within 10 feet of you and touching you is a crime punishable by death. though, he doesn’t like other humans touching you either, he’s more lenient with them. one unlucky human tried to kiss your cheek and almost got his face bitten off…never happened again. and of course, he takes you flying across the sky.
  to jungwon, you are the most precious thing in the world, his most prized possession from the moment he met you. and although he believes your his little baby, you know he’s just as much your baby as you are his.
niki- vampire
  niki is very clumsy for a vampire, if he’s being honest.
  he’s trying hard to beat the edward allegations, but perhaps he should learn how to prioritize because while he’s growling and tearing up in the woods, ripping bark off trees to chew on to dull the ache in his teeth he makes eye contact with a very pretty person, watching him in awe. awkwardly, he spits the bark out of his mouth, his glowing red eyes still looking at you. he tries to think of anything to ease the tension, so he asks you if you come here often. to his surprise, you say yes. you ask why he’s chewing tree bark to which he, embarrassed, says “i’m teething..”
  you coo.
  you come up to him and ask to see his fangs. you ask him if it hurts. he kicks the dirt under his shoes and nods. he licks them and takes a blood substitute for kids box out of his pocket.
  you think he’s so cute. he thinks it’s annoying how you’re cooing at him when you’re a foot shorter than him but he loves the positive attention. you drag him to a target. he notes how small your hand is in his and squeezes it a little harder. you take him to the wooden spoons. you give him one to chew on and take him back to the checkout, where you scan it out and pay. now he shouldn’t have to rip the bark off trees. niki promises to repay you, writing his phone number in your phone before he takes off because his mom was gonna kill him for being out at 1 in the morning.
  niki loves to visit you at your window at night. he’ll tap on it lightly and wait for you to answer. he asks how you are, if you’re safe and if any other vampires have tried to mess with you, to which you giggle and tell him no. he loves to sit and cuddle with you, of course he prefers to be big spoon, but if you pout and say please he’ll give you anything you ask, even if little spoon is embarrassing for him. you spend a good amount of time teasing him, but when he teases you back, suddenly, you’re quiet and he loves it. he loves to pinch your cheeks and carry you on his back. he loves knowing you can depend on him. niki’s very soft with you so you often forget he possesses superhuman strength. a man made the mistake of putting his arm around you and ended up in the hospital with broken ribs once… .he gets shy asking if he can feed off you. he feels bad about it even when you assure him it’s fine. after he’s done, he makes sure you’re taken care of. licks your wounds to the speed up the healing process and gives you a little snack with juice before he cuddles you and soothes you to sleep.
  niki’s very clumsy for a vampire, but his love and devotion to you comes to him as naturally as breathing does. he will love you till the end of time.
you had been welcome by a hostess who offered you a cold champagne flute. the busy atmosphere made it hard for you to spot your acquaintances, but luckily, you could see max and charles across the room. the monegasque was listening attentively to the dutchman, who was explaining something to him (very) passionately.
the notification sounds of your phone caught your attention. your sister jolie, who you had been trying to find, was texting you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
léa had always been complicated and you were sure that if it had been anyone else, things would have been a lot easier. it all started when you told her you were leaving monaco to study abroad. you had handled it privately and you did not tell her about your plans until everything was already decided. léa wanted you to be by her side and she did not take well the news. she started acting cold, not responding to your texts in days and she wouldn't answer your calls. somehow she had made you feel like you had betrayed her. and when you left, you decided to leave this friendship behind.
almost two years later, you had been told that léa was dating your ex-boyfriend, which caught you by surprise. she had never shown interest in charles, not in that way at least. she had been friendly with him while you were dating, but they never were close. not that you knew.
"hey, y/n". you heard someone call your name from behind. "you look gorgeous".
you turned around, knowing it was max just by the sound of his voice. he was wearing a black suit that fitted him perfectly. he looked handsome, more than how he usually did.
"hi max". you said smiling at him.
"i saw you standing here alone and i was wondering if you wanted to join us". he said and pointed at charles and lando, who had recently joined the conversation.
"yes, i'd love to". you replied. max put out his hand to you and you took it as he guided you to where your friends were. "i think we're seated together. for the dinner, i mean".
"yeah, arthur sent charles a picture of the seating chart". he explained and you chuckled. arthur and jolie were truly made for each other. "you know you can count on me if you want to run away again".
"is it too soon now?". you asked and he laughed.
"yeah, i think we're gonna have to wait a bit".
· · · · ·
the dinner went surprisingly well. max, who sat next to you, kept the conversation going, making sure he included you so you wouldn't feel left out. jolie and arthur joined him, explaining childhood memories you shared. lando listened to the three of them and actively participated in it. it was obvious that léa and charles felt the most uncomfortable. for the whole dinner, léa tried to pretend like you didn't exist, never looking at you or engaging when the conversation revolved around you and speaking directly to charles instead. the monegasque, on the other hand, listened to his friends, but kept checking on his girlfriend. if you could only talk to léa and solve this, but it wouldn't be that easy.
· · · · ·
save your tears by the weeknd was playing, drink in hand, you danced to the beat. the alcohol had started to have its effect on you, clouding your mind and helping you loosen up. from the dance floor, you could see charles and léa who were outside talking.
"they've been arguing for like an hour". arthur said from behind and you turned around to face him. "i don't get them".
"what do you mean?". you asked.
"i don't think charles is in love with her, at least from what i've seen". he explained. "you know, i can't help but compare it to how he acted when you were dating. look, i know it's not the same, since he's not a teenager anymore, but- i don't know, he just looks uninterested".
"arthur, y/n!". you heard lando call out. "come here! shoots!".
max, lando, carlos, alex and jolie waited for you, shoot in hand, to join them. a few shoots after, laughter and chatter filled the atmosphere. alex and lando danced to the music, attracting the attention from all of the group. max had moved to by your side to let his friends dance comfortably.
"you should go join them". you said and max smiled at you. god, he was so attractive when he smiled.
"only if you do too". he replied. you guessed he thought you wouldn't want to join them, but he was wrong, you craved a bit of chaos.
"right, let's go!".
you grabbed his right hand and brought him closer to his friends. his left hand found its way to the end of your back as you pulled him closer to you. you could tell dancing wasn't his thing, but he loosened up as he moved his body with yours. you could feel his breath on your neck and it gave you goosebumps, but you could also feel the stares of the attendees looking at the two of you.
"everyone's starring". you pointed out.
"let them". he whispered in your ear.
you chuckled at his words, trying to hide the real effect these had on you. he spun you around and held you closer. his masculine cologne filled your lungs and your heart started racing. you would've stayed a long time in his arms, but you saw charles storm into the room and you separated from max. charles came directly towards you.
"i'm leaving". charles announced, without giving any explanations.
"hey, charles!". you said to stop him from moving. "and léa?".
"honestly, i don't care". he replied, shrugging his shoulders. "good night, y/n. max, take care of her".
charles left the event in a rush, without saying goodbye to his acquaintances. he was angry, you could tell, otherwise he would have never acted like that with his girlfriend, and that worried you. you couldn't understand what was going on.
"i think i'm gonna find léa". you told max. "i can't stay here without knowing if she's alright".
"i'll go too".
you searched every single room of the building, from the bathrooms to the staff only rooms, and, ten minutes after, you spotted léa. she was sitting in the cold on the staircase of the back the building. her head rested on her knees and her arms hugged her legs. you looked at max, who replicated your worried face expression, and came closer to her.
"léa, hey, are you okay?". you asked crouching down to face her. max, who had been holding your hand for the whole time, didn't let go of it.
"don't". she said. her eyes were teary and her face red. you could tell she had been crying. "everything was fine and you came and wrecked it all. you should leave monaco again".
those words struck through you like a knife and froze you in place. you didn't understand what was the reason behind her words, but you didn't have the courage to ask. max pulled your arm softly, helping you stand up again.
