On FCG's build: since you're really good on mechanics and build, I was wondering how you would tweak the empathy domain? I agree that FCG is meeting the needs of the party, but ideally, what changes would you make? I was personally thinking that the Changebringer now being a more official thing for FCG would be a good opportunity, even thematic, to spruce things up a bit.

Thanks! I do agree that the next level up would be a good opportunity to handwave a rework (similar to how Beau's subclass adjustments were made by having Dairon train her more).

So the issue I specifically have is that the way transfer suffering works, you halve the damage, but the damage must still be done to someone, otherwise you take it. This means that as a primary healing class, you're stuck either making an attack as your action (and I believe spell attacks don't count although Matt recently ruled spiritual weapon does so idk) instead of healing, or you are taking tons of damage by using this feature, while, again, being the primary healer. You're also effectively penalized for missing, which sucks.

I think there are ways to work with it as is, but it requires a truly exceptionally grasp of mechanics and it's still flawed - for example, always having aura of vitality up would do a lot of work, but that's a concentration spell that you could lose with a heavy hit.

Anyway I think the easiest way to fix it would be to require those HP either be dealt as damage to the enemy, taken as damage to the cleric, or redistributed as healing (using a healing spell). That way, you're rewarded for deciding to heal instead of deal damage - in fact, healing is a guaranteed damage reduction whereas if you miss on an attack you might take full damage. However, since this does fully just negate damage I'd limit the ability then to PB times per long rest to prevent it from becoming overpowered. Alternately I'd turn the suffering into something else - maybe the next attack the cleric makes is at disadvantage and they can't use the ability again until they've made that attack or until the next combat, whichever comes first, which also means that pivoting entirely to healing would be a valid strategy. Basically, my point is that a cleric should not take a subclass-inflicted penalty, ever, for deciding to heal an ally or themself over making an attack, but I agree this should come with some kind of drawback or condition.

okay. okayyy. i just finished the ep so i haven't had a lot of time to think about it yet but. initial reaction is that i'm feeling a little hm. bad! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

obviously i haven't been on tungle so idk if a lot of other ppl feel this way or if i'm in the minority but. a lot of the latter parts felt bad. like in my soul, i mean. i was simply not having as good of a time as i wanted to be having.

cue complaining! apologies in advance:

it was like. liliana being obstinate, even with appreciably high rolls from imogen. ludinus giving this stupid-ass speech that went on for ages about how his life is sooo so so so hard. sky ship was a complete and utter bust. beau and caleb were a complete and utter bust. keyleth was obviously a complete and utter bust and then some. fcg was just stuck in a goddamn automaton for half the thing. destroying power cores maybe caused the key to malfunction, we'll find out, but they certainly didn't feel particularly influential in the final climax. nobody in the party even had an opportunity to do anything during initiative with the backpack having an AC of fucking 25 (when bh is only level 8!!!). laudna and ashton weren't even there, which obviously couldn't have been predicted or controlled, but it didn't feel good

i can appreciate and understand the idea of having it be very clear that this effort was actually futile from the beginning, because ludinus is unbelievably powerful and otohan beat their asses already and this was a plan centuries in the making and the manpower was there and the group is low-level etc etc. maybe this was always meant to happen, maybe the rest of the campaign as matt planned hinges on the majority of ludinus' plan succeeding, which is FINE. but i don't think i was alone in thinking that there was a non-negligible amount of hope going into this ep that something amazing might happen, esp with beau caleb and keyleth all explicitly involved. and it was all, very very unceremoniously, crushed piece by piece and all ludinus had to do was raise a fuckin pinky. you know what i mean? it just felt too easy for him. after watching bells hells painstakingly plan and desperately recruit help for two straight eps, i just sat here and watched ludinus shit and spit on all of that within seconds? felt bad. i think if there was more of an encounter, more of a fighting chance, then it wouldn't have made me as a viewer feel stupid for thinking something might actually fuckin work

i think it could be argued that the otohan fight in bassuras was similar in its feeling of futility, but like. it wasn't??? bc they were fighting her, they were doing damage, they were using up her spells and her legendary actions/resistances, and there was decision-making involved esp on laura's part. there was good rp and there was tension and risky choices, and the players were driving the ship. here it was like every single thing they threw at it didn't even make it in the door. the whole thing was over in one round

