18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
Passage:
When you get held captive for 2 months, lines get blurry.
"Did you think you could get rid of me that easy?" Slade chuckled. “Ah, kiddo. It’s going to take a lot more than a little push to kill me” He dragged his sword against the floor. "Normal people don't survive that"
He climbed out from under the desk, and made his way to the middle of the room to have the most space to fight back. “Weird flex but okay”
Just the whole Slade and Robin thing-
AYO MY SLADE AND ROBIN FIC???? Ngl that was a jumpscare lmaooooo
Okay so this fic started because I just really really wanted to write a renegade fic and I had pieces of it written in my draft but never like a full thing and I still have some in my drafts- but I decided to flesh it out and boom the renegade fic was born
I wanted a fun banter between them (actually lemme see the drafts I can find) on second thought let’s not- (I found them but it’s kinda like not the best) okay wait timeout I kinda ate with this-
Here’s some of the other drafts that inspired it but didn’t make the cut:
Scene:
No no no this wasn't supposed to happen. Robin stared down at his team mates, not really processing anything at all, all crying out in pain on the ground while he held the knife. None of this was supposed to happen, they had an agreement.
His friends. The people he grew close with and called them a second family. They laughed together, cried together, worked together. They were supposed to grow up together. He wasn't supposed to be the source of their pain.
"Slade stop it" he begged. "SLADE I AGREED TO DO EVERYTHING YOU WANTED ME TO DO. STOP IT"
"You didn't do everything"
"I don't kill"
"Well, face the consequences"
Dick had a moral crisis. He couldn't block out his friends screams. At that moment he made a split second decision. He grabbed the knife and held it to his throat.
"Stop it or I'll cut" Dick gave an ultimatum. He didn't have a death wish but if it was his friends or himself? He'd sacrifice himself in a heartbeat.
"Don't do it" Wally managed to get out through the blur of pain.
"I'm sorry"
Tense seconds went by, and Dick drove the knife deeper into his skin. He cut through a thin layer of skin, he could feel the blood drip down his throat.
After a minute the screams stopped
"Well-played" Claps echoed from his com. "It'll only work once Grayson. You aren't as valuable as you think. Return to base or I'll start it again" As a final note, Dick was shocked by his own bodysuit. Wasting no time, he gave a two-fingered salute and retreated.
He doesn't know when he'll see his friends again, or his dad. But until it's over he hopes to never see them again. He can't afford to hurt them. So what if it costs him his life? They'll be safe and that's all that mattered.
-
I have other scenes but this one of my favorites. The others were uh not the best written but I don’t mind cause I just wrote them to get the idea out
But for the specific scene in the ask, it didn’t change too much I really did want the “weird flex but okay” bit to stay the stuff that changed in the fic was how slade was introduced and the timeline of it all like deciding if I wanted to be an aftermath fic or a during the arc, and all that jazz
Slade being creepy with the dragging the swords was also intentional I wanted him to have that mysterious vibe and I think I showed that pretty well
By far one of the fics I’m most proud of and my most popular one!

