i miss loving someone so much i couldn't breathe.

it's nice to have my lungs clear but i dont like them hollow.

people tell me its okay not to love anyone and i guess it is. there's a whole community there of people who are like me. i see them sometimes, talking about not feeling love and i think, yeah, me too.

but i used to feel like that. i spent five years suffocating at the thought of someone i couldnt touch and then five months wondering if this is really what everyone was talking about. i couldn't feel it. or maybe i could and i just didn't enjoy it.

i think i just like attention. i can get that from anywhere. im not pretty but i can be funny if i try. sometimes i write something that strikes a nerve and its never something i care about.

the things i put effort into seem to fail and the things i give up on succeed. maybe that's why im still here. i quit trying six months ago and no one seems to have noticed. i can float through life and get by fine.

at least she punched walls. at least she threw things. at least she hurt people. who am i? some shadow of a broken little girl, stuffed into a mans body that only feels right when other people acknowledge it.

i start trying to write how i feel down and i get stuck. i dont feel anything about him, three years later. some men really are just a guy. if i think back i cant identify what it was that got us here. he seems to think we're a miracle but i never believed in those.

am i just lazy? am i already a corpse? they say you get your final death when someone speaks your name for the last time. i keep shooting the little girl inside of me but people are still saying her name. i dont want her to die. i say her name in my head all the time. she screams at me. i think thats fair.

i know i love her. if nothing else, i love her. she didnt know any better. she didnt know what she was doing to me. i dont think she could conceive of me existing.

i dont think so hello!!! im doing okay i get to go clothes shopping for fall tomorrow bcuz its getting colder out and i own exactly one pair of long pants atm. so im excited for that. other than that im depressed but not in a sad way just in a meh way

they played together a lot when they were kids :D mostly bcuz tina didnt have any other friends and she was the only person who didnt mind jimmy junior's random dance breaks (which was very bad but she thought was amazing) but they played together during recess and after school :) neither bob nor pesto liked this but their wives were like stop being assholes this isnt about ur stupid rivalry they are five years old

tina and jimmy jr get cast as juliet and romeo in the shakesphere play for english class and both of them give it 110% (tina bcuz she relates to the romance aspect of juliet and jimmy jr bcuz he relates to the going against the family aspect of romeo) they both end up getting an A+ and make the teacher cry with their performances

tina was the first person outside his family that jimmy jr told about his parents getting a divorce. she found him crying during recess in like third grade and he told her everything. one of the only times tina has seen him genuinely cry (he tries to act tough around her most of the time)

they've already agreed to go to prom together AND made an agreement that if they've both single at 30 they'll get married. later in high school they make an amendment that if one of them discovers they arent straight they don't HAVE to get married but they still have to go to prom together as friends

once tina forgot to bring a jacket to school when it was cold & rainy and she was outside at recess shivering and miserable and jimmy jr offered her his jacket so she wouldn't be cold <3 very simple gesture but she will never let him forget it and calls it the most romantic thing he's ever done for her

jimmy jr really does care and worry about tina A LOT whenever she trips or hurts herself at school (which is a lot knowing tina) he's always the first person to ask if she's okay or if she needs to go to the nurse. he's always worried abt her bcuz she's pretty clumsy even if he acts cold and uncaring

they are VERY competitive when playing any type of game together like put them in a room with mario kart 8 and they become sworn enemies. they almost killed each other over a game of monopoly

their first date was in fifth grade. their class was going on a field trip to wonder wharf but jimmy jr and tina snuck off from everybody else & held hands and jimmy jr bought her cotton candy <3 they still like hanging out there sometimes although its hard not to bring their siblings along so it isnt really a date at that point

when people make fun of tina behind her back at school (usually tammy and jocelyn) jimmy jr will NEVER go along with it even if they broke up or they're fighting bcuz thats still his friend and he doesnt want to be mean to her. he will defend her if it comes down to it but usually they just stop when he doesn't laugh or he says "that isnt cool guys"

