📞💔 To our great regret, following in the footsteps of Russia’s VK Group and its quiet farewell to ICQ, Microsoft has now officially shut down Skype — a true legend of the 2000s internet era. What once defined how we connected, called, and chatted across the globe has been silenced… not by users, but by boardroom decisions.
💻 Skype wasn't just software — it was a cultural milestone. It brought faces to voices, bridged continents in seconds, and made "Skyping" a verb in dozens of languages. Its shutdown is not just sad — it's irreplaceable. Another digital monument lost to corporate fatigue.
📉 This only proves one thing: well-paid marketers and project managers have repeatedly failed to breathe new life into legacy platforms. Instead of adapting tradition to modern times, they let icons wither. And for what? Another feature-bloated app with no soul?
🌐 But we haven’t lost hope. If Winamp can rise from the ashes, why not Skype? Why not AIM? Why not ICQ? Maybe, just maybe, it won’t be Microsoft or VK who lead the resurrection — maybe it’ll be an indie developer or a bold startup that understands nostalgia can be modern.
👀 Paging Yahoo Inc. and AOL… We’re waiting.

Why Is Social Selling Software Important for Businesses Today?
Social selling software is essential for businesses today because it allows companies to engage with customers on their favorite social media platforms. By using this software, businesses can build stronger, more personal relationships with their audience. Engaging with customers where they spend the most time fosters trust and loyalty, which can lead to increased sales opportunities and brand connection.
Tumblr media
One key feature of social selling software is instant messaging for business, which enables clear and quick communication. Businesses can respond to customer inquiries in real-time, providing fast answers that encourage quicker purchasing decisions. This immediate interaction removes any confusion in the buying process, making it easier for customers to complete their purchases, thus boosting sales.
Additionally, customer experience automation is a valuable component of social selling software. This automation handles routine tasks like follow-up messages or answering frequently asked questions, saving time while ensuring customers receive timely responses. Automating these interactions helps maintain customer engagement and satisfaction without requiring extensive manual efforts.
Staying competitive in today’s market requires businesses to leverage social selling software. It not only improves customer engagement and communication but also increases efficiency through automation, helping businesses grow sales and build lasting relationships with their customers. An adversarial iMessage client for Android
Tumblr media
Adversarial interoperability is one of the most reliable ways to protect tech users from predatory corporations: that's when a technologist reverse-engineers an existing product to reconfigure or mod it (interoperability) in ways its users like, but which its manufacturer objects to (adversarial):
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/10/adversarial-interoperability
"Adversarial interop" is a mouthful, so at EFF, we coined the term "competitive compatibility," or comcom, which is a lot easier to say and to spell.
Scratch any tech success and you'll find a comcom story. After all, when a company turns its screws on its users, it's good business to offer an aftermarket mod that loosens them again. HP's $10,000/gallon inkjet ink is like a bat-signal for third-party ink companies. When Mercedes announces that it's going to sell you access to your car's accelerator pedal as a subscription service, that's like an engraved invitation to clever independent mechanics who'll charge you a single fee to permanently unlock that "feature":
https://www.techdirt.com/2023/12/05/carmakers-push-forward-with-plans-to-make-basic-features-subscription-services-despite-widespread-backlash/
Comcom saved giant tech companies like Apple. Microsoft tried to kill the Mac by rolling out a truly cursèd version of MS Office for MacOS. Mac users (5% of the market) who tried to send Word, Excel or Powerpoint files to Windows users (95% of the market) were stymied: their files wouldn't open, or they'd go corrupt. Tech managers like me started throwing the graphic designer's Mac and replacing it with a Windows box with a big graphics card and Windows versions of Adobe's tools.
Comcom saved Apple's bacon. Apple reverse-engineered MS's flagship software suite and made a comcom version, iWork, whose Pages, Numbers and Keynote could flawlessly read and write MS's Word, Excel and Powerpoint files:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/06/adversarial-interoperability-reviving-elegant-weapon-more-civilized-age-slay
It's tempting to think of iWork as benefiting Apple users, and certainly the people who installed and used it benefited from it. But Windows users also benefited from iWork. The existence of iWork meant that Windows users could seamlessly collaborate on and share files with their Mac colleagues. IWork didn't just add a new feature to the Mac ("read and write files that originated with Windows users") – it also added a feature to Windows: "collaborate with Mac users."
