The Great Ace Attorney Final Trial Commentary: Day 3, Part 2

This is an ongoing mini-commentary covering the final trial of The Great Ace Attorney (Resolve) in line-by-line detail. It’s written from a perspective of already knowing the full truth of things, so there will be spoilers for facts that only get revealed later on in the trial. This is not a commentary to read along with one’s first playthrough!

Now that we’re below the readmore, I can add that this isn’t quite a commentary for everything going on in the final trial. It’s focused specifically on Kazuma and what’s going on in his head, only covering things which are relevant to him in some way (for the most part). I already had a lot to say about him in a big analysis post over on my main blog – but I have even more to say about him during the trial in even more detail, so here we are!

Last time, Jigoku confessed to killing Gregson, which proves it wasn’t van Zieks who did the deed… but Kazuma has not given up yet, because of course he hasn’t.

Kazuma: “The accused’s innocence hasn’t been fully established at all. And therefore, it would be wrong to deliver a verdict at this time. That is the prosecution’s unwavering position!”

Of course Kazuma insists that he’s unwavering on this. He really does refuse to waver on his conviction that Barok van Zieks is the guiltiest guilter to ever guilt.

Kazuma: “Nevertheless… Barok van Zieks has committed crimes for which he must be punished.”

It’s not even so much about revealing the supposed truth of van Zieks’s crimes to Kazuma – it’s about making sure he gets punished for it. Ghhhh. Prosecutors don’t usually make a point of the punishment like this, but of course Kazuma would.

Kazuma: “But it’s clear from the witness’s testimony that he was coerced into complying with this plot. Into this sick, merciless assassin exchange!”

Those sure are some choice words to describe it. But then, when it’s being masterminded by van Zieks, The Worst Person Ever, of course it’s sick and merciless and any other horrible descriptor you could think of. (And I wouldn’t be surprised if some of Kazuma’s own feelings about being coerced into co-operating with this himself are coming through here.)

Kazuma: “And furthermore… I’m going to prove his guilt beyond all reasonable doubt!”

Yes, because an argument based on something he claims Gregson told him at sword-point but cannot prove, and the assumption that it was probably the prosecutor on the case who’d have ordered fabricated evidence and would therefore want his co-conspirators silenced, definitely doesn’t involve any reasonable amount of doubt at all. Someone might be overselling himself just a bit here.

(Revival of the Prosecutor is playing now, because this more than anything else is the very thing that Kazuma’s entire life has been building towards – or at least, that’s what he’s fervently telling himself is the case.)

Van Zieks: “I must say I’m surprised… by quite how tenaciously you appear to want to besmirch my name.” Kazuma: “……… You are guilty of an unforgivable crime, Lord van Zieks. And I will bring you to justice for it… whatever it takes!”

Here, of course, Kazuma isn’t really talking about him supposedly being the Reaper. He’s saying you killed my father, the most unforgivable crime of them all.

(When really, van Zieks ought to be forgiven for his role in that, because it wasn’t his fault. But Kazuma doesn’t do forgiveness and is going to be unable to forgive him even when he learns the truth.)

Kazuma: “I thank you, My Lord, for guiding the court so wisely.”

This is as Stronghart agrees to allow Kazuma’s line of enquiry. Because of course, entertaining his argument that van Zieks is The Worstest Ever is the height of judgely wisdom.

Van Zieks: “I first had to suffer the pseudonym of the Reaper ten years ago now. And ever since that time, I’ve endured the weight of implied guilt that’s gone with it. So I welcome the chance to testify now… and crush these allegations once and for all.” Kazuma: “Good. Then let justice decide… Lord van Zieks.”

Kazuma is so convinced that justice is on his side here. Even as van Zieks is very much speaking like an innocent man who’s been viewed as a criminal for ten years! But no, obviously that’s all an act, and obviously his testimony’s only going to end up proving that, right.

(There’s been another couple of rare instances of Kazuma calling him “Lord van Zieks” just now. I’m not quite sure why, but it is interesting. Perhaps it’s because Kazuma’s addressing him very directly, and accusing him more directly than ever before of the very thing he’s always wanted to get revenge over, and something in that makes it feel more personal to him than usual…?)

Kazuma: “The prosecution seeks to begin building its case by calling the accused to the stand as the primary witness… in order that he may answer the accusation brought by the prosecution that he IS the Reaper of the Bailey!”

And once again, Kazuma is calling van Zieks to the stand when this really isn’t necessary. The entire argument we’re about to make here about how van Zieks could theoretically have been involved in the assassin exchange is something Kazuma could have argued anyway, without needing van Zieks’s testimony there to shoot down.

But that wouldn’t be satisfying enough. The last time Kazuma called van Zieks to testify, it turns out he wasn’t lying nearly as much as Kazuma was trying to prove him to be, so he’s going to try again. He will prove van Zieks to be a perjurious liar as well as a murderous monster, dammit.

Susato: “And Kazuma-sama is so emotional at the moment. He’s not thinking logically!” Ryunosuke: “You’re right that he’s not himself.”

Aww, both Susato and Ryunosuke can tell that Kazuma’s in a very volatile state right now.

Ryunosuke: “But I knew it would be like this. And I came here today determined to face him through whatever might arise. As a lawyer… and as his friend.”

Friends!!! I love how Ryunosuke’s determined to stand up against Kazuma’s fervour, not only for the sake of the truth (“as a lawyer”), but also for the sake of his friend, to help pull Kazuma out of this maelstrom of emotions and save him before he condemns an innocent man to death.

--- Testimony 3 ---

(As a reminder, I’m using different testimony-numbering to the game’s chapter select, because the chapter select bizarrely treats it as if day 2 and day 3 are one continuous day when they are not. Add two to these numbers to match those in the chapter select.)

Van Zieks: “I acknowledge that the public at large believe me to be the Reaper. However, that’s a fallacy, which I alone am in a position to foreswear.” Kazuma: “Naturally, the prosecution believes the testimony just given by the accused to be untrue.”

Really, Kazuma? You really had to butt in just to say “well, I think he’s lying, though”, as if that wasn’t obvious enough from your position. Maybe calling him to testify so that he can argue for his innocence wasn’t the best of options in some ways, huh?

Kazuma: “Ryunosuke Naruhodo…” Ryunosuke: “…Yes?” Kazuma: “Let me ask you: why are you here? What really brings you to the courtroom?”

This is the closest Kazuma’s ever got to asking Ryunosuke why he’s defending van Zieks – whether he really believes he’s innocent or not. Kazuma’s definitely been having some very heavily-suppressed thoughts about whether Ryunosuke might be right to be on van Zieks’s side over the past few days… but now that the moment of Kazuma being about to prove van Zieks’s guilt is right here, he can’t be allowing himself to think that Ryunosuke could possibly have a point. So if that’s not the case, if he’s not doing this because van Zieks is really innocent (because he can’t be), then… why is Ryunosuke here at all?

Ryunosuke: “……… A desire to uncover the truth.” Kazuma: “Even if the truth proves your client to be guilty?”

Happily for Kazuma, Ryunosuke doesn’t give him the answer he didn’t want to hear. Ryunosuke’s belief in his client isn’t quite his number one priority, not next to the truth. And Kazuma is so convinced that the truth is going to prove his client to be guilty.

Ryunosuke: “So it’s always my intention… to work with my client in pursuit of the truth.” Kazuma: “……… I want you to remember what you just said.”

While the narrative purpose of this bit is to come back to bite Ryunosuke when it turns out the truth is the absolute last thing his client wants to be true, that’s not how Kazuma’s seeing this. He’s expecting this to come back to bite Ryunosuke when it turns out that van Zieks is obviously the worst and could never have been worked together with in pursuit of the truth at all, right.