they like passing each other little notes during class with doodles or hearts or whatever and tina keeps them all in a special box in her bedroom. jimmy jr probably forgets about 90% of them but he saved a few too

jimmy jr and tina have never missed each other's birthday since they were in kindergarten :) all the way until they graduate high school they go every single year even if they arent really talking or they're dating other people and they always invite each other. the closest they ever got to missing one was when jimmy jr's dad didnt let him attend her 13th birthday but he made it in the end hehe

i have been waiting for an ask like this. you dont even know. i looove fun facts and i have a few laying around.

gonna stick to my main character ocs since they have the most stuff about them- i have some side ocs like rue and rene but they are not nearly as developed, so there'd be little to no fun facts for them

also gonna try and keep this, somewhat organized but it's bound to devolve.

rhea:

originally she was going to be shipped with. shudders. fern.

i got the idea to kill her parents in a fire from an idea from a year prior to making her, where the main character's home burnt down mysteriously and a wild absol saved them, forcing them to embark on a journey. i never developed this idea much further so i instead recycled elements from this to make rhea and sara.

that main character's pokemon included every eeveeloution, hence where i got her theme from.

originally rhea was also going to be an empath but i figured i liked her being autistic instead, so i switched it.

yes she is canonically autistic

she's polyam! right now the idea is her to be shipped with victoria and saphira.

her family heirloom is called the obsidian starshard- it is the 5th key to the ruins under reborn. long ago one of her ancestors (i assume a grandparent,) stole the starshard and fled reborn for alola. a small branch of the guardians of the ruins chased after them to retrieve it, but they were always evaded. it eventually led to her mother passing it down to her to keep the organization on their toes when they caught up to her years later.

that eventually ended up leading rhea back to reborn. small world, huh?

rhea constantly squeezes her starshard. it comforts her

her name is pronounced ray-a. its technically wrong, but i think it suits her more.

born in puerto vallarta mexico, imani was set up for the simple life. her family owned house right on the beach where her mother, father, and grandparents all lived. she was the first born and with that came spoils beyond anything she could imagine. her parents had always dreamed of having a big family, living out their weekends having breakfast in their garden, lunch on the beach, and dinner at the dining table with every seat filled. but when they learned imani was deaf, they initially reconsidered. but went on to have 3 more kids two boys and another girl and while they had their own ailments, imani was the only one who was completely deaf.  

she was two years old when her family learned that she couldn’t hear them, and that they’d not only have to learn a new language but look into new ways to parent too. the community they lived in was small, there wasn’t a lot of resources for her, and while her family tried to push through the hardships they felt that imani’s education and overall social environment were suffering more than it needed to and began to save to move to new york. they arrived when imani was 14 years old, and though they’d saved up for at least five years before the move; it still took quite a hit to their finances. both her father and her mother picked up second jobs so that they could keep up with living expenses and also continue to purchase aids for imani like vibrating alarm clocks, asl classes for the family ( since they had learned lsm in mexico and it was the language she was most comfortable in ), and trying to save up for cochlear implants.

this meant that imani spent a lot of time on her own. her siblings didn’t mind translating for her when they were out running around with the local neighborhood kids, but she wanted people to communicate with her directly instead of going through her siblings. since she lived around the corner from a comic bookstore, her father made fast friends with the owner and asked if she could spend time there after school so she wouldn’t be in the house alone. it wasn’t long before she was losing herself in all the comics in the store. she was always disappointed when her father came to pick her up or the store had to close for the evening. she swore she read every comic in that store throughout her high school career more than three times and would do it even more if given the chance.

she grew very fond of the owner and his children. they would give her recs, and always meet her with a new word, phrase, or sentence they learned in asl. they’d read comics together at timed intervals and write each other notes and doodles about what they were currently thinking about what they were reading and where they thought it would go. it was through those reading sessions that imani and the owner’s oldest child decided that they should work on a comic series together. 

