I think a very normal amount about Crocodile and Mihawk genuinely seeing Buggy's value. Genuinely appreciating his dream and his sense of adventure. Mihawk (bored-to-death swordsman who desperately needs something new) and Crocodile (the man who only cares about business because the last time he wanted something a kid with flip-flops sent him flying) seeing that the clown they're only using as bait and punching bag is actually the one with the biggest pirate heart. They realize he has charisma and followers for a reason and it's the fact that his "fake it til you make it" persona is actually built above his true dream. The words of fake confidence he speaks are actually words he genuinely wants to believe, but always fears will backfire because he doesn't have anything to rely on (unlike Shanks. Because even if Shanks doesn't need to rely on anything, he used to wear the trust and love of their captain in his head and everyone else supported him to be his legacy). So they end up seeing that they can do more with him. Together. Mihawk and Crocodile might have the money and the people but Buggy has the dream. They can go higher. They can be more than what they thought they were. Buggy shows them this side of himself between tears and sudden yelling and they have to admit that... They used to have dreams. Long forgotten ones. And okay, Buggy might not be the king of the pirates. They're so not saying that. But they can go higher.
They see this side of him and they never say it out loud (and even if they did, Buggy wouldn't even notice because he's busy begging them not to kill him. Which, y'know, fair) but something changes inside of them. Perhaps it's a faint, tiny sense of protectiveness. Maybe affection. Some type of appreciation they can't quite name because it would be too embarrassing for them to even say they care for this clown but- But it's there. Something.
So they keep Buggy around and he starts to feel less like a punching bag and more like somebody they care about. Kind of. And you know what? Maybe the damn clown can become the king of the pirates if he has already made the impossible happen once.

so I just finished rewatching volume 2 and a lot of what I kept thinking about is how before they kissed, yang told blake “I like that you’ve never been intimidated by me… even when you didn’t like me very much” because it is so so interesting rewatching w/ that in mind. just like. the way blake seeks yang out in the emerald forest because she is drawn to her strength (even when she is still a little wary of people). and in volume 2 I think you can really start to see how much yang likes that, how much she likes her: up until burning the candle, yang’s arc is essentially just chasing blake around and trying to make her smile, trying to get her to like her back — from “whatcha doing?” to the Lost Cherry Stem Footage to “i love it when you’re feisty!” and right up until she insists she WILL get blake to the dance. I wouldn’t be surprised if she orchestrated the whole food fight to try and make blake laugh tbh — she is that smitten and that extra!
I don’t think yang quite realizes why she’s so drawn to blake until burning the candle… but she definitely realizes she has a crush then.
that's Her. that's the oh moment.
and again, I think a part of what draws yang to blake here is that blake isn’t afraid to push back against her. like, yang is pretty pushy with her, but blake is able to hold her own even when she is at the end of her rope. I don’t think yang is used to relationships where she is able to relate to people like this without having to soften herself — not with ruby, who she is half a mother to, not to tai, whose emotional shutdown after summer died had to be pretty formative for yang. but blake? blake is her partner, and yang can meet her on equal footing in a way that it probably more intimate than anything she’s known before now.
and god bless yang because she IMMEDIATELY shoots her shot afterwards with a saucy little wink and a saved first dance. she's still got eight years to go, but she's got the spirit!

