Update post:

In Hezbollah's rocket attack on Israel's north today, one person was killed and at least 9 are injured. All are from Thailand. I got to guide groups of students from Thailand, who come to study agriculture in Israel, and as part of their degree, they also work in the fields. They were so lovely, and they absolutely don't deserve this, for having tried to better their lives and the lives of those around them. Which is making me think of this vid from Oct 7 that I just can't forget of a Thai man, who was murdered by Hamas terrorists, footage I will never forget for as long as I live. You could argue that Hezbollah's rockets didn't mean to target Thai nationals, but the terrorists on Oct 7 KNEW that they were torturing (they took their time sadistically toying around with the man in the vid) and murdering non-Israelis. They KNEW they were kidnapping non-Israelis. And they still did it. Remind me, which part of Palestine is Thailand supposedly occupying?

On Thursday, in an independent shooting terrorist attack in Eli, two Israelis were murdered. They have been identified as 16 years old Uriah Hartom, and 57 years old father of three Yitzchak Zeiger. The Palestinian terrorist was identified as a Palestinian police officer, affiliated with Fatah (the party which currently rules the Palestinian Authority), not Hamas. He had previously been imprisoned by Israel twice, for dealing in illegal arms. The owner of a hummus diner, located near the gas station where the terrorist attack took place, was by chance on a break from his reserves service in Gaza. He heard the shots, came out, fired loosely at the terrorist to attract him away from civilians, went back inside, took a better shooting position, and finished the terrorist off.

A 57 years old man from the Israeli city of Ashkelon was stabbed during an independet terrorist attack in the area of Hebron on Saturday. The terrorist has been arrested.

Globally, we continue to see a rise in antisemitic incidents, including violent ones. Over the course of the past few days alone, we got an attack in Switzerland (in Zurich, where a Jewish man was stabbed on Saturday eve. The 15 years old terrorist was arrested by Swiss police. Please remember this for the next time you see Israel being vilified for arresting teenage terrorists), an attack on a Jewish man exiting a synagogue in Paris, France on Friday eve (Israeli TV reports that the terrorist called the victim, "a dirty Jew") and a Muslim former patient who shot his Jewish dentist to death, not too far from San Diego in the US (yeah, sorry. I don't buy that the moment a supposedly disgruntled ex patient decides to kill his Jewish doctor just so happens to be a moment when anti-Jewish violence is being justified, normalized and rising everywhere. A part of how antisrmitism, homophobia, racism and other forms of generalized hatred work, is that even when grudges are personal, these forms of hate give the hater socially acceptable terms and tools to openly hurt the person they hate, more than they would have dared to if they had a grudge against someone who wasn't a member of a marginalized group. Apparenntly, I'm not the only one who thinks the antisemitic angle mustn't be left out).

Meanwhile, Israel has arrested the members of a terrorist squad in Hebron, which was inspired by ISIS. They had already managed to produce 100 explosive devices, and we can only imagine how many lives have been saved thanks to these arrests.

This is 33 years old Dennis Yakimov.

He was killed the other day during the fighting in Gaza. Every day, Israeli soldiers are dying there, and Israelis watch the news, and hear their family members mourn them, and cry over the loss. IDK if any words I write here can express the grief, so today I'm just going to share this short vid of Dennis' only daughter, Danelina, speaking at his funeral:

IDK how people can actually think that after the loss, pain and horror of Oct 7, Israelis are putting themselves through this added loss, pain and horror just to see more Palestinians killed. And that's what they mean, every time they ask, "How many Palestinians have to die..." as if the goal was ever dead Palestinians, rather than Hamas being destroyed and Israelis knowing that Hamas could never perpetrate another massacre as it did, also aiming to deter other terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah from trying such a massacre, knowing that if they did, Israel wouldn't relent before they're destroyed, too. I think this kind of question can only be asked by people, for whom we're not really human beings, and the devastating pain that we feel over our fallen and their loved ones, who will never be the same, really doesn't register.

May Dennis' memory be a blessing.

I, a Zutara shipper, would have way more fun self inserting on Mai

So why don’t I?

A short essay on self inserting, what it means, my experience, and why it shouldn’t be a problem.

So the ‘problem’ of me self inserting recently arose again with discourse surrounding a post of mine. I’ll spare you the details, but someone, in an attempt to make me look like a bad person (I assume) said that I was a “self insert”. At first, I was confused because I don’t understand why something like that would be used as an insult. Then I remembered the horrible stigmatization that self inserting has had on the atla fandom.

So I’d like to bring light to what it truly means to self insert.

For this short essay, I’ll be using the term “self insertion” as defined by Wikipedia:

“Self-insertion is a literary device in which the author writes themselves into the story under the guise of, or from the perspective of, a fictional character. The character, overtly or otherwise, behaves like, has the personality of, and may even be described as physically resembling the author of the work.”

First, I would like to go over why I would personally prefer self inserting on Mai, since it’s technically the clickbait for this post.