"let's leave, y/n". max said. "don't waste your time".
sleeping beauty.
billy lenz x gn!reader | nsfw | con!noncon, somnophilia, thigh fucking
a/n: in this, there’s pre-established kink rules, such as when he can and cannot fuck you while you sleep, but i explain it anyways. just letting you know.
billy was quiet. he was a looming figure in the dark, casting a long shadow over where you laid in bed, the shape stretching across your sleeping form.
billy hadn’t been feeling too good. he had been cooped up in the attic. he didn’t usually sleep there anymore. you had been so kind to him, so soft and caring. you provided him his own bed, his own blankets, his own space to be himself downstairs with the rest of society. the house was big enough for the two of you. you had spare rooms, you had extra food, you had everything billy needed to be a “normal” person. but he wasn’t. he still had days where he crept back up into the attic, hiding away like a rat, scratching at the floorboards and watching you through holes like he used to. he liked the dark, he liked being isolated, he liked being able to tear at his skin and writhe on the floor and spit the most vile words in the comfort of his own… home? room? floor? whatever the attic was to him.
but at some point, he needed to slink his way back down that ladder, he always did. and he always found himself back here, back in your presence.
billy stared at you. you were so unlike him. you were smooth, sweet, soft and plump. like a marshmallow. he reached down, pressing his fingers into the surface of your skin, and watching the indents form. the way his fingertips sunk down against your flesh, it made him feel like he could keep pushing and you’d consume him. he’d love it. he wished he could crawl into your body and stay there, safe and sound inside of your rib cage, right next to your heart. he’d listen to the beating to lull himself to sleep. usually that’s what he did. usually he fell asleep right next to you, skipping over his own bed out of preference for laying with you and cuddling against your chest, listening to the thumping of your heartbeat. today was different.
you shifted in your sleep, rolling over slightly so that your front was more exposed to his prying eyes. billy licked his lips, running his fingers down your arm and over all the hills and valleys of your body. he was hunched over you now, drool dripping down his chin and threatening to land on you. he almost worried that if it did, it would sizzle against your warm skin. he was so cold, and you were so hot. it almost burned to touch you. but it felt so good.
“s-sleeping… sleeping beauty…” he rasped out. he stepped up, until his knees were pressed to the edge of the bed, and grabbed the blanket resting over your bottom half. he was slow as he pulled it down, almost teasing himself. his hands shook as more and more of your skin was exposed. your tummy, then your hips, then your thighs… he followed the blanket with his eyes until there was nothing left covering you. except, your clothes, of course. you had fallen asleep in a baggy old shirt, and some nice panties with a little lace. no pants, he noted, which was good for him. you both had a rule; if billy was rowdy at night and needed you, and you weren’t wearing any pyjama bottoms, he was allowed to play. if you had been, he’d have been barred from touching your delectable form. but you weren’t, so he didn’t have to think of such horrible circumstances.
his fingers darted back up to hook a finger under your waistband, licking his lips hungrily yet again. you didn’t move. you breathed slow and steady, so innocently unaware of the need you instilled in this man. he felt dirty, like a filthy pervert, like he was doing something wrong- but he wasn’t. because you loved it. you wouldn’t have made the rule if you didn’t, you wouldn’t have made sure to wear the sexiest little pair of underwear and expose so much if you didn’t want to tempt him just a little. and it worked.
he leaned down, running his cold hands over your stomach, pushing the fabric of your shirt up so he could reach further up to your chest. his cheek pressed down into your hip, and he groped what he could, a soft moan coming from him. he felt so naughty. the fact he was rock hard against his jeans, just from barely touching you, made him feel like a little slut. he might’ve called you that a lot, hissing it through his teeth and spitting it at you without much control, but it was all a deflection. he was a whore. a whore for you.
he got lost in your scent. it felt like his head was swimming. he pressed his face further into your flesh, moaning out again as he moved to grind against his free palm. now with one hand groping your chest, and the other wrapped around his clothed bulge, he licked at your skin. it made a groan fall past his teeth, and he grazed them over you. he couldn’t help his noises. you felt like a pillow. you felt like everything he had ever wanted. he pressed his teeth down into your hip, and he couldn’t stop the sounds from spilling out of his throat.
there he was now, rutting like a dog against his own hand, licking and biting over any expanse of skin of yours he could find, and letting out guttural and coarse moans into the silent room. and you barely stirred. with every bite, you twitched slightly, and when he rubbed his cheek against the wet spot he created, you would shift slightly as if being moved, but you didn’t wake. he wondered what you dreamed of. he wanted it to be him. he wanted you to be thinking of only him, because that’s what he did. that’s all he ever thought about, and it drove him crazy.
he slid his face down to one of your thighs, pressing into the cushiony flesh there, muffling his groaning and gurgling. his tongue licked a long stripe up towards your sex, and he whimpered when he felt you shudder against him. your legs fell open more. he could barely take it. the way you opened up for him, spread for him, revealed yourself to him as if you were some budding flower. it rocked him. his cock twitched in his pants. it ached. he couldn’t take much more. your skin was so intoxicating. you were the only one who let him touch you, let him explore you, and it was overwhelming.
he gathered himself up, standing back to his hunched position. his breath was heavy and hot, panting, and spit ran down his lips and chin from where he had been mouthing along your body. you looked so pretty in the moonlight.
he reached down, fumbling to take himself out of his jeans. he walked around to the other side of the bed, crawling in behind you while he held his cock in his hand. he laid down right behind you. his chest was against your back, his arms wrapped around your middle so that he could grab at your chest, and his face found its way into the crook of your neck. he breathed in deep. he wanted to be surrounded by you. he was as close as he could get like this, and yet he still wanted to be closer.
he started by rubbing himself against your butt. the fabric of your panties felt surprisingly smooth against his shaft. he whimpered quietly into your shoulder, muttering soft words into your ear. “sleeping beauty… sleeping slut… my slut, all mine… so sweet… feel billy’s cock…? feel it? s’hard… hard for you… hard for billy’s slut… can’t help it…” billy mumbled all this as he began a steady pace against you. he moaned low, open mouth finding your neck again, and sucking on it gently. you stirred a bit, letting out the softest of moans in your sleep. it made him shake. he wanted to hear more of you. he wanted to corrupt whatever sweet dreams you were having, and replace them with the same filthy wants he had.
his hands ran over your front, groping and squeezing what he could find. your chest, your stomach, your thighs, your crotch. he grabbed as much as he could, as if it was going to disappear if he didn’t. and all the while, his hips pressed into yours in a steady rhythm, humping you from behind like the dirty boy he was. his hot breath hit your neck, and muffled obscenities spilled out against the side of your throat.
“piggy… p-piggy, billy needs you… billy needs you so bad… so filthy, such a filthy billy… such a clean piggy… sleeping piggy… sleeping beauty… please, please, please…” he had learned please usually got him what he wanted, that’s something you had made sure to teach him. it wouldn’t work much now, while you were asleep and unaware, but he tried. the words came out like a chant, always keeping in line with the thrusting of his hips. at some point, they stuttered, and his cock managed to slip in between your thighs and press up against your warmth. it made him mewl, his body curling even further around your own as he paused his movements.
he was panting. his hair was a mess, his hands gripping hard at your torso to keep him grounded. he pulled his face away from you, a string of drool connecting the hickeys on your neck to his mouth, like some sick form of evidence. he licked at his lips and stared down at you, still asleep. he leaned down and licked over your cheek affectionately. he needed more. just a little more, and then he’d leave you be.
with this new position, he began to slide his cock in and out of your thighs. the few tentative movements made his body quake. his hands squeezed into your flesh again, his eyes squeezing shut to focus on the immense pleasure he was getting. he was so sensitive, torturing himself in that attic for the past few days, starving himself of your touch. so even though all he was doing was fucking your thighs, and rubbing his tip up against your panties and over your heat, it felt as though he was fucking heaven itself. it made him squirm, his groans and grumbles spilling out without thought. it was like breathing to him right now. he gasped and rocked his hips, trying to push deeper into that pillowy feeling you were providing him. even while you slept, you were so good to him. so good.
his body had found its way against you again. he wrapped around you, his legs tangling with your own, his chest heaving against your back. his mouth found your jaw and your neck, and he gave sloppy kisses to each spot. his hands rested on your waist, gently moving your hips back into him every once in awhile, just to provide that extra bit of leverage.
he breathed deep, breathed in you, and it made him moan long and low. “p-piggy… piggy slut… take my cock, take it. take it. my good sleeping slut. you need it… i need it… billy needs you, he needs you… please… so close, so close… billy’s close…” he pushed out, his hips getting faster.
he came with a wheeze, his thrusts turning into harsh snaps against you. ropes of hot cum spilled over your underwear and thighs while he milked every last drop out of himself. he felt like he was on fire, and every bit of his skin touching yours was burning hotter and hotter. he pulled his body away fully, having to lay against the bed away from you for a moment to catch his breath. his dick softened against his stomach, his eyes fluttering as he laid in the glow of it all. you were so perfect to him. such a good slut for him. he let his breathing steady before sitting up and surveying the damage he had caused.
sure, your thighs were a mess, but… he liked how it looked. the white contrasted your skin so nicely. it was like an accessory. you liked those, he thought. so he left it. instead of cleaning you with his tongue like he usually would, he opted for stripping himself down into his own usual sleep wear, his boxers and nothing else, and he spooned you yet again. this time more innocent, as if you were a teddy bear he couldn’t bear to part with. he drifted off so easily, satiated for the night.
when you woke up the next morning to his soft breathing, the now cold mess against your legs, and the bruises littering your middle and neck, you were a little confused. you wondered how you managed to be such a heavy sleeper sometimes, and were slightly disappointed with missing out on the fun you knew billy had had, but… something in you felt good. good to know he was back with you, and good to know he had found some relief. you’d use this as an excuse to shower with him later anyways, and you’d get your pleasure when that time came. but for now, you stored that thought away, and just enjoyed billy being with you.
you rolled over so you faced him, not caring about the mess down below spreading onto him, as you nuzzled into his chest. you peeked up through your eyelashes, seeing his content expression, and sighed. he looked so pretty, like that.
just like sleeping beauty, you thought.
