if your response to an aromantic person challenging assumptions and norms about relationships and standing firm on the fact that no actions or degrees of affection/commitment/intensity of feelings etc are inherently romantic and the only people who get to define a relationship are the people in it is to get so mad you feel the need to pitch a fit at them about how guess ALL WORDS ARE MEANINGLESS and there’s NO POINT in even having words like romantic and platonic WHY BOTHER (implying also that they’re being stupid and ridiculous in the process) then there’s some things you clearly need to work on and unpack and you need to do that in a way that sucks less.
#gav gab#I’m aromantic AND defining my relationships#as explicitly and strictly platonic#is very important to me#and nobody - including other aros btw! - get to take that away from me#or minimize it#part of aromanticism to me is being allowed to give no quarter to romance in my life#even in the ‘fuck labels/Lines So Blurred Blah Blah/romantic and platonic is a fake binary’ sense#like nah sorry#being able to say no this is explicitly and specifically and wholly not romance and never will be#is critical to my sense of self and my relationships as an aro person#if that makes you uncomfortable or confused#given how important intimacy and affection and closeness are to me#interpersonally and creatively in my work#please feel free to not take that out on me and process it in your own time#aro blogging

actually there's no need to make this assignment any more complicated than it already is. horatio vs patroclus 'the lovers' epilogue' short story from 2021 revamped now ok?
#i have to do 7k words (4k creative 3k critical) and my extension isnt for as long as id like. my initial project is fun but im not in a#headspace rn to be able to do it justice and im needlessly panicking about it being perfect. i think it might be best to work with smth i#already have the groundwork for in the kind of layout i work best in (two characters yapping with minimum external description)#i stopped it in 2021ish because i found it a bit too fanfic-y for my tastes but. happy 2025 this is on cambridge for letting me in.#stay tuned :)#notnow#and tbf. fanficness aside. i was onto smth insofar as the actual foils went... horatio who resents patroclus being associated with him from#the moment he didnt actually have to deal with the aftermath of losing someone and got to simply 'jumpstart' the action instead#patroclus got to do the easy thing (die). horatio has to carry the epilogue#and yet theyre both often positioned as respective parallels/classical lovers in popular discourse. which i think is very fascinating#and comes with delightful interpersonal crossover implications#anyway. you can also tell this idea was old because i was still writing about men

THIS
I've been thinking about this a lot recently especially after reading The Chained Arc in the most recent Superman comics
Here you have this insanely powerful character that's being introduced, that seemingly is able to destroy anything without even touching it and is being shown as insanely powerful. They assume he's just full on telekinetic until-

The Chains even acknowledges the untapped potential Kon has

In the next issue it's even confirmed that Kons ttk is based off of this dude's

While his baseline ttk is not as strong as the Chained's, it acknowledged that it could be, that there's that potential. When I read that, immediately my mind went to this moment from superboy #84
Since Kons ttk went largely ignored after Geoff Johns' retcon gave him proper Kryptonian powers, I for one am very excited to see it being brought back and showing off it's potential in such a grand way

One of the things that’s fascinating about Superboy to me as a shameless powerscaler is that he’s like. Right on the edge of being too powerful. There’s a line between characters that can be active heroes and beings that are so powerful as to basically be gods, who have to be shuffled off to their own corners of canon and only show up for really big cosmic threats so as to not break the plausibility of the setting. Superman stays out of Gotham, Silver Surfer stays out in space, Jean Gray dies if she goes full Phoenix. Kon should be in that category, but no one at DC pays enough attention to him to realize it.
Can you imagine? A character who is basically Jean Gray and Superman combined, but no one ever thinks about it because he wears silly shades and a leather jacket and his telekinesis has a minor range limitation that he’s outgrowing. If you seriously introduced a character like that, the idea of them being an oft-ignored minor character would be laughable.
And yet, somehow Kon sneaks in under the radar! At least part of it is the Kryptonian powerset, obviously. Between the various members of the Superfam and the many copies and parodies across different settings, we get used to treating all those very powerful abilities as one thing, so it doesn’t feel like as big a deal to add all of them onto one other power, especially when Tactile Telekinesis is often forgotten or underused by writers who can’t manage inventive power use.
But what it all adds up to is one of the most powerful characters in DC canon, with a huge amount of room to grow, being consistently treated as a minor sidekick. It’s truly wild.
#sorry for the rant#i have lots of thoughts about powers and working within the limitations of them through creative means#I also really like how the chained basically operates with elementary School logic as shown at the beginning of issue 8#“well I'm actually touching the air and the air is touching everything so technically I'm touching everything” AND THAT JUST WORKS???#this was also just an excuse for me to rant about the ongoing Superman series cuz I love it very very much#also wanted to add on but I didn't feel like it fit#but DC in particular is very good at creating god-like characters that fit within the realm of their worlds without being too powerful#op kind of mentions that with Superman staying at a Gotham and what not#but my mind went to Flash stories and how most of them are very interpersonal drama type stories#the stories are structured to be very interpersonal cuz the second that it's not it could be world ending