I had a very large emo/goth phase a few years back. I loved wearing black, chokers, being depressed, etc. while I don’t necessarily identify with that version of myself anymore, I still hold high praise to any and all people who are emo/grunge/goth/fall under that kind of category. Now, I’m not saying that Mai is emo, she’s actually the exact opposite as she doesn’t display much of any emotion, but she is a badass female character who has space buns, a fiery personality, and really cool weapons. I actually like the idea of her a bit more than Katara, and it would certainly be easy to self insert onto her since her character was never really fleshed out.

(Look at her… she’s so cool. I can’t decide if I wanna be her or be with her…) this would probably also be a great time to say that I don’t feel here nor there about Mai in fandom spaces. There are many anti Mai people out there, but I honestly don’t care much for her at this point other than what I’ve already established.

I can relate to a good portion of her problems (being the face of her family, holding their reputation, not having many friends etc.) so self inserting on to her would honestly be no problem for me. So why don’t I do it?

Because my characterization as a shipper doesn’t revolve around myself. If it did, I’d totally okay into that sarcastic brooding gf because I think it’s kinda badass.

I ship Zutara not because I personally wanna be with Zuko, but because I want Katara to be with Zuko. Does that mean that I don’t self insert onto Katara? Hell to the no.

Self inserting helps me understand a character to the best of my ability. In order to figure out how a character might act, react, or approach a situation, I have to put myself into their shoes, that’s just how I work. I don’t think this is a mindset that is personal to just me either, there are plenty of other people who self insert onto Katara and Zuko in order to best convey the realism of their stories.

Now, I’ve self inserted onto BOTH Katara and Zuko, (which probably won’t stop the haters any more than before since I am attracted to both men and women) and in each of those times, I am sure to always stay true to the original characters. I am always considering how the characters were brought up, what they have experienced that has shaped their personality and how they have behaved before.

But I can’t just rely on that to help me tell a story. I have to feel the characters. I have to know what they’re feeling and how it affects them.

This may seem weird, but when writing, I’ll often close my eyes and imagine myself in a scenario much like what the people I’m writing about are experiencing.

This is how I became well known for some of my writing.

I’ve written monologues for characters to say that reflect my own experiences to help give myself and others peace of mind.

I’ve written relationships based on flaws I’ve had with people in my life.

And I’ve written hate. Because I feel hate, and I know that Katara and Zuko do too.

Self inserting shouldn’t be viewed as something that’s horrible for authors to do, it should be embraced. There shouldn’t be a world where people can’t share their experiences through people they relate to.

If you can’t see yourself agreeing with me, I’m sorry, but I don’t think we’ll ever see eye to eye. This is something that I am passionate about, and I will not be thrown off my stance because of a small insult.

In conclusion, I could very easily self insert onto Mai, you could even say it would be lemon squeezy, but self insertion isn’t the only thing that drives me to ship characters, and it never will be. I am a complex person with complex emotions that have led me to look at Katara and Zuko and envy their relationship. Yeah, I want it, and there shouldn’t be anything wrong with that.

Asking cuz this is how I am, who is the most attracted to various people (regardless of gender) and who has the most gender envy?

(pffffffff I'm assuming this is about RVB characters. I know I'm often posting about them, but technically, I'm not a specific "RVB blog", this could be about like... Batman villains, or Sailor moon, or whatever. No worries, I'm not mad, this is just kinda funny haha)

I mean, Kai probably takes first place above EVERYBODY else~

Tucker is easily a close second (depending whether or not he's had his bi-awakening), but sometimes the flirtation/attraction is a little bit performative (he's a lover-boy for sure, but sometimes he kinda forgets to "put on a show", so it isn't that he's NOT attracted to a lot of people, it just doesn't always register when he's isn't TRYING)

Donut gets a LOT of crushes on a lot of people, mostly with no intent to act on them, and sometimes just appreciating little things about who they are (attracted to personality as much as looks), but he's also a little hater sometimes

Sheila actually finds many people, both organic and robot, attractive! Usually, it is sort of in a relaxed way, no pressure for anything to actually happen (but also a romantic deep down)

Sarge has a boner for murder, if somebody fits that description, he's into it

Church actually finds many people attractive, for many reasons, but he's a stubborn jerk (who may or may not resent some of these feelings), so trying to get him to admit that is like pulling teeth

Grif is kinda right there with Church, but less being stubborn, more being insecure (bad experiences with dating made him hesitant, and feeling embarrassed about liking guys when he was young was sort of difficult to get through)

Caboose will love who somebody is first, and is the one person who can make friends-with-benefits actually work, so he potentially can find everybody attractive... but emotional connection usually needs to happen first

Tex is kind of similar to both Caboose and Donut... she may find many people attractive in theory, but doesn't often care to do anything about it, unless she clicks with somebody

Wash is also about the same... but when attraction does happen, he's so bad at pretending it isn't a thing (he's not exactly giggling over having a crush, but he'll get flustered easily)

Lopez is particular in some regards, but it is really more of a rarity for him to even acknowledge somebody is attractive (but if he really feels it, he will be VERY passionate)

Carolina is a little dismissive of her own attraction (not in denial, it just isn't a priority most of the time... she either has to really get to know somebody before she realizes- "OH. I'm attracted to them?", or it suddenly hits her like a truck)

