Oh boy, are you ready for a long post?! Because I do have a good amount of ships that I really like in jjk! ^w^

However, I shall list them all off from most popular to the more niche ones that I really love. Keep in mind this is my own opinion and that I honestly have a monkey brain, so my explanation for why I like them may seem incoherent. =w=;

Well! Let’s go! My favorite ships in jjk!

Gojo X Geto

Let’s start with the two strongest! I ship them because of the their opposite ideology when it comes to strength. They are also foils of each other in a lot of way. They may be different but are very similar too. And like, I love the little interactions between them, and how at the end of the Hidden Inventory Arc their ideology switch! Plus… It’s a very angsty pairing too, and I do love me some angst~ >:3c

Yuji X Megumi

Another pair of opposites! I normally don’t really ship the protagonists with the deuteragonist in Shonen series, but I do here in jjk. Because they actually feel like friends in the beginning that can grow into something deeper. They are opposite once again due to their ideology. Yuji want to do his best to save everyone, while Megumi is more picky.

However, they are also similar in a sense that they value their own life less than others. Both are basically suicidal which is excellent for some juicy angst~~ X3c

Yuta X Maki

“Whaaaaa? Yuta and Maki? Isn’t Maki a lesbian tho?” I hear the fandom say. In which I respond “Nah, she’s Bi~”

Okay, but in all seriousness. I do ship them a lot tho. There just so much content and moments with them, you know?! Like and they are a pair of opposites yet again! They are extremely strong but their ideology is different. Maki is a starch individual, who fight for her own self love and not really for the sake of others. Whereas, Yuta fights for the sake of others that he love, but not really out of self love for himself. The chance for character growth for both parties are huuuge! :3c

Kasumi X Kokichi

What else is there to say about this ship? But that it’s an excellent tragic love story~

Okay, but like with all the other ships that I love. They are a pair of opposites that are very similar. Kasumi is considered “Useless Miwa” while Kokichi is one of the strongest of the Kyoto Kids. But both have a deep desire to connect which is a rarity in the whole of Jujutsu. However, due to Kokichi’s flaw, he pushed Kasumi away due to her weakness in order to protect her. But it was this very action that hurts Miwa the most. It’s all very tragic and I love it! >:Dc

Nobara X Mai

Okay, I seriously love this ship. Like sooooo bad! Like it’s my favorite!

The huge reason why I ship them because of the opportunities they could have if they bonded and get to know each other. It’s the whole enemies to lover trope! Like they hate each other at first, but here’s the thing. They may be different but they are also very similar too. Both are essentially normal bitchy girls. However, both express their girlhood differently, Nobara is egotistical and is very confident. Whereas, Mai have very little self love and is not at all confident.

Both had a chance to learn and grow from each other! And I’ll be forever saddened that it’ll never happen in the manga. ;—;

Junpei X Nanako

“Huhhhh??? That’s a ship??? They don’t even meet in canon tho!”

And yes! It is true that they haven’t meant in canon. But this is where you have reached the point of the post where we are straying from cannon and into this AU fic series that I’ve been hyper-fixated on for months now.

The fic where we first see their interactions would be in “Exponential Growth” in where Nanako and Mimiko are transferred to Junpei’s school just before winter break. And their friendship and interactions is just *chef’s kiss* I love it so much! Like Nanako sees Junpei for who he is, and still accepts him since to her “he isn’t boring at least.”

Plus! It’s the loser boy x popular girl trope that’s so much fun! *w*

Nanami X Michi

Oh yeah, we are heading into the Cannon X OC territory now, babyyyyy! I don’t care if you think it’s cringe! Cringe culture is dead! Michi is an OC within the AU, but like he is written so well and have such a compelling arc! He first appeared in “Exponential Decay” and have another major role in “Exponential Growth” too. But the fic within the AU that had me actively start shipping Michi with Nanami is “Butterfly Curve”.

Like I don’t wanna say too much, but if you read those scenes and interactions, you would ship them too! Hopefully anyway… •3•;

Naoya X Li

Oh boy… Now this ship is gonna be the most controversial one due to Naoya being Naoya. It’s another Cannon X OC ship. The character Li appears in “The Inugami Family” and she is such a compelling character.

Here’s the thing, both Li and Naoya are very similar despite their different circumstances within the clan. Both bonded over being essentially alone. For they are not being their true self, and only hide it. Li, pretending to be perfect, while Naoya plays up his horribleness. Both have such an interesting and nuanced relationship. It’s twisted and messed up, but it’s the one that they only had.

Super good! Highly recommend checking it out! ^w^

aaa it’s ok!!! I was sooooo excited hearing my name too LOL

as for favorite player characters… for campaign 1 Kyborg!!! He’s so goofy and silly and stupid, I honestly never expected to love him so much but omg before the Spectril brainrot i was CRAZY for Kyborg too. he’s just??? So???? HEHWHWHEHWHEHWHWHWHWHEEHWH

I think it’s also because of his whole arc in Armageddon plus his backstory… I love me a traumatized man/j

Im really struggling for the second campaign though… like ok can I be honest here? I love both campaigns, I really really do love the work the cast puts into each episode!!! But for some reason the second campaign hasn’t exactly… captured my full attention? I don’t know how to word or phrase this, but as funny and amazing and cool Groteth is… it hasn’t exactly drawn me in as much as the Infinight campaign did. I really don’t know what it is, like literally they still have the same humor, rp and y’know all that, but like… I don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really want to say though I am between Mathide and Chip, mainly cuz Chip is a tiefling rogue (assassin too) and omg I LOVOOVOVOEEEEEE that. He’s also very funny, and love how his wife is missing (I miss my wife tails. I miss her a lot.), but also Mathide is just… so relatable. LOL

I think I liked Duran and uhhhhhh what’s her name again? Barbara’s character in the mini campaign, the Euthagenia memes are taking over my head so I can’t remember her name…

I am also going to use this ask as an excuse to talk about my other favorite characters that are NOT player characters!

From the Infinight campaign, everyone that knows me or have seen my stuff SHOULD know who my favorite NPC is here. I love him so much!!! Spectril, just, AUAAUUAUAAUUAHHHH

however I would like to say that I LOVE all of the OG Infinights too! I sooooo wish we had more on Elleve and Grissly, sad the women get barely any screentime :( I also wanna know more about Fred and Elleve!!!

Back to Spectril though, there’s SO much I love about him. Not just design and voice (aka physical attraction) but literally he AUUAUAUAUGHHH

his whole little arc within Wight Winter? His introduction with his bust at the library? Just. I don’t know how to explain this without making this whole post about him. Maybe after this.

The mini campaign didn’t have many npcs… but I will say I absolutely LOVED the references to the main 4. (Well, 3. Idk if Gum Gum had one, I can’t hear for shit)

Campaign two should be a little obvious but omg I LOVE LIMBER LIZZIE. THEY ARE SO COOL. BADASS. YOU GO LIMBER LIZZIE. oh and uhhh what’s her name? Franceska? Robert’s wife also the Wolfman’s girlfriend?(/j) yeah she’s cool too

I'm back to rant about more winter thoughts. So I thought more about the VA's voice for her and how the VA thought "will my voice really suit that character" lol but eventho I would prefer winter with a deeper voice (she has moments in the manga when she would suit a stronger voice imo, like when she snaps at milo) I think it shows her softer side well (especially towards alice) and is a nice contrast. This got me thinking about soft winter and you know those people who grab onto others jacket or hoodie sleeves (me) yeah I just think that would make winter go really soft!! Allow me the indulgence!! Also just think about her voice (like her VA or something a bit different) but with a British accent! After all most of the characters (the moriarty's, Spitz, Elmer) have British accents. Just thinking about it makes me 😵‍💫. OH! You know now that I think about it I think the VAs who voiced James Bonde/Irene Adler from Moriarty the Patriot would suit winter nicely too! That's kind of the voice I imagined tbh!