Riddle Rosehearts
When Professor Trein approached Riddle with the task of watching his twin grandchildren for an afternoon, Riddle felt a surge of pride and immediate stress. “A demonstration of responsibility,” the professor had said with a knowing glance. Of course, the twist was that you’d be watching them with him.
He'd barely made it to the faculty quarters with the twins before they began running in opposite directions, giggling. One made a beeline for a bookshelf while the other tried to unbutton Riddle's blazer. You calmly scooped one up with a laugh and offered a distracted Riddle a reassuring smile. “We’ve got this.”
“Indeed,” he said, although his voice cracked slightly.
The afternoon was a test of patience, creativity, and teamwork. The twins were mischievous but not unmanageable, especially with your steadying presence. You suggested a tea party—“Just like in Heartslabyul, Riddle”—and helped set out little plastic cups, cookies, and juice. The twins delighted in it, making Riddle the "tea king" while you were “his queen,” to which Riddle flushed a bright pink but didn't correct them.
He even loosened up. At one point, you caught him kneeling beside a stuffed bear, seriously asking if it took sugar in its tea, and your heart melted.
Later, when the twins were napping in a sunlit corner of the lounge, curled up with stuffed animals, Riddle sat beside you on the couch, sipping lukewarm tea you both forgot to drink. He was unusually quiet.
“You were great with them,” you said, brushing a crumb from his sleeve.
He looked at the sleeping children, eyes soft and thoughtful. “I always feared I’d be too strict. That I’d repeat my mother’s mistakes. But... I felt something different today.”
You leaned your head on his shoulder, and he hesitantly took your hand in his.
“I think… if it were with you… a future like this wouldn't be so terrifying,” he whispered. “Perhaps even… something to look forward to.”
And for a moment, the world was quiet—just the hum of a peaceful room, the steady rhythm of children’s breaths, and the quiet, blooming thought of someday.
Leona Kingscholar
You'd never seen Leona more alarmed than when a magical mirror blinked open to deliver a very energetic Cheka into his dorm room—complete with suitcase, plushie, and an extremely chipper "UNCLE LEOOO!"
Apparently, Crowley thought it a wonderful learning opportunity for Leona to engage with family during the school’s "Interpersonal Growth Week." And Crowley, in his infinite wisdom, roped you in as Leona’s "emotional support."
Cheka tackled Leona’s legs with a hug, and the big bad lion grumbled something unintelligible, already looking exhausted. You knelt to greet Cheka with a wide smile and a friendly high-five, which the little lion cub enthusiastically returned.
The next few hours were chaos wrapped in a sugar high.
You tried crafts—Cheka glued everything to the table. You tried games—Cheka turned hide-and-seek into a full-blown stealth mission that almost broke a vase. Leona had all but collapsed on the couch, arms crossed over his eyes, muttering, “I need a nap from this nap.”
But then—magic.
The three of you ended up outside in a sunny corner of the savannah-like lounge. Cheka chased butterflies while you helped Leona set up a blanket and snacks. You fed each other bits of dried fruit while pretending you weren't watching Cheka try to roar at squirrels.
Leona eventually laid down, head resting in your lap as he watched the sky.
“You’re good with him,” you said, fingers brushing through his hair.
“Tch. I just didn’t want him breaking anything.”
“Uh huh. Sure.”
He huffed but didn’t deny it. Instead, he turned his head slightly, golden eyes catching yours. “You’re the one who’s a natural. Think you’d survive if we had a few of our own running around?”
The way he said it was casual, but there was weight behind the words. His gaze didn’t waver.
Your heart did a little somersault.
“I think we’d survive,” you replied, smiling. “And you’d be better at it than you think.”
Leona snorted softly. “Maybe. As long as they don’t wake me up before noon.”
“Deal. I’ll be the morning parent. You handle bedtime.”
He smirked. “Bet I’d be great at bedtime stories.”
That night, Cheka finally fell asleep with you reading to him while Leona lazily played with the boy’s hair. The warm glow of the dorm’s lighting, the distant buzz of cicadas, and Leona’s hand resting on yours as he watched his nephew drift off—it all felt like a fleeting glimpse into another life. A quieter one. A better one.
Later, after Cheka was tucked in, Leona didn’t say much. He just leaned into you, holding you a little tighter than usual, his voice a low murmur against your hair:
“I wouldn't mind this. With you. A pride of our own.”
Azul Ashengrotto
It all started when a local couple from the Coral Sea sent a formal request to the Mostro Lounge. They were in urgent need of a sitter for their precocious little mer-child, Mira, during a diplomatic visit to the surface. Azul, ever the businessman, couldn’t resist an opportunity to help—especially with you involved.
“This is strictly a professional arrangement,” Azul said, straightening his tie as he paced the Lounge. “We’re simply... fulfilling a need. With compensation. Nothing more.”
You rolled your eyes affectionately. “So, you’re not looking forward to spending time with an adorable tiny sea-creature and me?”
He flushed to the tips of his ears. “I never said that.”
The moment Mira arrived, everything spiraled beautifully out of Azul’s control. The little one was all curious tentacles, gleaming eyes, and boundless questions. She immediately took a liking to you, tugging your hand and asking if you were “Mr. Azul’s princess.”
Azul nearly choked on his own breath.
You spent the afternoon in the VIP room of the Lounge turned “child-safe zone,” crafting with enchanted water paints, building pillow forts, and watching Mira “swim” in circles around the furniture. Azul tried to stay aloof at first, but Mira eventually suckered him in with wide eyes and a tragic, “I need someone to be the sea king in my game!”
He relented with a sigh that masked a small smile. “Very well. But only because the realm demands it.”
You watched as he donned a makeshift crown made of napkins and posed dramatically while Mira shrieked with joy. Your heart swelled at the sight—Azul, so often rigid and serious, pretending to grant royal decrees while holding a glitter-covered wand.
Later, when Mira was curled up on a plush bench, dozing peacefully with your coat wrapped around her like a blanket, Azul sat beside you, strangely quiet.
“She reminds me of myself,” he said softly. “Always watching, always asking questions. Curious. Smart.”
“She’s sweet. And she adores you.”
He chuckled under his breath. “Temporarily, perhaps. Children change quickly.”
You nudged his shoulder. “She didn’t see the business mogul. She saw someone kind and gentle. Someone safe.”
He looked down at his gloved hands. “I never imagined myself with a family. I didn’t think I was built for that kind of softness. But with you here… it doesn’t seem so foolish.”
You reached out and laced your fingers with his, resting your head on his shoulder.
“It’s not foolish at all.”
He squeezed your hand in return, and together, you watched Mira sleep—Azul’s heart caught somewhere between fear and hope, wondering for the first time if maybe, someday, he could create a world where a child of his own wouldn’t have to hide who they were.
Kalim Al-Asim
It was supposed to be a simple favor—watching one of Jamil’s younger cousins for the afternoon while the rest of the Asim family attended a formal banquet. You and Kalim were already spending the weekend at the Scalding Sands estate, so it seemed like no big deal.
That is… until little Layla arrived.
A tiny whirlwind in a flowing dress, Layla was the human embodiment of a sugar rush. She immediately tackled Kalim in a hug, shrieking, “COUSIN KALIM!” as he caught her mid-spin and lifted her into the air like a carnival ride.
“Kalim, she’s going to launch herself into orbit,” you laughed as Layla shrieked in delight.
“She’s light as a feather!” Kalim grinned. “Come on, let’s play palace adventure!”
The next few hours were a technicolor blur of activity. Kalim turned the entire courtyard into an elaborate obstacle course. You both took turns being “guards” or “thieves” as Layla declared herself “Queen of the Flying Carpets.” There were glittery sticker crowns involved, you wore one. Kalim wore four. He looked fabulous.
Kalim was born for this. He matched Layla’s energy effortlessly, spinning stories, making her laugh, and doing every silly voice. You helped bake cookies together (well, tried—Layla mostly just poured sugar in everything while Kalim pretended not to notice). At one point, Layla sat in Kalim’s lap while he played a lullaby on an oud, her little eyes drooping as she leaned into him, totally at peace.
When she finally fell asleep in a cozy mountain of cushions, Kalim looked at you with a warmth in his eyes that was deeper than usual. Not just sunshine—something realer, steadier.
“You’re amazing with her,” you whispered.
He smiled wide but soft. “So are you. She really likes you, y'know.”
He paused then, eyes flicking toward the sleeping child, and his smile grew quieter. Thoughtful.
“Hey… do you think someday, we could do this again? Not for someone else. Just… us.”
Your breath caught at how gentle his voice was. How unguarded.
“With our own little one?” you asked.
“Yeah,” he nodded, reaching for your hand. “I used to think I’d never be still long enough for that kind of life. But with you… I think I could be. I want to share all this joy with someone. With a family.”
You leaned into him, head against his shoulder as the warm breeze swept past, carrying the scent of cardamom and sugar.
“I’d love that, Kalim.”
He kissed your forehead, the weight of the moment grounding even someone like him.
“Then let’s make it a dream to reach together.”
Vil Schoenheit
It began, like all beautiful disasters do, with Crowley.
Apparently, a child from the local village—eight years old, precocious, and obsessed with “divas”—had written a very passionate letter asking to spend a day with the “fabulous Vil Schoenheit.” It ended up in the headmage’s hands, and of course, he passed it along to Vil with a wink and a “learning experience in mentorship and patience.”
Vil wanted to say no.
But you, of course, smiled and said, “Come on, it might be fun.”
That was how you ended up babysitting a tiny fashion-obsessed firecracker named Sera, who insisted on calling Vil “Miss Vil” and who immediately begged to do makeovers.
“She’s got spirit,” you whispered with a grin as Vil exhaled, brushing a lock of hair behind his ear. “Admirable spirit,” he muttered. “With a worrying love of neon eyeshadow.”
You helped set up a little “studio” in Pomefiore’s drawing room. Vil arranged the mirrors, the light, the seating—because of course he did—and then the three of you got to work. Sera wanted you to do her nails (purple sparkles, no exceptions), while Vil demonstrated eyeliner techniques and gently corrected her brush strokes.
“You must treat your face like art,” he explained patiently, holding her hand as she tried to line her eyes. “Not a battlefield.”
She beamed up at him, utterly starstruck.
Later, she demanded a “runway walk,” so you all spent an hour in the Pomefiore halls, strutting like queens to invisible music. Sera wore one of Vil’s silk scarves as a cape and declared the two of you her “royal beauty parents.”
And Vil—Vil actually laughed. Not the elegant, posed kind, but a real laugh, from the chest.
That evening, with Sera curled up between you on a chaise, happily snacking on sugar-dusted pastries and humming to herself, you noticed Vil watching her. His hand gently smoothed back her hair, his movements soft and careful.
“She’s going to remember this,” you whispered.
He glanced at you, his voice quiet. “So will I.”
You leaned into him, warmth in your chest.
“You were incredible with her,” you said.
He hesitated for a moment, then looked at you with something unguarded in his gaze—no pretense, no performance.
“I used to think children would be... interruptions to my life. But watching her today, seeing her confidence grow just because someone believed in her?” His voice dropped. “I think I’d like that kind of legacy. To build someone up. Guide them. Shape them into someone proud and whole.”
You reached for his hand and laced your fingers together. “You’d be amazing.”
“And you,” he said, brushing your knuckles with his lips, “would be the heart of it all.”
And in the soft silence that followed, with the glow of the setting sun catching in the gold of Vil’s hair, the two of you quietly let the idea take root.
Idia Shroud
Idia’s nightmare began with Ortho cheerfully saying, “Big Brother! You’ve been chosen to babysit my friend’s little sister while their family visits a Space-Tech Expo!”
Idia’s soul left his body right then and there.
“Wh—What?! I—I don’t know how to interact with mini-humans! I barely manage with regular humans—!”
“It’s okay! Y/N will be with you!” Ortho said brightly, clearly having planned this. “Think of it as a co-op quest! With NPC cuteness!”
That’s how you both ended up in Idia’s room, where the lighting was turned to “soft ambient galaxy mode” and a six-year-old girl named Nari was stomping around in your oversized headphones and calling herself “The Boss Monster.”
Idia was frozen at first—tucked in his gamer chair like it was his only line of defense. But you gave him a warm look, handed him a second controller, and said, “C’mon, let’s introduce her to ‘Fantasy Brawl X.’” The game was co-op, cartoony, and had a character that looked suspiciously like Idia with fire hair.
Nari was hooked.
She squealed when she figured out how to make her character jump. Idia mumbled quiet instructions that she somehow understood perfectly. And you, of course, kept the energy balanced—cheering, helping Nari when she got stuck, and giving Idia little confidence boosts every time he muttered, “I’m gonna mess this up…”
You even caught him smiling when she called his gaming skills “SO COOL, like a real boss!”
Hours passed, filled with giggles and glowing screens. You made microwave popcorn and juice box “potions.” Ortho peeked in once and whispered “Level Up!” at Idia, who turned pink and kicked him out.
When Nari finally nodded off on a beanbag chair, hugging a plushie of Idia’s favorite mech character, the room went quiet. The only sound was the hum of LED strips and the soft soundtrack of the paused game.
You turned to find Idia staring at her—his expression unreadable, for once not hidden behind his hair.
“She... wasn’t scared of me,” he said quietly. “She called me cool. Even though I’m... me.”
You moved beside him, laying your head against his shoulder. “That’s because you are cool. And kind. And you gave her a space to just be happy.”
He hesitated, hands fidgeting.
“I didn’t think I could ever picture something like this,” he whispered. “Me. In a family. That’s, like, the opposite of my anime origin story.”
“But…?”
He sighed, almost smiling. “But… if it were with you… maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad ending. Or maybe... a good beginning.”
You kissed his cheek, and his hair turned a shade of glowing pink so fast it lit up the room.
Malleus Draconia
The request came from Lilia.
“I need someone to watch one of the castle’s younger wards while I run errands in Briar Valley,” he said, flashing a mischievous little grin. “You’re good with children, right? And Malleus could use a bit of… exposure to the chaos of mortals.”
Before you could even process what you were agreeing to, you were left with a wide-eyed little fae girl named Aris—no taller than your hip, with bright moss-green hair, tiny horns, and a suspicious amount of energy for someone who literally glowed when she got excited.
“She’s precious,” you whispered.
“She is terrifying,” Malleus replied gravely, watching her zip around your legs with the glee of a creature who’d just discovered sugar.
You had both agreed to spend the afternoon in a quiet glade outside of Diasomnia, where the ancient trees arched high above and the air sparkled faintly with fae magic. Malleus, always fond of serenity, conjured floating lights and flowers that opened at a touch. Aris, of course, immediately declared this was her “kingdom” and that you and Malleus were her “knights.”
Malleus blinked, bewildered. “She… promoted me?”
You laughed. “Congrats, Sir Horns-a-Lot.”
To your surprise, Malleus took his new title seriously. He let Aris ride on his shoulders, gently cradling her little legs with those long, careful fingers. He answered every one of her endless questions about dragons, thorns, and whether he could breathe fire ("Only when properly irritated, young one").
You played tag. You helped make flower crowns. Malleus, despite never doing any of this before, adapted like he'd been waiting for a moment like this his whole life. Watching him kneel in the grass with Aris, guiding her tiny hands to shape a flower into a glowing orb of magic, made something deep in your chest ache in the best way.
When the afternoon faded to dusk, Malleus conjured little floating flameflies and told Aris a fae lullaby. She curled up between you both on a picnic blanket, humming softly, eyes half-lidded, her fingers tangled in Malleus’s cloak.
He looked down at her with something unreadable in his emerald eyes—something warm, gentle, almost reverent.
“She reminds me of the younglings I used to watch from afar,” he murmured. “Always distant. Always curious. But never mine to protect.”
You slid closer, brushing your hand against his. “But she’s here now. And she feels safe with you.”
“She calls me her knight,” he said quietly, a small smile ghosting his lips. “No one has ever said such things to me—not without fear behind it.”
You leaned your head against his arm. “She sees you the way I do.”
He turned toward you, his expression soft.
“Do you think,” he asked, his voice nearly a whisper, “that one day, we could have this? A little one. Not by duty or politics, but… something born of us? Of love?”
Your breath caught, your fingers curling around his.
“I do,” you said, certain and full of emotion. “With all my heart.”
Malleus looked up at the stars, glowing brighter against the indigo sky. And then he closed his eyes, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.
“If this is what the future holds,” he said, “then I have never been more eager to walk toward it.”
In the hush of twilight, with Aris sleeping peacefully between you and the fireflies dancing in the air, Malleus dreamed—not of grandeur, not of ancient destiny, but of a quiet life filled with laughter, tiny footsteps, bedtime stories, and you.

