so i saw frozen empire last night and other than reaffirming my undying and eternal devotion to ray here's my thoughts (including spoilers):
I was not expecting Phoebe and Ray to basically be the deuteragonists of this movie but i have never been so not disappointed about something in my entire life. I loved both their character arcs and i loved the relationship between them. I love that Ray seems to be the adult Phoebe goes to for advice on things that she doesn't want to talk to her family about, and I love that she calls him "Dr. Ray", that's so cute!
The end to the conflict of "Ray still wants to be involved in the Ghostbusting business, but Winston thinks he's too old" is literally just Ray proving Winston wrong and showing he's still a very valuable asset to the team, and... I have no notes 10/10
The scenes with Phoebe and the ghost girl were some of my favorite scenes tbh, really cute first crush vibes coming from Phoebe, they really nailed the John Hughes teen romance feel they said they were going for in interviews
But also, weird amount of parallels between this movie and the Twilight series??? The Robert Frost poem at the beginning, paranormal romance between teenage girl and supernatural creature, the girl becomes the same type of supernatural creature to be with her love interest, obviously not exactly the same but i couldn't help but notice
Wish they would find more for Janine and Winston to do in these movies, Janine in the GB uniform gave me more the vibes of the Q5 episodes of RGB where's she's in the uniform and with the guys and then she just... literally doesn't do anything. Movie!Janine isn't as bad, but I wish they had more for her to do than show up and say something sassy.
Why did Winston get upset with Phoebe for destroying the stone lion that was attacking her? Why didn't she explain that the possessor ghost made the lion come to life and almost kill her? Did he not know the possessor ghost escaped the lab? That whole scene threw me off tbh
Best part overall was the repossessed podcast scene, i want a special feature on the blu-ray that's just this Ray Stantz Giving Vincent Price Vibes Hosting Haunted Antiques Roadshow scene
tl;dr me too peter im proud of ray for giving up smoking in the 90s

Does Hamilton have abandonment issues? Especially if you look into the exchange between his dad and him, I feel like his dad always asks for money and Alex always unconditionally give them to him.
Hamilton definitely dealt with a lot of abandonment issues, that was especially present in his close relationships.
Hamilton lost many loved ones throughout his childhood, and even later in life but his fear of abandonment definitely had to stem from his childhood trauma. With his father leaving his impervished family in 1765, only to lose his mother in 1768 due to yellow fever when he was eleven years old. After being taken in by his cousin, Peter Lytton, he soon lost that legal guardian too because of an act of suicide, and his uncle - father of Peter - shortly after. Hamilton was then separated from his brother, and despite some communication between the two they never successfully saw each other again. So, by the time Hamilton made it to the colonies, he had lost a majority of his close family and was on his own.
Hamilton's strained but still an attempt of a relationship with his father displays that Hamilton was quite eager to see his father again, but was incredibly anxious about losing contact with him again. Sometime in 1780, Hamilton mentions to Elizabeth that he'll inform James of their wedding and hope he'll attend. But as we all know, James did not attend. Some years later and again, Hamilton is anxious about losing contact with his father so much so that he even questions if James had died;
“But what has become of our dear father? It is an age since I have heared from him or of him, though I have written him several letters. Perhaps, alas! he is no more, and I shall not have the pleasing opportunity of contributing to render the close of his life more happy than the progress of it. My heart bleeds at the recollection of his misfortunes and embarrassments. Sometimes I flatter myself his brothers have extended their support to him, and that he now enjoys tranquillity and ease. At other times I fear he is suffering in indigence. I entreat you, if you can, to relieve me from my doubts, and let me know how or where he is, if alive, if dead, how and where he died. Should he be alive inform him of my inquiries, beg him to write to me, and tell him how ready I shall be to devote myself and all I have to his accommodation and happiness.”