So,
Long ass post about why I'm so insane over toddosuba. Disclaimer- I just stoped reading re zero at moment where subaru got turned into a childe, but also know that todd is a werewolf. So I'm going to be delusional about them.
so imagine you lost and scared and you nearly drowned, and now you treated by some asshole, and that asshole deciding kill you or not. But here other guy, and he's trying to help you, and generally very friendly and nice, isn't it cool? Yeah you still your situation is incredibly shitty, and That asshole still practically bulling you, but at least there's something good, right? That friendly guy, with so friendly and joyful smile. And you genuinely trying to help him, because it would be fair. And then you learn that he's actually kinda insane. And you kiiiiinda helped him in killing people. But, you got killed by one of survivors, and you have second try, you just need to not fuck this up right?
And there's is start for my brainrot, because. Well. Subaru. Kinda fucked this up, by doing very natural thing from HIS point of view. But not from Todd's point of view.
it was so natural for subaru to act this way in this situation but yeah. Interesting that, subaru have many. Moments like that, that makes his suspicious as fuck, and sometimes other just shrug it off, but sometimes that's what's get him in trouble (arc 2, a couple of moments in arc 3, and whole mess that was in one lope in arc 4. With garfiel).
But THAT'S were it's getting interesting, because subaru only half understand that he's given a role to play. and he's sure trying to play
He's trying role of some selfish coward, who doesn't care about anything but himself. Which is interesting, when you consider. The fucking entire plot of re zero. (But also how many times he called himself selfish too-)
and todd believes him. In that at least. But then subaru just lured him and other soldiers into giant fucking snake. Todd survived and we got one of the hellish couple of chapters where subaru got killed by him in various horrible ways.
Until subaru does something so incredibly sexy of him. Because he's actually smart, and a very good listener
Todd got him another role to play. Because todd sees himself in subaru and isn't that a delicious dynamic. Something dangerous, who would kill anybody if needed, a threat. Everything that subaru is not (...for the most part). That role is reason of whole this mess but ironically also his only chance of survival. So, again, he's playing this role
it's almost was a little funny (not so for todd, because logically subaru shouldn't know about him).
Their dynamic ideally described here:
To subaru it's a new enemy, who he made himself, to todd he's mirror of himself, and they adapting and learning in hope to overpower each other, and isn't it kinda beautiful? (In very very fucked up way)
Also. What was all that interactions in That chapter
What. What was All Of That.
And also:
They terrified to each other, and trying to fight just to survive from their point of view, and that messed up beautiful dance of death was fUCKED UP BY TEPPEI TURNING SUBARU INTO A CHILD-
Sorry. But yeah. Also I wanted to write how beautiful it is that they both just humans but. Todd is a fucking werewolf. Which is bringing another bit of spice to them because:
Todd you literally can shred him to pieces. You already was doing it with your axe
Please listen "howl" by florence and the machine. You'll see my point.
I'm not going to make a furry joke But- [gunshot]
So. Yeah.

Listen i just want to preface this by saying I don't even personally hate Tommy, but that's not really the point i want to make so here goes nothing.
The way a lot of people act as if it's impossible to dislike him because the characters have moved on so so should we, right? and that's the thing right here, as poc we're always being told to move on. We can't express our feelings, we can't hold grudges, we can't complain about issues without making it something more than it is, we always have to just... move on.
I know people are going to say it's just a show, it's not that serious, but the issues it touches on and the way fandom speaks on those issues are.
I've seen a lot of comparisons between Tommy and other mains, how each of them are flawed and have screwed up one way or another, and you're right, but it's still unfair to compare him to them. We've seen each of the main characters experience guilt, or be ashamed of their action, we've seen them apologise, put in the work to actually grow, and they have. There's not enough time in an episode for us to see that for side characters. In this case, Tommy didn't do any of the above and that's normal, he was a plot device to show some very real societal issues, and especially what people of colour/women might go through in the workplace, and once he served his purpose he didn't get much more beyond a few scenes where it seemed like everything was fine between him and chim/hen. It would be more appropriate to compare him to the buckley parents, (who appeared in more or less the same amount of episodes) like if people suddendly started saying no one is allowed to hate them because they got their redemption, their kids more or less forgave them, they more or less tried to be better parents. And yet it's still not enough for a lot of people, because how they treated their children, the shit they've said to them, hits a little too close to home for a lot of people and so no matter what the show says or does, they'll still be mostly hated by the audience, and that's more than okay. But if margaret buckley is your favourite character than by all means be my guest. And listen, i love this show, it's all about hope, and it means everyone gets a redemption arc, as short as it is (sometimes even just a sentence lol), but we won't always be satisfied with these arcs, especially if they don't feel proportional to the hurt the characters may have caused to our mains, so we'll all have different reactions to them.
I swear liking a morally ambiguous/grey character says absolutely nothing about you, but making excuses for them, antagonising people who might dislike them (for good reasons) or acting like suddenly triggers don't exist for people, does say something about you. One of my favourite characters is literally the worst person ever, an actual bigot, but i won't ever write essays about why people are not allowed to dislike him actually because he's my babygirl.. i very much understand why people would.
All of this to say, everyone will have different opinions about Tommy. Some might love him, some will be completely neutral or at worst slightly uncomfortable/bothered by him, and some will straight up hate him, and all of these are fine. Live and let live, love whoever you want to love, and hate whoever you want to hate, but please stop trying to dictate how others should feel, i'm begging. And this really does go both ways.
