Additionally, one of the worst ways to "fix" the Mental Health Crisis is through Institutions & Confinement.
People with mental illnesses often *require* social interaction to self regulate. Consider a person with Major Depression. They may be incapable of self motivation thanks to Anhedonia. But if they are part of a greater community, the interaction between them & their friends/neighbors becomes an *external motivation* to get up & do things.
Now take that same person & force them to live in a deeply stressful place, away from their routine & social network. All their external motivation comes from Authorities (like nurses/doctors) & they have *no personal control* over how they use whatever little motivation they may actually feel. Their whole life becomes following orders & a strict schedule that might not even match their *actual* circadian rhythm, cause guess what? Major Depression comes with Circadian Rhythm Disregulation! So, now youve got a person who's lost their "normal" & has to completely readjust to Life Without An Authority standing over them WHILE STILL DEALING with the depressive episode!
I used Major Depression as my example, but the Institutionalization of *any* Mental Illness does essentially the same thing. It removes a person from their Social Network, forces them into a routine to match a Doctor's preferred schedule, regardless of a person's individual needs, *adds* significant stress to a person who often is *literally told* "Stress can make everything worse!" Cause ya know, if your brain is already wonky, adding cortisol just makes it wonkier AND they then have to somehow explain why they were Hospitalized to everyone else in their life, which is it's own humiliation/stress/shame thing.
I was hospitalized for a Cluster Migraine (5 full days in the neuropsychology ward) & even with a medical team that truly gave a shit & my brother being there to check on me everyday, I still have nightmares & medical PTSD!
So how much worse is it for those with a Mental Illness & *no advocates*?
How much worse is the neglect & the gaslighting & the inappropriate medication?
The Mental Health System is based on little to no *applicable* research, mostly designed after Prisons & Debtors Jails, extremely underfunded and finally, actively harmful to most long term residents forced into psychiatric hospitalization. People who voluntary join the field are usually unable to last long term due to caretaker burnout or low pay. The people who make a *real career* out of Long Term Psychiatric Care? Are often there to abuse patients. Seriously. It's the exact same type of person that *wants* to work in a prison cause *most* Psychiatric Care Wards *are genuinely housing prisoners*. Either people who were forced into state custody or people who were criminalized by our fucked up judicial system.
I studied psychology. It's my undergrad degree. And I absolutely did not trust any of my peers that stated they wanted to do Hospital Psychiatric Care. they all were absolutely blind to their inability to be empathetic.
There were MANY times in those classes where'd I'd step up & explain what I thought was a Basic 101 Idea behind a Case Study, & so many of these future psychologists would react with shock. As though they had *never once* considered the perspective of the Actual Human Person, they obstiensibly wanted to care for.
Psychology & Psychiatry are systems AND research fields desperately in need of reformation. I hope that the practitioners who are serious about Patient Directed Care & Community Integration actually keep their promises. Cause the current system will only continue to abuse as it currently exists.
"But why would so many ableist people even want to work in a group home or a psych ward?" Because they want to hold power over vulnerable people. Next question.
#for lawful snail#I genuinely*hate* most Medical Doctors#because of how I've been treated#my medical team now works extremely hard to make sure I'm not re traumatized when I'm in the office#cause my heart rate will spike so bad that they generally take it at the end of my appointments now

Statements along the lines of "Gas is a human right because poor people need to fill their cars" reflect an incredibly distorted idea of what poverty even is. Like it's obviously a deeply chauvinist one, working on the assumption that auto-dependency in infrastructure and urbanism combined with underfunded or non-existent public transport is something unique to the Imperial Core/"First World" (especially the US). When in reality it's not only a globally ubiquitous pattern of planning, but one that's frequently introduced or at least reinforced by US economic influence and academic hegemony. If anything it's even worse in Imperial Periphery ("third world") countries where the majority of people could never hope to afford their own automobile and so are forced to reach employment and services by spending scarce finances on a patchwork of private transport operators (i.e. minibuses, auto rickshaws, motorcycle taxis etc.) and/or just spending hours every day walking through incredibly pedestrian-hostile conditions.
And there's also many poor people in the Imperial Core itself that can't afford personal auto transport and so face a comparable (if ultimately lesser) set of challenges; "poor people need personal access to cheap petrol" fails to even recognise the reality of poverty in US. It' still a stupid thing to say even if you are, in classic tumblr fashion, too myopic to care about the rest of the world.
Finally, there is actually a bit of truth to this sort of statement but it's buried and distorted under layers of ideological bias. This statement assumes that the individual is the most important unit of society and so the effect of petrol prices is best discussed in terms of individual consumption. But the main effect of petrol prices on society is the overall cost of logistics; modern economies rely on moving lots of things long distances and a great deal of that is powered by oil either directly (i.e. trucks, diesel trains) or indirectly (electricity generated by oil burning power plants). This leads to high petrol prices ultimately driving up the costs of all goods and services. Like many Imperial Periphery nations spent part of their limited government funds on Petrol subsidies, and moves to reduce or eliminate these subsidies (often due to pressure from Imperialist institutions like the IMF) did indeed provoke mass unrest. But this was largely due to the general effect of energy prices on cost of living, not the fuel demands of personal automobiles.
Like overall, "gas is a human right" embodies such a tumblr style of stupidity by taking a basically true observation ("subsidies on energy can help lower income people maintain better living conditions") but expressing it in the most individualist, US-centric and generally asinine way possible