Chapter 3: Foolish
Last chapter ~ Next chapter
Words: 850
My darling,
Is it silly to write to you while residing in the place? Quite possibly. But is this the best way to speak with you with my whole heart without anyone over hearing. The difficulty of being such an important figure. Always under observation. Someone is always listening. A sealed letter is the best way for us to communicate undetected.
I’m still reliving the moment you stepped onto the castle grounds again. The way you looked, enchanting as always. I forgotten how beautiful your eyes are, the way they look in the dawn, when the sun is just beginning to rise over the hills. I’d forgotten how lovely you are in the moonlight. The way it brings out your features. I can’t help but be ever so grateful that you have returned to me after all this time.
I hope to hear back from you soon, and see you this evening.
I am yours for all time
L.A.
My Dearest,
I will admit I was a little surprised to see your letter. But happy to read it. I understand the need to keep our conversations private. I wish it wasn’t the case. The days of carefree talk in the halls of this castle are far behind us, like the days of our youth. The days in which our conversations are considered nothing but the fantasies and musings of children are far behind us. I wish now I had cherished the last time we spoke so freely, savored the moments we could love in the open. No one tells you when you’re young how quickly all the freedoms will slip away.  You spend so much time wanting to grow up, not realizing what you lose with age.
As for seeing you again after all this time apart, I couldn’t be happier to have you near me again. The sight of you after all this time, I was sure I was dreaming th moment I saw you. There was a moment where I thought of doing something ever so reckless, to take your hand and run with you. Run as far as we could, as fast as we could. Leave this world far behind and never let them catch us. Live a life where we never have to answer to anyone but ourselves. Just the two of us, no obligations, nothing to tie us down. Of course, that couldn’t be the case. I will have to be happy with our lives as it stands currently, be thankful for the fact we can even be together. It is both a blessing and a curse, to be so close, and yet unable to be what we so yearn to be.  I should not linger on what we could be, and enjoy what we have. Please do not think less of me for my desires and dreams being so foolish, my dearest, they are but the remnants of a childhood dream that I have yet to grow out of.
I am yours most sincerely.
Y.D.
My Darling,
If I were to call you foolish or to think less of you for this type of thinking it would be unjust of me seeing as I feel the same way. I am always thinking of running, of taking you somewhere where there would be no expectations of either of us. Somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy where we could be free to do as we want. To be whoever we want, however we want, no rules, no expectations. If that is foolish thinking than I am the king of fools. I want nothing more than to live that life. To turn back time, to play games again, to love you in the way we did as children. I could never ask you to stop dreaming that way, I never want you to. These dreams, however impossible are worth dreaming. I want to lay beside you and gaze into your eyes in the way we would if we were husband and wife, I want to believe that is how we are meant to be, two fools, deep in love. I would have it no other way.
I hope it is not too much ask you to keep that childlike dream alive. For us, for our future. Keep it alive and remind me of it when the days grow colder and the nights seem endless, for the times we can barely spend a moment with each other while duty pulls us apart. Please keep being foolish, even when we are far apart, by distance or by ideals. Is it too much to ask, that you keep the love of two naïve children in mind when you look to me, while the pressures of the choices of rule dig their claws into my flesh, keep the man who wanted to run with you across the galaxy in your mind, and guide me back to being him when I stray too far. Please my Darling, never let me stray so far from your heart that I forget how to be foolish.
I am yours for all time
20 Great Horror Podcasts To Fall Asleep And Have Nightmares To
I listen to a lot of horror podcasts, and if you’re looking for a spooky recommendation for October, I am here to provide. These are my personal top ten (not in any order) and ten rapid-fire “honorable mentions” as well.
The Silt Verses – Strange, soothing folk horror. Two followers of an outlawed god travel their deity’s great black river, hiding from a police manhunt and encountering other weird gods that have flourished in forgotten rural territories. There is a god in your fridge, a god in your radio, a god in your deepest regrets, and none of that is a good thing.
The Hotel – Someplace beyond time and space is The Hotel, where guests check in but they don't check out *Vincent Price laugh* instead meeting a violent death at the will of the Hotel. The truly stand out part is the hotel staff, who end up getting most of the focus. The interplay between these terrible monsters who are all trapped in hell together is absolutely fantastic, horror office politics at its finest.
The Magnus Archives – Jonathan Sims’s job is to record statements of encounters with the supernatural. But the more he records, the more connections he makes between these seemingly disconnected tales of terror. A horror/tragedy with a deep emotional core, difficult moral questions, and just the right amount of humor. You’ve already heard of this one why am I even telling you about it, it’s good.
Unwell – Mount Absalom, Ohio is a small town, the kind of place where you don’t lock your doors at night. Where the ghost tour at Fenwood House runs rain or shine. Where buildings still bear the marks of the last great fire in the Burning Woods. Where you might hear echoes of conversations long past in the observatory on Chapel Hill. Unwell is particularly memorable for its fun, colorful characters and for its themes of history and loss. A Midwestern Gothic mystery about family, memories, and the things that haunt us in the end.
Down – A submarine called the Virgil enters a seemingly bottomless Antarctic trench. Its mission: to map the pit and collect samples of any scientifically interesting creatures within. But when an encounter with one of these creatures goes awry, tensions form among the crew, and they begin to wonder how safe they really are. All the while, the Virgil descends … and descends … and descends.
Mockery Manor – It’s the summer of 1989, and people are going missing in Mockery Manor theme park. It’s up to a pair of teenage sisters to unravel the mystery and catch the killer – if they can get past their own traumas and work together. If you like 80s and 90s horror/slasher movies, this one is for you. The audio production values are some of the best I’ve seen, and include in-universe pop songs and wonderfully atmospheric 90s horror synth.
I Am In Eskew – David Ward is lost. He’s found himself in Eskew, a place of steep and winding streets, where the architecture changes at will and the rain never stops. Eskew grips its people tight, and does not let go easily. These are David’s stories of the city that has claimed him, and of someone who is looking for him there.
Gospel Of The Flood – The world is sinking. Slowly, day by day, the continents are vanishing under the waves. This is the age of the Flood. We follow a priest who has lost his faith, as he searches for the people he remembers in this doomed and dying world. A tragedy/existential horror about faith, despair, kindness, cruelty, and the tide that carries it all away.
The Lost Cat Podcast – Our narrator is looking for his cat. It isn’t the nicest cat, nor the most well-behaved, but it is his cat and he misses it. As he searches he encounters many people, many creatures, and some truly terrible things. He’d like to tell you about them. The tone for this one fluctuates from story to story, from genuinely horrifying to purely comedic to incredibly soft and gentle.
Archive 81 – A man named Daniel Powell listens to some audio tapes. This will surely not have severe consequences for anyone. Melody Pendras interviews the tenets of a building where reality wears thin at the edges. A play from golden age of radio brushes against something mankind wasn't meant to hear. Two siblings attempt an occult ritual left by their estranged (and now deceased) father. It's a lot of weird analog horror with fun found footage scattered within.
(Note: Archive 81 is genuinely nothing like the Netflix adaptation of the same name. The plot is entirely different, the characters act differently, the podcast is a surreal cosmic horror while the adaptation is a straightforward demon cult and Netflix made Melody straight. Don’t mention the Netflix adaptation in this household we all hate the Netflix adaptation here.)
Honorable Mentions: (i.e., I like them but for one reason or another they weren’t right for the top ten.)
Midst - More Fantasy/Weird/Western than horror, but if you like horror you’ll love the monsters, the cosmic horror reality storms and the truly weird imagery. The unique narration style is like nothing else I’ve ever heard and keeps the energy high.
The White Vault S1 & S2 – Frozen tundra horror, similar vibes to The Thing, in a found footage format. I mostly recommend the first two seasons, because they’re the most solid and they work as a self-contained story.
Old Gods of Appalachia – Appalachian folk horror, angry ghosts and forest gods. Some characters and threads run through it but largely each season is its own setting and story.
Alice Isn’t Dead – A truck driver searches America for the wife she long assumed was dead. Soft spoken road trip horror slowly unraveling an inhuman conspiracy.
Woe.Begone – More scifi/thriller than horror, but good shit. What begins as a mysterious and violent ARG with real-life consequences becomes a search for the technology that makes the game possible. Great music, fun narrator, dark themes.
Death By Dying – The Obituary Writer of Crestfall, Idaho just can’t stop himself from investigating the mysterious deaths he’s supposed to be writing about. Very silly and whimsical, more black comedy than pure horror with big Welcome To Night Vale vibes.