Ryunosuke: (I know exactly what you’re thinking, Kazuma. I know you’re just waiting to point it out. The contradiction you’re convinced lies somewhere within this man’s testimony…)

Of course he is, exactly like he did before. Call van Zieks to the stand so he can point out the contradiction and prove him to be a liar, because those defence lawyer habits still haven’t quite left him.

Ryunosuke: (Could it be… that Lord van Zieks has something to hide after all…?)

This is in the recap dialogue, as Ryunosuke’s musings vaguely nudge the player towards figuring out the connection with Klint’s autopsy. But it’s a bit much for him to take this as a sign that van Zieks has something to hide. That’s what Kazuma thinks is the case, but it’s also perfectly likely that van Zieks is claiming there’s no connection because it just never occurred to him! Have more faith in your client, Ryunosuke!

Ryunosuke: “So you’re not what the general public refer to as the infamous Reaper of the Bailey?” Van Zieks: “Exactly.” Kazuma: “Don’t imagine for a moment that the court will be satisfied with a one-word answer on this.”

Kazuma is wasting no time in being as savage as ever. How dare van Zieks try to establish his innocence with just a single word and think he can get away with that. Unacceptable.

Ryunosuke: (If you’re intending to comment on every sentence, this could take a while, Kazuma…)

Ryunosuke’s almost got used to Kazuma’s uncalled-for sniping at van Zieks by now, to the point that he’s mostly just exasperated by it, oof.

Van Zieks: “It felt like a betrayal, but… I demanded permission to search [Gregson’s] office at the Yard without his knowledge.”

Here we are, that bit I mentioned in the earliest post – he demanded permission. Almost like he didn’t actually enter Gregson’s office illegally after all, huh, Kazuma?

(Kazuma doesn’t comment on that part, of course.)

Van Zieks: “Jigoku had intended to implicate Hugh Boone. But unhappily for me, I arrived at the scene first.” Kazuma: “Hah! A ridiculously careless blunder!”

And here’s why it’s important that Jigoku was trying to frame Boone. There’s no way Jigoku would have ever tried to frame his superior, so if he’d been going for van Zieks all along, Kazuma wouldn’t have been able to deny that van Zieks can’t be the Reaper’s mastermind. But this way? Van Zieks totally just carelessly, foolishly stumbled into the trap set up by his underling for someone else, right, that’s definitely a mistake that a man who has orchestrated murders undetected for ten years would make.

Ryunosuke: (Moved on to just throwing insults around, I see then, Kazuma…)

Ryunosuke’s exasperated again, but he’s slightly missing the point here. This isn’t Kazuma insulting van Zieks for the heck of it – this is Kazuma insistently justifying to himself that van Zieks being the mastermind still makes sense. It’s those mental gymnastics of his in full force.

Ryunosuke: “Certainly as it stands, there’s no evidence to suggest that you concocted the scheme.” Kazuma: “Objection! But as it stands, we have only the accused’s insistence of his innocence.”

Um, Kazuma? Haven’t you heard of innocent until proven guilty? I’m pretty sure that should be the case in this British court, even if it kind of won’t be in Japanifornia in a century’s time. It’s so petty of him to butt in to insist that van Zieks claiming he’s innocent totally doesn’t prove anything at all.

Kazuma: “Perhaps there is some reason that would explain why he masterminded the assassin exchange. And if a reason could be established later in these proceedings… then the accused’s claim in this testimony that he wasn’t involved would amount to perjury.”

However, it’s not quite as petty as it sounds, because he is going somewhere with this. Obviously he intends to prove the reason that van Zieks did orchestrate the assassinations, so he’s making a point of van Zieks’s insistence of his innocence because he wants to let everyone know what lying liar that would make him. Kazuma is practically admitting here that literally his only reason for calling van Zieks to testify again is to make him guilty of perjury as well. Which… is really petty of him, in a somewhat different way.

Susato: “Clearly Kazuma-sama… intends to identify a reason and use it to make his case.” Ryunosuke: “So if we don’t identify something first…” Susato: “…He’ll gain the advantage!”

This is the game trying to justify why we have to be the one to point out the connection, even though it makes our client look worse, but it’s kind of flimsy. The facts are the facts – it shouldn’t matter which side is the one to point them out. Kazuma could perfectly well be the one to point this out himself, just like how he objected to van Zieks’s first testimony… but I guess the writers want to make the players play the game this time.

Kazuma: “………”

Still, we do get this textbox of pointed silence from Kazuma here, effectively showing him not objecting with the connection to Klint’s autopsy like we know he could. So perhaps this is him hoping – or trusting – or testing? – that Ryunosuke will point it out for him.

Kazuma: “I’m pleased to see the defence doesn’t intend to run from the undeniable truth.”

And this is his reaction as Ryunosuke presents the autopsy report, suggesting that that is indeed why he let his friend have this one. Look at him being proud of his friend for facing the truth even when it makes his client look bad.

Kazuma: “I’ve personally researched all of the court records relating to [the Professor] case.”

Of course he has. He must have been doing nothing else in the week after regaining his memories.

Kazuma: “But someone implored the powers that be to allow the autopsy to go ahead: Inspector Gregson. He declared that he was certain he would obtain conclusive proof from the procedure.”

And this is why Kazuma was so certain he’d get something out of Gregson if he threatened him on the Grouse, because this alone pretty much screams that something dodgy was going on. How could anyone be so sure that an autopsy would conclusively identify the killer?

Van Zieks: “Evidence that conclusively proved Genshin Asogi was guilty of the murders. In my brother’s dying moments, he mustered all his remaining strength to leave that vital clue behind.” Kazuma: “………”

Interesting how Kazuma doesn’t immediately butt in here to argue that this isn’t true. More than anything else, this is the moment in the trial that he’s been waiting for all along – the moment where he finally, finally gets to argue for his father’s innocence and clear his name. It seems, on this at least, he’s aware that he ought to take things slowly, and do this properly, and not seem so driven by emotion that he won’t be taken seriously.

Kazuma: “A marvellous victory, was it? I wonder if that’s really true.” Van Zieks: “What?” Kazuma: “Could the same be said if it turned out that the key piece of evidence in question was in fact fabricated? If the inspector, the coroner and the prosecutor all colluded together… to cast an innocent Japanese man as a mass murderer and send him to his death!”

He does manage to come across as fairly rational as he actually broaches the topic – although that last part there is definitely delivered with a lot of anger in it.

Kazuma: “And now, ten years later, for some reason the secret has been threatened and needs protecting. Which is why the inspector and the coroner had to be silenced… isn’t it? By someone in power in Japan and in Britain… using the two killers recruited for the assassin exchange!”

And he’s still able to seem like he brought this up purely for the purpose of supporting his actual argument at hand here, which is that van Zieks is the exchange mastermind and therefore also the Reaper. For now, Kazuma’s managing to keep a somewhat level head and not lose sight of what this trial is supposed to be for.

Kazuma: “Ten years ago, my father was convicted in this very courtroom as a mass murderer… to be sentenced to death. But it was all a sham! And I swore to myself that I’d prove it. Which is why I HAD to come to Britain… whatever the cost!”

…And yet, he’s not staying that level-headed. As soon as he’d finished with the actual rational case-relevant argument, it seems that he couldn’t help himself from exploding with the much more personal, emotional reason why this is so important to him. Oh, Kazuma.

