so i only started watching d20 this year and i started with Neverafter man what a ride! I loved it so much and I'll be back to watch it again sometime I love little red and my frog man so much lmao

and then once that was finished, I decided hmm let's do A Crown of Candy that seems fun! And this was of course while I'm in the middle of 3rd year so I don't have A Lot of time and honestly just added to my extremely high stress levels already. (I haven't actually finished the campaign yet 😬 classes ramped up and it much stress abounded lmao I think there's like 4 eps left? After the betrayal and jet dying and meeting Frostwhip and rescuing Jawbreaker I believe I've seen the episode after jawbreaker is rescued and that's the last. I will come back eventually when I'm less stressed and farther from metal breakdown lol)

And then I watched the first and I think second? episode of dungeons and drag queens. And I truly enjoyed it! I will return to watching it and finish it for sure I just got very deep into school and had no time and then breakdown era lmao

Then I watched Mentopolis! My friend and I both watched and talked theories and honestly I loved it. Just so good, I believe made me cry. Will likely rewatch.

And now I am Obsessed with Burrow's End. Like, I don't even know how to put it in words. (Is it probably because Im mentally unwell right now and under vast stress and strain and have been since September? Lmao probably a small contributing factor) but like I have rewatched episodes already in this season it's that fucking good.

And now while waiting for the weekly episode to drop rather than doing any of my truly enormous list of Extremely important and Critical things to do, I decided I haven't had enough of d20 and I needed more Aabria DM in my life rn. So now I am honestly plowing my way through a court of fey and flowers and I'm in love. Ok Chirp and Squawk are truly marvelous and play off eachother so damn well I am in love with these birds and all the bird puns and references they make endlessly bring me joy. And fucking K P Hob omg 😭 truly going to make me cry this fucking goblin man. I don't really know much about this campaign or what happens but I stg if Hob and Rue don't end up together I will be heartbroken. I just finished the hedge maze EP and honestly up to this point just fucking heartbreaking. But like Holy shit honestly the whole cast is killing it and Aabria bringing the fucking thunder and not even like just A game the fucking A+ extra credit graduate early with honors game holy shit. Like I'm not big into regency, I've never read p&p or seen Downton Abbey or Bridgeton but I've read a few books set in that era and have knowledge of the media and like the cadence and tropes of the genre, so like when I say I'm invested so much I'm like sooo invested. I love all the mechanics with the tokens and the letters and the rumors especially it's amazing. Truly revolutionary and groundbreaking and in the least creepy way possible I would give Aabria a kidney her work is just so amazing.

Anyways! The point I started making this with was that I can't wait until I finish acofaf so that way I can actually go through the tags without getting spoiled!

Cinderella and 2am and Melody of Golden Age have joined the lengthy list of dropped dramas.

I am not a follower of the sunk cost fallacy and have been known to walk out of a movie halfway if I am bored, so it's no surprise am ruthless with dropping dramas - there are dramas where I dropped them two eps from the end, so 4 out of 10 (Cinderella) or 19 out of 40 (Melody) is nothing.

As anyone who's followed this tumblr for more than five minutes probably knows, I watch a lot of stuff with large chunks on 2x/3x - it takes a truly extraordinary drama for me not to ff at all (Beyond Evil, which I am watching right now qualifies; out of airing dramas for all of 2024 only Eternal Brotherhood and Joy of Life 2 qualified. Even with excellent dramas like Black Out or Heroes or Tender Light or Shen Li, there are at least some bits I watch on 2x.) But it is always a bad sign when I start watching ALL of it on 2x, let alone when I am doing 4x and skipping even then, as I started doing with these two dramas.

I can't really write a long and fun rant about hating them or what's wrong with them or w/e, because tbh I did not hate either of them. I did not find anything in them offensive or massively annoying. I can't point to a glaring issue and go "a-ha!"

It's just - they bore me. That is kind of a worse condemnation than a fun dumpster fire. (I once watched the entirety of a jdrama called Vampire Gigolo and I watch Chinese minidramas, I know whereof I speak.)

