GW 2022-Day 5: Unwavering (Story)

I was in the mood for some poetry so came up with this amusing and endearing idea. Imagine if Gray had actually written something for her, Juvia would die from happiness. 😂

Title: Our Whole Lives

Summary: Prompted by Erza, Gray decided to write a collection of poetry as his answer to Juvia. Though there was no doubt in anyone’s mind about how he felt, he still didn’t believe he deserved to love and be loved by her. (Post-Alvarez) (includes minor GrayLu and GaJuvia Brotp)

Sneak Peek 1:

Gajeel sat at his usual table with Levy and Juvia. The three of them were chatting about the couple's latest mission when she spotted Gray approaching them.

A smile immediately lit up Juvia's face and she waved at the ice mage, who also smiled, though rather nervously.

Gajeel rolled his eyes. "What does he want?"

"Be nice." Levy warned.

Juvia stood just before Gray had reached the table. "Morning, darling. How did you sleep?"

"I slept alright, thanks."

Gajeel noticed he was holding something. An envelope. He wondered what that might be.

Juvia beamed. "Isn't it a lovely morning today?"

"Sure." There was no denying the ice mage's anxiousness. Gajeel didn't like that one bit. Narrowing his eyes, he inquired; "Is there a reason you're at the guild so early?"

"You're not usually up yet at this hour." Levy remarked.

"Well, I've been waking up a lot earlier recently." Gray told them, and the way he glanced softly at Juvia, who smiled knowingly, left no doubt in Gajeel's mind of the reason why.

"I see." Levy grinned.

"Hey, do you think I could speak to you?" The ice mage took Juvia's hand.

"About what?" Gajeel inquired, but was ignored.

"Of course." She nodded and let him take her away from the table, towards the entrance to the guild hall.

Before they were too far, Gajeel warned. "You better not disappoint me, Fullbuster."

Gray stopped and looked at him, his expression showing a strong resolve. "I won't."

Sneak Peek 2:

Juvia let him guide her outside the guild, towards the river. Once they stood by its edge, Gray nervously scratched his throat.

"So, I have something for you."

Her eyes were drawn to his free hand where he held an envelope. Curiosity bubbled inside her. "What is it?"

"Do you remember when we spoke before the war?"

"Of course." Heart racing, Juvia started to piece together where this was going. Could this be the moment she had always dreamed of?

"I promised you that I would give my answer once the war was over." Gray remarked, squeezing her hand as he gazed at her determinedly.

"Yes, but there is no rush." Juvia smiled gently.

"I've kept you waiting long enough." He gave her the envelope and Juvia let go of his hand to hold it. Something told her this was the most precious thing he had ever given her.

"Erza suggested I could write to you." Gray explained. "I know how much you enjoy reading, so I tried my best."

"Thank you." Juvia was at a loss on what to say. This was so unexpected; nothing like she had imagined. She felt overwhelmed but also ecstatic knowing what awaited inside the envelope.

"Well, I'll let you be." With one last nervous look, Gray left her. Her gaze followed him as he disappeared inside the guild. Then, once he was gone, her attention returned to the envelope.

Juvia sat on the grass, opened it and took out the carefully folded piece of paper. She began to read, and as she carried on, her heart swelled with adoration and pride.

"Hey, Gajeel" Levy walking over to the dragon slayer and his cat. Gajeel looked up, "Hey Shrimp, Wha' do ya want?" "I can't say hi to my boyfriend?" Levy asked hugging him. "There's nothin' wrong with it, I was just wonderin" Levy was about to say something when Juvia walked up behind Gajeel and slung her arm around him "Hey Gajeel-kun, you ready?" Gajeel rolled his eyes "Do I have to?" He whined. Juvia looked up at him with her puppy dog eyes and said "No... But you promised Juvia you would" "Ughh, Goddamnit women you're gonna be the death of me." "Please, Please, Please" Juvia repeated about 100 times. Gajeel then screamed "FINE!!!!!!!!!!" "Yay" Juvia jumped up and down. Both of these actions gained the attention of the guild. "Where are we going?" Everyone in the guild was staring at the two ex-phantoms conversing. Juvia pulled on his shoulder and stood on her tiptoes and whispered in his ear. Laxus, who was the closest to the pair, spat out his drink and started to laugh. Naturally, the guild turned towards the Lightning mage who was chuckling, suddenly he was swarmed with questions from various guild members (MLGLF). During the chaos that was Laxus actually laughing, Juvia and Gajeel had sneaked out the guild. 

"Wait, Where did they go?" 

“Aww, I wanted to ask Ju something." 

"Laxus are you okay? Guys pay attention to Laxus" 

"Maybe they went out shopping?" 

“I bet they're on a date" 

That last comment got the attention of the entire guild. Murmuring began across the guilds, ideas being thrown everywhere. Juvia and Gajeel had been hanging out a lot; lately, they went out shopping, well it was more of Gajeel being dragged around the mall by Juvia and her conceiving him to get her at least one thing. In all the commotion Laxus was still laughing, it seemed to be or directed at his guildmates theories.

"Laxus did you hear what they said?" Mira asked 

"Yah"  

"Well....?" 

"Well... What" 

"What did they say," Mira said clearly annoyed at the man. 

Laxus smirked at the frustrated barmaid "Why should I tell you?" Mira whispered in his ear, Laxus rolled his eyes at the matchmaker's antics as he whispered back in her ear. Mira's face went in total shock.

