Okay. So in my rewrite, Janus lost their eye when they were about 19-ish. I have already said on one of my previous headcannon dumps that they lost it preventing an assassination attempt. This is still true! But here is some elaboration on it and the aftermath that occurs :3

- Yes they lost their eye protecting Zane (Yes I am aware that I base a significant amount of their character around Zane it's the ONLY CANON THING WE KNOW ABOUT THEM OKAY DON'T JUDGE ME)

- Once again, all of this (and by this I mean trauma) is for Zane because they have exactly 3 people they care about and Zane is top of that list

- Zane wasn't actually the target of the assassination attempt (it was Vylad) but they look rlly similar in my re-write so the assassins decided that it would just be easier to try and kill both of them

- These assassins were a small group of premature Shadow Knights who were working as mercenaries that may or may not have been hired by Garte

- Vylad did in fact die (v sad rip Vylad u will be missed bestie) but Zane gets to live and was mostly unharmed because, unlike Vylad's personal Guard who saw Shadow Knights and promptly bailed, Janus has no self preservation instinct and went "OK we fight until either I die or you all die"

- So Janus then proceeded to straight up beast-mode 2 premature Shadow Knights in 1V2 combat and got a poisoned arrow to the eye for their service

- The minute the adrenaline ran out they collapsed because OW

- This did actually put them in a medically induced coma for like two weeks afterwards while they got healed

- Also this did have a slightly weird shift on their biology, like sharper teeth, that definitely has nothing to do with my eventual plan to make Janus a Shadow Knight by my S3 definitely not but that's not relevant so let's just collectively ignore it like they did when they woke up

- Janus spent a good chunk of time afterwards re-learning how to fight and use their swords because their depth perception was terrible

- He also walked into several walls and almost fell down several flights of stairs a few times

- This was the incident that gave them the idea that they can't die

- Which led to reckless behavior when they could finally re-join the battlefield, but it's totally fine because for some reason they seem a lot less affected by pain than they used to be

- Sometimes they have Visions in that eye. They are convinced these are probably PTSD nightmares (they aren't)

- Their eyes also get tired really easily after all that, because ow, so they don't read very much

- Chronic pain. Like, holy shit, so much chronic pain in that eye specifically

Uhhhh, he likes his job as a mercenary, and he actually takes it pretty seriously, unlike his teammates who are ✨️silly lunatics✨️, BUT he's kinda lazy in his spare time and is a huge introvert/hermit. I imagine he spends most of his days off from the battlefield sleeping till noon and just existing (with many thoughts or none at all, with or without a cold can/bottle of cheap beer.)

He's a chill guy, a simple man.

He's a self-proclaimed "bushman", so basically he's into living in the wilderness and into survivalist stuff like Bear Grylls and Steve Irwin. Even tho he's used to living in a camper van in the middle of the Australian Outback (the Bush), once in a while he goes out into some spot of the New Mexican desert (where the TF2 stuff mainly occurs) and camps out when he's feelin homesick or just wants some peace and quiet away from his chaotic teammates.

Uhh, he doesn't really have a favorite food, I feel like he's the type of weirdo to only eat bc he HAS to, like, just to live and get it over with. He doesn't give a fuck what he puts in his body, at long as the chances of it poisoning him are less than half. (this is sooo definitely canon, I'm not even kidding, that's 100% a him thing to do)

He's used to surviving in the wild, so he tended to hunt like, whatever he felt like or came across. He didn't hunt for sport or anything, solely for food, and then used as much of the animal as he could. (Bro keeps crocodile teeth and leather, bird feathers, animal bones, etc). I imagine he made some stuff out of it, like clothes, jewelry/trinkets, maybe sold some, since he can't be hoarding it all. He probably cooked the meat in like, roasts and stews, and so I figure he has a fondness for good stew, but again, he won't typically go out of his way to make them and he's not very picky abt meals.

As you see in Book 3 he’s quite stacked when it came to contracts. Even though he might have gotten banned from taking contracts and basically running his whole shady shabang he still has his own connections we don’t know much about people in Octivinelle but he’s got to be doing something right if he’s the housewarden as a second year. Not to mention as well he’s still got a smooth rizz charisma way of talking to way. He’s powerful but in his own way.

Also since your cuddle at first he’ll be quite awkward especially because of his childhood and he isn’t used to so much affection. He’ll try his best though to make sure that you know he appreciates you even if he might not express it in cuddles and what not. He’d do anything to make you happy. Also he doesn’t mind that you switch your mood(?) towards being cuddly and such. He’s known Floyd for much longer and has much worse mood changes so he doesn’t mind that you’re off doing your own thing he does have people to scam deal with.