speaking of one round, i really actually quite unironically hated the 5 full minutes during which matt rolled 200 damage or whatever against keyleth. obviously because i love her, but also because it was the quintessential moment in the ep of making me sit here and go "what is the fucking point." one of the most powerful people on the entire planet, down before she can even think to do anything about it. and then vax shows up in this triumphant moment of divine victory just to get totally fucked. BY IMOGEN'S MOM, NO LESS. and NEITHER of them got a turn in initiative. bc ludinus is sooo smart and sooo powerful and sooo wise and sooo evil. vom

so anyway. i don't think i'm nearly as mad as this post makes me sound, but i am definitely having trouble finding parts about the latter half of this ep that i particularly enjoyed, at least in hindsight. like in the moment vax's appearance was Amazing. Legendary. but the fact that all it did was play into ludinus' hand made it feel lowkey like shit. so idk!

I actually gasped at "No, it isn't." Like, damn. Matt is not going to be dismissed this time. I wish the poor kid would defend himself the way he defends his siblings, but I guess that's not really in his personality.

This fic was really interesting to me because it seems simultaneously in and out of character for Arthur? (As in he's behaving uncharacteristically, but in such a way that it's still 100% "how the character as you have written him would act.") Matt is 100% correct - he's Arthur Kirkland, the British Empire, what the hell is he doing letting anyone lay a hand on his kids? But he's also very much still in the post-Alfred slump, so it makes some sense that he's trying to abandon Jack to the British aristocrat schools and being "okay" with him receiving the typical punishments. And... it's not wrong to try to send Jack to Eton? It's what everyone else is doing. It's wrong for Jack and within their family, but it's not like Arthur's done something that's culturally beyond the pale - he fucked up and he knows it, but it's a fuckup by ignorance/apathy, sort of? So he still deserves Matt chewing him out but it's complicated?

Idk. It's hard to explain, I'm just thinking a lot about the balance between "stiff upper lip, just like everyone else, fitting into society" vs. "my children are not just like everyone else and should receive more respect", plus the "I'm grieving and angry and lashing out" vs. "I do still care about my kids in my own way" thing. Lot of complex stuff going on with the bastard.

Anyways, absolutely loved Matt standing up for Jack and refusing to allow Arthur to control the conversation. The future murder moose is ANGRY and breaking the bursar's jaw didn't fix it. Definitely shades of Arthur in there, which Arthur clearly noticed too, and I hated that flicker of pride. Be proud of your kid for literally anything other than "he's willing to force down his fear and fight me over his siblings' wellbeing", for fuck's sake. And I wish poor Matt didn't have to explicitly spell out "if you want your kids to like you, you have to be a father" for him. I will be unpacking all of this for some time.

Seriously, every time you post something I race through the fic and then I sit and chew on the implications and dynamics for days after. You pack so much into every line, it's amazing. Thank you very much <3

With One for sorrow, Two for joy now complete, I do feel the need to address the obvious alternative ending that could have happened (and was indeed actually my original idea before I plotted things out more carefully).

Mostly because it's fun, partially because I? Think it's important to know why I chose this ending despite how bittersweet it is, and to encourage other fic authors to consider *why* they're making certain narrative choices and what they mean about their relationship to canon and their readers.

Under the cut to avoid spoilers for my fic and late/post Campaign 1:

The original plan was for Scanlan to use his Wish during the Vecna fight - not a 9th level Counterspell, circumstances would have been dire enough to require a whole Wish - which, given how his Dalen's Closet Wish goes, would have been his last. Or he would have just waited for spell slots to regen (see why below), Wish'd, and not actually fixed anything, which would have been harder to justify.

As a result:

Given the timeline, Vex was pregnant in canon come the final battle (given she's experiencing morning sickness in Search for Bob, which occurs at most two weeks later, despite only a few long rests passing between Grog pulling the card n them coming back. So likely before then).

The Raven Queen is reluctant to take another life and as such lets Vex stay until Vesper is born.

