So I had to write this and get the brainworm out of my head. As I wrote it, I imagined Raph and reader being in a QPR. You'll see and then agree.
Word count: 771
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Raph is a pretty big guy- actually scratch that, he's never seen anyone bigger than him. So when you decided you wanted to be crushed, he was very startled. The day went a little like this-
You walk into the lair, dragging your feet.
"Oh hey Y/N!" Mikey called from the kitchen.
"Mmm," you mumble as you unshoulder your backpack and flop onto the couch.
"You alright?" Mikey walks over in front of you. You groan loudly into the cushion, and you practically hear Mikey frown.
"Raph! Y/N's here!"
There's a loud bang from the bathroom down the hall before Raph emerges, looking mildly disheveled.
You can't help but chuckle from where you'd turned your head to peek at him. The turtle looks like he just got out of the shower. Your face flushes as he stares at you, turning back into the cushion.
"Is everything alright, Y/N?"
You groan into the cushion again, louder. A few seconds pass, before Raph's telltale footsteps draw close and you're scooped into muscled arms.
"Bleghh," you loll your head dramatically, grinning lightly at your captor. He chuckles, a deep rumble that always manages to warm you.
He begins trudging to his room, leaving Mikey behind. Nudging the door open with his foot, he settles you comfortably on his bed.
"You're off today," he murmurs. You shrug. "It's been an off day."
It's true. Nothing particularly bad or uncomfortable happened today, yet you'd felt itchy in your own skin. It had eased with the physical contact Raph was so generously giving you, but now that he's hovering near you on the bed, the feeling is creeping back.
Raph turns and grabs something off one of his floating shelves, and holds it out to you.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
He has a singular penne-shaped pasta between his fingers, and you choke on a laugh.
April had come down with food supplies to teach Mikey how to cook something other than pizza, and the first night was chicken Alfredo, with penne pasta. Mikey ended up spilling the box of pasta across the kitchen, and they had to salvage what they could. A week later, Raph found a singular pasta under the couch, and kept it for some reason? And every time he presents it to you, you can't help but laugh at the origin story.
When you're done hacking up a lung, you settle on the bed, looking at the cracks in the ceiling. "I'nno, there's just this weird itch that's been bothering me."
Now Raph looks confused. "Can you not reach it? Is it your back? Or," he asks seriously, "is it one of those ones that moves when you try to scratch it?"
"No, it's, like, my whole body. Dunno why."
Raph pouts, flopping across your legs and stomach (carefully, of course. He's aware of his mass).
A second goes by.
And then your breath stutters.
The pressure is like warm lightning spreading down your stomach and legs, soothing the aches and the itch.
"Um, Raph?" You begin hesitantly. He lifts his head from your stomach, ever so innocently looking at your face.
"Can you come up here?" You pat your chest, unable to look at his eyes longer.
"Awoh, Y/N, I can't. I'd hurt ya."
You sigh, closing your eyes as he settles back on your stomach.
A few minutes pass.
"Hey Raph?"
"Yea doll?"
"Come 'ere." You wave him forward, and after a few seconds of hesitation, he pulls himself over you, face hovering above yours. You open your eyes to meet his. He looks almost... nervous.
You reach up to gently cup his head with both hands.
Then he yelps as you clunk your forehead against his.
"Raphael, I need to be crushed this instant."
His eyes widen as you stare him down, centimeters apart. He swallows, and opens his mouth, to protest most likely, but you add, "Please."
He holds your gaze for another moment, sighs, and slowly moves his head to your collarbone.
"If anything is uncomfortable-"
"I'll make sure you know, I know the drill, mate."
He finally settles, fully draped across you, and you feel like you can breathe a little easier, despite the massive turtle currently crushing you. In fact, you've all but melted into the bed, mind blissfully blank.
Minutes pass, and you're on the edge of dozing off when you hear yourself murmur, "Deep pressure therapy."
"Hm?" Raph perks up a little.
"'s deep pressure therapy. Tha's wha's goin' on."
You hope you get your point across because you're really fucking tired and warm and comfortable and the world is already dark and ope. You're asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm considering writing a part two for Raph's perspective as well. Hope you enjoyed, and if you see any errors, no you don't

Assuming you don't have an excess of NRFTW prompts already, mayhaps a missing scene of Mikey confronting Leo about that "Don't kill yourself for a corpse" line? Because I just *know* he had a lot of feelings about that, diversion or no. 👀👀
Me: That should be pretty straightforward Me: ...only now I want to address some other stuff, so-- /17 pages later
The Jupiter Jim figurines that April had put on the bedside stand were gone, replaced by a tray of Mikey’s paints, and Draxum’s (lab? Secret lair? He insisted it wasn’t a castle--) place was dead silent.
They were moving today. Donnie had declared their new residence-to-be hygienically and structurally sound enough to begin the shift over, but Leo was still benched. And Mikey was also benched—unfairly, as far as he was concerned, but Draxum had pushed for him to stay out of the heavy lifting.
(“There’s being able to lift a pound or two, and there’s being able to shift furniture and boxes. It’s a world of difference,” the old goat had said patiently. “Yes, you’re doing much better, but don’t try your luck.”
“But I can use my chains, they won’t weigh—”
“Ahhh, yes. Your chains. With your mystic energy. And what have we said about using your mystic energy?”)
Donnie had told him outright to be thankful he had an excuse to sit this out. But it was Raph who mollified him by pointing out that leaving Leo here entirely on his own probably wouldn’t be the greatest of ideas. Both because he was still hurt and might need help, would be feeling kind of useless and in need of morale—and because a lonely and bored Leo was often a dumb Leo, and if he would listen to anyone and just stay put, it was gonna be Mikey.
And fair. Sometimes Leo definitely required a Delicate Touch.
Today, he’d apply one of a different kind.
Leo’s shell was a mess of fibreglass patches and newly sealed cracks still fragile in some places—Donnie had come up with a thin protective cover for the bulk of them, but the whole look wasn’t pretty and his brother was self-conscious about it. Not that he’d said as much, but the fact that he pulled the blanket right up over it even when it was warm spoke volumes.
Also, Mikey’s fingers itched every time he looked at it. He wanted to make it look awesome. Hence--
“Give me some suggestions?” Leo said. “You’re the artist.”
“Could do a cool dragon?”
“Mmm. Yeah.”
Well, that was noncommittal. He thought Leo would like a dragon. Mikey frowned. “You know I’ll paint whatever you want. I don’t care what it is.”
Leo chuckled. “Well, that’s way open to abuse.”
“I’m serious!”
“Hmm.”
And he was quiet again. This time, Mikey frowned at him. Was it time for morale boosts already? It seemed a bit early--
“Hey.”
“Mmm, yeah, I’m thinking.”
“Thinking about what?”
“Thinking abooout… how I can abuse your mad painting skills?”
“Leo.”
“Seriously, what if I got you to draw, like, a terrible cartoon of Barry falling off a roof or something.”
“...really?”
“You did say anything.”
Mikey narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “I mean sure, if that’s what you really want.” Though it was such a cheap shot he didn’t think Leo even tried with that one; it felt more like misdirection. “Didn’t know you were so obsessed with him you wanted a reminder painted on you, but—”
“Oh pizza supreme, ew.” Leo shuddered, mashing his face into the pillow. “When you put it like that—”
“So what are you thinking about?”
“Rude.”
“Answer the question, Leon.”
“Ruder. No privacy. Maybe I’m thinking that I miss pizza.”
“You get some tomorrow.”
“What about now?” he whined.
“Leo?”
“Miguel.”
“Do you not want me to paint your shell?” Leo hesitated, and Mikey squinted at him. “We don’t have to.”
“...it’s not that,” Leo muttered, muffled by the pillow. “I do, but…”
Time to pull out the big guns. He flopped onto the bed next to him, offering his best puppy eyes and trembling lip when Leo shifted to face him. “Do you think I’ll do a bad job?”
“What?” Leo pulled back a little, looking panicked. “Of course not! You’re amazing, I just—”
Mikey grinned at him cheerfully. And then stuck his tongue out for good measure.
“—who taught you how to weaponise that, seriously.”
“You did.”
Leo swallowed a laugh. “Okay, okay. Fine. Give me your hand.”
“Huh?”
His brother held out a hand, beckoning, and Mikey obliged him by taking it. Leo instantly turned his hand over, pushing gently along the joints. “That hurt?”
...oh. That’s what was going on. It said a lot that Mikey hadn’t even thought about injury stress; his arms had been behaving themselves for days now. It was possible, he guessed.
On the other hand, he hadn’t painted in weeks. He missed it. And he wanted Leo to like his shell. So he pulled back, deliberately shaking his hands out and wiggling his fingers, smiling wryly as Leo winced. “Promise I’m good. In more ways than one, baby!”
“Yeah, but what if it starts hurting halfway through?” Leo made a face. “Then I’ll be stuck with half a dragon or something and probably, like, the lamer part. There’ll be a dragon’s ass on my shell and everyone’ll make fun of me.”
Mikey sighed, seeing the whining for the thinly disguised concern it was. It was touching, but he could feel the annoyance starting to bubble up. Of all of them, Leo was the one that generally didn’t baby him. He managed a smile. “We do that already.”
“Shh, let me live in denial. Anywhizzle--”
“I wouldn’t have offered if I wasn’t ready,” he said, sharper than he intended. (Probably because that wasn’t entirely true—okay, he hadn’t given any thought to it before this, but after reflection, he was pretty sure--)
“You sure about that?”
Leo said it...lightly. For the most part.
Maybe Mikey just imagined the strain underneath, or maybe it was because he was already riled, but the doubtful look on his brother’s face made him bristle defensively. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What?” Leo paused. “Nothing, I’m just kidding around.”
“You sure about that?”
And this time Leo frowned at Mikey’s mocking tone and shifted gingerly to face him more directly, hugging a pillow to his chest. “Whoa, okay, I honestly didn’t mean anything by it, I’m just… making sure.”
“Why?”
“...you seriously have to ask?”
“Yeah, actually,” Mikey said flatly, fingers tapping a rhythm on the protective sheet. He just wanted to paint. “I’m more than okay. I’m fine, Leo.”
“Annnd you’ve said that before.”
“I—” He paused.
(“Fine! Just fine. You?”
“Fine. Just fine.”)
Again, oh.
(“You’re both liars and I don’t see why you bother.”)
Mikey let a breath out. Sure, okay. He still felt tetchy about this, but Leo had a point. But it took two to have that conversation, and if they were gonna talk about recklessness--
--and oh, for the third time. He got it now, why he was so hair-trigger irritated. There was a ninja damned elephant in the room.
One thing at a time.
“It’s just painting,” Mikey said finally, voice even. “It’s not like I’m using any kind of mystic mojo and I can stop any time it starts to hurt. I can paint something that can be done in pieces, no dragon asses necessary.”
Leo blinked at him, and then mustered up a lopsided smile. “I dunno. What if dragon asses are my thing?”
He could take that offer for what it was; Leo attempting to walk their conversation back from an edge. For a moment, Mikey was tempted. He just wanted to do something nice for his brother and artistic and prove he could still--
Still paint. He could. He had no trouble at dinner, no trouble lugging Dad’s casserole, and now Leo was making him second guess himself when Leo was absolutely the biggest hypocrite in the room for this kinda thing.
“...Angelo?”
And man, now his brother wouldn’t even let him second guess himself in peace! Rude. He leaned forward to rummage through his paints, voice flat. “What.”
“...hey.” Hesitant and soft. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to, like, belittle you, that’s not what this is about.”
“That’s a big word for you.” As soon as he said it—heard the snap of his words leave his mouth—Mikey cringed. Especially as Leo stilled on the bed, then sank down into the pillows again, face blank. Okay, he didn’t deserve that. If Mikey didn’t want to be babied, he shouldn’t be a brat.
So he gave an overly long, dramatic Mermista-style groan and flopped back down on his back next to his brother. “I’m sorry, okay? I’m just… I’m frustrated. It’s been a while. And you were the last person I expected this from!”
“I get it,” Leo said quietly. “You got stuck here on babysitting duty, you’re already feeling left out.”
“That’s not it. Well, not all of it.” He hesitated, stretching his hands up to link behind his head, voice innocent. “Um… I was so caught up in the euphoria of being able to paint your shell that for a minute I lived in a world where mystic backlash didn’t exist…?”
There was a long moment of silence.
And then Mikey grinned a little as Leo raised his head to glare at him. “You did not just apple juice meme at me.”
“I sure did, Leon. Whatcha gonna do about it?”
“Ask you nicely to brain yourself with a pillow,” Leo said grumpily. “I’m keeping count, you know.”
“Oh, I bet.”
They lay there in companionable silence.
“I was looking forward to it, too.” Leo said after a while. “I mean, I even let you put the sheet down. It’s only after that we—look, we both forgot, okay? And then I panicked, because I’m not meant to forget that kind of thing. What if you get hurt because I encouraged you?”
“Hmm.” Okay, that was a fair, kind of dumb but standard Leo reaction. “I kind of get it, except for the part where you’re not responsible for my life choices.”
“Yeah, but I’m enabling them. Raph would—”
“Raph would get exasperated at me for pulling a dumb stunt! This isn’t like… being out fighting bad guys and for some reason your plan means I have to hurt myself painting.”
“Close enough,” Leo said, barely audible.
Mikey shifted up onto his elbows, looking at him in disbelief. “I’m sorry, what? Did I hear that correctly?”
“Mmf.” Leo dropped his face back into the pillow. “Sorry. Forget it, I’m just—”
“Oh no, we are not forgetting it, son.” Mikey sat back up again, folding his arms like a disapproving parent. “Seriously? Are we doing this now?”
“Can we go back to the part where you were going to paint, like, something easy and—”
“Hell no. Leo.” Mikey poked him in the shoulder-- the good one, because he wasn’t a complete jerk. “I don’t remember any point where you had a say in my portal choices. Oh, wait! Yes I do! And your say was dumb and I ignored it—”
Leo blinked at him, baffled. “You-- what? I never—”
“Aha!” Mikey pointed at him triumphantly. “You can’t have it both ways. Either you’re responsible or you’re not, which is it?”
“No, I’m seriously lost,” Leo said blankly. “Putting aside the whole responsibility or feeling guilt or whatever, I get it, we’ll come back to that (maybehopefullynever) but when did you ignore me? I don’t remember saying anything to you about portals.”
For a moment, Mikey was just. Speechless. Because he could infer two things from that, and he hated both of them. One, that Leo had absolutely talked about his portals, just not with him. And two…
“You don’t remember,” he said, irritation shifting into genuine anger. His voice rose with every word. “The warehouse? That cheap action hero line you threw at me while you were hanging like so much netted roadkill? ‘Doesn’t ring a bell?’ Seriously!?”
Recognition dawned on Leo’s face, and he mouthed something silently—a sentence that he recognised because it had been on Mikey’s mind, on and off, that he’d muttered to himself in the bathroom sometimes, that he couldn’t decide whether it was a cool line or something Leo needed to be slapped for, and that he’d decided to maybe just try and let it go until Leo--
--did this. Forgot it.
Like it didn’t matter.
Don’t kill yourself for a corpse.
“Mikey,” Leo said faintly, and a helpless, placating smile twitched at the corners of his mouth for a moment before it faded under Mikey’s glare. “That was just stalling.”
“Was it?”
“Yes!” he snapped. “That wasn’t a-- I thought you knew! Do you really think I’d just encourage you to throw my life away when help was very clearly gonna be on the way?”
Annnd there it was. Because yeah, actually. Leo had put his finger on it precisely without meaning to, and Mikey surged up off the bed. “You’ve done it before, Leo! Once is maybe stalling, but this is a pattern, and—”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa—”
“Don’t whoa whoa whoa me!” Mikey bared his teeth. And his next words were pitched high and dramatic, hand to forehead. “’Don’t kill yourself for a corpse!’ ‘Casey, when I get to the other side, close that door!’ Actually yeah, now that I think about it, if you hadn’t been such a dumbass, I—”
Oh.
Oh, shit, way too far. Leo flinched as if struck, but he stayed staring at Mikey, eyes dark and shoulders hunched. Making himself small like he deserved it, when Mikey had been trying to point out his arms weren’t his responsibility. Good job, going the exact opposite direction.
“...fuck,” he whispered.
In a perfect world, Leo would blackmail him with threats to tell Raph about his swearing at this point. But his big brother said nothing, watching him in deathly silence.
Mikey covered his face. He was angry. He’d crossed a line. And for a long, yawning moment, he held still, hoping Leo would—snap back at him, or shove him off the bed, or be just as much a jerk back, like he’d been with Raph before the invasion, or that time at the pizzeria, or--
It was so quiet.
Oh, pizza supreme. “Leo,” he said, muffled into his hands. “I’m--”
Leo laughed, and Mikey snapped his head up in mix of confusion and dread, because that was not the correct response. But Leo’s giggling was brittle, and while he was lounging on the pillows like he was so entertained, he was staring past Mikey like he wasn’t there. Something curdled in his gut. “Leo…?”
“You can’t have it both ways, mi hermano,” Leo said, and his tone was so absolutely curated smartass that Mikey cringed. “Either I’m responsible or I’m not, which is it?”
“Don’t,” Mikey said tightly, “Throw my words back at me.”
“Why not? Seems to be a common thing today.”
“You know it’s not what I meant!”
“Seems we got a lot of that going around, too.”
Leo’s humour faded—what there was of it—and now he just looked tired. He shifted awkwardly onto his side to face away from Mikey. “Sorry,” he muttered. “You’re gonna have to tell Raph you weren’t the best choice for the whole morale thing. He’ll understand.”
Words chosen to hurt. They lost their bite when delivered so expressionlessly, and Mikey swallowed against a stupid, stupid desire to cry, because now he was angry and frustrated and guilty and a little heartbroken, and dammit, this was so important, he couldn’t let it slide, but he…
...kinda got why Raph and Leo were at each other’s throats all the time.
He wasn’t going to be the same.
“I have three doctorates,” he muttered.
And waited. For Leo to snort, to cut him down and say sure, and I have a medical degree. With stickers. Which makes it better than yours.
But Leo said nothing. After a moment, he hitched the blanket up to wrap over his shell again, and that felt more like a dismissal than anything else.
Mikey curled his hands into fists. Clenched them hard, just because he could. Because it didn’t hurt anymore, not like before. “I have three doctorates,” he repeated flatly, “And I probably should be taking my own advice, huh. You want more words thrown back at you? I’m not yelling at you because I’m mad. I’m—I’m freaking terrified, Leo! Because you nearly died like three times in the last couple weeks, and two of those times you just kind of… leaned right into it, and I don’t—don’t want there to be a fourth time—”
“You think I do?”
Leo’s response was barely audible, but his head had tilted back just enough for Mikey to know he was paying attention. And man, it was getting harder not to just burst into tears, but then Leo would probably either have to shift into comfort mode (and everything would get derailed) or he’d ignore Mikey entirely and that would feel worse. He compromised by flopping back onto the bed, curling up against Leo’s blankets, and found his voice again. He’d say what he had to say first.
“I don’t know,” he said softly. “That’s why, okay? I just—you just seem to keep going for the option that gets you dead lately. You can’t do that to us.”
“I mean, apparently I can,” Leo murmured bitterly. “Seeing as I’ve done it twice.”
He squeezed his eyes shut. “That’s not funny.”
“Yeah, well. I don’t know what you want me to say.”
“...I don’t know what I want you to say, either.” Nothing felt right.
“Okay, here’s a start,” Leo said flatly. “If you think I’m trying to throw my life away—”
“No!”
“If you don’t think that, what exactly are you accusing me of?”
“I’m not! I’m—” His voice cracked, and Mikey bit off another curse under his breath. And then went fuck it and vanished into the cool dark of his shell, so he wouldn’t have to stare at Leo’s back any more. So Leo wouldn’t turn and catch his tears that were falling without his permission because he cried at the drop of a hat and--
“I’m just scared.”
There was a pause, and a creak of the bed. And a long silence.
Mikey sniffled as quietly as he could.
Another creak.
Then Leo’s voice sounded closer, a little more gentle.
“I had a nightmare about you.”
He blinked. That wasn’t what he expected.
“Uh-- I kind of know?” He remembered the details vividly enough-- the warehouse, Sister Krang snapping his neck, way awful. But this was after the warehouse, so--
“Raph told you?” Leo said in confusion. “I mean, I never gave him the details...”
--that wasn’t right. Mikey peered out from his shell to see Leo peering back, and his brother gave him a tiny smile. It didn’t quite reach his eyes, but it was encouraging. “No, I, um… remember how we mind melded at the warehouse? It kind of stuck around during all your fever dreams.”
“Oh.” Leo frowned. “I don’t really remember those.”
“Good,” Mikey said fervently. “Don’t. They’re awful.”
“Heh. Sorry.”
“Not your fault.” He sank back into his shell, but he felt a little better. Leo wasn’t being so cold. He hated it when Leo was cold. “So this was another dream…?”
“...yeah. It was a while ago, right after you showed me your arms that first time. Before… Raph.”
Oh, right. Before everything went to hell. (Again. Hah.)
“I dreamt about you opening the portal,” Leo went on quietly, “And you were trying to save me, and you kind of… just broke apart. Shattered to pieces. And I had to watch that, and the portal closed, and I-- I was stuck and you were—”
Oh.
(If he had a nickel for every time he’d thought oh in the last ten minutes--)
“I didn’t want to be there, Mikey. I promise, I really, really enjoy, you know, being alive. I love you guys! I’m not secretly harbouring a death wish, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
He paused, and when he spoke again, his voice was a lot quieter.
“But that terror—it goes both ways, you know?”
He felt Leo lay hands on his shell and try to lift him into a hug.
Which was… very sweet until reality kicked in and he popped back out in alarm just in time to see his big brother go pale.
“Oh my god, Leo!” He scrambled out fully, wiping at his face before he helped Leo settle back, and he couldn’t help the faintly hysterical giggle. “You really are a dumbass.”
“...I did it on purpose to get you to come out…?” Leo’s voice was wheezy, and he gave Mikey a watery smile.
“Liar.”
“Okay, you got me.” He wilted against the pillows. “But not about the important stuff, okay?”
“Idiot,” Mikey muttered without heat. He patted at Leo’s shoulder. “Need meds?”
“...nah. It’s actually not too bad, I just need a minute.”
“Okay.” He paused. Argument maybe averted, but… he wasn’t done. He could just do this a little less meanly. Especially if Leo was willing to talk to him.
“I do believe you,” he said after a moment, because that was important.
“Okay, good.”
“So… you did the whole heroic cool death wish line because you were scared I was gonna get hurt?”
Leo huffed in amusement, but his tiny smile faded. “Mostly, yeah. I was trying to buy you time. And my first attempt just got you hurt more, so… I went the rage route.”
Oh yeah. Leo asking for permission to treat his wounds. That had gone poorly, to say the least. Mikey smiled weakly. “Well, you picked a winner. I got so mad at you.” He still was, but it felt a little better, to pick at this.
“Yeah, well, the Bubblegum Bitch ran on murder and spite. I figured she’d love to see us screaming at each other. And…”
He hesitated.
“And?” Mikey prompted.
Leo closed his eyes. “I didn’t think I could handle watching you open a portal to... that place. Not with the damage it did the first time. Not ever again because of me. I’m not the only one who nearly died here, y’know.”
Mikey frowned. “I didn’t—”
“Don’t try that with me, Mikey.”
He shut his mouth with a snap. Took a deep breath, because he wasn’t going to yell again, and this was… a softer kind of hurt. He got it. He was starting to get Leo. So he had to continue.
“You think I could handle watching you die because I didn’t open one?” He was proud of how even his voice was. Hah. The doctor was back in session. “You said it yourself, terror goes both ways. Stalling can only go so far. By definition!”
“Okay, at this point we’re gonna end up going in circles,” Leo said dryly. “They’re both valid points, okay? But if you can understand why you risked your life in there, can you get why I’d do the same?”
“...because we’re both idiots?” he muttered.
Leo snorted a faint laugh. And Mikey finally grinned at him, before sobering. Because…
“What about before?”
Leo’s face shuttered blank so fast he almost regretted asking.
Almost.
Especially as the look broke a moment later under a lazy smile, which set his teeth on edge. “You’re gonna have to narrow it down a bit, little bro.”
Okay. If he was gonna be like that.
“Mhm, mm-hmm.” Mikey nodded, shifting enough to sit cross-legged on the bed, and pretended to write into a notebook. “Patient very sensitive on this subject, a little too late on deflecting comment and accompanying I am full of shit smile…”
“Oh, for-- you can’t doctor me, you don’t have your stupid doctor glasses.”
“Patient deflecting more… by making… immersion-breaking jokes—” He broke off and mimed looking over a pair of imaginary glasses at Leo and grinned cheekily through the churning in his gut. Two could play at this game. “All our stuff is packed. You’re gonna have to pretend, bro.”
“I don’t want to,” Leo said flatly, smile gone. “I’m not in the mood for imaginary doctors today. Can’t you just be Mikey?”
“I don’t know, can I?” Mikey retorted, voice still even. Never mind he probably still had drying tear tracks on his face. “Because apparently you can’t talk to Mikey.”
“I can talk to you just fine!”
“Without babying me.”
“I’m not—”
“Or lying. You know exactly what ‘before’ I’m talking about! I mean, how often do you throw yourself through one way portals, anyway?”
“As Dee would say, approximately never, because I can honestly say I’ve never thrown myself through a one way portal in my—”
Mikey slammed his hand down on the bedside stand so hard his paint bottles shook, two of them outright teetering and falling off the edge. Leo flinched back, sentence unfinished, his expression frozen somewhere between jackass and terrified.
“Really?” he hissed. “You’re gonna deflect now by splitting hairs?”
Leo blinked, mouth still hanging open for a moment before he collected himself. “Very professional observation,” he said faintly, voice shaking. “You should write that down in your imaginary notebook! Also, I’m pretty sure therapists aren’t meant to terrify their patients. You could lose your imaginary license and then where would we be?”
Mikey stared at him, face dark and arms folded. “And now you’re deflecting by pissing me off.”
Leo held his stare for maybe three seconds before he broke and rolled away—gingerly, clearly painfully—to face the wall again. “’m sorry. I really just wanna… I don’t know. Get my shell painted. Can we talk about this some other day?”
Mikey sucked in a breath, loudly and obnoxiously, because he wanted Leo to know he was angry. Then he rolled to collect the bottles that had fallen to the floor. The red one hadn’t been closed properly and he winced at the flecks on Draxum’s carpet. Maybe they could claim it was blood. He’d probably be less outraged, all things considered.
He knew as well as Leo there would be no other day. If this didn’t get talked about now, he’d be looking forward to Leo making sure they weren’t in the same room alone together for weeks. He was angry enough he wondered spitefully for a moment if he should beat him to it and ignore his lying ass like a--
...like a wound up little brother who was easily riled by someone who knew exactly which buttons to press. Sure, Leo would feel like shit about it, but Leo would also be relieved. Dodged that therapist bullet, right? Enough time would pass it would be too hard to bring up again.
Until the next time he pulled this stunt. (Leo wasn’t a cat, he didn’t have nine freaking lives--)
“Was there really no other way?” he asked bluntly.
Leo hunched in on himself with a faint hiss, and Mikey sat there behind him, his arms full of paint, and wondered how far to push. He wanted to know. Leo had said there was no death wish, and Mikey believed him about his reasoning in the warehouse. If it wasn’t for how Leo shut him down immediately when he asked more directly, he’d have let this go. There was something he was missing.
He had to push the right way, though. Demanding answers from a traumatised person was, okay, maybe not the best strategy? And Leo was absolutely traumatised, no matter how many shit eating grins he’d thrown over the last few weeks while being half dead. (And then half dead again.) He’d come back out of Mikey’s portal a complete mess and hadn’t talked about it since. Krang Prime had been terrifying before his only target had been his brother.
And Leo had deliberately locked himself in with a murderous alien because…
Hero moves are totally your style.
...because that’s what heroes do?
Bullshit.
“How’s your hand?”
Leo’s question took him by surprise—and hurt besides, with how colourless his tone was. Mikey frowned at him before he looked down at his hands, and—right. Probably losing his temper and hitting furniture wasn’t very, uh, wise. But he flexed his fingers, answering in a subdued voice. “Fine.”
...he had an idea. Take a page out of Leo’s book, lure him in with less threatening subjects. Mikey paused, biting his lip, knowing this could also backfire-- but if it did, it would be less devastating than the direct route. He could try again later.
So he sighed. “And… fine. I’ll let it go.”
“For now, huh.”
“...forever, if you need me to. I just—wanted to understand,” he said, turning away to start stacking the paint bottles neatly on the dresser again. “I know we weren’t there to help, and I’m sorry—”
“Do not apologise for that,” Leo cut in sharply. “You got slammed into free fall and nearly died. What kind of jerk do you think I am?”
“But Raph had to come after us and you were alone.” And that hurt to remember. His hands trembled. “And then you didn’t even warn us. You didn’t even say goodbye. You just jumped straight to—”
“There wasn’t time for anything else,” Leo whispered. “At least, I didn’t think there was. Okay?”
--that was progress. Mikey leaned forward eagerly, ready to push for more detail-- and then hesitated. He’d just said he would let it go.
So he made himself shut up and sit there quietly, hands in his lap, fingers curled inward so he didn’t fidget.
And waited.
“...Yeah, I keep thinking now about other stuff I might have been able to do,” Leo said finally. “And like, it’s all maybes and what ifs and maybe none of it would have worked and maybe some of it would have, but there wasn’t any time, and I’m not-- I mean, it’s easy to come up with stuff after. I still don’t know if I could have made a better choice. Okay? I just did… I did what I had to. It wasn’t some grand gesture or, like, ‘oh no, this is all my fault, I’ll throw my life away to fix it,’ it was-- we’d never get another chance, and I couldn’t live with what would happen if we lost.”
Right, so there was a lot to unpack there.
“You think the invasion is your fault?” he asked cautiously.
“Not… really,” Leo said, and Mikey wished he’d turn around again so he could see his brother’s face. “Like, you know, I get it. The Foot and the Krang are more to blame for this than me, but I was stupid. So there’s fault, and then there’s responsibility. If I hadn’t messed around and lost the key, maybe it wouldn’t have gotten this far. But I guess I don’t know that for sure?”
That sounded very much like someone had already had a go at him about this. His money would be on Donnie. What Mikey wanted to know, though, was whether Leo really meant it or whether he was just rattling off someone else’s argument.
“You also got the key back,” he pointed out, and Leo snorted.
“Yeah,” he said flatly. “At Raph’s expense.”
Mikey winced-- okay yeah, wrong tack to take. There was a lot he could say there about the fact that Raph was also capable of making his own choices, and he already knew Raph would prefer the whole temporary possession and scarred eye and shell over a dead brother. Just as he knew he would never, ever convince Leo of that, because they were all the same in that regard. It was hard, watching someone get hurt trying to protect you.
So hard. Mikey knew.
“Did you…” He paused, swallowed. Curled up on the bed itself, his shell to Leo’s, knees up to his chest. Maybe this was easier. “Did you think you had to make up for it? Is that why?”
He wasn’t sure if Leo’s soft huff of amusement was a good or a bad sign. “I already said. No death wishes.” His tone was more gentle than cutting, so that was hopeful. “Not on the alien ship, not in the warehouse. Just let it go.”
That wasn’t actually an answer to the question. Guilt could make you do so much stupid shit, and Leo still wanted him to drop it, which means there was more to this--
I couldn’t live with what would happen if we lost.
Mikey blinked.
“I need an oh jar,” he muttered.
“...yeah, because that makes sense.”
“Leo,” Mikey said evenly. “What did Casey say to you?”
There was a brief silence, and then Leo responded with genuine confusion. “Okay, that one you really are gonna have to narrow down—”
“About the future he came from.”
And from the way he heard Leo’s breath stutter to a halt, Mikey had his answer.
---------
He waited. Long enough to hear Leo unfreeze, breathing slow with just the faintest hint of shakiness. Long enough that he finally evened out, and Mikey kept still while he did it, not even touching him, back to back. He wanted to-- wanted to kind of turn and latch onto Leo and hug him, but from this angle he’d end up hurting a whole lot more than he’d help, so… in the end, he just gave him space.
Somewhere down the hall, one of Draxum’s clocks chimed.
“Wanna talk about it?”
“Dumb question.”
“Hmm. Yeah, okay, I’ll give you that one. Will you please talk about it?”
“What’s the point?” Leo was barely audible. “It’s over now, not gonna happen. We just need to look after the one person it did happen for.”
“I think Casey’d disagree.”
“Casey has enough on his plate.”
“Well, he’s not here right now anyway. If there’s no point, why don’t you tell me?”
“Already covered that I don’t want to.”
The thing is, just by not telling him, Leo had basically confirmed for Mikey some pretty obvious key factors. This time he deliberately quashed the irritation at the thought of being babied. He got it. He did.
“So,” he said slowly, eventually, “I’m gonna assume you’re trying to protect me. Or us. From horrible, terrible, no good, bad future knowledge. Am I right?”
Leo’s silence was confirmation enough.
Mikey took a deep breath. Okay. He had it now. He hoped. (He also didn’t hope, because it was so bleak, but--)
“You know,” he said quietly, voice deliberately oh so casual, “When someone, like, drops in from some futuuure timeline—add reverb—to change the course of history, it kinda means that whichever future he came from is a lost cause. That much is obvious, you know?”
Silence.
Mikey sat up, glancing down at the huddle that was his brother.
“I know Donnie dies,” he said, and watched Leo flinch. He knew how Donnie died. That part, he would leave out just in case. “Raph woulda died before all of us. April—”
He stopped. The point was made and he was being cruel enough already. “I know I was still there at the end. So were you. Because we were the ones who sent him here.”
“Yeah,” Leo said quietly. “You opened a portal through time. Pretty amazing, bro.”
He smiled at that, a little sadly. “I know, right?”
“Be more amazing if you’d survived doing it.”
He’d figured as much, but hearing it still sent a sliver of nausea through him. And if Leo had known that much, the nightmares about Mikey shattering would just have been icing on the cake. And--
And--
“Everyone died,” he said, eyes wide. “Everyone. Except you.”
The way Leo tried to curl into himself at that could not be healthy for his injuries. This time Mikey did reach out, both hands patting at his brother’s shoulder tentatively before he latched on, trying to discourage the pretzeling. “Lee—”
“I know.”
“It didn’t happen!”
“I know!” Leo snapped. “Because I made sure it couldn’t!”
Mikey let go-- half startled by the outburst, half taken by surprise when Leo threw him off, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. Also not a good idea because Leo had barely managed standing earlier, so what the hell he thought he was doing-- but apparently he was content to sit on the edge of the mattress, using his good arm to keep himself propped up, his entire body curled away from his little brother.
Well. Too bad. Mikey crawled over the bed to sit next to him. And when Leo didn’t move away again, he huffed and wormed his way under that arm, offering a better support. Leo was rigid against him, but he didn’t flinch or try to push him away, so.
Win. Such as it was.
“I get it,” Mikey whispered.
“I didn’t want you to.”
“Yeah… I don’t get that part.”
“Because it’s—” Leo broke off, darting a look at him before he turned away. “It’s all I could think of. I made a big speech about how we could change the future after all, and then when you guys got knocked down, all I could think was that we’d tried so hard, and we still lost, and—and I thought-- I wasn’t thinking. I mean I was, but it was stupid and—”
He hadn’t heard Leo stammer around the point like this in a long time, and Mikey tipped his head against his shoulder, wrapping his arms around Leo’s. “s’not stupid, bro. Like—it’s a high stress situation, y’know? D’you think me or Donnie or Raph were coming up with super logical plans while we were raining into Staten Island? You know how that place drains your smarts away.”
That got a laugh out of Leo, at least, a half hiccupped one, and he shifted a little closer. He didn’t relax; Mikey could feel the tension practically vibrating through him, and he knew what was coming. He could probably cut to the chase now and sum it up for Leo in points so he didn’t have to.
He waited. It was better that way.
“I just...didn’t.” Leo said finally. “Didn’t—want to go through that. You know, I wasn’t being heroic or a martyr or whatever, I was being a coward, okay? Because Casey told me everyone died in the future—everyone—and I thought: if we lose here, I’m gonna have to live that future. You know, twenty years in a war we’re gonna lose so slowly, watching everyone die one by one until I’m the only one left, and I was terrified and I can’t—I can’t, Mikey, if it’s a choice between me and literally everyone else, you can’t ask me to watch everyone die—”
And his voice cracked and Leo shut up, and Mikey carefully shuffled up onto his knees and curled his arms around his brother’s neck and held on. Leo planted his face in the crook of Mikey’s neck, shoulders trembling.
But when he spoke, his voice was small, but very dry. “This is gonna be real painful in about thirty seconds, just warning—”
“Then shut the hell up and get back on the bed, idiot.”
Leo sniffled, voice even tinier. “Yes, Dr Therapist, sir.”
“Good boy.”
“Don’t tell the others?”
“Doctor patient confidentiality.”
“’kay. Good.”
Leo turned away, shuffling back onto the bed to collapse onto the pillows. Mikey hovered, not really sure what to do next. Did he leave him alone? Give him space? He’d normally just drape himself on Leo’s shell, but that wasn’t exactly a good idea, so--
The question was answered for him when Leo waved a hand in his general direction, looking for a limb to grab, and Mikey helpfully gave him an arm-- and was yanked down beside his brother who curled around him like he was a teddy bear, hiding his face again. Mikey wheezed, a faint mix of relief and amusement. “Oh, okay, it’s gonna be like this—”
“Shh,” Leo said, muffled and sodden-sounding. “Therapy’s over.”
The face against his neck was wet. Mikey held still for a moment, swallowing against his own tears, and then gave a small sigh, putting a hand on Leo’s head.
“Yeah,” he said softly. “I guess it is.”
---------
They lay there for a while. Mikey was perfectly content to be used as a teddy bear and kept his mouth shut, letting Leo get it out of his system, running his thumb over the ridges of the blue mask as his brother shook apart so quietly. As if he were ashamed of letting go. Or maybe it was just the fact that he was crying on his little brother. Mikey supposed that was breaking some kind of sibling hierarchy or some shit. Whatever.
He hadn’t really meant for the afternoon to go this way—it was kind of the opposite of a morale boost—but if this was the weight that his brother had been carrying around, better to deal with it now. Especially when nobody else was around to overhear.
(...he wasn’t really sure the others shouldn’t know about this. But unless it became an issue, for now, he’d do as Leo asked.)
“You’re not a coward, you know,” he said, much later. He doubted it was hours. He’d only heard Barry’s clock once. But Leo had stopped his ninja stealth crying into the crook of Mikey’s neck, so it was time.
“Mmm, ‘kay.”
“Don’t mmm ’kay me.” Mikey poked him. “I’m serious. I mean, what do you think a hero’s motivations are, anyway? They’re not doing it for the sake of looking all fancy for the camera. Or if they are, they’re not really a hero. They’re like-- that guy from Megamind, what’shisface, the Nice Guy—”
“Hal Stewart.”
“Exactly. And they don’t run around thinking, like—” He let go of Leo for a moment to air quote, even though Leo hadn’t resurfaced, not really. “’Egads, what is the most noble thing I can do at this exact point in time?’ Real heroes aren’t like… comic book heroes.”
Leo huffed a little against him. “You’re lucky I’m emotionally vulnerable right now or I’d have to throw hands.”
Mikey grinned. There he was. “Better keep you emotionally vulnerable then.”
“A supervillain move if I ever heard one.”
“That’s me, baby! I’m so lucky I have all these moral brothers to guide me to the side of the light.”
“Plus Donnie.”
“Oh yeah, plus that guy. I guess.”
This time, the huff sounded more like a laugh. Mikey snuggled in closer, gave him a moment to relax, and then made his next point, as softly as he could.
“Why do you think Raph protected you?”
He felt the jolt go through Leo at that—felt a little guilty, it was kind of an ambush—but his brother was only rigid against him for a moment before relaxing again by degrees, and Mikey was relieved. Leo’s brain was online. And when Leo answered, he sounded more confused than upset.
“Because he’s a big brother? Because he saw me screw up and he didn’t want me getting hurt?”
“Mhm, mhm. Scared for you, right? Would rather take the fall than watch you get skewered?”
“...yeah.”
Oh, the guilt laden into that word. He couldn’t do much about that, except maybe push him and Raph together to talk it out at some point. “I see. So Raph’s a coward?”
“Wait, what?” Leo pulled back to stare at him in affront, eyes swollen and mask damp and not bothering to hide it in the least. “Raph’s the bravest one here, why would you—”
“My, my. Would you look at those double standards.” Mikey tsked at him, and waited for the penny to drop. And Leo was just as smart as Donnie, in his own way; it took him a bare second to frown and lean back, squinting at him, mouth half open like he was trying and failing to come up with an argument. “It’s not cowardly to protect the people you care about. It’s, like, the opposite. You did it in a really reckless way and yeah, maybe there was a better way, but if anyone tries to accuse you of cowardice, I’m gonna throw hands. That includes you, bee tee dubs.”
Leo blinked, and Mikey could practically see the calculation flashing across his expression. He wasn’t surprised when Leo all-out pouted at him. “Oh, I see how it is. Picking on an injured turtle when he’s down.”
Mikey gave him a flat look that said I know what you’re doing.
Leo’s pout turned into a sheepish smile. “Okay, okay,” he said. “I’ll keep any such thoughts of cowardice to myself then, wallow in them when your back is turned—”
Mikey swatted at him with a glare. “You won’t think them at all! Leonardo—” And paused as Leo’s smile sharpened into a grin, his reddened eyes bright with genuine humour. “Ohhh, someone’s feeling better! Good.” He smiled sweetly back, then pushed Leo’s face away from him with a hand. “But for serious, you might be kinda dumb sometimes, but you are like. The bravest coolest brother—”
“Mmm, I still think Raph is the bravest. I humbly accept coolest, though.”
“I’ll allow it.” He watched Leo another moment, then pulled away to scramble carefully over him for the bedside table, reasonably sure the crisis was over. “You still up to painting?”
There was a pause. Leo’s face screwed up hesitantly. “...you sure? I mean, not because of your hands, but—”
“We still got time.” He flipped a paintbrush up and deftly spun it between his fingers, giving Leo a pointed look. “And I hate not finishing an art piece once I start.”
“Have we started, though?” Leo said mildly. But he was already obediently shuffling back onto his stomach, propping the pillows up beneath his elbows.
“Therapy is art.”
“I’m not sure that’s correct.”
“I’m the one with the doctorates, shush now.”
“But you’re—”
“Uh-buh-buh-buh—” Mikey settled by Leo’s side, bonking his head gently with his brush. And time for one last ambush question. “Leo. If we’d still been up there with you at the end, do you think it might have gone differently?”
To his great relief, Leo didn’t even flinch at that one—he merely tilted his head, humming thoughtfully. Mikey gave him time, fishing through his bottles until he could find the right colours to make the mix he wanted.
If he was holding his breath a little, well… that wasn’t important. Turtles could hold their breath for a very long time.
“Hard to say, Leo said softly. “But I’d like to think so. I mean, I could barely get him through the portal on my own. But the four of us definitely had him off balance for a while there, right? If we were all still up there… I mean. Let’s face it. We’re so much stronger together.”
Mikey sighed with relief. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe Leo about the death wish thing, but hearing it summed up like that made him feel a lot better. Especially when Leo frowned and twisted to catch his eye. “You better not feel guilty about that part, by the way.”
“Guilty? Nah.” He did a little, but Mikey also knew they’d done their best. “Bad that you got left on your own, yeah. We’re a team! It was hard...you know.” He smiled a little weakly. “Not being up there with you.”
“It was hard watching you fall.” Leo relaxed, letting his head drop onto the pillows. “Don’t tell him, but I was so glad when Raph got on the line, even if he was mad at me. It meant you guys had all got down safely.”
“He wasn’t mad,” Mikey pointed out.
“...I know. Bad choice of words.” Leo took a breath, sighed it out, sounding sleepy. “Scared.”
“Scary day.”
“Tell me about it. Wait, on second thought, don’t.” Leo waved a hand at him, not looking up. “Better idea. Tell me what you’re gonna paint instead.”
Yeah, time to change subject. Mikey hummed thoughtfully at him, leaning down off the bed to collect his tray. “I’m thinking… flowers.”
“Flowers, huh.”
“Yeah.” He traced dark edges of Leo’s repaired shell with the very tip of his brush, watching his brother carefully to see if it bothered him. When Leo didn’t move, he shifted back to mix paints. “They’ll be great at masking the damage, and if I have to stop for any reason, it won’t look weird. I’m thinking, hmm… marigolds, petunias… what’s a good red flower that isn’t a rose…”
Was that too pointed a comment? Probably. He grinned, counting the seconds until Leo lifted his head again, shifting to squint at him with suspicion.
“...red, orange, and purple?”
“Yeah,” he said innocently. “Great colour combo, don’t you think?”
“I feel you’re trying to tell me something.”
“Of course I am, dummy.” Mikey smiled at him. The sweetest, most sunshine smile he had at his disposal. “It’s a reminder that we’ve always got your back, no matter what.”
Leo stared back at him with an expression that was—just for a moment, probably against his will—fragile.
Then he turned sharply back away to stare at the wall, giving a snort. “More like you’re always on my back, you mush-dispenser.”
Mikey bit back his laugh at that. Leo could have that one; let him save some face, just this once. “It’s not too late for a dragon’s ass, you know.”
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“Barry could be riding on it!”
“Mikey—”
“And throwing you off it to your doom—”
“Oh my god, that’s low, you monster—”
“Actually I think it’s high, it wouldn’t be much of a doom otherwise, c’mon, Leo, keep up.”
“I’m gonna duct tape you inside your shell and play you like bongos for a week straight.”
“Looking forward to it! I’ll mark my calendar!” But Leo was shaking with laughter now. Mikey tapped the end of the brush on his shell in warning, and Leo obligingly tried to keep still, switching to a yawn instead. “I would never, don’t worry. Tired?”
“A little.”
“Then sleep. I’ll be here. I’ll wake you when it’s done.”
“...kay.” Leo snuggled into the pillows without arguing, and his next words were heavily muffled and more a tired mumble than anything else. “Lvvyou.”
Mikey paused. Then smiled a little, putting a hand on his shell for a moment. “Lvvyou too, bro.”
“Oh, shush.”
He cackled at that, but said nothing, listening to Leo’s breaths even out.
He knew Leo pretty well—enough to wonder how much Leo still hadn’t told him, diverting with jokes and sassy comments about wallowing in cowardice. But this was a start. And a relief. If nothing else, Leo had been genuine about his motivations, both at the warehouse and at the portal. Terror and love, nothing more, nothing less. Mikey flexed his hands out, testing them one last time, looking at the fading welts still criss-crossing up his arms.
He could relate.