The ultimate issue with either is that I don't care for any of the characters - and not as a fancy way of saying I dislike them because that would be some emotion. No, in a plain meaning of I have no emotional investment in them, I don't really care what happens to them. They are fine. They are OK. And I wouldn't care if they all got every dream fulfilled or got drowned in Lee Soo Hyuk's Queen Woo moat. And unless the drama is a rare intellectual feast where I am so invested in the plot or the message that I don't care about being indifferent to the characters (and a fluffy romcom and a fluffy procedural aren't gonna be that), I need to feel something for the characters, I need to be invested. They don't have to be good people, I don't have to love them as people but I have to care about their fate, even if it's to watch them get shanked. (Think The Advisors' Alliance - most of the characters are monsters but they are magnetic and fascinating and I was so so so invested in them.) And here I have none of that. It all feels paint by numbers to me.

They don't feel like real people and that's fine. But they don't feel like interesting narrative constructs either. And time is finite and my watch list is long, so good bye, better luck with other viewers!

Okay, im gonna preface this by saying that i normally post these directly after watching, so the chaos no context makes a little bit more sense but i was way too tired to deal with uploading after the ep last night... reading it back.... i DID enjoy the episode and did think it was a good one! props to director Aisha. i just think that *between* the eps this season, they keep flitting back and fourth between the style of how they're executing adding in new unsubs/connections to gold star/whatever and my brain can't follow it sometimes (esp at 2 in the morning when i'm getting tired lol).

I get finding early Jaune annoying, but tag-lurking for that purpose ain't healthy. 'Sides, V6-8 made leaps & bounds WRT his screentime balance & watchability (loved the 'hoverbikes OK for a dude who might've never seen one before' parts).

Oh for sure, I hated Jaune until like v6 really. However, just because I didn't like him or his character, doesn't mean it wasn't a good direction for his growth.

Which like, mini tangent, you can hate a character while still understanding their actions/development. Like just saying.

But yeah v1-v3 Jaune is this naive goofy dude who was told by his sister or dad or smth(I forget it was real early) that all he has to do is show confidence to get the girl. He tries that with Weiss, a lot, it doesn't work. It's a very irritating character trait, and then you see Pyrrha, a beloved character, pining after him while he doesn't notice her until near the end. Which is another mini gripe that was sorta forced in a sense but like time constraints I get it. So he finally gets more confident thanks to Pyrrha's training and reinforcement and then she's killed after he realizes his feelings.

I think v5-v6 is my favorite version of Jaune before I started liking him. He sort of stays strong in the first few eps we see, helps RNJR with plans, gets Pyrrha's head piece added to his shield and that moment of him, Nora, and Ren in the hotel room together, all their weapons against the wall, showing off her head piece for the first time like they're all back together? Fucking loved that scene. Anyway, then we see him training every night to the recording of Pyrrha, and y'know what they say about the definition of insanity.

But the real kicker is when Qrow comes in, when he starts saying more about the maidens, about all these things that were fairy tales. That's when Jaune really starts to get pissed off, all these adults they were supposed to trust have hidden all these things. Maybe if they told them, maybe if they knew they could have saved Pyrrha. So that's where we start getting serious angst Jaune.

Then we get to his sister's house. We see how he reacts to Oscar, slamming him against a wall, screaming at him because if only Oz had told them earlier maybe her destiny could have been different. He keeps blaming people for things that can't be changed anymore, he's got so much anger, so much rage about this.

There's also that moment he happens upon Pyrrha's statue, talks with her mom(or sister? I forget) then Ren and Nora round the corner and something clicks.

But nothings easy, because Then there's Haven. Cider's there, the person who killed Pyrrha and he lets that anger take over, he's sloppy, isn't thinking. Cider's the bad guy though, decides she could torture him just a bit more, stabs Weiss with that lance. It's like a repeat of beacon all over again and he can't. He can't handle doing that again. His desperation unlocks his semblance, saves Weiss.

There's more but like that's the gist, he accepts he can't change the past, but he can help now, he can keep his friends alive. (Well. Mostly. Rip penny)

Then we finally get v7-v8 and he gets his haircut (which I always liked better than the other one fight me)he's more at peace with himself, becomes that goofy dude again, but different. He's cracking good natured jokes, coming up with plans and just feels better about himself.