I've been thinking about how differently Agent Stone looks at Eggman vs. how Dr. Starline looks at Eggman. They both love him, but in very different ways.
Starline started out as a huge fanboy, aiming to turn his parasocial relationship with the doctor into an interpersonal one. He built up this ideal in his head of what he thought Eggman was like, based on outside observations. And once he began working directly with Eggman and got to see for himself that the man wasn't everything he envisioned, that disappointment crushed him. He became obsessed with proving to Eggman that he was doing the whole "villain" thing all wrong. You don't do it like this, you do it like that, and to prove that my way is the right way I'm going to conquer the world first and let you stand by my side. Surely you'll realize I was right all along and thank me for my help and this won't blow up in my face at all.
Stone, on the other hand, knows exactly what Eggman is like from having worked under him for a while. He does not care about how "problematic" Eggman is, even when he maybe should; he is 100% ride-or-die for that man, warts and all. And he's not clueless about his position as an underling, either; the Sonic 2 Pre-Quill tie-in comic shows that he can be just as ruthless and cunning as Eggman if he wants. Unlike Starline, Stone has no desire to conquer the world himself, though he absolutely could if he wanted to; he just wants to be part of the doctor's conquest, no matter how big or small that part may be. Ironically enough, by being his sycophant, Agent Stone brings out Dr. Eggman's humanity. Stone loves Eggman unconditionally when unconditional love is something Eggman's never had. Stone gave him a human connection at a time when Eggman believed humanity wasn't worth connecting with; and yet, when Eggman was so desperate for companionship while stuck on the mushroom planet that he put a face on a rock, he didn't call it Agent Boulder, he called it Stone. And in the third movie, he (apparently) died realizing that for all the trouble he went to to seek his grandfather's approval, he already had someone by his side this entire time, someone who never willingly left him in spite of all the mistreatment at his hands.
Eggman is such an interesting and compelling villain to me (specifically in the games and comics and movies) because underneath all the grandiose schemes to take over the world, he's still so painfully human. He admires his grandfather, he envies his cousin, and he got so attached to the AI he created that she wound up becoming a daughter to him. He wants attention, respect, recognition. He can be a caring father (Sage) and a deadbeat dad (Belle) at the same time. He's so goddamn multifaceted and I fucking love it.
I once read a really great post that essentially said Eggman is a right-brained villain (creative, emotional) while Starline is a left-brained villain (calculative, logical) and I've never stopped thinking about it because it's true.
(Btw I'm not trying to say that any of this makes Stone "better" than Starline as a villain/love interest, I'm just pointing out how differently they approach their affection for Eggman and how differently he responds to both of them.)

I remember a post you made about how Sam is good at flavoring mechanics story wise, like singing his bardic inspirations, and a different post you made about how Marisha has seemed to struggle a bit with character motivations, and also how Laura was being conflict averse this campaign. What do you think each player’s biggest strengths and weaknesses are?
I think I may have answered this elsewhere but it's certainly not tagged in a useful manner and I am currently on a train meandering through the dumb state of Connecticut so:
Sam is as mentioned very good at knowing what makes a good story and specifically good entertainment. However, I think he tends to be one of the cast members who most wants very clear GM guidance; his boldest move was in fact one that required GM involvement and pre-approval. Honestly these are two sides of the same coin; caring about the audience is good, but caring too much can be an issue.
Marisha, yeah, I think tends to lean towards very loose/find it along the way character concepts and I think she actually does better when there is a stronger structure for her character. I'm going to be honest - prior to Campaign 3 I'd say her strength was interpersonal relationships, and to be fair the interpersonal aspect in C3 for everyone was kind of a mess so it's not specifically her (and if future works are good I'll write it off as just One Bad Campaign/specific to one character and return to this as her strength), but as is, not so much as a player, but I do genuinely believe she is excellent at creative direction. I think her switch to pandemic programming was one of the strongest and smoothest I saw in the actual play industry (granted, limited) and I think most shows CR has done that haven't gone over well have been issues of scheduling or uh. fandom entitlement, more than any missteps on her part.
Laura's weakness is definitely nonconfrontation/worrying that she is doing the right thing. (She and Sam are not dissimilar in that, but Sam counterbalances it by embracing failure and she also struggles with letting a character fail). Marisha benefits from structure, as with Keyleth, and Laura benefits from having a character that either lets her turn those anxieties off, like Jester, or who leans into that being the character's fear, like Vex. Her strength is that she is one of the strongest actors in the cast if not the strongest (Laura, Travis, and Ashley tend to top my personal list in terms of sheer acting chops). Even when I've found her characters frustrating I've found her acting compelling, hence what I said about soap operas that one time.
Liam's weakness is, and this is extremely a personal preference - all are, but whereas I can make a semi-objective case for many of the others this is just me, being sappy as hell. I had difficulty with Vax for this precise reason while still generally enjoying the character's motivation and arc; Liam is in my opinion at his best when he deliberately goes for more restrained or antagonistic characters. Like, there's a time to be big and cheesy (eg, the final scene switch of friends around a table in the Chicago live show) but my taste is more sparing perhaps than most (for metaphorical cheese. not for real cheese). His strength I think is also kind of the flip of this coin; he is exceptionally collaborative. I think it's no coincidence that the twins and Caleb and Veth are two of the most enduring duos of "characters who came in together" or that he's managed to do successful romances with NPCs or with a guest actor; during C1 and C2 he was really good at drawing in Ashley when she returned from extended absences.
Taliesin's strength is that he has some of the most interesting and weird character concepts that lend humanity to people who would often be denied it by a narrative - the creator of a horrible weapon; someone literally without a soul; a gutter punk - and he commits to them whole-heartedly, even the uglier parts. I think his weakness is honestly kind of similar to Matt's DM weakness, which is that he straight up has maybe a completely random chance of properly clocking someone else's character's motivations. Like, either he absolutely gets it (eg, Vex) or he says things on Talks or 4SD about other people's characters that make me go "????" and then the actor for the other character goes "????" and I'm like oh ok I'm not wrong. (This perhaps most easily demonstrated with Shardgate, which, great moment, absolutely tops, but the fact that Taliesin the Player thought Matt was doing anything BUT signaling "DON'T FUCKING DO THIS" is ????? to me and always will be; I cannot see how he could have made that more clear.)
Travis, frankly, just Gets It, like, I think the Age of Umbra session zero is demonstrative of him just being able to immediately get to the core of a work. He's strong mechanically, he's strong as an actor, he is able to generate plot hooks from pretty much anything (RIP sidequests from Novos, in a different campaign you would have been great), and he is unafraid to take big swings. He's definitely made choices I am personally less into, but honestly my only real criticism is that he sometimes plays a more jokey character in between the Fjord, Cerrit, Nathaniel types that I prefer (and even then, Grog and Chetney go at least five times harder then their concepts would imply, and it is an error to dismiss them as jokes).
Ashley is also as mentioned a very strong actor, and I also think she is unheralded as a worldbuilder for her characters; Pike, Yasha, and Fearne all have characters or locations associated with them who, even when she's had limited screentime or the story has followed other paths, feel incredibly real. I also think that she's grown a lot mechanically over the course of C3 and shows a lot of promise and I'm interested in seeing what she does with Daggerheart. I think she can be indecisive; as mentioned, I don't really blame her in C3 for a number of reasons not to mention she does a great job of integrating that as a character concept, but I really do want to see her make bolder moves.