(source — Alexander Hamilton to James Hamilton Jr, [June 22, 1785])
Despite the lack of requited communication with his father, Hamilton decided to name his fourth son after him in 1788. And even when Hamilton was knee-deep in political scuffles, struggling with his work as Treasury, Hamilton never stopped trying to keep up communication with his father. Later on, Hamilton even offered to help James sail over to America, where he would take care of him in his old age. During the August of 1792, Hamilton wrote to Seton asking for assistance with forwarding a letter to St. Vincents to deliver it to his father. Though unfortunately, Hamilton's letter was never actually delivered, so James reached out again reporting delays in his plans to set sail for America due to a war which broke out between France and England. And, well, unfortunately James never did reunite with Hamilton. But regardless, Hamilton was always loyally willing to trust his father and supply him with whatever funds he needed at the time. As if anxious that if he lost communication with his father again, it would become lost forever.
Not only that, but this fear of losing his loved ones was also apparent in his relationships with his lovers. John Laurens was terrible at writing back to people, and his family and friends often reprimanded him for it. So, you can imagine Hamilton's distress when he barely receives word from Laurens;
“I acknowlege but one letter from you, since you left us, of the 14th of July which just arrived in time to appease a violent conflict between my friendship and my pride. I have written you five or six letters since you left Philadelphia and I should have written you more had you made proper return. But like a jealous lover, when I thought you slighted my caresses, my affection was alarmed and my vanity piqued. I had almost resolved to lavish no more of them upon you and to reject you as an inconstant and an ungrateful ___.”
(source — Alexander Hamilton to John Laurens, [September 11, 1779])
And while later Hamilton does admit he also neglected to write, he still faults Laurens more since one of his letters was miscarried. Although just a bit later and Hamilton is desperate to hear word from Laurens;
“That you can speak only of your private affairs shall be no excuse for your not writing frequently. Remember that you write to your friends, and that friends have the same interests, pains, pleasures, sympathies; and that all men love egotism.”
(source — Alexander Hamilton to John Laurens, [September 16, 1780])
He even worries about this in regards to his own wife. Where he even goes on a bit of ramble of his fear that Elizabeth would neglect him;
“It is an age my dearest since I have received a letter from you; the post is arrived and not a line. I know not to what to impute your silence; so it is I am alarmed with an apprehension ⟨of your⟩ being ill. Sometimes I suspect a ⟨– – –⟩ of your letters. Sometimes my anx⟨iety accuses⟩ you of negligence but I chide my⟨self⟩ whenever it does. You know ⟨very well⟩ how precious your letters are to m⟨e and⟩ you know the tender, apprehensive ⟨amia⟩ble nature of my love. You know the pleasure that hearing from you gives ⟨me.⟩ You know it is the only one I am now capable of enjoying. After all you certainly would not neglect ⟨me⟩ if you possibly could. Here am ⟨I⟩ immersed in business, yet every d⟨ay or⟩ two I find leisure to write to my a⟨ngel;⟩ the reason is you are never out ⟨of⟩ my thoughts, and if I had but one hour in the four and twenty to rest ⟨all⟩ of it would be devoted to you. I do not say this to reproach you with unkindness. I cannot suppose you ca⟨n,⟩ in so short an absence, have abated ⟨your⟩ affection; and if you even found any change, I have too good an opin⟨ion⟩ of your candour to imagine you would not instantly tell me of it.”
(source — Alexander Hamilton to Elizabeth Schuyler, [July 20, 1780])
He even thought that she was deathly ill because he wasn't getting a response, and although later he apologizes for over-worrying he still remains adamant she writes back;
“Pardon me my lovely girl for any thing I may have said that has the remotest semblance of complaining. If you knew my heart thoroughly you would see it so full of tenderness for you that you would not only pardon, but you would even love my weaknesses.”
If you thought that him worrying over her being ill was a bit far, he even goes on to worry that Elizabeth - his soon-to-be bride, mind you - doesn't even love him and is simply marrying him out of generosity;
“For god’s sake My Dear Betsey try to write me oftener and give me the picture of your heart in all its varieties of light and shade. Tell me whether it feels the same for me or did when we were together, or whether what seemed to be love was nothing more than a generous sympathy. The possibility of this frequently torments me.”
It is clear Hamilton dealt with some anxiety with the thought that all his loved ones would either leave him, and if not that; than them dying.

“And without rules…?”
“We live like the animals.”
