I really cannot reiterate enough how jarring re-watching the x files has been in regard to just how different everyone looks as compared to the modern tv shows I'm used to- Scully has eyebags and visible freckles, sometimes her hair is a bit fizzy- Mulder has chest hair and forehead wrinkles, characters will sometimes have red marks or pimples, they actually cast women in their 40s and 50s as side characters who look their age rather than having a severe amount of work and make-up and lighting done, frequently they're still framed in a desirable way, people's hair looks so much more normal and natural, not always perfectly primped- it's so... nice. comforting.

I think its so telling that the scariest thing in Signalis (to me at least) wasn't the cosmic horror, but the fucking dread of living in an uncaring system

Meat monsters. A god that will devour all life. Entropy. A corruptive force that will devour and eat away at us physically and emotionally.

And the part that pulled me the most was knowing that Ariane and Elster got sent out on a mission they were almost certain to fail, because a dying empire demands some form of glory and subjugation.

You can kill the corrupted replikas. You can avoid them and still finish your objective. But in the end, you and one person you live are still going to die a pointless, painful death. She's going to suffer, and you're going to have to take her last breath for her, and you're going to have to die knowing that there was nothing to be done.

This whole thing was just a system demanding blood.

The horror was just there to drink it.

I think my run's bugged as Gale just hasn't asked for a single artifact at all. Which is great for me ngl, free extra gold when i need to sell stuff.

But god, the angst potential of him feeling the weave underneath his chest strain, fight and claw at him, desperate and hungry like the starved beast it is. Feeling himself on the edge of death constantly but not wanting to burden his companions with the matter. Not wanting to burden you with the matter. So he just continues on, prenteding that there isn't something eating away at him inside, that he isn't a ticking time bomb quite literally waiting to explode.

Hi! As someone who now kinda wants to check out Trigun because of the hype, do you recommend that I can start with Stampede? Or do I really need to watch the OG anime first to better understand/enjoy it? Thank you! 🙋🏻‍♀️

you can start with stampede! i'd say knowing the context of the original enhances the experience but isn't necessary to enjoy the show. I would consider stampede more viewer-friendly, especially for those of us who are used to modern storytelling conventions (the original suffers the consequences of general writing trends in anime at the time it was produced and of the fact that it was produced long before the manga was finished, so the story is somewhat disjointed and has a lot of filler which makes it REALLY hard to get into.) if you do end up liking stampede, however, I'd suggest trying out watching at least SOME of the original because it adds a lot of cool nuance and context to the story that stampede tells!