and any time outside of their asl classes and school in general would be spent trying to craft the perfect superhero stories; one shots, spinoffs, volume long series; they tried it all. and imani had a great outlet for getting everything she was feeling out onto the page. while the comic that she’d started with the owner’s oldest child never took off or got published, it did help her get her foot in the door at marvel comics.

she was 23 years old when their comic finally made it to the desk of an editor, and while they didn’t want that specific story, they could see that she had a vision and plenty of stories to tell. they recently introduced echo, one of their first deaf characters, and wanted her to sign onto the team which she agreed to happily. 

she was able to pay the 50k for her cochlear implant and surprised her family with it that same year at christmas. despite the implant, she continued to prefer signing along with her speech and asking others to do the same. she never lost her day dreaming or her doodling, and traveled the world but always longed to be back by the beach. despite her love of comics and all the work she's grateful enough to do, ecology had always been a strong love of hers. she's a plant fanatic and chile is own to some of her favorite plants so when she decided to settle down and open up her own plant shop, opening one in chile made the most sense. she never expected to fall in love as much as she did, but nearly twenty years in the city? it was safe to say she had no plans on leaving.

learning the languages and getting adjusting to her cochlear was really hard at first. it got overwhelming very fast and still does sometimes so there are days where she just wont have the earpiece in at all as a mental reset for herself bc she went so long without it it helps ground her again

very family orientated and talks to her siblings and parents at least twice a day. they come to visit her often and she loves having company so there’s always a guest bedroom ready for anyone

has two kitties echo and miles after her two favorite projects. 

a crocheter !! if she’s not drawing she usually has some yarn in her hand crafting something.

the thing about mikoto of milgram fame is that hes like. okay. so theres a lot that cant be said about him yet because his 2nd trial hasnt released and wont be for quite a while and his music video and interrogation only tell us so much. but what they DO tell us is um. enough to say some things if he answered his interrogation questions honestly, we know he has a younger sister he brags about, his parents are divorced and his father isnt involved in their lives. in regards to his mother, he says that “she raised me. i cant let her worry.” he downplays his own interests/hobbies a lot. he said he played baseball in high school but that he wasnt good at it; he went to an art school but did so in order to go into business (though design was related to his chosen company) and says that he likes drawing but, again, isnt good at it. he says he hates working late nights but we see him pulling an all nighter at work in ‘undercover’. when asked why hes working his current job, he says he worked incredibly hard to even get hired, so its something to be proud of. finally, when asked if he ever gets angry, he says he doesnt. he says, “i dont think ive ever gotten angry before. isnt it disgraceful to get angry?” theres also the following milgram portal conversation (src):

Attention. The general public doesn't really care about them. They are together, okay. They have a 16-year age gap, okay. Their relationship isn't something that has never happened before; maybe it was shocking for a month, and for 2 days after they drop something, but another day, another drama. I think she likes the fact that she is being talked about, just like Justin. Maybe it's only happening on a small part of Tumblr and Twitter, but people still talk about her. About whether she was the one who sent the screenshots of the story to blogs or accounts or who edited it, whether it's an old picture or a newer one, or whether she was at the party.

We are the ones who have been selling this "relationship" since the very beginning. We are the ones who were talking about this whole thing when the GP didn't even know who she was. During the time when they didn't even want to come forward as a "couple", but we still talked about them and there were even articles about them maybe being together, we helped sell the narrative. The GP doesn't care whether Alba and Chris were at Jamie's birthday party or whether Chris and Alba were having dinner with Scarlett, Josh, and Robert. We care about it because we do. And also because the fans are divided; some of them think it's real, and some of them think it's not, and each group is trying to find evidence of its own truth. Most people don't care about them being at parties or at each other's houses, but fans do, and it's needed to sell a relationship, to make it organic and natural, just like a normal relationship, especially in their case when it doesn't seem like they want to do pap walks and public appearances. There are a lot of people who, after watching a story like this, may not have started believing they are real, but it definitely crossed their minds, or they went on fully believing it is. Being at your place and spending time with your family are good options for selling a relationship.