Locus like... forgets what to do when he finds somebody attractive, or what it even feels like when it happens (he's got himself so zeroed-in on paying attention to people in terms of danger assessment, but as he learns to relax, he can learn to recognize being attracted to people is a thing that happens)

Simmons had this set of "rules" for who he was allowed to be attracted to in his head for a LONG time (basically, a vague idea of girls, but like- not even a specific girl, because guess WHAT), and when real attraction finally happened, it was very much focused on one SPECIFIC person

I personally imagine Doc as aro/ace, but he still enjoys company and certain types of affection (and he's "attracted" to people he finds interesting or pleasant, in the sense of liking companionship/conversation)

(in terms of gender envy... I feel like it's more or less personal anxieties some of them have, not always defined as "envy")

The bemoaning of s@nsan's loss of popularity by shippers fascinates me because iv'e seen a lot of ancient fans stance on it was that sansa's flaw is liking pretty things/people so her lesson should be to marry the hound for humility yet not ONE of them look inside the text that all the men that attack/abuse/molest sansa all find her pretty or are infatuated with pretty women worst abuse them, the double standard of fans against sansa fascinates me as they ignore one of sansa's character traits is to treat people with courtesy,they also ignore every character has been attracted to pretty people even j0n yet not one person says that hes vain for liking val based on her attractiveness, the only person iv'e seen thats been as criticized is d@ny simply for her infatuation in daario and dismissal of quentyn and while we as readers didnt like that she did that she's also a teenager(and doesnt know quentyn) again there's huge double standard for girls and boys in this fandom yet no one saw it

im getting off track but basically s@nsan's loss of popularity shouldn't be such a surprise when there's a whole new generation of readers that might not have the same readings or bias from previous years especially when a lot of it was just misogynistic undertones

Has san/san lost popularity? It’s still heralded as one of the most iconic ships to come out of the game of thrones and late 2000s/ early 2010s in general, isn’t it? And the san/san posts I see have a good number of notes, always around and upwards of 400, which is a hefty number to me. But yes, it has definitely left major pop-culture discourse centres.

I have heard a lot about this “flaw” you are talking about and I consider myself extremely lucky that i didn’t join the fandom earlier. I absolutely cannot imagine being in the fandom from the 90s to 2018 as a Sansa stan, when hating her was the norm. I was just about to bring up this point you mentioned, that all men, who are full grown adults btw, lust after Sansa based on her looks. They consider her pretty and want them all for herself, and all the while she’s a 12 year old.

And these are just two people, with one out of many such instances each, among a hoard of men who think of her like that. A very simple answer to all of this is misogyny, in and out of the universe. Of course the entire san/san fandom has no hive mind, they were apparently the first ones to come up with the qitn Sansa theory while also coming up with the cottage theory, but shipping a 12 year old with a grown man who almost raped her at knifepoint is an open letter invitation for haters to find a settling point for making sansa suffer without actually getting called out for it. It becomes such a perfect cover for actively hating a 12 year old because even the haters realise how insane that actually is.

I think the “flaw rectification” argument was birthed to fuse the thought that yes, sansa did bad things, here’s how we can still enjoy her character while the undercurrent of unfounded hatred runs through the ship while we conveniently never acknowledge it. Obviously new readers came along who had never interacted with the fandom and realised “hey, what the fuck?” and had a different opinion of “that’s a defenceless 12 year old girl who actually did nothing wrong”. I’m sure there were voices who expressed such opinions before but were silenced. Internet is such a friendly place after all.

The “courtesy” thing is so true. She literally has no option but to respond the way she does. One wrong word and she might get beaten or killed. That girl is terrified and only trying to survive. Considering Sansa’s action as anything but survival mechanism is so superficial. This is so analogous to how women today are polite to men while because they’re scared that the men might hurt them/kill them. It’s the same shit, times ten, with Sansa. This also goes for when San/dor catches her during the battle of black water and demands a “song” from her (which is a thinly veiled euphemism for rape), and Sansa sings him a hymn of Mother’s mercy as a way to protect herself.

As for the Dany thing, I just want to say, what exactly is wrong about a teenage girl having a crush? Why is she termed as “lovesick” and “stupid” and “annoying” anytime she shows any interest in a guy? And it’s always the dudebros screaming this the loudest. Obviously, Daario is not a good choice and Dany herself acknowledges that.

I mean, the other shoe will definitely drop with this guy but this the first time we see Dany have a consensual relationship, which I feel is important to her arc - the relationship and the man she has the relationship with. Moreover, she has bigger fish to fry like her governance/dragons/moving towards westeros etc.

And berating her over Quentyn? Wasn’t she supposed to get married the next day to Hizdar? Didn’t she herself say that she’s not sure if Quentyn is the real deal or not? Moreover, she remembers Quaith’s prophecy about the “sun’s son” and double backs (Dany and prophecies are a whole another thing which we can talk about later) and solidifies her decision to go forward with her wedding with Hizdahr.

“Enough,” Daenerys said. “Prince Quentyn has crossed half the world to offer me his gift, I will not have him treated with discourtesy.” She turned to the Dornishmen. “Would that you had come a year ago. I am pledged to wed the noble Hizdahr zo Loraq.”