Van Zieks: “You’ll have to forgive me if I feel compelled to toast this vengeful Nipponese’s tenacity of purpose here. However… he who fails to quash his emotions in the courtroom… has failed as a lawyer.”

I enjoy how van Zieks actually respects Kazuma’s sheer determination, even if most of it has ended up pointed at his throat. But of course he can also see that Kazuma’s beginning to get too inappropriately emotional here.

Ryunosuke: “Come on, Kazuma! You know this won’t wash! You’re claiming your father was misrepresented in a trial that took place a whole decade ago! You must see that without evidence, that’s nothing more than a wild accusation!”

And Ryunosuke’s also seeing that in his friend and trying to talk him down. He’s not expecting Kazuma to have any evidence other than his desperate earnest belief in his father’s innocence, because what evidence could Kazuma possibly have that hasn’t been uncovered in all these years?

Kazuma: “As it happens… I have evidence.”

Well. Sort of. What he has is his own word that Gregson admitted at sword-point to fabricating evidence, something Gregson is now too dead to testify about in court and confirm. So it’s not actually very good airtight evidence at all. Kazuma is definitely still leaning into the desperate-emotion side of things a bit here by trying to believe that this will work.

Gregson: “Right, I see… You’re that Asogi’s young lad, are you?”

I love what this line tells us about Genshin. The fact that Gregson’s thinking of Kazuma as “that young lad” means that Genshin must have talked about his son a lot to his colleagues, to the point that Gregson was still picturing Genshin’s son as a “young lad”. He’s only just reconciling in his mind here that, huh, said young lad is all grown up now and very angry about his father’s death.

Gregson: “And what? You’re gonna cut me down with that thing, is that it?”

Gregson’s tone here seems almost sceptical, like he doesn’t really think Kazuma would actually go through with it. Either that or he’s grown so tired from all of the crimes he’s committed for Stronghart that he’s kind of accepted the possibility of his death and doesn’t really care if Kazuma’s going to kill him here.

Kazuma: “So… you admit it then? The evidence used in my father’s trial was fabricated?!”

There’s some fun screen flashes and shakes here, which, despite this bit being from Kazuma’s POV so we can’t see his expression, does a lot to get across just how furious he must be to hear confirmation of this.

Kazuma: “Orders? What exactly did you do? …Speak!”

More fury-indicating flashes here – Kazuma is so sure that he knows exactly who gave the orders, but he desperately wants Gregson to confirm it, so that he can have proof (so he thinks, in the heat of the moment here, where he can forget that it won’t hold up in court) that everything was van Zieks’s fault.

Gregson: “I’m not sayin’ another word.” Kazuma: “Even if your life depends on it?”

And Gregson refusing to talk on this leads to Kazuma much more explicitly threatening his life. He needs to hear Gregson say this.

Gregson: “That’s right. Even then.” *Shing!*

Even then, Gregson still won’t give him what he wants. There is nothing Kazuma can do to get the confirmation he so desperately needs – and so, he finds himself suddenly, intensely wanting to kill this man. That swipe was not a warning strike.

See the gash that Karuma left behind in Gregson’s trunk? Look at the angle it’s subtly curving in. That doesn’t seem like a natural angle for a sword swipe to have happened at if the trunk were sitting upright and open on the floor, as a proxy for Kazuma’s redirected anger.

It makes much more sense if the trunk were held open and sideways at the moment of impact, as a shield used by Gregson to protect himself. Kazuma was striking directly at him.

Ryunosuke: “So that’s when the tip of the sword broke…” Susato: “Oh, Kazuma-sama…”

Susato’s got tears in her eyes, empathising with the pain Kazuma must have been feeling during that confrontation. I would say here that neither of them are imagining he had any murderous intent here – but then, their dialogue when re-examining Karuma’s tip in the trunk did suggest that their thinking was going somewhere in that direction. I’m sure they both want to believe it was intended simply as a warning, though.

Kazuma: “And then can only have been ordered to pervert the course of justice in that way by one man: The man leading the case for the prosecution, Barok van Zieks!” […] Stronghart: “In other words, the defendant DID have cause to organise this exchange of assassins!”

Oh my god, Stronghart. Look at him eagerly jumping on “hey, I can pin all of my crimes on van Zieks and get away with everything, excellent!” It wouldn’t surprise me if he handed Genshin’s trial over to van Zieks ten years ago precisely so that he could do exactly that if the corruption ever came to light.

Naturally, although Kazuma’s “proof” of the fabricated evidence is nothing but flimsy hearsay, so long as it’s being used to attack van Zieks, Stronghart is perfectly fine with not questioning it.

Van Zieks: “What you’ve just told the court… Are you absolutely certain of your facts? Did Gregson really fabricate evidence for that trial ten years ago?”

But hey, even though it’s not court-approved evidence, Kazuma’s words are also enough to sway van Zieks into realising who the real enemy is! So Kazuma’s ill-advised threatening of Gregson was actually worthwhile, despite everything.

Kazuma: “I heard it with my own ears. His shameful admission.”

Of course it was shameful. Anything that cast his father as a murderer and got him killed would be nothing less.

Van Zieks: “In that case… I know… the name of the Reaper.” Kazuma: “Wha… What?”

Kazuma’s surprised here – because van Zieks’s response is genuine, and a part of him must be able to see that. What do you mean, van Zieks is actually figuring out that the Reaper is someone who’s not him, as if he never was the Reaper at all???

Ryunosuke: “I believe I know who it is, too.” Kazuma: “You…?!”

What do you mean, Ryunosuke also knows who it is now?!?! Ryunosuke’s judgement is always right, so that must mean it actually isn’t van Zieks after all??? Inconceivable.

It’s not possible to ruin this moment with silliness by having Ryunosuke present someone random – if you choose anyone other than Stronghart, Ryunosuke just hesitates under the overwhelming pressure, and then gets penalised for wasting time. A neat way to not undermine the gravity of this!

Kazuma: “Wha…?! Lord… Stronghart…?”

Oh, Kazuma. He really had no idea that the man he’d been answering to and respecting as his superior was his true enemy all along.

Ryunosuke: “But he only took over the case after his brother, Lord Klint van Zieks, had been killed.” Kazuma: “…!”

He just didn’t know! Ugh, the pain that could have been avoided if Kazuma had only been aware of this simple fact. But of course Stronghart would have been sure to bury it so that it wouldn’t be easy to uncover, such that Ryunosuke only learned of it by talking to van Zieks (something Kazuma would never have dreamed of doing).

Van Zieks: “…Ten years ago… I was very new to my profession. But I had a burning desire to avenge my brother’s death, so I pleaded for control of the case.” Kazuma: “………”

Kazuma’s silence suggests that he’s actually listening. That some part of him is beginning to realise that this does make sense, and maybe it never was van Zieks at all. In particular, I’m sure he can understand the feeling of being desperate to avenge a loved one’s death, to the point of pleading for control of an important case despite being very new to prosecuting, hmmmm. Maybe he’s not so different from you after all, Kazuma!

Kazuma: “But I heard it from Gregson’s own lips! He admitted to it!” Stronghart: “…And where is your evidence?”

Of course, now Stronghart is quite happy to point out that Kazuma’s claim does not constitute evidence. Conveniently he just forgot to bring this up until he was the one being accused.

Ryunosuke: (Kazuma… He’s more or less waited his whole life for this moment. Is there really nothing else we can do now?)

Aww, Ryunosuke, not only caring about the truth but caring about the fact that this is so important to Kazuma! They are friends.

Kazuma: “Who, Ryunosuke, who? Tell me!” Ryunosuke: “Kazuma, I…” Kazuma: “Please! This trial can’t end! Not yet!”