Fanfic Writers: Director’s Cut
*twirls you around!!* HANNAHHH!!! 💜💜
Oh, man, so, as I made sure to point out in the Author’s Notes, this fic was inspired by This Art by my Buddy soggytommy on twt:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My writer brain was active at the time so I sat down and wrote a couple hundred words and DMed my buddy the wip, to which they responded by giving me more context about the scene: fighting the PDs, Leo accidentally blows something up, Mikey suffers the consequences.
So, the actual bts is that I Had been considering making this full angst with comfort at the end, but y’know!! I’m a sucker for levity during serious situations (which is probably why Mikey’s my fave, lol), so I tried to strike a balance there with Mikey kinda breaking the tension at multiple points, even with himself during the immediate aftermath of the explosion.
Also, I enjoy echoing/calling back to lines in my fics! The most obvious recurring one in this fic is the theme of Promises (Mikey promising he’ll be okay, Leo promising to tell him the end of the book, Mikey promising to tell someone immediately next time he gets badly injured). Don and Leo both tell each other at different points that they’ve done Enough. In Mikey’s POV, there’s Orders, with Mikey immediately following Leo’s command to Run and then later listening when he tells him to sleep. There’s also the Donnie SAINW trauma I slipped in, with both Leo and Mikey noticing he doesn’t react well upon seeing Mikey with arm injuries. Probably a few more but these are the clearest ones off the top of my head, lol!
Oh, and here are some of my favorite lines:
- “Aw, du’...” Mikey glares up at him. “Cli’ ‘angr.” << *points at my bestie* turtle who wants immediate gratification instead of suspense and probably loves to binge stories in one sitting
- A bookmark sticks out of it, tasseled with yarn and made up of layered and colorful construction paper and filled with childhood memories. A frail thing (a treasured gift) that has somehow survived all these years and unintentional moves. << *points again* baby Mikey made that :3
- The stabby thing needs to stay in his arm or else he’s off to join the Big Turtle in the Sky. << Personally the funniest joke I had Mikey think to himself next to the This Mission Blows line
- I know it’s Bad, he tells his brain as the pain whites out his vision. Stop yelling at me. I know. << *Mario falling in lava owowowow noise* if I ever actually draw this scene I apologize in advance
- Leo being up meant that they could stay up late, so Donnie would tinker or read and Raph would hog the Gameboy so Mikey would be resigned to reading comics. Sometimes, he’d slip under Leo’s blanket tent and try to read with him, asking him questions about the heroes and the villains and the story. << I wrote this Because of your (yes, You, Hannah) comment on Ch1 which made me think about Leo reading to his bros. Also, I totally drew a thing inspired by this because it’s The Most Precious Thing
- “Nope!” Mikey forces a leg to kick out of his blanket, missing Leo by a mile but sending the message loud and clear. “Y’know what? No blame game! No one wins in the blame game.” << *points for one last time* things I’ve actually done as a kid tucked in bed and a sibling says something stupid so I kicked out to let them know so
- And, he finally gets a hug from his dad, a carefully gentle thing from Splinter that he soaks in like the rays of the sun. << Actual Favorite Line that I will feel proud of til the end of time and also maybe draw at some point cuz Splinter Hug

Meanwile in "Everything was fine since the beggining and the turtles grew up with to dads" Dimension.
Mikey was trying to make a new colorful art piece for his room the castle, but soon he found that his beautiful new hair, a by-product of his new mystical powers, was determined to make the task an absolute absolute pain in the ass, and, of course, it itched.
"Urrhhg!! Stupit mystic hair! Why could't the side effects of mystic be cool color eyes or awsome cutie marks in your cheeks! I can't see anything!"
The frustrated little turtle searched through his materials and took out a pair of scissors, which he often used for his handicrafts, and held them to his head, ready to put an end to his suffering when out of nowhere, accompanied by a clatter, the entrance to his room opened wide.
"Stop it right now, young man!!" his goat daddy exclaimed. "and get those abominations far from your head this instant!"
" but they are annoying when I want to draw and they itch my face! - the little orange turtle replied.
With no time to lose, walking steadily beside his son and conjuring up multiple bands of who gives a shit, the baron didn't say a single word, he took the little turtle's locks and in very intricate and artistic ways began to braid them into a hairstyle that even the nobles of Versailles would call exaggerated.
"There, problem solved," said the baron, full of pride for his work.
"... I gess" declared Michelangelo, looking at himself in the mirror.
And so, with a smile on his face, the baron alchemist left the room, happy that his son's hair follicles lived happily for another day.
EXTRA.
Bella: hey mikey, ready to go?
Mikey: yes, please.
Bella: great! you'll love the hair district, I know a place where they do the best mohawks!.

Later that day Baron Draxxum would find himself slumped at the entrance of his castle, as he had a heart attack.