“The sun’s son. A shiver went through her. “Shadows and whispers.” What else had Quaithe said? The pale mare and the sun’s son…”

Although, the Martells will not understand that Dany didn’t order Quentyn’s death and might antagonise her so that’s a chekov’s gun waiting to go off. Clearly, Quentyn was clearly the first leg of a bigger arc that we’ll likely see in TWOW (consider Quaith’s whole prophecy) and a part of a bigger theme Dany has to fulfill. Her decision to make Quentyn wait was not based on whether she found him ugly or not, it was based on being right in the middle of a political crisis with another volatile variable being added that has the potential to uproot a lot of what she has struggled to maintain (which ultimately does happen). Dany does have a knack of picking the worst option and that does not bode well for her governance/politics but that is not the point here. The point here is how dare a 16 year old doesn’t find a guy attractive and another guy too attractive (which is a part of a bigger theme btw) and sometimes, it’s a thin line between misogyny and valid criticism. Let’s stop flattening female characters into digestible one-dimensional beings, especially when it comes to teenagers. The fact that they have more than one motivation to act a certain way, makes them so much more enjoyable and interesting and honestly, human, like you and me.

Let’s also stop pigeonholing (12 year old) female characters into high-school mean girl clique leader trope who is so shallow and superficial that she needs to be assaulted by an “ugly” middle aged man to come to her senses. Also, that is called projection. The character that we are talking about isn’t like that at all. But whatever 🙄

Sorry I got carried away and got angry, things like these piss me off so bad. Never change, fandom, never change.

(4) What are your top five fics by kudos?

All but the last one are part of my all human / no powers AU series where Faith and Buffy meet post grad school, but these fics are in their "established relationship" era.

My top 5 fics by kudos:

I don't care about the presents: E-rated long multi-chapter about Christmas in Sunnydale where Buffy brings her girlfriend Faith home to meet her Mom. There's a lot of feelings and processing and also lots of E-rated fun. (A little in ch. 5 and then a ton in ch. 8 and 10)

Game of Tag: E-rated well established Fuffy, with 4 short chapters.

Cool Granite Countertop: E-rated short one-shot.

I can see you with my T-shirt on: a WIP! E-rated Fuffy on a vacation trip. This is my current posted WIP. 2 of 4 chapters are posted, but does NOT end on a cliffhanger. I do plan to finish this.

Praise Her Blindingly Scrumptious Luminescence: (the only one of the 5 not part of the AU series) Canon divergent T-rated long slow burn one-shot. Faith awakens from her coma in Season 5 and ends up helping Buffy fight Glory. Nothing bad happens to Joyce. Featuring The Mayor (who survived S3) and several Bring It On characters.

Yes I respond to comments although sometimes slower than I would like. I ADORE comments, they give me life.

(6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

The ending is hopeful but my angstiest fic (so far) is facing sorrow with Faith. Please do mind the tags. It is E-rated, but not really smut. (There's a little but it's VERY brief.) It's about Faith dealing with some of her past trauma, it means a lot to me.

(7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Almost everything else I write has a very happy ending, whether they are blissed out post bedroom fun (E rated), or smiley happy sugary good (G and T rated). There's some angst in I don't care about the presents but I consider it mild, and it has a happy ending.

(8) Do you get hate on fics?

Nope! Probably means I need to be writing less boring stuff, haha. Or just more unconventional stuff. But also fuck the haters.

(9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. I mostly write E-rated F/F smut but I've dabbled in F/F/M and F/M. (Only one fic with the dabbling is posted, but I'm working on more, including a sequel / fill-in.) Also typically what I write is older-than-canon Fuffy. (gif inspo one and inspo two) I try to write PWP but often feelings get involved. For example, if a scene includes a smutty milestone, then sometimes that MEANS something, and feelings intrude.

(10) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I rarely write crossovers. Praise Her... (from 4 above) includes several Bring It On characters, but they are in Sunnydale in the Buffyverse. (So that's not tagged a crossover.) I did write a T-rated Seinfeld crossover (My summer vacation in NYC) where pre-teen Faith visits her aunt Elaine, so it's Faith in NYC in the Seinfeld universe. (Although she only interacts with Elaine, not the other characters.)

Neither of those are especially "crazy." I have a rough idea for a weird crossover fic... imagine Bring It On but with elements of Fight Club. Which means: Cliff and Missy are actually both just Missy. Torrance imagines Cliff sometimes, because she's very deeply repressing her attraction to Missy. (Except since I prefer Fuffy over Missy x Torrance I would probably soften Buffy into Torrance, or sharpen Torrance into Buffy.) So Fuffy but no powers AU and they're in the Bring It On world and Faith is both Cliff and Missy.

(I don't think we ever see anyone but Torrance acknowledge both Cliff and Missy as 2 separate people, which is what sparked this idea. Like usually when Cliff and Missy are in the same shot they are alone with each other or talking to Torrance.)

BUT I don't have any idea when this will get written. So if any readers want to take this idea and run with it, feel free! (Maintaining the manic hyper cheerleader campy vibe of Bring It On feels like the trickiest part of this, for version in my head.)