*TIME SKIP: 4 HOURS*

Juvia and Gajeel walked into the guild, Laughing their asses off. "What's up Juvia?, You wanna go on a job with me?" Gray asked "Umm... Sorry, Gray-Sama-" Gajeel cut in "She's hangin' out with me tomorrow, Fuck off Stripper" Gray Gapped (and so did everyone else in the guild). Juvia Lockser, his girlfriend, who had been in love with him since she met him, blew him off for Gajeel Redfox, her friend, not her boyfriend. Gray was jealous, to say the least. 

"So, what did you get Juvia?" Laxus asked. 

"Huh?" Juvia tilted her head in confusion. 

"Don't act innocent, I know where you two went"  

"We didn't' do nothing" Gajeel spat back 

"Yeah right Metal Head." 

"We were just out," Juvia said confirming Gajeel's previous statement. 

"Doing what? Fucking" Gray spat at his girlfriend. 

"Juvia would never" Juvia said very offended. 

Gajeel made a disgusted face. "I would never see Juvia in any way other than a best friend. Gray, I would never expect you to accuse her of that" 

The two looked over at Juvia who was on the verge of tears, and Gajeel was ready to kill Gray. 

"You two have been hanging out a lot lately" The ever so helpful Natsu Dragneel commented 

"Yeah," Levy said with a hint of venom in her voice while glaring at Juvia 

"What's that weird mark on your neck Gajeel?" Lucy inquired.

Gajeel quickly grabbed the back of his neck a glared at his best friend. "Sprinkler, You said the potion would last a week" 

"Oops" Juvia Shrugged. 

"Gajeel what is it" 

"IT looked like a hickey" 

"No, Gajeel wouldn't do that would he?" 

The guild was filled with whispers about what could be on Gajeel's neck. Juvia and Laxus both were laughing their asses off, and Gajeel's face was red. "Wow, I thought at least some of the people here were smart" Laxus commented, while Juvia was still laughing.

"It's a-" Juvia tried to talk, but she could only laugh at her best friend. Once she finally got all the laughs out of her, she let out a slow breath "It's a tattoo, you dumbasses." Everyone looked at Juvia like she had just murdered someone. It wasn't because Gajeel has a tattoo, that was expected, but because Juvia cursed. "Gajeel..." Levy looked at him, hurt and on the verge of tears 

"What's wrong Shrimp?" Gajeel started freaking out. He didn't like it when his girlfriend cried 

"You told Juvia about your tattoo before me, your girlfriend. She's not your girlfriend I am, you're supposed to tell me everything, not her." Levy was crying. This may seem petty, but Levy already was jealous of the other blue-haired girl in Gajeel's life. They spent so much time together, especially this past week.  Lucy ran over and glared at Gajeel while she hugged her best friend. 

Juvia calmly got up from the bar and walked over to the two girls. Levy about to run out when Juvia blocked her way. Levy tried to push her out of the way but failed 'Juvia is really strong, or I'm just really weak' Levy thought to herself still trying to push past the water mage. "Levy, please listen to Juvia" Juvia begged of the smaller mage "Fine."

"Gajeel and Juvia have been best friends since we were children, You know that" The script mage nodded at the water mage. 

"In Phantom, almost every adult had a tattoo, it was almost like a right of passage for Phantoms to get tattoos." 

Levy looked at the mage, almost as if to say 'what does that matter' Juvia sighed.

"We were young and dumb. Juvia wanted a tattoo, and he wouldn't let Juvia go alone. So we got tattoos together. He got a Gear made of water, and Juvia got a water droplet covered in rusted metal. As for why we've been hanging out for the past week. He was on a mission during Juvia’s birthday and said he would do anything to make it up. So Juvia thought you would understand Juvia borrowing him for a week. Juvia hasn’t had a lot of time with him, he is Juvia’s best friend, and I miss hanging out with his, he's always really busy with you." Levy felt really guilty at that moment. It was true Gajeel spent all of his time around his girlfriend. 

"As a present, he took us to our old favorite tattoo parlor, in oak town, so we both got new tattoos. Juvia is sure he'll show it to you.  Right Screw-Brains?" Juvia giggled at her old nickname for him.

"Right, Rain Woman!" The entire guild was in shock, mainly because Juvia, Little innocent Juvia, had tattoos. 

People looked back and forth between Juvia and Gajeel, 

Levy gently tapped Juvia's shoulder. "Uhh, Juvia..." A worried Levy pointed towards Gajeel who was about to punch Gray in the face 

"GAJEEL-KUN" Juvia screamed and ran over to grab his arm and next thing you know he was on the ground. "Don't punch my Gray-sama" She yelled at him. 

Gajeel just snickered "You have tossed me around like that since Phantom." 

Gajeel stood up and whispered in her ear. An ear-splitting screech came out of Juvia, followed by Gajeel's chuckling. 

Juvia grabbed him by the ear and pulled him out of the guild, as she was walking by Levy she said "I'm borrowing him for tonight and tomorrow," 

"Gray-sama, please don't kill Natsu" 

"I'll try" Gray screamed after his girlfriend. 

"Laxus, what did they say this time," Mira asked as he was chuckling 

"Juvia," Laxus said in a voice clearly trying to inmate Gajeel "What will happen when Gray finds out where your other tattoos are." Laxus managed to get out while laughing. 

Gray eyes grew huge. "WHAT!!!!!!!!"