ROTTMNT x Reader (Tattoos)
Warning: needles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your body was marked with beautiful ink. The pain of the needle being non-exisitant to you anymore.
You decided to get another tattoo this morning, just some spikey lines forming a heart in your stomach. It was cute, but intimidating, and made you feel nice.
The boys didn't know you had any tattoos, always coming to the lair with a thick black turtleneck over your skin. It wasn't like you were embarrassed of them, but you were scared of what they would think. Afterall, what if they saw you as some dilencuent? Or even worse, a need of attention whore? You didn't want that.
But this day, you felt brave, and you decided on wearing a small crop top with an opening around your chest, revealing your cleavege, part of your boobies and the ink splattered around your skin. To top it all of, some loose low-waisted jeans and red converse, a cap laying loosly on your head and your long/short locks brushing down your shoulders, tickling.
You walked down the sewers with a confident smile, while you held some bags full of groceries on your tattooed hands. Some rings decorating your fingers.
It was a nice weather outside, and down the man-hole, as warm wind made your hair flow.
When you reached the big metal door of the lair, you tapped the password quickly and entered.
You found the boys in their respective places, Mikey playing videogames, Raph lifting some weights, Leo playing with his dick skateboard, and Donnie was probably on his lab, working on a new project, you persumed, seeing that he was nowhere around.
"Guys! I brought snacks!" you cheered with your pretty lips painted in a pitch black tone, making the bots turn around (even Donnie poked his head out of his lab), but soon their eyes widened.
You laughed nervously, letting the bags fall to the ground and crossing your arms around your chest.
"What?"
Mikey soon came rushing to you, sparkly eyes and all.
"O M G!! THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL!" He exclaimed, traicing his rough finger tips down the sword that was drawn on your collarbone.
"A true piece of art!"
You patted his head slowly and chuckled.
"Thanks Mike!"
Raph's weights almost crushed him as he saw your body, the pretty ink making his eyes sparkle.
"They are so cool, (Y/N/N)! When did you get them?" He asked, admiring your skin.
"A couple of months ago, but this, is new" you pointed at the heart on your belly.
Leo approached next, his arms crossed and a playful smile on his lips.
"Damn, girl, you look good!"
You blushed bashfully, and scratched your neck.
"Thanks! I guess..."
Donnie then walked by, his googles on, like trying to scan you.
"This must have hurted, specially the snakes on your ribs and that-um-devil? on your collarbone, it's really near your neck! Does this new one itch? It's red."
You patted his shoulder and smiled.
"It's supposed to be a little irritated, it's rare that it doesn't have an ink sack tho, but no, it doesn't hurt at all, neither did the other ones. My first tattoo did hurt, the flower on my hand, like hell." you explained, and soon the began bombarding you with questions, meanings of the tattoos, reasons why you chose to do them, and why there, it was quite overwhelming.
"But their so cute! Maybe i can be inspired by one of the designs! Hey, maybe i could draw something and maybe, if you like it, you could paint it on your skin too! Omgsh what if i became a tatto artist? That would be so cool!" Mikey said excitedly, giving you a twril to see your back tattoos as well.
"That would be sweet, Mike, i'm sure you'll become a great tattoo artist one day"
Donnie rolled his eyes slightly.
"I know you can't handle needles, Mikey"
"SHUT UP!"
A/n: Hey! Mar here, i wanted to clarify that having tattoos doesn't make you a delinquent or a needy bitch/whore. Hope you don't take it in a bad way. Tattoos are awesome, and they are pretty!

“Good. Again!”
You wanted to groan as you moved through the kata for what felt like the hundredth time tonight. When you had asked your boyfriend to train with you, you hadn’t expected him to take it so seriously. You weren’t trying to be a ninja, just wanted to tone some muscle. You could feel your thighs begin to shake, and your arms felt like lead. In your mind, you were calling the handsome turtle every name in the book, inventing a few new ones. However, voicing your complaints would feel cowardly, and you refused to show Leo any weakness.
Leo watched you carefully. Your determined grimace almost made him break from his training face. You were absolutely adorable. He knew you were hating every second of this. As leader, it was his job to draw out every drop of greatness from his team. He knew how to push them beyond their perceived limits, like he was pushing you now. It was just a bonus for him that you were gleaming with sweat in a sports bra and tiny yoga shorts. Damn delicious.
He finally decided that you had been tormented enough for this session and threw a bottle of water to you. You barely caught it, your arms heavy with exhaustion. Perhaps he went too far?
“Hey, you okay?”
Your head whipped up quickly, your smile a little too bright, “Psh, I’m great. Never better.”
He raised a brow ridge. Liar. He had to give you credit for pure stubbornness. Passing you a towel to wipe off, he sat down beside you at the edge of the mat. He admired the pink flush on your face as he removed the wrappings from his calloused hands. A drop of sweat that you missed rolled down your throat, across your chest, and disappeared into your cleavage. He licked his lips.
“Listen, you did really good for your first time. Better than any of us did on our first training session.”
“Leo, you all were children. That’s hardly a compliment.”
You stretched your arms high and arched your back. Leo couldn’t help but zero in on how the move lifted your breasts. He bit his lip as an idea crossed his mind.
“Still, I was hard on you. Let me make it up with a massage?”
He was itching to get his hands on your sweat-slicked skin. His Sensei was meditating in his room, Donnie was working in his lab, and Raph and Mikey were out doing who knows what. He was confident no one would interrupt. Without giving you time to answer, he started rubbing your damp shoulders and neck, digging at the knotted muscles with his thumbs. Your head fell forward with a grateful sigh. Leo moved around behind you, caging you in with his powerful thighs. He slowly worked his way down your spine, pressing soft open mouth kisses to your shoulders and upper back. Once he reached your low back, you couldn’t help the moan that slipped out. You planted your hands on his knees and squeezed. Leaning into his plastron, you rolled your head back onto his shoulder. He kissed your sweaty temple, and tried to ignore the stirring in his loins. You turned your head slightly to kiss along his jaw and damn that stirring was getting harder to ignore. When you turned halfway, pulling his face down to yours, he indulged himself with a long, languid kiss. Your hand slid up his thigh, higher and higher, until the object of your desire was firm in your grasp. Leonardo churred low but pulled back with an admonishing look.
“No, I’m supposed to be making you feel good.”
You smiled like the cat that ate the canary. Sliding off the edge of the training mat, you stood between his knees and worked to undo the fastening of his pants. Leo was struggling to decide whether it was better to give or to receive, while you tugged his pants open and lifted his member from its confines. Once you bent over his hard length, and he felt your hot breath teasing his tip, he decided that giving could wait a bit. Leaning back on his elbows, he widened his legs for you, and settled in to watch.
Holding his gaze, you flattened your tongue against the base of his cock and licked a wet stripe straight up. He churred again as you dipped your mouth over just the tip, swirling your tongue and sucking lightly. Curling your hand tightly around the base, you bobbed your head, taking him deeper with each pass. It was all you could do to relax your throat, to avoid gagging on his ample size.
“Ah fuck,” he groaned, sliding a hand around the back of your head, gently guiding you to take more. He tried to keep his hips still, but couldn’t stop the occasional buck. The hot, moist cavern of your mouth was about to be his undoing. The swipe of your tongue all around the head of his cock, the way you interspersed strong sucking with rapid bobbing, he was quickly losing his tight control.
“Hey sweetheart, I’m about to go,” he warned with a strained voice.
You looked up into his gorgeous blue eyes, looking so wanton with your plush lips wrapped so tightly around him, that he grasped your hair and held you still while he fucked your pretty mouth. You nearly choked on the first spurt of cum, but tried to swallow as much as you could. Leo’s groans were like music to your ears, knowing you could draw such noise from Mr. Total Control was an aphrodisiac in itself. Grabbing the towel he had given you earlier, you began to wipe off the cum that had spilled from your lips and dripped down your chin and neck. When you faced your lover again, he was frozen in place, hands on the pants that were yet unfastened, staring behind you. You slowly turned your head, scared of what you might find.
Donnie was standing, not even three feet away, with an open laptop. “Now that you have a moment, I need to go over-“
“Donnie.”
“the schematics of the-“
“DONNIE!”
The genius paused and pushed his glasses higher on his snout in mild annoyance. “What?”
A sweaty towel to the face was his answer.