(11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Nope but I have a blanket permission statement in my AO3 profile that includes translations.

(13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I think it could be fun.

(14) What's your all time favorite ship?

Buffy x Faith aka Fuffy.

(15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I plan to finish all my WIPs. There is only one posted WIP too, so I technically only have one to finish, that y'all know of! (*evil laugh*) I might decide to cut some short, so instead of writing a multi years long version, better to just chop it into one season. Praise Her... was originally way longer in the outline, but I'm glad I shortened it.

(16) What are your writing strengths?

Writing fics in a series out of order, which I'm treating as a strength. Working in canon dialogue but in a remixed way. (I have a no powers/no vamps AU drafted fic that works in something very close to the famous "tell me staking a vamp doesn't get you a little bit juiced" line. Cracks me up every time.)

(17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Lots of things I want to get better at! Titles for sure. Getting better at discarding ideas I am in love with. Also, I dislike having to describe what people look like. I will gladly use a famous character from another fandom (any fandom) just to avoid having to describe them. In several fics I pair up Tara with Letty Ortiz from the Fast and Furious franchise. Although I think I just call her Letty and don't describe her, so it was all in my head oops.

(18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I can probably swing it in Spanish, for short exchanges. I can definitely do it for a "Fuffy in a situation where they need to speak Spanish but it's sort of broken" scenario. (In my head - Faith speaks it OK, she's not fluent but she understands it and people can understand her. Buffy really struggles with it though.)

(19) First fandom you wrote for?

Same, Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I think I wrote maybe half a story in middle school with my friends, some mean RPF, and then I put fanfic writing in a box and forgot about it. Trying to make up for lost time now I guess.

(20) Favorite fic you've written?

It really depends on my mood. (ahem) I'm proud of my fics but don't want to get into smut talk here. For non smut I'll say a tie between Praise Her... and facing sorrow with Faith. (Again mind the tags on the latter.)

Black Women & BWWM Ships

I’m a Black woman, I sometimes like interracial ships, sometimes I don’t. But I will say that race isn’t the deciding factor in me shipping the BWWM ships that I have shipped in my life. The BWWM ships I have obsessed over are Richonne, Spock and Uhura for a minute (but I got bored with that franchise super quick), and Carmy x Sydney. There is a Black woman, Tamar, on The Chosen (the only other show I currently watch) and I want to ship her with somebody because she’s fierce and it would be interesting but nobody stands out for her yet. The only core male characters close to her are Jewish (the Apostles) so I would ship her with a white man by default but honestly it wouldn’t matter to me if it’s one of them or a fellow African who joins later. 

Anyways, I’ve also hated or been indifferent to BWWM ships. A few that come to mind are Tara and Sam from True Blood (just awkward), Olivia and pretty much anyone on Scandal (I liked that show for the high drama but after a while thought her and all the boos sucked and dropped that show), and basically any BWWM pairing that seems forced (so many shows try to throw this in to be edgy or whatever and it seems token and lame). 

My point is I’m not swayed just because a relationship is interracial. I just like what I like. A couple who has chemistry, interesting parallels, partnership, a common bond, obstacles they have to overcome (any good written romance does not come easy), an interesting world they inhabit together, and they look cute together (I can be a little superficial, why not) are going to suck me in regardless of racial dynamics. 

Why am I writing this and who cares? I remember back in my days of the Richonne fandom there being a popular sentiment coming from some haters that only “desperate Black women” shipped Richonne. That isn’t even true because they are actually quite popular with all races, people are just gonna hone in on the “desperate Black women”. I remember the canon reaction videos, it was a widely diverse audience that was like “finally”. But I guess I’m waiting for that shoe to drop with The Bear fandom. There has already been some questionable posting about the pair but nothing as outright toxic and bad faith as I saw with Richonne... yet. Like, people literally calling Michonne manly. We’ve already got the sibling lameness and the they are strictly mentor/mentee claims so I don’t think the rest is far behind. 

People swore Rick and Michonne were like siblings, they made a great team but not that kind of team, it would be weird if they kiss, a romance would be forced, Michonne is gonna get the Negan bat to the head, she was Carl’s babysitter, they are too much alike, etc. Rick was also shipped with any white woman on the show or people hoped The One would show up for him all while ignoring the obvious setup that was years in the making. Now, I’m not saying any BWWM pairing can’t have legit criticism and people legit just aren’t for it (of any race because plenty of Black people are not about the swirl)... but BWWM inspire a unique disdain historically. 

A lot of people can’t imagine romance with these characters because they are sheltered TBH. I think the confusion that exists with Richonne and Carmy x Sydney in particular is because they get a Kerry Washington type being an ingenue who attracts the white lead but someone less glam in the way most of society sees glam throws them if a white man wants them. A white woman can be less than glam and they will get it. But with a Black woman it doesn’t register or make them comfortable. It doesn’t compute. It could be conscious or unconscious. I get it, I see it, I’m not sheltered. I’ve seen couples IRL that look like Richonne and Carmy x Sydney. It exists, it’s real, and it makes great fiction. Black women will support it in a story if it makes sense. 