AU Gajuvia Brotp Headcanons

-Gajeel has been best friends with Juvia since middle school. Though they’re close, they never dreamed of dating each other since they love each other platonically. They also don’t have that “oomph” that you need to love romantically. That didn’t stop the mean kids at phantom high to tease them endlessly

-Juvia was bullied pretty badly when she was younger for being a loner and “gloomy”. Kids also used to tease her for carrying a Teru Teru Bozu doll around even though she did that since that was the last thing her parents left her. 

-When she met Gajeel, they didn’t get off on the best terms. Gajeel particularly didn’t like how she would let everyone push her around and she didn’t like how he never cared for human connection even when so many in their class wanted to be friends with him.

-This translated to Gajeel picking on her a bit during class and PE.

-Later, tension built up and they fought. Surprisingly Juvia got the upper hand till a teacher pulled them away and scolded them both. Juvia was scolded more harshly, which wasn’t unnoticed by Gajeel.

-Gajeel goes to the library after he sees a pile of water leading there. He hears sniffling and sees Juvia crying while listening to rock metal music in the corner. 

-Gajeel goes to apologize and says she has guts. They have a heart to heart where he asks why someone with guts would let herself be pushed around, and she yells saying she doesn’t know why he doesn’t want any friends. They both realize they are both loners who no one understands, till then. 

-Gajeel then asks what she is listening to, and he realizes it's also from his favorite band. 

-This is when they’re friendship starts. Gajeel tells Juvia to be more confident, and maybe fight if she wants to. They also meet in the library to hang out every day and get away from the others. Gajeel refuses to call them friends, but he can’t help crack a smile at that thought. 

-After learning to stand up for herself, it turned out Juvia actually loved fighting, and Gajeel would love to fight alongside her. And so started, Gajeel and Juvia life on the dangerous side in highschool.

-When Gajeel and Juvia got to high school, Juvia wanted to get a side job so that she could afford all her rock metal merch. Gajeel says she can try being a band manager for a band he and another buddy were thinking about starting. By this point they had to stop being so dangerous if they wanted to get the band off the ground, but they still retained some of their habits. Gajeel more so than Juvia.

-Juvia goes to a rival college with Gajeel, phantom college.

-Juvia goes on a swimming scholarship and also performs on the dance team. She is a business major and dreams of producing music.

-In college, Gajeel is studying to be a detective since he found that was his true calling.

-Every birthday, Juvia would get Gajeel a fund scavenger hunt to solve since he loves those. (Kind of like Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec if anyone has watched that.)

It was a gift of being from a notorious guild, and also the curse of rain that had people scattering from the streets when Kurogane and Ameonna walked through Oak town. But neither paid any attention; both were too used to isolation already.

As their jobs got darker and more violent, the pair got to see how fragile allegiances could be, even those who claimed to stand by some moral code would abandon each other when they realized they were close to losing. They learned never to trust, even their own fragile friendship tittered on the edge.

But they had found their own small treaty. They bonded in their pain and hatred and soon were as close to friendship as they had been in years.

Wise men wonder while

Strong men die

They had seen how their master would sit in his office, planning attacks and sending his soldiers out to battle, sacrificing who he had to in order to win, punishing any who dared to fail. But they couldn’t leave, not when they had fought too long to get to the top, not when they had created a place for themselves.

Both knew that this would end in a painful death. They would keep fighting until they were beaten or their bodies would give out. But that was fine with them, as long as they would go out fighting, as long as they could hold off their pain as long as possible

Only after years of working together would they allow each other to see their softer parts. The children locked inside that had been abandoned and left to fend for themselves. The hurt souls who knew no other way of comfort than to lash out at the world around them. These moments were only shared few times, but they were enough for the two to bond.

The pain they brought others alleviated their own suffering a bit, but it did nothing to fill the need for love. And the two were fine with that. Love had hurt them in the past. Parents who left, people who could never understand deciding it was too much to try to fix them. People who only saw broken, gloomy, dark souls and decided they were not worth the effort. The two decided they would never undergo that pain again. With every job that passed, they had a new attempt to alleviate the agony in their souls, a new try to hurt someone else for a change.

Then they had been beaten, and joined the guild that had trumped them; Fairy Tail. They were going to make this family work, or at least they hoped it would. But first, they would have to lay their pasts behind them. They would have to stop mourning for the children in the past.

Never would they have imagined they could find the light. All they had ever dreamed for themselves were lives of desperate hunger, of desperate fighting and surviving. But apparently, they were allowed to try for a life of joy. It seemed as though they were living in someone else’s life for a bit.

And though they were still fighting, suddenly they felt something foreign; hope. They felt the rush of uncertainty. There was a new way to live now, for the future. Never had they felt so much promise before.

The past would be left where it belonged, in the furthest parts of their minds. For now, they could focus on how to make themselves better, how to find the love they were so desperately searching for. To find a place where the pain could no longer touch them

Suddenly there was another option for their futures. They could be happy, they could have everything they never thought they could. The pair was shocked to find out the option of a family was available again. And for the first time in forever, they were ok with that.

And now the could fully be open, to themselves, to each other, and to their new found friends and family. They could be as silly and emotional as they please, and no one would hold it against them. They could explore all the neglected parts of themselves, and could grow out the distressed children they were and into the experienced adults they could be.

They were finally complete, him with his bookworm and her with her ice mage. Their hearts were no longer void, and their hopes had been fulfilled. Every day they appreciated how light their souls felt, how empty of pain and despair they were.

The children inside them smiled, for now, that they had joined a new guild, they knew that they would be ok in the future.

They finally admitted to themselves how desperately they wanted a family, and they would fight for it now, fight for themselves and for each other.