It's not about them posting a picture of being somewhere, but the fact they are constantly using older content and pictures and videos that were taken in his house. Like Alba's and Justin's post for Joana's birthday party. They've been friends for years, and do we really think Alba didn't have another picture of her just like the one that was taken in Chris's hot tub? Or that Justin was forced to post the photo and video of Joana, which were taken in Chris's VT house? The pictures that Ana posted also look old. She was never alone when they created any content, so it's not that surprising that her circle was there too.

I get it. This whole thing can be really confusing sometimes. It's just my opinion, and I could be wrong too, so...😅

 I'm thinking she might be of native descent (though whether it's registered is another matter) So she and Red don't look all that similar, and in case I do a willow bark AU it makes sense for her to have inherited characteristics

Well, she's shorter than Red, (reds parents were tall people) like maybe 5'8. She has dark brown hair and light brown eyes. She gets pretty annoyed at people assuming that she's not related to red, because of her skin, which later is echoed with Red being able to act super offended at anyone who doesn't believe Desmond is her cousin or whatever excuse she's giving.

She's well muscled from her training, prefers to wear warmer coloured shirts, contrasting Reds cool coulors.

She has very nice teeth and has previously worn braces.

She doesn't need a prescription, but wears sunglasses often

Her counterpart meanwhile, is 5'9 didn't turn out to need braces because his mouth didn't have extra teeth,  has lighter hair and skin then she does (taking more after mom in most verses), but startlingly dark eyes.

He's not as muscular as his not twin, but he's not in bad shape, and once impersonated her for a prank when he was younger.

He's growing a beard, and his hair long, in an effort to be less mistaken as her (is everyone colour blind mom? Probably)3

ahh thank you baby!!! no it's okay I didn't make a big deal about my birthday this year so it's fine 😊 it was the day after we got back from our road trip and I stayed with my sister for a few days and just hung out with her! she got me some cute lil harry coded fruit hair clips and made me dinner and we had cake and ice cream and watched a movie with her roommate!

oh no I don't mind saying what happened! I honestly thought I had already said, I'm sorry! my mom and I were leaving to go grocery shopping and I got kicked by a horse. I am doing better I've made a TON of progress but still feel like I have a long way to go. like doing simple things still takes a lot of my energy sometimes! like I said I was supposed to start a new job working at a daycare as a lead teacher and I think I'm gonna have to give that up now, because I can't imagine being able to work a full shift doing something like that 😔 which just kind of makes me feel lost rn as to what to do for income because I so had my heart set on working there!

seeing stevie live was magical like I cannot even describe the good energy I felt while being there ✨ it was my first big outing after my accident and we had seats so I was able to sit down when I needed to (which was a lot more than I wanted to but it’s okay).

our road trip was only a few hours away but it was to see my little brother who we hadn’t see since december of 2021! we spent 4 days there and didn’t get to do a lot, but it was still great to visit him and his girlfriend. we hung out by the pool, ate at some cute little restaurants, saw the new little mermaid movie, and did some shopping 😊

1. What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

Nothing for me truly feels better than going out down town with my friends. I love downtown with all of my heart so getting to show my friends my favorite place feels so magical. I love the book store down town i need to buy more books for sure!

2. What type of music are you into?

I am into so much music which I know is a generic statement but its true if I ever had to pick a favorite genre it would likely be old female jazz music. women talking about the reality of life how sometimes ur not beautiful sometimes you just cry and chain smoke cigarettes.

3. What was the best vacation you ever took and why?

When I was in the 6th grade before i came out i had a secret girlfriend and her family was SUPER rich. she and i went to montanna and then Wyoming i got to see yellow stone and also smell all the sulfer. everycorner had an icecream shop it was also the first time I went ziplining/ tight roping which was terrifying but perfect!

4. Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?

I would absolutely love to go to the JIm henson mueseum. I have always admired the whymsy of his art especially fraggle rock and dark crystal!

5. What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?

About 2 years ago i left a toxic friend group I used to have to devote all my time to them so when I left I had so much time to pick up hobbies. I draw,scuplt, throw knives, dance, sing, crochet, read, paint, thrift, and many other things.

8 was the best age for me. I was very smart compared to the rest of my  class back then along with that I also had my best birthday that year i asked for a mystic doll with a reverseable head and I also got a tiny donut keychain. It was perfect

Of mice and men. I havent finished it yet but holy shit it sad. I feel for Lennie very heavily i know what it feels like to be confused or to like something that ends up being something someone takes.

Extrovert! my whole life everyone told me I was an introvert but I truly dont think I am. I am just an anxious extrovert.

Beef on Netflix was so good truly and had a lot of nuance especially in the art world.

Easy peasy pb and j. I have really bad stomach issues so I started eating blander food so i dont have to constantly take meds.pb and j can be made so differently along with that it give you everything you need!

I love the theater its so fun to share the movie experience with strangers it makes me happpy to spend time with people.

The little things

Just a lil something i wrote while trying to get out of my creative block let me know you y'all want more ;)

Castellano tiredly dragged his and his wifes full suitcases through their house to their shared bedroom while she played in the living room with their pups he was tasked with unpacking their vacation bags. Throwing the cases on the bed the wolf scratched his head wondering if rich or cam had even unpacked their own bags yet, although his thoughts didnt wonder too far as there was a knock on the front door. "I got it!" He called out knowing how much his wife elle missed her pups and how much the two pups missed their parents so he didnt want who ever it was to disturb them. Swiftly opening the door he found his father looking quite confused and uneasy, "hey cas sorry to bother you during this happy little reunion" looking past his son benny saw ellie and the pups playing happily "but let me talk to you privately for a minute". Taking a step back the older wolf motioned for his son to follow to which he did closing the door behind him, "okay pops whats wrong? Is it mom? Did the pups do something while they were over there? awe man i knew we should of left them with jack in the north" cas groaned knowing how rowdy and wild his kids could be sometimes especially when joined by their cousins. benny chuckled shaking his head "no son its not that but i was wondering did your mother seem strange to you earlier when you and your siblings came to pick up the pups from our house?" Crossing his arms cas went over the days earlier exchange with his mother in his head. furrowing his brows castellano shrugged shaking his head nothing out of the ordinary coming to mind which baffled his father even more "well cause when i got home from checking out the shop she was unusually quiet and a little stiff you know how your mother is and thats not normal" the younger wolf nodded. it was a sign of warning when his mother was quiet which meant one of two things either she was upset or his dad was in the dog house, most of the time it was the latter rather than the former which explain why he was asking his son instead of his wife. benito gave a deep sigh before ultimately giving up "i know it cant be something i did cause its not her birthday or our anniversary, i got her a bouqet of white lillies the other day so it cant be me" the two shrugged "i dont know dad you'll have to ask her this time" nodding the older wolf turned to leave "give my love to my daughter in law and have fun with your pups figlio". waving goodbye benny left walking towards home to do the impossible since having to ask his wife why she was upset would only make her more upset which in turn might land him in the dog house anyway. the alpha shuddered at the thought of his wifes wrath, sure he was the alpha the leader in the relationship and her loving protector but all that went out the window when she was angry with him and getting back in her good graces wasnt always easy.