Should you go for this job? PAC
Wondering if it would be worth your time? Do you have what it takes? Let’s see what the cards say.
please choose between group 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 from left to right
Group 1 (heart box)

Firstly, I got the idea of clinging to something, or sticking to something too long. Is there someone here who is scared of quitting or switching?
Romance
That’s interesting! My first thought is that it romanced you lol. It’s wined and dined you, and it looks very appealing. If we’re thinking in terms of should/shouldn’t, this can hint to a good match.
Something that blends well with your character, something that you’re attuned to, maybe you already have experience in this type of role, or you just know you would be good in it.
It can also suggest that perhaps a partner, love interest, crush so on so forth is involved somehow. It could also mean you might find a crush at work if you do get it.
I’m feeling good energy from this, even if there are some nerves. It’s just a little bit exciting or nerve racking. I get a good feeling from it though. There’s something about freedom, here. Maybe this job would allow a little more flexibility for your life or within your interpersonal relationships.
It looks like you really want it, and to be honest, why not, if you’re interested.
8 of cups
It’s funny, you’re wined and dined and you leave it all behind. Perhaps you’ll lose interest? But if you think deeply, there’s a need for meaning when it comes to your job role or vocation. Perhaps this might not meet your need for true meaning, a sense of purpose and a feeling like belonging.
If you look more into it, you might find that it doesn’t tick all the boxes after all, or you may have misunderstood something. Maybe there’s something important that this just wouldn’t be able to give you. I wouldn’t say don’t go for it, but I would probably advise not to have rose tinted glasses. I get a big feeling that there are some very strong needs that you can’t compromise on, and you only should if it’s safe to. But to be honest, there may be a better fit elsewhere.
Right so let’s look into your skills and if you are a match.
Outlets and Advocacy
What’s this? A remedy for the daily grind? That’s right, here’s the boost you need to experiment with some new past times and hobbies. Work can feel uncreative sometimes, or not aligned with who you are, or completely and utterly devoid of any sort of meaning or value or shred of humanity - but don’t despair! You have the ability to express yourself in other ways, and life is full of meaningful endeavours. There’s no need to chain your life to a boring job when there are gardens to grow, baseballs to throw, and pudding-based performance art installations to show. Get out there!
Interesting, we talked about needing it to be meaningful for you.
I am my own best advocate. When I have an idea, I share it. When I have a need, I speak up about it. When I tell a joke and none of my coworkers laugh, I make sure to repeat it….and then explain it… and if need be, draw a diagram so everyone gets it.
You might bring some good humor to the workplace lol.
Overall this is good energy of someone who doesn’t sit down and take things. Very active in the workplace, someone who bring their ideas forward, someone who has vision and probably can’t stand a boring or simple type of role. You need some kind of creative input, you need to share those ideas and solutions.
You do have a bit of advice though with outlets, because even if you feel your work lacks meaning right now in this moment, you still have the ability to have meaning in the rest of your life. Your work is not your life, remember you’re more than that and you have meaning no matter what! You give meaning to wherever you are! You add something, wherever you go. You’re important and if you are currently working somewhere now, you are valuable no matter what they say (or don’t).
Now, what does this role ask of you? What does it want from applicants?
Filling the well
Feeling like your brain could use a tiny jump start? It might be time to take a break and go explore some completely unrelated territory for a few days. Wells can only provide so much water before they dry up. And brains are the same way. Regardless, your brain could use a kick in the brain pants, so step away from your routing and head to the nearest museum, park, concert, or chowder cook-off. Do it now! Hurry! Before your boss sees you climbing out the window!
So this role could be adventurous for you, or different than what you have worked in. Could literally involve a public place like museums concert halls etc. Seems kind of cerebral too. Could involve travel. I really feel like saying though, it’s more about your needs than the excitement of it that seems important.
So I think it’ll require more activity, figuring stuff out more, for you to travel from place to place maybe. So if you go for it, maybe ask about that. (It seems like you’re a good match, since you can put yourself out there).
Added note after: So fill your own well with 8 of cups here too. It’s about you finding meaning regardless. You are important and things outside are important. Things you create personally are important and life changing. You are valuable interpersonally! This is a hint to look after yourself right now. You might be overdoing it or expecting too much of yourself currently.
I hope that this helps you understand it a little more and what to keep in mind.
-------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------
Group 2 (shell)

I just got really cold then. Lol.
Look for a sign, and forgiveness.
Another interesting one.
Knight of swords.
Did you have an argument with someone? Or a disagreement? Oh dear, looks like someone said something harsh. Is this more about thinking you should leave as a result, to get away from a current role?
This could also be that you’re clashing with someone in your life. Maybe you’re only thinking of this role because your parent is telling you to “get a job already”. I don’t feel that much interest in it to be honest? This gives me the motivations of “i want to get away from this person, or stop the conflict, so this can be an out.”
Look for a sign is clarified by 7 of cups. It really is giving me the idea that you’re not sure you even want this particular role anyway.
Or - you’re interested but confused if it’s the right fit. There’s just a lot of uncertainty here, and I would say that if you want to know if you should go for something, look at your true desires and motivation. That will give you a good idea on yes or no itself. I don’t think the angels or spirit would encourage you to go for something that doesn’t make you happy, or that doesn’t give you a sense or belonging or that doesn’t ensure your wellbeing.
I really get the vibe that you’re hearing things you don’t want to hear, it’s unpleasant, and you need a break. If it’s possible, maybe get a day off or a day away from your situation. Let your mind rest, because when I see 7 of cups it’s usually when someone has been thinking so much that they’ve become confused. That’s no way to make a decision.
And i’m calling you out - don’t worry, i’ve done it too - you’ve probably been looking outside yourself to be told if you should or shouldn’t. Don’t get me wrong, I get it, you’re here after all, but I’m seeing more doubt in yourself here.
It’s like you don’t trust yourself. This can look like going with the motions, asking spirit for signs (but nothing is good enough or convincing enough), feeling the pressure too much from people around you. Indecision in general. I really feel you, here. Forgiveness could be a nod to forgiving yourself. Why don’t you give yourself a shot? If you had to make a split second decision here and now, would you?
I’m just getting the sense of being really harsh with yourself, remembering the coldness or nastiness of others, and other things all accumulating. Please grab your power back - that’s where the self agency is.
And you know what, even if people disagree with your moves or are unhappy with it - let it be. There’s freedom in that too. I see how down some people are here, and I really feel like your self esteem or confidence has taken a hit.
Peoples words seem to really get to you, but I think there’s a partial reason to this - (I got de ja vu, so strong) Maybe you’ve been bullied or put down very often which I’m so sorry for if true - one of the reasons being is that I see your energy has been kind of…ripped? It’s like a shield that’s disintegrated.
One little thing that I think can help you is to cleanse yourself energetically and shield yourself. You can ask archangel michael to come in, cleanse you of negativity and fear, replace it with positive white light and then ask him to put his blue/purple cloak over you to shield and protect you from outward negative energy. Really close your eyes and visualize this if you can.
A skillset of yours is
Ego
When my selfish ego rears its ugly, screaming little head, i calmly toss it a xanax and ask it to leave me alone. I’m a big, generous person, and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter if smeone else gets the credit for my idea. Because at the end of the day when you really stop to think about it, the idea might end up being bad and then they’ll have to take the fall. So there.
I think this is great. This is a hall mark for someone who can move past things and keep working, keep being involved in a team, let the grudges go etc. This is what you want at the workplace! This is a very professional mindset. More people need to be like you. But at the same time, I get the idea of putting yourself down again.
Let yourself have that bit of fire, let yourself be a little more confident or expressive. It’s for the benefit of the workplace in the end after all.
What does this role ask for?
Prep work
I make friends with the quiet loners- organization and planning - and i suddenly realize how cool they are! I start hanging out with them. And I bend to their influence. I even allow them to give my daily habits a makeover. Normally I wouldn’t succumb to peer pressure, but isn’t efficiency the best? C’mon, just let me fill in one more bullet journal…I promise i’ll be able to stop.
So with this if you do go for it, organizational skills are a must. If you have a job history, make sure you focus and highlight this skillset and examples of it. Good luck if you do go for it.
------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
Group 3 (lightning)