still thinking about how even just the decision to basically act like the shiekah tech never existed is just ... so baffling to me
bc again you could have done all the sonau tech does with shiekah instead, and they were perfect to be explored more in a sequel, why wouldnt you grasp that potential, the literal building blocks for more??
if you are that tired of shiekah tech .. dont make it a fuckign sequel to the game prominently featuring it???? totk doesnt take place generations after botw in which things could have changed drastically, its just a few years afterwards??
you want to reuse the map and get rid of shiekah tech? ok fine take LINK into the past then and the focus is for you to find a way to return; do some neat twist where its revealed that link was the one who sealed gan bc he couldnt defeat him without zelda or something if you dare (they wouldnt)
want less work than that and still reuse the map and get rid of shiekah tech AND reuse characters? ok then make it some alternate universe thingy like majoras mask in which everythign is the same but also isnt, its weird and creepy how characters you thoguht you knew suddendly dont act like themselves, shiekah tech doesnt exist, malice is now miasma, etc, it would give reason to why you feel so much like something about this world is familiar yet also very wrong
as far as im aware every "sequel" we have had so far were either generations apart from the first one, some alternate universe or a different location altogether- in all of which its plausible that things are different, things seem weirdly familiar but also wrong, or that another continent just works different from hyrule
but totk does none of that, its supposedly just a few years after the first game, same world same character, but its BUILT like some strange jumbled mess of stuff from botw and new stuff out of nowhere that just .. doesnt fit, but feeling a strange sense of otherness, a déja vu of something you know but it acts off, like an imposter, thats NOT intentional and it shows, its a mess of botw stuff, from stuff that people missed from the old games and entirely new stuff; i dont doubt it CAN work but the way it turned out is like a mix of 3 different puzzles forced together and being told 'see it fits!' even tho you can clearly see the pieces dont look right in these places
again it feels like a sequel that desperately wants you to forget the first game happened, that anythign from it mattered at all
and that isnt really ... the sense of a sequel? why insist on it being one when it only creates problems? is it marketing?? just like it was marketing to call age of calamity a telling of what happened before botw but then it wasnt that at all and that is still the sole reason why i dislike it? bc i was lied to? totk is like 10000 times worse than that, its a main title and doesnt even have the excuse of yeah its basically an excuse to play all your fav characters in fun ways and the game beign well aware that being its main appeal; what is totk appeal? a toybox with botw aestethic and none of the flavor?
(on a sidenote; the sonau tech doesnt even .. matter? in botw at least calamity ganon was made of shiekah tech parts and him overtaking other tech is a big point, the sonau tech doesnt serve anything but .. idk minerus useless mech? gan doesnt even aknowledge it, he doesnt care, all it is is toys for the player, not link, but the player.
the monsters mining the tech materials? what for? gan doesnt give a damn and they dont work for the yiga either??)
i said it before but it gives me the feeling that the way botw invited you to theorize, to look beneath the surface, the way it intrigued you and laid the groundwork for so many interesting things without denying anything.. was accidental? or perhaps put in the game without the directors noticing?
i cant stop thinking about them saying sth like "after botw zelda wondered if the kingdom of hyrule needed to keep existing the way it had been before the calamity, but then totk happens" bc it just feels like they realized too late that botw naturally led into questioning the status quo and they scrambled to fit it back into a flat and boring road we have seen so many times before (or even worse really) with totk
zeldas character naturally leads into her questioning and reexamine their history and set of rules? we gotta teach her a lesson of why she is importante god given monarchy girl that has to keep it bc what if evil brown man shows up again for no reason
maybe im grasping at straws here but looking at it this way the sonau .. make more "sense"; the shiekah were a group that was under the rule of the royal family, and misstreated before (oh no look soemthing interesting) so they dont lend themselves well to be used for teaching zelda that lesson- the sonau however are tailored really to be just that; they are a supposedly godly race from the literal sky that founded this version of hyrule, that had tech even more advanced and better than the shiekah, she gets put in the past to meet the perfect god king of goodness personally, also his very fridgy wifey that zelda later replaces in a way, shes put there and treated like family and then gets to see just how evil that evil big man from the desert is, sonia is falcon-punched to death solely so zelda can feel obligated to take over her role, have her new, better 'family' hurt by gan; similarly so raurus sacrifice, look what a noble and good king he is, he payed the ultimate price to lock that evil man away, now zelda you cannot let their sacrifice go to waste, rebuild that divinely good kingdom like it was!!
and even though they go so much out of their way to put the cart back onto the rails of black and white-good and evil in an even flatter way than the old games, it still doesnt feel right, at least to me, it still feels like zelda shouldnt have gone along with all of that, it feels like even her character from botw was walked back entirely, except for the intro, it made her feel like a stranger to me-
because this is a sequel, i know this zelda, she wouldnt act like that after all that shes been through, this feels ... off
and it all just insulting to anyone who cared about botw more than surface level, or the zelda lore in general, i dont even care much about the timeline, but theres alot of lore and themes beyond it that felt ignored, especially so given that .. its a damn sequel, non AU, not generations apart, directly part 2-
but its not.
it even feels very "corporate", put zelda in a dress again, people liked that, put crazy abilities in the game to flashbang people with how insane it is even if its not the best for the gameplay or the story, put a new asthetic into it out of nowhere bc its 'new' and act like its been there the whole time, put gan in there bc people miss him and find him sexy even if his role is just as flat as that of an evil cloud monster-
*sigh*
you know, i saw a post that said aoc was like a bad fanfic (affectionate) and totk was like a bad fanfic (derogatory) and tbh thats like one of the best comparisons/summaries i have seen ..