Growing up it was undeniable the infatuation Michael’s younger sister Emmeline (Emmy) had for one of his best friends, Luke Hemmings. She was shy on principle but when Luke was around it increased by tenfold. She stammered a lot and blushed like crazy, which resulted in Michael teasing her about it in secret but never in front of his friends, even though they knew.
Emmy was sweet, innocent and so short compared to the four of them they graced her with the nickname of Pipsqueak, or Pip for short. When the band left to tour for the first time, Emmy missed her brother like crazy. Being so close to Michael for so long and watching him be halfway across the world was hard.
Both of them had grown up without the other, and it took a toll on Michael as well as Emmy because he adored his little sister and facetimed as much as he could or called her on the phone. He’d relay the boys’ greetings to her until all three of them appeared in the shot acting like the goofballs that they were.
Emmy tried to keep her gaze on all of them but she always ended up staring at Luke. More often than not he’d be staring at her as well, his crystal blue eyes zeroed in on her until Calum did something completely ridiculous thus snapping Luke out of his trance. She loved seeing the ghost of his infectious smile appear, and she adored his shyness because she related to it. And then she’d be right back laughing with her brother and his best friends while they did wacky stuff to make her smile.
When the band went on their hiatus, they still didn’t come home so Emmy flew out to them after Michael informed her they’d been writing again. She’d finished school and pursued a job in childcare.
It’s been almost three years since they went in the shadows but Michael promised something was in the works. At the end of the summer she’d be joining them to Bali as well which she was really excited about.
Walking through the terminal she looked around for a sign of her brother’s artfully colored hair over the crowd of average height people and she spotted him.
“Mikey!” she squeals running steadfast to her brother.
“Ems!” he shouts in the same demeanor, his arms open wide and she lunges into them. He lifts her up, her feet dangling in the air as the siblings hug after so long.
“You changed your hair,” they say at the same time when he released her then they laughed.
He went back to his natural blonde and she dyed hers a pretty dark brown.
“I like it, dark suits you,” he comments picking up a strand in between his fingers.
“Thanks,” she smiles then glances around. “Where’s Crystal?”
“Cleaning,” he chuckles, “she wanted the house to be perfect for you when you arrived. I told her it’s just you but she wouldn’t listen.”
Emmy pouts, she hates when people go over the top for her, it’s not necessary and completely not worth the trouble.
“She didn’t—“
“I know,” Michael closes his eyes sighing. “Come on, people are beginning to notice me.”
“My brother the rock star,” Emmy smiles proudly but follows him as he takes her bags. The rest will be delivered to his house, she’s staying with him and Crystal for the summer and traveling to Bali with them and the boys.
“Other rock stars are excited to see you, too,” Michael mentions once they’re buckled in his car.
“I’m excited to see them, too,” Emmy smiles shaking her leg as if to showcase her anticipation. One in particular.
“If Luke seems a bit . . . standoffish, it’s not you. All right?”
“Because of what happened with . . . her?” Emmy makes a face.
Michael puffs his cheeks and blows the air out in exasperation. “Yeah. He’s been staying with Ashton. He’s still trying to bounce back to himself. Don’t say anything.”
“You know I won’t.”
“I know, you’re a good egg,” he reaches over and pinches her cheek, “Pipsqueak.”
•••••
Crystal is hugging Emmy before she’s even halfway through the door, Michael shuffling past two of his favorite people to bring in the luggage. Crystal is gushing over Emmy’s hair and telling her about the new sheets she got for her room because ‘you aren’t just a guest so it should be your room.’
“I’m so glad you’re here, the guys are coming over for a little welcome party for you. So if you need to take a nap or shower, please do, okay?”
“Okay, thanks Crys,” Emmy finally gets a few words in. She loves Crystal’s bubbly personality and it makes her a little more extroverted.
After her nap, Emmy heads downstairs and into the kitchen where she hears all the voices. When she enters, Ashton shouts “Pipsqueak!” and she’s bombarded with two tall men hugging and ruffling her hair.
“You haven’t grown at all, Pip,” Calum grins patting her head.
“Shut up,” she grumbles nudging his hand away but she’s laughing along with them. “You guys just have a weird genome make-up.”
“All right fancy pants,” Ashton chuckles. “Want a drink? We’re going out for the best steak in your honor but we need a drink beforehand.”
“Is that so?” she raises her eyebrows but follows them. She notices Luke standing off in the corner, his own mixed drink in his hand. Emmy falters when she sees him.
It’s been about 3 years and he’s grown. In many senses of the word. For one, he’s the tallest of the guys, even slouched over, his hair is a bit longer with hints of curls on the ends and he’s got a nice amount of facial hair. He’s still devastatingly handsome but Emmy can see the toll the breakup has had on him.
His eyes are bloodshot with dark circles underneath them, his cheeks are a little sunken in and his whole body language is screaming ‘despair.’ Emmy’s always been able to read the emotions off of others and it broke her heart to see Luke in this state. It made her uneasy but remembered what her brother said and forced herself not to draw attention to him but she gave him a small smile.
So instead, she pulled her attention back to Calum and Ashton who were fighting over what kind of drink Emmy would want.
“If you guys came home for my legal birthday you’d know I love Malibu and pineapple juice,” she teases.
Calum and Ashton look at each other then nod. “We’re ignoring that jab, Pip,” Ashton says, “but I’ll make that drink.”
From the corner of her eye, Luke’s watching the whole scene before him. She’s not hurt in the slightest from his lack of interaction, she can understand where he’s coming from. When he’s ready, he’ll make his presence known.
Hopefully.
After their cocktails are finished they head out to the restaurant. Luke somehow has a hat and sunglasses on as they enter the building. Clearly he doesn’t want his photo taken but the paparazzi are around and will take snapshots of what they want.
Emmy expected this, she prepared herself for the moment when the time came. But prepping your mind and actually experiencing it are two very, very different things. Instinctively, she went to Michael who tucked her under his arm immediately ushering her and Crystal past the photographers.
“I’d say you get used to it, but you really don’t,” Michael sighs.
“It’s fine,” Emmy shakes her head. But inside she was having a slight panic attack. How did they do this day after day? People calling your name and shoving a camera in your face?
Luke removed his hat and sunglasses following the group to the table in the private room upstairs. He hasn’t seen Emmy in a long time, but she’s still cute and tiny as ever. He wanted to say hi, he really did. He wanted to give her a hug and call her by the nickname they created for her, he really did.
But his wounds are still bleeding fresh and he doesn’t want to drop his toxicity on her who has always been her own little ball of light. He listened to the conversation, hummed or did a half smile at all the right parts. But lyrics and piano notes filled his head. He was itching to write but whatever he wrote always came out as garbage.
When dinner was over, they exited the restaurant but the photographers increased with some fans screaming. They all huddled together, with Luke bringing up the caboose and also right behind Emmy. He towered over her, and it’s because of that he noticed she was about to fall when he steadied her back on her feet. Some fans would do anything for a picture.
“Keep walking, Pip,” he told her still holding onto her waist to make sure she didn’t almost fall again.
Her head snapped to the side when the nickname slipped from his lips. She smiles up at him and without even thinking, Luke smiled back. Not a half smile but an actual smile. His long fingers hung lightly on her waist as he ushered her towards the car. He didn’t let go until she was safely in her seat, she flashes him another smile.
For the whole ride back to her brother’s house, Emmy’s skin still burned where Luke’s hands grabbed onto her. She’d thought after all these years, of her growing up, her crush on Luke had disappeared. But then he smiled at her and she was right back to where she started.
•••••
Luke has been in sort of a hazy daze since his horrendous break-up, he couldn’t sleep at his home so he crashed at Ashton’s a lot. Ashton kept him in check by watching his alcohol consumption and amount of weed he smoked, making sure it was kept at a minimal rather than a mess he did not want to clean up.
Ashton offered words of advice and encouragement but the youngest brother of his was like a shell, empty and void of color. When he looked at Luke, he paled in comparison to who he truly was. His exuberant color faded as soon as things began to go bad with Lea, they didn’t even get to be bad because it went straight to worse.
When they’d go out on the town it always ended with her stalking off with attitude and Luke would be his sweetest self, trying to figure out what was wrong. Then she’d get mad that he didn’t already know and they’d fight all the way back to his home, making the car ride extremely uncomfortable for the driver.
Then it went from worse to catastrophic at the snap of a finger, and it was at the fingers of Lea. She spit harsh words at him, degrading words, words that told him he was of no value and she finished her tirade with knocking over a potted plant and throwing a vase full of (now dead) flowers against the wall.
She threatened to leave him, and at that point Luke had no idea what the hell to do anymore so he let her. That caused another infamous Lea scene as she threw her things into a suitcase all while cursing his name and their relationship as she did so. Before she left in a tornado of cruelty, she yanked the chain around her neck that held Luke’s favorite ring he gave her and chucked it at him.
It hit his chest lightly, falling intricately and ironically into a figure eight at his feet. The door slammed and she was gone. And Luke was hollow.
It was nearing midnight when Ashton’s phone rang, Calum was over and they exchanged a look of worry when Luke’s face appeared on the screen. They knew it was something bad.
“Luke--?” Ashton answered right away but stopped when he tried to listen to his dear friend utterly breaking down. He could only get out a few choice words: left . . . Lea . . . gone . . . forever . . . necklace . . . fucking crazy . . .
Ashton did his best to soothe him over the phone all while motioning for Cal to call Michael and he picked up his keys.
He told Luke to breathe. He told Luke to count to ten and try breathing again. He told Luke he and Calum and Michael were on their way. He told Luke to hold on.
It was a disaster zone when they arrived. The big ugly potted plant (that Lea insisted on buying) was turned over on the floor, dirt spread everywhere. Broken glass scattered the floor as well, along with water and dead flowers and Luke was in the midst of destruction with his elbows on his knees and his face buried in his hands.
“Shit,” Ashton hissed running to him immediately. Calum called Michael again this time in a panic, his eyes wide at one of his best friends, his brother, coming completely unraveled in Ashton’s arms.
“Luke, Luke, listen to me, you can’t stay on the floor,” Ashton said trying to pry his fingers from his face. “Let’s go outside, yeah? You need fresh air.”
After some more coaxing, Luke finally heaved himself off the floor with the help of Ashton just as Michael came through the door. His eyes widened at what he saw, Ashton nodded to the mess then to them before ushering Luke out in the back. His hold on the younger boy’s shoulders were strong and present, ready and able to catch him if he fell.
Calum and Michael got to work right away cleaning up the mess Lea left behind. Michael picked up the necklace setting it on the countertop. They knew the mess was more than broken glass and spilled dirt, the mess was inside Luke because she worked her way in his psyche. The mess was far from being treated.
•••••
Luke had completely forgotten that Emmy would be coming to stay with Michael and Crystal, but he forgets things easily these days. He’s still in a fog but at least he’s not getting drunk and high every night now.
He made sure to watch his intake and stayed clear of weed, which the boys also cleared their stash because Luke was far more important than a momentary buzz. So when he arrived at Michael’s he was confused as to why they hadn’t left yet.
“Emmy’s still napping from her flight,” Crystal explained taking a sip from her pink wine.
As Luke’s face remained a state of confusion, four pairs of eyes stared at him helplessly.
“Remember, Ems is staying with us for the summer?” Michael asks slowly.
Not wanting to look like he was still shattered, Luke acted like he remembered.
“Oh, right I knew that. Forgot she got in today, that’s all,” he shrugged.
The relaxed exhale from them all eased him a bit, but he still felt like an idiot so he poured himself a glass of whatever was in front of him.
He shuffled to the corner, which has become his safe place lately. He’s still present with his company but he doesn’t have to keep talking and he’s thankful they gave him the space he needed. He didn’t really want to go out tonight, he wanted to go back home and sleep.
“Pipsqueak!” Ashton shouts very loudly it almost caused Luke to drop his glass.
When he looked up he saw Ashton and Calum hugging Emmy, he couldn’t see her though, Ash and Cal were like walls blocking his view. When they finally released her, Luke couldn’t help but stare.
The sweet girl he’d known growing up wasn’t present anymore. She was still tiny so her nickname they came up with still fit. Instead of her light blond hair like Michael’s, he was looking at a dark brunette and it really brought out her eyes which were a striking deep blue.
While Ashton chattered about what type of drink she’d like, Luke kept his eyes on them and Emmy kept glancing his way. He sucked in a breath ready to say a hello but she never brought him into the group.
At first he was hurt, was he really not that important for her to acknowledge him? Then when he caught her eye again she gave him a kind smile that was missed by everyone else but him. He exhaled gratefully, that greeting was enough.
When they were leaving the restaurant Luke cursed to himself in his head at the photographers that seemed to multiply, along with some fans. He ended up in the back by Emmy and he towered over her completely. Was she always that small? Luke couldn’t remember.
But his height came in handy sometimes, like now when he noticed her stumble slightly in front of him and before she fell on her face he reached out to prevent it.
“Keep walking, Pip,” the words slipped out of his mouth without missing a beat. She turned to look up at him and smiled which he also returned very easily. Her body was warm as he guided her a bit more quickly to the car.
When he helped her climb in, she shot him another smile but he didn’t reciprocate that one. He’d smiled twice that day, and each time was due to Emmy. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of that.
•••••
On the third day of Emmy being with her brother, she decided to make lemon poppy seed muffins, but with real lemons. Both Michael and Crystal took their respective cars to do whatever they had to do so she couldn’t drive to the store and get fresh lemons. Then she remembered Ashton had a lemon tree in his backyard.
When she texted him asking if she could use some, he told her absolutely but he was out shopping with Cal and told her Luke would be home so she could go right over. Emmy chewed on her bottom lip, she didn’t want to bother Luke but her need to have lemon poppy seed muffins was greater.
It took her nearly twenty minutes to walk to his house but it was a nice day so she didn’t mind too much. With a deep breath she knocked on the door and hit the doorbell. If he didn’t answer in the next twenty seconds, she’d call it quits and head back to her brother’s. When she counted to eight the door opened and revealed Luke still looking a little disheveled like last night.
Dark circles were still present under his eyes, and he just looked exhausted. He was wearing a white t-shirt and faded skinny jeans.
“Uh, hi!” Emmy greets her voice a little high. “Um, I’m making lemon poppy seed muffins but I don’t have a car or lemons and Ashton said I could take some from his tree and he said you were home. So . . .”
She said everything in such a rush Luke stares at her in confusion until her explanation marinates in his brain. She needed lemons.
“Yeah, all right.” He mumbles opening the door wider and lifting his arm up higher. “It’s in the back.”
She pauses for a moment waiting for him to move out of the way, when he doesn’t she ducks under his arm (though she could have easily walked normally because he was that tall) and enters the house. Emmy glances around at her surroundings before seeing a sliding door to the backyard.
The tree was a bit taller than her and it had a lot of lemons much to her excitement. She took care in picking the perfect ones, she needed six, then looked up at Luke as he shuffles in the opening.
“Do you have a plastic bag I can put these in?” she asks.
He nods silently then disappears back in the house. Emmy sighs feeling a little jaded at his silence but she reminds herself to give him space. She went through something similar with her most recent ex. Time does heal all wounds, it’s just annoying when you don’t know how much time exactly it will take.
When Luke returns she smiles a thank you and pours her gathering into the plastic. She loops the handles through her fingers stepping back into the house.
“Did you walk here?” he asks from behind. Emmy spins around to face him, his brows are pulled together.
“Yeah, it’s only a twenty minute walk,” she shrugs continuing her path to the front door.
“Hang on, I’ll drive you. My car’s out front.”
“Oh, no. Luke, you don’t have to—“
He already snatched his keys and brisked past her out the front door.
“All right, then,” she sighs following him. She makes sure to lock the door so no robbers come to Ashton’s house. She slides into Luke’s sleek black car and buckles herself in.
She doesn’t notice Luke smirk at that, it’s a ten minute drive did she really think they’d hit something? He doesn’t say anything and drives to Michael’s house.
He pulls into the driveway not bothering to put it in park.
“Thank you,” she says then stops when she’s halfway out. She looks back at him and asks, “Do you want to help me make them?”
“You’re—what?” he had his automatic response to say ‘you’re welcome’ ready but her question caught him off guard.
“Muffins,” she lifts the bag, “want to help me?”
He stares at her with his mouth open. She wanted him to stay and help make muffins? Why would she want him to help?
Why did he put the car in park and get out following the short girl inside?
She rolls the lemons out of the bag, catching the ones that were a bit more dangerous of rolling off the counter then she began prattling of directions for him to do. Luke had no idea why he listened, he had no idea how to make muffins from scratch. He sighs doing what she says, it’s better than being alone doing nothing.
“The glaze is the best part,” she says while she’s pouring the batter into the colorful muffin cups. “It’ll taste even better since we used real lemon. Did you know poppy seeds come up on urine tests as drugs?” she giggles at her little known fact and Luke smiles at her.
“I eat so many of these that I’d probably look like I’m on a constant high,” she continues as if his smile was enough of a response. Luke appreciates that.
When the pans are full she places them on the racks and Luke catches himself staring at her ass as she bends over, her jean shorts fit her perfectly. He averts his gaze back to the glaze he was mixing.
What the hell was that? Did he really just check out Emmy’s ass?
“Do you want some tea? We can sit outside while we wait for them to be done,” she says already pulling the pitcher from the fridge.
Luke clears his throat, “sure.”
He follows her outside to the patio, the pool water glistening in the LA sun and she sits on one of the chairs around the small bonfire pit. He sits in the one next to her and take a big gulp from his iced tea. It was perfectly sweet.
“I made that this morning, I hope it taste okay,” she says.
“’ts perfect,” he comments running his thumb over the condensation that’s already formed.
They sit in a comfortable silence but he can feel her gaze on him the whole time. Normally he would snap at anyone who would stare but he didn’t feel the need to. He knew she was analyzing him. She’s been that way since she was little but he didn’t want to talk about him or his feelings.
“Hey, Luke?”
“Hm?” he hums still looking at the droplets on his glass.
“You don’t have to now, or ever, but if you ever do want to talk I’m a good listener. I’ve gone through the same thing.”
He looks up at her in surprise, eyebrows raised.
“Just wanted you to know,” she smiles shyly then takes a sip of her tea before looking back at the pool.
They sit in a comfortable silence sipping their iced tea until the alarm on her phone goes off signifying the muffins being done.
“Come on,” she says lightly. To his surprise she grabs his hand in hers towing him inside to the kitchen.
She made it seem like the easiest thing in the world, grabbing his hand and Luke couldn’t deny that he really, really liked it. Despite her being so much smaller than him, her hand fit in his perfectly. To his dismay she let go as soon as she picked up the oven mitts and opened the oven.
He felt the heat engulf the air surrounding them, she sighs happily as she sets the first tray of muffins down.
“They’re perfectly brown,” she gushes, her big blue eyes staring up at him happily before going to get the other pans.
Once all the trays were laid out, she carefully tipped them over letting the muffins tumble out onto the counter. Without her telling him Luke began facing them right side up.
“Careful,” she murmurs without a second thought.
Luke glances at her, it seemed so easy for her to be concerned about him. To have his best interests at heart; first with what she said out by the pool and now telling him not to burn himself on the muffins. Two vastly different things, but still. It filled Luke with a warmth he hasn’t experienced in a long time.
“Okay!” she claps her hands once the mitts are off. “You can put the glaze on.”
“Me?” he asks watching her clean up the pans in the sink, the cool water hisses as it touches the hot pans.
“Yeah, you made the glaze, you can put it on.”
“I don’t want to do it wrong,” he furrows his eyebrows.
“There’s no wrong way to do it,” she giggles grabbing the bowl of lemon glaze and a spoon. “You can drizzle, you can plop as much as you want on it, you can even make . . .” she took the spoon scraping the gooey goodness onto it then dabs two circles and a smile beneath them. “A smiley face. Here.”
She hands him the muffin she decorated and Luke smiled back at the happy muffin.
“He’s cute,” Luke chuckles softly picking up the spoon and getting to work.
They continue to work in silence, him decorating (he made muffins look like the guys and was working particularly hard on one) while she continued to clean the kitchen of their baking mess.
“Finished?” she asks.
“Don’t look yet,” he turns his back blocking her view from his masterpiece.
“What are you doing to that muffin?” she laughs trying to sneak a peek. “Don’t be naughty!”
“I’m not being naughty, Pip,” he chuckles. “It has to be perfect, look at the other ones. Guess which one’s your brother.”
She scans the other muffins then giggles when she notices one with ‘hair’ covering it’s eyeballs. It was actually quite good for only using glaze.
“Okay, finished.” He spins around holding the muffin in his palm.
Emmy steps a little closer peering at the muffin. He seemed to have taken the most time with this one. The eyes are big, the mouth looks pretty and he drizzled the sides so it looked like hair.
“Is that . . . supposed to be me?” she mumbles looking up at him.
His eyes soften when they make eye contact and he bites his bottom lip before nodding. “Yeah. Do you like it?”
She smiles slowly, glancing back at the muffin and the way he’s holding it so it wouldn’t fall on the floor.
“I love it, looks just like me,” she giggles again.
He sets it down on the counter gingerly, leaning his hand on the counter as he leans closer to her. His blond hair falls in front of his eyes.
“Thanks for all of this,” he says gently.
“For making muffins?”
“No, well, yes but for not pushing for answers or explanations or asking how I’m feeling. It’s nice not being looked at like a china doll.”
She stares up at him in shock, that’s the most he’s said to her since she got here a few days ago. She’s noticed how deep his voice is, how sultry it sounds and how it makes her knees weak.
“You’re welcome, Luke,” she rests her hand on top of his. “Believe me when I say that I know exactly what you’re going through. Trust me.”
He frowns at that, how could someone who radiates light and happiness know what it’s like to deal with the aftermath of a toxic relationship and a nuclear break up? How could someone have done that to her?
“You do?”
“Yeah, and it does get better. No one else can fix it but you, and it takes time.”
“Who hurt you? Mike never said—“
“Michael never knew,” she shakes her head. “It all happened while you were touring. I couldn’t bother him with it, there was nothing he could have done anyway. And now it’s over and I’m better and it’s done with,” she shrugs.
“What happened?”
She opens her mouth to reply when the front door bangs open and Michael’s already chattering away.
“I smell food! Delicious food!” he exclaims entering the kitchen.
Luke and Emmy break away from each other instantly, Luke’s hand already feels cold without hers on top of his. Instead he uses it to rub the back of his neck.
“What did you—oh. Luke! What’re you doing here?” Michael smiles excitedly upon seeing his best friend while Emmy giggles at her brother’s antics.
“He helped me make muffins from Ashton’s lemon tree,” she explains.
Michael glances between Luke, the muffins and Emmy, then repeats the action twice more before shaking his head in disbelief.
“Wow, that’s great. Are you sure Ashton said you could use his lemons?” he peers closer at the muffins taking a whiff of the lemony scent.
“Yes, I called him.”
“Why didn’t you go to the store?”
“Hm, maybe because I don’t have a car? Duh.”
“Okay sassy pants,” Michael laughs, “you could have called an Uber.”
“That’s just stupid. I’d pay for the car then I’d have to pay for the lemons and pay again for a ride home? Ashton’s was closer. And free,” she grins triumphantly and Luke smiles.
Her logic was pretty spot on.
Michael stares at Luke for a moment, he hasn’t seen him smile—a genuine smile—in who knows how long. “Fair point. I’ll rent a car for you to drive while you’re here.”
“I can drive her,” Luke suggests with a slight shrug.
Both Clifford’s turn their attention to the quiet blond. Emmy’s eyes are glowing and Michael is staring at him like he’s got two heads and a unicorn horn.
“Really?” she asks.
“Yeah, really? You don’t have to, Luke, you’re not her chauffer,” Michael shakes his head. What the hell is going on with him?
“I don’t mind. It’ll give me something to do, it’s no big deal,” he shrugs again then looks between both siblings. “Really.”
“Thanks Luke,” Emmy smiles.
•••••
Emmy: hey muffin man, want to get some fro-yo? Mike and crys don’t want to L
Luke: it’s like 10 at night, aren’t they closed?
Emmy: all but one ;) I’ll send you the address. Pretty please?!
Luke: all right lol I’ll be there in 5
Emmy: thanks muffin man, you’re the best
Ashton peeks his head out of his drum room, his headphones hung around his neck. He heard Luke exit his room and jingle his keys.
“Where are you going?” Ashton asks trying not to sound surprised.
“Fro-yo,” Luke says simply.
“By yourself?”
“No, I’m going to pick up Emmy.” He fits his snapback on his head then turns to Ashton as if waiting for him to stop him.
“Oh. Okay. Have fun, mate,” Ashton smiles but inside he’s screaming in excitement. Luke nods his goodbye then leaves through the garage. Ashton immediately calls Calum to tell him the news.
It’s been so long since Luke has wanted to go out and actually do something since what happened with Lea. Yes, it was eleven months ago but he was still hurting. They could all feel it, and now, with Emmy being here for only a week, she’s got him making muffins and going to get fro-yo at ten thirty at night.
•••••
Luke couldn’t help but glance at Emmy while he drove down the street, she looked undeniably cute in her pair of black leggings and long sleeved shirt. She took her flip flops off and sat cross legged on her seat because she’s small and she can.
He had a permanent smile on his face listening to her rant and rave about this 24 hour frozen yogurt place called Moon-Glo that she found on Google. She was reading off all the flavors they had for the night and he could already tell which ones she was going to get.
He had the worst desire to reach over, take her hand and kiss her knuckles while he drove. He shook his head trying to clear the thought but ever since they made muffins a few days ago, he’s been thinking of her nonstop.
Thinking of her also made him think of the guy who put her through a bad break up. He wanted to know what happened, how she dealt with it and how that guy could possibly let someone like Emmy go.
“Hey, you over there,” she says.
He feels her finger scratch at his elbow gently to get his attention and he looks over.
“Hm?” he hums.
“What’s on your mind?”
“Um . . .” he heaves a big sigh turning into the parking lot of the yogurt shop. He puts the car in park but keeps it running. “What happened, with your last relationship?”
He chews on the inside of his lip, gripping the steering wheel waiting for a response. When he hears her sigh he risks looking her way. He was expecting her to be angry but her lips were pursed, which he couldn’t help but find adorable even under his heavy question.
“Let’s get our yogurt first.”
“Right,” he mutters shutting off his car.
When they enter the small shop it’s designed to look like the moon. Craters are painted on the floor, walls and the ceiling. Little astronaut men stand on the tables and neon lights are displayed above the yogurt machines, making the flavors appear to glow in the dark.
“This is so cool!” Emmy gasps then takes Luke’s wrist dragging him to the counter that has the little testing cups. Taking a risk, he twists his hand in her grasp so he can grab onto her hand, lacing his fingers through hers. He finds a small victory that she doesn’t yank away. “Let’s try them all.”
They held hands while they sampled the flavors, except the peanut ones, and Luke was over the moon (pun intended). She decided on a black cherry with vanilla, and added fruit and caramel and little gummi bears. She topped it off with a cherry.
Luke went for chocolate and added Oreo crumbles with coconut shavings. He paid for her and he noticed her cheeks turn rosy. He had to stop himself from bending down and kissing them.
“You want to eat in here?” he asks grabbing two spoons, they’re silver with a moon on the end of the handle.
“Let’s go in your car,” she shook her head then turned to the cashier and smiled radiantly. “Thank you, have a good night.”
“Uh, you too.”
Luke nodded to the cashier then held the door open for Emmy. There was a slight breeze as they walked to his car and slid in. He turned it on so that his playlist could be heard softly in the background.
“Mm,” she hums as she take the first few spoonfuls. “This is my new favorite place. Wow. Okay. So you want to know about Mason?”
“Only if you’re comfortable,” he assures spooning his own treat. “That’s his name? Mason?”
“Yep. We broke up two years ago. I didn’t realize how bad of a relationship it was until it was over. He talked to this girl constantly that I never had a good feeling about, he’d make plans without telling me and I’d go along with them. He’d ignore me when we were with his friends. Then he wanted to be on a break because I became too clingy apparently.
“Then he broke up with me over text and the next day he was in a relationship with the girl he was talking to. Then they both harassed me and I was . . . I was in a bad place. I didn’t eat. I wasn’t sleeping. I listened to sad music all the time and I was just . . . not okay. It was hard. I cried constantly and I never interacted with my friends anymore.”
“I’m sorry, Emmy,” Luke says softly. He shifts in his seat to face her properly. “He’s an idiot for letting you go like that. I’m sorry you had to go through that alone.”
“Thank you, and it’s okay,” she shrugs taking another spoonful. “I don’t know how I did it but somehow I pulled myself out of the hole I let myself fall into. Talking to you guys on Facetime really helped, even though I had to fake it most of the time.”
Luke thinks back to the times they’d walk in on Michael speaking with her on the phone. They’d act like complete idiots but Emmy would laugh all the same.
All that time she was heartbroken? And none of them noticed?
“I should’ve—we should’ve noticed you weren’t yourself. I’m sorry, lovie, we could have helped—“
“You did. Just by being your goofy selves and making fun of Mikey made me feel better. You guys made me laugh when I thought I couldn’t.”
She doesn’t comment on the term of endearment that slipped out and he didn’t bring attention to it either. But God, did it feel good to call her that. It felt so natural.
“Honestly, Luke don’t worry about it. I’m better now, I promise.”
“You handle yourself a lot better than I do,” he grimaces swirling his contents in his bowl. “After what happened with Lea, I drank and smoked every day. From whenever I woke up to whenever I went to sleep. That’s why I’m at Ashton’s house a lot, he’s kept me in check.”
“We all handle our hurts differently,” her finger close around his wrist.
Luke tenses slightly at the unexpected touch then relaxes when she rubs circles into his skin.
“But let’s talk about something happier. How’s your fro-yo?”
•••••
“Your sister should have come out earlier,” Ashton tells Michael.
“Like ten months earlier,” Calum agrees drinking from his beer. They’re sat in the living room watching Michael play a video game.
“Honestly, I have no idea what she’s doing but it’s working. Luke seems more like himself than he has in the past year and a half,” Michael says. His thumbs working furiously on the buttons of his controller.
“Do you think they’re just hanging out or doing other . . . things?” Calum asks carefully side eyeing Michael.
Michael pauses the game turning slowly to Calum, his face is expressionless sans the anger in his eyes.
“That’s my little sister, Cal,” he says in a warning voice.
“I know! But she’s not little anymore, and she did have a crush on Luke growing up. They’re both adults spending some time together, y’know, things happen,” he shrugs as if it’s not a big deal.
“Okay, I’ll remember that next time Mali hangs out with Trey,” Michael snaps and Calum’s eyes widen.
“What? Who’s Trey?”
“Guys,” Ashton tries to break up the fight before it happens.
“Just a guy she’s hanging out with, no big deal right? Cause they’re probably sleeping together.”
“That’s my sister!”
“Now you see my point!”
“Guys! Bigger picture, please!” Ashton shouts this time and the other two fall silent. “You should see him at the house whenever Emmy texts or calls him. I swear he’s becoming himself again.”
“What would you do if they are dating?” Calum asks.
“Nothing I could do is there? She’s her own person, he’s my best friend. They can do what they want, but if he breaks her heart I’ll give him hell.”
“I thought I was your best friend,” Calum frowns.
“You’re all my best friends,” Michael sighs, “We’ve been over this a hundred times. Are they dating?”
“Where even are they anyway?” Calum asks looking around.
“Luke said they were going mini golfing and to a movie,” Ashton grins.
“They’re definitely dating,” Calum nods.
•••••
The movie they went to see didn’t end until about 1 a.m. they went to a late showing and it was about three hours long. Emmy loved it even though she cried and Luke didn’t hesitate in wiping her tears away from her cheeks.
“Hey, can we go to—“
“Moon Glo?” he smiles looking her way and she squeals in happiness.
“You’re the best,” she claps her hands excitedly and Luke chuckles.
They ordered the same thing as last time and sat talking in his car until Emmy began to yawn. Luke took her empty bowl and threw it out along with his in the garbage on the sidewalk. When he got back she blinked slowly at him.
“Time to take you home, Pip,” he murmurs pulling his seatbelt across himself and starting the car.
“Don’t wanna,” she sighs with a pout.
“You’re sleepy,” he chuckles. “I won’t have you sleep in my car, it’s not that comfortable.”
“Fine,” she sighs.
Emmy does end up falling asleep on the drive back and Luke thinks she looks horribly adorable with her head resting on the middle of the console. Her lips are pursed and her long lashes cast shadows on her round cheeks. He sighs longingly as he pulls into Michael’s driveway and he brushes her hair from her face.
“Hey, we’re home,” he says softly near her ear, “Emmy, wake up.”
She groans but blinks her eyes open slowly.
“Come on, sleepy girl,” he chuckles unlocking her belt. He catches it so it doesn’t strike her face and lets it retract slowly.
She unfurls her legs and Luke scrambles out of the car to open her door. He helps her unlock the front door and she nearly falls taking off her shoes. Which is odd considering she’s wearing flip-flops.
Luke steadies her and asks in a hushed voice, “Which is your room?”
“Up,” she points tiredly.
He smiles leading her to the stairs which could be an issue so he lifts her into his arms and carries her the rest of the way. He figures the room on the left is hers, it shows the skyline of the hills beautifully, and she’s always liked a good view. He lays her down gently on the bed but she clutches his sweatshirt in her fingers.
“Stay,” she demands weakly, her big doe eyes staring at him.
“I’ll be fine, I’m going back to Ash’s place—“
“No. You could hit a raccoon. Come on, just go to sleep,” she sighs shifting in the bed so he has room.
Luke’s heart is pounding in his ears at her request. “You sure?” he breathes.
“Yes. Now get in her Lucas, it’s getting cold.”
He toes off his shoes and removes his socks. Then he tugs his sweatshirt off so he’s in his t-shirt. Normally he sleeps in just his boxers but no way is he going to do that right now. He clears his throat about to climb in when she stops him.
“What are you doing?” she’s sitting up now.
“I’m—you told me to go to sleep,” he stares at her confused.
“Who sleeps in skinny jeans?” she huffs then gets out of bed and picks up an article of clothing. “These are Mike’s basketball shorts. Put those on.”
She chucks them at him and he turns around to peel off his jeans. He sighs at the looser fit of the shorts. When he spins around she’s changed into shorts and a t-shirt of her own. Damn, that’s fast.
“Better?” she asks climbing back into her bed.
“Much. Thank you,” he says then awkwardly gets into bed with her. He makes sure to stay as far from her as he can, he doesn’t want to cross any boundaries. Especially with his best friend’s younger sister.
His chivalry is tossed out the window though because she pulls him to her, his arm falling over her waist and she tickles her fingers up and down his arm.
“Now sleep,” she tells him burrowing further into her pillow.
The sound of her breathing and the light, coaxing touches of her fingers on his skin relaxes him and he closes his eyes. On average he only sleeps maybe four hours every night, so when he will inevitably wake up he’d sneak out before Michael or Crystal realized he was in bed with Emmy.
•••••
When he woke up, sunlight was streaming through the curtains. He shifted and inhaled a flowery smell mixed in with coconut; it was nice and he inhaled more. Soft giggles filled his ears and he opened his eyes to see his head nestled in Emmy’s neck.
“You’re tickling me,” she giggles again.
“Sorry,” he mumbles sleepily and he pulls his head back.
She rolls over, a smile already painted on her face. “Morning sunshine.”
“Morning,” he grumbles. His fingers rub circles on her lower back. “What time is it?”
“Almost noon.”
“Fuck. Really?”
“Yeah, you slept a long time,” her finger touch the skin below his eyes delicately. “Your eyes don’t look as dark.”
“Yours are, you’ve got mascara everywhere,” he chuckles.
“Great,” she groans. “I look like a raccoon.”
“A cute raccoon,” he grins biting his lip.
She rolls her eyes. “If you say so. I’m hungry. Let’s go get food.”
“How are you this chipper when you just wake up?” he asks rubbing sleep from his eyes.
“I’ve been awake for an hour,” she snickers then rolls out of his arms and onto the floor.
When Luke opens his bleary eyes from behind his hands, he’s transfixed by Emmy before him. Her sleep shorts rose up a bit and he’s staring straight at the bottom of her ass cheeks. He’s oh so tempted to reach out and squeeze, pulling her back into bed and onto his lap.
Woah…what?
“Are you checking me out?”
“No,” he responds too quickly averting his eyes then curses himself. He gets out of bed as well and tousles his hair.
“You’re a terrible liar,” she laughs.
Luke sighs in defeat then follows her downstairs. He hears Michael and Crystal’s voices and he gulps. He readies himself for a punch in the stomach or a clock to his face from Michael. He’s prepared to say they just slept.
“Oh my God. They’re alive!” Michael laughs from the couch, his guitar in hand. Crystal laughs beside him scrolling through her tablet. “Do you guys have a fro-yo hangover?”
“Yes, now we need hangover food. Wanna make us some French toast?” Emmy smiles with her tongue between her teeth, she makes her eyes really big and blinks them super-fast.
Luke would say yes in a heartbeat from her expression alone but Michael doesn’t give in to his sister’s shenanigans as easily.
“Nice try,” he deadpans. “Make them yourself, Pipsqueak.”
She sticks her tongue out then tugs Luke into the kitchen. Luke glances to Michael in alarm as she held his hand but he’s paying them no attention.
“Babe, you should make her breakfast. She’s our guest,” Crystal says.
“She can make her own breakfast!”
“I had to make you breakfast when we were home alone in the summer, Mikey,” Emmy calls gathering the French toast ingredients.
Then there’s a smack from Crystal and they bicker quietly together on the couch. Emmy stares up at Luke triumphantly.
“I love getting him in trouble with her.”
•••••
Their group is going out to Viral, their favorite club and Luke just came downstairs in all black with his shirt unbuttoned and two pairs of necklaces. He took a shower beforehand and he’s feeling fresh and ready to party. He’s really anxious to see Emmy.
“Hey man, ready to go?” Ashton asks with Calum behind him.
“Yeah, are the cabs coming to Michael’s?” Luke asks shoving his wallet in his back pocket.
“They’re gonna meet us there,” Calum says.
“Oh,” Luke chews on his bottom lip deflating a little. He won’t get to walk in with Emmy and see her reaction to the place. “All right.”
He’s silent in the car ride to the club, and does a bemused wave to fans that spot them outside the club before they enter. He heads to the bar as soon as they’re in the VIP section, slams down a shot then orders his usual.
Ashton and Calum are looking at him worriedly when he makes it back to their sitting area, he chooses to ignore them much like the girls who are making eyes at him. He knows who they are since he’s seen them naked before but he ignores them as well. None of them hold his interest anymore.
Except one.
He’s halfway done with his first drink, so he gets up to buy another—he’ll finish this one easily on the way—when he spots Michael and Crystal walking towards him hand in hand. Emmy’s not with them, great, she’s probably on a date—
There she is. Emmy shuffles beside her brother, her eyes landing on Luke straightaway. He smiles instinctually and veers to her direction, her smile alone pulls him. His arms slip around her easily as he embraces her in a tight hug. He squeezes her to him causing her to lift from the ground slightly and she laughs in his ear.
Everyone else around them disappears, his focus is only on her and when he sets her down on her feet he takes in her outfit. She’s wearing a pretty red romper with a black belt and ankle boots. She’s mouthwatering.
“You’re drooling,” she teases rubbing her thumb on his dry bottom lip. He knows he’s not but her touch sets his skin ablaze.
“Can you blame me?” he smiles lazily grabbing her hand. “Want something to drink?”
“A mint mojito,” she beams following him to the bar.
“Classy girl,” he smirks then flags down the bartender.
•••••
“He didn’t even look at us! Does he know we’re here?” Michael exclaims exasperatedly watching Luke and Emmy at the bar. He and Crystal joined the others sitting around the small round glass table.
“Oh leave him be,” Crystal squeezes her boyfriend’s knee. “I think it’s cute. Did you see how his face lit up when he saw her?”
“He was pretty bent up that we were meeting you here,” Calum says.
“I think he wanted to drive with Emmy,” Ashton adds.
“That’s so cute,” Crystal sighs.
“He’s lucky I know him, I wouldn’t want someone else looking at my sister like he is,” Michael sighs.
“Like what?”
“He’s looking at her like she’s the sun,” Crystal grins watching them.
•••••
Luke and Emmy join the rest of the group but make sure to sit close together, Luke’s leg is touching hers and she has her hand resting on his knee as they join in conversation. Luke nurses his second drink, he doesn’t want to be too intoxicated and forget what he and Emmy do together.
She’s taking shots and is on her fourth drink when she and Crystal head to the bathroom. As she passes by Luke, she takes his face in her hand and rubs his cheek affectionately before following Crystal to the bathroom. He watches her go with a permanent smile which quickly fades when he turns to his three best friends. All of their eyebrows are raised and Michael is staring him down.
“Uh, yes?” he asks awkwardly.
“What’s going on between you two?” Ashton giggles.
“What do you mean?”
“You were going to get plastered tonight, and I know because I saw the look in your eye, but as soon as Emmy arrived you’ve barely finished your second drink. Which probably is so watered down you can’t even taste the alcohol anymore,” Ashton explains.
“You’ve been by each other’s side the whole time,” Calum adds sipping his cocktail.
Luke doesn’t know what to say but he looks at Michael. His expression is hard to read, what with the flashing lights and the fact that he’s been drinking as well.
“Does my sister make you happy?” Michael asks.
“Of course she does!” Ashton answers for Luke very loudly. “He hasn’t been this happy in so long, and it’s all because of her, right?”
“Yeah, Luke admits sheepishly. “I’m sorry Mike. I didn’t plan on this happening but she’s just . . . she’s something else.”
•••••
“Tell me Ems, are you and Luke dating?” Crystal asks while they’re leaning against the bathroom sinks.
“What? Why would you say that?”
“He’s spent the night nearly every night since you got here. He’s talking a lot more, he’s smiling a lot more, and you haven’t left his side the whole night.”
“I don’t know what we are, we haven’t talked about it. We haven’t even kissed yet,” Emmy sighs in disappointment.
“I can tell you, the boy is smitten with you,” Crystal winks.
“How can you tell?”
“How can you not? Did you not see the way he smiled at you when we came?” Crystal asks and Emmy blushes in response. “He’s changed a lot since you got here, he seems more like himself ever since Lea . . .”
•••••
Emmy is lost in thought as they exit the bathroom as Crystal drags her to the bar to order a shot. Luke notices them standing by the bar, he doesn’t know why but he feels like he should be over there. Even though they’re in the VIP section, creeps are still everywhere.
He’s only half listening to the guys’ conversation because his attention is on Emmy and the way she’s bouncing on her feet to the beat of the music. The way her eyes close when she laughed at something Crystal said. The way a guy grabbed her waist and pulled her against his chest.
Crystal tries to intervene but is shoved away into another guy and Luke rises immediately. He grabs Michael by the scruff of his shirt who yelps in protest.
“It’s Crystal and Emmy,” Luke hisses quickly and he bound down the stairs like lightning.
“Stop touching me!” he hears Emmy protest.
Upon hearing her voice, Luke yanks the guy off her and she stumbles back into the bar. He shoves the guy as far away from Emmy as he can then motions to security to escort him and his friend out who Michael also shoved away. He watches security take them away until he’s sure they’re gone then he feels small hands touch his arm. He turns around to see Emmy biting her lip, her eyes wide in fear and glistening.
“You’re okay,” he says quickly pressing her against him. She allows herself to be crushed against his strong chest, she already feels safe in his arms. He kisses the top of her head, rubbing her arms and back while Mike tries to console a very drunk and very angry Crystal.
“Want me to take you home?” Luke asks lowly in her ear. She nods and he takes his phone out to text the valet to bring his car around.
He looks to Michael who’s already nodding in understanding that Luke will take his sister home. Luke feels Emmy’s hot breath through his shirt as he continues to soothe her until his phone buzzes.
“Okay, come on lovie,” he says grabbing her hand. “I’ve got you.”
•••••
Emmy’s silent the whole drive to Michael’s. Luke desperately wants to reach out and hold her hand, but the vibe he’s getting from her tells him not to. He doesn’t want to touch her unless she wants him to, but he needs to make sure she’s all right.
Before he has his car in park, she’s already tripping out of the car and up the walkway. Luke sighs then follows after her up to her bedroom but the door is closed. Memories of this being from another time, with a different girl and it made his heart crack at the all too familiar feeling.
No. She’s not Lea. She’s not mad at you.
He raps his knuckles gently on her door, and calls her name softly.
“You can come in,” her muffled voice says from the other side.
He turns the knob, his eyes scanning the room until he finds her pulling out his clothes he’s kept there when he spends the night. She’s already changed into her pajamas, her make up rubbed off hastily. He stands frozen in the doorway, not entirely sure on how to approach her. If he should approach her at all.
Emmy turns then gives him a funny look.
“Get in here and change,” she sighs heavily.
“You sure you want me to stay the night?” he asks taking a hesitant step closer.
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“You seem mad at me,” he shrugs, “and after what happened at the club I thought you’d want to be alone.”
Her arms drop and she’s peering at him intently. She meets him halfway tossing his shirt and shorts on the bed, still looking up at him. She hears how deep he’s breathing, his eyes never leaving hers but she can see the doubt in the sky blue irises.
“Luke Hemmings, being alone is the last thing I want,” her voice is just shy of a whisper but he can hear the true emotion in it.
He swallows as she moves closer and closer, her fingers tuck his curls behind his ear. He notices how her lips are parted slightly and the way her eyes dart between his lips and his eyes.
“What do you want?” he asks thickly.
“I . . . I want you to kiss me, Luke,” she whispers.
He exhales his breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding and attaches his mouth to hers, his arms snaking around her waist to her lower back. Emmy’s hands clutch onto his biceps as he kisses her with so much want and desire. One of her hands find home in his curls and she tugs gently, his tongue swipes her bottom lip then he slips it between her lips.
Luke shifts them lifting her off the ground and he sits down on the bed, Emmy instantly straddling him and their lips stay locked in a heated kiss of teeth and tongue and heavy breathing.
Emmy rises her hips from his lap and Luke slides his hands over the roundness of her ass. She makes quick work of unbuttoning his black silk shirt, pulling the fabric tucked in his jeans and shoves it off his shoulders.
Luke tosses it to his left, or behind him, he’s not sure because he’s focused on the taste of her lips. They’re slightly minty from her mojitos but also sugary from the lemon drop shots she consumed throughout the evening.
Luke kneaded his fingers in the fullness of her ass and she moaned against his mouth, her hips rocking gently against his. His hands travel north over the top part of her romper, his thumbs grazing the sides of her breasts and she nips at his lip and he takes that opportunity to kiss along her jaw. He’s sucking on her skin as he begins to work on her belt but when she sighs he smells the alcohol on her breath and he stops his actions.
He tears his lips away from her jaw and places his hands on the side of her neck. Her eyes are a little bloodshot and filled with excitement, her pretty lips parted.
“What’s wrong?”
“I should stop before I won’t be able to,” he breathes, his eyes darting between hers.
“Oh,” she deflates on top of him and he can see the instant rejection in her eyes.
“No, no, baby, it’s not because I don’t want to,” he tries to recover quickly and holds onto her tighter. “I want to so bad, but not like this.”
She studies him carefully and can hear truth in his voice and knows he’s right. But it still stings.
“Can we kiss until we fall asleep?” she asks softly playing with his necklaces.
“Hey, look at me,” he murmurs ticking her chin up so her dark blue eyes are looking in his. “That’s not even a question.”
She gets off his lap then and they both go to her bathroom to brush their teeth, making eyes at each other in the mirror. Luke watches her fondly as she washes her face free of her make-up and when she’s dried her face he takes her cheeks in his hands kissing her.
They shuffle back to her bed, Emmy crawls in first and Luke hits the light switch before joining her under the covers. In their excitement of kissing some more, her hand smacks his cheek and his presses on her hair.
“Ow!” they yelp then burst into giggles.
“Where are your lips?” she laughs.
“Trying to find yours,” he responds then feels her top lip. “Gotcha.”
They kiss in whispers and he can’t help but notice her lips have a slight taste to coconut, it must be the chapstick she put on after brushing her teeth. Emmy’s fingers thread through his growing curls while Luke’s are strong on her lower back.
“I really like you, Emmy,” he confesses in one breath when they take a break of kissing. Luke’s fingers trail up and down her bare back underneath her shirt.
It feels good to finally say it out loud. The last week and a half he’s spent with her has been the happiest he’s been in so long. She’s repairing the carved out part of his heart that Lea ruthlessly took from him. She didn’t question him or treat him like a ticking time bomb. Emmy’s thumb traces over Luke’s top lip, his heart is racing waiting for her response.
“I really like you, Luke,” she admits giving him a gentle kiss. “And I really like kissing you.”
“I really like kissing you,” a smile spreads on his face before he kisses her with all he’s got.
“And it’s okay?” she gasps out.
“What’s okay?”
“That I like you and you like me even though I’m Mikey’s little sister?”
Luke draws back, his brows furrowed.
“That’s not an issue, Emmy. Michael and I actually talked about . . . us, kind of. He’s okay with it.”
“Really?! Oh, thank God,” she sighs launching herself on top of Luke peppering kisses all over his face. He’s soon laughing beneath her then tickles her sides in retaliation. Emmy shrieks in laughter at his attack until they’re both panting to catch their breath.
•••••
Luke’s standing alone in Roy’s backyard waiting and watching for Emmy. Roy and Calum decided to throw a midsummer beach party and the place was packed. Luke and Ashton showed up together and Emmy spent the day with Michael and Crystal so they’d be coming later.
Ashton left to mingle immediately and Luke scopes out the other partygoers. Some of them he recognizes from his own party days. He nods politely as they greet him but he’d much rather have Emmy by his side. He never wanted to go back to that life he lived for what felt like forever.
He’s scrolling through his phone then smiles again at the text Emmy sent him not too long ago saying she was on her way. Then he hears an all too familiar laugh that sends a cold sweat on the back of his neck.
Luke looks up to see Lea amongst a group of people, her signature high top-bun and white rimmed sunglasses frame her face as she converses. Luke swallows harshly but it only constricts his throat further. His feet are frozen, his heart is racing and there’s a slight ringing in his ears as panic sets in.
His brain is telling him to escape as fast as he can, to find Ashton or to find Emmy who he hopes is here somewhere but the message doesn’t reach his feet. He’s stuck staring at the girl who wrecked him completely, leaving him in the sunken ship she capsized.
Lea slid her sunglasses up her head then spotted Luke who still couldn’t look away. He thinks there’s a word for it, like when you drive by an accident and you can’t look away? His mind is blank as she stares at him, a ghost of her signature smirk appears before she starts walking his way.
He’s frozen in his spot, the ringing in his ears is louder and higher pitched and all he can do is watch the tornado of a woman create her warpath in his direction.
“Hey! There you are.”
Emmy’s voice breaks through Luke’s panic, and the gentle touch of her hands on his back as she hugs him causes him to tear his eyes away from the storm and onto the light that is Emmy. He exhales in relief when he looks into her eyes and she sees the familiar darkness.
“What’s the matter?”
“Hi Lukey-boo,” Lea greets in a sickly sweet voice, it makes his stomach turn. “Babysitting I see?”
Emmy twists around to look at Lea and Luke closes his eyes, he just wanted to keep looking in her eyes.
“You must be Lea,” Emmy greets brightly. She takes Luke’s hand in her own and squeezes it tightly. “I’ve heard so many things about you.”
“Oh thank you,” Lea smiles smugly, twisting her hair with her fingers.
“I didn’t say they were good things,” Emmy responds icily then turns to Luke. “Come on Luke, Mikey’s looking for you.”
Emmy drags Luke away as quick as she can inside the house, he’s shaking slightly and as soon as they’re inside he slips his hand from hers. He finds the nearest wall then starts smacking it as hard as he can, his teeth clenched.
“Hey, hey, Luke. Luke!” Ashton is suddenly behind him, between him and Emmy, with his hands on Luke’s shoulders. He pulls him away from the wall. “What’s going on?”
“Lea was outside,” Emmy explains quietly watching the scene in front of her.
“Shit,” Ashton mutters then pulls Luke with him upstairs.
Emmy smiles apologetically at the people in the kitchen then scampers after Ashton and Luke. When she looked into Luke’s eyes, he was the ghost of himself she’s never seen before. It terrified her, not for her safety, but only concern for Luke. She finds Ashton and Luke in Calum’s room, it’s far away from downstairs and faces the street instead of the backyard.
“You good? We can leave if you want or I’ll make Roy kick her out,” Ashton says.
“Did Calum know she was going to be here?”
“No, he wouldn’t do that, Luke. She must have overheard about the party or something and came here on purpose to mess with you,” Ashton squeezes Luke’s shoulders. His hands are keeping Luke’s head above the waters. “What do you need?”
“Where’s Emmy?”
“Ash…” Emmy says quietly stepping forward.
“She’s right here,” Ashton steps aside, releasing his hold on Luke.
Luke’s ice blue eyes slide to her and he visibly relaxes, his face softening and shoulders falling.
“You good?” Ashton asks, Luke nods stiffly. “I’ll be downstairs. Text me if you need me.”
Ashton pats him on the back then gives Emmy a small smile before exiting the room. He closes the door softly behind him and Luke falls onto the bed with a big sigh. His elbows rest on his knees and he hangs his head. Emmy joins him and places her hand on his neck.
“Hey,” she scratches the back of his neck with her nails. Luke breathes deeply and sits up straight turning to Emmy.
“Hey,” he croaks. “I’m sorry you had to see me like that. I wasn’t expecting Lea to be here and it’s—it’s been so long I thought I’d be okay and—“
“Luke, it’s okay. You don’t have to explain it to me, okay?” she strokes his cheek with the back of her fingers. “What happened?”
“I couldn’t…” he shakes his head. “I couldn’t move. I saw her and it’s like I was paralyzed. I’m so glad that you showed up when you did, lovie.”
Emmy kisses his forehead, his eyebrow, his cheek and then finally his lips. Her thumbs stroke his cheeks as she looks into his eyes.
“I am too. Do you want to stay or do you want to go somewhere else?”
“I didn’t really want to be here in the first place,” he sighs kissing the inside of her wrist.
“Then let’s go,” she smiles.
He follows her downstairs where Ashton is waiting for them, he perks up at the sight of them.
“What’s goin’ on?” Ashton asks looking between Emmy and Luke.
“We’re blowing this popsicle stand,” Emmy giggles. “Can you tell Mikey we left?”
“Yeah, no problem,” he watches them brisk by then he calls out, “where are you going?”
“An adventure!” Emmy shouts causing Luke to laugh and then they’re gone.
Luke is cruising down the 405 with the windows down and Emmy is singing along to the radio. Every time Luke looks over at her it’s easier for him to breathe and they arrive at the beach just as the sky turns a pretty golden orange.
“Take off your shoes,” Emmy orders already working on her black boots.
Luke toes off his own boots placing his socks inside then setting them down inside the car. He takes her hand leading the way into the hot but soft sand. The warm ocean breeze ruffles his hair and he inhales the salty air.
Their toes touch the water’s edge, Emmy squeals a little at the coolness of it but soon she’s kicking the water up.
“Hey!” he chuckles shielding his face.
“It’s just water,” she teases kicking a spray of it in his direction. Some of the spray hits his cheek.
“Do that again, I dare you,” he threatens but his voice doesn’t ring true of the threat. Emmy does it again. “That’s it, you’re in trouble now.”
“Ahh!” She screams and tries to run from him but his legs are longer and he snatches her up quickly.
He throws her over his shoulder, she’s squealing in laughter as he spins her around making sure to kick up some water.
“Luke!” she laughs patting his back and his butt in an attempt to get him to let her down.
“Say you’re sorry!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
Satisfied, he sets her down gently. They both take a deep breath and then Emmy squats down to splash a huge amount of water on his stomach and legs. She’s laughing so hard she falls into the water on her butt, she gasps in surprise.
“Karma baby,” Luke chuckles.
Emmy groans and stands up. Her jean shorts are a shade darker and her top clings to her skin, the ends of her hair is wet and Luke can tell she’s grumpy about the turn of events. She scowls at him which he thinks is the cutest fucking thing he’s ever seen before she leaps up in his arms. He’s taken aback and staggers backwards, the waves push against his balance and then they’re both in the water but Luke makes sure his hold is secure on Emmy.
“OOF!” he grunts at the impact and the wetness he now feels.
“I made my own karma,” Emmy snickers.
Luke squeezes her waist and stares into her eyes, thankful that karma has brought her back into his life. He wants to tell her his thoughts, but his mouth can’t form the words so he crushes his lips to hers in hopes she’ll understand what he can’t say.
They splash around in the water for a bit longer then sit in the sand until the sun starts to set and their clothes are somewhat dry. They decide to head back to Michael’s house. Emmy’s hand is rising and falling out the window as she sings along to Jaden Smith’s PCH blasting through the speakers.
“Gimme all your kisses baby cause this is bliss, gimme all your kisses baby…” she sings tilting her head from side to side in time with the beat of the song and Luke’s never felt so much fondness for a person before.
The house is quiet when Luke and Emmy arrive, Michael’s car is still gone so they must still be at the party. Luke pulls Emmy against him as soon as the door shuts, his lips on hers. Emmy sighs into the kiss linking her arms around his neck.
“Gimme all your kisses baby,” Luke mumbles and she nods enthusiastically.
He lifts her into his arms, her legs wrap around his waist and he heads upstairs to her bedroom. He sits down on her bed tugging her shirt up and off her head and Emmy removes her bra swiftly before tugging at his t-shirt.
Luke’s hands are hot on her skin as his tongue explores her mouth once more. She smells like the beach and her lips are sun kissed with a hint of saltiness from the ocean water. Emmy moans quietly and it causes Luke’s dick twitch in response.
He pulls away and looks at her, her eyes are alert, lips are red and swollen and she’s smiling. Luke drops his gaze to her bare torso and he lets out a huff at the sight of her chest rising and falling heavily. He presses his lips between her breasts, sponging kisses along the mound until he finds her nipple which he tugs between his teeth. His tongue flicks against it and she sighs in his arms at the sensation.
He shifts to the other breast doing the same thing but sucks hard on the skin, it makes an obscene noise and she whimpers. When he releases her breast he sees his teeth marks surrounding her nipple and his pants tighten at the sight. He looks up at her.
“Fuck, you’re beautiful,” he pants then flips her over so she’s on her back. Her legs rise up on the bed but she stops him before he climbs on top of her.
“Wait, wait,” she holds onto his chest with her palm. “Get the door.”
He smiles and obeys shutting it and locks it for good measure even though he’s positive Michael and Crystal won’t be back for hours. When he turns around he sees she’s just in her black panties and he groans.
“You’re so pretty, baby,” he sighs then kneels in front of her. Luke pulls her closer to him, an excited squeal escaping her lips at the movement and he pulls her panties to the side staring at her bare center. His mouth waters at the sight. “So pretty,” he whispers then runs his finger up her slit, his eyes move to hers.
She’s watching him intently, a fire in her eyes that he’s sure matches his. He teases her more by playing with her folds and kisses her inner thighs.
“Luke,” she whines his name and fuck, does he love the sound, “please.”
That plea is all he needs to hear and he attaches his mouth to her warm wet center, she tastes even better than he’s imagined. She whimpers above him, letting her legs fall open wider for him and he swipes his tongue up and down, in circular motions and flicks at her clit which makes her go wild.
She’s moaning so loud he swears he’s never heard a more beautiful sound, he wants to hear her make those noises forever. Emmy bucks her hips in time with his ministrations.
“You close, lovie?” he rasps looking up at her. She arches her back and moans out a ‘yes.’ “Come on my mouth, baby.”
He devours her, keeping his mouth on her and moving his face roughly from side to side as she moans relentlessly. He searches for her hand that is clutching the sheet in a death grip and drags it to his hair. She yanks and pulls with each spasm of her orgasm washing over her but Luke doesn’t stop. He keeps sucking and licking until her movements slow and she lets out a deeply satisfied sigh.
Luke licks his lips then slips her panties off her waist and down her legs. He stuffs it in his back pocket, kissing both sides of her thighs as she comes down from her orgasm. His gaze is locked on her, watching her facial expressions and the rapid rise and fall of her chest.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a while,” he admits trailing his fingers up and down her leg before hooking it over his shoulder.
“You’re really good at it,” she puffs out and he chuckles.
He lifts her other leg over his shoulder and looks up at her darkly. “Want me to go again, lovie?”
He doesn’t give her time to answer before he slips his middle finger inside curling it as he does. Her mouth opens in a perfect little ‘o’ and she yanks harshly at the root of his curls. She rocks her hips against his finger, a chorus of moans fill the room as he pumps into her faster, harder, and it’s not long until she’s coming beneath him again.
When he removes his finger, he traces a line from her slit, past her bellybutton and around the curves of her breast. Then he scoots back down in between her legs, she whimpers already knowing what he’s planning to do.
“Got one more for me, baby?” he rasps situating himself at her core. Again, he doesn’t give her a chance to answer before he’s diving in, darting his tongue in and out at an antagonizing pace.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!” she squeals pulling on his hair. Her body shakes. Her legs are trembling.
When he adds his finger again she lets out an animalistic growl that only urges Luke to continue pleasuring her, loving the yank of his hair by her fingers. He hums against her, the vibrations adding even more to her pleasure and her body spasms before clenching as she lets out a scream.
Luke feels her come all over his finger and his mouth, his eyes on her the entire time as her whole body lifted from the bed, as if she were ascending into an astral plane of pure ecstasy. When her body drops back down, her legs going lax, is when he decides to stop. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and swipes his finger on his jeans, he doesn’t care that they’re black and it’ll stain.
Luke crawls over her once more, Evie somehow finds the strength to press her palm against his chest. He notices the space between her cleavage is sheened with sweat.
“Please, no more,” she whispers. Her eyes are hooded as she stares up at him.
“No more,” he shakes his head then rests his forehead on hers. “You did so well, baby. I love hearing your moans.” She yawns then and he rolls off the bed to retrieve some new underwear and her pajamas.
He helps her change into them, her legs are wobbling as she does and they head into the bathroom to wash up. Luke holds onto her hip while they brush their teeth and while she washes her face. He tucks her into bed before he pulls off his jeans and places his t-shirt over his head and climbs in behind her. He chuckles to himself when he realizes how she’s lying, her legs are completely spread, and she’s on her stomach with her arms splayed over the pillow.
She looks like a cute little starfish.
He settles in behind her and rubs her back helping her relax, he knows she loves that. Then he kisses her neck and whispers, ‘goodnight, pretty girl.’