A Voice From Darkness – Parapsychologist Dr. Malcolm Ryder helps those who suffer from supernatural troubles on his call in radio show. I’ll warn that the update schedule is a bit slow and not super consistent.
The SCP Archives – A podcast that takes stories from the SCP Foundation wiki and gives them voice acting, foley and the full audio treatment. Picks a pretty good variety, too.
The Wrong Station – Anthology podcasts are always a little hit and miss, but the fact that The Wrong Station keeps the same writing/VA team from episode to episode really helps keep it consistent. I made a list of my favorite episodes here.
Nightlight – Anthology podcast with creepy stories written by black writers and performed by black actors. Like all anthologies, you’ll like some stories better than others, but they cover a pretty wide range.
nine years. It had been nine years.
The first year felt unrealistic. It was strange. going from being side by side with each other almost 24/7 to no contact at all. [Name] didn’t know what she did wrong, just that one day Satoru and Suguru decided they didn’t want her in their life anymore.
She remembered everything of their last day together, every once in a while it would suddenly pop back up into her head, but in that first year, it replayed again and again; every day.
“Suguru!” [Name] had called out to one of the two teenage boys as she caught up to them “hi!”
Suguru flung his arm around the girl's shoulders, pulling her into his side as she greeted Satoru.
“Where have you been, doll? We were looking for you.”
[Name] laughed as she grabbed their hands and pulled them along. “Shoko and I accidentally forgot to sleep, so when I did fall asleep around ten I was doomed to wake up late.”
The two boys looked at each other and smiled, the little ball of sunshine walking in front still pulling them along.
“So four hours of sleep and already this energetic? you still gotta teach me that trick.” Satoru commented as he looked at her, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. She replied with a ‘real magicians don’t explain their best tricks’
After they walked for a while, they finally reached the top of a mountain, looking down on the city below.
The beginning of summer break celebration was going on, kids from their private school and from public schools in the city came together to celebrate. Many people crowded the streets, there was music, and they could see everything perfectly.
“look who knows the best spots once again”
They had spent the entire afternoon on the top of that mountain since classes were canceled due to the celebration, their fellow students were down there, having fun.
But as they were probably dancing and partying; Satoru took on the challenge to chase [Name] around the hill, she yelped and ran behind the other boy, clutching to the back of his shirt for protection as she heard the two boys negotiate.
“Don’t you dare Suguru,” she warned, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. He placed one of his hands on hers and suddenly pulled her to the front. “Not you too please! ah!” she yelped, but the next moment she was giggling, she could never stand a chance against their tickle war. Ever since they found out she was very ticklish a few years ago it had become a thing for them to annoy her with. Whenever it was if she were sad, annoyed, angry, or if they felt like it, the boys would look at each other and [Name] would run instantly if she saw. (Which she most of the time didn’t and fell into their grasp giggling.)
Later at night they went back to the school, they had watched the sun set, then the fireworks, and then [name] and Satoru listened and looked in awe as Suguru pointed out constellations in the night sky. It was perfect.
At some point her eyes fell and she slept. The black haired boy looked down at her sleeping on Satoru's shoulder before giving a sad smile.
“She will never forgive us.”
“But at least we'll protect her.”
The next morning when [name] woke up in the room she shared with Shoko there was a little note on her nightstand.
‘you’re gonna be okay’ in Satoru’s messy and rushed handwriting. She got dressed and ran out of her room, looking for her best friends. what did Satoru mean with that she was gonna be okay?
She looked all over the grounds, the dining hall, library, common rooms, classrooms, the fields and gardens. Eventually she decided to also check their dorm. Girls and boys weren’t originally allowed in each other's dorm rooms, but since everyone was packing their stuff for summer the teachers didn’t care. So she followed the familiar path towards the boys their shared room. The posters were gone from their door, but they probably took those down first she thought. [name] knocked on the door, no reaction. She opened the door to find it completely empty except for the furniture that belonged to the school.
Graduation was next week, why were they moved out already? For the last few years they always did that together. Where were they? As she turned around and bumped into Nanami, he looked just as confused as he took in the empty room.
He looked at her, his mouth opening but no sound coming out. She knew what he was gonna ask, “They’re putting their stuff into the car or?”
She showed him the note in her hand and Nanami just got more question marks behind his eyes.
For a week she wondered where they were, she held hope they’d come knocking on her temporary apartment building her parents owned as she waited in the city for graduation. However; no knock came, no call, no letter or note, nothing. Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru disappeared from the radar.
When graduation rolled around word went round that Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru would not be attending. They had waited for this moment for she didn’t know how long. Plans were made to go out with their other friends after, they had plans for the future! But now, instead of her two best friends cheering on her louder than anyone else as she held her valedictorian speech, her other friends cheered double as hard. They knew she’d been struggling this week. Shoko had crashed at her temporary apartment since she didn’t want to deal with her parents. Nanami also came by daily, and if they hadn’t been there, no one would’ve known what would’ve happened to [name].
The second year was still unbearable. [Name] worked a lot, saving money, attending college, going out with her friends on the weekends. She often found herself looking to her sides, expecting to see one of her two former best friends walking there. She always looked for them in crowds, she looked everywhere, but they were nowhere to be found.
In the third year [name] finally figured out her future. She was in her third year but decided to drop out. She saved a lot of money, and she was relatively well off so she bought a building in the busy city and within six months the place opened to a magnificent night club and partially a cafe two times a week. It took a lot of promotion, and a lot of patience until the place blew up.
In just the first year that it opened, she gained so much she paid off the entire loan of the building. It hit off with people her age, and at just nineteen [name] was going to become one of the youngest millionaires of her time, she just didn’t know it yet.
Her friends loved the place too, and they were immensely proud of [name] after what she had gone through a few years prior. She proved to the world that the only person she truly needed was herself and that she could do whatever she wanted to.
The second year after opening the fourth without Gojo and Geto [name] opened a second location of her club across the world in Los Angeles.
And now nine years later, and six locations in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, NYC, Paris and London [Name] had in fact become the fastest growing self made millionaire at her age. She lived in Beverly Hills, had her own place designed and built and she was living the life.
Now; in her bathroom it was still a calm Saturday night but she knew that in an hour she would be in her own club, observing the people as she sipped on her drink. Saturdays were the busiest; first day of the weekend but that also meant a lot of money.
“Scarlett?” [name] called out to her assistant who walked towards the entrance of the bathroom. “Take two weeks off, alright? Paid vacation of course, take your wife anywhere you want, put it on my bill. It’s summer and you haven’t been on a break since last year. It’s not up for debate.” She was fixing the last strands of her hair before turning towards the woman in her doorframe who looked a bit ill at her words. “Now, how do I look?” she gave Scarlett a smile.
“As beautiful as always. And… Are you sure you’ll be fine? I mean… Two weeks is a lot.” Scarlett loved her job, not because it paid well, or because her boss was very generous. She loved her job because her boss felt more like a close friend rather than a boss.
“You’re right, make it three weeks. You deserve it, you and your wife both. I’ll be fine, I know how to start a washer and dryer, I know how to do the dishes. What else would I need? Now, have fun on your vacation, you better send me pics, and have fun! I gotta get going now though cause I'm already late.”
Scarlett still looked a bit sick as she bid farewell to her boss, but at least she could finally take a break, which she was too shy to admit she actually needed.
[Name] walked through the front door of the club, she didn’t pick favorites is what she told others, but the location here in LA and the one in Paris were definitely her favorites of the six she owned. The music was beaming, lights flashing and the scent of alcohol and sweat hung in the air. Security guards nodded at her in a silent greeting as she made her way to her office, one of them trailing her for her own protection. Tonight was going to be a good night, she thought as she poured herself a drink, quickly drowning it before taking a glance at the paperwork that had been assembled on her desk during the last few days. She’d take it home when she left tonight. The security guard opened the door again and waited for her to lock it, after she gave him the signal he didn’t have to trail her tonight.
She walked past the VIP area, making some small conversations with people she’d seen before. There were new faces too, there always were. All different types of ‘em too. It was a safe space as well as a club. She stopped at Toji’s table, how he and her met was a long story. Everyone at [Name] her boarding school knew of the Zen’in family and their generations at the school, same as the Gojo family, as well as her own. She’d seen him here at the club one day a few years ago, standing at the bar and damn he looked familiar she had thought. It soon clicked in her head and she walked up to him.
“Zen’in?” she had called as she stood behind him.
“Fushiguro now actually, took my wife's last name.” he said as he turned around, looking at the young woman in front of him. “Wait,” he had studied her face, until his eyes landed on the obvious giveaway of her family “[last name]?”. She nodded and smiled in response to his guess. “Never thought I’d see one of you all the way out here.”
“Well, someone has to be the millionaire of the family.” Toji’s eyes widened as he asked for more details, giving an impressed grin when he found out she was the owner.
“You got it good, girl. I wouldn’t have suspected you to be the type.”
