What makes a tlt au work for you? Do u have any favourites out there/that you’ve thought of?

its hard because it can go down to the writing! i have a huge bias for things that put focus on the characters acting awful and driving the story forward- if a story has a plot thats great, but its the difference between "gideon and harrow keep meeting up at parties and fall a little bit in love every time" and "gideons angry she lost her childhood to the cult so she attends a party with the tridentarii to shotgun adolescent experiences, and harrowhark, frustrated that gideon is pulling on her metaphorical leash, follows to stalk her". the former retains a 5+1 fic format and is more bite-size, while the latter puts more focus into their growth as characters. im not great at articulating what i like specifically, but ill put my favorite fics below:

what if nona was dogs tugs at my heart: its post-canon, slice-of-life, and has a unique concept (said in the title). i judged a book by its cover because i thought the premise seemed too silly at first but ive been made a fool and its pet clown. it feels so true to nona the way its about all the things nona loves and how she gets to explore the world through new eyes. i love the way it explores characters softening up and getting hurt through a third person pov

we have always lived in the apartment by @thatneoncrisis i keep saying this but for the love of GOD guys this au is so good it makes me cry and feel such a deep catharsis from it. it takes gideon and harrow and the ninth as a cult and explores their struggle to adapt to a modern society when noone ever gets a break (WOW ITS JUST LIKE IN REAL L-). quinn writes the sides of griddlehark i think go overlooked in fanfic often: their codependency, their tendency to lash out when theyre defensive, their mutual paranoia and different coping mechanisms, harrows psychosis and gideons bitterness, their relationships to each other as being the only other person who really understands what the other suffered through. god. i feel lightheaded.

you just aint receiving is one of my FAVORITE modern aus of all time (and i heavily recommend the authors other fics as well!) if you really want to see how much i love this fic the fact that my comments take up the entire phone screen probably says a lot. its hard to put it concisely: it keeps harrows air of misanthropy and cruelty but redefines it as the result of her upbringing and personal struggle to live in a university while dealing with a backpack of mental illness and frustration. it changes gideons personality as the daughter of john gaius in a way that makes sense having her grow up with johns middling parenting skills and getting everything she ever wanted (connecting it back to kirionas personality in ntn!). it brings in side characters (specially palamedes. my beautiful boy palamedes) in ways that compliment harrow and gideon but not so obviously that they only exist to be supports. they have their own lives and ideals. its a modern au that brings in the boiling politics of johns cult uprising once again in a really novel way

semi charmed kinda life by @griddlebait. jesuchristo and all his middle names this fic is GREAT for you if you want a slice of life, coming of age type modern au that explores what its like for gideon and harrow if they actually got the space to see who theyd become outside of the stifling fate tlt has for them. as far as modern aus go im usually very hesitant to read them because im afraid modernizing the characters takes features away from their core but i really love and respect the way the author treats the 69ers with care and draws distinct lines that shows me how their grow and change while keeping a line to the anchor. also they write HIDEOUS (complimentary) PINING. DISGUSTING. some of these chapters were so chock full of dyke drama that they made me nauseous and whimsical. i think once a friend said this fic felt like if gh could be reincarnated and i like that descriptor a lot

til the cows come home is another postcanon fic that made me feel sick and crybabyish about it- i would definitely recommend it if you want to explore a happier ending with griddlehark! with this and what if nona was dogs the thing i like most about them is that they mix up vulnerability with pain and fear, so it feels more lifelike that way if that makes sense. i lost my taste in fluff fics over time but when its interspersed with struggle and characters causing problems because they cant cope with themselves it feels much more earnest and raw

i think part of the reason why ppl have a kneejerk reaction to others pointing out that marcille is kinda conservative (besides the usual desire to sand down characters edges to make them Less Problematic™) is that theyre thinking "conservative=republican" rather than similar to like, that girl who will swear up and down that she is SO progressive and 100% feminist and everything but when a girl doesnt shave her legs she says "ugh but its just so UNSANITARY" but at the same time if a guy DOES shave their legs she just "thinks its weird!!!", and if you point out the contradiction there ("didnt you say it was UNSANITARY to not shave? doesnt that mean you think ALL guys should shave?") she will BSoD a little bit and uhhhh i mean uhhh its just that–

This kinda? relates to all the languages posts you've been making (was giggling and kicking my feet while reading them, and got inspired) but because I only speak English, I wanted to put a twist on it.

Creator who has audio processing issues and doesn't realise that Teyvat DOES actually speak the same language as them for a good while.

Because as a person with very good hearing, i sure don't fucking understand what people are saying most of the time, especially in big crowds. (its like listening to the sims sometimes man, i'm fighting for my life trying to understand😭)

So imagine a Creator getting dropped into Teyvat and getting found by a group of hunters or treasure horders, who instantly start panicking and talking all at once because 'omg our god is here' and all that.

