guys what's going in with the amangela tag. i love you all what's going onnn this is my home!! our home!! yes, as an angsty, full-of-yearning-and-hope-sapphic, i live here. i really thought somehow we were different with amangela cause amanda's literally married and the two of them are such good friends (they literally call each other 'my familia') that all our 'shipping' is, is just enjoying their dynamic, loving their interactions and their humour. do i write rpf? yes. do i write about amanda and angela? no. i write about the 'characters' of them that i've assembled through all the media of them i've consumed, i don't *know* them, i couldn't write about them if i tried, because they're people, they multifaceted just like you and me. the F in rpf is for fiction. as in not real. i never write with the intention of speculating on anyone's sexuality, that is not my intention, i hope to god my moots and anyone else who knows me understands this. here's some things just in case:

(i cant believe i'm even saying this but) i don't believe amangela are together/have any intention of ever being together, being an amangela fan to me is just loving their interactions & dynamic

let's not speculate on people's sexualities, but also lightheartedly shipping people isn't intended to make a grand statement on them as people, it's just a silly way to smoosh two names together and love their dynamic

amanda and angela are real people. that means they have/had/will have real partners who should not come under crossfire/speculation/jokes. seriously.

amanda encourages edits & rpf, and we love her for that, but that does not mean she's encouraging speculation on her life

since it's the start of a new year and I'm a bookworm, I figured I'd share some of the aspec books I read in 2023. I've added any of the big content warnings I can think of as well as a link to the books on storygraph where there are more in depth content warnings.

Fiction:

Wren Martin Ruins It All by Amanda DeWitt follows the titular character Wren Martin during senior year of high school as he becomes student council president and fights his vice president to try and get the school's Valentine's Day dance shut down. Wren is very much an externally grumpy person who becomes much more loveable as you get to know him and see the reasoning behind his grumpiness. Rep includes asexual main character and an aromantic side character, and note this book is a romance.

Is Love The Answer by Uta Isaki is a coming of age manga following Chika as she tries to find the answer to who she is and explores her identity. This book is full of aro and ace rep with different life experiences. CW for aphobia and attempted SA.

Just Lizzie by Karen Wilfred is a middle grade book following Lizzie in how a science class assignment helped lead her to an understanding of her asexuality. At the same time, Lizzie is having to adjust to a new home and changes in what was once familiar and safe. CW for aphobia, harassment.

Non-fiction:

Ace and Aro Journeys by The Ace and Aro Advocacy Project (TAAAP) is a really great overview of aspec identities, it gives more time to aro identities than a lot of other books, and provides quotes and information from people on various parts of the spectrums. This book brings in some intersectionality, though it is more broad than a deep dive.

Refusing Compulsory Sexuality by Sherronda J. Brown, which has been my favorite read. This book is fantastic if you're ready for a deep dive into intersectionality and some deeper history on asexuality. This book, despite being very short, is a much heavier read content-wise, but it is very thought provoking and will stick with you. Each chapter gives you content warnings up front for the materials that will be addressed in the chapter. Personally, this book has been my favorite book on the subject and I intend on reading it many more times to capture more of the nuance.

one hokma line that always really stuck w me was "when i no longer feared the impending night, i chose to love this place" theres just something so poignant about it. at first i was wondering what day he meant but now i realise he's most definitely talking about how he has to die every reset. and he said he used to fear it too. how could he not? he was most loyal to a, but now he's the last one running away from him. he couldn't stand being a part of his self-destructive plan anymore. and feared in past tense implied he always knew it was coming with each reset. this went on for... thousands of years

with how he keeps his memories for every one of them, sometimes i wonder how he reacts to angela. do you think he quickly got used to it and just sat there waiting for her? pre-suppression its pretty clear that hokma has resigned himself to this and is completely fine doing it over and over again. he chose to love that place because it was the only thing he could really do. its what his mentor wanted and when has he ever gone against that?

Rise of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Angel Grove High Students

A couple more students that attend Angel Grove High School with the Rangers, meet Angela; as well as some freshman who've just moved up from Stone Canyon Middle, Aisha, Rocky and Adam!

Angela Campbell is an older sister by instinct, but no push over. Since the beginning of their Sophmore Year, she's been enjoying a romantic cat-and-mouse game with one Zack Taylor, always interested in what scheme he'll come up with to earn her affections. Of course, he already has them, but the game's a bit too fun to let him win just yet.

Angela's younger sister Aisha, as well as her two best friends - Rocco "Rocky" De Santos and Adam Park - moved to Angel Grove from Stone Canyon to be closer to the Power Rangers, after seeing the reports on their exploits through the R4ngerN3T ClikClak account. The three of them eventually get recruited by Bulk & Skull to help collect eye witness reports and film fights when possible, getting themselves into more trouble those two already do for a good story. Though impulsive, the trio do have great potential that will not go unnoticed.

lingua ignota's music blows my fucking mind!!!!! like the last track of caligula closing out with several minutes of just an absolute overload of noise and nasty screams out of which you hear strings start to rise (it feels like a terrifying swarm and a dreadful sense of clarity) and then it just. cuts off abruptly. done, no regard for easing you out of any of it. and then the album looping back to faithful servant... hearing the same strings come through, feeling yourself dread that it's all coming again, inescapable and awfully beautiful and terrifyingly endless, like being called again and again to something just waiting to do bad things to you

It would make sense if they had their own plot and this was mentioned at the end though, so it can be a thing for the start of BOTH of their next seasons. Eh, I don't know! Anyway :)).