— Winston and the Marquis de Gramont, John Wick Chapter 4(2023)
And yet, no matter how much John resembles like a dog he’s always more humane than the antagonists. He always has held respect for others. (Read me yap about John Wick and the villains and how they’re written)
The thing I love most about John Wick antagonists is that they are a stark contrast to John in one way or another. Iosef is absolutely stupid, Santino kills his own blood, the Adjudicator never once wields a weapon, and the Marquis holds no remorse for any other person. And the biggest distinction from Wick is that they’re all arrogant, prideful and self-centered. Even the Adjudicator, yes. Since they hold so much faith in the High Table and so much ego from working for them to the point of literally raiding a fucking Continental Hotel.
John is very much dog-coded, he’s loyal to his friends and the entire reason why he’s even in the situations seen in the movies is because of his devotion to Helen, his wife. He’s beaten and marked(labeled by the Ruska Roma) several times throughout the series. He fights, he continues fighting, and there’s nothing really to stop him. Sure he’s violent, he’s absolutely murderous considering his final kill count is around 400> in the entire series but one thing to know about dogs is that they’re loyal as hell. It’s seen throughout the movies. Daisy and the unnamed dog— they all stick with John until you know, until they’re not. Even when the Osaka Continental is experiencing yet another raid by the demands of the High Table, John sticks with Koji and Akira until Koji tells him to leave for his own safety.
And for the villains, who are Iosef, Santino, Adjudicator, and Marquis— they all aren’t like John. Which is why three of them(Iosef, Santino, and Vincent) are all killed in the same way.
John has respect for people, even if it’s just a drop. And it’s clear he has no respect for these people. These people think they’re so high and mighty, yet they get killed in the same way as many others, quick and easy; through a bullet in their heads.
They all make good antagonists compared to John. Iosef is a stuck-up, spoiled bastard of a man that doesn’t know who John is and was probably raised in a shitty way by Viggo, Santino D’Antonio has had some history with John but considering Gianna’s dialogue(“I would have considered us friends.”) I’d think that John was more close with Gianna than Santino considering John’s unwillingness to kill her, the Adjudicator has no remorse and absolutely no empathy towards anyone in the series only carrying out the will of the High Table if they so demand it, and for the last antagonist in the series— the Marquis is like every other antagonists we’ve seen so far, a perfect combination to end the series.
Anyways, I’m done and good morning!

Re: The Mentalist. Red John is always there on high days and holidays, but many episodes don’t feature him. Can’t deny they do go on about him a lot though.
White Collar is PERFECT for a good three seasons or so (Talitha78's vid to ‘Tonight I’m Fucking You’ by Enrique Iglesias fills me with glee to this day) but at some point you realise that the same two emotional arcs (one of them is doing sometime secretly but not for the reason you think and the other one is onto their betrayal and now doesn't trust them, then swap) repeat over and over again and never build and I cared too much to stand it and had to stop watching. If you are there for homoerotic frivolity though, I expect that stays steady.
Person of Interest I loved at the time (old men repressed and devoted, benevolent AI god struggles to communicate, eventually lesbians, astolat fic) but since then one of the main actors has gone big as a right wing QAnon weirdo.
If you want Bones but somehow even dumber (ex-Joss Whedon actor stars in a show about an unconventional law enforcement/writer crime-solving partnership) then: Castle.
Best actual crime plots (but not that erotic, except I suppose Goren likely gets a nearly sexual thrill from cracking people's psyches open), and it’s so old they don’t have computers on their desks at first and have to go to the library to look things up- the first 3 to 4 seasons of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. After that Vincent D’Onofrio gets tired and so do the writers.
My actual favourite procedural of all time is Elementary. I won’t say it doesn’t make mistakes (coughMycroft), but overall it is good all the way through, unlike all these other idiots.
THANK YOU FOR THIS. it's so helpful. i have read a lot of person of interest fic, to the point where i actually am not sure that i can watch the show, because i KNOW myself and i know i would spend the whole time being like "and when will they have the episode where the men enter a 24/7 bdsm relationship where sometimes harold keeps john in a sensory deprivation bodybag?