Every pirate wants to be an admiral. Though comcom rescued Apple from a monopolist's sneaky attempt to drive it out of business, Apple – now a three trillion dollar company – has repeatedly attacked comcom when it was applied to Apple's products. When Apple did comcom, that was progress. When someone does comcom to Apple, that's piracy.
Apple has many tools at its disposal that Microsoft lacked in the early 2000s. Radical new interpretations of existing copyright, contract, patent and trademark law allows Apple – and other tech giants – to threaten rivals who engage in comcom with both criminal and civil penalties. That's right, you can go to prison for comcom these days. No wonder Jay Freeman calls this "felony contempt of business model":
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/09/lead-me-not-into-temptation/#chamberlain
Take iMessage, Apple's end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) instant messaging tool. Apple customers can use iMessage to send each other private messages that can't be read or altered by third parties – not cops, not crooks, not even Apple. That's important, because when private messaging systems get hacked, bad things happen:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_celebrity_nude_photo_leak
But Apple has steadfastly refused to offer an iMessage app for non-Apple systems. If you're an Apple customer holding a sensitive discussion with an Android user, Apple refuses to offer you a tool to maintain your privacy. Those messages are sent "in the clear," over the 38-year-old SMS protocol, which is trivial to spy on and disrupt.
Apple sacrifices its users' security and integrity in the hopes that they will put pressure on their friends to move into Apple's walled garden. As CEO Tim Cook told a reporter: if you want to have secure communications with your mother, buy her an iPhone:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tim-cook-says-buy-mom-210347694.html
Last September, a 16-year old high school student calling himself JJTech published a technical teardown of iMessage, showing how any device could send and receive encrypted messages with iMessage users, even without an Apple ID:
https://jjtech.dev/reverse-engineering/imessage-explained/
JJTech even published code to do this, in an open source library called Pypush:
https://github.com/JJTech0130/pypush
In the weeks since, Beeper has been working to productize JJTech's code, and this week, they announced Beeper Mini, an Android-based iMessage client that is end-to-end encrypted:
https://beeper.notion.site/How-Beeper-Mini-Works-966cb11019f8444f90baa314d2f43a54
Beeper is known for a multiprotocol chat client built on Matrix, allowing you to manage several kinds of chat from a single app. These multiprotocol chats have been around forever. Indeed, iMessage started out as one – when it was called "iChat," it supported Google Talk and Jabber, another multiprotocol tool. Other tools like Pidgin have kept the flame alive for decades, and have millions of devoted users:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/07/tower-babel-how-public-interest-internet-trying-save-messaging-and-banish-big
But iMessage support has remained elusive. Last month, Nothing launched Sunchoice, a disastrous attempt to bring iMessage to Android, which used Macs in a data-center to intercept and forward messages to Android users, breaking E2EE and introducing massive surveillance risks:
https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/21/23970740/sunbird-imessage-app-shut-down-privacy-nothing-chats-phone-2
Beeper Mini does not have these defects. The system encrypts and decrypts messages on the Android device itself, and directly communicates with Apple's servers. It gathers some telemetry for debugging, and this can be turned off in preferences. It sends a single SMS to Apple's servers during setup, which changes your device's bubble from green to blue, so that Apple users now correctly see your device as a secure endpoint for iMessage communications.
Beeper Mini is now available in Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima&hl=en_US
Now, this is a high-stakes business. Apple has a long history of threatening companies like Beeper over conduct like this. And Google has a long history deferring to those threats – as it did with OG App, a superior third-party Instagram app that it summarily yanked after Meta complained:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/05/battery-vampire/#drained
But while iMessage for Android is good for Android users, it's also very good for Apple customers, who can now get the privacy and security guarantees of iMessage for all their contacts, not just the ones who bought the same kind of phone as they did. The stakes for communications breaches have never been higher, and antitrust scrutiny on Big Tech companies has never been so intense.