Approaching the front door cautiously benny looked around for something to grab to act like he was busy just passing through as a back up plan for a quick escape "always got to think ahead benny boy" repeating his own fathers words to himself he grabbed a box of tools he left out on the porch before walking inside. immediately upon walking in he heard his wifes sniffles and whimpers coming from the kitchen, almost dropping the box benny rushed to her finding vivian at the table teary eyed looking through an old family album of theirs. Instantly going into worried husband mode he put down the tool box holding his wifes tear streaked face in his hands "cara mia" seeing her pouty face always made his heart break "whats wrong amore mio?" he asked looking softly into her eyes as she babbled he just tried to calm her. holding her close to him while she sobbed into his shoulder benny took a peak at the page in question she was crying over and then it all clicked, "benito querido i want a baby!" viv exclaimed loudly holding him tight "i miss our pups being little and having our grandpups around just made me miss it more!". Benny tensed up at the thought of having another little trouble maker running around their small home "amore is that all?" playing it off like it wasnt such a big deal the wolf lifted his wife from her chair carrying her to their shared room laying her on the bed "you sit right here and ill be right back okay let me go put my tools away" kissing her head backing away she stopped him. Vivian had an iron grip on her husbands shirt "hurry back okay mi corazon" her pouty face almost made him want to stay but the stone grip she had drove her point home very clearly "of course fiore" softly kissing her face once more she finally let him go. the alpha let out a breath he didnt know he was holding once he was out of the room now was his chance to run, it started off slow and swift before he broke out into a full sprint not even grabbing his tools to put away. benny had to think of somewhere to hide out for a little bit until his wifes baby fever went away, "im sure my sons wont mind some company" he said to himself quickly rushing off to the bunker that dean and sam had put together for their hunts.

Once there he banged on the door like his life depended on it which maybe it did since when he left benny could tell vivians neediness was getting more severe and primal as it always often did when she had her little fits of possesive wanting. sighing relieved as sam opened the door benny walked right in seeing dean at the large table cas and rich built for them that was adorned with decorative wolves and trees, "alright you two i need your help right now" dean stood up at once "what happened old man?" He asked concerned "nothing serious i just need to stay here since viv wont look here for me". The two brothers looked at each other settling down after ben had riled them up as if it was a life or death emergency "okay ben what did you do this time?" The alpha growled "thats just it sammy boy i didnt do anything my wife wants a baby so for the sake of my safety im hiding out here" dean scoffed at the old wolf. "Okay papa wolf you can stay here for a little while but just until mama wolf calms down but why run from her?" dean sat back putting his feet up "because son my little adorable wife who you lovingly call mama becomes a feral love beast when she gets like this and she wont stop until she gets her way how do you think cas got here? so Ive learned its best to just stay out of sight until this blows over". furrowing his brows sam crossed his arms "so why not just give her what she wants that seems a little smarter if you ask me" benny laughed and shook his head looking at dean "you can tell hes never slept with a crazy baby hungry wolf" the two shared a knowing laugh both having wolf mates and knowledge of what it was like "but if you must know sam we're old our pups are grown and we have grandpups, that would just be us starting over again and i dont know about her but im not ready for that again". The brothers shrugged going back to work as the wolf leaned back and relaxed thinking to himself this was going to be a long couple of days but at least he was in familiar company with no worries of his love hungry shewolf finding him, hopefully.

Lessons from my cacoon #1

My healing does not take place in a vaccuum. As much as i want it to...

I got in an arguement w... actually most of my friends yesterday. See, my 24th birthday is coming up and as much as i despite capitalism, it kinda popped off on "the giftgiving for birthdays" thing (not christmas just birthdays, if i was born to consume, then you can celebrate my life with a gift just for being born). And i do want to say that i have NEVER said, "you MUST give me gifts" i get that sometimes you dont have the money or dont know what to get them or maybe you arent close, whatever.

But in all my life, i felt bad abt ppl splurging on me. And i have always been shy to ask for things or favors or freaking love in general. And that is something i wanted to unpack.

So i sent my birthday wishlist to my family and my friends. Unashamed. And im still unashamed despite the argument.

The fight was about how in the last couple years not everyone has been getting gifts, some ppl are getting nothing so we should just not do gifts this year.