Now, granted I do think some fetishize interracial relationships and that has its issues but I also think Black women are going to love... Black women being loved, by anybody regardless of gender, orientation, or race. We just want romance and a compelling story. If there happens to be a Black person that could be paired with a Black woman but if it just doesn’t make sense, it just doesn’t. Or maybe it could be an ok couple but it wouldn’t be as epic as the BWWM pairing being developed. We pick up on what is being given to us. 

I think if people don’t see blatant lust or intense flirting between a pair right away they assume we are imagining things. Many don’t often see the tiny sparks and hints or room for romance to grow and develop deeply for Black women characters. We are complex, too. We sometimes have to stumble, and be awkward, and push away, and be conflicted. I think any subtlety with a budding romance gets easily lost with Black women characters. When it’s a white man opposite us it can be hard for many to see it for what it is if it doesn’t read as obvious to them. But we see what we see and it just may be a fine white man and a beautiful Black woman navigating a nuanced something, something until it becomes SOMETHING.

Absolutely! Definitely! How could I not? Lovely people have made the effort to tell me that I'm not posting into the void and I want to do the same for them. Plus, I just really like talking to commentors: they have interesting insights, or funny takes, or simply observed something that struck them and it's always fun to talk to them. Especially with the regulars who often comment; I feel like I've struck up a friendship with them.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

A microfic called The Bar. It's for The Rookie fandom and in it Tim gets increasingly drunk after his addict wife stole from his home and guilty reflects how relieved he is that he never told her his secret about being a selkie.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Like, all of them lol? I like to end my stories with people in love and a bright future ahead of them. Laughter and soft kisses are often how I fade out of a fic.

Do you get hate on fics?

No, but I think you have to be a certain size before you start attracting the haters.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, but honestly it's one of my weaknesses - it just doesn't come naturally. But in Tarnished Copper Boy it's been about trust and handing over control. In The Gift it was a reflection of pent-up, forbidden attraction.

No. But I think if I did it'd be because I'd want to borrow the other universe's magic/fantasy structure.

secretly omega Steve forced to take meds to appear as an alpha. he agrees to getting off with alpha Eddie but frequently makes sure that the lights are off and that touching only happens in certain ways that he controls. Eddie at first thinks its a reflection on him but increasingly suspects something is up until finally unravelling the mystery. there's definitely some Steve Harrington Has Bad Parents in there, but also some nuance about them genuinely wanting what's best for him.

What are your writing strengths?

I'm told dialogue and characterisation. and, honestly, that's where I have the most fun so it'd make sense that readers pick that up

What are your writing weaknesses?

description. I literally can't imagine anything in my head. have you seen that thing where ppl are asked to imagine an apple and there's a scale of ppl can see it in their head to not at all? I'm not at all. so I do a lot of online imagery research to help flesh my writing out.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I generally avoid it because because I want it to sound natural and I don't think I'll hit the mark.

X-files. During reading time in primary school I'd ask the teacher if I could write instead, and tried shipping them before I even knew the word.

A Tarnished Copper Boy. It probably has the least love compared to my other fics, but that could be because it's a very large fic and chapters reflect that too, so it may be hard to invest in weekly (or, at least, that's what I tell myself haha). But I truly put my heart and soul into it, and I simply love it.

i have before! nothing crazy tho bc it was just kpop rpf and it would be like, two idols from the same company that have interacted multiple times! lmao. sometimes i think abt crossovers for cdramas that are relatively tame such as: two actors that have been in the same drama multiple times are reincaranted and those 2+ dramas are their different lives... but it's so niche in eng speaking fandom and i haven't fully written one out yet. also does it count as a crossover if u put characters from story A into the setting/setup for story B bc i do that a lot but i think that is fairly common at least for ppl to imagine

i feel like i'm cursing myself by typing this out but perhaps the bingqiu i posted one chapter of..... even if i could write all the p With p parts that i wanted to include, i was also a little stuck on the ending and idk if i would be able to write it in a way that doesn't feel like a cop out or just weak in general 😢 but i do like that au and i think my writing for it so far was p decent... so who knows...!

i think i am pretty good at dialogue that sounds 1. natural and 2. true to the characters! i try really hard to make imagery sound original(ish) and evocative, and to make a character's Yearning palpable

i love it! i did it a little in my yunfei fic and instead of directly translating the line of chinese right there i just included the meaning in the next line of dialogue, like "what do you mean [thing they just said]" + i did it like that bc the tone of it just felt so much more natural to me in mandarin for that specific convo. not that it was something untranslatable (it wasn't) but it just felt comfier to me. i also like the thing ppl do where you can hover over the text and it will show the translation but idk how that html works HAHA someday i would like to give it a go

overall i think it would be typhoon season (my incomplete but not abandoned cisswap girls ximang in hk) ! i had it fermenting in my brain for like 8 months before i wrote it, which meant i had figured a lot of the stuff for the beginning out and it was much easier to write than normal since i was not deliberating so much in the moment. i think the pacing for it was good and the reveals of backstory were placed well, and i think i adapted the characters well too even if it's only a first chapter and they haven't done a lot yet. i wanna write them again but it's been rly hard for me to think abt that specific au for many months lol. i also think my recent yzy gegedidi fic had a lot of yummy scenes even if i see some flaws in some parts of the fic's progression... but i spent enough time on it already so i will not go and fix it anymore 😌 peace

Read your post about Ginny getting the diary in her 5th year. And I just can’t stop thinking…

Warning this is going to be long (pls ignore my English errors, its not my first language, not even my second😅)

Just imagine Harry simping for her, while she is simping for him too. Her telling Tom about her feelings and that he is „the best friend of my brother and the chosen one, how many clichés do I need ??“

And Tom being the same age as her actually simping for Ginny too ( the soul) so it decides Ginny could be a perfect new „holder“ for him.