Very strong answer, card popped right out
Oooohhhh, interesting! This is nice imo.
Remain positive
This card talks about there being positive momentum towards this desire, you speed up your dreams with a cheerful or confident demeanour. It may seem like your dreams are taking a long time to manifest, but soon you will see a change. Don’t allow yourself to lose hope when your dreams are so close to coming true!
That’s so funny with the hanged man.
I think straight up it’s probably a good idea, even if you don’t get it, I feel you would be on the right track.
If you go for it, you might have to wait for interviews, there might be a delay in responding, there’s something that might hold it up. Maybe you’ve just been waiting for so long for an opportunity like this. Seize it with both hands! This is clearly something you’re interested in or have been hoping to see this type of role/opportunity. Why on earth wouldn’t you take a shot?
Do you not think you belong there or have a place? Manifestation is strongly hinted here - you can MAKE space. This amuses me, because it could even go so far as making a new role to allow you in. There’s something unusual or different about this situation. If you don’t get this role, you’ll likely manifest something similar or within the same company. The feeling of open possibilities is really strong here for me.
If you wanted confirmation, here it is! It seems exciting. I know it must have been hard. Hanged man comes up usually when we want to do anything BUT wait. When it’s such a drag and we are actively having to practise patience. When we don’t like it or feel frustrated. Maybe you’ve had to give something up, maybe in the past you’ve had to surrender an opportunity like this. Maybe you thought you’ve had signs, but nothing seemed to happen.
Well, you deserve this opportunity. You’ve done the work for it, you’ve put in the energy. I bet the receiving bit was hard lol.
Your skills:
Faith and tenacity
Wowwww you’ve really stuck it out.
I know in my heart that everything will turn out awesome. So I’m willing tyo have faith and trust that anything that isn’t awesome will eventually lead me to something that is. But I’m ready for awesome whenever you are, universe. Y’hear me? Awesome.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try…to remember that there’s an old tired saying about this for a reason. Everyone fails sometimes. But failure is only failure if it happens on the very last page of your story, and since you’re sill breathing that’s not where you’re at right now. So if you’ve hit an obstacle on your way to success, don’t sweat it. Dust off your air quote and hang them on that failure as a reminder that failures are a part of succes, and this is all part of your lifelong job. Then, get right back to it! Your next failure is waiting to bring you closer to your dreams.
You’ve got it all! You can do this! You will get where you want to be and it will be because of you. I’m rooting for you!
What the role asks of you:
Modesty
I am willing to be wrong. I am willing to not know all the answers. I’m even willing to admit to my boss that i screwed up. Behind all this humility is the me that knows it’s better to be modest than to be a die-hard, try-hard, know-it-all. Isn’t that mature and gracious of me? You’re welcome. So funny how it talks about “failure” and now its saying being willing to be wrong. Maybe you should highlight where you’ve been wrong or made mistakes, and how you’ve fixed them and grown? The workplace or people involved could value this trait as well in general. You will likely get along better with the right people if you are yourself, warts and all, willing to learn and grow.
No one walks in knowing everything, and being willing to acknowledge that and asks questions till you do know lots is very valued.
Hope this helped!

Group 4 (sunflower)

It seems like the job role or employer asks for a lot.
Helpful people
Money’s coming in. That’s so strange to see from this card. But people want to help, or there are people who will want to take you on. I’m getting under their wing as well. You might be in a vulnerable place right now, and that can feel lonely, but there are people or opportunities coming for you. (after a time of clouds hanging over you)
To be honest, you seem like you could be a leader in your field, or someone who has gained experience that is very valuable. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is maybe a step up for you or has an opportunity for you. If you currently have a job then people might go to you a lot for advice, tips, or help. Helpful people might hint to a job role such as customer service, or dealing with the public in general.
You really do have something valuable to bring to the table, and this particular role should be grateful if they get you, because i see that you would be able to help them out a lot.
The angels have something to do with this. It looks like one of them is tapping the lady on the head lol. Like ‘hey, look at this’. I see that you bring a lot of clarity to a place. You could be good with communication (which is sadly not that common actually. Talking up a big game is different from communicating effectively in the workplace.)
The fool is a good sign as well. This talks about having faith and trusting. There’s a little angel and demon on his shoulders here, so you might have a choice to make, or you’re tempted to do something you feel you shouldn’t. It might be simply the temptation to stay somewhere for a certain perk vs going because you feel guided to.
The fool as always, gives the advice of look before you leap. Sure, trust is involved, but you don’t need to do it blindly. Ask people around you for advice or help with looking at the role and responsibilities fully. If you go for this, make sure to look at the contract fully, and ask questions that are specific and important to you.
Overall this is looking good for prospects.
Your skill:
Oh. My. God.
It’s like I'm psychic or something. I’m turning the cards as I go.
Communication
I am a masterful communicator with the ability to say what I think and feel in a way that doesn’t invoke conflict. Watch as I dodge the bullets of sass and snark! Marvel as I avoid the traps of passive-aggressiveness and victimhood! Be amazed that even though it’s sometimes stressful, I choose to communicate- an act that saves us all from the grips of certain unspoken seething!
Let me just bow down to you for a minute. THANK **** THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE YOU. THANK YOU.
Moving on. What does the role ask of you?
Decisiveness
I go with my gut, when faced with decisions, I make my choices quickly and confidently. I trust my experience and skill and I will boldly and proudly go anywhere they lead me! So maybe you could focus a bit on how you’ve made important decisions independently AND leading a group. Maybe how one went well, and if something didn’t, how you mitigated that. There’s lots of leadership/managerial energy. A good mix of independent and group working together.
Good luck in your job hunt! You seem very capable and I hope your workplace appreciates you and your skills!