Guhhh, Kazuma is so desperate and it hurts. And he believes so strongly that his best friend is awesome enough that he’ll have figured out some way to keep this trial going.

Ryunosuke: “……… I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for the truth.”

…This line really, really bugged me on my first playthrough. It reads like Ryunosuke’s basically saying he doesn’t care about how Kazuma feels about this at all, which I hated – and which is frankly just not true, since we just had a line from Ryunosuke moments ago in which he’s acknowledging how important this is to Kazuma! Ryunosuke knows full well that his best friend is in agony about this – there is absolutely no reason he shouldn’t be doing this both for the sake of the truth and to help Kazuma!

In my attempts to reconcile this line into something more acceptable, I came up with the notion that this is Ryunosuke trying to communicate to Kazuma that this can’t be about his emotions right now, because they’re in a court of law and what matters most is the truth, not what Kazuma wants to be true.

I’ve also seen another take on this line which is that it’s about Ryunosuke’s overall character arc of finding his path in life. Throughout this entire game, he’s been standing as a lawyer largely because he felt like he needed to carry on Kazuma’s path in his place. Ever since Kazuma turned out not to be dead, Ryunosuke has been conflicted over what that meant for him – what the point of him being here even was. This line could be intended to be the turning point in which Ryunosuke finally realises that he wants to be a lawyer not for the sake of Kazuma but purely for his own sake, because he’s realised that he truly cares about finding the truth.

Which I do really like! But I do also think that, if that was the intent of this line, it’s very awkwardly timed to make it seem like it’s not about that, because it really does come across as just Ryunosuke pushing aside his friend’s emotional pain and writing it off as irrelevant. Ugh.

Or, heck, the line should just have been worded ever so slightly differently. “I’m not just doing this for you. I’m doing it for the truth,” would have been so much better, because then Ryunosuke’s not diminishing the fact that he still cares about Kazuma’s feelings! He’d just be saying that the truth is also important to him, and perhaps even more so.

(We don’t even see Kazuma’s reaction to Ryunosuke’s line here… which does support the idea that the intent of the line was more about Ryunosuke’s own arc than about communicating anything to Kazuma, but, still. Mrgh.)

Stronghart: “Prosecutor Asogi, let me refresh your memory, as you seem to have forgotten the prosecution’s stance: Only minutes ago, you accused the defendant of being the Reaper and of masterminding the assassin exchange.” Kazuma: “I, I did, yes…”

Oh, Kazuma. In the desperation of the moment, he really does seem to have somewhat forgotten that he’s supposed to be backing up his argument that van Zieks’s is the Reaper, instead of focusing disproportionately on proving his father was framed for its own sake.

I also wonder if a little bit of his hesitation here is because he’s starting to be less sure that van Zieks really is the Reaper and wondering if this alternative possibility that it’s Stronghart might have some merit after all.

Kazuma: “I… I… At this time, I don’t have the requisite evidence.”

Kazuma does a remarkable job of shifting from flustered and agitated into formal courtroom demeanour in the space of one sentence here. He is, after all, very good at bottling everything up and pretending to be Fine on the surface.

Kazuma: “But that’s exactly why we need witness testimony!”

…Not that it takes long for hints of his desperation to begin shining through again.

Stronghart: “I’m afraid to say, Prosecutor Asogi… that you would appear to be possessed by the spirit of your late homicidal father.” Kazuma: “…!”

Yikes, Stronghart. Low freaking blow. He certainly knows how to emotionally manipulate people.

Stronghart: “As for you, Prosecutor Asogi… you will be remanded following these proceedings. Willingly, I trust… since you gave your word.” Kazuma: “Argh!”

And of course he’s quick to remind everyone that Kazuma is supposed to be arrested and tried for the whole assassin thing right after this. If the trial did end here just like Stronghart wants, I’m sure he’d ensure that Kazuma’s sentence for that is as severe as possible, to prevent him from continuing to try and find the truth.

I also like that he reminds Kazuma that he gave his word that he would go willingly, and that this in particular bothers Kazuma. He cares so much about being honourable and keeping to his promises! He really was willing to turn himself in and let them do whatever they wanted to him… just so long as he’d already got justice for his father first. He cannot let things end without having achieved his goal.

Stronghart: “This futile game of revenge is over… young Master Asogi.”

Kazuma’s breakdown is heartwrenching. His entire life has been leading up to this, and he’s ended up trapped in a situation where he had to finish things today or else he never would… and now that final chance has slipped out of his grasp. It’s over. He’s failed, and there’s nothing else he can do. Ghhhh, please give this poor man hugs.

I also like the wording of Stronghart’s damning line. Not only is he omitting Kazuma’s prosecutor title, but he’s not even calling him “mister” – it’s “young master”, like Kazuma’s just a child, playing a pointless game. In some ways, Kazuma really is still just a broken desperate grieving child, and in this moment, hearing these words must make Kazuma feel even more that way than usual, which Stronghart leaned into deliberately to make him give up. Damn.

Luckily, Sholmes is here to save the day!

(Sholmes’s appearance here actually hints at the fact that he has been somehow listening in on this trial. He quotes Stronghart’s line from the beginning verbatim, which he should not have been able to hear since he has not been allowed in the courtroom.)

“That’s right! We need to clear this up before that young Japanese fellow is remanded in custody!”

I adore Kazuma looking up with sudden, desperate hope as he realises that things may not be over after all. I also like that this is spurred by someone from the gallery actually mentioning him and seeming to care about the fact that he in particular deserves to see the truth of all this, even though, to them, he’s just some Japanese fellow. Shout-outs to that particular random person in the gallery. They are good.

Begrudgingly allowing the trial to continue, Stronghart first calls for a recess, but since it turns out Mikotoba is right here in the courtroom, there ends up not actually being one. Which means that Kazuma gets absolutely no time at all to properly recover from his agonising desperation and huge emotional breakdown – he just immediately has to pull himself back together and continue standing as the prosecution as if he’s perfectly fine. Guh. My Lord, I would like to request a recess anyway, because the prosecution needs a hug.

Ryunosuke: (I’m ready to head into the heart of this maelstrom and confront whatever horrors it tries to drown me under!)

There’s a fun little reference to Stronghart’s name pun here – the Maelstrom Heart. It’s fitting, with how he causes a storm of crimes and corruption all around him, but he himself, at its heart, remains seemingly clean of all wrongdoing.

I’m a 20 year old self taught artist who’s been drawing since about the age of 8 or 9

I can barely remember when exactly I started drawing but I know that it was a long ass time ago

Also I swear I lot so please pay no mind to it

I am gender fluid and bisexual

I'm the oldest of the band. I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed older sister to the others and I feel super protective of them. When I'm not making music with the band you can usually find me working on my comic or some other artistic pursuit. I'm a chronically exhausted college student. You can tell what songs I wrote by them having a more jazzy or melancholy tone to them or just being bat-shit off the walls insane. Synopsis: This series is an old one from my account on Quotev. It’s been about 2 years since I ever updated the series or even made any corrections to it. But, I decided to bring it over to this blog to hopefully revive the fandom even just a tiny bit and bring some more light to it. Anyways, onto the summary.

Summary: In the heart of Brooklyn, New York, dance is everything. Well, everything to normal people. Y/n, on the other hand, is not normal. Cursed with the ability to see and dispel negative entities on others, she chooses to not interact with anyone that’s not her family. However, when her brother and his group of friends go missing for half a year, she has no choice but to battle her way to the top, reunite with old friends and find out what really happened to her brother.

