I usually assume I know a normal amount about the Nintendo Wii until I see someone say something blatantly wrong about the console at which point I have a ten minute speal at the ready and immediately realize that is Not Normal.
#THE WII SCREAM IS CAUSED BY THE CONSOLE NOT DISABLING THE DSP CORRECTLY MAKING IT GET STUCK ON ONE TONE#AND IT MAKES A POPPING NOISE WHEN YOU TURN THE WII OFF BECAUSE THE SPEAKERS NOT BC ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE WII#also anytime anyone capitalizes iOS like IOS it makes me want to say something about the Wii#>slaps wii< this bad boy can fit 80 variants of the same operating system on it#plus one bonus operating system for game cube games#which fun fact actually includes patches for a few games that would crash#also the Wii’s unified memory model#where the GPU and CPU share memory#one last fun fact to finish this off is that you can dump a gba game or a gba’s firmware using a wii#you have to do it over the link cable and it takes 40 minutes to dump a gba game but you can do it!

with the launch of Windows 95 in the summer of 1995, Microsoft didn’t just transform the tech industry, it redefined how we interact with personal computing
anticipation skyrocketed in the months leading up to its release, fueled by a $300 million marketing campaign, midnight store openings, and nonstop TV ads
95’ set a new benchmark for operating systems with its sleek modern interface which included the recognizable Start menu and taskbar; making computers more approachable than ever before
the promise of a quicker, easier operating system sparked global excitement, making Windows 95 a cultural sensation before it even hit the shelves

Ok, now that you wiped away your tears of laughter, here’s how you can change your web browser and search engine:
- download one of the browsers that put privacy and security first. Here’s a great list. Examples include: Brave, Mozilla Firefox, and for more advanced users: Tor, Ungoogled
- use a VPN. There’s free and paid options.
- change your default search engine to something other than Google. Your online traffic matters. Which websites you load matters. Think of your time and clicks as online currency. Ecosia is a great Bing/Microsoft based search engine that also plants trees with every search! And it gives great results. Another one is DuckDuckGo. Here’s a list of alternative search engines.
Hot tip: the operating systems also collect data whenever you use an online keyboard (and suggested text). Don’t want them to know what you’re typing? You can download a free privacy keyboard for Android (haven’t found one for iOS yet but Apple says the data is stored on device only. Let’s hope so🤞).
Another idea for advanced users: operating systems (such as macOS and Windows) still collect tons of data about you, and cost money if you want to install them on a 2nd hand device, for example. You can use operating systems that are completely free, open-source and user-friendly, such as Ubuntu.
Now go and roam the internet, be free, and donate to open-source programs if you can 😘

The timing of this silent opt-in to beta testing for iOS is giving me doggie data breach energy. They are extracting as much of our data as they can and feeding into learning engines (LLMs) for ai.
It’s no consolation to me that the hackers are restricted to read only access. Even with redacted data they have extracted enough to make the connections from the systems they’ve breached and the data that’s being collected and assimilated from sources like this new “feature”
hi btw even if you didn’t upgrade to ios 18 with the ai software, apple still switched everything on to learn from your phone.

You have to go into siri settings and apps and then toggle everything off (I left search app on so I can find them, but all else off). You have to do this for every single app 😅

Maintenance Update
Happy Wednesday, everyone! While we’re waiting for the engineers to do their thing with today’s maintenance and update, we wanted to touch base with you ahead of time about accessibility and today’s update.
If you’re someone who is sensitive to moving lights, images, or colors online or if you just don’t like them, you have the option to force a setting globally, called prefers-reduced-motion, through your operating system:
Windows 10: Start > Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Show Animations in Windows
MacOS: System Preferences > Accessibility > Display> Reduce Motion
iOS: Settings > Accessibility > Motion> Reduce Motion
Android: Settings > Accessibility > Remove Animations
While not all websites respect the prefers-reduced-motion flag (yet), the update we’re launching today does! What’s especially helpful when you use this setting is that today's update will respect your motion preferences even when you’re logged out!
If you’re sensitive to such animations, this down time is a good time to set your global preferences.
There will also be a toggle in your Account Settings that will allow players to completely turn off the feature if needed or desired. We’ll have more information about the level of individual control a player has with this feature for you when maintenance concludes.