Okay, so I did in fact call Paypal and Visa and use Nate Voice to make myself a nuisance. The full rundown is very long and probably not that interesting, because, like, the goal wasn't to be an ass or do a scam, the goal was just to take up space. But damn, I think I did a pretty good job of that. So I'm gonna give you the tl;dr up front and put the whole play-by-play under the cut.
tl;dr
PayPal still has no idea what's going on (or is pretending not to), whereas Visa has instituted a policy of basically hanging up on anyone who dares to mention it. The only material impact of any of this (besides wasting their time) was I managed to lodge a complaint with Visa about their policy of demanding that complaints only be made by email.
Nonetheless, this project did in fact allow me to:
have full conversations and take up space instead of trying to be as polite and efficient as possible
persist and push back and not let go of the issue when I was given the brush-off
think of (and execute!) different angles of attack when it was clear the head-on approach wasn't working
get correctly gendered by every single person I talked to??? (usually on the phone I get about 50%) I'll probably do it again sometime. Not with Visa specifically, I've about had enough of their shit. But maybe call my representatives. If this is what it takes to do all those responsible citizen things that I've been too scared to do before? Then let's go steal some self-confidence.
Since I wasn't able to do it at McRory's with a whiskey in hand, I did it outside the Evergreen Aviation Museum with an Irish cream-flavored iced latte in hand. Close enough.
I called PayPal first. I started by asking for information, but she told me this was the first she was hearing about it. So I told her about it instead. At length. While still insisting "You know, I'm hoping you can help me understand this, I don't really, ah, I don't really get it but what I'm hearing is [insert full explanation that I clearly understand better than her]." Eventually she sort of gets it and tries to tell me that it's all about how if companies want to use them they have to follow their Terms Of Service, and if they don't want to follow them they can just use a different processor. And I think this is the first place where *I* would have thrown in the towel, but Nate would push back and find a new angle. "So did the Terms of Service just change? Because these companies, yeah, they chose to use you and follow the terms of service, but they were able to sell these products previously, so did you just change up the agreement on them?" She kinda just mumbled some more about the terms of service without actually saying anything, and I decided I was about done with that and gradually circled around to ending the call.
Accomplished nothing, but 15 minutes of accomplishing nothing was an excellent low-stakes warmup to just get me talking.
My first call to Visa was when I learned that they've got a new policy in place to deal with people like me. The policy goes like this: As soon as they hear the words Steam or Valve, they read you a long script about how they understand your concerns and you have to go to the website and email them and they pinky promise they'll take you seriously. And then when you ask if you can register you concerns over the phone or speak to a manager, they tell you a manager will only tell you the same thing, and when you say "Yeah, I, I get that, but at least then I'd know that, you know somebody higher up has heard the concern, so I'd like to talk to them anyway," that's when they read the next part of the script: "This is all the information we can provide, so we will be disconnecting the call now." And then they hang up on you.
Second call went about the same, I can't remember what my plan was there but it clearly didn't work. Third call I still told them this was about Steam but I told them I wasn't looking for information, what I wanted was to talk to a manager because I had concerns about their policies of how they're treating customers who ask about it, how there's no way of knowing that a complaint by email is heard and not everybody can submit a complaint by email. And this time, this is when I learn how little they give a shit about customer service at all at this point because she starts reading the "I'm about to hang up on you script" WHILE I'm still talking and she doesn't even pause when I try to stop her and then she hangs up.
And here, again, is where *I* would have stopped. Actually, let's be completely honest here: *I* would have stopped after Call #1, if I even did it at all. But here's the point where I actually thought "Okay, I'm done now. That was the last one, there's nothing else I'm going to be able to do with this," and started walking back to the car. But Nate had other ideas. I realized there was another angle here.
Call #4: I refuse to say the word "Steam." And I'm pretty damn sure this guy figured out that's what I was talking about and really wanted to get me to say it so he could turn on the script as he kept pushing for more specifics. But it wasn't relevant and I wouldn't say it. Instead, I started by explaining that I was unhappy with how I'd been treated on previous calls, and then got around to "And they kept telling me the only way I could make a complaint was, was to make it by e-mail, but I can't do that, so what I'd like to complain about, actually, is this policy of only taking complaints by e-mail, because that's -- that's just bad accessibility policy."
And he told me,
He fucking told me,
"Well, if you'd like to make a complaint about that, you can do that by e-mail."
It took. So much more circling. So much more explaining. But I did eventually get him to open a ticket right there on the phone to register the accessibility concern. I also had to be very careful to stop him from making the complaint be about the people I had talked to on previous calls -- but I realized afterward that he probably couldn't have done that anyway, because that was the point where he asked me if I had reference numbers for those calls and I had to tell him "No, of -- of course I don't, because they hung up on me."
I couldn't get more than two or three minutes out of those first three Visa calls, but this last one was another good 15 minutes.
Takeaways:
You know, I was a little worried that if I did this on top of already having the rp blog, I wouldn't be able to turn it off. And that did sort of happen, I had some perfectly normal phone calls I had to make afterward and yeah, I could not switch out of Nate Mode and left some stupidly long voicemails, but-- because the goal of the project was to take up space but not to be an asshole -- I think it's fine actually? I honestly kind of have a problem with trying to be over-efficient when I talk and cram the most information into the smallest and fastest package and cut out anything extraneous, and it's actually really counterproductive. It's not the best way for other people to process things, and it makes me come off pretty abrupt. So honestly? If this makes me slow the fuck down and spend more time actually explaining myself and engaging with people, and feeling like I deserve to take up more time and space? Then that's??? GOOD????
Boy, Visa is fucked.
I have one regret: On the last call, in order to file my complaint I had to give them my actual name and account info. My name ends with N. And the urge to add "The N is mostly silent" was so strong and I so regret not giving into it. NEXT TIME.
Because yeah, I think there will be a next time. Like, if this is giving me the power to just pick up the phone and be a benevolent nuisance, I should be using it. Might try calling my representatives. Might try to make it a weekly thing.
Very fun additional outcome: In case anyone on the internet didn't notice by now, I'm a trans guy. I pass 100% in person, but only about 50% of the time on the phone. This time? 5 phonecalls. Not a single "ma'am."