You're right! Her voice really does match the soft side of Winter! Uhhhhggg, now you got me thinking about soft Winter!!!!! 🙈 Ahhhhh my hearts going to explode!!!!! I'm definitely one who would grab the bottom of a shirt/jacket, or the back! When we pull on Winter's clothes, she would be like, "what do you want?" With a tone that sounds a little annoyed, but actually isn't. Then I would at least stay silent/flustered, or say "nothing...." Then Winter would huff and a couple things could happen! Either she'd get flustered herself, or she'd just say/do nothing and walk off with us in tow (to hide her flustered state), ooooo maybe if we're SUPER close with her, she'd take our hand and hold it in hers while looking away!!!! 😍 Not gonna lie, I love the, "I wanna hold your hand, but I don't want others seeing us hold hands, so I'mma just link one finger with yours" trope. Ooooo, would Winter's hands be cold or warm???? I'd say cold, but only because I automatically associate her with anything that metaphorically deals with the winter season.

I've thought about the British accent and pictured her with it so many times!!!! I've also researched a tiny bit to figure out how the English differ in speaking to Americans (idk if this is accurate, but I saw somewhere, that they say cuppa instead of "a cup of tea" and I started crying so hard when I read that, cause it was sooooo cute!!!!! I imagined Winter saying it and I cried even more!!! I thought I was gonna die from the cuteness!)! There was so much information, I got a little overwhelmed, but at some point, I'm going to write a story where you can tell Winter speaks in a British accent! Also, I've spoken with someone from Britain and her accent doesn't sound like what you hear on TV! If I remember correctly, it's because she's from the country and the higher class citizens are the ones who have a stronger accent (someone, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!). The Moriarty's would DEFINITELY be high class, so they'd have strong accents! 😆 Idk what kind of family Spitz comes from, but I can see him being lower class, so he wouldn't have a heavy accent (from the recent arc, Night and Alyssa would have heavy accents, the security guard's accent would be so heavy it'd be hard to understand him, I can see Chelsea and Yudi not having as heavy of accents and I think Hutter and Marsh can go both ways.).

Since Winter is really good at disguises, I'm sure she'd be good at accents, so sometimes, I picture us going up to my friends and playing tricks on them by Winter pretending to be a different person and see how long we can trick my friends into thinking Winter is somebody else. I also think Winter would have random (fake) business cards on her and if we ever ran into a business man, she'd pretend she was also trying to promote her (again fake) business. 😂

Also, it doesn't really matter, but I thought Elmer was American? Or is he just working in America?

I've actually only seen the dub for Moriarty The Patriot, so idk how he/she sounds in Japanese. The dub sounds pretty good for if that VA ever voiced Winter (not gonna lie, when I was trying to convince myself Winter was a guy, as a joke, I said Howard Wang could voice Winter, because if he had to do a little girls voice, he could hit it perfectly. 😂 He's voiced cross dressing men and sounds exactly like a girl!).

Things are about to go to shit in one of my D&D games

Sooooo. My Wednesday campaign is in character arcs and we’re in my characters arc. My character’s name is Thyneros Hymn (Thyn for short) and he’s a Tiefling Swords Bard (my first ever bard) and things are about to go to hell and back. Why do you ask? Lemme tell you xD

So the DM and I have been talking for months now about Thyn’s backstory cause he has one where he’s former military from a dictatorship nation and had to fake his death in order to get out since the longer he was there the more he was like “This isn’t right” and cause of that the higher ups were like “Lets send his squad on a suicide mission and if anyone lives we’ll just execute them”. Thyn lived but made it look like he had died and went out and joined up with two members of the party a year after he left. We’re doing the part where he just bumped into a childhood friend, well the only childhood friend that survived since all of them went into the military and they’re gonna be meeting up to have drinks next session (he’ll probably tell more of their friends and who knows if any of them will rat Thyn out to the higher ups xD). He’s lost a lot of friends and so he knows how it feels to lose someone and he does regret faking his death for the friends still alive, especially his childhood friend (who was also his first sexual relationship/lover/crush that they didn’t say anything to take it somewhere cause duh and now he’s courting a party member who is jealous of what happened xD)

But that’s the current time backstory cause you see Thyn has a secret backstory that he doesn’t know about. He has been reincarnated for 2,000 years since ancient history of the game and has been through a lot of lives. So much so that his luck has started to run dry (explaining his terrible rolls) and the BBEG is the one that's been causing this. Thyn has scars from the injuries that has killed his past lives 5 that he knows about and 1 that he doesn’t know about. He’s been covering them up for ages and after this he’ll stop since they’ll be flaring up in the next couple of sessions.

However! This is not what I mean by things are about to go to shit! What I mean by that is that Thyn is gonna die once everyone knows everything about him including the reincarnation shit. All drama and tragedy things I love. So first character death incoming. But here’s the thing. He’s gonna get revived with no memories and be on the BBEG side (queue Winter Soldier meme of “Thyn?” “Who the hell is Thyn?”). He’s still the same in terms of class and personality but he’s just devoid of memories of the party and I get to play him xD So the party can still kill him the second time around and it will be permanent that time but I don’t think they will cause they’ll figure it out and not kill him xD

Till such time as that happens and his memories come back and he re joins the crew, I will have a temporary character (who has already rolled better starting stats than Thyn). Said character is a Female Wood Elf Scout Rogue named Velia Waterseeker who is mute. I wanted to play with disabilities and I’m good at being descriptive since I’m a theater kid and writer xD I went female cause I was like “I’m not romancing anyone with this character” since Thyn’s still around soooo xD

But yeah! Shits gonna hit the fan and hit hard with this! And I’m so hyped cause this has been in the works for MONTHS aka September so I’m looking forward to how the party reacts to this xD

blake and emerald honestly DO wind up similarly, its just that blake CHOSE to leave home and emerald was either orphaned or abandoned.

and yang and mercury are what would have happened if taiyang had been less loving and more cruel after raven left and summer died and marcus had been less cruel and more fatherly.

Yes, you're absolutely spot on. Neo makes a lot more sense now, and I think they created her background consciously with this foiling in mind (considering the original circumstances of her inception).

Of course, you know me: Cinder and Emerald/Mercury are also Jaune and Nora/Ren.

But yeah, I love the foiling and parallels because you get to explore the same idea in different circumstances, challenge your own narrative (would Ruby have been able to persist in Cinder's circumstances?), as well as execute a lot of narrative shorthand that makes up for your runtime. It's very efficient and I love it. It's also brain candy for me, because I love picking out patterns.

I had a reblog yesterday from another Tumblr user adding onto a post about Cindemption saying that the death of idealism in Cinder's eyes is why she can't be redeemed, and I truly don't understand that; Cinder's circumstances in contrast to Ruby's are like, emergently why I think her redemption arc makes sense. Otherwise you're encouraging the idea that you can be born wrong, or born right. It's luck of the draw otherwise.

Unless the narrative specifically goes out of its way to say that Ruby never has her optimism tempered (a type of fairytale optimism which let Cinder down; just hold on a little longer, suffer a little more, and you'll go to a Huntsman academy. Oh, yeah, it's Atlas, so it fucking sucks, look at what happens to Winter later), so equally Cinder never has hers challenged. In that case, I'd think the narrative poor, because Cinder and Ruby are thematic tempering answers. No sorrow, no joy.

I Love Matthew Fairchild aka Incoherent Thoughts about Chain of Iron (2021) by Cassandra Clare

I made one of these rant-rave reviews for SJM's book so check it out if you want, no pressure tho lmao.

Aight so I finished Chain of Iron last night and OMG I HAVE TO YELL like I loved it sooo much like yooo, I have a lot to say. I know the book is new so... beware for spoilers plebs.

Also context: I been reading the Shadowhunter books since I was 12 and I'm 19 now *insert dead emoji face* so yeah, I'm just so happy rn with where the Chronicles have come and the fact that they’re still ongoing *insert uwu face*. I remember when in like 2014-2015 or something when Cassandra Clare teased that Will and Tessa's kids' generation was gonna get a trilogy set in Edwardian London, loosely based on Great Expectations, and holy hell? I think that was perhaps one of the best days of my life considering how much I adore The Infernal Devices (that trilogy really changed the way I see YA literature... don't ask cus I won't shut up about it) (also yes I read TMI and loved it too but there's a “generation gap” between TMI and the other Shadowhunter books stylistically so don't ask me about that either cus I also won't shut up).