When Emmy woke up the next morning, memories of last night flooded into her mind. Butterflies appeared in her tummy as she woke up a bit more, blinking her eyes open slowly. She rolls over to see Luke already awake and staring at the ceiling, his arms locked behind his head.
“Good morning,” Emmy greets, her voice is strained as she stretches her limbs.
“Morning,” he smiles wistfully at her then continues staring at the ceiling.
Emmy’s eyebrows pull together and she scoots herself on his chest. She pulls on his chin until his pretty blue eyes meet hers.
“What’s on your mind?” she asks.
Luke brings his left arm down from behind his head to settle it on her waist. His fingers slip beneath her shirt to tickle her back and goosebumps rise at his feather light touch on her skin.
“I think I want to go back home.”
“To Aus?”
“N-no . . . my house. Here. In LA,” his Adam’s apple works in his throat.
“Oh,” Emmy squeaks then clears her throat. “Okay. When? Today?”
“Maybe. Yeah. . . I think so. I don’t know,” he closes his eyes breathing deeply through his nose.
“I’ll go with you,” she offers, “unless you want to go alone.”
“No, I want you to come with me, lovie. It’ll help having you there.”
“Okay,” she touches his cheek and his eyes open. She smiles softly. “Hi.”
“Hi pretty girl,” he lifts his head stretching forward to give her a soft kiss.
“Can I try something?” she asks resting her hand on his lower stomach.
“Like what?” He gives her a quizzical look.
“Liiiike what you did for me last night. . .” she slides her hand lower under the sheet and onto his boxers. She rubs her palm over his dick gently and Luke inhales sharply. “. . . but I want to do it for you.”
“You don’t have to Ems,” he licks his lips as she continues to palm him.
He’s getting harder in her hand and he blinks slowly at her soft tugging.
“I want to,” she breathes leaning up to kiss him and she slips her hand underneath his boxers. He’s warm and soft in her hand as she strokes him lazily.
Luke inhales sharply again, his hand squeezes her waist.
“Can I?” she kisses his neck then slides down the length of his body.
“Mhm,” he hums lifting his hips so she can pull his boxers down.
Emmy kisses his tummy softly and continues to give open mouthed kisses on his skin until she kisses the tip of his dick. She continues to mouth him, opening her mouth to let her tongue swirl around his tip.
“Baby,” he sighs and Emmy takes more of him in her mouth.
“Quiet,” she whispers jerking her head to the door behind her. Michael and Crystal are asleep down the hall and she did not want to wake them up like this.
Luke nods and Emmy hollows out her cheeks to take him in her mouth as far as she can go, salivating on him so she can pump him with her hand. Luke’s grunting and groaning softly, watching her every move. He loves the way her head bobs up and down slowly and the way she swirls her tongue up and down his shaft.
He jerks his hips gently with her movements, his fingers comb through her hair and she moves faster. Luke’s panting heavily until he feels his release coming, with a low grunt and no warning, he’s coming in her mouth.
“Babe, babe, Ems,” he gasps trying to get her mouth off him but she swallows all he’s giving her.
Luke throws his head back on the pillows, heart racing, and his body spent. It’s been so long since he’s gotten head, he’s a little embarrassed it didn’t take him long to orgasm to but to have Emmy doing it for him was amazing.
Emmy wipes the corner of her mouth, wincing a little but gives Luke a smile nonetheless.
“Sorry, that’s . . . it’s been a while,” he sighs blinking slowly.
“Did you like it?” her eyes big.
“Yes, baby, I loved it,” he gives her a glazed smile. “C’mere.”
His fingers are in her hair again and they kiss lazily until Michael is banging on the door complaining about how he’s hungry and they’re all going out for breakfast.
•••••
Emmy joins Luke at the front door of his house, he’s twirling his keys between his fingers. She grabs hold of his bicep and Luke gives a small grin that looks more like a grimace then inserts the key. He takes Emmy’s hand in his and leads her inside.
Emmy looks around the space, it’s very modern with a lot of sharp edged furniture. Everything is in its own place and very black and white. It’s the furthest thing from Luke and Emmy didn’t like it at all.
“Well, this is it,” he gestures, “What do you think?”
“It’s very. . .” Emmy scans the empty kitchen and bare walls. “Clean.”
Luke snorts walking her down the hall. “It’s very Lea. She chose everything.”
Emmy frowns at that and peeks in the rooms before they stop in a bedroom she assumes is his room. It’s also very modern and monochromatic. The only splash of color is from a potted plant in the corner that is surely fake, no wonder Lea chose it.
Emmy moves to the window to see a nice view of of the hills and a small pool that’s in serious need of some care. When she turns around, Luke is sitting on the bed watching her with a thoughtful expression.
“What’s running through your mind, honey bun?” she asks threading her fingers through his curls.
He smiles at the nickname and grabs hold of her thigh, his thumb rubs circles on her exposed skin below her shorts.
“I want to get rid of everything. Repaint the walls, get new furniture and a new bed,” he grins deviously up at her and pulls her closer.
“I think that’s a marvelous idea,” she smiles.
“Do you want to help me?”
“Really? I don’t want to intrude—“
“You won’t,” he shakes his head, “I want your opinion since . . .”
“Since what?”
“Since I want you to visit and I want you to visit a lot and I want you to like it too.”
Emmy melts into his arms, hugging him tightly. His arms are wrapped around her and he pulls her onto his lap.
“Is that okay?” he asks in her ear.
“It’s more than okay. That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard, Luke,” she kisses his shoulder.
“You’re the sweetest thing.”