fav alnst round so far? (mines is round 6 because i love pain and sorry to break it to you but I literally had no reaction when best boy ivan died.hes dead guys accept it.)
Favorite ALNST round... I'd have to say ROUND 5. The concept of the whole thing is just so spectacular not only in set design but in character dynamics as well. The despair and mockery that lines the whole thing is fantastic.
I particularly adore the way this round further connects the concept of death with the color white. The stage which Luka and Mizi perform on is fully white in color because it's built from the bones of an ancient creature, something of a memorial site. In certain shots, the spine of this creature is very clear. The whole area is ethereal and invokes not only a sense of reverence, but unease, too. It's haunting, almost hollow, and just like its origin, lifeless.
The moon that shines behind Luka is almost as big and bright as a white dwarf, a dying star that has exhausted itself of life.
And of course, the association with death is further emphasized once images of Sua appear.
There's something to be said about the fact that this stage is from the bones of an ancient creature, one that was respected enough for its bones to be repurposed in its honor. A deep reverence, worship, even.
It's painfully fitting for Luka to dance upon the remains of a creature so revered while he toys with Sua's image. A form of mockery, of disrespect, especially to the one who worshipped her. In both the literal and metaphorical sense, he tramples over dead gods.
It's important to note that in this round there are two performers but three participants: Mizi, Luka, and Sua. The feeling of death is something that permeates throughout the entire round because everyone involved has been forced to face it. This shared trait manifests itself as their most striking visual aspect: their white attire.
With the insight gained from Luka's relationship with Heperu, it's safe to say that Luka has experienced the feeling of death firsthand. He has quite literally died and then come back to life.
There's the factor of his purple fingertips, a result of his weak physical condition that keeps him on the precipice of life and death. Combined with his extremely pale complexion, his imperturbable disposition and obssession with heartbeats, Luka seems like a body on its way to a corpse, desperately clinging onto his last hopes of life. Staving off the coldness of death for as long as possible and monitoring his own body so that demise is confined to just the tips of his fingers.
Sua's connection to death is obvious. She has died, she is death.
A point of interest, however, is the fact that while everyone is dressed in white, only Luka and Sua share the colors of white and black. They both have these colors in their design, but in opposite places. The black of Sua's design lies on top of her white, while vice-versa for Luka as his lies at the bottom. It works exceptionally well with their state of their characters. Sua as the dead that crosses into the living, and Luka as the living that toes the line of death.
As someone who watched her god die in front of her own eyes, Mizi dons a gown of pure white just like the others. The difference is her second color, a light pink layer resting atop her dress.
Pink has associations with innocence and childishness, and in its more washed out and subdued state (light pink = pink mixed with white, innocence tainted by death) it's a perfect fit for the circumstances.
It's only during her aggressive outburst, when Mizi has death directly pointed at her that the pink layer begins to rip. Completely shedding her innocence, giving way to complete white. Dressing her for death.
Luckily, Hyuna arrives just in time (clad in black, life) to save her.
ROUND 5 has always been a complete masterpiece to me, and the more I think about it the better it gets. A dying man trying to stay alive, a white-clad widow and the haunting apparition of her dead god all performing this sick dance of death upon the bones of a creature who was exploited for spectacle and performance.

Experiencing weird feelings regarding someone identifying as a w******, it certainly isn't my place to assume they aren't native american but it still strikes an uncomfortable chord in me as they seem to be unaware of cultural attitudes towards the spirit. Have there been community discussions surrounding this topic before? I'd really be curious to hear them, and to especially hear from native alterhumans from whose cultures this spirit belongs.