Anyway, shoo from here if you want a critical essay on Chain of Iron. I'm not providing that, this is just me raving here for the fun.

Listen... I want the bulk of this to just be two main things: The Matthew Situation, and then all the literary and judeo-christian meta aspects of it.

BUT I ALSO NEED TO TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE SO FRICK LET'S JUST START WITH THE OBVIOUS SHIT LIKE THE PLOT AND WHATEVER

Okay, the plot and writing and shit, let's get that out of the way:

The WHOLE Jack-the-Ripper-esque ambiance was just sooooo good man wow like I did not expect the book to take this cold turn but it worked so well. There was such a contrast between Jamie and Cordelia's warm little house and then the cold winter and the stabbings and shit and it felt like a nice little callback to the actual Ripper phenomenon that preceded them and a nod to the Whitechapel Fiend story from Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy.

Bitch OFC that whole thing with Wayland was a set-up like nawww that was too easy to spot and I get why Cordelia feels like shit about it.

Dawg Lucie was just the Among Us imposter here in that my girl was just venting and sneaking around with dead people and I was like nooooo girl run, don't deal with Fade this is a set-up THINK ABOUT JULES LUCIE THAT'S LIKE YO GREAT-GRANDSON *sobs* but yeah anyway my girl has death powers she gonna kill some bitches next book.

You see that confrontation between Lilith and Belial? MASTERPIECE DIALOGUE like this was the point within which I was just like "yo is this the book of Genesis or a YA Fantasy novel" like when Lilith said "I may have been cast out but I did not fall" like??????????????????? I YELLED she did not have to END Belial like that. What a bad bitch.

More on Lilith and Belial... "You, who brought nations into darkness? Shall I finally be able to tell the infernal realms you have gone mad, lost even the image of the Creator." HAHAHHAHAHA SHE SAID "YO BELIAL GO GET SOME THERAPY AND GET OFF MY ASS" LIKE??????

Ughhhh yasss Clare has improved writing diverse characters in this book compared to in The Dark Artifices in my opinion... I'm not gonna expand on it cus ain't nobody got time for that but like, I enjoyed how she wove Persian poetry and tales into the story and the way in which she writes Cordelia and Alistair. They're not caricatures of Persian people but rather multi-faceted beings who also happen to be Persian and I appreciate that. Also, Alistair and Thomas and Anna and Ariadne were just so fun and interesting to read as coupbles but also as individuals. She really higlighted diversity in a very natural manner. All I need is a hijabi character and I’ll die a happy woman lmao.

The level of META man like the references to Classics and art (I swear, she might have compared Matthew to angels out of Caravaggio AND Rosetti AND Boticelli paintings and I Am Living For It) and just all the quotes from holy books and shit omg I love it here like you really feel catapulted into the time period, she draws reference to external art and philosophy so well and I feel like she upped the notch on it in this book (didn’t know that was possible but it was the prose is BEAUTIFUL, archaic, but not pretentiously so). No, like the characters live in their OWN worlds of literature and art and history in the way we are living in THEIRS. They quote Wilde and Milton while we'll quote Clare. It's awesome.

This is an unusually structuralist take even from me but: I like the way the milieu social of the book, i.e., the high society Edwardian circles and their values, have a direct influence on the plot. James and Cordelia got married because society’s values essentially forced them to, not a demon. Cordelia abandons Jamie at the end of Iron because her shame as a woman in society and fear for her reputation made her, not a demon. Thomas and Alistair can't be together solely because of how Alistair tarnished the reputation of the Fairchilds and Lightwoods by using the horror of infidelity against them. Issues relating to marriage, gender roles, etc, stemming DIRECTLY from the time period rule the sequence of events to the same degree as the epic fantasy aspects (demons, Princes of Hell, the lore itself) do and I LOVE that dear God above.

OKAY THE GOOD SHIT LET US TALK ABOUT CHARACTERS AND SHIPS (N.B. but imma discuss Matthew and the Fairstairs situation separately below this portion):

Alistair's redemption arc: No, cus Alistair's redemption arc is honestly amazing. He really did change and it's not like his betterment as a person was linked to any one heroic deed but rather he simply decided he wanted to be better especially for his family and he decided to become a proper protective son, a caring brother, and an amiable friend. He fully owned up to his Malfoy tendencies and apologized without expecting forgiveness. He shows how he cares in the little ways and omg it's so sweet and tender. I really do want him to love himself now and be embraced by Matthew especially and the rest of the Thieves.

Dawg Lucie and Jesse are so funny to me like it's so hilarious how this girl fell in love with a whole ass ghost that no one else knows about like HHAHA. Are Lucie and Jesse my ult ship ever? Nah, but it's nothing to do with Clare, it's just that their relationship happened pretty quick and feels quite like something epicly romantic that Lucie herself would write. I just like slow burn and friends-to-lovers the most from Clare. To be honest part of me just wanted Lucie to not have a romantic arc all together but like, it's all good, I'm not complaining.

Okay Grace- like yooooooooooo I never hated her yunno. She has been abused and isolated all her life. It's not that she is a bad person, but rather that she does not know what being a person even entails. Can't even say she's a “doll” of a person cus she's never even been pampered like one by her family. I really started understanding her motivations since when they gave us her half-childhood with Jesse. I want better for her but cmon can she REALLY be saved???

GRACE X CHRISTOPHER *pretends to be shocked*... Okay, sometime in the middle of the Dark Artifices series some big brain put together a very thorough family tree of the families and like, it clearly showed that Grace and Christopher got married so like, lmfaooooo, I knew this was coming one way or another, but the journey to this ship is more important than the destination. Like in a way Christopher is such a cute baby lamb that it makes sense he'd end up being immune to her Grace-ness when he's just a cute little Einstein boiii. Like this is just so funny to me cus he's so oblivious to social conventions while she makes the milieu social her entire life so OFC it's gonna work. Like, this is such a worlds-colliding trope like just Give It To Me.

James and Grace - aw mannn Jamie just had me fricking wanting to hit a wall every two seconds cus like yooooooo every single time I think he and Cordelia are gonna stop being emotionally-constipated spouses, Jamie says some kinda shit like "omg me and Daisy are just friends uwu" like DO I NEED TO HIT YOU?????????? See I can't blame him for not slamming the door on Grace's face even tho he totes should- Jamie is so cerebral and kind that even if Grace wasn't using the enchantment on him, I think he would always be soft for her even if it isn't in a romantic way. There's just so much miscommunication cus like he said "Thank God" when she broke off the engagement with Charles and lowkey embraced her but it also wasn't his fault cus it wasn't even romantic BUT OFC IT LOOKED HORRIBLE TO CORDELIA like James literally never told the woman at least once that he loved her so OFC she thought she was back to square one with him dear God above what a mess. Not his fault, but she DID set down one rule for him: don’t cheat with Grace. And yeah even tho he hasn’t properly cheated, it must FEEL horrible to her cus she’s just been enduring the pain of their unrequeted love for so long :((

Cordelia is such a MOM like she's so mature and stable and her self-preservation instinct? OFF THE CHARTS I love this woman like James definitely treated her well as a hubby but like I JUST WANTED HER TO HAVE CLOSURE ABOUT SOMETHING and boy oh boy she did get that closure she got it good but not from the person she expected in the LEAST *hehe* *pelican screeching*... like Lucie was being sus with the whole ghost business and James was being just, quite a case, dealing with Grace and Belial right and I don't blame them at all for their secrecy and shit but her FATHER DIED and her friends were hiding a lot from her so in a way she turned to Alistair for help but he could only do so much cus of his own pain (she couldn't even talk to her mom cus she's pregnant and she doesn't wanna stress her right) and then there was this emotional block between her and Jamie, Lucie was often absent and conspiring with the dead... the last person remaining was HIM (imma discuss this soon), but yeah my heart just went OUT to her cus she's tryna save herself and her family and she just doesn't know what to do. That's why I love the way her mom told her to stop holding herself back for others and live her own life. Like Cordelia grew on me so much cus in Gold she undoubtedly was a strange Elizabeth Bennet-wallflower hybrid and I... do not usually get attached to wallflowers but in Iron I feel like I finally understood that she was just tryna be unproblematic and self-preserving all along and nottt put her family and friends in a tough situation.... she reminds me of my mom personality-wise so yeah I’m totally rooting for her now that her *situation* in the past seems clearer.