MY thing about procedural is that i'm suuuuch a wimp about murder. i actually cannot watch things that focus on the motivations of serial killers which is why the mentalist isn't gonna end up working out for me. i AM interested in bones, castle, and elementary as i enter this time in my life where i need to be watching something i halfway ignore, but again--i really don't like anything that focuses on murder and murderer rationales because i have a dumb soft little heart and dumb stupid old trauma. it's not all violence, or i obviously wouldn't be so into yellowjackets and tlou. it's literally just people dissecting very realistic murders and the why and how.
so you see why i have not managed to get into a lot of procedurals and why house md changed the entire game

Season 3 of Residents of Proserpina Park has mythological tricksters, character development, and uh, oh right, me! I’m in this season too.
Tumblr media
Season three of @proserpinapark has been something really special. We got twelve episodes rather than the usual ten, we got to meet the tricksters of the park, and the voice actors gave fantastic performances. Oh, and I got to be one of those voice actors.
When we last left our heroes, they had just come to a shocking revelation: the park is named Proserpina Park! Oh, and Sam is back. That’s also pretty important. Ah, but Sam isn’t alone. He’s joined by an old friend named Jessica. She has a freewheeling devil-may-care personality, and a very cavalier when it comes to the creatures of the park. Jessica is back to settle some old business. Business that Dog, the gang’s loyal alien in canine disguise, has some connection to. It has something to do with a particularly mysterious creature.
Alina and her friends are going to have to venture into the depths of the park to find answers. They must be sure to keep their wits sharp. For, in this season, we shall meet the tricksters who call the park home. Meanwhile, Mirai is having her own adventures in Japan. She has found her way to a village populated by yoaki. She’s certainly out of place as a mere human, but she’ll make some unlikely allies during her time in the village. Everyone buckle up, because this season of Residents of Proserpina Park is sure to be a wild ride.
In the immortal words of John Lennon, you get by with a little help from your friends. That is a major theme of this season. It is repeatedly emphasized how Alina’s friends, Drew and Jun, help to reign in Alina and dial back her impulses.
Jessica, a new character from this season, also emphasizes the theme of friendship. She does so as a foil to Alina. Jessica is, essentially, how Alina would have turned out if she didn’t have her friends, or if she had alienated them. Jessica tends to rush in first, and ask questions later, if at all. She tends to focus on whether she can do something, rather than if she should do it. Jessica is determined to become the most powerful being in the park. It doesn’t matter how many creatures she has to hurt to achieve this.
We also get to learn more about Drew and Jun’s backstories this season. We learn that Drew tried college, decided it wasn’t for them, dropped out, and doesn’t have any concrete plans in life. They’re just going wherever the winds of fate take them. Drew is well aware that they will probably part ways with Alina and Jun one day. However, they don’t despair. It isn’t how much time they have with Alina and Jun, but how they spend it that matters. Even if they must part ways eventually, Drew will always have Alina and Jun’s backs.
This is quite a thoughtful and introspective moment from what tends to be a fairly lighthearted audio drama. It rings very true to my own experiences.
Naturally, we get to meet all sorts of amazing new creatures from across World Mythology and Folklore. I had been hoping we might meet Anansi, the trickster spider god of the Akan people, at some point. Lo and behold, this season more than delivered on that. Vincent C. Davis gave such an absolutely wonderful performance. He sounded almost exactly how I always envisioned Anansi sounding. It was pitch-perfect casting. I loved getting to meet the wemategunis. It is a creature from the folklore of the Lenape people. I always appreciate getting to learn more about Native American cultures. I was also pleasantly surprised that we got an entire episode devoted to Mirai’s adventures in Japan. I had been hoping we might get something like this at some point.
Let’s see, what am I forgetting? Oh, right, I’m in this season too. I got to voice Slenderman. He was included as an example of a creature form modern day folklore. This was the first major voice acting role that wasn’t a bit part. I’m very excited that I actually got to be part of Residents of Proserpina Park. I had a lot of fun voicing Slenderman. Angela Yih said she envisioned Slenderman sounding like God from Puppet History of the Universe. So, I tried to mimic that style. I love the distorted sound-effects that Angela included for the parts where Slenderman really shows his true colors. And hey, who knows, maybe you’ll get to hear me again when season four rolls around.
I don’t know what direction season four of Residents of Proserpina Park will be heading, it can’t wait to find out. Season three introduced so many amazing new creatures, but also have character development to the humans. The future is looking very bright for Residents of Proserpina Park.
Have you listened to season three of Residents of Proserpina Park? If so, what did you think?