So what makes Cal Kestis so beloved to you?
gosh where do i even begin!!
he is such a good person at heart. i love my angsty antiheroes and bad people doing bad things for bad reasons.
but cal is just. good. he struggles against his darker impulses and, for the most part, he wins. he's naive in so many ways, he's struggling to come to terms with the idea that the world he's fighting for no longer exists, he's struggling with the emotional weight of being The Last TM of an order that exists now only in the the rose colored memories of youth, and those memories are skewed by grief and loss and yearning to not be Alone with that loss
but he tries. he tries so fucking hard every single day. and throughout it all, he's kind to droids and animals and children and bystanders and just!!!!!
as much as i love angst and lone wolf characters who are Doomed by the Narrative to just struggle and never catch a single second of a break and just Suffer at every turn and die alone in a ditch somewhere, watching a character who's on a different path than that is really impactful to me, personally. it's easy to surround yourself with grimdark bullshit, especially when you're drowning in your own misery.
but cal just has a kind heart and tries and tries and tries and even though that's very often to his detriment, it comes from the right place. and that's just really special to me.

As a LaiKabuMisu enjoyer, I never thought I'd need to see desperate Mithrun->Kabru before in my life, thank you so much for the food in these dark times.
desperate mithrun just makes me GIGGLE like the meme i made takes it a bit far for comedy's sake but it's like. this guy who only recently began to live for something else other than revenge and it's thanks to kabru and suddenly kabru dissapears his from life because he has a "job" . we've already seen mithrun go sulky when kabru doesn't side with him despite having valid reasons not to LOL (sfx: hmph)
i truly can see the momentary disconnect (i doubt this lasts very long or at least doesn't manifest obviously. mithrun is a quiet and ultimately rational guy) where he's like "... i thought kabru was gonna stay with me though?" and not even necessarily in a romantic light (for starters anyway). just in the way that mithrun just counted on kabru's companionship, but when adult schedules and establishing a kingdom collide, i think kabru would also equally have a hard time giving up what he works very hard for (protecting humans/short-lived races and being able to help govern so that this is possible). i can absolutely see kabru accidentally neglecting his relationships for too long, and not realising until his party intervenes, or mithrun 'hmph's at him again and he's like '..what did i do.'
sorry for the essay . tldr: i would like to picture mithrun sulking :)

dude i'm not even into ofmd but seeing that its cancelled is like ?? like what the fuck thats fucked dude. just from an outsiders perspective it seemed like the show had a lot of heart put into it and the fans were super passionate (which doesnt really factor into whether or not a show gets cancelled but still) its just so weird to see
i think that’s the part that’s so devastating. i was always wary bc the show existing at all felt like a miracle, but when the cast and crew themselves started hinting at renewal, i had really high hopes. the reviews were great. there was sustained enthusiasm for the show for weeks even after it finished airing. 3 months after s2, folks were waiting for a renewal announcement — not if we’d be renewed, but when
and it just……i’m so tired, you know? i took a chance on this silly little show and it legitimately changed my life and introduced me to so many wonderful people. it was unapologetically queer and groundbreaking in so many ways. there’ll never be anything quite like it
so to have it ripped out from under us just feels awful. we all knew it wasn’t going to last forever, but we thought we had time
we were supposed to have time

Amateur Hour but I gotta outsource this. Aromantics. Heed my call. What is "romantic" love to a non-believer?
Bonus Round if you're not entirely ace -- does experiencing any amount of sexual attraction influence your answer? Also acknowledging that both aro/ace identities exist on a spectrum. Believe me. I am deeply familiar... with so many kinds of spectrums........... 🧍
Also if this breaches containment It's Not That Serious........... just a personal question. For a friend. Me 🙂↕️

I wonder what it is about breaking up with someone and starting new that I find so upsetting. I realize that people also find break ups heartbreaking, but I know I take it to an extreme. I've never liked the idea of having different partners throughout my life. The idea of having an ex has always been something I hated. The type of breakup didn't matter to me. That is to say whether we ended on good or bad terms didn't make the idea of ending a relationship better to me. I'm not trying to be pretentious about it, I'm just being fr about a sentiment I've held for as long as I can remember. I've never been the type of person who enjoyed the idea of hook ups or casual dating. For better or worse, I've always held the belief that romantic relationships should be all in and serious from the beginning.
I think this feeling is definitely exacerbated by the fact that I've been passed up for another person before so I know what it's like to have someone "move on" from you, and it genuinely sucks like all fucking hell lmao. So the idea of "moving on" and being with someone else has been incredibly tarnished for me.
