as a certified Diagnosed Autist(TM) i cannot stress enough that i am not only pro- self-diagnosis, but also pretty anti- legal medical diagnosis. it is, at best, a cruel hoop we have to jump through so privileged people will deign to give us what we need. don't fucking do that shit unless you have to, it was disgustingly expensive, fucking humiliating, infantilizing, and dehumanizing, and would probably actively cause problems in my life if i didn't have some really good allistic (-passing) people in my corner and also wasn't so fucking disabled that it mostly doesn't matter.
literally get that diagnosis if you need it for job/school accessibility shit or SSI or whatever, and otherwise dont tell the government SHIT about yourself. there is zero good reason for them to want that information. that's between you and the people you want in your life.

something I find especially entertaining about Edward IV's reign is how Scandalous™ it was lol
he married a woman “whose origins broke all established conventions for English queenship” in a secret ceremony without consulting any of his lords and then made it everyone else's problem. he committed regicide, he committed fratricide; he was accused of bastardry, he was accused of bigamy and a 19-year-long sham marriage, he was accused of using necromancy against his subjects, he was accused of being enchanted by witchcraft by both his wife and his mother-in-law (multiple times). his own mother was said to "rule the king as she pleased" in the early years of his reign. he knew he was hot and actively milked it for money. he was vain as fuck: “he was wont to show himself to those who wished to watch him, and he seized any opportunity that the occasion offered of revealing his fine stature to onlookers”. he knew everything about everyone. "he was more favourable than other princes to foreigners". he was “fond of boon companionship, vanities, debauchery, extravagance and sensual enjoyments”; he was "thought to have indulged in his passions and desires too intemperately”; "it was ever feared he was not chaste”. his subjects publicly gossiped about his sex life, his doctors thought he was insane. NOBODY understood how he was still competent despite all this.
honestly, who was doing it like him?

I love how the people who haven't seen the clone wars and rebels are like "oh yes bo katan is so badass i'm starting to love her a lot" etc etc while i'm here like. this woman is the equivalent of a dumpster fire. she's such a loser look at her rotting in a throne room the whole day doing absolutely nothing but being miserable. she's so bored that she's travelling across the galaxy to help the equivalent of a distant acquaintance. just to feel something. even though she's supposed to dislike Din because he got in the way by accident she's so done with everything that she helps him. i'm sure if some other random characters showed up she would have helped them as well because she's so bored. Give me more of this please

it's so funny (read: sad) that if bigoted fuckheads didn't insist i was a woman simply by virtue of my body at birth, i'd probably be chill with she/her pronouns in addition to he/they. if my mom didn't insist i was her daughter, i'd probably let her call me that, and we could still have a relationship.
i'm nonbinary and 'gendered' words are hypothetically meaningless, but because there are so many people who are more interested in telling me who i am rather than lovingly and curiously letting me express my own sense of self, those words carry trauma.
there's no reason a nonbinary person like myself can't be a son and a child and a daughter. there's no reason a nonbinary person like me can't go by he, they, and she.
'she' is not a slur. 'daughter' is not derogatory. 'beautiful' 'pretty' 'gorgeous' 'feminine' are not insults.
to the contrary, they're parts of language that express certain facets of a multi-faceted human existence, like mine.
and i have this sad, mournful feeling that if it weren't for unloving, condescending people, i'd probably be down to be called any of those things alongside my usual masculine/neutral terminology.
but i'd rather die than let anyone tell me what i have to be called.

Amazed with how many people say they like Birdie or they find her, not Kate Hudson but her, genuinely attractive. Did you completely miss the point? As an attractive white woman, Birdie Jay can get away with saying “Jewy” as an insult, can get away with comparing herself to Harriet Tubman and implicitly can get away with doing blackface. People forgave her, because she’s just a little stupid, she didn’t mean it, it wasn’t her fault! All she needs to do, as Peg outright states, is give a half apology and lay low and then the world will get over it. But the things she did are still horrific. Her racism is still racism, regardless of whether it comes from hate or ignorance. Birdie Jay is not a good person and you’re not meant to think she is.

Analyzing volume covers
Number 20 & 17 – Kakucho and Izana
Kakucho’s volume cover was inspired by his name (鶴蝶; Kaku-cho, crane – butterfly). Cranes symbolize longevity, luck/good fortune, good health, loyalty (/fidelity. They’re monogamous and usually mate for life), peace and wisdom in Japan. Cranes are believed to live a thousand years (note : ‘a thousand’ doesn’t necesseraly means 1,000 but rather ‘a lot’ – it can more than that. Same for the ‘a thousand’ kanji in Senju, Haruchiyo and Chifuyu) and in China they even symbolize immortality. It seems they are also related to gratitude/returning favors. Butterflies symbolize beauty, transformation, resilience too (all because of how catterpillar change into butterfly ; that they overcome harships). They are close to the idea of life and death as butterflies are believed to be spirits from the deads coming on earth for the last time in the form of a butterfly. Other symbolism they carry are good luck/fortune and prosperity, as well as happiness
There are also waves/a bit of water in the clothes design. This carries the meaning of renewal, cleansing, the flow of life, power/resilience and luck as well.
As I see it, Izana’s clothes have peonies and clouds patterns.
Peonies are seen as the king/queen of flowers and also symbolize honor, bravery, courage, good fortune, wealth and prosperity. Clouds symbolize hope, change and proximity with the gods

this is only vaguely related to my last ask but it got me thinking again how much i don't like the type of scrutiny that some people engage with when it comes to headcanons. don't get me wrong, there is plenty of headcanons that i despite when they appear in a particular context because they clearly come from a place of total ignorance and sometimes even borderline malice; and there are ways of writing about characters that are very obviously rooted in reactionary attitudes. but i have also seen situations in which people of specific ethnicities were told they were not supposed to hc a character to be said ethnicity because of the classist implications. i have seen people saying that headcanoning a particular character to be trans is too stereotypical and that it makes them "sick." i've seen people annoyed about characters being a particular religion because "there's another character who was said to be that religion before" (shocking and upsetting to some americans especially: religions are real and usually have more than one follower so they don't have to be assigned to a single character per title as their token.) and idk i think we should all pause for a moment and remember that the pieces of identity that people assign their favourite characters are often their own. there are ways to reclaim these cliches too. it's a matter of intention. people often read themselves into their beloved pieces of art. and maybe it does not always create the truest image of the author's intention nor a revolutionary picture of minority rep, but no one claims it does.

Tuvok lying on the floor, dying of fever, saying stuff like “T’Pel’s shampoo is tea scented and though the exact tea is unspecified I believe it most closely resembles Ghran-tek...” while Tom begs him to please please just tell him what she looks like so he can make the gd hologram.