Today, Live! It’s been a long time coming. 5 + years it’s taken to get a “yes” from Emmy Winner, Tim Busfield. He's so fun! Yay. And away we go!
Tim shares 30 Something, Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip with a guy named Snuffy, and has a huge host of films, TV shows, and more stage performances that I've seen for a screen actor, maybe ever.
From starring on Broadway in Sorkin's A few Good Men, co-starring with Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams, founding two stellar theatre companies, an abundance of service for kids in that regard, Quiz Show, Revenge of the Nerds, Trapper John, for all the seasons with our good friend, Gregory Harrison, Without a Trace, doing double- duty behind the camera, not only acting but directing of many of the above, exec producing Brooke Shields Lipstick Jungle, for one, directing the award-winning Guest Artist, written by and starring Jeff Daniels, serving in the Navy, and, perhaps most importantly, Tim's a lovingly devoted family man -in obviously mad love with his wife, Melissa Gilbert. What a great couple of givers they are, who've been gifted with each other.
I communicated with Tim a few years ago on the Facebook when trying to finagle him into doing this show, and told him about my actress daughter, Samantha. He was so kind. Had it not been for the pandemic, who knows!
Tim's a deeply soulful man, that's clear - and he's funny as... yeah, that. I can't wait for this!

⋆༊*·˚ Which art movement would your FS and you be? Part 2 ☄. *.
“The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths it has its pearls too” (Vincent van Gogh, The Letters of Vincent van Gogh).
In each art movement you can see that certain topics are used… The brushstrokes are not the same, the colours are not the same, the painters are not the same. The aura and its aim are different. Each painting is as different as each relationship. This is part 2, just 3 options to chose from part 1 felt little. If you don’t feel attracted to any of these, go to part 1!

PILE 1
(Ten of shells – The Devil)
Your “art movement” would be Ukiyo-e. Let me quote: “Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art which flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties; kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers; scenes from history and folk tales; travel scenes and landscapes; flora and fauna; and erotica (Shunga). The term ukiyo-e (浮世絵) translates as "picture[s] of the floating world".
I think this is the art movement that represents this couple because there’s a lot of passion and sexual tension with the Devil card. There would be a lot of raw feelings and rough manners and touches. I think you should take a look at some shunga (erotic ukiyo-e) paintings.
But this does not end here! I think that the woman or the one with the most female energy is absolutely beautiful and radiant; the images I am getting are of some of flowers, gardens and cute summer dresses. I think this is not only a carnal relationship but one of adoration. It’s a win from both parts; there’s a feeling of wholeness and stability. And the dates will be so good! Close to the sea, surrounded by nature and flowers and so much beauty.
Artist I recommend: Katsushika Hokusai and The tale of Genji (Book I still have to read).

PILE 2
(Nine of gems – Eight of shells)
Romanticism! As much lovely this name sounds, its actual meaning is far away. It is characterised by individualism, glorification of the past (medieval) and heroic individualists that value their own ideas and feelings more than any other thing, even if that means to part away from society.
I think this couple will have to fight certain social rules or expectations of them. You may even have to fight for your independence and sacrifice some things in the way. A perfect example would be Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, even with the economic circumstances going against her, she remained strong in her beliefs and sense of justice. She would rather stay alone than with someone that she didn’t love; it all had it reward.
I think the most characteristic part from this couple is its strength and will to do what they value and love and it also has to do with some supernatural/occult tendencies. There’s something scary/ too intense going on (Edgar Allan Poe vibes) too.
Artists I recommend: Jane Austen (author) and John William Waterhouse.

PILE 3
(Strength – The Hermit)
Middle Ages Art, Europe (1200-1300), specially the figure of Ramon LLull. There’s a strong feeling linked to religion, devotion and strength. It’s a mix between two sisters: faith and science. Strength toward the exterior and a need of introspection inside of us. How can I explain this?
In the most famous book of this author, Ramon LLull, called “Árbol de la Ciencia (Arbor Scientiae)” (Tree of the science), he uses a metaphor of a three as the representation of each brand of science (we have to understand that in that age “science” does not hold the same meaning). The tree was the body of the universal knowledge, art, science, religion, philosophy. It’s a symbol of life and relationship.
