In my strange mind Gwayne reminds me a lot of lana del rey's songs, like: Art deco, Dark Paradise, Young and Beautiful, Videogames. He is literally the archetype of that good knight, the knight who gives his life for his lady/princess/queen/wife and respects her (but also for his people). What drives his actions are not selfish reasons I think, but what he simply thinks it is right to do; that's why I think Gwayne would have been interesting if he was a more gray character (who would have probably jumped from the green side to the black side, or better yet, withdraw from the war since now the ideals that move both sides have taken a back seat and the general context seems more like a massacre of innocents)

Honestly, Gwayne is a good character, albeit secondary and in the Got/Hotd universe there is a real need for characters like him. Suffice it to say that Daeron also grew up "kind" thanks and above all to his uncle, and Gwayne himself seems proud of it.