“Hello again, it’s been a while.” She sat down on the couch next to him, observing the people as they danced to the music. There were some empty glasses in front of him but Toji seemed rather sober.
“[Last name], you look good tonight.” he gave her a grin, it had been a few years since his wife died, the first few years were a mess for him, he was in here every night drinking away his grief. But over the years he had come to accept her passing and actually started taking care of his son again. Now he came every weekend, mostly just Saturdays since that's when his son was at his friends’ or godfathers house. “Thank you,” she smiled at him, smoothing out the satin dress on her body. “How’s Megs?” She hadn’t seen either of them ‘cause they’d been residing in Japan for a while. Toji smiled at the mention of his son. It took him too long to realize that the little boy was his light in life, his wife lived on in him and oh he was amazing.
“He’s fine, great actually. He graduated from Jujutsu High a few weeks ago…” as Toji said that an old but familliar scent hit [name] her nostrils and she immediately turned her head around but didn’t find what she smelled. “It was amazing to see him receive his diploma. To be really honest, a few years ago I thought I’d never be back at that place again after I graduated years and years ago myself.”
“He’s so grown up already, I can remember when you told me he just started.” [Name] turned her head back towards her friend with a smile that didn’t quite meet her eyes. “And to be fair, I don’t think I’ll ever return to Jujutsu High again, no matter the reason.” there was a reason- there were simply too many memories there that she had tried her hardest to forget. Those memories being the ones she just smelled.
The mixed scent of sweet floral yet strong cologne and a really overwhelming smell of pine and vanilla still hung faintly in the air.
It can’t be, she thought. Her mind was just playing tricks on her because Toji had her remember things she didn’t want to. There’s no way.
Yet when she bid farewell to Toji and walked towards the bar she smelled it again. The bartenders didn’t look up when she walked behind the bar and poured herself a drink, yet she overheard their conversations.
“That man's eyes… wow! I’ve never seen anyone with eyes that bright!”
It’s not him. They’re not here.
“But the other one! His shoulders… my god.”
[Name] walked away before she’d drive herself insane over this. There was no way they were here. If they were, she would’ve spotted them already. Even though a decade can change a lot about a person; Gojo’s bright blue eyes and bright hair and Geto’s long dark hair and muscled figure always stood out, especially when together.
She wasn’t even sure if they’d regcronise her. She cut her hair, the final stages of puberty hit her later so she got some more curves and flesh, her style had changed and so had her personality. Though deep down she knew that if she’d ever see those two boys again, she’d turn back into her old bubbly self if it took too long. She always had a soft spot for them, no matter what happened or how much she denied it, they would always be a part of her past. Toji had also once told her she walked around like she owned the place, to which she replied that she did. He’d given her credit for the remark and she’d told him to put things on her tab that night.
With a racing heart she went back to observing the crowds. Walking alongside tables, along the dancefloor, everywhere.
Theres no way these two fucks still wear the same cologne after years.
She sipped her drink, it burned in her throat, but it wasn't unpleasant. She walked towards the staircase for staff and security. All the way up it overlooked the layout of the building and she could spot things easier.
I’m going to drive myself insane by looking for people that aren’t-
Her train of thoughts stopped when she saw a mob of bright white hair, she stared at it for ten seconds before looking at the person's face and she felt her head get light, looking besides him she saw a familiar black haired man.
Fuck.
She turned around, not being able to look anymore. The top of the stairs wasn't lit, so the chance they would’ve seen her was slim, very slim. [Name] sunk to the ground and drowned her drink in one go, this time the burn lasted longer and she closed her eyes. A few years ago she had promised herself that if she’d ever find them in her club- her property, she’d get them kicked out. Yet now that she found them, that seemed impossible. She couldn’t just walk up to them and tell them to get out of here.
Why not?
Why not? There was no reason as to why not. As she said, it was her property, she could do whatever she wanted and before she realized it herself she was already making her way to the table they were sitting at.
The music seemed to dim, the world became clearer yet also blurrier as she stood in front of them.
“Get the fuck out of my place.” she said, there was anger and aggression in her voice as she looked at them. “Now.”
Gojo and Geto both looked up at the person speaking to them. Geto had to do a double take as he took in the woman before him, but Gojo’s heart and smile dropped instantly.
“Get out. You’ll be okay.” her own eyes met Gojo’s blue ones, sending back his own words he left on that note nine years ago.
[Name] raised her eyebrows in amusement as she looked at the two men infront of her. They changed so much, yet nothing at all. She’d wait sixty seconds before she would raise her hand and look to the side to call security.
“[N-name]? What are you doing here?” Gojo stuttered.
“Running my club, what about you?” she smiled sarcastically before glaring at him. “Leave. You two wanted me out of your life, now I want you two out of mine. Leave and never show your face here, or at any of my locations, ever again. You have one minute before I call security.”
Geto stared at her with wide eyes, the woman in front of him was not the one they left behind nine years ago. There was no sign of silly jokes and giggles, lit up eyes and playful eyerolls.
This woman was cold. That was the only word that came to Geto’s mind. There was no love in her eyes anymore, her spark wasn't the same. And the worst part of it was that Gojo and he were probably the reason for it.
“Ha! Look who it is, man I didn’t expect you here. Isn’t Megs at your place?” Toji suddenly appeared out of nowhere and his words made [name] even more lightheaded. He wrapped his arm around her waist briefly, a small sign of affection and recognition as they exchanged glances. “You know them?” she asked Toji who enthusiastically replied.
“Yeah! Blue eyes is Megumi’s godfather. But I was just gonna head back out, got an emergency meeting first thing tomorrow. See ya [name], take care of yourself, alright?” he waved goodbye to Gojo and Geto and walked out.
Great. Fucking great.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Don’t you dare. Don’t you fucking-
“Follow me, no questions and you'll walk out of here unharmed.” she spoke in a cold tone before turning around and making her way to her office.
What the fuck was happening. Who had cursed this upon her?
She unlocked the door to her office and walked in, pouring herself another drink as the two men came in. “Sit down.”
They did as she said and sat down in the chairs facing the desk. Gojo sneaked a look at one of the papers on her desk. It showed the gain of the last month. That was more than his and Geto’s company made… in three months…
He quickly sat back when she turned around and sat in the desk chair with her drink in hand. It was a fancy black one, CEO’s would have it- he had one alike.
“I thought you didn’t drink.” Gojo said, trying to make small talk.
“I thought I would have a nice future with my best friends nine years ago.” She took a sip of her drink, looking at both of them before speaking again. “Explain. You have ten minutes, and I am solely doing this for the sake of Toji and Megs cause I will not have them know we are on bad terms.”
They stared at her. Nine years ago she would have blushed and tried to hide away or scolded them to stop, but now she stared back, no trace of blushing on her cheeks.
“Get to it. We’re adults now, we both have running businesses. So let's get over it.”
Geto sighed, this was more complicated than the situation nine years ago was. Or maybe explaining it nine years ago would’ve been easier, [name] was easier then. Not in a bad way, she changed, they all did, but Geto had the feeling that she would’ve understood it better back then rather than now. Both Gojo and Geto felt the anger radiating off her, she looked like she could in fact kill both of them right now.
“We got mixed up with the wrong people in our last year.” Gojo suddenly said and she huffed in annoyance but kept quiet. “You know we were already making plans for our business back then, we tried to make some ties here and there and a particular branch of people scammed us. That’s how we met Toji too, he was mixed up with the same people. They had known I came from money and so they stalked us around, even at school. Pretty soon they found how close we were with you and before we knew it they had entire records open on you. Where you lived, who your parents are, all that type of things! They found your birth certificate! With that came that they found out you came from money too- old money. So they started with threatening to keep us hostage ‘till you paid them a fine, knowing you would.
After we complied and gave them some money they continued with the blackmail. They came to us with pictures of you asleep, during class, free time, of your apartment in the city. They said they’d kidnap you, said what they’d do to you if we wouldn’t give them more money once our business grew. They knew it would grow because of my father, so we had to cut ties with you to protect you. On the last night-”
“Enough.” She took a long sip of her drink and threw her head back. “You know how much this sounds like bullshit? Protect me or they’d kidnap me and torture me unless-literally speaking-you payed them a fuck ton of money. You could’ve fucking told me? You could’ve waited ‘till after graduation? Yet you decided not to knowing I would be a fucking wreck for years upon years. And then suddenly, after almost a decade you show up in my club acting like a bunch of fucking pussies. The boys I knew wouldn’t pull shit like that! They’d fight cause they’re rich private school jackasses who wouldn’t back out of a fight, nor abandon their best friend simply because some fuckers threatened to hurt her! This could’ve easily been fucking figured out because for fucks sake Gojo! You! You are the heir to one of the oldest bloodlines in country, and so am I so I personally do not see where the fucking problem lies in that it could not have been resolved! And you- no. Don’t you both see the logic in this?” she took a deep breath and looked them both in the eye “I am drunk alright but even I can see this is bullshit.”