I am loathe to wade into the shipping discourse because it’s not how Severance should be viewed - at least in its entirety - but also the writers, directors, and cast members definitely seem keen on the audience being forced into Mark’s dilemma: Helly or Gemma.
This conflict is woven into the show’s theme and is featured prominently in the intro, even. So it’s hard not to get involved and have thoughts. It’s a deeply uncomfortable topic to consider, which I totally get and, speaking personally, I despise love triangles in stories.
Severance gets a slight pass because they’re actually doing justice to the concept and making it interesting and complicated but I will admit that I’m still not a fan of Mark x Helly. I think they were better off as just friends, with the romance firmly staying between Mark and Gemma.
If you’re not interested in hearing any thoughts about this then feel free to keep scrolling. Otherwise, read on:
Mark x Helly only makes sense to me if it adds weight to the final choice of him staying with Gemma in the end. From my point of view, Helly’s most interesting relationship is with herself - namely, her outie Helena. In this season, that seems to have been sidelined in favor of her romance with Mark which is . . . a choice.
It’s possible that leads to the popular theory that Helly becomes pregnant by Mark, one that I’m personally not fond of, since it makes the relationships even more complicated (and I think the show has enough complicated interpersonal dynamics as it is) but I am giving grace to the Severance writers to handle such a plot line with their usual creativity and keen guidance.
Anyway, I don’t think anyone watching the show with working eyes can deny that Helly is deeply important to Mark and even Gemma, to an extent. If Gemma is the impetus for the show even existing, then Helly is the catalyst that spurs the show’s characters forward with her firebrand personality. She’s exactly what Mark needs right now, and the same could be said about Mark for her. He grounds Helly and gives her a safe space, whereas she gives him purpose and the will to move forward. Mark needs that.
Helly’s presence is what spurs Mark to start the search for Ms. Casey (even if that’s been somewhat derailed this season).
There’s a valid argument to be had that Mark x Gemma, having changed and lost so much because and for each other, would be doomed to a lifetime of misery for choosing to stay with each other. There’s so much tragedy between them, even before Lumon cruelly split them apart.
Helly could be a new start for Mark, free from that pain. Her and Mark’s relationship feels youthful in a stark contrast to Mark and Gemma’s lived-in marriage. That is purposeful; the creators of the show have said that one of the themes for this second season is adolescence. And we know that they go well together, having seen them in action on the severed floor.
But . . . it doesn’t feel true to the themes of Severance if they do go down that route, at least to me. Mark’s central character flaw is his conflict avoidance: his unwillingness to face the hard and painful experiences head-on in an honest and open manner.
Helly is important to him. He loves her. She is what he needs right now.
But it has to be Gemma. Not because he’s married to her or out of loyalty to what they had before. Because that Mark and Gemma are gone. Dead. Neither of them are going back to how things were between them.
It has to be Gemma because that’s the only way either of them are going to truly get out of Hell. Going with Helly would mean not having to face all that hardship and pain and suffering that healing would require. It would mean that Mark and Gemma suffered for nothing.
They have to face it; all the damage done from Lumon, from their own selves, and from each other. Face it together and learn to love and be happy and live together despite it all. And they have to undertake that journey together.
Severance never takes the easy route. It’s making the statement that you cannot sever away the trauma and pain of life without losing your humanity in the process.
Mark x Helly vs Mark x Gemma. It gives more weight to know that, despite having the chance for him to walk away, he still chooses Gemma. That he wants to be with her after everything: the good, the bad, the ugly. To stand by her side and go through it all with love and honesty and faith that they’ll make it through this.
It’s Gemma. Always has and always will be.
(I know there’s the question about what Gemma would want, especially after finding out that innie Mark loves Helly - and if they do go down the pregnancy route, hoo boy. But I think we forget that Gemma is intelligent - innie Mark was born out of a need to forget her. And she knows and understands from painful experience how innies work. If anything, Gemma might be more mad about the fact he chose to get severed rather than him falling in love with another woman, considering memories of him were all that was keeping her going while locked away in Lumon’s dungeon whereas Mark thought creating a version that never knew her was needed to keep functioning. But, all the same, I don’t think watching her fight tooth and nail for almost an hour leaves any doubt in my mind that she would still want to be with him. It wouldn’t be easy to reconcile with but, hey, life and love are messy. It’s the story of everyone. Trying to avoid it deprives you of the full richness of our brief lives and robs it of meaning is what Severance is saying. But if she and Mark survive getting free and clear of Lumon and are open and honest with each other, then they’ll be okay, I think. And, of course, the love is still there, in spite of it all. That’s enough to convince me. It won’t be the same, but it can be good again. I know it can be. After all, winter never lasts forever. Spring always comes again.)
These are my own thoughts, I cannot stress that enough. It’s what makes sense to me. Even though I don’t care for Mark x Helly, I do adore Helly’s character and wish her the best ending possible. But with Helena as her outie, I just don’t see that being a possibility. And, no, I don’t believe that Severance is going to attempt a redemption arc for Helena. Not that the writers couldn’t write a damn good one for her - they certainly could - it’s just that particular narrative would require a huge amount of character work that should take multiple years and seasons to develop properly. You can’t just flip a switch and she’s suddenly Helly, even if she does reintegrate. I just don’t think it’s a story that should be rushed, like how it was with the resolution to Helena co-opting Helly’s bodily autonomy to be intimate with Mark. Fringe did that storyline way better and the reason why is because they had the time and space to do so. Severance does not - not in this current era of streaming shows where everything is condensed to 10 episodes max. Doesn’t matter how good the writers are.

EDIT: While I still feel as if this was a very messy situation, as Taxxon's public behaviour continues to spiral for the worse, as her rhetoric becomes more and more contentious and potentially dangerous to the young and vulnerable people in her audience I want to make one thing clear: This is not and never was a retraction. If you're a young person, I suggest you not make contact with her for your own safety. She does not respect the proper sexual-social boundaries an adult woman should have with a child or teenager. She, in fact, idealizes sexual bonds between adult and children including bonds where she herself is the adult in the situation, contrary to what many claim, and not just as a fantasy. Do not approach, do not engage, especially if you're 18 years or younger. It's not worth it. A small but important announcement/update
Hi guys. As you may have known about three months ago I got into a public argument with Youtuber and music creator Patricia Taxxon. It was messy and angry and there was a lot of interpersonal conflict and issues involved. I made two videos relating to this because I believed that Taxxon posed an active threat to vulnerable people.
My feelings, right now, are a lot more complicated. I have in hindsight, developed some nuance regarding the situation. I am not renouncing Jules Hyde, or his feelings regarding their interpersonal conflict. But, I think that is largely none of my business and did not warrant making a video that amounted to a a massive callout.
I do not think it was the right thing to do. This goes beyond what happened between myself and Orchard, someone who I approached as a critic that was examining her creative works and has proven over and over again to be callous, using thought-stopping techniques and regressive tactics to control her fans, beyond just having skeletons in her closet. Those skeletons are not what drew me to Orchard nor why I criticized her to begin with.
Taking this argument off of Tumblr and onto Youtube was my biggest mistake in all of this. However, this goes beyond that.
I tend to afford people a lot of grace, at least when they're my friends. I have afforded absolutely none of that grace to Taxxon.
I would also like to acknowledge, of the troubling actions she has taken, all of these happened when she was very young. A person I would still consider a kid. That doesn't mean those actions were okay, but it does mean she should be given a chance to heal and grow and hope that she will never do something like that again. To my knowledge there is no proof of any tangible wrongdoings since she was young, or at least, none of the contentious nature in which I discussed on my video.
I do not agree with many of Taxxon's opinions. I continue to maintain that you should have strict boundaries with anyone you meet on the internet, including your favourite Youtubers and Artists. I think some of the things she has said in the past and the present disturb and make me uncomfortable. I have been asking myself "does this warrant a Youtube stream calling her out and the fuss I kicked up?"
The answer I keep coming back to is "no." Being uncomfortable is not the same as being hurt. I don't have to like what she said. I can even argue against that rhetoric and idea. That is the nature of the internet. But what I did and what I attempted are far too close to "predator hunting" for me to continue to let it stand.
I have spoken to several people that were involved in my side of things and have alluded to these things to them in private. But for pretty much everyone this is the first time I am revealing this: I reached out to Taxxon for a private conversation, over Bluesky. (She has me blocked on tumblr, so this could be considered block evading.) She did not ask me to do this nor alluded that she wanted to do this. No one told me to do this. She is aware that I am making this post and I have discussed with her what actions will be taken in the future. I will not show you these messages, not in private, nor in public. If Taxxon chooses to do this, that is her choice and I respect it. I will trust that she won't take me out of context and will present my communication honestly. She has no reason not to. Please keep in mind this situation is still in development.
A few questions I anticipate people asking:
What now? Well, I have unlisted the original stream. The document I used for notes and screenshots will have two changes: I will be altering the text colours and background to be more readable, but will change none of the contents, besides this second change: A note at the top detailing my current stance, along with a link to this post. I will likely be unlisting or potentially privating the second stream I did, or cutting the section covering Taxxon out entirely. My decisions regarding the second video are mixed. The actions I take following all of this have not been strictly ironed out and are currently in development.
So are you and Jules not talking now? No. I also spoke to Jules about much of this. I don't really agree with or like how Taxxon treated Jules but again, this stemmed as a conflict between friends. I also think it is well within Jules right to want to distance himself and his film from Taxxon. I also understand where she's coming from. Largely I think the festival fee issue comes from a misunderstanding and breakdown of communication, and from Taxxon and Jules viewing the project and festival in very different ways from one another.
So do you think Taxxon is innocent? It really doesn't matter what I think. The testimony I heard was from an event that happened back when Taxxon was a kid. To my knowledge, there are no other proven real "victims" of Taxxon. I think she should learn better boundaries and start age gating some of her hornier videos but I don't think that constitutes as ontologically evil in the way I was presenting her.
What about [x person who has been criticizing Taxxon that you have shown to have a friendly relationship with]? I think we all need to chill out a little about the pred hunting shit. I think some of the opinions that have filtered into much of the critcism border on transphobic and are things I would never agree with. I don't think it's constructive and its just getting everyone worked up, to the point we see things that aren't there and recognize patterns that don't really weave together into anything. I can't tell anyone what to do. I can teach, to a general audience, what good boundaries and internet etiquette looks like. I can demonstrate the importance of admitting when you were wrong or made a mistake. I cannot force anyone to do anything. I understand for some of my cohorts and audience that this may be a dealbreaker. I'm sorry I disappointed you. But I am more sorry for allowing my paranoia that made me frame Taxxon not as a person but as a Monster.
I will not be posting about Taxxon and her activities or opinions going forward. I ask that anyone in my Discord and other communities to do the same and not to ask me about her either. What happened here may be part of a larger conversation I will have going forward but for the forseeable future, I will be keeping Taxxon's name out of my mouth.
And finally, to address the trans stuff:
The capacity for someone to perpetuate harm, and the capacity for them to benefit from that harm are not necessarily congruent with one another.
Myself and Patricia are both trans. There are stereotypes about trans men and trans women created by cis people that hurt both of us. The only people that truly benefit from that are cis people. I fell for those stereotypes and perpetuated them in a way that caused Taxxon harm. Trans women are not inherently dangerous just because they have unconventional interests and to not give them the same grace as every other group is transphobic. Taxxon also perpetuated stereotypes about me created by cis people that caused me harm. Trans men deserve empathy and understanding and shutting them out of conversations that affect their ability to live is transphobic. Us hurting each other even if, largely, it was at the hands of our respective audiences, is not constructive. It benefits neither of us. It hurts us and it hurts the community at large.
I hope that Taxxon finds the space to heal and grow. She deserves the grace to have messy relationships and explore things as she figures herself out and finds her place in the world as a young person, without the internet breathing down her neck and demanding her to be held accountable every time she scratches her ass the wrong way. (EDIT: I mean to say, people are criticizing her reactions to movie trailers with the same weight as her contentious behaviour.) I'm sorry for making a mess of things. I'm sorry that I asked Patricia to be the perfect minority. I do not demand nor do I expect forgiveness but it is important to me that my audience understands my position going forward.
I will not be covering this kind of thing in the future. In the past 48 hours two people unconnected to my YT channel recognized me in unrelated spaces. I have to contend with the fact that as I grow as a creator, my words carry more weight. They can damage people in a way that an unknown can't. I don't get the benefit of shouting into the void as I once did. I will go forward interacting with other creators first and foremost as a coworker and a critic, not as a watchdog. Never again. No good can come of it.
Thank you for reading, and feel free to ask me questions in the replies of this post.
EDIT: I've gotten a lot of mixed responses to this post. Please understand that this is not my complete thoughts and I'm still working to present you with something that will hopefully, for all parties, be a more satisfactory end to this. This was an initial break of tension and an announcement that I am currently at this time formulating my thoughts into something cohesive and presentable. Not on the exact time table that I initially planned to start talking about this, but as I said, there is more to come. Thank you for your patience.