Luke and Emmy got to work right away on remodeling his house. He donated all of his furniture and hired a cleaning crew for the whole house, and the pool before the painters come.
While the painters were doing their job, Luke and Emmy went furniture shopping. He was a little apprehensive at first, but only because flashbacks of when he and Lea did the same thing she chose everything while Luke followed along silently.
But with Emmy, she made everything fun and lighthearted. She tested each couch cushion, pulling him down with her. It’s like she was goldilocks and Luke felt like he was anything but the big bad wolf like how Lea made him feel.
He decided on a blue couch with gray armchairs for the living room and he chose a king sized bed and a dark red armchair for his bedroom. It would all be delivered by next week which would be crunch time because in two weeks they’d be leaving for Bali.
As they were leaving the furniture store to go decoration shopping, Luke noticed some familiar photographers hanging around across the street. He remembers how Emmy nearly fell the last time she was around the paps and he took hold of her hand.
Was that already two months ago?
Luke keeps glancing at her once he’s driving to the next store and he can’t believe the timeline of him and Emmy.
Growing up, she was always Mikey’s younger sister who wanted to play video games and hang out with them all the time. When their music career began, they lost touch and sight of each other but he thought about her often.
“What’re you thinking so hard about over there?” Emmy pulls him out of his reverie just as they climb out of the car.
“You,” he answers simply holding out his hand for her to take. He doesn’t miss the blush on her cheeks and Luke loves it.
“Oh,” she giggles softly.
The decorating was his favorite thing to shop for because Emmy got so animated about everything she saw. She’d say where it would look best in his house and how it would pair nicely with something else she found in another aisle. Being with Emmy was as easy as breathing and blinking. He didn’t have to think about it, it just . . . felt so right.
Emmy is pointing out bookends that are guitars and Luke steps forward and places his finger under her chin so he can kiss her softly. His lips move against hers slowly, wanting to show her how delicate she is and deserves to be treated with such care.
“What was that for?” she exhales smiling up at him.
“I’m happy you’re here with me, Pip.” Luke’s fingers brush her hair back over her shoulder.
“You haven’t called me that since I got here,” she giggles.
“I know, you’re still my Pipsqueak. I think I’ve got all we need, ready to go back to your brother’s?”
She nods slowly taking his hand and they exit the store. As soon as they step into the hot LA sun, their names are being shouted left and right while a multitude of shutter speeds click a mile a minute. Emmy immediately coils into Luke’s side and he shifts his arm around her shoulders guiding her to the car.
“Is it true you and Lea are talking things through?”
“How does Michael feel about you with his sister?”
“What’s it like dating Luke?”
“Are you moving in together?”
“Do you still love Lea?”
The questions were fired from left and right and each time Lea was mentioned Luke tensed up and it only made him approach the car that much faster. Luke shields Emmy’s body with his own so she could get into the car safely and Luke hurried to his side.
Thankfully, the photographers backed away so Luke could peel out of the parking lot. His hands were shaking against the wheel, he flinches when Emmy grabs hold of his fingers with her own. He lets her place his hand in her lap where she caressed his fingers in a soothing way.
He calmed down immediately.
•••••
A week has gone by and Luke’s house is finally complete. He invites Emmy over first so they can be alone before he shows the others. They did this together and he wanted to revel in their job well done.
“Luke, it’s so amazing!” she gushes eyeing the piano he selected.
The space seems more like Luke, it’s open and warm and full of color.
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” he smiles leaning against his kitchen counter. He watches her peer at the guitar bookends on his shelf on either side of his TV. Her smile is radiant as she approaches him, his arms hold onto her waist loosely.
“Does it feel like home?”
His eyes search hers before he leans down pressing his lips to hers, he pulls her tighter against him. One hand travels to her neck and her hands hold onto the sides of his waist. The kiss becomes needy quickly and filled with so much desire Emmy gasps for breath but Luke moves his lips to her neck.
Emmy sighs, her fingers play with the ends of his curls that are getting longer before she starts to work on his buttons and his hands slide under her shirt. They remove the articles of clothing onto the floor, Luke’s fingers slip under the straps of her bra gliding them down her shoulders.
Luke pulls his mouth away from hers to look at her, her eyes are shining and her chest is rising heavily as she tries to catch her breath. To his surprise, she unfastens her bra and lets it fall to the floor between them. Emmy lifts her arms around his neck connecting their lips once more and Luke hoists her legs around his waist.
Lips still molding together, he peeks through his lids as he makes his way to his bedroom and places her on his bed gently. He moves to his knees on the floor as he pulls her shorts and underwear off, his mouth hot on her skin as he did so. He kisses up her leg, tongue delving between her pussy lips slowly.
Emmy sighs above him and he hums against her before removing his own clothes. Her hands reach for him as he reaches for her and then he’s hovering above her. Their eyes meet and they have a silent conversation as she settles herself beneath him and takes hold of him.
He kisses her as he pushes into her carefully. Moaning and sighing with bodies rolling like waves, they find the perfect rhythm easily. Their fingers slot together next to her head and their kisses become sloppy as their movements quicken.
They breathe each other in and when she clenches around him, Luke moans her name in her ear as she fills his with the chorus of her moans. As she comes notes and lyrics fill his head and he moves faster, grunting with each pull and thrust until he’s coming as well.
When he’s finished, he lifts his head to see she’s already staring at him, soft expression on her face and their fingers unlock. Soft pecks to her lips and all over her face makes her laugh and he caresses her cheek.
“You feel like home,” he tells her. She bites her lip then cuddles into his chest, kissing every inch of him she can.
•••••
Bali has been nothing but exceptional for Emmy and she loved having Luke show her around to his favorite spots. During the day they’d do activities like zip lining, visit the Uluwatu Temple and the monkey temple where they each got photos of a little monkey on their shoulders.
Each night they’d have dinner with Michael and everybody else then enjoy a large bonfire on the beach where Luke held Emmy between his legs in the sand. Michael kept a careful eye on them both, more so than when they were back home in LA. He picked up on different things here than back at home.
Like how whenever Luke would look at his sister, he’d have an instant smile on his face and when Emmy would be talking Luke listened very carefully. He always walked with her on the inside of the roads and when they’d join together again if they got split up from sight-seeing, he’d kiss her cheek.
Michael took notice of his sister’s actions as well. While they were looking at the trinket shops, her eyes would be on the token in her hand while her other reached for Luke who would be by her side instantly and she hadn’t even said his name. He noticed the way her face brightened when Luke would greet her with a kiss or simply look at her.
It made Michael happy that his best friend and his sister were so happy together. Especially for Luke, he didn’t seem so broken anymore. It also made Michael realize how grown up his sister is now. She’s no longer the little sister who followed them around wanting to play games and listen to their music.
“You’re quiet, that means you’re thinking something,” Crystal says sitting next to him on the couch out by the pool.
Michael’s eyes are focused on Luke and Emmy across the way in the pool. His sister has her legs in the water while Luke’s arms are resting on her thighs and they’re just talking to each other. Emmy dips her hand in the water then slicks back Luke’s curls, she smiles at something he says.
“I think they’re in love,” Michael finally speaks up, his fingers twiddling together.
“I think so too,” Crystal smiles placing her hand over his just as Emmy squealed in laughter as Luke pulled her into the water with him.
Later that night, before everyone disappeared for bed, Michael pulls Luke aside.
“What’s up?” Luke asks.
Michael gazes at one of his best friends for a moment, Luke’s skin color is tanner from the holiday sun, the dark circles under his eyes are gone completely and his eyes don’t have that hard edge to them anymore. He’s a completely different person from when he was with Lea and he had his little sister to thank.
“Um, I know we sort of talked about this at the club but . . . you’re serious about Ems, aren’t you?” Michael flat out asks.
Luke softens at her name and he nods, his fingers run through his unruly curls. Michael’s noticed he’s let his hair grow out, he seems freer.
“Yeah, I am,” Luke breathes, “she’s really special and important to me, Mike.”
“I can tell,” Michael smiles. “I wanted to tell you how happy I am for the both of you and I’m glad you have each other. It’s great seeing you as yourself again, man.”
“It feels good to be myself again, I have her to thank for it. But, uh, thanks for telling me. I still think you’re going to try and beat me up,” Luke chuckles.
“I have thought about it only because of my natural protective brother instincts,” Michael laughs along, “but you’re not a tiny breadstick anymore.”
They bump fists and then hug each other tightly before splitting off in the direction of their rooms.
When Luke finds Emmy she’s just getting out of the bathroom, her hair wet and she smiles at him when she walks by.
“Couldn’t wait to shower with me?” he teases following her to the bed. She sits cross legged in the center of it.
“It was a quick one just to get the sand off. What did my brother want?”
Luke sits next to her and takes her hands in his that are resting in her lap.
“He told me he’s happy we have each other.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” Luke’s eyes flicker to hers. “Which is great because there’s something I’ve been wanting to show you. . .”
He pulls out his phone and opens up his voice notes app. Emmy watches him scroll down a few until he presses play and sets his phone on her bare knee.
His singing voice croons through the speaker and the sound of the ocean waves makes it even more special as he sings:
You came and topped them all You shine in the dead of the night And I was the first to fall
Fading away, fading away Wake up to someone with nothing to say I never change, though I'd never change Then you come and change it all
With your love, your love, I'm a better, better man With your love, your love, I'm a better, better man Darling, all of my wrongs, they lead me right to you Wrapped in your arms, I swear I'd….
When the recording stopped, Emmy stares at Luke with wide eyes as she lets the piano and the lyrics resonate in her mind. He scoots closer to her then brushes his fingers on her cheek, his eyes focused on hers.
“I love you, Emmy,” he breathes without missing a beat.
His voice is soft as petals falling to the floor and Emmy’s heart catapults in her chest. Her lips widen in a smile and she lifts herself onto her knees to give him a big kiss. Luke’s hands hold onto her lower back as he kisses her back then they fall onto the bed together.
“I love you, too Luke,” she says on his lips.
They roll over together, lips and fingers interlocked anchoring each other. Luke’s no longer a castaway adrift at sea from a broken relationship void of love. Now he’s with Emmy, his shining lighthouse who makes him the better man he was always meant to be.

Chapter warning: there be death and blood. Tread at your own risk
Parings: Danny/Sam
Notes: originally uploaded to Ff.net. Cross-posted to AO3 and tumblr. This fic is very heavily inspired by folklore surrounding mysterious wilderness disappearances
Chapter 5
"Yo, Fenturd, funny seeing you here."
"Last time I checked, our entire class is supposed to be on this trail. I don't know why you're so surprised," Danny quipped before he could stop himself.
Dash grabbed him by the front of his shirt. "What was that?"
"Could you deal with your beef with this loser later? I'm all sweaty and getting covered in dirt. My designer clothes will get ruined at this point," the one girl, Paulina whined. The other girls in the group, her satellites, quickly tried to comfort her.
Danny caught sight of the scowl on Sam's face as she took a step forward. His friend held distain for the popular girls on the best of days, but it was situations like this which really upset her. They didn't care about anyone outside of their group, and often stood by and laughed as the jocks bullied others.
Paulina, who was the unspoken queen of their grade, was often outspoken about girls who she thought was beneath her, but she had also begun her own form of bullying in their sophomore year. She used her beauty to make guys fall for her and give her items. Once she was finished using them, she often publically embarrassed them or had Dash and his cronies throw a few punches. She had tried to go after Danny once, but after encountering his parents and their eccentricities once, she wanted nothing more to do with him.
"Can't I at least get one punch in?" Dash requested as he sized up Danny. "I mean, this is my last year to wail on him."
"You can't argue with that," Zack added as he crossed his arms and leaned against a nearby tree. "Why deny a man a simple pleasure?"
"Fine, but hurry it up," Paulina finally agreed as she and her friends moved to the side.
"You hear her. Grab him," Dash instructed has he pushed Danny backwards. He barely had time to catch himself before his arms were grabbed by two of the jocks.
Before he had a chance to throw his punch, Kwan grabbed his shoulder. "Hey, is this really the best place to do this? That one Ranger wasn't that far behind us."
"So?"
"Your buddy has a point," Sam spat as Tucker tried to hold her back. It was clear she was itching to hit someone in the shin with her combat boot. "If a Ranger catches you assaulting someone, not only could you lose your spot on the football team, you could get jail time."
Before Dash could make his decision, a scream rang out through the area. Everyone glanced around, but it didn't seem as if anyone found anything unusual. "Didn't that sound like Mikey?" Tucker asked after a moment.
"Drop him. That will definitely draw attention we don't want," Dash told his friends. "Mikey was up ahead of us, wasn't he?"
"I think so. Why?" Kwan questioned.
"We should go check on our other punching bag. Make sure he's not too hurt. Besides, maybe we'll learn something we can use to scare him with later. Come on." He beckoned them forward as he began following the trail again. The girls quickly followed him. The jocks holding Danny shared a look before letting him go.
"Hey, are you alright?"
Danny looked up to see Kwan watching him. "Yeah. I know you were trying to help out there. Thanks."
The football player nodded before he ran after his friends. Although Danny didn't exactly trust Kwan, he knew that he was a much kinder person than most of Dash's friends. Kwan really didn't want to be involved with the bullying, but was forced to go along with it for reasons Danny didn't quite understand.
"Do you think we should follow them?" Danny turned to see his friend's responses.
"Absolutely not!" Tucker shouted before Sam could respond. "Dude, didn't you notice that Dash is in one of his moods?"
"You're such a coward, Tucker." Sam grabbed his arm and began pulling him along the path. "He could need our help."
"Or we could get beaten to a pulp too."
"I'm with Sam on this one." When Tucker sent him a look a betrayal, Danny amended, "I mean, we don't have to get close if nothing is wrong, but if they need help, we can go get a Ranger. Didn't Kwan mention there should be one not too far away?"
"Fine, but don't expect me to get killed along with you."
…..
After a few minutes of walking, Danny and his friends first caught sight of Dash and his friends. They seemed to just be staring at something in the woods. The girls were nowhere nearby. Mikey was sitting on the ground at their feet and was crying inconsolably.
"What… what should we do?" Tucker whispered as they hid behind a nearby tree and monitored the situation.
The hair on the back of Danny's neck felt as if it was standing on end. As soon as they got to this area, something felt extremely wrong. "Although this goes against my desire for self-preservation, something's not right."
"You noticed it too?" Sam asked as she stepped out from around the tree and approached the group. "Hey! What's wrong?" Danny and Tucker shared a look before they followed her.
Mikey noticed them first. His glasses were somewhat foggy because of his tears. "Lester…" he choked out.
"What about Lester? Mikey, talk to us." Danny kneeled down so his distraught classmate wouldn't have to look up at him.
"He… he… we lost sight of him for just a moment," Mikey whispered as he grabbed Danny by the arms. His wide eyes almost made him look insane. "He didn't answer when we called him, and we didn't see any signs of him. After… after searching and not seeing him… Jimmy and Clark went off to tell Mr. Lancer. I stayed put just in case… Then… then something fell over there… and… and…" The sob that escaped the boy was somewhere in between a scream and absolute despair.
"What are you talking about? What happened?"
"Danny… I think you need to see something," Sam whispered as she shook his shoulder.
After gently prying Mikey's hands off of him, he stood up and looked at his friends. Both were incredibly pale, which was quite the feat for Tucker due to his naturally dark skin. Sam glanced at him before she pointed at something off the trail. At first, he had no idea what he was supposed to see, but after a moment, a soft dripping sound caught his attention. As he focused on that, he felt his blood run cold.
The dripping was coming from blood falling from a figure in a tree that was about thirty yards off. After a moment, he realized the figure was Lester. It almost looked as if someone had thrown him onto the branches, but with how limp his figure was and the strange pallor of his skin, Danny was convinced he was dead.
The sound of retching caught his attention. He turned to see Tucker wiping his mouth as he weakly straightened his posture. "That's… that's so messed up."
"We… we need to get help," Danny stammered as he glanced at the jocks. They all seemed to be in a trance. He snapped his fingers in front of Kwan's face. "Hey, hey! Come on! Snap out of it." The jock shook his head for a moment and glanced around before stumbling backwards into Dash. That seemed to break the rest of them out of their trance.
After a moment of confusion, Dash spotted Danny and once again grabbed him by the shirt. "Alright, Fenturd, you better have a good explanation of what happened!"
"Get off of me!" he snapped as he wrestled out of Dash's grip. "I don't know what happened either. You got here first, remember? I do know we need to alert the Rangers."
"Dash, what happened to the girls?" Lucas asked as he glanced around before he glared at Danny and his friends. "If you losers did anything to them…!"
"We haven't seen them since we got here," Sam replied as tried to help Mikey stand. He wasn't complying and had opted to stare at the ground. "Tucker, what are you doing? Don't tell me you're taking pictures."
"I am," he shakily told her as he tapped his phone. "I… I still can't get a signal. This way… we have a record of where we are… and, what the?!" As he spoke, another scream broke the silence of the forest.
"That sounded like Star!" Kwan yelled as he took off to investigate.
"Hey, wait up!" The rest of the football players quickly ran after him leaving Danny, Sam, and Tucker alone with Mikey, who still seemed dazed.
"I vote we try to get back to camp." Tucker had put his phone away and was glancing around nervously.
Danny nodded as he and Sam picked up Mikey. His frame was small and lanky, so he thankfully didn't weigh too much. Although he wasn't exactly responding to them, they were able to get him to walk by tugging on his wrist.
The group headed down the path as quickly as possible, but it wasn't fast enough for Danny's liking. The uneasy feeling he had when they first reached the area where they found Lester hadn't left. It felt like they were being watched and followed, and it made him want to run. As uncool as it was, he wanted to run away as fast as possible, but he couldn't leave his friends alone with whatever was lurking out there. He also couldn't just leave Mikey.
A glance at the shocked boy told Danny that he was having a hard time processing exactly what happened to his friend. Although Danny really couldn't say that he and Mikey were friends, he knew the boy enough to know that he and Lester were almost like brothers. It was understandable he couldn't function after witnessing that, but he really did wish the boy would move faster. They needed to get to a safer location, preferably sooner than later.
"Are we going to talk about it?" Sam hesitantly asked as they moved.
"Nah uh. No way. We're still out in the woods with something without any adults around. You saw what happened!" Tucker sounded frantic as he looked around the area.
"It can wait until we get back to camp," Danny agreed as he kept his eyes on the trail. A strange noise caught his attention, and after a moment, he stopped to listen.
"Dude, what are you doing? You can't stop now."
Danny shushed him as he listened. A strange sound, almost like a bird call but almost metallic, was coming from somewhere behind them. He turned to see if he could catch sight of whatever the source was, but he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. After a few moments, the bird call was joined by the sound of rustling wings, but that also sounded almost metallic as there was a strange buzz to it.
"It's back!" Mikey suddenly shouted, causing the rest of them to jump. He then wrestled out of Sam and Danny's grips before he took off down the trail.
"Mikey! Come back! What's back?" Before Danny had a chance to go after him, Sam grabbed his arm and pointed to something in the trees.
A silvery flash caught his attention. As he watched it, he realized it looked like a skeletal bird made from some sort of metal. It finally came to a stop on a tree branch a few yards down the trail from them. Its eyes were an eerie red. After it appraised them, it let out a horrifying screech.
"I see you found the target!" an excited voice rang out from the woods.
Danny and his friends formed a tight circle with their backs on the inside as they scanned the area. No one seemed to be nearby. Other than the sound of the strange bird and their breathing, there were no other sounds. After a moment, a figure emerged from shadows of the forest.
The figure was the size of a young child and was carrying something over its shoulders. As it came closer, they could tell that it looked like a young boy, expect his skin was abnormally white, seemed to have green hair, and it almost seemed like he was glowing.
"Is that Mikey?" Tucker whispered as he pointed to what the strange glowing figure had over its shoulder.
"Get away from him!" Danny shouted, uncertain if it was even able to understand him.
"And what are you going to do about it?" The boy laughed as he watched them. "I was told I could take a playmate if I helped Plasmius get his target, so I'm not giving him back!"
"What should we do?" Tucker whispered as he took a few steps backwards. "I don't know what that thing is, but I don't think that's a person."
"I think you're right, but we need to help Mikey," Danny told him. "But I have no idea how to safely do that." Before he had a chance to make a decision, Sam threw a few rocks at the strange boy. However, they passed through him without any damage.
He stuck his tongue out at the group. "That was mean, but luckily for me, stuff like that can't do any damage." A devilish grin crossed his face as his hand began to glow a sickly green. "Although I'm not allowed to touch Plasmius' target, I'm allowed to have some fun with anyone else who gets trapped."
"Run?"
"Run!" Danny and Sam yelled in response to Tucker's question. The three of them quickly ran off down the trail.
As they moved, the forest around them seemed to grow darker and more menacing as the trail became harder to follow. After what felt like hours, the three of them finally came to a stop in a decently sized clearing as Tucker and Danny had reached their limit.
"Guys, I don't think this is normal." At Sam's strange statement, the boys looked at their surroundings. The trees appeared dead and were a strange and unnatural gray color. The sky above them was a radioactive green mixed in with swirls of a neon purple.
Someone behind them began clapping. They turned to see a figure wearing white approach them from the trees. Instead of being a child like the previous one, this one was clearly an adult male. Its skin was a sickly blue, and its dark hair almost looked like horns.
"You've led me on a merry chase," it told them. Its voice was cultured and confident. Danny caught a glimpse of fangs as it spoke "However, I was only supposed to take one of you. What exactly should I do with the extras?"
"You could let us go. Pretty please?" When Danny and Sam shot Tucker an incredulous look, he quickly defended himself. "What? It doesn't hurt to ask."
"I appreciate your attempt at civility," the creature told him. "However, it that is not something I can easily do. You see, it's fairly difficult to bring over more than one human at once with normal techniques. That bird of Youngblood's is something to behold. Its magic is just subtle enough to distract someone just long enough for one of us to take him or her. I must find out if I can get one of my own."
"Where are we? What are you?" Danny demanded, sounding a lot braver than he felt. This things was terrifying.
"It's rather rude to ask that, but you're clearly frightened, so allow me to explain. "I am called Plasmius, and this is the realm of the dead."

Can you recommend some high school AU frerard or Ray/Mikey fics? :3 thank u
Hi Nonny!
I'm going to make seperate lists for this again. Can't promise the second one will be ready by tomorrow but I'll try ;)
I'm not a big reader of High School AUs, so the second half are fics that looked promising on AO3!
Frank/Gerard High School AUs
In Repair by autoschediastic, 33k, Explicit. "Shit," Frank mutters, and shoves both hands through his hair. He looks around the kitchen like he's gonna find what he should do scratched into the old linoleum, then looks back at the bot. He gnaws on his lip. Fuck it. He already knows what he's gonna do. He's just gotta do it. Getting down on his knees, he braces a hand on the edge of the crate and leans over the bot. It's dressed in a plain white tee and matching drawstring pants like an escaped mental patient. Frank rolls his neck and cracks his knuckles, shaking the ache out of them before carefully laying his palm against its cheek. He's pretty sure his voice is steady when he says, "Activate." Nothing happens. Fucking shitty packaging-- the thing's busted. But Frank keeps his hand where it is, jumping a little when he feels the surge of energy beneath it. The robot's skin goes from room temperature to lukewarm, then warm. Frank watches it open its eyes, the light behind them adjusting until they're a pale sort of brown. It looks at him and asks, "Am I dead?"
Get Naked (I Got a Plan) by autoschediastic, 11k, Explicit. Frank slides his hand all the way up to where Gerard's arm and tentacles fuse at his armpit. The difference between the feel of one beneath his palm and the other is literally the stuff his dreams are made of. His wet dreams.
A State Of Orange by gala_apples, Frank/Mikey, Frank/Gerard, 20k, Explicit. Being a halfling in a red state can sometimes cause issues for Frank Iero. He’s the weakest at Jett Clement High School, and probably the entire state (not counting the meal plans). His moods are oddly stable, as much as he tries to be mercurial. And being able to withstand the sun for up to twenty minutes only allows him more time to be forced into chores. Still, his parents are insane if they think he’s going to be happy about their decision. Frank doesn’t want to move to a Mixed state. How is he supposed to get great friends? How is he supposed to find great food? How is he supposed to have great sex? But Frank doesn’t have a choice. He’s New Jersey bound for the next year, if not longer. He’ll be surrounded by tame vampires who have been nagged out of a sex drive, and humans he’s not allowed to eat. Mixed states suck. Lucky for him, not every person in Jersey sucks.
The Truth Is I'm On My Way by samanthahirr, 6k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank's been drawing on himself since elementary school, up under his sleeves and pant legs where his teachers and classmates won't see; he knows how to color inside the lines. He doesn't need Gerard to do it for him. (A high school AU.)
You Only Hear the Music When Your Heart Begins to Break by Solarcat, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank has high school figured out. His mom has given up arguing about the amount of time he spends in Gerard's basement, and he doesn't actually care if people think it's weird that he and Gerard hold hands in the hallways and go to the bathroom together. The only thing Frank cares about is figuring out why Gerard's suddenly avoiding him -- because what's the point of losing your virginity on Prom Night if you can't tell your best friend about it in the morning?
Smokeless Flame of Fire by tabulaxrasa, 21k, Mature. Frank blinked. "What kind of name for a genie is Gerard?"
to the midnight land by akamine_chan, 24k, Explicit. Being a teenager is hard. Being a Blooded teenager, one with a connection to the Moon and his fur-self, is even worse. He's got to contend with his own hormones, high school, and the fact that he's in love with his best friend. Luckily, Frankie's got the determination to see things through. He's got family, friends, and a community of shifters to lean on, and he's not going to give up. Frankie's not patient, but he's stubborn when he knows what he wants. And he wants Gerard.
Thing-Thing by sinsense, 43k, NC-17. When Gerard signed the admissions paperwork for the Fordhaven School for Boys, he knew he was signing up for four years of sexual frustration. No one was gay at Fordhaven. Gerard was all-too-aware that he would be a virgin until he graduated. In his senior year, though, this stupid gay freshman disproves Fordhaven's straightness, and throws Gerard's entire world off-kilter. Now, in between drawing, avoiding bullies, running an incredibly serious tabletop RP game, failing out of math, and hanging out with friends, Gerard is also busy kind of falling for this asshole who's way too young for him. It's not what he planned on, but it's what's happening. In conclusion: high school sucks.
You'll Always Feel This Way by wakingup, 14k, Not Rated. It's Frank's birthday and he's gonna A) get drunk B) hit on Gerard C) get laid. Yeah, it's definitely going to work out like that. (Spoiler alert: it might not be that easy)
Nothing Comes as Easy as You by rivers_bend, 9k, Explicit. "Um, I've heard, you know, around, that like, there are guys who can get off three times without stopping. And I was, I mean—" god he sounds like a fucking idiot. "Have you ever heard of that?"
Church of Hot Addiction by spleenjournal, 0nlymemories, Frank/Gerard, Frank/Mikey, 36k, Adult. When Gerard Way gets transferred to Our Lady of Peace in Arlington a few weeks into his Senior year, he thinks it's his chance to be cool. Too bad his idea of "cool" is no cooler than it was in 3rd grade, even if there aren't any green tights. (AU of the INO AU, more or less.)
The Marching Band AU by frankiesin, many pairings in a bunch of different works, 150k, General Audiences, Teen And Up Audiences, Mature, Explicit. A bunch of gay teens are in a band and do dumb things while in high school. There will be a lot of pairings, each part can be read without reading the others, and the series is in chronological order.
We're all Okay by rivers_bend, 28k, Explicit. A story in which Frank is not a stalker, Gerard is not a psycho, and Mikeyway is nobody’s boyfriend.
Where Did The Party Go by frenchpirate (Whiskey_n_speed), 16k, Mature. The one where Frank get's a new and nocturnal neighbor, Gerard throws a Halloween party that turns out far from what was expected, Pete wakes up on a strangers couch and Mikey really doesn't want any serenades (but that doesn't mean he isn't getting any).
Miss Congeniality by melusina, 11k, Mature. Gerard pretends to be a girl, Frank and Gerard discover email and Mikey’s good advice goes unheeded.
honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us by orphan_account, 17k, Explicit. You should have raised a baby girl / I should have been a better son. (the unholy union of a high school au and a gender feel)
SKETCH by frnklyiero, 77k, Teen And Up Audiences. "You having a problem with drawing straight?" "I'm having a problem with being straight." Gerard Way happened to be the most fascinating sight in school to Frank Iero perhaps besides Jamia Nestor. Every little detail of his perfect features made Frank itch to sketch them. There are just a few problems: 1) Gerard is probably straight as a ruler, 2) Jamia isn't thrilled that her boyfriend may or may not have been secretly doodling Gerard in his notebook, 3) No matter how much Frank practices, his Gerard sketches still look like eggplants with creepy faces on them.
Save Me (From My Self Destruction) by cyanidepurified, 14k, Teen And Up Audiences. Frank and Gerard are best friends, both are unaware that they're in love with each other. When Frank discovers Gerard's secret, will he be able to save his best friend?
Speeding in a School Zone by 1001cranes, languisity, 16k, Teen And Up Audiences. High school AU where Frank and Gerard are awkward, Pete is romantically confused, Patrick owns, and Bob is a ninja. Pete, the first time we met you proposed to me. I don’t think your heterosexuality was ever all that secure.
The Chasing of Moons by Helena_Hathaway, 110k, Explicit. The biggest dilemma in all of this is that Frank slept with his future husband. Now Frank’s just got to make sure that the future with him stays intact, but it’s not so easy when present day Gerard seems to hate his guts.
Early Sunsets Over Monroeville by FedeLove96, 11k, Explicit. Frank Iero was a junior when he fell in love with Gerard Way, but their love story was just at the beginning.
A Case of Unknown Identity by Helena_Hathaway, 44k, Explicit. Frerard High School AU. Frank is a teenager with only a few friends, one of whom is a charismatic guy who is just like Frank. He might even be falling for the guy, but the only problem is that he’s just a username on a website without a face or a name. The guy goes by 'Watchman' and he’s perfect in Frank’s eyes, he doesn’t even need to meet him to know he’s amazing. Frank also deals with bullies which makes it hard for him to hold onto friends, but things start to become better after he befriends the antisocial kid Mikey, and realizes that Watchman might just go to his school. Watchman might also know a little more about Frank than he’s letting on.
But The Pages Are All Torn and Frayed by blindlyseeking (orphan_account), 55k, Mature. Basically, this is based off of the music video for “I’m Not Okay” and it also includes (but is not limited to) gratuitous mentions of a drunken fascination with a lamp, one evil lacrosse team, two breakdowns in a bathroom, grandmothers with green hair, a couple bruises, and a whole lot of revenge. Enjoy!