Anna, Thomas and Matthew are such a SQUAD lmfaooooo like united in their gayness they'd be so unstoppable.

Will and Tessa are the most in-love of all the in-loves in this story and I respect that so much.

I lost a year to my life every time the romance between James and Cordelia got cockblocked. Like they were MARRIED and I thought they were gonna at least sleep next to each other at least once BUT NO James couldn't take a hint omg I'm actually gonna eat my fist and sob (but in retrospect, I think this serves a bigger purpose in terms of the narrative structure i.e. the interruption of all the spicy James and Cordelia action serves a bigger purpose which I think brings me to my next section, *exhale*)

Okay like where to BEGIN I think the Shadowhunter boy who I'm most attracted to is Julian while the one I love the most is Will but I think I see myself in Matthew the most. Like ever since that first story where the Thieves all met at the Academy then got expelled, I think that I just KNEW Matthew was destined to be epic. Plus the whole Wilde obsession? I’m no libertine myself but I just love his chaos and passion for life.

Hear me out but I said after finishing Gold last March that I wanted this book to be Matthew's healing arc right so halfway into the book when I realized that we weren't getting all that good healing arcing I was confused just cus I thought it seemed natural to address all of his alcohol issues and sadness by now. LITTLE DID I KNOW CASSIE WAS SETTING UP A WHOLE OTHER ARC WITH HIM THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED WTH.

At first I thought Matthew didn't have feelings for anyone at all, and if he DID develop feelings unexpectedly, I fricking thought that maybe he's catching feelings for James, if anyone??? I mean, I did have some suspicions about Matthew from the get-go: like he's so secretive and as readers we think we know everything there is to know about him since we were all privy to the truth potion incident in his short story right BUT NO I GOT PLAYED AND I DESERVE IT SO BADDDDDD.

Listen I hadn't shipped him and Cordelia simply because I never thought it in the realm of possibility but it MAKES SENSE as a ship... think about it: he never says what he feels, he flirts with her like he does with EVERYONE, he is kind to her in the way he is with EVERYONE. Really, Matthew is shippable with everyone, doesn’t matter if they’re taken cus that’s just what his Matthewnes allows for ya feel. There is such a beautiful irony that CORDELIA herself did not see this coming. Even the little teasers and hints in Gold have only NOW started making sense to me likejhss. I just felt like the hints in book 1 did not indicate to me that Matthew really harbored real romantic feelings for Daisy. I thought he was upset that James and Cordelia were being fakes, not a developing CRUSH on the woman fgs.

Not to mention that you usually sense a ship building when the emotional connection or sexual tension between the characters is made clearer but to me their FRIENDSHIP grew right but it didn’t feel like Cordelia was thought that she liked him or he liked her so that means me and Cordelia are clowns *together* 😤

Okay I was lowkey having SUSPICIONS but I immediately shut them down right... like firstly when he took her to the White Horse in his car and she went OFF and OFF and off about how she felt free for the first time? I thought Cassie was just tryna develop Cordelia's self-liberation arc through Matthew there. Heck, I didn't even think ANYTHING of it when Matthew confession to Cordelia about the "truth potion" incident at all cus I was like they're FRIENDS??? BUT now it's adding up now...

See when they were at the inn place and he was telling her that she doesn't in the least seem like a 100 year-old married woman? I was like hmmmm he's so sweet but why did Cassie phrase it like that like??? When Cordelia later reiterated that she thought Matthew's flirting was “meaningless”?? I was like hmmm kinda SUS tho. And then when he and James had their fight over the way Jamie kissed Grace like again I thought he was just like? ion know? mad at James for it but I didn't think he was in LOVE with Cordelia??? So I immediately put aside my slight suspicions. The probability that he had a crush on James at that point seemed more likely to me.

BUT THEN it started hitting me that every time Matthew drank, even before he explained his issue with the truth potion, that Cordelia would note it, she would worry about him, she would think of her father which seemed so poetic to me, history repeating itself and all that but this time you can FIX it??? Yeah, but again I didn't think the L WORD would be involved man???

Now imma sound like a delulu shipper here but it just makes sense they would develop feelings logically- reason being that it definitely is possible based on the way Cassie set up the story, like there's a combination of little “friend things” that can turn this into a proper ship: Matthew rescues Cordelia in the ballroom when Grace captures James' attention in Gold. Cordelia sees her father in Matthew all the time but knows now she has a chance to be there for him in the way she couldn't have been there for Elias (classic “history repeats itself” trope, she doesn't want Matthew drinking in Paris like dhshghdfhdhch). Cordelia tastes freedom for the first time when driving with Matthew. Matthew caught James and Cordelia making out in the room and was pissed but not even HE properly knew why then??? Umm, when she thinks James is forreal cheating with Grace on her she subconsciously goes to Matthew??? I also found it funny just how every intimate marital moment between her and James got interrupted somehow. Like, it's as if the narrative is just a living force REFUSING to let James and Cordelia as a ship be consecrated. Heck, every time Matthew is scantily clothed Cordelia notes it. LITTLE CRUMBS I TELL YOU LITTLE CRUMBS.

I tell you when Cordelia showed up to Matthew's flat I thought they were gonna f*ck as friends but I got SOMETHING EVEN BETTER SOMEHOW

THEY ARE GOING TO PARIS LA BELLE EPOQUE PARIS THE PARIS OF DREAMS AND ART LIKE??? FRICKKKKK I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING AT ALLLL MAN? I deadass thought the story would be restrained to the UK but like it MAKES SENSE the trope subversion MAKES SENSE.

BUT CORDELIA LOVES JAMES TOO LIKE I CAN'T DENY THAT... where are we GOING with this like Matthew wouldn't lie about his feelings and yet Cassie wouldn't give us Matthew and Cordelia crumbs to only end it in the next book immediately for her to just ditch him for James. I mean she was clearly holding back on fleshing out James and Cordelia as a ship for this but to WHAT END??? Daisy feels wild and free with Matthew and she feels warm at home warm with James. I can’t advocate for the sinking of ANY ship here.

Imma say what we're all thinking: Is she gonna give us a Will x Jem x Tessa type situation where Cordelia gets both of them cus I'm not strong enough for this but I also think it'd be really funny if James gets a surprise bi awakening in the next books and then we get POLY even tho this would never happen, it’s actually impossible, because of the whole parabatai thing.

Listen I ship Cordelia and Matthew much more than Cordelia and James, not that I dislike James in any way tho. It's just: Matthew is so unrestrained and she's so composed. They seem like an unlikely pair so it makes sense that they hit harder for me. James and Cordelia have such similar personalities but I ALSO don't ship James with Grace at all so like?? Poly would be... ideal... but it can’t happen especially cus they are fricking parabatai... a Will-Jem-Tessa situation seems more likely but mannnn ion know what to expect. I just want FAIRSTAIRS to have their moment in Paris. I mean James and Matthew clearly don't abhor each other for this.

Lmfao a part of me feels like I GOTTA say something bad about CC or the book but honestly I have no objective complaints about it as of now. Am I saying that it’s the PEAK of Young Adult literature and Urban Fantasy? I mean, I make no such claims tbh. I’m not here to be critical when I read as a hobby and when CC’s writing makes me happy regardless of how flawed some people see it.

So like I’m excited for the adult high fantasy she’s releasing in the fall and whatever other works she might be releasing outside of Chain of Gold within the Chronicles.