I think this is important because this couple will have everything; you both will be as the three that grows from the universe. You both can have it all; philosophy, art, science… You both have it inside of you. I think it’s going to be such a complete couple; even when different you are made of the same tree.  As if it was the center of the universe; and there will be a strong point of inflexion in religion/beliefs/your divine principles.
I would advise everyone in this pile to read about the "Arbol of science”, if hopefully you can find information of it in English( you will find it in Spanish, though).

ok so you sent me an ask about my tags, but i've always loved yours!!! i like it when people have tags that are poetic or songs or references or inside jokes. how did you choose the ones you use? they all seem related but if there's a story, i'd love to hear it!
I'm so happy to hear that I put so much effort into having a coherent tagging system on here it makes me delighted when people like them. They actually are all unrelated source wise but they are all themed around what I think the character/relationships central thesis is. these are going to be long so I'm going to put it under a read more.
knighthood as religion is dean's tag because I believe his core narrative is centered around being both raised and personally devoted to the idea of being a protector and shield for people but in particular sam in a way that goes beyond duty and exists as a devout calling. without that he lacks purpose and ambition (even though he doesn't but the fact that he actively chooses not to pursue anything outside of this adds to the religious sacrifice inmho) protecting sam, and through assocation, sam himself are his deities creating a very specific moral code that he operates under that only he understands and holds himself too. it's both a critique of his character and what I see as a personal tragedy as john raised him this way and he never really had a choice or an option to exist any other way - the fact that he embraces it is almost a non-existent point because he was created to be duty bound and dies duty bound in a way that he revels and finds peace in because he's always known that was his fate.
the devil that was is sam's tag because his identity is created on being lucifer's vessel despite the fact that his personality and nobility is the antithesis of it. his early narratives are wrapped around him struggling to work against this nature and briefly, embracing it as a means to an end but then ultimately rejecting his function and form and becoming himself again even if it is at a high cost that he never full recovers from. sam is actively choosing to not be what he was created for and so "the devil that was" is this idea that he both was, is, and isn't demonic and in way, that's the only act of agency he's allowed to consistently keep throughout the series. he doesn't own his life, body, purpose, direction, or connections but he did prevent himself from being the vessel of lucifier and I think that's central to the way that I understand and appreciate his character.
two people shorten a road comes from the irish term bóthar with that being it's literal translation as a means of saying "company makes the journey pass more quickly" and that companionship makes life better. I don't use that tag for them anymore because what I like about their relationship has changed but I still think it's a good tag. my brother tag at the moment is just the winchester brothers as placeholder until I find something new. the road leads nowhere is somewhat connected to two people shorten a road and it's my thesis of the show tag about how the entire story is about the fact that they are falling a pre-destined plan (both within and outside of the meta) that their journey is ultimately meaningless and that they revel and seek out that meaninglessness because the road itself is the only home they've known and they have never sought out, or settled at a destination. it's both a jab at the show's insane, convoluted narrative and a mythical commentary on their purpose.
I wait for you at roadside mass is my sastiel tag which I don't use as much anymore because my interest in the ship has waned as I've focused almost exclusively on s1-5 but it's the idea that sam is religiously devout and cas is both a representation of the divine, proof of the divine, and also a vessel for divine love. sam is always traveling and since he grew up in a family that wasn't interested in religion he has no concept of a stationary church or house of worship and so cas in many ways embodies that for him. cas is his holy house and he waits for him by the roadside for him to hear his prayer and create space and connection to the divine.
childhood is a kingdom where nobody dies is my pre-series tag and a edna st. vincent poem (my url is also from an edna st. vincent poem she is a very important poet to me) about the transition from childhood to adulthood and ultimately, the departure for it in a way that feels very appropriate for the winchesters. it's also a play on irony, as their childhood was filled with death and also a bi-product of the death of their mother but also they did not die, and their father did not die and in a way they learned to accept that as long as that didn't happen death lacked permanence.
love is where the knife goes in is my samruby tag and it's just about their jesus/judas relationship just the foundation of what it's like to love your own betrayer, knowing that they plan on wounding you and wincing when it goes in anyway even if you are waiting to hurt them in term and how if you experience that enough you start associating love with wounding, that even the wound itself become a deceleration of affection in its own way.