And the Creator is still confused and diorientated, so all they're hearing is ✨words✨and they just assume that no one in Teyvat will understand them.

And then when they arrive in one of the nations and get to meet the vision bearers for the first time, the Creator makes a thirsty comment about one of them (probably would be Diluc in my case) and the entire crowd just goes SILENT.

So silent that the Creator can perfectlly understand what that vision bearer said in response.

And finally you are free of the general crowd, but most of the Vision bearers (Allogenes) who were ur vessels wanna stick around, so u all end up in Angel's Share somehow

It's hella packed, and it's a bar.

So yeah u still can't hear shit, and now it just sounds like one of those fantasy medieval bar audios ambience videos

Ur just kinda kicking ur feetsies on a bar stool while like,, 4 or 5 differrent special character dishes are sitting in front of you

He's actually been the best thruout all this bc he already isn't super talkative, so ur pretty sure you've only seen his mouth open a few times, but otherwise u just communicated with him via actions/expressions

Anywhizzle, down to business.

SO! One of my favorite episodes from Wander Over Yonder is titled The Black Cube, and it's about the guy literally called Cube of Darkness. He's straight up just a floating black cube that can eat souls for breakfast. Unfortunately, he lost his villain permit and led a life of a minimum wage Starbucks employee in a world far too similar to our own!

There are so many elements of this episode that strike me as realistic and intriguing all at once and so I am gonna go on and on about it all!

For starters, there's the world itself. Everything surrounding Cube is very gray and bleak, everything looking like modern life in the city of Boston. Trust me, I live very close to the city of Boston and the setting in this episode is way too familiar to me it looks exactly the same. Not only does it look depressing, it is depressing. Everyone here is fucking depressed and sad and alone. I mean, I am exaggerating a little bit, but just imagine real life and you have the character trait for everyone here.

Now, this episode is all about a day in the life of Cube. He lives here. In this bleak, depressing, grayscale world. And due to his color and his background, he fits right in! Well... Sort of. You see, Cube has no hands. And because of this, he's been relentlessly bullied and has a continuous streak of bad luck, despite his ability to LITERALLY SUCK OUT PEOPLE'S SOULS??????????????? It makes sense but at the same time it doesn't. So because of all this, Cube is seen as just your average joe, the guy who has all the bad luck in the world and can't seem to see the good in anything. I mean, fair, his landlord literally yells in his face about the rent and his boss at work doesn't treat him fairly.

I actually wanna touch on that! Nobody treats Cube very well! Nobody likes him, which is also kinda understandable since he was previously a super powerful villain, but they can all see that he's trying to become better! And yet... No change happens. Every day is the same.

Also. Mans has no hands. Kinda important things to have if you wanna live in Boston of all places.

Everything finally starts looking up for Cube only when Wander appears, and from here on out we can constantly see Cube start to embrace the more mediocre parts of himself that others despise greatly! He isn't so sad anymore, isn't as depressed as the others, but nobody really cares.

One would think Casey would be all up for Raph seeing his games, and in truth, he was! At least, the ones he played now they were together. Before? Casey was handsy, still is, but pretty much everything was down. He knew how Raph was going to be as soon as he witnessed everything,

Tape loaded up, clearly home recorded as the camera randomly zoomed in and out, slowly coming into focus. A few injuries here, a fight there. Standard Hockey game.

That was until the end. Casey's team had one and course, they were celebrating, Casey too, until a member of the opposite side skated over to Case. One would think they were about to fight, but instead, they grabbed Casey by the face, and casually kissed him, Casey not even attempting to move away or stop him - even opting to nuzzle back while caught in the moment. What does this guy kick Casey's ass or something? Nope, in fact, this boy instead went in and planted a kiss right on to Casey. Not jsjt on the cheek or anything harmless nope right on the mouth. Maybe there was a reason Rapheal had green eyes. Because the second it happened there was a very unpleasant feeling settling into his shell. And like many emotions he wore it openly, his face feel into a clear snarl. He eyes soon burning to the screen as if the turtle could somehow topple over that other boy as he watched Casey very clearly enjoy that kiss. How they nuzzled in against them and were left red in the face to mouth out the words 'holy fuck'. Yeah Raphael knew the feeling working in him right now. Jealously, and he was no stranger to feeling jealous. Just never like this till now.

Reaching out to grabb at the collar of Casey's shirt and tugging them his way now. "That a threat or that a promise?" Leaning in to lose that gap between them as he pressed his beak, I'm against Casey's mouth. Yeah, thst helped keep his jealously at bay, as he just scooted in closer, letting himself melt in against the kiss.