She threw her head back again and took a deep breath and exhaled it.
“You don’t know how scared we were to lose you to them, [name]!” Geto looked at her, but she was looking at the boring white ceiling. “Yeah, well. You lost me because of your fears of losing me.”
Silence hung in the air for a minute or so as she let those words sink in.
Don't do it. Do not do it. It doesn't matter how close you used to be with them. It doesn’t matter that they took your v-
“Okay here's the deal. It's friday, or well saturday by now probably. Tuesday this place is a cafe, like it is two times a week. You both come here at ten AM, and well talk then, cause again I am fucking drunk.” rolling her head back and looking at them she sighed “Now get out.”
Gojo and Geto gave each other a look, then looked back at [Name]. She looked back, even though her eyes were a bit bloodshot and teary, her gaze was filled with anything but care and love. Geto took a deep breath before standing up. “Will you get home safely?” He asked and she could see there was genuine concern in his eyes as he frowned a little.
“I’ll call my assistant to come and get me.” She rolled her eyes and gave them another look that told them to get out.
Only [Name] forgot that she had sent Scarlett on vacation, so when she dialed her number it went straight to voicemail. She walked out of the club with the stack of paperwork from earlier in her hands and called an uber. The driver said he was near and there within a minute, so when eventually a black car stopped in front of her she got in. Vaguely she heard him ask for her destination and she gave her address.
Tonight hadn’t gone as planned, at all. She had expected a calm evening but it was anything but. [Name] had always thought she was over it, over them, or at least for the biggest part. There were always small reminders of them in everything she did or had. But she really thought she’d be able to kick them out, out of her club and out of her life just like they’d done to her. Their explanation–it made sense but it didn’t. Sure she knew they were busy setting up their business, she knew they were making connections. But stalking? The threats? It seemed unreal, yet it was known that around that time there was a peak of criminal groups disguising as business people in Japan.
[Name] searched for her wallet and pulled out three bills of twenty when the car stopped in front of the gate to her home.
“Keep the change.” she said and stumbled out, typing in the code of the gate and walking in. She stood still for a moment, looking up at the sky before collapsing on the grass. LA didn’t give the best view of the stars, yet she stared at them anyways, the moonlight shining down on her. It didn’t take long before her eyes closed and she fell asleep under the stars.
Satoru and Suguru watched the woman collapse on the grass and they jumped out of the car. How she hadn’t noticed it wasn’t her UBER, they didn’t know. The gate closed just before the two men could reach it.
Satoru slammed on the gate, while the other used his brain and looked at the numbers. Three of them were slightly stained with a black substance–probably mascara that [name] had rubbed onto her hand when she rubbed her eyes.
Suddenly Suguru saw it, those three numbers were the first three numbers of his birthday.
“Over us, my ass.” he said as he typed in his birthday on the keypad.
The other looked over at him and stared as the gate opened. “How’d you do that?” “It was my birthday.” they were both a bit dumbfounded by it, but neither of them would be lying if they denied her birthday was also still their phone password.
Once the gate was open enough they ran through it. The once nicely stacked papers were now sprawled around her as her chest slowly rose up and down. Suguru rushed towards the papers, those were finance and he knew she’d be pissed if they flew away. Satoru ran to get the woman off the grass, he mentioned for Suguru to grab her purse and fish out her keys as he carried her to the front door.
“Fucking hell sweetheart, you never fail to get us concerned do you?” Satoru held her tightly as Suguru opened the door with the sixth key he tried. They stared in awe as the lights turned on. Yeah, this is definitely a [Name] house. “Couch?”
“She never liked sleeping on couches, let’s just find her room.”
The two men wandered around the massive house, looking inside every room in the hopes it was her personal bedroom. They stumbled across her office, multiple empty bedrooms–and bathrooms, tons of dead ends, and lots and lots of paintings. But finally when they took one corner it became clear this was where [name] spent most of her time. They opened the biggest door and it revealed a bedroom, adorned with adorable furniture and picture frames, and of course more art. This was definitely her room.
Suguru looked at pictures of a teen [name] with Shoko, next to it stood a picture of Nanami–which didn’t seem to be a very old picture. He saw lots of familiar faces. Even some of Megumi and his friends. In the meantime Satoru had carried her to her bed and laid her down.
“We either wake her up and get yelled at, or we leave her like this and she’ll wake up feeling terrible.” Satoru turned on the light on the nightstand and looked at his best friend.
To be completely honest–they hadn’t known they were in her club tonight. They both knew she owned a chain of clubs, just like how she probably knew about their business. Their surprise to see her had been much alike to [name] except for the hatred. Both of them had said it. That she’d hate them once they left, and she did, they saw the anger this evening. Though it was a surprise she didn’t turn violent, not that [name] was aggressive or anything, but what would any sane person do when they’d see the person who made their life miserable by leaving her alone?
It was probably Toji’s appearance who stopped her from doing that.
“Or we do our best to make her comfortable cause she ain’t gonna be sleeping well in that. If she wakes up we accept the result. If she doesn’t; we leave as quietly as possible and see her tuesday.” Geto proposed and already turned to what he assumed was a walk in closet.
He blindly grabbed a t-shirt and a pair of shorts from a random drawer and walked back out. As the two stood beside the bed looking at the sleeping woman another wave of realization hit them but it soon faded away and they got to action. Sure it was a bit weird they were changing their former best friend's clothes while she was sleeping, but they’d rather have her comfortable rather than ripping an expensive looking dress.
You just do this because you want to make up for the time you lost with her.
It wasn’t the first time they had changed her clothes, saw her naked or passed out. Yet it was a very different situation now. Nine years had passed.
It took them a while, and some whispered curses and confusion of the dress [Name] was wearing later, they stood back and watched as she lay there, sleeping. Satoru had gone to get a clean glass of water for on her bedside while Suguru tucked her into bed.
“You’d definitely have our heads if you knew we were here…” he spoke as he gently lifted her head to get the hair out of her neck. That’s when he realized she also still had make-up on, best leave that for her to do when she wakes up, Suguru thought.
“Scarlett? Scar don’t forget…” Suguru froze as he watched [Name] stir in her sleep. He carefully reached out and placed a hand on her head.
“Go back to sleep, pretty girl.” He closed his eyes, the sound of her voice hadn’t changed, though when they talked earlier it was rougher, there was hatred in her voice. Now her voice was soft and calm, like it had been all those years ago.
They’d spent summers at each other's houses, mostly Satoru’s or [Name]’s, and every morning the boys would hear that soft, whiney, sleepy voice and they’d just melt. Surrender whatever and tickle and smother the girl in hugs and kisses.
Some outsiders called them ‘like siblings’ , some said the three could argue like a married bunch, others said they were invisibly bonded, like a string always connecting them wherever they went, always coming back to each other.
Suguru kneeled beside the bed, looking around the room. Though [Name] may be in her late twenties, the way she decorated her room was still the same as in her high school days. Picture frames with pictures of friends everywhere, posters of shows, bands, movies on the walls. Plants here and there, a pile of laundry on the floor along with some dishes.
Her bedside table adorned a book, a cute lamp Satoru turned on earlier, some flowers, another picture frame with a picture of her with some friends… No, not just some friends.
It was [Name], with Satoru and himself.
Suguru swallowed, he remembered the day that picture was taken all too well. It had been their last first day at Jujutsu High, also known as their first day of senior year. God, they were all young then, Suguru thought. Young and clueless. No idea what was bound to happen not many months later.
Originally the picture was just meant to be of [Name], but the two boys had decided to photobomb, so it was [Name] cutely standing in front of the camera, and then two teenage boys coming up behind her with weird faces. The girl absolutely adored the photo, it had been on her night stand ever since she got the photos back on paper.
Suguru cast his eyes down to the floor before the door opened and Satoru came in, nearly on his tippy toes to try and make as little sound as possible. “Got the water, let’s… what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, let’s get out of here before we wake her up.”
When [Name] woke up the next morning she had zero recollection of what happened after she exited the UBER. To her surprise, she was no longer in her dress, wearing clothes she hadn’t seen in years, ones she tucked away after high school ended and never looked back on.
She noted the freshwater and aspirins on her bedside table. Her dress from the night prior neatly folded and put on her vanity stool.
Odd. She thought as she got up out of bed. She also found her phone on her bedside table, plugged into the charger, on do not disturb. Very odd.
She opened up her phone, seeing hundreds of messages from Scarlett, and as she opened them the woman herself called.
“[Name]? Thank god, are you alright? What were they doing carrying you?” Scarlett immediately bombarded her with questions, and [Name] could not phantom what she was talking about at all.
As Scarlett continued talking [Name] walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror just as Scarlett spoke words she did not want to hear at all.
“What were the owners of S&S Industries doing inside of your house?”
Tuesday rolled around in a haze. The weekend was a blur, [Name] was not prepared for the day to come. This was the exact reason she always had Scarlett make her appointments.