Does Tyler Galpin try too hard?/Willowhill Foreshadowing
I've been thinking about this theory for a while, maybe for months. There was a time I kind of pushed it to the back of my mind, because surely there was no way this boy fought so hard against his monstrous Hyde drives and their urgency to follow his master's nefarious agenda, right? In the end, he admitted that he liked it.
"The sound of their screams, the panic in her eyes."
Why single out Kinbott, though? What's with the special treatment? Why does she seem more important than the others?
Oh boy. If they're really going down the path we think they are, I genuinely believe Tyler’s arc might be one of the most well-written and complex anti-hero/redeemed villain stories we’ll ever see.
Alright, I’ll cut the suspense short. At this point, we’re pretty much convinced that Willowhill is a shady place. I’m not sure whether Dr. Fairburn is one of the good ones, but I’m 95% certain that this institute is full of bad seeds.
Remember Dr. Kinbott? The overqualified psychiatrist who tries to help Wednesday and Tyler with her joyful mannerisms and unusual interest in taxidermy. I'm not blaming the woman though, we all have our peculiar interests.
What caught my attention was the foreshadowing in 1×07. I don’t think Wednesday was entirely wrong when she thought she had solved the case. She was definitely onto something; her direction and reasoning were on track. The only misplaced puzzle piece was the identity of Laurel Gates.

After Wednesday stormed out of Kinbott’s office, we learned that Tyler was in the bathroom. He probably sneaked in, or he was already there and was the "patient emergency" Kinbott mentioned. Some might argue Xavier is a more likely candidate, considering he was trying to warn her.
Meanwhile, Kinbott already had her phone in her hand when Wednesday barged in. Was she nervous because of Xavier’s “I saw you dying” warning? He probably even mentioned the how: a Hyde attack. Or was she nervous because she knew she was alone in the room with the Hyde?
Maybe I’m overanalyzing, but if you’re perfectly comfortable with how your client is behaving, a trivial bathroom break shouldn’t make you jump from your seat, clutch your phone, and make a call.
If Kinbott had ties with Willowhill, it would only be natural that once she discovered the identity of an in-demand outcast type, she’d want to expose Laurel’s unauthorized mission to her superiors. But if she already knew that Laurel was moving forward with enslaving a Hyde—hence the same kind of roses she had been handing out to her acquaintances—why would Laurel eliminate a beneficial ally?
What if Tyler snapped on Kinbott because of how she threatened Wednesday? I’m not betting on it—it feels a little too fanfiction-y. Possessive, overprotective alpha-male prototypes are outdated. Honestly, we should’ve stopped supporting Sarah J. Maas and her like-minded narratives a long time ago.
Still, I won’t fully discount that possibility, because why would Tyler have that Freudian slip about killing her? (Actually, we can build on that theory by assuming Kinbott was close to exposing Tyler’s secret in their sessions, and he eliminated the threat himself.)
Was it about the vindictive pleasure of doing it on his own terms-not because Laurel ordered it? Maybe he figured out that he could turn on his master. He could kill her. He could set himself free.
Then again, there’s a more boring possibility: once Kinbott started pressing Laurel about handing Tyler over to Willowhill, Laurel simply ordered Tyler to kill her.
But in either case, I don’t think Kinbott was innocent. If Tyler killed her on Laurel’s command, the blame isn’t on him. But if he did it for himself—to protect both Wednesday and himself from ending up in a padded room? I’d say he looked damn good doing it.
Oh, and one last thing I found kind of adorable: what are the chances that Wednesday ends up running a psychiatric facility in a week… and breaks her old flame out?

Now i'd put my money on that.

rambling here (& a little drunk) but it's so interesting coming to les mis from a preexisting maritime/age of sail interest background because like the whole historical situation (well. wrt toulon at least) it's discussing is like. it's very much a side of things you don't think about so much I guess when you're focused on life on board the ships themselves & particularly ships at sea. which -- like tbc my knowledge of this stuff is mostly to do with the royal navy during the same period, which can be very different re: how it functioned, so I don't necessarily know much about the french navy or how obvious this stuff would be if I was reading books about the french navy -- but just the whole existence of the bagne & the prisoners being the ones to help with the ships while they're in port (amongst other things) really makes one think about like idk. how casually you might get someone on the ship referring to 'putting in for repairs' or something in a way you wouldn't think twice about what that might imply. meanwhile then you read this & read the historical background & there's a whole different angle that's absolutely full of horrors. idk idk like I keep thinking about how in post captain (aubrey-maturin series, so written well after les mis & probably deliberately conscious of it while doing this) when they go into the harbor in toulon to meet with christy-palliere during the peace of amiens & there's like half a sentence mention of the convicts on the far side of the harbor unloading stuff from the ships before they go on with their lives (& this is 1802, jvj would literally be over there right then), and it's just background description. and how like every battle you read about, in fiction or non fiction, every time they talk about french ships taking damage or needing supplies etc etc it that it's often toulon (or similar) they'd be limping back to. it's just such a crazy shift in perspective & new consideration of some of the actual sources of this historical labor & how damaging it was beyond what's on the actual ships
#^ sorry for the unedited block of text. I'm just pondering.#like tbc I'm well aware of the general abuses of historical navies & also of proson systems but for some reason this specific#aspect has just never really occurred to me or so e to my consideration before reading this book#in terms of it as like a long term institutional thing#thoughts#like I'm used to thinking about abuses On the ships re: hierarchy class impressment violence etc but this is whole other aspect

this was an addition on another post but I thought it deserved its own because I keep seeing posts about marriage that would fit in on right wing conspiracy YouTube
people should be allowed to choose whether or not they want to get married. posting about how people who don't want to get married are idiots and there's no viable reason why a person might choose not to get legally married makes you sound like Jerry Falwell. marriage should be legally accessible by ALL people regardless of disability, gender or sexuality, but basic rights should ALSO be available to all and not, as this person puts it, locked behind dominant cultural institutions
#jerry falwell was like a big marriage and family conservative btw#theres a post I see going around sometimes where they basically assert that the only reason people choose not to get married#is that they think its 'too permanent' and the post is like 'as if buying a house and having kids arent permanent'#reblogging that is an autoblock for me. you have to be such a fucking ridiculous asshole to agree with that post lmfao#people have been choosing to have long term relationships that dont involve marriage for thousands of years#and they have a myraid of different reasons that dont come down to being too dumb to understand long term commitment#how far down your throat does the boot have to be for you to think the institution of marriage should be the only way to access rights#especially if youre american#its hilarious to me seeing tumblr gays coming on here making posts that sound like things southern baptists have said to me#when the missourian thinks you sound like a reactionary evangelical you know its bad