But then he watches one by one as his friends fall into, what he thinks is death, has to kill one of his friends (who's already died at the hands of his dead girlfriend so like at least they have that in common) and then he falls. That boy is going to be real fucked up during v9 and he's going to go backwards, that's a given, but I hope it's in a way that's... I dunno, he doesn't turn into a hated character again.

Anyway it's 2am there's more and I'm bad with words and rambled but like. Yeah.

Our rather interesting flight EP#1

This is by far one of my most memorable teaching moments in my flying career. Me and my father departed from centennial airport (APA) for Kansas city downtown (MKC) in the SF50 vision jet. My father needed to do a plane swap for a new demonstration aircraft so he allowed me to come along. The flight out there was rather uneventful, it was a beautiful July evening and not a thunderstorm in sight.

We arrived out in Kansas city and went and grabbed dinner in the downtown area with my dads coworker, thank god we did because the next few hours were about to become chaotic.

Within the next hour and a half there were two MASSIVE thunderstorms that popped up, one being south of our route of flight and one being north. These thunderstorms were rapidly growing, and slowly closing in on each other which would close our gap along our route of flight. With this being a normal thing in the summer we didn't think much about it so we quickly departed MKC for APA and had a nice gap between the two thunderstorms.

In a normal climb out we were just north of the southern thunderstorm by about 20-30 miles. The lightning storm was absolutely beautiful as you watch it all from a distance. Climbing through 14,000 feet we had no weather on our NEXRAD weather, keep in mind here that the NEXRAD is updated every 5-10 minutes. With this rapidly growing thunderstorm, what we were seeing on the radar wasn't what was actually happening outside.

In that climb through 14,000 feet the lightning started to grow dark which was really unusual. We look up and see this massive black tower in front of us and BAM we smack this thunderstorm (which was not on the radar). We immediately hit a crazy updraft so our climb rate went from 2,000 FPM to 8,000 FPM! We were just covered in ice in a matter of seconds. We quickly made a turn back around to the right because we knew the thunderstorm was off our left so we would now fly away from it and allow us to get out of this rapidly growing "cell". Without air traffic controls approval, which in this situation was ok, we made the turn back around and got the aircraft stable enough and outside of the thunderstorm. With that we were now at 19,000 feet and all of this happened in a span of maybe 2 minutes max.

We were now mentally shaken up over what just happened. With that we got a re route over to Omaha Nebraska where we could land and re asses how we wanted to get home. We arrived in Omaha probably around 11pm and got more jet fuel and said that we were just go the really long way. Our new route of flight has us going north of the northern thunderstorm all the way up to the southern part of North Dakota then we would traverse west and pop down over Wyoming.

We did make it back home that night at around 2am in the morning. We were both exhausted but man this was such a good learning moment.

Looking back at this experience there were a few things we could have done better. I wouldn't say our situation was get there idous as we had a clear path between the two thunderstorms so I think we were ok in that context. When it came to us flying into the cell we should have had the onboard weather radar running, this would have gave us accurate weather readings allowing us to know that we were about to fly into a rapidly growing cell. Even with us flying that close to two rapidly growing thunderstorms it should have been instinct to have the onboard radar running giving us information as it scans back and forth getting radar returns.

With this experience it has taught me to always have backup instruments running so you have more data to make poise decisions.

If there is one thing I can preach to new pilots, it's that there will be moments in your flying career where you will be put up to the task of making poised decisions. My best advice towards this is learn from your mistakes. In our case, we should have ran the weather radar to make sure our decisions were smart. If it weren't for this memorable experience it would not have made me a better pilot. Learn from your mistakes and use it to grow and fly safe!

Should i read ouran?

YES. assuming you’ve already watched the anime at some point absolutely Yes. I loved the anime when I was 15 and revisiting the series now all these years later by reading the manga definitely reawakened something in me. I really think it is a delightfully fun and absurd story with a lot of heart and a lot of love and a truly iconic ensemble cast. Like the main characters of course but also all the crazy side characters.