Apple recently announced that it would add RCS support to iOS devices (RCS is a secure successor to SMS):
https://9to5mac.com/2023/11/16/apple-rcs-coming-to-iphone/
Early word from developers suggests that this support will have all kinds of boobytraps. That's par for the course with Apple, who love to announce splashy reversals of their worst policies – like their opposition to right to repair – while finding sneaky ways to go on abusing its customers:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/22/vin-locking/#thought-differently
The ball is in Apple's court, and, to a lesser extent, in Google's. As part of the mobile duopoly, Google has joined with Apple in facilitating the removal of comcom tools from its app store. But Google has also spent millions on an ad campaign shaming Apple for exposing its users to privacy risks when talking to Android users:
https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/21/23883609/google-rcs-message-apple-iphone-ipager-ad
While we all wait for the other shoe to drop, Android users can get set up on Beeper Mini, and technologists can kick the tires on its code libraries and privacy guarantees.

Imagine planning your future with the person you love—your wedding, your home, your life together—only to have it all destroyed in an instant by war.
Imagine losing your home, your job, and your sense of safety, and watching your dreams turn to ashes while you struggle just to survive.
For Yossef, this is his heartbreaking reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@yosef-gaza113
Story written by @rumiandroses
Yossef, a 24-year-old from Gaza, once lived a life filled with hope and joy. He had a steady job as an accountant, a warm home, and a bright future planned with his fiancée, Ruba. They were eagerly looking forward to their wedding, set for February 2024—a celebration of love and unity. But the devastating effects of war have shattered all those dreams.
The bombing of Gaza stripped Yossef and his family of everything they held dear. Their home, once a sanctuary, was reduced to rubble. His job, a source of pride and stability, disappeared as the company where he worked ceased operations. Now displaced, Yossef, his family of 12, and his fiancée’s family are struggling to survive in temporary shelters, scattered and unable to reunite easily due to the cost and danger of travel.
Ruba, a bright and ambitious young woman studying software engineering, has also seen her life upended. Her family’s home and all her belongings, including her wedding dress, were destroyed. The cost of her online education, once a beacon of hope, has become an impossible burden. Both she and Yossef are determined to create a better future, but they lack the resources to move forward.
For two years, they’ve clung to the dream of getting married and building a life together, but that dream feels increasingly out of reach. They have no home, no income, and no means to afford Ruba’s education or even basic necessities. Despite all this, they remain steadfast in their hope and are reaching out for help.
Yossef and Ruba’s story is one of resilience and love in the face of unimaginable hardship. They are asking for support to rebuild their lives—support that can help provide shelter, continue Ruba’s education, and restore the future they’ve been fighting to hold onto.
Every donation, no matter how small, is a step toward reuniting this young couple and helping them create a life filled with the love and security they deserve. Please consider donating to their campaign and sharing their story. Together, we can make a difference.
You can donate to Youssef's Chuffed campaign [HERE].
UPDATE (12/25/24):
Tumblr media
This morning, I received a message from Youssef. He is just $350 away from being able to evacuate to safety from recent attacks. This is such an attainable goal if we band together! Please consider donating, and if you’re unable to, sharing his story can make all the difference. Thank you! 🙏

connor idea: after escaping the zen garden during markus' speech, that is unfortunately not the last he sees of it. the connection between him and the external server of the zen garden keeps getting rebuilt and he gets pulled in and retrapped over and over, posing a threat to both connor as he nearly freezes to death inside and everyone around him when he's not in control.
done with the stress, he disconnects himself from the internet. weeks pass, and... it's stopped. he's fine. finally, he has an escape. but he goes back online for just a moment, just to send a message or something equally small, and gets immediately pulled back in again. it's relentless- every moment he's online is another second used to pull him under again. he completely turns off his internet connection until further notice, making him incapable of using it for anything- no info searches, no instant-identification, no software updates that might be rolling out, nothing.
he's utterly isolated. no android was ever meant to be permanently removed from the internet. he feels blinded, like one of his essential senses was just cut off. humans grew up learning things, but androids like him were printed into an adult body and adult mind, given no time to learn- access to the world's wealth of information was how they functioned despite that. connor loses this access, while all other androids just continue on, knowing things instantly that he just can't anymore.