Was going to do some oni file digging but got too distracted playing the actual video game. Anyways look at her <3
#rat rambles#oni posting#her icon does not do her justice she is so fucking cute#I fucking adore her#anyways ny thoughts on the new dlc are mostly positive so far although I do have some nitpicks#now to be clear to the fellow lore enjoyers in chat this is a fairly log light dlc unfortunately#which doesnt suprise me since god knows they don't like talking abt dupes too directly in the logs and this dlc is all abt the bionic dupes#which I see as a positive thing generally but I do wish there was a smidgen bit more to justify why they can be printed now#just an extra my log at the start that says woah I found some fancy robo guys in my printing database would have been nice#but other than that I do like the continuing tensions between gravitas and the vexus institute brewing#and I also like the pronoun confirmation on jackie's probably mom I'm glad we're seeing more of her#Im also glad theyve so far had jackie say jack shit abt her probably mom and her going ons I hope it mostly stays that way#I'm open to getting some of jackies words on the family drama but I want it to be shown not told#so like idk. maybe a conversation between them or smth. and keep it vague and up to interpretation#I like my jackie characterization hard to find and unpack#as for the actual gamplay stuff Im definitely enjoying the different playstyle of the bionic dupes a lot so far#I havent gotten far enough into my test run to rly know how they feel in long term colonies but they are quite fun so far#I like how they add some pretty strong early game benefits while also adding a pretty important early research racing#I also enjoy their oxygen tanks but I have noticed that they tend to chose weird and sometimes extremely inconvenient places to refill#I don't think I rly understand their logic for chosing spots yet but I thinkkkk they might be trying to chose somewhere away from general#living areas? I could be wrong though I have seen them recharge directly by cots before but maybe its based on the pod location idk#but yeah this is me screaming at ulti to stop recharging by a tiny spec of oxygen surrounded by slimelung infested polluted oxygen#so basically sending them out to germy or unbreathable environments is theoretically safe most of the time but it's not as safe as a suit#that combined with their adverse reactions to liquid and extreme temperatures does still leave need for athmosuits#which is a good thing to be clear#in theory this also means that oxygen masks can still be of use to a bionic dupe even if it isnt necessary#especially if theyre making large transit that risks them running out of oxygen and trying to refill inside an contaminated area#but yeah if I had one complaint abt the bionic dupes it would be that I wish there were a few more#I get not wanting to bloat the dupe count but you can and will see duplicates within the early game#there isn't a lot of variety with them which makes bionic dupe heavy colonies feel less appealing to me

"A cure for HIV could be a step closer after researchers found a new way to force the virus out of hiding inside human cells.
The virus’s ability to conceal itself inside certain white blood cells has been one of the main challenges for scientists looking for a cure. It means there is a reservoir of the HIV in the body, capable of reactivation, that neither the immune system nor drugs can tackle.
Now researchers from the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne, have demonstrated a way to make the virus visible, paving the way to fully clear it from the body.
It is based on mRNA technology, which came to prominence during the Covid-19 pandemic when it was used in vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech.
In a paper published in Nature Communications, the researchers have shown for the first time that mRNA can be delivered into the cells where HIV is hiding, by encasing it in a tiny, specially formulated fat bubble. The mRNA then instructs the cells to reveal the virus.
Globally, there are almost 40 million people living with HIV, who must take medication for the rest of their lives in order to suppress the virus and ensure they do not develop symptoms or transmit it. For many it remains deadly, with UNAids figures suggesting one person died of HIV every minute in 2023.
It was “previously thought impossible” to deliver mRNA to the type of white blood cell that is home to HIV, said Dr Paula Cevaal, research fellow at the Doherty Institute and co-first author of the study, because those cells did not take up the fat bubbles, or lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), used to carry it.
The team have developed a new type of LNP that those cells will accept, known as LNP X. She said: “Our hope is that this new nanoparticle design could be a new pathway to an HIV cure.”
When a colleague first presented test results at the lab’s weekly meeting, Cevaal said, they seemed too good to be true.
“We sent her back into the lab to repeat it, and she came back the next week with results that were equally good. So we had to believe it. And of course, since then, we’ve repeated it many, many, many more times.
“We were overwhelmed by how [much of a] night and day difference it was – from not working before, and then all of a sudden it was working. And all of us were just sitting gasping like, ‘wow’.”
Further research will be needed to determine whether revealing the virus is enough to allow the body’s immune system to deal with it, or whether the technology will need to be combined with other therapies to eliminate HIV from the body.
The study is laboratory based and was carried out in cells donated by HIV patients. The path to using the technology as part of a cure for patients is long, and would require successful tests in animals followed by safety trials in humans, likely to take years, before efficacy trials could even begin.
“In the field of biomedicine, many things eventually don’t make it into the clinic – that is the unfortunate truth; I don’t want to paint a prettier picture than what is the reality,” stressed Cevaal. “But in terms of specifically the field of HIV cure, we have never seen anything close to as good as what we are seeing, in terms of how well we are able to reveal this virus.
“So from that point of view, we’re very hopeful that we are also able to see this type of response in an animal, and that we could eventually do this in humans.”
Dr Michael Roche of the University of Melbourne and co-senior author of the research, said the discovery could have broader implications beyond HIV, with the relevant white blood cells also involved in other diseases including cancers.
Dr Jonathan Stoye, a retrovirologist and emeritus scientist at the Francis Crick Institute, who was not involved in the study, said the approach taken by the Melbourne team appeared be a major advance on existing strategies to force the virus out of hiding, but further studies would be needed to determine how best to kill it after that.
He added: “Ultimately, one big unknown remains. Do you need to eliminate the entire reservoir for success or just the major part? If just 10% of the latent reservoir survives will that be sufficient to seed new infection? Only time will tell.
“However, that does not detract from the significance of the current study, which represents a major potential advance in delivery of mRNA for therapeutic purposes to blood cells.”"