As for TLH itself? Man I’m just VIBING like I suspect I will reread Chain of Iron soon and maybe one of the anthologies just because I am happy that this series actually happened after me waiting like 6 years for it when it was just a concept: a Dickensian retelling filled with poetry and culture and history and the conventions I so loved in TID at age 12. This is all I been wanting tbh. I’m just enjoying watching this series come to fruition for it to inspire and transform me in some way. I feel like in a way my coming-of-age aligns with that of these specific characters yet I ALSO feel like I raised Jamie since infancy. Wack.

first: WAHHHHHHHHH 😭😭😭 I got so emotional!!! so emotional!!!! so much that I can’t even do this first second pattern bc I have SO MANY thoughts!!!!!!! I’m writing this in my notes instead of straight into the askbox so u know it’s serious business™

ok so debut night!!! I was like ahah yeah it’s a tragedy whatever it’ll be fun to start out with and then the voice acting was SO good that it knocked me out of the park and I almost cried haha. it’s crazy how good the voice acting in a3 is like I love how the dialogue and voice acting works well together bc like it’s limited but so effective!! u can so very clearly see and understand the style they’re going for. especially like tsumugi’s death scene... the Talent jumped out it really did... uh and ok so. I think I may be a littleeee confused abt the play bc I had always interpreted tasukus last lines as raphael to be like abt his being secretly in love with michael. but now that I’m actually reading the line that’s like oh don’t fall for a human it only ends in misery I know that all too well or whatever... ig the implication is that raphael was in love with another human / the same lady michael was in love with in the play. side note I had to go back and edit the proper names in instead of tasuku and tsumugi lol... but speaking of!! speaking of the voice acting and the play itself I 1) love how blatantly obvious it is when tsumugi goes for that grander, tasuku like style of delivery!! like u could just so easily feel the difference it was wild... and 2) tsuzuru is once again spot on with his writing, lol... I felt that like raphaels inability to save or help michael really parallels how tasuku feels abt tsumugi so well, and it’s wonderful that they r able to resolve things and tasuku can properly compliment him on his acting where the angels fail to do so. it’s very good. and I think the play rly highlights (for me at least) that like. to tasuku, it was tsumugi who was sort of an unreachable existence. like were he to idolize and respect someone’s acting, it would be tsumugi. and I think that like caring carries over into their roles really well, because I think in michael’s love for a human tasuku sees like... tsumugi’s style of acting. the heart that he’d lost while within the god troupe. mb I’m losing my mind a little but ah. the play rly works with their relationship so well!! im very excited to see the other winter ppl get main roles tho—same for all the troupes!!! now this ask is too long so I’ll have to do another part lol

going to start off this second part of the ask abt hisoka bc oh my GOD. hisoka. like I was just thinking “hm where r the winter troupe cgs anyways” and then BAM. hisoka CRYING???? especially since he doesn’t seem that emotional it was a really hard hit!!! and who tf is august.... ok well actually theory time!! skipping ahead to the end theres that note that like mentions December and April and. not to expose my friend but very many years ago (a couple years before a3 was launched, at the very least) she wrote this story where there were like 12 orphan assassins and they were all named after months. I remember the main dude was named dec lol. coupled with my “hisoka is capable of murder” bit? listen.... I’m not saying anything but I’m also not not saying anything if u feel me. also I feel like assassin / thief with mysterious background is a common trope!! that was silver from the pokémon adventures manga too... why is this my reference point lmao. anyways I’m unclear if assassins would make it into a3 but like.... if the yakuza and supernatural stuff makes it in...

okay moving away from conspiracy theories and into emotions!!! the quotes from like EVERY mankai actor before the final production made me SO emo... and yay!!! they won!!!! (though admittedly I almost had a heart attack when no one clapped) but they won!!!! that ending cg!!!! and I adore how sakyo immediately goes after god troupe man (I know his name is reni I just don’t feel like calling him that) for the money lol it’s just so sakyo-like. also I love the lil mixed troupe interactions!! I found the game night ch so fun.... ahh, now I wanna reread that ch since it was so good lol

all in all I was super satisfied ahh!! I am SO excited to start up spring troupe again (HELLO character development!!! and chikage) and I’m even MORE excited to get thru all the act 1 events!!!! as a final note, is there any way to reread or replay the flair conversations? I didn’t want any spoilers for the plays while I was doing the practices for them so I kinda sped thru the first time ahah...

HELLO FRIEND IM SO HAPPY TO GET SUCH A LENGHTY ASK ABOUT WINTER IM LKDJFLKDJFLKFD Winter makes me feel shrimps emotions (i know the whole “shrimps can see more colors than humans can’t comprehend” thing has been disproved but i’m not letting go of that expression, i REALLY feel emotions humans can’t comprehend anymore and i’m going to make it everyone else’s problem)

1) First about the voice acting, rIGHT this is just so fascinating to me!!! I remember after act 2 i came back to reread the main act 1 chapter and i was so thrown out by how GOOD the voice acting was, especially for the first few troupes having to convince you they’re not comfortable or good at acting yet. Winter whole thing is that they’re more subtle and mature and you really feel that with their voice acting, Tsumugi’s voice especially knock it off the park anytime he’s on screen.

2) Second: what does it say about me that i’ve never, ever considered your reading a possibility because i was so set on “oh Raphael you’re in love with Michael sooooo bad you see it as a tragedy already because you can see him throw his life away” i didn’t even consider “maybe Raphael went through that too”. Though i guess if we’re going with that reading i can totally see “The Woman” they let themselves consumed by easily be a representation of acting or even more the God Troupe, with Raphael/Tasuku knowing to step away before it consumes him completely while Michael/Tsumugi, by his love and passion, pushed himself until he broke, which fits and it hurtsssss god Winter plays hits so hard.

3) Third: oh god yeah when Tsumugi goes for Tasuku’s acting it’s just. It makes me SO uncomfortable, i’ve experienced this scene like three times by now and the third time i was just “can i skip it i can’t go through this again i can’t Tsumugi i love you i can’t do this”. It doesn’t match the play at all and it just throws everyone off balance, and Tsumu you could have told theM YOU WANTED TO DO THAT.... god

4) Fourth: I LOVE YOUR READING SO MUCH I LOVE IT I LOVE IT YES YOU’RE RIGHT!!! Just as we follow Tsumugi let his passion consumes him until he breaks, Tasuku’s character arc really jumps out in Raphael, like, everything you say!!! The way Tasuku/Raphael knew how the feelings Tsumugi/Michael felt would hurt him on the long run but he didn’t know what to do about it until it was too late, the regrets and the way Raphael voices his frustrations.... Tasuku struggles to be honest without acting (Tasuku pls i love you) but having such a role really help him expressing all he feels about Tsumugi and i’m HHHH this is so good so so good!!! but yeah i also love that Tasuku finally manages to actually compliment Tsumugi naturally, that he understands he can’t let him destroys himself again and it’s just gnhhhhh Tasuku is so kind and considerate and i care about him so much....!!!

5) Fifth: “i’m losing my mind a little” winter mood, winter mood winter mood- (though every troupe’s mood tbh but Winter is gnhhhhh kdhd hdhjf??? you feel me) (i am BIASED i can’t help it TwT) but yeaH i’m looking forward to see how you react to the others plays because the roller coaster juST BEGUN!!!

Onto part 2... Winter Troupe Chapter Feels... 2!

6) Sixth: DLFJDFKLDF HISOKAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE HIM SO MUCHHHHH. Hisoka crying fucked me up so bad!! so so bad!! Like on my first read i didn’t know what to think of him as he starts out very apathic to his troupe and then the more it goes on the more you can feel he starts to open up and i’m soft for this sort of slow burn, but then this whole scene happened and it HIT ME IN THE FACE, he was crying, i was crying, we were all crying, the Unopening Door opened a flood of emotions i can’t cope with. He sounds SO VULNERABLE during that scene and i know all of the Winter Troupe united on “taking care of him” but that’s really the moment i went “i care you and i will keep taking care of you” and look at me now. Thanks funky little scene for ruining my life. I’m glad you liked it i’m aldhjflkjdfkd Hisokaaaaa.....

7) Seventh: I am not commenting on the theory but 👀 that’s so highly specific your friend has a galaxy brain i love it. and i love the idea of “well we have yakuza and supernatural entity what’s an assassin adding himself to it” dLKFJDLKF i know everyone in Mankai calls Izumi out everytime someone joins but that’d be peak. I’m not going further about what December and August and April are all about but i love this plotline sO much, the few mentions of August when Hisoka regained his memories for a minute still haunts me, the guilt he seems to feel and this pain i’m just... godddd such a good set up. I love this plotline.