It Sucks. Shitty good handful of months before Vesper is born, Vex poofs into feathers, and Percy raises their baby as a single dad with VM's help. (Vesper being a magpie-looking aasimar is extra bittersweet, because the dark hair makes her look even more like Vex.)

Given Vex isn’t nearly as accepting of this fate as Vax is, it’s likely that Scanlan, Vax and Percy especially devote the next few decades for trying to figure out a way to fix this. Percy especially would be at high risk of Briarwoods behavior if not for Vesper.

Speaking of. Vesper probably would have had a near-death experience or two where she got to see her mom, even if she has no attachment to a woman she can’t remember.

My original planned epilogue was Percy dying and confiding to the Champion that he knows she no longer has her name, but her titles are forever hers so Whitestone will always bare her name. There will never be another Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone or Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt (though titles fulfilling similar roles are made, those are devoted to her).

Vex likely would have visited Laudna while she was dead and helped fuck up Delilah with the Hells, because she's Death's Champion and knows she's why Laudna died in the first place :c

And, of course, a more recent development/change would have been making Percy or Vesper the bait so Ludinus could still get his Vorb.

So. Why didn't I do that?

A) It’s just. Ludicrously angsty. Sure Vax gets a sunshine ending, raising the aasimars n living with his loves, but... idk if he or Percy could truly find happiness again without Vex, while Vex and Keyleth can find joys in the world again due to their dispositions.

A.1) This is a fic centered around Vex, Perc'ahlia and the relationship between the twins. Knocking two of those out in one go is far more likely to leave a bad taste in readers' mouths than just one. I love a good tragedy, but there's a point where it crosses over into just being pointlessly mean to readers and myself without any catharsis.

B) The Raven Queen making judgements on death and destiny for a pregnancy that's at best a month, month and a half along is stupid. It's incredibly stupid and denies Vex any agency in favor of a clump of cells. I'm a biologist, I know if I read a fic where that happened it'd lose my shit. We have enough sexist, 'oh what of the baaaaby' media, I have no desire to contribute to it.

C) Speaking of agency! From the word go I incorporated the table dynamics/logic into this fic, so not only am I juggling in-universe implications, but the context of the game as well. Matt would not fucking do that to Laura. It's gross, especially given she is expecting a child not too long after the end of Campaign 1. Matt wouldn't do that to her character, just like Artagan strangling her would cross a line. I never want to imply Matt would do that.

C.1) Vax's arc and sacrifice is incredibly important to Liam, and he clearly tries to maintain the weight of it in the oneshots and going forward. I felt a bit like I'd robbed him of some of the catharsis Vax's RQ arc brought him, but on a meta level I have a deep respect for his devotion to tragedy and did not want to make light of it.

D) Why not just... save both twins? Well, I still felt there had to be a cost for this happy ending to matter. The imperfect ending to Campaign 1 is what gives it so much weight, the love between siblings, and I make a point in my AUs of trying to avoid them neatly being better than canon, because it feels cheap to neatly solve most of their problems. And nothing quite compares to losing your twin, your other half. I wanted everything to matter, I wanted the joy to mean something, and it’s so much more precious if it's at a cost. If someone else had gone in his place (say things messed up n took Scanlan instead), it'd still feel cheap compared to the agony of canon. It had to be one of the twins... and this destiny suited Vax best. I also made a point of involving faith and nodding to Vax having Some odd connection to the Raven Queen, so it felt like good payoff.

Do I think there are versions of this story where Vex remains Champion into death, or a perfect happy ending happen? Sure! But they’re not ones I wanted to write, or that supported the tale I wanted to tell.

The point of this, I think, is that there's always another story you could create, another path to take. And as authors, fic writers, creators, it’s in our best interest to examine what our choices at these forks mean - what they symbolize, what they say about the world and the characters - and what we want them to mean to us and our readers.

(I also seriously cannot recommend finding people to talk to about your fic if you're conflicted - @essayofthoughts, @katia-dreamer, @rightpastnowhere and @burr-ell were instrumental in helping me untangle where I wanted to go with this and why and what pros/cons there were to each!)

Like, do I ship Daemyra or however the fuck u spell the names on these show - yes. BUT that being said, I recognize that it’s mainly hot because of the taboo nature and the attractiveness of a powerhouse united Targaryen front. Not because Daemon has been, in any way, appealing for this ship?