the motherless oven is my winchester family tag and it's from the title of a graphic novel from the same name that has no relation to supernatural but the phrase has always stuck with me and i feel like it embodies the family well. they are a hot-tempered, relentless family that are all trapped within each other and because of each other and all mourn and represent the absence of mary in their lives. they are both their own tomb and also entombed within their romanticization and martyrdom of mary.
and those are all of my active tags! I still want tags for ruby, john, both of the boys in relation to their father because each of them have a fascinating relationship with him, cas, and maybe the winchesters + cas because that is an engaging dynamic as well. I do not like deancas and don't blog about it but I probably would come up with a fun tag for it if creativity struck me.
thank you again for asking!!! this was so much fun to type out. I've been wanting to write out something like this for awhile because I have put a lot of thought into each tag.

MONARCHIST LEAGUE MEMBERS REMEMBER...

MEMORIES OF PRINCE PHILIP John Yogis, of Halifax, writes: I was given access to The Queen and Prince Philip at various times during their 1994 Halifax visit including the State Dinner. Even though I was in the royal presence for hours I never expected to actually speak to either HM or HRH. On their last day I think I was the only photographer permitted to take pictures at a private coffee gathering following a ceremony where HRH presented Duke of Edinburgh Awards. I snapped away as he spoke to various guests, and then he surprised me by coming over and saying, “I understand you are a law professor?” I replied, “Yes, sir.” He then said, “what the hell are you doing taking pictures”? He moved on and I never had the chance to make a reply. I later realized he had been filled in by the then Chairman of the League branch. I guess that counts as part of a conversation. I must say, however, that I was pleased to get quite a few very good photos some of which I copyrighted. John Fraser, of Toronto, (sometime Master of Massey College) writes: Prince Philip came to Massey College during The Queen’s Golden Jubilee visit to Canada... The College was founded by the late Vincent Massey and its cornerstone was laid by Prince Phillip in 1962. When Philip returned in 2002...the most fun was when I took him on a tour of the quadrangle where hoping to meet him were over 300 of the College community. This included all the members of the Southam journalism fellowship.... When we approached the six journalists, I said to Himself: “Well, Sir, here are the journalism fellows.“ Prince Phillip looked at them suspiciously. He wasn’t the greatest friend the media had then — or now. “And what the devil do they do?” he asked, narrowing his eyes. “Well Sir,” I responded helpfully and enthusiastically, “they get a year off from work, they also get to study any subject the university offers and go on trips of discovery to Europe and other places .” “A bit of a holiday then, is it chaps?” asked Prince Phillip as he kept walking past the journalists who all nodded enthusiastically; but he didn’t linger to hear the answer... “....and a bit of a holiday for your victims,“ he muttered under his breath. But I heard him. The Founder recalls: I covered the Royal Homecoming of 1976 for the League’s publication, Monarchy Canada. It began in Newfoundland. On the first afternoon, Gordon Winter, the Lieutenant Governor, held a reception at Government House for the media on tour (which subsequently took us to Saskatchewan and then Alberta where HM opened the Commonwealth Games). Each of us was presented in a tented receiving line to the Royal couple by our own name and the news outlet we were representing. We were asked to move briskly through it, as The Queen and the Duke would then chat informally with us as we assembled in groups of five or six in the spacious gardens. The Queen smiled and shook my hand; but the Duke, standing next to her, maintained his grip as I began to turn away and shall we say propelled me back, turned to HM and said with great enjoyment, “Did you hear? He’s in competition with us.”  The Queen gave him what one might call her ‘O, Philip’ look, a faint half-smile. I was then released from the tent to the cool of the gardens, only to be kidded in my “group” by Charlie Lynch, the Southam correspondent and a great monarchist. Some years later, in the course of the Golden Jubilee homecoming to Canada, I took my Mother to a Garden Party at Rideau Hall to realize her life-long ambition to meet The Queen - we were presented when a League member’s diorama was given her. I had been at several events during the tour, so was not surprised when the Duke, following HM, greeted me by saying, “Ah, you again!” But my Mother was absolutely thrilled! Judy Hagen, of Courtenay, BC, writes: In the 1980's, my husband, Hon Stan Hagen, was MLA for Comox Parksville. The Queen and the Duke were staying with a friend in Parksville. There were many official functions that the Cabinet (and their wives) attended in Vancouver. At one event, there was a small gathering with the Duke and I was standing beside him. So to make small talk, I said " I believe