She arrived at the location an hour early, making sure everything looked better than good. It had to be. Her staff had welcomed her with a warm welcome, big smiles and kind words, as always. She told them an important meeting of sorts would be taking place around ten and to be polite, solely to tell them again how important it was.
Out of pure coincidence, Megumi and his friends showed up ten minutes before ten, distracting [Name] from the nerves that were eating away at her. She was sitting down in a booth in the center of the cafe, Nobara and Megumi sitting next to her as Yuji ordered him and his two friends breakfast. It was always nice to have the kids come by, have breakfast with them, today was just really unfortunate.
“You kids will have to pick another table to eat at, yes? I have a meeting here in a bit.” She looked at Megumi, noting how much he looked like his father. Her phone chimed, and the time told her it was a mere five more minutes before she had to face them–sober.
“Business meeting? More locations? Important? Collabs?” Nobara looked at her with big eyes, [Name] adored the younger girl, she reminded her of her younger self a lot, and she guessed Nobara saw her as a big sister, always clinging to her side when the two saw each other.
“Not quite, just… some people from high school, but you have to promise me not to give any weird looks when you see them, okay?”
She looked at them again, their confused looks bringing a nervous smile on [Name] her face as she shooed them away when the door opened.
“Tell your dad I said hi.” she messed up his hair before walking towards the two men in the entrance.
Enough hours were spent trying to come up with what to say at this exact moment, she had so many options, yet none came to mind as she looked up at them.
[Name] looked up at the two men and swallowed, her head felt light as she offered a small smile–already regretting everything.
“Hi, welcome.” she dipped her head out of respect before turning around and mentioning for them to follow her. She spared the kids a look, and as expected they were staring at the trio with big confused eyes. Oh how much they looked like Gojo, Geto and herself when they were younger, and she could only hope they wouldn’t meet the same fate.
Once they were seated in the booth a waiter came by and took their orders, which were still the exact same as a decade ago.
“It’s a nice place you build here.” Geto was the first to speak up.
Hesitantly [Name] looked up at him and smiled, “Paris is even better, bought this old place, renovated it completely but kept the old looks on the inside. It took a while but it’s perfect…” She again looked at the kids, Nobara was already looking at her and offered her a thumbs up. “So, Megs godfather huh?” Gojo met her eyes over his sunglasses he still wore, guilt was evident in them.
He nodded softly, “Yeah… Saved Toji from one of the gangs we got mixed up with, he made me his godfather about a year later. What about you and Toji?”
“Me and Toji? In what way?” She raised her eyebrows, knowing fully well what he meant. “Toji is a family associate, loyal customer, and a great friend. Nothing more. A bit too old for me.”
Silence fell over them again until their drinks arrived. The air was tense, guilt and regret hung in the air as well as sadness and anger. It wouldn’t take much for [Name] to burst out in tears. For the first time in years she was at arms length of her best friends, she looked at them and savored the moment even though they hurt her so badly.
Gojo still stirred sugar through his coffee as he sat in the middle seat, stealing Geto’s small cookie when he wasn't looking. His hair still messy but not messy messy, his undercut now much more noticeable than when they were teens and still those cursed sunglasses that hid his mesmerizing blue eyes.
Grew up to meet the Disney prince standards. [Name] thought.
Geto… His hair was longer, half put up, half falling down his back. He put on more muscle, a small smile still always present on his face, soft and caring eyes staring back at her as she took him in.
Oh fuck.
“You’re staring, doll.”
She flushed, blood rushing to her cheeks as she got caught. She swallowed, saying the first best thing that came to mind.
“It was a real asshole move, you know. Nine years ago. It really fuckin’ hurt and it could’ve been atleast brought to me in a slightly better way.”
You didn’t have to cut me off completely out of nowhere. Was what she meant to say, but she knew the boys got the message already as they dipped their heads.
“It took me four years to stop looking to my sides for either of you, I couldn’t sleep in my family home anymore cause every meter of the premises reminded me of you. I never stopped looking for you in crowds, I never stopped smelling ghosts your scents wherever I went. I never had the nerve to throw out pictures of you, of us. I never changed my phone password, I- I never got over it, over you two.”
[Name] had tears in the corners of her eyes as she grabbed her tea to calm herself. Every inch of her just needed to tell them everything. How she felt, how it hurt. Everything.
Her lips quivered when a hand took her mug out of her hands and arms wrapped around her. The smell of a strong cologne filled her senses and that was all it took for the tears to fall. She was pulled closer until she could feel the material of his sweater on her cheek. Suguru Geto was hugging her for the first time in nine years. A feeling she never thought she’d feel again as she held onto him for dear life.
Somewhere in her mind [Name] remembered what she thought not too long ago. If I stay around them for too long I'll go back to my old self in no time.
“Easy, doll, we’re not going anywhere... Not again.” Suguru whispered softly rubbing soothing circles on her back as he held her close. “It’s okay, shh.”
He slowly rocked them back and forth, locking eyes with Satoru who was having a hard time holding his emotions in check. Gojo also didn’t dare spare the kids not too far away a look, not knowing how’d they react to the scene in front of them.
Carefully Satoru sat up and reached out to [Name], her head still half shielded away by one of Suguru’s hands. When their eyes locked she broke free from the other man and embraced him.
“Always stealing the ladies away from me,”
“Yeah, well, I think there's no more need for other ladies now that we have the best one of all back.”
Papa’s playlists - music headcanons
Sometimes when I listen to music I mentally associate what I’m listening to the Papas, so I thought it would have been fun to imagine a 10 songs playlist for/of each Papa. I have chosen the songs by their personalities, the kind of music they have done and the general vibes I get when I listen to the songs.
Primo:
I see him sitting on his couch by the fire, immersed in his voluminous, rich vestments. He can listen to the heaviest doom metal tune without moving an inch of his body, fully immersed in understanding the lyrics, but 70s rock always brings back his old memories of when he used to throw small parties in his chamber whenever the Beatles or his favorite bands released a new LP.
The Beatles - Come together
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Mayhem - Freezing moon
The Rolling Stones - Start me up
Candlemass - Bewitched
Bathory - A fine day to die
Mercyful fate - Evil
The animals - House of the rising sun
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Diamond Head - Am I Evil?
Secondo:
He has two sides: the old-school metalhead and the devoted enthusiast of good old symphonic music. He prepares himself a cigar and settles at his desk, embracing the darkness like the nocturnal creature he is, to work on papers or perhaps write some lyrics inspired by his favorite arias. In his playlist, you can always find something classy followed by something extremely heavy.
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
Slayer - South of Heaven
Venom - Don’t burn the witch
Giuseppe Verdi - Dies Irae/Tuba Mirum
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
King Diamond - The family ghost
The Doors - Riders on the storm
Guns and Roses - Coma
Bobby Vinton - Blue velvet
Antonio Vivaldi - Four Seasons
Terzo:
Ah, Terzo. Whether he's completing his nighttime skincare routine, getting dressed for a mass, preparing for a date, or simply relaxing in his chambers with a good wine, he always has a record playing in the background. He's not a headbanger, but he likes to keep the tempo with his hands. He taps his fingers on his thigh to match the drum tempo of most rhythmic songs or moves his hands softly to the sound of the mellower ones, like when he listens to "Barcelona," adjusting his hand movements based on the virtuosity of the voices.
Candlemass - Well of Souls
The struts - Kiss this
Metallica - Until it sleeps
Metallica - For whom the bell tolls
Kreator - People of the lie
Freddie Mercury feat Montserrat Caballe - Barcelona
David Bowie - Starman
Pentagram - Sign of the wolf
Sepoltura - Dead embryonic cells
Mercyful fate - Witches dance
Copia:
I can totally picture Copia putting on something groovy like "Stuck In The Middle With You" while attempting to cook something, swaying his hips to the rhythm and inevitably either burning whatever is in the pan or creating a mess on the counter by dropping bottles and food.
Alice Cooper - Poison
Iron Maiden - Run to the hills
Steppenwolf - Born to be wild
Dead or Alive - You spin me round
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Judas Priest - Painkiller
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the devil
Stealers wheel - Stuck in the middle with you
The Darkness - Love is only a feeling
Bon Jovi - You give love a bad name
Nihil:
An old-school rocker. He would pick you up in his car with Led Zeppelin playing at full volume, take you to a bar where he puts on your favorite song in the jukebox, and by the time you come back from the toilet, he's kissing some random girl right at the bar counter. He would later apologize, claiming he was just drunk and thought that was you… a red flag you'll ignore.
The Doors - Touch me
Led Zeppelin - Whole lotta love
Elton John - Tiny dancer
Ozzy Osburne - Crazy train
Deep Purple - Child in time
Deep Purple - Hush
Jefferson airplane - White rabbit
Elvis Presley - Suspicious minds
The Rolling Stones -  Paint it black
The Beatles - Helter Skelter
Put Me in a Movie - Chapter One
Miguel O’Hara x Fem!Reader
Summary - You’re a famous actress and he’s one of the greatest directors of all time. What happens when you get cast in his new movie?