The loneliness had vanished, and as Gajeel walked Juvia down the aisle, his own wife waiting at the altar as a bridesmaid, he remembered the one risk that his best friend had taken, that had pushed him to try. And finally, after years of strife, they were both at peace.

Jealous

Summary:

Juvia has been spending a lot of time with Gajeel lately, and Gray doesn’t like it. He decides to follow them while on a mission and drags Levy along. Gruvia and Gajevy with some Gajuvia and Gravy brotp. Takes place after the grand magic games ish, so Gajevy is not together yet.

“Be right there Gajeel-kun!” Juvia yelled out to the dragon slayer. They were ready to go out on another mission. ‘Why is she taking so many jobs’ thought Gray. This was Juvia and Gajeel’s third job in the last week and she was barely at the guild anymore. Moreover, anytime she was spending at the guild, she was often seen sitting with Gajeel. She hadn’t been as clingy as she normally was either. She still gave him heart eyes and called him Gray-sama, but things were different. Gray against his better judgement, couldn’t help but wonder if there was something going on between Juvia and Gajeel. 

“So, how long have Juvia and Gajeel known each other,” Gray asked the celestial spirit mage sitting across from him. He tried his best to act indifferent, but Lucy knew better.

“Well, they were in Phantom Lord Together, so quite a while I assume.” Lucy observed. Gray’s eyebrows began to furrow in frustration. 

“Well, were they always this close?” he grunted. His usually cool demeanor failing him in the process.

“They are pretty good partners,” Lucy admitted, “They’re like Natsu and me when you think of it.” That was it for Gray. If they were anything like Natsu and Lucy then he had to know what was going on. He looked at the job request board and found that there was a job in Kunugi which was just a little past Onibus, where Gajeel and Juvia were going. He hurried over to Mira to accept the request. Even he wasn’t so sure why he felt so compelled to see Juvia and Gajeel.

“I’ll take this job!” Gray exclaimed as he slammed the flyer onto the counter. Mira looked at the flyer and back at him in confusion.

“Gray? This job doesn’t really seem your style. It asks for a well read wizard, someone that can break a curse. I’m sorry Gray, but this seems better suited for someone like Levy, but if you're looking for a job, I have a perfect one for you. A couple of igloos were destroyed at the Phoenix Mountains a few days back and they’re looking for an ice wizard to help rebuild them. Plus, the reward is better than this job too.” Mira noted. Gray thought about the job, it really was made for him, but the Phoenix Mountains were on the other side of Fiore and he needed to know what was going on between Gajeel and Juvia. 

“Thanks Mira, but I think I’m going to decline. I just-- uh really want to visit Kunugi. I heard there was- um some nice stores there-- yeah stores. I need to get some new clothes anyway,” Gray managed to get out, quite unconvincingly.

“I’m sorry Gray, you’re just not suited for this job.” sighed Mira. Gray was almost ready to admit defeat, but just then a little bluenette script mage walked in. Gray suddenly had a new idea.

“Hey Mira, If I’m able to get Levy to go with me, will you let me take the job?” he asked hopefully. Mira nodded in response, and Gray rushed over to Levy pulling her away from her seat. This earned him some protest from Jet and Droy, but he paid no attention to them.

“Gray! What are you doing!” yelled Levy as she was being guided to the counter.

“Levy please take this job with me!” pleaded Gray, his motioned in the direction of the flyer. Levy took a look at it, satisfied with what it was asking, but looked back at Gray in confusion. Sure the ice mage and her were fellow nakama, but they didn’t typically interact with one another, let alone go on missions together.

“I like the job Gray, but it seems like something Shadow Gear and I would take. Shouldn’t you take that other job.” Levy motioned to the other flyer Mira had pulled out.

“Please Levy, you can have all of the reward if you want, I just want to head over to Kunugi,” Gray admitted. This threw the script mage off even more. Why was Gray asking her to go on a job that he didn’t even want the reward for?

“Okay, I’ll go with you,” Levy agreed and Gray perked up at the sound, “ If you tell me what this is really about. Why are you picking this job over then one that is clearly made for you.” Gray let out a sigh of defeat, ‘guess there is no point in hiding it’ he thought.

“ Fine, the truth is Kunugi is pretty close to Onibus and that’s where Gajeel and Juvia are for their job. I know it might sound weird, but they have been really friendly lately. I just want to know if there is something going on between them. It’s not like that’s a bad thing or anything, it’s just that it’s good to know which of your fellow nakama are dating, right?” Gray rambled. Levy’s cheeks grew red, Juvia and Gajeel? She never really thought of them as a couple. Though now that Gray mentioned it, they were hanging out quite a lot recently. Levy felt herself grow curious.

“Okay, let’s go!” she said excitedly. She bid farewell to the rest of Shadow Gear, which left Jet and Droy very confused. Team Natsu was used to its members taking jobs on their own or with other people. Hell, even Gray took a couple jobs with Juvia before. Shadow Gear on the other hand always did jobs together. Gray knew that they probably suspected something, when Levy took this job with him. What he didn’t know was that Jet and Droy believed that Levy and him were an item, and were planning on getting back at Gray for it.

Their job went quite well. At first Levy incorrectly translated the curse and a few monsters were released, but Gray was able to defeat them easily with his ice-make magic. She got it right the second time though and Gray was ready for her to take all the reward money as promised. However, Levy was adamant that they split it, so they did. Later they decided to get off at Onibus instead of Magnolia to check how Gajeel and Juvia were doing.