No One's pov Today was a beautiful day to be outside for everyone. Well, not everyone. "Ugh, come on, I swear on everything that I believe in, this level is gonna be the death of me." Said Y/n, frustration in the tone of her voice. "Still stuck on the level?" A young boy shouted from the kitchen.

"Yep. I’ve been stuck on this level for the last hour and it’s making me want to rage-quit." Y/n replied, annoyance on her face. "Well, how about you take a break? I made your favorite." Said the boy with a big smile on his face."That might be what I need. Thanks, Jason." “No problem, sis.” And with that end of that conversation, both siblings ate in silence.

Meanwhile, their older brother was at practice as usual. "Hey, Mo, what time did you say you had to get home? It’s getting pretty late." A teen asked his crew partner. The guy in question, Mo, perked up at the statement and quickly checked his phone. The bright screen flashed the time, 10:50 p.m., and he just knew he wouldn’t make it home in time. "Shit, they’re definitely gonna kill me this time." Mo exclaimed, panic spread across his face. “Yo, I’ll see you at school!” He shouted at his friend, halfway out the door when his friend responded with a quick ‘ok!’.

He quickly grabbed his stuff, put it in his bag,and sprinted to the train station to go home. After a 30 minute train ride and two mile sprint, Mo had finally reached the door to his house. As if on queue, the door swung open harshly to reveal Y/n and Jason, the former seething with unbridled rage. Mo let off a shaky smile of nervousness, slowly slinking his way to the door. His actions made both of the younger siblings move out of the way so that Mo could enter the house.

As soon as that door closed behind them, that’s when chaos erupted."Where have you been for the past three hours?!" Yelled Y/n, her eyes narrowing into a glare. "I was at practice like normal." Mo replied, moving to sit on the couch.”Even though your curfew was at 9?! You know you can't just stay out that long, you also have to keep up your good grades. I'm also worried about you and your safety. What if you had gotten robbed or hell, even attacked and we didn't know? This is Brooklyn, after all." Y/n said. "Who would take care of us then?" Jason asked, worried about his older brother. Hearing the break in his younger brother’s voice, it pulled a string in his chest. His eyes moved to his sister and despite the initial anger she had, he could see in her eyes that she had been scared and worried about him.

He then got up off the couch and leant down in front of his siblings. "Hey, don't give me that look, guys. I'm sorry for being late and I promise I’ll let you know if I’m coming home late next time." Mo said, laughing nervously. This brought small tears to the younger siblings' eyes and they swarmed in a tight hug. Mo hugged them back and kept apologizing until they all fell asleep on the couch.The Next MorningMo's Pov The next morning rolled around and I was woken up to the delicious smell of blueberry chocolate pancakes coming from the kitchen.'Y/n must be up then.’ I thought to myself, sitting up and letting out a big yawn, stretching my arms out before hopping up off the couch. Walking into the kitchen, I saw Y/n standing in front of the stove in her school uniform. "I know you’re there, Mo." She chimed, not even turning around to see me. "Aww, I wanted to scare you, but you ruined it." I said, pouting. "Well, I can't be scared so easily. Anyways, go wake up Jason and tell him to come eat." She said, putting two pancakes on each plate for all three of us. " Sure.” I replied, going to turn around but stopped. “Hey, are you okay ?" I asked Y/n, a bit curious by the look on her face. She stopped what she was doing and turned around to face me.

"What do you mean?" She asked, a strained smile on her face. "Well, you seem quieter than your normal self, so tell me what's going on." I said, crossing my arms. "Nothing is wrong, I'm just tired. That’s all." "Ok. If anything is bothering you, you can tell me." I said, before going upstairs to wake up Jason. Once I reached the top stairs, I saw Jason exiting his room in his uniform. "Hey, man, I was just coming to wake you up. Let's go and eat breakfast." I said, catching Jason's attention. "Huh, oh, sure." He murmured quietly. I was a bit concerned at the response, but I just shrugged it off and followed him down the stairs. When Jason and I reached the end of the stairs, we saw Y/n finishing her breakfast at the table. "Hey guys, hurry up and eat, we have to go to school in twenty minutes and Mo, once you're done eating breakfast, go put your uniform on." Y/n said, finishing the last bite of her meal. Both Jason and I nodded then sat down and started to eat.

Placing her dishes in the sink, Y/n went to the living room where her school bag was and checked to see if she had everything. As soon as she saw that everything was in order, she zipped up her bag and went back to the kitchen. She then looked at us as if she was rushing for us to finish our breakfast.

Luckily we were done to the last bite, so we finished rather quickly and washed our plates. I went upstairs to change into my uniform. Once I was done changing, I put on my shoes and went downstairs. "Hurry up, Mo. We're going to be late." Y/n yelled from downstairs

"Ok, ok. Now I'm ready." I said, finishing the knot on my shoe. We then left the house to see that a car was parked outside the house. "Hey, Mo, come on." Said a boy around Y/n's age. "Sure, see you two at home." I said, kissing Y/n on her forehead and ruffling Jason's hair.

They didn't like those gestures and pulled away and started walking to school. I gave one last look towards them before getting in the car with the others. " Hey, Mo, who were those guys?" Said the boy from before. "Those were my younger siblings. Let's just go Glitch. " And with that, we pulled out of the driveway and down the street.

Y/n's pov After last night, Jason and I had decided to forgive Mo for missing curfew. Though, it didn’t mean that I was happy about it. We began making our way to school after Mo left with his group of friends in their car. The walk to school wasn’t too long and as soon as we reached the gates, Jason and I parted ways. Him, going to his classes, and me, heading to the commons area where I meet up with my own group of friends. We had hung out for a bit, catching up on the latest in our lives before the bell rang for us to get to class. It felt like deja vu - like the first day of school all over again only this time, we’re all saying good-bye to each other. An hour into the school day, the bell rang once more signaling that it was lunch time.

Walking around the school building, my phone's notification ring went off alerting me that I had a text. I pulled my phone from my pocket to see that the message was from Mo. 'Meet me in the courtyard in front of school, there's some people I want you to meet. - From Mo'. I quickly replied with 'sure' and headed towards the courtyard.

Once I was in the courtyard, I scanned the area looking for my brother to see him near the fountain with some people. I started to head over there when I heard my name being called. Looking around for the person calling me, I saw my best friend, Julianna, waving her arms to get my attention. Running towards her, I had forgotten what I was previously doing and Mo had noticed that.Mo's Pov After I had sent Y/n the text asking her to meet up in the courtyard, I put my phone in my hoodie pocket and waited. As I waited for her to show up, I turned back to the conversation Aubrey and Bodie were having. The conversation lasted for about five minutes when I saw Y/n walking over, more like running since the courtyard is really huge. Though, she went up to someone else before she even saw me. Laughing to myself, I continued to wait until the conversation was over. Though, the conversation didn’t last long before I felt a force knock me forward. However, I didn’t catch my balance in time and fell to the ground.

“Dammit, Mo, you were supposed to catch me. Not let me fall to the ground.” Y/n groaned in pain. "You okay though?" I asked her, standing up before checking to see if she had any injuries. "Yeah, I'm fine." She said, brushing herself off and rising to her feet. I then nodded and led her over to the group. "Guys, I want you to meet my sister, Y/n. Y'all saw her this morning." I said to the guys. "Hi, it's nice to meet you all." Y/n said, a smile spread across her face. " Aww, she's so cute, isn't she?" Said Aubrey.