Now i get it, that sucks to not get gifts on your birthday from ppl that you think love you! Totally understandable. And they said it had happened two years in a row (the covid years mind you) so they assumed we werent doing gifts anymore.

I was... well mainly angry. I was upset that they didnt take into account my financial situation compared to theirs, or covid or the fact that this conversation was SUPPOSED to be about me but somehow we are planning a birthday party for EVERYONE now (they planned a new holiday: birthday day, which is exactly what it sounds like)

I was so upset i had to blow off steam atbthe gym. I worked out for 90 minutes. Thats the longest and hardest ive ever worked out in my life! And i know im gonna be sore tomorrow.

But after some actual reflection i realized a couple things:

Im actually pretty proud that my friend spoke her mind. Id been preaching that to them for a while now. I wished it could have been brought up around THEIR birthdays but we do have a solution now to the problem bc they spoke up. However i respond can not discourage that!

I knew their feelings are justified in feeling hurt, and that my feelings are justified that the conversation could have been brought up at different time. Both can be true for sure. But NONE OF US ARE PERFECT! Im not perfect and my friend isnt perfect and the rest of our friends arent perfect. And i cant expect perfect interactions or perfectly timed confrontations or a gift every year. And life isnt perfect. We make mistakes and go broke and hurt each others feelings and frustrate each other.

And lastly and most importantly, i realized that like, even tho i wasnt the only person who didnt get these ppl gifts, i still did not get them gifts. My financial and mental issues are unimportant here! Handmade gifts are awesome! Despite finally having a decent job and finally clawing my way out if the depths of my mental hell all that is internal. I loved my friends then and i love them now and yet, even then, i didnt... idk make them cards, i didnt do what i could at the time. I was wrapped in myself and my insecurities and just... didnt think of them.

And so those points in history have already happened, and have been processed, and suddenly im healing and coming up and all i can do is make up for it. Bc those experiences dont exist in a vaccuum.

Of course im not at the pinnacle of my healing journey so i still have some pretty toxic mental gymnastics flipping around my brain. But by the time their birthdays rolls around it should be done.

I feel like i only barely made sense here :/

My point is everyone who let their mental health affect their behavior and is coming out of that will probrably have to go on an apology tour.

And my point is also if you have a fixable problem, be sure to point it out. Ppl may not even realize its an issue.

and these are the "essentials" for christmas. its way funnier if you dont have an image for these foods, and you make them up in your head first, and then see if what you think it is coincides with the real deal. all these with some variations are all over the former eastern bloc, especially the slavic countries. this part of europe is so fun, man.

went Christmas shopping today, saw panetone. prophecy came true. one panetone to rule them all!

You're right, it IS overwhelming to decide what to get. Btw, my family never really used to exchange gifts during the holidays, but the last couple of years we did it. When my sister and I were kids, our parents would ask us what we wanted as a birthday gift (my sister's birthday is on December 29th, and mine is on December 25th lol), but we never put it under the Christmas tree because they were, well, birthday gifts. And I never knew what to ask! It is way harder than it seems!

This year, though, I bought really simple gifts for my parents, my sister and our dog ❤️ they are under the tree right now (the gifts haha). My sister gave me a dress I liked while we went shopping, my mom gave me a door stopper (cuz I was really in need of one) and my dad gave me very beautiful shoes. We also bought gifts for the newborn baby of my sister's sister-in-law and my sister's husband, who came back with her from the big city where they're living for the holidays and brought gifts for us (is it too confusing?). Anyway, here's a picture of our tree :)

From friends I only get birthday gifts, when I get something. But I do like to give Christmas presents to them, sometimes I do :) What about you, do you exchange gifts with your family/friends?

The traditional food you mentioned seems very interesting. I know sarmale, dear Santa! We call it "charuto" here, it's a dish that we usually find at Arabic restaurants. Is borş a beet soup? My mom told my she made it once. Btw, I've always wanted to know if turkish delight is good ever since I watched Narnia haha! Do you like it?