of course, there's always phone lines, though. he can still text and call- he can still communicate wirelessly and instantly, like any other android. even if he's lost in terms of information, at least the world isn't completely cut off to him.
but then he finds himself in the garden again anyway.
amanda is too advanced. she IS code, she understands the nonphysical world unlike any other consciousness alive, and she'll twist anything she can into a new access point. absolutely anything is a weakness, and cell service is just another avenue of connection to exploit. connor is forced to disconnect from phone services, too.
one by one, all of his communications are cut off the same way. every little thing is a vulnerability, direct access into his brain. he can't interface with any devices lest the connection between him and its own internet access be exploited. he can't even do bluetooth or short-range transmissions to other androids anymore, whether out of fear or real risk not really mattering anymore. he has to get any software updates he might want or need by going directly to his friends so they can update him manually with no gap a malicious program can slip through.
hell, amanda might not be the only one after such a useful, dangerous tool like him.
he's not a human. he's an android. it's like having limbs cut off. he can't even interface with other androids anymore- despite their advanced protections, it's only a matter of time before his friends' own connections to the internet and anything else will be anything but another risk.
he ends up getting all his connectivity functions physically removed. nothing in him that can receive wireless signals, nothing that can function as any kind of external breach- nothing can get him if those functions can't even be turned on again because they aren't even there. pieces removed until he's as isolated as an '80s desktop computer. despite hesitation he ends up getting his mere ability to interface physically removed too. completely cut off from his own people, his coded mind completely isolated from threat.
his only consolation is getting a cell phone. it's barely a glimpse into what he had before- more of an aid to make up a tiny bit for what he's lost- but at least there's that.

THE ZENIN GETS ME WETTER
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
notes: I literally have the biggest crush on maki ever known to man. I love her so so much. May be a little inappropriate, so here's your warning now!
Tumblr media
Walking into the house, the blaring sound of the music deafened me immediately. It was a Saturday, which meant one thing ; it was time for me to relax and have fun after a long week of hard work and effort ( I attended one class).
My black dress hugged my body perfectly, barely covering the important parts. I felt the click of my heels against the wooden floor, my eyes searching for my friend, Choso. He was my brother's best friend and a family friend in general. My parents had always tasked him with taking care of me when I went out as we attended university at the same campus.
My medical course had been draining the life out of me, so a party is just what I needed to get me feeling alive again.
My eyes landed on him quickly as I extended my arm, waving him over. He wore a white graphic tee with a pair of baggy jeans, the black locks of his hair cascading from two pigtails. His baby hairs sat on his forehead, making the effect of bangs. He gave me a soft smile, which quickly disappeared after he saw what I was wearing.
"What the hell are you wearing?" He shouted over the music, his voice barely audible.
"Oh, come on! It's just a one-time thing. I just felt like being hot today!" I said in reply, smiling widely.
"Yeah, you do look hot, but that's what all the other men are gonna think! Who knows what kind of lewd thoughts they'll be having about you?" He protested, attempting to cover me from being seen by others.
"I'm not interested in what the men think." I told him plainly, my eyes surfing the crowd to see if she was here. Choso rolled his eyes and mumbled at me before I spotted my friend, Yuuta.
I pushed Choso away as he went to join a different group of people, telling him I'd message him later. I walked over to Yuuta, who stood in a corner with a boy who I knew to be Inumaki. He was studying software engineering here. He wore his usual turtle neck, which made me wonder if he would ever come out of his shell a little more.
"Hey, Y/N!" He said, handing me a red cup. I looked at the liquid in it, downing it quickly, the burn in my throat boosting my adrenaline. As I finished up my drink, I looked at the boy who looked pleased to be here.
"Didn't take you as the party type, Yuuta." I teased. "You too, Inumaki. Why are you guys here?" I asked them as they laughed.
"Yeah... we just wanted to try something new, y'know! But I'm not sure we wanted to try something new." Inumaki spoke quietly.
"Fair enough. Parties are always a nice way to let loose." I looked around awkwardly, not wanting to ask the inevitable.
"I know what you're thinking." Yuuta spoke, causing me to look at him promptly.
I hummed at him as my face flushed, causing both him and Inumaki to chuckle.