I agree with the people saying he was far too apathetic/unfazed by everything. Maybe it’s the direction; maybe it’s the writing; maybe it’s the acting; maybe it’s intentional. It’s one thing for him to have “grown” in ten years, but he’s like, basically checked out and going with the motions lmao. Rhaenyra is out here carrying this ship on her back and Matt Smith just happens to have chemistry with all of them.

Forget about the whole grooming and him just generally being a horrible kinda dude lol. It’s more frustrating that it’s unclear what his motivations are. In the beginning, it was getting to the Iron Throne, with a hint of allegiance to his family which helped tame his ambitious side. Now I’m like?? Are you jusr along for the ride? Happy to be Rhae’s henchmen because he’s just passè about murder and other principles? Idk it’s a bit confusing to me. If he sincerely cared about her after this time lag, I feel like they should have displayed a little more *emotion* and engagement from him, not just leaning against walls and eyeing everything that’s happening and nodding along to her grand plans. He barely gives a f about his own kids lol. I’m not loving this muted silhouette of a character. I hope it’s just him observing the new environment before he gets back to being himself.

I need something less passive from Daemon to convince me he’s not just looking to screw her over. He did abandon her on like, 2-3 separate occasions.

Ngl i was like super disinterested in HOTD I just like passively inhaled it through you and was like "congrats or sorry it happened", mostly because I just never cared about GoT and also because I am by large not a big fan of TV shows, but yesterday at a party my roommate suddenly went "Oh shit I forgot I haven't seen the 7/8th (idk which one it was) episode yet!" and just put if on and ngl I was invested as fuck. Like sure I had by large no idea who the fuck has what kind of beef with whom, and who all these fucks are, but ngl I am invested either way.

But tbh I find it funny as shit that from the GIFs I've seen it looks like they didn't even attempt to age Matt Smith but aged literally all the other characters. Looks very funny when he and the guy who's extremely dying and who's his brother are on screen together. Like they look like they're at least 40 years apart. Also hilarious how they couldn't be bothered to make Rhaenyra's (? Is that how you spell it?) sons look even remotely like they could be legitimate sons. Like. There are white people in the world who you could mistake for mixed. These boys tho? Lol.

In the defence of the Strong boys (Rhaenyra kids that have dark hair) in the books it’s harder to accuse them of being bastard cause their grandmother Rhaenys has dark hair too so they can say they got either the Baratheon looks from her or even the Arryn looks from their mother side. In the show they had no chance even tho Nyra could definitely claim that they have the Arryn look but she was avoiding everything in the 10 years she was without Daemon 🥴

okayyyy time to talk about legends of tomorrow 5.14 “the one where we’re trapped on tv.” SO much to say about this one i dont think i will be able to say it all in one post but i can give the overview at least. i loved this one so much, might be my new favorite episode even. truly outstanding piece of television i think. 

first off i love that mona is our viewpoint character, and then later gary as well. although both are legends theyre much more on the periphery and theyre also both fans of the legends. so it makes sense for them to be our entry into this world as well as the audience members in-universe. i also think mona as a character fits really well as a kind of everyman. i think her story in season 4 was stronger when she was that everyman kind of looking in to the wacky world of the legends, instead of when she became the werewolf creature. gary is far less of an everyman but then i guess that’s why he’s the fringe weirdo in this episode. there’s something so sinister about how mona’s life sucks so much - her job is dull and actively makes life worse for others, she’s socially isolated, her food is yucky - and her one joy seems to be watching tv, but even the tv she watches is laden with propaganda meant to keep her compliant in her oppression. i think that does a great job of highlighting why tv has such a powerful effect on people, even “lowbrow” tv that isn’t very intellectual and that people just watch as a way of relaxing. harmful messaging hurts more when it comes from something that’s supposed to be comforting. 