Fuck It Friday Suck It Sunday?
was tagged by the amazing @rcmclachlan but I saw it a little late & have forgotten what the sunday version of this is. so. here's some antarct-fic!
“Evan? Come over here, please.”
Buck arranges his last slice of prefab cookie dough on the baking sheet, then leaves Brooke with the rest. Sure, when Lucy told him he'd be baking, he'd hoped for a little more creative freedom, but he does suppose this is more efficient.
He quickly washes his hands, then heads to the front of the galley kitchen, to where Katie is leafing through her clipboard. She gives him what he's quickly learning passes for a smile – a slight lifting of the corners of her mouth, a squeezing together of her eyes. Now that he knows what it means, it reminds him of a cat's slow blink. Except a lot less warm and cuddly.
He likes her, he does. She's just a little terrifying, is all.
“I'm going to need you to do a lunch run to helo ops,” Katie tells him. She unclips a sheet of paper and hands it to him. “This is a list of the special requests. For the other three, just get a bit of everything. Make sure to get plenty of carbs and to hit the major food groups.”
Buck takes the list, looks it over. Okay, this'll be simple enough. He can grab most of the things from the buffet and ask the galley crew up front for the rest. “Copy that. Who do I give it to?”
“Helo ops. The heliport. It's down the hill, just past Crary lab.”
“Wait, I-I need to go there?”
Katie gives him a sharp look. “That's the idea of a lunch run, kid.”
Buck is pretty sure he's sweating. “I—I can't do that.”
She turns fully towards him now, frowning. “And why is that?”
“I-- My--” He fumbles for some kind of excuse that isn't the truth, won't reveal his actual motivations for being here, but he's got nothing. Even better, the rest of the galley crew has caught wind of their conversation, and they're not even trying to hide it. Entertainment can be hard to come by in these parts, and any interpersonal drama definitely qualifies as entertainment.
He guesses he owes them that much.
“I—uh. My ex works there.”
Katie's eyebrows raise. Says, slowly, "That's a hell of a coincidence.”
“It's not.” He swallows. Meets her eyes. “I-I'm here because of him. Because he's here. He sort of. Ran away?”
There's definitely some whispering going on behind him now.
Katie looks unimpressed, and once again she reminds him a little too much of Athena. “So you ran after him?”
“Y-yeah.” He grimaces.
“But you don't want to see him?”
“Well, I mean, that's not--”
“Hm. You don't want him to see you.” It's not a question. “Why not?”
“I do want him to-- to see me. Just. Not yet. Not until I-- I know what to say to him, you know?”
Katie hums, looks down at her clipboard. “Only new helo pilot this season is Kinard. That him?”
He swallows. “Yeah. Yes. That's-- That's him.”
“Well, he's on a supply run to the dry valleys. Won't be back for another--" she glances up at the clock, "--forty-five minutes.” She jabs a pen at the paper Buck is still clutching tightly. “And that's his lunch order. Better make sure it's waiting for him.”
Relief floods through his veins and he huffs a breath. “Yeah. Yeah, I can do that.”
He heads out towards the galley, but turns before he exits the kitchen. “Hey, Katie? Thanks.”
The corners of her eyes crinkle in a smile.

11 for the podcast thing
11. what’s a podcast you’ve listened to more than once?
Sorry it took so long to respond! I've relistened to a TON of podcasts, because I get very into figuring out how shows tick. Here's a small sampling:
Limetown, Season 1: This is such a watershed show, and I listen to it probably on average once a year. Structurally and craft-wise, the team over at Two-Up caught lightning in a bottle with this show, and its influence on Shelterwood is massive - how the show handles investigation, interview, character interactions, and sound design are worth studying for anyone interested in the mockumentary form. The monologues on this show are brilliant.
Knifepoint Horror: Soren Narnia has been steadily cranking out some of the most chilling, understated horror in podcasting for a decade and a half. His philosophy on horror is simple and grounded: the heart of fear is loss. These stories, varied as they are, share a sense of melancholy which grounds the work (strange as it can be) in reality. I feel the same way about I Am In Eskew, but I'm still on my first listen-through. Check out the episode DNK for a really cool meta-take on documentary style horror, as the story takes the form of a directors commentary overtop a documentary.
In Strange Woods: Atypical Artists (with creative director @thelaurenshippen, go drop her a follow) pushed the boundaries of what a fiction podcast could be with this one, and it makes me cry so much all the time. I have a soft spot for media about the legitimate grievances of teenagers, and this one also features Broadway-caliber musical performances from an all-killer cast. This one plays with the documentary style by fusing it with musical theater, which is genius: both forms utilize a mix of narration and scenes to balance plot, emotional release, and personal/interpersonal motivations, and both forms have established formal tropes (the "I want" song, for example) that can be expanded/subverted by using the frame of the other. Check this one out if you like Come From Away.
That's that! I hope you check out these shows if you haven't already, they're just incredible. And feel free to send me more from the ask game here!

ShortBox Comics Member Interview: Jona Li
Throughout the month of October, the Cartoonist Cooperative will be sharing interviews with members of the Co-op who have a new comic available at the ShortBox Comics Fair 2024!
NOTE: The Cartoonist Cooperative is not affiliated, associated, authorized, endorsed by, or in any way formally connected with ShortBox.
Today’s spotlight is Jona Li and their new comic for ShortBox, Rewired
We’d love it if you could introduce yourself and tell us about your background in comics.
Jona Li: Hello! I’m Jona and I’m a comics artist based in Tkaronto. I’m an animation school grad so I was originally working in the animation industry before I decided to do comics full-time, which was possible largely thanks to an arts grant I got from the Canadian government. I’ve always drawn short comic strips and one-pagers in my free time, and comics have always been my go-to medium for storytelling. My first real foray into comics was exhibited at ShortBox Comics Fair 2022, and since then I’ve done a couple of other short comics for anthologies and zines organized by friends. Even though my professional background is largely in animation, the comics medium is still something that has stayed a passion of mine, both with consuming and making them. I’m excited to continue to possibly make comics full-time.
Tell us more about your new comic?
JL: My new comic Rewired is a speculative short using surface-level sci-fi elements to tell an interpersonal story about someone who’s willing to change anything about themselves for someone they love. I guess it’s an inherent tragedy where you know it won’t go great either way–you can’t really change who you are without consequences and you can’t fully understand another person enough to fully cater yourself to them. The MC thinks interpersonal relationships and romance can be solved like a math equation, but the worst and best thing about people and relationships is that it’s unpredictable and indefinite. In many ways, it’s also an allegory for neurodivergence–wouldn’t it be great to simply program yourself to behave a certain way so others will like you more? That’s kind of what I was trying to do with this comic.
Tell us about your creative process; how did you develop this comic and what are the steps you took to bring it to the final stage?
JL: I had a lot of trouble at first coming up with a short and concise idea for something that’s ideally just twenty-ish pages long. At first I tried out a more lighthearted, comedic short about two friends reconnecting and having a blossoming romance while trying to give a burial to a dead cat they found. I guess I never grasped the characters enough for that one, so I looked around for other inspiration.
I really like the concept of mundanity mixed in with the fantastical, something like Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, where an android girl runs a café in a post-apocalyptic setting. That was kind of the blueprint for the comic I have now. From there, I wrote out the general beats for how I want the story to go, and then I wrote the script and did my thumbnails.
This was actually the first time I ever had a proper thumbnail stage while doing a comic, the last few comics I did were purely just me making it up as I go…in the end I still changed a lot from my thumbs to the final sketch. Then I decided on the general look of the comic, which is what you see now!
Read the rest of the interview HERE! And dont forget to check out the Shortbox Comics Fair to support these lovely creators!!