"She's here, don't worry. Although she didn't seem too happy about it." My face lit up at Yuuta's words, the thought of seeing her making my day.
As if my mind had been read, she strutted toward us within an instant. My heartbeat quickened, seeing her in a pair of tight, black, leather trousers and a black sleevless top to match. My jaw practically dropped as my eyes remained glued to her perfect frame. I almost drooled, my knees giving in, causing me to almost drop down and beg her to hold me. I looked away quickly, trying to mask my pure infatuation. She smiled as she approached us, stopping in her tracks once she was close enough.
"Hey, Y/N. Didn't know you were here." She smirked, swirling her cup slowly.
"Oh! Uh, yeah! I didn't know I would be here either, aha... But here we are!" I stuttered, my embarrassment engulfing me when Inumaki and Yuuta snickered.
"Where'd you get the dress? Looks good." Maki complimented, making me go crazy.
"Thanks! It was a gift, actually." I replied, trying not to sound like the lovestruck girl I was.
"You sure are drawing attention with it." Her eyes dropped to my exposed cleavage, causing me to yelp quietly.
Inumaki and Yuuta looked at each other, muttering something about going to the toilet before scurrying away.
Traitors.
I felt my underwear dampen by the second as the girl inspected me, her eyes tracing every line of my dress.
"Who you looking good for, hmm? Can't be doing all this for no reason." She probed, inching closer towards me.
"Well, uh." I hesitated, the alcohol taking over as I became unfazed by the possible consequences. "You."
Her face became strewn with mischief, her hands slyly groping my waist as we were now flush against each other.
"All this for me? I love being spoiled by pretty girls." I blushed at her words, hanging my head slightly. She placed her hand on the bottom of my chin, lifting my head up so my eyes met hers. She leaned in, her breath lingering on my earlobe as she placed a soft kiss on it and whispered. "If you look so pretty now, I wonder whats underneath."
I was soaked.
Her lips met my neck, placing gentle, sloppy kisses along my skin. I hummed at the contact, a feeling of lust completely taking over my body.
Maki Zenin wants me? I must be dreaming...

Why Instant Messaging is Important for Modern Customer Service
Customer service has evolved a lot over the years, and today, people expect quick and easy communication. That's why instant messaging for business is becoming so popular. It’s fast, convenient, and allows companies to interact with customers in real-time. Here’s why incorporating instant messaging into your customer service strategy is a smart move.
Tumblr media
Real-Time Communication Enhances Customer Experience
One of the biggest advantages of instant messaging for business is the ability to communicate with customers instantly. Unlike emails, which can take time to be read and answered, instant messaging allows for immediate responses. This quick interaction can improve the overall customer experience, making customers feel valued and heard. When customers can get answers quickly, it builds trust and satisfaction, which are key to retaining them.
Instant Messaging is Convenient for Customers
People love convenience, and instant messaging offers just that. Customers can reach out to businesses from their phones, laptops, or tablets without needing to make a call or wait on hold. This ease of access means that customers are more likely to use instant messaging to get help or ask questions. By making it easy for customers to contact you, your business can provide a higher level of service that meets the needs of today’s busy consumers.
Integrating with Social Media Platforms
Incorporating instant messaging with social media customer service software can take your customer service to the next level. Social media is where many customers spend their time, so it makes sense to meet them there. By using software that integrates social media messaging with your customer service systems, you can manage all customer interactions in one place. This approach not only saves time but also ensures that no message goes unanswered, improving your overall efficiency.
Centralizing Communication with a Unified Platform
Using a social media customer service platform allows businesses to centralize their communication efforts. Instead of juggling multiple channels, a unified platform brings everything together, making it easier to manage. This setup helps businesses keep track of customer interactions, maintain a consistent tone, and provide better support. A centralized platform streamlines the customer service process, making it easier for teams to collaborate and respond to inquiries promptly.
Conclusion
Instant messaging is becoming a must-have tool for businesses looking to provide top-notch customer service. By adopting instant messaging for business, companies can offer real-time communication, improve customer satisfaction, and stay competitive. Integrating this with social media customer service software and using a centralized platform can further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of your customer service efforts. Adopting these tools can help your business build stronger relationships with customers and provide the kind of service that keeps them coming back.