i’ve seen some episodes of friends so i was delighted to see the “ultimate buds” set that was so much like friends. i found it really interesting how the dialogue style and even the rhythm changed so much in this segment to reflect the kind of friends comedy style. the show did a great job of imitating that style. i don’t know the friends characters that well but my guess was that zari was monica and behrad was ross and nate was joey? i thought it worked pretty well with their characters. LOVED seeing the return of zari 1 even though it’s probably temporary. she was kissing nate a little too much for my taste but her reaction to meeting behrad made up for it. it’s so neat how tala ashe plays zari 1 and zari 2 so differently. one other thing i liked was the “but on the other hand...why not?” joke that ran through this episode. it’s a good way of moving the plot along and seems to reference how characters in sitcoms (and i guess tv in general) don’t always behave the most realistically but act in heightened ways for the sake of comedy and to make the show worth watching. but i also feel like it’s indicative of legends of tomorrow’s modus operandi which is to lean into the ridiculous as hard as possible because why not? 

i dont know much about downton abbey, i never watched it, so i think i got less out of that section of the show than the others. still you know the period piece aspect was lots of fun and it was wild hearing matt ryan do like an english accent. or whatever accent it is idk but like different from his usual one you know. kind of fun to have all these nonwhite characters in this genre that is usually focused on rich white people. behrad x astra is not a ship i have any interest in but that’s fine. constantine being a magic user but hiding his magic abilities and seeing them as something to be ashamed of is interesting, feels like a homophobia metaphor perhaps. when he did the spell with the jack of wands tarot card i was like wait a sec theres no jacks in tarot! but i looked up the page of wands & knight of wands and they both seem somewhat legends of tomorrow esque so thats something....i did really like astra’s plot toward the end where she wants to return to the fantasy where she has her mom but she realizes she has to move on with her life because it’s what her mother would want for her. and i like that constantine is willing to support her either way. i found it really touching, and very believable here although it may not have been so believable if it had been executed some other way. 

star trek section was soooooo good. genuinely i think all k/s shippers should watch those parts even if they dont watch legends of tomorrow bc oh my goodness!!!! ive said before that sara & ava are very kirk & spock, both individually and as a duo. sara has that kind of rogueish charm and unwavering faith in her crew that is very captain kirk. and ava sticks closely to the rules and also is a bit of an outsider due to her clone status, which is like mr spock. even sara being bi and ava being lesbian is like. yeah. and they balance each other out as leaders, as this episode shows. it’s insane and wonderful to me how this section not only references kirk and spock but also k/s as a ship that fans adored. like theres the part where sara & ava are sort of fondly bickering with each other over whether or not to blow the ship up and sara kind of leans in close to ava and it’s very very tos k/s, only with a pair of characters whom we know are actually in love with each other. and then theres another part where theyre arguing again with their faces close together and it’s really cute and gay. also thought it was funny how both the male and female crewmembers were in revealing outfits. it’s equality! caity lotz’s shatner imitation was soooo funny, like how she would emphasize random words and was just so over the top. jes macallan’s nimoy imitation was lots of fun as well. i like when they get their memories back and ava is tempted to stay in the show because it’s safer, but sara convinces her that they have to go back because being true to themselves no matter the risk is more important than living a safe life that doesn’t matter. and then they kiss!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 

“repress” song was funny as hell. interesting that everyone got memories of zari 1 back! wonder what will happen there. also interesting how zari 1 and zari 2 got split into 2 people. i feel like that won’t last but it is nice to see zari 1 back for now. i really liked how zari and the others turned directly to the screen and said not to eat mush just because everyone tells you to but to rebel against your oppression and demand better for yourselves. when mush is all youve consumed all your life you cant imagine anything outside of mush....but in truth there are so many more flavors and textures than mush, even though mush is all the powers that be want you to consume. and you need to go out there and find those other kinds of flavors and textures, and create them yourself even! i’m not actually still talking about mush here if you couldn’t tell. 

ive been kind of talking around it this whole post, and that’s because i don’t actually want to explore this idea in a tumblr post but rather something bigger, and it’s that this whole episode is about queerness in mass media, and the effect that the suppression of queerness in mass media has on its audience, and the powerful effects of representation. legends of tomorrow has always been interested in the power of fiction to influence reality, and a lot of times i find it kind of corny how they explore that idea, but here i think it really lands. as a show with a plethora of lgb(still no t) representation, and as a very self-reflexive show, i think the show is well-prepared to examine the importance of lgbtq representation and the consequences of not having that representation. i also find it sort of fascinating how the episode uses these 3 different popular tv shows from 3 different eras in tv to show how homophobia in tv has manifested differently over the years based on the times but how it is always present. and then there is also charlie’s closeting of herself along with her friends which is such a compelling direction to take the character after this season where her sisters have hunted down her and her friends because of her deviance. all in all really incredible episode and i’m intrigued to see how this season ends.