Part of what Cory Booker is doing with this filibuster is reading things into the record. Sometimes when people do a filibuster, they just say shit. I think one time Ted Cruz read "Green Eggs and Ham" into the record. Another dude sang the Mets theme song or whatever the shit.
If you actually have substantial things to say, you don't have to do that. I mean, not for nothing, but what we're watching here is a man doing the job he was elected to do. Our public officials work for us, the people. It's nice to see some of them take that obligation seriously.
Booker is standing there with a binder that he's not even halfway through reading. *Over 42k people are watching it just on YouTube. I haven't watched the news yet today, but I've got the live feed of this open on my computer.
I hope he has a catheter and/or a diaper on. He said he'd continue as long as he's physically able. Probably he's been on a liquid diet for a day or so. I would plan ahead for this.
If Republicans are going to refuse to do the work, if they're going to refuse to take up serious business and would like instead to fuck shit up... Well, we've got a choice to make, don't we? I don't know what the long-term solution looks like. But we can and should talk about it. We can and should take steps to make sure the public record reflects reality to the extent possible.
Really, if we want to come back from this, we have to talk about it. And we know that the official records during this time especially will be, shall we say, less than reliable. So there is value in speaking the truth into the public record.
I'm not in love with the Democratic party as an institution. But this can also be energizing and inspiring for people. He's setting an example, and hopefully his example will shame others into growing a backbone. Hopefully.
I really don't have any hope for Schumer. But Booker, along with folks like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett, are doing what they can do, and I respect it.
This is definitely a coordinated thing, though. Finally, Dems are showing that they have some strategic ability. Booker is the main speaker, but other Dems are asking questions, while allowing him to retain the floor. In this way, it's clear that they're working together, and several people in the room have jobs to do in support of Booker's efforts. They're expanding on his points and doing a call-and-response thing, which is an effective tactic in more ways than one, and it allows him to rest his voice for a few moments at a time.
So I'm not becoming a cheerleader for anybody yet. But what he's doing is important, even if it doesn't change anything directly.
Miss me with bipartisanship talk though. I really can't see that as a viable option at this point. Unless something radical changes, I wouldn't trust that at all. So anytime somebody like Schumer talks about Republicans coming to the table, I can't be bothered to listen. They have repeatedly shown us that they have no intention of doing that and that they further do not care about right and wrong at all. Or if they do, they think their actions are right, and I'm not sure which is worse, but in both cases, I would not call them trustworthy. Their priority is being in lockstep with Trump and the prescribed agenda of the party, not the American people.
At least Booker is trying to do something. Shit.

To me there's a deeper meaning, though I don't know how to express it, on people using pathologizing language in education i.e. "cognitive atrophy" "brain damage" as an explanation for learning issues.
Which to be fair, the authors of that paper asked specifically not to be used, but the twitter thread linked on that post (which has 38k notes as of this post, jesus christ) did use, extensively. Using language such as "brain damage", "cognitive atrophy" and how could I forget, "soulless".
However, the authors of the paper also didn't have a good methodology, other people have gotten into it better than myself, but the paper does not really point to any cognitive decline, and the methodology used does not offer long-term explanations. But what I do think is that when we're talking about things such as AIs in education, or any other new technology, we should investigate them as tools used in a social context. Why do people use AI as a tool? How do educators and instutions handle this? In which way this tool worsen education or might, god forbid, enhance it? Here the focus, as so much Usamerican education research at least in my experience, is on almost purely numerical and anatomical (EEG? really?) results rather than any pedagogical studies on the tools and their users. (and those results are very poor too)
And once you go down the road of finding pathological answers to educational issues, you will start finding pathological solutions instead of social ones. Why try to confront social or familial issues, when these students obviously have something wrong with their brains? Hell, why even provide them with education, their brains can't even handle it. Eventually you might as well give up and just educate the worthy ones. If you don't believe me, see how education and mental healthcare in the US works.
For someone like me who believes that education is fundamentally a social institution and that every student comes from a social and cultural background that needs to be understood before the process of learning begins, these studies (or rather, unhinged twitter threads) that claim that a complex process like learning can be understood in pathological terms are profoundly hostile to me.

disability and chronic illness and whatnot are really complicated sometimes and can result in a lot of complicated, messy feelings, but the pervasiveness of ableism and the fact being disabled doesn't exempt you from participating in it (yes, including on a violent interpersonal and an also an institutional level, as there are disabled people that work in the very healthcare system that neglects and violates many of us! there are disabled people that work as caregivers who are capable of abusing that power!) makes it important to discern whether you need to be airing out those messy feelings in public vs. working through them on a private level, not just for your own sake
people with terminal cancer, ALS, etc. aren't somehow "luckier" than those with PASC/long covid for having research and awareness and they aren't automatically treated well or taken seriously despite what one might assume
obligate wheelchair-users aren't "lucky" for having no choice but to navigate a world that is built for ambulatory people with a mobility device that is expensive/difficult to acquire, requires routine maintenance, can wind up damaged and destroyed, etc. and bars them off from being able to participate in all the same areas of life as the able-bodied because - again - society is physically constructed with ambulatory people in mind
people with visible disabilities aren't "lucky" for being recognized as having something "wrong" with them by other people (because "visible disability" does not necessarily mean others thinking "oh that person is a real disabled," it's more complex than that)
someone having a very visible aspect of their disability like a limb difference doesn't mean their disability can be reduced to just that limb difference (e.g. there are a lot of ways someone might end up medically needing an amputation, including forms of chronic illness, like diabetes leading to nerve damage, leading to infected wounds that then can't heal properly!)
having assumptions made about your intelligence or "mental age" by strangers based off visible aspects of disability is 100% a form of ableism but there are ways of discussing and addressing this that don't contribute to ableism against people who are genuinely intellectually disabled (some of whom might have the same condition you're talking about!)
autistic people who require caregivers for survival aren't somehow privileged compared to autistic people who can live independently but get burnt out, living independently = not having to worry about getting abused or violated or neglected by people you have no choice but to depend on to feed you, bathe you, attend to medical equipment, clean your living space to prevent bugs or mold, etc.
i also highly doubt sensory disabled people are automatically taken seriously in terms of "oh they're actually disabled" either, even people with total vision or hearing loss, so excluding sensory disabled people from the label of "invisible disability" (in cases where it isn't accompanied by visible disability, like strabismus impacting vision) based on that is purely something out of ignorance
too many people in online disability spaces (physical or psychiatric) actively spit on other highly vulnerable groups of disabled people by saying/doing these things and it needs to end, especially as the overton window continues shifting to the right when it comes to ableism in the western world and elsewhere
and don't sit around waiting to be corrected and instead deliberately expose yourself to the experiences of disabled people whose lives are unlike yours and are continuously shut down in online (and offline) spaces, which is part of the reason these prejudices and misconceptions exist in the first place; if we don't have solidarity, then we have nothing