Because Diary!Tom doesn’t need to come back „from death“. If we stay with canon everything happens but year two. (Ginnys first year)

So in year four (Harrys) Voldy comes back, but Lucius (pretty dumb Lucius) gives the Diary to Draco who loses it, which is the reason why Ginny got it. (Because in Ginnys 5th year Malfoy sr is in Azkaban)

In his second and third year (Harrys) Ginny is still very umm well embarrassing, clumsy and very shy to Harry. In Year four (Harrys) she is already popular around other people, but when it comes to Harry, she can’t act normal. Until that thing with Voldy happened and Ginny started to see Harry in a complete other light.

He was always the boy who lived, someone unreachable, which made her always think less of herself (not that Harry ever made her feel like that!!). Why would the boy who lived, the prettiest boy she ever laid her eyes on, like some poor, ugly redhead like her?

That illusion disappeared very soon, when in Summer 1995 Ginny finally SAW Harry.

(Which made her fall even harder tbh)

But she started to act like a normal human being around him, started to make fun with and of him, they got closer as friends and when Sirius died, she was there for him.

Which ding ding ding

Made Harry fall in love with her (and the fact she was a great flyer and determined and competitive like him)

So its Harrys sixth year, he is pining sm on Ginny, who is dating Dean, because she needs to get over Harry. He obviously doesn’t see her as Rons Sister anymore, but as a close friend. And she can’t risk that friendship. So Dean was the best option.

The only one who really knows about her feelings is Tom.

Tom, her other best, also attractive friend. (I am actually a Tom/Ginny hater, so this is weird to write for me)

Ginny doesn’t really understand, why she can talk and see Tom, but anybody else isn’t able to do the same.

Tom tells her that she is special, not like other girls.

She doesn’t act foolish around boys, (Ginny thought about Harry and how she acted around him, but didn’t say it out loud), she didn’t mind dirt on her face (actually she did, but not during a game. It’s after every training session and every Match, she would run to the bathroom and tries everything to clean herself up and complains about it with Demelza and Katie), she didn’t have thousands and thousands of ex-boyfriends (she thought about Neville and her first kiss, Micheal and her first snog, Dean and her first sexual experience), she doesn’t wear makeup (well, duh, make up is expensive, but she wished she could) and she doesn’t care about what she is wearing (That hurt Ginny actually. She did care, but she couldn’t just tell her parents she wants new clothes , could she?)

But she still loved Tom, became even obsessed with him, which weirded her out. But she just couldn’t resist him anymore.

And Harry?

Harry was sure he couldn’t deny his feelings for Ginny anymore. So watching her silently and being happy that Ginny consider him as a close friend was enough for him. He knew he couldn’t risk their friendship and lose her, if he told her about his feelings.

Yet, watching her made Harry realize that something was wrong with her. She started to act cold distant and buried herself in her diary.

Harry and Dumbledore are still searching for Horcruxes and still trying to find them.

Harry was still obsessed about Malfoy jrs secret mission. Harry was still trying to find out why the muggleborn Hogwarts students were turned into stone and thought it has something todo with Malfoy(Yk because in year two nothing happened)

When Harry finds the Diary, he couldn’t resist but tried to read what Ginny wrote in it ( as he was always watching her, he knew immediately that it belonged to her), even though he felt shit about it.

Only to find out it was a horcrux. (And when Tom Riddle told him his name, Harry needed to act foolish and curious, so Voldemort wouldn’t think he already knew about what was going on)

Harry, not thinking about it, left the diary in his room and told Dumbles about what he found out. Both go back to Harrys Dorm only to find his things destroyed and thrown away.

The whole finding the chamber happens and Harry finally arrives there (alone). He finds Ginny in a blood circle with ancient runes and sees her acting not like herself.

And it finally hits Harry that Voldemort tries to obsesse her, like he did in Harrys 5th year. He fights against Tom Riddle who comes out of the diary , fights against the basilisk and finally, finally defeats the Horcrux (little does he know that Tom split himself again and made Ginny his new Horcrux)

And that’s when Harry snd Ginnys first kiss happens.

Its desperate and out of shock. Harry is still bleeding and poisoned by the basilisk snd fawkes didn’t heal him yet, but Harry was just so happy so relieved he didn’t care. Ginny didn’t either tbh.

Both cried telling the other that they were so afraid, asking each other if it was okay that they kissed, that they didn’t want to risk their friendship, if the other really had deeper feelings for them.