"Yeah, how old are you?" Asked Emilia, "I'm 17, so I'm just a year or two younger than you guys except the guy with green dye in his hair." Y/n explained. Aubrey and Emilia looked surprised and turned to me for confirmation. I nodded to them. “I could’ve sworn you were younger than that.” “Anyways, This is Emilia, Bodie, Aubrey, Angel, Taye, Lil’ T and Glitch.” I explained, pointing to them as I said their names. "Why is she so short?" Glitch asked. An irk mark appeared on Y/n's forehead as she started to get angry. "Dude, you shouldn't have said that." I said, going to hold Y/n back before she blew up. "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? I'M NOT SHORT, WE'RE TECHNICALLY THE SAME HEIGHT YOU ASSHOLE! LET ME AT HIM, HE DESERVES A GOOD PUNCH IN THE FUCKING DICK!!!!!!!!" Y/n yelled while struggling to get out of my grip. Everyone looked at us in shock while Glitch got scared and hid behind Bodie.

"Wow, she's feisty." Said Angel. Once Y/n was calm, I let her go as she huffed in anger. "Now that she's met you guys, we have to go get our little brother and head home." I said. Everyone mumbled out an ‘okay’ before Y/n spoke up. "Would you guys like to eat dinner with us?" Y/n asked. "Sure." Everyone agreed. "That sounds great! What time should we swing by?" Asked Aubrey. "Around 7:30 if that's okay with you guys." Y/n replied with a small, gummy smile. Everyone looked at each other and nodded at each other, agreeing with the time arrangement.

"Great, so meet us at our house at the agreed time." I said. “You can also bring something if you want, but it doesn’t really matter.” Everyone nodded before turning to leave and go about their business. After setting up plans to meet up, I turned to see Y/n walking away. "Hey, where are you going?" I asked, running up to her. "I'm going to go meet up with Jason. After that, we’re going to the store to shop for dinner." She replied.

After everything was said and done, Y/n left and I went back to my group, who were standing by my car. "So, that's your little sister then. I have to say, she's pretty feisty." Aubrey said with a little smirk. "Yeah, anyways, I'm gonna go and head home. See y'all later." I said, getting in my car. "See ya." All of them said. After that, I drove off back to my house.

If you’re requesting something from Call of Duty Zombies, I’m still learning the lore and everything and I only write Richtofen as of now

For Danganronpa, I’ll write for the games only. I haven’t seen the anime yet, reason why I can’t write for it. I’ll also write for any character except Celeste and anyone from the anime and Ultra Despair Girls. My favorite characters to write for are Teruteru and Hifumi

For the Super Mario Bros Movie, I’ll only write for Bowser for right now

For Villainous, I haven’t seen the show yet but I have seen the shorts so I won’t write for anyone from the show only yet

I have the right to reject a request for whatever reason (I think I can’t write it, it’s not a fandom I’m in, I’ve already written something too similar to it, I’m uncomfortable with it, etc) and I might either answer your ask politely rejecting your request or I just delete the ask

If I'm obsessed with a certain fandom I'll be more focused on writing for it but I don’t mind if you request something from a different fandom (though I prefer if you request something from the fandom(s) that I’m currently obsessed with)

I’m a lazy procrastinator who fears I won’t be good at interpreting the characters well. It might take a while for me to finish your request because I either procrastinated, didn’t know how to write the character you requested, or both. Another reason why I wouldn't finish a request quickly is because I had a lack of motivation and/or inspiration which has been happening a lot recently, so if your request takes longer from that then I sincerely apologize

Please be specific when requesting something, if you aren't specific I'll assume you're fine with something random. And for polyamorous relationships, please specify the relationship (ex: Is Character A and Character B dating each other and the reader or are they simply friends who are both dating the reader?)

Crossovers are welcome here, the only rule is it has to be in my list of fandoms. You can still ask me if I know a certain TV Show/movie/video game/book/anime. If you request anything anime, chances are I don’t know it since I haven’t seen a lot of anime. I want to watch more, though (at some point)

What is Murder The Crow?

Since late 2018 up until 2022, I have been wrestling with writing, constructing and shaping the world of < Murder The Crow > more specifically, the place known as Kingshaven through the eyes of my main character; Sadie mac Lir.

In this post, I’m going to provide an update on what is this series all about as well as breakdown the overall development so far. If you are new to my blog and you don’t know what is going on. This post will be a good guide.

- Kingshaven: EXPLORED -

I’ve thought about this a lot recently. In all of my posts about < Murder The Crow > I’ve included the name Kingshaven and Kingshaven Academy.

“But where/ what is Kingshaven?” I hear you ask.

Well, its just a name I decided to adopt and use to explain away where my characters and creatures live. The name for Kingshaven is mostly inspired by the Blue-eared kingfisher.

Named as Haven based on a real life location in my country; [Peacehaven in Genting Highlands] and loosely laid out in terms of environment from; [Mount Singai, Bau]

I was always inspired by fiction where the main characters go to a camp or school to learn and train in magic or combat. Preparing to defend themselves against other monsters who seeks to do them harm. Camp Half-Blood is a very good example in the fictional world. As a youth, I used to go to an annual year end Youth camp under different locations.

That sense of exploration, the atmosphere of being among youths. The mass gathering, the cliques, the participation of activities has always been my joy and my aim to recapture that magic once more in the Haven. Overtime, I decided to create an entire country/ island instead. Inspired by the playground world of To Aru; [Academy City]

I envisioned it to be an island that is wildly populated and untamed by ancient forests, mountains, rivers and caves and the city being a walled up place as protection from calamities and other horrible monsters adorned with artistic outdoor furniture. Standing on the edge of an unreachable cliff is the legendary tip of the buried giant obelisk that glows from day and night. Whose origin is still unknown but is the sole reason for the very existence of the Hoodlites and Salkites; The Mysterious Burning Core.

As a civilization, Kingshaven is considered as an advanced civilization but slightly out of time. Having most of their machines and devices being older than other parts of the world. While the world functions by science, Kingshaven thrives under the trade system of shards between the humans and the Hoodlites/ Salkites. Living under the influence of the STAB system as their version of science and source of power.

- Meet the Characters -

What started as just my former HPHM OC; Sadie mac Lir living in her own world. Specifically an ancient school known as; Kingshaven Academy eventually evolved into questions filled with more characters. Such is the case for Hector James Dagger.

As a way to make Hector stand out more against the other male characters. I decided to give him blacken out eyes. Despite him intended to look scary turned out to be well received by some of my audience. Calling him cute or handsome. Unintentionally ended up as the edgy cool guy character.

This gave me the confidence to come up with a new character to fulfill the ole saying “See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil” This eventually gave me an excuse to revive an old mate, [Jamie Ann Robyn] back from the void but still with no clear reason and story to her return.

Allowing me to shape the different types of people one will meet when visiting the Haven. The people at Kingshaven are slightly peculiar. While they are mostly human. They each have unique features on their faces.

Elvenlead - Elf ears with the perk of heightened hearing but with the drawback of temperature sensitivity.

Hollowaye - Darken out eyes with the perk of night vision or being able to see some unseen things but with the drawback of light sensitivity.

Grimmjaw - Sew mouths with the perk of needles containing venom but with the drawback of a tasteless tongue.

With these three conditions/ features. I was able to make a unique mark on the various designs found in my characters. It is a way for me to make my designs outstanding with the different features as well as the difference in head types.

As a personal note, the head shapes don’t define the boys from the girls. They are universally used by all. The noses are triangular facing up or down and they have mostly wide eyes. With that said, I have been testing out a more Chibi version of my characters which suggested [the Lite-noids] which I am hoping to bring back in some way or form.