I will never understand how people come to the conclusion of "I was treated like shit as a woman, and now that I've transitioned I'm treated better, therefore trans men have male privilege." Like my dude you still live with the memory and long-term emotional and material impacts of experiencing misogyny. You were still denied resources and opportunities that, had you had access to them, you might be in a very different position in life now. You are vulnerable to violence if found out as a trans man that is different from the violence you might have been vulnerable to when moving through the world as a cis woman. Can we stop diluting male privilege as a concept to just being this superficial thing about how you're perceived? Like. Come on guys. There is an entire institutional structure of patriarchy that not even the most masculine, cis-passing trans man will ever meaningfully benefit from. Let's be so for real.

qualities of my future spouse. . . [pick-a-pile!!] - <3
pick one of these cute animal piles to get your result!!! both negative and positive qualities, not in a specific order. this was second on the poll, i think, so here it is :) i hope that all of you enjoy!! stay genuine and stay blessed.
p1.
-with you, they are very vulnerable. they may have been clowned upon in the past for being a 'wimp' (especially if they are a man) or for projecting more emotions than people like them are typically expected to.
-many are intellectuals. they feast on information - not necessarily books, but they absorb knowledge and media like it's actual food. they will loveee listening to you speak about anything and everything.
-some may have vision problems.
-many may be 'mama's' boys but not in the way you think. many may have been idolized from a young age with unrealistic expectations from their maternal side, in a toxic way.
-traveling is deeply important to them. not necessarily to places, but they prioritize physical movement. it puts their thoughts into order for them.
-some could have struggled with addictions. not necessarily to drugs, sex, the usual, but to other things too. they have a very poor attachment style that they may not be aware of.
-their memories of bad events may be glazed over with their rose-colored vision. they don't see things as painful because they have an optimistic view of the past whenever they get over a certain event.
-this'll have a nostalgic vibe for most of you. very old-school kind of love, i don't think you guys will meet thru social media, for most of you. when you first see them, you guys will be starstruck.
p2.
-ahahaha the first meeting for you guys will be something you talk about later, may be different from each of your perspectives.
-they're a very genuine person, no bullshit about them. if they mean something, they say it, and they're not negative very often, but they might be extremely blunt, not in a bad way.
-this person is very adventurous but to a risk-taking level. they don't easily follow social norms or rules, because they don't see life as something formatted by that.
-not very talkative unless provoked. they prefer being the observer and they do have a good sense of whether people are good or bad, but they also have a more cynical view of everybody.
-secretly, deep inside, they try to be optimistic about their own future. they want to believe that they can have good things, but many think they don't deserve them.
-i don't think they grew up very rich. they were rich with life, with their family, but financially speaking? nah. they appreciate hard workers and people who put effort into connections.
-they may have had a player phase some time ago because they either A). had a poor view of what women/partners were, or B). thought that being appreciated in a romantic/sexual light would fix their internal issues (it didn't - healing did).
-they feel more at peace during the night or in isolated places. they're the kinda person who would go on night drives and take great care of their car.
p3.
-either you or them will have gotten out of a long-term relationship when you first meet that wasn't a good one. whoever it was may be generally more hesitant to start to love again.
-they will be veryyy protective over you. not in the possessive way but they have a great amount of respect for you and they love you very deeply. they do not play about you.
-i think they have a great deal of faith in a religious and/or spiritual sense. they may pray daily or may have attended a religious institute (idk the word but like a church, a mosque...) at a young age.
-at first it'll not seem like you'll be with this person. they may bully you a little or simply not pay attention to you in a way that'd make you sure they like you. they don't consider themselves one of those 'easy' people.
-they are very intelligent. they know technology a decent amount and are great innovators with problems. they don't give up, but that can also give them a pushy side.
-they will wanna give you the best possible. growing up, the way they showed love was by actions, taking care of their family. they have strong cultural values.
-if they have a problem they will tell you it. they don't smother their words behind anti-confrontational rhetoric. if they're upset, they will tell you so.
-they try their best to be kind to the common folk (cashiers, waiters, etc.) but if they're stressed or impatient they can lash out because they don't think before they act. this is an easily solvable problem.