“ How do we even know if they are still here?” asked Levy. Gray couldn’t explain it, but something told him Juvia was still there. He had somewhat of a radar for her. It came in handy, especially when he was trying to avoid her. Although, this time it was him trying to find her.

“ They’re here,” Gray said bluntly and Levy nodded, not wanting to question the ice mage.

“So Gray, when did you start liking Juvia?” Levy asked innocently, which got Gray all flustered.

“What do you mean?!?! I don’t like her!!” Gray yelled, but the blush on his face said otherwise. 

“ Then explain to me why exactly we’re here?” Levy retorted. The blush on Gray’s face began to deepen in color.

“Well, you know because Juvia is my fellow nakama, and I’d like to know if she is in the right hands with that Gajeel. He’s such a brute, it is only right to keep an eye on him- “

“What are you talking about! Gajeel is nothing short of a gentleman,” Levy interrupted, the color of her face soon matched Gray’s.

“ Now you are one to talk. It’s obvious you have a thing for Gajeel, you’re like his little cheerleader,” teased Gray.

“That’s not true--” yelled a now very flustered Levy, “ might I remind you, it was you who asked me to come on this mission!” 

Gray laughed at the smaller mage, she really was quite lively. In a large guild like Fairy Tail, it was hard to get close to everyone. Levy was one of those people who he always admired, but never really got a chance to know. He was glad that he had the opportunity to know her better, even if he was the one dragging her around Fiore. Just then, he spotted Juvia and Gajeel walking together. He pulled Levy to the side, so they wouldn’t be spotted. Levy understood what was happening and kept quiet despite Gray’s roughness.  They were too far away to hear what they were saying, but close enough to see what they were doing. Juvia seemed to be resting her head on Gajeel’s shoulder as they walked, and Gray had to stop himself from leaping out.

“Gajeel-kun, Juvia is sorry for crying like this,” Juvia blurted out as she buried her head on Gajeel’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry about it, just tell me what’s wrong sprinkler,” Gajeel said softly. He patted her a few times on the head, This was his weird way of comforting her.

“Juvia is thinking of giving up on Gray-sama,” she admitted. 

“That stripper, well good riddance. He’s not good enough for you, but why are you doing this now?”

“Juvia realized that Gray-sama does not feel the same way about Juvia as Juvia feels for Gray-sama. Juvia does not want to bother Gray-sama anymore, so Juvia will leave him alone from now on.” She let out a sob after that. Gajeel stopped walking and pulled her in for a hug. For a while, Juvia stayed crying in Gajeel’s arms. However, this looked a lot different for Gray and Levy who were still watching intently.

“Why are they hugging for so long!?” questioned Levy, who appeared just as angry as Gray was at that point.

“I don’t know, maybe we should go over there…” 

“No,” insisted Levy, “I want to see where this goes.”

After crying for a bit, Juvia finally calmed down. “Thank you Gajeel-kun, Juvia is so lucky to have an amazing friend like you!” Gajeel blushed at the comment. “Anyway, how are things going with Levy?” she asked. It was now Gajeel’s turn to be frustrated, he let out a long sigh.

“I like her a lot, and I think she might like me back. Still, after all the awful things I’ve done, I don’t think that I'd be good for her, ya know.” admitted Gajeel.

“Juvia thinks Gajeel-kun is underestimating himself. Gajeel-kun is so kind, and him and Levy-san would make a very cute couple,” Gajeel blushed again at the comment.

“Gray sure is an idiot! Juvia you deserve so much more than that stripper. Though, I’m not sure if you should give up on him just yet. It’s that big heart of yours that everyone loves. Hell, if it wasn’t for that heart, I don’t think I would have ever joined Fairy Tail.”  Juvia smiled at his comment. At that moment, She noticed a stray feather that had gotten stuck in Gajeel’s hair. She reached up to get it, but was interrupted by an angry Gray and out of breath Levy.

“Don’t kiss him!” yelled Gray.

“Huh?” Juvia let out. A flustered Levy grabbed onto Gajeel, her eyes filling with tears.

“Gajeel, why didn’t you tell me that you and Juvia are dating. I get it, she is taller and has bigger breasts than me, but still.” This caught Gajeel by surprise. He looked over at Juvia who only shrugged at him.

“What are you talking about! I’m not dating Juvia!” yelled Gajeel loudly.

“Gajeel-kun and Juvia are just friends,” added Juvia.

“What?” Gray and Levy both said simultaneously.

“Yeah, me and the sprinkler are just friends. What got it in your head that we were dating, and what are doing in Onibus in the first place,” Gajeel stared daggers into Gray.

“Wait, if you two aren’t dating than why have you been going on all these missions together,” asked Gray.

“ We’re nakama, that’s what you do with your comrades idiot. Plus, Juvia is the best friend I got around here.” he added with a blush.

“What about that hug we just saw?” questioned Levy, “you guys were embracing for a long time?”

“Oh, Gajeel-kun was just comforting Juvia. Juvia was upset about Gray-sama and Gajeel let Juvia cry on his shoulder for a bit,” Juvia added.

“Okay, but you were about to kiss him weren’t you?” Levy asked again.

“You leaned up all close to him, it sure looked like you were about to make-out” Gray said through gritted teeth.

“Oh that?” Juvia blushed, “I was just taking a feather out from his hair.” she pulled out the feather as proof to show to Gray. Both Gray and Levy were a little dumbfounded, they had really misinterpreted the situation. They all stood in an awkward silence, until Gajeel decided to interrupt.