It’s also genuinely just extremely funny. I was laughing out loud throughout all the volumes, I think Bisco Hatori is a genius when it comes to comedic timing and character-specific comedy. Everyone is so stupid in uniquely funny ways and everyone loves each other so much. The anime catches up with the manga about halfway through and then it’s all new material about further character development and relationship development and future planning and I CRIED OK!!! Also even the stuff that is covered in the anime is a bit different in the manga, eg the Alice in Wonderland ep is waaay funnier in the manga imo

Here’s some online scans but honestly if your local library has copies I recommend reading those, I’m partial to the official translation. Or be crazy like me and buy the full box set on impulse at 2am

T: What is the celebratory sake for?

K: Well, this is our first recording of the new year..

J: Yes

T: Happy New Year

J: Happy New Year. By the time this is broadcast it will already be well into January though.

K: Yes, so..for good luck.

J: Ah, that would be welcome....but Im not gonna drink it.

K: Why?

J: Um, I've said this a few times before, but my resolution for 2021 is to not go so crazy when drinking alcohol, to not get too carried away.

T: Hahaha

J: I've already decided on it.

K: Don't you always say that?

J: No, no, no. Um, recently...was it on the 27th? After the live broadcast? I left afterwards with Tasai.

T: Oh, yeah.

J: We left together, we got a taxi. Then when I arrived home, it was about 2am, right? When I tried to get in my house, I didn't have my keys.

T, K: Eh?!

T: Really??

J: I didn't have my keys..what could I do? I think i actually left them somewhere before i arrived here, and I hadn't been drinking before that. But in the end, I went to a hotel in my neighborhood...like, please let me stay here, I'll pay so please let me stay. So, I woke up the next day and called the real estate agent to ask if they had a spare key..they didn't. They said they'd given all the keys to me. So, I called around a few other places, and by about lunch time I managed to get hold of a key. But I had to go and do a live radio broadcast in this kind of messed up state, so..

T: Eh?!

J: Well, I mean, it wasn't the fault of alcohol this time, but I have lost my pocket wifi before while I was drunk, and my glasses...and Im constantly telling dirty jokes while drunk...so this year..., well, I will drink alcohol, but Im not gonna go wild.

J: There are a few reasons for that. After I've had a drink, I can't read difficult kanji, and also I have bad eyesight. Katakana has loads of spaces in it, right?

T: Maybe we should have let Tasai do it.

T: Yeah, I should have done the reading.

J: Kanji just turns into clumps.

K: Ok, well, today...Tasai, could you get us started?

T: Yes, this is about the big match on last New Years Eve. Its boxing news. It was the WBO super flyweight title match between Ioka Kazuto and Tanaka Kōsei. Ioka won the match, but this news deals with a slightly different aspect. Ioka's tattoos were visible during the match. The boxing commission have said this is a violation of the rules, and are considering imposing a penalty. Questions have been arising on social media like, 'Isn't this a mistake?', and, 'What about individual freedom?' Did you watch the match, Kaoru?

K: No, I didn't, but I saw it on the news.

T: Yeah. And, Ioka had actually covered his tattoos with foundation to hide them before getting in the ring, but sweating made the foundation come off.

J: I see.

T: So, its become a bit of a talking point, what to think about this.

K: This isn't the first time he's done this, right? He covered his tattoos before in other fights?

T: Yeah, to stop the foundation coming off he...

K: But foundation?...can you really hide them with foundation?

J: Haha, yeah, maybe not. They are too solid. So, he went ino the ring without foundation this time?

T: No, he had it on, but it came off with sweat.

J: Wouldn't that happen anyway?

K: If it did, that means its come off everytime up to now.

J: Right? Its not like its only come off this time. Its hard to understands why the JBC are raising this problem only now?

T: Well, its in the rules. The rules for matches are...in the rulebook, Match management section 4, conditions for boxers article 86, it says for things that make spectators feel uncomfortable, such as tattoos...if a boxer has tattoos, they must not appear in the ring.

J: Oh, thats written?

T: Yes, thats written in the rules. There have been cases in the past of boxers getting tattoos surgically removed in order to be able to compete in the ring.

J: Im not sure about this. Feeling uncomfortable just by seeing a tattoo...?

K: Regular people do though, don't they?

J: Do they?