- The Haven’s Creatures -

Aside from just [Hoodlites and Salkites: REBORN] There are also additional beings who shares the same form and loyalty to the Core in different ways.

The creatures found in Kingshaven are all creations of the Burning Core. Their powers are universally based on the STAB System and for some, they share more than one ability. To easily break this down, here are all the explored beings so far.

Hoodlites - group based beings, individualistic but united for the same duty and goal. The name means; hooded, little beings. Inspired by the Teru Teru Bōzu. The Japanese rain ghost talisman of blessings and from the Aos sí in Irish mythology. The fairy folks who acts as helpers and fierce guardians to kind humans that offers food.

Salkites - duo based beings, preferring to work with partners to achieve their goals with less. The name means; single focused and superior beings. Inspired by the Fomorians in Irish mythology.

[Cycatopus] - much less of a race rather, an individual clone race under Vox of The Red. They act as the physical embodiment of the white blood cell to the Lite-noids. Inspired by the Instagram logo but just for shits and giggles cause normal eyes is too normal.

Insight; As much as I wanted to stick the design to the name established for the Hoodlites and Salkites. I felt too restricted in terms of the variations I want to make which changed several times from fully limbed to just tails. These scrapped ideas will eventually lead to the new redesign of the Hoodlites being in a metaphorical hood/ persona. Changing the lore completely which I am very happy with.

The Salkites on the other hand is a later addition. They started out as fast slithering beings, similar to eels. More akin to the name itself which also suffered the same issues of being too restricted. In my desperation, I toyed around with the new Hoodlite design which prompted a new additional change of one eye to represent the new Salkites. A Yin to the Yang so to speak.

Next, we have the most recent addition; The Broncopod or Rudy. I loved the idea of a kaiju or monster that is very dinosaur based and so, by using an old idea that used to be for the Salkites. It developed to become an idea for the Broncopod.

I consider Sadie, Hector, the Hoodlites and the Salkites as the first phase to the development of the < Murder The Crow > Mythos. While the Cycatopus and Broncopod as the second phase. That said, My rule of thumb is, if it hasn’t reached digital stage. Its not considered as canonical and even if it has. There is a high possibility that I will change it for the better.

- Power Systems and Weapons -

The world of Kingshaven is solely powered by the STAB System which is short for; Stan, Tide, Ange and Bolt. Which is inspired and slightly altered by the real life scientific theory; The States of Matter.

This theory is the physical embodiment of material that can cause an effect to the world at large and is harnessed by the Hoodlites and Salkites With each being having one Burning Core and one ability. Their abilities each have a certain color and their effects are as addressed;

Stan (Solid) - Cubes that is similar to crystals. They are a lot tougher to break and they act as buildable bricks the user can use to build and forge new constructs.

Tide (Liquid) - Blast of water that is similar to goo or polyester. The material can also change in terms of its thickness with different effects. Often used in weapons since its the easiest one to find.

Ange (Gas) - Blades of pocket air that functions under its own laws. Its able to cause irritations, helpful for getaways. Its also able to increase and decrease the speed of objects it comes in contact with.

Bolt (Plasma) - Beam of charged energy that can break anything. Known simply as the strongest material, its also considered one of the most difficult element to capture.

These powers also leave behind shards. Small bits that the humans picked up to forge their own weapons and tools. Each customized and personified to the wielder's personality.

As for other skills and powers, there is also the various features found in the humans as well as their ingenuity to build more advanced weapons to defend themselves. Interestingly, I had this concept for making a popular weapon to be around the size of the sonic screwdriver like in Doctor Who but with the transformable option; Melee/ Range as seen in RWBY.

- Caw’s mythology: UNBOUND -

The intent of this post is to for me to give in to my demons for worldbuilding and allowing my ideas to take form in some existing record. All that you have read is a collection of my unbound creativity existing in a sandbox. Waiting to be used as props for storytelling reasons.

Taking inspiration from HP Lovecraft’s willingness to allow his correspondence to precure his props and world for their own interpretation. It is still an infant but its steadily growing and this is just the beginning.

At its core, < Murder The Crow > is as the title suggested. The mission to kill a certain creature/ person known to be as the Crow. Who is the Crow? I have no idea yet but I ask for attention cause when you least expect it. The Crow will appear and calamity will fall.

For now though, this is all that I have. If you wish to know more and join the Hood. Adopt a Hoodlite/Salkite now and hunt for the Crow together with Sadie and Hector. Let the hunt begin!

Genderqueer Sanji Muse Update

Moving forward, there's going to be a physical change to my Sanji.

This is something I have been debating since reviving this blog in October. But after a long discussion and headcanon fest with @cnigiri, I finally came in a decision last night. My only regret is that I'm posting this so close to Sunday, so I'm stating this here and now: this is not a kink thing, it's just a gender presentation thing specifically for my genderqueer Sanji.

So, From this point on in all Post-TS threads, Sanji has A-cup sized breasts.

He's keeping them a secret from the crew. The only person he's actually told about this is Chopper, as he is Sanji's doctor. Chopper's been sworn to secrecy under threat of no more dessert, ever.

Important: From Punk Hazard onward, it's obvious that Nami would find out about this new feature as she was in Sanji's body. Nami post-PH will know.

____~Muse Facts~____

_ Most days he dresses a bit oppressively in several layers to keep the others from finding out. Most days, outfits are: bra, undershirt, dress shirt, suit coat or vest.

_ Sanji still suffers from internalized toxic masculinity and internalized transphobia (from Judge). It causes him a lot of emotional distress and mental anguish but having his body this way gets rid of his body dysphoria. For the first time ever, he feels comfortable in his own skin. But his confidence over his new appearance is hanging by a thread. A single snide comment or mocking remark could shatter the glass spiderweb that Sanji calls his self-esteem.

_ Sanji only showers by himself or with Chopper now. Bath houses are difficult for him. He wears a towel from the chest down so that everything is covered. Even if he's having a great day, he'll put on a bad attitude so no one questions why he's so closed off and crossing his arms over his chest in the bath.

_ Sanji still suffers from dysphoria but from one of two sources: either he's being forced (by circumstance or his own fear) to wear masculine clothes when he's feeling feminine or genderless. The second reason is because for some reason, that particular day his facial hair makes him feel gross but he refuses to shave because he knows he'll regret having shaved the next day.

_ All he has is one lacey bra that's an awful pastel pink, it was given to him by Iva's girls. He hates it and he's wearing it out from using it every day. Plus sleeping in it, as that's the only way to keep it hidden from such nosy crewmates. He's too scared to go shopping for a new one and doesn't know what his size is anyway.

I didn’t really have an opinion on him throughout the series, then I read the Illustrated Guide and decided I liked him - if only for how he handled the Sam/Emily clusterfuck and REVIVED her after she was hurt. My dude is the same age as Jacob, probably 15y/o at the time, and he handled it like a bloody champ.

So I'll send you an ask here so as not to clog-up the lawandordersource blog with my love for Mike and Connie. But yes! I did catch the how the board had Mike and Connie and, much like you, I now headcanon it that Mike and Connie are back in the office somewhere. From what I've read, most DA's offices have a Chief Assistant DA that acts more on the operations and administration of the office and is more traditional the office's second-in-charge. There was a character in SVU, Chief Assistant DA Charlie Phillips and he mentions that he gave a case to an appreciative McCoy (was a slam dunk) to Cabot in some talk they were having, And there was statement by Cabot that it was rumored he would run against Nora Lewin.