“I’ll ask again, Why are guys even here?” . Gray opened up his mouth to come up with some excuse, but Levy beat him to it.

“ We’re sorry Gajeel. Gray thought you and Juvia were dating, so we accepted a job in Kunugi and decided to come over here to see for ourselves. I’ll be honest Gajeel, I didn’t like the thought of you with another girl, so I had to come!” Levy explained, and with that the truth was out. Juvia looked at Gray who focused his eyes back onto the floor, but they both understood that that was their cue to leave.  Gajeel took out his arm and gently bonked Levy on the head.

“ Who said I ever had eyes for another girl,” Levy looked up, tears welling in her eyes.

“Gajeel--” she let out, but she was interrupted by a kiss from the iron dragon slayer himself. It was soft and innocent and totally unexpected from someone like Gajeel.

“ The only girl I want is you, shrimpy.” he said as he bonked her once again on the head. Levy smiled back at him and put her arms around him for a hug.

Meanwhile, Gray and Juvia walked in silence. Juvia looked over at him several times, but Gray’s eyes were focused on the floor. He felt a little embarrassed for thinking that Gajeel and Juvia were dating and for coming all the way out here.

“Gray-sama?” Juvia let out. Gray didn’t respond and Juvia frowned in response. She didn’t want to bother him any more than she had been these last few months.

“Juvia,” Juvia turned to face him immediately, “ so why were you upset?”

Juvia felt herself getting embarrassed. “ Juvia was upset because she was planning on giving up on Gray-sama. Juvia feels bad for bothering Gray-sama this entire time.” she admitted. Gray let out a long sigh. He hated that he was the cause of her pain.

“Do you know why I came out here, Juvia?” Juvia shook her head in response, she had somewhat of an idea, but it confused her why Gray would care if Gajeel-kun and her were dating. Gray looked like he was about to say something, but instead he buried his face in his hands and groaned in frustration. 

“Gray-sama?” uttered Juvia.

“God Juvia, do you know how frustrating it is seeing you with him. I know you’re friends, but when I see you two together, I just want to---”

“Just want to?”

“ I just want to do this,” he grabbed Juvia and kissed her quite ferociously. Needless to say she was quite taken aback, but after some time she melted into the kiss. 

“Gray-sama?” she said, wide eyed and out of breath.

“Sorry Juvia, I needed to do that. God, I know I’ve been awful, but I like it when your mine Juvia. I hate to admit it, but I’m the jealous type, especially when it comes to you. I may be too late, and you might want to give up on me, but I need you to know Juvia, I love you.” Gray turned a bright shade of red when he was met with silence.

“ Gray-sama,” she said after a while, “ Juvia really wishes Gray-sama told her this before she started crying on her mission today.”

“ I know, I’m sorry for making you--” he was interrupted by Juvia wrapping herself around him.

“Gray-sama should know by now that Juvia will never stop loving Gray-sama!” she purred. Gray let out a sigh of relief and hugged Juvia tight, he would never let anyone else have her, she was his.

The two new couples returned to Magnolia together. On the way there, Gajeel and Juvia shared embarrassing stories about each other from their Phantom Lord days and Gray and Levy couldn’t help but laugh. However, when they got to the guild hall, Jet and Droy had other plans for them. As soon as he walked in, Gray found himself immobilized by plants and then in a flash covered with a mysterious sticky liquid.

“ No one dates Levy without our permission!” yelled Droy loudly. Gray seethed with rage, but Juvia’s laugh calmed him down a bit.

“Juvia thinks Dory-san and Jet-san are a bit confused. Levi-san is dating Gajeel-kun, not Gray-sama.” explained Juvia. Jet and Droy shot devil eyes at Gajeel, but he responded with a playful ‘gee-hee’ and began to chase after them as they ran in fear. Levy followed behind him, making sure that he didn’t hurt the weaker mages.

“I’m surprised you didn’t go all ‘love-rival’ on Levy after hearing that.” commented Lucy.

“Juvia knows that she has no more rivals for Gray-sama’s love,” she mused as she pulled the now sticky ice mage in for a kiss.

                              Chapter 6: Her Strength

"I can't believe Fairy Tail is disbanded." Gajeel glanced around as everyone regrouped to discuss Master Makarov's statement. I feel so different than when Phantom Lord disbanded.

"I know." Levy frowned. "I'm not ready to say goodbye."

"I felt the same way when I left Edolas." Lily told them. "But I'd rather see this as an opportunity to try something different."

"Like what?" Gajeel asked. I don't know what my life is outside of Fairy Tail anymore. What will I do?

"Oooh I could work at the National Library in Crocus." Levy's mood lightened once she considered this.

"A library? Really?" He raised a brow at her.

"It's a wonderful idea." Lily told the petite woman with a bright smile. "We should all do something we love."

"What about you, Gajeel?" Levy turned to him, brown eyes shining. "What would you like to do?"

Gajeel thought about it, but nothing stood out to him. No immediate plan or dream. However, once he looked at her one thing became clear. I wouldn't mind having her around, wherever I decide to go.

In the end, they decided to join the Magic Council after a suggestion from Warrod and an offer from Jura. Being in the Custody Enforcement Unit turned out to be a lot of fun and the trio really enjoyed their missions.

Gajeel also liked having a certain status once he was wearing the uniform, since people looked at him with admiration and respect. It was a high contrast to the days he used to be in Phantom Lord or even before that, when everyone would stare at him in fear.

What he enjoyed most about this job, though, is that he was granted access to files that the Council had on everyone. This allowed him to learn the whereabouts of former Phantom Lord members such as Sol and Aria.