I am someone with a desire to socialize/build relationships/network who has always had to deal with unprovoked envy, hidden animosity, general unprovoked mistreatment which has therefore made me withdraw and suppress a lot of my skills. I’ve experienced these things in social interactions and even interpersonal and familial relationships. while I can be self-assured, assertive and confident, I have a history of people-pleasing and I notice that this makes me more susceptible to the things I mentioned above. I have reflected on this and determined that most people have been intimidated by me/my talents but that the manner in which I go out of my way to appease people or just be graceful, kind, and soft-hearted in general or makes them feel comfortable enough to project that intimidation by disrespecting and attempting to belittle me.
I have dealt with people’s responses to me by embodying my masculine energy in order to self-protect (lots of anger). Do you have any advice or ideas for a consistent routine to help me truly begin assert boundaries, prioritize myself and not allow others to take me out of my true element (powerful, creative, self-confident) while also still dealing with said people? I have tried in the past but particularly in interpersonal relationship I fail, due to the way I carry extreme guilt for prioritizing myself and due to fear of abandonment.
I love this question, i've been dying to talk about this so thank you!!!
In my humble opinion, it seems like you are at a point where you have done work on yourself, are trying to improve and have learned how to become more aware of your surroundings. This is actually really great! My take away when I read it is that you are stuck in somewhat of what I like to call a limbo position.
And this is something that I didn't understand myself when I went through a lot of the same pain points you brought up.
Some of the main reasons you may be in this cycle is because, for one, you may be continuing in the same environment or meeting the same people in new bodies. Or you are handling the situations with new people the same way you did before. I think thats the point you were trying to make.
I just want to first say that you are not an intimidating woman. Get that out of your head because it sets a negative thought pattern and will subconsciously keep you in a loop where you are repeating cycles. You are only intimidating to the wrong people. You may be settling for less or selling yourself short in regards to your expectations with yourself or your self worth. I say this with love, obviously. It's probably not even something that you realize cause you really do seem to have amazing attributes. If you didn't, you wouldn't feel the way you do now.
However, I really suggest you stop trying to water yourself down to make others feel comfortable. Because that is really what its coming down to. You cant make a shoe thats a size smaller than you fit. Time to change your shoes because its obvious you have outgrown these environments and have not realized that you are capable of so much more. You are letting the guilt from this make you limit yourself and thats totally not fair for you.
Which leads me to your next paragraph.
The issue here seems to be the lack of emotional control. It is not what you say, but how you say it. And that occurs because we are not fully healed from whatever wounds, or not confident in ourselves. Either or, or both. You should be able to and can get to a place with yourself where you can assert yourself with a calm, straight forward tone and get the message across.
If fear of abandonment is your thing, you may be tying yourself worth to others. Maybe as a child, you experienced neglect, inconsistent care, or emotional disconnection that planted the seeds of your fear of abandonment. So you should maybe start by challenging the negative beliefs that stem from these experiences, such as “I’m not enough” or “People always leave me,” and replace them with affirmations like “I am worthy of love and connection.” Focus on self validation by meeting your own emotional needs, learning to comfort yourself during moments of insecurity. Express your needs and trust that doing so strengthens relationships rather than pushes people away. Change your perspective in the same way i referenced about you being intimidating, to abandonment as a natural part of life’s flow, so you recognize that it doesn’t reflect your worth. Work on your emotional independence by pursuing personal goals, doing activities you love and self love habits. This will help you build more confidence and resilience with interpersonal relationships so that when someone tries you, hurts you etc, you feel confident enough to be like, "yeah, you don't need to be in my life." vs being overwhelmed by emotion out of the fear of losing someone who is not treating you how you should be treated.
Hope this helped.

seriously though from my experience dealing with other rich middle aged men I can tell you this right here, what we are witnessing right now, is the root of much evil in the world.
guys like Matt own and run everything that's privatized and larger than a certain level of scale. these guys get put in a steel tunnel from childhood onward into this weird little knotted ball of insecurity and entitlement, with no time spent during their youth in developing any interpersonal skills at all that aren't "talking slightly too loudly at a corporate party". I've worked as a domme, and a ton of these guys start hiring dominatrices when they get to Matt's age because they're unable to maintain anyone's attention without paying for it anyway and are so crippled with insecurity they can't be honest with women in their lives if they have any. this doesn't help them much because inauthentic human connection makes things worse. exposing even mild, normalized fetishes make them shut down and lash out, but it's not just a sex thing, it's their whole lives. I've watched so many of them hit their 40s, have a bunch of money and a little power, and realize all the poor degenerates they've spent their lives treating like a spectacle or a fantasy are the ones actually having fun, and who other people actually enjoy spending time around. this is pure speculation on my part, idk anything about his personal life and am not trying to find out. the posts are enough to diagnose a dozen extremely pressing problems he will have to painstakingly deconstruct in $10,000 Ayahuasca retreats to get anywhere.
and I wouldn't be so critical about their personal failings as a class of people if they didn't make those failings everyone else's problem. they are fully aware they are fucking up but have always been able to get immediate gratification by standing still and screaming until someone brings them exactly what they need. they know they could use their money to put people in houses or feed them, they deal with this by just not thinking about it. no one has ever genuinely liked them and they're aware of this, often including their own parents. they are frustrated with women. they have zero creative outlets and no skills. even if they have relationships they don't fall in love or experience limerance. all they do is make money or handle money, they are incapable of performing real labor and are alienated from the concept of labor itself so they invent weird orthorexias and compulsive exercise schedules to feel like they're performing labor. a lot of them develop substance problems because it alleviates some of the crippling inhibition and self doubt, but that causes more problems. some of them are narcissists or sociopaths which helps them cope with the extreme isolation but a lot of them arent, and just constantly afflicted with the same problems people get in solitary confinement or being the pariah at a high school. any of them could opt out of all this crap at any time and simply choose not to. these guys are ruining everything.

Continuing KO's cinema preferences talks: Would he enjoy The Saw (the franchise)? What about the silence of the lambs?
I got the impression Knock Out might enjoy horror films cuz he likes the gory effects and it’s fun to watch humans scramble around and die, so I think he’d like the Saw franchise! I think I’ve only seen the first… 5 or 7? movies in the series, though, and it was as a teenager, so I’m not sure how crazy the latter parts get LMAO 😂
I imagine the first movie might be kind of boring to KO, since I can’t imagine he’d be too invested in the squishies’ interpersonal drama, but after that he might find the creative torture devices fascinating and ponder how to apply them to Cybertronian anatomy—that one device that latched onto the guy’s back and pumped acid into his torso comes to mind.
Silence of the Lambs is one of my favourite films of all time, so I wish I could say that Knock Out would like it, BUT I THINK HE’D FIND IT KIND OF BORING 💀 The thriller, suspense, and psych-horror genres work cuz they present uncomfortable / stressful situations on the captive audience, but I’m not sure if KO would be able to immerse enough for that to be effective 🤔 You have to care about Clarice, be unnerved by Hannibal, be invested in the mystery (and whether Buffalo Bill gets caught or escapes)… And if KO primarily likes movies for a fun gory time, he’s not going to get that from SotL!
He might think the cannibalism and Bill’s desire to construct a human flesh suit are interesting (and potentially remind him of other ’Cons he’s met before), and the character dynamics are surprisingly rich, but he might walk out thinking it was just okay. Perhaps mildly disappointed there wasn’t that much cannibalism, when that’s supposed to be Hannibal’s thing. I think he might also be surprised that the cannibalism was like—cooking people into food, rather than biting into his victims insecticon / terrorcon / zombie-style.
I feel like his taste in movies would reflect his own personal proclivities to an extent—he’s visually-oriented, likes to win, likes to be entertained, has high-octane hobbies like street racing and vivisection. He’s very smart, but not cerebral or ruminating. He’s one of the bad guys, so of course he’s not gonna root for the good ones—he wants the nice, underdog protagonists to lose!
So I think he’d have more fun with fast-paced, action-packed flicks (especially if there are monsters) and probably laugh along to trashy splatter / slasher films. I think if a movie is too stupid it’ll have to be gory enough to balance that out, though.
… I think he would relish Prometheus (2012), up until the point David gets his shit rocked, and then he’d be miffed because he found some investment in the evil treacherous robot plotting against the idiot humans aboard his ship. (HE EVEN PUNISHED THEM FOR INTERFACING! DAVID MVP)