And when Ginny showers that night, she doesn’t see the scar under her left breast.

And yeah…

Well that could be a beginning of that cool AU👀

So I’m writing a post on if Taylor Swift were to replace Aerosmith on Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster at Walt Disney World. This is some of what I have:

The best part of this re-theme is that not much would actually have to change. The concept of fans walking in to Taylor Swift at the recording studio, and then being invited to her concert can stay the same. And since Taylor Swift is actively touring, they can record her inviting fans to “the Eras Tour”. This would make sense thematically as all of the songs featured in the ride will be from throughout her career, or from different eras.

The iconic line “better make it a super-stretch” can remain, of course.

And of course, there would probably be jokes about arriving “swiftly” in your “getaway car” so you can “meet (Taylor) at midnight”.

As far as props go, there are so many different options. Disney can use items from music videos, merchandise, or posters from previous Taylor tours. Disney and Taylor can do what they do best, and place many easter eggs throughout the ride. Perhaps a red scarf can be found on top of a pile of vinyl records, next to a popsicle stick castle. Maybe a paper airplane necklace can be draped across a Polaroid camera. A Scrabble board can be used to spell out lyrics. A clock with hands pointing to 2 a.m., a mirrorball hanging from the ceiling, a big “13” graffiti’d onto the wall, cat paw prints on the floor…the possibilities are endless. Taylor herself would want to be involved in the creative process of the ride, and she would come up with something amazing.

The coaster vehicles themselves could be repainted in Taylor’s signature color - Red. Or maybe a sparkly silver or gold. The license plates could spell out “SW13T” or “RPUT8N” or “TS1989” or “123 LGB” (that last one may not be Disney friendly enough).

As for the street signs featured in the ride, there can be some Taylor Swift thumbing here as well. Signs for 16th Avenue, Cornelia Street, New York, London, and Coney Island could all be displayed.

The ride dump gift shop could remain largely the same. Just replace any Aerosmith merchandise with Taylor Swift merchandise. Taylor has her own official merchandise through UMG, but she could collaborate with Disney to make Disney-exclusive merch. Can you imagine how popular Taylor Swift Minnie ears would be? They lines would be longer than the ones for popcorn buckets.

Considering how popular Taylor Swift is, I can easily see a new crowd of fans coming in to the park just to ride this attraction. This could easily draw people away from Magic Kingdom to more evenly space out the crowds amongst the four theme parks.

And if Disney decides to do merch with Taylor Swift, they could easily make bank.

I can imagine an opening day ceremony with Taylor performing some songs on stage in front of the Chinese Theater. Along with press, she could specially invite some of her fans. They would then post pictures and videos all over social media, generating even more of a buzz within the Swiftie fanbase.

Even outside of her hardcore fanbase, the general public really enjoys Swift, as evident in her numerous chart-topping singles. I myself know many “casual Swifties” who enjoy her radio hits, and would’t mind hearing a few seconds of her songs on a thrilling attraction.

Of course, there are going to be people who do not care for this ride. With as many fans as Taylor Swift has, she is bound to have haters, as well. She does receive backlash at times, but nothing so image-damaging that Disney would take an issue with. She’s definitely not as controversial as Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, or Ariana Grande. This isn’t hate towards them, but it is true that they may not fit Disney’s image as well as Taylor Swift does.

As stated before, Taylor Swift has a long music career ahead of her. This makes her an obvious choice for the attraction, as she is currently relevant and predictably will be years from now. She will not grow stagnant. Even if she were to retire tomorrow, she has 10 studio albums to pull content from, giving the soundtrack to the attraction endless possibilities.

Tenko is another one I'm quite impartial to. First of all, socks and sandals. Even from a non foot fetish perspective, who do you think you are, some dad in a midlife crisis? Also, she's enough of a man hater that she'd probably associate foot fetishism with "degenerate male behavior". Hiyoko would probably only bully you about a foot fetish, while Tenko would hold an unforgiving grudge against you. I definitely realised that the interview questions were harder when I was like 3 questions in 😂 I got half of the cards reversed, but I think I intuitively gave them meaning according to the question? And it turned out well? (Except for the star one, I'm still figuring that one out 😂)

And it's curious that you suggested doing readings where I don't care about the outcome, because that actually came up? I asked the deck "what kind of readings would you rather NOT answer?" And was baffled when I pulled the X of Cups?? like "WHY ARE YOU SUCH A HATER WHAT'S WRONG WHY DO YOU HATE HAPPINESS??" But then I remembered the last reading I got done, where the reader literally told me to not ask about my future and focus on the present 💀

And I thought "maybe this deck doesn't like focusing on the outcomes?" in the sense that, rather than asking about how things will be when all those cups are full, I'd be better off asking how to fill each one, how to get there... Which definitely matched the general vibe of the interview 🤔

When we focus on outcomes, we often become biased and it can affect the reading. It's one of the reasons why so many readers don't like to read for themselves. Their own readings become confusing because the fact that they internally want one option to be in the cards can somewhat ruin the reading. That's why I suggest to start with questions where you don't care about the outcome. You will be able to work your way up to even the most personal questions where the answer matters to you grately but it's a process. 😊