8) Eigth: EMOTIONS!! Oh GOD YEAH THE ENDING WITH ALL THE OTHER ACTORS... I cried so hard it’s just. It really shows you it’s not just the culmination of the Winter chapter but of all the act 1 main plot and it really makes you feel how much of a journey you’ve been onto!! A3 is so good at showing you the growth of its characters that especially by the end of Winter you really saw how all of them grew in their respective chapters and how cozy they felt in their new home in the remaining chapters, and the fact this chap has those defining character arc’s lines really drive home “oh my god that was a journey” i love them sO MUCH....

9) Ninth: wE WOOOON!!! They’re all so good i just. i’m gonna cry just thinking about it dlfdjlfk i know like, the game has so many content so you know it can’t end at the end of Winter but the suspense really was there. BUT YEAH LMAO I LOVE SAKYO DOING THAT IMMEDIATLY, man sure has the eyes on the prize and we love him for that. AND THE GAME NIGHT SCENE they are all sO CUTE and sWEET and they’re a family now and i’m hHHHHH i love a3 a normal healthy amount that isn’t just making me cry thinking about how all of them grew so close even through mixed troupes.

10) Tenth: I am SO happy you were satisfied with the plot so far!! I’m genuinely so happy that you decided to take that journey with us and that you shared all of this with me, and i’m so so happy you liked it!! There is still so much content and all of it is so worth it!

11) Eleventh: Yes!! The flair conversations are all readable on the Mini-Chat tab! So they’re easily accessible and they’re sorted in a way that’s easy to read so you can feel comfortable skipping the flairs if you want until you have seen the stories the flairs are all about. They’re all kinda set during the rehearsals (except for some crosstroupe conversation that wouldn’t make sense if they were like how the Summer Troupe talks with the Spring Troupe in their Flairs DKLFJDF but it’s okay what is a timeline anyway) so some of them are set pre-development and it’s wild to get back to them. I love rereading Flairs i get emotional everytime.

dr popularity: still absolutely baffles me. second game i understand a LITTLE bc it almost has some really cool concepts and then either tosses them out the window bc it refuses to consistently think about its characters OR just doesn't think about them enough. that said, the fact that dr2 exists in the first place makes me so ????? because dr1 has the worst fucking mystery i've ever experienced in a video game. and like, yeah, i went into it knowing the mastermind and every spoiler under the sun, you could say 'of course it's going to be boring,' but the thing is if something is a good mystery story IT IS STILL ENGAGING EVEN IF YOU KNOW THE OUTCOME. fucking 999 is a GREAT mystery story even on your 3rd playthrough like. cmon. k0daka i know you hate detective stories but you could at least make your story MILDLY not insulting to your audience's intelligence

also it has the flattest characters ive seen in my fucking life (dr2 barely remedies this bc komaeda and hinata are actually kind of interesting and fuyuhiko has SOME level of growth but otherwise: lol) and the fact that people ever kin(ned) these literal cardboard cutouts makes me laugh

yes i know i rb dr sometimes. good art exists. that and the Potential komaeda and hinata and some of the dr2 characters have makes me feel like a Voltr0n Jam Store Customer (not explaining that reference just look up 'jam theory' and you'll find it if you don't know what the hell i'm talking about). it's genuinely kind of insulting to me how popular dr is when ITS NOT EVEN FUN TO PLAY MOST OF THE TIME

a3 main story: character growth my beloved. i'll be honest i don't Love act 1 but that's only bc it has to set everything up. i did almost cry at sakuya's va though.

act 2: 'oh my god tenma shut the fuck up i hate you' -> 'okay you're cool i guess' in the span of two hours. impressive

act 3: still in love with this. LOVE the portraits and how they make act 3 feel so different from the rest of 1-4. also gay rivalry my beloved

act 4: this is weird bc a lot of act 4 is setup for the 2nd and 3rd winter play character moments but also i love winter sooooo

act 5: TH. HI CHIKAGE

act 6: oh ym god i love kumon so much. so fucking much. and seing the way tenma and the rest of the troupe grew as a person is so. clenches fist. but kumon's arc is SO fucking strong it destroys me

act 7: gonna be honest, my least fave part of 5-8, i still like it (thinks about everyone except azami) but then i don't super love azami's arc so i'm just. idk i might need to read it again but it felt kinda underwhelming after 6. though i do still like it ofc

act 8: YYYEAAAAAAAAAAH (screaming while the opera house is on fire) THE PEAK OF FICTION

ohmygod finally someone who shares my views. my sister and I loved fatws for what they did w sam’s character but aside from that the writing was very bad. we really could not understand wtf was bucky’s purpose to the main plot and what new side of bucky did we see. when the action wasnt happening he kept whining about steve and being rude to sam and then marvel thrust sambucky onto us and basically told us to move onto this Brand New Duo. sam and bucky were not on equal footing here and their personal struggles did not hold equal weight at all (i will give credits to anthony and seb here for making their friendship look believable) mcu keeps sidelining bucky and i thought they would do him some justice in this show but they didnt. after reading the articles and interviews post the show it was evident the writers did not understand bucky’s character at all. his whole character development was moving on from steve and now becoming sam’s sidekick? (also im really hoping and praying these writers dont go through with sarahbucky in the future because…no..absolutely not). and i do hope that what you said about a future steve bucky reunion comes true because so far mcu has been very hellbent on erasing their friendship and its just pathetic that they try to undermine their friendship so much, while weirdly enough also emphasizing that yes it has deep emotional value.

yeah like, i’m gonna try to make this as succinct and short (lol) as i possibly can without going off on tangents but tf.atws should’ve been SAM’S show. sam alone. he should’ve been the only title character, and they could’ve properly focused on his arc and the sociopolitical weight of it. that is MORE than enough content to fill up 6 hours. i absolutely love cap!sam and i think he’s gonna be a great captain america. i’m very much looking forward to his future.

but virtually everything else about this show from conception to film was a miss.

the flag smashers? (really marvel? your military propaganda perked its ugly ass head with this one. within the first five minutes of the show they were condemning ppl who believed in a world without borders lmfao. i legit almost stopped watching right then i’m not kidding) and the storyline itself wasn’t even coherent. they had WAY too many characters and arcs to focus on and it just.. didn’t work. didn’t do any one of them justice. not even their title characters - especially their title characers. the whole thing felt very hollow and emotionally remiss. the barely existent dialogue was clunky and awkward, and i’m sorry but.. to me, sam and bucky do not organically get along lol. the chemistry between the actors is undeniable which is why so many ppl ate it up, (and do i think they could eventually get along? yes) but the buddybuddy thing was pretty forced imo. very sudden and based on very little.

their stories were at odds, with not one common goal between them all the way to the end. they fought for screen time and it caused both of their stories to suffer and not carry the weight they should have. they both had VERY heavy content to work with (a black captain america / a trauma/abuse/pow survivor) but somehow marvel - in true marvel fashion - did not commit to either and tried to tread lightly on both.

bucky and sam only had the thin thread of steve woven between them & even that was done poorly because the writers themselves admittedly weren’t told what happened to steve, therefore they couldn’t write a definitive arc about it. and instead of actually committing to the deep bond between he and bucky, they took the no homo route and had bucky express anger over who holds property of the shield, rather than admitting it was steve himself that he emotionally and physically missed. but again, they couldn’t really do that, could they? they didn’t know if steve was alive or if bucky knew of his whereabouts.

i’ll admit i did enjoy the peripheral concept of bucky helping steve pass along the shield, like he was its watcher, making sure steve’s legacy fell in good hands, and was there to basically coach sam along the way. in THAT regard alone, it did feel like he and steve were still a team post-endgame. that, on top of saying that he and steve discussed the future of the shield together was a sweet touch. loved that, but it was executed poorly like everything else.