Tracking down Juvia also became easier. She had disappeared after the disbandment without even a goodbye, presumably following Gray. However, no one knew where they were, not even the Council.

"She looks great in that picture." Levy suddenly came behind him as he sat on a chair in their shared apartment.

They had decided to move in together soon after joining the Council. While the primary reason for this choice was being economical, there was also the fact that they started dating not long after the war against Tartaros was over.

"She looks happy." Gajeel didn't tear his eyes from the image of Juvia from an old edition of Sorcerer Weekly.

"I know you're worried, but we'll find her." Levy squeezed his shoulders gently.

Will we? Doubt filled him and he placed the magazine on the table with a sigh. "What time is it?"

Lily, who was waiting by the door, answered. "Almost time to go."

"We shouldn't be late." Levy warned while getting a cup of coffee.

"I know." Gajeel said, thinking back to the meeting they would have soon. "According to what I heard, these Avatar guys are no joke."

"I am curious to find out more about them." Lily stated.

"Me too." Levy offered Gajeel the coffee.

"Thanks." He finished the drink in record time.

"Great. Now you go get dressed while I finish cleaning up the kitchen." She told him and stepped away, but he grabbed her hand.

"Wait." After he pulled her close, she turned around in confusion.

"What is it?" His answer was to kiss her, which she soon reciprocated. Gajeel pulled apart and smirked at the look on her face and blush on her cheeks. "Now I can get ready."

                                 September, X792

After a year of searching, Gajeel finally found her during their mission to take down Avatar. Juvia was proven to be alright, but he was suspicious and decided to keep a close eye on her.

During Fairy Tail's reunion, everyone found out the hard way that something was definitely wrong once she threatened to kill Lucy.

After watching her interactions with Gray and word choices, Gajeel quickly realised that it wasn't really her. No, someone must be pretending to be her.

But that wasn't the case. Once she let Lucy go and warned Natsu to get her to safety, Gajeel saw the Juvia he knew. While briefly confused, he quickly came to the conclusion that she must be under someone's control. Zeref? Is he the one behind this?

Gajeel tried to get her back, believing their friendship should be strong enough to break whatever spell she was under.

He wasn't the only one.

"I love you." Gray confessed without hesitation and Gajeel was surprised, but also glad. It is about damn time.

Juvia was back, but before anyone could rejoice, she had grabbed the dagger which had almost killed Lucy. "What are you doing?" He asked even as he knew. She wouldn't. She can't.

But she did. Gajeel watched in stunned silence as she stabbed herself, but inside he was screaming. You idiot! What the hell do you think you'll accomplish with this?

He wanted to talk to her, but Levy suggested he let Gray do it first. Eager as he was to rush to Juvia's side, he held himself back. Maybe Gray can convince her to come to her senses.

Apparently, he couldn't. When he tried to stop her bleeding, she refused. Does she really want to die?

After she said that she wanted to be free, Gajeel grew angrier. Not like this.

"We'll find another way." Gray promised.

Damn right we will. But first, I need to know what the hell is going on. "Free from what exactly?"

"From Lilith." Mirajane answered, surprising everyone. Wait, who?

"Who?" Erza asked, now back to her normal armour.

"She's one of Zeref's demons." Mirajane explained. Of course. This makes sense.

"How the hell do you know about her?" Gray asked, glancing at her in surprise.

"I've been looking for her for a while." She answered. Well, you've done a terrible job apparently.

"Gray..." Their attention soon returned to Juvia who was getting concernedly paler. She needs to be healed and now.

Gajeel suddenly remembered Wendy and looked for her just as Gray did. "Wendy!" They screamed in unison.

After receiving a nod from Natsu, who held Lucy tighter once she began to wake up, Wendy ran towards the ice mage.

"Please, you have to save her." He pleaded.

"No." Juvia protested. "We have... to stop Lilith."

Gajeel frowned before he let go of Levy's hand. "Wait...Gajeel..." Her protest was unheard as he rushed towards his dying best friend and knelt by her side.

Once he had her attention, he told her firmly. "There must be another way!"

Juvia was about to say something, but the arrival of an unexpected ally caught their attention. "Gajeel is right." Everyone stared at Doranbolt in confusion and shock while Gajeel was suspicious. He used to work for the Council. Why's he here?

"Mest?" The first person to properly react was Cana. "What are you doing here?"

Gajeel frowned. Mest?

"I've missed you too, Cana." Doranbolt said with a familiar smile. What is happening?

"You sure took your time coming back." She noted with slight annoyance, crossing her arms.

Before these two could properly catch up, Gray spoke. "You said there's another way to save Juvia. What is it?"

Doranbolt looked at him, but didn't answer right away. "Gray, I am sorry it has come to this. If I had known that Lilith was possessing Juvia, you both wouldn't have to suffer so much."

"It's not...your fault." Juvia told him, weakly.

"There's no way you could've known." Gray said.

"We had no idea that she could even possess people." Mirajane informed, making everyone look between her and Doranbolt.

"We?" Cana asked, a hint of jealousy in her tone.

I'm so confused. "Seriously, what is going on here?" Gajeel asked, fed up.

"We'll explain later." Doranbolt turned to Gray and Juvia. "Now we must stop Lilith and save Juvia."

"How?" The ice mage asked, hopeful. Why is he taking so long to explain this?

"Mirajane will take over Lilith, then Gray will eliminate her." Doranbolt answered.