The natal 10th house and MC represent what others tend to remember you for.
Aries in the 10th house
“Known for starting or causing something, even if it’s reckless or brief”
Ex: launching ideas first, calling out things when no one else will, starts the group but doesn’t finish job
- remembered as first to do something, whether it’s warfare, entrepreneurship, or defiance; someone who begins a campaign rather than who saw it to maturity
- tends to work in fighting professions, physical risk work (like military, law enforcement, emergency response), surgery, pioneering roles in anything, competitive trades; little patience, tends to push headfirst
- seen as combative or militant, known for open confrontation, like thru legal battles, political struggles, social protest, or physical action; fame stems from overcoming enemies, personal or collective
- tends to go solo or break away from traditional systems; known for bravery, confrontation, hot temper, or being the first to act; society doesn’t forget them, even if it hates or blames them
- may be viewed as impulsive or destructive; legacy may be unstable, like celebrated in one generation and criticized in another
Tips: Start before you’re ready. The second you feel the itch, act on it. Don’t wait to be prepared or validated, your public power only activates when you initiate. People respect you more when you move first, even if you mess up.
Tropical MC Aries: Julia Roberts, John Travolta, Tony Curtis, Cameron Diaz, Jeff Goldblum, Angelina Jolie, Stephen King, Yasser Arafat, Fergie, Bill Gates
Sidereal MC Aries: Eddie Murphy, Pierce Brosnan, Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, Christopher Reeve, Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Manson, George W. Bush, Demi Lovato
Taurus in the 10th house
“Known for building something steady or lasting, even if it’s simple”
Ex: having same business for years, bringing stability to chaos, quietly saving money and owning something big
- remembered for constructing physical things, like buildings, businesses, estates, gardens, or arts of a decorative kind; their output often lasts, even if anonymous; may be associated with wealth or land
- tends to be in jobs involving stability, comfort, aesthetics, food, land, farming, wealth preservation, fashion, architecture; society sees them as a preserver of cultural, aesthetic, or economic value
- known for solidifying or managing resources; may have founded economic systems, artisan trades, or institutions; builds slowly and avoids chaos, since driven by comfort and security; society respects their consistency
- this placement gives a visible legacy of beauty, thru design, music, culinary art, or fashion; not flamboyant but timeless, harmonic, or pleasing
- not remembered for speed or innovation but for staying in power; reputation may grow stronger after death as the usefulness or value of their work increases
Tips: Show results people can touch or measure. You gain respect when others can see the product. Document your progress, stay consistent, and make something solid, not fast, but real. Long-term trust is your currency, so own the slow grind.
Tropical MC Taurus: Eddie Murphy, Pierce Brosnan, Robert Downey Jr, Johnny Depp, Christopher Reeve, Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn Manson, George W. Bush, Demi Lovato, John Wayne
Sidereal MC Taurus: Keanu Reeves, Sharon Stone, Tim Robbins, Uma Thurman, Tom Hanks, Woody Allen, James Cagney, Doris Day, Madonna, Federico Fellini
Gemini in the 10th house
“Known for talking, writing, or juggling many things, even if unfocused”
Ex: running a newsletter, podcast, and several side gigs at once; in the know and spreads news fast; person who gets picked to explain things
- society sees them as people who pass on knowledge between people or domains; remembered more for what they say rather than what they built
- tends to have had multiple jobs, hybrid roles, or a visible career shift; may have multiple public identities or inconsistent careers
- may work in writing, teaching, journalism, interpreting, social media, sales, tech support, data management, editing
- known for raising questions, disrupting assumptions, or challenging dominant narratives thru data, satire, or debating; stirring the pot without always resolving
- connects people, fields, or information; may leave behind infrastructures based on communication, like discussion groups, mailing lists, learning platforms, or publications
- could be remembered for being two-faced, manipulative, versatility, multitasking, inconsistency, scattered yet clever; tends to work thru information and movement, not physical labor
Tips: Keep moving and keep talking. Your visibility rises when you’re everywhere, saying things, asking questions, making noise. Don’t force depth, you win through volume, agility, and connection. Just keep ideas flowing.
Tropical MC Gemini: Keanu Reeves, Sharon Stone, Tim Robbins, Uma Thurman, Tom Hanks, Woody Allen, James Cagney, Doris Day, Madonna, Federico Fellini
Sidereal MC Gemini: Bruce Willis, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford, Kate Winslet, Sissy Spacek, Derek Jacobi, Bing Crosby, John Garfield, Emma Watson, Roman Polanski
Cancer in the 10th house
“Known for caring, protecting, or supporting, even if emotionally heavy.”
Ex: one who holds everyone together during family/workplace stress; teacher who acts as a parent to students; person who’s always there when someone needs emotional backup
- carries maternal or domestic symbolism, “mother of the movement”; emotional continuity; nursing, hospitality, domestic services, food-related professions, national service, caregiving; “the one who made it feel like home”
- known for defending others thru protective or reactionary gestures, not in an aggressive way; might be seen as “shielding” a group or cause from harm
- builders of physical or ideological homes for displaced people or forgotten voices
- tends to establish caretaking institutions, like schools, shelters, hospitals, orphanages, animal sanctuaries, or family services; may not necessarily always work in these, but founding or preserving them
- honored within a group rather than above it; behind the scenes work rather than anything flashy or loud

Ex: manager who everyone notices when they walk into the room; one gets picked to speak or represent the group; one who throws together events just to bring people together
- rarely remembered in the background, often seen as someone who represented a group, cause, or era; person embodies something larger than themselves, like national pride, cultural respect, moral leadership, or heroic pride; their image becomes synonymous to a period or value system
- tends to work in public roles, performing arts, royalty-adjacent professions (like executive leadership, entertainment, figurehead positions), spokespersons; often remembered for how they carry themselves, not what they did; known more for presence and status than labor
- their power lies in influence not management; remembered as charismatic, dignified, or “larger than life”; authority by precense
- remembered as the moral reference point, or if corrupted as a tyrant or self-idolizer; wants to be admired for holding their role well
- tends to be performers, artists, influencers, moral compasses, iconic, or “sources of light”; can be resented for pride or loved for confidence
Tips: Get seen doing something bold. Visibility isn’t optional for you, it’s your fuel. Put yourself where people will notice your efforts (on stage, online, in front). Hiding kills momentum. Public trust builds when you own your presence.
Tropical MC Leo: Vin Diesel, Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Dean Stockwell, Chevy Chase, River Phoenix, Robin Williams, Jennifer Aniston, Ida Lupino, Ice Cube, James France
Sidereal MC Leo: Kevin Kline, Edward Norton, Michael Douglas, Sydney Pollack, Jim Carrey, Charlie Chaplin, Bruce Lee, Shirley Temple, Björk, Janet Jackson, Chris Evans, Diana Ross, Nelson Mandela

- remembered as the craftsman, expert, the analyst, or the problem solver; could be in medicine, accounting, engineering, clinical work, or any field that requires exactness
- tends to work in technical, repair, health, medicine, administration, research, any role that requires analysis or cleaning up; known for being extremely helpful yet under-appreciated; doesn’t push for credit
- tends to be invisible yet indispensable; legacy may be institutional, methodological, or tied to procedures that outlive them
- known for reform, criticism, or refinement; may leave behind corrected systems, improved tools, or cleaned-up methods of operation
- because virgo is a servant sign, they may be remembered for usefulness, modesty, and service to a larger cause without recognition or claiming “glory”