& his winter soldier arc... lordy, was that handled horribly. bucky is a charming, gentle, burdened, lover-not-a-fighter (since the 40s) victim and they turned him macho, carrying the burden of his abusers and guilted into making amends? and that his problems were his fault because he couldn’t trust people? say what now? bucky is a pissed off, good-hearted war vet with a LOT of baggage- he’s not just some dude. the effort to butch up and patch up bucky in a quick fix was apparent, from the short hair, to the list of names, to the “man up” approach everybody came at him with, to the really out of place heterosexual flirting. i mean honest to god who the has time to flirt? apparently bucky! none of the other characters even passed a sideways glance to another during the entire series aside from the one character who audiences have been vocal about being queer for 10 years. hmmm.... (and then the writers actually CAME OUT & MADE A POINT TO SAY that they did not intend for his bisexuality lmfao i mean please dear god put us out of this misery. that writer/director need to stop talking because nobody cares about their personal opinions or headcanons. media is for the viewer to interpret so please shut up.)

overall the actors did what they could w that script, that much was obvious- and they certainly tried to stay as true to their visions/versions of the characters as they could but it just didn’t end up matching up.

but yeah, on a lighter note, i sincerely don’t think they’ll continue bucky in sam’s sphere. i think that was a one off. i don’t think they actually wanted to sell them as a “new partnership” but they just didn’t know how to write the dynamic properly. i think tf.atws was just a sad, sad attempt to place them somewhere post-endgame so they can continue on in bigger marvel films. sam’s got his cap4 and his new team (torres, sharon, walker), and i think i read he’s gonna make an appearance in black panther? which will be sooooo awesome!!

and bucky? his ending was very open, what with him miraculously “feeling better” yet not quite the white wolf, and not permanent in any place. and on top of that, he was instructed to stay away from wakanda so he can’t make future appearances there, so methinks he and steve will cross paths again as nomad and white wolf for sure (once it’s revealed what steve’s been doing, etc). maybe in space?

NB- These are all unfinished and unposted WIPs. It behooves me to note that some of these are not at all recent. However, they ARE fics that have “first lines” at all, which is not necessarily a given as my Creative Muse is obnoxiously nonlinear in her inspirations.

1- The Gray Ghost had suffered some engine trouble somewhere on Interstate 65, so Mom and Dad hadn’t managed to make it to Chuck’s wedding. (Early Edition: ”Belly Up to the Bar”, a canon-compliant continuation of the episode “Occasionally Amber”, Gary/Toni except kinda not really because she’s totally pissed)

2- Oracle, Texas. 1878. A gnarled husk of a town still trying to deny that its glory days are past. (”Gunslinger”, my serious treatment/retelling of the Roger Corman western)

3- The gate clanged shut behind him, and Meng Yao took a deep, steadying breath. (MDZS: ”Leverage”, an Untamed AU based on inspired by pretty much continuing @littlesmartart‘s brilliant setup and concept)

4- Many, many nights would Jiang Cheng lie awake at night, staring at the ceiling and pondering the razor’s edge of chance he’d toed. (MDZS: an Untamed chengqing fic set post-canon, current working title is “Second Chances” but I don’t like it)

5- Napoleon Solo flipped though an outdated magazine with little real interest as he lounged in one of the chairs lining the lobby of the car rental establishment. (TMFU (2015): ”Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, a fic set in my “Eight Strapping Daughters” universe where it is currently 1987 and Gaby and Illya have had eight daughters, any of whom are capable of taking over the world... and all of whom are about to spend the day at a shopping mall)

6- He felt the phone vibrating in his pocket. (Sailor Moon: ”Moon Revenge”, a Minako/Kunzite bodyguard AU)

7- The Moon was visiting Earth. (Sailor Moon: ”No Miracle for the Likes of Us”- another working title- which is Venus/Kunzite-centric exploration of the end of the Silver Millenium)

8- Chibi-Usa hasn’t stayed very long after Helios departed. (Sailor Moon: ”Rebirth AU”- you guessed it... working title- a Minako/Kunzite-heavy-but-not-exclusive AU that deviates from the manga/SM Crystal canon after the end of the Dead Moon Circus arc where the Shitennou are revived and the events of Star never occur)

9- Monday, 7:00 AM: Alarm goes off.

Monday, 7:00:08 AM: Alarm thrown across room. (Sailor Moon: “Codename: Teen Idol ‘Dite”, a side arc set in the above AU where, lacking any catastrophic galactic conflicts to fight against, Minako is going out of her mind with boredom and takes an undercover job as an idol as part of a police/Interpol sting operation)

10- Normally, Salazar Slytherin took great pride in his self-control. (Harry Potter: ”Release”, a short Hogwarts founders one-shot involving a maddening magical construction project and a sudden bout of swearing)

11- It was the first truly warm day since winter had broken, and Salazar Slytherin wandered the grounds with no purpose or destination in mind, simply basking in the sunlight until he began to feel the chill of the dungeons recede from his bones. (Harry Potter: ”And Treat Them All the Same”, a Hogwarts founders story about Helga Hufflepuff’s background and why she feels very strongly about equal treatment)

12- Salazar Slytherin stared at the wardrobe for another minute before finally deciding to throw another fur over his fur-lined cloak, leather jerkin, and wool tunic. (Harry Potter: another one-shot Hogwarts founders fic with a teeny bit of Helgazar where the very cold-blooded Slytherin has to deal with a snowball fight, currently but not definitively titled “Snow Day”)

13- As the sun disappeared beneath the horizon, Brooklyn burst through the thin stone crust encasing him, his awakening roar shifting into a yawn as he stared blearily at the skyline and tried to remember what century he was in. (Gargoyles: ”Return of the Time Dancer”, Brooklyn’s return to New York- family in tow- after his Phoenix Gate adventures)

14- The couple breaking their fast that morning were strikingly handsome, if perhaps past the most fashionable age. (The Scarlet Pimpernel, Pride and Prejudice: “Scarlet Impressions”, a crossover fic that pretty much unfolded itself when I a) crunched numbers regarding the dates and years of respective storylines and b) realized that while Lizzy and Marguerite would get on like a house on fire, Darcy’s only possible reaction to Sir Percy would be unmitigated horror poorly repressed due to the latter’s much higher social standing)

15- Paris really was lovely this time of year. (MCU: “Threads and Patches: Part One”, first part of a three-part Clintasha AU set after the events of Civil War and most emphatically *not* farm-family friendly)

16- The briny air filled her lungs to bursting, but she continued to draw in breath until it hurt. (Highlander the Series: “The Mad Viking Saga”... because, frankly, EVERYONE should have an Immortal™ self-insert character and I refuse to apologize or feel ashamed of mine)

17- “Your Highness? The oracle is here.” (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas: “Sinbad and the Garden of the Hesperides” a sequel to the animated movie that actually should be titled “Proteus and the etc., etc.” bc it’s mostly about him and giving him the ending I think he deserves, a.k.a. an OC love interest and a chance for adventure while on a quest to save his city from a plague)

18- Bare feet pounded on the hot, rough pavement as Sinbad dashed around another tight corner. (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas: “Fast Friends”, an eight-chapter prequel telling the story of how Sinbad and Proteus met and grew up together, wherein each chapter progresses with each year they know each other from when they meet to when Sinbad leaves)

19- Reed was well-known as your stereotypical absent-minded professor. (Fantastic Four: “Shut Up and Dance With Me”, a Reed/Sue fluffy one shot where Reed is adorable because fight me)

20- The spaceport on Aruus Minor reeked of fuel, welding torches, and sweaty coveralls, but it was a welcome change from the recycled air of the Lambda shuttle. (Star Wars Legends Expanded Universe (BITE ME DISNEY): “Everything Unsaid”, a Luke/Mara chance encounter set during the we-share-an-unbearable-degree-of-compatibility-to-say-nothing-of-the-overwhelming-sexual-tension-but-both-of-our-lives-are-kind-of-a-mess-and-neither-of-us-feels-ready-to-deal-with-our-feelings-for-each-other-so-we’ve-individually-decided-to-just-ignore-said-feelings-while-simultaneously-being-drawn-to-each-other-whenever-we’re-so-much-as-in-the-same-fucking-hemisphere years)