"Of course!" Mirajane exclaimed. Why didn't she think of this before?

She approached the couple and Gajeel reluctantly stepped away, allowing her to kneel down by Juvia's side.

"Mira..." Juvia whispered, barely able to keep her eyes open.

"Please save your strength." Gray pleaded, squeezing her hand again.

"She...so strong." The only reason she could be heard was because everyone had fallen silent.

"She should be weakened now that you hurt herself." Doranbolt said.

"I'll be fine." Mirajane assured, placing a hand on the water mage's shoulder.

Gajeel gasped once a dark blue smoke suddenly came out of Juvia's body and enveloped Mirajane. Is that Lilith?

"Mirajane?" Lisanna asked her older sister after a moment.

"i can handle it." Mirajane opened her eyes and Gajeel could tell she was struggling to control Lilith.

"Gray, it's your turn." Doranbolt called the ice mage who was staring worriedly at Juvia, who had fallen unconscious.

"But Juvia..." Gajeel placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'll stay with her."

"And I'll heal her." Wendy told Gray.

He looked between them unsurely. After taking a few deep breaths, he nodded. "Okay." He gently kissed Juvia's forehead before carefully passing her to Gajeel.

Once Wendy started using her magic to heal the water mage, Gray stood and faced Doranbolt. "What happens now?"

Touka?

Drabble based on fist two chapters of the sequel:

Gajeel stared at the loud girl in front of him, running her word through his head.

“…Briar” …

While she was busy naming all the girls she knew were part of Fairy Tail, she also slipped in names associated with Gray’s past, which wasn’t surprising considering many had probably learned as much by now about him.

However, it was “Briar” that stood out in that list. Why would this random girl know the names of their enemies, who they fought individually, and what confessions were  made on the battle field?

There were ways one could obtain that information, Gajeel supposed, but his gut clenched, and it was as if a dark shadow fell over the girl. Suddenly Touka seemed very… suspicious.

“Hey, Juvia”

“Yes?...”

Juvia was fuming, sitting at the table, trying not to look too much at Touka, who was busy explaining to the girls what exactly about “Natsu-sama” was so adorable and endearing.

“Don’t get too friendly with that one”, - he stated shortly.

“Juvis wasn’t planning on-,” – she turned abruptly to her friend, showing him a look somewhere between concern and surprise.

True, Juvia wasn’t Touka’s fan, definitely not from first impression, but Gajeel never advised her on matters concerning the circle of people she build around herself.

Not unless he was worried.

“What’s the matter?”- she wondered, shifting on her seat to face him.

“Briar.”

The name immediately resonated in Juvia’s memory. Both a pleasant and an unpleasant experience, given Briar had eyes for Gray and apparently intentions to start making advances, which were ever so gracefully water-clawed-short right there and then.

“Isn’t that person not a problem anymore?,” – Juvia asked, sure Avatar enemies wouldn’t make another appearance now that Zeref was defeated.

“Something about her knowing that name…”- Gajeel kept his eyes locked at the girl, and Juvia saw him sniffing the air a bit.

He didn’t have to say anymore. In fact, he didn’t have to say anything really. Gajeel only had to hint that he was suspicious of someone, for Juvia to know that there were legitimate reasons behind those feelings.

Her eyes narrowed, and she turned in Touka’s direction, sizing her up, like she usually did with potential enemies. Her clothes - were those normal? What about her hair style? Expensive? What’s her background? Her shoes looked new, does she not travel on foot much then? Her accent? Her age? She passed the ability test. Who does she look at? She’s not trying to impress Master and doesn’t seem like she’s interested in Laxus either, so it’s not power or authority that she’s after...

“If she’s interested in Salamnder…” – Gajeel trailed off.

“He might be in trouble,” – they both silently concluded as their eyes met.

Juvia and Gajeel gave the girl another look, before a faint smile appeared on the blunettes’s face.

“Guess Juvia should probably take care of that,”- she didn’t really ask, prematurely getting just a little bit too excited. And maybe a pinch too eager.

Gajeel smiled back, but only for a second, before adding with more concern in his voice than before.

“Be careful. And don’t let her out of your sight.”

“Yes, Juvia will certainly keep herself close to Gray-sa-to this woman, especially since she really wants to see Gray-sa-Natsu-san and there’s probably no stopping her so it’s best if Juvia just heads out with her to find Gray-sa-Natsu-san, in case she does decide to go find him…” – she finished awkwardly, smiling with no regrets.

“Don’t be so transparent either,” – he finished before ordering another drink and returning back to his table.

AN\: Oooooh things are spicing up already! I absolutely Love that the first chapters had so much Juvia in there, and apparently there’ll be an interesting dynamic between her and Touka, one we haven’t seen before! I really like that we get to see Juvia’s prickly side, she’s so adorable! I hope if the girls do go find team Natsu, that Gajeel tags along... Hopefully there’ll be some gajuvia brotp in this storyI

People often ask me: "Why you stopped drawing Gruvia?"

As i alredy said, when I first started drawing them, they were unpopular and almost unknown. Now we have a many wonderful artists who draw Gruvia, and I'm happy about it. So I almost stopped drawing them.

I would say that my OTP is Gruvia and BroTp is Gajuvia + sometimes GaJu is my OTP. And those drawings where Gajeel and Juvia are shown as a romantic couple don't belong to the real "Fairy Tail" universe, and I love them as alternative characters (similar to my OC from the rock'n'roll universe)

I'm still drawing only what I want, and that's why I'm unpopular (or because I'm lazy?)