Ex: host who makes everyone feel comfortable even if they’re stressed inside; one who mediates arguments and finds fair solutions; friend who always looks put- together and knows the social rules
- remembered as judge, negotiator, or arbiter; brought two sides together, professionally or culturally; may be known for indecision, fairness, or charm; often remembered for how they handled people than a product; finding equilibrium in extremes

- often remembered because they lead upheaval, like war, scandal, or reform
- tends to work in crisis roles, intelligence, surgery, investigation, psychology, finance, any power management field

- public identity is tied to abstract ideals, like justice, equality, and progression
- may not be tied to a single identity, but a movement or institution; their ideas endure, often without being personally understood; works for long game not emotional payoff
- society views them as outsiders, reformers, or long-range thinkers; often tied to unorthodox methods; reputation is built around ideas or change not personality
- may only be fully recognized after their death or during social shifts they predicted
Tips: Play up what makes you different, but tie it to something useful. Originality alone isn’t enough. Make your odd ideas practical. You magnetize respect by solving problems with unexpected thinking, not just rebelling to rebel.
Tropical MC Aquarius: Peter Jackson, Will Smith, Jackie Chan, Kristen Stewart, Virginia Madsen, Tchéky Karyo, Halle Berry, Tim Burton, Coluche, Patrick Duffy, Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper

Pisces in the 10th house
“Known for inspiring or softening the world, even if unclear or messy”
Ex: the artist whose work hits people emotionally but they don’t know why; person who sacrifices their own time to lift others up
- known for religion, healing, martyrdom, or sacrifice
- tends to leave behind poetry, film, fantasy, or music, medias that transcend logic; their legacy is rooted in feeling not instruction
-their identity is diffused, others project meaning onto them; might be misunderstood, erased, or mythologized
- tends to be associated with asylums, spiritual service, or care for the forgotten
- their memory often grows stronger after they’re gone, or becomes legend; stories may be told about them that don’t match facts; fame is often after death
- they are remembered symbolically, as dreamers, visionaries, or selfless helpers; their life may be unclear but their image is a powerful feeler
Tips: Work through feeling, not structure, then package it for the world. You don’t operate in straight lines, and that’s fine. Let your sensitivity lead, but make your output visible: art, care work, intuition, creativity. Turn the vibe into something real people can grasp.
Tropical MC Pisces: Cate Blanchett, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Kurt Russell, Orson Welles, Cher, Mickey Rouke, Louis de Funès, Howard Hughes, Lindsay Lohan, Michael Jordan, Matthew McConaughey

autism awareness & autism acceptance not either or. not mutually exclusive. can coexist. need coexist.
“there enough awareness for autism already 🙄 we need acceptance”
ok. you aware of high support needs autism? aware what that even means? not “need reminder take meds need remind take shower” “high” support needs autism, but “need full physical help do bADLs lack danger awareness may accidentally hurt self or even kill self without support” high support needs autism? not just higher support needs people who can be independently online do advocacy, but those who need help from others even be online, or those who cannot be online at. all.?
aware of nonverbal nonspeaking people? not just nonverbal nonspeaking people who can write grammatically correct cannot tell apart base on writing. not just nonverbal nonspeaking people who can be online who can advocate online.
aware of nonverbal nonspeaking people who cannot communicate in way that easily understood, either for now, or ever? aware of nonverbal nonspeaking people without functional communication, aware of how without functional communication, how that drastically limit communication, even though behaviors are valid communication? aware of nonverbal nonspeaking people who may never use AAC fluently even with best support?
aware of technically verbal but very limited verbal autistics who may only able say wants & needs but not other things and certainly not online advocacy, “despite being verbal”?
aware of just how much our life depends on caregiver/carer/PCA/etc? aware how vulnerable that make us? aware of abuse from caregivers? aware of caregiver burnout from lack of support for caregivers, & how that impact our care we receive? have you even heard of term respite care? aware of those of us who cannot separate ourselves from caregiver? aware of those of us who cannot participate in autism community without caregiver?
aware of visibly autistic people? aware how we not automatically believed? aware how we often bear blunt of violence because we most easily identified target because we visible? aware visible =/= get support, aware that many those diagnosed severe who now adult so no longer qualify for services under 21 year old, languish in hospitals because nowhere to go? aware how long life saving necessary waitlists are? aware that even to this day parents have to fight school fight day service fight government fight insurance for them give their nonverbal nonspeaking child AAC & be properly taught how use it? actually, are you aware of how properly teach AAC to nonverbal nonspeaking, developmentally delayed child who may or may not have intellectual disability?
actually, aware of autistics with (correctly diagnosed) intellectual disability & how they make up big amount of autistic? aware of institutional systemic & legal impact of mental [r word] right & the human rights abuse justified using r word right? wait, you aware that r word come from old term for intellectual disability, that, actually, still in many laws because no one bothered updating, right? aware of what severe profound ID look like? and aware they real and they still human deserve education deserve life deserve care, yes?
aware of early diagnosis 20 30 or even 10 years ago, not same as now, even less resources & knowledge about autism now? aware that while gender race class 1000% impacted diagnoses, a lot of early diagnosed people early diagnosed because… they die without support unlocked by diagnosis, right? but also, aware that in old times, early diagnosis often did mean doom, not because autism bad or anything, but because severe lack of support & diagnosis can literally bar you from so many things including basic education?
aware that for many people in special education, which impact specific group of autistic people, they not get degree when graduate high school, they just get certificate, which limit their educational & employment opportunities & others?
aware of life saving importance and necessity of masking for autistic of color especially Black autistic people, despite stress inducing traumatic? aware that live in broken system be victim of hate crime & police brutality just as traumatic often even more traumatic than masking? aware that many Black & other parents of color forced to teach their child masking because of this?
are you aware of most marginalized autistic people? aware of leadership of most impacted?
aware you can and need to care about autistic experiences & form of autism you not experience? aware that you can and need to do that without try twist your experience into our experience into our words our community?
aware that advocacy goes beyond about you?
aware that you can’t speak for all autistic? aware that you shouldn’t speak for all autistic?
are you aware of when you need to stop talking & listen & amplify others? aware of when and how to decenter self?
aware that even this long post, barely scratch surface? still so much to say?