COMMISSION MATCH-UP #1
Our very first Match-Up Commission, (squeeeee), is for my AMAZING friend @morte-witch !
Thank-you so much for your support and I sincerely hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it :)
ALSO I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT YOU’D LOVE THIS GIF CONSIDERING I ACCIDENTALLY SPOILED EVERYTHING BY SENDING YOU THIS ATROCITY XD
DISCLAIMER: This is a request for my written opinion. I, of course, do not properly know you and cannot be entirely accurate when judging your personality because of this. I have chosen a specific character based entirely off of my evaluation of the information given to me. Each individual’s personal opinions will vary but this is simply a requested fun use of observatory and literature skills combined.
Tumblr media
MATCH-UP: LEONARDO
WHY:
You have a base connection with both your emotions, character and the environment that surrounds you, seemingly on a level that many don’t quite understand. The fact that you acknowledge these connections and their ramifications implies self-awareness in which you can directly identify your character, your strengths, and weaknesses that you need to improve on.
Now, who else can we think of that has similar attributes and genuinely appreciates others who can understand and operate on a corresponding wavelength?
Appreciating the simplest things, reveling in the quiet and challenging the storm are kindred tokens of both your own and Leonardo’s personality. Even your aesthetics are similar; water (representation of both his color and his technique), the moon, dark colors and East Asian cultural appreciation.
At your core, you and Leonardo are cognate; sharing the same foundations, values, strengths, and weaknesses. While most would argue opposites attract, in order for a relationship to truly work, the couple’s fundamental beliefs and values need to be at least very similar. Quirks, traits, likes and dislikes are what makes up the personality, sure, but it’s what’s at the very center of the other person’s being that captivates someone.
This is not to say that your differences in certain aspects are non-existent. It would undoubtedly be a difficult relationship at times, being so close in similarities but so far away from each other because of the simplest differences. However, even when considering flaws, the ironic oxymoron, ‘your imperfections are perfect for each other,’ serves incredibly well.
STRENGTHS:
1. Your relationship would have a depth to it that is incredibly rare; with the both of you so aware, discussions of simple things that you’re appreciative of wouldn’t seem strange or pointless. There’s genuinity within your conversations of simple observations and positive affirmations of the world around you and life itself. (These conversations are probably where he’d attempt to convince you to learn to meditate.)
2.a. Both of you help each other grow; contrary to popular belief, Leonardo loves to learn- though definitely not in the way Donatello does. Leo craves wisdom and emotional knowledge, and while he struggles with his own emotions, you are very in tune with your own and he would definitely take the chance to learn from you and grow with you.
2.b. In addition to this, we know that Leonardo is incredibly observant, especially with those that he holds romantic feelings for. You can be sure that any cues that you may give, (intentional or not), will be picked up on; discomfort, anxiety, irritation- Leonardo will see it. He notices your difficulties when it comes to interacting with others, and while he struggles with similar issues, he would ensure that he helps you to this best of his abilities. Whether it’s whisking you away from a situation once he spots a cue or it’s subtle encouragement- he’s got your back.
3. Minimal fighting; while there will often be petty tiffs or the occasional full-blown fight, they will be far and few in between. There are rarely misunderstandings between you both and even when things begin to get heated you are a very patient pair of people and generally, that is what proves to be the saving grace of your relationship over and over.
WEAKNESSES:
Leo’s arrogance, stress, and frustration would become overbearing at times. Considering Leo is the leader both within the team and amongst the family, there’s a hierarchical driven arrogance that comes along with it. There will be times where you will disagree on certain things and he simply tries to take the decision by force; using his role as ‘leader’ as his weapon.
He struggles immensely with his emotions and defers to bottling them in an attempt to pretend they don’t exist, so when he does lose control it’s horrible. Leo has never learned to properly cope with his issues and emotions and it is clearly seen within your relationship. During these moods or moments, he is intolerant, explosive and passive-aggressive. When he does try to communicate how he feels with you it never comes out correctly and you discover that you become irritated by his wording and arguments. It puts significant strain on you both and it worries you a little that whenever his control slips he embodies everything you dislike.
HEADCANONS:
Basically just the initial stages of your friendship and romantic integration. Everyone likes their relationships a certain way so touching down on the beginnings is probably the best way to remain accurate.
- Leo’s never been one to initiate casual conversation with anyone outside of his familial circle. In fact, the more he thinks about it, he realizes that even where April and Casey are concerned, he has little to no interactions with them unless it’s out on the field. He never intended to avoid them, he supposes he just never felt the need to connect with them on that particular level.
-Even with this new revelation, he feels fairly comfortable with his introversion. So long as he remains polite, he is generally satisfied with everyone’s lives remaining their own.
Until you.
- Suddenly, he wants to talk; he wants to hear you talk for hours about everything and anything you could possibly conjure. And you do, you talk, just not to him. Never to him. His brothers are more available for conversation, generally the ones to initiate it and make you feel comfortable in their presence. Especially Mikey, the youngest brother basically initiated friendship without your acknowledgment.
- You’ve always wondered about Leonardo, you’ve simply begun to view him as the mysterious leader who wanders the halls; walking with purpose but no particular direction. If you were anyone else you would have already initiated conversations with him, tried to get to know him. Unfortunately, you simply can’t bring yourself to take that risk beyond the polite greetings, his demeanor both drawing you in and warding you off simultaneously.
- Leo has made it his mission to try to talk to you more. He doesn’t exactly know why but you’ve become an itch that he desperately needs to scratch before it drives him to lose focus of his tasks. On the other hand, maybe he does know the reason. Denying his problems or anything that could cause future complications has been his specialty; he wouldn’t surprised if he later discovers he’s been in denial the entire time.
- You’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t say that, as of late, he’s started to freak you out. The turtle would make an appearance out of nowhere, generally at times where his brothers were not in the vicinity, and talk to you. But, that’s not what’s made you apprehensive; it’s the way he’s tried to interact with you.
- Leo would start off with his generic greetings, polite as always, then drag the conversation to something equally as vague. It has always seemed as if he’s frustrated with himself and the energy puts you off a little, making things incredibly awkward. Well, more so.
- The reality is that he knows he’s not making any headway, he doesn’t know how to integrate into having a real conversation with you and the last thing he wants to do is ask you about the weather for the sixth time this week. Finally, you throw him a bone when he asks about the weather (seventh time), and instead of replying with a polite ‘good’, you smile and comment “it’s cleared up enough to see the stars out. The constellations are amazing when you really take the time to look at them.”
- Your first conversation takes off. You find yourselves moving to settle in the dojo, distantly thanking whoever was listening that training was finished for the day. Without the interruptions from his brothers or the ill-timed intervention by Splinter, you both manage to engage in conversations ranging from the sky, to culture to things that you just found interesting.
- You can’t say that the conversation was easy, initially. You discover Leo to be an incredibly intense person and you find yourself questioning every single one of your responses- especially when he pauses to watch you for a brief moment after you finish your sentences. You hate second guessing yourself constantly, it puts you on edge and you find yourself rigid in your seat.
- Luckily, Leo is able to pick up on these cues and scrambles for ways to relax you without outright leaving the room. If he leaves, he knows that it will take him weeks to work up the courage to try this again. He can’t help the heaviness of his presence, when he’s nervous he either rambles like an idiot or shuts down and interrogates instead of conversating.
- Eventually, you catch on to the way he consciously tries to appear less intimidating. The way he leans back onto the counter instead of standing upright, hands on either side of him holding the edge of the bench to support himself. A very casual position that implies an openness. His voice lowers to a softer tone that, to your complete and utter surprise, does something a little funny to your stomach.
- The more he relaxes the more you relax and within ten minutes you both find yourselves laughing along to the conversation. It’s then you discover your similarities in interests.
- After the conversation comes to a close, thanks to Mikey entering the room like a fucking tornado, he nods at you with a small smile and exits quietly. A small tug in your chest makes you raise an eyebrow. Of course, only you would manage to get mildly attached to someone after a single conversation.
- Despite your inner scoldings, you find yourself trying to work up the courage to talk to him in the hallways.
(You never do, you just give him an awkward nod and scuttle past before he has the chance to get a word in).
-The funny part is that, on the other side, Leo has been doing literally everything within his power to have another conversation with you. Everything. Well, everything other than instigating it, of course. He’ll sit down near you, approximately three feet away to avoid discomfort, and wait for you to initiate the conversation. He’ll go to the kitchen exactly 3 minutes after you’ve walked in to try and catch you alone- a plan that always fails because the kitchen is generally hosting at least two people at a time.
- The day of success is the day neither of you suspects. You’ve settled in on the roof of your apartment building, attempting to clear your head by embracing the cool night’s air. After an hour or so of drawing vague figures in the sketchbook you had brought up with you, you simply lie on your back with a huff; analyzing the stars in a hope to disperse the heaviness in your chest.
- That’s where Leo finds you. It wasn’t on purpose, of course. He was on patrol and assigned himself to this particular section of the city. It was a quiet night so far, and whether he’d admit it or not, he was absolutely bored. So when he drops in on a roof with a random lying down on their back he’s not sure whether to immediately turn back or check if they’re dead. Instead, he settles for having a silent heart attack while he stares at the figure on the floor praying somebody would simply airdrop him the answer.
- However, the longer he stares at them the more familiar they seem. Taking a few tentative steps forward, careful to remain in the dark, he realizes it’s you.
- Cue another heart attack.
- Moving into the light, he opens his mouth to say something, praying to whoever is listening that he doesn’t scare the absolute fuck out of you and make this awkward. Instead, the only noise that comes out of his mouth is a wheeze that vaguely sounds similar to your name.
- Instantly, you bolt up into a sitting position, gaze snapping to where he stands frozen. Before a scream rips from your lips you recognize the Leader’s face, despite the ‘deer-in-the-headlights’ expression etched onto it.
- You swear loudly, raising your hand to your chest and flopping back to the ground with wide eyes distantly staring into the night sky.
- Immediately he’s sidled up next to you, apologizing profusely for his rude appearance. Frustrated, you motion for him to sit down beside you and be quiet, in which he grimaces but obeys. He tentatively lays onto his back, completely unsure of whether it’s appropriate or not but the adrenaline in his system tells him it’s worth the risk.
- Both of you are quiet, your hearts settling back from their racing pace to a steady rhythm. When you do decide to talk, you turn your head to the side, observing his profile. Instead of asking why he’s out here, you instead choose to ask him about his views. Does he ever sit down sometimes and just take in the stars above him? Does he ever wonder about all the unexplored possibilities of life?
- He tells you that he does, that on nights where his responsibilities get too heavy he lies on his shell and stares at the stars; almost hoping he’d get an answer from them. Then he turns to face you, heart beating beneath his shell.
“I do wonder about the unexplored possibilities, but, lately I’ve been trying to explore them.”
You turn to look at him, heart leaping into your throat when you catch his gaze. “What do you mean?”
He clenches his jaw, wondering whether he should get it wired shut and communicate purely by sign language for the rest of his life. At least, then, his mouth wouldn’t talk before his brain could tell him to shut up.
“As in, I’m exploring one right now,” he breathes, eyebrows furrowing slightly as he takes in your features.
“Do you make it practice to scare the shit out of all of your unexplored possibilities?” You joke, unsure of how to appropriately respond to what’s beginning to sound like a confession of interest. “Because while it works for this possibility, I’m not sure about the others.” Your heart is literally trying to claw it’s way out of your chest at your lame attempt to flirt, but the way his lips quirk at your comment eases the nervousness.
“No,” he smiles, “I generally reserve that for the ones that could actually lead somewhere.”
“You think this possibility could lead somewhere, then?” You question softly, eyes moving to take in the stars above you once more.
“If you’d be interested in exploring it with me, then I’m certain it could,” he replies. You can feel his gaze on the side of your face and you pluck up the courage to turn back and face him. Instead of the intensity, you were expecting, his expression is gentle. There’s no pressure on you to answer the way he hopes you do, it’s an olive branch.
With that realization, you smile. “Then by all means, let’s see where it could lead.”

What do you think of TUFF Puppy? I see a lot of people give it flack for one reason or another, but do YOU think that’s warranted? Would you recommend the show at all? Hopefully that’s not a loaded questions. Thanks!
I was able to watch the show with my free 1-month trial on Hulu (as opposed to buying the episodes on Amazon or something), so that’s always nice, and it was a good way to keep entertained during my study breaks this semester.
I previously wrote out my general thoughts about “T.U.F.F.” in THIS post just after I finished my binge-watchif you’d like to read that too. I can expand on some thoughts in more detail more below the cut.
“T.U.F.F. Puppy” isn’t the first show that pops into my head as a recommendation for its genre (“WordGirl” is the superior crime-fighting cartoon in my mind). When it comes to secret agents, I do enjoy a good “Bruno the Kid” for its wit, slow burn character development, and the fact that some of its villains legitimately die. And when it comes to cartoons that really explore animal behavior and what it would be like to live in an anthro animal world, I’d point first to “My Gym Partner’s a Monkey.”
But for what it’s worth, “T.U.F.F. Puppy” was enjoyable. It didn’t feel like a repetitive Monster of the Week show and it had its share of fun and engaging plots. There were some worldbuilding elements I really enjoyed (such as laws protecting endangered species - including villains - and the aquarium doubling as prison for aquatic criminals). There were some fun animal behaviors that I enjoyed seeing anthropormorphized, such as Kitty bringing people dead mice to express affection and the Chief (who is a flea) sneaking drinks of Keswick’s blood when he gets hungry. Many of the jokes were creative and worked for me- for example, a background character ended up committing crimes solo for a day because his usual partners in crime were on jury duty.
It is a show aimed at 7-year-olds, so it has its share of simplistic characterizations, crude humor, and a preference for action over long-term character development. And blood. There will be blood. There are a few continuity issues as well, but they’re pretty minor details. If you’ve enjoyed the other Hartman shows and are itching for something to watch this summer, it’s a fun choice if you can find it for free. I will say that now that I’ve watched it, it’s fair game for headcanons and ‘fic allusions.
I’ve been re-watching the series with my little brother (skipping around to see my favorites instead of going chronologically this time) and it’s been enjoyable. He’s gotten really into it and we like quoting random lines at each other (There’s an entire song about how to defuse a nuclear bomb that we’re particularly fond of).
The way I see it, if you go into it with an open mind, you’ll enjoy it, and if you go into it looking for reasons to dislike it, you’ll find them. I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks now and I think that “T.U.F.F.” might actually be my second favorite of the Hartman shows. I’m more biology-minded than tech-minded and worldbuilding-oriented than action-oriented. I could never get interested in much about “Danny Phantom” except Youngblood psychology, and as much as I adore Mikey being a manipulative narcissist, the rest of “Bunsen Is a Beast” is a little hit or miss for me.
I enjoyed how “T.U.F.F.” really drew me into the world. If you watch the show starting from Episode 1, you learn everyone’s names extremely quickly. That means every major character at T.U.F.F., every single villain, and every henchman every villain has. I believe the exteriors (and some interior rooms) of every major character’s home were seen within the first half of Season 1, except Keswick’s which was seen in Season 2. We even learned the streets of several major locations. Details like that helped strengthen my belief in the world and follow along without getting lost. Villains were often defeated through clever plots rather than just punching them into submission, which was nice too, and they were a nice blend of being goofy and legitimately threatening.
Feel free to skip anything containing the Caped Cod, though, because he’s a piece of work and you’re not missing much.
Character-wise, I would have liked to see more female characters, and more villains too. One of the awesome things about “WordGirl” is that is has a truly massive pool of villains to draw from, and they’re all fleshed out in lovely shades of moral gray. In “T.U.F.F.” you will get the same few villains over and over again, so you’d better learn to like them. Some of the villains didn’t appeal to me, while others are fascinating from a psychology / writing perspective.
I wasn’t very interested in Snaptrap (the show’s main antagonist) during my first watch. He’s your typical evil megalomaniac, but he’s also dumber than bricks and doesn’t have a lot of redeeming qualities to choose from. During my second watch, however, he’s grown on me. I’ve realized that I like him more when I listen to what he says instead of overthinking what he does. He’s probably the funniest character in the entire show, and has a whole slew of quirky lines like “If I’m so dumb, why have I been getting away with slowly poisoning you?” and “I love our new crib! It was an impulse buy. (Gasp!) We should steal a baby to put in it!” One of his quirks is that ambiguity trips him up, so he’s easily confused and has a lot of quasi-insightful thoughts about mundane things… it’s hilarious.
Snaptrap’s not that bright, but he’s incredibly impulsive with a knack for building destructive weapons and promptly losing them. He also has a streak of affection for kids and is a surprisingly good parent when put in that position (He’s absolutely the type who would encourage his kids to follow their dreams and would support them every step of the way, which is an interesting quality for a villain). Literally the first thing he did when he realized he’d accidentally cloned himself was send his clone into the world to live the happy life he didn’t get to have. He grows on me more and more each day. He’s fun.
I like the Chameleon (the second main antagonist of the show) a lot. I favor neutral characters, and the Chameleon tends to base his loyalties on the kindness others show him. Sadly for him, both the good guys and the bad guys find him clingy and annoying, so he ends up ping-ponging back and forth between whichever side he believes will cause him the least amount of pain (When he knows he’s upset powerful enemies, he’ll try to hide in either jail or witness protection to avoid facing consequences).
His motives for most crimes are hilariously petty. He’ll target vacation spots where he had a bad experience or attempt to burn the whole city because he thinks the heating company takes advantage of him for being cold-blooded. He’s the type of villain who commits international crimes purely to earn the “international criminal” bragging rights, but he’s also the type of villain who will drive random strangers to the airport mid-crime attempt despite it being out of his way. He’s described himself as someone who “doesn’t always make the best choices, but you just can’t help rooting for anyway.”
The Chameleon is arguably the smartest of the main villain trio, but his weakness is that he’ll let his “friends” walk all over him in a desperate attempt to maintain one-sided friendships. In Season 2 he got himself tangled in a terribly abusive relationship with his girlfriend and is completely in denial that she’s only interested in him for his money. He’s exactly the type of quirky villain I’m interested in. I’d love to tap inside his head for a ‘fic or two.
The third main villain, Bird Brain, isn’t one of my favorites. I did enjoy a lot of the minor villains, such as the members of F.L.O.P.P. (the Fiendish League of Potential Perpetrators) who think they’re way more evil than they really are. Meerkat is particularly interesting. He’s obviously in the criminal business for fame rather than fortune, but planning isn’t his strong suit. He can organize a get-together, put together an evil lair, scout for useful weapons, he’s great at pep talks, he has connections- he can do EVERYTHING on the spectrum to put a criminal organization in motion, except actually think up ambitious plans. He works so hard, but he’s his own worst enemy.
He’s like an evil secretary. He really needs a boss to design plans for him and keep him on track and pat him on the head and tell him he’s doing a good job. If Snaptrap ever took him into D.O.O.M. (and listened to him), he’d have organization and Meerkat would have muscle. Seeing ‘kat run with the big kids for a day would be interesting, I think.
Anyway, there’s a nice handful of engaging characters in the show and some fun episode plots as well. The worldbuilding is decent, though there’s still room for headcanons to expound upon. I’d recommend it to anyone who thinks they might like it, because if you have a good attitude, you’ll see it as a good show. It has its ups and downs, but it’s cute and clever overall. There are three seasons worth of episodes (Seasons 1 and 2 have 50 individual episodes each) so if you watch it, you’re sure to find something in there you enjoy!