But I headcanon that after Mike's stint as SVU Bureau Chief and his prior experience as... I think it's now all but confirmed that the EADA on the mothership is the... Homicide Bureau Chief that Jack promotes him to Chief Assistant to handle the administrative end of the office and Connie came back as a Bureau Chief (hey if they can bring back Jamie Ross as an ADA, let me have this people).

I kinda hold out hope that if/when Sam leaves the show, they'd bring back Linus Roache as the DA with the justification that operationally and with his prosecutorial experience, he's best equipped to handle a smooth transition.

Plus I just want to see Cutter tear into Price.

No shade against Hugh Dancy, but when Price said he was the best after Jack says there were 20 other homicide prosecutors that could have taken the case (and should have!) I said to my friend as we were watching, "In a ranking of 21 Homicide Prosecutors, I'd rank you 22 Nolan."

Sorry for the long ask again but that's just how I headcanon that board (changes be damned).

hehehe we can be on that headcanon bandwagon together! (i just feel like it'd be in character for the two of them anyway—Mike would definitely be a lifer in the DA's office, and i can totally see connie returning in like a "oh, i can't stay away from you, manhattan!" scenario, lol.)

it's easy to envision Mike in that kind of second-in-command position for jack the way you described (it's funny but i just started a rewatch of the early SVU seasons and i just saw the episode where they introduce Chief ADA Charlie Phillips. very funny to see him show up periodically in the original later in the run as a different defense attorney, haha.)

and yeah i feel like enough time has passed that both mike and connie could easily handle those respective positions (would love to have seen Connie as a lead prosecutor at some point on screen—she nails that closing in the season 17 finale—but i think that might be beyond what the writers on the revival are capable of delivering right now, ugh.)

[side note - THANK YOU for pointing out that weird thing with Jamie!!! they're telling me that she was a defense attorney, then an ada, then a defense attorney again, then a judge (okay fine, i'm still on board, this is a somewhat normal career trajectory so far) and then SHE BECAME AN ADA AGAIN???? who goes from judge back to being an attorney??? i was happy to see her again but then just make her the trial judge!!!! please l&o i can be your continuity person, you need one]

HAHAHA i've had SO many laughs with my roommates (we watch the show every week anyway and play a drinking game called "Claw & Order" named after the White Claw seltzer) about Price (no hate to Price fans, he's just not my cup of tea) doing bizarre things or totally bungling cases. maybe he's "the best" because he screws up royally in nearly every episode and then still wins almost every case???

i would LOVE to see Linus come back as DA Mike, i could definitely see him as being more of a hardliner compared to the revival's characterization of Jack (when they feel compelled to write him any dialogue, lol). (and i wouldn't mind seeing him rake Price over the coals hehehe. i can't tell you how many times Price gets reticent about prosecuting or something and i'm just like "Mike would be foaming at the mouth right now LET IM AT EM")

for the record, long (or short) asks about l&o are ALWAYS welcome!!! i feel like i'm just finding the l&o contingent on tumblr (especially the seasons 18-20 gang) so it's always a blast to chat about it with people who clearly know their stuff and have great takes.

Ding ding ding

You scrambled across your sofa, quickly pausing the drama you were watching to answer your call. At the first swipe, you saw that it was a FaceTime from your boyfriend, Jin. You answered it immediately, hearing the familiar whoosh sound before your boyfriend popped up on your screen.

“Hey Y/N!!! Happy Birthday!!!” You saw him get close to the camera, sending lots of kisses and finger hearts your way. You giggled, giving him a finger heart back.

“Gah-” he shifted backwards, hands over his heart. “Help- I’ve been shot by true love! I need revival!” His squinted eyes and dramatic voice prompted you to laugh, a wholesome, eyes closed, heart’s content laugh. He smiled, quickly taking a picture of your cute frame.

“So how is my awesome girlfriend doing?”

“Missing her boyfriend.” You pouted, hands going to your waist.

“Oh no….” He looked sideways before quickly looking up. “I wish I could be there now! I’m the dream fairy, remember? I can fly there right now-” he folded his arms to look like tiny wings, flapping them as he wiggled in his seat.

“Jin!” You laughed. He smiled up at you, teasing look still in his eye. A notification bell went off on his side, which he ignored.

“You sure that’s not important?” You pointed at your screen.

“Nah. You’re definitely more important.” He winked, making you gasp jokingly.

“Did you get the package?” He asked suddenly.

“What..package?” You furrowed your eyebrows and tilted your head. Your eyes looked up as you went through your mental list- no, there weren’t any packages today.

“Check now?” He shrugged his shoulders as he suggested.

“Okay then….” You walked over to your door, unlocking and opening it. You heard faint but loud footsteps before you popped your head out into the hallway, watching a foot just turn the corner followed by whispered laughs. You squinted, but looked back to the ground in front of you. Low and behold, a medium sized cardboard box.

“Huh?” You picked up the small package, hearing chuckles from the other side of the call. “What is it?”

“Open it!” He encouraged, hoisting both of his arms up.

“Okay, okay! Gimme a second.” You laughed, quickly getting an exacto knife to open the box. When you returned, you sat criss cross, placing your phone on a stand before cutting the tape. Jin waited patiently on the other side with a suspicious smile.

You opened the box, finding a basket. Inside were preserved roses, those big flowery ones that you liked. Happy and hopeful, always bringing a smile to your face.

“Awwww, Jin,”

“You like them?” He said, a hit of nervousness in his voice.

he set his fork down, a quiet clatter against the calm backdrop of the sunset. you spooned the last of your meal into your mouth, delicately picking up your glass of wine. he looked at you, a small grin resting on his lips as he lifted his own glass in a toast. a ��clink” and a few sips later, dinner was back to comfortable silence. he glanced to the desert menu, whispering his order to you as you giggled. predictably sweet. after the waiter had retreated back to the kitchen to ring up your orders, hoseok glanced at the seat next to him, an unspeakable wish radiating from his eyes. you knew him well enough, these past few years were what led to your closeness after all. and within a second you were seated next to him, his arm unseemly merging with your side. you leaned back, one hand playing with the hem of your shirt while the other reached for your camera. holding it up to the sunset, you captured two suns as the camera shutter clicked, smoothly printing out a polaroid you would remember forever. him, with the beautiful shoreline behind, the sun basking his profile in a golden glow. he laughed when he saw the photo, claiming that it lacked the most important person in his world: you. and so you hid behind a shy smile as he took a photo of you, with the sun, the rumbles of boats, and the lapping of waves in the background. dessert arrived soon after, you cutting off a piece to feed his pleading heart. when you had your bite, the flavors exploded in your mouth, eyes going wide, and even wider as you caught a flash go off- hobi with the camera. the waiter, seeing the camera in hoseok’s hands, offered to take a picture of you both. with a grateful smile, you gave your camera to him. he took a few steps back as you planned out your pose. looking at his shining eyes besides yours, you bit your lip in anticipation as you worked out your plan. as the waiter took the picture, you would turn quickly to place a light kiss to his cheek. it was small, but you thought it would be sweet, a perfect memory for this occasion. as he counted down, you prepped inside your head, smiling at the camera before he said “one” then turned, expecting to meet his cheek- the world stopped and you opened your eyes. it seemed that hoseok had the same idea as you, except now that it wasn’t a quick kiss to the side, but was instead fireworks, butterflies, and liquid sunshine. he broke apart first, laughing, but his forehead was still pressed against yours. a click followed, watching as the waiter took a few extra photos to capture the moment. and there wasn’t anything that could make it better. until slowly, the laughter died down and he looked at you again, one you thought was full of amusement, but one you now recognized as love. so when he leaned in, you met him halfway, just like you always did.