K: Not people like us here, regular people are different.

J: Haha, of course.

K: But its Japanese people...foreigners have seen tattoos as pretty normal for quite a long time.

J: Right. Their police even have tattoos.

K: But we havn't got there in Japan yet. They are still thought of as scary. Even me, if I see someone with tattoos walk in, I don't say anything to them, but I do notice and look at them if they have tattoos.

J: Well..

K: You look though, right?

J: Well, I would think 'oh, they have tattoos'.

K: Yeh, but you would say ????*2

K: You would!

J: Would I? But...this is boxing, right? The spectators have come to watch people hitting each other.

K: Well, yeah, thats right.

J: For example, if a kabuki actor suddenly revealed tattoos all over their body, I have a feeling it wouldn't go down well with people who are going to see traditional arts, but if they are going to see people punching each other, would they be that bothered about tattoos?

K: Its because the rules havn't changed since a long time ago.

J: Yeah. Hmm, Im not sure about this. What's it like overseas?

T: Its totally fine overseas.

J: Its ok, right?

K: They don't mind if foreigners have them.

J: Ah, foreign boxers with tattoos are allowed to fight in Japan?

T: Yes.

K: So I think this is good. It could change how we do things *3

J: Yeah, it creates a stir, because there are quite a lot of people who know about this old rule. Um, even at events and stuff (I MC at a lot of events), some guests are instructed to wear long sleeeves when they attend. This is what Japan is like with tattoos.

T: But I think I read somwhere that the NBA also has the rule to cover tattoos. Like, they will wear armbands and stuff to cover them.

K: Even in baseball, the Giants have banned facial hair.

J: Have they?

T: The Giants have an unwritten code, let me think who had a beard....do you remember Ogasawara Michihiro/Gatz?

J: Oh yeah, the left handed player?

T: Yeah, when he joined the Giants he shaved it all off etc. That type of thing still happens, even now. Have a look next time the Giants play, none of them have facial hair.

J: I don't think foreign players will like these rules that Japanese have. This seems like its against the Constitution. It really does.

Kami: Its discrimination, right?

J: Yes, I agree.

Kami: Nishinari people are sensitive to discrimination.

J: Yeah, I mean, if they are gonna have this rule, they should ban tattoos for everyone in boxing, but to say its ok for foreign boxers but not Japanese ones.. its a bit...

Kami: Its unconstitutional. Its discrimination.

J: Yeh, I think its discrimination. But looking at some of the comments, some say that although its written in the rules, it can't be helped these days.

Kami: Its not fair though, letting Ioka get this incredible win, and then afterwards saying, actually, no.

T: Yes, thats right.

Kami: When I was younger I won at pachinko..

J: Haha, all of a sudden..

Kami: I had quite a babyface, and would get mistaken for being underage. They never said anything to me when I lost...

T: But when you handed in your tickets they told you no because you're underage?

Kami: Yeah, yeah. Even though they said nothing to me when I was losing. Its like they come to stop you after you start winning.

T: I see.

Kami: They will take all the benefits, but when it starts to get unfavorable...I sense that unfairness.

T: Ah, yeh. Well, its true that the boxing commission already knew that Ioka had tattoos. And they asked him to take part.

J: Yeah. Its not like he got the tattoos right before this match.

T: Thats right. Incidentally, he got this particular tattoo in America in 2018, September, to show resovle and determination for his comeback fight. And this time, he has also added his son's name as if to say 'lets fight together'.

J: Oh, thats a nice meaning....Sue them!

T: Sue them?

K: It seems so to me, speaking as a person who has tattoos.

J: Thats what you have felt from experience?　Exactly.

K: But you could say that he knew this when he got the tattoos. He knew they would tell him to stop.

T: Like, boxers definitely understand this.

K: He knows it, but he is still appearing in the ring, so if he has determination and resolve, its great. If he doesn't, its no surprise if he gets complaints.

J, T: I see.

J: Well, considering he did try to hide it, but the covering just came off, I wonder what will happen. Its not like he can wear clothes over it, right?

K: He could have put tape on it.

J: Oh, right, you can hide it like that too?

T: Yeah, there might be something like skin coloured tape.