you are staying in my area at Lady Veronica's lovely home." The Duke replies" I just go where I am told". and then he moved on. My husband was then Minister of Science and Technology so he squired the Duke around all day to show off technology at BCIT and UBC. There was a large official dinner that night. As the Duke walked slowly behind Her Majesty and the Premier, down a row of tables leading to the Head Table. the Duke spotted Stan, stepped back and whispered to him..."so you have to come to this sort of thing too!" Roddy MacKenzie, of Vancouver, writes: In 1993, I had lunch with Prince Philip at the Seaforth Armoury in Vancouver. He's the Colonel-in-Chief of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Kim Campbell was with us in her capacity as Canada's Minister of Defence. Weeks later of course, she became Prime Minister... Moments before the Prince arrived, I asked Kim why she was so excited, given daily she dealt with the highest officials in Canada. She replied: "We are all just politicians Roddy. Prince Philip is ROYALTY."  When HRH arrived, I was the midpoint of the receiving line the ten of us formed to meet him. The atmosphere was stiff and formal.  When I was introduced to Prince Philip, we shook hands. Then he asked what I do when I'm not being a Seaforth.  I replied: "I'm a lawyer sir". As the Prince was about to move on, I added:  "and my wife (with whom he had just shaken hands) is a Judge." Prince Philip stopped so abruptly the senior Seaforth escorting him almost bumped into him. The Prince turned to me said with surprise: "A lawyer married to a Judge?" He paused, looked at us both, and then added: "There isn't any collusion here, is there?" Then he threw back his head and laughed, thereby breaking the formal tension in the room, and creating an amiable atmosphere. Beth McKay, of Ottawa, writes: This memory of Prince Phillip is of one of his visits to the National Capital where there was ecumenical gathering of some sort with religious leaders of many faiths. Unfortunately it was pouring rain and, in his dry humour, the Prince quipped, “Surely between the lot of you you could have done something about the weather.” One of the religious leaders quickly responded, “We’re in sales, not management !”This, brought a smile to the faces of many of those gathered there. On another occasion I had the pleasure of being introduced to Prince Philip in the Officers Mess of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. At the end of his walkabout greeting everyone, he moved to sign the border of his portrait that had been hanging in the mess. When he approached he asked, “Where is the Regimental pen?” Surprisingly, the pen had disappeared . Suddenly a young officer offered his fountain pen to be used. One will never know if that pen holds a place of pride in the Officer’s home having been used to sign the portrait by the Prince or whether the original pen disappeared on purpose ! It will remain a mystery. THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA Message on the Death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh April 9, 2021 OTTAWA—Throughout his long life, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh devoted himself to the people of the Commonwealth and of Canada. He stood by Her Majesty The Queen for more than six decades, a constant and reassuring presence. He valued community, duty and service. He believed in wildlife conservation, volunteerism and supporting young people. A tireless world traveller, he showed that Canada held a special place in his heart by visiting this country more than any other. The Duke of Edinburgh leaves a legacy that has touched so many, especially the hundreds of thousands of young participants in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards program. This program, which he established in Canada more than 50 years ago, has celebrated and encouraged service and excellence among young people across the country and around the world. His Royal Highness understood we must offer the next generations opportunities to succeed, and he believed in the power of youth to change the world for the better. As a sign of our enduring respect, His Royal Highness was made the very first Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada in 2013, a fitting tribute for an extraordinary man. He was also invested as Commander of the Order of Military Merit, an honour that speaks directly to his own military past and his commitment to our women and men in uniform. His Royal Highness devoted his life to his family and to fulfilling his unique role in our constitutional monarchy. Whether speaking with young Canadians about their hopes and dreams, presenting colours and meeting troops at military bases and events, or representing the Crown at state occasions, Prince Philip constantly showed his commitment to Canada. He was a great friend of this country and he will be dearly missed. On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest condolences to the members of the Royal Family.                                                                                                                                            Richard Wagner                               Administrator of the Government of Canada