Pierre Bottero - Le chant du Troll (French writer) This is my favorite writer of all times, and he writes children’s books. He’s incredible, his writing is so poetic and deep and well developped, with beautiful characters and a nice storyline. This one is a graphic novel, i usually dont suggest to start with this one because the story is 1000x more emotionnal if you already know about the world and who the kid is, but my mother read it out of the blue and she cried so i’d say it still hits? 

Hergé - Tintin (Writer from Belgium) You’re probably already familiar with the Tintin series, they’re honestly good as a learning tool. I would suggest Le secret de la licorne, On a marché sur la lune, or Les 7 boules de crystal.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - Le petit prince (French writer) Pretty well known, its easy to read, cute and wholesome overall, would recommend trying it!

Pierre Bottero - La quête d’Ewilan (French writer) He got a few book series, but they all connect with each other, so this is a good place to start but you could start from somewhere else! Easy read, since it’s a children’s book.

Jocelyn Boisvert - Mort et déterré (Writer from Québec) YA book, so pretty easy to follow! Cute story of a teenager who dies, but somehow doesnt fully dies? He becomes some kind of zombie creature, and then just chill as a zombie with his bestie, trying to do things he never got to do in his life. 

Jocelyne Saucier - Il pleuvait des oiseaux (Writer from Québec) I have to say, i didnt read it, but my friend recommended it to me, and he says its a good and easy read! They also made it into a movie, if you wanna try that.

Patrick Senécal - Any book of him, really (Writer from Québec) This writer is kind of our own Stephen King (kinda more gross and less good, no offense to the dude), so if its your kind of thing you could check it out, pretty easy read!

Michel Folco - Dieu et nous seuls pouvons (French writer) Comedic story of a family of excecutioners living in the XVIIe century. There is some torture and lots of killing of course, so avoid if its not your thing, but over all pretty good book!

Jean Barbe - Comment devenir un monstre (Writer from Québec) Very good book, heavy read because its a quite serious book. Very good tho!

Domique Fortier - Du bon usage des étoiles (Writer from Québec) Historical fiction, i liked the suspense and the description of the territory, a very captivating read! 

Véronique Grenier - Hiroshimoi (Writer from Québec) Fun fact, this writer was my philosophy teacher in college! She’s a poet and a writer, so this book is kinda halfway between both? It’s a love story, or rather a break up story, but written in form of a poem. It’s kinda hard to read, because she plays a lot on sounds, creates new words by mixing two together, so hard to read, but also pretty short sentences. 

Boris Vian - L’Écume des jours (French writer) A personnal favorite of mine, its an absurd tragedy, putting it on the top of the list because of the “absurd” quality of it. A lot of things do not make sense, like rooms that change shape depending on the music playing. 

I didnt want to into too much of a big rant, so just putting those i can think of quickly, but if you want more ideas, like more easy read or more medium reads or whatever you can always hit me up! I would also suggest reading something you’re already familiar with? You might be already doing that, but if not, for me its what helped the most. I literally just took books i read in french, found them in english, and then tried reading that. I hope this helps, hit me up if you need anything else!

update on the fire emblem playthrough! i've just started part two and let me just say. absolute ROLLERCOASTER of emotions since my last ask omg. i did manage to recruit the non-eagle characters i was most interested in (marianne, ingrid and felix. also i forgot to mention in my first ask but sylvain is also there since he was. easy to get). sadly i didn't manage to get raphael who was my next pick, probably because i kept accidentally skipping time (skipped a whole month by accident, and then later skipped a day of exploration without training bc edelgard asked me to come with her. and if i'd had that one day of training i would've gotten him too!! im so salty..) </3 living a sad raphael-less life now.

currently my absolute favorite is dorothea and it's kind of killing me that i'm not gonna romance her this playthrough (because i've gotta go with edie.) next playthrough however.....

i also still really love bernie and caspar those are my besties. i never disliked hubert but he's really grown on me. OH and i didn't even MENTION petra in my first ask which should qualify as a crime. i love her so much.

as for the other eagles, i still like them! i feel like i've already listed most of the eagles hang on who's even left.... linhardt and ferdinand. yeah they're chill! not on the same level as the rest of the eagles to me, but i do still like them.

and as for the recruits from other houses, marianne is definitely up there! although i feel like you have to work a little more to get to know the characters you've recruited from other houses, and the only one i've really gotten to know is sylvain. who i do like, honestly, but he just can't compare to the majority of the eagles lmao.