CANONFIC: A Return To Earth
It was as if she was blinded one second, and the next her world was a swirling mass of colours again.
She had just been in the bar, lining up the 9-ball while taunting Ash that he was going to lose and be stuck on angel-banishing duty until their next match. Her palms had been slightly sweaty and the smell of marijuana smoke as the mulleted genius has let out a stream of smoke above her head. Jo had just lined up the shot and started the follow through before her memory went blank.
Next thing she knew, her vision had been filled with nothing but bright white, so white it felt like she had never been seeing before.
And then she was here, blinking around at her new surroundings. There were sounds, voices but none familiar, and her back hurt where she was sitting up against the wall behind her. The floors beneath her were brand new floor boards, crisp and flat as if they’d only been installed in the last few years and had no heavy foot traffic or wear before.
Pulling her legs in under herself as she struggled to her feet, Jo let out a gasp noticing the dark, rust-coloured stain covering the entire front and splashing down the thighs of her jeans. Eyes widening, she recognised the bloody shirt she was now wearing too, all torn and ripped as it had been in the last moments that she had seen it just three years earlier. Holding out her arms, Jo’s surprise was dimming as she recognised the green jacket as the same from that fatal hunt as well. Shifting her feet, Jo looked around her quickly before shrugging the mostly undamaged jacket off and holding it in front of herself, covering up the dried blood stains as effectively as she could.
Looking about the space, it seemed familiar but completely foreign at the same time. The floors were brand new, the walls bright and clean, the shelves all new but clearly second hand at the same time. Nothing was what she remembered except for the shape of the space as Jo made her way through the racks of the now re-opened hardware store. It had to be the same store, she thought as she looked out the window and recognised the street she had been laid prone by Meg’s hellhounds in.
Winding her way through the store’s shelves she waited for the friendly looking older man manning the counter to move out and begin to assist an elderly looking woman asking about screw drivers to make her move - rushing behind the counter, opening the till and tearing out as many notes as she could, as well as palming a few pens and note pads. Just as the man appeared to be finishing, Jo ducked back out and ran straight out the door into the street. Her feet were moving fast, and everything felt more real than she could ever remember Heaven feeling like, but she was sure this was still just someone’s memory she’d accidentally been drawn into, it had to be.
Making her way down three buildings away and ducking into an alleyway without being spotted by the infuriated shop keeper she could hear screaming behind her, Jo moved over to the wall and began drawing out her passage sigils to open the doorways back to the Roadhouse to give Ash a piece of her mind. All because she was beating him at pool.
When the first did nothing, no doorway opening up, she moved onto the second with a frown. It did not glow as she finished the last line, and nothing appeared to happen again. And then she tried the next, and the next. Nothing was working and she was stuck in some memory far from home where she should be.
Scowling, Jo chewed nervously upon her bottom lip before looking about the alley as if something would come to her.
Moving out of the alleyway once the shouting had died down, she made her way along the street itself, looking about at what had been an abandoned and slaughtered town when she had last been in Carthage, Missouri, in confusion. There was no sign other than a slight charred look to some street lamp posts out front the hardware store that anything bad had ever happened in the town.
Making her way down the street, she spotted a second-hand store taking up the entire ground floor of the corner building across the street. Running across, dodging around traffic, Jo looked at the cash she had managed to swipe - just under $300 - with a short nod before stuffing it back in her back pocket and making her way into the store.
“Excuse me, ma’am,” She said, approaching the slightly older woman - she must have been in her late fifties, and probably a volunteer if she friendly smile that had not been worn down by years of retail work was anything to go by - behind the counter with an awkward smile. “I have completely mind blanked, could you tell me what the date is? I was supposed to meet my mom on the 12th here and she’s not here and my phone just died.”
“Oh sweetheart, you’re way off. It’s-” As the woman recited the date, Jo’s ears felt like they were ringing as she realised just how far off she was. It was months since the explosion, or months before, she couldn’t quite tell.
“Thanks so much, guess I would lose my head if I didn’t have it screwed on proper!” Jo laughed, nodding to the woman as she moved away from the counter and along the racks of clothes. She kept an eye on the woman at the front, before making her way over when the older lady moved off to straighten something in the toy section of the store. There was a laptop open on the counter, and twisting it about, Jo bit back a shout seeing the date of 2011 staring back at her. She was almost three years out of date right now.
Biting down on her lip again, Jo let out a shaky breath and moved back towards the women’s clothing area, pawing through the racks in a blur and pulling out the first few things she came across before rushing towards the back of the store where there appeared to be a change room.
Latching the door behind her, tossing the light blue shirt and jean short-shorts she had seemingly grabbed onto the rickety looking seat as she looked about the small space - and approached the mirror as she took in her dishevelled but clean appearance. She looked exactly like she had when she’d stepped out of her mom’s car that morning as they entered Carthage; could almost believe it was the same day if it weren’t for the tears and blood stains on her shirt and jeans.
Running a hand over her hair, Jo pulled out the pen she’d stolen and quickly drew on the mirror, knowing they tended to work as better mediums for such sigils and summoning than the patchy, worn walls of the changing room would do with all the crumbling paint flecks. She marked out the lines carefully to only draw on the one angel she thought could possibly help make heads or tails of what was going on. The last time they had spoke he’d given her the symbol and had promised he’d try harder resisting the impact of the monstrous Mother running about. It might have been a bad idea, but she didn’t really have any better ones at that moment.
“God I hope you’re somewhere you can help me, Mikey.” Jo murmured to herself as she finished the lines with a final flourish before she cut her palm with the jagged latch of her belt and pressed the bleeding mark against the centre of the symbol. “I really hope..”
“Jo…” The deep voice behind her didn’t even make her jump as Jo sagged in relief against the cold mirror’s surface with a relieved sigh, eyes closed.
“Oh thank God.” Jo replied, blinking her eyes open and locking immediately on the dark haired man standing behind her with an almost blank look on his face. Rubbing a hand across her face as she stood up straight and turned to face the archangel without a care, Jo smiled at him and gestured about herself with one hand. “Hey, do you know what…is going on? Where am I and why am I here? Is this.. is this the real world?” She almost hissed the last part out, uncertain if voicing the idea aloud would make it real and just what that would mean.
Michael took a step forward towards her, his footfalls sounding for once - something Jo blinked at realising she’d never really experienced his presence in reality, always simply as a projection of himself, tactile enough but missing those nuances and weight of real existence - in the small space as he moved the four feet between them from one end of the change room to where she was at the other. “Yes, Jo, you are in the real world. I have made you whole again and given you your life back.”
“Wha- you did what?” Jo blinked in surprise at that, tilting her head to look up at him before shaking her own. “Why on earth would you do that?”
“It was willed for you to return. It was willed, and so I made it so.” The words should have sounded cold as he spoke, but Jo couldn’t help but smile hearing the slight warmth that bled through in his tone, the same soft look she would get from him spread across his face. “Are you not pleased to be given another opportunity to make an impact, Jo?”
At that, Jo laughed and scratched at her stomach where the dried bloody shirt was itching her sensitive skin, the memory of her flesh being torn apart. Tugging the shirt up to look down, she smiled wider seeing the flat, unmarred flesh there. Blinking in surprise when she noticed that the other marks, like the burn that had been just above her navel from accidentally burning herself as a child helping her mom with a batch of cookies, Jo tore her shirt off without any thought to the other’s presence, looking at her back for any of the marks she’d developed over the years. None were there, she was as clear and unmarked as a new born babe. Blinking in surprised she noticed all of the tattoos she’d accumulated were missing too - the oak tree, the birds and the dark end of her anti-possession tattoo that would poke out under her hair line on the back of her neck were all gone.
“I made you whole, Jo. You’re brand new and ready for a great purpose.” The words made her jump, having forgotten the other was there at all as she caught his eye in the mirrored reflection before she saw his hands reach and grasp her shoulders gently. “I am so glad it was you that was chosen. I am quite fond of you, and you are so spirited. Made perfect in every way now for the task.”
“Uh, Mikes, not to be ungrateful for the whole… resurrection thing. I know that’s kinda a special-people only thing, but,” Jo frowned up at him as she turned her head back to face him, blinking in surprise as the archangel was a lot closer than he had been before and his hands held her shoulders almost too tightly. His face was closer to her too, and raising a brow, she tried to shrug his hold off of one shoulder gently without any success. “Uh, what do you mean purpose and task?”
“Why, to be the next Mother of course.”
That stopped her dead cold, a shiver running along her spine and goosebumps breaking out across her bare skin as the archangel stepped closer, pushing her back against the cold mirror behind her. The cold surface however was not the cause of her shivers as she looked up at him, his face closer to her own again and as she opened her mouth to ask what he meant but that horrifying statement, her lips were covered by his instead.
Squeaking, Jo tried to tug out of his grip and jerked her head back harshly, turning away from his dispassionate look, eyes darting about the small space.
“Mikey, what the fuck.” She hissed the words out, keeping her head to the side as she took in the rickety chair with her intended replacement clothes to the left, and then nothing else at all in the small space she could use. “What..is this all about?”
“Sweet little Joanna,” The other said, that warm tone slipping and instead the slightly cold tone she had come to associate with the last time they had spoken since the arrival of Eve, the Mother of Monsters. Michael’s voice was so familiar but not at all the gentle, kind tone he would use with her before, and his grip on her chin as he let go of her right shoulder was more forceful than she knew he would usually use on a human such as herself. “You’ve been chosen by my Mother to do something incredible. You have been reborn, and remade, and reconstructed in such a way for the task itself - through her powers and my own - to be the vessel for her greatest achievement.”
“I thought that was all those other monsters.” Jo bit the words out, eyes darting between each of his own, unable to focus on just one as she tried to move even fractionally further back while he kept a firm grip on her face and other shoulder. Her right hand, still holding the uncapped marker, gripped tighter on the pen as the only thing she could do. Jo knew better than to try to throw a punch at an angel without breaking herself. “I thought she hated me.”
“She’s been watching you, Joanna. She’s watched you, and she’s watched me, and she’s got plans to make the final greatest piece.” Michael’s thumb stroked her jaw, and unlike the comforting feeling it had brought in past, it felt wrong and like the precursor to some greater horror. Eyes wide, Jo let out another high pitched noise of confusion as the archangel pressed his lips to hers again a moment later, a lot more forcefully than he had before. Whining and trying to pull back, it’s only a few seconds before Michael pulls back and continues his wide eyed stare at her. “Angels are strong, but there is something more powerful but it requires something special to be able to achieve successfully without catastrophic failure. And even more so for it to be with an archangel.”
Jo’s brain screamed at her at that point as his words started to click in her mind. “Are… Michael, what has happened to me? What..did you bring me back for?”
“You’re to birth the next monsters, Joanna, the mother of nephilims.”
“What the fuck, there is no way that I’ll do that!”
“You do not really have a say in this any more.” Michael responded, his hands moving into her hair as he had done many a time before, pushing the loose waves near her face back with a little more force than previously before holding her head tightly in the one position. Jo bit her lips tightly, hoping against hope that he wouldn’t lean in for them again. “Mother chose you due to my fondness, and we shall create the strongest force the world has ever seen through my Grace and your…new form.”
“Michael,” Jo growled the name out, a cold look crossing her face as she looked back up into his equally stony one. “What did you and that bitch do to me?”
Her head knocked harshly into the mirror behind her, pain blooming on her forehead where her skin broke and bled, flecks of red on the now cracked mirror behind her as Michael crushed her against it. She had forgotten he reacted so poorly when his Mother was insulted.
The next moment, his fingers touched her forehead and the pain receded, her eyes wide and concerned while she tried valiantly to pull away from him. It felt so wrong for him to hurt her and then heal her in turn, so wrong for him to have the power to change her body. And Jo felt herself shudder as he spoke, revealing just how much he had changed. “Your previous form would not be able to survive the process, nor support and allow the safe birth and continued breeding necessary as it was. This has been fixed now. You will be safe in all ways as you provide us with the offspring.”
“And who is us, Michael.” Jo gritted the words out, her free hand twisting as she realised she’d have no chance to escape easily without some other angel’s interference or even a demonic one. If only she had called someone else, maybe she could have denied any of this longer. She had a feeling she knew who he meant, and glaring back at him, she wanted him to confirm just how much control the other now wielded over him.
“Why, you will provide Mother the young she needs to fulfil her wishes. I am to help you with that.”
“That’s what I thought.” Growling in response, Jo twisted her wrist painfully as she thought of a way out of this situation finally, pushing off the cap of the pen with her thumb while she tried to keep his attention off of her movements. Shaking her head, loosening his grip on her hair, Jo snarled back. “What happened to you, Michael..You can’t seriously want this. You know what those things are, you know your Father flooded the world to destroy them-”
“I flooded the world, Joanna.” His grip was on her throat, pushing her back against the mirror as he spoke, the other hand moving from her shoulder now to press her hip back against it as well as he crowded against her. The idea of personal space had always been lacking, and even more so now she could tell he had been commanded as such. Michael tilted his head to one side before speaking softly to her, hand moving from her neck to her cheek, stroking it with the back of his fingers in such a gentle way she almost thought he may be himself again. “I flooded it on my Father’s order, but he has gone, and now Mother is here to take his place. I know this is a hard ask, but I care for you Joanna, and I will ensure you are cared for through the process if you do not fight it. This is your duty, now.”
“I know you think that..” Jo mumbled, twisting her hand and scraping the end of the pen blindly and with as deliberate and calm a moves as she could against the mirror behind herself in a familiar pattern as she spoke. It was muscle memory by this point, having traced the symbols out for years within the confines of Heaven, banishing angels left and right as she had begun her own movements against the forces trying to interfere with Earth and her friends. As she moved for the last mark, Jo looked back up at the somewhat pleased look on the other’s face before the last line was placed and the white light flooded from the symbol behind her. “But I’m not goin’ to do that, and I will stop her.”
“Jo.” It was the last thing she heard as the changing room was flooded with light from behind her and the hold on her disappeared along with the archangel himself.
The next ten minutes was covering the stall with anti-angel symbols and an entire array of protections on the mirror itself - easy for the owner of the store to clean away when Jo managed to come up with another solution - and changing into the spare clothes.
As she sat down on the old chair, Jo sighed and rubbed a hand over her face before she uncapped her pen again and started the marks to summon her next port of call, the next person she knew could help her out and may just be able to protect her against the might of Michael and Mother.
She sighed quietly as she began the ritual to summon him to her, and smiled painfully when the Scottish voice broke through the quiet changing room, “What trouble have you gone and gotten yourself into now, Princess?”

The Contaminated Chapter 4
Warnings: Just some minor swearing
I was very excited to meet Rose. Hearing of another girl that was alive and had he own free will had me hurrying to pull the clothes onto my wet body. even though I was distracted with my excitement, I couldn't stop thinking about my encounter with Frank. He was very... Polite and was not hungry for a women like most men were now that the apocalypse has been brought on. He made my stomach flutter as I thought about him. I didn't even know him.
"It's just been too long." I said rolling my new socks on before slipping my sneakers on. It has been a long time. I haven't had a boyfriend since I was 16 and still in highschool, let's just say that was a waste of time a good memories about all men. But, Frank was changing them. In the 10 minutes that I got to spend with him he has been on my mind.
I looked in the mirror one last time. I didn't know when I would again and it was good to keep a clean image of myself in my head. It's kind of like looking into the past, this is how I would look going to school or out to a family dinner. Family. I haven't seen them since they left to go up north for a family thing. I chose to stay home for work and to watch the house. In the beginning I spent the whole time wondering when they would come back or if they would. I stopped after two weeks.
I looked back up and realized tears had begun to fall down my face at the thought of my family. I wonder if they found a safe zone? My dad was always going on about the end of the world but, we never listened. At least my mom and sister's didn't, I choose to take lessons on how to shoot, how to apply a tourniquet, and what not. I wiped my tears and straightened out my clothes, waiting for my red face to go back to normal.
I expected to walk out of the bathroom to find Gerard or even Rose. What I didn't expect was Frank leaning against the wall parallel to me, eating an apple and quietly speaking to himself. I was so shocked I almost closed the door again and waited till he left. I didn't though, I kept my cool. For the most part.
"Oh, hey. I was just waiting here so nobody else walked in or anything." He said with a smile. His half eaten apple was forgotten and clutched in his right hand.
"Oh, thanks!" I said beaming back at him. The fact that he stayed to watch the door on his own made the butterflies take flight in my stomach again.
"It's really no problem. Is there anything you need before I take off?" He said bringing the apple up to his mouth again. His lips were thin and a pale pink. They curled around the edges and made it look like he was permanently smirking. They looked so soft even though they were rough and chapped. When he was done taking a bite of the apple he wiped away the tart juice that rolled down the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand and that broke me out of my trance.
"Um, could you show me to Rose? I'd really love to meet her." I said turning off the light to the bathroom and shut the door. I had cleaned a bit before I had left so I wouldn't feel guilty when someone else had to go and clean it later. Frank's adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed and he nodded.
"Sure, if you're ever looking for Rose, try the art section first. That's like her corner of the store. Ray's always in the prescriptions, Mikey's by the graphic tee's, Gerard's mostly by the art stuff too, and I'm always up at the front guarding the doors with Bob." Frank said gesturing around the store with his hands. I noticed that while Gerard kept his things at the front of the store, Frank had everything with him. His rifle was strapped to his shoulder as well as his bag.
"Oh, I heard you had all the idea's and stuff for the checkout lines and stuff. That looks pretty sick." I said smiling as a soft blush burst into his cheeks.
"It's really nothing. I've always wanted to be an architect and Gerard said we needed stations and a safe place to sleep. It sucks though, I can't sleep in there. My own work and I can't enjoy it." He said dramatically. His tattooed hand fell over his heart in mock sadness, and for the first time in years I laughed. The noise sounded dry and unfamiliar as it hit my ears. I stopped in shock and stared at Frank in awe. "Are you alright?" He said turning serious when he saw that I had stopped.
"Nothing, it's just I haven't laughed in a long time." I said putting my hand up to my throat lightly.
"Where have you been all my life?I live to serve thee. I shall make thee laugh forever." He said bowing poshly. I laughed again and water prickled at the edges of my eyes for the third time today. It felt amazing to laugh again. It was like a spark had his dead leaves and it had erupted into a forest fire in my stomach. It was almost nostalgic.
"I... Thank you." I said holding my stomach.
"Stick with me kid, We're going places." He said throwing his arm around my shoulder once he was close enough to me to do so. He continued walking with me glued to his side now that his arm was resting on my shoulders. It almost felt like a hug and it was very unfamiliar yet again.
As the aisles past me I could see that they were stocked and full, almost waiting for customers to come in and spend money on them again. They television sets could be seen from the distance and the dust they had collected over the years had turned the once black screens a beige color. Most of the T.V's that could be reached had smiley faces or curse words written in the dust. Frank had said that they needed to stop looking so gross so he had done that. From that information I could already tell he was the jokester of the group.
"Here is the lovely Rose. Be careful she might try and tackle you. She hasn't seen another girl in a long time either. Have fun!" He said pointing down the aisle to reveal a girl sitting with a sketchbook in her hands. She was scribbling away with her pencil as she shook her foot back and forth. Her tongue was stuck out in concentration dn her eyebrows were drawn to the middle of her forehead.
Her short, curly brown hair framed her face as she looked down at her picture. Big framed glasses hung low on the tip over her nose and it was almost like she was so in the zone that she was forgetting to push them up. The black t shirt she was wearing hung loose on he body and her black ripped jeans showed scars and recent cuts that decorated her pale knees. She wore black converse that were tied tightly around her ankles and double knotted in the front so they were secure if she had to start running.
"Frank, go away I'm busy." She said as she scribbled on.
"You have a visitor." Frank said in a secretary like voice. I stifled a giggle as Rose just shook her head and cracked a small smile.
"If it's Gerard tell him that I'm very busy right now." She said shifting around on the cushion she was settled on.
"Actually her name is Gracie." Frank said giving me a soft side glance.
"Her!" Rose's head immediately shot up at the word and she stared at me in awe. She dropped her pencil and sketchbook and stood up quickly. "Oh my gosh. You're a girl!" She said walking fastly over to where Frank and I stood.
"Well, I hope so." I said looking down at my outfit. When she reached me she enveloped me in a tight bear hug, making me squeak and gasp for a proper breath.
"Okay, Rose don't kill her. It's only her first day." Frank said shoving his hand in between us both. Rose backed away but still was in arm's length. She smiled at me like I was a million dollars in check that she had just won.
"I'm sorry it's just I haven't seen a girl in... such a long time. Okay Frank, go away I'd like to speak with Gracie." Rose said flapping her hands in Frank's direction.
"Okay, okay. Just, don't kill her." Frank said as he turned around to leave, giving me a small smile before fully turning around to walk away.
"So, are you okay? How did you get here?" She asked sitting back down, motioning for me to follow.
"I'm alright now. The guys brought me back when they found me in a car wreck." I explained sitting on the floor with her.
"Wow. Were you all alone out there or did they bring more back?" She asked picking up her sketchbook and pencil again.
"Yeah, I was alone since the beginning. It's funny I worked in a Walmart just like this one back when it all started." I said looking at the art aisle. The style and layout was the same as the one I had back home but, wasn't every Walmart like this?
"Woah. Were you caught in it when they attacked?" She asked while scribbling on her page again. I could vaguely make out a head of hair and an eye with the way the book was tilted but it looked pretty good from what I could see.
"No, My boss Tyler, gave us free shit and let us go home. He told us about the virus and I had time to board up the house before it officially hit. I watched the news until the screen went black and the power went out. It was fucking scary." I said fiddling around with my hands so I had something to do. I really missed art and seeing all of the supplies made my fingers itch to pick them up.
"Here," She said taking a pencil and a book off the shelf. "You draw?" She asked tossing it in my direction.
"I used to before all this shit happened. It's been so long I'm pretty sure I lost all the talent." I said chuckling. The black book was a bit dusty and smelt of really old book but when I opened the page it looked good as new.
"You can write your name on the cover. So if you keep it here Gerard will know not to fuck with it. You can keep it there's plenty more here and in the back stock room." She said motioning towards the back of the store with her pencil.
"Awe, thanks!" I said writing my name in the inside before putting my pencil on the page. I let my hand follow the face I made in my mind. I had made a couple mistakes as Rose and I talked. We talked about high school and our last relationships, what we did before the break out. it was like having a regular sleepover. It was crazy how much we were alike. We both listened to alternative rock and we liked to draw and sing. It was good to talk to someone who understands what it's like being alone.
"I was all alone in this store for months before Gerard and the gang showed up looking for shelter. They looked like a shit show, man. Covered in blood and dirt. There was a hoard after them and they seemed pretty nice. I put blind faith in people a lot. But, I helped them take the shufflers out and they offered to leave but, I asked them to stay. Being alone can drive you mad." She said flipping to a new page before starting again.
"I know what it feels like to be lonely. It sucks." I said finishing up the last details in my drawing before holding it out to look at it. I blushed at who I had put down and quickly flipped it to a new page.
"It really does."

BUNNY "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING LAURA?!" Raph yells at me, as I hide behind Donnie. Never mind the fact that one of the foot clan soldiers injected a little bit of purple ooze into me, that only partially mutated me. If I received the full injection I would be fully mutated. "GET OUT HERE LAURA! I MEAN IT!" Raph continues and moves to where I'm hiding. My eyes grow wide in a panic, my rabbit ears drooping even more with shame, embarrassment and fear as Raph comes towards me. I scoot closer to Donnie and move to his side as Raph comes up behind Donnie, glaring with anger. Here I am, a 22 year old acting like a child in trouble and afraid of a 17 year old. Raph, a massive hulk with bulging muscles, towers over me by a few feet. My fluffy tail twitching nervously as I lightly back away as he continues to come closer to me. "Raph calm down. Your scaring her," Leo walks up to Raph and places his hand on his brother's shoulder in hopes of calming him down. "Don't you dare stick up for her, Leo. She needs to understand that what she did put us in a bind and made it worse. I never wanted her to come along in the first place because something like that could and did happen. At least April has more sense than her," Raph growls at Leo, pointing at me in the process. His words hit me, as if I just received a punch to my chest. I have been in love with Raph for a couple of months and had kept it a secret from everyone. April, my childhood friend, figured it out and promised to keep it a secret. Raph and I are like day and night. I'm shy, get embarrassed very easily, and to top it off I'm a star wars nerd. Raph on the other hand is hot tempered, lifts weights, trains, and loves to fight. For some reason or another I just fell in love with him even though I get intimidated by him. "Guys if she didn't do what she did, we would all have been toast," Mikey chimes in hoping to calm the situation down. Everyone stands there having a stare down. I look at Raph to Leo, seeing the tension rise. Raph breathing deep, causing his nostrils to flare. I slowly slink away not wanting to be in the middle. "You stay right where you are Laura," Raph pins me with his glare. I freeze, cringing under his glare. I look up at him with a guilty expression. Donnie moves closer to me and wraps his arms around my stiff shoulders," I think we all need to calm down. Raph what matters is that we all made it back in one piece and are okay." Raph turns on Donnie, seeing his arm around my shoulders didn't make him feel any better," for now, but what about next time huh? She ain't going with us no more or going out! She'll only get herself killed and make things much worse!" Tears begin to well up in my eyes, but I refuse to shed those tears and instead I finally look Raph in the eyes," IF I DIDN'T DO WHAT I DID, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR BETTER YET CAUGHT! WHAT THEN HUH?! I'M NOT SORRY FOR STEPPING IN LIKE I DID!" I glare as hurt laced with anger comes out of my mouth. Raph straightens his back and shoulders, making himself taller, his face growing red at my defiance. Donnie gently begins to draw me behind him as Raph moves closer to me. I watch him, never letting my gaze waver from his, no matter how much I want to look and run away right now. "You're not sorry?" His voice rough and low. "No I'm not," I say quietly my tough act dissolves in a second. "Raph walk away right now," Leo moves in front of Donnie and I, taking a defensive stance. Raph pauses and looks to Leo, seeing Leo ready to take him out. For a moment it seems as if he is gonna start a fight with Leo, not just a yelling match, but a fist fight. Instead Raph backs off. "Fine but next time I ain't gonna come for her if she gets in trouble," Raph says, turning and walking away. I let out a breath, not knowing that I was holding it and lean against Donnie. I hide my face against his side and let the tears fall from a heartache. He gently picks me up. I wrap my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist, as he smooths my hair away from my already damp cheek. I press my further into the crook of Donnie's neck to hide. "Hey its going to be okay," He murmurs trying to calm me down. "Yes we are mad at you, but it's out of fear of losing you," Leo comes up behind Donnie, lifting my face up so he can look at me. Leo smiles, which in turn makes me smile in return," we care about you Laura." "I know," I say in low voice and shift my eyes to where Raph disappeared to, sadness flowing through. Donnie, still holding me in his arms, leans his cheek against the side of my face. I let out a soft sigh and drop my chin on his shoulder. Exhaustion takes over from the events that unfolded earlier tonight and the emotional ride with Raph. Donnie carries me over to one of his tables and sets me on top of it. "I just want to make sure that there is no other injuries," Donnie explains as he gathers his instruments. I can only nod, for talking seems to be to much. Mikey leans on the table and can't seem to take his eyes off my tail. He watches it sway and flick around casually. The itch in his fingers grow more intense. He instead brings his gaze up to see Donnie inspect me for any injuries I might have. I maybe older than him and his brothers, but he can't help but think of me as a child. In the sense that I'm short. His gaze drifts back to my tail and unable to take it anymore, he reaches over and touches my fluffy tail. Yelping in surprise, I jerk away and can feel myself falling forward. Donnie gently catches me from falling off the table. I look back at Mikey, my face red and narrow my eyes at him. "Im sorry I couldn't help it. It's so fluffy and cute," Mikey sheepishly smiles at me, making my face burns even more. "Thank you mikey," I mumble tucking my head down so I don't have to look at the brothers. I lightly touch my rabbit ears, feeling how soft and velvety they are," I'm really sorry for causing trouble." "All is forgiven. There is no need to feel bad about it," Leo cracks a smile, giving me comfort. "Thank you," I smile back and hop off the table after Donnie finished looking over me for any injuries. "It's been a long night we should all get some rest," Leo says, ruffling my hair and pulling me into a hug," Don't worry about Raph, he is just worried for you." I blink and look up at Leo to see him smile knowingly, my face a shade of pink. I nod and look again in the direction of the dojo, where Raph disappeared into. I'm pretty sure he's beating the crap out of the dummy right now, knowing I'm the cause of his anger. "Get some sleep and tomorrow will be better," Donnie pats me on the head. "I'm not tired just yet. I think I'll stay up for a bit longer," I smile up at the brothers, heading towards the living room. "We can watch Star Wars for a bit if you want?" Mikey smiles, wanting to make me feel better and feel cared about. At the mention of Star Wars, my eyes light up and I smile," okay." Anger and rage still boils in Raph's blood. If it was possible steam would be coming out of his eyes. He slams his fist into the punching bag with a vengeance. How could a he be so stupid to do such a thing? Over and over the scene plays out in his mind with me jumping in and fighting, with no experience in at all. He's angry with me and at the foot clan for hurting me in the first place. To hear me not apologize for stepping in, shocked him and angered him even more. He has never wanted to shake someone so badly till they got it through their brains that they were stupid and kiss them so badly at the same time, until I came along. To anger him even more was seeing how I clung to Donnie. He slams his fist into the dummy for the last time and let's out a sigh. He glances over to the entrance of the dojo, hearing the familiar sounds of light sabers. Walking out of the dojo, his eyes on the couch, he doesn't see me and searches for me with his eyes. "She's fast asleep on the couch," Mikey comes up beside him, whispering. "Is she..." Raph begins to ask him. "Dude just go," Mikey nudges him forward. Mikey watches his older brother move to the couch. A smile spreads across his face, grabs on an orange crush and hums his way to his room leaving Raph and I alone. Raph looks over the couch to see me curled up, asleep. A soft smile spreads on his face at the sight of my rabbit ears and tail. Catching my tail flicking around and settle, he chuckles. Coming around the other side of the couch, he kneels down and brushes his finger across my cheek, sweeping the strands of hair from my face. You have no idea how much of my heart you hold. Seeing me stir a bit, he pauses, until I settle back down. He gently lifts my head up, slips underneath me and carefully lays my head in his lap. He let's the movie continue to play, even sets it on replay and let's sleep over take him. So I finally am posting one of my oneshot that I wrote a while back. It's also on my account on quotev along with my other stories I'm working on. So I hope you all like it. This is my version 2 of my original one. I had a lot fun writing this one.