Tumblr media
“In entertainment news, director Miguel O’Hara and actress Jessica Drew have officially divorced after ten years of marriage,” the blonde news reporter said. You’d heard through the grapevine that Miguel and Jessica were calling it quits a while ago. People in Hollywood like to gossip. Apparently, she was caught having an affair with the pool boy.
You get up from the couch and make your way outside. It was a nice and sunny day in Hollywood. Living in the Hollywood Hills meant one of two things: you were rich or you were famous. You? Well, you were both and you deserved every single ounce of it. You worked your ass off to get where you were today. From working in a record store in order to meet ends meet to working on movie sets.
You’ve done it all. Commercials, television, and movies. Movies were your favorite though. There was something so magical about seeing months of filming getting cut into two hours or less. You had major respect for everyone that worked on the set from craft services to the producers. You just loved the movie magic and getting to work in the industry was a dream.
You’ve been out of work for about two months, deciding to take a short break before auditioning again. You’d make appearances here and there to keep yourself relevant in the meantime. Your publicist kept your Instagram up and running and sometimes you would pop in and post a selfie to seem relatable to your fans.
Your last project was a flop. Apparently not a lot of people like Western films all that much. It wouldn’t tank your career though, too many people knew you were too good of an actress for that. Speaking of, your phone began to ring in the pocket of your pants. Your agent, Stacy Walsh, was calling you.
“Hi, Stacy. What can I do for you?” you asked. You didn’t know why she was calling you. You haven’t auditioned for anything new.
“I’ve got a part for you. It’s yours if you want it and it’s pretty good.” Stacy sounded like she was practically jumping with excitement as she spoke.
“I’m listening.” “Miguel O’Hara wants you to be the lead in his next film. I know you said you wanted to take a break since the last film was a big flop, but I really think this could take you to the next level. Please tell me you’ll take it.” Miguel O’Hara wanted you to be the lead in his next film! Miguel is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time! Every single film he’s ever made has grossed over one billion dollars worldwide. Not only that, but every actor that’s worked with him has come out not only as a better performer but also a better person. There is no way that you would let this opportunity pass.
“He wants me to be the lead? But I didn’t even audition or anything. How the hell does he even know who I am?” “Thatiana,” you could hear Stacy sigh over the phone, “You are one of the greatest actresses I’ve ever worked with. You’ve been in plenty of great films and directors like watching movies for inspiration. Maybe he saw you in something and thought you were perfect for the role. Please tell me you’ll take this role.” “Yes. Tell him I said yes,” you said.
Stacy celebrated over the phone and told you that you were awesome. The two of your bid farewell and hung up the phone. You took this role without asking enough questions. Were you going to get paid? What was the genre of the film? Who were your co-stars? There were so many unanswered questions that you had, but none of them were as important as this one. What was Miguel O’Hara actually like?
After getting lost on your way to a new town, you get directions from a kind stranger.
The desert was hot and windy, but you endured it as you made your way to your next destination, wherever that was. You looked closer at the map, but couldn’t make sense of the direction you were headed in, which meant that you were lost.
You groaned and shoved the map back into your pocket, getting ready to turn back the way you came when someone tapped you on the shoulder. “Um, excuse me?”
You shrieked in surprise, nearly falling over in your hurry to back away from the stranger., but he made no move to harm you.
His face was red and his green eyes were wide. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to startle you, I just wanted to offer you my help.”
“Didn’t anyone ever teach you not to sneak up on someone?”
“Maybe, maybe not. You seemed lost, so I came over to help.”
You sighed heavily. “I’m trying to find the nearest town, any idea where it is?”
The man thought for a moment and then pointed opposite of where you were facing. “About five miles that way.”
You grinned. “Thanks, I appreciate it. Are you headed that way too?”
He shook his head. “Heading the way you came, I hear the townsfolk are real friendly!”
“Well, I hope we run into each other again someday.”
He smiled. “Me too. You take care now, y’hear?”
You watched him walk away until he disappeared into the sandy hills, but it wasn’t until his red coat was swallowed up by the desert that you realized you hadn’t asked for his name.
***
It was a few weeks before you saw your kind stranger again, but he never strayed far from your thoughts. Who was he? Most people would’ve left you to die by the desert’s hand or robbed you, but he didn’t do any of that. You wondered if you would be able to return the favor one day.
Right at this exact moment, however, you were lost again and you wondered why you became a traveler if you were going to end up in this position so often.
“Dad was right,” you mutter to yourself, “if the sand doesn’t kill me, something else will.”
“Lost again, I take it?” Asked a familiar voice from your left.
You turned and grinned. “Hey stranger, heading my way?”
“And which way is your way?”
“I’m supposed to be headed towards May, but I can’t find it on my map.”
“Can I see that?” He questioned, green eyes eyeballing the map in your hand.
“If you can make more sense of it than me, sure.” You handed him the aged piece of paper.
“Well, you’ve got it upside down.”
Your eyes widened and you snatched it back from him. “No way. That’s so embarrassing! My folks were right, I’m going to die.”
He put a hand on your shoulder, in a comforting and gentle way, but his touch felt scorching. “Hey, don’t say that. Who listens to their parents, anyways?”
You sniffed. “I did, until I left home two months ago, but you don’t need to listen to me cry. We don’t even know each other.”
His hand left your shoulder and entered your own as he shook it. “Vash. Now we know each other and you can cry all you want.”
You laughed, and then looked at the sky darkening above you. “Wish I could, but if I want to reach May before nightfall, I’d better get a move on.”
Vash grinned at you. “Destined to go opposite ways, are we? I’ll see you next time.”
As the two of you went your separate ways, you felt his hand in yours and saw his smile in your mind when you closed your eyes. You hoped to see him again.
***
You don’t meet kind Vash on the road the next time you see him. In fact, you could say you don’t see him.
You run into someone as you both try to enter the inn at the same time, butting heads hard enough to make you wince.
“Ah jeez,” comes a voice you know well, “I’m so sorry.”
“Well, if it isn’t Vash, my personal navigator.”
He beams when he realizes it’s you. “It’s you! I knew our paths would cross again soon.”
“And we’re in the same place; a miracle in itself.”
The two of you walk up to the front desk, chatting as you do so.
The innkeep frowns as you approach. “I sure hope you two aren’t looking for a room; we’ve only got one left.”
Quicker than Vash can react, you take his hand and put on a lovesick. “My husband and I are on our honeymoon, so one room won’t be an issue for us, right dear?”
He nodded enthusiastically. “Of course, sweetheart.”
The man frowns but hands you the key. “Well, enjoy your stay.”
You snicker as soon as you're out of earshot and turn to Vash. “Well, dear husband, let’s go get some rest.”
He frowns. “You sure you want to share a room with a stranger?”
You rolled your eyes. “You helped me out when you didn’t know me, think of this as me saying thank you.”
“That was a little different.”
“Just share the room with me, Vash.”
He smiles, a little shocked. “You got it.”
The room in question is a little dusty, and there's a vase of fake flowers on a nightstand that have been there for so long, the colors have faded to gray, and right in the middle of it all is a king sized bed covered in orange bedding. It’s so ugly it makes you snort.
“Nice honeymoon location.” Vash jokes, standing awkwardly to one side.
“Better than sleeping out in the desert.” You tell him, shucking off your jacket and tossing it aside.
“You’re right about that.” He’s still standing stark still, even as you climb into bed.
“Vash, it’s fine. Just get in bed and sleep.”
He flushes. “Oh right!”
Vash takes off his own jacket, which covers a long sleeve black shirt, and clambers into the bed, facing you.
Your noses are touching.
“That wasn’t so hard, was it?” You tease.
“I should tell you something.” He whispers, breath fanning your face.
“Is this where you tell me you’re a wanted man? Because I knew that ages ago.”
His eyes widened. “You knew? And you didn’t care?”
“Of course I knew, there’s only one man named Vash that fits your description. And, as for being scared of you; well, you didn’t seem so evil back in the desert when you helped me.”
The Humanoid Typhoon kisses you roughly, startling you so bad you nearly fall out of the bed. You both sit up and one of his hands circles around to your back, pulling you as close as he can without making you sit on top of him. You kiss back with the same fervor, remembering the heat from his hand on your shoulder and needing it all over your body if he would let you.
Vash opens his eyes (so, so green, like nothing you’ve ever seen before) and he pulls away, embarrassed. “Guess I should’ve asked first, sorry.”
You pull him in and place your forehead against his own. “Believe me, I could’ve stopped you if I wanted to; wanted man or not.”
He laughs. “I believe you.”
And he pulls you into another kiss.
The next morning. When you ask him what direction he’s heading in, he just grins and says: “whatever direction you're headed in.”