WHEW! Well, it sure was fun to tease all my followers with a taste of fics that will neverrr be finished! As far as patterns go, seems I tend to prefer either set-up paragraphs or punchy one-to-three-liners intended to trick intrigue people into reading further. My favorite is definitely #9. It’s a diary/log of Minako’s day, and her POV is hilarious and sooooo much fun to write like that!

anon i love your brain! thank you sooooo much for enabling me~ (my friends and i began talking about this a while ago but we never reached a conclusion)

please, do keep in mind that the original story has some heavy sexual topics

without further ado

The Rocky Horror Show

- a Mankai Company production (Autumn and Winter troupes mixed play)

Frank-N-Furter: Homare Arisugawa

oh man where do i start even start Homare would be an amazing fit for Frank for starters: Homare’s arc is all about not understanding how others feel, and it has a focus on romantic feeling now picture a more twisted Homare, one that has stopped caring about feelings to a certain degree and focuses more in the carnal aspect of relationships, one that doesn’t understand others but doesn’t care about it, a completely hedonistic Homare, he only seeks pleasure for himself, no matter how and there you’ve got a Frank-N-Furter adding to that, Frank is a creator, and who better to portray a creator than an artist such as Homare? the creation of Rocky is an artistic thing, Rocky serves no other purpose than exist for Frank, to please him Homare’s art, like Rocky, is for him to enjoy and understand, seeing as most people don’t get to understand it, and like Wilde said, “all art is quite useless”... just like Rocky, if we put things in perspective the creation thing is a small explanation of a bigger analysis i’ve made based on Frankenstein but i don’t wanna derail things so much so if anyone wants me to elaborate on how a creation like Rocky (or Frankenstein’s Creature) can be seen as art, hmu

if we imagine this production as a sort of event story, i imagine it would be very helpful for Homare’s character development also, when it comes to Frank, there’s no “too much”, meaning Homare can add all the flair and extra-ness he wants to, he can give an amazing flamboyant Frank-N-Furter, one that not many people could nail

Brad Majors: Tasuku Takato

i know at first it would seem against Tasuku to play someone like Brad, because, if this was any other story, brad would be the good guy, the hero, the prince the prince role that Tasuku is so so so sick of but this is Rocky Horror, here the prince role is a victim, and i think Tasuku has the experience to show how one archetype that can be so favoured in one context is... a helpless mess... in other contexts, so i think he’d enjoy playing that adding to that, we know how Tasuku gets into character and literally forgets himself when he’s preparing for a role, right? (his method acting is a topic to delve into another day because it’s A Lot) well, imagine Tasuku, the serious one from the Winter troupe, the stoic one, being a character who can’t express things well, who’s somewhat repressed and who is weak because of that like Homare, i think this would be a great opportunity for some (well needed) Tasuku character development

Janet Weiss: Tsumugi Tsukioka

no, this isn’t only because of tstm (although it did play a part) Tsumu has an amazing range, we have seen him play a literal angel whose only fault was loving too much and a literal demon (which, if you ask me, is very sexc of him) but despite his range, i’d argue that must characters he plays are rather static, there’s not a lot of change of the character through the play itself, so he doesn’t get to showcase his abilities as much as he could which is why i think he’d be a perfect Janet, he has the innocence looks, and see him descent into lust and spiral like Janet did would be very interesting he’s amazing at subtleties, too, so he could show a very progressive change, starting out with small stuff, instead of it being abrupt and out of the blue also, putting tasutsumu as Brad and Janet gives them place to play a dynamic that only two people who know everything about each other (like they do) could play, it’d be great for showing the small differences through time, not to add that them knowing each other so well could allow them to adlib really well in scenes like Dammit Janet

“Rocky Horror”: Omi Fushimi

just imagine Omi in nothing but those small golden underpants, enough said okay no one thing that has defined Omi’s acting ever since the start of autumn’s arc is his stage presence, but playing Rocky would imply that Omi would become a tool, a subject of Frank’s so the subtleties about Omi, that giant, playing a “lowly” character makes things rather fun, and yeah i can’t lie, his body plays a part in the casting but well, it’s fitting now, instead of a villain, which is a role he takes a couple times, Omi would also have a “victim” (sorta) role (if we start to analyse it as Frankenstein’s creature) idk i think the power dynamics between Homare and Omi as creator and Creature would be rather interesting, he would have to change a lot about his stage presence, which is a fun challenge aside from that, Rocky is also sorta... naive? i think that’s the word? which, again, would be a cool contrast compared to the characters Omi has been cast as so far, he’d have to rely a lot in subtler things also i’m sorry i’m being repetitive but seriously his body just imagine him in the “i can make you a man” sequence

Riff Raff: Hisoka Mikage

ngl at first i only thought about this because it would be a fun role reversal from their characters in MLAM but well, it does fit not only Hisoka’s normal posture can help him play as Riff Raff, but he is good at blending in the background, so the position of a “servant” is a role he could easily adapt to, plus, from his looks, one could say that he seems trustworthy, which would make it easy for his character to drag Brad and Janet around into the Time Warp sequence speaking of that sequence, his agility and skills would make up for a nice contrast during that scene, and then we go back to him being the “servant” and with his background, i believe he would probably be the best at dropping hints about the plot twist at the end, when he shows himself to be more menacing / that’s he’s to be taken more seriously

Magenta: Juza Hyodo

Magenta was the hardest to cast because she doesn’t really has that many lines? either sung or spoken so it was harder to pin a character on her but well, Juza does seem like an interesting choice not only he’d offer an interesting contrast to Hisoka’s Riff Raff in terms of visuals, but he’d also be kinda “following” him around; plus it’d add impact to the final scenes with both Hiso and Juza threatening Frank, that scene could have some interesting action and i’m here for it what made me settle for Juza tho are these lines from Time Warp: “So you can't see me / No, not at all” and “Well secluded, I see all” Juza’s position as an outsider through most of his life could add depth to Magenta’s character a character like Magenta would also allow Juza to try and be more playful (like in the echoes in Dammit Janet or Sweet Transvestite) while also being intimidating

Columbia: Taichi Nanao

Taichi is one of the few characters i can think of that can match Columbia’s energy, and if you think about it, just as Frank can be a distorted Homare, Columbia can be a distorted Taichi in a rather sad way taking the starting line from Rose Tint My World: “it was great when it all began” Taichi, easily excited Taichi, he’s quick to jump at anything that may bring him popularity, and like him, Columbia jumped to Frank to became his groupie, only to be ditched to the side when Rocky came and like her, Taichi was always pushed to the side before Mankai so, once again, he could probably understand the character better than most now, that’s not the only reason Taichi’s a good Columbia, i’m thinking Taichi would nail the tap sequence from Time Warp, make it a highlight of the show, and he could potentially add a lot to her character through his movements in general

Eddie: Banri Settsu

“from the day he was born he was trouble” i’m only half joking, if you listen to Eddie, it’s very easy to picture a Banri who never found Mankai Eddie isn’t that big of a character (and yet he gets to songs for him, damn, and his impact is very important) so there isn’t much i can say except his vibes now, Banri has something that makes him? very good as a supporting character? he has a good stage presence and he’d be able to bring Eddie the impact he has in his few scenes, so viewers would keep him in mind, and it’d show just how far his impact goes

Dr. Everett von Scott: Sakyo Furuichi

same as with Eddie, we don’t have so much information on Dr Scott i’ll be 100% honest i just chose him because he has the serious vibes? and he’s like one of the most down to earth ppl in Makai, which is fitting for the professor but also lol the legs thingie in Rose Tint My World with Sakyo would be hilarious thinking a little bit more about it, Sakyo can be pull the viewers back to “reality”, he can be very stern and realistic, so he could break things from the plot nicely, and he and Homare could have a fun push and pull thing between them

The Narrator: Guy

there’s no big reason behind him, i just like Guy’s voice a lot wait no, there’s actually a reason imagine Guy, the Guy who thought he was a robot, who thought he wasn’t human, to close the play, talking about humanity and about how insignificant it may be idk i think that’d be nice give his recently found humanity