so i know the topic of “twitch chat hates keyleth” has been run into the dirt but honestly...matt and the rest of the cast didn’t necessarily make it easier for her. like matt in general was a lot less lenient back then but especially when it came to marisha, and you could tell she always found it frustrating but couldn’t really do anything, and then the cast would pile on jokes at keyleth’s expense and it’s like.......jesus it’s a wonder marisha stuck around. sometimes moments like this will happen and i’m like props to her for not leaving the table. god knows i would have. like apparently in pathfinder heat metal added damage to the weapon, but it’s different in 5e, so she cast it on vax’s daggers thinking it was the pathfinder way, and instead of matt saying “you would know that’s not how that spell works,” he just kinda...forces her to go with it? and liam being liam is like “it’s done, it’s done, i’ll play along” but you can tell it’s a genuine mix-up that really irks marisha and then the rest of the cast are like heeheehee keyleth did an oopsie! which doesn’t help at all. 

idk this ended up longer than i meant for it to be but tl;dr the way the cast treated keyleth/marisha in the early days sometimes didn’t exactly dissuade twitch chat from shitting on her endlessly

Do you think Essek will be a Wizard who can cast 8th level spells on par with those like Allura and Gilmore or that he might be able to cast 9th level ones?

I’m Not sure if that would make him “too good”. Idk I thought how interesting would it be if someone idk died and he cast wish to force a reroll of the killing blow or idk whatever else Lucien has on him.

I guess that brings up a second question, what kind of spells do you think he’ll have and what would you give him?

I definitely don’t think he’ll be able to cast 9th level spells. Essek was extremely overpowered for the Mighty Nein when they met him (he’s probably the NPC equivalent of a level 15 wizard) but part of showing party growth can be juxtaposing them to their allies and showing how the relative power levels shift as the PCs gain strength. 

This is actually what Matt did with Allura in campaign 1 - she started out as an incredibly overpowered advisor and aid, and eventually joined them in a battle when they were at roughly equivalent levels. By the end of the campaign, Vox Machina had surpassed her. NPCs being static in their power levels can make a good narrative contrast to the changes the party experiences through a campaign.

That being said, we know Essek can cast an 8th level spell, because he once used “Teleport” twice in one day, which can be done if cast at 7th and then upcast at 8th (or if the character is level 20, but there’s no way Matt would design a level 20 NPC, and Essek keeps clearly stating he’s not that much more powerful than the Mighty Nein).  

But if/when we are blessed with Essek in battle, spells I’d like to see - SO MANY DUNAMANCY SPELLS FROM THE EXPLORER’S GUIDE! There’s a great 8th level spell called “Dark Star” which is just as badass as it sounds and essentially creates a black hole on the battlefield. I want Matt to be able to finally go apeshit with all the cool metaphysical gravity spells he created. He deserves it.

In terms of running Essek as an NPC as a DM, however, I personally would mostly stack him with support and crowd control spells. This makes sense from a narrative standpoint, as Essek is explicitly not a warrior, and also from a gameplay standpoint. As I’ve stated before, when you’re running an NPC fighting alongside the party, the point is to aid them more than draw focus or outshine the PCs. You can actually watch Matt do this with characters like Kima, for instance, when she joined Vox Machina in battle - she cast a lot more aura of protection type spells for her actions than you might typically see from a PC-run paladin.

ive been thinking a lot about c2 ending since matt announced it's happening soon, and i just wanna have a place to put my thoughts. ( i might repeat things that other people have said)

this did not come out of nowhere. i actually have a feeling they decided a while ago that this would be the last arc; the way that they all said goodbye to their families even when on a time crunch, the way that veth and caduceus both said this was the end of the road for them, the way that fjorester and beauyasha both started to become officially romantic around the same time. and this isn't to say that this wasn't organic, just that realization that the end is coming probably gave the cast both the freedom and urgency to do whatever felt right to give their character a meaningful close.

i also think that this being the end feels right. even though there's still ikythong to deal with and they never met vandran, and some other loose ends still aren't tied up, it feels right that this is the end. they all feel complete, almost. all of their characters have grown so much, and have completed pretty much every big thing that's been on our minds since the beginning of the campaign. even travelercon, which was perpetually "a few months away" was seen through. if they were to go too much longer, they would still have things to do, but it would almost feel dragged out to me- like the actors were looking for any reason to keep going.

and thematically, it fits perfectly. they ended on nine eyes, on fighting a deformed version of an old friend who died for them, on a storyline that they're all connected to and one that truly feels like it started very early on in the campaign. this showdown feels fated. for some insane fucking reason, it all seems to somehow fit together perfectly- and if that isn't the story of the mighty nein, i don't know what is.

im super sad about not being able to see these characters every week. individually, they are my favorite characters ever, and their dynamics and relationships are my version of therapy. idk what im gonna do without jesters accent and her message spells and pranks and distaste for actually healing. without fjords absolute dumbass self trying so hard to put good into the world and charming everyone. without caleb doing everything he can to help his friends and his unexpected moments of silliness that knock me out. without veths absolute chaos (imo unmatched by even jester or scanlan) and her believing so much in her friends. without yashas amazing awkwardness and the driest sense of humor imaginable. without caduceus's incredible advice and comforting energy and devasting insults. without beaus endearing stubborness and her insane theories that turn out to be right and her pop pops and her stunning strikes that frustrate matt so much.

im gonna miss the brjeaus, the chaos crew, the sibling energy between nott and fjord, widowveths unbreakable bond, the caleb and beau loving bickering, beau and jester, the romantic relationships, cad and fjord, cad and yasha, every one of them. im gonna miss matt's reactions to each of them. im gonna miss essek. im gonna miss artagan. im gonna miss sprinkle, for fucks sake.

the mighty nein have been there for me through a lot. the past two years have been kinda rough for me, but they were a constant in my life. and i love vox machina to bits, but i've never connected with them the same way. and i hate change, im terrified of it.

but this seems like the right course of action. again, i dont know how to explain it, but it feels right. i can't wait to see what the cast has in store for us next. who knows what the fuck is gonna happen with campaign 3, all i know is that im pumped (once i stop crying).

It wasn’t even a decision to be made, this was the opportunity of a lifetime and you knew that the city was big enough to avoid Matthew. Except apparently it wasn't, and now you were stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of winding up in his bed. 

You were lucky enough to know one of the other girls that worked at your company, quickly falling into an easy friendship with her. It was Saturday night and you and Ella decided to go out, both looking your absolute best. You went for all black, throwing on your favorite jeans, v-neck bodysuit, and heeled booties. As soon as you walked into the bar, you were hit with the dense, warm air, your attention drawn straight to one of the tvs showing highlights of the Flames win that night. Maybe it was the way your jeans perfectly cupped your ass or the high he was still riding from scoring two goals just hours before, but Matthew headed straight towards you. 

There was no denying that the guy in front of you was hot, but something about his personality was straight up boring you. Just as you began plotting your escape, you felt a tap on your shoulder. You eagerly turned, expecting it to be Ella coming back from the bathroom, but your face dropped when you saw him. “Matthew,” you sighed, a self-satisfied smirk already on his face.

You may have hated him, but you couldn’t say he wasn’t beautiful. He towered over you, messy brown curls falling onto his forehead just above his baby blue eyes. His black t-shirt fit him perfectly, tight on his broad shoulders and around his biceps. His scent was intoxicating, daring you to move closer to his frame. And that’s when you knew you were a goner. 

He somehow charmed you into coming home with him that night, not that you were putting up much of a fight. Nearly two months later, you found yourself under his spell, spending night after night together. 

Tonight was no different. After a long east coast road trip, Matthew was begging you to come over despite the early hour of the morning. And that’s where you found yourself, pressed up against his door weakening beneath his body. His hands were heavy on your waist, moving his mouth from yours to trail hot, wet kisses down your neck.
